Reviews (page 3 of 14)

A fantastic record and incredible band. They each have such a distinct voice on their instrument and in their writing. As a band the sum is greater than the parts and the sound is so unique to them. Also they have great attention to detail to make sure every song is very much it’s own sonic world. And rhythmically each song has a distinct groove that’s different from anything else. Stewart Copeland may be my number 1 favorite rock drummer. I love the feel, the voice, the tones, and especially the energy. He is has the power to make good songs great with his drums. And even make ok songs great with the drums. The musicianship is extremely high and the music has a wide variety of influences but it never gets in the way of the songwriting. It is cool to hear ambitious rock music played by people with some jazz fusion influences come out in a different way than Steely Dan. Synchronicity 1 is so manic 80’s rock Oh my god - sweet groove. cool out there sax solo stuff. Great bass tone. Mother- Andy summers is such a weirdo a 7/4 blues about an oedipus complex. I can see why sting wanted to go solo haha Mrs Gradenko - love Andy’s guitar solo Synchronicity 2 is a great pop song Every breath you take- such a classic King of pain-great song. cool harmony snuck in at end of verses. I love the drum entrance Wrapped around my finger- Cool vibe on this verse another great chorus. Cool bass motion on the third verse Tea on the Sahara- some more cool textures and tones in this one. Murder by numbers- awesome drum intro. kind of a flubby live type ending they probably planned on fading out.

I really enjoyed this not my usual kinda thing but still 5/5

I usually hate the police, but this album as a whole had a really good flow. Killer atmosphere.

Mistik bi albüm, vibe'ını beğendim. Baya bi güzel şarkı var. Çok calm çok profesyonel. Every Breath You Take bu albümdeymiş daha daha güzel. Bayılıyorum buna gerçekten ;_;

What a revelation and – for me – a different side of Police. I had mostly listened their Singles on cassette. This album is unexpectedly mystic and Jungian and intellectually wide ranging. The moods and sounds … I enjoyed big ideas like Spiritus Mundi – a universal energy or inspiration for ideas – like a collective unconscious or and or muse. I love the rhyming genius in the tracks. the way the lyrics stack meaning mixed with from: The lilting on “Wrapped around your fingers” its almost astral “Tea in the Sahara” feels new - yet saved playful and prophetic. I love the lyrics cryptic and poetic. Rounding up, rather than murdering by numbers

I mean, come on. Wore the tape out in junior high when it came out. Did I pre-order? I know this back to front and it never gets old. Just an amazing pop rock album of the time with incredible execution by master musicians. Plus, the hits, though I can't imagine a Millenial or Zoomer going for "Mother" (although it is an acquired taste). You had to be there, I guess. Hah hah.

I love Stewart Copeland on Synchronicity I and Murder by Numbers. One of the best drummers IMO

Love the police. King of pain, every breath.

I played this until my cassette tape broke, my favourite Police album. To me they're all awesome tracks - fast forwarding was too much bother in an Escort Mk2. Yeah yeah Every breath is a 'stalkers' song etc, it can be perceived in more than one way, which is why people had it played at their wedding. My favourite song on the album is Synchronicity II, I still remember the video being a cool helicopter shot over a scottish loch with crap dr who effects - cool at the time, but nothing you couldn't knock up with a drone, basic video editing and half an hour nowadays. Anyway, I love every song on this album - and Mother ties in first place nuttiest Police song with Sally (won't you be my girl) both great :D 10/10 for me

Knew The Police coming into this, but I was really unaware of most of their music. Though I liked the band, I never felt the pull to go and listen to an album in full, and man, can they put together an album. 'Synchronicity I' starts the album off on a really strong, high-energy note. The entire album goes from rocking, to mellow, back to rocking with a kind of ease that seems hard to achieve, but The Police managed to do it. It's cool, it's smooth, it's fun. What more is there to say? Besides, or course, that 'Mother' is pretty freaking weird.

This album honestly has no skips except for one track

Absolutely amazing album from legendary band.

Enn önnur platan sem ég kann hvert einasta hljóð á utanað. Mér finnst hún enn stórkostleg, eftir öll þessi ár. Sísta lagið er það sem öll þekkja. Ef 11 ára ég var með eitthvað á hreinu, þá var það hvaða tónlist mér þætti geggjuð!

Great songs!

I love the early Police

They quit at the height of their powers and left a nearly perfect discography behind them. I say NEARLY perfect, as each Police album has at least one cringey song. It's a weird part of their musical signature that I've come to accept, allowing them that indulgence to get their ya yas out, and not letting it interfere with my enjoyment of the rest of the album. On this album it is of course "Mother." Beyond that, "Synchronicity" is a worthy Swan Song for them, featuring some of their finest work. I can't say it's my personal favorite, but it's probably their most musically varied and refined album. I love their sound and think it is largely due to the space they give each other as a trio. You can hear each instrument so distinctly in a way that you don't get from most other bands. Never simply washes over me. Each player has such a unique playing style of their own, and they are all adding really interesting touches throughout, but not in a showboating or proggy way. It's all in service to the songs. I believe another strength of theirs is that, in so many ways, they are such different people; ages, backgrounds, influences, temperaments, etc. They were able to bring all that together so fluidly, especially here in their later work.

I've heard Don't stand so Close and Every Breath - and generally thought The Police were a light pop-ska-rock band - interesting but not exactly challenging. Little did I realise they are actually a pretty dynamic band - with a whole range of styles and topics. I really liked this album, i even like/disliked the weirdest song - Mother. I.e., i didn't really love the song, but i loved the ambition and change in style.

Yllätyin kuitenkin positiivisesti itselleni uusista kappaleista, jotka menevät omalla mittarillani helposti ohi ainakin Every Breath You Taken, jota on saanut aiemmin kuulla kyllästymiseen asti. Arvosanaksi mietin heti nelosta tai vitosta, mutta taidan kallistua jälkimmäiseen, koska levystä on vaikea keksiä mitään huonoa sanottavaa. Suosikkikappaleet: Synchronicity I, O My God, Synchronicity II, Murder By Numbers

One of my favorite albums of all time. I came to appreciate it long after it’s popularity. I love it more every time I listen to it.

God damn it’s a good album. I’d like to give it 9/10 but this system uses 5 stars. Every song seems perfectly placed and recorded. Mother is strange but interesting. II is catchy as hell as is the rest of this piece of art

My first Police album, and their fifth and final. I am familiar a couple of the singles (Every Breath, King Of Pain), I was pleasantly surprised with several others that I haven't heard before. I must commend them for carrying the energy throughout the entire album, while also changing styles on more than one occasion. Great vocals, groovy rhythm section. I'm not surprised this is their most successful LP, but I am curious as to why it was their last.

Amazong album and melodies

Tremendous album. Hated that this was the last one

Undeniable classic. The Police had many finest hours, fortunately, and this was absolutely one of them. I remember it being somewhat critically underrated at the time, despite several huge hit singles. As always, there are occasional lines of breathtakingly trite lyrics or even completely sophomoric moments - all Sting's fault; but he can be mostly absolved given his creative genius elsewhere on Police records. I always thought they were at their best in their most sonically exotic and mysterious passages, and that's evident on this record in spades. Excruciatingly close to being a masterpiece.

