Reviews (page 9 of 13)

It's not bad, but just like others, reggae just doesn't do it for me because it all feels so similar.

I should like Bob Marley. He ticks every box for a guy like me. He's one of those dudes that someone like me would have had a poster or T-shirt of. But try as I might, I just can't with Reggae. This started out better than I'd hoped, more funky than reggae, but the Reggae sound and been soon dropped. Nah bro. Being objective though, good band, good lyrics, good things. But I don't need or want to hear it again.

Good reggae

This is the third 70’s album that this generator has given me in 3 days. I’m starting to think 70’s music is just a little too lowkey for me but maybe it’s just the genres.

One of the greatest exponents of the Reggie genre. Not my bag, but eminently listenable. Nothing exceptional, so not a 4. But a very high 3.

It was nice to hear a black man sing nicely and not talk about treating women like meat. If fact it was quite uplifting with his love and be happy vibe. There were a few times where Bob went down the familiar path of 'slavery' but it was subtle enough to be ignored. The guitar playing was excellent, without it being too much in the reggae style I find tedious to listen to. On the whole. IThis album was much better than all of his famous material which bores me to tears.

it's reggae alright...

If you like reggae, Bob Marley is great. Very consistent throughout the album. Stir it Up will be well known to most, and probably my favorite on this record

I did like. Very relaxing abd romantic. But i missed the political commentary

I like how groovy and calm this album is. This is a solid background music album. The repetitive lyrics don’t get annoying because it’s so chill. It kind of gives beachy vibes.

Pretty good but it's similar to lot of other Bob Marley albums where a lot of the songs sound the same, still enjoyable though

I preferred the other bob marley album I listened to on this list. But still enjoyed it.

Good strum, but reggae all starts to sounds the same.

I'm not a huge fan of reggae. This album is new to me. It's okay, I don't hate it.

There's a certain drum pattern that screams reggae

Not really a fan but was ok

Better than Coldplay

I will wail on these guys until the sun comes home. Some decent tracks

Like= 400 years Stop that train Stir it up (especially the latter half) Kinky Reggae (although I don't love the lyrics) No More Trouble Midnight Ravers The last two Jamaican version songs

Like it for what it is.

Not personally a big reggae fan, but it’s clear this is a great album of that genre. Just won’t be coming back to much on this one, personally.

Perus Marley. Ei oikeen herätä tunteitä mihinkään suuntaan.

Ihan kivaa kuunneltavaa (niinkuin reggae melkein aina on), mutta ei missään nimessä Bob Marleyn parhaita levyjä. Baby we've got a datesta tulee tosi vahvasti Johnny Cashin Ring of fire mieleen. Bob Marleyta olen aika paljonkin kuunnellut vuosien saatossa, mutta jotenkin tämän olin onnistunut skippaamaan. Entuudestaan tuttuja biisejä oli ainoastaan siltä kaikkien tuntemalta kokoelmaltakin löytyvä Stir it up.

I guess now is the time I tell the group I really do not like reggae…appreciate this is a classic tho.

It's not so lazy as I remember it being and I can see why folks liked it at the time.

This was more mellow than what I was expecting. I liked it but didn’t love this album.

Difficult to not like a Bob Marley song for me. So it was easily enjoyable.

More of a mature sound than Exodus and Natty Dread. There’s something a touch more compelling about this record. Not quite as timeless as Exodus, but something I’d be keen on revisiting ✨

Always fun to listen to Bob Marley, but not enough for a repeat

We could use some more Bob Marley at times like these.

This was groovier than Natty Dread

I liked this more than the other album. Reggae isn’t my jam but it’s cool.

I really liked the Exodus album, but with the exception of Stir it Up, I can’t see nydelig returning to any of the songs on this album. For me, this is an example of generic reggae.

Second Marley album on the list and I’m here for it. Let’s go… It’s a deeply pleasant, easy vibe. Does it excite me? Not really. But it settles me and makes me feel satisfied and have a nice bob (pun actually not intended). The Peter Tosh songs feel a little clashing at times. Just a clear difference, but still enjoyable. Can’t beat ‘Stir It Up’. But as I say, a pleasant listen, that’s very enjoyable but I’m not wowed like other music. (3.5)

I can respect the music and talent. Just not for me

Tycker det är tråkigt tyvärr. Men bra musikalitet

More Marley goodness .....

