Punk is so... so...
Very annoying.
Urgh.
If this album was a cup of tea, it would most definitely not belong to me.
Meh. Might have caught me on a bad day. I like punk, I like lou reed, I tried to like this album but just couldn't get into it.
no gracias
What a shock. English punk/postpunk trash. 1
I really don’t have much to say about this album. It sounds like every other post-punk album, and I like it as much too.
FLOP.
I’m so tired of these terrible British bands being on this list. The sun should permanently set on this fucks.
Noise
This felt like a whole lot of nothin
Loud rock, felt like an incoherent wall of noise at times. Jam band vibes?
Generally empty and repetitive. This is musically stable, but there isn’t much to latch on to or appreciate. The dynamic melodies are often unsatisfying, leaving very few songs worth returning to.
this wasn’t good. riffs were super repetitive and the vocals were just bad
I'd give it zero if possible
Well, that wasn't the worst that we've had to endure from this list. It sure was long at 1 hour and 5 minutes. And sometimes the songs sounded like they were 1 hour and 5 minutes - and VERY repetitive! Got annoying sometimes. I won't be saving this to any of my lists, and will not return to listen to anymore of their 'music'. 97 albums!!???? OMG. NO.
Repetitive simple music. Repetitive simple percussion. Repetitive fairly monotone simple lyrics. Not much to like for me.
this aint it
Meh
70s punk is not my strong suit and that just proved to be true in spades with this larry right here. A very inconsistent album that I just couldn’t get into. Showed a beacon of hope on track 14 but it never kicked it into second gear. Vocals were always undercooked or drowned out whenever I did get to hear them. Far from my cup of tea.
It's better to listen to Sonic Youth
Did not like this at all. No polish to the production or songwriting. Sounds like a high school band screwing around in the garage.
I found myself surprised by just how horribly bad this one was. Just noise on top of more noise with lyrics that didn't make any sense. Really bad pull today.
I'm learning more and more throughout this list that English post-punk or maybe just post-punk isn't my thing at all. I started to list what I don't like about the album but instead of that I will just say that its not for me one bit.
Never liked The Fall and this effort has done nothing to change my mind.
Did really do anything for me and was very long
horse shit
Too repetitive and head banging for my taste.
Best Song: Vixen. At least the female vocalist can sing. Worst Song: Gut of the Quantifier. Jesus the singer is so annoying. The song could have been good without him inanely blurting out whatever the fuck it is he's blurting. Overall: I hate this band. I've hated the two previous albums of theirs that I've had to listen to on this list, and I hate this one too. The singer is always either just talking - which is uninteresting - or when they're singing it is just this endlessly annoying, whiny repetition of the title of the song.
genuine ass
Cruiser's Creek couldn't bring it to 2 stars. Vocals were so annoying.
My god this was a slog to get through. Over an hour long, and it's just all over the place
Hin und wieder klingt so etwas wie eine Melodie durch, was aber sofort durch furchtbaren Gesang übertönt wird. War eine Qual durchzuhören.
No
uhhhh....yeah, no
While I liked a lot of the instrumentals, especially the guitar, this music just isn’t it for me and I don’t understand how it can be it for others
1. manzion - 1.5 2. barn - 1.5 3. barmy - 1.5 4. need - 1 5. child - 0 6. l.a.- 1 7. Vixen - 1.5 8. Ahead - 1 9. Gut - 0 10. House - 0 11. Paint - 1 12. Damo - 1 13. Yarbles - 1.5 14. Petty - 1 15. Rollin - 0 16. Creek - 0
typical 80's punk. it's clear by the third song. they only know three chord progressions.
I almost gave this a 2. Glad I changed my mind.
Did not like at all and only made it half way through.
This is very very shit. Not a huge amount of it was enjoyable and some of the skits / talking parts were an ear attack. Specific rating - 1.4 Fav song - barmy Least fav - spoilt Victorian child
No. Just no. There's a bit of a riff and some mumble talking on top of it. Rollin Dany is the only thing here that sounds like a song, and it's a cover.
I'm sure this vibes for someone but I'm not one of those people.
Maybe a little harsh but I couldn’t wait for this to end. Didn’t do anything for me.
i REALLY wanted to like this more. it just was too repetitive and kind of annoying. this is a very high one star almost 2, and i fully get why people enjoy this. it’s just not for me
I didn't get why The Fall and Mark E Smith were ever rated so highly, and listening to the album again after all these years, nothing has changed my mind, so overrated it's unreal.
I had never heard of this band and found this album to be terrible from just about every angle. I never want to listen to any of these songs again.
