Not terrible, liked acoustic guitar
Listened Before? N I don't know what to say about this one other than it's just sort of there... I've seen other reviewers calling it "hipster" but that wasn't a thing in 1996. It's maybe a hipster influence? I dunno. Really doesn't need to be on the list but it's unoffensive. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Expectations
I wanted to love this album, really I did, but they seem to have taken ‘inoffensive’ to another level. It sounds like it was recorded in a bedroom. Softly strummed acoustic guitar so as not to disturb the neighbours. Well, neighbour, I was undisturbed.
Interesting, not really for me. 4.3/10
Pleasant bit a bit boring.
I don’t want to be too mean. Clearly they have tender feelings. I’m all for gentility in folk music but it really feels like these gents would get knocked over by a breeze.
soft vocals with fucked up lyrics & miscellaneous other Millennial staples. the cover is just arty enough to hide that it's Smell The Glove type stupid.
this was a bit lame, nice voices tho
Just the most twee.
Boring
Eh, bit of a snooze.
No standouts
Some ok ish tracks bordering on dreary then picks up here and there better came from them later an ok ish 2 !
Weird ngl
Emotionless music. There was maybe one song in there that was cool and it was because the singer wasn’t singing. Maybe if this was the only album on earth I’d listen again.
Well, it seemed fine as a somewhat generic coffee house album, but it's nothing I would go out of my way to listen to again. Just not for me.
Some of it isn't bad but at best it should be background music. Or like the soundtrack to an indie movie.
Overall it doesn’t do much for me. The vocals are too soft and whispery. It feels like these guys walked so that the mumble genre could run. Some of the instrumentation is occasionally interesting but I’m not convinced that it’s good.
4/10
Dull, non-dimensional, mellow indie. Not horrible
Vampire Weekend owns a little bit to this album, the resemblance to their sound is uncanny at times, ok album that I would've never found without 1001
Música media meh pero no me disgustó del todo
Bueno me sonaban todos las canciones un poco igual, aunque me ha recordado a un viaje de verano
couldn't properly listen till the end, cause honestly i got a little bored and i understood the points being made. sweet and lovely lyrics, but overall not my cup of tea :(
3/10 Wasn't for me
Not really a fan of the whole Chamber Pop movement - I find it boring, and this album is no exception. Reminiscent of Kevin Ayers (who I also found boring).
At a first listen, I'm not that impressed. I can enjoy some indie pop music and love some good chamber pop, but this here feels a bit too meandering and doesn't invoke anything.
Not for me.
Inoffensive(except for a fairly irritating voice) and just a bit bland really. Certainly didn’t get me excited.
idk I just don't get it. Was pretty bored by the whole thing?
I remember when B&S kind of broke out, and this was lauded as like a secret debut, and it was really hard to get a copy of it. Years later, I did buy it, and I wasn't wholly unimpressed.
and it's a pop that makes me feel good that I don't appreciate often but here I'm more than satisfied
Not really my taste but I can understand the acclaim. Just kind of bores me.
Some B&S songs, I like. Some bit so much. I prefer Dear Catastrophe Waitress. Can be a little samey to the point of tedium.
Nothing offensive but I just hear a tinny grating annoying sound, and I'd rather silence.
muy chill para mi gusto, medio aburrido lwk
This collection ocasionally rises above itself, but it could use som punk influence - strip this over-orchestrated junk down a bit.
2 out of 5. A bit bland but pleasant.
Nunca he terminado de pillarlo, creo que solo tienen una cancion que me guste, parece un grupo de chicos performativos.
Musically, this was pleasant. However, I couldn't stand the guy's voice and singing style. I can see why hipsters would flock to this stuff, but to someone with good taste in music....not so much.
Belle and Sebastian are one of those bands I often enjoy but never really love. Their 1996 debut is a prime example; there’s nothing here that offends me, but equally, there’s nothing the really excites. There’s no doubting their sophistication and lush approach to the indie aesthetic, but it does tend to wash over me, leaving very little in the way of a definite impression of what they’re about. File under pleasant. 5/10
Not my jams
There's been some Belle & Sebastian I've liked over the years, and some here that I definitely enjoyed. I liked the urgency of Expectations, that one is definitely a pretty good song. But unfortunately, most of the back half of the album was pretty slow and forgettable.
