Reviews (page 11 of 13)
Started out strong with Sympathy for the Devil, but other than that I only like maybe two other tracks. The rest were a bit slow for me. Honestly lowkey a bit disappointing.
Sounds like songs for sitting around a campfire.
I liked this album more than I expected I would--some of the Stones' music either bores or annoys me. I like the swampy-bluesy feel of a lot of the tracks, and there's some great musicianship going on here. It feels more accessible to me than quite a bit of their other work. Almost garage-band or bar-band (in the most positive way) but also with some very skilled performances.
I am a Beatles > Rolling Stones person. I don't mind the Stones but they are not a favorite. I liked this record but it leads with the hit and wastes the rest of the time.
This album is a wonderful kind of bait and switch, starting off with something quite philosophical but then veering into blues songs about traveling and heartbreak. The slide guitar swirls around the vocals like a dance, enough to distract anyone from his jigsaw puzzle. And don’t worry about being so far from home—it ain’t no crime. Just make sure you don’t let your mama know what you’ve learned how to do. For all the swagger of these songs, however, there’s an underlying theme of a desire to return home, a longing for peace and quiet.
Not my favourite Rolling Stones album but all pretty listenable.
It’s like 4.5 really good songs and then the rest of just so forgettable… Like how were Street Fighting Man and No Expectations the singles for this when they’re so bland compared to the better cuts? 5/10
Starts off strong with the opening song, then takes a serious plunge, as if any and all creativity was flushed down the toilet on the cover. Occasionally there are flashes of quality throughout such as on Jigsaw Puzzle which is a worthy ode to Bob Dylan, or Street Fighting Man, a worthy ode to MC5, then there are also some very very unworthy odes to various country and blues artists. A messy and inconsistent album of odes is all it is. 3 toilets out of 5 🚽🚽🚽
i can appreciate the impact/iconic-ness but it doesn’t really stand out to me. guitar goes crazy and it’s an interesting album but not one i’d keep going back to listen to
I can't quite get into the Stones as an album band, though they wrote some of the most sublime songs in rock history.
I liked factory girl. The rest of it is very stones blues and honestly just sounds the same to me 🤷♀️
Ho hum...
Decent but not their best.
Not too many exciting things on here other than Sympathy for the Devil and maybe snippets of some of the remaining tracks.
There is just a huge gap between sympathy for the devil and basically every other song on this album
Sympathy for the Devil is amazing, but the rest is kinda meh.
It has two classics in Sympathy and Street Fighting Man, but like a lot of Stones albums, the rest is mostly okay bluesy stuff that I can take or leave.
Predictably solid.
This is a lot of fun, but I've heard better from them! This runthough I noticed the really awesome *recording*. I don't often appreciate that part of the artistry. All the instruments are clear, distinct, warm, lively.
Interesting first listen of a Stones album front to back. Hard to think that back in the day the were competing with the Beatles, this seems very different from the Beatles. Much closer to Zep. Fun poppy but bluesy tunes. Mix typical of 60's-70's rock and pop.
Pretty consistent album, although it doesn't leave much of a lasting impression. A couple of famous tracks on here
I’ve heard this before I got it and thought it was ok. Gonna skip Sympathy and leave it to the end on the advice of a friend. Dear Doctor is funny. The whole thing plods along well, but in the end I just love Sympathy and the rest does relatively little for me.
Disclaimer, I can't stand the Rolling Stones, other than a small handful of exceptions, and this album contains a couple of them. I honestly don't know what it is about the Stones, specifically, that bugs me, but I didn't get much of that on this record - it wasn't a bad listen, which surprised me.
Symphony for the devil is absolutely a 10 out of 10 the rest of the album OK
3.5
The Rolling stones are USAs answer to the British band the Beatles and the Canadian band Queen. I'm no music expert, but this is good roll and rock.
Enjoyed it. Surprised with how bluesy is was in parts
Not heard the rolling stones other than compilation albums and thought this was alright, nothing mind blowing. Thought the final track stuck out like a sore thumb, really didn't fit with the rest and was a poor end to what had been a decent listen.
My first Stones album at 32 years of age. It was as expected quality wise because I really enjoyed it but the whole sound of the album was totally out of the blue. I funny what it is but I wasn’t expecting almost country elements. It’s was sound that. Salt of the Earth was great
Alleraardigst maar niet bijster spannend.
Damn brou
Pretty, pretty, pretty good
5/10
I try and I try to get into the Rolling Stones and I can't. This album has an undisputed musical quality and its impact on rock n roll cannot be questioned. It's also overflowing with masculine energy, yet it sometimes goes too far and the energy is a bit tiring after a while. Their usage of country and blues maybe was important for the popular music at the time, but right now - for someone picking up this album for the first time - it just gets boring and annoying (Dear Doctor is garbage). What I liked about it: Sympathy for the Devil is a really great tune and it stands out so much when compared to the rest of the album. Also, I like the slide guitars on some tracks which is apparently one of the last contribution of Brian Jones. Salt of the Earth is a nice closer too. Other than that, many easily forgettable songs, which is also one of my major problems with the band - incredible bangers scattered throught multiple albums among generic blues rock songs. 3/5 - due to its apparent significance and track 1
It’s rare that I’ve been blown away by what they’ve got. On this one, “Sympathy for the Devil” was good but overstayed its welcome. Out of their stuff that’s come across the generator so far, I liked Let it Bleed more
there’s a tramp sittin’ on my doorstep
I am what you might call a fairweather Stones fan at best...there are tracks I absolutely love but I have never owned a single album. Having said that, if I had to own one, this would probably be at the top of the list if only for Sympathy For the Devil...and then there is Street Fighting Man. Prodigal Son, Parachute Woman and Stray Cat Blues etc. are all solid listens but for me this clocks in around a 3 star review, I know, blasphemy, but doesn't that really fit with the Stones?
ok, there are better stones albums in my opinion
Kind of all over the place but not unenjoyable.
