Reviews (page 5 of 7)
All love and respect to the God Lemmy, but I would be checked out of a Motörhead concert after Ace of Spades
To heavy for me
Foundational Speed metal, biker metal sound. Pre-Punk metal, good sound and some hits came through
This was decent even though it's a live album and all Motorhead songs are basically the same. It's got a good energy to it (the first disc on Spotify at least)
RIP Lenny
REMOVE ALL LIVE ALBUMS FROM THE LIST! It’s like the author had a ‘no greatest hits’ rule, but this is just a cop out. I enjoyed a few tracks but gave up pretty quickly. Every song is literally the same. It sounds like generic ‘rock 1’ music from an old video game. Daw naw naw naw naw naw, daw naw!
Minus one for being a live album
fun metal that makes me feel like i'm in mad max or some shit.
They got their best song out of the way first. Then the rarest kind of sounded the same.
Pretty fun. Nice guitar work
Can't believe Lemmy still has a voice. Love the groups who seem fully committed.
They rock. They rock hard and this was probably a great show to be at (just look at that plane crash stage set-up!). But I like my Motörhead studio.
Well, I put off listening to this for a few days…just couldn’t muster the gumption. So, it definitely could have been worse. I think it helped my enjoyment level by not listening to the entire album in one sitting. Because if my day, it got broken into a couple of tracks at a time…made it tolerable, but not really enjoyable.
This wasn't the best day for loud, live, and muddy, but you get what you get when you get it. Not entirely my jam but closer to my jam than I expected.
Lemmy is a legend when it comes to heavy metal music and his contributions can't be overstated. "Ace of Spades" will always be a banger and I enjoyed "Overkill" and "Motorhead" too. The rest of the album was too similar sounding for me, though. I give it a 2.6/5.
Slept a bit …
Very intense live rock album by rock legends.
6/10 fun hard rock, idk
It sounded like one VERY long song. But they played it well.
After disliking the studio album Ace of Spades as completely as I did, I was not looking forward to this one. Perhaps it's a product of low expectations, but live, Motorhead's relentless energy is more engaging, and the guitar work was solid. Lemmy gets hard to endure, the riffs start blending together, but I get the appeal of the band in this context.
I was enjoying this right up until the song Motorhead. Had the album ended there, I would have given this 4 stars. But no. I was only at the halfway point. Anyway, great playing, high energy. Yeah, it's all one song, but it's a pretty good song. It was just twice as long as it needed to be.
I never liked Lemmy's voice or his absurd distortion sound, but the energy on this is just so palpable. Easy to see why he was revered.
I can live without listening to them
Fun but rather same-y. I’m surprised that they started with their hit.
Motörhead is the cup of coffee that I never asked for nor wanted on this Thursday morning. A hybrid between punk and metal. And while I recognize their skill, I don't necessarily care too much for Lemmy's voice, who sounds like he started gargling razor blades when he was a child. This is definitely an acquired taste.
I liked this more than I thought I would. Pretty tight live band
Sounds like an awesome set, and I do enjoy Motorhead. However, this sucks in the same way as every other fucking live album ever has. It doesn’t really capture how it would’ve sounded if you were there, and instead leaves you feeling like you’re listening to music with cotton balls in your ears.
Odd selection for this list. I feel I can’t accurately judge a live album the same as a studio album because it’s essentially just a greatest hits. So I guess I’ll judge it on performance instead of composition. Motörhead is Motörhead. Simple songs to thrash to and that’s exactly what this was. However I feel like the sound quality of the album couldn’t adequately replicate the feeling of being at a Motörhead show.
Great energy. Heavy metal played at speeds that sometimes border on hardcore punk. The songs blurred together for me on this live album but I’d like to hear a Motörhead studio album.
Good live album - why start with your biggest hit? Solid but not an all time great, few live albums are in my opinion.
Solid rock album and a great live performance, but every song sounds just like Ace of Spades, so it did get a little boring towards the end.
I liked it. ace of spades is a banger the rest are ok, still not a fan of the live albums
If I’m going to listen to a live album I want it to feel different to the album version which this album doesn’t really do. I think that’s an old school metal thing though. Despite that I mostly enjoyed it. Although Jailbait is a weird song and I did not enjoy that, far too close to the truth with rock bands.
There was The Ace of Spades, and then 11 much worse versions of The Ace of Spades. Gets a 3 though because the Ace of Spades does slap and Tony Hawk was a great game.
I’m not opposed to Motörhead, but I am opposed to live albums. Why is this included? It isn’t even all from the same show! The songs are good but this is a very weird pick.
Well - no surprises here, there's nothing but solid fast loud bass drums guitars, with the addition of crowd noises. It's a bit of a cheat code allowing live albums which let you add hits from lots of albums into one. Fortunately here the formula is all the same. Generous three stars, I was listening whilst exercising and it helped.
Otro directo. No me gustan. No suenan mal.
3/5 Standouts: Ace of Spades
No denying the energy
I genuinely love Ace Of Spades - a five star song. The other stuff on here was fun too, but not in the same league. A strong 3 overall.
So much passion and rage. Time to go smash stuff.
