Reviews (page 5 of 8)

The about Alice Cooper is that when you remove all the shocking stage antics, we're left with some pretty regular glam-y Hard Rock. Not to say there aren't great songs on here, there certainly are, but Cooper is mostly remembered as a shock-rocker first, and nothing here sounds particularly shocking. Maybe audienced in the 70's found it shocking? I wouldn't know. From what I've this is his (their?) best album. Key tracks: Hello Hooray Elected No More Mr. Nice Guy

That was less metal then I thought it would be.

Honestly, this is not what I was expecting. I thought it would be dark and dramatic (“Sick Things” was the exception). This was more in the vein of Steely Dan or CCR. It was good.

I Love The Dead is the standout. The rest is standard fair. Pretty decent, Nothing to write home about. Opener is pretty tidy too. It does get better on a second listen. There's a musical quality to it, it feels like the soundtrack to a really great play Better than Schools Out by a distance. I'm thinking 3

Pretty fun

School's Out was one of the best pleasant surprises of this project for me so far. I had high hopes. This one didn't quite hit as well. And actually, I think Killer is better than this and may have been a better choice for the list. Still, it's fun and wacky and very on-brand Alice Cooper. Can't entirely hate it.

yaasss ok so this is my childhood- i was introduced to alice cooper through the muppet show (Episode 307 for reference!) i really do enjoy this album. it is an accessible version of rock music for his era. I also really like the song "unfinished sweet", the instrumental breakdown in the middle of the song is very creative. my favorite song is "no more mr nice guy"

I liked it. Very mellow, and I like the style. My favorite song was probably "Four Seasons in One Day"

dad rock, but it stays pretty interesting throughout. finishes stronger than it starts

back to back Alice Cooper albums for me on the list, thats entirely too much. Its not bad though! It just seems more tepid and safe compared to School's Out. As a whole its nothing to write home about, No More Mr. Nice Guy is great, love the opening.

We literally had an Alice Cooper album yesterday and I think I enjoyed that one more. There’s some bangers on this one though! No More Mr Nice Guy is great

Fun album, had never really gotten beyond schools out with Alice Cooper. Elected especially stood out as an absolute banger

I know in 71 his music might have been shocking, after all, it is call shock rock by some. But in 2026, not so much. I'm not even sure why this was a must listen before I die.

Some stuff in the album is quite innovative; the production, the concept, and some themes. In some cases, the lyrics are very original for its time. Otherwise, it feels closer to a musical than a rock album. You don't know if they are for real or just playing a role, in my opinion, it feels like an impersonation. It is a solid album

Oikeen ikinä ymmärtäny mikä näissä Coopereissa on ollu niin hienoa. Show ja "tosi vallankumouksellinen" ote silloin aikoinaan. Sanoisin et aika mitäänsanomatonta mainstreamrokkia ja vielä aika paskoja biisejä. No mr nice guy on ky iha hyvä

this was truly a creative album! I loved the drama behind every song, even if I didn’t likethe song. There were a lot of little details, like unique instruments or weird sounds, and that made it an interesting listen. I think it also reflects the thought that went into the song creation as well! My favorites were the first two tracks, and generation landslide.

6/10 Rock 4-22-2025

Ok, but not what I care to listen to.

I was fully ready to hate this Disney version of shock rock. Turns out the tunes are pretty fun!

I enjoyed it but some songs were a bit too odd for my liking

Enjoyed listening. No big takeaways.

Meh. I'm starting to think I only like Mr. Cooper's hits. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" is truly the only standout track musically. Lyrically, I appreciate a lot of the subversive themes, but I feel like I'm supposed to laugh at the subversion and I can't find the actual humor. Trust me, I'd be the first to laugh at a song about necrophilia or sexual harassment. It doesn't work that well for me here. Maybe it's a little too subdued for me and I prefer a more in-your-face approach. And maybe that's what this was at the time, but now it feels relatively tame.

More melodic and fun than I was expecting! Basically showtunes, very Meatloaf.

Lol. Not what I expected. A far cry from the Alice Cooper I remember. "You're poisooooonnnnn!" Plenty of weird. Should be more songs about dental great. Kinda ok though. I'd listen again. That's a three.

Not a big Alice Cooper guy, but this was not that bad. Mainly I appreciated the fact that the majority of these songs were referenced in the TMBG song Why Must I Be Sad.

I dig this a lot more than I thought I would! My dad introduced me to it when I was 12, I'd guess, and I remember a few of the songs well. Others didn't register at all, including the excellent, proto-Primal Scream Generation Landslide and Mary Ann. There's a lot more tonal variety here than I would have guessed. Nice to have my expectations challenged.

Elected

It was fine

I always thought Alice Cooper was a woman. Some cool brass in elected. A nice album, but I can only do so much 70s-80s dad rock, 3*

Enjoyed this the longer it went on, solid album

First listen of Alice Cooper and sort of expected more. It was fine but not exactly shocking. I love the dead to finish was bizarre

This guy…. I certainly heard a ton of this band growing up, and for the most part, I liked it. Typical boy stuff. Early Shock and Awe. Now it sounds simple and generic, and the vocals are shit. But that was never the point. Alice is an entertainer, and he mastered his craft. Even my dad started listening to them… a man who swore by high and tight hair and boring harmony. 3 stars for reminding me of my pop.