I have to be in the mood for Marley. 7AM while you're working isn't the right time. Otherwise, good album.

Solid album. He told so much through his songs.

this record was my introduction to reggae as a whole. I wouldn’t say it was a revelation, but it did make me want to get more familiar with the genre. I enjoyed the tracks with a more personal, melancholic tone; will definitely add no more trouble and concrete jungle to my playlist. generally, though? I’m afraid catch a fire didn’t cling to my soul.

Good Marley

Didn’t listen to whole thing . I get the gist

Liked all the songs individually but I got a bit bored by the end. And I just didn't enjoy it as much as the last Bob Marley & The Wailers album we had (Exodus) Favourite song: 400 years Least: All Day All Night

#145/1001. I used to not like reggae, then my friend got me in to it. Then slowly I started disliking it. Then another friend played Concrete Jungle (I think this version,.I tried to find it afterwards and there are lousy versing out there). After that I have understood that many genres have classics and bangers, but still most of the album doesn't speak to me. All this has averaged in this list to either 2 or 3. So yes, je regrette mon reggae phase.

6.5/10

Lovely vibey beats.

Bello, rilassato come un buon cannone

After this album came out Len Houmous scoffed and said ‘Bob Couldn’t Catch A Cold’. Len never said why they didn’t get on. Bob said it was jealousy. I never saw Len jealous though! 2.6 6/11 Stir It Up

This is a high 3 some good songs

I have no idea whether this constitutes a good example of the genre, so can’t really pass comment.

I enjoyed this but it lacked any real standout tracks from a first listen and I’m not sure I enjoyed it enough to warrant a second listen.

After listening to this I felt surprisingly little, other than very white. Didn’t particularly move me or get my attention. It wasn’t bad per se, just kind of…there? Seems to lack the hooks and musicianship of some of his more well known songs.

I so badly did not want to listen to this album. It was not terrible

An okay album, I'll give them that. Not into reggae, but I can appreciate the lazy tempo.

I like Bob Marley and the reggae genre. Good album.

Reggae. I know so little and not sure what makes this stand out against other in the genre. Alright if you're in the mood for it

Reggae is one of those genres that I'd rarely ever sit down and listen to of my own volition, but I can recognise a high quality example of the genre when I hear it. "Catch a Fire" falls into that category - following the warm bass throughout is akin to having your brain massaged, and the lyricism dealing with themes of political injustice towards minorities / abject poverty provides a chilling juxtaposition to the generally sonically uplifting music. I probably need to spend some more time with Bob Marley, and I know that he has at least one more album in the list, so one way or another I will get around to doing so.

CHill. Nice

Chill album, chill music

I like it but another listen gasnt convinced me that I LOVE it. Some great songs never the less

Something nice to have in the background. I'm not a big reggae person but I get the appeal

Simpler than his later work

Reggae halt. Passt schon..

A Bob Marley album is always a good time, but this one is a touch rough around the edges

Meh reggae

It’s not my style, but I understand why people like him. 6.5/10

It’s good but it just has a time and place. Like hanging out on the beach

Kinky reggae. I like the wailers they stir it up

Solid reggae. Where’s my hacky sack?

it's alright. not bad for reggae, but not really my thing

Solid Marley. Not a ton of hits. Good listen. No poor songs

First listen

M- 7/10 S-

Not his best but still pretty damn good! Stir it Up shows where he was going with his sound I think. Easy skankin’

There is too much Bob Marley on this list

Good reggae

Great reggae album with a few lesser awesome tracks. Hard to have a bad day I guess when this is the album I start out with? Maybe that's the point of reggae?

(3) i listened to the first three tracks and they were alright

This is a vibe. Chill, happy music. Feels like what I'd play during a summer party. All the songs sound really similar. 5.5/10

It was well done, and in small doses it's fine. Just not my jam typically.

Nice vibe, wouldn't seek it out again.

Not my favorite Bob Marley album, but still pretty solid.

Didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Although I did listen to it very early in the morning so maybe that's played a part?

Banger of the Album: Stop That Train Not really a massive regae fan, most of it kinda blurs into a single sound all the time. However, it is very easy to listen to and it's hard to not be in, at least a little, better mood after it ends.

Pretty fun, bass playing is amazing and easily my favorite aspect of the album.

