Reviews (page 10 of 13)

it's good but not really my thing

Stir It Up is eternally divine

I don’t really like reggae, but this was pretty good. Fav: Concrete Jungle

Couple of good songs but nothing that really stands out

A tad samey but especially liked Kinky Reggae and No More Trouble.

Didn't change my life but I enjoyed the ride.

Not a marley fan, but probably the one I enjoy most.

Don't like reggae. This certainly didn't change my opinion. Never understood the cult status of Bob Marley. As an other reviewer here put it: "Not exactly horrible, but I just don't know why I'm supposed to give a damn."

This is good background music on a beach or at a pool. Maybe at a tiki bar.

I'm generally not a fan of reggae but this album had a few bangers - some I've never heard before. I just find that a lot of the songs tend to sound the same and it gets boring after a while.

It felt very comforting, not really my style.

First dip of my toes into real reggae, and I enjoyed it

Typisch Bob Marley. Schöner Hintergrund Chor

I'm not a huge reggae fan, but this was nice background music. Relaxing enough, and I didn't skip anything.

It’s reggae! Not really a fan but this was alright. Will probably never listen again. Not to say it’s bad it isn’t something I gravitate towards.

Varmaan paras reggae-levy tähän mennessä! 3/5

Rejected

I've never been a big reggae kinda guy so this album was kinda lost on me. I always kinda feel like it's just the same sort of slow beat in the background with lyrics over top. Musically it doesn't feel like there's that much variation which leaves a lot of emphasis on the lyrics. The lyrics were solid, political as Marley's often are, just didn't really make me go wow this is incredible. Reggae has always kinda just been background music for me and this album did not change that.

songs do sound a bit the same & blend together, but he does a great job with lyrics. heavy topics but with an upbeat, reggae vibe

most of the record is a bit monotonous but concrete jungle is so fucking good

pretty groovy

Reggae, -> 3

I think this would've been a 4 if I was listening to this in my garden in June, rather than in the middle of winter in a dark office. Concrete Jungle and High Tide or Low Tide are good.

This is all one song/jam session. It's not bad, but not as revolutionary as one might think.

Some good stuff here like Stir It Up and High Tide or Low Tide but it was a little too much of a laid back reggae sound for me. I prefer more upbeat reggae. I'd have to be in a particular mood for this slower stuff.

I guess the only Bob Marley I've listened to is from his Legend album. Pretty much all of this was new to me. Not bad. I don't generally get too excited about reggae but this was good.

He's fun and got a great voice. It was a pretty good album.

Регги не мой стиль, но в целом приятная музыка, для фона в каком-нибудь кафе прекрасно подойдёт

I know the Bob Marley Hits, but have never listened to an album. So far it’s reggae. Nothing against Reggae, but I don’t see the excitement around it. “High tide or low tide” is a stand out track. I like the groove and melody. It was a good album, but in general I wouldn’t seek out Reggae on a regular basis.

Not usually my cup of tea but happy to give it a listen. Better than I was expecting and a couple of songs stood out but just found myself getting more bored with it the longer it went on. Another where perhaps the circumstances of listening have an effect on the enjoyment of it.

Plenty of groove and a relaxed feel. However, I just felt that it is very repetitive, every song sounds the same.

It was pleasant. Reggae hits the same as funk or jazz for me, in that it's all about the feel, and lyrics kind of fall to the background. It's not Marley's best work, but it's still a good groove.

I don't like it, but it doesn't bother me, so I suppose it's okay

Same old reggae

Day294 - other than concrete jungle and stir it up i didn’t really care for

Concrete jungle, high tide or low tide and stir it up are all real good. The rest is kinda boring and sound mostly the same. Still very easy to listen to

Liked a couple of tracks I hadn't heard before, some of the rest fairly average.

I started out happily listening, but felt drained and irritated by the end. Too repetitive, and hitting the same notes for a whole album. Beautiful and confident voices though, and great lyrical content of course. And hot guys too.

Decent.

This is a nice album, I especially enjoyed “High tide or low tide”, which was new to me (i think because it doesn’t have the staccato reggae guitar that I just can’t learn to love), but it’s not one that I’d head back to anytime soon.

Bob is chill/ Legend remains his best - this pretty good.

