Favorite Track: Stairway To The Stars
Run of the mill
Ultimo tema complicado, lo demas esta bueno
This is the perfect music for a jam session—soothing and calming. It’s not exactly my usual style, but I could listen to it endlessly in the face of an impending apocalypse. And only then.
It's lovely, but nothing special and nothing that hasn't been done better by countless others.
What a voice. First time hearing a live album of hers and it was pretty good. Liked the candid banter and improv at the end of “willow wait for me”. Honeysuckle rose is of course another classic and standout. Backing band is on point.
This started off strong, but fell off a bit around the halfway point. Sarah had a beautiful voice and a lot of talent. This recording was just a bit too long without much variety (especially in the second 30 mins). 3.4/5
5/10 jazzy and smooththhtheoadkfl;djf 5-15-2025
Pretty cool how its live. Very well performed. Just not exciting for me personally.
Kind of fun
Sarah's got a nice voice. Enjoyed the singing throughout and some of the improv. Not too much to say about the backing as her voice was the main standout. Relaxed and easy going jazz. I was definitely picturing a dimly lit Chicago room with old school cocktails being passed around while listening to this. Fav track: Willow Weep for me
Great voice. Not the kind of music that moves me though. 3/5.
Smooth jazz from the 50s pretty good but again just not for me, while there is some jazz I like mostly it's just meh lol
Surprisingly decent for a live album. Great singer.
Solid live jazz album. Quality of the recording is cuckoo.
You can get away with forgetting the words when your voice is this good, but it doesn’t make for the most re-listenable experience
I don't know who this is.
It wasn't bad. I listened to the expanded edition so i got more songs what i bargained for. The album started out great, but the end of turned into a same/same kind of end. Worth listening to it tho
This was a nice jazz taster actually not too much scat or improv
Her voice is really good, and even more impressive since it's a live, but the whole thing is just really not my style. Still enjoyable
jazz & bebop - cozy for a moment or two - enjoy in small quantities!
Hahah enjoying the loungey live vibe of this. What is Sarah Vaughn famous for? Does she have a big hit song that is her staple, I cannot remember? Just One Of Those Things > Willow Weep For Me > Be Anything But Darling Be Mine > How High The Moon > Honeysuckle Rose > September In The Rain > Thou Swell > Stairway to the Stars > Just A Gigolo "I've fouled up this song real well" hahaha. Neat little time capsule. I like these small room live albums, feels like I'm there. Cool energy. It's cute. Now that we've been at this a second, I think I've decided my ratings maybe mean.... 1 - No, 2 - Fine, 3 - Good, 4 - Great, 5 - Incredible. And the thing is, maybe the majority of albums on this 1000-album list will be a 2. So even though I like this, is it closer to FINE or is it closer to GOOD in my heart and in my soul?? Is it closer to the other 2's I've given or is it closer to the 3's? It doesn't feel like a 4 or a 5, so...
I don’t like jazz, but of all the jazz I don’t like this is the type of jazz I don’t like the least. Inoffensive.
I liked it, but middle of the road jazz album for me. Nothing blew me away, but it was pleasant to listen to
Pretty good. I like the jazzy voice and old-school style. Nothing really stuck out though.
Nice enough vocals, not really my thing but I wouldn't switch away.
Nice recording, great voice. Easy listening. Not something I am super into, but good to have on for some ambiance.
Not a huge jazz fan.
Mellow but fun with recorded bloopers
A fun listen, especially with the feel of the live room and audience.
It’s fun, chill to put on in the background if I’m cooking or something.
There are different versions of this on streaming services. There is a shorter version which includes two songs where she messes up or admits she doesn't know the lyrics, which seemed a bit weird to include on a live album paid for and released by a major label. There's a longer version too with a song called Dancing In the Dark which has nothing to do with The Boss.
Another one of these situations where I respect the talent but I find the style of music boring.
Skadibi bopp ba ba
What an absolutely beautiful voice Sarah had. This is not the type of music I usually seek out but I enjoyed this one.-
Beatiful voice but live albums are almost always voyeuristically dull. Will need to relisten though, I was quite distracted.
Really Fun good vibes got a little bored of the jazz singing
An interesting curio from Vaughan’s vaunted career. Your enjoyment of it may depend on your appreciation of jazz stylings from the time - two songs feature flubs (one is actually all flub) which Vaughn plays into stylistic choice. For me this lacks the tone of Ella Fitzgerald or the power of Billie Holliday but its opened me up to Vaughn as a performer.
why is the spotify version of this so fucked
Good voice, dull songs. I do love that they leave in all the nitty gritty. That's fun.
Vacker röst men i övrigt mest standardjazz. Lät som Sonya Hedenbratt!
Good but not really my bag. Slow, amazing voice. Decent background music for something relaxed
It's not bad, just not something I enjoy. I didn't remember any of the songs after one full listen of the album.
