Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Eh, Motorhead is fine. Motorhead live is also fine.

bro i'm sorry but live albums are just not my thing. this one sounds very good in comparison to their album sound, but why would I want to listen to a live album vs the actual album recording.

I can smell the BO of the crowd through my headphones. If you are into a lead singer that sounds like they smoke 3 packs a day and multiple guitars that go full speed non-stop, then this is for you

I tried, I couldn't get into it.

Never been a fan of live albums

Well at least this one doesn't have the pedophile song? Musically it's decent, albeit not my thing. I just dislike them as people too much and don't have the attachment to it musically to get over that. The lyrics are also really uninteresting to me.

Not the best sounding live album I’ve ever heard

I guess as live albums go this is a good one. But fuck live albums.

I like the song everyone else likes.

Sound quality was poor. Motörhead has better studio albums.

Good sound ...one sound. It's the same song, repeated. And why the live album, and with such poor sound quality?

ok metal but repetitive

Ehhh, I have issues with this album, blew it's load to quickly, cherry picked songs from multiple live events, goes on too long... its fine but I will never listen to again

Motorhead were always best in three-minute bursts. This is a LOT more than that.

The recording sucks, the live experience doesn't add anything to their music, and in any case, Motörhead has one song that they play over and over and they already have a studio album on the list. If somebody asks you to make them a list of albums they should listen to before they die, you list ten thousand albums and get a hand cramp from writing before you ever even think about this one. Best track: Ace of Spades, I guess

I’ve always heard good things about Motörhead but I was sad to find that most of their songs on the album sounded the same with a few changes to the lyrics.

This was very boring.

Nothing to say its motorhead. Mid metal band

I can only begin to imagine that this live album is in the list because Motörhead - as a band - are tighter than a fat gimp's leather knickers. Lemmy has a dreadful voice - it's gritty, hoarse and barely in tune. The crowd noises are distracting and irritating. Everything wrong with a live album is right there. But it's tight AF. As a live album, it does not encourage me to listen to Motörhead. An extra star simply for the talent of the band.

Repetetivt och ointressant

This is English rock band Motörhead's first live album, containing songs taken from their earlier LP's and recorded live on their 1981 British tour. The album was released at the peak of the band's popularity and many fans had been anticipating a live album. It's been rated as one of the best live albums of all time, and the album even made it to number 1 on the UK albums chart. The music is a mix of hard rock and heavy metal, laying the foundation for the band's thrash period. Normally I am not a big fan of metal, but the songs on this album were a fun listen and it being a live album may have helped with that. All rock/metal fans should lend an ear to this album if they haven't already.

their hits live 2.5

As live albums go its fine. Id just rather hear a studio album

For me it's just noise

- never got into Motörhead - not a fan of live albums - it sounds pretty good, just not for me - classic Motörhead vocal style - Fast and Loud - notable: Ace of Spades, No Class and Overkill

Some enjoyable moments but not enough.

Christ they just keep going. How many times can you play the same song?

Live gibt hier überhaupt nichts.

Was alright

Agh fuck off Motorhead and other similar bands. This to overly represented. I like Ace of Spades, cos it reminds me of being a teen but the rest of it just sounds the same

Just like their song, this is overkill. If you're a fan of metal you'll probably enjoy this album. It's dynamic, noisy, and repetitive. However, to me, it was just a 2-hour long headache.

Rollo. Me parecen todas iguales.

Instrumentals are what I would expect, but prefer singers who have some semblance of singing ability, even if it's metal.

Every song would be improved by someone shouting, "THE ACE OF SPACES, THE ACE OF SPADES" at the end of each verse.

As much as I love Ace of Spades, the rest of the album felt like hard work to get through.

Not another live album. I'm not very familiar with Motorhead so it's a crying shame to start here. I like and recognized "Ace of Spades," but apparently the album with that same title is on this list, so why do we need this? I'm certain I'll enjoy the studio version more, not just of that song but any that also appear on both projects. This and most any live album on the list is a waste of a pick, especially when the same artist is included for a studio album. Favorite tracks: Ace of Spades. Album art: A shot of a concert, wow, so groundbreaking for an album recorded at a concert. 2/5

Nothing really grabbed me. Ace of Spades is always good but didnt come away with any other hits.