Regular, didn’t very exciting

Good vibes. Feels grittier, less polished, darker, than expected. Many songs are similar and blend together, though I suppose that really just comes with the territory. It was a good listen but not much stood out to me.

Very easy to listen to and with a smooth silky sound, Bob Marley & The Wailers are practically a genre of their own. For my taste though, the songs all sound a bit too similar. No specific track grabbed my attention, with the exception of the famous Stir it Up. I would classify it as a fine album to put on as background music while doing something else, but that's not worthy of the legend that is Bob Marley.

This contains a nice mix of social commentary with lighter, more upbeat themes, and musically it’s perfectly competent. But… I felt there was something missing. Ironically it didn’t really ‘catch fire’ the way my favourite reggae does - almost as if every track was a few bpm slower than it needed to be. A shame, as I wanted to really like it. 400 Years and No More Trouble were my highlights. 3 / 3.5

First listened inside and wasn't into it. Then took a walk on a sunny day and was into the rest of the album.

I've never really given Marley much of a chance, but I'm immediately finding it pretty interesting. The reggea beat is instantly recognizable. Enjoyed the listen, but don't see myself returning too much

Reggae isn't my thing but I don't mind it and I get why people like it. I just don't feel qualified to rate this.

Solid Bob Marley. Gotta be in the right mood.

Obviamente so resale Stir It Up, aún así Concrete Jingle y Rock It Baby fueron buenos descubrimientos para mi.

Good intro into reggae as someone who doesn’t listen to much of it, but I found it a little lacking in variety—all the songs sounded roughly the same. However, it was enjoyable enough.

Relaxing and influential, but many artists have one-upped it. Now it is just a relic.

It's a nice listen, but perhaps not the most iconic bob marley album ever. But I definitely enjoyed it. Find the story behind it having two versions, a jamaican and an international/english one curious.

Sonically great but not quite my taste

tinder

I've listened to a lot of Marley and reggae. I've heard this before. It's not a must listen to album. Exodus and Legend are WAY better. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #140 Best Songs Stir it up Midnight Ravers High Tide or Low Tide

cool but midway through gets kind of all the same appreciate the lyrics though

Classic Marley

Decent album but reggaes just not for me. After a few tracks the beat gets repetitive and annoying.

This was perfectly acceptable

Reggae has never been my favorite, and Bob Marley was always a touch overrated in my mind. That all said, I think that this album has a great message and the music is well produced and recorded.

This album was a good surprise for me. Most of the songs didn’t sound familiar at all (I’m a reggae ignoramus, so no surprise here), and were actually much better than I expected. Perhaps because it’s something of a transitionnal album between early Bob Marley and his later, fully-developped reggae period, I found it musically richer than what I usually associate with reggae music. You can still hear the blues, soul and gospel influences behind the music, and there is a variety of moods that make the album as a whole quite interesting. I really liked "400 Years", a song I had never heard before, and "No More Trouble" had an almost blues-like vibe. This album will certainly make me dig deeper into Marley’s earlier works. A solid 3*, or even a 3,5* for me.

Decent album.

I do not like reggae, but I especially cannot stand the inauthentic white-boy reggae of the likes of UB40 or The Police. At least this is authentic. Still a bit shit, though.

Early Wailers is good listening but far from Bob n crew’s best or most radical stuff

Interesting. None of the Bob Marley songs I know are on this album. Lets Go. Track 1 is a great track. I am not a reggae guy at all but I did enjoy this. So far so good Track 2 is the most streamed song from this album on Spotify. I think I have actually heard this one. I really enjoy the bass line in this one. There is nice variety on this album. 400 Years is a great track. This is a good album. I assume there will be other Bob Marley albums in this list but this seems like a great intro to reggae album. 3.3/5

Alright, have to listen again fully

Chill, surprisingly enjoyable.

Good, upbeat songs

I do like reggae, it’s silky, it has a funk, it’s catchy. Listening to the deluxe album did nothing for me, it was too long that way (an hour and twenty minutes!) This album is meant to be listened to outside in warm weather, even better on a beach. Unfortunately, I’m listening to this at night inside, so it doesn’t have the same panache. I do really love how much the background singers feature and harmonize. The songs can get a little repetitive and blend into one another, but again, the deluxe version can be blamed for that. I’m not enthralled but I also didn’t mind listening to it at all. I could see this being a 5 star album for many people. It doesn’t connect with me personally, doesn’t make me dance in my seat, but doesn’t make me cringe. A solid album. I definitely prefer the Jamaica versions better than the original versions. They’re just so much more interesting and complex. The non-Jamaican versions are watered down.

