Favorite Track: Elected

His sixth album. Goth / Rock. Maybe at the time this had more edge and meaning. Today it comes across as a parody album. A cliche, turn it up to eleven, Goth parody. It is fun though. 2.5 rounded up to a 3 on here.

The "shock rock" aspect of this album is best absorbed if the listener allows themselves to be taken back to 1973, because it certainly feels tame compared to some offerings that came in the decades following its release. But that's not being fair to the album itself -- you can tell Alice Cooper himself poured his heart into his performance. While the album's polished sound is quite respectable, I get the impression that seeing these songs performed live on the Billion Dollar Babies Tour following the album release would have been absolutely wild.

Need to check it out again

Man these albums are hard to get through.

not my type of music

I am lot particularly fond of glam rock or the shock rock aspects of this. 3 stars

Alice Cooper has always been a mixed bag for me. I think he has some good songs, but he also comes off as a little theatrical and cheesy at times. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Elected" are classics, but there's also a lot here that just comes off as trying to hard to fit this campy horror aesthetic that's probably not as shocking as was in 1973. 3.5 stars.

Pretty cheesy but also kinda small hints of classic. Not a billion dollars worth but maybe a couple of thou. Would have preferred it if it had School’s Out on it.

Some solid rock bangers in here. Definitely has a distinct sound that feels timeless in it's own way which I enjoyed. Obviously great vocals and performances across the board but there are too many misses on the individual song level for me to give this any higher than a 3/5

Not what I was expecting. So much more than the odd track I’ve heard from this time. Good un !

I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it. Maybe shocking at the time but they seem to be more tongue in cheek than serious.

My second Alice cooper album and I preferred the last one

A classic of its time, but showing its age now. The shock rock themes seem almost like a parody, although there are some monster guitar riffs lurking. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆ (6/10) Total reviewed : 309 Already owned : 69 Purchased : 15 To buy : 4 Nope : 221

Крепкий альбом, хиты в сердечке

Extra puntje voor enthousiasme

Cooper had some chops, never forget.

This was alright, didn't love it or hate it really. Some decent songs but not really my thing. Wouldn't listen again.

My first Alice Cooper album I've heard and enjoyed some their songs before. Overall this album was somewhat enjoyable but I do think theres better hard glam rock out there but still enjoyable 7/10 Favourite: Billion Dollar Babies Least Favourite: Raped and Freezin'

A bit meh

This didn't stick with me as much as Schools Out, but still a pretty decent album. Quirky but cool.

Pas trop mal mais c'est du rock quoi, assez oubliable

Quite strong themes, the hard rock is honestly not bad but the music is not melody-heavy

When I saw Alice Cooper on the playlist today, I realized I had never really listened to him (them?). Now that I have, I’m not blown away by anything here. The music is great. The vocals are great. The theatrics are great. There’s something lacking in my opinion. Not that it’s bad. I just don’t agree that this was music everyone should hear before they die. Great for teenage boys, but my musical tastes have matured far beyond this. I suppose you could compare this to Meat Loaf’s Bat Out Of Hell, but in that case the music and singing and songwriting are much better. 3 stars

about sick perversions, Bowie Unfinished sweet No more mr. nice guy

I liked this but it did feel very dated. I can imagine when this was released Alice would have been very edgy and a little shocking. In 2026 it feels a little more cabaret. Having said that the album is still worth a listen.

Not as bad as I was expecting it to be. Bluesier rather than dark. 2.7/5

I enjoyed my first Alice Cooper album (School's Out). This one was not quite as good, still a fun listen though. Best song: Hello Hooray

Overall: 6/10 While this didn't impress me as much as School's Out, I still got a lot of enjoyment out of it. Some of the songs were a little too simple for my taste, but the last half of this album is fulk of experimental and interesting songs. My biggest problem is Alice Cooper isn't a very good vocalist, but he makes up for it with tons of charisma. Fav Song: Unfinished Sweet

Pretty unremarkable. 2.5/5

3.5 - kinda cheesy but I liked it

It's fine. It's funny to me that as a kid I heard that — outside of "School's Out" — Alice Cooper was a really dark and scary band. The topics are surely intense sometimes, but I guess what's seen as normal has extended over the years.

Uvjjfkd

*1973 *Only 40 mins. *The opening song and No More Mr. Nice Guy are solid tracks. *I was pleasantly surprised at first - this sounded like a normal rock album and not what I traditionally think of as Alice Cooper (creepy and weird), but then the last few songs were exactly what I anticipated… Some funhouse piano music, bizarre lyrics, etc. RATING - 6.5/10

Easy to understand where the rocky horror picture show got it's schtick - enjoyable but not mindblowing

This feels a lot less like a circus compared to schools out

This is one of the most bland and uncreative albums I have ever heard from this era. And I really like AC, but this is nothing to my ears. I don't even know what to rate it, as I didn't dislike it, but I also will forget almost everything about it ten minutes after hearing it. Guess it really doesn't matter then, huh?

Man sometimes I wish I was a Billion Dollar Baby

not too bad, im not sure if i'd listen to it again but it wasn't bad

Had this on vinyl when I was young but hadn't heard it in years. Pretty good but sounds very much of it's time and certainly more glam than I remember. Hello Hooray is probably my favourite track.