Enjoying a few of the tracks but it's a bit samey!

Classic Motorhead tracks but it's not a classic album by any stretch

If you’re seeking a live Motörhead album - this is one. Would be three stars but two hours long is too long

Meh. If your music has only one intensity setting, it may as well be Muzak.

I can see the appeal of their music if I'm in the right mood, but overall not a fan. 2 stars.

Basically the same song played over. Decent song tho

Not the best live album. Great drumming. But low quality and repetitive.

It is as if the whole album were a single song, all the same, without moments, it doesn't transmit anything...

This was another complicated listen. It rated a 2 to me because it was so long and very samey.

I must be getting a little soft with all of this album listening, because I didn't dislike this as much as I feared I would. The band really does rock and the guitar work is quite sharp. The vocals are a bit "scream-y" for me, but seems to work well with the style. I wouldn't really go for it again, but better than some we've heard here.

Guitar is great, recording quality not so much. Don't put a live album on the list unless the quality is better than this.

I don’t like the guy’s voice, and the recording sounds very amateur. There is some enjoyable guitar work here, quite a bit more than I expected. But still, I never need to hear this again.

Too much metal

4/10. I feel like they're just making noise for the sake of it being loud. I couldn't distinguish much between the songs, or even pick out many of the words the singer shouted at me. That said, they do a fairly good job of making noise.

A live album is a really strange choice, and especially for Motorhead. I love the music usually, but the recording quality is so bad that I just can't really listen to this album. I'm not sure heavy rock/metal really translates well in live albums at all.

Exhausting. Most songs sound like Ace of Spades.

Speed metal... I knew this album would be a miss for me without even listening to it, but of course I took on the challenge and did it anyway. I was right. I have nothing against this band, in fact I am in awe of them because it is clear to me that they were all really talented people. Apart from the song Ace Of Spades really, the rest of the live album wasn't that enjoyable. 2/5 stars for this one.

Boring

Every Motorhead song sounds like every other Motorhead song but it was an enjoyable, thrashing listen

Seems to capture the energy of a live Motorhead gig well, although a live Motorhead gig sounds like two hours of the same song.

Most of the songs sound the same

Didn't mind it but never been a fan of motor head and this hasn't encouraged me to change that position.

Not deserving of a one but this was hard work - repetitive and dull - never got the fuss and a live album won’t change my mind

Lemmy be honest with you. This isn’t great.

Tried twice but really wasn’t for me, just seemed a bit samey.

Bicho vocês são chato hein?? Merecia 1 estrela, dando 2 só pelo Ace of Spades.

Not my favorite but I can see it’s quality

Live Motörhead is still Motörhead. Autocorrect knows that name. Cool. A little of this went a long way for me and by about the third song I was kinda done. Ace of Spaces and Iron Horse I like best.

Motorhead is good. Live albums are not.

About the same as last time, although maybe slightly better since there is some banter. I wonder if some of this is overdubbed? Pretty consistent with their album, so if no overdubs then they did a good job.

Fast! Hard!

Ace of Spades is good however the album never reaches that height again

It had Ace of Spades on in. Who doesn't love Tony Hawk Pro Skater?

first song is too loud, ace of spades lang naintindihan ko sa lyrics. the next ones, not too much, some has cool riffs too. i also kinda like that it's the live version. overall, this is a good rock album but this isn't really my genre.

mmm muy metal je

This was a drag. I’m just not a fan of heavy metal or hard rock.

love lemmy, can't stand live albums

idk.. not for me

*no music, only banging instruments and screaming vocals

Was hard to listen to while thing!

The magic of live music is virtually impossible to capture on recording. I have to say this album was no exception to this. The fact it was a double album and I had to listen to it twice really made this one a bit of a slog…I’m sure the songs are great and people had a nice time at the concert; I, however, did not have a nice time listening to it after the fact.

