Reviews (page 7 of 7)
Like the instruments not really the vocals. Don’t think this is really my genre but i respect it.
not for me
I'd rather grind my teeth on pavement than listen to Pavement. This guy can't sing.
2/5 Ugh. That was unpleasant. It made me feel uncomfortable and anxious. So dissonant and off-key. At first, I thought it was going to be like The Presidents of the United States, but it quickly got worse. Do Not Recommend.
It was fine.
Spent a lot of time with this record in my teens. It hasn’t aged very well to my ears. 2.49
Was not impressed by the lyrics and felt too screamo for me. Then it felt too slow as well
Not so much for me
Zürich is stained is interesting just for the title alone. Other than that the singing is drowned out and that's quite annoying, it's your typical 90s indie rock. I get it, the boys are sad and disillusioned. I keep just hearing Daisy and the Scout's "Sad Boys": You stand in the middle of the avenue just waiting; I can’t be the one to always push you back to pavement. Production 1/5 Fun 0.5/5 Nostalgia 2/5 Musicality 2/5 Singing 2/5
Just bad - songs aren't great and singing may be worse. 4/10.
I skipped over this band as a kid, nothing they played ever caught my attention. I loved Sonic Youth, Pixies, and Dinosaur Jr. but something about Pavement didn't blow my hair back. This album didn't change that fact.
This wasnt great. But it wasnt horrible.
Sounds like generic indie rock and therefore of limited interest to me
I’m sure someone likes this. The style and mood are something I should like, but there are no songs.
college rock
I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying, to get into this album. I want to say that the album had its moments but even on the second listen I just couldn’t connect with the album at all. The guy’s voice sounded like a bad impression of Lou Reed on the track “Here” until he started taking it up an octave. That didn’t help much though. I’m sure there’s a type of indie music lover whose favorite album I just insulted and I’m sorry for that so feel free to insult my favorite Rush album to feel better.
I used to like Pavement a lot more. Maybe I just don't care for this album as much as I thought?
Reiner Punkrock ist wirklich nicht meins.
Sounds like a bunch of people who knew nothing about music were forced to make an album together. Not completely hot garbage, but pretty damn close. 2/5
Not for me thanks
Some guy on tiktok said this was one of the top 5 albums of the 90s... Very very incorrect
I have never heard of this band before. While I can see some potential and the early formation of the early 90s sound, I am not a fan of this album much at all.
Alternates between meh and slightly unpleasant. Didn't find anything enjoyable here. Are there any "hits" from this? Nothing sounded familiar. Or like anything I'd ever want to hear again.
The vocals sounded like a high school garage band.
Best Song: No Life Singed Her. On the border of punk, provides some much needed energy to the album. Worst Song: In The Mouth A Desert. Sounds like a high school band whose members listen exclusively to Weezer. Overall: I have to assume that this was influential for later and greater bands, because nothing here seems particularly interesting to me. Just that plain, droning noisiness that takes few risks and accomplishes little. Songs to be angsty in the 90s to.
It’s an album
never heard this before. pretty classic punk sound - out of tune guitars and singer that is laid back and can't really sing or hold a note. i like it, but it isn't a GREAT album.
Look at the album cover. That is how this album sounds. A mess of sounds that make for unenjoyable listening.
Not my style, grunge.
mmm, molto emo/ragazzo indie
So my last album was EVOL by Sonic Youth, and now I've got Pavement, a band that I largely consider to just be an inferior, rural version of Sonic Youth. They're less tuneful, the production is worse, and the Velvet Underground pedigree is just that much more watered down. Pavement exist in a shaky grey area where they aren't heavy enough or poppy enough to appeal to to me one way or the other. It's all just a sloppy grey mess with no dynamics. I have no idea why this band is so highly regarded, nothing stands out to me.
It is indie rock. The album is just there as none of the music really moved the dial, but that's indie rock. It has a little bit of a grunge feeling to it too but that adds up given the 1992 release. I have no desire to listen to the album again.
A bit raw and unpolished for my taste. See where it could have a draw for many, just not for me. D
Alright, seemed like classic 90s rock but with a particularly off singer.