400 Years poikkeuksellisen haikean kuuloinen kappale, muuten sit aika perinteistä leppoisaa reggaeta. Parhaat: 400 Years, Stir It Up, No More Trouble

Stir It Up is the hit on this album. Filled with songs I hadn’t heard before. Definitely has a familiar Bob Marley sound and songwriting themes. Many songs feel a bit repetitive. Besides Stir It Up no other songs really stand out. The album is an easy listen, but not a lot of stellar songs. Not the first Bob Marley album I’d introduce a new listener to.

Will have to dig back in at a later date. Perfectly enjoyable to have on, but reggae isn't necessarily my speed and it all blended together.

concrete jungle- 6 slave driver- 6 400 years- 5 stop that train- 5 baby weve got a date- 5 stir it up- 6 kinky reggae- 5 no more trouble- 5 midnight ravers- 5

Maybe it’s just not a good fit for me but good lord so much of this sounds the same. It’s not even bad, just so similar to one another. That goes for previous reggae albums as well.

Very nice guitar solos on Concrete Jungle and Stir It Up, I didn’t know Reggae could go that hard. Honourable mention for Baby We've Got a Date too. Stir It Up is quite instrumentally impressive, even if nothing is going on lyrically. Most of the tracks on this album are quite dull. It’s only been saved for me by nice guitar work on many tracks and good songwriting on a few. Highlights: Concrete Jungle, Baby We've Got a Date, Stir It Up, High Tide or Low Tide

I think if you’ve heard one reggae album you’ve probably heard them all. It’s not bad, it doesn’t really have his big hits, it’s just good and not really exceptional.

No notes, a pleasant easy listen but pretty unremarkable. 6/10

Ever since I saw someone say that all reggae sounds the same, I can't help but agree. It's not necessarily a bad thing, there are definitely far worse genres of music. This is a bit more sombre than I had expected which was welcome. Frankly, I don't have a lot to say about the album other than appreciating the social commentary in the lyrics and some nice instrumental tracks (guitar on Baby We've Got a Date comes to mind). It's a good album but it's not making me a reggae fan anytime soon. Highlights: Concrete Jungle, Baby We've Got a Date (Rock It Baby), Stir It Up

Seems like a great album from one of the torch bearers of a genre I don't care much about.

I’m sure it’s fantastic but reggae ain’t my jam -

Hey look it's reggae! Enjoyable, chill, but not overly exciting. Baby, We've Got a Date is the pick.

I dont like that all the tracks fade to black, is a good sound and a nice mood tho

Fun and easy to listen to, even if a bit repetitive after awhile 6/10

bob marley me da un perezote

I like so many of these songs that aren’t the hits.

Hard not to find simple enjoyment from this. A pretty decent record

legal, reggae é bom e confortável

Reggae isn't really my thing and this wasn't anything special. Even Stir It Up couldn't stir anything in me. I am a lifeless husk. Embrace oblivion! Wait what was I doing?

This is my second or 3rd Marley album. It was pretty decent. I haven't found any reggae that has blown me away yet

Above average reggae, but that's what you get with Bob.

Cry for freedom, peace & joy <3

Not normally my thing but enjoyed it nonetheless

Nice I enjoyed this 3*

I was shooting metal ducks with an air gun while listemimng to this. Nice experimence and the music to it.

Reggae music is never going to get an amazing score from me, but this wasn't bad at all, so it deserves three stars I guess. It's really nice music to play in the background around a campfire, but I would never go out of my way to listen to it while working, driving, or just wanting some music to listen to.

It was fine, never heard anything off it other than Stir It Up. I enjoyed Concrete Jungle, added to my Gems and my liked songs.

It's fine but for an album that carries a strong message, I wish the music wasn't so laid back and had more energy. It might be due to the fact reggae is the music for drinking margaritas on the beach but still, it needed more.

Started off great but I soon got reggae fatigue and the songs lost all excitement for me. You can see why Bob Marley is influential but not really for me long term.

Not really into reggae but "stir it up" is a great song.

