Reviews (page 6 of 12)
This was really fun. It’s a bit long at an hour and seventeen minutes but basically every song rips.
This album was recorded at concerts in 1976/77 & released in June 1978. In October 1978, I was one of 100,000 people who saw Thin Lizzy at the free 2SM Rocktober concert, in the forecourt of Sydney Opera House. I have to say I was more interested in the support bands Sports, from Melbourne, & American band Wha-Koo, whose lead singer, David Palmer, had sung lead on the Steely Dan classic, Dirty Work. Wha-Koo were dreadful. It was Thin Lizzy’s concert for the taking. I imagine the set-list would not have been too different to this album. The line up, however had changed - Brian Robertson had quit the band when this album was released, replaced by Gary Moore. The twin-guitar thing was a killer. Unsurprisingly, the album sounds great - it was produced by Tony Visconti. I never thought Lizzy wrote great songs, except for The Boys Are Back In Town, but they make up for it with their gung-ho approach here. As live double-albums go, this one’s a real winner.
Additional notes. Add them before you vote using the stars below. Welcome to the Afterfuture Mike Ladd 4 Global reviews I liked Phil Lynott, he was taken too soon. I actually prefer the studio versions of most of these songs but there's no denying the live versions bring a lot of energy not to mention some amazing guitar snd drum virtuosity
Highlight: The Boys Are Back In Town
Loud, raucous and a hell of a lot of fun. Phil Lynott’s charisma and talent are evident even in a purely audio format.
Ég er náttúrulega sökker fyrir Phil Lynott. Skemmtileg læv plata, flest bestu lögin.
Super cool album, the vibe is really chill and viby and there are some super great guitar solos ! Actually surprised by the amount of bangerness in the album. Would definitely listen to again. Big 4.5 / 5
Great gand, great live
Bra!
Never heard of it before. Not here for "still in love with you" (ugh "please come back I'm feeling ~lonely~" from a man, can we not?) Other than that, GREAT old-school heavy metal! 1970s Irish band, some mellow influences. Good "best of album".
Real rock.
Overdubbed or not, it still makes for an exhilarating and positive compilation. Excellent proper rock n roll to wipe away the joke of punk!!!!
People have been telling me forever that Thin Lizzy is awesome but I never really believed them. I believe them now. They're awesome! They have a hard rock style that stretches from heavy metal to blues rock and everything in between. “Emerald” even takes an Irish jig melody and turns it into a heavy metal jam - never heard that before! I was feeling pretty down this afternoon and “Still in Love With You” just completely changed the direction of my mood and my day. What a great song and a great performance! Love those guitar solos! And I love that intense drum solo on “Sha-La-La” and the way the crowd joins in by clapping! Really fun to hear the live performances. It's a well-recorded live album and captures the fun and energy of the show. Phil Lynott is a great showman and I enjoyed hearing his intros and banter. I'm probably gonna come back to this in a few months and go, "I shoulda given this one a 5."
Awesome album. So many Thin Lizzy hits on this record and I was first thinking that it was surprising that if there's only one Thin Lizzy album on this list that it would be a live one, but it makes sense because this set list was jam packed. "Jailbreak" "Rosalie / Cowgirls Song" "Still in Love with You" "The Boys are Back in Town" are all great. I don't think I've heard this record before but I think it's going to become my primary listen when I am like "ooh I need to listen to Thin Lizzy!". Phil Lynott was a king.
I`m not a fun of Live album, but this is good
Good live album.
Its all fun and games until somebody does a drum solo
Suicide best song. Especially the guitar part towards the end. Album gets better the further into it you get. Mr Lizzy has a lovely irish accent
Very solid. Classic songs on here, might go higher if I relisten
Full album isn't on Spotify, sadly. From the 6-7 songs I heard it's pretty good. I've always been a mild fan of these guys - they get up and go, but I'd never rave about how fantastic they are. Either way this is an easy 4/5.
Finally got around to listening to this. I’m not usually a fan of live albums but this was phenomenal.
Very good! Would listen again
Almost as good of a live album as The Stone’s Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out.
A great rock and roll album I had never heard before. Love the voice, the twin guitars, the lyrics, the variation between hard driving songs and ballads… I will definitely be listen to this again!
Love some Phil
I'm a fan... I only knew about two songs before but this is sneaky good
This is a great live album. I didn’t know many of the songs but they all were good songs. Huey Lewis on harmonica!
Pretty solid rock album. Enjoyed the energy of the album.
A better than average live rock album, in terms of songs and production, with the highlights being the legendary guitar work and riffs that would define the 80s.
Nice classic rock album that has an excellent sound quality for a live album but lacks a few bigger hits
Leuk live album.
More classic rock goodness.
Great music
Rocking and rolling
Great guitar with a great rock band
First time ever listening to Thin Lizzy. I was expecting whiny rock, but was pleasantly surprised!