This is my first time listening to this Belle and Sebastian album. My only prior experience with the group was listening to "If You're Feeling Sinister." And I only listened to that because of this site. As with "If You're Feeling Sinister," this just isn't doing anything for me. The music is kind of boring, and the singer also sounds bored of the music.
Flutes! Best song: I don't love anyone
Why is this album on this list? It doesn't stand out in any way besides being painfully mediocre! How does this get on the list but not incredibly influential bands like Sublime or half of SOAD's discography (I'm aware they have Self-titled but it's like their second worst album so it really shouldn't imo)!!
WTF is that cover. Very much fine musically. 2.4.
Well that's 42 minutes I will never get back. The very definition of unremarkable.
It was ok. Nothing really that interesting. Standout song: Shes losing it
Inoffensive and boring. That's all I can offer about this.
Favourite Track: She’s losing it Not my thing on my first listen but I may try and give it another go.
Boring and mediocre. I don’t get the love for this. 2
Don’t like the sound or the lyrics. Not my jam
This isn't for me. It's too poppy, too simple. Some folks seem to like their lyrics, but I can't be arsed to look them up or listen enough to get them all. It's just not fun or interesting music. I think they were popular at the time because a lot fo bands that sound just like this were popular at the time. Calling it a 2 and leaving it behind.
5/10 Pleasant background music but should not be on the list.
This album had some ok moments ... more like 2.5 stars for me ... but not enough interest to push it to 3!
2/5 fav song: electronic renaissance it was okay, had good elements but not the best thing i’ve ever listened to
Favourite Songs: She's Losing It My Wandering Days Are Over
Langweilig 🥱
Meh
Liked Songs: - Expectations - We Rule the School Intriguing vibe and style, but just kind of boring and too similar
Very forgettable. 2.5/5
Open your mouth and sing. Stop trying to sound cool
Оно, конечно, и не раздражает, но и не вызывает абсолютно никаких эмоций.
I actually really like the vibe of this band, and actually found Expectations good. But otherwise, I found the rest of the tracks rather lacking. I liked another track but from a completely different album. I don't know, this was fine but I couldn't be bothered with the songs.
A little too twee for me.
You took a sausage out of the freezer and have time to kill while it thaws so you throw on this album while you have a shower. You work on perfectly aligning your head under the stream so it flows over both ears cutting out all other sounds, but you remember you're supposed to be listening to this album so later that evening you start it again from the beginning to hear what you missed. You missed nothing.
Not offensive, but just kind of a waste of time. Like each new song kicks in, and the instrumentation and production sounds decent enough, but the lyrics and vocals leave much, MUCH, to be desired. Never changes style, never actually "sings", and doesn't have the grit, insight, humour, or distinction to be interesting.
Snooze
Boring
The state im in is a great opening song and a career highlight. However the rest although passable fare errs very strongly on the wrong side of twee. An acquired taste.
Meh
2.0 - Weak
It sounds like the part of IKEA where your parents HAVE to browse the furniture. 2/5
Thought it was good. Didn’t really get into it too much. Will need to revisit, just wasn’t in the mood for this album when listening
this album was officially funded by the scottish government. Look it up
Glad to have hear this album.
I feel like this was slightly more upbeat than their other album on the list. Still a little too slow for me, but it is well made music. Just not something I would go back to. 2.5/5 Probably won't listen again
This is more varied than I would have anticipated from the first song. I like the songs with horns and appreciate the melodies.
Didn't have much of an impact on me either way. Album cover is awkward though
moauiiifff
was a good background album but found it boring
Sounds childish.
Sebastopol loves this
It was fine... Little bit boring but not offensive. Album cover is the best bit
Day638 - for such a boring album it sure make me angry for it to be on this last
I was listening to album in high school once and the cool kids found out. They gave me an atomic wedgie, broke my Walkman and force fed me the magnetic strip from this cassette as punishment. I turned my trauma from this experience into expressive art and now I am in my 8th year of art school. I couldn't be happier!
