Classic Alice Cooper

Was very skeptical about this album, glad I gave it a go though as it really grew on me, proved to be surprisingly eclectic, and displays some interesting production. I hear Jagger/Richards, Townsend/Daltrey, and a bit of late Beatles/early solo McCartney in various places. Yeah, there’s some cheesy stuff there but an inspired pick for US election week!

I haven’t heard a lot from Alice Cooper, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect here. This was a fun time, i’m glad to report. There’s just this feel to it that’s great. The campy lyrics add more fun to the songs, however the campiness can be for better or for worse sometimes. Cooper’s energy here really carries that, Cooper’s performance gives these songs more of a soul in a way. There’s plenty of stand out songs as well. “No More Mr. Nice Guy” is iconic, it’s fun! The piano song “Mary Ann” was unexpected haha. That also goes for the big outro of “I Love The Dead.” There’s some good brass sections on that! The guitar solos on this are nice as well, I might prefer some more to others though. This review might be short, but I still had some fun while listening to this. It was pretty nice, good job Alice Cooper!

This is a really interesting album. I haven't listened to Alice Cooper before. I fall between neutral and like on all of the songs. I liked "Raped and Freezin'" (not a good name or topic), but it has good musical sections and great energy. The end sounds like he suddenly brought Paul Simon into the booth. I liked "Billion Dollar Babies", "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "I Love the Dead" a lot as well. Solid and interesting rock and roll. 7/10

8/10. Dope hard rock album!!! :)

Spooky Ziggy Stardust. I’m here for it

Really good

When I think of Alice Cooper, I imagine a typical shock rock star, the Marilyn Manson of his day. So I was surprised that the music more closely resembles the glam rock bands of the early 70s. But you can tell the difference in the lyrics and the visual style. Most glam rock bands didn't sing about necrophilia or dental horror but clearly they missed a niche. Cooper's visual style was groundbreaking though and likely inspired loads of artists to focus on theatrical elements of their tours in a new way. It wasn't just about being big and flashy. They wanted to get under your skin. This line from Wikipedia is worth copying: "In preparation for the tour, two semi-trailer trucks carried a wide variety of props including a dentists drill, four whips, a surgical table, six hatchets, 33,000 program books, 300 baby dolls, 22,000 sparklers, 58 mannequins, 280 spare light bulbs, 1,000 patches, 6,000 mirror parts, 14 bubble machines, 28 gallons of bubble juice, and 250,000 packages of bubble bath." 'Billion Dollar Babies' is of course ridiculous and fairly tame by today's standards. It still has the power to shock some while the rest of us appreciate the Halloweeny silliness of it. The bands would inspire a mix of artists, some great, some cringeworthy. But he was definitely influential.

WE’RE NOT WORTHY! I liked it

This album is a lot, lot better than I imagined. Between a 3 and 4, but I'll be kind. Unfinished Sweet is the only song that really stood out, but I listened to the album twice - which I don't normally do. Just pleasant and diverting. I prefer this to the weirder stuff he's done.

Oye oye, este disco estuvo buenísimo. Nunca le había dedicado tiempo a AC, pero lo que escuché hoy me sorprendió bastante.

Glam rock. Un megahit. Un 4.

Well that's a surprise, I always thought that this album was a recent one, from the 90's not from the 70's. I don't want the fact that many of these tracks are so familiar to colour my judgement. But there are many songs here that I know well and have seen live on several occasions. Makes me feel that it should be worth a high 4, but is it? There are some great tracks here, and some classics too. Going to have to give it a 4 because I do prefer it to many of the 3's that I have awarded, but it is a low 4, only just scraped in. And to clarify, I do not own it but it is definitely on the buy list.

first listen it's glam, all right

Solid Will I listen to again: 60%

pretty good overall

Not what I expected from an Alice Cooper album but I still loved it! Some of the songs reminded me of Elvis Costello.

the stereo panning is doing some weird sheeit Hm, time to rethink my opinion of Alice Cooper. An early favourite when I was first learning about classic rock, turned C-list radio mainstay (oh wow, "School's Out" AGAIN), they managed to wow me today. An opulent monument to bad taste HL: "Hello Hooray", "Elected", "No More Mr. Nice Guy", "Mary Ann" September 7, 2024

I had never listened to Cooper before. I enjoyed it. It had variety of song types, voice is good, and some solid instrumental. I took some of the songs as very tongue in cheek.

Good album. Liked the kinda weird lyrics (except the last song that was just strange). The instrumentation was nice and loved the way everything was put together. Sounded really good and a nice and enjoyable listen.

Good classic

Interesting. Really like the sound and interesting tracks, each stands out on its own. The kind of classic I enjoy. Not oversaturated with filler tracks. It was longer than it felt, the type of album where you wouldn't mind more of this sound. Highlights: Elected Billion Dollar Babies No More Mr. Nice Guy

Blev ju positivt överraskad av Alice Coopers första skiva vi lyssnade på och tycker även denna håller en bra nivå. Blir en fyra åt den svagare hållet även på denna.

i was introduced to the shock rock stylings of alice cooper and related artists not as music on its own or even thru a big radio single but as an explanation on several online frank zappa review pages as to what exactly he was parodying on The Torture Never Stops. based on that i assumed that frank was under the impression that he was taking someone overly self-serious down a peg (which he did all the time) and if he did think that ig this was an idiot cuz this album is pretty fugkigng funny and clearly on purpose. its also not musically abrasive at all! just decadence and morbidity draped over fun breezy catchy theatrical glammy rock music. not much 2 actually observe, just clearly a ton of fun to listen to. torture never stops is still pretty good tho.

With tongue planted firmly in cheek, Cooper presents a much maligned album that is full of biting wit, humor, and shock.

Best cooper album I've had on here so far. Didn't overrun, didn't get boring, was varied enough without going too far off piste in different directions. Can see why he was massive now. And 1973... that's less than a decade after the Beatles were still churning out love songs. Fair play.

A riot. But also cheesy.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Super solid front to back. Rating: 4.4

Who decided that these babies cost so much? No matter. This album is about Alice Cooper reflecting on their huge success and making it about fucked up things that pester the human psyche. Unfinish Sweet has high-pitched dentist drills and I Love the Dead is a ballad for necrophiliacs. The centerpiece of this album, though, is the side B opener No More Mr. Nice Guy with it's incredibly memorable chorus hook. Alice Cooper has proven to be pretty consistent with their fun glam rock macabre approach. Thier next album would be their last a group before the frontman Alice Cooper split and took the name as solo act, dropping the album Welcome to My Nightmare. I prefer the band, in truth.

Whilst Alice hits his highest mark in terms of songwriting and musical arrangements on this album, and I do enjoy listening to it, I feel that the busy, almost live, production quality hasn't passed the test of time well. To compare with others of a similar era and style, listen to what Bob Ezrin did for KISS on Destroyer, Dark Side of the Moon (obviously), and any Brian Connolly era Sweet.