Opening with the undoubtable classic that is Ace of Spades, seems a brave choice. This is quickly confirmed by the next few tracks that are just plodding filler for non-Motorhead fans. Bomber and Motorhead is already knew and whilst above the rest of the post Ace of Spades tracks are hardly exciting

Why. Overkill just sounds like Ace of Spades. 1.3/5

Ugh. I can’t. The lead’s voice is so shredded and ugly, the music assaultive and not good. I turned it off during track 3. Automatic 1

Very annoying - I just had to gradually keep turning down my speaker to avoid a headache.

What a terrible day to have ears.

No thank you, don't enjoy live albums

Not my thing

Not a fan

Can’t. Just can’t.

I don't like live versions of my favorite songs let alone an almost 2 hour version of songs I've never heard before. Every song sounds the same and while I'm sure if you like this band, this was a bangin concert, it just was not for me. Was this really the best version of Motorhead they had to offer this list?

This is getting a 1. Live albums should not be on this list

no sleep till this list stops giving me stupid live albums Would I listen again: No Deserves to be on this list: It's a live album 0.5 (from just the first damn song)

Wow after already having to hear the studio version of “Jailbait”, the list includes it AGAIN on a live album, this time accompanied by a creepy shout-out to all the “15 year old apprentice [something I can’t make out]”. YIKES. WHY DOES THIS LIST HAVE TO PUT LIVE VERSIONS OF MEDIOCRE DAD ROCK ALBUMS ALREADY INCLUDED ON THE LIST. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF ALBUMS TO CHOOSE FROM AND YOU DOUBLE DIPPED. WHY WHY WHY

I cannot listen to this singing

What am I doing here? This is the 39th album I've listened to. How could I possibly tolerate over 900 more albums selected by the most pathetic group of alcoholic dads ever assembled?

Pain. Worst possible album for a stressful day. Felt like I was being assaulted and more than once had to check I didn't have Spotify set to repeat song because every single one sounded the same.

Some rock n roll is noise pollution

1) Not even remotely an important album from the 1980s. 2) Not one of the better live albums I have heard (pretty horrible actually). 3) No one who is not English or a hardcore Motorhead fan needs to ever hear this.

Why, of all the albums on God's green earth, did we pick a live, 1 and a half hour long Motorhead album?

Heavy metal - don’t love this genre and was a hard listen but they are a good band despite the genre. All the songs kinda sound the same

Have no idea why this was selected.

I will never understand the mass appeal of Motorhead. As a fan of the NWBHM I still think Motorhead is ass.

There is still not a single live album that I've heard on here that deserved to be on the list. As for this one... there's no fucking way I'm listening to the whole thing. After a selective dip.... it's all the same already after 4 tracks.

Motorhead fucking sucks and they suck harder live. Ace of Spades is by far one of the shittiest hard rock songs that gets heaps of praise for some reason. Lemmy is trash and probably buried with all his favorite nazi paraphrenalia. What a terrible time this was.

uhhhh not my vibe

So I can't get behind this. I was happy when my headphones ran out of battery. It's just noise that runs into another noise....why why why is it one of the best live albums of all time? The dude can't belt out anything above a normal talking voice range.

Not found on apple music. Just as well, I wouldn't like it.

Not my jam.

The algorithm is trying to hand me a panic attack with this album.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Those sure were some sounds. I'd like to be able to tell them apart. I'm not a Motorhead fan, so I can't say how much of that is just their sound or or the fact it's a live album.

Hard pass

Nope. I hate live albums.

My dad was a diesel mechanic growing up. He used to use this orange pumice hand cleaner to get oil and hydraulic fluid off of his hands. This album sounds like that.

I don’t know, I think this might be the first album on this list that I don’t care to finish. I made it almost all the way through and I guarantee there’s nothing in the last 5 songs that’s going to change how I feel about this. I can’t understand a word this man is saying. It’s all noise. It’s too fast. And frankly, it’s not even a great sounding live recording.

Didn’t finish listening but just not my preferred style of music

Pretty much just a wall of noise spiced with croaking off-tune vocals. Ugh - two hours of my life I won't get back...