Ughhhhh I mean on the one hand, "they say you never go with boys and you are tight" was a lyric in a fanfic I read when I was like 12 and then I looked it up and found out it was by Belle & Sebastian and this was the kickoff of a core chunk of my pre-teen/teen personality, but on the other - this album overall is really slow for me as a whole and I don't enjoy it in one sitting. 2.5
not for me.
I outgrew this vibe and can't get myself to go back :/
2.5
2.5
4/10
sicky sweet music for people who i love but would never give an aux cord to listen to while looking out of train windows
I like 'Tigermilk' as much as I liked 'If You’re Feeling Sinister' — which is exactly the problem.
Moody movie music from the 90s. Not my cup of tea, but it had some ok moments.
Not my thing, feels a little uninspired to me.
This feels harsh as i do like Belle and Sebastian, and they’re nice songs but idk maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for twee pop. I wasn’t in a Pixar film this afternoon 2.3/5.0 Best Song: She’s Losing It
not bad
weird lyrics
I was optimistic early on, but it just never got there
This is my first listen to this work. I hear this album has been compared with works by Nick Drake, but I'm not hearing that in most tracks, I Could Be Dreaming is the exception. This feels way more upbeat than his works and feels way more electronic (typed this while listening to Electronic Renaissance, later songs perhaps less so). I'm enjoying it, but not sure it is a triumph of music. The background monologues got really annoying and didn't add much to the songs. Were they going for a Pink Floyd-esque feeling? If so, they missed the mark and just had me pausing to make sure no one was talking to me from another room. Overall, I found it pretty but forgettable.
I’m not usually one to judge an album by its cover but in this case, come on, what were they thinking? I don’t care how arty and black & white it is, it’s still a topless woman pretending to breast feed a stuffed toy tiger. Once you get past this, the music is largely inoffensive folky, pop with one weirdly out of place electro dance number.
Basically Coldplay before Coldplay. This is not a compliment. But there are two songs on here that are pretty good so I’ll bump it up a star for that (You’re Just a Baby and Electric Renaissance).
*1996. Alt rock. *Boring, quiet. *Listened as background music while I was reading. That worked. RATING - 5/10
I’m not sure what to really say but this album is really boring. I just kind of want to fall asleep while listening to this album. Favorite Tracks: The State I’m In Rating: 2.5/5
I know the band name, but can't say I've ever given them any time. There were on a bunch of late 90's compilation cd's I had but no songs ever stuck with me. Decent # of listens to "the State I Am In", She's Losing It" and what I assume is their lone hit from this album, "Expectations" (I'd never heard it, but got old Kinks vibes from it). His voice leaves a lot to be desired, flat and sleepy. He sounds like a guy at Open Mike Night. It sounded like 90's folk to me with a Kinks influence, linda cheery and light but short on jams or hooks. Not really my sound and now I know why I breezed over them back in the day. It was 10 songs that all sounded very similar.
Nice enough but none of songs were very memorable and I didn’t really connect with his vocals
I appreciated tbe storytelling in the lyrics, but the music felt like it all blended into one. I enjoyed I Could. E Dreaming as one of the few songs which felt like it went somewhere… but overall, not an album I think I’ll revisit.
The Good: Milk, it does a body good! The Bad: Turns out tigermilk is some kind of instrument… The Ugly: the album cover… This is my second B&S album I’ve seen on the list, and I do hope this is the last. I’ve done the math, and with 1001 albums to go through since the 1950s, it means roughly 140 albums per decade… which is 14 per year… That’s a lot of albums if you think about it. So, what did I think about Tigermilk? Not much, to tell the truth. It was okay. It didn’t ruin my day, like some other albums tend to do. But I was more interested in figuring out what a tigermilk instrument looks like, and then I couldn’t stop looking at the boobies of B&S founder, which led me into a whole retrospective about me getting older and becoming a dirty old man… The few B&S fans that I know are all wimps… and that is the best way I can describe this music: whimpy. At least goths are scary… 2*
Boring
Always struck me as somewhat effete and insubstantial and re-listening today hasn't convinced me otherwise. Mostly just bland and annoying.
meh.