Nothing stuck
If me and my friends decided to become a novelty band that only wrote and performed songs that were meant to parody the absolute forgettable dreck that is Gen-X music in a mocking and dismissive manner, this is the album that we would write.
Ehhh... liked a couple of songs but this really didn't do anything for me at all.
nahh
I really wanted to like this. I always wanted to like Pavement. But I just don't hear the tunes. I liked Cut Your Hair, but everything else leaves me kinda 'meh'. I know many fans and critics really dug them, like they were the second coming of whatever, but I never heard it. They sounded like a 1000 shitty bands (and I mean that in a good way. I like a shitty band) that played at the Sandringham Hotel in the late 80s/early 90s. I just didn't get excited by them. Maybe you needed to see them live? I am grateful for the impetus to listen to this album all the way through (and I listened to it twice), but I cannot for the life of me remember a single thing I heard.
This is one of those bands I was never into and wonder why. Until I revisit them. Too noisy for me.
Nerve grating guitars, spotty rhythm, and sub-par vocals - what’s to like? Not much here. Giving it a two, because there were a few bass riffs I enjoyed.
i get what they were trying to do, but not my vibes
The first track is brilliant, then the rest have a bit too much madness and not QUITE enough method. I suspect the album would reveal secrets after a few listens, but I ain't got time for that.
Pavement was another new band for me, and this album did not connect with me at all. On the first listen, I really didn’t like anything…it kinda of grated on my nerves. But I always like to give a new-to-me album at least a couple of shots to reach me, so I tried again…this time with earbuds. The second listen was better…less grating. That meant another listen to figure out exactly where this album would rate. The third listen was worse than the first. All I could really hear for most of the album was noisy guitar and it wasn’t appealing to me at all. I was trying, and Pavement was really trying and trying and trying…if you get my drift…but my only response to that was, “You are very trying!”
Pretty uninteresting
It’s not my type of voice :(
Whew. Glad that's over. Instrumentals were good. Not fun on the voice....
Nope
Pre grunch chafon. todavía no acababa de cuajar.
Pretty forgettable for me
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Summer Babe - Winter Version, Trigger Cut/Wounded-Kite At :17, Zürich Is Stained, Loretta’s Scars Cutting Edge: In The Mouth A Desert Overall Notes: The album cover really nails how this sounds; there’s a simple beauty in a lot of these songs that is often completely overwhelmed by wanton chaos.
that was… rough look, I like being optimistic with music, but this was a damn hard able to enjoy i don’t think i hate it, that’s too strong, i just felt pretty bleh listening to most of the songs I liked the last minute of Summer Babe, reminded me a bit of Neutral Milk Hotel a tiny bit i guess? I don’t know, i really, really love Neutral Milk Hotel and it’s hard to compare Jeff Mangums incredible work with this album and the electric stuff in Fame Throwa sounded kinda cool, but christ i can’t stand the vocals like i don’t mind weird vocals, i love Bjork and Jack Stauber and Ian Curtis, i don’t have anything against unique vocals. but the damn singing on this album sounds like a flamboyant-emo starbucks employee reading his homemade poetry like he’s doing a limerick i’ll give it a 4/10, like at least it was listenable, but i would really love to never hear this album again
Pretty underwhelmed by this album. Sounds mostly like half-baked ideas that vaguely sound like Sonic Youth. From what I understand, this is an album that requires a few relistens to really enjoy. I don't think I will, though.
Not really my type of music2*
Not my style, kinda too grungy almost? FS: Zurich is Stained
boring and rubbish together
I really don’t care 1.7
This was probably my least favorite album so far. I have never been able to get into pavement.
I suppose this was a very influential album at the time, but I didn’t really like it.
I had to look through their singles to figure out where I had heard of the band before - Nickel Creek covered one of their songs. I don't know if I have heard any of this band's music before. I don't think I liked the album. Some okay tracks, and some I definitely didn't like.
Very indie lo-fi - still slightly disappointing
I do have a soft spot for Pavement, but this isn't great
Kerb Your Enthusiasm
2/5 nothing really stuck in my head
Nee.
2.5 - enjoyed Here
kinda meh. Svag sångare osv. basic grungigt
Not for me I think. Maybe give a second chance
This album could not make me listen to a lot of tracks totaly.