The Police were the first band I can remember that I loved, who broke up. At the time, it was shocking. Like, why wouldn't they just go on playing... forever? Listening to Synchronicity again today, I can see what I didn't see then. This album is the culmination of everything the band had been doing up to that point, and the completion of a circle. The songs are pretty terrific, perfectly arranged, some of the band's best, most complex and musically diverse work. There aren't really any notable flaws to this album, the strangeness of "Mother" notwithstanding (a song I actually like). What isn't on this album is the sense that band enjoyed making it. This is an album by three great artists who are ready to move on to other things, and from each other. I respect and enjoy this album enough to give it a 5. It's one of the great albums of that era. But they have other albums I love more. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Every Breath You Take, Wrapped Around Your Finger, King of Pain, Synchronicity I, Synchronicity II, O My God, Tea in the Sahara, Miss Gradenko, Walking in Your Footsteps, Murder by Numbers, Mother

An artist at the top of his poetic powers. Love each band members addition to the project.

One of the first albums I bought. A classic!

All gone wrong for the band by this album. Bland nonsense

Brilliant. 5/5 Standouts: Synchronicity I, Walking in your Footsteps, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Synchronicity II The rest of the songs are exceptional as well: Mother, Tea In the Sahara, Miss Gradenko and O My God. I had the LP of this album growing up so new to me is the bonus song: Murder by Numbers. But, I have to admit, after hearing it, it did sound familiar.

Mother still grates on me but Synchronicity remains my favorite Police album

Every breath you takeee

Thirteen year old me from 1983 would proudly announce that Side 2 is perfect, especially if you got it on cassette with "Murder By Numbers" as the last song. The two Synchronicity songs that bookend Side 1 are bangers. The issue lies with throwing a bone to Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland, especially on the dreadful "Mother" on which Summers actually sings lead. No wonder Sting wanted to go solo, there's no need for that shit. But Copeland and Summers brought out the best of Sting. Seven classics (eight if you include the aforementioned Murder By Numbers, which is a wonderful throwaway that proves Sting had a fully functional sense of humor). I eventually wore out that cassette from playing and rewinding Side 2 so many times, listening for hours on end. I went as long as I could, and considering Sting's notorious practice of tantric sex, that seems appropriate.

Love this album for start to finish. Bought it for my dad when I was a kid and managed to record it to tape before his birthday, but had to remember not to play it in front of him until after his birthday. Great tunes right the way through. Highly polished and well produced.

Tea in the Sahara and Murder by Numbers are so good and I have never heard them before. Mother is weird and disturbing, though...

All-time favorite

Excellent, varied, catchy

Love the police!

Candidate for the best Police album, and the only one I frequently come back to listen start to finish. This album doesn't feel like any other. It places you in this surreal futuristic world that feels like several 80s movies snippeted together with scissors and glue. The most remarkable feature that sets this album apart from others is how the first half (more like a third) is full of unusual picks, nothing to really sing and dance to, but then the second half has exactly that, all the hits. This is the opposite of how music is normally done in like every album. And usually, this is a fault, but I find it very interesting how well it works here. Usually you listen to an album like this, you start off with the hits you love, and then the last half or so is full of "whatever nobody cares," except for possibly the closer. I feel that this formula actually works well in the context of this album, and enhances its replayability. Maybe not for people who don't like this kind of music. But if you did, it does place greater emphasis on those beginning tracks that deserve it. The titular opener straps us into an F-Zero-esque high speed race, accompanied by the bleak colors on the cover. The second track feels like a jungle. It's so strange how the tracks on the first half don't scream out, giving proper attention to the unique production. Just hear how "O My God" phases in... very weird to me. It's funky but doesn't have insane dance hooks of the second half. And not to mention the avant-garde jazz solo that's a callback to their prior album, Ghost in the Machine, transitioning to everyone's favorite "Mother." I seem to be the only guy who likes it... it's like the tracks get more and more stranger until we reach this Eastern-style pinnacle of mental breakdowns before snapping into reality with "Miss Gradenko," prepping for the fun music that "Synchronicity II" starts with. "Synchronicity II" is one of my favorite Police songs. I love singing and dancing to it, but I never know the lyrics. Fantastic chorus and power transitions, wonderful work all around on the guitar, drums, and synths. You can tell with that solo that they've really learned a lot from the Ghost in the Machine, and I'm really glad you could still hear this song on classic hit radio (in the US at least). "Every Breath You Take" is that pop outlier that doesn't really fit in the rest of the album, kinda disrupts the flow, and is the #1 reason why I wouldn't claim this album is perfectly coherent, although it's pretty darn close. But then again, it's an amazing pop mellow pop song with a heartbreaking story about divorce. We return with the dance hits with "King of Pain." The synths are the star here, especially in 3-4 minute mark. I really like the muted guitar interludes (before it's louder solo), but there's also a nice beat and catchy chorus. "Wrapped Around Your Finger" has my favorite synths and Sting's vocals. Really smooth, utilizing motifs from the first half, building up to that chorus that reminds us why it's on the second half. It has a bit for everyone, hard to dislike. "Tear in the Sahara" is a personal favorite. At this point, people are probably tuning out. Again, great synths, original and really sets the setting rather than forcing its way in. "Murder by Numbers" is a fitting closer, feels like a jazz nightclub, although I like how louder it gets in the latter half. Few complains, but overall an outstanding album that I recommend to anyone. One of the pinnacle New Wave albums, and certainly their best effort.

Excellent songs, world influences on the rhythms and sounds, synchronicity II is one of the hallmark songs of the 80’s (and my favorite Police song), terrific musicianship top to bottom: guitar chords and sounds that were unorthodox but worked terrifically with the vocal melodies, drum parts that surprised me with their complexity, and of course terrific bass lines paired with the songwriting. All around great work, five star album from a five star band

Great. A few weird tracks, but fantastic.

Fantastic numbers, superbly executed

Amazing album from start to finish. Really takes me back to the summer before my senior year in high school, when you couldn't turn on the radio without hearing Every Breath You Take. The hit songs are great, but the songs I really love from this album are the less popular numbers, especially Walking in Your Footsteps and Tea in the Sahara. 5 stars.

This is a perfect album. Lots of variety but no throwaway tracks.

Amazing, one of my favorite

Where do I start? I still remember hunching over the record at the shop, wondering if I should spend all my money on it or not. I chose not to. [Several years later, I bought all The Police on CD.] I still think Synchronicity is the lesser of the better Police albums, with Reggatta de Blanc being significantly superior. But that doesn't mean Synchronicity is a bad album, not in any way; it is clearly the work of mature musicians delivering the goods while also experimenting, which is what stands it apart from the previous Police albums. It's also a story of 2 sides: side 1 is the more experimental affair (Mother stands out in everything, but the two Synchronicity songs as well as Walking in Your Footsteps also stand out for their social statement). Side 2, on the other hand/side, is where magic happens, with songs that are deeply personal and creative. Every Breath You Take was a moment in history, when the whole world listened to the same song for weeks on weeks; such phenomenon doesn't happen anymore, in a world where everyone carries their own personal radio station on them. And can you imagine a song such as Wrapped Around Your Finger charting as well as it did, with all the creativity (here's looking at you, Stewart Copeland) it's bursting with? For side 2, for the history it made, and for the maturity it displays, Synchronicity deserves the perfect score.

The non-Sting tracks are the weak ones, of course, but this is a classic.

Great listen, works together as an album with a huge hit in the middle.

Great album by a great band. "Synchronicity II" and "King of Pain" are high points, but the entire album is a classic. This and Ghost in the Machine are my favorite albums by them.