I didn't hate it, but all of the songs sounded the same by the time it was over. 3/5

I like Bob Marley & the Wailers. Just didn't feel like I connected with it like I do their other work. Idk, maybe I'd rate it differently on another day.

I'm not expecting much from this that I didn't get from the other Marley records on this list. There's no denying his artistry and social commentary, but sometimes I feel that if you've heard one reggae song, you've heard them all. Let's see... Alright, it's good, but I stand by my original assessment. Other than Toots & The Maytals, this is pretty much the only reggae I can stand for an entire album, but I'd still rather listen to something else.

I like a reggae song on occasion. There's like a bakers' dozen on here, so way too many for me. 3 stars just 'cuz it's Bob.

Third Bob Marley album in as many weeks. It’s not bad, it just does nothing for me. I nod my head along every now and then, but mostly I wait for it to end.

Great album. I liked the slow pace. There were also some songs I hadn't heard on there before.

Fave song was high tide! First timing listening

Have to be in the right mood to enjoy.

this was fine, some songs are catchy and vibe-y but a whole album of reggae definitely gets tiresome

Nice enough

Chill but not for me

Pretty good.

me copó más de lo que pensé que me iba a copar pero te imaginás que yo arranque a escuchar reggae??? 7.5/10

I liked some of the songs but probably won’t revisit

Albumi #58, 24.09.2024 Bob Marley & The Wailersin viides studioalbumi

Good, production is nostalgic and love the rhythm section, bass and drums stands out. Also love the vocals and lyrics, solid album but not standout for me personally so I will rate 3 stars.

Ok, but bores me a bit after a few songs

This can easily just fade in the background. could i write poetry to this? n

Not a bad showing, but not his best.

Way better than I expected! Is it fair to say Bob Marley fans have kind of ruined Bob Marley? (And yes, by “Bob Marley fans” I mean college bro types.)

Good vibes

I still don't like reggae, but this was ok compared to the last Bob Marley album I heard.

I kind of like Baby We’ve Got a Date, Stir It Up, No More Trouble

Nice, although I don't particularly enjoy this style.

Enjoyed this, 3.5

When I hear Afro-Caribbean music, I am always so amazed by how similar each genre sounds to Southern Black/Creole American music styles like (stomp/clap) Gospel, Blues, Zydeco, Country, Fife & Drum, etc... Hypnotic background vocals reminiscent of gospel/barbershop quartets, guitar playing that at some times sounds like a steel guitar, laid back drums and bass parts that keep an easy pace, and meticulous keyboard/clav/organ playing that take center stage. Talk about diasporic interconnectedness. Awesome vinyl sleeve btw 3/5

OkGood

It's Reggae, it's inoffensive.

Didn't love it as much as I thought I would, but I can hear how good this is. Good for a mellow afternoon. 3/5

Not had enough reefer to think this is revolutionary

Classic

Concrete Jungle // High Tide Or Low Tide //

3.5 rounded down i can’t really see myself revisiting this a whole lot but it’s fun ! highlights: concrete jungle, slave driver, no more trouble (aug 28 2024)

Of the Marley I’ve heard, this one has more interesting guitar parts that almost sound 70’s American influenced. Stir it up is a standout and album is a vibe overall.

A great album. All vibe.

Alright reggae album, nothing super stands out, maybe all very samey. 3* Highlights: stir it up

Bob is always welcome but this one didn't catch fire ironically. Sounded like a late stage album where the sound was locked in but the hits have dried up a bit.

All reggae always seem to have the exact same tempo. A lot of the songs on this album seem to feel the same, too. There never feels like there's any variation from one song to another. Having said that, this album still had Marley as the factor that separates it from most other reggae works. But even with Marley, the songs did not stick out for me as much as I was hoping. Top tracks: "Stir It Up," "400 Years"

I don't know, I just didn't find this album as captivating as the other two Wailers albums, even though this one is more revered than Natty Dread. Maybe it's because this was one of the first albums to really put reggae or Bob Marley and/or the Wailers on the map. It just felt all a little too much of the same. Their other albums have more tempo changes and different stylings. I felt like I was hearing the same song half the time. Granted the lyrics changed and those lyrics were often very powerful. Stop that Train felt a bit different to start the song; intriguing. Baby We've Got a Date was also a bit more uptempo but it sounded a bit hokey. Stir it Up had the coolest opening of any song - some real nice wah pedal effects on the guitar. Maybe that's why it's such a classic. All in all, it's probably a 3.5, maybe even a 4, but I'm rating it lower to clearly distinguish this rating from my other 2 ratings of their albums.