Alright, this is a tough one. It should knock me out - live set, cozy club, killer voice. But instead, it sort of just coasts. Like jazz dinner theatre for people too polite to interrupt dessert. There’s a sweetness to it, but little bite, and almost no danger. Two spins and I’m still waiting to catch whatever magic others swear is in there. It's classy. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - September In The Rain - Just One Of Those Things
Solid. So so short
Very nice
Good music not something I would ever listen to on my own
It's a charming album. Kind of a classic showtune sound with a lovely voice.
eh
Итс окэй. Приятно, не очень разнообразно. Лучшая песня - Willow Weep For Me.
This was fun. I liked its rawness and thought the trio was talented.
Great classic. To old tho
It’s great for what it is, but not something that’s going to stick with me for a long time.
Very pleasant
Listened to while reading The buffalo hunter hunter and Mar Morto
Good jazz. The parts are funny when she sings about not knowing the words but the band plays on
Her vocals are great, but this was just okay to me.
Correcto
Classic voice. Even live she sounds great.
3.5
These artists were just built different back then. What a voice, sounded more like a studio album than love. 3/5
I think a lot of people assume that good jazz relies on the god-tier talents of a single musician and/or band leader. In truth, the greatest jazz albums all have multiple players who are god-tier, and those records showcase what makes every single band member special. At Mister Kelly’s seems to do the opposite of that. Here, with purpose, the spotlight seems to only be focused on Sarah Vaughan, who was apparently one of the premier jazz singers of the 50’s. This spotlight seems to be a way to highlight that fact, and it clearly tries to use the live album to underline what makes her so naturally special. As a result, the trio backing her are meant to fade into the background, appearing nonexistent. In theory, this should work, if it was executed correctly. The issue, of course, is that it wasn’t executed correctly. For starters, while Vaughan *is* a good vocalist, she’s good in the way Jack White is a good guitarist– they’re a unique amalgamation of their influences. They aren’t well-known for bringing something original to the table. In Vaughan’s case, that means you’re in for a lot of Fitzgerald and Holiday stylings, which is cool, and she is able to execute. But in a live context, it feels…underwhelming, mostly. It’s hard to hear At Mister Kelly’s and not just wish we had another Billie Holiday album on this list, because Vaughan isn’t doing anything special here. In fact, as “How High the Moon” demonstrates, she doesn’t even seem prepared enough to blow me away. This well-trained but uninteresting vocal style would be acceptable if it was supported by interesting musicianship, but again, the trio are purposefully fading into the background here in an attempt to give Vaughan all of the spotlight. In practice, had they done anything to flesh out her weak spots, it would have endeared me more to her vocal style. As it stands, without the support of multiple god-tier musicians, At Mister Kelly’s leaves me bored to death. Which sucks, because I think Vaughan does have the potential talent to blow me away. Listening to her self-titled record, which features the late Clifford Brown [and Herbie Mann], that’s a record that showcases Vaughan as a vocalist while still offering something interesting by framing her against other great jazz musicians. I may not think it’s the greatest jazz album I’ve ever heard, but it’s a million times more interesting than At Mister Kelly’s. I know Vaughan was insanely popular for her time, and I can see how that might be a motivating factor to include her on this list, but when a much stronger studio album is staring you right in the face, it feels insane to include a mediocre live album instead. As an introduction, maybe it’s worth it, but repeated listens reveal its weakness.
Her voice is really good at times, and others not so much. Interesting in how live albums used to be recorded. I like it. A good bit of people don’t. I give a bump for brevity.

The speaking parts were pretty funny tbh
Classic jazz album. Pretty relaxed, laid back style, which I personally do not prefer. It’s not ethereal music either, so it’s just like sitting through it. Can see where appeal is though
Ganz in Ordnung, Jazz halt
Unoffensive
Very enjoyable album
So, my first ever jazz or jazz adjacent album is a live recording, not off to a great start. There's a lot to like here however; this whole thing's got a really warm, cozy atmosphere to it, piano arrangements are all lovely, and Vaughan herself has a powerful singing voice (with a slightly raspy quality I find quite nice). Hell of a vibrato too. That being said, I just wish the bass and drums were just a bit louder, but I'm guessing thats just an unfortunate quirk of the live recording. I didnt particularly like the last track; with how loud her voice is all the scatting got on my nerves pretty quick. But overall, pretty solid. I'm not sure if this is something I'd really come back to, but I enjoyed my time listening quite a bit, even if it's a genre that's far from what I usually gravitate to.
This was a live recording of a performance. I liked it. Somewhere in the middle of timelessly beautiful and boring nice restaurant/hotel lobby music, it's definitely not something I like because I'm giving my full attention to it. Put me in a good mood while working but didn't really make me feel any kind of way either. It's pretty light jazz and really beautiful singing. Will probably put it on again next time I wanna get work done.
Not my favorite but did enjoy it 3.5
It was nice!