Great album. Happy the whole way through. 4.6. Well maybe not Mother.

While equal parts disturbing, catchy and hypnotizing- Synchronicity IS the best Police Album. I recently acquired it on vinyl, and when I heard it as a collection of songs I was blown away. I consider myself a casual police fan- I like their sound but I've never gone out of my way to listen to them. I can tell you now this is gonna change. 6/5 Awesome album. Will listen to on repeat for the next 7 months

Is it true that in 1983 Sting was busted for smuggling the Kentucky Waterfall into London? [shake magic 8-ball] ... Syncronicity has got to be their weakest album, but still ranks high as a solid album without any duds. Tea in the Sahara song is probably the only one that's a waste of time, it makes me think of the Ten Summoner's Tales release after the Police broke up. Listenable, but not something worth searching for. Sure, "Mother" is a strange song, but there's an odd pleasure to it. And it probably served Sting better to answer the phone and write "Mother" than reject the calls and listen to his brother and sister ask "why don't you answer the phone when mom calls...?" every time he sees them. The Police was a super-accessible band. There's a ton of radio on this album, Every Breath, Synchronicity II, Murder by Numbers, I think this whole album was played on the FM growing up. Even Miss. Gradenko, which is probably the best track, got airplay. Finally, some 80's without Saxophone and suckage. The pace of some of these like King of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger are sleepy, but this whole album makes me think of growing up on Top 40. So perhaps I'm the wrong person to review this but Synchronicity is like a gateway drug to the good stuff. Earlier Police stuff is less refined, less acceptable and a whole lot more fun.

So many memories in one album! One of the greats

One of best pop albums of the 80s. Synth pop, new wave, classic melodies, jazz vibes... not a single bad song. What a way to finish a career...

Brilliant

Very creative take on classic rock / new wave sounds, with some jazzy elements, some punk, some reggae sounds, etc. Andy's tone is always on point.

A reecoute 5*

Murder by numbers, king of pain, and of course, every breath you take are classics. Great album

Several great songs that I forgot about, a good reminder of how much I actually enjoy The Police.

Really surprised by the vitriol against Sting and The Police in general. Ok, so tantric sex may not be your thing or it might be your thing and you just think it probably shouldn't be brought up in polite company. Sting might be a pompous intellectual git but how does that relate to the music? So they were a very popular band at the time and the album sold a crap ton of records and your parents probably listened to them so it's your obligation to diss them, I get it. However to me a musically interesting album with some definite highlights. One massive massive hit that still gets copious airplay but other hits that I like better. Let's agree to just not mention "Mother." I have always enjoyed Stuart Copeland's drumming and this is a highlight on many tracks. I don't have any The Police songs in my play lists but I nearly gave this 5 just to spite the haters.

A band who is better than I remember every time I revisit them. Not as complete a statement for me as their previous albums, but the singles are upper echelon- some of the very best chart topping music of the eighties.

Good album with some classics, but also a few other great songs. Favourites: Every Breath You Take, Walking In Your Footsteps, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Synchroicity I and II

Police are such a great band with completely unique approach and sound. The drumming is especially superb. I was expecting to go for maximum here, but I haven't listened to them in a long time and coming back to this, it seems like a solid 4 stars, but it is lacking for 5 in some ways I feel.

Thoughts before listening: I feel like this is typically considered the Police's best album. It's also their most pop-oriented and radio friendly. For that reason I personally prefer some of their earlier, slightly rawer records, but this is definitely good. Review: Very good album with some of the band's biggest hits. Its a bit of a mixed bag though with the hits being pushed to the second half of the record. The first half has some weird, experimental stuff on it that doesn't quite click (I do however enjoy "Walking in Your Footsteps") while the second half is basically all iconic, classics of 80s new wave and pop rock. 4-stars

escutei metade rs

Did not expect to like this album this much ,really great drumming which seems to be the centre piece for most songs , the album gets better with multiple listens , really liked this one

6.18.26 everyone hating on 'mother' when that was one of the most interesting tracks on here. big into this one which i wasn't totally expecting. shout out my mom Favorite Song: Synchronicity I Rating: 4.5/5

Lowkey nice I guess

Good album cover. Good year. 1983 is *the* year. Flashdance, etc. Anyway. Okay why is this theatre. The Police - well no, Sting - will forever remind me of my dad and the Corolla and the English man in New York. I want that nostalgia. But this was fun! Sting must be a total freak. I want to rate higher just for the note on “aaaaches” - it has ALWAYS hit. Fuck. Why not.

Many consider "Synchronicity" to be the high point of The Police’s discography. However, I have a slightly different view and have always felt somewhat at odds with the album as a whole. Even compared to its predecessor, "Ghost in the Machine", the band had moved away from the post-punk, white reggae (Regatta de Blanc) new wave sound of their early albums, experimenting instead with synthesisers, sequencers and new forms. Driven by the egos and rivalry of three very self-assured alpha males, this experimentation escalated into hubris that culminated in "Synchronicity" and subsequently imploded. If you listen closely to the album, you realise just how much Sting, Summers and Copeland play against each other rather than with each other. They had nothing left to say to each other. Added to this is the crystal-clear yet cold production, which makes it difficult for me to connect with the album. While the album features some of the band’s best tracks (Synchronicity I & II, King of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger), it also contains some dreadful ones (Every Breath You Take, Miss Gradenko and Mother). Listening to the album from start to finish, it seems so cold, passionless and self-indulgent that you almost freeze to ice. In fact, 'Synchronicity' was probably the last good album this trio could have produced before things turned sour. It contains some of their best songs, as well as a lot of self-indulgence.

Man I want to give it a 4.5. it has so many amazing songs on it.

this is not just “the album with Every Breath You Take.” It’s more like a sleek 80s pop-rock record with a nervous breakdown hiding underneath. If the production sheen doesn’t put you off, there’s a lot of atmosphere, tension, and darkness to appreciate here.

Equal parts all over the place and deeply focused, this was Sting's vocal highpoint. Even the B-side, Murder By Numbers, is a win. The Police have always had it locked in.

Hard to dislike a The Police album. Soothing and smooth.

Synchronicity I - 5/5 Walking in Your Footsteps - 4/5 O My God - 3.5/5 Mother - 3/5 Miss Gradenko - 3.5/5 Synchronicity II - 5/5 Every Breath You Take - 5/5 King of Pain - 5/5 Wrapped Around Your Finger - 4/5 Tea in the Sahara - 4/5 If only this album skipped right from Synchronicity I to Synchronicity II and then it would be an instant 5 out of 5 stars. But the A side after Walking in Your Footsteps doesn't feel exactly right. Many people would point to Mother, as yes it doesn't exactly fit with the rest of the album but I wouldn't say it's awful. It's a fine song, but the two other songs that surround it are fine at best and drag it down a bit. The run to end the album was phenomenal though, from Synchronicity II onward it's nothing but bangers. A very high 4* from me, would be a 5* if they cut out the fluff from the A side. Overall: 4/5 Favorites: Synchronicity I & II, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain

Great album

The first five songs are mediocre and forgettable, with the only memorable song (“Mother”) being so for all the wrong reasons. I have to say I kind of found it funny and interesting, but it should have been a bonus track or “secret track” at the end of the album. It has no business being one of the first songs here. The rest of the album, starting with “Synchonicity II,” is absolutely incredible. So awesome it can almost make you forget the first half.