Siempre que escucho ub álbum de los primeros de Alice cooper me pasa lo mismo y no puedo dejar de pensar que pudieron tirar más hacia el garage rock y depues el punk pero el heavy metal con influencias de blues estilo led Zeppelin vendía mas

I love how campy the lyrics are! Fun stuff! I wish I could hear this in 1973 and watch the old folks' heads explode.

i do quite like glam stuff but i've never been able to get behind alice cooper unfortunately. i like a lot of the instruments here but i can't see myself listening to this besides at a halloween party or something

I admit that I didn’t want to like this, perhaps not for any good reason. But it’s actually pretty good—I’ve been struck during this 1001 albums project that so much early 70s rock is profoundly theatrical, seemingly in dialogue with musicals of the time, and this one is no exception. It’s hard not to fall for the ragtime stylings of “Mary Ann,” for instance. I was less enamoured by tracks that leaned more towards metal, but overall this album was kind of fun.

Not at all what I was expecting for Alice Cooper. Meh? It’s ok. Basic 70’s rock. Had to skip several songs because they just didn’t do it for me, especially towards the end. Torn between 2 & 3 rating, bumping to a 3 because of No More Mr Nice Guy. (3)

Ágætis rokk og Alice er flottur. Frægasta lagið áberandi best. Soldið sull inn á milli en gaman af því.

Solid middle of the road rock.

The Svenghoulie of music.

Appropriately this is my 666th album, and I thought I knew what Alice Cooper was, and maybe the benefit of a few decades seems to mellow him out, but it was not at all what I expected

This is another album I enjoyed more as a "connecting the dots of music history" than the album itself. I hear the influence on The Stooges, Bowie and surprisingly the Beatles, and I hear how it influenced the likes of Green Day and Soundgarden. Much more camp than I was expecting. I spent most of the album thinking "I thought Alice Cooper was darker than this"...then came to the final track and there it was.

This kind of cartoonish, overwrought, shock-for-shock’s-sake kind of thing has never been my taste. But I acknowledge this is a great example of the style

This album was disappointing. I thought Alice Cooper was a more hard/metal figure, but this just sounded like The Beatles but rude. This is not meant as a compliment. Still, it was okay.

Enjoying this so far. The first three tracks were pretty good! I liked the horns in Elected. Gave it an oomph that some of the others didn’t have. The title track was fun enough. The Bond-esq guitar in Unfinished Sweet was pretty great. No more Mr nice guy was a bop. Slightly changing it up with Sick Things was very welcome. The piano in Mary Ann was good and I love the Dead ended it alright! Overall, there were a good few enjoyable moments in this album, but it didn’t really hit for me. 3/5 ⭐️ 80/1089

Better than expected

enjoyable!

Don’t mind but I don’t get what all the fuss is about.

I don't think I've ever actually listened to Alice Cooper before. I didn't realize they were established so early, I always thought of them as more of a late 70s glam rock kind of band. Like other early "hard" rock, the sound isn't as hard as their reputation.

I throughly enjoyed this fun and energetic rock album from Cooper! The thing about Cooper is he doesn’t have the best voice but he is such a showman and each of his songs are very theatrical that it works for me. Overall, I enjoyed this album listen and I look forward to listening to more Cooper in the future!

What an odd album

Totally enjoyable, but probably a “you had to be there” album. Live, it’s probably a riot. On its own, it plays like the cast recording of a very weird musical.

So much respect for creating what he did. And for his legendary cameo in Wayne’s World. The music doesn’t grab me though.

Not my thing, but honestly, I liked it.

I love his voice but was meh on the album

For some reason always a surprise when I listen to Alice Cooper. Great 70s rock album

Classic Alice. Hard outter layer, just an old softie in the center.

Netter gitarrenlastiger Rock-Metal aus den 70ern. Kann man gut hören, richtige Highlights habe ich für mich nicht gefunden. 3/5

It’s nowhere near the worst boomer rock thing from the 70s, which is more of a compliment than it may seem.

ну таке остання пісня це про шо..

It’s okay. I haven’t listened to much Alice Cooper, but I was a bit surprised by how tame it was. Definitely not what I expected compared to his look. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again

I had low low low expectations, but it was actually really fun.

Let’s be honest: Alice Cooper in 1973 was less of a rock star and more of a theatrical menace with a budget. Billion Dollar Babies is the peak of that "more is more" philosophy. From the moment the title track kicks in with that iconic drum fill, you know exactly what you’re in for, a lavish, slightly oily cocktail of vaudeville, hard rock, and the kind of macabre humor that makes your parents want to call a priest. It’s peak Alice Cooper Group, and they sound like they’re having almost too much fun spending the money they’re singing about. That said, while the highs are sky-high (I will defend "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and the sleazy charm of "Elected" until my dying breath), the album does suffer from a bit of "look at me!" syndrome. Some of the experimental flourishes feel like they’re trying to hide the fact that the songwriting is occasionally spread a little thin. It’s a spectacular circus, sure, but sometimes the clowns overstay their welcome just by a hair. It’s theatrical, it’s campy, and at times, it’s just a little bit exhausting. 7/10

Not too bad. Solid rock album.

A pretty good rock album that is refreshing in its lack of self-seriousness. Cooper has a classic, rough-and-ready voice and the songs are fine. Nothing that blew me away. “No More Mr. Nice Guy” has the strongest hook and would be the obvious hit even if I hadn’t heard it hundreds of times on classic rock radio.

Shock rock is seminal for a lot of acts I enjoy today, but other than "Mr. Nice Guy" that's not a lot here to love. There's plenty to like, though.

I think most listeners would kind of have to know what Alice Cooper was all about and know his schtick to enjoy this album. There's some twisted stuff on here! I like the (dark) sense of humor, I don't think they ever meant to be taken too seriously. This brings me back to high school days hanging out in my parents basement. 3.5/5

I still don’t k ow why this was so influential. It’s not bad but also not very interesting.