Random thoughts: * The first song really jumped and was a good song that pulled me in. After that it was kinda mediocre to be honest but I still like it overall. There just wasn't another song that spoke to me as much as the first one. * I kinda wonder what makes Sarah Vaughan different from the other classic singers (Ella, Etta James, etc.). Maybe I'm just a noob and need to do more research but they kind of all blend together. I could hear the same being said about other artists of similar genres. * I came away thinking I like Ella Fitzgerald better and would choose her over Sarah Vaughan if provided the choice. Still an enjoyable listen but probably won't be picking this one out specifically.
Lovely lovely music just for a romantic mood
sunday morning music for me
A good voice but ultimately not for me
Wonderful voice, relaxed style.
Great voice. Okay songs.
Todo lo que digo es un 10/10 sobre todo la voz de Sarah. Es siempre bueno conocer leyendas de la música, aunque esta no sea de mi estilo. Todos los temas me parecieron similares, me faltó explosión. Nota: 3.0
This was pretty good.
he’ll yah
Hermoso disco de jazz. La voz de Sarah Vaughan es realmente dulce e inspiradora. Gran álbum.
This isn’t my kind of thing but I can appreciate her voice & the music. It took me to a small bar in a city, sipping whisky in a smokey atmosphere in a time I wasn’t born in.
I'm not sure if it's something I'd put on a lot, as I'm not usually big on jazz standards and classics, but as a capsule of a particular time, place and especially atmosphere, this works quite nicely.
This is a fine 1950s vocal album but I see no reason you need to hear this to understand contemporary rock and pop.
This was a nice one for the weekend. Good Saturday morning music...
Suena bien!
Very nice and smooth jazzy tunes
Very charming!
jazz.. carino ma dopo pranzo non lo posso ascoltare...
Es otra liga, jazz muy clásico
Bit run of the mill but a nice experience nonetheless
Wasn’t on Spotify. Listened to some other stuff of jet’s. Cool vocal jazz.
Was nice
Stark 3
Not my taste
Ok I think I like jazz … specially when there vocals as beautiful as Sarah … I also found the live aspect of it to be enriching it does make me feel like I’m there at times and the transitions are beautiful
Gosto de jazz. Esse jazz com vocal também é muito bom. Mas senti mais o início do álbum. Gostei de September In The Rain, Willow Weep For Me, Stairway To The Stars e Just A Gigolo
It was fine, but nothing that I felt like I need to listen to again.
Great voice...just not my thing.
I don't listen to too much jazz, especially not with vocals, but this wasn't bad. I wished it was more uptempo at times, but Willow Weep for Me was a highlight, and Just One Of Those Things was decent too. I really prefer listening to original songs though so I didn't like that every song in this album was written by someone else.
At times, her voice reminds me of Bjork. I wonder if she was influenced by Sarah.
I’m not a jazz fan so my critique isn’t the most fair. But none of the songs stuck out to me. They all sounded the same and I found myself getting bored towards the middle of each song and getting the urge to skip. Again, I don’t like jazz so my feelings on this should be taken with a grain of salt. The fact that it’s a live studio album makes this a 3 star album instead of a 2 star.
3.5
Unfortunately, my experience in jazz is not so good, even with the classics. That's why I always look forward to hearing gems I haven't heard before in this project. I haven't consciously heard anything from Sarah Vaughan yet. She has a very good voice. However, her album is too vocal-heavy for me. I didn't like it that much. 3/5
Nice, truly classic sounding, jazz / lounge vocalist. Amusing hearing her sing through not knowing words, but still working the tone and pitch
Not perfect by any means, but the live improvisation/scatting after some flubs in a few of the tracks was a bit charming. We're all human after all. Hadn't heard Sarah Vaughan prior to today, but it's easy to see now why she was regarded as one of the best jazz vocalists of her time.
Enjoyed but not sure I’d revisit.
ок
Beautiful voice, such a strong opening too. I didn't mind the "errors" in lyrics or knocking the microphone. It's a live show and it's jazz. I guess I just wasn't 100% into some of the songs, thus the mediocre review.
Overall: 6/10 Enjoyable for a one time listen. Sarah had a great voice and lots of charisma. Not much else to say really. Fav Song: Honeysuckle Rose Least Fav Song: How High the Moon
A very intimate recording. You really feel like you’re there, and she’s a joy. No ego involved, plowing through forgotten lyrics with grace, leaning completely on a voice as sweet as any other. A horn on wheels.
3/5 do i find this album enjoyable? kinda will i listen to this album again? maybe not really my cup of tea tho
What a wonderful voice 😍😍😍
Love her voice and the jazzy instrumental.
Lovely jazzy sounds, not a fan of the Ella Fitzgerald skipity boop bop shit but overall nice sound lovely background music.
A bit nasal and monotonous but overall okay
All those microphones made for a really great live recording. Love her voice but the music got repetitive for me.