"Synchronicity II" to "Wrapped Around Your Finger" are perhaps the best 4 consecutive songs on an album.

I have always loved the Police. Synchronicity II was often played on car rides to school with my mom. They rock, and I'm glad to add a couple songs to my likes. King of Pain, Murder by Numbers were two I had over looked. Every Breath You Take is truly one of the best ever. Seeing hints of Sting's solo stuff, I like the general worldliness. Every song was a play except Mother... Great band.

Amazing

Surprisingly good. Takes more risks than I would've expected Fav tracks: O My God, King of Pain, Synchronicity II, Walking in Your Footsteps

Another great Police album.

Great album

There were some songs that could have been left off; otherwise, this is great.

Listening to this album really helped me understand "Every Breath You Take". Like, the obsessive stalker song makes sense on an album with tracks like "Murder by Numbers" (which I liked) and "Mother" (which I didn't). "King of Pain" is fantastic. I enjoyed the whole thing a lot.

Very nice, a lot of hits I knew.

Already listened to for the first time this year! initial review: Wow. I see why this album is so highly regarded. After being a bit of a police hater for my whole life, I always sorta liked “Every Breath You Take” in a guilty pleasure way. But after getting into an 80s kick these past few months and hearing “Wrapped around your finger” on TikTok, I decided to check it out. I was not disappointed. While the early tracks have a more traditional “police” sound that I expected from knowing most of their hits, which I’m not the biggest fan of. But they were good, that 80s feel I’ve been chasing. The second half is more melancholic, reminds me of late-night drives with my auntie. “King of Pain” is a song I have known my whole life, but never knew it was by the band. Overall, a great album and possibly my first favourite of the year.

3,6 Highlights: Synchronisity I, Every Breath You Take

Decent album overall, with the 4 track run from Synchronicity II to Wrapped around Your Finger really standing out.

love the police

Great album with some great tracks. I could easily skip Mother as well as some others.

O my god, tea in Sahara ובעיקר murder by numbers שאני עוד אשמע הרבה אלו שירים פנטסטיים וזאת להקה פנטסטית ומעניינת ומדהים כמה שהלהיט הכי גדול מהאלבום הזה בכלל לא מייצג אותו.

Aw shit, the police are here again. Everyone hide your drugs! Nah, I'm just kidding. Drugs are bad, mmkay? You know what isn't bad though? Synchronicity. This album's pretty great! This is my second album from the Police, and I'd say it's the better of the two. The band's technical prowess is as strong as ever on this final album of theirs, but there are just enough changes to the formula to make the album stand out. I like the experimentation... most of the time. Yeah, let's just get this out of the way. "Mother" isn't a very good song. It's annoying and it's strange. I don't despise it or anything, but I don't like it. There are, of course, good songs on the album though. Quite a few of them, in fact! "Synchronicity I" is a cool opener. I really love the energy of it. "Synchronicity II" is somehow even better! I like Sting's vocal performance on this one. "Every Breath You Take" is the album's most iconic song, and it's not hard to hear why. The melody is great and the progression is super cool. It's an amazing song, even if the lyrics are little creepy if you look into them. "King of Pain" is fun. I really like the guitar on that one. "Wrapped Around Your Finger" is pretty nice. But here's where we get into a big issue with this album. As you might have noticed, most of the songs I just praised are in the latter half of the album. What about the songs in the first half? Well, aside from the opener, the run of tracks 2-5 range from "that was pretty alright" to the aforementioned "Mother" which I already mentioned. Yeah, this album's second half is WAY better than the first half. The album takes a bit of time to really get good. Now, once it gets good, it's great, but it's not the most cohesive experience, you know? What I'm trying to get at is that Synchronicity is a flawed album. I can see why this album is as iconic as it is, and the singles are legendary for a reason, but listening to Synchronicity isn't an outstanding experience. It's great, don't get me wrong, but I can't in good conscious give this a 5. I can see why someone else would, but I can't do it myself. So, yeah. Synchronicity has some incredibly high highs and is a great album overall, but it's not without its iffy pacing and low points. It's still a must-listen though, obviously. High 4/5.

Easy to see why they were considered the best band in the world at one point

masters of their instruments, and this is an hell of an album. Synchronicity II is a monster song in every way a song can be.

An odd multiplatinum album, the first half is challenging and more rewarding, the second half is all the hits. A solid album by one of the great bands but it’s odd that this was the most popular… especially when you consider that the two biggest hits were about stalking and divorce.

Some classic tracks - especially Synchronicity II - but a few weird tracks knocks it off of a 5.

This is pretty great, but I never want to hear about Sting's mother ever again.

Sorry gang was busy

By name I only recognized one song on this album, but as I listened I knew more than half of them.

An amazing piece from it's time.

Quite uneven album (Mother and Miss Gradenko just shouldn’t have existed), but good things there are good.

The Police certainly weren't new at this point (I mean, this was their final studio album after all) and thus had pretty much eschewed their reggae-inspired sounds in favor of more pop later on in their career. This album as a whole is a pretty cohesive listen (well, minus 'Mother' I guess). It's incredible what was jam-packed into the second half of the album too, just monster hit after monster hit. Not too many complaints from me, hell of a way to go out for the group.

Even with a couple of bad songs (Mother??), the album has some really good stuff and holds strong. 8/10

Not a fan of Mother. Everything else was good. I don't remember where I've heard Synchronicity II before, but that was a fun throwback.

Crazy high energy and every track hits

My favorite album by the Police. Side A is a weird assemble of tracks book-ended by the brilliant Synchronicity, and side B is a constant barrage of great, great songs.

Do you know how mad I feel that I’m giving this 4 stars?? I’m doing it anyway!!

Enjoyable

I always avoided the police cause I thought sting looked and sounded like a bit of a wanker. Now I can confirm - he's a wanker who can write a catchy tune!

Synchronicity I - 8/10. Frantic, with complex, layered harmonies, and excellent musicianship. Walking in Your Footsteps - 7/10. Good rhythms, very good vocals. O My God - 7/10. Good, excellent saxophone. Mother - 6/10. Weird, but not bad. Miss Gradenko - 6/10. A bit repetitive. Still excellent musicianship, but less to my liking. Synchronicity II - 9/10. Incredible guitar riffs. Complex, layered musical lines, with slick vocals. A classic of mid-80s rock. Every Breath You Take - 9/10. Another classic of mid-80s rock. Not a note out of place. King of Pain - 10/10. This is one of those songs that I always hear the Weird Al lyrics in my head. It is my destiny to be the King of Suede. That said, this is pretty much perfect. Wrapped Around Your Finger - 9/10. Smooth, slick, and very much in keeping with the rest of the album. Tea in the Sahara - 8/10. Very good. Murder by Numbers - 9/10. This song always makes me think of the movie Copycat. The dissonance fits well with the theme of the song. Well constructed, well played, and smooth. Overall Rating - 4.00/5 (8.00/10). This album sounds like the mid-80s. It's outstanding, everything is slick, smooth, and well constructed. Sting's voice is very distinctive, and the guitar and rhythm work is all top class.

