Reviews (page 5 of 15)
A really good album, I liked 15 Step, Bodysnatchers, Nude and House of Cards.
It's good when a band release a 4* album... it's amazing when a band releases a 5* album... it's radiohead when radiohead release a radiohead album
rugluð bara
best radiohead album fr
Insanely good album with no skips, literally the first album to get me into rock (properly anyways) easily a 10 and Radiohead's best.
It's literally my favourite album ever. Funny that it was the first to come up
Was hating it on the car ride to work. Ended up letting it loop the entire work day. Fire. 5/5
Incredible, possibly their best album
its their best
good
Pretty cool to think that the greatest piece of music ever written didn’t come around until 2007. I'm kidding. But it does seem like most critics and wannabe music snobs routinely place this album in that category. I've read and reviewed so many top 100 lists over the years, and while there are plenty of albums that consistently show up, this record is probably my favorite among them all. It's not my personal favorite album of all time, but it’s definitely my favorite among the critics' picks, which earns it a pretty high spot on my all-time list.
Perfect
Radiohead just being Radiohead
If you didn’t give this 5 stars it’s probably just cause you’re not intelligent enough to understand Radiohead. Radiohead only makes music for smart people, if your not in Mensa dont even think about listening to Radiohead. I bet mozart is happy he was born in the 1800s cause if he was trying to make music while Radiohead was around he probably would’ve quit knowing he could never match the genius that is Radiohead
Easiest 5 I will likely give on this list...an absolute masterpiece.
Lovely album!
This is my favorite album.
different not too creepy
This is the first album recommended by this site to me. May be my most listened to radiohead album. It is great- but was hoping this site would lead me to new music? I mean, I will take a trip down memory lane.
I think this is my favorite Radiohead record. It’s moving, ethereal, melodic, beautifully composed. So many different moods captured throughout so many varied instrumentations. Each song is unique in its own right but makes this record truly whole. Glad I got to revisit this one.
I mean come on.
My cousin turned 16 the year this came out and told me she loved this album.
I was so excited to get this one! This was a big album for my teenage self - I can still remember the morning before the bell rang in high school where my friends and I breathlessly discussed the new Radiohead album that you could pay whatever you wanted for! Not every song is a perfect 5, but the album absolutely is. I was actually really surprised to see so many people complaining that everything sounded the same - Nude and All I Need are superficially similar slow songs, but 15 Step versus Jigsaw Falling Into Place? Totally different! There's a lot of variety here and a lot interesting things apparently happening on a music theory level that flew right over my head, but you don't need to understand time signatures to appreciate how cool some of these songs sound.
thinking back to how i used to be a total hater since radiohead was the hip, esoteric band that all the middle and high school music snobs i didn't like were into... i've since come around but it's still fun to make thom yorke jokes. anyway this album is great. there are some absolute bangers on here, and the other tracks are still cool, moody, evocative, or all of the above. i love that in rainbows was the first really notable example of the pay-what-you-want pricing structure that was unheard of in the music industry at the time and became huge for smaller labels and independent bands in the decade to come. radiohead sure are some top blokes, yeh? favorites: 15 step, weird fishes/arpeggi, all i need, jigsaw falling into place, videotape
Absolutely amazing album. Not a single bad song . Loved Nude, 15 step,Body snatchers,Jigsaw
Yes!
Top tier Radiohead
idk why radiohead likes making weird noises, but i like it
Beautiful, gloomy and lush as fuck. Hits in the feels every time.
I have as much of a sentimental attachment to In Rainbows as I could have for any of Radiohead's albums. I vividly remember when it was surprise released as a pay-what-you-want deal; I was a junior in high school, 16 years old, working at a movie theater, and a couple of slightly older co-workers were mind-blown. I was too, to a degree - I wasn't aware of any other artist having done anything like that before - but since they were huge fans, it impacted them especially hard. I don't think I had heard a full album of theirs yet; although I knew "Fake Plastic Trees", "High and Dry", and "Karma Police" and liked them all, most Radiohead fans I knew were so insufferable that it stopped me from exploring further. But this was such a unique event that it convinced me to "buy" it for free and dive in. I was surprised to find that I liked it pretty much immediately and without reservation! Even still, I only listened a handful of times before it kind of fell to the back of my mind. I revisited it every now and then throughout the years to try and rebel against my Radiohead-averse attitude, was always reminded of its greatness, and promptly put it in my back pocket again. Although I still have somewhat conflicting feelings on the band, I have very much gotten over that initial hesitancy and would say, overall, that I'm a fan, if not to the level that many are. And even though I enjoy all of their albums to varying degrees, In Rainbows is still my favorite. It's the perfect blend of all their rocking and electronic tendencies. Colin Greenwood and Philip Selway are personally the stars of the show for me; every groove, as well as their individual tones/sounds are out of this world. This one may continue to rise in my estimations; going 5 stars for the site. 4.5/5
Part The Strokes, part Nirvana, part Muse all packaged into the usual givings of Radiohead. Definitely an ambitious record where they took a huge gamble. 4.5/5
One of the all time greats, saw it live in Glasgow Green 2008
As a first album recommendation, it's nice. It's the type of music that focuses on instruments, and it hooked me from start to finish. The songs evoke different emotions in me. It's 4 a.m., and I'm inside the train on my way to work. This is the kind of music I would listen to if I want quietness but still like background music, and that's exactly where I am now. I have a lot of thoughts running through my head while listening to the album, but it's 5:43 a.m., and my brain's still foggy. I'll get back to this soon.
Just lovely
very beautiful very powerful
Pfff
This is one of my favorite late summer albums. I have this special category of music that fits perfectly this particular feeling you get during the last days of summer (late August - early September), when it's still sunny and beautiful but you get that its all coming to an end. There's this beautiful sunlight and nostalgic feeling, school/university is just behind the corner and the autumn is already seeping through. In Rainbows, not only among my personal top 3 Radiohead albums (no particular order, OKC and Kid A) is one of the strongest late summer albums. I love it and I can't imagine not listening to it every year.
One of my all time favorite albums. I was a HUGE Radiohead fan in high school. My friend lent me his copy of The Bends my freshman year and the rest was history. I was 16 when this came out, and for my 17th birthday my parents got me tickets to see them in concert on the In Rainbows tour. To this day it is one of the best gifts I have ever received. They didn't know Radiohead's music at all, they just knew that I was obsessed with them and somehow knew they were on tour and got me tickets, I was absolutely stunned. I bought a wall flag/fabric art at this show and it has been prominently displayed in every place I've lived since, so I think of this concert often. One of the most incredible live performances I've ever witnessed, and I feel so fortunate that I had the opportunity to be there.