Pretty solid, 3 stars

This was a lot more calm and diverse of an album than I expected, based on his earlier work with the Stooges. Not half bad, though I think it's a little aged. Faves: Hello Hooray, Raped and Freezin', I Love the Dead

It sounds like the band figured out what their shtick was over the course of this album. And that is what it is: shtick. One of the shtickiest bands of all time. I knew that going into this. But, the first half of this album actually surprised me. It was fun, catchy, well performed, and the themes weren’t quite as creepy-coded as I thought they’d be. It seemed like a surprise 4-star power pop gem. But then the shtick kicked in, and the final few songs were as eyerollingly macabre as I’d gone in expecting from Alice Cooper. Look, it’s fun, it’s kitschy, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it’s a bit too goofy for my taste. So, a surprise 4-star first half, and an expected 2-star second half. It averages out to 3.

It's ok

This was probably more revolutionary in 1973 but since it is over 50 years later, it’s just kinda fine. I did like the production though. His voice could’ve easily gotten grating but I thought it was mixed well with the music.

Unfortunately this album doesn't live up to the experience of seeing Alice Cooper live, and i was disappointed by the seeming difference in energy between that and this. However, I did enjoy the really crisp production and the use of instruments and sound effects. Wasn't totally on board with what they were doing but they accomplished their goal of making a dark but funny and theatrical album.

Me gustó la composición, pero no es el tipo de música que suelo escuchar

This is my first time listening to a full Alice Cooper album. I had only previously heard a couple of Cooper tunes, including "School's Out". "Billion Dollar Babies" seems to be a paint-by-the-numbers 70s album. Just average glam rock stuff. The darker songs like "I Love the Dead" sound cheerful, compared to their subject matter. 3 stars for "Billion Dollar Babies"

Generally don’t like the whole performance rock but this was fairly well done and I even liked and knew a couple of songs

I did enjoy the James Bond music

I enjoyed it. Like the theme of the album a lot and they did a good job with it. Definitely some highlights.

I'm a fan of the early-70s heavy rock sound, so I enjoyed this well enough musically. That said, with the exception of ‘No More Mr Nice Guy’ which I liked a lot, the songs are mostly just decent (no particular outliers either positive or negative). The title track, ‘Unfinished Sweet’ and ‘Generation Landslide’ were probably the best of the rest. The band’s tongue-in-cheek, horror-styled shock-rock lyrics might have been transgressive at the time, but today they seem very tame, even a bit quaint. Certainly they're schlocky and gimmicky, which does limit their appeal. Still, there’s enough to merit 3 stars.

Straightforward rock with some dramatic flair thrown in. Mr. Cooper knows how to entertain. Rises a cut above standard classic rock. 3.5 stars.

Hello Hooray 3.7 Raped and Freezin' 3.6 Elected 3.4 Billion Dollar Babies 3.7 Unfinished Sweet 3.5 No More Mr. Nice Guy 3.8 Generation Landslide 3.4 Sick Things 3.2 Mary Ann 3 I Love the Dead 3.4 Score: 3.47

Underskattat band?

It has it's moments. It has many moments. Lots of cool changes. The songwriting is pretty creative but it doesn't really click for me into songs that I want to listen to.

This felt forced. Definitely not interested in Alice beyond a few key songs.

Mooi album maar je moet er wel echr voor gaan zitten om het in te kunnen nemen.

I was going in to this expecting to hate it but I was pleasantly surprised, not bad for a classic rock album

I quite like it but didnt make a huge impression

Neither hate nor love this album.

I was expecting a complete cheesefest, but this was a trashy rock record that's very self aware with how schlocky the whole thing is. Some elements do veer into the goofy territory, such as the dual vocals on the title track and some of the lyrics will have you rolling your eyes The shock factor may have worn off in the past five decades, but that doesn't stop it from being a fun listen. 'Unfinished Sweet' has a neat extended instrumental outro that shows off the band's technical chops and that there is talent behind the shock antics. This is worth your time if you are in the mood for some silly yet theatrical glam rock.

for 73 this was ahead of its time. early emo early hair metal early punk

Sounded a lot like Bowie. 3/5

I found this interesting. I was surprised.

Alice Cooper proving again that controversy sells. Despite the macabre subject matter, I was apathetic towards the album. Favorite song was the duet with Donovan (Billion Dollar Babies) ...what a strange mix of artists.

Never was a fan but I liked parts of it.

I like it - love it - like it .... oh, that's another album, but I like this one too!

A funny one. Classic rock with some lovely guitar but some of the songs were a bit on the odd side - deliberately so I’m sure. I’m sure I Love The Dead went down well with the broadsheets in the early 1970s.. Overall a bit of fun and enough of interest but nothing special. Compares poorly (but many would) to Black Sabbath.

Annoyingly I wrote a long detailed review on this and lost it all. Anyway bit like going to a jumble sale you never know what you are going to get. Its really excellent music but it flips back and forth and dips into themes and theatre I am not interested in. You even hear Elton John at times especially when the piano comes in. Dont think as a package it all works but certainly some excellent tracks in there.

This album swings from great to average, with a little more emphasis on average. There are some great moments of classic rock with meaty riffs and great drumming. 'Billion Dollar Babies' is a great track, if the whole album was in this style it would be a big winner. Unfortunately, a lot of the rest of the album somehow manages to fall a bit flat. It sounds like the potential for something great is there, but it hasn't quite managed to execute outside of one killer track.

Förväntade mig riktigt hård rock och vissa låtar var åt de hållet men generellt var de rätt trevlig bakgrundsmusik!

I get why it’s a classic rock album and on this list. Some great songs but not my favorite album/band.