This reminded me a lot of an American The Who. A lot of super interesting song ideas and concepts. Sometimes the “edgier” parts come across a little corny to me from a modern perspective. Favorites were Elected, Generation Landslide, and I Love The Dead.

Huh. I was actually really curious to have this album and see what Alice Cooper is about. Not what I would have thought. Not for me but wasn’t bad.

This took me way back to school days and a friend who loved Alice Cooper. Probably the instigator of "shock rock", yet Alice Cooper was campy and never came across as too serious. Yet, this is a good album. "Hello, Hooray", "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Elected" are most notable songs.

Бодро вроде , но до четкой четверки старина не доехал

Might be shocking but this is the first Alice cooper song I’ve heard. I didn’t know what to expect but it was pretty good. High 3

3.4 3x hard to not give this a 4, but i dont see myself coming back to it

It was ok. A couple really good songs and a bunch of ok songs. Nothing bad.

I was expecting painful heavy rock and it actually was not too bad. There were even a song or two i liked. There were still ones that need to be skipped. Not going to listen to it again, but it was okay

Shock Rock at its finest, if you're into that sort of thing. It is too theatrical for me but I understand the uniqueness of this band's approach, storytelling, and front-man appeal.

Nothing special to be honest, but not bad either.

This was middle of the road 70s rock. No more, no less.

I guess you had to be there? This is just middle of the road '70s rock to me. It's nothing groundbreaking or particularly interesting.

Cooper tryin' to be Bowie

I love the dead

Pretty cool, but some of those songs were just too "out there" for me to enjoy. Still a solid record overall, they found a theme and stuck to it. 3.5 stars

Shockingly similar to Meatloaf. Well-produced but weird

Big, loud, kinda creepy. Feels like a rock show and a horror movie smashed together. If Queen had a mean streak or if Bowie got a little nastier, it might sound like this. The riffs are catchy, the vibe is wild. It’s fun.

There's some decent rock in here and was not as metal as I was expected out of Alice Cooper. Good album, but landed at a high 3. Not enough for a 4.

very solid classic rock with great vocals

I’m sure that this was more exciting when it was released but sounds pretty generic today.

Just not my jam.

This album had good musicianship and instrumentation, featuring some classics. The title track includes a collaboration with Donovan, adding an unexpected twist. However, the lyrics are somewhat scattered, clearly aiming for shock value. With topics ranging from political satire to necrophilia, so If you’re into provocative lyrics, this album might be for you.

The album came with a wallet-shaped cover and a billion-dollar bill inside, which tells you most of what you need to know. I appreciate the influence—KISS, guillotines, and glam excess—but the songs themselves feel like props without the stage. #1 in US and UK charts - so tremendous.

An enjoyable listen with not much that stands out. No More Mr. Nice Guy is, of course, a classic for a reason.

It’s hard to listen to this and imagine Alice Cooper caused any kind of stir. It’s rock musical theater done well but not something I’d prefer to sit and listen to. It’s like watching Rocky Horror on TV instead of going to a proper theater and participating in it.

Generation Landslide and No More Mr Nice Guy are great. Why is GL a glam Dylan song?

I liked this a lot more than I expected

Don't think I've ever gone out of my way to listen to Alice Cooper, despite him being rather well known. That being said, this album is fine.

I've always assumed that Alice Cooper was that band/person to bring "horror" or "shock" rock to the mainstream. By today's standards it's pretty light on shock value, but maybe in the 70's talking about banging a corpse to a lighthearted major key guitar tune was a big deal. This album doesn't necessarily have a lot of that horror or shock stuff in it other than "Raped and Freezin" and maybe "I Love the Dead". That's a welcome thing because I find that stuff pretty ridiculous, not in an offensive way just a "this is dumb" way. I've actually unintentionally seen Alice Cooper live a couple of times when he's supporting a modern act, and their (his?) live shows are really fun. The theater and his character are bombastic and entertaining. They use a ton of props, the band members all participate and he brings out actors and actresses to tell whatever story is going on. In a live setting, the simplistic rock music really goes well with the theatrics; you don't have to pay too much attention to the music to fully grasp all of it and it's more like watching a really goofy musical. It's a pretty good time with laughs and excitement. Now, to the music, there's nothing really groundbreaking about any of this. In fact, there's nothing really "shocking" about any of it other than the occasional undead based lyrics. Everything's mostly a four/four basic rock tune in a major key. "Unfinished Sweet" is the exception, that's a properly written very 70's rock song. Everything is performed fine, nothing really bad about it, just fairly unremarkable in a sea of basic rock bands. You can tell that Alice Cooper exists to tour and do live shows, which they're still doing today, and they do it well. I think "Elected", "Billion Dollar Babies" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy" are the standouts, though "Unfinished Sweet" is my favorite because it's the most complex. Could do without "Raped and Freezin" just because its' weird and "Sick Things" which just kinda sucks. This is a lot of words to say that it's fine. It's a decent rock album.

No More Mr. Nice Guy was a good hit, but this album is more notable as a stepping stone in Alice Cooper’s career than as a great album on its own.

I swear that some part of almost every song sounds like it was lifted from somewhere, James Bond, Beatles, etc.

This was pretty fun but not much more than that. Nothing really made me want to listen again. 3.5 stars

I enjoyed this more the second time. raped & freezing, nice guy, and generation landslide were solid and will add. Rest was fine.