Personally I‘m not a fan of live Albums at all and this was not able to change my opinion. Motörhead is good but recording studios exist for a reason.

yeah, i'm too anxious for this

Not my vibe but I’m sure it would be a concert. And too long

The guy screamed himself hoarse. Sounds like you are in a train that is crashing.

Surely everyone likes The Ace Of Spades? Well, No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith sees Motörhead churn out a faithful live rendition of said track along with a selection of other songs which, for the most part, follow an almost identical template less effectively, while Lemmy barks vocals which swoop between the exact same couple of melodic intervals, relative to whichever key the given song happens to be in, also less effectively. Thankfully, unlike most metal acts of the era, Motörhead don't do pretentious 10-minute epics - the bulk of the tracks here are around the three-minute mark. That still doesn't prevent listening fatigue setting in after a just a handful of similar-sounding tracks, especially when they shot their load by opening with their most well-known (and best, by a country mile) song. I mean, as live albums go, this is loud and raucous and solid, and I'm sure this was/is a big hit among fans, but I'm not sure why it is on this list - it's not like the atmosphere is enhanced by the Lemmy's extensive repertoire of stage banter: "This next song is dedicated to ____________, it's called _________" bang! Evey single time. And it's not as if you get to see the famous lighting rig while listening to the album. I made the mistake of listening to the expanded version on Spotify, which reminded me the song Jailbait exists. Good lord. Enough. (As an interesting side note, the lettering on the album cover "No sleep'til Hammersmith" was actually created in 2018 by a Mrs Muriel Benson, aged 63, from Cleethorpes, using her evaluation copy of Microsoft Word, which she had used just once before to create a poster for a coffee morning taking place at her local parish church. In an utterly revolutionary technique, her design was then sent back in time through a wormhole to 1981 for Motörhead to use on their sleeve. It was not until the artwork was actually at the printers that someone noticed Muriel DIDN'T HAVE A SINGLE FUCKING CLUE about formatting text and possessed only the most rudimentary design skills and computer literacy. And by then it was too late to change...)

Ugh enough with the live albums

This does not need to be on the list.

Spotify’s description of Motorhead as “Overwhelmingly loud and fast” is dead on and exactly why I can’t stand this.

Bad live album and i didnt like them much anyway

Unrelentingly loud and boring. Like the background music for the TV show "How It's Made," with lyrics.

Nope. Too hard for me.

With the best live albums, the sound of the crowd really adds to the atmosphere of the recording, and you can hear that the band are all having a great time on stage. Sometimes you also get some cool extended soloing or jamming which can be quite fun to listen to This album had none of those features. I don't know what Motorhead's studio recordings sound like, but on this album it was hard to distinguish the instruments from each other, resulting in something better described as noise rather than music. The lead singer's voice is also horrid, and most of the songs sound the same as each other, with unintelligible screamed lyrics. I'd rather sit in silence than listen to this again

My head hurts. I’m sure this is fabulous head-banging material, but I just find it annoying. If the lyrics happen to be compelling, I couldn’t enjoy them because of the tone. Couldn’t wait for this to end. I don’t know a thing about Hammersmith, but if you can sleep there it means Motörhead has stopped playing. It must be a lovely place.

This is currently 5 hours worth of live music on album and one of 22 live albums these dudes have released. Nahhhhh mate, I am not biting on this.

Every single song sounds the same...

Nope, I don't need a nearly 2 hour live album of heavy metal in my life today.

No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith (Live) – Motörhead – 1/5 Not really my type of music—raw, loud, and aggressive, but it doesn’t click with me. The only highlight was Ace of Spades, the one song I knew, but beyond that, it wasn’t an enjoyable listen.

annoying

Not for me

Live album. Didn't finish it.

Sounds like a bootleg recording. I had a laugh skipping through tracks, hearing him anounce different titles to identical songs.

Nope. This did nothing for me. Not at all.

Well, they know how to be loud.

Didn't like it

Terrible. First time I haven't been able to make it through the whole album. How can I give 0 stars?

They started out with their strongest song and then it went downhill from there. This whole album sounded like 1-2 songs performed slightly differently. Not my thing.

No, just no. As others commented: 1 good song. The first one. Then it's repetitive and boring. Couldn't listen to the end.