Had only heard "No More Mister Nice Guy" going in, and after listening its still far and away my favorite on the album. Album was all over the place lol. I was expecting a lot more songs like "I Love the Dead", but was really pleasantly surprised by numbers like "Hello Hurray" which I could see having a place on the indie charts today.

Perfectly pleasant rock made for the radio. Well put together and easy to listen to, if hard to get excited about.

Never been a big Alice Cooper fan so it was better than I thought it was going to be.

2/3. This guy was a weird motherfucker, but the creepy horror rock vibe is pretty cool. Some solid playing, good vocals, and real entertaining degenerate shit.

It's hard rock from the 70s that stood the test of time, what more do you want?

3/5 - Classic rock quite catchy quite good - not obsessed

rlly not great

Taki klasyczny rock starych ludzi. Przyjemny wokal i szanuję prezencję sceniczną, ale no dość przeciętna ta płyta. Chyba cały rock zaczyna mi brzmieć tak samo. 6/10

ive seen alice cooper live and i was bored then too

Eh, it's okay. Like im not gonna tell my buddy that shit is a banger, but I'm also not gonna be like yo, dude, wtf is this. Right in the okay zone.

sympa mais je dois réécouter

The first track had an interesting rock opera vibe, that most of the other songs didn't emulate. A couple of the later songs had disappointing fade-outs that seemed to show a lack of imagination.

I like that Alice Cooper isn't afraid to get a poppy while still being a " hard rock" artist. For the most part, he pulls it off without getting to cheesy and shit, but I can understand why this alienates those who would consider themselves fans of the genre.

We are on the fence with this one. Some of the songs were decent and the others were lackluster. It can be said that you dont know what youre going to get with Alice Cooper

I actually thought I would like this album more. The sound didn’t pass the test of time and last few songs are pretty boring.

Not bad, but not remarkable either...

More familiar with Alice Cooper’s solo career than of the band, even as an Arizona native. This album was an interesting listen, but admittedly I didn’t take time to dig much further.

Actually enjoyed this way more than I expected and added "elected" to my singles playlist.

Not too bad. I didn’t like it as much as Back in Black.

I am so happy Alice is in the world, doing his particular thing I cherish quite a few of his albums, but in 2025, most I dont play too often For this album, I would recommend the Deluxe Reissue version, for the extra outtakes, which I really enjoyed hearing again

Enjoyable to listen to, nothing I didn't expect but fun to hear some deeper cuts

3/5 - pretty cool, not at all what I expected, I think I mixed up Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne

Shock rock? The only thing shocking about this is how bland it is /s. In all honesty it is fine, bit nothing I would really listen to again. It sounds like if your neighbor was doing 70's David Bowie karaoke. Mid 3.

I don’t really know what to think. There are a few good songs on here, like No More Mr. Nice Guy, Generation Landslide and I Love the Dead Inspired by The Who and inspiring Guns N Roses?

Boring shock rock with a few good tracks

It was alright. Didn't feel like anything special. No real desire to revisit.

Otippat.

Pretty fine. Props to Alice Cooper for writing something a bit more complex than the rest of the glam-rock scene surrounding him. Points taken for writing something not half as good as the classic rock scene around him. Fave tracks: - Billion Dollar Babies - Unfinished Sweet - No More Mr. Nice Guy - Generation Landslide

It’s a 3 from me

I like Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper has a theatrical bent that reminds me a little of Meatloaf. But the music is pretty good. My favorite song is Billion Dollar Babies. I also knew No More Mr Nice Guy -- that one's OK. Some songs are a little too out there for me, like I Love the Dead.

Was going to give thisb2 stars after the first couple of songs just because of how sonically conventional it was, but the later half mixes it up a bit more. Not bad, more just underwhelming.

This album was alright, there was one song that I knew, but the rest were alright playing in the background. Overall, it's okay but I know that it was pretty cool when it came out.

It was OK I preferred the other Alice cooper album

Favorite Track: No More Mr. Nice Guy

This one lands squarely in the “glad it exists, don’t need to evangelize it” zone for me. Billion Dollar Babies is undeniably well-made, and it’s impossible not to respect the ambition behind Alice Cooper’s glam-horror pageantry. You can hear the money, the polish, and the full commitment to the bit. But even with all that, I didn’t find myself falling in love with the record. “Elected” is a highlight—a sharp, swaggering satire that still works—and “No More Mr. Nice Guy” earns its long-term spot in the classic-rock rotation. The band is tight, the production is crisp, and the theatricality, for better or worse, is fully dialed in. The rest of the album, though, sits in a space where I appreciate the craft more than the content. It’s not weak enough to drop it to a two, but it never gives me the emotional or musical punch that would push it to a four. It’s a solid, competent, culturally important rock record that I’m glad to have heard… and I’m equally glad I don’t have to pretend it changed my life.

148/1001 :: Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies Heard before? ❌ Would I revisit? ❌ Rating: 6 Listen before you die: Yes This whole album felt very classic rock radio. Which, could be worse but also didn’t feel special either. I listened to these songs and thought; “wow Alice Cooper is a professional song writer”. A lot of these songs are very well constructed they just feel like they’re missing something special, and I guess that’s where the horror act comes in…

Det va litt kjedelig?

when i think of Alice Cooper i think pretty hardcore - mostly just because of his presentation. i don’t know much of his stuff. but this wasn’t super hard. it probably was for 1973 though which makes it very cool. because this is the hardest they could even conceive of back then (generalization but whatever). and it works really well to this day because we don’t have music that sounds like this anymore. because it doesn’t have to!