Two great songs and a bunch of mediocre songs.
The Rolling Stones from London, England. This was their 9th Studio Album. It is one of six albums on the 1001 Albums list. Standouts: Sympathy for the Devil, Street Fighting Man Others: No Expectations, Factory Girl, Salt of the Earth Sympathy for the Devil is one of the Top 100 classic rock songs of all time. Rating: 3.5
A good stones album that had one great song and a bunch of other decent ones. A pretty standard stones album in my opinion that had a variety of instrumentals. This album was a turning point in the stones discography where they played less bluesy music and became a great rock band. 7.4/10
Bluesy music, some very nice, insightful lyrics. Jagger can really alter the sound of his voice.
T3B 1. Sympathy For The Devil 2. Street Fighting Man 3. Jigsaw Puzzle
Sympathy for a devil- a classic. Appreciate the historical references here 👍 No expectations- Solid blues song with some good lyrics👍 Dear doctor- really bad patische of a country song Parachute woman- feel like I’ve heard this sort of song multiple times Jig-saw puzzle- Nice surrealist song👍 Street fighting man- quite catchy tbh👍 Prodigal song- Doesn’t amount to much here, seems like filler Stray cat blues- pedophilia song, those were the days🤮 Factory girl- The country vibes are not working for me Salt of the earth- This song just seems disjointed and I don’t want to have to hear Keith Richards voice Solid enough, I’m not sure the country inspired tracks work for me and some songs seem similar to songs already encountered. 3/5
Ditching 2000 light years from home psychedelia for rootsy blues and groovy rock n roll makes Beggars Banquet one of the classic Rolling Stones albums alongside Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed. Extra star for Sympathy and Street Fighting, but loses a star or two for too much acoustic light rock.
Some classics but also fillers I think. Prefer albums like Let it Bleed or Sticky Fingers or Black and Blue.
Sympathy for the Devil is such a banger of a song to start off with (and in my personal top 5 songs of all time). Unfortunately the rest of the album didn't really live up to that beginning but they are always a solid listen
If this could have kept up with Sympathy for the devil this would have been much more highly rated for me. Unfortunately, after a great starting song, it sort of faded into the background for me.
Good Stones album but I feel like there’s a reason there’s not as many mega hits on this album as there are on others.
3.5 And on the last album of my 24th year, the Lord said... let there be Stones. Our first Rolling Stones album of what I assume is going to be a handful, and I was surprised by how... country it is? Country blues was not a genre I realized the Stones ever leaned into, but I didn't mind it. That being said, the less-bluesy tracks (like Street Fighting Man and Stray Cat Blues... ironically) stood out to me more. Songs like No Expectations and Dear Doctor were fine, but kind of ran together, and Factory Girl was borderline a Led Zeppelin song (not necessarily a bad thing). All in all, found it to be an enjoyable record with strong classic vinyl vibes. Would probably listen again. Favorite songs: Sympathy for the Devil, Street Fighting Man, Stray Cat Blues
Sympathy for the devil 👌
Half good.
This would almost be a 4 but there was too much country influence. I do realize I just said I like old country, but not in Rolling Stone form.
I've only heard Sympathy For The Devil from this album before, but tbh there's nothing very remarkable about it. Ah sorry there's an extremely creepy song about wanting to fuck a 13 year old right. Saved songs: Sympathy For The Devil, Jigsaw Puzzle, Salt Of The Earth
Comfortable grooves, nothing too interesting
Every avid music listener must face this unavoidable fact some day: Rolling Stones will have a bunch of okay songs and one fantastic song. Aftermath has Under My Thumb, Let It Bleed has Gimmie Shelter, and Beggars Banquet has Sympathy for the Devil. That isn't to say that all Rolling Stones albums are created equal, but that there are distinct outliers on each that only make a few songs worth listening to. Let me tell you, that greatest hits album is stacked, but I would not say the same about the studio albums. Despite this, Beggars Banquet still establishes itself as being a damn fine Rolling Stones album. While the other songs live in the shadow of Sympathy for the Devil, they're good enough that I never felt a strong urge to turn it off. So, that's worth something.
I love Street Fighting Man and Sympathy for the Devil, but just didn't find anything else here really speaking to me.
mid
Jangly rock n roll. Always been more of a Beatles guy, myself. Favorite tracks: "Sympathy for the Devil", "Parachute Woman"
Very country type rock
Some good but most meh
The hypnotic percussion of ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ aside, rather middling.
Dear doctor is the best song
I remember reading a review years ago which said the Stones made a very successful career by regularly releasing mediocre albums which had 2 or 3 fantastic singles to carry them. I still feel like that's pretty accurate after giving this another go. I'm sure they had fun recording 6 mins of "Jigsaw Puzzle" but it pales in comparison to something like "Sympathy for the Devil". Remove "Sympathy" and "Street Fighting Man" and thos would be a forgettable 1/5 for me. You can't deny the genius and influence of those two songs though!