Love Ace of Spades, but I can’t 🫠

I hope I never hear another note from Motörhead.

Live albums maybe just are not my thing. Good band and obviously great to see live but this record just makes me wish I saw them.

I’ve had some of these songs on a previous Motörhead album that came up. Then I thought only Ace of Soades was decent. Mail Bait remains gross and no one needs an almost two hour live Motörhead album. 1

Not Motorhead!

Couldnt get through all of this, but then again you didn’t really need to. Saw Motorhead live when I was about 18, everyone got excited at the start of every song thinking it was Ace of Spades, before the excitement slowly fizzled out as it was just yet another imitation. Not for me this

All the songs sound the same. I also am not a fan of live albums.

Horrendous

Absolute drivel. Who would want an expanded version of this

sure dude, whatever, all blended together

Unnecessarily loud screaming maniacal music. Completely out of my listening range.

Seriously? Why?? I listened thru Iron Horse. Every song was the same. Again I ask: WHY? Here’s your one star. Goodbye.

omg this is not a good run for me god.......... WHO LIKES THIS? CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT IT IS THAT GETS THEM GOING??

I can't stand it.

Ugh. It was a struggle to get through this one.

Nur laut, das genügt mir nicht!

It’s like one bad song that went on and on and on. Double album, no thank you

I don't think any live album should really be on this list, and this one is no exception.

This hurt my ears on mute.

Yuck 0/5

My favourite song was the one where a fast guitar riff was repeated for 3 minutes while the singer made guttural throat noises into the mic

I didnt like this album :(

Uggghhhhhhhhhhhh who gives a fuck about a live Motörhead album, not me especially when I already listened to and was underwhelmed by Ace of Spades a few weeks ago. The only good thing is Overkill is on here which has a fun gimmick. This album sucks, and is the first I can without a doubt say shouldn’t be on this list. Fuck off. And of course fucking Jailbait is on here again, disgusting.

Absolutely no need for what sounds like a bootlegged Motörhead concert on this list. Interesting that they open with Ace of Spades though 2.9/10

Eugh another live album

wtf. More unlistenable.

A little Motorhead is a good thing. More Motorhead is a better thing. A double live Motorhead is turning me into a Mushhead. One star for being a live album. If there was a category called 1001 live albums that I need to listen to before I die, I'd give it more than one star.

Didn't fancy that one bit.

i hate this

Not for me. 1/5

I got to Overkill and just couldn’t do it anymore. There was so much left after that. DNF

The sound quality is super shit. I can't make out what he's singing, sounds exactly the same as when there are drunks in front of my house screaming at each other I liked some melodies, but let's be real, this is unlistenable

surprisingly listenable yet shit

it’s all one song bro 2/10

Motorhead is a fine band, but I've already had an album full of the best of these songs on here, these live versions not only fail to add anything to the music, but are also poorly recorded and mixed. I gave them two spades last time, only one this time.

Live album, ain't listening

Yucky I didn’t like this. I understand that it was number 1 in UK but please never come near me. Just exactly the type of music I do not like. Sorrrrryhh.

Amazing band! All the songs sound exactly the same, and they're all shit, but the band is still legendary (FOR WHAT? 0_o). And even though their studio takes are recorded like crap, one should listen to live album, which is recorded in the crappiest way of all possible. Quintessence of crap in one single release. First time here i regret that 1 star is minimum, cause it's definitely 0 out of 5.

I usually do not like live albums.

Not for me …

I'm sure the songs are great - but you can't tell thanks to the awful sound quality...

Horrible vocals.

Why is this even on this list? Pointless

It's quite obvious at this point that I don't like heavy metal, either that or Motorhead is overrated.

Too shouty. Did not like it.

I don't think I like hard rock...

uhhh... I loved the first track. A sweaty, frantic, wailing first track. And then it just kept... going? Lost interest quickly. Nothing grabbed me, once the initial shock got in. I'd vastly prefer being at that venue than getting 1 hour of this album in my kitchen. a low 2, -1 "live album tax." 1/5

Da e nåken godinga her, men livealbum

Every song sounded the same.