A *double* live album? Mercy. Of course I trust the list enough to at least give it a listen. Probably doesn't help that I'm not familiar with Thin Lizzy beyond "The Boys are Back" and "Jailbreak" and "Whiskey in a Jar". The album cover goes out of its way to emphasize, um, shall we say, "masculine energy". So that's what I'm expecting. Starts moderately strong and then we get the little bon mot confirming the impression given by the cover art. Moving on, it all sounds amazingly good, possibly because it apparently isn't *really* live. But there's a certain energy missing. Perhaps because it isn't one performance straight through, and the overdubbing, there's no feeling of momentum. Still, the overall chops are impressive even if I'm feeling like it all falls a little flat for me. Two days ago the album generator gave me Metallica live with the San Francisco Orchestra. That was a worthy project and may be coloring my judgement of Thin Lizzie's effort by a star. But now reading Phil Lynott's sad story I feel a little guilty about my overly harsh judgement and want to give that star back.
This was pretty fun. I bet it was a great concert
Good all around rock.
Stark trea. Kommer att återbesöka studioversioner av Thin Lizzy
Jailbreak - 7/10 Emerald - 10/10 Southbound - 8/10 Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song - 7/10 Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me In Its Spotlight) - 7/10 Massacre - 8/10 Still In Love With You - 8/10 Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed - 7/10 Cowboy Song - 9/10 The Boys Are Back In Town - 9/10 Don't Believe a Word - 9/10 Warriors - 10/10 Are You Ready - 7/10 Suicide - 8/10 Sha-La-La 7/10 Baby Drive Me Crazy - 8/10 The Rocker - 7/10
Good rock album
Shame only half the album is on Spotify, because I definitely enjoyed what was there!
Good live energy and instrumentation. Lyrics not very interesting.
I have TL's "Jailbreak". But besides the two or three big hits from that album, I could not tell you the other tracks. Having said that, I kind of liked this album. It's a nice live representation of the band and what their style was. And Huey Lewis plays harmonica on a track?! Whoa. I don't think I've ever complained about this on an album before, but the mix is very off. It's like they had vocals pumped through one lead, and all the instruments on another. I know other live albums of the era were not like this. Then there's the argument of this is even a live album to begin with. A lot of live albums of that time had MASSIVE overdubs. This one (at least by one of the producers) seems to be of similar feel. That's what I get from the stuff online, anyway. So I can't really say either way. Regardless, I liked the songs they did play, even though I only knew two of them. The others seemed to groove pretty well, and even with a fairly lame drum solo, this would be the disc I would pick to be a good representation of the band. Definitely one I would pick out.
first listen blisteringly cool
thin lizzy is the greatest rock band to ever do it
Very fun. Some great jams on this. Fun album goes so quickly
Listened to on 5/18/22 4/5 Favorite song: The Boys are Back in Town, Jailbreak I usually hate live music but this album was SO fun and made me feel like I was front row at their concert - big fan of the 70s vibe
There are over 1,000 Christmas songs but only one song about the boys being back in town
Half the album not available on Spotify. Four stars because it's Lizzy.
I had not heard this previously and I haven't listened to much Lizzy besides the "hits", so this was a nice wide range of tracks spread throughout this double LP. They sounded like a great band to see live and this live record brings life and a freshness to the studio tracks. Will listen repeatedly!
Tiukkaa, solidii rokkii
I still strongly feel that a live album on this list is a list way of sneaking in a best of but this has been great. 4/5
Rad discovery!
I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would!
Rocked!
I read an article talking about how classic rock radio does a disservice to artists by condensing varied careers into just a couple of signature songs that get played. Thin Lizzy was used as the prime example and after listening to this album, that article was spot on. Thin Lizzy is known for their hard rock two guitar harmony, but their music incorporates elements form soul, jazz, blues, and of course Irish traditional music. Phil Lynott is an incredible frontman and his lyrics explore the trials of the working class, something with which he was very familiar. To top it off, these guys are just phenomenal players. I’ve grown quite disillusioned by classic rock as I’ve gotten older, but Thin Lizzy shows that despite its tired superiority complex, classic rock is often seen as classic for a reason.
For not being a huge Thin Lizzy fan this live album has a lot of energy. Still in Love with You and Emerald are great on this album.
4/5. Solid, hard-rocking, and pretty proto-maiden. Can’t ask for much more
A bit too long. Production very good. Phil’s voice is really good. Guitars are good too.
Quite like this band. 4 stars probably. My favorites in broad genre are still 1 man/woman and microphone or a rather simple band with a few instruments. This falls close to the latter. If it gets too electrical or too screaming metal not so my taste, but quite like this.
Good live album with a lot of classic tunes on it. 4
good rocking, 4-; album is really long, but it wasn't too tiring, I really enjoyed it
Flows so well for a live album, impeccable guitar playing. Every second song sounds like they're about to break into Boys Are Back in Town at any moment but that doesn't bother me.
gillade detta rätt mycket faktiskt. älskar rösten hans.
Excellent introduction to phil lynott and thin lizzy.