Some really good tracks but melodically sounds the same. Pacing drums every song just merges into one. Vocals also lacking range. Still some fun tracks that would be awesome live. Light 6
Impressive playing and the pace is crazy. Whilst it sounds like it would be awesome live, I’m not sure why this live track is here instead of the actual album. Lead singer’s voice seemed to struggle to handle it at times but it sort of added to the rawness of it all. Strong 6
A decent album Top tracks: Ace of Spades, Over the Top
good just not really the stuff i listen to
Hmmm, so what's the big deal about Motorhead live? Other than holy crap these guys can actually keep that pace for a whole show. Or wow, Ace of Spades sounds the exact same live as it does on their album. It's pretty polished for live and at times you can feel the energy of the crowd (though usually only at the start or end of songs). But in the end, it's like an early best of Motorhead, recorded live but not feeling like live. So enjoyable, yeah, but not quite sure its overall significance.
I expected to like this more, I think it’s just the fact that this is a live album that took the enjoyment out of this. Live albums are tough, I wasn’t there, I’d rather just listen to the studio album. This just sounded too muddy overall to get too into, still great energy overall though. 3 stars
It was interesting, not my jam, but I could appreciate the talent involved and hadn't listened to Motörhead previously...at least not intentionally.
Well you could tell it was Motorhead all the way through and in fact the tracks started to sound the same by the end. That's not to say that their most famous tracks aren't great 'cos they are ! High 3* I think
Would have been better if it wasn't a live album.
Enjoyed this more than I though but pretty samey after a while
Pretty good hard rock (I won't call it heavy metal the guitars are not over the top enough). What it lacks in subtlety it makes up for inraw energy. Not really what I'm in to at this time in my life but if you're needing a dose of HARD RAWK! one could do much worse. 3.5 stars
Not my taste.
Gutes Album, aber live ist nicht so meins.
Six albums after the Thin Lizzy live album, and I could cut an paste my comments from there. Decent energy and shorter than that aforementioned album. Was an ok listen
Loved: the chaotic, high energy, face melting riffs and shredding. Powerful rhythm section carries the entire album like a locomotive freight train. Its plain to see why this was the basis for early british heavy metal. Didn't like: Lemmy's fuckin voice. Generic song structure, solos and lead sections are too short. Needs more flair and less edge.
This is Motorhead's first live album. They had released five studio albums and toured extensively at the time of this release. Motorhead had gained the polished confidence of a seasoned band. Their hard, driven style of rock helped create speed metal. While practiced, their songs lack significant range
A lot of it sounds a bit samey but it’s ok. I already knew Ace of Spades. Apparently this is one of the best live albums of all time. I can’t imagine the energy it would take to play this set! Listens: 1 Fave Track: Bomber Rating: 3
good rock, hard to listen to a whole album for me
- Motörhead (1977) - Overkill (1979)
Saw Lemmy live late in his life at Hyde Park gig and he did not disappoint - seeing them in their heyday on this tour though would have been epic. May sure you turn it up to 11!
Whatever. Way too long and would not listen again
Best Song: Overkill. Will always be my favourite Motörhead track, because it has the most aggressive and blistering pace. Love the way it constantly feels like it's building to an explosion, even when you think they can't push it any harder. Worst Song: Capricorn. The worst Motörhead song will always be the slowest Motörhead song. Overall: Although I'm sure it was amazing to be there live, I feel like the live atmosphere here didn't add anything over the studio recordings (and actually detracted a bit in terms of sound quality). Beyond that, it's just a greatest hits collection. Still, these boys clearly know how to rock and put many of their popular contemporaries to shame.
Tsja, als ik dit luister besef ik me vooral dat Ace of Spades hét nummer is, en de rest een beetje een slap aftreksel van dat. Alsnog prima, maar buiten dat nummer om niet interessant
It's so fun! So fast and fun!
It was ok.
Pretty good, Motörhead are always a good time
Fine for a live album, sounds good but the tracks are pretty samey. Motorhead overcome this by being an inherently great band though.
What this live has to be in 1001?
Freakin motorhead
Loud.
Motorhead is a huge influence on a lot of the music I grew up listening to, but outside of Ace of Spades, I have never really dug in much. This album is great as a way to hear a bunch of the best songs from their peak. Everything kind of sounds the same, but its definitely a fun listen. That being said, I wish the sound was better as the live recordings aren't the best.
Honestly? Not my cuppa. High energy and well performed, just not for me.
I can respect but don't particularly enjoy this. Nothing wrong, just not my genre. It's certainly loud! Some interesting harmonic choices that caught my ear, they're definitely fantastic musicians.
I was never really a Motörhead marty, it goes hard but I don't think it's for me. It's one of those where I enjoy listening to it but I don't really have any desire to listen again when I'm done.
I'm still against the idea of live albums on this list. But, this is a solid performance by one of the OG metal bands.
Solid like a yuge dump
comprend pas trop le pourquoi que ce live est dans les 1001. not worth it. chaque chanson se ressemble avec une légère différence. pas désagréable, mais rien d'inspirant 5.5/10
Not a fan. 2.5
Solid hard rock live album. What a great power trio this band was!
Vigorous metal at it's best. To say fast-paced is to regard it lightly
Lemme tell ya, the first time I heard Motorhead was on The Young Ones. Didn't become a fan. This was OK.
Motorhead do one thing and seem to do it quite well. Lemmie is certainly in fine fettle.