*Radiohead fanboying intensifies*
It's really quite surprising how despite nearly all of my favorite bands growing up being Radiohead clones, I never really listened to Radiohead until my mid to late 20s
This may be the easiest 5 star I've had so far, as this is probably in my top 3 albums of all time. If that makes me a stereotypical music nerd, so be it.
Ah what a joy. I have gone off Radiohead in the past few years but this album is rock solid and beautiful. Sonic landscapes and actual songs embedded in them - weaving in and out of various emotions while still pumping and rocking throughout.
p915. 2007. 5 stars. Difficult to fault this, great songs, great vocals, great production. Not a weak track on this.
Literally the best ever
beautiful album, this and kid a are tied as my favorite radiohead album. i wish faust arp and videotape werent on the album because, while they arent bad, they arent on the same level as the rest of the songs here. 9/10
Fucking biblical!
I just love Radiohead. This album just strengthens my opinion. It didn't bore me at all. Nearly all of the songs were amazing. I'm probably biased but I don't care. 5 stars for "In Rainbows".
I'd struggled to get into Radiohead before, but this album is just so good that I think I finally understand what all the fuss is about; sensational stuff.
Would give 6 stars if it was an option
This is the other album that competes for my #1 of all time spot. It gets better the more I listen to it.
Remember how groundbreaking this was when released? How seeing Radiohead on this tour is still one of my all time favourite shows. I can’t not 5/5
chill
this is one of the 5 albums i specifically wanted. jigsaw falling into place is one of the best songs i've ever heard, weird fishes / arpeggi too. easiest 5 stars so far
Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien said in 2008, “I never felt we were one of the great bands, up there with The Smiths or R.E.M. In my view, we’ve made three really good records The Bends, OK Computer and Kid A. What we needed was another great record just to seal it.” In Rainbows sealed it. For many, this album would be the bedrock of an argument for 2007 as the greatest year for indie rock. They’d have a strong case there. In his book This Isn’t Happening, Steven Hyden claims In Rainbows is the most beloved album in the Radiohead catalogue, even more than OK Computer and Kid A. That was published in 2020 and it’s become even more true in the ensuing years. In Rainbows didn’t have the kind of monumental career-making impact of OK Computer, or the prophetic, monolithic reputation of the genre-morphing Kid A. But it is arguably the most gorgeous collection of songs Radiohead ever released—each one taps into something deeply human and universal, without ever clearly being about anything specific. Yorke described the lyrics as based on “that anonymous fear thing, sitting in traffic, thinking, ‘I’m sure I’m supposed to be doing something else’…It’s similar to OK Computer in a way. It’s much more terrifying.” I’m not sure the manner in which In Rainbows was released has any influence on how the music is perceived today, but at the time it cast a wide shadow. Radiohead were not the first artist to release their music online as a pay-what-you-want download—Jeff Rosenstock, for one, already had been doing it for a while—but they were the biggest. The degree to which this choice influenced the way we think about and value music today, or whether it played a role in ushering in the streaming era is entirely up for debate. In my opinion, if it wasn’t Radiohead, it would’ve been some other major established musician. What I am sure of is that there is nothing else quite like In Rainbows in the history of rock music, and it will stand the test of time.
if not the best, at least *the* platonic, Radiohead album.
Big Radiohead fan and love this album!
hell yea
It's hard to find fault with this album. The atmosphere is very good, each song really just sucks you in. My only complaint is that his voice sounds a bit weak when he sings high on this album, but besides that I think it's just swell. Although Radiohead is one of the most "Reddit" bands of all time they still have plenty of stuff I enjoy. I listened to "All I Need" a lot this weekend, very nice
I’m officially no longer a Radiohead hater, and it’s all because of this gorgina album full of weird time signatures and dynamics as powerful as hymnals. Thank you all. Your love has broken the curse and freed my soul. I’ll never have to kill again 🌸💖🌼🧚🏻♀️🥰
Brilliant
Haha. Geoff is gonna hate me. I love Radiohead. This is a top five album of theirs. Largely mellow, love the downtempo, electronic, depressing, introspective nature of the album. I remember when it came out you could “pay what you want.” As a twenty-year old [metaphorical] punk, I was elated to get music for free [without stealing it]. The bootlegged downloadable versions were glitchy, out of sequence, too long, named incorrectly… I suspect the lads just said, “Fuck it. They’ll just take it anyway. Let’s let those who have money/a guilty conscience pay what they want for it. Better than nothing.” TIL: Napster’s reign of terror was only June 1999-July 2001, barely two years. I knew this album was after, but I cannot recall which software was popular at the time. Limewire/Soulseek? Dunno. It was crap.
Great atmosphere, beautifully weird, I love it...
I read the lyrics to 15 step while listening for the first time and that is not at all what I thought he was saying
Crazy how many perfect albums Radiohead can create that are all so different. This is the one I listened to the day of came out, so it has a special place in my heart.
One of the best albums of all time ever. Where do you start to describe this? Not sure I can do it justice really. It is beautiful, emotional and intoxicating. Thom Yorkes falsettos are just dreamy throughout with some unbelievable harmonies. The album jumps from full on to subtle. To think they just gave this masterpiece to the world for free and said pay us how much you want only if you want. The biggest ‘fuck you’ to piracy and leaks and commercialism. Can’t pick a favourite track. It’s all 💯
While every Radiohead album is at least good, "In Rainbows" is the last of Radiohead's great albums. It doesn't quite hit the highs of "OK Computer", but nothing the band has released since has equaled or surpassed "In Rainbows". Every song flows very well together ending with the somber, but comforting "Videotape".
Do yourself a favor, and listen to this album in its entirety, with no interruptions. To me, it feels warm, personal and bittersweet, without ever falling into excessive sentimentality. It has quickly become one of my favorite albums
Goated
It’s hard to find any fault with this album. I don’t really connect with Radiohead like I probably should but recognize their musical craftsmanship.
Amazing
5/5 This collection of unique and often weird songs is a masterpiece. Thom's voice still feels so raw, fresh and new, to lead each song, and the minimal yet meaningful and poetic lyrics cut through each instrumental with impact. The production itself is carefully layered and beautiful without feeling overdone and losing the essence of each song. The refusal to stick with a section for too long before changing the mood makes this such an enjoyable experience. In fact the weakest songs 15 Step and Videotape which bookend the album are the most repetitive and least interesting musically. But the strength of the middle section makes this an exceptional recording. 15 Step 4/5 (LEAST FAV) Bodysnatchers 4.5/5 Nude 5/5 Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi 5/5 All I Need 5/5 Faust Arp 5/5 (FAV) Reckoner 5/5 House Of Cards 4.5/5 Jigsaw Falling Into Place 4.5/5 Videotape 4/5
Even better than OK Computer.