Started off thinking this was okay. Slowly started hating it more and more as the album went on until I just couldn't really finish it. Music shouldn't annoy you!
My third album by the Fall and hoping it’s the last. My problem with this band is the instrumentation is really good, even great in parts. I cannot stand the vocals. All 3 albums I’ve heard sound like the vocals were recorded in a different time zone than the rest and it’s very jarring to me.
Not for me. 1/5
An awful album. Every song was so repetitive, both lyrically and musically. Give a group of 10 year olds a month and they could come up with a better album, even if they didn’t know how to play instruments.
Dude we heard you the first time
Nah
really thought the singer was saying g “sparkletts are in jail” before I realized the song was called “spoilt Victorian child” even knowing that he’s saying…. I still hear sparkletts are in jail. the thing is, this genre of music was done better by others!!
Another album I have never heard of, and a band I have only ever heard the name of, I think. Surprised that this is from 1985, I thought they were a 2000's or later band. On listening, I see I have already heard Live at the Witch Trials, which I did not like. For this, I found it unobjectionable until Paintwork, at which point something snapped and the repetitive tunes went from being just boring to hard to tolerate, dropping it to one star. Mumbly, muted, tedious. Too many songs, most of them too long.
Not a whole lot to say about this one. British garage punk rock that also felt weirdly devoid of energy and drive. Very boring with songs that go on for way too long
This is awful. How can punk be so boring?
This is slightly less awful than the other Fall album I've gotten on this site. Does anyone actually like this or is it just a hipster irony thing? "You don't get it, maaaaan. It's actually supposed to be unlistenable garbage."
Uninspiring instrumentals and simplistic and repetitive lyrics briefly interrupted by the sound of me hitting the skip button. They stay on time at least. How did so many bad British bands make this list?
Like a tramp in a shopping centre.
Πολύ κακό
I didn't know post-punk could be this tedious. I was leaning towards a higher rating for what bits I did enjoy, but as I found myself checking how much of the album was left more and more, I had to concede that I really just don't like this. If I was drunk at a live show in someone's basement this would probably hit, but I'm sober in the daytime and think this is fucking boring.
"Post Punk" Clearly not "Post" enough. Just as irritating as the average punk band.
Just not my thing. It just doesn’t sound very good
No. It's bad. I don't like it at all.
Ruined my morning
This was uneventful for me.
I didn’t get this.
not for me
I must be a spoilt Victorian child coz that was as boring as batshit. Do yourself a saving grace and give this one a miss.
What a waste of an hour, it was like 3 talented instrumentalists got behind a singer who couldn’t sing or write music If you can’t get it right by the 8th album then hang it up mate
Why would anyone think this rubbish is worth performing let alone recording is beyond me. Sounding this bad isn’t edgy, or artistic, or meaningful; it’s what you get when a bunch of deluded losers convince themselves their lack of talent is actually something to be proud of.
I used to think Punk was pretty bad, then I heard Post Punk. Spoilt Victorian Children was weird.
Whoever decided speak vocals should be a thing should be erased from history. Not only are these songs bad, they’re also long and boring. There’s some talent here but overall this is one of the dumber albums I’ve listened to.
This was longggg and all sounded the same to me. Did not enjoy.
Absolute ass. Way too much repetition. Very bad production.
Garbage. One catchy riff. Whole album sounds like it was written over a quick breakfast while suffering from the night before.
Terrible vocal mix, really difficult to discern the lyrics at times. The lack of pitch variety and where the lead’s voice registers against the backing tracks doesn’t help. As an intellectual exercise I guess this is…fine? Though at no point is it notably pleasant to listen to. Some of the instrumentals evolve in compelling directions, but just as often they become repetitive and drone on and on and on. DNF. Listened to: walking in prospect park. Favorite tracks: none
I hope they fall
My 200th Album (and a disappointment) The Fall were very much the darlings of the New Musical Express and John Peel played them endlessly on his radio show. I fell for this and bought their first album Live At The Witch Trials. I believe that is another Fall album on this list so I’ll reserve comment on that until it turns up but I was hoping that constant play would eventually reveal why the whole UK it seemed were going potty about them. It didn’t. I like my music to be in the main melodic and The Fall or should I say Mark E Smith go out of their way to be anti-melody. I hadn’t heard this album before because my initial dose of The Fall taught me to avoid them. Surprisingly the first track Mansion is a nice tune but is just a short track after which Mr Smith reverts to norm and serves up a cacophony of noise which goes nowhere. So I was right nothing had changed from 1979 when I bought the first Fall album in the six years until this was released. Nor I bet did the 30 odd albums The Fall released offer anything other that Mr Smith’s meanderings. Even now and more so since Mark died the indie radio stations wax lyrical about The Fall. There’s 3 Fall albums on this list also so even the list compilers have got them bad. So there must be something in all that but I just don’t get it. 1/5 21/7/24
I don’t like punk. 1
Not so much
I don’t find this particularly interesting. 1/5
very little musicality. Barmey sounds like and attempt to mimic Rolling Stones' Satisfaction
I would rather (Mark E Smith's The) Fall off a bridge than listen to this again
Bro sounded disinterested. I think I don’t like most 70s+80s Britrock
80s alt rock, mimicking the raw style of the violent femmes. None quite as notably catchy as blister in the sun.