Great music but not my style.
First sing, after the spoken intro, hit me haaaaaard. There’s just something so timeless about these classic jazz voices! Instantly brings calm. As the album goes on, it does all start to meld together, but this would be great in vinyl, spinning on a rainy day. Listen again: yes Purchase for my collection: maybe Favourite Song: Willow Weep For Me
Lovely music. Her voice is beautiful and the band is really good. A good album. 3/5 Might listen again
solid album, would not give it a second listen though
Nice voice but too slow!
2.6 Pleasant to have on in the background, but not much more than that. Audio quality is great for '57, I'll give it that for sure. You could almost be in the room with her. But would you massively want to be? Happy to have listened to it, but happy to be finished.
We did Ella Fitzgerald recently and this suffered in comparison - this was good but not great.
Nice album, pretty sure I’ve had it before 6/10
I've never heard of Sarah Vaughan, quite interested in this, especially considering it's live. She has a really deep voice, pretty interesting, obviously very jazzy music. Pretty minimal instrumentation, sounds like maybe just a piano, drums, and bass. This is pretty good background stuff, I think it gets a little one-notey after a while, but it's overall pretty damn good.
For the most part I enjoyed this album and it is very close to a four. The worst thing about this album is on some songs you can hear one of the other members going "huh hmmm hmm huh hmm" and making weird grunting noises through out the whole song. She has a great voice, but besides the fact that this is live, I don't think there is enough here to really separate her from other jazz artists in this style. Very high 3.
Lovely voice.
It's jazz alright
I liked this album. It was a vibe for sure. I was listening while driving around while it was snowing and it just felt...right. Sarah Vaughan is an extremely talented singer and this live album was done really well. You even heard something fall during a song which proves that it wasn't "touched up" too much... if at all. I thought it was interesting that she closed with a song that she "didn't know the words to," but I thought it worked and I liked the song a lot. A lot of the songs do sound very similar, but she knows her style and is good at it. Although...David Lee Roth's version of "Just a Gigolo" is better. (Although, he is covering the Louis Prima version.) Actually a 3.5 Liked Songs: "Willow Weep For Me" , "Just One Of Those Things" , and "How High The Moon"
Favourite songs: September in the rain, be anything but darling be mine Album manages to transport you back to the majestic era of the 50s in chicago It being a live album really elevates it
It was fine! A bit loose for my taste.
This gave me the same feelings as watching Duck Soup. Historically interesting, but not something I'd bothet to do again. Also, considering the introduction said Sarah had a lyric sheet, she sure did forget a lot of the words.
kz castor bass, kz pr3. устал от джаза
Cool idea to be live, like her voice
2#
It’s got great vocals from Sarah, solid instrumentals, and a pleasant atmosphere. Somewhere down the line, it gets dull and repetitive, which kills the vibe a little. Genuinely, I wish that I liked this more than I did. Top 3 Favorites: September In The Rain, Just One Of Those Things, and Stairway To The Stars No bad songs 3.50/5
Great voice and a very listenable album. Jazz is still not totally my thing so hard to get too excited about this but I did enjoy.
fem. vocal jazz, 1957 -> 3
Day 0: It's like a vintage Amy Winehouse. Her voice is easy on the ears and versatile in the sense that it flows dynamically between notes and cadences. I especially like this little trill she does at the end of some lyrics, which is hard to explain. It's not very consistent, however, some are definitely better than others and there are two or three misses. In terms of life: recently broke up with Femke, am trying to get a job, pretty depresso and yeah, nothing that I haven't known for the last 5 years.
Easy to listen to. I liked her version of witchcraft but otherwise this genre gets a bit boring to me after a few songs
Enjoyed this - it’s a 7/10, and I’m afraid 4/5 is much too high, so it gets a 3/5 on a technicality.
Ikke noget at klage over, hun har en rigtig god stemme. Jeg tror jeg bedre kan lide jazz sangere der er lidt mere intense, det her er lidt baggrundsjazz. Sådan noget man sætter på til middag. Det skal der self også være plads til
Enjoyable and great sounding.
Very enjoyable album, I may revisit some of the songs on this album. Low 3.
One thing I love about these super old live records is the warmth of it all. I could instantly turn this record on and get the feeling im actually inside a murky 50s jazz bar, cigarette smoke and cheap wine filling the air. Hopefully I can review Sinatra soon and expand on that thought. Sarah Vaughan has a really damn good voice, and I'm one for a solid vocal jazz album, but there's something about this one that just escapes me. It's not a very deep record, and it's not trying to be, just a club live set with enough grace to carry you through the wee hours of the night. And sometimes that's all you need. 6/10
I don’t know why I can’t get into jazz. It’s easy listening and usually done by very talented performers. It reminds me of nice things like Charlie Brown cartoons and Christmas time! But for some reason I just haven’t been able to find my way in, so I was excited to see a jazz album appear for today’s album. That it’s a live album is such a cool thing. You get to know Sarah as a performer and also get a peak into her personality (see: How High the Moon). But no songs particularly stuck out to me and I was mostly bored. Some of the albums on this list became annoying when they got boring, but At Mister Kelly’s remained pleasantly boring for the most part. It’s clearly a well done album by a very talented woman, it just isn’t for me. But I’ll continue to leave my heart and ears open for future jazz albums just in case there is one for me out there!