Surprisingly potent stuff (though the dental torture was a bit much in “Unfinished Sweet”). The musical, even orchestral production at times is where the real unexpected enters. Fascinating that it became #1 album in the US in 1973 (perhaps tapping into the cultural fears of the time?).

If you had told me a year ago that I would be an Alice Cooper fan, I probably would’ve thought you were nuts. And yet here we are. Not a perfect album, but really solid.

A simple but fun hard rock album. Nothing mind blowing, but it's enjoyable and good for background listening. It could do with some more variety in sound, mix up the songs a bit, but it's fine.

I've always loved this album. I thought it was a great followup to School's out.

Classic. One of the most underrated bands of the 70's. Fantastic arrangements and solid ensemble performance of witty and satirical material that is still relevant today.

Disregarding Cooper's actions as of late, this one is a solid one if not a bit repetitive? I'm not sure how to articulate it properly but it feels like a lot of the songs just sort of run together outside of the big single and the closer I Love the Dead. Outside of that, I just think it's fine. Good, dare I say.

It's a pretty good album all around. I just don't have much to say about it. Like, I just can't think of a hook to base the review around. I'm pretty slow to pick up lyrics, even from albums I've listened to nearly 100 times, so there's not much I can say there. Besides, I doubt any of its content is really all that shocking today, in CURRENT YEAR 2024, compared to how it must've been in the 1970's. At most, I can say it's got a lot of good riffs, some pretty nice melody lines for the vocals, and of course "No Mr. Nice Guy" is a classic single. That statement alone might not be enough to sell anyone on this album, bult it's all I can give, so y'might as well take it.

A good ol' slice of hard and glam rock from one of its biggest artists.

Not at all what I expected from Alice Cooper. 3.5

First time listening to an Alice Cooper album. I really only knew of him from Wayne's World haha and he's awesome in that. I was pleasantly surprised here. I enjoyed the album overall. Going to give it another listen before I rate.

I was mostly introduced to Alice through Wayne's World, and by then he was kind of old and creepy, and we also had Marilyn Manson as the new more extreme version so I kind of dismissed Mr. Cooper a bit. Quite a few of these songs are rather silly, and I assume that is intentional. I was also surprised to see some that sounded kind of like the Who or even Paul McCartney, but I suppose they all can't be dark necro devil songs even though it is a bit harder on the suspension of disbelief when there is a big tone shift. Fairly solid album if not taken too seriously. Favorite track "No more Mr Nice Guy" 3.5/5

Not as good as Schools Out, but still really good. There's a couple cornball songs, but the good outweighs the bad. 3.5 stars. Bumped up to 4 because a few songs sound like demented Paul McCartney & Wings songs.

No more Mr. Nice Guy!

I used to be a big Alice Cooper fan, I already know and already like this album.

I was expecting a glam rock album, this was actually interesting and had a lot of variety!

Much better than expected, actually really enjoyable! A kind of grotesque carnivalesque irony runs throughout the lyrics and vocal delivery, seemingly in the tradition of European Cabaret ala Kurt Weill etc. Great melodies, especially the choruses and enjoyable arrangements. A surprising win!

Has a song about necrophilia

My second Alice album and even more of a throwback with a few tracks I remember well from being freaked out by him as a kid - YOU DON'T SCARE ME NOW ... *VINCENT* I think I'm a Cooper fan. Much like the "School's Out" album there's a lot of musical prowess and interesting variety here; there's so much more to the Alice Cooper band than the image. It's fun, a little comic-book silly/scary/stupid which is a great deal of the fun, and less-predictable than I could have appreciated as a little kid. 8/10 4 stars.

This album gave me Rolling Stones vibes. Makes sense based on the time of release. I was definitely skeptical coming in as I hadn't listened to much Alice Cooper but I was pleasantly surprised! No More Mr. Nice Guy is one i have heard before a great rock song but I was impressed with the rest of the album that I didn't know. Might not join my regular listening rotation but something I will come back to and not be opposed to exploring further.

Classic Alice not his best album but still a 3+ maybe four I’ll be generous on this one

That was a good album and I love Alice Cooper as a human 🤣

I didn't get to listen to it as many times as I'd like, but tentatively I'd rate this closer to 4-stars than to 3-stars.

I actually liked this more the longer I listened. It's pretty good

Alice Cooper - classic. And he is a great guy!

Fun, somewhat eccentric rock

I've never heard this album! So good.

"Billion Dollar Babies" is the sixth studio album by American rock band Alice Cooper. Hard rock, glam rock, shock rock and heavy metal. Oh yeah! The album was produced by Bob Ezrin and was recorded at Connecticut estate and studios in NYC and London. It was one of the last albums as Alice Cooper the band before they broke and lead singer Vincent Furnier adopted the name. The album was a huge success hitting #1 in the US and UK. A cover of the Rolf Kempf-written and Judy Collins-sung song "Hello Hooray" opens the album. A classical-sounding guitar and drums. Strings are added giving this a big sound. Tight guitar solo...nice start. The first single "Elected" has guitar slashes with Furnier screaming. Horns. Strings. They're rockin' here and sound very similar to Cheap Trick which I never picked up before. This song is actually a re-write of "Reflected" from their first album, "Pretties for You." Fast drums and layered guitars and we're into "Billion Dollar Babies." Idiosyncratic drums. There's Donovan talking/singing in the background. They're showing off their heavy metal/glam side. The album/song title is a surprise at their success. The second side has the band go into the more macabre and shock zones but the start of it is probably their most known song in "No More Mr. Nice Guy." It's poppy. Catchy chorus. A reaction to Furnier's Mother's church group and the group's stage performance (lots of horror props). The album ends with the big sounding "I Love the Dead." Comical as the lyrical are about necrophilia. Starts subtle but adds piano, drums and horns. This is very Zappa-esque. No surprise as Alice Cooper's first three albums were signed to Zappa's Straight label. I'll use it again; this is big sounding and has big production. Strings, horns, layered guitars. At times, it does sound of its early 70's time but, overall, just sounds great. The band is focused. The music has catchy choruses and melodies. I had the previous Alice Copper album, "School's Out" in this challenge and thought it was OK. I liked this album a lot and give it a high recommendation for everyone including all church groups.

I always thought of Alice Cooper as a bit corny but I liked this a lot more than I thought I would! No More Mr. Nice Guy really is a hot jam... Biggest surprise is probably Generation Landslide, but also some of the piano / string transitional elements towards the end. It's got kind of a Todd Rundgren thing going, but more theatrical. Not bad. 7.8/10

Some of the songs were ratchet but overall a great album!