Tigermilk - Belle and Sebastian The opening track was good not great but interesting enough to get my full attention so was the second track and all the rest of the tracks because they basically sounded like the same song over and over again. I got another album by this band that I liked better on here a few months- sorry I can't recall the title. The vocals are a bit annoying and difficult to tell if it's a guy or girl singing. I don't know I can't imagine ever listening to this album ever again, but it wasn't horrible, so I guess two stars. I wish I had gotten a Dinosaur Jr. album.
Would be good for someone 'moving to the city' montage in a film but that's about it.
1.75
Never heard this album, guessing by the number of times these songs have been played, not many other have heard of Belle & Sebastian. Just average songs here. Nothing to really get excited about... Not bad, but nothing stands out here.
Litt spacea og masete altså
Not bad just not really my type of music
Meh
It was ok, I don't really enjoy this group but it's not that bad. Just not for me.
Floyd’s blonde so his 4/5 doesn’t count
Has some good moments, but overall unremarkable
The songwriting on "Tigermilk" really missed the mark for me. The lyrics often feel forced and awkward, like they were cobbled together in a rush. And the vocals? They sound like they were recorded in someone’s bedroom, with the singer trying not to wake anyone up. FFS, a bit more confidence and dedication would have gone a long way! It’s a shame because there’s potential here, but it just didn’t deliver.
A very interesting vocal delivery that I can only compare to Sufjan Stevens, I have no other reference for this group. Nothing was really grabbing my attention until “Electronic Renaissance”. Thats an amazing song and I wish there was more on this album that sounded like it. I also enjoyed the vocal melody of “We Rule The School”. Outside of that, there wasn’t much for me here. Didn’t hate it, just wasn’t for me
Two stars instead of one because this astonishingly anticipates so much twee precious white feely feels music of the aughts. Two stars and no more because I loathe this shit, from the cover art on down. To be fair there are some actually good tunes, and the story of its genesis is impressive, but I loathe this kind of aren’t I being special and so strangely narcissistic but beautiful? Eww.
Nice!
Quite boring album
Não gosto nao...
Sonically a fun listen. Songwriting and vocals are meh. Shitty neutral milk hotel.
Marginally better vocally than their follow up, but still mind-numbingly slow and bring for me.
Crazy that this is a 1996 album because it sounds like it was made during the 60s. Favorite Track: She’s Losing It
Twee bollocks, insufferable voice. Some of the actual music was alright though
Background music, at best.
Good for background listening, and probably nothing more.
This is the first time consciously listening to Belle & Sebastian, but I've been aware of them as indie darlings for some time. Since that kind of indie that I associated them with wasn't really my thing, I never had any reason to seek it out. What I heard was more or less what I was expecting, and I can confirm that this isn't really for me. At first his voice reminded me a little but of Colin Blunstone of The Zombies, but as the songs went on I realized I didn't like it nearly as much as I like Colin's voice. Very possibly because the songs and the music behind the voice didn't really grab me, but more realistically I just don't think I like his voice. It's not annoying, just...wimpy. Sure, it suits the music well, but again more realization why this isn't really my thing. It is definitely impressive realizing how young he was when this was recorded, and I'm pretty sure I thought they were too "new" of a band to have released an album in the 90's. At the end of the day, there just really isn't much here that makes me want to revisit. I suppose I'm a bit more interested in how the band evolved after this debut, but who knows if and when I'll ever check out their other output. Not a bad album, just not for me, so we're gonna have to go with 2 stars here.
This one did not stand out for me.
This is the UK food equivalent for music, bland
Forgettable
I know of Belle and Sebastian but haven’t listened to any of their albums. I would say Tigermilk was pretty much what I expected. Soft, jangly, indie pop music. Which is fine. It’s just not something that grabs my attention or is very memorable. None of the songs stand out to me. Just forgettable type music. Tigermilk will get a 2 rating. 2/5
Not my taste
I’m not a fan of the lazy enunciation and low-energy vocals. Makes it sound like the singer is bored and uninterested. The band arrangements are pretty decent. Some of them are even catchy. They are trying a lot of different sounds.
Better than the other Belle & Sebastian album I’ve heard, but still a little too cutesy emo for my taste.
Lovely and sweet, without being cutesy. Artistically it's so unique, but also not really that interesting for me.
I didn't really much care for this at all. I thought I would, but I didn't.