Ahhh. Actually love this album. Well… maybe not. Synchronicity I is a jarring intro. And it all feels too rushed from there. This isn’t the album I thought it was. Like the horns but they aren’t given room. Admittedly I have always loved Mother. British Pop icons having psychotherapy sessions for our listening pleasure can be quite amusing. And obviously Sting has psychological problems - the hits Every Breath and King of Pain are cases in point. But honestly, the second half of the album was truly beloved by my 8 year old self. Tea in the Sahara and Murder by Numbers were songs I knew! I knew the lyrics. Hard to deny that… 4 stars for old times sake. Boolean rating: yes, glad I heard Police as a child so I could think about them as an adult, before I die.

dinosaurs :) proud mother apologist king of pain is so FUCKING good sleeping in the backseat core

What’s definitely a good four star album. Mother really threw me off, some of the other songs were OK, but they as majority of the album is really really solid.

Hoe meer het album vordert, hoe beter

Lots of nostalgia for me for this album. Some big hits for sure, I had assumed it would get a 5, but after listening I'm ok with it getting a 4.

Could be 5 stars if Mother wasn’t in the middle of it

Another group that's a bit of a blind spot for me. They're good though, with a similar feeling to something like Tears For Fears. Not as many stand out songs but the overall quality and vibe is strong, shows a sense of polish.

The only album from The Police where the B-side is stronger than the A-side, and even the start of this one is pretty strong. I even like Mother which everyone seems to hate. However, the 2nd half is really where it's at, it features some of their best songs. I also think it's their best record instrumentally, as everything just comes together. The basslines, the grooves, the guitars. It's maybe not as energetic as some of their previous stuff but it makes up for it. It's easily their most elegant, stunning stuff. One thing that bother me a bit is that the sequencing of the album is a bit weird with all of the best songs stacked towards the end. But that's a minor issue, the album is a great addition to one of the most consistent discographies ever.

Synchronicity by The Police blends polished pop hits with darker, more experimental ideas. While songs like “Every Breath You Take” stand out for their clarity and impact, the album’s mix of styles can feel slightly uneven. Still, its ambition and strong highlights make it a compelling and mature record—well worth a listen.

I had forgotten how good this album is!!

Decent enough - last 4-5 really good

This one is teetering on being a 5. There’s just a few songs that kind of hold it back. Mother being by far the worst one

What is up with Mother? The rest is good to great. You can see why Stuart Copeland is so highly regarded.

The opening tracks are a slog, but the hit parade saves the day. Mother is an abomination.

Favoriet: mother, murder by numbers.

one of the great albums of my least favorite eras of music. Its cool to hear the guy from the Bee Movie talk about stalking me. I liked it 4/5

Great record, really enjoyed alot on here!

This was the second album I ever purchased. It opened my eyes (and ears) to lyrics that went beyond partying and being horny. How many people would use the term "synchronicity" if it weren't for this record? Most of these songs hold up all these years later. "Synchronicity II" hits home after you've spent some time commuting for a BS job. Some don't hold up as well ("Mother"). And then there's the expertly crafted ode to stalking ("Every Breath You Take").

Very good album, the sound is very good. Best songs: every breath you take, mother & wrapped around your finger

Also really liked this album! Miss Gradenko is pretty good. I'd revisit this album, solid 4/5.

I'm a fan of The Police (THE BAND ONLY), and this is an album I own and have heard many many times. I was ready to give it a 4 without listening to it when I decided to give it another spin, in the spirit of the project. I do still like it, but I'd honestly bump it down to a 3.5 if I could. The front half of the record is more disjointed than I remember. "Mother" is still one of the dumbest songs I've ever heard in my life. The album picks up from "Miss Gradenko" and doesn't relent after that. The singles still sound great and lively after all these years. I would have maybe put "Murder By Numbers" in the middle of the album, as it's not the strongest closer, but a good song nonetheless. I'm gonna stick with the rating I was ready to give it from the get-go, but I do probably think I prefer them when they were a little hungrier and scrappier earlier in their career.

Esse álbum me leva a algum lugar novo toda música. 8 de 10 EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE é um pedaço de escuridão num álbum que me levou para uma utopia de smurfs. 10 de 10 King of Pain é bem interessante. Achei legal, ouviria as que me fazem viajar.

Enjoyable and a complex piece of work. Artsy, with yet some single tracks that are now part of pop culture history (main stream).

This is really weird. And really fun. I like Sting’s musings about dinosaurs.

Better than I remember. And less played out.

* I cheered when I saw this album pop up on here (well, obviously). * My personal replays: Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take

What a band, what an album. Favorite track: Murder By Numbers

Very good, wasn't aware of how good their writing is

Uneven but the end of the album is strong

4 because I do want to listen to that record again. Weird stuff in there tho. 3,7 I'd say.

Favourite tracks: Synchronicity I & II, O My God, Mother, Tea In The Sahara Really good! I only heard the single off this album - "Every Step You Take" - but I loved how funky and energetic both "Synchronicity" tracks were, definetely the highlights of the album. "Mother" was an interesting look into their more experimental work and I enjoyed it too. There were a couple misses on the album (Walking In Your Footsteps, Miss Gradenko, King Of Pain) but all-in-all I thought it was a great rock LP. And for '83 too? Impeccable. 4/5

Better back end.

The first side of this is bizarre. The Synchronicity sings are pretty good, and Mother is much weirder than I imagined the Police ever got. Miss Gredenko is a bit Police by numbers, and the other two tracks are pretty awful light rock. Side two is all the hits. Obviously EBYT sucks a lot of the air out of the room, but the others are pretty good too. Overall, it makes it hard to rate, but it's hard to go past the fact that a bunch of these songs just aren't that good and this is definitely not an album I'd ever seek out for another listen

You know I wore this CD out in alfredo

Fuck the Police but I liked this album :-)

Its overall a good albums with some smashing hits like every breath you take. However, Mother brings it down.

What a weird album, in a good way. I feel like you rarely see an album backloaded with hits like this.

What can I say, it’s The Police. Lately I’ve been listening to them a lot, with slight preference to the blue album. This is a fine work, however a bit uneven, the 2nd part of the album is much better. Apart from obvious Every Breath You Take, my particular standouts would be Miss Grandenko, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger.

The Police might be an acquired taste I haven’t really sought out. Their biggest hits haven’t been enough to make me search for more and Sting’s voice has never been one of my favorites. I felt like I needed to give this one a couple of listens (and skip “Mother” the 2nd time — seriously what were they thinking including this?), and found I liked it better than I thought I would. The best part of Side 1 is easily the two parts of Synchronicity, with the 2nd probably being my favorite overall track. Side 2 is better, with Every Breath You Take being the obvious standout. King of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger were decent too. It’s not going to make me a fan and I feel like it’s overrated, but I did like it. There was just so much good stuff coming out in 1983 I don’t feel like this should have been as popular as it was.

These guys are fun

I knew this day would come. The day when I had to listen properly to the Police after never really liking them, despite thinking they are well regarded for a reason and I do rate some of their tracks. This was good, but it allowed me to finally realise what has been going on. They are fantastic songwriters and the tunes and production are high class, but for me the music has no soul. Arrrgh-wait, Synchronicity II is such a great song I am adding an extra star.

Very uneven, but the highs are so strong. Should've been an album of songs as good as "Every Breath You Take" and "King of Pain."

fun album, very light and listenable! definitely enjoyed this one a fair bit

I liked this album, but what the hell is with the track, "Mother." Absolutely abysmall track.

7.5/10

Good album, not their best.

Was unsure if this was going to be 3 stars but ended up going with 4 due to Synchronicity I/II, King of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger (Every Breath You Take is a given). The fast paced rock mixed with reggae sounds creates an interesting dynamic that grows on you the more you listen. Some of the other songs failed to grab me (Mother to name the biggest) but I think the song compositions are still good throughout.