Non so, Exodus mi era piaciuto di più. Molto bella "Concrete Jungle"

Nice and relaxing

Decent listen but not my favourite genre

I guess I like this one compared to the others

i have to be in the right mood for reggae, but this is pretty good.

Nothing wrong with a bit of reggae, it's groovy and you feel incredibly cool listening to it. I do find after a while that I might appreciate a change of pace or a different dynamic.

bopped to deluxe edition of this at work and it repeated and I kept bopping without noticing. solid album

Another roots reggae record. Despite it's cultural importance to Jamaica, I fear it's over-represented here compared to other Jamaican genres of similar importance, such as first-wave ska, dub, dancehall. I suppose no Jamaican artists are as big as Marley, but you really only need Exodus. Catch A Fire is fine.

Really enjoyed the first half of the album. Would give 3.5 if able. Think I like Exodus a bit more. Like High Tide a lot.

A nice sound. Only one, though.

I feel like this album is a good album, but I am expecting a Bob Marley album and it fell short of the one we listened to a few weeks ago. The story behind how this album came to be was interesting though :)

Laid back sound, demonstrates bob Marley's range well. But does blend a bit into one. 3.5*

bib,l,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, bib marley...... @@@ 22222 bub a. bob marley!!!!! %%%%%%%%bor marley... the album comprises, of songs.. logn and short... big and small... matters not..... relax.......take a chill pill.........the DEVILS lettuce heh,,,,,,, marhuanaaaaaaaaaaa.............. blib........ one life....... one smile........ dancing away in the night....... and feeel aaaalright......... bob ................bov. bo kaf 400 yearss..

More like a 3.5 - great music, strong socio-political message without being hamfisted and some excellent singles (Stir it Up). Exodus and some other albums are better and more cohesive, though

Laid back, chill and easy going album. First reggae album I've ever heard. The instrumentation is sparse but the melodies and beat are infectious and catchy. Goes best with weed.

Chill vibes lovely

Certainly plenty listenable. I'm not a reggae fan, though, so I can't give it more than 3.

2013 remastered version. Few great songs would be nice for a dynamic shift between tracks. Last two tracks (Jamaican Version) are as good as the best tracks.

No es el estilo de música que más me llama para escuchar en mi día a día pero es un disco que me pareció entretenido para escuchar. Deben ser una banda muy divertida para ver y aprecio que todos los temas hayan sido grabados en vivo.

Preferred Natty Dread to this one I think

The band is phenomenal, some classic tracks here and have on playlists. Not an album I'll return to. I prefer to live reggae, it is just hits harder.Would have loved to have seen this band in their prime. I'm giving the album 3 stars, but I'd fight you too see it live.

Bob Marley at his best, less of the hits and more politically charged songs. Liked it but still not really a fan of reggae, the beat really doesn’t match the tone of the songs.

For someone who doesn't like Reggae I've annoyingly found myself at many concerts given friends' music tastes. Once left a Damian Marley half way through as i thought it was about to die of boredom. My mine gripe is the lack of diversity in songs. Go through this album, listen to the first 2 seconds (the intro percussion beat), and then skip to 1 minute or so. All 9 tracks are virtually indistinguishable. Don't understand it. 2.5*

it was good reggae. idk much more to say, i'll have to go back and read through the lyrics to try to pick up on more

This is the ....third? fourth? Regaee album?? I just don't like it.

Very easy listening. Reggae isn’t my favorite genre so i don’t think the album will stick with me very much. It was pretty good though. 6/10

3.5 stars. Another Bob Marley album, another struggle to pay attention to what he's actually talking about while the music sounds easy going and groovy. Some titles are very distinct, such as "Slave Driver" VS "Baby Got a Date." Simple music with an interesting perspective.