Some of the best and most interesting and captivating music ever recorded. I don't listen to it often because I find it requires so much attention. The first track is awesome and unique to radiohead. The closing track video tape is one of my favorites of all time. A remis is used for one of my favorite kendama videos of all time and I find it incredibly emotional and even transcendental. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI9bbb372y8 It's the type of music that radiohead makes and they're the best at making it. This thing is so cohesive and abstract and emotional, and the suprising part is that it is so accessible. I think someone who wants to dig into the music would prefer a different radiohead album but this is the kind of album that sends a generation of alt, indy heads down that pipeline.
This is my favorite of the 3 Radiohead albums we've had so far.
Great album with an great flow
So, like most albums from Radiohead, I think you’ll get the best listening experience by listening to it on headphones or earbuds. In this case, you’ll be able to hear different elements of the track in a more multi-dimensional layered soundscape. I’ll point out the opening track “15 Step.” It begins with some vocals, then you hear some rhythmic guitar work. From there, you get some electronic beats and the track builds. The rhythmic guitar feels like it was unearthed from a dusty vinyl collection, looped and layered to create a rustic, vintage foundation. From there, Radiohead overlays clean, polished production of more modern sounds. This approach really adds a lot of depth and texture that blends nostalgic and modern elements seamlessly. Now, this is just one example, but the album is filled with multiple layers where each layer feels like it was created and produced separately.
Masterpiece
Great diversion from the music I typically listen to. I highly recommend this album.
absolute genius.
One of the best albums ever made!
Wegen Schönheit 5 Punkte.
so good so awesome I just love this Album
one the best albums ever
Absolutely brilliant. If you haven't listened to this band I suggest you do. Slight hints of U2 on some tracks I thought.
This is it, this is what all other Radiohead albums were building towards, almost like a season finale. Obviously we've gotten albums past this one, but this really feels like the culmination of what everything they had done before was forming into. There's more rock heavy tracks blended with more ethereal tracks, all with fantastic percussion that keeps the pace of the album up, even in the more solemn moments. The guitars and other strings are fantastic, Yorke sounds finally content with life, rather than seemingly relatively whiney, and it just feels like such a relaxed, Summer-y album (by Radiohead standards) that can still work on a cold, dark, Winter night. This is amazing, and the fact you could pay whatever you wanted to listen to this back when it released? Insane.
#241. I know most people like Kid A, but I think this is Radiohead's best album. I could listen to this everyday, probably. 5/5: excellent
It’s perfect. It’s my favourite album of all time. I can’t add a thing.
I was feeling depressed today so I was looking forward to this album! It did the trick ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ what a fun time
It's a Radiohead album for sure
loved it
Six stars
i mean it really is stunning, and just so beautiful. at the start its like this sprawling chaos of beauty that can be kinda hard to take in in a weird way, but by the time it ends it fits perfectly. it really does fall into place. and the ending is honestly breathtaking, having such a quiet but powerful song to close an album so spacious is perfect, it ties the explosiveness of the emotion with the intimacy. and by god this album is intimate. i crawl into it like a bed and lay under the covers warm. i love it. i really do.
One of the best albums of the 2000's
Beautiful album 🤲🏾
Well, I finally got my favourite album of all time by my favourite band of all time. I've listened to this album countless times and none of the tracks ever get old for me. I think there's been a point where each of the ten songs has been my favourite. I have literally no negative criticism towards this, it's just the best. Fav songs: All of them
Classic
Incredible
Probably my favourite Radiohead album. Had a good knowledge of the majority of songs before but great to listen to it all the way through. Thom Yorke just always hitting the spot with that voice !!!!
i've listened to this album COUNTLESS times i love radiohead so much they're one of my favourite bands ever. 15 step is playing as i write this and i am dancing in bio while tryna work on my project worth 10% of my grade :D anyways my favourite tracks are probably 15 step, faust arp, and jigsaw falling into place. i don't even need to listen to this album again to rate it but i will just for funs. 5 stars this is one of my fav albums.
Amazing album... one of the best. Easily a 4.5
This is my fave Radiohead album, but there are others that will get this same rating for sure. This album vibes throughout and there isn’t anything on this album that shouldn’t be.
I ended up favoriting 8 of the 10 songs on this record and prob could have favorited the others. Super solid top to bottom. Easy 5*. 4.5/5
Couldn’t hit 5 fast enough. One of my favorite albums.
Yeaa, this album was awesome. I liked it significantly more than Kid A. A number of indie classics here that I hear fairly often, as well as some that were new to me. My favorites are 15 Step, Bodysnatchers, Faust Arp, and Jigsaw Falling into Place.
WOOOOOOOO!!!!! Every note of this record is stitched into my soul. This is the best live band in the world. They dominated modern music for a solid 20 years. This album is a feast. Perfect. Beautiful. Heartbreaking. Stunning. Innovative. Still! This was released 17 years ago and still feels new.
Really love the fact that this album is accessible and experimental all at the same time. Incredible album by an extremely creative band
Recently fallen in love with this albums. Just as beautiful as Kid, Amnesiac, OK Computer, and the Bends. 15 Steps, Bodysnatchers, Videotape, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi are all great tracks. 5/5!
Really impressive
I'm not a big Radiohead fan, but I remember the debut of this album & all the buzz surrounding it. It's really damned good, beautifully crafted, and timeless.
Simplemente arte; One of the greatest albums of all time. 10/10.
10/10 mejor que el sexo
01) 15 Step - 9,0 02) Bodysnatchers - 9,5 03) Nude - 10,0 04) Weird Fishes/Arpeggi - 9,0 05) All I Need - 9,5 06) Faust Arp - 8,0 07) Reckoner - 10,0 08) House of Cards - 9,5 09) Jigsaw Falling into Place - 10,0 10) Videotape - 9,0 TOTAL: 9,35 (94/100) This is my third Radiohead album and while "OK Computer" was sure shot five-star material, I was surprised by "Amnesiac" and its five stars. So, I was asking myself how many listens would take for "In Rainbows", because the album didn't click with me back in 2007., just like "Amnesiac" didn't a few years earlier. Jigsaw fell into place after the second listening, and after listening to "Nude" for the second time, (going from 8,0 to 10,0!) I knew this would deserve top marks from me. "Reckoner", "Nude", "Jigsaw..." and "All I Need" are my favorites.