A pretty great album that includes one if the worst songs I've ever heard in my life.

I knew I was gonna like it but I was surprised how much I loved it! I didn’t know the Police were so political (lol). Walking in their footsteps was my fave

Pollarille helppo nelse

Soitannollisestikin tiukkaa tavaraa. Näillä jarruilla men vissiin vähän pata jumiin toistensa kanssa tän rieskan jälkeen, joten ehkä siinon saatu puristettua viimoset mehut hetelmästä ennen kun hopeet pistettiin jakoon. Sillä irtoo sitten ihan pisteitäkin tässä levyraadissa.

Ein Stern Abzug für Mother lol

- Not a perfect record but what is effectively "side 2" is really tight. "Synchronicity II" is a banger and the record is hard to argue with from there. -

almost a 5

this was surprisingly good i had a great time

Another "tale of two halves" album for me - first few songs are decent to good, Mother is super weird (admire the audacity), but by the time the title track hits, the rest is near pop-rock perfection. King of Pain is my personal favorite Police song and the closing song is one I hadn't listened to a ton, but is beautiful. Not quite consistent enough to be a 5 in my book, but I love a good amount of this one.

a few classics, some noise, it's all good. don't have the heart to give it a 3 so i'll give it a 4

Fun and versatile

3.5⭐️/5 [03.06.2026] 03.11.2026

2026.03.03.

I’ll be watching you от группы под названием The Police звучит особенно угрожающе, почувствуйте себя льдом под ногами Стинга

My favorite police record because it has the least reggae :( I know I'm a bad person. Their most spacious and evocative arrangements yet mixed with some of their nerviest and hectic. Mother is an amazing song and people's hatred is better directed toward Walking in Your Footsteps

The Police certainly have a recognisable style. I like it, but I know others won’t. Mainly because of Sting. Another polarising individual I’ve seen on this list so far that people review instead of the music, which I’m guilty of to an extent to, is Morrisey. Who would you rather be stuck in a lift with? It’d be Sting for me. The singles do most of the heavy lifting on this relatively short album, but even then it’s still good.

Hadn't given this album a whole lot of time before even though I love their older stuff. Was very pleased to give it the deserved time.

Great album!

Never catch My atention completly. It has its biggest hits but it goes a bit experimental.

Album #73 The Police: Synchronicity As many of you may know from my world-famous Reggata De Blanc review (which has received a humbling one like), I am not the biggest fan of The Police. I do love most New Wave from that time, but something about their insistence on incorporating Reggae, as well as Sting’s lyrical subjects, never really resonated for me. Those issues that I held for Reggata De Blanc also hold true for Synchronicity, or at least the first half. The first half isn’t terrible, just a bit nothing and eye-rolly at times (much like their previous efforts). However, unlike their previous albums, Synchronicity doesn’t stay this way. After Andy Summers eclectic track “Mother”, which many have theorized he made specifically in defiance of Sting’s ever-growing hold over the band, the album becomes stellar. It’s almost like Mother serves as a complete shock to The Police’s system, something so far out from their usual sound that causes them to wake up and lock in. The first half of the album, Sting mumbles on about dinosaurs, but the second half is pure New Wave perfection. Nothing more needs to be said of Every Breath You Take, sure it’s overplayed, but it's still one of the most captivating songs of the '80s. Synchronicity II, King of Pain, and Wrapped Around Your Finger are also incredible tracks that keep up the pace. Though the last two aren’t quite on the same level, they are good enough to the point that, in my opinion, this is easily The Police’s best album, and also a highlight of the 80s. Best Tracks: Every Breath You Take, Synchronicity II, King of Pain Worst Track: Mother Score out of 10: 8

Ah, the album that spawned Every Breath you Take. It has 2.6 billion listens on YTM, which is insane. Was not expecting to hear the wind instruments in Walking in your Footsteps. Synchronicity II is fun. Also enjoyed King of Pain.

love this album. The tape was a Christmas present to me in 1983. i know every song by heart. you have the hits, "every breath", "wrapped around", "king of pain", and "synchronicity II" (check out Weird Al's version of "King of Pain", called "King of Suede" fantasic!)/ there's some good deep cuts like "Walking in your Footsteps" and the crazyness of "Mother". for me, not a bad song on the album. at this point, they all hated each other with a passion and imploded after their tour" never to release anything else again.

Not at all what I expected and much enjoyed

Favorites: Wrapped Around Your Finger, Synchronity I Least favorites: Mother, Miss Gradenko Rating (out of 10): 8.5/10

Hits were bangers but didn’t enjoy the deep cuts as much as I expected

Reallyyyyyy like this album. I've been a big fan of The Police for a while, more so their "Ghost in the Machine" album. I really like their sound. I forgot that "King of Pain" was on this album, which is a song I adore. "Mother" is a little weird, pretty much the only song I feel iffy about on the album. It simultaneously is hella annoying but I also like it? Every other song is peak and a joy to listen to.

Buen disco. Buen disco.

good one

A record with one of the weirdest first sides and one of the greatest second sides.

More of a fan of the earlier work of The Police, but this one is solid as well.

I always like when an album thats widely known for its biggest hit (Every Breath You Take) is very different from that hit. I think Synchronicity fits that. These guys are the only exception to ACAB

Need to listen to them more album based

did not expect to like it this much but like The Wall we have another great white album ruined by a song called Mother

Is it weird to say that I think that the Police don't get enough credit for being cool? Because they don't.

The first parts of this album are… something. Especially Mother. The album ends on an incredible run though!

Far and away The Police's best album, but that may also be because I'm not really a fan of Reggae (or faux-Reggae) and this is when the band leaves the genre behind completely. Here, they trade their previous sound for sophisticated and, at times, vaguely dark New Wave. "Every Breath You Take" of course, is the album's undying hit song, and has been famously misinterpreted countless times since. Sting began his highly successful solo career after this album, the seeds of which can already be heard here. And I'm not sure what happened to the other band members, although I'm a huge fan of Stewart Copeland's soundtrack work for the first few Spyro the Dragon games. Key tracks: Synchronicity I Every Breath You Take

Fun, funky. Very 80s. Some misses for sure, but as a whole still stands as an impressive and intriguing blend of tracks. Highlights: Every Breath, Synchronicity I, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Murder By Numbers, King of Pain

Woop-woop! That's the sound of da police!

Ну и не могу не отметить отдельно Every Breath You Take.

King Of Pain - Wrapped Around Your Finger.

Лучшая песня: Synchronicity I Худшая: Walking in Your Footsteps Ожидал "да да ду ду ду", получил местами неплохой прогрессив и хорошие мелодии.

не только лишь every breath you take, но и king of pain и wrapped around you finger. murder by numbers запомнился еще приятным.

King of Pain, Synchronicity I, Wrapped Around Your Finger.

Loved this-.bangers and cash

my knowledge of The Police is their mainstream hits and Synchronicity II thanks to Guitar Hero. so this whole album was a bit of a journey, it really captures the sound of the 80's, that echoing electric guitar, synth, electric drums, its a fun listen. Outside Mother, whatever that was, it felt like a prank left in the album to see if someone would catch it. Great entry otherwise!

Pretty good album! Mother was weird as fuck but Synchronicity II slaps! Shoutout to Guitar Hero 80’s for introducing me to that song.