Antingen klickar det eller inte. Inte för mig.
I've never heard of pavement before. This album was a good indie rock album, but does it need to be on this list? Did this group usher in the generation of indie rock albums on the late 90s and early 2000s?
Below average alternative rock that fails to convince
Aika peruspunkkailua
Okay
This did not grab my attention. Like white noise.
I didn't mind this at first, but something about it became irritating by the end of it. Hard to pin down the exact issue but something about this style of music was grating after a handful of songs. What started as an easy listen on the afternoon commute became a bit of a struggle by the end. I feel like this early 90's style of lethargic indie rock just doesn't hold up for me as I feel like other albums in this genre have trended the same way for me. Maybe it's the lack of bass or the de-tuning that makes this music come off as dull or off-putting? I'd heard of Pavement before but wasn't familiar with anything from Slanted and Enchanted. I get what they were going for trying to loop in some simple lyrics and basic riffs to hook the listener but it didn't work for me. There must have been a time in the 90's where this was endearing but I didn't get any personal connection with anything on this album during this listen. 1.48 stars
This album oscillates between “slice of white bread” and “this is the most annoying thing I’ve ever heard”. It’s a good thing the mixing is shit because if I had to hear the singer say “AND IM TRYING IM TRYIN IM TRYIN” any louder I would’ve driven my car off of an overpass to make it stop. Seriously why is that a song? Who wants to listen to that? Every single person in this band sounds like they’re intermediate level at what they do. Was it really this easy to be in an alt band in the 90’s? Every time I see alternative 90’s come up I know I’m in for some lame ass bullshit. I was a kid in the 90’s and it turns out I was right all along for never liking the alt music of the time. This list oftentimes feels like it should just be named “a list of 1,001 albums” because I absolutely did not need to listen to this.
Found Pavement through their hits from Crooked Rain. Wasn't a huge fan, and this is even less polished /good. Sounds like a poorer version of the Pixies.
#410 / 1089 Heard before? ❌ Revisit? ❌ My review for their previously reviewed followup album still stands here: "They're too awkward, sounds like sad and shy Pixies, who don't care to learn their instruments." Not my kind of music, at all. Few tracks are mostly decent, but then they go and do the thing and it sounds very farking awkward again. Plain 1/5
Maybe it's just me, but I don't get it. There were already a lot of annoying brits on this list. Did you really feel the urge to include Pavement as well? Like, they are not that good. I don't like it at all.
Vocals kind of suck. Like Lou Reed-esque sort of suck. An even poorer man's version of The Velvet Underground, and that is saying something. I remember this coming out in 1992 and it sucked then, as well. Not a good rock album. Among the longest 39 minutes I ever experienced.
Not worth revisiting
Starts of ok, Summer Babe and Trigger Cut are all right. Then the rest of the album just dives. Zurich Is Stained and Here are decent, but nothing else is. Best song: Summer Babe
I remember not liking Pavement because the vocals really fucking annoyed me. I was hoping I'd softened with age and my previous judgement was too harsh. It wasn't.
Musically simple and uninteresting to me.
Not for me. 1/5
My wife walked by as I was listening to this and said "What is that? It's awful. It's really bad". I feel like this is lesser than the sum of its parts. Ill-concieved. Out on Pavement.
Didn’t stand out
nah
I don’t know why Pavement was on this list once, let alone twice. Whatever-ness is right.
What is this doing on a list of only 1001 albums, who is doing this list, also you can’t give less than one star so this album gets way more than it deserves
1. babe - 2 2. cut - 1 3. her - 1 4. mouth - 2 5. zale - 1 6. ztained - 1 7. uuriztz - 0 8. zcarz - 1 9. here - 2 10. ztatez - 1 11. perfume - 2 12. fame - 1 13. jackalz - 2 14. zinger - 1
tremenda p*r*nga
This is just lame, bad indie music. But not worth being a hipster and saying "yeah, but this came out first."
This record's really bland, or could it be too cool for me?
Is this a joke. A must listen?