Fairly solid album. I am a bit biased though considering I’m Irish… Strong songs. Bit long however and also not a big fan of live albums…
A solid show, even if it's a few shows stitched together. I knew about Thin Lizzy before, but had never listened to what I heard past the songs on the radio. Excited to get one of their records on this list. The transition from "Cowboy Song" to "The Boys Are Back In Town" is fantastic. Favorite tracks: "Don't Believe A Word", "Dancing In the Moonlight", "Still In Love With You"
I knew virtually nothing about this band, but this was an impressive introduction. The quality here is better than many rock studio albums. None of the songs blew my mind at all, but it was solid and fun
Thin Lizzy live up to the live album's name with some of the most ferocious, flat out rocking tunes that came out of 1970s Ireland. The live cut of Rosalie/Cowgirl's Song is stupendously great and the segue from Cowboy Song to The Boys Are Back in Town is godly. Good times abound here! Favorites: Southbound, Rosalie/Cowgirl's Song, Still in Love With You, Cowboy Song, The Boys Are Back in Town, Warrior, Sha-La-La.
The band actually sounded really though I don't really care for them. Has a very 70s rock sound. 7/10.
Rock
Muddy sounding at points, but the songs and performances are awesome. Had to find the deluxe edition, as the regular was missing a few of the songs for some reason.
jam band AC/DC background rock. live recording adds extra pizazz
Only a handful of live albums on here so far. There is a certain sound and atmosphere from a live album, and while this is not one I ever thought I wanted or needed to hear, it is a decent collection of songs performed by a somewhat underrated band in their heyday. Jailbreak is a sweet track to open a concert with, and I had no idea that Rosalie was a Bob Seger cover. I knew it only as a Thin Lizzy song, and consequently the name of my daughter. While this is not a classic in my mind, there's not one clunker here, which I think is the appeal of most good live albums. I can't really rail too hard against this.
The album listens end-to-end like a classic rock narrative about tough kids living rough lives. Almost like a coming-of-age rock opera following the lives of the youth of a town in the mid 20th century. For me, the absolute bright spot of this album is the explosive intensity of 'Massacre' segued into the lamentation of 'Still in Love With You'. Both songs and performances are phenomenal, but something about them being back-to-back heightens the poignance of both. Overall, the quality of the album (overdubbed or not) did well to maintain the air of a live performance and showcased exactly why Thin Lizzy deserves their place on this list.
classic
blistering performances of some of lizzys greatest hits. Soaring harmonies, punchy bass, swinging drum lines and phil's iconic snarl and grimly poetic lyrics all recontextualized in a live setting. It's excellent.
This is not what I thought Thin Lizzy sounded like, was expecting much more glam rock for whatever reason. The 70s dangled a souvenir for many future bands, and passed on a fair legacy
Nice discoverment, Irish Band, Phil Lynott lead singer and writer, statue in Dublin
Swag!
A right old dripping fanny of a record. She's a squirter. SHE'S A SQUIRTER, MAVIS! FETCH THE LAWNMOWER, I'M COMING IN!
One of the best live albums I’ve listened to in a long time. The rock is pure and pleasant without swerving into metally thrashing. Can hear some of the bands they’ve inspired throughout the album - especially Ween on a few tracks. I can’t get enough of “Dancing in the Spotlight”.
This was a pretty enjoyable live album. It didn’t all sound the same and the big hits were fun. Not much to say about it other than that it was a good listen. Fav songs: emerald, boys are back in town
I hate live albums, this was a rare exception. Brilliant
Some amazing songs on this. My bass guitar teacher had me learning loads of Thin Lizzy tracks at one point, so listening to this elicited some nostalgic feelings. That being said, it's perhaps a little too long which makes repeat listens feel a bit of a slog. 3.5 stars, but I'll round up
1978 - Rock
I saw Thin Lizzy on this tour in 1978 - they were wonderful, and set the template for hard rocking bands to follow. Les Pauls and Marshalls on the side, bass player in the middle - Big Country, Hanoi Rocks, Guns N Roses and The Supersuckers all made hay on the basic form. This is a cracking live album, even if there are strong suggestions that lots of it was tweaked after the event.
The Boys Are Back in Town Still in Love with You,
Amazing live album
As a big Thin Lizzy I’m always going to be biased. 8/10. Rocks hard, has moments of vulnerability as well, and the lyrics are more poetic than you might expect. There are some songs which aren’t quite as strong, but there isn’t a bad song on the album.
Not my thing, really, but that doesn't obscure the fact that this is an excellently put together album. Just good vibes.
Live albums should not be on the list as these are more or less greatest hits. But if you put one on it, this is a good candidate. Good banging hard rock by a band with a lot of drive in their performance.
Seems similar to early Judas Priest, which is interesting since they continued into heavier territories. Awesome songwriting.