The sharp ‘S’s took me out immediately. The songs all kind of blur together…
Was not liking this at all. Maybe it’s because I had a terrible day on top of it but this just contributed. Of all the Scottish albums I’m pretty sure I could have died without listening to this Ken and been alright with that. Fav song - the state I am in Least fav- electric renaissance Specific rating 2.4
Cute and quirky sound, but not really my taste. Very fresh sound regardless, would not be surprised if this album released today. Very good indie chamber pop album, if you're into that sort of thing. Top tracks: We Rule the School, I Don't Love Anyone
The music is pretty boring. Basically hipster BS. This singer is as unimpressive as Nick Drake with his weak wail. Not sure why this is on this list at all. Does not belong on the top 100,000 albums of all time. The last thing the world needs is more Nick Drake wannabes. News flash, Nick Drake didn't actually write great music. Having said that, it is probably a Pitchfork darling. ::rolls eyes hard:: Instead of this weak nonsense, give me Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass anyday. I'll give 2 stars just for the production and engineering.
Strange to get Belle and Sabastian 2 days in a row. But that makes this one look inferior compared to Feeling Sinister. Definitely an influential album but feels too slight and DIY.
Not my thing but some interesting and delicate melodies Voice gets a bit grating at times
I will never be a fan of Belle & Sebastian, but I found this much better than "If you're feeling sinister". At least a couple of songs which were not very boring.
What the fuck is that album cover. Why the fuck am I listening to music about child brides. This album is like if Neil Young's son tried to follow in the footsteps of his father because Stuart Murdoch's voice is just so squeaky and grating. I'm giving this a 2 instead of a 1 because if you take out the vocals entirely it's actually a decent album. I found myself bopping along to the instrumentals and enjoyed it until old mate Murdoch started singing again.
Too soft and clean for me.
Found this a bit of a struggle to get through as it kept blending into background music. It’s all nice with some great lyrics but didn’t grab me
Not very interesting, even if they are Scottish.
i was looking out for something special, but i didn't find it. a pretty okay album.
too slow, making me tired
Meh? Feels very generic.
2.5.
In a time period where popular music was changing, the authors feel that uninspiring UK pop that sounds as bland as other albums of an earlier time period should be on this list. The only thing that Tigermilk by Belle and Sebastian does that is listworthy is force you to remember that Nirvana, Pearl Jam, grunge, alternative and shredding music is happening at the same time across the pond. 2.5/5
I really like the music although there is no remarkable track. Easy on the ears. But I don´t like the vocals. 2,5
Not bad.
Very slow, didn't engage with me. Pleasant sounding though.
Meh, was ok. Maybe it would grow on me with a few more listens
I forgot to write down notes and now I struggle with remembering anything about this album. I think this is also appropriate review of the whole expierience.
Eh
While I respect the stories and characters interwoven in the lyrics which are easy to get lost in, I can never get over the Belle & Sebastian sound. Non offensively trickling along with whimsy and tweeness that in an absent moment rips you from the words and into a gentle irritation. If this record goes on in the background it's game over.
My god this was boring. I guess I didn't hate it?
Boring
A very bland and forgettable album. Not bad just nothing i will remember.
Just bland - some interesting Melody but that’s just about it
Gave this a couple of listens. Never been a fan of this twee indie pop. Lyrically interesting but nothing musically that makes we want to listen again.
cat's piss more like
As I listen to this, I get the feeling that it was recorded on school nights in the basement of a house filled with kids and a wife who shushes this guy for playing to loud. Everything is so subdued and soft. "Don't be too loud tonight." She scolds, "I just put the kids to bed." It's like the whole thing was recorded under a blanket washed with that laundry detergent they make for infants. Like his doctor told him that if he got to upset or energized, that his heart would explode. Like he was trying to prove to his grandmother that all rock music didn't have to be abrasive.
Only thing that got me excited about this album was the titties in the artwork
Pretty basic indie rock. I didn't like how the vocals were mixed so much louder than the guitars and stuff since the vocals were the worst part. Ian is going to love this one.
I didn't hate it but its a one and done for me.