Liked the grittier and heavy songs like "sick things". Nice fade in/out between songs. Just barely a 4 star

For a rock opera, it's great fun. That said, are we all gonna ignore the fact that the Ramones stole the chorus for Sedated from Elected? yeah? okie dokie

I quite enjoyed the blend of garage rock, comedy and showmanship. Plus there was some unusual sounds scattered throughout. Not that keen on the vocals but can't fault the attempt to try and make a record that sounds fun, quirky and odd

Billion Dollar Babies was quite the good album. I mostly was expecting a typical hard rock, metal-adjacent type album but it did surprise me with all the extra bells and whistles it had. It had everything from more orchestral instruments in some places to more electronic sounding guitar riffs in one of the tracks. No track was all that bad either. Its a fun listen I can easily recommend. Best Song: Unfinished Sweet Worst Song: Sick Things

I've heard the intro song for sure but didn't know it was Alice Cooper. This is actually pretty solid. I really like the use of the piano and woodwinds in the background on Hello Hooray. This is clearly poking fun at people that would take offense to things but it's a pretty great album. I expected Alice Cooper to be less musically skilled and complex. This is a real album.

Shock Rock is a neat musical genre. The songs are sometimes hard rock, sometimes Rolling Stones-like.

finally, some 70s rock i actually enjoyed! recent transphobic comments notwithstanding, alice cooper is my favorite shock rocker. these songs are weird and cheeky, which makes for a fun listen overall. it was also cool to recognize so many of them from why must i be sad by they might be giants. favorites: raped and freezin, elected, billion dollar babies, no more mr nice guy, i love the dead

Always liked Mr. Cooper. Never heard Hello, Hooray before - really good. Billion Dollar Babies and No More Mr. Nice Guy - good tracks. It's a bit odd/weird in places, but I still kinda like it. Not a perfect 5, but a good 4.

Brings back happy memories 😀

Campy Rocky Horror picture show greatness

I like Alice Cooper but always thought about him not necessarily being that good but just being gimmicky and fun but this is kind of a great record. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" is silly and dumb but still so good. "Sick Things" is a little too bizarre, but everybody gets one. Ok unfortunately "I Love The Dead" is also too bizarre so that's too bad. Yeah, now I know why I think of him as being too gimmicky. Because when he is making just straight up rock and roll songs it is great, but then he does the over the top silly shit and it's way less cool. But not intolerable.

I suppose we're having a "I already listened to this" sort of week, although unlike ABBA, this one stays in the same place it started for me. It is certainly Alice Cooper as a band's best album, but the album suffers from forgettable tracks all throughout, and while some of the most iconic from the band's career spawn from here, it really suffers from those boring tracks. That being said, I love when this album ditches the rock n roll sensibilities and goes for a more theatrical approach, it was what Alice Cooper (the person) was born to do, and fits the creepy style far more in my eyes than boring Who-like guitar solos. I do sound like I hate this album, but there is plenty to like: the lyrics still generally hold up, and the whole album has this feeling to it like it was so immaculately planned that there are no flaws to see. It feels all born with a purpose of being on this record, which is interesting considering Elected I believe was a couple years old at this point. A good album, but Alice Cooper's solo work was always his best (and worst) material, and this only sits somewhere in the middle of it all. Scraping by with its score here.

Pretty thematic one-two punch with The Stooges - Raw Power as yesterday's album. Right away, it's reminding me of Pink Floyd's "The Wall", in terms of like directly addressing the audience. I wonder if Roger Waters took some inspiration? Anyhoot, I am pretty sure I was only vaguely familiar with Alice Cooper before this landed on my page today, I have fond memories of playing "School's Out" on Guitar Hero growing up. Other than that, I do not really have much of a context for him/them (apparently Alice Cooper is both the name of the band and the frontman's stage persona? A little confusing but ok). I am learning that I definitely prefer the sound of early-70s "hard-rock" to the late-70s sound, and both of those are preferred to the harsh 80s production of similar bands. To quote Jake Longstreth, you have to appreciate the tasteful palette of early 70s rock and roll production. Everything sounds warm. Kind of funny almost the disconnection between the lyrics and the instrumentation -- pretty standard (but really good standard!) type of hard-rock playing, with some really wild/goofy/obscene lyrics. Reading about some of the controversy with this record brings me back to an earlier album in this project (for me, the album is like 25 years in the future of course) -- the Slim Shady LP. (I like this record a lot more). But it goes to show how the older generation will always be shocked by something the younger generation is listening to -- and of course, a good amount of the intent behind the young kids music is to shock their elders. You can see this continue today with songs like "WAP" causing people to freak out. The only track I've recognized so far is "No More Mr. Nice Guy" -- good track! The guitar playing on "Generation Landslide" is really nice, almost Allman like in the outro. I like this record more than I thought I would! Probably not a 5 star, but a very solid 4.

I enjoy this. I like how experimental it feels while still remaining listenable and unique to Cooper’s style. Didn’t overstay its welcome had enough bops to get you through. Minor complaints about small things such as production and the sloppiness of the whole project, but I it may actually add to its charm. 4/5

More than solid rock with a lot of heart, surprisingly fun!

Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would! Was only familiar with like two tracks but the rest of the songs were just good ol' rockin' fun. Also surprised to see how long Alice Cooper has been going at it. He has albums in the 60s??? There's a song on here called Elected that sounds exactly like I wanna be Sedated by the Ramones so I looked into it and apparently both bands have discussed it - but Alice Cooper's version is almost 10 years older than the Ramones - who I already think is an ancient band in their own right. Anyways long live Alice Cooper what a legend.

Was not exposed to Alice growing up. I now know why I heard it referred to as “Satan’s music. Now, as a very mature adult, I enjoyed the dark and sometimes quirkiness of his lyrics.

Much better than the other album by Alice Cooper on this list. Some songs were actually quite good, which took me by a surprise. I was expecting a terrible record, but here we are! I change my opinion on this band, I will listen to some of their songs in the future.

Great. A very good album. I leked to listen to it

I'm not a fan of horror rock but I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I've listened to Cooper's main jams many times over the years but never an entire album. With the exception of a couple of songs, this entire work is well done.

There are some really good highs on this album. Elected, Billion Dollar Babies, and No More Mr. Nice Guy all stand out as great tracks. There are a few filler tracks, but honestly it's a quite good album. It has the almost required slow ballad in Mary Ann, though I will say it doesn't hold up well at all to other similar ballads by groups of the same era. Still, a good solid album that's worth a listen.

Listened to this one before. Good album by Alice Cooper. Tame by todays standards but still great hard rock with a shock factor based on the lyrical content.

Not a fan of Alice Cooper. Not bad but not my thing

Classic Cooper, nice tracks but not the apex of his work.

Pretty good, not great, mostly interesting to put a sound to the name

Love unfinished sweet. Not a big fan of elected and no more Mr nice guy has been played to death, but a fairly solid album.

