Reviews (page 11 of 15)

No es mi estilo, pero definitivamente las canciones en este álbum son buenisimas

Finding funk unfun

This is a pretty fun album. I think it's probably a case where if I head any of these songs in isolation, I'd be on board, but I don't think I'd ever get the itch to listen to a full album of it. Still, the influence is undeniable, and there's some great stuff here, particularly "Give Up the Funk" and the title track. 3.5 stars.

Has one thumping funk banger with the opener “Make my funk the P Funk, I wants to get funked up”. After that the funk gets a lot more basic n bread n butter n boring and also the funky narration n voiceover gets stale really quick. The essential ingredients on this you can find wholesale on Dr Dre’s The Chronic and George Duke did this kind of P Funk better on hits like Reach For It and Dukey Stick. Low 3.5 stars. “Make George Duke my P Funk. I want to get Duke’d up.”

Bon, vraiment pas mon type de musique mais c'est groovy, ça s'écoute bien Morceau mémorable : Give up the funk

It was definitely funky, not entirely my vibe but still vibed to it.

Influential and fun, what's not to like? Well, for me this is an album that I just can't fully connect with for some reason. Maybe I'm just too boring for this. 5/10

Really (and I mean reallyyy) loved the first half of this album. Second half wasn’t bad, just not my cup of tea. 3.5 ⭐️

Started off loving this funky celebration, got bored with the sameness in the middle but it redeemed itself with Give Up the Funk. Nearly got four stars.

I'm not that into funk but the album seems nice

funky!

"P-funk" and "Mothership Connection" are fine, but i dont feel anything from it... Maybe its the genre, i am not a fan of funk in general. Seens like some disco thing. "Unfunky UFO" its good, i love the bass on this song, even not liking the whole happy and dancin vibe. "Give up the funk" is also pretty good, same dancin vibe. Well, funk is all about dancin. The bass reminds me of queen, what is a good thing. The last song was a whatever, it is not memorable. As a whole, a solid album, yet not something to listing again. Even for dance or in partys, there is better songs and albums. I guess its very of niche, not for a lot of people enjoy. 3/5.

147/1089 a very fun and funky project, such an easy listen. a good example of what i’m doing this project to find faves: Mothership Connection, Unfunky UFO 68/100

Quite a tough one to rate. Some bits I really did enjoy, especially towards the middle, but the start and ends of the album were a bit underwhelming. That last song sounded like someone was shitting themselves throughout it, kinda ruined it a tad. In general I prefer funk faster to this. However I can appreciate how well done this one was and how smooth it is. High 3

Was cool but wouldnt listen frequently

Got funked up, had a good time. But, I need to be in the right mood to listen to this album again. A+ dancing music, B- sitting and listening music Top song: Give Up the Funk

Whilst this is not really to my tastes, I can see it’s an important milestone in the history of music. And paved the way for a lot of the hip hop and R’n’B that was to follow. It just all blends into one for me after a while, take a funky bass line, add some horns, maybe a synth line, Clinton talking some gibberish and/or the chorus line singing something repetitive, then keep it going for 6 minutes or so. Happy to have listened to it, but not likely to return any time soon.

Super funky. I loved it. The last song sounded like farts though.

Funkkia, ei ainakaan parasta sellaista. Vähän futuristisen kuuloisia synia. Mut ok. Parhaat: Unfunky UFO, Give Up The Funk

Im still not huge on the whole funk thing. Maybe it's me, maybe it's funk. But it all boils down to wockawocka wow wow chicka chicka bowwww. This has some nice instrumentation though, so I liked it more than most funk. 3/5

I was excited for this album. What a letdown. The album wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable. I only remember my rating, not even what I had to say about it.

Very good but I didn't like it.

This album turned me into a martian

Fun and funky, this album reminds you that they’re playing funk. A lot. I enjoyed each song individually and would play most of them at any given event, but the songs definitely blended together as they weren’t demonstrably different song to song. Still, I enjoyed it and will certainly listen to Give Up The Funk again.

I enjoy Parliament but find the music to be a bit repetitious at times.

Is this a great funk album? Probably. Do I like funk? Evidently not much.Do I think this would be much better live? Definitely. Saying that, I did think all this before the album started playing again and I was then singing along myself, so I may be lying a little too myself. Still, while I don't think I'll be seeking out more funk, I won't turn it off.