One of the better live albums I’ve heard. The bob seger cover song and combination of songs from multiple albums make it worthwhile. If it wasn’t live it’d be great but overall I still liked it. 7.5/10
Surprised to see a live album but i liked it
Quite a good album. I don’t normally enjoy live albums but this one went over really well. They definitely have a lot of great hits and a good presence. I’ve enjoyed a lot of their songs in the past and could see myself enjoying more.
Such a fun album. Great performance, too. Still In Love With You is a brilliant song and the drum solo on Sha-La-La is fantastic.
Amazing live set
Good rock album
Good, guitar solos. Not super entrapping.
Southbound, temazo.
Loved this group’s music... high school tunes rocked.....You’re always hear the songs when we went to Friday night and Saturday night parties
Vähän taas helppo nelonen tällaiselle very best of the best tallenteelle. Hyvällä mielellä nelonen taas siksi, että The Boys Are Back tuo aina mieleen Vintiöiden sketsit.
Awesome!
Toimii.
I actually really enjoyed this
very good music with very catchy lyrics and amazing guitar. all recorded live music though so not the best for headphones
Tons of fun and energy. Classic glam rock sound, Irish. Amazing guitar. Surprisingly good quality for a live album.
7
Bastante bastante bueno
nice
Powerful, energetic, twin guitars, Lynott at his best. Classic!
Phil Lynott a tope.
I’ve never really listened to much Thin Lizzy, but this seems like the kind of concert I could have gone to and had a good time regardless of that fact. Pretty standard 80s rock, but still fun. I’m going to exclude “Jailbreak” and “The Boys Are Back In Town” from below and focus more on the songs I didn’t know. Favorite Tracks: “Emerald,” “Massacre,” and “Baby Drives Me Crazy”
Semibängeri Slässic Hard rock
Such an awesome live album. The energy was absolutely incredible and the pure rock atmosphere was something to imagine when listening away. Sweet sweet sweet guitar riffs and some awesome rocking ballads. Would highly recommend.
Really enjoyed this. This was great driving music.
Really good even tho some fake
class
Erittäin asiallista jytärokkijytäilyä. Ensiluokkaista hiihtolenkkimusaa. Useampiakin tuttuja biisejä joita en välttämättä olisi osannut yhdistää Thin Lizzyyn. Selvästi aukkoja tämän genren tuntemuksessa! Ehkä tähän mennessä tämän projektin suurin positiivinen yllätys ennakkoluuloihin verrattuna.
Oldie but goodie
a good rockin time, first listen to any thin lizzy which is weird considering how i grew up on this kinda music but i dig it, lean more toward the heavier stuff but the blues rock numbers are nice too. good energy and really good mixing
Didn't realize I knew so many Thin Lizzy songs already! Good classic rock
One of the best albums ever.
Only listened to half, pretty solid shit. Thin Lizzy is good shit
12/1 Damn good live Rock album. Didn't even see that the boys were back in town on this. Standout Tracks: Emerald, Southbound, Dancing in the Moonlight, Still in Love with You, The Boys Are Back in Town, Sha-La-La, The Rocker
Loved it - not one bad song on the ablum. Will revisit.
Pretty long but had some really solid moments! Gotta love thin lizzy. I recently watched a video about how live albums are “faked.” Was def interesting listening to this with that context. I love the fake sound of it though it’s def a product of its time
Ye it was good, I don’t think I paid that much attention tbh, that’s my bad Highlights: Dancing in the Moonlight Massacre Still in Love With You Fav: Massacre I think
don't really have much of an opinion. kind of turned into background noise at some point...
Lowkey they had that shit locked down
hat mir eigentlich gefallen vorallem southbound, dancing in the moonlight & still in love with you
Not a fan of Live Albums on here, im also not really a fan of compilation albums either. But this was a great listen.
Ça, c'est du rock
Fun stuff. They rock, surprising range considering the big hits. Would have been a few fun concerts to get fucking drunk as shit at.
Strong 3 ******************************************** --Jailbreak...good song. prefer the studio version --Emerald...hell yeah dueling guitars. headbanger --Southbound...we slow things down. it's pleasant but I want more songs like "Emerald" --Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song...penned by Bob Seger and it sounds like it --Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight)...another pleasant groove but give me more "Emerald"! --Massacre...here we go. hell yeah --Still in Love with You...pleading ballad. too long. nice guitar at the end --Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed...funky fresh --Cowboy Song...the double lead guitars really add something --The Boys Are Back in Town...classic fun. the backup vocals don't hit as hard live --Don't Believe a Word...another sick guitar solo --Warrior...solid rocker --Are You Ready...generic but fun arena rocker --Suicide...way more fun than the title implies --Sha La La...fun bass but pretty forgettable overall. turns into a drum solo. not a fan of drum solos --Baby Drives Me Crazy...some honky-tonk stuff. it's a groove --The Rocker...title ain't lying
Decent enough but not a fan of live albums
Hard to give a fair shot when Spotify only has a quarter of the album at the time I got this entry, even then it's Thin Lizzy and what is on Spotify is some great live versions of their biggest hits
Not a big fan of live albums, but this one is pretty good. Made for good background music while working
In terms of a live album this is a pretty good one they did all the hits and I'm sure if I was there I would have been stoked as fuck. Today I did learn that Thin Lizzy was from Ireland.