I like this album, but I don't think it's his best. I've only ever been a little lukewarm on Bob Marley anyway, this is the third album of his I've had on this list and three seems like a little much for me. The thing that I really like about this album in particular is the musicianship - the band is fantastic on this record. Really tight, really great. It's always strange to me to listen to Bob Marley because the music and the lyrics always seem so at odds - fun and happy sounding music with lyrics about oppression, poverty, racism, etc. It does make for interesting records, that's for sure. 3.25/5 for this one.

favorite track: concrete jungle. Overall score: 6,1/10

Reggae has never really been my jam. A little too repetitive in the rhythm section. However, Bob Marley is a legend and still gets some play time when I'm in the mood, it just happens rarely. Music that is very mood-specific is hard to review.

I like somme reggae here and now on a summer day. Had some good songs

lovely stuff

An enjoyable listen as ever

The vibe king returns. Impossible to go below 3* with Bob.

Not a reggae fan, but this is pretty listenable

A lot of the songs just sound the same. I didn't listen closely enough to the lyrics which likely would have affected my view of the album. As it is, I like the sound, couldn't listen to a lot of it at once though.

Another Bob Marley album that might as well be a greatest hits collection. Solid roots reggae here.

not really my genre i guess. i felt like i heard the same song with minor changes like 12 times

Liked this but I liked the songs that came on shuffle post album better

Not the most essential Bob Marley album - that would be Exodus. Quite a few too many cuts here are simply fine or ok but Stir It Up at least is one true reggae classic to file alongside Three Little Birds, Night Nurse, Reggae Reggae Sauce and Redemption Song.

Stir it up is a classic. Other than that, I don’t think I’ve ever heard any of these tunes. Not his best work, but still smooth and soulful.

Not a bad album but not my genre

Reggae isn’t really my thing, otherwise I might have rated this one star higher. Nevertheless, I can’t deny the artistry, gravitas and significance of much of this album. It’s great music, delivered with real commitment and virtuosity, and I can imagine opening all my windows and treating my neighbours to then thudding bass. I enjoyed the protest songs most.

Pretty ok reggae.

Decent enough, but ruined by middle class college kids who liked it in order to rebel against racist parents before becoming Tory bankers themselves. This is why you’ll find at least two copies in every used record store. Besides, Lee “Scratch” Perry is so much better

I’ve always loved that bass-line in Stir it Up. Some decent jams here. Actually sounds more sad than you’d expect from reggae. Overall, it’s deec.

3.5⭐️/5 [05.30.2026] 01.12.2026

Good music.

3.5 Not the best Bob but it was a lovely sunny morning to listen to classic reggae so I can’t complain too much!

It's fine.

6/10…reggae / dub

I am more of a pink floyd stoner myself

Imagine me with a cuppa nugs of sweet ganja, a garlic bread sammy from Cheba Hut, a hammock near NCAR parking lot overlooking Boulder, and this playing off of a little JBL speaker. That was a Thursday for me at 17. Absolute Cinema.

Really didn't mind it which surprised me! Fav song: Not sure

Good, but i certainly prefer Exodus.

Just a fairly enjoyable record from start to finish. Reggae isn’t my favorite, but there is a lot of polish here and nice production.

In college, I played in a short-lived band called The Spazzo Funk Monkeys. 'Stir it Up' was part of our catalogue. I thought we did an okay job as a 4-man band of drums, guitar and horns. All this to say this was my favorite song to play as a Funk Monkey and is without a doubt the strongest track on this album. Unfortunately the rest of the songs sound like politically minded filler in a career that pumped out some of the absolute best reggae. I'll probably never find my way back to this record again. Those Spazzo Funk Monkeys, however...

meh, decent

I think I dig High Tide Low Tide, that's a new one to me. Otherwise this just kinda washes over. It's kind, it's chill, it's warm, it's lilting.

Probably wouldn’t listen again, i found myself kinda bored…on the other hand, i can objectively get why people like this - solid 3

Had me grooving

Enjoyed this a lot but probably won't listen again. Not my genre

Enjoyable but struggled to stay focused on it.

It's definitely well made and pretty good, but do we need 3 Marley records? 2 maybe. This is the weakest of 3 and therefore gets the lowest rating from me.