Good, I guess. Perhaps great - for people who love this.
Kind of cool format but not my kind of music unfortunately. 2.5
Great voice, just not that into jazz.
Beautiful voice and lyrics. Unfortunately just not my cup of tea.
Great voice obviously and some great song choices e.g. Just A Gigolo. But the arrangements get a bit samey.
High 3s, this was very good.
She has an amazing voice and the musical backing is first rate. Like Night Hawks at The Dinner, this album has a real atmosphere. I quite like this. Definitely a good album
Certainly a good live recording but not sure I "needed" to listen to this. Seems like a standard jazz club recording. Nice grooves, nice vibe.
I enjoy it

It's nice. I'm glad to have heard it. The rawness of the live recording is quite charming.
Vocal jazz is not really my cup of tea, but since it was served to me I took sips that mostly refined my crazy little tastebuds.
wonderful voice, fav songs: honeysuckle rose, September in rain
Great voice, good music for the background like the place this was recorded. Not something I would seek out on my own though.
In the era of Big Band music akin to this, Sarah Vaughn knows how to make this entertaining from start to finish. Hearing this as a live performance added so much more to it than needed and made a great time piece out of it. All of comments in between songs made this more enjoyable. Would this go into my regular daily playlist; probably not. But, this is definitely a great piece of history to listen to.
I'm sure I've heard better from her; a very bare group and she shares the spotlight with the piano. Her voice appears harsh at times and the track listing is pretty samey. Nice but nothing spectacular.
Hmmm!...nice voice and everything, but this type of music just bores me and leaves me cold. Not my cup of tea and I was glad when the album came to a close. I'll give it three stars because she's a top-notch singer, but that's all.
Usually like live albums, but not the biggest fan of this one. Would have rather listened to the original versions.
This album has one of the best opening songs ever. It just blew me away by how good it was for 1957. Better yet, this is a live album. Unfortunately, the other songs don't stand a chance to the aforementioned first track. Vaughan saves those tracks from being garbage. 3 stars for "At Mister Kelly's".
Incredible sound quality for a live album in 1957. Buttery smooth throughout 3/5
Lovely vocals and good old-fashioned music. Unfortunately, the live album format doesn't contribute much here. Favorite track: "Willow Weep For Me"
I’m OK with all the 1950 albums this list generates partly because it was the decade I was born and there might be some hidden gems i don’t know about. That is true in one or two of the albums so far generated but the rest seem to be live recordings. I would say that the ratio of live albums from the 1950’s seems higher than other decades as there are fewer albums from the 50’s. Anyway putting that to one side and the argument about the validity of live recordings on this list at all, I did listen and quite enjoyed this album. Sarah Vaughan is someone I know very little about but these songs were vaguely familiar as many were sung by my dad when he was shaving in the morning. Not good at the time (as I was still trying to sleep) but anything now to remind me of my dad is very welcome. 2.5/5 21/10/24
Jazzy. Nice voice. Musically incomprehensible to me however.
What a voice, felt like I was there.
Yeah was pretty good but didn't grab me enough for 4 stars
It’s been 3 days since I listened to this and I can’t remember it well enough to call it good, but I also don’t remember it being boring, so there’s that. Live woman jazz good
Nice, but very low key. Never quite went deep enough to escape the background in the office. Two and a half. Fave track: September in the Rain
This is a mostly relaxing and enjoyable live recording of jazz tunes and standards from 1957 and a showcase of the immense talent that was Sarah Vaughan. Her voice is smoky and immediate with heavy vibrato and perfect pitch and rhythm. You get a sense of how it might have felt in a 50s Chicago Jazz Club. The mistakes are charming and played off with humour and talent. Only 20 years after this, live albums were multi-tracked and often fixed up and overdubbed in the studio, becoming sterile and too perfect. This recording shows that audiences love real human performances, mistakes and all. Would be nice to hear more of the trio but that is typical of the time. Overall 3/5 as Sarah is wonderful but live albums are just less interesting to me than studio albums.
Chill
classic
Thoroughly enjoyable window into another era. Beautiful tone of voice. As is often the case with listening to these albums on spotify, it's the playlist that continues afterwards that amplifies my gut feelings about an album, and yesterday's was wonderful.
Good but I can’t handle more than the first 9 songs. Very “live” performance. Cool recording on site at an old venue.
Solid and beautiful live album. I tend to prefer instrumental jazz overall, but this was very pleasant.