Classic album, No More Mr Nice Guy and Elected are nostalgic favorites

i didn't like it nearly as much as the previous "school's out" which i listened to as a kid a lot

Até que é um bom álbum. Acho que conhecia No More Mr. Nice Guy. Mas o álbum começa forte com Hello Hooray, ai vai decaindo, No More Mr. Nice Guy recupera um pouco mas só vai ter algo legal lá no final, com Sick Things, Mary Ann e I Love the Dead. Acho que posso ouvir mais vezes

Well, it doesn't contain Alice Cooper's best material, but it's still miles above similar albums of the era. 3/5

I don’t know how many decent rock albums I can take…

Gave this two listens while doing some work around the house. Can't say I loved it all, but Billion Dollar Babies and No More Mr. Nice guy are solid singles and I did get a good chuckle out of Elected. Have to say that ending on an ode to necrophilia was unexpected. I swear that Eminem's Marshall Mathers samples from I Love the Dead, but cant find anything to support... Anyway this was a soft 3 for me. Not bad I just can't imagine coming back

Alice cooper can have a jam I love like No More Mr. Nice guy but then a song a couldn't give a shit about like Raped and Freezin'. For that reason I give this a 3.5 stars.

Expected hair metal, got some rock opera. 3.5 stars probably until Sick Things. That and I Love the Dead felt like Disney songs. Decent album, high 3

Enjoyed this 7/10

When I was 20 I had guitar lessons from Pete Friesen, one of Alice Cooper's touring guitarists, at his house in Maidenhead. He was a really nice guy! On to this album though. For me, this is just 'fine'. I don't think that it shocks me. The music is quite good in places! But there aren't many songs which made me want to listen again. A bit like a proto-slipknot, I feel this is an act which got high on wild performances and edgy lyrics rather than good music. Sorry Alice. Sorry Pete.

Alice Cooper is one of a kind, and it's honestly pretty impressive that he was able to carve out a great career playing his unique brand of zany rock and roll. He is the type of artist that the stuck up music critic in me wants to rip on, but I can't help but end up smiling while listening to his albums and singing along.

Outside the hit tracks I don't know if I have listened to an Alice Cooper album front to back. Not sure why, maybe when I was young listening to metal, punk and hardcore it was seen as just a bit too kitsch. This record has the LA rock vibe of the time. Stand out tracks: - Raped and Freezin' - Elected - Billion Dollar Babies - No More Mr. Nice Guy - I love the dead

Ovi rano Alice cooperi su interesatni ko neka stepenica između glam i hard rocka ali meni uvik nešto fali

the spirit halloween of albums, but "i love the dead" is worth the price of admission

5/10. Not a fan of his voice and nothing overly creative but some listenable, decent stuff

Not my favorite Alice lp

Times like this I think to myself, I should really listen to more Alice Cooper

Good time!

I did not know that this is how an Alice Cooper album could sound.

Who knew? Alice is on the lastest Black Keys album kinda creepy tho

Not what I was expecting. Thought it would be more metal. It was okay though. 3/5

This was more enjoyable than School's Out - but some parts of songs weirded me out Horrible noises and some sort of panting and moaning? Ruined the songs tbh Overall ok album 3 ⭐️

Can see how this was huge at the time, but now it's just kind of lifeless. Does not help that some of the songs have been played to absolute death on classic rock radio.

While Alice Cooper is a great artist, I wish he would've leaned more into the theatrical, dark aspects of his live act in his studio recordings. Aside from "I Love the Dead" being more about the macabre, there's not much that sets him apart from other 70s/80s hard rock musicians. I still enjoy his work, I just think a little more differentiation on his part would have pushed him into another echelon for me. Notable Tracks: - Elected - Billion Dollar Babies - No More Mr. Nice Guy - Mary Ann - early Beatles vibes - I Love the Dead 6/10

Not too shabby. It's funny, if I didn't already know Alice Cooper's schtick, I wouldn't have picked up on it from this album, except for maybe a couple of tracks. It just sounds like a good 70s rock album. I enjoyed it, but probably wouldn't add it to my playlist.

I find Alice Cooper hard to pin down to a specific genre. Wikipedia suggests three options for this album, but none of them seem appropriate. It's not really Glam Rock, although this is probably the closest. Hard Rock doesn't really mean anything other than "has guitars and drums", and it's really not Heavy Metal in my opinion. I'm going to go with a different genre, one that doesn't exist, "Cabaret Rock". This would be defined as rock music that has a theatrical slant and was written with a stage performance in mind. Maybe with a small orchestra in the pit, and a lot of makeup involved. Also music that's designed for "stage antics", "shlock horror", etc. Alex Harvey is similar in some ways, but also falls more into the traditional rock genre than the Alice Cooper band does. Musically, there's not much here, just some very basic rock with goofy lyrics about often macabre subject matter. Anyway, I don't really like this album, but I'm giving it three stars anyway. If it didn't have "Elected" on it, then it would probably have ended up as a one or two star album, but that track alone elevates it. I also don't hate a few of the other big hits here as much as I thought I did.

Surprisingly really good, liked it.

It was pretty good.

This feels like the soundtrack to a musical theatre show. That's not in of itself a bad thing, but it's amusing to think that something so camp caused any outrage. Overall the album is fine, not really my cup of tea, but decent enough. If you're a fan of Cats, Blood Brothers, Hamilton etc, then you'll probably enjoy this.