Ooh, this was great - much more in line with my preconceptions about how an Alice Cooper album would sound when compared to "School's Out". Again, I'd happily give this a 4.5 if that were an option - if I didn't have a backlog of albums from the xmas break to catch up on, I'd be tempted to give it a couple more plays to see if it'd get up to a 5! Fave tracks - "Elected" and "No More Mr Nice Guy" are the ones I was familiar with going in, and they're both great tunes. "Generation Landslide", "Sick Things" and "I Love the Dead" were all stand outs too!

A few songs weren't for me, but in general I liked the guitar sounds a lot. Also, vocals? YES.

Good. I liked the title track, ‘No More Mr. Nice Guy’, and ‘I Love The Dead’ the most. Alice Cooper has a good brand of shock rock, though not really actually that shocking.

Good classic rock album

No more Mr nice guy is my fav so far

not for me. But it is an absolute classic.

Went in only knowing the few radio hits and ended up really enjoying this. It has rock opera feel.

Old school. Alice was amazing back then.

Alice Cooper is always a fun listen, and there actually is a lot more musically going on here than you'd think. It's always interesting hearing hard rockers go back to their roots and play straightforward blues like he does on Generation Landslide. It's a nice reminder that hard rock is the blues, just presented very differently.

I can’t believe I actually liked this album. I didn’t know much about Alice Cooper before, but I had my ideas about what his music was like. I was very wrong. He’s much better than I expected. 7/10 Top 3: 1. No More Mr. Nice Guy 2. Hello Hooray 3. Elected

Whereas most Alice Cooper records thread a fine line between witty and passé, rocking and tiresome… this was a fun one throughout. Still with the same dry Alice Cooper delivery but this record is proper glam - more akin to T-Rex and Bowie but maybe not as refined. Anyway it was a fun record.

A solid classic rock album I’ve never heard before. I hear elements of The Who in the intentionally epic rock opera style of many of these songs, Beatles influences on the first and final tracks, and I assume the James Bond style of “Unfinished Sweet” was intentional? “Billion Dollar Babies” was fire. ”Elected” sounds like “I wanna be sedated”.

I feel like this is the right type of glam: something that goes so over-the-top that it turns out grimy and pushing the envelope. Like how "glam" fashion feels, in reality, like putting a lot of makeup on a pig. It's pretty, but underneath? Favorite tracks: "No More Mr. Nice Guy", "Elected"

This was really good. I was only familiar with his hits and enjoyed this album.

pretty good

More enjoyable than expected.

I was not quite as enchanted with this as School's Out, but it still has plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor and naughty fun.

I liked it and found it quirky (like the other Alice Cooper), I guess because it was not what I expected (not sure what I did expect though). Not quite a full on love affair with the album though.

Great stuff

If you're never listened to this, then try and put all the Alice baggage to one side, and listen to it is a seventies rock album (ok this is not entirely possible with I love The Dead). But Billion Dollar Babies, Hello Hurray, Elected and so on are solid-gold rock classics. I did not know Donovan featured on the title track. The musicianship on this album is exceptional - check out the stuttering rhythms of Generation Landslide for example.

Listened Before? N Alice Cooper is such a well-known artist, but I feel like I personally don't know much about his actual art beyond his image. I know he was huge in the 70s, and I can see why. This album is pure "f-you" suburban teenager music. I really enjoyed it. The art design of the cover is amazing as well. Added to library? N Songs added to Playlist: Billion Dollar Babies

Makes you miss straight ahead rock and roll. With certainly No More Mr. Nice Guy, Hello Hooray and Elected, there is easily approachable, a little sneery, and good tough rock and roll. I didn't really realize before how much there's a Who/Roger Daltrey vibe in a bit of Alice Cooper's delivery. Though it falters into a bit of weirdness at the end, this is really enjoyable.

This slaps and is arguably his second best album, but I prefer Alice Cooper's ballads. That may or may not make me a romantic fool at heart. I still call No More Mr. Nice Guy an all timer.

Much more light and shade than I would have expected from their more famous songs, with ballads and bluesy numbers mixed through the classic rock staples and only a couple of schlocky pantomime horror tracks. Not quite a five star album, for me, but a solid 4!

When I was a kid, I thought Alice Cooper was scary. Growing up is learning Alice Cooper is actually fun. Like Halloween decorations, he's not going to hurt you, but just wants to give you a little thrill. This album is pure rock fun, and actually has a lot of range -- after a few rocking numbers, the piano balladry of "Mary Ann" was quite surprising. I believe this is the last Alice Cooper album I'll be encountering on this list, and I hope I remember to come back and listen to them again. They're actually great.

Super album hard rock, je devrais fouiller plus creux dans le catalogue d’Alice Cooper

Actually really enjoyed the album - slightly against expectations. Enjoyably wacky and for the most part didn't feel slow, overdone or samey

Great mix of doom metal and hard rock

Singles: ---------------------------------------------- Elected (#26 US, #4 UK) Hello Hooray (#35 USA, #6 UK) No More Mr. Nice Guy (#25 US, #10 UK) Billion Dollar Babies (#57 US) 4/5

Almost skipped but glad I didn't. Fun album

Not sure what I expected Alice Cooper to sound like, but it wasn’t this! I was pleasantly surprised. Weird lyrics and kinda cheesy but I think that’s fun. 3.5 stars rounded up! Best track: I Love the Dead (what a way to end the album! And it’s definitely the first and most likely last time I’ve enjoyed a song about necrophilia……)

I didn’t expect to like this album as much as I did. I have never been into Alice, and I had heard one album prior to this one, which I don’t believe I rated very highly. But hell… this guy can sing like Paul McCartney and then scream with authority. The guitars rip and the chorus’ have excellent balance and catchiness. Overall a very solid album with some solid hits. I will re-listen.

I felt like the last few songs dropped in quality but for the most part this album was great. I felt like this was more refined in sound than Alice Cooper’s previous stuff.

pretty good, didn't expect from Alice Cooper.

I enjoyed this one. Good amount of variation in sounds, a couple songs i had heard but most i had not.

This has always been my favorite album of Alice’s, and I always admire how easily he was able to rotate from hard rock to showtunes to something entirely different at the drop of a hat. He’s a legendary performer, but I think his songwriting has always been underrated, he knows how to write a tune and get a band together. A-

4/5. Okay honestly, an album I must of missed out on when I was really into 70’s rock. This matches all the correct notes, maybe some misses, obvious radio singles, but overall a pretty cohesive and original album. Might be a 5 later.

Once upon a time, Extreme sang, "So go ask Alice. What did he say? I wanna be elected!" it sent me looking for this album. I already knew No More Mister Nice Guy and Billion Dollar Babies, thanks to a greatest hits cassette we used to listen to in the kitchen where I worked. This takes me back and for good reason!