All in all a bit tiring.
que capa linda hein pqp a qualidade sonora bem boa, mal parece ser ao vivo. bem bonito, mas não é pra mim não.
Never heard a live album before - An interesting concept Another 3.5 Very strong beginning but then quickly slows down Sarah Vaughan has a gorgeous voice
Beautiful voices, I feel the live aspect didn't help this however, I actually sought out some her studio stuff after this and it's worlds better
Sarah Vaughan has a fantastic voice, but this isn't an album I'd listen to again. I don't think I'm a big jazz fan. This might be nice background music at a low key dinner party.
Nice but fairly unremarkable live jazz album. I enjoyed the improvised lyrics on the last track though!
Love a bit of Sarah Vaughan, not a great album though.
Nice
A nice 50s jazz album, glad I listened, her voice gets a little draining come The end though, think that stops me giving it a 4.
jazzy!
Another day, another live album. Niet slecht ze, ideaal album om op te leggen in een koffiehuis ofzo. 2.8
Beautiful voice and good music, not a huge fan of live music nor this style of music for an entire album but it is something I could definitely see myself turning on a track or two in the future when I am just hanging out listening to stuff. Also feel like this would've helped listening at night to get more into the mood, not really an early morning album in my opinion. 3/5
not my style
It's super smooth and full of vibe, but probably a tad too 'jazz standard' or something. Never-the-less, very lovely.
Not my favorite jazz album but still a good listen.
Some good immersion
A very sweet voice, but too many same sounding lullabies for me.
I can't stand the whole "I forgot the words let's scat and vocalese instead ha ha ha" schtick.
Very cozy album, very cool album cover. Really enjoyed hearing this. This type of music has a very calming effect on me. Perfect to put on during fall or whenever you fell like relaxing a bit. No song particularly stood out, but I just liked the whole package. Strong 3.
Sarah Vaughan clearly has a nice voice and this was quite a nice Jazz album. I didn't think it being a live album brought anything to the table. None of the songs stood out in particular. In other words a decent album but nothing too memorable for me.
This wasn't my favorite, but wasn't bad.
Quality is amazing for a live recording in 1957, beautiful singing voice too! It's weird to hear something that sounds so modern in the way they speak/sing and the recording quality when I know it's super old. I guess most pre-60s media portrayals of the way people spoke are done up for the big screen.
Absolute class act. Breezy and relaxed trio and Sarah Vaughan's top flight vocals, lovely. Never listened to one of her albums before, so don't know if this is really better regarded than a studio one. The Ella skit made me laugh on the last track. Great live session from a great jazz act. What's to dislike?
Laid back and gentle in spots. Not as powerful as I expected.
A voz dela pede melhores gravação, pareceu-me um disco ao vivo para consumo rápido e fácil, bem menor que a qualidade do canto dela.
Incredible voice It was just lacking something though and I'm not sure what 3 ⭐️
Vocal jazz is not really my thing, I need all the wild improv solos. But her voice is great, there's nothing offensive about it.
FAVO: September in the rain, Honeysuckle rose
Fun and jazzy.
Very smooth and pleasant vocal jazz, which was a good listen at late night. It's always hard to rate live albums, though, especially a jazz album compared to all the other studio albums on this list. The occassional clappings, talkings, laughs are a bit too distracting, and if I have to say something more criticism, it's also a bit too long overall.
Beautiful voice - not my genre though.
Great live performances. Love the keys used throughout and the drums are very lively. Sarah's voice is just awesome, never really listened to that style of jazz voice before. Had a lot of joy at the beginning listening but the songs started to blend in with each other after a while. Some great humor in it as well. Stand out songs: September in the Rain, Willow Weep for Me
Yeah, I'm not so into this. Not to say that this isn't good, it just isn't my kind of music. Nothing stood out to me.
i like jazz :)
She’s definitely talented, but the production isn’t great and her performance is inconsistent. Maybe I just don’t enjoy live albums much.
Jazz. Nun gut.
Couldn’t find. Listened to other Sarah Vaughan album. It was good
Really good jazz vocals.
A charming, pleasant listen.
I appreciate her beautiful voice but I am not a big fan of jazz.
One of those where I appreciate it more than I like it. Not a genre I'm fond of, but this one makes me see the appeal. Loungey piano-bar jazz with an incredible vocal performance. What a voice! Warm, relaxed, commanding, casually virtuoso, hugely charismatic, her phrasing and cadence demands attention.
Den koncert gad jeg godt have været med til.