Elävä ja vaarallinen ohut lizzy. Menevää rokkia, livelevy vähä verotti kuuntelua.
Really enjoyed listening to the guitar and the overall vibes. You can definitely envision the energy he brought to the stage. It was the perfect background music it didn’t annoy me at all really.
I enjoyed discovering Thin Lizzy live.
Suprisingly good. I never really resonated with Thin Lizzy but I enjoyed this live album it is however a little long but hey its a live set so what would you expect. Nice riffs solid vocals a little Clarkson style Dad Rock otherwise its wasnt bad at all.
Going in I only knew a couple of the hits (The Boys Are Back In Town and Jailbreak), neither of which I enjoy very much. Some of this album was surprisingly good, especially the first few songs. It got a little tedious as it went along, and the last four or five songs were especially boring. This could have been a pretty good single-length album, but it overstays its welcome as is. 3/5
I still don't understand why all these live albums are on here. I can't really feel the energy if I'm not there. This one was fine
Dime a dozen 70s rock. For some reason, the author of this list loves that shit. I don't. I doesn't move anything in me and I don't really find it fun or interesting. I listened to it, and I didn't hate it.
Very good fun
Cool little breakdown followed by guitar trading on "Emerald". The sudden sforzando (near the end, about a minute left ) on "Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song" was pretty cool. The crowd is into them!!! "Dancing in the Moonlight" has a pretty cool opening, doubling-of-the-bassline sort of deal. The first sign of horns is also on this song!! Saxophone solo is mic'd + going through the house?, it could be given a little more love (volume needs to be turned up). Cool start to "Massacre". "Still in Love with You" has a nice placement in the set. Get people going in the start with energy-filled, upbeat songs and then take them down after a couple with a ballad. "Cowboy Song", I feel, is used as a transition out of the slower couple of tunes beforehand to get back to the upbeat songs by having the intro be a sort of "as-cued" section. Dropped straight into "The Boys are Back in Town", cool way to do it.
I like a rock live album and this was pretty good. Nothing I loved or a top rock/live album for me, but good.
i firmly believe every artist should release a live album for each of their albums. something about a live recording is so much better. great record with lots of energy and power!
Serviceable if somewhat short live album
Pretty fun!
Definitely not a fan of live albums, I’ve realized. It’s… decent? But really not my style.
Kinda long but overall I enjoyed it. I'd give it a 4 if it ended after Don't Believe a Word. The Boys Are Back In Town goes hard.
Rating: 7/10 Pretty cool live 70's album and could just be the way I would most prefer to listen to some Thin Lizzy. You can definitely tell it has a studio revision quality to it but it still makes for a good 'live version' of a lot of these fun rock songs. The main highlights are the whole tracks 1-6 run, and Cowboy Song and The Boys Are Back In Town back to back is great. Warriors had some cool soloing. After that the double album starts to tire a bit. I like a lot of the canon around them. A Dublin band, a black hard rock frontman at that time, and him being a groovy bassist at that, is a pretty cool and unique combination of qualities. I'm not sure if I'll ever really become a big fan but they definitely have my respect, I may be shuffling their songs in the future to check out more of their extensive work.
Like a naughtier Boston, or a more playful MC5, Thin Lizzy gave a good show. They were showmen, not visionaries, and they borrowed the musical tropes of the day shamelessly. Their project was obvious--sex and drugs and rock n roll--and apparently they were met by hordes of young adults who were fully on board with that cultural project as well. Enjoyable, certainly.
I’d never really explored much beyond TBABIT but this is lot better than I expected. Some really solid tracks and a lot more influential on Iron Maiden & metal then I appreciated.
I listened to this album as I tried jogging my way around downtown Glendale, turning my daily patrol into an exercise opportunity. I was immediately surprised at just how deep and resonant the voice of the lead singer was, and that surprise continued as I began to hear just how much more sophisticated and mature Thin Lizzy were than I had anticipated based on their vibe and the only song of theirs I knew, The Boys Are Back In Town. Unfortunately, I feel like this live album just doesn't resonate as deeply with me as it would if I knew the songs I feel like I'm missing out on the best versions of these songs, which feels even more bittersweet when I'm otherwise so pleasantly surprised at just how considerate and intellectual of a band Thin Lizzy were. If there's one main feeling I took away from Live And Dangerous, it's a sense of disappointment for having only known this band for The Boys Are Back In Town, and even then, for not fully appreciating just how deep even that song was. I also did a huge double-take when I heard the band shout-out their harmonica player on Baby Drives Me Crazy, Huey goddamn Lewis. Every performance here is technically proficient and energetically performed, I just don't have much connection to these songs, and the live takes just don't win me over as much as the studio versions probably would. Highlights: Jailbreak, Southbound, Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song, Dancing in the Moonlight, Still in Love with You, The Boys Are Back in Town, Warrior, The Rocker
This is an enjoyable album and it works very well as a "live" experience. There's a lot of great guitar work here, that is probably the biggest strength on display, and there are some fun songs as well. Favorite tracks: "Still in Love with You," "Baby Drives Me Crazy"
It was solid, some songs I really liked and others I didn't care about.