Normal funk, but I liked the concept.

A sonic experience. Total headphones record. It's so ubiquitous a sound that it wears a little repetitive after nearly 50 years. Can't imagine what a party one of these shows would have been back in the day.

Very smoooooooth funk

I remember playing Give Up The Funk in my high school pep band.

An unexpected sample from a Snoop Dogg song is always a welcome surprise. I like the funk but some of those songs were a little too funky. Would be heat at the club though.

A fairly standard funky affair - perhaps not up to the heights of Flash Light, but there are some fat slabs of funk here for sure. Favourite tracks: P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up), Mothership Connection (Star Child), Handcuffs, Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker).

This was pretty good and Ican think that people thought this was ot of the ordinary in 1975. Couple of groovy tracks, but couple of lame ones too.

Good old Funk with a view hits

abc123

I'm not into funk, but this is F.U.N.K!!!!!!!

Easy funk

Not a huge funk fan but hard not to dance listening to this album.

Although not my style of music typically, this was quite the vibe and I heard the origination of so manu influences.

George Clinton, as important as he is to the funk movement, recently collaborated with Dance Gavin Dance. I'm not really sure how that was arranged nor why it sounds good. Also, Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples is mostly farting noises

I didn't hate it but i didn't love it. It was pure funk. Each song sounded a lot a like, really playing into the funk sound. I danced along, but it wasn't anything super special or different.

I had this album in rotation 20+ years ago and I most remember it for being the alol out funk fest thst it is. I love the vibe but never fell head over heels for the album overall. I definitely feel the same way now. Great 70’s funk party vibe that holds its own in any decade. 3.5 stars

Ok but not really my.style - sure someone else's though, thx !

This album was like nothing I have heard before! I was really enjoying it in the beginning of the album but towards the end I was losing the desire to listen

Allora 40 min di funk un po’ too much, però magari presi singolarmente i pezzi sono belli

First listen, but I re-listened to it later in the day. I've never actually sat down and listened to a pure funk album before. The closest I've gotten are the smatterings of funk on TPAB (as well as a host of other albums, I'm sure), on which George Clinton fittingly enough features. Mothership Connection sounds really good; good enough that I was willing to give it a second listen, even. It has a ton of personality; I love the spoken word opening section, and the repeated 'ga-ga-goo-gah's on the closer, for instance. Still, maybe it's just because I lack the exposure to the genre necessary to really appreciate it, but it didn't really excite me enough to give it a 4. It got pretty repetitive in certain sections; particularly on the penultimate track. Still, I liked it. It was fun. Fav. Track: Unfunky UFO Reaction: 🙂

Ending this list on the funkiest album on this list was a decision I didn't expect... But here we are

This was fine. About what I expected as far as funkiness. It’s almost humorous.

Undeniable grooves. Killer synths. The songs are barely there, which makes a close listen a little repetitive. That’s not the point, of course.

„Mothership Connection“ von Parliament erschien 1976 und gilt als eines der zentralen Werke des Funk. Die Band um George Clinton, bestehend aus US-amerikanischen Musiker:innen, nahm das Album in den United Sound Systems Studios in Detroit und den Sound Ideas Studios in New York auf. Es vereint Funk, Soul und Jazz mit einem ausgeprägten Sinn für Humor und Science-Fiction-Ästhetik. Songs wie „P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)“, „Mothership Connection (Star Child)“ und „Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)“ wurden zu Klassikern des Genres und prägten den Funk-Sound der späten 1970er-Jahre nachhaltig.

Good, but not amazing.

Funny album. But a bit annoying. And not so funky.

Out there sounds and funk grooves that will sampled until the end of music.

Funk yea! Never realized how many rap artists stole from Parliment!

I’ve never actually truly listened to the 1975 before. Enjoyed it, but don’t feel like I’ve missed out.

Interesting that so many songs feel too slow to dance to. It's an intellectual exercise on the nature of One. 6/10

C’est chill

Not a big funk guy, very repetitive, but enjoyable

This was a fun funk time. Nothing all that special.

Listened to on RS list (#363). Fun and funky. "Give up the funk" is a classic

Nach de erste tön sehr moti uf widermal es tops funk album gsi! Spass gha, aber au ned uf en andere Planet katapultiert, und das, obwohl ich ja Timon G-Funkmon heisse. 3 Funky Funkster

Fönkyyy Aber au biz too much wo lauft i de songs zum na besseri bewertig z becho. Amber wür em 4 geh, michele isch aber streng und gid 3 hoseknöpf

I have my sunglasses on, and I'm feeling groovy, but ... this didn't quite groove enough for me.