Kinda indistinguishable from all indie folk pop 1994-2004. Enjoyed the 2nd half a little more than the first Artist #771 on last.fm - never heard this album before
Boring
Never much been into Belle and Sebastian. I enjoyed some songs but it's very twee and very posh. It's got a nice defined sound, and some of the songwriting is clever. Listening: On the first sunny Autumn day Favourite Track: Expectation
Proto-emo goth giants showing off a style that I just can't get into.
I don't know, the cultural rift between this album and my taste is rather broad. :D
Man, I’ve never been in on B&S. I’m usually a pretty twee guy but there is something about their sound that turns me off immediately. Can’t place my finger on it though. Maybe one day I will like them
Måste finnas 1 miljon såna här band i världen. Electronic Renaissance står dock ut som asjobbig låt.
Electronic renaissance bannnngsssss
inoffensive folky stuff, won't be revisting
Another band and album that I have never heard of, but thats why we are here. I enjoyed this album enough to give it another listen
Second Belle & Sebastian album, second time I'm wondering what they're doing on this list. They don't make bad music by any means, but so much of their sound fades into the background and doesn't leave any imprint in your memory. For what it's worth, their debut album Tigermilk has a seventies vibe to it, and they do nail that indie sound perfectly.
Just not clicking. 2.5
Remarkably dull and flaccid
Not really my kind of music. Lyrics were def of the time. Not my favorite.
Kind of bland and boring
I'll have to give this one a fair relisten when I am not so tired, but my initial reaction is "meh". I like some of the initial songs (Expectations and She's Losing It) but by the middle I was feeling ready for the album to be over. The back half of the album just kinda blurred for me. Feels like there isn't enough substance for me musically for a lot of it. Will be curious to see if being more awake helps or hurts this one but my gut is telling me it won't make much difference. We will see! I don't know if it's essential listening, but it was not horrible.
IF you told me this was the soundtrack to 500 Days of Summer I would believe you.
Not my vibe. Couldn’t get into it. Not bad just not my vibe.
If anything this album makes you sad with song after song of melancholy monotony.
100% pure uncut music for people who read books at the bar
Very original overall. Not a bad listen. Not sure of the quality of the vocals but seems to go with the general sound. It was OK.
I wanted to give it one star since it felt like a whole lot of the same, but some tracks gave a little more. Soft 2.
This is the second Belle & Sebastian album I've had, and both left me with the same kind of notes. Something with the lyrics just doesn't work for me. Last time I said they were boring and mundane, and that's about what I hear here too. I typically like singer songwriter/ indie stuff but idk, just not something I care for. Favorite track: idk maybe "I don't love anyone" 1.5/5
Boring as all hell, I dunno what people see in this band.
not my thing
Lasten ruokaa on maito miehille saatava tiivisteenä eli casein hera.. Ei missään nimessä voi juoda maitoa.. Muutama hauska kappale täällä APUA.. maitolasi ppis käsistä... Älä hörpsi helppoja... Vettä ja heraa sekaisin.. saadaan uniikki yhdistelmä nestettä ja proteiinia lasissa..
gets an automatic 1 just for cover art but not much more.
Felt slightly emotionless in my opinion, though I can see how someone could enjoy this. Just not me
Nick Drake tribute band.
Nothing special
I pee on twee
The music's ok, but his voice is exhaustingly boring.
Nice. But boring. Suitable for background music.
This band is just not my thing. Nothing against them. I was lucky to make it about 2/3 through this album before it became too distractingly irritating and interfered with work.
Another mild pop-rock album. There's nothing particularly bad about it but it didn't resonate with me at all - I'd rather not listen to it again. I didn't like the vocals at all - at first I thought the singer had a slight lisp, or it was a creative decision to not enunciate, but by the end I realised it was just too monotonous.
Varsinkin alkupuoliskolla yllättävä määrä MELKEIN hyviä biisejä. Samaistuttavammalla esteettisellä ilmeellä voisi antaa enemmänkin anteeksi.
90s alternative music with acoustic and electric guitar and not all that interesting vocals.
A duo whose life ambition was elevator music
Putting a naked lady on the album cover is such a cheap, yet effective, strategy. Other than the tits, this album doesnt have a lot going for it though. 2/5
Pretty dull
Depressing
Eh.