The reviews had my hopes up! It was ok, not a classic imho

I didn't imagine this would be Cooper's most popular album, I would have thought School's Out. It was decent. No More Mr Nice Guy is clearly the standout. I Love The Dead was left cycling through my head for most of the day.

This was pretty middle of the road for me, nothing stood out as amazing but nothing was particularly bad either. Favorite songs were: 6. No More Mr. Nice Guy 7. Generation Landslide 6/10

Nice tunes in general. Nice vocals and especially like the fact that I can hear most of the words. Nice arrangements.

Nothing special.

besser als erwartet aber still meh

Some great songs on this album.

3/5 kinda mid

Actually pretty good

Some cool songs on this! No More Mr Nice Guy is a classic.

Better than I was anticipating, and probably the better end of that whole ‘theatrical rock’ genre. Lyrics are at times dreadful though, and it’s all very standard for the whole. It aint shocking like the picture I think he likes to paint of himself. Probably wont ever be back but can see why its on the list

Lots of Alice Cooper in my house growing up, none of the big tracks on this though. It wasn't as macarbre as I expected though I love the dead was pretty on brand Billion dollar babies was great, the rest of it was pretty so so but still generally liked it. Not sure if this is worth including on the list, surely there are better Alice cooper albums.

dad rock NOVAMENTE. uma estrelinha a mais porque é bem melhor que dire straits. dá pra ouvir sem ter filho de boa. ouvia muito no more mr nice guy quando tinha 9 anos e estava cansado de ser bonzinho.

Good album. May revisit it. 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' takes my fave.

As my first time intentionally dipping into Alice Cooper, I was surprised to find that I thoroughly enjoyed their sound. This album feels very much like an eerie, twisted rock opera with a healthy balance of lighter and harder sounds. It took a couple of tracks to settle into something I thought to be a fairly good listen. At times, I found that it fell somewhere between that glam rock sound akin to Poison with some darker tones thrown in and a harder sound that reminded me a bit of Mötley Crüe. Overall, a very interesting listen with a good mix, consistent, if strange, sound, and occasionally whimsical tones, but one dragged down by the more sinister and bizarre tracks.

I have always thought of Alice Cooper as a bit of a joke act, and I have never taken his work seriously before now. I really enjoyed this album. It was fun. I am surprised. I really enjoyed Mary Ann, I loved the dead and Billion-dollar babies. Favourite song: No more mister nice guy Least favourite: Sick things Album artwork: A bit of a lame cover. I expected better

I’ll add this to the list of pleasant surprises provided by the 1,001 albums. I’ve never bothered to listened to an Alice Cooper album as just dismissed it as over the top parody. But, this album is really really good! (With the exception of the loving dead people bit). It’s musically so much better than I imagined, with great arrangements and a decent vocal.

I have finally listened to a whole Alice Cooper album. It wasn't the train wreck rubbish i expected. I loved some of the strange effects going on with the bass. Not being particularly interested in messages/stories in lyrics, I didn't care what nonsense he was going on about, I'm sure one had something to do with necrophilia, each to their own, I prefer women warm (ish). Musically it was decent enough for a 3 star.

Less fun than school's out, but it still has a handful of gems.

Not bad; I definitely wonder if a lot of the shock value and "hard rock" effect this album had when it was released has been distilled, since it was a lot tamer than I expected. Some solid rock songs songs, and nice use of brass instruments as well. Overall a decent listen. Top tracks: Hello Hooray, Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy

No More Mr. Nice Guy and some other songs

Hoppa milli þrists og fjarka. Sumt er ansi hresst og catchy, þó ég vilji ekki endilega að það sé það (I love the dead), en svo dettur þetta aðeins niður á milli.

I had forgotten that Alice Cooper were once a band and not just a rock 'n' roll personality. The album is a bit campy for my tastes; nonetheless, I enjoyed most of the songs.

I didn’t think I would like him and I kinda do. With that being said, the lyrics were odd

Quite enjoyed, not much to say either way

This is the campy, theatrical, dark rock that I expect from Alice Cooper, but it had some surprises and was more entertaining than I hoped for. Mary Ann sounded like it could have been lifted as an outtake from an Emerson, Lake and Palmer album, and Hello Hooray, Elected, No More Mr. Nice Guy and Unfinished Sweet were great tracks. I can do without ever hearing Sick Things and I Love the Dead again. 3⭐️

Good classic album

01) Hello Hooray - 7,5 02) Raped and Freezin' - 7,0 03) Elected - 7,0 04) Billion Dollar Babies - 6,5 05) Unfinished Sweet - 6,5 06) No More Mr. Nice Guy - 6,5 07) Generation Landslide - 6,0 08) Sick Things - 7,0 09) Mary Ann - 7,0 10) I Love the Dead - 6,5 TOTAL: 6,75 (68/100)

Etwas verrückt, aber gute Melodien. Abwechslungsreich, kann man sich durchaus mal anhören.

Hallo Hooray!

I guess it's kind of funny that this is "shock rock". Listening to this and knowing Sabbath had been doing some legit, super dark metal for a few years, this seems like some poseur wannabe shit. I know Alice Cooper had been around longer but their schtick here is pretty thin. I'll give it a 3 but it's more like a 2.5.