I have never listened to this album...at least not in one sitting. Hello Hooray, Billion Dollar Babies and of course, No More Mr. Nice Guy are all classics.

First time I’ve really listened to Alice Cooper. Some good tracks that stick in my head, especially Hello Hooray, Raped and Freezin, and Bilkion Dollar Babies

Liked it, not what I would normally listen to.

Genre: Hard rock Review: Reminded me of classic bands like Judas Priest, Motorhead etc. I'm sure in time I'll start to appreciate how influential this must have been, although from what I read on the internet, the live show element had a lot to do with the success of this group. Rating: 7/10

First time listening to Alice Cooper. Much tighter, groovier and catchier than I expected. Great fun from start to finish, although I'm not really a fan of the choice of topics in their lyrics, but I suppose it's all a part of the overall persona. Well worth a second listen - and adding to my YouTube Music library is my way of keeping track of these. 4/5

S - no more Mr. Nice Guy J- better than expected

(At this point in time Alice Cooper was the name of the band, not the singer.) Genres: Hard rock, shock rock, glam rock, heavy metal Formed: Phoenix, Arizona, in 1964 Run time: 10 songs, 41 min 12 sec Some great tracks: Elected, Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy. The other tracks are ok. They are all very Alice Cooper; unique and made to shock.

Way better than I expected

I love how much Alice Cooper revels in his performances. He wails, he yells, he screams. He sometimes assumes a persona that I can only describe as a satanic court jester. Not every song on this album is great but man oh man, Alice Cooper gives every song his all. I love the glam rock drama of "Hello Hooray." It's a great opener. "Billion Dollar Babies" was another highlight. It's weird and manic and packed with ripping guitar solos. And of course "No More Mr. Nice Guy" is a classic. Really fun. I also liked "Generation Landslide."

Great opener with a really really great chord progression. To me it feels triumphant almost? And having the fade out really locks in that feeling. Interesting to open an album with this one though when I think it would work just as well (better?) as a closer. I never listened too much to Alice Cooper. I think when his music came around to me it just felt a little too theatrical and cheesy for me to fully embrace. I am definitely enjoying this album though. The only down side is that from my experience I hear some of these songs, like "Billion Dollar Baby" and I can't help but think it's a mock-rock Spinal Tap song (for the record I love Spinal Tap but they are obviously satire). "Unfinished Sweet" is a good example. Dental drilling sounds and pained howls at 1:30, and then parts of the theme to James Bond at 2:58? That's quite a valley to cross in a minute and a half. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" is such an amazing rock song. Alice Cooper has such an impressive feel for simple hooks. This one is so straightforward and uses just a slight rhythmic pause to elevate the hook-factor: NO MORE (pause) MISTER NICE GUY That's all it needs! That little pause is really perfect. I don't love the mix on "Generation Landslide". His voice sounds way way too loud compared to the instruments. "Sick Things" also gives me Spinal Tap vibes. It kind of meanders around and doesn't do much for me.. Interesting album cover. A bit perplexed on what it all means though.. Overall it's a 4/5. It has a top 100 rock song of all time in it but the supporting tracks don't do enough to elevate it to a 5.

Enjoyable nonsense. They found a little niche and went for it. Thank

Considered giving this a 5. I really liked it.

vraiment bon album rock, je recommande c'est clairement un super album 4.5

I didn't get a chance to listen to it today, but I own it and love it. I think I maybe mentioned this before, but I wrote "Elected" into the script for THE CAMPAIGN and am still disappointed to this day that it never found it's way into the final film. I mean, damn. I've never been a huge Kiss fan, but there are certainly songs of theirs I like a lot. But if given the choice to listen to this album or the best Kiss album, I'd very likely go with Cooper 5 or 6 days a week.

Memory lane, i was thirteen when this album was released. Great album.

(Really) better than expected.

My second Alice Cooper album (after schools out) and another solid entry. Definitely great musicianship here. Solid effort

This Alice Cooper is very different from what he became in these early albums. Like the other one, this was great music. Really diverse and it's from 1972 I wouldn't have guessed. He was ahead of the curve here since this sounds late 70s / early 80s.

Fun rock and roll album. The beauty of this record is that Alice and the gang never take themselves too seriously

Dug the album considering I'd historically found AC to be a bit of a gimmick act

It was pretty good I guess. No More Mr. Nice Guy is a classic for a reason the rest was about average faire. Alice Cooper is in the same camp as Rob Zombie for me: they both have entertaining personas, make music that is all over the map qualitywise, but ultimately come across as super cool dudes that I would kill to have a beer with. A 3.5 bumped to 4 because Alice just seems like an A+ dude.

Great album- I prefer AC live, but worthy for your collection

I used to be such a sweet sweet thing ‘Til they Got a holda me

Didn't realize I would like this so much! A pleasant surprise!!

An album with a surprising amount of variety. Never listened to Alice Cooper before, but this album is filled with highlights. Not just a standard hard rock album, the songs are unique from each other in their sound. I really enjoyed the instrumentation on this album, and it has given me a new appreciation for Alice Cooper. Would recommend. FAVORITE SONGS: - Hello Hooray - Billion Dollar Babies - No More Mr. Nice Guy - Mary Ann - I Love the Dead 4/5

So many styles of music & vocals composed in one album. I hear early metal, but enjoyed also the cabaretesque piano & heard a few strings, too. How creative! Aside from No More Mr. Nice Guy, I very much enjoyed I Love the Dead. Into this.

Ok rock album, some classic tracks of the 70’s. No More Mr Nice Guy still my favorite track from the album

nice. alice cooper slays!

Slicker than a weasel.

shocked by this rock

Very enjoyable. Good spooky rock for halloween

Some of the lyrical content is a bit iffy but I think historical context matters and it wouldn't have been "cancellable" in the 70s. That said this is a good example of rock of the era. Some bangers, some filler but ultimately a good time. 3 ½ stars would be fair but since that's not possible I'm rounding up to 4. Also, the note Alice hits at the start of the chorus in Hello Hooray is very Lennonesque

First listen. Never really heard much Cooper aside from the obvious tracks. Fun listen.

Alice Cooper is the king of shock rock!! It is very evident by some of the topics touched on in this album. Some examples include: Unfinished Sweet - a song about dental surgery. Alice uses dental drill sounds and screaming/moaning noises to really drive home the cringe factor! Sick Things - his delivery in this song is so creepy, which is the point! I Love The Dead - a song about necrophelia, which in and of itself is shocking! The fact that it is almost a love ballad/porno groove adds to the shock factor. Another surprising song was Mary Ann, when it is just him and a piano. Overall a great album! Alice Cooper was a revolutionary artist, and paved the way for the likes of Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson. Favourite songs: No More Mr. Nice Guy, Elected, Billion Dollar Babies Least favourite song: Sick Things 4/5

I haven't really listened to Alice Cooper, so this is a good exercise. I enjoyed Hello Hooray a lot. No More Mr. Nice Guy is of course, awesome. Generation Landslide should have gotten more radio play time. It's too good for me never to have heard it. This album is some core rock. It's really well done, but it's got a lot of that weirdness Alice Cooper is know for. Really good bass lines.