This was better than I anticipated. Pretty good songs even though the recording was kinda wack. The guitar work here is really fun
This goes on and on and on, but you get the gist of it after a couple songs. "The Boys Are Back in Town" is a classic, though I appreciated "Are You Ready," "Massacre," and "Dancing in the Moonlight" as well. I'll be fine with those, because I found this pretty repetitive overall.
I liked it - I think it's hard for me to like really really engage with hard rock albums like this for some reason. I think it's the lack of highs and lows. when everything is up beat like this it can just feel monotonous
Its alright, they have a lot of energy but it gets very samey and I prefer the studio versions. It starts off really strong but the sameyness kicks in about halfway through.
at first I was like meh and then I was like aight, idk if I'd ever put this on though even though the concert is awwesome 3.49?
Fun - nothing overly special. Favorite songs: Still in Love with you, Dancing in the moonlight Rating: 6.5/10
good
Good 70’s rock. They opened with their best song. Too many ballads
★★★☆☆ Bastante bueno para ser en vivo.

Damn
Kinda fun but who needs to listen to this
Inoffensive, cool and mostly good. Obvikenobi boys r back I recognize
So I don't like live albums. They turn me off. The music on this one was pretty okay though.
Notable Textzeile: I am just a cowboy, lonesome on the trail Lord, I'm just thinkin' about a certain female The nights we spent together ridin' on the range Lookin' back, it seems so strange Es gibt immer wieder Bands bei denen ich denke, ah das hatten wir doch schon mal, und dann hatten wir es doch noch nicht.
Bin maximal neutral.
I have not listened to this whole thing yet because my headphones BROKE!! But I actually liked what I heard. I think 70s cock rock sounds best when in this live setting. It's a raw, it's a bit sexy, and it sounds like a hell of a good time.
allg, i just always kinda dislike live albums idk why
Fun listen
A surprisingly good live album. The recording still sounds live, but the band's actual performance is great. I still don't understand the decision to pick a live album as a band's only inclusion on this list though.
I think thin Lizzy is very talented and underrated. It's a live album, which can be made or broken by the banter in between songs- - this one is fine.
Thin Lizzy for me was only represented by mainstream radio plays of The Boys are Back in Town, so it was a very narrow view of what seems like a fun and energetic rock band. Not quite at the level of Cheap Trick at Budokan, but a fun listen.
Sterk 3er
Pessfet! Men klarer ikke lange liveplater.
Great tunes a little long plus live albums are a bit naff
Darlings of classic rock who I never really got into. I remember my dad’s mate Lou raving about how great a band Thin Lizzy were but I struggled to hear the appeal as a teenager. Today I listen with more open ears and I can appreciate their sound a bit more, but it’s not revolutionary.
Some good hard rockin! Unfortunately nothing really stood out to bump up the rating, it was way too long, and there’s the whole overdubbing issue. So we’re keeping this at a 3. I did enjoy the good and frequent guitar solos though
Not much to remark. White boys be shreddin (back in town) Standouts: Emerald • Southbound • Still In Love With You
Good album but the length is not really justified by anything going on here. Yes I know it is a live album, but other than one bit of dialogue with the audience and some scattered clapping and cheering, it doesn't offer much beyond a studio album (especially knowing about the overdubs later)
Liked this more than I thought - high 3
#128/1001 🇮🇪🇬🇧 Wasnt expecting to enjoy this as much as i did as i'm not always a fan of the "live" albums compiled from a number of different dates. This captures all the power of a live set. Best Tracks: Jailbreak, Southbound, Still in Love with You, Boys are Back in Town.
Enjoyed this. I had no idea Thin Lizzy was Irish! They do a good job of sounding America. I really liked "Still in Love with You."
Didn't think I really knew Thin Lizzy but I have definitely heard most of these songs. They sound great live, would have been a fun band to see perform. I like Lynott's voice and the guitars are shredding. Hard rock to almost metal with some ballads thrown in as well. One gem I don't think I have heard before was Massacre, that was a nice find. It was a bit long for my taste but I get it for a "live" album. The last third was a bit of a slog to get through.
okay, good solos in some of them
Haven't heard much of this band before....when it's good it's great (Southbound) otherwise it's a little bit too classic-rock-FM-radio-"won't you clap your hands for me"-extended-harmonised-guitar-solo sounding to my tastes.
Didn't finish, didn't find interesting. Not a single album with a female vocalist so also waiting for that
Didn't dislike this as much as I thought. Always like a live album and they performed well live.
Did I need to listen to this album before I died? No. Was it an enjoyable, hard rock concert? Yes.