Decent but loses a point for Stray Cat Blues
1-2 iconic tracks but the rest were just ok.
wowwww2
Some good songs, but not for me.
Solid
Favourite track(s): Sympathy for the Devil, No Expectations I understand how that would come to be the sound of a generation for some. Many of the tracks are a little too busy for me but No Expectations kind of hits a soft spot. And some tracks do remind me of Cowboy Bebop.
Good vibes. Listened to the album a couple times over the weekend.
More like sympathy for the mid
This was a solid album, but its the rolling stones so I expected more. Not that its bad at all, its pretty good but when you're one of the best bands ever, I expect more. I am starting to realize how bluesy of a band the stones are. Mick jagger hip thrust 5/10
Not their best but the highs are still high
Gotta be in the right mood for this album. Wasn’t expecting the sound. I know The Rolling Stones but not well enough apparently
The Stones are a band that's meant to be seen live. Mick Jagger's voice is obnoxious on recording and I find their white man's blues extra irritating. Sympathy For The Devil and Street Fighting Man SLAP, but the whole rest of this album can go.
A couple of the best tunes ever, but also quite a lot of filler - still worth it
don't really remember this one
Some good tunes, but some forgettable as well. I forgot it was on by the time I got to the end of the album. Not a stinker though by any means.
Weinig commentaar. Het is een oké album
Scuzzy goodness.
Enjoyed this much more on the second listen. There were a few tunes that I really liked but I wasn't blown away by most of the album and I know the Stones have much better material. Favorite tunes were Sympathy, Street Fighting Man, and Salt of the Earth.
Peaks early and then trails off at the end
Sympathy For The Devil is pretty tired at this point, No Expectations wisely takes things into a lower gear. There is a lot of roots american and blues acoustic on this record. Prodigal Son is a great song.
I hadn’t heard this album before. This was the second Stones album I got in 3 days and I had the same feeling about both. Cool album but nothing really stood out. Still enjoyed but not as much as I thought I would. 3.5 stars.
Pas pire, c'est du RS
This is the Stones I'm used to, very mediocre in my opinion.
Some good songs, some shit formulaic ones. A bit like all their albums for me? Definitely one of the better ones but not something I ever go back to
Sympathy For the Devil is ultra-classic. Street Fighting Man is exceptional. The rest of the album is "new" to me. The Stones are an amazing band and they have been making music for 60 years. Think about that.... I'll need to hear more of this! 3.5/5
Decent, with one outstanding song (sympathy...) and a few other good ones. I struggle to see why they were such a big deal though - there is very little innovative or exciting here. Maybe they were already past that point of their career.
Not bad. Not really my cup of tea but more tuneful than other stuff by them
Felt derivative tbh.
Bit samey bluesy for me, apart from sympathy for a devil and Brown Sugar which are both bangers.
6/10 Best song - Sympathy for the devil
Ihan hyvä, mut kyl ne 70-luvun alun levyt on mulle selvästi parasta rollaria.
Lots of different sounds on here. I don't think I'm the biggest fan of classic rock n roll. But It's a solid one with prob one of the most classic rock songs of all time.
Pretty fun but I still wouldn't call myself a Stones fan. Songs about wanting to sleep with underage girls are also not a great look.
2 fabulous and wildly successful songs, and a bunch of meh songs. So glad to see this album, but not stellar in any way. C+
Some classics, but the stones have never been a favorite of mine
"sympathy for the devil," what an album opener. possibly one of the best album openers of all time. but the album takes such a quick turn into blues! it was shocking how blues heavy it was. the stones did a good job with that, especially the subject matter. "salt of the earth" in particular stuck out to me. blues isn't really my thing, but i can recognize that this was blues well done! i do admire a band that can jump around genres.
This album had some good moments, and then it had some "meh" moments. I didn't really dig the heavy blues songs. For me, the standout tracks were Sympathy for the Devil, Stray Cat Blues, Street Fighting Man, and Salt of the Earth. I make a point to specifically call these out because I feel like they were the most interesting tracks on the album due to having some musical aspect giving them an extra "kick" out of average bluesy purgatory. I would be remiss not to dedicate some discussion to the iconic Sympathy for the Devil -- one of the most well known and regarded songs in music history. It feels like a Bob Dylan song in that the lyrics aren't afraid to tell a long story, but I admittedly find the topic and the music surrounding it is so much more interesting than most Dylan tracks, from the hand drums down to the iconic "woo woo" vocalizations.
Some solid stones tunes on here and altough a good listen the stones never take me to the heights.
Classic but inconsistent
Sympathy for the devil if he has to listen to the filler
A good one, but didn’t hit me like it seems to do to everyone else.
'Sympathy for the Devil' is just one of those songs. One of the greats. Then there's this long stretch. And then 'Street Fighting Man'. And then some more songs. So then I made a playlist where I took out those two songs that I know too well and just listened to the songs around it. And that helped a lot! I really liked No Expectations and Salt of the Earth much more when it wasn't sort of obscured by the two greatest hits songs on this album. Still, I don't love this one as a whole. Great work here, but it still leaves me pretty cold.
Starts exceptionally strongly such that the rest simply of the album doesn't maintain. Nevertheless there is much to enjoy, the playing is more than solid, the vocals are variable.
Tem uma pegada meio folk, mas senti as músicas meio parecidas
The Stepping Stones album. Figuring out what they are good at and to concentrate on that. The album where Brian Jones fries. There are some deep cuts here that only Stones fans will love but really an interesting and patchy LP. I feel like it’s more of a snapshot of the Stones whilst the pull away from psychedelia and into the blues rock majesty of the next 3 LPs they make. Although not as forgettable as some Stones 80s LPs, probably really for the deep fan and stones collector.