This is the first album I've had on the list where I actually own the album in my vinyl collection. I bought the album when it first came out, so clearly I have a love of this album. I've been a huge fan of the Police for a long time and have listened to all of their stuff - including this album - extensively. This album was really a shift for the Police from their more reggae, fun style to a more serious and synthesizer heavy sound. It also catapulted them to being one of the biggest bands in the world at the time. Ironically, it was the beginning of the end, and Sting was already moving towards a solo career. You can definitely hear the musical direction shift from the early sound of the Police to the sound that Sting as a solo artist would have. One of my favorite albums and glad I got to listen to it again this morning!

Didn't like Walking in your Footsteps or Mother, but I really enjoyed most of the songs.

with ~990 albums left on the list, i'd be surprised if i've listened to another album more than _synchronicity_, an album i've had in some way since i was 10 years old (so for 43 years now). i doubt i can be too objective here, save for "mother". this album's 4/5 because of that song

Apart from that mad wedding song, I didnt really know the rest of this. Me likey.

Backloaded album with all the hits at the back of the bus. The first half is ok to bad with Mother being a just awful song that must be skipped. Definitely not as good as the other album that was banger after banger. Every Breath You Take is one of the biggest and creepiest songs of the 80s but the 80s is kind of creepy in general so I guess it works out. 7/10

Kind of a tale of two halves album for me. First half is pretty meh to awful ("Mother" is a goddamn disaster). And then arguably the most recognizable track this band ever produced brings things into focus, and it finishes strong.

It's an album of halves. One much better than the other.

I like the police (band)

It'a good album, fun to listen to. It does get a little boring at times.

Осд вайб, every breath you take

Takes me back to childhood….still holds up.

Kind of a mixed album. Some great songs here and some weirder experiments. Seems like the first half is more experimental and the second half is more pop/rock oriented. Second half is definitely better and saves the album. Notable tracks include Walking In Your Footsteps, Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Tea In The Sahara, Murder By Numbers.

Wildly mixed bag here. The four-song run from Synchronicity II through Wrapped Around Your Finger is up there in the list of "Best 4 song streaks on an album". Then there's "Mother" ... I'll never understand how that saw the light of day. The rest of the album is fine, if a bit underwhelming. It's another edge case album. I'd probably give it 3.5 stars if that were an option. As it is, based purely on the four hits, and Synchronicity I, I'll give it the .5 star bump to a 4.

4/5 - Hit songs. Mother was out of place

Possibly Sting’s best album.

Pretty good album. Lots of big hits. Their best IMO

Favorite Track: King Of Pain

This would be a 5 star album if not for Mother and the lyrics to Walking In Your Footsteps. Playlisted: O My God, Synchronicity II, King of Pain

Echt ganz cool

The best/most popular songs on this album are on the second half of Synchronicity. You do not see that often with an album, as most bands try to front load an album with their "best" songs. I have always felt that Sting was perhaps too controlling and his ego got in the way of The Police staying together. Then I heard "Mother" and decided that perhaps Sting had a point and he should have fought harder to get only his material on here. Mother ruins the flow of the album for me. I can't overstate how odd the sequencing on this album is to me. The front half of the album feels like the aftereffects of all the fighting and then the Police just hand the listener three great songs in a row, followed by more songs that probably were created in spite of each other. Walking in Your Footsteps seems to be an ode to dinosaurs, which is a topic few mainstream non-child-oriented artists are brave enough to tackle. I found the first album in the book to be devoid of quality material and despite my distaste for Mother, this album has really good material on it. I can see the influence of Captain Beefheart on that song and I am not a fan of Beefheart's work. I tend to focus too much on the negative, but of course I like the three hits on here and I think Murder by Numbers probably should have made it to the album. It's not a bad tune. I enjoyed this one and the other Police album can go away and this could be the only album included on the list. My favorite tracks are: Synchronicity Miss Gradenko Synchronicity II Every Breath You Take King of Pain Wrapped Around Your Finger Murder by Numbers

I was surprised by this album, knowing only the one song does not prepare you. It was way more zany and interesting than i expected

This record really stood the test of time. Absolute genius. They went commercial, and they avoided the synth 80s sound.

Not their best but at least 3 absolute bangers on here!

I liked this more than regatta de blanca or whatever their other album is called, the second half was especially good. Every breath you take is an iconic song.

I was a little unfamiliar with some of the deepest tracks, which are much weirder than one would think from the record's hits. Put this in a category with Bob Marley's Exodus, a weirder/vibier Side 1 and a parade of classics on Side 2. A mature and daring swan-song. Really really good!

Maybe my favorite album to come out of this era. Just really solid songwriting and impeccable production.

Deeper more interesting lyrical content than I was expecting. Really nice production. I can hear jazz influence. Very driving unconventional sort of 80s rock

Pretty good album. Obviously every breath you take is a great great song. I think that king of pain, wrapped around your finger and murder by numbers all deserve more love

First half is uneven but the second half is undeniable even if a little overrated. Much more polished than their older work (not a good thing) but some interesting musical stuff here. A light 4.

This is a great album. It's a little disjointed in places but there's a banger every 3-4th song. So it's hard to decide if this one should be a 3 or a 4. The other The Police album I heard in this list wasn't nearly as good as this one, so I may go 4. Tough call!

What an absolutely weird album. The Police are a singles band for me and of course I know Every Breath You Take but to have it mashed into all these other really interesting tracks... Wow. Good stuff.

O melhor álbum do Police, quase perfeito. "Mother" destoa do tom melódico do disco, que é seu ponto forte e "Walking In Your Footsteps", que não é uma faixa ruim, também está aquém da grande maioria de clássicos presentes.

The Police is the police

Funny enough I heard the king of Pain on the radio before listening to the album later in the day. Its the Police and so it tends to be quite good and even has probably the most popular song of the 20th century on it.

The police were very popular at this point and it was like anything they did was to #1. I like this album for its listenable quality but it is a little bit saccharine like. The songs are very good and subject matter is powerful but at the same time it is not something I listen to regularly. Their musician ship is top notch and that's a definite plus.

Most of this album is good, though I'm not sure I like it as much as it's reputation suggests that I should.

I had this on cassette when it came out. And loved it then. An incredible trio. Maybe not their best album but there's the Global mega hit in there. Still love synchronicity II, king of pain. And love the reprise of the big enough umbrella lyric. Some parts haven't stood the test of time... word song about his mother, cod african, something about dinosaurs. So it's not perfect but what an incredible group of musicians

Haven't heard this in a long time! ★★★★

Overall, a pretty good album with some questionable choices within. It's clear why this album is on the list, though. Personal Favorites: -O My God -Synchronicity II -King of Pain -Wrapped Around Your Finger -Murder by Numbers

I always expect the Police to sound cheesier than they do. The first half was great, second half was a step down but still fine. I’m on the side enjoying the weird Mother track. Rating: 4.3

It was good. I enjoy their hits for sure, they are the hits for a reason. When you get to deep dive into a band as big as the Police and listen it's fun. Mother is weird as shit and I was hear for it. See what I did there? The rest of the album is still good even though Mother does do the heavy lifting here. Sure Every Breath you take is good and known as the stalkers anthem but the album is better than just that song. This entire album is a good listen, from start to finish.

Great album!

Loved this album when it came out. It still holds up.

Nice 80s synth sound

Quite fun! Very creative

Recognized Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take and Wrapped Around You Finger. Very technical album. Less reggae style than others.