Alright. Did get a bit noisy
Decent renditions
Bit too intense for me
I remember in the 80s seeing quite a few of my fellow male teenagers with Motörhead t-shirts, and I had always assumed by their name they must be a metal band, but I think that might be the extent of my previous experience with this band. I'm glad this project served up one of their albums for me to finally give their music a listen. It's definitely hard-driving super-fast-paced and tight hard rock/early metal. When I think about the timing of this (1981) when they had already been a band for a while and had released albums, it makes sense why they are considered early examples of the British metal that was so prevalent in the 80s. The band plays very well -- these are fast-moving songs -- and there's a ton of energy to it. To my ear, which admittedly doesn't hear a lot of hard metal thrash-like stuff these days, the song started to sound quite similar to each other, but my hunch is that's rooted as much in my inexperience with this band and this music as it is rooted in anything about the music itself.
Favourite song: Iron Horse / Born to Lose - Live
ace of spades zo goed, rip lemmy maar nog steeds geen fan van live albums
Goed hé maar zit dit er in voor de hits of omdat het een iconisch live optreden is? Weet niet of het persé in deze lijst moet
Thats a whole bunch of sound going on and on. A little too much for me, but I liked it more than expected
It's ok but don't find the music particularly enticing
This was quite nice once I got into it but I can't really remember anything that stands out, a big haze of metal
Requires a certain mood, took me a while to get through
Motörhead has its place in the olymp of straightforward rock music but it's not really for me. I feel a lot of this powerchord stressing isn't a very interesting path for rock music.
It’s fine. Motörhead really aren’t an album band, but it’s energetic, at least, and I didn’t hate it. Really not remarkable, but alright.
60 of 1001 Motorhead - No Sleep till Hammersmith Favorite Track : No Class Rating : 3 / 5 I was looking forward to getting familiar with some Motorhead, but I don't think this live album is the place to start. It isn't even one concert. Just a bunch of live songs. It was a fine listen but would still rather get into some of their studio recordings. A lot of similar sounding stuff.
My thing with Motorhead is that every song sounds like Ace of Spades... This album is filled with songs that sound like the live version of Ace of Spades...
As much as I love Ace of Spades, many of Motörhead’s songs have a similar tonic and rhythmic structure. Even the “slow songs” here sounded like subdued versions of AoS. Still fist-bumping to its core, but not as many melodic hooks as I would’ve liked.
Highlights: Take your pick; it's consistent. This is probably here because Motorhead never had a standout album and because their music is known for high energy that a live show will build on. It's mostly successful, but rough mixing and wear on Lemmy's vocals bring it down. The way Motorhead sits timbrally and rhythmically between rock, punk, and metal has aged really well; it's pretty much how mainstream rock ended up sounding. If this is being used as a lifetime achievement pick from the list editors, we should give the band its due.
It's a wall of sound. Very monotonous. Production is not that great, but that's not uncommon for live albums. It's fun for as long as it is. It shouldn't have been any longer. Favorite song: the roadcrew
Jaksanu lyriikoota kuunnella tällä kertaa.. hyvää työnteko musiikkia...
After this week you should be handing out neck braces!
Listened to all two hours because no other band out there went as hard as Motörhead did. Definitely gets samey without any variation in the tempo (and not much in the instrumentals if we’re being honest), but that hardly matters when you have the hardest guitar and bass tone of any rock band. An absolute treat to hear the group match and exceed their studio expectations, RIP Lemma and RIP rock n roll.
Not convinced this is a really great live album but it was somewhat enjoyable 2.5/5
Anyone would be forgiven for thinking that they were hearing the same few songs over and over again. Motörhead songs all seem to have the same driving drums and galloping guitar. Even the vocal melodies seem to repeat and blend into each other. Furthermore, the quality of the live recording was not the best and the mix was rather muddy.
Sounds like it was tweaked and overdubbed a bit. But so what? Aren't all live albums played around with to some extent? Otherwise, they'd just be bootlegs. Bonus points for inspiring me to run hard on the treadmill one week after being in Operation Shutdown with a horrible case of COVID. I'll credit Lemmy for (hopefully) steering me away from Long COVID.
Encore une preuve de la sénilité de Robert qui nous a déjà donné la plupart des sons de cet album à bouffer.
Je n'ai pas bien saisi quelle était la valeur ajoutée de cet album par rapport à celui précemment écouté des mêmes Motörhead.
As far as live albums go this is pretty good. It’s fun but Motörhead gets repetitive to me
I found this to be a pretty unexceptional live album and see no reason why this needed to be included here. The songs I knew didn’t sound very different from that studio versions. I will say that the night before I was up working until 2 am and this was absolutely not wha to was looking to hear the day after, so I’ll give this a 3 instead if a two for that reason.
I should’ve listened to some core Motörhead albums before listening to this.
A spectacular and wild performance by Motorhead during the height of their popularity, playing a mix of all their best songs. It's raw, loud, fast, and rowdy heavy metal with a rusty energetic vocal performance by Lemmy and bluesy condensed riffs that repeat themselves a good amount. It'd definitely be more entertaining to see it in person, and honestly listening to live performances this loud and raw gives me a headache, much prefering their more consistent and polished studio efforts. This is more for fans as the songs can blend together if you're not familiar with them. But this is great as a live metal record.
Lemmy died less than a fortnight before Bowie. The only reason I know that is that I was in Canberra that January & the January 20th edition of BMA Magazine, the local free music mag, had a cover with 2 words on it : BOWIE / LEMMY. Such was the fondness for Motorhead’s main man. To have been a roadie for Hendrix & an early member of Hawkwind might have been sufficient to retire on, but he went on to form Motorhead, a noisy trio if there ever was one. This is a totally noisy record, in fact, but it does tick a lot of live album boxes, mainly the fact that it’s a bit like actually being there, without actually being there. I’d never heard it before & probably won’t again, but I enjoyed it.