Gefällt mir nicht so schlecht wie die meisten anderen Platten der Stones.
“Songs such as "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Street Fighting Man" became rock radio staples for decades to come.”
Standard fare from the Stones with blues and country infused, a couple of standouts
I liked this album. In the context of the British Invasion, I'd much rather listen to The Beatles or the Who or others, and as a result I just haven't spent as much time with the Stones' discography as some of those others. Sympathy for the Devil is awesome, as always (and - in these covid world music streaming days, I realized it's actually been a long time since I heard it). I had on pretty good headphones, and realized how much I love the piano work in that song. I was drawn to the following track, No Expectations, for the same reason. In my usual Wiki page browsing, I learned that Nicky Hopkins (frequent Stones collaborator/ pianist / organist) did the piano for both of those songs (and he's also one of few musicians to be featured on a Beatles track - Revolution). He also did piano on Nilsson Schmilsson, an album I first listened to this year as well (but independently from this project- no idea of that one is on this 1001 list or not).
I enjoyed the stripped down sound of the album. Not a big stones fan, so I found it to drag on a bit.
I really only recognized the first track. Overall, I liked the music. The singing style is enjoyable for a little while, but then gets old. My ears wanted to ignore it enough that I didn't pay much attention to lyrics. I was surprised that there was so much of a southern/blues sound given that they are British.
A good album, full of violent fun sound. Not the best Stones album, not by far. But I had fun listening to it.
Thats a low 3 Pretty good But not very It just kinda has to be on the list you know But also I never wanna listen to this again Ok and then the last two songs are masterpieces comeon high 3
6/10
6/10
More bluesy than expected
I liked it. Sympathy for the Devil is great
Solid
Makes me think of The Who Folk, blues and bluegrass vibes
Opens strong with Sympathy for the Devil. Very US Bluesy feel that I can dig, but I miss the more produced feeling from the Greatest Hits on 40 Licks. Parachute Woman feels particularly roadhousey. Jig-saw Puzzle has a kind of Beatles vibe to it that I like. Street Fighting Man works much better as the slow introduction song in 40 Licks than it does as the mid-point of this album. Salt of the Earth ends the album and it's good - hypey.
Ihan kelpo rallattelua
Tasaisen hyvä levy. Lähti aamu hyvin käyntiin, mut mieluummin kuuntelisin ”best of”-levyä
Heard it before. Didn’t listen to it again
if i was a beggar why would i listen to this? just give me money and mind your own fucking business!
We previously reviewed "Sticky Fingers." It was great. "Beggars Banquet" is not as great. Not even close. It starts out with one of the best openings ever. The drums and primal screams, followed by "Please allow me to introduce myself," sets a hopeful tone for "Beggars Banquet." This is gonna be so cool and have so much attitude! But that doesn't last. It doesn't even last the full six minutes of "Sympathy for the Devil," because that song is great for 4-5 minutes, but the fifth minute of "woo woos" is just a bit too much. Six minutes of "Jigsaw Puzzle" was too much too. And in between those two tracks were three boring songs that were hard to recover from. "Street Fighting Man" is great, and "Factory Girl" is ok, but there's just not a lot here that stands out in a good way. The Stones were incredibly prolific in the late 60s. Were there even any B-sides or tracks left on the cutting room floor? Because some of these should have been.
I’m renaming this album Sympathy For The Devil + Mediocrity. After the opening track, I found nothing remarkable. To put this is context, mediocre Rolling Stones songs are still an easy listening experience. I like the bluesy overtones in general. The rhythm guitar and the slide guitar do not sound synched up in No Expectations. And the high pitched singing voice in Dear Doctor is odd.
First time listening to the whole album. There are a couple of classics there.
Country + blues + rock... Would listen again.
Parachute Woman Street Fighting Man Prodigal Son Stray Cat Blues
Early Rolling Stones is a hoot of different styles and influences. Fun, easy, not too full of itself
Some classic songs. 3/5
udmærket, fortjener mere opmærksomhed, men står bag bedre
Not a fan of the twangy vocals/guitar, but I like the driving piano and the harmonies. I liked the piano. Much more folksy compared to normal Rolling Stones. Not really my style though- sounded too much like white people blues.
I'm giving this a 3 simply for Sympathy for the Devil, one of the few Stones tracks I like. The rest is a weird rock-country mix.
I enjoyed some of the songs but felt that much of the album was generic. It was still interesting to listen to it.
The bongos at the beginning of "Sympathy for the Devil" is pure genius. The same for "Street Fighting Man". Some hits and misses the rest of the album.
Definitely more blues-y than I thought it would be, which was a nice surprise. I love factory girl.
Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Sympathy for the devil
Blues rock
A lot of heavy hitters recently...Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, now our second album from the Stones. It opens with one of my all-time favorite RS tracks, so already an improvement over the humdrum of Exile on Main St. Still quite bluesy, but with a few interesting songs mixed in here and there that break the monotony. Yet again, I can't say that I'm wowed by the Stones. Maybe that will come with some other album. I still want to give them a chance. Favorite tracks: Sympathy for the Devil, Factory Girl, No Expectations, Stray Cat Blues. Album cover: I like this one. Nothing crazy, but a cool look and bathroom graffiti is always funny. Interesting that this cover wasn't allowed in certain markets? The plain cover shown as the "original" on wikipedia is terrible. 3.5/5
The only song I knew was the opening Sympathy With The Devil which is a great track. After that things got a bit unexpected. The album is a lot more bluesy and folky than I expected. It was also a lot less good than I expected, only knowing the greatest hits of the Rolling Stones so far. On the whole I was quite disappointed.