Good rock
It is OK. Not the biggest TL fan out there, but I just know their 2 or 3 radio hits. This live album was good, and it proves they can put on a show.
Classic rock album. Atmosphere of the live performance adds to the overall vibe.
This is alright, decent rock album. I find the "hybrid live" album a curious choice. It's definitely noticeable that it isn't a straight live album. I don't know much about Thin Lizzy other than The Boys Are Back in Town, and several of the other songs on this album have hints of the chords and melodies of that song. Got kind of tired of it towards the end. (3.5)
Not sure I understand the love for this one. Pure nostalgia? To my virgin ears this was perfectly decent but uninspiring 70s rock. Fun riffs and generally great guitar work, perfunctory vocals, tediously overlong. 'Jailbreak' in particular seemed like a week opener, the anemic vocals paling in comparison to the studio version. I hovered between 2 and 3 repeatedly, but I can't deny it had its moments.
I ADORE Thin Lizzy !! Just as good live as in studio. Fav song is ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’.
Niet zo mijn soort rock
Phil Lynott's vocals were ace. Very guitar solo heavy and potentially too long.
I’m not mad at this, it is fine yknow. I just think I could’ve died without listening to it
erin go bragh!
I liked this more than I expected. Really good energy and fun guitar work
I really thought I would hate this but it turns out I don't. While not my favorite band some of the guitar licks were pretty killer and the transition from Cowboy Song to The Boys are back in Town was pretty slick. Of all the butt rock bands, Thin Lizzy is the least bad.
Embarrassed to admit this, but The Boys Are Back in Town always reminds me of Entourage (and this is a positive association for me - that’s the embarrassing part).
I enjoyed this, and can totally feel how good it would have been to see thin Lizzy live.
mhe
I only knew The Boys Are Back In Town. I will continue to listen to that from time to time as that’s enough Thin Lizzy for me.
Kinda fun if you ignore the awful crowd banter.
I don’t understand the inclusion of live albums in this list to be honest. I will say this a good live album - the production is good, there’s not a lot of other nonsense going on in the tracks. I really like Phil Lynott’s voice. The hits are good versions on here too.
Honestly, I went in not expecting much but the overall vibe of this live concert seems actually really pleasant. Rock can easily veer into noise territory so I was surprised by how decent this was. The Boys Are Back In Town is the stand out track, no doubt. This is a must hear for casual rock fans for sure. Then there's the cover which is just great. No notes.
I'm not a fan of live albums, but this has great sound production
Very solid live performance. Of course the two songs I like are his most popular songs so checks out.
Wasn’t expecting a live double album this morning, but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would! Favourite track: Massacre
nao sei pa parem de me obrugar a dar ranking
A live hard rock album has an uphill battle to earn my appreciation, but this one got there. The sound quality certainly isn’t the best, but the strength of the singing and the guitar shines through. By the time I reached the middle of “Still In Love With You” I was in. That’s definitely the standout track from the set — no surprise it’s the most replayed from the album. I think this is the hard rock fun people told me I was missing with KISS (which I did not find fun or good in any way). The singing and lyrics here are better, the playing is far better, and the performance feels more authentic. I’m probably not going out of my way to listen to this again any time soon, and “The Boys Are Back In Town” still doesn’t do anything for me, but I’ve got to give Thin Lizzy credit for being the most enjoyable time I’ve had with hard rock so far.
couldnf really get through it, lytton seems a cool guy though
no las puntuó una por una porque son todas bastante similares. es rock, género que no me atrae demasiado, hay algunos buenos temas igual por ejemplo: Rosalie, Still in love with you y suicide. no es malo peor no es mi estilo tampoco
This is my fifth live album in this project, and only my 60th in total. Of course, no one should listen to that many live albums. I knew Thin Lizzy's biggest hits, and based on that, 80 minutes with the band didn't sound appealing but this was somewhat better than I thought. A few good songs and a good vibe. I'm still unlikely to listen to this ever again.
Thin Lizzy's best tunes are amazing, but there are a few bores, and some of the banter is a bit off. I feel that the 75% in the studio accusation feels about right. Some great performances, but it's too clean a live recording of that time.
Most songs not available on Spotify... withholding jugement (but man this hair metal hits)
Overwhelming. Sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way.
rock this is very rock so much rock, also Spotify only had the live version of the album which I thought was interesting
rock rock till you drop
solid, liked it quite a bit
Not totally my type. But the album sounds good.
Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: Dancing in the Moonlight, Gut Reaction: Fuckkk. A live, double album from a band I've never heard of...... After listening: Oh! I have heard this band before, just never heard _of_ them before. This is one of those put-a-song-to-a-band scenarios. The Boy Are Back in Town is just out there in the world. You've heard it before, probably dozens of times, but if you're like me, you have literally no idea who Thin Lizzy is, despite that fact. So anyways, no where near as bad as I was expecting. The 1h17m flew by.... well not flew, but it wasn't a complete drag either. I enjoyed the crowd work. I enjoyed the saxophone. The Irish accent brings some flavor to the music. I really quite liked Dancing In the Moonlight. Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed was also memorable. And then of course I have nothing bad to say about The Boys Are Back in Town. Misc Thoughts: Terrible album cover. Feels a little boomer-ish, but then again, I try not to play the boomer card too much. Having no frame of reference besides the studio version of The Boys... I didn't have any strong objections to the fact that this was a live album. Solid 3.