Decent. Sounds nice enough but ended up using it more as background music. Initially I was going to give it 4 stars, but the deluxe edition is too much of the same stuff.
Punk-informed Thrash Metal, including lots of energy and Motörhead's greatest hist Ace of Spades. The songs lack variation, however - they all are loud and fast, which was (mostly) what the band was all about, but there is nothing setting the tracks apart from each other. 2.5/5
It’s Motörhead LIVE, what do you expect? Hard core metal, giving the fans what they want They might not be your jam, but they put it all out there..loud, fast and hard
Not sure why they put a live album on the list vs any other Motorhead album, but I'll take it!
It was a live album. Not an overly memorable live album, but a nice one nonetheless.
Plus: It's Motörhead. Minus: It's live.
British KISS minus the makeup. I bet the mosh pit was a blast.
It was okay, Ace of Spades the standout
For a live album their energy is absolutely insane. I’ve always enjoyed Motörhead and the crazy hard rock they make. Tbf a lot of their songs sound relatively similar but if you just want something to rock out to you can’t go wrong w them. Also as a bass player Lemmy is just so fuckin cool.
6/10
Motorhead is great at what they do, but it's too 'basic rock' for me.
It's a hard rock cafe kind of hard rock. Has its moments but its a bit bland and repetitive
Fierce
their songs kinda sound the same but we all luv u lemmy
I love Motörhead but this album didn't grab me. Touted as the ultimate live experience, it sounds muddy and flat, like it is coming out of a vocal PA at a pub not meant for live music. A couple of the songs come off OK but in this instance it has none of the bombing run on my ears I have come to expect with Motörhead
It's interesting how this album is so influential for many rock bands after Motorhead, even if it is not a great album. It's too monothematic, musically and lyrically. I enjoyed the long length of almost 2 hours with not-so-good record quality, but it's because is my preferred style of music since I was very young. However, it's not in my list of 1001 albums that people MUST listen to before they die...maybe if the list goes to 2000 albums.
not really my cup of tea. but a couple good tunes.
Nokkuð góð tónleikaplata. Ég er nú vanalega ekkert sérlega hrifin af þeim. En Lemmy, sko. Lemmy hafði eitthvað. Þessi útgáfa af Ace of spades er svaðaleg!
Perfectly serviceable live album from a perfectly fine rock band. Very energetic and affirming but beyond that nothing especially exciting. Some classic tracks for the right kind of person - I just don't think I am that person
It's good but it's live
Someone asked me once why, if I liked rave music so much, I didn't do e. (Or, for that matter, go raving very much.) After a lot of thought, it occurred to me that I'm one of those lucky people who get that indescribable high from the music and from the music alone. The rest, for me, was just paraphernalia with positives and negatives. The high of a trip vs the comedown. The experience of caning it in a field at 4 in the morning vs dreaming of a warm bed and clean sheets two hours later. The community of like minded souls v people, generally. (I'm anti-social by nature.) I guess it's the same with this, in a way. I cannot for the life of me fathom the joy of a Mötorhead live concert, whether sober or under the influence of ...dunno. Speed? 12 pints of lager? Anyway. It does nothing for me but I can totally get how this, and this alone, can take someone to nirvana. (Then, and even now, albums don't get to No1 on hot air and false pretences alone.)
Metal classic
It's odd because it's not that good a live album - the editing between songs doesn't even try to make it sound like the songs came from one show. It's no 'Live At Leeds' but it's ok. You kinda know what you're going to get.
3.75
very rock but not my generation
Started listening but haven’t finished. Pretty frickin cool so far.
för att vara livealbum så var det faktiskt inte så dumt alls, någonting speciellt med gamla GUBBS som kör järnet på en scen och skriker rösten ur sig
Bra drag, men alla låtarna är ju Ace of Spades?
"a road that don't have no end" - that's as apt a description as any for this album. I do really like the cover though, it's a bitchin' stage setup.
A lot, but enjoyable
Might like it more if it weren't live.
8/3/2022 - ALBUM #188 https://open.spotify.com/album/2uqUv4tMXOPTwP6nHzi9mA?si=086d71de466c4881 Today's Album: "No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith (Live)" by Motörhead - As far as live albums go, I think it’s pretty fair to suggest that a studio album is always going to be superior in terms of subtlety of sound and distillation of artist intent. But, with a kickass heavy-metal rock band like Motörhead, those two things really don’t matter, and that is why I think this album is pretty kick-ass. It’s a pretty great recording of some classic Motörhead hits and, although somewhat fatiguing after a while, I think it faithfully recreates what it would be like to hear them live in their prime. I really like that it starts off with a super recognizable track, Ace of Spades, as gets me familiar with how the next hour will sound without being too heavy too fast. After that, though, I do think the album sits at a pretty consistent level of quality for most of the rest of the album. The highlights demonstrate when the band is able to launch above and beyond their normal sound with guitar solos so good I am shocked they can do it live, but for the rest of it, it’s pretty much at a solid above-average level of enjoyment. Overall, I think the live element of this album works immensely well in it’s favor and I think it gives a good window into who Motörhead are as a band and what it sounded like to hear them back in the day. Give this one a listen if you like heavy rock / metal. Highlights: Ace of Spades, Metropolis, Overkill Score: 6.75/10 Really solid live album from some hard-rock legends
Lemmy positioned his microphone in an uncommonly high position, angled so that he appeared to be looking up at the sky rather than at the audience. He said that it was for "personal comfort, that's all. It's also one way of avoiding seeing the audience. In the days when we only had ten people and a dog, it was a way of avoiding seeing that we only had ten people and a dog.”