Great start to this list. I have listened to this album many times and I’m about to add another listen.
I was already a fan of this band by the time this album came out, and I remember it striking me as somewhat of a departure from the electronic-oriented Amnesiac/Hail to the Thief releases. More like a return to stuff like The Bends but with enough influence from their recent history to sound unique. Honestly this album for me is the most re-listenable one in their catalog and I was delighted to listen again for this app. I had forgotten the marketing around this album and it's "pay what you like" model. They never did that again, and in the end music seems commoditized to death by Apple, Spotify, etc, so maybe it unfortunately played into their hands.
RAHHHH RADIOHEAD 5/5
EXCELLENT, a masterpiece, love it love it love it love it
YEP, I'M BASIC. I LOVE RADIOHEAD. SO WHAT?
Cool nerds make music Pretty, artsy, yet badass Dance, chill, it all works
My favorite Radiohead album. The most diverse yet catchy and also soul-crushing work they ever had. Oh, and also it melds into OK Computer perfectly if you order each song from each album one-for-one? Yeah, nuts. These guys are geniuses.
I have heard this album before, but listening to it again all the way through offered a new perspective. There is a reason In Rainbows is so revered; seriously a significant landmark in the discography, blending drum machines and such analog guitar. Bass is ever present, and falling all over the place. Feels like a bunch of cinderblocks wrapped in a fuzzy blanket.
Fantastic album. It starts off great but to me, really jumps to another level in the second half with some absolutely beautiful music. Reckoner is the standout track. It's one of the best not just in Radiohead's catalog but amongst the best things I've heard so far in this journey through 1001 albums.
I really do love some songs on this album: weird fishes, jigsaw falling into place, reckoner, house of cards, all I need. 4.5/5
Haunting. Beautiful. Bold. Soft. It's so hard to describe the range of this album. By far my favorite Radiohead album if not one of my favorites of all time.
It's rare to say this, but what an incredibly beautiful album. One of my favourites despite rinsing it dry after spending £1 as a poor student on it when they released it initially as pay-what-you-want on the internet (remember those times?). Every song hits you in different ways at different times. Videotape might be one of the most chilling album endings ever. A very very welcome response to Hail to the Thief, which was imo their poorest since Pablo Honey and signs they were falling away a bit. It's a shame they've never hit the lofty heights of In Rainbows since then, but if this is indeed their last 5* album of their career then what a bloody great run they had.
I know this one well enough that I don’t need to listen today, but I still will. You may recall this was the famous “pay what you want” album. I think I paid $10 when it came out, when I was a broke law student. Highlights: everything except Faust Arp, which isn’t even bad, it just doesn’t meet the standard set by everything else here, IMO. Please play Videotape at my funeral. Thanks, bye.
Incredible album. Crazy they were that deep into their careers and could make something that can rival their bests in Ok Computer and Kid A.
I downloaded this when it was offered free to the public. My 2nd favorite Radiohead album. A classic in my books.
Just a perfect latin jazz album. It's fun, upbeat, the solos are great and has some great vocals (whoever does the female vocals on "Veinte Anos" does a great job). I can't find anything really wrong with it and reading through my 5 stars I think this just squeezes into the lower end of the scale. Maybe it is that the genre is quite different from what I normally listen to but all the songs are good and I've listened to it all weekend.
Top 10 albums of all time
Amazing work, very catchy beats and yet very technically arranged (weird time signatures etc) aongs
Great album, always a good listen.
just a freaking 10/10 album. One of my all-timers and puts Radiohead into the god level.
Babys got the bends oh no I loved it. Best song is bodysnathers 15 step has goofy sound effects though
Radiohead is one of my all time favorite bands. They love pushing the envelope and don’t mind reinventing themselves as they so feel. This album is one of my favorites because it’s a return to guitar driven music with the infusion of riffs and jazz influences.
I have listened to this once before but very passively. Exciting! This simply reminded me why I LOVE Radiohead. Another fantastically written, performed and produced album.
One of the GOATs. Absolute artistic masterpiece on a level with few others. The emotion, the technicality and timing, the pure brilliance from front to back. Also, Reckoner. Nuff said.
This is officially their best
I was on the fence about this one, if I could give 4.5 I would. It isn’t my favourite Radiohead album and it’s not where I’d start if I wanted to get into them as the earlier stuff is a bit more accessible. However, after listening to it twice yesterday, it’s bloody good stuff. Merges the more conventional elements of the early stuff with the more abstract experimental albums they’ve done post-90s. So I think even as a very basic-bitch fan that prefers the early stuff, I’ve got to give a 5. Simpsons: Looks like Creep was played in a episode.
This is really beautiful music. I've gotten a lot of appreciation for this band through the 1001. I had never really listened to Radiohead before. I did get to listen to this album at a Dead & Co show in Boulder summer 2023 and really enjoyed it, they played it during a lengthy break, and made a mental note that I had to check it out, but hadn't done so until today.
My favorite album from probably my favorite band - incredible songs and a overall sound. Reckoner is one of my favorite songs ever
It’s unbelievable. Rare album that sounds like absolutely nothing else of the era. Like no one even bothered trying to copy it. And I very much remember the attention around the release. Groundbreaking for that release alone. Perfect front-to-back music is a bonus. The percussion and drumming is filthy. I always had this perception of In Rainbows as a softer affair, but Radiohead rocks as hard as ever on a few of these.
Got spoiled by this album, really early. I was the sophomore kid in 2007 who Googled "what are the best bands?" and found a forum of very annoying people arguing whether it's The Beatles or Radiohead. Which of the two? There were no other options discussed! Obviously. How can a group of people be so wrong and... weirdly kind of right... at the same time?? That forum has set me up for decades of disappointment, as I realize that yes, Kid A is a real diamond in the rough, even if it was the second album I listened through in full. What a weird entry point to music. Now, at 32, I am many years into atoning for my early mis-steps, and this list is part of that. But... In Rainbows is genuinely, genuinely still stunning. They manage to get so much right, even as it's a fairly radical departure for the band that waited 15 years to make an album like this. It's much better that they waited. So much songwriting, production maturity in every decision they make. A familiar Radiohead and yet still so, so very strange. This really feels like the best thing that Radiohead could have put out in 2007. You know the old saying, that the great artists always seem to try to re-create some of their earliest, great works over and over. They continue to come back to the place where things started, and try to approach it again. That's what this album feels like. It's a homecoming for Radiohead, after a loooooong journey abroad. Nothing more to say! I LOVE this album. 5/5
Another great Radiohead album. I wasn't as familiar with this one as earlier works, but I quickly liked 6 of the tracks, and would probably like more with additional listens.