Another Bob Marley straight away. I preferred Natty Dread but this was okay. I still dislike reggae. Fave Track: Stir It Up Rating:

I didn't have any expectations when this popped up, I was genuinely happy with how much I enjoyed it, I don't think it will be on my rotation or anything though. I could see myself revisiting it when in the mood.

Some great songs, especially Stir it up and Stop that train, but I disliked a few other songs so in balance, we've got a 3.

Not my favorite Bob Marley album, but there are some good songs on it.

Wasn’t really excited to listen to another Reggae album, but a number of these tunes we quite good.

dopo un po' mi pare ripetitivo, però è sempre Marley

purtroppo un po’ monotono, ma molto carino. molto molto orecchiabile.

Belle ma tutte uguali

Non so, Exodus mi era piaciuto di più. Molto bella “Concrete Jungle”

3.5 pretty good reggae

Works for me. A little Bob Marley now and then never hurt anyone. Enjoy!

Perfectly fine.

Pleasant listen. I’m not overly into reggae but it was enjoyable to listen to in the background. Standout: stir it up.

Good album cuts on this one which i feel that they can be pretty hit or miss on. If you like Bob Marley or reggae you’ll like this album (3.5/5)

I don’t remember liking Bob Marley this much, but this record is lovely. A relaxing, soulful listen. Pleasantly surprised twice in a row after some absolute shockers. 3 stars because I can’t imagine choosing to listen to it again, really.

Nice and jammy (especially on a day that feels summery) but not stand outs from Marley’s music

Unfortunately I think reggae has a low ceiling for me as I can’t really tell the difference between great reggae and mid reggae as it’s more just for the vibes, mon.

Wasnt high listening to this but some songs were very good

Great lyrics, but I just don’t love reggae.

Side 2 stronger than side 1. The two Peter Tosh written tracks on side 1 were a nice change of pace. I like Bob just fine, but a lot of his stuff sounds the same to me. A greatest hits album is more my speed for an artist like this. The recent Bob Marley: One Love movie (on Paramount, as Jackson would say) is well worth watching.

I owned a Bob Marley record in high school, but it wasn’t this one. And reggae mostly sounds the same to me. Tough to imagine giving a reggae record anything other than a 3: it’s pleasant but I don’t find myself returning to it.

This was okay. Not my type of music.

This was a relaxing listen. Good album, although I think I’ve come to realize I prefer a handful of Bob songs sprinkled in a mellow-ish mix vs going front to back with a full album.

- Kinky reggae oh yeah - Some good chill vibes, great for being outside during the summer

- always a good vibe with Bob - makes me want to sit on a beach

Bob's lyrics and vocals are always so good. Plus, the meaning to these song when he wrote them, we're/ kinda are so on point

Good reggae.I actually didn't know almost all of these songs.

I probably wouldn't rush to listen again but it felt like quite a chilled album. I didn't not like it.

I listened to this a lot in high school, and is probably the album that I've known best so far. I'd say I felt pretty whelmed by it this time. I love Concrete Jungle, that was my favorite in high school and is still the standout for me. The guitar tone on that is excellent. Stir It Up and Catch That Train are classics and fun to sing along to. No More Trouble has a cool, dark sound that I dig. Kinky Reggae was not great, and the album loses 10 points for the line "She had brown sugar all over her booga-wooga". I'd pull songs for a playlist, but wouldn't listen to the whole album again. A album cover because apparently it was hinged and the zippo actually opens, which is neat. 6.5/10

I listened to this one late, so it didn't get as much attention as I always give. It was OK, the songs felt a little samey. I liked "Stir it up" the most. I think this just isn't quite my sound, I probably wouldn't ever put this on and listen to it on my own. 5/10

I liked it better than the other Bob Marley album

I liked this more than Exodus

Very chilled but suffers in the same way most reggae suffers, in that its rhythm is very repetitive so the songs can get a little samey

I bit too cloying and poppy compared to some of their other stuff which I enjoy more. Still solidly enjoyable though.

not much to say but it was enjoyable

Cool album. Historically and politically significant. Dusty and groovy. Didn't quite excite me personally, but I appreciate it especially as a vibe album.