Yeah ok this wasn't too bad. Considering it's 1968 it could be way worse - at least this is based in rock n roll and not fucking folk rock or whatever nonsensical whimsy-filled bullshit the Beatles were putting out at the same time. But overall it's not a classic, it's mostly just kinda bluesy jams. The first song was the best by a mile (it's an advertising jingle these days lol), and the rest is hard to remember apart from the other song I'd heard on the radio a kazillion times. 3/5.
Enjoyed this one. Love the more raw sound of it but some songs certainly stood above others for me, namely street fighting man and salt of the earth
vähän mitäänsanomaton; odotin enemmän
I've never been a big Stones fan and I don't really get the hype. For me it's all about the character, but the music itself always feels a bit longwinded, boring or forgettable. However, BB does have a lot of great production, and Mick Jagger is great. On this one, the songs do kind of blend into each other. I do think this is in part because they're not overly distinguishable or memorable, but the key to the album is Jagger's storyteller vocals, which makes the rambly nature of the album kind of work. They're telling you a story, you're along for the ride. RocknRoll
Not the kind of energy I am looking for. I like the musical diversity and enjoyed listening to it overall.
Average
Very blues-ey, at times felt like I was at a southern US country music festival. Overall, a good album by one of the most iconic bands in music history. Best: Sympathy for the Devil, Stray Cat Blues and Salt of the Earth. Worst: No Expectations, Factory Girl
Pretty cool
Good, love Sympathy for the devil
First time listening: 5/10 songs liked It was pretty good, some of the blues-ey songs are more my speed, but sometimes the theatrics of mike jagger throw me off. That one song "stray cat blues" would NOT be released today, let me tell you lol One song saved
Seems like a Good album, not that into the Beatles.
Gute Jams, nicht mein Geschmack im großen und ganzen.
I actually almost fell asleep to The Rolling Stones when they played orange stage at Roskilde some years ago, hehe.. I think it says a lot about how I feel about them. I understand that RS are huge and they have a huge following, and this album from 1968 is very nice and easylistening indeed. If you like classic 60’s Rock/Blues or maybe artists like Mac Demarco and his newest album and you haven’t listened to The Rolling Stones, give it a listen.
Good album, not their best.
At less than 40 minutes, this album is mercifully short. Not that I'm saying it's otherwise a bad album. I bet some people love it.
Decent, real enjoyable. Never really listened to them before, despite how almassive they are. This seemed a bit of a country style album. 3 seems harsh but 4 seems too high....
Decent, but prefer the Beatles!
Some nice stuff
Se dice que este disco está muy chido pero yo siento que tiene un poco de relleno. Se la ví.
OK. Over-rated.
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would was decent.
do... do I just not like the stones that much????
Classic Stones. A couple of great tracks but overall ***
Couple of bangers but largely left me cold.
Fair. Not their best, but great start.
Grand. But to country/blues-y for me though.
Very good, amazing in parts but not their best.
Sympathy for the Devil is great, not that excited by the rest of the album.
couple of bangers and a few tracks i'd never picked up on before that i liked (factory girl) but i'm up and down with the stones. Not the classic they'd have yoiu belive but decent. 6.5/10
3/5
iyi albüm rock n roll blues tarzı biraz. albümün en sevdigim şarkısı sympathy for the devil. Vokali mütiş iyi ve çok sıradışı bir solosu var. Şarkının sevmediğim özelliği aynı tempoda çok ilerlemesi. şarkıya puanım: 7/10. rollingstones sewerim.
Powinny być 2, ale Sympathy for the Devil
Haven’t heard much acoustic Rolling Stones, or much beyond their big ones. Street fighting Man my fav. Keith Richards is the strongest hellion
Mick Jagger’s voice ruins The Rolling Stones. Fight me. The quality of the instrumentals and lyrics are the only reason I didn’t yank this album.
I haven't listened to much of the stones, but that was a lot more bluesy than I was expecting, it was good, just nothing super special past the opening couple songs
I just don't like the Stones. I can appreciate why "Sympathy for the Devil" is considered a classic track and I wouldn't complain if somebody was listening to "Street Fighting Man" near me, but they just don't do anything for me.
sympathy for the devil is a gem. lots of country sounding stuff, otherwise forgettable.
Not the best Rolling Stones album
I've always been more of a Beatles guy than a Stones guy, but this is pretty good as far as Stones records go.
<voice style="Waterboy">whoo whoo ... The Rolling Stones sound like a choo choo train </voice> Don't consider myself a Stones fan, but I like a lot of their catalog. This album is not their best. Would not put on repeat.
6.5
I’m just not a huge stones fan. They’re fine, just not my fave.
metade do album é country, sympathy é outro nivel
Little too bluesy but not substantial
Not my favourite stones album
Again I'm pleasantly surprised. I generally can't take much of the Stones as Jagger's voice gets annoying real fast. However, Sympathy For The Devil has always given me chills, and the rest of this album is very much like that first track. Obviously, nothing stands out like Sympathy does though.
Nice one, with a few classics! Factory Girl is a new discovery.