I don't like live albums a ton. Most of the time I feel like they more so add noise to the tracks than anything else. I think I feel a bit different about this one specifically though. Sarah here very much evoke feelings of some kind of jazz-club-speakeasy-whiskey-in-hand-smokey-room-film-noir thing. Her voice is so smooth and comforting, and I think the "liveness" of the album almost makes the whole thing into more of an ambiance thing for me that almost transports me to this calm place. Something that a classic concert live album has never done for me which I find interesting. Standouts Just One Of Those Things Willow Weep For Me 3/5

I usually love a good vocal jazz record and there's something about the intimate and quiet nature of this album's performance that draws me in. The stark instrumentation with only a piano functioning as a melodic driver works well to spotlight Sarah's soft and loose, yet impactful vocal performance. I don't know anything about Mister Kelly's but even the audience applause makes it seem like a very small, restrained venue. While it was nice to be lulled into this album's warmth, I didn't find much to hold onto aside from the boilerplate enjoyability of a performance like this. I did enjoy the piano solo and funny little stumble on the otherwise melancholic 'Willow Weep for Me'. I enjoy 'How High The Moon' for similar reasons - despite Sarah resorting to scatting out the entire song. My favorite piano solo has to be on 'Honeysuckle Rose', maybe my favorite song on here in general. While I may not revisit this one as often as other vocal jazz records on here, I can always admire an album like this upon a first listen.
It would appear that there are many things of which I am not a fan. This is one of those.
Not my favourite jazz but not my least favourite
perfectly fine jazz album, once again doesn't feel indispensable
That's not my taste in musik. But some pleasant songs - relaxing
Hyggelig afslappende jazz Vibe
groovy
Her voice is amazing. Utterly beautiful. It felt like listening to Christmas. Grateful to have been introduced.

Hella good voice. Hella boring concert
She had some pipes ngl
Not much to say really. Yeah she’s got a great voice, and it’s nice to have some more upbeat jazz backing, but ultimately the songs are just OK.
Background music for sure. Jazzy
Not my thing, but very nice.
Never listened to this before. This is a great-sounding live album which really showcases Sarah Vaughan's voice. It makes for good listening but can be a little repetitive by the end. The inclusion of songs she didn't know the lyrics to and some of the other interplay makes it memorable.
Wonderful to hear the live performance captured organically. Sarah Vaughan is maybe my favorite vocalist from this era, her voice is so bright and she seems to be truly having a great time.
2.55
All right, but not my favorite
Pretty good!!! Not what I would usually listen to, but good!
A nice relaxing album for a Sunday evening. Enjoyable
Great singer but obviously quite dated material
Lovely. Playful lyrics with a silky smooth voice.
3.5 really. I enjoyed this, and it had a good sense of humour!
I do not listen to live albums because I do not enjoy having cheering and clapping throughout the songs, however this album is full of really cozy piano music, and as piano is my favorite instrument, I am rather biased towards it. The singing sometimes gets loud but that could be due to it being a live setting.
What a beautiful voice she has, albeit not my favorite work of hers but nonetheless incredible range and melodies. In general, live albums to me are higher ranked because of how difficult it is to perform live vs in a studio.
It was fine
Really captures the mood of the performance. Not my style but good nonetheless [EDIT - downgraded 2nd time around, quite a bit blander than I remember; I guess the moral is never listen to the bonus tracks]
I appreciate the beauty of her voice, though not the music type. I can easily see this being a 5 for many, but for me, a 3.
This thing was perfectly good, and honestly will probably make my "Sunday morning reading albums" list (the full version is 73 minutes, so great for background listening). Like I said with Dusty Springfield a few days ago, this list is a bit light on early female vocalists, so I appreciate that this was included. This is a '50s live jazz recording at Mister Kelly's in Chicago. One thing that really stood out to me is how good the audio quality is for a live recording in 1957. The early live rock albums from the '60s can be rough to listen to, and it makes sense that a jazz club recording would be better quality, but I was impressed by just how good this was. It's really clear throughout and her voice is wonderful. While I enjoyed it all perfectly well, there wasn't a whole lot that brought it above "nice" for me. She's clearly talented and it's an enjoyable listen, but I didn't find it particularly groundbreaking or memorable. Seeing this live with a few cocktails would make for a great Friday evening, but that's about it for me. Favorite song: September In The Rain Other: Will Weep For Me, Be Anything But Darling Be Mine, Stairway To The Stars, Honeysuckle Rose, Embraceable You 6/21/24
Jazz. Canta muy bien. Un 3.
-this is very very smooth… I’ve never really listened to much vocal jazz other than Billie Holiday but it’s captivating -Live albums are a lost art, I felt like I was there listening to her sing at a fancy cafe surrounded by rich 50s geezers -Favorites are Just One Of Those Things, Honeysuckle Rose, and How High The Moon
Nice album, but was too short and the lyrics were alright at best. All of the other parts sounded okay though.
I liked her voice and the instruments, but the background was too quiet for me and many of the songs felt the same. Many of the lyrics were cheap as well.
115/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Feels like it would be used for rap samples nowadays. Great voice
Perfectly good album, nothing spectacular or overly enjoyable but it was good nothing more nothing less
This was fine. None of the songs stood out from another. I do not understand why it made this list.