Not as hard rock as I thought. Some bangers on there but not my thing overall.

Great!

Better than I thought it would be, but very safe for what it is.

Pretty good album. I've never heard it before and it's worth a listen. There is some variety to the songs, some theatrical rock, some more chilled out rock. Would have loved to see him perform this live, was probably an amazing show.

Not bad for running

this was fun but i thought it was gonna be more, y'know, outrageous?

I don't think I have much to say on this one. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. 3/5

I like Alice. He was the hard man of his day so there were a couple of nostalgic tracks I well remember. Easy 3*

Fairly standard rock fare.

pretty good! 3.5

Much better than what I thought, considering its glam rock

Although this album isn't like the Alice Cooper songs I know already, I found it to be pretty nice. Although in the song "Elected" the music is louder than his voice. Liked songs: No More Mr. Nice Guy, Generation Landslide, Mary Ann

I find myself unsure how I want to rate this one which I feel like I've said a few times lately. I liked "Billion Dollar Babies", "Unfinished Sweet", and "Generation Landslide". "I Love the Dead" is.... a lot but I'm ngl I love the sound of it and it's a great finisher to the album. I feel like I say this a lot too but I have a funny feeling this album will really grow on me. Right now it's more of a 3 but I bet after a relisten or two it will be a 4 for me. I love the guitar work on this album and the vocals feel fitting for the style/subject matter. I think though, I don't find this album particularly "catchy" which is why I think it suffers a bit on first listen rating. But since I am mostly trying to rate these on first impression I will be keeping this to a 3.

Crotch rock flavored Halloween glam. Not my cup of tea, but I didn't completely hate it. I was expecting a 2 and I got a 3.

Decent 70s rock. I was expecting something either much worse or more challenging. 3.5 🌟

Enjoyed this.

Decent enough rock n roll 3.5/5

I guess I didn't really know much about Alice Cooper before this; I expected this to be more metal. It's alright in any case.

Alice Cooper is not what people who only know him from his 70s rock radio hits think he is. He's a much better songwriter then people think, and it comes out on about 30-40% of his tracks (that I've heard). Unfortunately, in the other 60-70% he still puts himself in this smaller box confined to basic rock riffs and ideas in my opinion.

Has some cool riffs, but that's about it...

There were some James Bond vibes on Unfinished Sweet, direct interpolation perhaps. I also enjoyed the rock opera aesthetic, and the whining vocals reminded me of a proto Smashing Pumpkins, many years earlier. Overall, enjoyed this more than I expected

Probably his backing band ever.

The kings of 70's schlock rock. Perfect B Movie horror music. Politcians, dead babies, running from Mexicans in the desert, being mean, invisible cocaine shields, possible necrophilia - what more do you want? Best Tracks: Raped and Freezin'; Unfinished Sweet; No More Mr Nice Guy

Different to how I expected

I never knew what Alice Cooper sounded like until this. I kinda like it

It was fine. Some songs landed with me, many didn't. Overall though it managed to be decently enjoyable, but not something I would actively go back to.

Nothing special

Better than I expected!

Enjoyed

honestly, didn't leave much of an impression, this album. The tracks all just sort of merged into one. No more mr nice guy is the only track that I felt like was a bop. Not a bad album overall though. 3/5

Discovered I had a wrong impression of Alice Cooper.

3.5 stars

holy heck.. tämä albumi on jokseekin erilainen tunnelmaltaan kuin alice cooperin hitti laulu ''poison''. tämä albumi ylitti erittäin alhaiset odotukseni.. tuhma saatanallinen, tuonelan kätyri... alice cooper tuli unissani soittamaan kitaraa hulluttelemaan.. heräsin siemennesteet sängyllä... mitä VITTUA tapahtui? runkkasiko alice cooper kikkeliäni oikeassa elämässä??? Pelästynyt villipentu luottaa ihmiseen ensimmäistä kertaa.. so fucking sad man... hullutusta hullutusta.. generation landslide

Not terribly interesting, I suppose I might be missing some context but to think of the other albums that came out in that year in the same genre it would have been tough to stand out. Guess I should listen to more Alice Cooper to get it?

This was too AM radio for me when it came out in '73 and it hasn't changed in 50 years.

B Hello Hooray 4 Raped And Freezin' 3 Elected 4 Billion Dollar Babies 3 Unfinished Sweet 3 No More Mr. Nice Guy 3 Generation Landslide 3 Sick Things 3 Mary Ann 4 I Love The Dead 5 Alice Cooper don't miss!!

Another album with elements that I like - the horror theme is fun - but on first listen, not enough there for me to definitively say I liked it. Comes across as a little too cheesy.

Some tracks are cool. I’m sure it was very groundbreaking at the time

This is my genre and expected to enjoy this more. It was ok, but not something I’d seek out.

Works for me, never really listened to Alice before. Sort of indistinct, unrefined... Raw. I'll give him 2 stars for this. I listened to it 2 more times today, 3 stars!

The problem with basing your persona on being shocking is that things rapidly become normal, and your songs about necrophilia get kind of cringey. Not terrible, but not great.

Decent album. No More Mr. Nice Guy is an all-timer that I can’t hear without thinking of the movie Dazed and Confused.

This is OK. Not amazed.