Solid...enjoyed the funk.

I enjoyed this album

They said they would deliver the funk and delivered as advertised. Its clearly a live band and this album just lays the groundwork for their shows.

Not my thing really, but as with most of these albums - enjoyed the fact I am listening to a breadth of music I wouldn’t otherwise dig out

I see where Dr. Dre got all his samples!

It was very good melody with my favorite song being handcuffs which was a amazing funk listen but the rest of the songs felt a little repetitive. Sound like an album that can act as amazing sample for rap and other music. 6/10

This is indeed funky, but I don't think it is really sticking for me. Not quite my thing beyond being decent background music I guess. Unfunky UFO is good though!

Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication walked so Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik could run.

(70/100)

It was ok. Kindof repetitive.

Really enjoyed this.

Almost TOO funky for me to handle

Great moments are great

This album is the DNA of half the hip-hop samples I’ve ever heard

This was FUN

Solid fun funk album here. Little samey at times but it’s pretty good

Heard of Parliament but never actually listened to their music before. Can't say no to funk, it was fun to listen to 3/5

It's fun, but it does get a little repetitive.

Tulevaisuus funkia. Oikein hienoa

Enjoyable, but not my style. ★★★

Gotta love the funk.

funky but boring

Auténticos hitazos de funk, me gusta mucho como desarrollan este estilo que, en algunos álbumes me llega a aburrir pero no es el caso.

It's ok. Good for what it is I suppose.

A true three. Straight down the middle, no questions asked

Sounds to strut to

Funkalicious

Funky and high energy. I liked it much more than I expected.

very funky although the song where they said googoo gaga x10000 was a bit of a drag

Super funktastic!

Está guapo, las dos ultimas mis favoritas.

Funky, but too much lyrics.

now i know where another part of a riff off from pitch perfect is from lol but very fun album

I'm enjoying the concept album lol. It could be because I'm listening to this album at 3:30am in a library hyped on adrenaline, caffeine and impending doom but I'm really enjoying this T_T It wouldn't be on my usual rotation but I found it really enjoyable lol. Solid 3! Top Songs: Mothership Connection (Star Child) Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication (The Bumps Bump)

So ridiculously good and fun.

ayyyy what the hell are we sayin man? I got no idea man I'm just hungry and talkin about the galaxy and trains, I think they buyin it tho

El funk no falla nunca

solid funk. still feels fresh.

Extra funky. It was fun but probably wouldn’t listen to again

Funk, Funk & nothing but the Funk. Enjoyed it but I was a little disappointed and I've seen Parliament live.

Enjoyed the back half more than the first 3 songs

My first official funk album! The energetic grooves on this album deeply entertained my ears. I don't think I would have listened to this on my own, but I really enjoyed having it on.

bunicel da prea lung

I completely understand the importance of some of these records, and while somewhat entertaining this record just doesn’t really connect with me. Again, I get the influential nature and importance, just didn’t really like it that much.

Nice songs! Eventually got boring, but I still appreciate it

Funk, funk, funk. Perfekt bakgrundsplatta. Inget man sätter sig och lyssnar koncentrerat på. Men, bra!

It was fun and there are some great songs!

This is pretty good. If you were a fan of 90s hip hop then you have heard most of this album already. Deserves to be on the list.

Very very fonky I like

Silly, fun, and enjoyable! Took me a bit to get into it - the second listen sold me. Interesting to hear the Mothership Connection (Star Child), which has definitely been sampled by Dr. Dre/Snoop

Funk concept album. Solid album, all tracks are consistent and pretty good. Best track - Unfunky UFO, Supergroovalistic..., Give Up The Funk 3 stars

Farting frogs? Not for me, no, Sir...

They talk the funky talk, but do they walk the funky walk? Somewhat.

Svängig funkfest. Men kanske roligare att vara med på festen själv än att lyssna på den. Har också lite svårt för crazyfunken.

We need the funk.

Funk can be a little goofy and "cringe" at the best of times. But got dang do i love busting down to some funk and this is the good stuff. It aint Larry Levan though. 7/10

70s funk. One of the most influential funk albums. Fun space concept.