I could only listen to about 10 seconds. Who knows, maybe it’s great.
Meh
3/10
Terrible, noisy shit. Completely out of tune and a struggle to finish the album
Annoying boring mess
This sucked. There’s no other way to put it. A majority of the songs are just 5 minutes of them saying the song title over and over and over again. Hated it
Mais um post-punk sem nenhuma relevância para mim.
Rubbish
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: It was ok in parts Favourite song: didn’t have one
not enjoyed
Bareuh!
Not my jam at all. I never really got into the punk scene, still doesn’t do it for me. Top 3 N/A
How this band has one album on here is baffling, never mind 3 !! For the third time.....bloody awful
noNono. Gross, boring, whiny, long, everything I dislike in an album! No.
1.5. This shit was not good!
It felt tedious at times, this album. Like musing on a series of chords was the aim of the record. I caught some B-52s-esque sound in a few of the tracks and that made me sad that I hadn’t heard any B-52s on this last so far. And that made me think that I hadn’t heard any REM on this list so far. And then I thought that there were much better albums from 1985 to have been included on this list.
Not good.
Forget about stuff like the Irish Potato Famine or Piers Morgan. This is the worst thing Britain's ever done to the world Brits are insane for liking this.
I'll be honest. Not good. Not even punk. Just nothingness. First album I have not finished.
Ok, Lool, I tried. It sounded like a blend of punk and mod and a few tracks sound like the beginnings of a Joy Division sound. Not one of the greatest albums of all time. An interesting musical sampler of sorts. if you were doing a course on the evoluition fo British music. I assume it's an important transition album, or it represents a genre or "moment" in music. but I don't like it... I wil let Wikipedia do the rest as they say it best, actually " their music has generally been characterised by an abrasive, repetitive guitar-driven sound, tense bass and drum rhythms, and Smith's caustic lyrics" yep.
Missed this one, always like an opportunity to call out Mark E. I've not gotten The Fall and never will, strange the status they are afforded. The best summation of Mark is that Frank Sidebottom's take on Hit the North was vastly superior to The Fall's version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiduNJG-Ltk&ab_channel=dwscih
Meh
Not my cup of tea.
... and this shit is an hour long!?!?
What do you know, more bog BULLSHIT from the UK. It just all sounds so eye-rollingly boring and typical. Hated every second. 1/5.
nope
No
Garbage
Every chorus was them repeating the name of the song over and over again. Like a shitty British version of Jet. Stopped 3/4 of the way through the album. Favorite song - L.A.
Did not like this one at all.
A drunk asshole mumbles into a microphone while the bass player uses studio time to learn scales and the rhythm guitar does whatever it wants. Occasionally, a girl who can't carry a tune shows up to sing. Might be tolerable if they were sticking it to the man or something, but it's all pseudointellectual navel-gazing. Best track: Mansion
Awful. Couldn't make it through it all. Very random and generic sounding
I'm sorry, I couldn't make it through it. Too long and uninteresting. Really just didn't dig it. I've also just not had a great day, so maybe my perspective is skewed. Also, The Fall is a terrible band name.
I thought I would like this, given the genre, but it didn't grab me at all.
1pokito mejor q los otros..
Not my cup of tea at all. Very mushy sound with noting really happening. Noise.
ruim
not familiar and don't want to be
Well, that was interesting. The best way I can describe this is artfully removing the art from music. The repetitive droning and intentionally bizarre vocal style seem to be designed to draw your attention to the lyrical content, then reinforce it with repetition. In other words, to me this isn't about making music, it's about using elements of music as a vehicle for promoting the ideas held in the content of the lyrics.
Actually, quite scary.
Punk rock, repetetive guitar-riffs, oprørsk, dystert, hypnostisk
Would listen again. A few to add to playlist.