Average metal. Some of the riffs were enjoyable, no song stuck out much
Tremendous concert recorded. Pure energy and electricity. I am not a great lover of Motorhead music, but I appreciate this work.
I like Moorhead but after awhile it all kinda sounds the same.
This is fine, but I don't really see the point when there's already other Motorhead albums on this list.
a good racket! 3
El concierto debió de haber estado mamalon
Glad I went the 40m route. Ace of Spaces (great!), followed by a bunch of lesser clones (meh). Capricorn stands out as being a little different than the rest (in a good way) Would this album been better if we had looped all of their live versions of Ace of Spades over and over? Frankly It'd probably sounds just about the same.
Not too bad but 29 tracks on the first listen was a bit too much. I think I've I'd listened to the base 11 both times I could up this to a 4. And it looks like another Motörhead is coming soon so that will be interesting. Faves: The Hammer, Iron Horse, Capricorn
Great stuff.
This might be the weirdest album on here. I already listened to the "Ace of Spades" album and half of these songs are already on it. Anyway, I'll say the same thing here that I did there: Ace of Spades is a great song but every song sounds just like it and I'd rather just occasionally listen to it than sit through an entire album.
Nice
I love motorhead. This album isn't bad. I just don't super fuck with live albums, add in that it's like almost 2 hours of different shows it seems. It's just not a vibe for me honestly.
Energetic live album, enjoyed it but not excessively! I need to be in the right mood for metal.
The classic lineup! You really get a feel for the power of the band. I remember how HEAVY this was considered at the time, and how quaint that idea feels now.
A big ol' loud album for a Thursday morning. Not sure the Deluxe version is needed but how can you not enjoy Lemmy and Ace of Spades?
I once motorboated my auntie at a wedding. Everyone was disgusted, but we didn't care. In fairness, she gave me head at the altar during the ceremony too. I was 8 years old. Love a Spackman wedding, the perfect storm of pleasure and crime. Lemmy was also there and gave me the thumbs up, so I'll take that as a victory. He refused to give me head.
A straightforward live album from Motorhead. Perhaps this is essential listening for Motorhead fans, but I could take or leave it.
A solid rock album with plenty of gusto. However there's not much variety (several songs sound very similar to the classic Ace Of Spades. I do like Lemmy's vocals mind: I would highly recommend his first album with a Sam Gopal. That is an album worth seeking out.
Love ace of spades but the rest sounded same.
never really a fan of the music, okay then a 3 because of lemmy
Not sure if live albums should be on the list but this well-known album seems like a proper choice: classic Motorhead songs by the classic Motorhead line up. The songs sound better on the studio albums.
Ace of Spades and Train Kept a Rolling are two all time great rock songs, and this entire live performance is brimming with high octane energy. I can't imagine listening to the deluxe 2+ hour version, but ~40 minutes was just fine with me!
Energetic and powerful, expected no less. Probably greatly symbolic of their live legacy, but after a few songs the experience doesn’t provide too much change from their most famous song.
It's Ace of Spades, the song everyone knows, but 18 times in a row and lasting an hour. Good thing that Ace of Spades is a good song, otherwise this would have been unbearable. Can't give this anything higher than 3 stars - these songs probably work better in a random heavy metal playlist than an album. I'm sure being at the concert was hype though.
Never been a huge fan. There is for sure something I like about Motorhead. I would totally see them live. But in the end, the writing is simplistic and it's not enjoyable to listen to a recording of their music. The melodies are non existent. It's like being yelled at in traffic for an hour.
Here I go, judging a band before ever actually listening to a record. Maybe just by the way Lemmy dressed/groomed and with his haggard swagger I assumed his style was funky (the stinky kind of funky) boomer rock, or whatever. Somewhere between Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Guess how wrong I was. His image really threw me off. This record immediately struck me as road-rash, blistering buttocks punk. It reminds me more of The Cult, or maybe now I should say, The Cult reminds me of Motörhead. Great live show, and I can imagine the paradox or skin-heads wearing cowboy hats in the mosh pit.
A legendary band for sure, blazing a trail for others but........ this gets pretty samey no?
I've never been a big fan of Motorhead (although I love the Ace of Spades). This album kicks ass and makes me realize that I may have been missing something for a long time.
Wasn’t exited by this one at all, another live metal album. But this one goes hard and is not cringe at all. I really enjoyed it.
Nothing like listening to a bunch of Motorhead songs back to back to back to realize that while they sound good, they all kinda sound the same
Eh It's ok. Don't really care for this though they sound great on the album. Not my cup of tea. 6/10.
Decent, songs were a bit long and got kinda grating, but maybe it was just that I was driving through Auburn. 6/10
Sure is loud. 6
un poco de remember pero a la larga cansa
It's raw, but I'm not sure in a good way. I may prefer their studio recordings. Probably not the best thing for 8:00 am at the office. I'm gonna take some ibuprofen now.