Live performances is one of the best ways for someone to understand the power and beauty of music. The way a musician can completely elevate their own art in so many ways just through the setting and even the restrictions of a live show is so amazing. Such is the case with this record. I’ve never heard any of Sarah Vaughan’s music. But it became immediately apparent from the first song that this performance was going to feel more intimate than the average live jazz album. Every song is so delicate and simple. This definitely has something to do with Sarah herself. Or more specifically her voice. There is also something about how quiet the crowd is. Crowd noises can kill a live album for me. Especially if they are too loud. But when they are just subtle enough that they only appear as background noise, they add so much to the recording. On the second song here, it sounds like someone drops something, and people start laughing. It’s little things like that which make the performance actually feel alive. Although I’ll admit, as much as I love the vibe of this album, and the music itself is good, it’s so simple to the point it becomes repetitive. Once you’ve heard one song, you have basically heard about the rest of the album. Doesn’t mean it isn’t necessarily a worthwhile listening experience. Because Sarah and the backing band are great. It just didn’t blow my mind in any place. But it felt like a really chill and warm way to start my morning. Maybe not as essential as some jazz giants, but a solid live performance either way. Rating: 6/10
Bit repetitive. Great voice
Objectively good but not my vibe
ok
Nice vibes. Don't like live albums that much although this is charming in parts. September Rain and Honeysuckle Rose my faves. Maybe a 3.
Solid live jazz performance. Sarah Vaughan has a wonderful voice. Nothing too crazy but it was pleasant to listen to. Some funny interjections from her because she doesn’t know the lyrics or something happens with the band. Standouts: Willow Weep For Me, Be Anything But Darling Be Mine, and Thou Swell.
3 - This album for me needs the right setting and right move, I don't think I'm putting it on anytime of day. So I think it would be higher but right now it's a solid 3. I felt like I heard the whole album after the first song.
Nice background music, nothing more to me. 2.8/5
Jazz
Before listening to this album, I knew nothing about Sarah Vaughan, but I definitely enjoyed listening to her. To be honest, I can't say I'll go back to her on a regular basis, but it was definitely a nice, chill, and smooth jazz album. Her voice stood out the most for me, which really showcased her talent the most.
Amazing voice, range and rhythm, just not the sort of jazz I like to listen to
The best part of the album was getting the intimate feel of being in a Chicago Jazz club in the 50's. Stage banter and recording was the best part. Just never been a big fan of jazz singers per se.
It was fine. Not something i'd listen to again. Some of the stage banter was funny.
Enjoyed this
Yeah well, it's an excellent voice and a pretty impressive album but I'm not a jazz guy i guess
Kevyttä jazzia naisvokaaleilla. Rentoa kuunneltavaa aamuun. Livenauhoitus jossa "aitoutta". Välillä oli sanat hukassa ja vikaan kappaleeseen ei ollutkaan enää sanoja ollenkaan. Parhaat: Ei oikeastaan mikään jäänyt erityisenä mieleen. Kaikki aika ok
Chill
So chill after a day with so many thoughts
Not really my sort of thing bit it was pretty chill and pretty short
Sounds like an impossibly pretentious dinner party that nobody wants to be at but they still smile politely. It’s nice enough but not how I want to spend a Friday night.
beautiful voice. I could see myself in a bar with a big fat cigar chillin to it. im not sure im in the right frame at home listening to jazz. no track really stood out but you can tell the band and sarah ooze quality. overall, its an ok album for me. 3/5.
A great classics jazz album
Netter jazz, schöne Hintergrundmusik, letzter song goofy
Nice background listening, gentle and relaxing while not being boring about it
Enjoyable jazz album, Sarah Vaughan has a marvelous voice.
This is a fun live album because they left in some obvious goofs and playful stuff that normally gets removed. But I think the vocals are too high in the mix and I'm pretty indifferent to this music on the whole.
Cute
Muistuttaa viking line luonge artistia kuunneltaessa.. Kehu... uskomaton laatu välillä merellä.. Finnish tradition go drink and party there.. low income family day trip... Take own food.. and water.. survive.. watch sea..
The start of this album was captivating, but it became repetitive by the end. Sarah Vaughan's voice, however, is perfect. It was nice to hear a live album, the imperfections make this album even lovelier. Standout tracks: - Willow weep for me: 4/5 - Just one of those things: 4/5 - Be anything but darling be mine: 5/5 (perfect first dance song)
She's good. It's not my wheelhouse - 50s, Jazz, Live, but I can respect it.
Great jazz supper-club-style album. Sarah has a beautiful voice. I could see putting her on during a dinner gathering.
oh yeah, oh yeah 🕺
Classic jazz. Like Aretha Franklin more.
sarah vaughan slay
Litt mas men ellers greit 3.5
An easy listen. This is the type of live album that I do enjoy, the sounds of the audience made the experience better.