Reggae's never been a strong suit of mine, and while this album did seem to drag into a lot of very similar songs (of which the messages were lost on me not having come from the period of time it was designed for), the musicianship and creativity on display here is clearly incredible for its time, and worth a listen if you've got the time

Slow grooves mixed with anguish that fuse into a dirge-like sound, which is not a combination I considered to exist in this specific way, but I’m able to enjoy it all the same.

Always love hanging out with Bob Marley. Fewer stand out tracks on this album but very much enjoyed. 3.5 stars.

Classic Marley

Having never listened to a Bob Marley & the Wailers album before I was pleasantly surprised. The chill mood of this album that it outputs leaves you surprised when you start listening to the lyrics of the album and the political ideas that they are communicating. I enjoyed it.

Can't deny what Bob Marley did for popularising reggae but this album isn't my favourite

It's a good, easy listening album, if you like reggae. Had some classics on there.

Ein paar Killer Tracks, aber auch viel Standardreggae. 3-4

bob marley, is good

Nice background music, not annoying, easy listening. Not complex or intriguing.

I appreciate Bob Marley and the social message in his lyrics, but I don't think this album connected with me unfortunately

Not bad, there is always time for a little Bob Marley. I am sure I will hear this again.

An ok album

Not the best Album by Bob Marley & The Wailers. A few classics at the end of the album, but overall just OK

Concrete jungle Stir it up No more trouble

Super chill, but halfway got in a discussion with a janitor about his whole life. Cool guy.

Nothing extremely noteworthy on this album. Solid, although Very repetitive. But I guess that's reggae. Standout tracks : No More Trouble, Midnight Ravers

Not for me, but that’s fine.

Not bad. I can appreciate for what it is, but overall not really my thing

concrete jungle

No More Trouble, Midnight Ravers!!

Concrete Jungle - A

Reggae is really not my genre but there was no song I actively disliked and the influence this record had is clear throughout. Some real standouts like Stir it up, Concrete Jungle, 400 Years and High Tide or Low Tide as well.

Reggae will never be my jam, but it's Bob Marley so it's not bad.

Bob Marley/The Wailers Catch a Fire 68.13 Concrete Jungle(79) Slave Driver(67) 400 Years(54) Stop That Train(70) Baby We've Got A Date (Rock It Baby)(54) Stir It Up(82) Kinky Reggae(65) No More Trouble(60) Midnight Ravers(63) High Tide or Low Tide (82) All Day All Night(65)

Nothing really stood out on the album for me.

Victim of reggae not being my thing. A lot of it just sounds the same to me unfortunately.

Like - Stir It Up -Kinky Reggae

I'm not impressed.

The only song on this album I had heard before was Stir It Up. The entire album is pretty good, but not sure it's something I'd come back to often. I prefer Exodus as an album but even with that album, I tend to prefer listening to Legend.

Well there’s a coincidence - this album arriving on my list in the week the Bob Marley film “One Love” is released and I’m going to see later. Must admit I wasn’t aware of the album before as my knowledge of Bob Marley is pretty sketchy. I bought his more famous albums on vinyl at the time but was a little underwhelmed. At that time I preferred Prince Buster, Linton Kwesi Johnson and at risk of upsetting the purists UB40 and the like. No doubt at all that Bob Marley was a very inspirational musician and lyricist who was taken much too soon. With new ears and a little more mature in my musical tastes I listened to the album in full. It was a great listen through headphones and I’m sure that I will visit it again as I’m sure once I’ve seen the film, I’ll be going through the full Bob Marley catalog.

I’ve never been a huge reggae fan but the more I listen, the more I get into it. It’s easy to see how Marley and crew catapulted the regional genre onto the international stage.

I've never heard a bad Bob Marley album

Reggae on a cold winter's day

Pleasant. Nowt special.

Like that Marley sound. Future albums have this hits.

This album was okay.

Not my genre, but I liked this.

listened 2x.. good album 3.4/5

A good entry from the non-Hartford Wailers :)

Shoutout Steve for his favourite biopic. Surprisingly few known hits on this one, just Stir it Up.

kinky reggae ! - 3.5

enjoyable

This is great chilled out music. Bob Marley is the king of this kind of sound. I found myself feeling very relaxed and drifting out daydreaming while listening.

I like Bob Marley quite a bit. But this isn't one of his better albums.

I prefer this album than Natty Dread. The production sound more fleshed out, precise, and cleaner.