Ehhh...I don't know, it was okay, kinda more bland than I thought Alice Cooper was but it was better than the last two efforts I just suffered through so it gets a middling score

Fun album. Don’t think I would listen again but I like the concept and some songs.

Alice Cooper is a weird dude. This album was pretty much what I expected.

Kind of overrated. Definitely feels like it was carried by the big hit.

It's fine. Nothing special, I expected more from such a big name.

Quite good glamrock album, quite far removed from the Poison and Trash Alice Cooper I grew up with. I loved the title track and No More Mr Nice Guy, but none of the other tracks made a solid impression on me

The singing isn't very good.

Really can't stand how this album is mixed, I didn't like it at all to the point it affected my listening experience. Some lyrics are a lil too much. Enjoyed 'Generation Landslide' especially that lil harmonica break in the middle, was super fun. Wouldn't go out of my way to listen to this album again. 3/5 because of Gen Landslide, otherwise 2.

I enjoy it though don't have much of an opinion to share here.

I've heard of Cooper, nothing on this album except Mr Nice Guy. Immediately strong meh. I guess one thing about this whole task is the preceding album can have a big effect. Two mediocre glam rock albums in a row = ugh 2.5 rounded up Heard before? 1 track Owned: No: 27/104 (25%) Will I get? No

Decent slab of traditional rock/glam but it is dated.

NO MORE,.MR NCIE GUY NO MORE, MR YEE HEE HEE HEEE

Like it 3/5

The title song was great. There were some other highlight, but overall just an ok album.

Theatrical concept album that’s both pure 70s and pure Alice Cooper. Couple of standout tracks with the biggest being ‘No More Mr Nice Guy’

Nowhere near as awful as I expected.

I’ve never quite known what to do with Alice Cooper. Not the man, not the band, not the circus around it all. On the one hand there’s Halo of Flies, a sprawling, genuinely brilliant track I grew up admiring. On the other, there’s Poison — a cartoonish embarrassment that soundtracked the late ’80s in all its synthetic glory. Reconciling those two has always been impossible. Listening to Billion Dollar Babies again, carefully and with the best headphones I own, hasn’t helped. The album is part glam rock, part prog, part theatrical stunt — often all at once — and while that sounds intriguing in theory, in practice it mostly blurs together into something neither clever nor thrilling. The title track threatens to turn into an epic but never quite gets there; Unfinished Sweet wanders from sugary glam into a brief jazz-prog passage that’s far more interesting than the rest of the song; No More Mr. Nice Guy is fine, catchy enough, but hardly the classic it pretends to be. The record’s tonal confusion peaks with Mary Ann, a honky-tonk piano detour that feels like a dare — or filler. And when Cooper leans into his infamous “shock rock” persona on I Love the Dead and Sick Things, it’s hard to feel shocked or even amused. Mostly, it just feels like theatre that’s outlived its shock value. There are flashes of originality here, sure, but they’re buried under gimmickry. The result is an album that never quite decides whether it wants to be clever, scary, or just loud — and ends up being none of the three.

Fun, weird.

Apart from Poison had not really listened to Alice Cooper previously. Was expecting it to be harder/ more in your face - rather than fairly tame MOR rock - with some rather silly lyrics in places ( I love the dead ?) Enjoyed it much more than I was expecting with some catchy hooks/ chorus. Fav track: No More Mr Nice Guy.

Not what I thought Alice Cooper sounded like. Entertaining, some amusing lyrics, and discovered 'I wanna be Sedated' was modeled on 'Elected'.

Not really shocking anymore, just basic Hard Rock that feels dated, having lost its teeth, although it still manages to be kind of offensive. Like a grandpa with questionable opinions.

This one’s fine, but nothing really pulls you back in for another listen. “No More Mr. Nice Guy” is decent enough, but the rest doesn’t leave much of an impression. Not a bad album, just not a special one.

My ex-girlfriend twirled into my life with Alice Cooper and a love of comics. We were 19 and she was clearly too cool for me. I never listened to Alice Cooper, really. I should have. This is great, fun rock. Theatrical and camp.

Sounds like a musical soudtrack

some nice tracks here worth a listen

Billion Dollar Babies was an enjoyable album. Cooper is know for his theatrical live shows but he does have enough hits to compilaré a greatest hits album. A few of those coming from here. Billion dollar babies was a good song. As well as the Uber famous no more Mr Nice Guy. This album was experimental too.

Listened to it twice through, enjoyed it.

Didn't think i'd like any of this but I did.

This has some good moments but then there's some really dated moments

Alice Cooper based his entire character on what Gene Simmons was like after a 3 day bender with Len Houmous. 3.2 3/10 Elected

I don't know quite what I thought Alice Cooper was but I didn't know they was/were/is/are a pretty decent glam rock band/lead singer of himself Good music, though not always at the same height, first few songs pretty exciting and it gets into a pretty-good-not-great lull and then the final song brings it back

Pretty mild, it doesn't go as hard as it thinks it does. It's passable, even good, but not great.

6.5/10 Highlights: Elected Unfinished Sweet No More Mr Nice Guy

MOR rock.

Plus rock and roll que hard rock, je ne m'attendais pas à ça.

Certainly a classic Rock and Roll album and an influential one.

Decent listen.

Okay, I was ready to give this album (maybe?) 1 or 2 stars because the first 3 songs were so horrible (the album should have started with No More Mr. Nice Guy which is a banger) but luckily Billion $ babies was a good (not great song). But after that inauspicious start, the music/songs were good to great. I particularly liked No More Mr. Nice Guy, Billion Dollar Babies, Unfinished Sweet, I Love the Dead. But those first 3 songs almost ruined the whole experience for me. Then that 2nd side saved the album: 3 stars.