Clowntown shit. I’m truly baffled that I can’t find a bad word about them online. Motörhead is boring as fuck. No real talent, nothing really that they’re adding.

If I were a heavy metal fan, I would say it's mighty head banging music. But alas, it's simply not my genre.

Ace of Spades is a head-banging classic. The rest of the album gave me a migraine though.

This type of metal is really not my speed. Especially live albums, since I feel like I'm skipping the step where I actually want to listen to these songs live in the first place. Out of the metal I've listened to, I much prefer the slower, more sludge-y type than this up-tempo type, which just gets too overstimulating for me to really enjoy. Did not really enjoy listening to this, and it just isn't for my tastes, despite whatever quality it might have to other people. Hope to find more metal that I enjoy elsewhere on this list.

Bit hectic after a day at work.

trash. Sounds like shit all around. Vocals: shit, instrumentation: shit, mixing: shit.

3 stars if it wasn’t a live album

Not my jam. Especially not the live version, it's just too gritty sounding. I like more clean recordings. Ace of spades is a banger, as always. 1.5/5.

The lead singer has a bad voice. Kind of just bland hard rock to me. This is definitely not my type of music. It is also almost two hours long. No thank you.

This bad

Oef, live vind ik dit echt moeilijk.

This is not what I call music. It's noisy and makes me feel anxieety.

I don't like live albums and I don't like bad albums so this album checked no boxes for me. 1/5

Ugghhh.....noise

It’s metal and it’s live

Live, dead, I still can’t stand the noise

I like motorhead, I don't like live recordings

This is a lousy recording, as if they put blankets over everything and then did it from backstage. The music sounds like it is going in the opposite direction away from the ears, a smart phone would have been a better recording device. Musically, everything is the same, Motörhead has a sound, and a familiar bluesy riff that permeates nearly every song to where once a listener has started to notice, the damage is done as boredom sets in. Small flashes of differences are sprinkled throughout that give a false sense of hope, but for what reason this album requires doom-prior listening is difficult to determine, maybe even impossible.

This felt like a pretty unnecessary album to be in this list. I know others were not well liked but they could be justified possibly. This album was just overall useless. A love album where they play their best song first and the audio quality is poor. Pretty awful trifecta. 3.1/10

For the love of god, dude. Give me a studio album from them. Why would he put a live Motorhead album on this list? This is not required listening. All on this day, the day of our lord and saviors return, you're going to play a live Motorhead album? He's gonna go back in that cave, and seal it off for another 1000 years of sin and debauchery! I can't deal with this! I won't allow it! Not on this day, the day of our lord and savior, Jesus' return. No. Nah ah. Not gonna happen.

no me gusta

Didn’t like this album

Good news, motorhead fans! Hammersmith has come and gone, since this is a live album, and you can all now sleep soundly. I know I certainly will.

If this is a list of 1,001 songs to listen to before you die, of all the Motorhead albums you could have chosen, why this one? The recording quality is so average.

A good friend knew Lemmy back in the ‘90’s & before I got to know her, & says he was an absolutely top, top bloke. RIP. But much as this makes me want to feel otherwise, I’m afraid this isn’t my music, its just awful. throughout.

Just not my thing

Bitte keine live Alben mehr! 1.0

Skipped. Motorhead stresses me out.

Right off the bat, I pretty much hate this. It’s so loud, and it’s just grating on me today. I am feeling pretty mellow, so that’s not helpful. But I’m not sure I’d like it much anyway. I don’t even want to listen to it, so I’m moving on.

These live albums are uniformly terrible why

I will not listen to anymore metal It does not spark joy

Album? I thought they only had one song!

What could be worse than uninspiring, loud hard rock? A *shitty* recording of uninspiring loud hard rock! Next!

I had to stop. This was fucking terrible

I just can’t. This is not enjoyable for me. Did not listen for more than a minute or so.

Jason Birchmeier of AllMusic wrote, "the performance: in a word, it's breakneck. [...] Motorhead could do no wrong at this point in time, as they were laying the foundation for the coming thrash movement, in a way, and their winning streak continues here on No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith, one of the best live metal albums of all time."