++: Concrete Jungle, Stop That Train, Stir It Up, No More Trouble +: 400 Years, Baby We've Got a Date (Rock It Baby) +-: Slave Driver, Kinky Reggae, Midnight Ravers 5,8/10

Reggae is not my thing, so it all kinda sounds the same. Appreciated the lyrics and themes tho

Another perfectly fine reggae album 👍

This is typical Marley I feel like.

Meh. S'alright.

Sounds like every reggae song I've ever heard, which I assume is why it's so iconic. But not really into reggae so this ain't doin much for me.

6/10 - I feel like I’ve heard a lot do bob Marley songs yet none of them were in this album. I liked stir it up but the rest was just alright

classic shit

I knew "Stir It Up" and maybe recognized a bit of "Concrete Jungle" but otherwise didn't know this album. Like all Bob Marley I like it as background music, but this particular album didn't rise much above that.

It's alright. Easy listening and chilled. Not much variation. Stand out song - Stir it up

Thought I would like it more than I dod

Great start after the horrors of MM. Trailled a bit towards tuf end.

Chill as all get out. My rating here is more a comment on how I'm generally lukewarm on reggae as opposed to being lukewarm on Bob Marley

Not my favorite bob marley album, but still a good listen. Favorite track: Concrete jungle High tide or low tide

“Make love and not war” ☮️

Not my favorite reggae album.

I enjoyed it. I listen to Bob Marley from time to time, but rarely a full album. I find the music to be good to work to and relax to.

I liked it more than I thought I would, but still not my style of music.

you can always count on bob marley to deliver quality reggae at a quality price.

Reggae is not really my genre, and this was just kinda okay. I enjoyed the listen, but it all seemed pretty one-note to me. Probably won't listen again -- three stars.

Ech.

3/5. Not bad but similar to a few other album on here, I've struggled to connect to the music.

not a fan of reggae so i wasn't expecting to like it, but these tracks were good. there weren't any that i hated or disliked, but still overall not a huge fan

It's Bob Marley, classic reggae sound. Lyrics range from 'political' about typical rastafarian topics to love songs Best track - Baby We've Got a Date (but maybe i just recognise the riff, Ring of Fire?, similar but not)

It's a very good reggae album but there are fewer hooks that pull me in — just steady offbeat and one-drop rhythms to float on. The grooves are warm and consistent, the singing honest and true, but the songs tend to blend together more than they stand apart. It’s a vibe.

a record i have heard so much growing up. crazy!

Good stuff although not as good as Exodus

Steel guitar licks are fun and funky. Overall instrumentation is subdued but pleasant. Marley has great vocal intonation. Stir It Up is a highlight.

pretty good. B side does not compare to a side though. also that kinky reggae song is whack

Good reggae record. Some songs are great, others seem like written in the studio out of a jam. "Stir it up" is super enjoyable. The ones from Peter Tosh, I actually enjoyed them a lot, and got me into his career a little bit. I wouldn't consider a must, even it is a great record.

Good but not something I could listen to repeatedly

Was enjoyable

Reggae album. I don’t love reggae but it’s fine for what it is. 3/5

A couple excellent songs, but mostly songs that just exist.

Pretty much what I expect from a Bob Marley album- chill, upbeat, and makes me wish I was sitting on a beach instead of in front of my computer.

Nice reggae album

Reggae forever !! nice album but for sure not the best one of the King Bob Marley

Reggae is not necessarily my thing but this felt important.

I guess that's the best reggae there is. But still - not my jam. 50/100

it's good, but I don't think this is for me

Concrete Jungle 3.9/5 - chill vibes, guitar solo is my fav part Slave Driver: 3/5 - I find nothing interesting in the metody line, it’s just good 400 Years: 3.4/5 - not so bad Stop That Train: 3.3/5 - I like the verses, but chorus is too simple for me and make this song kind of boring Babe We’ve Got a Date (Rock it Baby): 2.9/5 - idk why but something in this irritates me Stir It Up: 3.8/5 - classic, but I find it monotonous tbh Kink Reggae: 2.5/5 - got tired while listening to this No More Trouble: 3.3/5 - that was okay, but still very repetitive Midnight Ravers: 2.6/5 - similiar case like most songs in this album High Tide Or Low Tide: 3/5 - lack of strong moments imo All Day All Night: 2.9/5 - lyrics is so simple, but not in a good way unfortunately Overall rating: 3.14/5 I think some songs might sound better if I listened to them separetely. But absorbing the entire album at once make them just.. boring.