Good album. Not my favorite from the Stones, but still a good one.
Some good songs. Classic Stones
слишком много роллингов ну камон...
Listened to it a few weeks back, okay. It has Sympathy for the Devil which is a top 5 stones song for me, so I can't rate it less than 3/4
Strong individual tracks, but tends to blend together as an LP.
Perfectly enjoyalbe, but kinda borring at times (maybe im just not a big Rolling Stones guy, although I did like it). I think its a rare case where an album gets better the deeper it goes, and the last few songs were really strong. Probably closer to a 3.3 or 3.5.
Not for me, one track that stuck out was Street Fighting Man.
The Stones have some good songs spread over their very very very long career, but so much filler. 2 good songs and a lot of bland country blues.
#4 Sympathy for the Devil is really the only standout song on this album, everything else sounds pretty much exactly the same
Rolling Stones are one of those bands where I don't really "get it" in terms of why they're so popular. There's a few songs I've heard that I don't mind - but overall I'm just not sold. In terms of this album, you have the one big hit Sympathy for the Devil, which even that I don't rate too highly (the woo woo at the end drives me insane with how long it goes on). Rest of the album didn't really do much and just felt boring to me.
Boomerslop. Just listen to Muddy Waters or Howlin’ Wolf.
kinda my least fave stones era
Like Bowie there are always one or two great songs in there among the rest. This is why Greatest Hits albums exist.
Previously known. The hits are hits, the rest is OK
I’ve sort of always been of the opinion that the Rolling Stones make for a much better singles band than they do an album band, just as a feeling plucked out of the ether, and it’s nice to finally confirm that. Starting with an all-timer song that perfectly functions as an expression of every part of the band, and then nosediving into being boring as all hell for the rest of side A, and then using side B to, brick by brick, build my annoyance at Mick Jagger as a singer and songwriter all the way to it’s grand conclusion. I didn’t need the millionaire from the south of England to sing about wanting a politics-less violent revolution he’d never actually support, I didn’t need the swaggering sexpot to tell me about how he’d bang two 15 year olds, and I really didn’t need him to tell me how he represents the silent majority that don’t want to vote before crescendoing with a beautiful gospel choir to give me relief from his voice for a moment. Life was just simpler and easier when all I knew was Sympathy for the Devil.
For every fantastic Rolling Stones single, there are like 8 or 9 completely bland and forgettable tracks. Sympathy for the Devil is an amazing song, and there are one or two other standouts on here, but that doesn't make a complete album.
What the fuck
I fucking hate this band. There's nothing on this enjoyable. And this is one of the biggest band ever.... how... how.... how
Stones vs Beatles. Whoever wins, we lose.
Honestly there's nothing wrong with this album, however I don't think it is for me. I was rather bored listening to each song, but there were some parts in the songs where it got catchy, otherwise not my cup of tea.
Too country for me personally, but No Expectations is a banger
I feel like i am missing something with the Stones, it is just not clicking for me
The Rolling Stones are a difficult band for me to evaluate. There is no denying their importance to rock history and the enormous influence they have had on generations of musicians. However, when I reach for music from that era, there are many other bands I would rather listen to. As part of this challenge, I have now listened to this album for the third time. It is perfectly fine and I can understand why so many people regard it as a classic. That said, it simply does not connect with me on a deeper level. I do not dislike it, but I also do not feel any real need to return to it once the album is over. It is one of those records that I can acknowledge as good without feeling personally invested in it. The same applies even more to the band’s later career. From the 1970s onward, including their more recent releases, the Rolling Stones have never really held my interest. While I respect their legacy and longevity, their music is not something I actively seek out or feel compelled to revisit. In the end, this is an album I can appreciate more with my head than with my heart. A respectable listen, but not an essential one for me.
This was much more country-ish than I expected. Not a big fan.
Starts off strong and ends up just being disappointing. Why do the Stones hurt me so much.
5/22/26. The first track is amazing, the rest is so-so to me. To me, Rolling Stones are a good band, but a lot of their work feels mundane to me.
2 really great tracks a couple of other decent acoustic tracks and a bunch of recycled or 'stones' style blues songs. Seems every stones album I've ever listened to is the same - 10% of it brilliant, 10% decent and the rest dross
Not for me. Couple of good songs but that’s it.
Sympathy For The Devil is a very strong opening which the rest of the album never rises to again. Dear Doctor reminds me again of my own review of their self-titled album, "a pale imitation of the American music which inspired it", which I stand by, although it was fun. This is the sixth bloody Rolling Stones album I have had on this list, out of 700-odd. I think that's too many. They are such a household name in rock and roll I was expecting them to be a musical force of nature but even after a half-dozen exposures I am resolutely underwhelmed. A final note: I really like the "alternate covers" album art, a photo of the band in a small but grand hall with a banquet table covered with food. It just does something for me. This album art is of a toilet, though.
Second Rolling Stones album, even more unimpressed. Who gave these guys a microphone? Who mixed this???
I can't even tell how I feel about Sympathy for the devil as a song, I know I don't want to hear it but it could be I'm just sick of it. The rest of the A side I did not care for at all. Totally unremarkable blues tunes. I like the blues but I like it with soul and musicianship, these songs have neither. I was thinking it would be a 1 star rating but the b side saved it. I really liked Street Fighting Man, the least bluesy song on the album. Prodigal Son, Stray Cat Blues and Salt of the Earth (which was the only other song I knew from the album) also made my 1001 playlist. As an aside, Charlie Watts (drummer) was terrible on this! His fills are so basic and many are out of time.