I’m always surprised how much I like Alice Cooper’s music. “Elected” and “No More Mr. Nice Guy” are probably their 2 best songs, even next to the awesome anthem that is “School’s Out”. The lyrics are all mostly a little stupid, making what they consider tongue-in-cheek jokes about sexual harassment and necrophilia which don’t really do it for me, but the sound of Alice Cooper’s voice is incredible. The way they make one or two people sound like a chorus is pretty cool with the way they recorded the album. The rest of the band all play like they’re having a blast on stage, even in the studio.

While listening to this album, I kept thinking about how well Alice Cooper would do on The Muppet show. A quick google showed me that Jim Henson realized that 50 years ago.

I liked this one, it was a unique and cool and weird

I like Alice. Mostly just the hits though. There were no real exciting new discoveries here.

This is a good listen - a few bangers and of course “no more Mr. Nice guy.” Would play it again.

I really didn’t connect with this album as much as I thought I may have. I think something about the chords or something I don’t know. I listened to it again and still felt indifferent towards it. I didn’t actively dislike it but I think I just felt some disappointment because I didn’t love it.

From nowadays perspective I really can´t see the magic of Alice Cooper in general and this special album any more. Ok - there are some nice songs like "Elected", "Billion Dollar Babie" or "No More Mr. Nice Guy" but for me it´s just another classic/hard-rock-album. 🤷‍♂️

Some good stuff, but pretty mixed; some tracks are kind of a chore to listen to. The cover art is great. Generation Landslide and Unfinished Sweet were my favorites.

Not bad.

dudes like the ween of metal. who knew.

It's alright but I liked his other album on the list better. There's a couple of good songs, but towards the end it gets worse and worse. Favorite song: unfinished sweet

Better than I expected.

A couple of the songs are just dreadful, but I was surprised by the rest of it. I think it stays enough out of the generic classic rock sound that it held my attention throughout.

Alice Cooper or Rocky horror picture show or meatloaf. this album could be any of those. Well well done not really my cup of tea

feels ahead of its time even now. does not feel like it came out in the 70's feels like it was a mid to late 80's sound. I enjoyed it but i will likel not revisit the album again

I was surprised at how melodic this was. Kind of semi-epic and orchestral and listenable.

3.5 stars. A pretty good rock album. I didn't think I was going to like this, based on what I thought Alice in Chains would sound like. But the songs are constructed well. Alice Cooper gives a good performance. Even "No More Mr. Nice Guy" is alright despite having heard this song dozens of times.

BL: Aware of "generation landslide" from this album and not much else, so will be interested to hear AL: The aforementioned track in my pre-listen is still the only track I think I would continue regularly listening to. There was good stuff on this record and functions incredibly tightly as a solo record. FT: "Generation Landslide" 3/5

50 years on maybe the shock value is not as strong. But it's still a good hard rock album and he has a good voice.

2.8 wanted to add more songs from this to my liked and was excited but unfortunately hello hurray is still my only liked from this faves: hello hurray

I thought I would like this album more than I did, but it was okay. Standout songs are No More Mr. Nice Guy, Generation Landslide, & I Love the Dead. Overall a 6 out of 10.

Surprisingly good

Like it's fine and interesting rock, but didn't revolutionize my day

Mom, can we have David Bowie? No. We have David Bowie at home. David Bowie at home: ----- Memes aside, there are some really good rock songs on Billion Dollar Babies. The concept is executed well and must have been a huge influence on many groups for decades after its release.

There's some decent stuff on this album, but, overall, it's a bit too much like musical theatre for me. Alice Cooper is way more diverse than my preconceived opinion of him and his singing range is quite impressive. Talented fella. Definitely won't be giving this another listen though. 🤷🏼

Perfectly good. Honestly hadn't actually listened to much any Alice Cooper before. More of a classic-rock vibe than I'd expected.

pretty cool, interesting enough, good variety. 3.4.

More glam than the earlier theatrical Schools Out. Evidence of macabre horror traits, but also classic rock notably on No more mister nice guys and Elected.

Remember when Bruce Dickinson did a cover of "Elected" with Mr Bean? Haha... I think I have a copy of the single somewhere, (yeah yeah, it was to support Comic Relief). 🤣 As for the album, it was fine, semi-enjoyed it. Though it does make me question the Hard Rock genre, as generally feels quite soft.

Alice Cooper has always seemed more Rock than Shock, more Glam than Rock, more Light Tin than Heavy Metal and for all of his seemingly bad boy persona seemingly toothless and catering more to FM Radio than its' outskirts...even considering the timeframe. The album is fine. 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' is a classic. 'I Love The Dead' seems tacked on for the shock/creepy factor to keep up the image. The rest seems like pretty standard rock.

Short. Love the guitars. Not as much a fan of the talking/growling lyrics, particularly in the latter half of the album (Sick Things, I Love the Dead).

Pretty cool again never listen to Alice Cooper album all the way through interesting

Better than I expected.

More artistic than I thought it would be, and I thought he was more schools out style - this album showed much more range. Still wasn't for me, but I can appreciate it more than I thought I would.

Liked Songs Hello Hooray Elected Billion Dollar Babies No More Mr. Nice Guy

interesting listen. beginning was too slow ending was better

It's solid. Not something I'll go back up but it's got some cool stuff.

Pretty good, I did not mind listening to this. Not necessarily something that I'll choose to listen to, however.

Some good riffs, too theatrical overall.