There's a reason Alice is a legend. Pretty much the king of "shock" rock. Really groovy tracks with some dark and offensive lyrics. Love it.

This album is lyrically interesting and the music suitably dramatic and interesting. A pretty good intro to Alice Cooper (the band).

I can appreciate what's going on in this album. Pretty fun at times, and what isn't fun is fine. Really enjoy some of the more prog and experimental elements. 4/5

30/08/2022 Alice Cooper – Million Dollar Babies 4/5 I’m surprised by this album. I’m not a Hard Rock or Glam fan, and I was expecting something heavier, or at least freakier. But no, it was an amazingly easy to listen album (for its genre), fun and it doesn’t take itself serious at all. It has good instrumentals, good production for the time, and except when it gets too weird, vocals are enjoyable too. Again, the genre is not favourite, and that is probably my biggest bad point; and one of the reasons I think I will be tired of listening to these songs in my playlists in the near future. Lyrics are also not something I usually pay close attention to, and the humour has maybe aged a bit poorly (but is not offensive at all). Hello Hooray – 4.5/5 Great first track, because of its theme, but also because it sounds really good. The bell that sounds in the background of the song freaked me out a bit, but I think that is a sign of good production. Raped and Freezin’ –3.5/5 Standard hard rock song that doesn’t sound bad at all. Love the end, and the addition of the piano on the background. Elected – 4.5/5 The catchiest track of the album, and one of the best in my opinion. I always love a bit of politics in my music. I really like the addition of the horns, and the instrumental bridge. Billion Dollar Babies – 4.5/5 Another great song of the album. Great instrumentally, and the Donovan featuring, with those double singed choruses, is fantastic. Unfinished Sweet – 3/5 This song is one of the weakest in my opinion. It is a fun and original song thanks mostly to its interlude, but the theme (Dental health? Why?) and the sound of the song itself doesn’t do it for me. No More Mr. Nice Guy – 3.5/5 Not the best track of the album musically, but the theme is interesting: how being different generates hate. This, however, doesn’t explain why you must stop being a good person because of that. You don’t have to treat others like shit, just because you receive that from some. And that is just my opinion. Generation Landslide – 4/5 Really like the “folky” sound in this song. Other lyrics criticising the older generations, similar to what he does in “Billion Dollar Babies”; a critic totally valid today. Sick Things – 3.5/5 Not the most appealing sound in this track, but it pairs very well with what it condemns in the lyrics, creating a frightening atmosphere thanks to the slow tempo and the instrumentation. Mary Ann – 4/5 Surprising slow, short and sweet track that sounds like a Beatles song. It contrasts highly with the previous and the next song in the album. I Love the Dead – 4/5 And here is the craziest song of the album. I don’t know how you decide to write a song about necrophilia, but here it is. Apart from how questionable the topic is (knowing that it is not written seriously), the instrumentation is great. It sounds like an epic Queen song.

dramatic 💅🏼

Hij heeft er betere maar no more MR. NIce guy is een classic

Ik ben alice cooper fan, prachtig album

The guy is a genius, his macabre persona within a little rock pop mixed in was a big deal back in the day. He walked so others could run.

Rock grunge de ótima qualidade

Better than School's Out

Þessi er mjög glam-Alice. Fílana. Vantar í vinylsafnið.

this is a really good album and I really like the songs, but there's something almost muted, or held back. and maybe that restraint is appealing to some.

Had a bunch of notes but they got deleted. I liked the first half of this album but hated the 2nd half. As a vocal talent, I've definitely overlooked Alice Cooper and always thought of him as a TV celebrity, but sitting down and listening to this album definitely changed my mind. Would have been fun to see this band live in their prime, the music just seems so tailored to live shows.

This was a huge album for my 14 year old self. Probably hadn't put it on the turntable in 40 years. Well I've been missing out. BBB stands up today and remains a great album. What shocked was the variety of styles and the ease with which they pull them off. Great playing, excellent production and great songs! Of the hits No More Mr. Nice Guy is stellar but the title track, Hello Hooray and Elected are not far behind. And for a deep album cut, you won't find better than Generation Landslide. A stellar hard rock album that has aged very well 4.5 🌟

Grade 7. St. Francis middle school. We had to do a project on Hounds of the Baskerville. Could anything be more boring? Rudy G. and I decided to team up and figure it out. Upon reading the fine print of the assignment, we learned that we could do a song rather than a book report. Hmmm. In 15 minutes, our assignment was done. We had a tape recorder and while "I love the Dead" was playing in the background, Rudy and I whaled " I Love The Hounds" and howled like nobody's business during the drumming bits. The teacher, realizing we took the easy way out, decided to play the tape for the class. We prepared to be embarrassed and teased but - no - the class loved it and girls who wouldn't normally give the time of day to the likes of Rudy and me, were telling us how original, charming and funny we were. Win, WIn, WIn. Later that year when the school was getting us prepared for our confirmation they told us we had to pick a "confirmation name". I picked Alice as my confirmation name. That didn't go over so well with the principal and his warped sense of love thy neighbour. +1 for making the School of the Bleeding Heart of Jesus more bearable.

Not what I expected. A very good album.

Je le dis et le redis: on ne mérite pas l'Alice Cooper des 70's. Prefs: Raped and Freezin', Elected, Billion Dollar Babies, Unfinished Sweet, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Generation Landslide, I Love The Dead Moins pref: Sick Things

This album was a non-stop true joy for me at 12 years old, and still hits those spots.

I also love the dead

Thought there was some solid guitar and a few really catchy choruses. 7/10

Alice Cooper is so fun

Glam rock. Un megahit. Un 4.

Punk before punk,

sonzao a fude

enjoyed this

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Billion dollar babies, Unfinished sweet, No more mr. nice guy

Had this album for a while, picked it up cheap a while back. It's a good one. Alice Cooper is still playing a few of these live. "I Love The Dead" is his closer. So these are songs the fans still love after almost 50 years. I like the feel of all these songs, most of them still have a bit of the 70s wrapped in them in. What I mean is that they could have only come from that era, I doubt the production styles of later eras would have made these songs sound like they do later, like in the 80s. It doesn't have as strong or as hummable a song as "School's Out," but I like all the songs on it: "Elected," "Hello, Hooray," "No Mr. Nice Guy" are some of my favorites of Alice Cooper. It's really weird to separate the two eras: the band Alice Cooper and the person Alice Cooper. But hey, that's rock and roll, right?