O My God. Listen to this album.

Some good highs and some interesting lows

”Every Breath You Take” did and will always do something to me. Also, honorable mention to ”Murder By Numbers”, sick track! Overall, the album was mediocre. If I could, I would give 3,5 stars.

I used to always think I preferred early Police material but I ended up really enjoying this one. Songwriting is strong and varied with good production. Instrumentation and vocals are excellent. The occasional bad lyric did give me pause but overall good. Still waiting on more diversity though, as we get yet another act with only cis white men performers (this would make 13/15 albums with only this demographic represented)

So many great songs on this record, a couple of weird ones for sure, but mostly Sting’s writing is really shining at this point. The Police are one of those bands where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. There is magic when these 3 guys make music together.

Wildly pretentious (thankyou Sting). A film of this being recorded would make Let It Be seem tame. They recorded their tracks in separate rooms "for social reasons". When it's good it's amazing, but there's also a lot of dross. And then there's "Mother", Andy Summers "Lets give Ringo a song" moment. And just to point out, Stewart Copeland goes hard on this.

Tough one. The first half is just boring, but there are three giant, career defining cuts in a row after that. Trademark for the era. Giving it high marks for those alone. The remaining filler can be easily skipped.

Great. Not their best overall album. But definitely some monster hits. 4.5

I had only heard Every Breath You Take so the overall sound of the album took me by surprise, it is a good album though. A song which I already liked sonically and as a song about someone who doesn't seem to realise they are becoming obsessive with who they think they are in love with. My favourites by the album are probably O My God and Murder By Number.

amazing wonderful gorgeous beautiful album

This was mastered really well. It was a joy to listen to while eating supper.

I love this album. Everything but mother on here was a banger 8.5/10

Hey, a record from The Police I really dig!

The mood picks up at Every Breath You Take

Best Song: King of Pain I never really considered myself much of a Police fan, but this was surprisingly good. The musicians in this band are really talented and, while Sting's voice requires some getting used to, the vocals are solid. 4/5.

I was never a Police guy but this record is pretty good. A few interesting left turns and a stacked back half.

Side 1: Off to a blazing start with Synchronicity I, featuring a fast beat, great metallic keyboard part, and Dorian-mode vocal harmonies that made this band so famous to begin with. (Of course, all of this is reflective of the "white reggae" that inspired the name of their sophomore album.) Walking In Your Footsteps takes a foreboding turn. Weird mix of Western, horror, and tropical island. O My God is another hard-to-describe track. Other than being fast, airy, and having a free-jazz-esque saxophone solo in the outro, there isn't much to comment on here. And the strangeness adventure continues with Mother, which is not a cover of the Pink Floyd song or the John Lennon song (if you're into that sort of thing). Instead, it's a bizarre 7/4 song with Sting absolutely wailing and cackling into the microphone for three minutes straight. Honestly... it's bad. Like, really bad. One of the few songs from the Police I didn't add to my "Liked" playlist. Miss Gradenko is a slight return to form, but it's really Synchronicity II where the Police start to bring home the bread. Especially with that bassline – dang. Fun guitar riffs in the verses, and the vocals are strong too. Though I could do without the doubling. Pre-chorus is really satisfying here too. Side 2: Of course, the stratospheric track here is Every Breath You Take, which I actually think is one of the most overrated songs of all time. But it's still great. That guitar is so simple, yet so pretty. The chords are simple as well but that's forgivable. They had to have at least one composition be a big single. King Of Pain is a big wobbly rhythm-wise, with the drums not exactly matching everything else, but it's catchy enough. Much softer than its name implies, with another tropical, almost Nintendo-esque guitar melody in the verse. (I'm not kidding.) The outro is pretty sick. Wrapped Around Your Finger is a standard well-rounded, slick, feel-good Police track with a very good chorus. As far as I can tell, it's mostly two chords – the same two as Dreams (Fleetwood Mac) – and it manages to make a darn cool song with them. Tea In The Sahara isn't that memorable apart from its extremely stripped-back feel and a tasteful bass part. The final track, Murder By Numbers, is an energetic send-off that features perhaps Sting's best vocal performance. Big fan of the drums dramatically affecting the textures, and the song's ending is solid too. 4/5 Key tracks: Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take, Murder By Numbers

Very good album ! I just didn’t really like mother, but my favorites are Synchronicity I, Every Breath and you take and wrapped around my finger !

Would listen to some songs again

Amazing album, especially considering that Sting and Stewart Copeland actually fought during the making of it. There's only one thing that can keep it from 5 stars, and that is... Mother. What the heck was that? It's so jarring, coming in the middle of an outstanding album, and so completely unlike any other Police song. If you take it out, the rating would probably be 6 stars out of 5. It doesn't totally ruin the album, but dangit Andy, you brought the rating down.

From the 80’s but not of the 80’s. Ages well and sounds great today. The 2 sides couldn’t be more different. I listened to side 2 a thousand times when this first came out. Very full and complete sound coming from 3 dudes. Sting’s voice is in peak form and Stewart Copeland is one of my fave drummers. Enough has been said about the outlier Mother. I like that they’re pushing boundaries and exploring. IMO Synchronicity II is the best song here. Full of attitude, energy, angst, and bite.

This one reminds me of the perfect Sunday. You know the ones.... It's you and the ones you love, exploring the world without a timeline, an agenda, or a need, in free flow. Things manifest in front of you with ease and grace. It's pure synchronicity.

This album caps a 6 year/5 album run that is a good as any I'm rock history - said with no hyperbole. Their box set Message in a Box which includes every song from every album has basically no skips...save one. I'm all for pushing boundaries as well as giving band members a greater share of royalties for including their lesser songs on an album. But what the hell is the reason for Mother. I didn't get it then. I don't get it now. I just don't get it. I know it's coming. I can feel it coming even as the raucous opener Synchronicity 1 fades. It's there even as the sublime beauty of walking in you footsteps envelopes. O My God is a bit of paint by numbers Police (a lesser Demolition Man but with 80s Sax) Still better than most comers. And then...it's here. 3m5s of shear cacophony. And not that good time. Just Mom. And the telephone. Ringing ringing. Ringing. And ringing. And ringing. And then a new day dawns. Miss Gradenko is a fine enough track but the real highlight is Synchronicity 2. Energy, musicianship all on full display. That sets that stage for one of the best sides in rock history. Not sure why that ended up as side two but...it did. A great album. A great way to go out.

I know most of the songs but always conflicted about Dont Stand So Close to Me

This album was always kind of meh for me growing up - radio played the hell out of Every Breath You Take and Wrapped Around Your Finger. With the passage of time and I suppose age and maturity, I found this album surprisingly enjoyable. In fact, I forgot how great a song Wrapped was - it has been on multiple repeat over the last couple of days. I never understood the Mother track - trash. But the second half soars. 4/5

Albums I didn't see coming, yeah, this is on the list

I love the police, maybe not their best album but still great. Never listened it in one sitting before, definitely makes it more fun! Favourite songs are Every Breath You Take, Synchronicity I and II. I really dig the overall vibes, but some songs, especially Mother feel a bit out of place.

Every Breath You Take is a legendary song. Good album. 7.1/10

Can't believe Sting put out bangers in the music industry before he became a wrestler.

Copeland can bang some frickin drums, dawg

Pretty good but not a masterpiece. Gets stronger in 2nd half