Some fun songs, some kinda weird songs

Second listen needed.

Brings back some happy memories of the 11 yr old me, especially Elected. Good album but like most of his work good but not great

Eh. First half is okay. 2nd half I disavow.

Alic3 Coop3r

Enjoyable 3.5

Hard for me to judge -- seems designed to fit neatly within my wheelhouse but somehow I didn't come away feeling like I had an Alice Cooper-shaped hole that needed to be filled. Satirizing boomer aspirations... okay, thanks. Mostly I felt like I just came to this too late for me to feel strongly about it. I also didn't know anything about Alice Cooper except that he had a really theatrical stage act. He's got a great voice and the backing instrumentals are a lot more rich and varied than I'd expected. Might give it another listen.

I had no idea what to expect from this album and prejudged it based on Alice Cooper’s looks. I thought it would be super screamy but it was full of catchy melodies and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Probably not going in the regular rotation, but a big improvement over yesterday!

First half was great. Fell off for me after No More Mr. Nice Guy Favourites: 1,2,4,6

High 3 star, more enjoyable than I realized and fittingly interesting for the turn into the 70's

Corny Danzig.

Silly shock rock. Fairly musical, but offset by the Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Marilyn Manson gimmickry of the whole thing. 2.5 rounded to 3 due to decent instrumental passages.

Decent.

whoop diddy cooper

pas loin du 4!!

Dunkel und satirisch. Ein bisschen theatralisch.

Not a true fan of Alice, however the music composition on this album (first time listen) was excellent. His lyric always seems immature to me, however if seen as humor, his poetry is damn funny. Intelligent. Not certain I would rush back to listen to this one again, but enjoyed it well enough for a 3 rating.

For something which I'm DEFINITELY not the target audience for... This was pretty decent. Tooke me a few tries to get into it, but there are some good riffs here despite most of it sounding like pretty prototypical 70s hard rock (not usually my thing). Not something I'm going to come back to often (if at all tbh), but I'm okay having listened to it once.

I like the long instrumental section in Unfinished Sweet.

Before this, the only Alice Cooper songs that I’d heard were School’s Out and Poison, so I was surprised to find this album sounded very different to those. Some interesting elements like the sound of the dentist drill in Unfinished Sweet, and while I quite liked I Love the Dead, there was nothing that I loved.

Some cool clasic rock right here. Bass work is pretty impressive on Billion Dollar Babies. No More Mr. Nice Guy is a boomer anthem. do i really want to relisten to alice cooper sing about fucking corpses? I guess not really.

Dit was goed te verteren! Lekker bezig, Alice!

Eigenlijk een behoorlijk leuk album! Meneer Cooper stapt hier zelfs voor bepaalde nummers totaal uit het shock-rocker hokje, en produceert een paar mooie popliedjes. I can dig it.

One of Alice Cooper's better albums, containing two or three genuine classics.

My friends saw me listening to a song called "Raped and Freezin" and got concerned. Kinda weird album, not sure I'm a fan of theatrical rock. Maybe live it would be fun but it just doesn't land in the recorded version. I think the only song I knew previously was No More Mr Nice Guy I give this one a respectable 3/5 for its iconic moments and contribution to the theatrical rock genre.

I certainly like this one more than School's Out. Faves: Elected, Unfinished Sweet, No More Mr. Nice Guy, and Generation Landslide.

Only knew a few Alice Cooper songs before this album and didn't really know what to expect. Was a solid mid-table album with a few good tunes. Would like to hear more of his stuff.

Fun album. Probably influential for its time. Not really something I’ll probably listen to again though.

This is fun. I’m enjoying it more than I expected to. Not going to run out and buy a used copy, or put it into any kind of rotation, but I won’t be upset if it comes on again

First Alice Cooper album I'm hearing all the way through. Pretty rockin' album, campy, fun/gallows kind of lyrics. The album seemed to get better on the next listen. I was familiar with No More Mr. Nice Guy, but my faves are Billion Dollar Babies and Generation Landslide. The closing track I Love the Dead gets points for it's sheer camp and shock value, literally just months before the first production of the Rocky Horror Show.

I have heard of Alice Cooper but never really listen to much of his stuff. The album was okay didn't hate it, didn't love it. I really like no one more, Mr. nice guy. Will probably add that song to my playlist Also really love the album cover

Not bad for the first 5 songs are so. Maybe even Bowie-esque. Then it got significantly worse

I kinda like Alice Cooper but this was a letdown because wtf were they going on about at times? His solo work is much much better than this, and it only gets a 3 because No More Mr Nice Guy is an all-time great tune and his vocals are strong enough to make it generally listenable.

Another enjoyable album for Mr. Cooper & pals. There aren’t any really outstanding tracks on here but it’s all pretty fun. I was always vaguely well-disposed towards AC, probably after he appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and now I've heard a couple of his albums I'm even more so. 3 / 3.5

It’s ok

Always struck by how relatively mild and understated these old metal/horror rock type acts are (though there is certainly some way out there concepts entertained). Not my genre generally but an enjoyable listen.

This was alright. Not a huge fan of Cooper as it is kind of cheesy now. But had I not grown up with Marilyn Manson, I would have probably loved this. Songs are good I suppose but I want them to be way more hard rock than they are.