The over the top, flamboyant showman comes over on this album that’s for sure. Do I like it? Well, yes and no. It’s ok in places but overall it’s not really my thing

Theatrical american rock, with some unexpected instrumental elements and arrangements.

Surprisingly good

I've never been a huge Alice Cooper fan, he always seemed too much like a try hard, and the music was never really there for me. But I ended up liking this album more than anticipated. There are some really great moments like the spy-type chase scene sound of the song around 17 minutes in (I'm listening to a full play version on Youtube, so not sure the name of the track, but maybe Unifinished Sweet). No More Mr. Nice Guy is the only track I really knew here. Sick Things is a cool track as well, unique vibe to it. I love the Dead is a funny song, especially considering how much it must have freaked out society at the time. Probably a high 3/5.

the bit hit single certainly carries this far, but the vibes are good enough to keep me on board for the rest of it. Mary Ann is a great little slice of early 20th century American cabaret music. would love to see more of that in Alice Cooper's work. his grasp of showmanship is his best asset imo. get weird! deserves to be one of the 1001? for its importance to shock rock and glam, yes i think so

Blues/hard rock, but with an unexpectedly avant garde side. Sounds like a concept album or rock opera? Elected sounds like Sedated? Not as interesting throughout as I'd hoped. More Pink Floyd than Alice Cooper a la Poison or School's Out Best track - Billion Dollor Babies, Unfinished Sweet, Sick Things 3 stars

Странный альбом, не то что я лично ожидал от Элиса Купера. Такой чисто хардрок 80х, без глэм-рокерского налёта. Честно говоря, с музыкальной точки зрения не очень-то интересный. No more Mr. Nice Guy - клевая песня, остальное чет даже не запомнилось.

Decent but pretty forgettable classic rock album. Picks up after a rough start. Lyrics are cheesy as hell.

it's ok kinda generic sounding

not bad, has its moments

I sat with this album for a week! I do have a favourite Alice Cooper album but it's not this one. Saying that, I really enjoyed Billion Dollar Babies! I was close to giving this a 4 but instead settled on a 3. It was a bit to much 'shock' for the sake of shock rather than substance. Its hard to like a track with the word rape in the title. My challenge friend told me that this album could be summed up simply with the word 'Gay'. I agree, but wouldn't say it.

++: Raped and Freezin', Elected, Unfinished Sweet, Generation Landslide, Mary Ann, I Love the Dead +: Hello Hooray, Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy +-: Sick Things 7,0/10

This was better than i thought

Some really good bits in the album ruined by a bit of nonsense

5.5/10

I believe my only real prior exposure to Alice Cooper has been when he was a guest on the Muppet Show, so that may be contributing to crossed wires here... but at times on this album his voice does seem to me to have a muppet-like quality. not sure how I feel about that being paired with a tongue-in-cheek (ew) song about necrophilia. I did also watch a Mr. Bean sketch covering one of the songs on this album (thankfully *not* "I Love the Dead"). overall I was skeptical that I'd enjoy a shock rock album like this but it's actually pretty decent.

Ganz cool, ganz cool

Enjoyable 1970s hard rock delivered occasionally with tongue firmly in cheek.

I feel it’s open to interpretation whether he’s taking himself seriously as a “shock rock” act with edgy lyrics or more like a goofy halloweeny feel, for me it felt more like the latter so I mostly enjoyed it, definitely fits the season I got it in. Although, I find it funny this type of music was so controversial at the time and that it apparently horrified parents as other than the last song it’s just scooby doo vibes at its most extreme. The actual music itself was pretty cool and spooky which helped fit the vibe, especially on unfinished sweet with the ghostly chase ahh bass and the haunting guitar, the vocals were goofy but good and I could picture a cartoonish skeleton singing which pretty much sums ip the vibe I got from this album. Other thsn a few standouts though it was a bit generic or sometimes just weird (especially with the weirdness of sick things and the last song) but was pretty good in general. Favourites: title track, unfinished sweet and Generational landslide. Overall, 6/10.

Very interesting. I didn't love it at first but the B side grew on me. I think this one deserves a second listen. 2.5 outta 5

Może byc w tle w pracy, moze do auta samemu

Cringey and fun and who knows what else.

Alice Cooper is one of my favourite personalities in Rock history. A thrilling stage persona with a lot of honesty underneath. Hid music though never made me warm. It's not bad. It's actually solid rock. It just pales in contrast to other rock projects. Still glam rock remains one of my guilty pleasures.

The title track and "No More Mr. Nice Guy" are Alice Cooper classics. That said, I don't think his stuff has aged particularly well. He has a fantastic live stage show and really brought a lot of interesting ideas into rock music as presented in concert. The actual songwriting, both music and lyrics, is definitely fun and also a bit pioneering in terms of "shock rock". "I Love the Dead" feels like it was just put on there to make parents angry and sell records LOL

Not for me. Kinda cheesy. Of it's time I suppose. Learnt that The Ramones I Wanna Be Sedated is 100% a rip off of Elected. 2.5/5. Raising to 3.

Hairmetal, I think?

Alright

Some of the least shocking shock rock out there. It feels like the soundtrack to a spoof version of Stephen King's IT, but way less interesting than that description sounds.

This was less fun than the other Alice Cooper, No More Mr Nice Guy was a banger though

Not his most recognisable hits but proves there is a lot more to his art than the loud public persona.

Worth the price of admission alone for ‘Elected’ (which also brings back fond memories of the 90s Rowan Atkinson/Mr Bean cover version with Bruce Dickinson, lead singer of Iron Maiden). But the rest of ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ is a lot of a fun too, equal parts, camp, glam, and very, very theatrical.