Maybe I'm being too generous, but this feels like a surprising 4 stars. I've never thought Alice Cooper was anything special - like No More Mr. Nice Guy, well-known but to me just ok. But there's some stylish arrangements here (for example, Hello Hooray and Billion Dollar Babies). And Alice Cooper (the man) writes some pretty witty lyrics - sometimes the material is dark but the music to go with it is not. It's like glam rock with a totally distorted sense of humour. I really enjoyed Raped and Freezin, Elected (was there some brass in there?), Unfinished Sweet, and Generation Landslide for these unusual lyrical and musical combinations. I Love the Dead starts to dip its toe into the macabre a bit too much but the latter half of the song has some redeeming musical arrangements. Sick Things (definitely too much macabre) and Mary Ann (awful sound) were the only real disappointments.

I always figured Cooper was hard rock, so I was surprised to hear elements of glam (e.g., the opener Hello Hooray) and even prog (e.g., parts of Unfinished Sweet). It definitely had a somewhat dated sound, but it was pretty good overall. I'll give it a 4 because I have a tough time giving a 5 to an album that has an anthemic song about necrophilia. Oh, and the song "Raped and Freezin'" - um, Alice Cooper, are you ok? Favorite tracks: Elected, Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy.

There are some great songs and then some good songs. Just good a good theatrical rock album.

Rock clásico con buenas guitarras y acordes. Temas muy conocidos para una buena voz carismática

Spooky!

Enjoyed this quite a lot. Cheesy but fun. Lost its way a bit towards the end but go on have a 4th star why not

Pretty good

A surprising amalgam of styles from two different eras, this album has elements of both 60s psychadaelia and 70s prog rock. Also, this album showcases the oft-overlooked fact that Vincent Furnier was and is a hell of a singer.

This album list has really taught me that my idea of what Alice Cooper is, was totally flawed. Between School's Out and this album, you really see the flair he has for theatrics and kind of a "burlesque show" vibe to his albums. It's Rock and Roll but has that stage show feel, less so on this album than it did with School's Out, but still there. I enjoyed this one, some more of his classics were on the list with Hello Hooray, Elected, Billion Dollar Babies, and No More Mister Nice Guy. Solid album all around.

I don't think this is all that bad actually. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" was the best song on the album, IMO. 7/10.

No More Mr. Nice Guy is great as I already knew. This is an album that could grow on me if I listened to it a few more times.

Kamalt El Hadra 10 Mel Rbo3 Etheni Men 3l Bouheli Mte3 Dostoevsky, Still Sick As Mofo. Sedry Bech Yo5rej Men Blastou

This was so much better than I expected. I had a perception of Alice Cooper as a hacky, shock act and this felt much more genuine than I anticipated.

This was far better than I had anticipated. I would relisten.

This album contributed to half of the Alice coopers greatest hits that I listened to as a child. Some of the songs were kinda shitty but no more mr nice guy and elected make up for it

I have only passing familiarity with Alice, I know the hits, thought he was great in Wayne's World, etc. I did see him in concert opening for Mötley Crüe in 2015 or so. He was still 100% rock star and much more fun then poor old Vince Neil. Oof, that was a sad spectacle. Anyway, I'm perfectly happy to listen to this album. The album cover is the same ridiculous mashup of images and ideas as his music evokes. It makes me chuckle. I'm such a sucker for loud strutting rock stars that can really belt out a rock anthem but don't take themselves too seriously. So here we go. Although I'm not familiar with most of these songs, except Billion Dollar Babies and No More Mr Nice Guy, it sure starts out sounding like classic Alice Cooper, which is a good thing. I normally would object to a song called Raped and Freezin' but it is a pretty good rocker. Elected is also solid. The title track is so good, and I just read that Donovan does the falsetto which is hilarious. Oh and I'm enjoying Unfinished Sweet (great title). Obviously No More Mr Nice Guy is a high water mark. Generation Landslide strikes me as an objectively good song and valid social commentary. Sick Things is the weakest track in my opinion and for whatever reason I Love the Dead leaves me cold. (ha!) Overall my rating is: turn it up!

I’ve listened to No More Mr. Nice Guy so many times but the first time I’ve heard the whole album. Solid stuff.

I’d listened to this album before but something about it clicked this time. Fun stuff

The edgy-for-edgy's-sake shtick is something I could take or leave, but there's a moment that makes this album for me. It happens during the refrain of No More Mr. Nice Guy, a flourish on "obscene". That gives the game away, Mr. Cooper, but I appreciate it. I learned after finishing the song that it was used in Ash vs Evil Dead, which is entirely unsurprising. And the rest of the music is technically great, easy to listen to, easy glammy fun.

Круто. Рад был знакомству, мистер Alice Cooper

Great album. Lots of classics. Great garage works shop album

Fun Album. A little theatrical, spooky and catchy. As Alice cooper (7/10) FT: No More Mr. Nice Guy, I Love The Dead

Top notch glam rock.

I think most Alice Cooper is 3-star territory for me. I typically like the lyrics and the music well enough. Cooper's singing is hit or miss for me though. This album happens to have a couple of tunes I really like, such as "No More Mr. Nice Guy." That pushes it into 4 stars for me!

Задорно

Great album. I always through Alice Cooper was much harder… I guess this was hard for the time? Excellent album, though.

Overduidelijke Glam Rock. Kan het wel smaken maar geen 'wauwgevoel' bij dit album

I really like this last hurrah of the bluesy-hard-Rock version of Alice Cooper before he goes full spooky Halloween man. There are definite signs of what's coming next throughout, but the majority of the tracks are still more straightforward rock tunes. AC had a pretty solid streak of great records from School's Out through Go to Hell (with plenty of good shit before and after, but that's streak is unimpeachable). Biggest takeaway from this listen was Sick Things. The noisy cacophany is really great and a real teaser of a lit of what would be on Nightmare.

This is a tight band, writing fringe rock, and Alice is singing lyrics for the horror fans of the world. In short, it rocks hard. This really feels like malice fully leaning into the persona he performs with to this day, and the results are spectacular.

Love me some Alice Cooper. I prefer some darker stuff, but this is still classic, especially the title track and No More Mr. Nice Guy.

Made me feel like I was in a 70s high school movie or a backyard bbq. Except the last song sounds like Halloween. Pretty fun

I could go my entire life without hearing Unfinished Sweet again and I would be perfectly fine with that. Other than that...solid album.

I love Alice Cooper. He is great, I listened to him on 6Music recently and he's just a really nice guy who loves the performance and campness of glam rock. This album was pretty good, not as good as Trash.

This was a very fun album

innovator, I wish he was my goth/glam uncle

Some of Alice's biggest songs are on this classic album. Always fun to revisit old shock rock.

it was pretty good, i thought the opener and closer were good especially

Pretty solid classic rock album. Pretty great tracks with my absolute fav track being “No More Mr. Nice Guy”, which I have known before this listen. Was pleasantly surprised by many elements as well, like the piano in “Mary Ann”. Final track “I Love the Dead” was super fun too. Overall, I really enjoyed this!