And another one rock
Surprisingly not terrible. 70s live album sound. Not really my thing, but okay.
While the energy is there, I found myself wishing for the cleaner, tighter feel of studio versions. It also runs a bit long for my taste, which made it harder to stay engaged all the way through. Not bad, but I’d rather listen to their studio work.
This is the first thing I ever heard from Thin Lizzy, which is probably a bad start but whatever. It's kind of what I expected - boomer rock, but it's actually done quite well, the live instrumentation sounds good, the energy is there and the vocals are solid. It's an enjoyable live album but I know I will probably never listen again.
Great band … sound even better live … but live albums are still cheating 😔
This was fine.
I’ll be honest I didn’t listen to all 8 discs of the edition that’s on Apple Music. This seemed like well put together rock music, it’s not really my speed but I can see why people like this.
Killer energy! I'm not too familiar with Thin Lizzy other than that one big hit, so this was an interesting experience. Really great production, especially for a live album. I think I would rank this higher if I listened to it again a few more times, but for now it's a strong 3/5
Enjoyed it. Not feeling it being pieced together from multiple gigs though
Great energy and up beat
Note my favorite live album but decent.
Solid rock n roll, great guitar work.
I remember this album coming out and been very popular. On my regular visits to the record store I always hovered over it but always found something else to buy. This sums up my attitude to Thin Lizzy. Quite like them and some good rock songs but never set my musical world alight. As regards this album it is in reality a greatest hits set in a live performance. What I discovered today and never realised before is that the mix puts Phil Lynott’s bass playing way forward of everything else. Scott Gorham’s guitar sounds flimsy and weak drowned out by the strong bass. Well it was Phil’s group so I guess Tony Visconti was duty bound to do this but to my ears it is to the detriment of the album. 3/5 26/3/26
Jomen visst, men blev lite tradigt i längden.
Very good.
Great sounding live record. Some great tunes in there but it all got a bit same same for me. Still, they must've been great as a live band
Good. They’ve got a certain recognizable upbeat rock, entitled-white male sound that os captured well by “the Boyz are back in town”. Couldn’t find this whole album anywhere, but i heard enough to know it’s a 3. Then spotify took me to a song of there’s about partner physical abuse, which was revolting. Not a wonder that Thin Lizzie didn’t make the bigs.
It’s good but not really super into it personally
Quite good.
Too long for the day I had, pretty good but
the boys y still in love with you son cabronas, el resto ahi noma
hum
probs get half their points from me for being irish
I still don't want to listen to live albums. This one felt like it was the same throughout the whole thing.
Comes out of the gate strongly but then falters a bit. I’m not the greatest fan of ‘live’ albums’ anyway, because isn’t the point to actually be there and a recording doesn’t transport me in the same way. Surprised at how tight they are as a band tbh and there are some bangers to be sure
Good live album. Prefer the album versions
Good stuff, but not going to change any lives at this point.
Classic rock, first couple weren't really my speed, but it gets better as it goes on.
3 stars
I'm about as neutral as you can get for this one. It's fine.
Enjoyable to listen to, really only knew “boys are back in town”. Very energetic and cool, cute music.
Really classic rock and roll tunes with an all timer in the boys are back in town. Had a lot of fun with this one even if it doesn’t really make you think too much.
Not for me. Interesting how much of this is dubbed in the studio. It makes the quality better but still has the live album vibe j don’t like. Can’t be mad at Boys are Back in Town tho.
My favourite of the live albums by far, even if only because this one felt so much more full of life and urgent. I can’t say that I loved any of the songs but it exceeded my expectations I’m sorry that it provoked anti-Irish hate I liked that this one actually sounded like a live show that it might have been fun to attend
First time I hear about this band, and this is good
I don't know if I would consider Thin Lizzy a must hear band in your lifetime, there are quite a number of 70s rock bands that sound similar. That being said this was a good album and if you're going to pick any Thin Lizzy album to include, this would be the one.
"Jailbreak", "The Boys Are Back in Town", "Rosalie" — всё это звучит так, будто тебя схватили за шкирку и не отпускают сорок минут.
Not my thing.
3.3 Start off with the classic line of I don't think live albums should be on here except in extreme circumstances. This doesn't feel extreme. Doesn't help that the fidelity is not the best. Music itself, I enjoyed the more metally bits. Emerald, Massacre etc. Never bothered with these guys before but that guitarist can really shred. This is offset by too many pretty naff slow ballad-esque ones. Overall it's good, but don't think I'll be revisiting.
It's live, not sure about dangerous though. I think it works pretty well as a live album, but it didn't blow me away. Pretty good.
3+