Motörhead isn’t really my thing. Maybe I need to listen to more to get it.
Classic Motörhead, however, I’m not a big metal fan.
Progenitor thrash metal
Had already got the original album. Love it, it must have been awesome to be at the concert, but I'd rather just listen to the studio recorded once since I don't have the memories to justify the live version.
Pretty good live album, all sounded decent
Have not been a huge fan of live albums. This is a pretty decent one, though
Solid
A very good live album
3/5
Great Rock album. Live always a bit rough though.
Cañero y sin respiro. Puro rock en armonía
Pas vraimennt d’interet, j’aime le metal mais un show live de speed comme ca. Je ne suis pas certain que c’est dans mes gouts. 3
It's classic heavy metal music. It's well done, but it's not to my tastes
Enjoyable to listen to. Sounded like a fun concert. I hadn't listened to motorhead much before this. I would listen to more.
Liking this more than the Thin Lizzy live album anyway. I have to say I do enjoy listening to this band, their sound is exciting and so consistently rock n roll. With two albums on the list though I kind of wish it was not a live album that included many of the songs on the other album. I enjoyed the Motorhead song, I think it's gutsy when bands write their own theme song, but I think this one works.
Pretty good live album limited talking in between songs
It was ok I guess
Not a huge fan of the singer, but the rest of it isn't bad.
RIP Lemmy
This is a pretty heavy jam, and rockin' live album that honestly never felt live or overproduced like some of the other live albums we've had. It hits the same spot for me that ZZ Top did- it's enjoyable riffs, but beyond Ace of Spaces, very same-track. Def has its time and place!
A good rock and roll album, but not one that will make it into my rotation.
Honestly, it all sounds the same to me.
OK, but live is cheating, + 2 times the same album, no thank you!
1/27 Didn't like the mix on this live album, but the music's still great. Standout Tracks: Ace of Spades, (We Are) The Roadcrew, Capricorn
I would have enjoyed seeing Motörhead in person. This is not a way to sell it to a new listener. A fan-service release.
I sometimes vibed with the guitar on some of the songs. Just a bit much for me
со всем уважением, я такое слушать не могу)
Another live album that doesn’t do anything that a studio album couldn’t do better. Play it loud.
That is some hi energy RnR punk metal , not my favorite and i am also not crazy about live albums
Don't really like them
515/1089 - It's loud, it's fast, and sounds like ass :)
Perfectly fine background noise
thankfully this wasn’t the start of another reign of terror of 70s/80s live albums. Just one is enough for my month. And looking this up there seems to be like 10 different live albums they’ve recorded
Didn't really care for it.
Motörhead are still Slade on speed. Arguably more so live.
It sure is Motörhead. fav song: Iron Horse/Born To Lose
I'm actually not a huge fan of Lemmy's voice and the overdriven mushy guitar sound.
This was a lot of the same song. I just do not enjoy Motorhead. I get Motorhead from an intellectual and musical perspective, but they're not for me ⭐⭐.49
When I want to listen to something monotonous I'd rather have it be less aggro.
Metally
Didn't care for this at all. Very muscular singing though!
Sounded a bit the same overall. Great energy fast paced rock n roll. Impressive 3 piece great sound. Probably still a 2 though from me.
Metal and me are not a fit
Okay they really are just "Ace of Spades and then a bunch of songs which aren't Ace of Spades but are trying to be". I'm sure this was great live. However halfway through it went from "yeah this is alright" to "ugh why won't this goddamn end".
*1981. *Don't care for this. I can tolerate it, but all the songs sound like the same to me. *It sounds like Van Halen, but bad? I expected them to be more metal, but I guess 80s metal is a different story. RATING - 4.5/10
Sounds very samey to me.
01) Ace of Spades - 8,0 02) Stay Clean - 6,0 03) Metropolis - 6,0 04) The Hammer - 6,0 05) Iron Horse/Born to Lose - 6,5 06) No Class - 5,5 07) Overkill - 5,0 08) (We Are) The Road Crew - 5,5 09) Capricorn - 5,5 10) Bomber - 5,0 11) Motörhead - 5,0 TOATL: 5,82 (58/100) Now what's the point of live albums on this list? What makes this version of "Ace Of Spades" different than the one I listened on an original album?
I don’t care for this type of music which is too heavy, loud, fast, intense, and noisy. The yelling vocals don’t help. Having said that, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I did get through it, but would never want to listen to it again. It has to sit at a 2 for me.
No me gustó nada. Ni como sonó ni la música. Será que ya estoy es muy lejano a mí Nota: 1.7
Lo escuché. Costó pero estaba bueno. No es mi onda, pero tenía unos bueeenos temas.
It’s just noise really
I feel like I have been pretty generous to live albums, but this one just wasn't for me. The sound feels really muddy, and a lot of the identity of the tracks gets lost in the noise. Sounds like people are having fun, though. Favorite track: "Iron Horse/Born to Lose"
I respect the band in all ways but unfortunately this type of music is not for me.
Aside from being utterly baffled at Motörhead appearing again, I didn’t enjoy this as much. It is a tight, lively album but the criticism of their last entry remains the same - it all sounds just the same after a while. “Ace of Spades” obviously sounds great, and opening with it is quite the choice. I still enjoy “(We Are) The Roadcrew”, but generally I was not as much of a fan of this.