I enjoyed this, love the funk vibes I’d never even heard of Parliament before

3 1/2 stars

Not what I would have personally chosen to listen to, but I hear the heavy influence it's had on later music, and it had my kid dancing.

Never heard it before, it's funky, I quite like it. Not sure how often I'd listen to it but it was a fun listen.

This is good, it's just not for me. 3.5.

It was good, but mostly faded into the background. The album cover is beautiful and really stands out. It strikes me as the kind of record that’s been sampled a lot by rappers — there’s something in the sound that feels familiar in that way. Give Up the Funk is the obvious highlight here, a great tune that still holds up.

Was oke

Crazy, Funky and Psychedelic!

Starlord would probably love it but that doesn't mean I do

Funky!

Funk, good beats 7/10

I'm sorry once again, I should've listened more attentively... All I can say is it didn't blow me away. Maybe it would've, had I listened a bit more focused

Definitely funky, definitely also enjoyable but not anything amazing

Pleasantly surprised! Count me shocked! Modern funk and soul!

i like this kind of concept album—it’s really easy to see how the format (LP) informed the record’s storytelling and narrative/musical arc. fun and cool!!!

Too funky

I quite liked the funk vibe, but wasn’t mind blowing

Truly evocative funk from the 70s. almost impossible to listen to without accompanying psychedelic trippy visuals, like Saturday morning animated cartoons featuring cultural and astrological voyages. Not really my cup of tea, and hard to just listen to the album on it's own. I can't imagine what going to a live performance would be like, unless accompanied by one hell of a light show or some choice psychedelics...

Solo lo he escuhado una vez pero esta bien

Funk normally turns me off but I really enjoyed this

Since I’m not into funk I can only say it is definitely funky Funky with hip hop influences in the vocals Fav song:

Very funky, enjoyed it, good listen

Some funky beats!

Good not great. Didn’t know this is where Dre lifted Let Me Ride

Liked what I heard of it, need to listen to it all

Well ain’t this funky. A bit interesting as there’s this weird extraterrestrial funk theme they spend a reasonable amount of time on in the first few tracks, but given it’s so funky it sort of works in a whimsical way? I’d say it’s “accessible” funk, in that it’s not ramming really loud vocals or excessive sax solos down your earnoggins, and genuinely enjoyable. Maybe just a bit done with it all by the time I got to the last couple of tracks.

This album is funky. It's funky from start to finish. And if you were ever at risk of forgetting how funky it is, it reminds you every song that it's really funky. I enjoyed it as a passing interest and pretty sure I can hear lots of bits that I have heard sampled in various pop mixes since. I accept it's relevance but not my genre.

Not bad for when I’m in the mood to FUNK

Not bad at all

Fun and funky funk that makes me feel funky.

If I hear the word funk again I'm going to scream

Some og funk , sign me up

Maybe this ain’t for me

P-Funk is extremely good and I already knew Give Up the Funk. Overall, just one song really catched my attention in a big way, but I still appreciated the instruments and the funky vibes.

The singing style mixed with spoken word is kinda cool. The backing tracks for this album have an otherworldly sound to it. I didn't like length of the songs on this album, as I feel like I've heard everything the song has to offer in the first 3 or so minutes and so it starts to drag for the rest of the song. So when EVERY song is like that, it made the album really tiring.

Classically good funk. Good vibes and fun times rolled into one album

As I’ve gotten older I’ve leaned into funk and really dig it. Interesting to read that this album was the early influencer for other funk. Obviously Give Up The Funk is top-tier. I did mostly like the album as a whole, but what grated on me was the talking over the music. The singing was excellent but oh so much talking. Will listen to again.

Funky!

Funkiest shit, wel beetje veel van hetzelfde. "Give Up The Funk" is iconic.

Funky funky... wish the songs (besides The Known One) were catchier

I now realize Dr Dre ripped this entire thing for The Chronic. Might need depression meds. First half is better than second half, funk never really seemed to grab me in general.

Begint leuk, zeker voor herhaling vatbaar, en wat nummers die mogelijk leuk zijn voor in een afspeellijst.

71/100. Had higher expectations going into it as I like what I’ve heard from them, was a little disappointed

Слишком однообразная и монотонная музыка для меня, 5,5 из 10.

Nostalgic 70’s Nice n funky jams with some great bass lines.

Not quite a 4 but fun

It was okay.