Bob Marley. Not really a huge Bob Marley fan. I find that I can’t listen to too much reggae at a time. Let’s jump into this. The cover is bizarre. Is that a garbage can top? What is that? Concrete Jungle - yep it sounds like reggae. It’s fine. 2/5 Slave Driver - I don’t know why, but this one is good. 3/5 400 Years - Maybe it’s the power to people lyrics? I like this one better 3/5 Stop That Train - kinda what I think of when I think of Bob Marley. 2/5 Baby We’ve Got A Date (Rock It Baby)- I think I like the political songs better. There’s not a huge vibe difference between them though. 2/5 Stir It Up - ok I know this one. Was wondering when I’d hit one of his hits. 3/5 Kinky Reggae - this is a good one, maybe my favorite one so far. I can’t tell if I’ve heard this one before or not. That’s my problem with reggae. Still 3/5, might go for 4/5. We’ll see. No More Trouble - there’s definitely some sounds on this album that are cool but I don’t know what are the instruments. I’m liking the 2nd half better than the first. It seems more varied. 3/5 Midnight Ravers - Songs are blending into other songs. The album has its own groove that only emerges upon listening to the whole thing in one sitting. Fun stuff. 3/5 High Tide Or Low Tide - eh. It’s fine. Suddenly I’m at the point where this is too much. 2/5 All Day All Night - Duet! The Wailers say hey can we sing. Finishes off pretty good. 3/5 I don’t have a big thing to say other than reggae live is pretty awesome when you’re inebriated. Also, the album format works better than the song format for reggae. It seems to enhance the vibe the longer it goes on. You just can’t do that with a single song. This is a pretty good vibe. 3/5

Pretty great. I'm familiar with Bob Marley from the Legend album, but this was a great trip through more of his work. The whole album is full of very good work.

Reggae jam pretty cool pretty solid chill fun dude nice jams to it slow. 3/5

I like Bob Marley, but come on… the music is not that special. Another genre that is more popularity, less substance. 3 for my pacifist stoner friends, who I love.

If you like reggae, then you'll love this. I just don't like reggae.

Reggae del bueno. Retrotrae a momentos que es mejor no comentarlos aquí...

Reggae del chill. Tampoco he podido verle mucho más, es relajante pero tampoco me da ese plus para subirle la nota.

There’s no questioning the social and cultural impact Marley made on the world. His lyrics are powerful and beautiful. Reggae as a music style, though, is something I struggle to listen to an entire album’s worth at once.

Bob Marley very much knows how to make poignant cultural statements with simply pleasant music backing it

Dookie

Love Bob never listened to this whole album. It was great.

Es geht doch nichts über das Original!

Quite good, I didn't finished to hear the complete album

At 44 mins it seemed longer. Well produced and love how fat the bass sounds. Good debut. Only a 3 as not many stand outs.

Classic Bob. Great chill Music but all the songs sound the same.

Classic Bob Marley & The Wailers, including the great "Stir It Up", and also "Kinky Reggae".

Ima big reggae guy, but really find most of this record a snoozer

Zzzzzz….so boring. If I want to listen to Bob Marley I’ll put on Legend.

Like it - and while several members of my family listen to reggae almost exclusively - to me it's good background music. __________________________________________ 🎧 Number of albums reviewed: 10 🎧 Number of albums left to review: 991 🎧 Number of albums that I found relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 3 🎧 Number of albums that I *might* include in mine later on: 5 🎧 Number of albums that I will certainly *not* include in mine: 2

I like other Bob Marley albums better.

7/10 Fun listen with great standouts, a few songs I didn’t really care for

Nice vibe for a chill day

Like all Bob Marley it’s easy to listen to but boring. The songs always stay in the exact same place. I get why in this instance but I still hate music like that typically. Rating: 2.7

Non uno dei suoi migliori, ma ancora godibile

It's all right, but have to be in a specific mood for it

p290. 1973. 3 stars. Well done of its kind and some decent tunes, but reggae just leaves me cold. On the plus side, its short.

decent album, but reggae gets pretty repetitive

Not bad. I’d give this 3 stars.

Good reggae for sure!