I'm not thrilled to have the same taste as the lady who wrote Twilight, but what are you gonna do?
No brainer. I feeling of joy comes over me when listening to this. Sublime
Loved it. My first experience with Radiohead, I know "ok computer" is the most acclaimed but I guess I'll just wait for it to appear here. Amazing!
Interesting and musical
94/100
Love this album!
All time classic. Probably the Radiohead that I’ve listened to the most. It is fun to make fun of thom’s voice in Reconer because he sounds like the old man character in family guy “do ya like popcicles?”. Love all of these tracks. I think jigsaw and weird fishes are my fav tracks. Timeless
Perfection
Nude, weird fishes, reckoner, and jigsaw are songs where Radiohead is at their absolute peak. This might be the groups best album but, people can be reluctant to compare it to ok computer - another monolith of an album. What I love most about this album is their softer touch on most of the songs which keep me submerged in a dream like atmosphere.
It’s taken 30 years but Radiohead have finally got me. This is textured, creative music that structurally builds, layers and crescendos. Sublime post rock that is well worth another listen, possible several.
Radiohead may be the most influential band in the world. They started as an alt rock/pop band, but they have moved far beyond that. They make music that is outside of any genre but their own. In Rainbows may be the band at the height of their power. These songs have a simple sound, that is build of complex, beautiful arrangements. They creates tapestries of guitar rock, with synthesizers rich rhythms. A rare band that is far, far bigger than the sum of their very talented parts...
15 step, Nude, All I need are the soundtrack of my 17. I didn’t know yet how lucky I was. This music saved me)
Difficult to describe how importantly interesting this album was when it came out. Radiohead just released it. Pay as much as you want. Download a high quality copy from their site. It was nuts. I love this album on top of that. It was super well put together and holds up 17 years later.
joya
Really like this album
Might be my favourite Radiohead album. Love the 'from the basement' session they did on it
Fancy free music
(re)watched from the basement live version, plus 3x listen during morning. not my favorite Radiohead but it's up there. 4.8/5
No comment
excellent album, does Radiohead have a bad album? this one in particular is reminiscent of high school. That classic downtempo psych rock sound Radiohead has been come to be known for. Always worth a listen
This went from "a Radiohead album I kind of like" to "one of their three best" over the past several years, for me at least. Its really good, and I still remember the entire "pay what you want" process when it came out. They really never miss.
Probably my favorite Radiohead album. I remember when this came out and it felt like such a fresh sound.
So good!
Every Radiohead album since OK Computer has been absolutely amazing. This isn't my favorite, but it's still in a class of its own. I think every single Radiohead album except Pablo Honey is a 10/10. I love Pablo Honey, but it's not in the same league as everything after it. In Rainbows has some of the cleanest, most satisfying production I've ever heard. The "In the Basement" live version of this album is so, so much better than the studio version.
This is a masterpiece simply „all i Need” one of my favorite tracks
Love this. Moody and melodic. Its not my favorite Radiohead album but I put it on regularly as mood music to work to.
Five
Top tier album Bodysnatchers guitar makes me happy :)
5 every day and twice on Sundays. One of their best 3 albums all of which are unquestionable 5 stars.
Loved it, such a classic
Just beautiful sounds, dancing in my head. Spectrums of sound are conveyed in harmony through each and every track. One of my all times
God I love this album. Gets better with every listen. Nude is up there with the best songs ever. Thom’s voice makes me wanna cry. Jigsaw and weird fishes have amazing instrumental builds that are classic Radiohead.
Perfect album!
It’s about time I got to this album. One of my favorite Radiohead albums and one of the best albums ever. I’ve listened to this album dozens of times and it will always be great. Definitely biased on this one but there’s so much that this album does well. Both discs are solid and I’ll continue to listen to this for years. 9.8/10
perfecto.
One of their best. A true 5 star album.
Amazing band. Amazing album
This is one of my all time favourite albums, by one of my all time favourite bands. Love it every time I listen to it. Which is fairly often to begin with.
A long time favorite. Did the concert.
One of my favorite Radiohead albums.
one of the greatest albums of all time
Simply beautiful, especially Videotape. I do like OK Computer more, but this is certainly a close second.
That’s an instant 5. I have said before that the most important thing an album can do is to make you feel something, and… this album made me feel a lot of things. To some ears, I can understand it; occasionally, there is an incredible repetition in the soundscape that lingers on for a bit too long, and for those ears, that’s the sort of thing that takes them out of being engaged. For my money, though, there was not a dull moment in this album – I think almost every track here pulled me into its mood and its lyrics, and that is a testament to the amount of detail and effort poured into this entire album, whether it’s from Thom Yorke’s vocals, the incredible guitar & drums, or just the mixing that made everything stand out that much more. Just a fabulous, fabulous record.
They released this album with a "pay what you want" model when piracy was hitting it's golden days. Kind of cool. This album took me years to get but I think it's incredible
Radiohead - In Rainbows This is my favorite Radiohead album. It's the album that pulled me into the Radiohead galaxy. From the opening notes on 15 Step to end it's got a heavier sound. My favorite taco on here is Jigsaw Falling into Place. Ok Computer might be their more famous album, but In Rainbows will always hold a special place in heart. 5/5
I didn't love this as much as other Radiohead albums on release, but it's grown on me over the years. I think the less focus on guitars put me off at first, but the songs themselves are just great.
Love this album. One of Radiohead's best.
Very nice I like Tom bjork
One of the best of their best. Perhaps it's an answer to the question of what's The One Radiohead album to listen to, if you could only pick one to explain this band.
Impressionante, 10/10.
Outstanding.
Perfection, and a new way of connecting with fans (when it was first released, anyway) means it could never be less than 5 - even if they weren't one of my all-time favourite artists. Some of their best songs on this record, but which have not had quite the same exposure as the bigger hits. "Nude" is a particular highlight
One of the best albums of all time
I just listened to this album a couple times prior to it showing up on my list. One of my favorite albums of all times. 5/5
One of my favorite albums of all time. In Rainbows is often times my favorite Radiohead album, which is also sometimes OK Computer, sometimes Kid A, sometimes The Bends. This was the first new Radiohead album for me after I had become a fan of the band, and it’s easily one of my few favorite albums from this century. Every track is outstanding in its own way, but my favorites are Bodysnatchers, Nude (what a vocal performance), Reckoner, Weird Fishes, House of Cards, and Jigsaw Falling Into Place. Also All I need. 15 Steps is a brilliant opener. Ahhh! On this listen I learned that Weird Fishes is not called Weird Flashes which I thought is what he said the first 1000 times I listened to this record.