# Album Name: Mothership Connection # Artist: Parliament # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: WARNING, WARNING - Extreme funk alert. Too much tbh. Was alright # Top Tunes: F knows # Would I listen to it again? No

Funky! A mellow vibe.

Liika on liikaa, vaikka tämä pfunk-soundi olikin ihan miellyttä. 3 mennään.

Leppoisia ja swengaavia kappaleita. Kokonaisuudessaan hyvän mielen levy.

Appreciated the vibes , doubtful I'd listen again to the whole album but can see why it was nominated, lots of recognisable samples!

sonically I really enjoyed the album, but lyrically it absolutely turned me off of it. big fan of the synth and the low vocals, but the repetition in the last song, and the lyrics of ‘handcuffs’ were just. kind of awful! it’s one star lyrically and 4 stars in how it sounds so it gets three.

Yeah this is freakin cool as ice, straight from the get go there is some serious groove here👌 I feel it's definitely an album to listen to out loud rather than through headphones though. So give it a go at least once. Turn the bass up, turn the volume up. I really liked this. Can't say I've ever listened to a funk album before either. Some great songs on this one for sure, featuring the legendary track 'Give up the funk' which most of us would know or at least would recognise. If you hear it you'll know it. An album I'll come back for a listen from time to time for sure. Groovy baby.

This is pretty groovy but not many catchy songs besides Give up the funk

Maybe I don't like funk

Standout Songs: P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up) Unfunky UFO Handcuffs

Decent songs. Was catchy but extremely repetitive 3 ⭐️

Not bad, was jamming until the last song. 3*

Enjoyable but the same issues as every funk album I’ve been given so far so repetitive enjoy the first few minutes of a song then there’s still another 5 minutes left of it, however the first funk album I’ve not skipped to the end of a song

Awesome groove, though some of the songs feel too long and repetitive.

How many times is the worf "funk" and it's various iterations used on this album - and in such a wide array meanings. It's a noun (the funk), adjective (funky _______) and verb (as in "to funk"). Certainly a lot of rhythm going down. p.s. which is a more awesome spell check stumper - thumposaurus on mothersucker?

Wild and weird, but enjoyable. Favourite songs include Give Up The Funk, Unfunny UFO and Mother ship Connection. You can see how it has led to so many other influences in funk, disco and pop music going forward. Also love the concept and album art.

Funk isn't really my style but I found the album entertaining enough

Favorite Track: P-Funk

Funk-Musik aus den 70ern. Eine wilde Sound-Kombination. 3/5

It's fun, but nothing I'd come back to

6/10 Could have been 4 stars - the best bits are great, although the 1st track has my least favourite elements of meandering.

2.5/5.0: Mixed

Sparse but funky.

I expected to like this much more than I did.

WOW! defo the funkiest funk ive heard.

I remember hearing “Give Up the Funk” often on the radio when I was in high school, and I would sing along with the chorus, but I guess I had the lyrics wrong, as I sang, “we want the bump, give us the bump.” 🤣 Anyway, I didn’t mind listening to this album, although it really isn’t my kind of music. I also thought that some of the songs were just too long, as this is one of my frequent complaints. But overall, this album gets 3 stars from me. I won’t bother listening to it again, but I wouldn’t mind hearing Give up the Funk from time to time.

Liked it a lot but not my kinda music. I wouldn't listen to it on a regular basis or add it onto a playlist but I did enjoy the sound of it.

Enjoyable, like a wedding reception mix. Definitely ahead of its time.

I much prefer Funkadelic. This one's just alright for me.

funky gsi. vibe technisch nice aber keis lied het mi jez wegblose so

Funky fun and a party on record. Would be a great live experience, but as a studio recording it can get a bit repetitive.

Pretty funky!

Fun, 3.5

Good, but gets a little old after a while

I didn't make it last the first song 😅 Maybe I wasn't in the mood for it. The spoken word stuff was cool at first but I got bored of it after a while. I do think it would be more fun live, they would probably just jam forever.

This is the album for you if you gotta have the funk but idk if I personally ever need the funk

seemed funky I guess. I listened to this while doing something else, so in not giving it my full attention, I have no thoughts.

Not my style

Give Up the Funk is an all time classic, but the rest of the album wasn't the MOST engaging for me. I was still boppin' along tho.