It's kinda boring. Sympathy For The Devil is a classic and seeing it was the opening track had me excited for this, but the second track lost me and while there are a couple of mild bangers like Street Fighting Man, most of this album went straight into one ear and out the other. Bluesy Americana infused rock but doesn't have a lot of flavour to it
Albummet har desværre ikke rigtigt fanget mig på 3-4 gennemlytninger. et par sange stak ud, men ellers er albummet meget forglemmeligt for mit vedkommende. Standouts: Sympathy For The Devil (Selvfølgelig), Jigsaw Puzzle (Beatles + Dylan), Salt Of The Earth
didn’t really do it for me. i found it rather boring and repetitive.
Never knew Sympathy For The Devil was the opening track to an overall quite boring honky, bluesrock album.
After listening to a few of their records here (I think this is the 3rd) I have decided that I don’t care for the Stones
No sure if I get the Stone (I will try another album)
Did not like this at all. The only saving grace is that it has street fighting man on it.
Love the overall vibe, very wild, very artful, very raw, very influential. Loved reading about the history and connections that it had and made. Loved the themes and sounds and instruments clashing together in a beautiful purposeful dissonance. Very awesome, unfortunately not my type of sound but I can still appreciate it for what it is and how much it means to people and the world. However, I do have to agree with other people in their analysis that this album may only be seen as greatly as it is because of The Rolling Stones name, if anyone else had made it I know even I(someone who has never listened to a Rolling Stones album before this) would not see it as favorably. I want so hard to jam out to this, but I can really only enjoy it from a far. Like a memory of a great song from your childhood but when you listen to it again you go "oh...I mean its definitely still good its just...not how I remember...".
They have the energy and charisma that makes me understand their success, but I just don’t enjoy the music (apart from Sympathy for the Devil) - maybe it’s the exaggerated parody of American southern music that just feels a bit ridiculous. I think the best part of the album is Mick Jagger’s snarling, slightly discordant voice, but the music just generally doesn’t connect with me.
Really poor in parts, sorry but what was they thinking. The first song is solid, but it really dips in quality and seems to have aged incredibly poorly in my opinion. Where albums like Dark side of moon are still great to hear years later, this is not.
Another instance of The Rolling Stones doing one or two good rock songs and a bunch of jangly blues in between. I wouldn't mind jangly blues if it were coming from a different band but I just can't take the Stones seriously in that space. Mick Jagger's definitely the main offender there - the band sounds fine otherwise. Sympathy for the Devil is great, Street Fighting Man is fine, not fond of the rest.
Didn't like it
Some decent tracks, but I have to admit I zoned out a few times. Favourite track: Sympathy for the devil
Yeah the stones are also very overated. I did enjoy this one at least a little though and most songs were above average 5.5/10
Great start and great end. But the middle didn’t grab me once. I know this is a classic but I’m not going to lose sleep over not liking it. Sonic Youth surprised me after a mid intro. Looking forward to more
Sympathy for the Devil is probably one of my all-time favorite songs but the rest of this album didn’t hold up for me.
All the songs blend into each other too much. It just feels like one long song. No diversity.
not great
2/5. The Stones get so many free passes, it's nuts. They're an amazing band with absurdly high potential — several songs of theirs are legendary level — but you gotta be able to call filler filler, and this album is almost all filler. Blues is integral to rock and roll, and that very much holds true for the Stones — but the Stones best songs tend to be closer to rock than blues, and unfortunately so many of the songs here are heavy on the blues side. They're still competent songs, but I don't know why I'd listen to Jagger, Richards, et al. play 5/10 blues when Howlin' Wolf, John Mayall, and Elmore James are right down the hall. That said, my favorite songs — the obvious "Sympathy for the Devil," and "Street Fighting Man" — are the ones furthest from Blues on the album. Those songs still draw from that well, but they're closer to rock than the others. It's an album where you can safely extract the two good songs and toss the rest out.
Just not a Stones fan but otherwise okay. Sounds like a working man cosplay album. Only diamond is sympathy for the devil.
I did immediately go ‘ugh not this’ upon refreshing the page, curious to see if my opinion improves after listening. ETA: my opinion has not changed. The only song I like is Sympathy for the Devil and that’s mostly down to nostalgia and a fun drum beat.
you actually don’t need to listen to this stones album before you die.
This is a lot more honky tonk than I expected. Spotify Auto played some TRex after this was over and that was better, so I can only give this two stars - and those stars are all earned by Sympathy for the Devil.
nicht für mich. der country touch auf dem album ist nicht wirklich meins.
1. Sympathy For The Devil - klasikaa rogorc chans not my style mara kargia 2. No Expectations - pirvelze metad es momewona 3. dear doctor - mid 4. parachute woman -nah 5. jigsaw puzzle - i like it 6. street fighting man - just not for me 7. prodigal son - nope 8. stray cat blues - esec momwons 9. factoryy girl- vafshe ar momewona 10. salt of the earth - tavisi xibli aqvs, momwons
I did not expect this album to have so much of a country/folk feel. Of course, there were a couple standard bluesy rock n' roll songs, but the entire album had a mostly introspective vibe. "Salt Of The Earth" sounded the most memorable to me, but otherwise this wasn't super remarkable to me.