Didn’t engage me
synes det er lidt kedeligt :( rigtig hyggeligt et par numre men for monotont i længden
Lots of hitting skip through this akbum
Nothing really stuck out. If You're Feeling Sinister is way better
Not a fan. The tunes are just too soft.
I’m going to let my inner 12-year-old out just long enough to say that my favorite aspect of this album is the bewbs on the cover. Other than that, *snore*.
This one didn't spark emotions one way or another for me. Very slow and quiet, sometimes I would just tune out the music and forget I was even listening to anything.
Eh, this was a nice quite album that didn't really stand out to me at all. Call me when we get the Badgermilk album.
Not for me.
It was ok, nothing special
familiar soft bass, weary vocal, occasionally shifting pitch and sounding like he's forgotten to take a breath. inoffensive and incredibly samey
Boring and I hate the way the singer has to manipulate his voice to get the high notes. It really started to frustrate me at the end to the point where I was wishing it was over. Is it worse than duckstab or einsturzende neubauten, not really, but it wasn't more interesting.
#34. I'll have to remember this band the next time I'm on a Tinder date with an LA girl with a wide brimmed hat and finger tattoos, because surely they all love this. 2/5: meh
Blah whatevs
Tepid be the sounds that drape my ears, the alacrity of silence is a godsend over the voice of mediocrity.
The most hipster album I've heard so far. Not necessarily a good thing.
I try and give all the albums I get at least one full listen through. I could not do that with this one. It was to whiny and thin. One additional star was given for decent lyrics, but they were in terrible arrangements.
supaboring, I hate 'em.
average 😭
perus 90luku sluibailua. kiinnosta PÄTKÄÄKÄÄN tämmöinen rockkia vai poppia vai indiettä vai rautaa vai roskaa.... Beautiful, eclectic indie pop album . eklektinen piti kyllä googlata. Eklektismi on suuntaus, esimerkiksi taidesuuntaus, joka yhdistelee eri suuntauksia. Eklektikko on henkilö, joka yhdistelee eri suuntauksia. olen nyt audiofiili eklektikko fanatic... my wandering days are over

Blended into the background for me, I wouldn't call it bad but too light for me
It sounds 10 years newer than it is. Doesn't mean I like it. It's not terrible, but I hate the singing. I haven't heard their other records. Judging by the reviews, they have a more essential one. So I'd take this off the list. Favorite song: Expectations
This really doesn't belong on the list. I hope it gets booted in later versions. It's a slog.
Relatively charming—for something I’ll never listen to again.
indie, nothing really catching my ear, but not offensive
There are some interesting moments but the poor overall performances don’t help with the already pretty average songwriting
Album 106 of 1001 Belle and Sebastian - Tigermilk Rating : 2.5 / 5 Favorite Track : Expectations Scottish pop. While there was nothing extremely terrible or offensive to the ear, nor was there anything quite memorable. I will listen again when I get to it in the playlist, but probably not otherwise.
Good at times but it's all slightly too wanky for me.
leuk maar not special
Meh
Thank God that's over. I detest Belle and Sebastian's particular brand of vomit-inducing soft rock stylings. Giving this 2 stars only because (a) it was slightly better than other B&S music I've been forced to listen to, and (b) the album cover is pretty alright.
Pretty but nothing engaging. Inoffensive. Acceptable at a cocktail party. Not really for this kind of list.
I hate this band.
The trumpet saves the songs here. There's some half decent melodies and structures. But they need a bit of brass to flush them out. The production is a little too DIY and tinny for my liking. I've always felt B&S to be something of a closed scene. You need to be really into the little grouping to get the music, unlike other outsiders of the time such as Pulp. I didn't fancy hanging out with bed wetters.
Not my favourite. Fairly pretentious.
not for me
I didn’t hate it, as it kind of grew on me as it went Glad I listened to it once
Favorite part by far is the first 75 seconds of Electronic Renaissance, before the 80s drums come in. What I think of as "mood music." Not something I'd play regularly but there's a mental space for this type of album.
there are songs of theirs that I like but they aren't here very similar to sufjan minus the emphasis on the concept album 2.5
A little dull
Not my style. There were a couple beats I enjoyed in a couple songs, but overall I just didn't enjoy this one.