This entire album felt like one long intro a song that never actually started. I was on the edge of my seat ready for them to start actually playing but it never really came. I'm impressed with some of the riffs and some of the sounds they were able to achieve, but the actual writing left a lot to be desired.

Nice, groovy. A couple of special songs, but overall, not too impressionable on me.

I like Parliament and Funkadelic a lot, and enjoyed this, but I think on balance I come down a little bit more on the Funkadelic side. This isn't as life-changing as Maggot Brain.

I did not use a private session on Spotify for this one. I have actually seen Parliament in concert, fun! This album is fun and obviously had a huge influence on a lot of artists.

I liked it less than I thought I did

Turns out I don't like this as much as Funkadelic. Still fine, but not hitting me as hard as the other options. Not much to say really, sorry!

Funky go time

Tasty but a little same-y.

Wouldn't listen again, now I understand what the word funky means. That said wasn't bad. No songs saved

I'm back for good now. This album was a good surprise. I have, however, listened to better funk albums before. The intro of "P-Funk" hyped me up. Can't believe I've been reviewing albums for a whole year now. 3 stars for "Mothership Connection".

Fun! Good start. Length is just right. Got repetitive after a while but still a good time. Those trumpet solos 😮‍💨

This album is good, but the Live: P-Funk Earth Tour album that came out of this material is the real must-listen Parliament record. The beat on the studio version gets monotonous, but with an entire 1977 LA Forum stomping along, it reaches the cosmic.

it was ok. the interludes were too cute

This was actually fun(ky). I'm not that much into funk, but you can hear the fun the musicians had recording this album, and it gets you.

Boring, not my music

Surprisingly fun listen

Did I enjoy or this or have I just have a bad run of albums recently? I may never know.

Cool sound.

3.4 2x funky catch up 3/14/25

Funk me

The band has already made each and every funk-pun I could come up with themselves, so I am left with nothing but the funk. 3.5/5

I know I should love this, but I just like it. Sometimes a bit dull.

Funky album, too short. 3/5

saxophone

Good vibes

Auch ganz nett ;)

Once again, a totally unknown band for me. I like the funky sound so I enjoyed the whole album. Nice beat, nice arrangements.

The grand daddy of funk albums. These are not so much songs as they are recorded party’s. They just let go and caught it on vinyl. The influence this band had on others is immense. Fun stuff.

This album was the business when I was in high school, lots of the band kids were all about it and I heard it a lot. Nobody could play like Bootsy. I reckon that's still true today. :)

funktastic

Funk foundation! I love the lackadaisical friends-hanging-pit vibe and the iconic "We Want the Funk" was asked for and delivered. Some of the sounds just sounded like farts, but props to them for experimenting.

Interesting, a future album from the past

tripposo

Way more funk than the Funkadelic album we had before. Interesting how much this influenced future gangsta rap - I recognized a few backing tracks just from that. In the end this album is still a little too jammy for me, but I recognize this is probably peak for the genre.

AKA: The 1990s Death Row Records Sample Library. Almost gets into 4 territory because when the songs land, they really land. But, a lot of it was a little more formless, even if the energy persists.

I like the otherworldly aesthetics and it certainly sounds like it too. Great fat bass tone & soulful vocals. Standout track is: “Handcuffs”

Really amazing

Funktastic

Listening to this and this is pure grooves. The fourth track, "Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication" is the first track where I got hooked. The synthesizer being such a prominent instrument losing it's mind as the bass lays the foundation has now been engrained into my brain chemistry. As I keep listening I keep having the same thought, "Is funk just another iteration of jazz?" Grooves will come in and out, but there will always be a foundation groove to hold onto. As I near the end of this album, I see why it was included in this list. A lot of artists that came after this either interpolated, sampled, or found inspiration from Parliament and Funkadelic. Would I listen to this album again? Probably not, but the roots that this album planted are everywhere.

Ah, the Give Up the Funk is from this album, which is classic banger.

maybe i'm just not as cut out for funk as i thought i was.

I like funk. I like funk like I like jazz. And jazz is a huge spanning genre with a large number of artists. Funk is shorter, not as often used now, but it also had enough players in the game where I thought this was ... well, maybe I should think of reggae. It had a smaller hay-day and some people shined and others were in the crowd. I see this band as in that crowd, just over there, but not quite at the head table. Maybe they are supposed to be? I don't know from history. But as far as funk goes. Yeah, it is OK.