Ninguna canción me voló la cabeza
Not my cup of tea had a few good songs
Songs I like in this album - No expectations. Okay, maybe all. I don't like how the album sounds. But it's enough to take my mind off intrusive thoughts. Would recommend when you want to silence your thoughts. Going through a breakup so this helps.
A change back to blues Rock - sounding a bit country.
wow i didn't expect this album to be so... twangy?? my ears didn't enjoy it unfortunately and i almost couldnt finish....
Already know sympathy for the devil Funny how rock and roll evolved from the Beatles and the stones were a huge part in the transformation to something heavier. This one sounds so light so far Some of the blues elements on the third track remind me of Led Zeppelin Seems they were returning to their blues roots for the whole album I like the piano at the end of jigsaw puzzle I wish it was more prominent throughout the whole song Was bored with street fighting man Liked prodigal son right off the bat, turns out it’s a cover of an old blues song so that tracks Songs like salt of the earth remind me why I hate the stones where who tf let this old English dude sing? He sounds bad. Oh good they added a choir to cover him up
As any self-respecting 60s rock fan knows, this is the one where the Rolling Stones dropped their ill-advised attempts to match the Beatles' psychedelic rock and truly became *the Stones*. Unfortunately for me, I actually really liked their forays into psychedelia, and don't care too much for bluesy rock. This classic period lives or dies by the big songs for me, but "Sympathy for the Devil" has always been my least favorite of those.
Overall, pretty rubbish. A couple of them were listenable enough. Will not listen again
While it avoids a 1.0 thanks to Charlie Watts' superior drumming and a more tolerable vocal delivery compared to other country-rock acts, the album is still a terrible experience for those who despise the genre. The "jazz-inflected" rhythm section provides a much-needed backbone, but it's not enough to save an inherently boring and dusty musical structure.
fine, I just don't care???
I like the stones just fine but every album gets 2 stars, except Some Girls which will get 5 stars because it's the only truly good album they ever made :)
I don't know how the Stones became considered essential classics. This album is a prime example that they don't write great albums. Beggars Banquet is not a good album. Starting with the two tracks everyone knows, street fighting man is nothing special. Sympathy for the Devil is an annoying song. It's over 6 minutes of "hoo hoo.... Hoo hoo... Hoo hoo". There are no hidden jems in the remaining album tracks. The rest are the generic and forgettable.
Rolling Stones never illicits anything more than a shrug out of me. Glad for those who can find the enthuisiasm I lack or something.
Not their best work
Equal to their other ones tbh
Another album by The Kidney Stones rolling by.
Doesn't spark joy for me
Patchy. Some brilliant songs but too much filler. Could have been amazing if they'd made a dark concept album around Sympathy and Streetfighting Man.
Another one Im not super into. Maybe don't like blue music. Sympathy for the devil and factory girl are good songs though added to rotation.
Me cagan los rollin estons, espero este bueno el album
Probably one of their best, but age has not been kind to the Stones or this album. Sympathy would be a stellar opener for any album, and Jigsaw and Parachute are great to end side 1, but Stray Cat Blues kind of sums up the toxic blokeishness (ahem) at the heart of Their Satanic Majesties. And what can you say about Factory Girl & Salt of the Earth? Perhaps the title is more apt than it initially seems.
Weirdly bad (apart from the obvious). Is this the point The Stones lost it?
Best song: Factory Girl
I can't help it. But the more blues-forward a Rolling Stones' song is, the less I like it — give me Sympathy for the Devil and Jig-Saw Puzzle over No Expectations, Dear Doctor, and Parachute Woman, for instance. I understand this puts me in the minority of listeners but it's always been this way. Unfortunately, the split overall on Beggars Banquet is not in favor of my preferences even as there were enough good songs to save this record from a one star review but just barely.
It is fine. I just don't care about it.
Good, I enjoyed how blues heavy it was.
I got Sticky Fingers about a month ago and listening to that album made me realize just how prolific of a singer/songwriter MICK JAGGER IS. If I had been born IN the '60s, it might have even been one of my favorites! I suppose someone doesn't become one of THE richest rock stars alive (with a net worth even greater than New York financier Jeff EPSTEIN) by making milquetoast music. I honestly enjoyed Beggars Banquet several degrees less than Sticky Fingers – I found the songs to be a lot less memorable this time around and it's not really my thing stylistically. However, I'm someone who often FILES albums away in the back of my mind for later, so I'll be sure to revisit this one if I'm craving some Rolling Stones country/roots rock. Highlights: Sympathy for the Devil
First song is good, then the rest is more of the same. Fast and okay listen.
Sympathy for the Devil is such a strong start to this album. After that, it kinda falls off. There's still some strong songs, but Salt of the Earth is trash.
they really are a singles band, huh
Man, one song really can sell a lot of albums
Beggars Banquet sounds good production-wise (head above the prized Exile on Main St.). But I can’t say I enjoyed most of its songs (harmonica again, sigh). The opener is the clear standout; the rest is just fine. For me the Rolling Stones are at their best when they leave their roots behind.
sounds too samey one song after another
Pretty unimaginative beyond its two hit songs. They made better records at all stages of their career
Eh fine
Pas vraiment pris mon pied, ou pas dans ce mood. Du rock fin années 60, trop doux, je n'ai pas analysé les lyrics.
Sadly not for me at all
it wasn't bad it just wasn't for me, I found it hard to get into it.
Two Rolling Stones albums in a week gather even more moss - I can't say I really enjoy this enough to put it on again which probably won't be a popular view!
Turgid, a star given for sympathy for the devil which I don't even like