Great album
Hell yeah
Greatest album of all time
radiohead’s most beautiful record ! lovely arrangements by jonny on reckoner
Gna be listening to this one againx2 for a while after.
Yeah. This is a total masterpiece. Really incredible, as close to a perfect album you can get.
I guess I’m turning into a Radiohead freak. I can’t say there’s a bad song on this. Such a great album to just vibe to. 5/5
Finally
It's the best arrangements, the most beautiful guitars, the most beautiful drums, the highest quality mixing and the most awesome mastering. I can't classify myself as a Radiohead fan. I don't really like Thom Yorke's timbre and manner, but the music they make in its totality is beautiful, original and very interesting. Special mention must be made of the air and quality with which one hears every nuance and every instrument on the recording. My hat's off to them.
Radiohead goes harder than I thought/remember them going. I really love the the electronics and post production instruments are used to enhance what was already there, rather than be the focal point of the music. Definitely some certified bangers on the album. No real low moments at all during the album, but it's lacking a wow factor for me.
GOAT BEST ALBUM EVER JIGSAWWWW FALLING INTO PLACEE
I love this album. It was changing the game from the day it came out when you could oh whatever you wanted for it. I have loved it ever since.
Superb.
So I've been a big Radiohead fan for about 2 years now, and I swear this album gets just a little bit better every single time I listen to it. This alvum perfectly represents what a typical Radiohead album sounds like, and I love everything about that. The 2 opening tracks "15 Step" and "Bodysnatchers" have such a sense of urgency, before "Nude" comes on and changes the pace completely. I love the way they seemlessly blend pianos woth guitars, making for that signature Radiohead sound. I get that some people might find Thom's voice a bit whiny, but for some reason I love it. He has such a versatile voice that can sound annoying when he wants it to, but can also be used to deliver such emotive performances.
I can't believe I've never gone to listen to radiohead's music even though I know its exactly the kind of music I love.
Meh
All Time Classic 👌🏻
Very good and took me through every emotion. I liked especially that one song would be banging on the drums and the next would be a slower down melody.
No words needed!
How dare they invent bandcamp
In Rainbows by Radiohead is a captivating album that showcases the band's musical prowess and innovation. The seamless fusion of electronic and rock elements, coupled with Thom Yorke's distinctive vocals, creates a dynamic and engaging listening experience. The tracklist, ranging from the haunting Nude to the experimental 15 Step, demonstrates Radiohead's versatility. Beyond the music, the album's unique pay-what-you-want release strategy challenged industry norms. In Rainbows remains a significant and influential work, standing as a testament to Radiohead's creative brilliance and enduring impact. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 6 STAND OUT TARCK - Jigsaw Falling Into Place
First Radiohead album I loved and listened all the way through. Should have released this one first
Best
This album is always a Jigsaw Falling Into Place for me. It’s All I Need.
No skips. On heavy rotation this weekend. I can see why this is considered one of their best albums. Very great album
10/10
what more can be said about this one. It does the most while sounding like the least, it's filled with beauty but also determination. So calculated yet so free
This was the beautiful dreamy downbeat psychedelic vibe I was exactly looking for this morning. So much love for Radiohead. 5* absolutely, will be buying the vinyl and returning frequently, faves (for now, after just the first pass) include 15 Step, Nude, Weird fishes, and Videotape. Phenomenal.
Classic!!! 5 for sure.
Amazing. One of the best albums ever (had listened to it prior to this but still). Radiohead are geniuses.
Easy to understand why this record was lauded as one of the best in the 21st century and won many awards. There is a warmth to songs that don't necessarily reflect the lyrics.
This album while not as varied as previous ones is extremely beautiful and emotionally rich. Only dips on the last song but everything before it is worth listening.
4.6 - Radiohead’s last great album, I wouldn’t rank this as high as OK Computer or Kid A, but great. Favorite tracks: Reckoner, Jigsaw, Weird Fishes, Bodysnatchers, Videotape.
Fantastic album - I forgot how much I love Radiohead. Bodysnatchers really brings it
In rainbows is fantastic
So good
15 step - Great introduction, starting with a simple drum pattern and slowly turning the energy of the song up. The end of the song leaves you with just the right energy for the following - Body Snatchers - Struck me as a song that could be about body dysmorphia, with lines such as "They got a skin and they put me in, oh the lines wrapped 'round my face, Are for anyone else to see, I'm a lie" and "I'm trapped in this body and can't get out". The relatively high energy lends itself to an almost frantic trapped feeling. Nude - A short, much needed calm after the frenzy of Body Snatchers, Nude struck me as a song about just not getting it despite trying so hard, maybe too hard. The lyrics are short and bitter, backed by an orchestral ending that lulls you into a calm. Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi - Turning up the energy a little bit, the weirdest fish based love song I have ever heard backed with the most amazing music that perfectly accompanies the vocals and lyrics. All I need - "I'm an animal trapped in your hot car" was the line that really caught me. The melancholy tone of the music tells just as much of a story as the lyrics, and together paint a picture of either a stalker or a lopsided, unrequited love. The second half of the song picks up dramatically, rising to a crescendo of melodies all screaming loneliness and ending abruptly. Faust Arp - A simple "one two three four" count off starts the song led mainly by guitar melody, followed by a barrage of lyrics that are sung masterfully, but the meaning of which still escapes me. Despite that the song demanded multiple listens. Reckoner - Following the theme of the music throughout the album, Reckoner pairs another beautiful melody and beat with amazing vocals. An almost celebration of death or endings, Reckoner gave me images of death with it's scythe being sung to by an unafraid victim. House of Cards - A song about wanting what can't be had - "I don't wanna be your friend, I just wanna be your lover" "Throw your keys in the bowl, Kiss your husband goodnight" "Forget about your house of cards, and I'll do mine" Once again the percussion takes the lead and the melodies take a back seat, punctuating important pieces of the lyrics and filling one with a sense of longing for impossible things thoroughly. Jigsaw Falling Into Place - After the rather calm pace of House of Cards, Jigsaw jumps up and goes back to a faster pace, driven by a solid beat. Packed from beginning to end with lyrics that are masterfully written, I get a sense of a story about a one night stand at a bar and maybe regret after of a missed connection. Another abrupt stop on the song leads you to the calm final track of the album. Videotape - The piano sends a sense of beautiful dread, foreboding a calamitous end. "This is my way of saying goodbye, 'cause I can't do it face to face, I'm talking to you before, no matter what happens now, you shouldn't be afraid, because I know today has been, the most perfect day I've ever seen." A fitting ending note for the album. All together the album is a 5/5 - Would highly recommend. Favorite songs - Body Snatchers, Weird Fishes/ Apreggi, Videotape
Radiohead is a fantastic band and this album is fantastic!