Classic 1975 funk. A little out there, but good for a bop around the kitchen.

It was indeed funkalishous, although lacking in lyrical substance

His name is George! George Clinton! And he's got 38 degrees in fuckin!

They are in fact funky. In case you didn’t hear the puns. It’s fun it sounds like they’re just jamming and having a great time. But after about 15 minutes of that I need a little more structure. Yes I’m white, maybe I’m not at funky as I want to be, but this funk is just a little too unstructured for me to stay engaged with. I like my George Clinton with just a tad less PCP.

I imagine if I liked the genre this would be quite good but just not my thing

Banger!

Stark 3a. Sparar 4 för album som har fler bangers.

I think this album is more technically and musically impressive than I actually enjoy it. While I like the concept of funk, sometimes I think bands can struggle with creating enough variety or dynamics on a whole album to make it not sound essentially the same from beginning to end.

Wild! "Ain't nuthin' but a party y'all! The Mothership Connection gettin' down in 3-D! That's right, Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip And come on up to the Mothership ... " Also, TIL Dre's 'Let Me Ride," was mostly another ripoff. Chalk that up to another another reason to hate the Chronic.

No Funkadelic, but still plenty of funk.

I feel funked up.

I noticed several Dr. Dre and Snoopdog samples in this album. It was a nice funky Sunday morning.

Songs long for my liking, knew one song already fun and funky but not my thing!

Makes me want to put on sunglasses and spaz out on a keyboard in front of those Fifth Element aliens

This was, for the most part, a fun listen and straight funk from start to finish.

the origin of Mothership Reconnection

nice to listen to but not something i’d put on myself 3/5

I prefer this to most any other funk from that era, but it’s not always my cup of tea. I’d certainly put this on at a party, but I likely won’t come back to it.

this album was pretty fun to listen to. I really enjoyed it because i just dig funk in general. this to me is something easy to throw on in the background and just listen to while doing chores, getting ready for sexy time, or walking down the street. a bit repetitive, and the lyrics aren't anything crazy, but i could listen to this groove for hours.

This deserves at least 3 stars. Crazy how much west coast hip hop in the 90’s was influenced by this album. Awesome.

So damn funky that you forget that the lyrics in funk music are almost always repeated. Give Up The Funk is a classic and was fun to jam out to for a minute. A good album but I don’t know if I’d rate it this high at a double album length.

Funk yeah. You better be prepared to listen to the Funk, the the whole Funk, and nothing but the Funk.

Very loose and repetitive (sometimes to a ponderous and/or messy degree). Touchstone for 90s hip hop (musically and lyrically). Highlights: "Mothership Connection (Star Child)" (nice horn riffs), "Handcuffs" (James Brown/Sly & the Family Stone vibes) Notable: "P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)" (Snoop took the radio motif on Doggystyle from this. Dre bookended The Chronic with a takeoff of this.)

This is the one with "Give Up the Funk". If you've heard that song, expect more of that. George Clinton and his merry band of misfits indoctrinate you into their funky world for 38 minutes. You will want to listen to the album twice because it is very fun, but it almost feels short. The instrumentation is lush and there's so much experimentation that it makes me a little giddy. At times, however, the album can feel a little one-note, but it's easy to see how important this particular work is on the genre and would become to hip-hop decades later. I'm not super into funk, so I can't rate it higher, personally, but it absolutely deserves to be on this list.

This is #day140 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... what the funk? It's all about jamming and jiving here. Cosmic, groovy, and jazzy. What else to add? I'm giving this album a 3 out of 5, though, as I'm not sure I'll be coming back to it soon. Looking forward to #day141.

George Clinton's Opus - great bass lines and a clever lyrical theme throughout

Some classic beats here but I didn't thrive with it

Nice and funky, but not particularly substantial. I enjoy the groove, but there's not much beyond that.

A lot of g funk rappers sampled this album and others from parliament funkadelic and associates. It was cool to hear the source and the music is very entertaining and enjoyable. I like funk music so that helps. The strings are very great (sucker for r&b and dance strings). If there’s anything negative it’s that the songs are too long for what they are. Best song: give up the funk

It was ok. Sounded the same throughout the album and some songs were just way too long. Give up the Funk clearly best song and most known.

Very funky. Not really my preferred cup of tea but it was okay. Nice background music. Very weird band and weird sound.