Fun listen. Thought some of the grooves and riffs were pretty cool and some of the songs are really eccentric. Would probably need to hear it some more to really get into it though.

3.5. Wasn't terrible, but it was just fine, standard rock

Really has its moments. Still didn’t quite hook me

Alice Cooper's "Billion Dollar Babies" seems a bit out of date for me. It was definitely something special in the 70s, but today it's rather unremarkable. Still, I like "Hello Hooray" and also "No More Mr. Nice Guy." I was never a big Alice Cooper fan, and I never will be one.

Underwhelmed me. Its not bad at all. But I wanted it to be darker, heavier. But it was mostly inoffensive in its sound.

4/5 for the music; 1/2 for the lyrics. Strong early 70s glam-ish sound; the shock jock vibe is just stupid. I find it interesting that both Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath state that they are influenced by horror films yet come up with such different expressions of that idea. Is the difference post-WWII US vs UK? Or just the individuals in each group?

Not bad, although chances are I'll never listen to it again. It's funny that he's considered this heavy metal "godfather of shock rock" because it all sounds pretty tame!

Perfectly acceptable rock and roll with a touch of glam pomp. Groundbreaking? No. Enjoyable? Sort of. Forgettable? Very.

Somewhere on the journey from The Beatles to glam rock, there is Alice Cooper. You can hear the times -- a little Bowie here, a little Ian Gillan there. The real question is what shock rock holds for us when there's no shock remaining in it -- something I've always wondered for a medium that requires no visual engagement of the listener. I didn't clock anything shocking about the music itself. Standouts: 'No More Mr. Nice Guy', 'Generation Landslide'. In the end, this is a perfectly good record of radio-friendly rock from the early 70's. You'll also hear some callbacks to 60's guitar and to future 70's and 80's hard rock frontmen (Diamond Dave owes something big to Alice Cooper). But that doesn't make it a great record, just another puzzle piece to add to our other 1000. 3/5.

Fav songs: Sick Things; I Love the Dead I find the idea people back in day thought Alice Cooper was scary and satanic precious and quaint. It's so obviously a schtick- see 'I Love the Dead'. It makes me laugh. I listened to the Satan Spawn of AC when I was a kid and they were Marilyn Manson. That band was truly gross. "Antichrist Superstar" still bangs for the most part. As for AC, I prefer my shock rock a little grittier and moister. Looking at MM, you know the stench has to be horrible. AC is a statesman and smells accordingly.

First checked this album out as a teenager after seeing Wayne's World for the first time. I think it's pretty competent rock and roll but it's not something I think I'll revisit

decent vibe but i wouldnt revisit

Highlight Song/s: No More Mr. Nice Guy and Mary Ann Lot of the songs are really poppy which surprised me, as I always thought of Alice Cooper as a hard rock musician; perhaps on other albums, but not this one. Probably more glam rock than hard rock. I thought this album was overly tame and I felt underwhelmed, perhaps I'm desensitised from other music I've listened to and that maybe this album really did push boundaries in the early 70s, but because I'm not 50 years old I just don't get it and the appeal of early 70s hard rock. Some things from the songs themselves that stood out: 'Elected' reminds me a lot of the American Dad intro 'Billion Dollar Babies' has a really cool opening riff The chorus of 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' is amazing 'Mary Ann' is a really sweet interlude track 'I Love the Dead' has a cool cabaret feel to it

Not what I expected. It was fine

Not bad per se, but I had aways envisioned Alice Cooper's music to be more... hard rock. Kinda felt pretty tame in all honesty. 3/5

hello hooray afoch cute 70er rock sehr tonal sehr mitsinge musig. scho au sehr glam. de breakdown/bridge teil isch sehr cool. he raped and freezin findi als titel chli schwierig?? nöd ideal? aso de song an sich isch cool, super soli vode gitarre nüt speziells. elected chli meh schreirock aber musikalisch isches mega standard 70er rock. i guess d text sind vor 50 johr huere schockierend gsi wells halt mega un perversione goht und so. und d live show mit babypuppe verrisse schono cool haha. aber es tönt im ernst sehr bubble gum? unfinished sweet isch etz chli meh experimentell und finds no cool? so mitem crazy distorted bass, de surfgitarre und so. geil. mary ann isch sehr cute gsi. klavier sehr sehr geil gspielt. i love the dead isch funny, aber gohtmer etz bitz uf de sack. guets album, finds recht stabdard 70er rock.

hahaha und jz alice cooper?? isch natürlich legendär aber kenn das album nöd würkli ussert natürlich no more mr. nice guy ah lol oder doch, hell hooray kenni glaub? de refrain isch megaaa alice cooper raped and freezin findi fast zu fröhlich für de titel😭 jaaa typisch cooper bis jz, voll easy aber nöd meh billion dollar babies isch na cool! I love the dead isch komisch aber iwie na cool? ouh scho fertig hmm jaaa schlecht ischs nöd aber hetmi nöd vom stüehli ghaue. hii und daaa cooli parts aber jo, leider nöd meh

Fairly average 70s rock with a couple of decent tracks and some laughably quaint attempts at shock. I feel like I preferred 'Schools Out'.

Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Still not the biggest Alice Cooper fan...but this album was much better than expected.

Eclectic but interesting. Liked it more than I thought I would.