Ugh! Most overrated band of the 90’s. There is nothing in this music that draws me in. Pretentious AF lo-fi slacking. This is music for greasy-haired white guys who haven’t moved out of their Mom’s basement at age 46 and don’t believe in cleaning their asses with soap in the shower because doing that is “gay”. Stephen Malkmus also has such a punchable face. He gives off an eternal “I’m better than you” vibe. This has nothing to do with the noise rock genre. They’re comparable to Sonic Youth and I respect the hell out of that band. No. Pavement simply sucks.
Bad
Paso.
Pixies but worse, straight bullshit in my ears
I do not like this, just sounds like noise to me
This album felt lifeless, like most indie rock. Awful monotonous vocals. Seemed to drag on longer than the 39 minutes it actually is.
Nope
This album convinced me that I don't like Indie rock. Noise and more noise.
I'm not quite sure why this album is on this list; it's pretty 'meh' in my opinion. Nothing particularly stood out, and nothing seemed groundbreaking, innovative, or new. Maybe I'm missing something, but it's an album that just seemed generic.
Dind't enjoy 1 second. Glad it's over.
Yeah…..just no. I don’t see how this is a greatest album on any list. It’s just noise
No, it's not for me. Just some... rock that's not even satisfying in a punky way.
i never understood this band
It was just noise. I went back and listened again to see if I'd forgotten something. Impressive in a way that it left no mark
I tried
If you like chewing gravel, you'll love Pavement
Another Indie Rock / Lo-Fi / Noise Pop from an American band that I've never heard of, and based on the number of plays listed by Spotify, not many other people have heard of them either. Truly depressing album. For me, the best tracks on the album were "Conduit for Sale!" and "Two States", (the latter reminded me of Blur), but that's not really saying much.
Sonic garbage. I remember the feel of this era, but there were bands that could feel anti-vanity and anti-establishment and still be melodic. This feels like they’re making fun of music, not evolving it
Gross
Alternative rock. Not great. It was irritating and hurt my ears.
Not for me
Interesting album. Had similarities to some early grunge and pop-rock.
KAIKKI näkee ja lukee nämä mitä hemmettiä edes sanoa koska pelottaa mitä seurauksia mahdollisesti tulee :c silmät apposen auki tärisee onkaloissaan edestakaisin pelosta. kauhusta. zurich is stained and is not my afult.. real shit ... in the mouth of dessert
Ugh. No.
The singer sounds bored and out of tune lol. Not really memorable.
i wish this site gave me the ability to rate things zero.
Yeah… this ain’t it chief. At least not for me. Why does punk music have such an affiliation with shitty recordings? I don’t understand the appeal of purposefully sounding bad.
Really struggled with this. I feel like it lurches clumsily between sounding like whining emo angst and sounding to cool to care. I guess I can't get any realistic sincerity from it. The sounds aren't pretty. They're also not landing for me as low-fi in an effective stylised way that I can hear working. I know that many love them so I guess I'm wrong.
1. Summer Babe (Winter Version) - 6 Guitars are nice but the lyrics are just random. It's just a bang average song. Nothing phenomenal but nothing horrible. 2. Trigger Cut/Wounded-Kite At :17 - 4 Awful sounding vocals with lyrics that make absolutely no sense and are monotonously repetitive in the choruses. There's glimpses of niceties in the track but not enough to warrant a second play of it. 3. No Life Singed Her - 0 If I never hear this song again in my life, I'll be happy. 4. In The Mouth A Desert - 2 Lyrically this track is awful. Sound is okay but not anything groundbreaking. If budget Nirvana existed, this song would an example of such. 5. Conduit For Sale! - 0 Horrendous opening into a very unpleasant verse. The chorus is literally just "I'm trying" being yelled over and over again, which increases in octave as the song progresses. I'm trying to like this album too, but it's just not happening. 6. Zurich Is Stained - 8 Much better sound, much better lyrics. Significant improvement but the slower tempo suggests this will just be a reprieve before going back into the previous sounds of the album. Still, for what it's worth this track is nice. 7. Chelsea's Little Wrists - 1 This song is all bogged down by the need to be something different. Sound in it is strained but lyrically it's an abomination especially the ending. 