2.5. Seems ok.
remarkably inoffensive
Meh
что-то как-то мимо немного....
Half was good. Didn't like the first two songs. Nothing that I would go back to
I don't know. I feel like I should like Belle and Sebastian. It's objectively my style. It's just so pretentious. And I don't hate pretentious - I love Morrisey. Something about this just feels like they wouldn't want me as a fan. So, I'm not.
A filler
short hair gang booba it was alright
bored me
Aggressively beige, with lyrics that aren't as clever as the guy singing them things they are. Not offensive but wouldn't go back, it's a debut though so maybe I'll prefer later stuff
Jack tried to convince me this was akin to Simon and Garfunkel. I'm afraid I found it quiet and forgettable. I have heard that their other albums are good, if I have a respite from this task I might take a look through their back catalogue.
As soon as this album started I knew I wasn't going to like it, I found it to be very boring. On one of the public reviews on this site someone wrote, "So inoffensive it makes me want to go commit crimes just to make up for how fucking boring it is.". That is a bit harsh but not far off how I'm feeling.
Just not for me I'm afraid
A bit boring
Pleasant to listen to but probably won't listen again
Twenty-seven year old me thought he was the shit pulling out a Belle and Sebastian CD in the middle of Nebraska, thinking it would impress the locals. It wasn't this particular Belle and Sebastian CD, but it bored the affable Nebraskans to tears. I'd thumb my nose at them, believing I was above it all and ahead of the game in terms of finding the next big musical act. Twenty-seven year old me was an idiot. This shit is fine but maybe not fine enough to crack any all time list. Especially not this Belle and Sebastian album.
I think maybe Belle and Sebastian are destined to be one of those indie bands that never quite do it for me (someone who likes a lot of indie bands). I sort of get it - thoughtful, sympathetic lyrics and ‘nice’ inoffensive music. It reminded me a bit of that Lloyd Cole album that came up recently, and, like that album, sometimes it works. But other times it’s too twee for my tastes. Expectations was the definite highlight. 2.5
I'm so very lost on how to rate this... I can appreciate the nice sounds and relaxing vocals and I'm sure if I dug a bit deeper there must be artistry to be discovered in this album, I really do believe the people who write that. I just haven't found it myself and I've just found this album quite flat. It's a debut album and there's not enough punch or interest to grab me. Very nice to listen to though while painting. Apart from the track You're a Baby which I either missed the point completely and just didn't get the joke or it's just quite rude.
I don't know. On paper, Belle & Sebastian should be my jam. But the whole thing is just way too... sweet? In lack of a better word. It's nice with some sweetness as a palet cleanser after Throbbing Gristle, but a whole menu of this? It becomes way too much.
I don’t particularly care for Murdoch’s vocal or songwriting. I also think the instrumentation is rather bland - especially considering the fact that Belle & Sebastian have strings and horns. There are a couple of fine tunes on Tigermilk. But other than there’s nothing truly memorable on this record.
It’s interesting but nothing I’d listen to.
Just can't get into B&S
Inoffensive but boring
Can’t really remember any of it.
I don't have much to say but I did enjoy most of the songs. Very indie movie soundtrack.
I mean just awful man. Not my type… insufferably boring sound
Thought this was a pretty meddling indie album. Came out in the 90s and it may have had influence on modern indie as it sounded similar to more recent bands. I didn’t find any specific song catchy or super enjoyable. It felt like a cohesive album of songs that were easy to pass through. 4.5/10
Too twee for me
This one kind of annoyed me idk why
This is fairly inoffensive, but I didn’t like it either really. Won’t be returning to any of it.
nice
I just think it’s mediocre. The one electronic song was a super weird, but enjoyable, change of pace compared to the rest of the album. The guitars were generally enjoyable to listen to, but it didn’t really feel as if there was cohesion between each of the parts. They seemed to be playing in the same style, but there just felt like there was something missing between every part that played music, including the voice. This album wasn’t terrible to listen to as it sounds quite nice, but it lacks a kick or punch that propels it to a higher level. Favorite track: Electronic Renaissance
Nada especial
Just not my type of album it didn’t flow right for me