I've never expanded my musical knowledge before, and beginning with reggae was probably not that smart. I enjoyed the album overall and I am happy to have added it in my register, though I can say it's not my genre. (And I can't give Bob Marley anything but praise)

It’s a very beautiful album, there were a couple tracks that were skips on my second listen. It left me wanting more, which can be a god thing, but it’s why it’s a 3 instead of a 4.

Pretty average reggae album with a half decent story

This beats the absolute crap out of that Best Of Bob Marley album that everyone has - way groovier, cleverer, weirder and more expressive than I ever knew this band to be! It's a classic example of reggae and the socially-themed lyrics make it a great document of a culture, all presented through a tight collection of great pop songs. Musically, Barrett's basslines really stand out, effortlessly linking those signature rhythms with the gorgeous vocal harmonies. A very good example of something that doesn't usually turn me on! Favourite tracks: Concrete Jungle, Stop That Train, Stir it Up (major breakthrough for me as a young bassist!), Kinky Reggae

The sound is there but the songs aren’t quite yet.

Marley’s first large-scale reggae outing is every bit as strong as his later outings, Exodus included. This is a full experience, no unnecessary filler or extended intros. I can’t pretend to love reggae, I can more sit on the bench of ‘respecting’ it, if you will. It’s one of a few genres that I can see people liking, but can’t see myself listening to of my own free will. Exodus is somewhat an exception to this, I can get genuine enjoyment out of that record. And this, whilst not as much of a behemoth (and I don’t have the luxury of owning the LP), still carries its own punch. I don’t want to relegate this to ‘nice to put on in the background’ (even if it is), so I will conclude by reiterating my previous reggae-associated points: respectable, there’s no doubt about it, but not necessarily for me.

Again, a seminal album. I respect the work, but I am not a big reggae fan.

Not sure my ear is able to discern between different reggae: pleasant nut all sounds the same to me. Easy listening 3/5

Easy Sunday listen. Peaked where it started with concrete jungle

Its another reggae album. Not really memorable for me. A couple familiar songs. Plus a star for those

Didn't really grab me, I guess. Quite a few songs felt interchangeable.

This was pretty good. I like it better than Exodus.

Enjoyed listening to it, very soothing but also nothing really stood out to me. Flows well as background music but wouldn't really listen to it on purpose. I can understand why some people might like it tho.

FOR Bob Marley And The Wailers, it's a bit disappointing. There is still some good reggae on here, as well as meaningful lyrics. I just expected better, that's all. Favorite Song: "Stop That Train".

no doubt some of this is beautiful music but after a listening through a few songs, it can feel a bit of the same but Reggae does that to me in general so probably not specific to this album. Stir it up is timeless

Classic Marley

It wasn’t super interesting to me but ofc the beats great cause it wouldn’t be Bob Marley if they weren’t

My first experience with reggae and I can see the appeal, however I’m not sure how much its my thing. Some great tracks I really enjoyed while others felt boring and redundant. The last two were my faves, High Tide or Low Tide and All Day All Night.

I ten album potwierdził moje nastawienie.

Bob Marley. The begining. The root of all the Reggae in the World. Although I want to give bad score just for the memes I can't. There is a reason why he became the Classic and still it's not peak as he will produce even better albums after this one.

I did not use a private session for Spotify. For me, reggae was always background music for a warm beach with a ocean breeze coming in. Or maybe background music for a bunch white guys in shorts, smoking pot and playing hacky sack. This is a fine album for either of those activities, but I will stick to the former.

This was decent. Definitely one of the better albums I’ve heard so far.

I’ve vacillated on this album’s rating, but I decided to sleep on it and rate it in the morning. Come morning, I couldn’t remember anything of the album. So I’ll say that for me it’s good, but not memorable.

Helt skönt album, inte jätte memorable. Plus för kreativ album art

Maybe because its raining today but just not feeling it. A couple of stand outs (stir it up in particular) but it generally passed me by. A high 3.

I ended up being disappointed. Nothing here is poor, but nothing matches the brilliance of the opening three tracks. And that's not being racist, some of my best friends are Rastafarian, well I saw one on the bus once. It's bordering a four due to the opening triplet. It loses something when Bob isn't on lead vocals. But it remains at a high three.

Chill album, Bob Marley er nice. Ikke helt min stil.