A perfect encapsulation of Alice Cooper and the "darkness" he threatened, but never really brought. This album offers the catchy riffs and lyrics while offering greater depth throughout the listen.

Fun energy here.

Classic. Utterly degenerate, but classic

offbeat theatrical spookiness catchy

So this is definitely like the album that made Alice Cooper an icon. It’s very good. Should revisit for the tracks that are really really good.

Good album with strong vocals and varied styles and instruments.

Ikke så stor kjennskap til den gigantiske katalogen til Alice Cooper. Veldig allright album - høydare i form av No more Mr Nice Guy, Hello Hooray og Unfinished sweets.

I don't think I knew this, but it sounds good.

I was expecting a little bit heavier than this. I did like it, but would have rather had a bit more power behind it.

I see why Alice Cooper was popular

How has Alice Cooper impressed me... I would probably put a 3.5 but 4 seems fair. It's a good album

very cool

It was good

I don't know what I expected from this album, honestly. Not this, though. Half of the album felt like a Stones ripp-off band. The other half was more metal ... but not by much. I know it was early days for metal but, still. I don't know. It's not bad but it's also not special. Except for "No More Mr. Nice Guy" - one whole star for that track alone.

Prolly my fav Alice Cooper album. The drums are just so good, especially on the eponymous track, that opening fill is too catchy. This time around I was impressed by the amount of piano too.

A fine album. Alice Cooper is known for his outlandish lyricism so I knew what to expect when songs like “I Love the Dead” and “Raped and Freezin” came along in the tracklist. The main highlight for me was the song “Unfinished Sweet”.

How fun - I'd never listened actively to Alice Cooper, and had a blast. Great musicianship too

It's rock'n'roll, it's vaudeville, it's Broadway, it's huge fun.

Some great songs but has not fared well with the passage of time.

Просто не моё. Но обложка прекрасна

Fine, unremarkable

Solid rock a;bum, more serious then I was expecting. Love the rejected James Bond demo they snuck in there.

This is not an Alice Cooper album that I was familiar with; I had only ever heard "No More Mr. Nice Guy" before. When I was listening to '80s hair metal, I listened to his music a bit, but apparently that was his older material. Looking at his catalog now, it is massive. The dude is a legend for sure, but the sheer number of albums also dilutes the hits, so this album really only had that one standout track. In my case, this affects my rating because the album just isn't as strong as it could be. But I also think the requirement for albums to have multiple hits is a more recent thing anyway, since this one came out back in the early '70s.

First AC album. I was expecting more shock value. Actually just good quality rock and roll.

J'aime beaucoup le son de la guitare et de la basse, par contre à la fin je me suis fait chier...

didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. no more me nice guy is a jam tho

Some good, some bad and a lot of camp. Tries to sound creepy and menacing, ends up sounding goofy. It's a fun aesthetic if you don't take it too seriously. Paired with the theatricality present in the instrumental composition you're in for an entertaining, all be it messy listen. However some tracks border on being unlistenable, especially the last few. It's an alright album for a one time listen, but doesn't really have much staying power. Fine. 3/5

Over the top and theatric performances are pretty good here. I had only heard a few songs from Alice Cooper before, but this was a fun listen. Really liked some of the drumming on here.

A couple classics

Ehhh. 3. Good guitar work but it doesn’t move me

Campy fun

Its okay - My introduction to Alice Cooper was on The Muppet Show when I was 9 yrs old. I can't separate the two now.

I was fully expecting a 2 here. Way to overachieve, Alice!

Not my jam. I read that this some kind of dark, decadent masterpiece, but I thought it was a total fucking snoozefest (well, the first 5 songs, at least; I gave up after that).

Better than I expected since I really don't have a deep well of appreciation for Alice Cooper. I did meet him in the Detroit Airport once. He was a nice guy. The album covers a lot of ground, so I appreciate that, but his shtick has a ceiling for me.

Some of this was pretty good.

Busy weekend - took a couple days to get through. Overall just meh. 3/5

Not my scene. I dig that Alice Cooper has a theatrical bent to his style. It's kinda unique amongst his time and genre. And for what it is, it works. I just can't really get into it. No fault. Just not my jam.

Pretty good- had some good hits but fell off a bit at the end.

There's good musicianship and nothing offensively bad, but I also don't understand Alice Cooper at all. The themes of the music, the tone, the lyrics, everything just seems so mismatched

This album may have been over hyped for me. Alright Rick album, some fun lyrics. Didn't realize Alice Cooper could do high notes

Shades of my childhood. My little coterie started out liking Alice but we quickly turned on him as being kiddie music. To his credit, he pissed off our parents--Alice? What, is he a girl? Snakes? Eew. Makeup? 'Nuff said. We could still have fun listening, but we didn't take it too seriously. Glam and theatrics were somewhat off-putting (snakes? blood? just play, please). More interesting now (Unfinished, anyone?), but hard to get around old feelings, and those early issues remain.

This album is more than just No More Mr. Nice Guy and a bunch of B-sides.

Good, not great.

The album is ok overall but hasn’t really aged well. I was surprised to learn this was Alice Cooper’s 6th album. Expected it to be the first or second. Random thoughts. 2.9/5.0

Pretty good time, but it lost me a little bit on the second side rather

Wasn't really drawn into this one, but I did like 'no more mr. nice guy'. I don't think this is my kind of music

some of the instrumental work is fun, arrangements are mostly unremarkable, vocalist is versatile but making a lot of stylistic choices i'm not fond of, and the lyrics are all over the place

Was all prepared to dislike this album intensely but then I have to admit that it's not too bad. The Alice Cooper persona is so wrong as far as I'm concerned. I am absolutely not the target market and find it difficult to get past this to actually listen to the music. He's singing about being 18? Difficult to believe he ever was, gnarled old rocker he quickly became. But there are some good tracks here (no more mister nice guy, for example) and perhaps the year (1973) helps to ensure that the music avoids the excesses of the later 70s stuff. I do hope to there's no more Alice Cooper on this app.

Does this guy know how to party or what?!

I'm a sucker for seventies glam shock rock but this got a little too "spooky" at the end.

All right, definitely of an era. Couple of good songs though.

Nice enough Alice, I'm sure others love it. I've definitely heard worse, that's for sure. Just didn't do much for for me

huh nice 3.5/5

This was better than I expected.

The playing is good, the sound is good, some of the tunes are clever. However, the goofy theatrics really detract, and point the way for the schlock Alice would do through most of the rest of the 70s. This has not aged well.

Cool makeup, theatrical lyrics, overall solid delivery of shock rock.