Some great songs. Not Marley’s best work. 3/5

Catchy and easy to listen too even if it does start to all sound kind of similar.

This is definitely an album that you can just vibe to, but paying close attention to the lyrics makes for a much richer experience. The message of songs like “Concrete Jungle,” which talks about alienation and the struggle to survive in the rat race of capitalism, and “Slave Driver” and “400 Years,” which talk about the inter-generational scars of slavery and racial violence, are just as relevant now as they were in 1973. The music can get a bit repetitive at times, but there’s also a ton of great musicianship on the album (the guitar solo on “Stir It Up” has shades of Hendrix—though, controversially, it seems this was done by session musicians brought in by the label to do overdubs after initial recording). It’s also interesting to hear the very obvious influences reggae had on the British punk movement in the 70s, both in terms of music and political messaging. I enjoyed this album and appreciate its historical importance and influence. I’m not sure it’s something I’d listen to all the time, though. I think it’s a good album for people just getting into Marley/reggae because the album is an interesting mix of politics, sex, drugs, and rock n roll and covers the breadth of his music.

Bass überraschend präsent und vielseitig. Harmonien typisch Reggae-langweilig. Stimme toll.

Solid Reggea album.

-FINALLY some bob marley and the wailers -love his voice i’m So excited for this -im going to be honest im spacing out through a lot of this because its comforting background music -seriously tho i have always loved all of bob marleys stuff with the wailers -all these songs are filling me with such JOY! -overall i did enjoy listening to this -i am tho going to give this 3 stars simply because i have heard better from bob marley and the wailers

1. 3.5/5 2. 3.5/5 3. 3/5 4. 3.5/5 5. 3/5 6. 3.5/5 7. 3/5 8. 3/5 9. 3.5/5 = 3.27

This version of Stir It Up feels kinda slow. I guess slow is alright for reggae. "Alright" sums up my feelings about this album.

sounds like a best of album - though being a regular one and except for some songs it's definitely catchy starting from the first listening.

Really liked No More Trouble but there's quite a bit of filler for a short album. Could be a 3

Well it’s definitely Bob Marley. A very solid reggae album though not my favorite material I’ve heard from him. Best song: Midnight Ravers

Obviously one of the most popular, if not the most popular, reggae artists of all time. Great album, if not pretty same-y in the latter half.

Not a big Reggae fan anymore, so I only enjoyed stir it up. But since I was a big fan as a teenager it still gets three stars

probably very good. probably very fun to play this music. I get tired of it quickly. besides not being big on Bob Marley this music is for me impossible to separate from the unknowingly conservative faux hippies that like it. I bet the political side is interesting if you can do that. I can't concentrate on it long enough to think about its context in its own era. music: hated. (⌐▨_▨)

I wonder if there are a lot of Bob Marley records on this list. Like many white guys, I mostly just know Marley via greatest hits collections or whatever. This album has (I think) just the one song that is usually on those? Anyway I thought this one was real nice to listen to as a whole.

A really Nice slow reggae-album. I really liked the song High tide or Low tide

Greatest reggae but I’m sort of over it

It was fine.

B- Concrete Jungle 3 Slave Driver 3 400 Years 3 Stop That Train 3 Baby We've Got a Date (Rock It Baby) 2 Stir It Up 3 Kinky Reggae 4 No More Trouble 3 Midnight Ravers 3 This was okay, definitely worse than Exodus.

I don't feel like I can fairly rate Bob Marley

Ok. Never really heard it before. Might need another listen. Not as many 'hits' as I was expecting.

pretty standard bob marley reggae affair i think it would’ve been crazy good at the time though

Like reggae and Marley but idk if he’s good at making albums

Nice listen on a sunny day but I’m just not massive on reggae albums would be great live 6.8/10

Much better album than the previous one by Bob Marley on this list. Still, very much so not a fan of reagge, but at list it was a slightly nice experience. Nevertheless, I'm glad it's over.

He knew we were going to someday be reviewing this album when he titled that song “midnight ravers”

I get that this is great music but to me it’s just a bit boring. So sorry.