Not into reggae. Clearly an important record with an important message, but I find the songs repetitive. Not for me.

reggae continues to not be my thing

- Wat soll man noch sagen? Entspannt.

Vacation Vibe Sounds a bit repetitive for me Not bad but not too appealing for me

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Procrastinated for a couple days on this one since I had listened to another Bob Marley album. Not the biggest fan of Reggae so this one felt like more of a chore to listen to, but someones review pointed out the band as a whole and not just Bob, so I honed in on the band for most of the album and it made the listening experience more tolerable. The band itself is absolutely locked in with playing and sounds exceptional. I gave Exodus a 3, I'd give this one a 3 as well based on the band.

I enjoy reggae quite a bit, but at the same time it can be hit or miss. Catch a Fire was a bit of a mixed bag. The reggae beats were so chill and easy going. When the lyrics were political, I wanted Bob Marley to drag all the white colonizers!!!! When the songs weren't political, I found myself losing focus. Starting the album off so strong, only to end it lackluster didn't help matters. Still, a middle-of-the-road 3 ought to do it.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against reggae and I certainly don't dislike the genre, but most of the time I find it to just be okay. But Bob Marley always finds a way to make me enjoy it. It's easy to listen to, relaxing, and gives a very approachable glimpse into Jamaica. He doesn't shy away from tough topics either, so all the more intriguing that he's able to nestle that into such a chill vibe.

Catch A Fire is a pretty good album. I honestly never thought that with the few reggae albums that i have currently listened to, i found some pretty good sounding ones. This one is probably the best of them though (at least so far). The instruments here were the most extravagant sounding without going too far and becoming annoying. I also think that Marley's vocals are perfect for these kinds of songs. My only problem with this album is it keeps things too consistent to the point of being overly samey as to where i had trouble picking out a best and worst song. I still do think this album is a pleasant and enjoyable listen. Best Song: Slave Driver Worst Song: Kinky Reggae

High Tide Or Low Tide Midnight Ravers Kinky Reggae Concrete Jungle 400 Years

Great album but too depressing to listen regularly

I wish there was the original recording of this album cause the low end has a massive spike in volume that has some static in certain songs. Bothered me through out the entire album. Gotta be in the mood to listen to anything with Bob Marley. Probably would be more tolerable if I were stoned.

Surprised how bland this one felt

Reggae is something I enjoy listening to here or there, but a full album of it does not excite me. This is some of the best I've heard and it still doesn't quite get me going

It's okay. Found this album to have a gospel vibe and the reggae wasn't too heavy.

Everything he does is beautiful. Love it.

Maybe it was the atmosphere but listening to this album while walking through heavy snowfall wasn't the vibe.

boutta go to the beach and smoke one

Same song for 44 mins

I feel like out of all the musical genres to exist, reggae is the most middle of the lane genre of them all for me personally. I don’t actively dislike reggae, but I don’t really enjoy it. Being the figurehead of the genre, Bob Marley is the epitome of this feeling. I respect the dude. I respect everything he did. I respect the way he’s able to subtlety inject political commentary into his smooth rhythms and have them coexist with some nice love songs. I respect that calming tropical vibe each track has. But this isn’t stuff that I find myself coming back to. Most of the songs sound similar to each other and the island-like vibe gets tiring after a while. Bob Marley and reggae to me are two sides of the same coin. I don’t have too many negative feelings that might influence my opinion unlike other genres (country, rap and hip-hop specifically), but after the final track finished, I don’t see myself listening to any of it again. Favorite track: Stir It Up Other hits: Concrete Jungle, Kinky Reggae, No More Trouble, 400 Years

Bob Marley-no surprises.

I’ve never really listened to Reggae before, but these songs were really good. I only know Bob Marley’s top songs so I enjoyed hearing more :) Still don’t think its exactly what id listen to frequently.

I don't know why i'm surprised, but really impressed lyrically by this album. I wouldn't claim that reggae is a genre I'm particularly interested in, but I really enjoyed my time with this. Only complaint is the personal preference of tempo changes, but that's not something to be expected in the genre. Another 7 that I will have to give 3 stars.

Welp, on my first album I get a perennially loved album… that is just “okay” in my eyes. It started strong for me, especially the songs focused on the need for social change, but toward the latter half of the album the songs became a bit repetitive to me.