I only knew a song. I like when the instrumentals get Trippy. I like the vocals and instrumental on their own, but for some reason not together. 3

Surprisingly diverting rock. “Elected” is really a fun song with more incisive lyrics than I’d have attributed to Alice Cooper!

This album is decent, each song has parts of it I like and parts I don't like, so they even each other out. Alice Cooper's voice is unique, both in a good way and a bad way depending on the song. The guitars and backing music I felt were the most consistent part of the album and were always good, but didn't carry most songs. 2.5/5 Favorite song: No More Mr. Nice Guy Worst song: Sick Things

Anfangs super langweilig, so in Richtung Glamrock, danach wirds besser. Mit so ein paar ganz schönen Experimenten.

Frathouse rock. Well executed and pretty fun but ultimately a bit monotone

Not my personal taste but solid enough!

Can’t deny that No More Mr Nice Guy is a banger. The rest is pretty fun but not exactly for me. A high 3.

Good guitar throughout and definitely interesting song writing and form. There’s a lot of attitude throughout the album. Not totally for me just listening through but I’m sure Alice Cooper concerts were epic and where he really shined.

Ok hard rock album with a Glam touch. Closer to the NY Dolls than Led Zeppelin. A little bit of KISS in here too. I like it, but does it need to be on the list?

Bit boring really but not bad

Seems strong. Probably not much my type ever.

sooo much better than i thought this was gonna be

Interesting... hard rock with a whimsical, musical sound. Good but not great.

It's okay. I like some of the weird riffs, but honestly didn't pay attention to most of it.

Wasn't really into it, but it managed perfectly fine as background music

Didn't recognize any of these older songs other than No More Mr. Nice Guy. Overall pretty decent album. Definitely doesn't reflect the image of Alice Cooper I have in my mind. Reading about the history they picked their name because they didn't want to have a dark name. Funny that this would be considered dark music.

Good album. Never had strong feelings either way for Alice Cooper. Although he was excellent in Waynes World.

Heard before: some Wait, did the Ramones ever hear “Elected”? Hmmm… Alice Cooper used to scare the crap out of me. So it’s hilarious to hear just good ole classic 70s rock and roll. Of course, I didn’t think it would still sound edgy, but this is like musical theater played by Foghat. Which is ok by me! I mean who doesn’t want more Rocky Horror? It’s so Meatloaf, just makes me laugh more and more. Paging Jim Steinman, STAT! Top tracks: Generation Landslide, Elected, I Love the Dead

A little more pedestrian than I was generally expecting, but fun enough.

I liked the first song and then the rest wasn't bad but wasn't great

Not as horror rock as I thought. Lots of rag time riffs. Cool album

First half is fun and definitely improves in the second half of the album.

Pretty okay rock album with an anthem in No more Mr. Nice Guy. Got Beatle-esque with Mary-Ann near the end before wrapping up with a bit of necrophilia.

A couple familiar songs. Good hard rock/grandfather of heavy metal sound. High 3

This album holds up pretty well over the 50 years since its release.

I had pretty high expectations after hearing the wonderful School's Out many many albums back. So this may have suffered a bit in comparison. It probably also doesn't help that Alice Cooper, the man, has been in the news lately for not-so-great reasons. But I found this to be very so-so and unshockingly "shocking." Did not pack the theatrical punch of School's Out. Too bad.

Started strong but liked it less and less the longer the album went on, Sorry Mr Cooper, not for me.

Cool sound probs won't listen agsin

His music doesn't match his persona... not in a good or bad way. Just unexpected. Decent, but also a little bit disjointed.

Yea not bad

Started off very vanilla but got kind of wild in the second half

Certainty just old classic “rock”. Nothing too memorable. I knew one song on here. The edgy “shock rock” stuff doesn’t age well. Kind of cringe.

enjoyed this a lot more than i thought I would, there were some really cool musical moments on here, but don't think I'll have much of an urge to return to it. 3.5 stars would be more accurate

Classic rock is classic. I love Billion Dollar Babies (maybe that’s the effects of Guitar Hero) and I wasn’t aware that No More Mr Nice Guy was on this album. Good listen. No downside.

A corny album, but one that leans into the gimmick and theatricality enough that I still had a decent time with this listen. The edginess is probably a bit too forced at times (namely the final track), and there's not that much complexity to these fairly formulaic rock tracks, but it's pretty consistent from track to track and fairly agreeable for the most part. There's some fun instrumentation that pops up at the end of R*ped and Freezin', and the sincere ballad / rag Mary Ann was a sparkly refresher that reset things after a few samey kind of songs. By no means a great album, there's plenty you could take issue with here. But, still some good old fashioned crummy rock and roll record I could groove with. Fave track: No More Mr. Nice Guy

Respect for the album, it's bananas and has an art rock Rocky Horror vibe through and through, but it's not all for me. A good chunk of it was eminently listenable though.

This is best graded on the curve of performance art and if one's not seen she the live shows, one supposes one can't judge this in the fullest context. Still, it's not particularly good performance art (which almost never proves durable – the had-to-be-there factor being as strong as it is). Still, it rocks pretty effectively at times in a not-exactly-groundbreaking glammy, full-on '70s sorta way. Sinatra's claim that they were the worst band ever was an overstatement, but not a wild one.

i don't really like it that much but it's pretty good

enjoyable. not 'shouty' enough to be tiring to listen to. the intonation is very of its time. no standout tracks for me