Very nostalgic I remember this coming out and loving it. First Pay what you want record. Beautiful album altogether.
Be ready to catch these hands if you rate this album anything lower than a 5. I already listen to this album in full every other day. Can't really seem to go wrong with Radiohead, but this record is one of my all time favourites and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did
Yeee that's what I'm talking about. This is the good stuff. Great tracks, put together brilliantly. I'd give it a 9.5 overall but seeing as I can't do that I'll have to round it up. F. Song = Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Love Radiohead. This album is so chill and perfect. Great for road trips or lounging around the house. Great ambiance. 8/10
Top 5 album of all time for me
8.9/10
Given Radiohead’s illustrious career, this is maybe their 4th or 5th best album, which says more about the quality of their output than any real shortcomings of this album. It feels like a natural successor to Hail to the Thief, building on that album’s sound without taking too many left turns. It starts out very heavy with 15 Step and Bodysnatchers, but then finds some beautifully uncomfortable quiet places punctuated by a subtle blend of acoustic and electronic elements. As with most Radiohead records, there is not a single bad or even mediocre song here. Even at 4th or 5th best in their catalog, still a 5 overall.
It's one of my favorite records.
Great head music for the morning wake and bake
Only day two and onto the CLASSICS. Needed this today.
Need to give it a more full listen but I’ve loved everything I’ve heard so far
IN RAINBOWS IN RAINBOWS IN RAINBOWS IN RAINBOWS AHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHASHhgSJDgaukfoawhe;ghew;hwaeuwae;hfwae safhkjashdfjawg,df (cums pants and fucking dies) 10/10
I listened to this album so much trying to understand it completely, I even did the crossfade transition with ok computer, but I don't think I fully got it, I liked the songs Nude, Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi, All I need, and maybe House of Cards. I'm giving it a 5/5 cause I think my friend would hate me if I gave it any less, doing this makes me regret giving "Architecture and Mortality" a 4/5 cause that one I really enjoyed not unlike my other 5/5 but I listen to it casually and I really really enjoyed it.
WHAT A VIBE Came into this album having a preconceived notion of what Radiohead sounded like and it wasn’t necessarily completely off, but this was way better than what I anticipated. Some of the songs I could appreciate but acknowledge I wouldn’t want to hear on a daily or even annual basis - they were good just not for me. A few of the songs made me instantly think that a new playlist should be started and that it fits winter so well. The lyrics probably need another listen for a proper dissection but for me what really stuck out was the entire vibe. The guitar tones were realllyyyy nice too. 8/10
- MOODY AS FUCK!!!
A life changing album for me. I listened for the first time on my Toshiba Gigabeat while walking to school in the rain. I thought nude was the best, it was on that skins advert after all, but recliner stopped me in my tracks and I sat in the rain to listen to it around 7 times before I continued my journey, late for form and soggy. It's followed me about since, love it - just extremely wonderful.
Overall great album, lots of interesting melody lines to give kind of a out-of-body vibe, some of the tracks are abit too down/gloomy for me and I didn't like the transition between house of cards - jigsaw falling into place. 3.5
I Radiohead iniziarono a lavorare su In Rainbows all'inizio del 2005.
Genius
Tweaked out future soul.
Radiohead at their best. Still experimental, but warm like a trusted blankie.
I actually think it might be the best Radiohead album. OK Computer will always have the special place in my heart, but In Rainbows probably beats it really. It's so welcoming, in stark contrast to quite a lot of Radiohead, and I think is definitely Thom's greatest vocal performance. He really shines on the slower songs like Nude and All I Need, while the power of the band (particularly Phil) are more evident in 15 Step, Weird Fishes or the Reckoner. Add into this astonishing piece of music the anti-industry method of release, and you have something really special. It's incredible that anyone could listen to this and still hold any of the clichéd RH views. The only bit I didn't enjoy was picking a favourite. I knew it would be Jigsaw, but then the final gut punch of Videotape comes along and blows you away so totally. Those lyrics! Best record of the Project so far.
fantastic magic impressive amazing super mega harosh
I once imagined a sci-fi saga about telepaths, it took place in the future, in the 24th century. I even wrote a novel telling the first events of the sweeping story I had in mind. And as I did so, I took notes to envision what the perfect soundtrack for that long yarn would sound like... I will probably never write the rest of my story, sadly. But if I had done so, "All I Need" would be the very last song heard in the saga. A perfect capper for a tale filled with troubled characters caught in the stir of history, longing for each other, and yet--in spite of their psychic powers--unable to communicate their true feelings to one another. At the very end, there's only the promise of an afterlife to give those characters some frail hope that they could start it all over again--and thus, finally merge their souls with the ones they truly loved during their short lives. I don't remember wanting to use another song from *In Rainbows" to illustrate my story. But in a way, each and every track of this perfect LP could match with my melancholic musings about alienation and unrequited love--whether expressed through my story idea or elsewhere, in other sorts of tales. *Videotape*, for instance, could provide precious inspiration for a scene about grief and nostalgia. When I saw Radiohead live, Thom Yorke gave a memorable performance from start to finish, but it's the memory of that particular song that stuck with me. A few words about how the song works might be useful to describe that fond memory. On the surface, *Videotape*'s rhythm pattern sounds simple, but it's actually incredibly complex (check out the You Tube videos about it). So I remember Thom sitting in front of his upright piano, starting the very first chords of the song, and then slamming the keys, mad with with sudden anger and frustration. The band stopped playing at once. Thom didn't have the right tempo in mind. Then, he collected his thoughts, started afresh, and finally gave a perfect rendition of the composition. I was in tears. I was not only in tears because this piece of music was great and it was the first time I had ever listened to it. It was during a tour that took place *before* *In Rainbow*'s release, you see, hence why I didn't know the song yet. I was also in tears because of the small fuck-up that started it. To me, it's the sort of event that perfectly encapsulates who Radiohead are. They're *not only* about ambition and grand epic gestures. They can also focus on human frailty, absurd little moments, all sorts of routine moments as experienced by us all in our modern lives. Radiohead's music, as groundbreaking or sweeping as it can be, is still in touch with our human condition--and all the conflicting emotions that go with it. Maybe I will write my story after all... Now I know that a scene about a piano player will be in it. He will make blunders as he plays the first chords of the song, and then start again, and then make everyone cry in the room. Thanks a bunch, Thom. Number of albums left to review: 355 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 292 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 154 Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 206
Best album of all time (it's literally the same age as me and we were born on the exact same date). Also gay. Also fuck you Thom I want my happiness back
15 step: Great bass, 5/4, children Body snatchers: amazing bridge amazing guitar amazing song Nude: less interesting but still great Weird fishes: completely surreal I love it All I need: the buildup Faust arp: one of the best Reckoner: transcendent House of cards: reckoner part 2 Jigsaw: Holyshit Videotape: good as a closer mid overall
Easily one of the greatest albums of all time.