A few good songs, the rest were pretty forgettable. Figured there'd be better stuff on an Alice Cooper album. 3/5

Pretty decent. I often find Cooper a bit try hard. And this certainly is ostentatious. But most of the music is good, but not all that essential for me. 3.5/5

I have very mixed feelings about this album. On the one hand, the instrumentals are absolutely incredible. On the other hand, I can’t stand Alice Cooper’s voice. A lot of the songs are ruined by poor vocals. Musically it’s incredible, but vocally it’s shit. Standout Songs: Elected No More Mr. Nice Guy Generation Landslide

3.5/5. Feels like the last day of school in good ol Austin town.

Alright

furðu ljúft rokk. ekki mikill málmur í þessu. óeftirminnilegt.

It's OK, but nothing too special. I guess at the time it was interesting, but I don't think it sounds that exceptional 50-odd years down the line. Some good singles in there.

Not bad. The songwriting was good. The themes seem to be still relevant today. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I felt like the entire track was produced like a comedy skit. Favourite Track(s): Mary Ann Least Favourite Track(s): I Love the Dead

Fav track: No More Mr Nice Guy.

p308. 1973. 3 stars. Early 70s shock rock, badly dated but saved from obscurity by a handful of decent singles. How easily offended we all were in our youth ;)

Quite an oddment. Comes from some netherspace between high camp vaudeville and classic glam rock. Has a track that goes from sounding like Twisted Sister, turns into someone having their teeth drilled then off into a long surf rock middle eight, some widdling prog, ends up back where it started ready for a backmasked psych rock double fade out. If you feel that you’d like to listen to the same sort of music as Otto, the school bus driver from The Simpsons, get this.

I always thought that Alice Cooper was just theatrics and Grand Guignol but this album has an interesting set of songs, at least from a musical perspective with well produced 70s rock. The lyrical content is a little more dubious, with songs about psychopathic dentists, necrophilia and the less said about Raped and Freezin’ the better. On the plus side, Elected covers the subject of corrupt politicians with sharp observations written while Richard Nixon was in charge, and is unfortunately even more relevant today.

A couple of saves here

Bien, de rock, me gusta alice cooper

didn't hate it as much as i expected to

This was really funny

Solid 3. Never heard anything from him but his hits, and he is actually a pretty cool rocker!

Thoughts before listening: I have been pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed Alice Cooper on here. I mainly know him from the hits and the campy stage persona, but there is a bit more depth to his album work. I know the title song on this one but not much else. Review: Actually, I missed "No More Mr Nice Guy" which is one of my favorites. There are a lot of cool musical ideas going on with Alice Cooper albums, at least the ones that have been on this list. He's really more of a glam rock artist than the hard rock/metal scene I've always lumped him in with. I just wish he didn't write cheesy horror shock songs. I don't need to sit around listening to songs about rape and "loving" the dead. This is 3-stars.

I was really looking forward to this. And I liked it. But less than I thought I would. I even listened twice to be sure. A bit of a mix, and more punky than expected. A high 3 I think.

This is alright. I love 70s rock music, but I feel with Alice so much is about the theatrics and you don't get that from just the audio. The production sounds a bit lacking, so it didn't blow me away, but the songs are fun. I dunno, I think I want to like it more than I do. He's incredible live though.

Not for me. Thought it was going to be far heavier b

Quite funny lyrics lol alrightish!

do people genuinely listen to this

Tamer than I expected.

Definitely not the best Alice Cooper album but still alright.

Classic 70s. I liked a lot 🤘

Solid Classic rock.

Норм, и явно очень влиятельный автор, учитывая релиз в начале 70-ых. Лучшая песня - No More Mr. Nice Guy.

Felt like a middle of the road 70s rock album. Better than I expected. I was hoping that I'd leave this with a new appreciated for Alice Cooper, but they're just as I remembered them being.

cooler than i was expecting but not by much. the noodling on "Generation Landslide" is very fun at least

51/100. Aside from No More Mr. Nice Guy, which is a clear standout, the rest of the album ranges from forgettable to downright unenjoyable. The glam rock theatrics and songwriting just didn’t land for me, and the final few tracks felt like a slog to get through. Not my thing overall.

I wanna be elected c'est le père de I wanna be sedated des Ramones? Groses guitares.

Maybe not revolutionary but essential rock of the 70’s

Some good moments, but not sure I’d go back to it regularly.

It was fine. There's so many better hard rock options on this list though.

My first pass this was only a two. It took a second listen to start to grow in me. I don't see myself coming back but I'm glad I was here for a spell.

A pleasant surprise, in the way that things often are when your first reaction is 'I would rather chew my own ear off than listen to this'. But actually, it wasn't subtle, it wasn't sophisticated, but it was good fun and I'm glad it exists, so well done Alice.

This album surprised me. I always try to keep an open mind when listening to this list, but my preconceived notions of Alice Cooper was that they were a little forced and corny. This album had some corny, campy, cheesey, forced moments but it wasn’t to over the top, even though “I Love the Dead” was a poor choice to wrap this album up. This was 40 minutes of solid rock n roll. The music was great, and Cooper himself was great. Lyrics were a bit simple, but never a downside of a song. These dudes put together a really strong album that deserves to be on this list. You can hear influence from this album in so many acts from the late 70s to the mid 90s. I will definitely be checking out more of their catalog. 7.1/10 #53/1001

Alice Cooper was pretty campy, but fun. I can't see me revisiting this all too often though. I appreciate its place in the development of later heavy music forms. 3/5 Album 63/1001

When I saw this I thought, "yeah this will be great!", but it wasn't as good as I imagine. I guess I was expecting something different. There were some good songs, "Elected" for instance and obviously "No More Mr. Nice Guy". Vocals aren't superb.

Okay album. Nothing really stood out from it though.