It was only a few albums ago I was saying Motörhead were fun but variety was not their strong suit. So this is basically that, but live. I am still of the opinion that live albums are, in general, not really all that great - I love experiencing live music in person, but a recording of that is just not the same. Unless it's a band I already know I adore, in the comfort of my own home, I'm going to want to listen to a studio recording over a live album. I gave Ace of Spades 2/5 but would have given it 2.5 if half stars were a thing. As this is that, but not quite as enjoyable for me, it's a genuine: 2/5
The shit version of great songs. This is a must listen to album so you can see how crap live recording was in the 80s. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
Heavy metal, but listenable
I can glimpse the greatness of Motorhead in this album. But I had to look past my unfamiliarity of the material and the poor production of the live performance. Honestly, except for that glimpse, it's a lot of noise. I'm happy to check out a studio album of theirs, tho. 2/5
Kind of the same song over and over
Every song is just the Ace of Spades. I got very bored of this
1 hour 48 minutes… As a live album it’s good, but that’s to be expected when every song is effectively the same.
At the risk of being an old fuddy duddy, please pass me my ear plugs 😐
"Ace of Spades" was the only highlight. If we're gonna have live albums on here, can they at least have a higher recording quality than this? The bootleg recording of the Bob Dylan concert sounded better than this.
I suppose it put motorhead on the map
Your first record of an artist’s discography should generally not be a live album. This is very true for me and Motorhead. The only thing that comes through this mix is loud guitars and Lemmy’s vocals, neither of which give me satisfaction. Sorry, Motorhead fans, I’ll pass. It’s not awful, just not pleasing to the ears. 2 stars
It's a live album alright. I opted for the original release and not the 2 hour extended version this website links to. 44 minutes was more than enough of this. I'm sure it was a good show, but live albums almost unanimously don't translate to a recorded format to anywhere near the experience of the live show. They're more nostalgic than they are transformative, important, or incredible. They completely lack the visual and physical experience that make live shows what they are. A very select few of the live albums on this list deserve to be here, and this isn't one of them. 2.3/5
Good fun but not hugely listenable for me. I think they sound like a fun live act for sure but I think I'd rather listen to their studio records. There's the loss in fidelity that you'd expect from a real live environment and I don't think the atmosphere gives you much in return. They also felt a bit samey, but I don't know if the nuances of different tracks comes through better on studio records. It was definitely fun to listen through though. They seem like a really fun band
Not crazy but can see a value here.
Can’t say I need a Motörhead live album, especially the extended version. Don’t mind them, their place in history and was probably fun being there but it is all very much one note from start to finish as a recorded experience. Really don’t need this 2 Star.
Overkill is very apt, cause that’s exactly how this feels. All the songs blend into one speedy fuzzy blur. Not for me.
Why a live album?? Seems they have a big back catalogue and some good tunes. Were they just bad at albums? Crowd noise and inane chat between songs is just annoying, not endearing.
Alcoholic dad metal with one good song and a really bad live album. Every song just sounds like boring thrash with the same loser screaming nonsense over it. Over the top had a pretty mean solo though, but other than that this thing fucking sucked lmao.
Every song kinda sounds the same...
This annoyed me to listen to. Not for me at all.
Not terrible, but the whole album just sounded like an extended version of Ace of Spades. More jams than I thought, but I don't think I'll ever listen through again
For a rock album that is this hard rock, I have more warmth for this album than I'd expect. I suspect it's because of Ace of Spades being a Rock Band staple back when I played it on the Wii all the time. But this is too noisy and yell-y for me to really get into it. 2.5, rounding down.
No me pareció malo, aunque si muy largo y medio pesado de escuchar todo junto. Es un poco cruel ponerle 2 pero por otro lado no destaco ningún tema en específico. No ayuda que sea live.
I like the band and the songs but this particular live recording doesn't really offer much to me, if anything, listening to these versions is a bit of a detriment for the band if it gets recommended to someone who doesn't know them beforehand.
Hört sich irgendwie alles gleich an wie der erste Song.
If you've only heard 'Ace of Spades' from Motorhead like I had, then you pretty much know what you're in for = this is essentially a double album with near two hours of Ace-of-Spades =I'll take the EP with a couple of tracks rather than a full album pls. 2.5 star
Not a big fan of live albums. This solidified that. Motorhead have one song. I can't imagine what that concert felt or smelled like. No thanks.
Wasn't really feeling this at all but then my coworker started messaging me christian ministry stuff they were finding on youtube and the presence of these red faced protestant gnomes talking about doing spiritual warfare was so grating that I found some comfort in this. Lemmy's voice is really cool and the music is really muscular and punchy in a way I sometimes enjoy but it also runs off me like water on a duck's back. The chanting at the end of Motorhead is sick, feel the energi. Favorite Tracks: Ace of Spades, (We Are) The Roadcrew, Motorhead
Motorhead sucks. They got one song, and then a bunch of minor variations on that song. Some of which are about statutory rape. That said, their live stuff is better.
This was a slog. The drummer and bassist are insane, but all the music sounds the same and it’s super trash. Maybe that’s what people like about it?
This life recording sounds like essentially 40 minutes of the same thing. I don't really see the appeal of Motorhead after hearing this. Very little variation in vocal style or delivery across this collection. I was disappointed.