I heard about this album when it came out but I was too cool for "current music" at the time. But it's honestly just prog mixed with James Blake and that's pretty darn great! Very pleased with it and worth a few more listens.
Favs: All I need, reckoner
Great sound and continuity. Very holistic sound to the whole album, but still songs differ and feel unique. Some banger guitar in most songs. Highlights are weird fishes, Reckoner and jigsaw falling into place, but the other song are also amazing
Still remember when that one came out, it caused a bit of a stir. Love ti as most of Radiohead albums
best radiohead album weird fishes/arpeggi 10/10
Brilliant. Really needs good speakers or headphones to immerse yourself in.
One of my favorite albums by radiohead
Excellent album. Could listen to this forever.
One of my favorite records of the past 20 years. Every track hits.
There’s a warmth here that was missing from some of the other albums.
Every track is beautiful. A masterpiece
I love this so much. I have nothing clever to say.
Super chill vibes.
Excellent album. Radiohead has a way of evolving on each album. Favorite tracks are Bodysnatchers, Nude, Weird Fishes, and Jigsaw Fallin into Place. Some of their best work.
Get ekki bent á veikan hlekk. Þvílíkur perfectionismi hjá bandinu. Allt útpælt. Soundið frábært og ekki skemmir framtíðarsýnin, fokk jú á plötusölu, gefum plötuna á netinu. Reckoner, House of cards og Jigsaw mögulega besta lagaþrenna á plötu allra tíma. Besta plata Radiohead. Melody is dead, rythm is king.
perfect vibe for the day - it delivered for me
Dun dun dun, oh oh oh.
I've made a number of attempts to get into Radiohead over the years and I've never been able to. I remember this coming out, and running it was a cool idea but I don't think I picked it up. I'm not sure why, the match on paper never translated. First few songs on this I found really enjoyable but it did fall off for me after and picked up again, relatively speaking. Four stars.
Radiohead make great music and In Rainbows could possibly be one of their best, but it's not my favourite (that goes to The Bends). Relistening this album for the first time in a long time, this was such a great experience. I probably should have listened to their albums in order to enjoy their musical transformation. I think this album hits that perfect combination of the old Indie/Art rock Radiohead and the more experimental rock styles they started doing beginning with OK Computer. Standouts: Nude, Weird Fishes / Arpeggi, All I Need, Reckoner, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, Videotape
You know, I thought I knew this album, but in retrospect, I haven't really listened to it all the way through since it first came out, aside from my brief interest in the then-ubiquitous "0110" playlists that attempted to weave OK Computer and In Rainbows into some 10-year mega-project. All in all, it's a quieter, more focused experience than I had built up in my head. It's also so much more compelling than I remembered (or expected, after I realized I didn't recognize it as much as I thought), and I suspect it has a lot to do with my last 16 years of growth as a musician and producer. The engineering and production of this album is insane. It's unbelievably precise while demonstrating mastery of a wide range of production/performance techniques. I want to call the album cozy, but it's not comfortable - it's eerie and beautiful. It's intimate, but only in the same sense that a fireside conversation with the last, dying scion of a noble bloodline in their otherwise cold, dark castle is intimate. This is vampire music. The drums are so clear and punchy, despite sounding tiny - a lot of the individual instruments sound tiny to me as if they're all miniature musicians in a cupboard somewhere, but that doesn't detract from the overall impact of the music. If anything, the perceived smallness draws me in further, only to be submerged by the wash of experience that each song inevitably crashes over my head. It's hard to explain why, but I feel like this album works especially well because it isn't one super hit after another - there are some obvious "singles" in the mix (Bodysnatchers, Weird Fishes / Arpeggi, Reckoner, maybe Jigsaw Falling Into Place), but the beauty is in the sum of the whole, and the whole album delights, distresses, destroys me. Hugely inspirational and aspirational. A surprising 5/5 for me.
Gotta love it.
Man, Radiohead isnt even one of my personal favorite bands, but I cant deny how consistently great they are. They got at least 3 or 4 almost perfect albums, and this is one of them.
Brilliant record! I think this was the first one I ever listened by Radiohead. While mostly put a little behind Kid A and Ok Computer, I put it above Kid A. What is left to be said about this band, they write some of the best songs in the rock/alt/prog genre and they deliver always. 9 out of 10
This album is just beautiful from start to finish. I still probably prefer OK Computer, but In Rainbows is a close second, and All I Need is my favourite of their songs.
You used to be alright, what happened? Your mouth moves only when someone's hand's up your ass. You paint yourself white and fill up with noise but there'll be something missing. Everybody leaves when they get the chance and it's my chance. I'm just an insect trying to get out of the night. I love you but enough is enough, enough of that stuff. Reckoner, you can't take it with you. Throw your keys in the bowl, kiss your husband goodnight. Come on and let it out, before you run away from me. You are my center when I spin away, out of control on videotape.
Good
"In Rainbows" is Kid Amnesiac Part 3 to me, which is to say that I love it, as much as I love "Kid A" and "Amnesiac." There are 4 Radiohead albums I don't like (only 1 less than the number I do like), including the one between "Amnesiac" and "In Rainbows" (called "Hail to the Thief"). So, I'm definitely not a Radiohead fan that just likes their entire output. However, like many Radiohead fans felt, at least at the time, "In Rainbows" was a return, and their whole stunt of putting it out for free (or whatever donation people wanted to give) made it a big deal. I also have a personal nostalgia, in a way, because my Dad knew I liked Radiohead and really tried to use it as a point of "bonding" to bring it up, talk about it, and ask me about it.