Catch a Fire is the fifth album by Jamaican singer-songwriter Bob Marley and the reggae band The Wailers. It is considered one of the top reggae albums of all time. Touring extensively in the UK and the US supported this album and launched the band into the mainstream. This is an awesome Bob Marley record. Some of the best, good old-fashioned reggae around. It's a great album to chill-out to, or put on in a party setting. That's what reggae is for. RIP Bob Marley.

Reggae compliments dreary Oregon weather all winter long. 400 years is a classic.

I can’t say I love Bob, like the rest of the world, but it’s still super chill and timeless so it’s staying on my playlist

My first listen to Bob Marley outside the Legend album. Good stuff.

Nice to dig into the back catalog rather than just the hits. Some of the attitudes haven’t aged well…

Don’t like reggae much but did enjoy this

pretty good songs, but not great engineering. bad quality mic on many tracks 3/5

Quality reggae, 3.5 stars

Classic Bobby. Personally not a big fan of straight roots but there are some good singles, like Stir It Up and Stop That Train of course (check out the better Stop That Train by Keith & Tex https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1Jvv8Q6hrw , but apart from that imo the only reason this album should be on the list is the historical significance, the music is pretty mid apart from those 2 singles. 6/10 Peter Tosh is a legend, check out his album Mystic Man. Bunny Wailer had an amazing but underrated career after the wailers broke up, check him out, lots of great gems.

A fine album but not the wailers best work.

Not one of my favourite genres so I went in not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. There is a scandanavian tribute band called Bob Marley and the Whalers

I should probably give this another listen at some point. Listened to this on a drive in the rain and it didn't do too much for me. While the production is nice (particularly the spacing and the guitar tone relative to the rest of the mix) I found most of the songs to fall pretty flat and mush together. This lacked a certain pop and shine that other of his albums contains (e.g. Kaya). No real standouts held my attention though I did enjoy the looseness extending through the pieces. Soft 3 / 5 for me.

I’m not really a raggae fan. This is fine.

Here’s an objective timeless classic that gets a little robotic for me after a few tracks. I love Bob, and he’s put out some of the all time greatest, but this one just kind of goes stale after a while. That’s said, the last two tracks are GREAT.

All Bob Marley is good Bob Marley, even when it’s just alright Bob Marley.

Even as a fan, the compilations are better

Niet echt mijn stijl

7/10 - Good classic Reggae album - Few hits on it for sure Good overall album. Only one or two skips if necessary

Did not catchup with it.

It was good. We liked it.

This one didn't hit like his other one. Still good

Grew on me over time, mainly like the writing and some had a killer beat

Reggae is not my style but the album is very well built, the lyrics tell a good story and it's easy to understand All instruments have a good volume, bass lines are very good, the beats are good, vocals are good, just the style is not my type, Can't rate the album low because I have to admit it is very well built First song is very catchy but once you go on the rhythm starts getting repetitive, but that's just reggae I guess

nice start, nice first song. l listen to some songs

I like how the beginning of Concrete Jungle sounds like it's gonna be a funk song, before dropping into the reggae groove. All in all, this sounds about how I expected. Obviously Stir It Up is a banger. Overall, I just have a hard time listening actively to reggae.

I liked this album but it really isn’t my kind of music at all. I can see that it is good and fun but i really wouldn’t ever listen to it

The album was a pretty decent Bob Marley Album. They were all the classic sound that Bob Marley and the wailers would have. Its really good for background music and just chillin. 6 out of 10

reggae has always been a tough genre for me to get into. Some good songs on here, fairly enjoyable listen but wouldn’t be a first choice of mine

Jammin.

Classical reggae album.

It’s been a long time since I listened to any reggae. This fit the low key mood I was in today, but it didn’t get my juices flowing. I don’t think it’ll be entering my regular rotation.

What I expected from a Bob Marley album. Not really my style, but not bad either. Would be a good background album to put on.

quintessential reggae album with great chill vibes 3/5

Not my favorite, I can hear the foundation of his great songs in this album

It’s a good Bob Marley album for when you’re in the mood for Bob Marley. I was not today but if I was in the mood this would be a 5 relative to it’s competitors

Pretty decent, but not one i'm going to play on repeat over and over

reggae yay

Labaiii geras albumas, bet negaliu dėti 5/5 nes nesu šio žanro megėjas. Smagu fainai, naujos patirtys, bet nu po kažkiek laiko nusibosta.