This is the problem with bands like Motorhead - all of their music sounds the same, and this album just proves that. Felt boring and same'ish throughout. Plus, this is the live version, so we have to pointlessly listen to all the dedications and unintelligible crowd work before each song. These should've been cut out, they add nothing to the album, and actually make it worse. Did not even listen to Disc 2 because suffering through Disc 1 was more than enough.
Talented people playing their instruments well, a happy crowd, some well known songs... what's not to like? That was a rhetorical question. Lemmy's voice just isn't for me. But I appreciate the artistry here.
Not for me
Born too late to be there for this recording and give myself hearing damage, sad times Initially I was listening to the non-40th anniverary edition on Apple Music, and for some reason the first track was the original studio recording of Ace of Spades, I was thinking "wow was this recorded live???" then I realised
This was recorded on a potato in a nosebleed seat. Why is it on the list
I thought I’d like this less than I did. I still didn’t really like the songs or the vocals but the energy and musicianship were good. I never listen to heavy metal so this was definitely a change though I’d still probably never come back to this.
Given that the majority of this album is already on this list, not sure why this live taping is all that special to be included again, but good title I guess.
I find this album uninspired and boring. I could have gone my whole life without listening to it and feel like I’m not missing out.
this exists. i'm bored
This is the kind of rock that is better live
album long + trop metal
TBH, I was not looking forward to listening to this album because I knew it wouldn't be for me. That being said, I was able to find some instrumental glimmers in there that worked. Also I'm a Capricorn and there is a song called Capricorn.
Another free pass live album. No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith (love the title) is a slight improvement over our previous Motorhead listen to Ace Of Spades. But still middle of The Roadcrew. (2.3*s) Didn’t we listen to this one already?
Motorhead sounds as good (or bad) live as they do in the studio. Some epic guitar shredding on this one. Must have been a kick-ass show no doubt. Can't really rate these live ones without a bit of disdain, but certainly a better one from the list. Lemmy sounds like he hadn't sleep for months and partied hard. Bunch of bumps, booze, and boobs on this tour I'm sure...1.93 stars.
I was writing my review, then checked the prior Motorhead entry and realized that I wrote nearly the same thing verbatim again. To echo the main thought: they certainly have a formula as nearly every song sounds the same. You can expect a fast beat, Lemmy growling out some lyrics over a riff then a couple quick-shot solos. I guess if you like one Motorhead song you would like them all. I'm fine with one song but don't need to hear it repeated ad nauseum for the length of an album. I do expect that these guys seem like they would be on another level at a live show. There's a ton of energy and in the right room I can see why Motorhead would kick ass. It translates a bit in the live album, but not enough for me to get into another gear. To their credit not much is lost between studio and live versions, but its just not something that I need beyond a single song every couple of years. Not always, but there have been plenty of albums on this list where I've stuck around for any bonus tracks or extra versions on Extended/Deluxe/Remastered Editions or whatever. I didn't bother with this one as I got more than I needed from the 1 x 11 tracks I heard in the original cut. 2.13 stars
live rock albums are cool in theory but not great in listening practice
Listening session: january 15th, while commuting from and to internship Listened to before: no Thoughts: I’m sure that it was a lot of fun to witness this live but while listening to this front to back, most songs sounded the same to me Favourite track: Capricorn
not a big fan of motörhead
deve ter um valor emocional enorme pra pessoas que abusam de whisky e brigam na rua sob a sombra do ROCK como eu só bebo socialmente minha nota hj vai ser baixa (eu gosto de ace of spades e acaba ai)
Fine. Will never revisit.
Cool. First Motorhead album. The only song from these guys that I've listened to is their contribution to the first SpongeBob movie soundtrack. No, I'm not ashamed as I genuinely do like that album. Their song was pretty funny. They modified the lyrics of "You Better Run" to better fit with the underwater theming of Sponbo. I'm surprised hard rock was still kicking it in the 80s with the advent of digital music production, but props to these guys for keeping it alive. Yeah, it's hard rock, but with a twist. Modernised music production techniques have refined these guitar riffs to the point where they don't sound like crunchy pieces of shit anymore. The vocals are decent, too. I can appreciate the gruff, foolhardy vocals from the frontman - they make for a pretty fun listen. Above all else, it's impressive that this is a live album. Only the percussion and audience/vocal interludes have that "live" quality to them. You could pass the rest of this album off as a studio recording and I'd honestly be fooled. All that being said, this is ultimately a hard rock album. These songs heavily follow a formula and do so competently, but I am ultimately not a fan of the style and felt that many of the songs blended together. Book time. "...one of the most important live albums in rock history". Performed by only three people, though that's about it. Wikipedia says that this album topped the UK charts. It's also their biggest chart success, which is a surprise. I can let this one through. I know Motorhead are an iconic act, and I think live albums are a fitting way of channeling that iconic factor. I cosign this inclusion.
2.5
Genuinely could not tell half the songs apart.
Honestly, I've never been a Motorhead fan. This really didn't help. Cool that they started with Ace of Spades, but it really just blended all together for me after that.
Det här bandet har väl några bra låtar, men trist med live.
Its December 23rd and i'm so hung over my bones hurt. The last thing i need it 2 hours of live motorhead but here we go. Im on record as saying live records shouldn't be on here and this doesnt change my mind. There is obviously a lot of talent, energy and drive her and i can imagine if i was a motorhead fan then this wohld have been a great gig to attend, but i didnt want to listen to this.
insgesamt nicht so meins, bestimmt gut fürs boxen