8. Loretta's Scars - 3 Instrumentally this is a lot better than previous tracks but lyrically it still lacks anything and everything that would make this track enjoyable. Sick guitar solo at the end though. 9. Here - 2 A very bad song. Much slower tempo on this track as well but unlike Zurich Is Stained, it's lyrically extremely poor in quality. 10. Two States - 1 Guitar solo at the end of the opening verse is the only redeeming thing about this song. Lyrically it's devoid of any character. 11. Perfume-V - 5 Lyrics are a bit repetitive but it's a much better song overall. Very enjoyable to sing a long to. Light enough to be able to enjoy it and move on. 12. Fame Throwa - 1 Another nonsensical track. Instrumentally it's absolutely all over the place as well. Noise for three minutes before the next track. 13. Jackals, False Grails: The Lonesome Era - 5 Lyrically it's way too repetitive and simple, repeating only one line of lyrics constantly. Having said that, the track is mainly instrumental in nature and the opening is very strong. The middle part of the track which sees more instruments introduced into it becomes a bit too much sound but overall it's not a bad track. Ending is also too abrupt. 14. Our Singer - 2 The song is just too random despite a great opening building into it. Also ends way too abruptly. This is the track that would basically decide whether or not you'll like Pavement. If you listen to this and enjoy it, you'll enjoy the album. If you don't, skip the album. You will not miss out on anything. Average Rating: 2.86 Adjusted to a 5-Point Scale: 1.43 Rounded Down: 1 Star
Why??????
Some cool guitar tones but this really isn't my vibe
The instrumentation is wonderful. But the guys singing and voice just make it literally unlistenable
mellow. phineas&ferb. wypipo.
The off-key singing is very not my thing. Unbearable. Liked the riff in 'In the Mouth A Desert' but then gave up.
This sounds like trash. I can’t even pay attention to lyrics.
I think they need some autotune or smth :/
HATE his voice
Every sung note is wrong. The sound is Cage the Elephant and Korn... ...if they were damaged by tone deaf inducing hand-grenades. I LOATHE this shit. FUCK YOU
The worst garage band to ever do it. I'm not sure this can legally be classified as music actually.
Thoroughly boring and unengaging, only on my third listen was I able to listen to this back-to-back. It's albums like this that are the low points of this project. Reading the Wikipedia page for this made me think I was schizophrenic, there is certainly no way that this album deserves this much praise unless the lead singer/band manager has blackmail material on journalists.
Furchtbar! Mog i net!
Not bad background music. Fairly good beat. Nothing on the album caught my ear, as the vocals were lacking.
Very angry.
Inget vidare. 2/10
listening w/o headphones summer babe: too noisy? distorted? nothing special starting to think i don't vibe w this band trigger cut: also doesn't stick maybe punk rock isn't my thing wait this album is critically acclaimed .. i'll put on my headphones then try one more song i guess i'm more of a melody person perfume-V interesting "of lime/no church" panning (i think it's called that) his voice sounds off-key to me overall not my style of music
#69 Nah. Did not like the vocals or really anything.
As boring as it can get. That is alternative rock? Yes, that was it. The label for mediocre artists with mediocre material ( badly performed on … did they use equipment?)
Not my thing
Vocalist is in the wrong key and sounds like he's falling asleep. Production is incredibly cheesy - like what a 14 year-old thinks rock should sound like. Drummer is just drumming random time signatures. Low-effort nonsense.
Wow, I hate this!
Doesn’t do anything for me.
My first smashing pumpkins, not for me
Tomato
Sucks
Not really into this. It bores me a bit. It’s a bit of a drag. Some good sounds but not too keen
Yikes! I just felt totally unprepared for this album and artist. Nothing about it really connected with me which is hard to admit as I like to try to appreciate indie artists. Nothing else to say...
This was shit
44. review erittäin kiltti meikäpoika... pamautus..
Schrott.
I'm struggling to make it through this abomination. I can't believe it made it onto the list.
Sorry this is bloody awful, Lou Reed meets the sex pistols with none of the charm, originality or edge either of those two displayed.
DIZASTRU U STONAZZJONI. 0/5
Im not even finished with the album but it's a 1. The lyrics are uninspired. The vocialist is boring. It sounds he's reading an essay he doesn't care about.
I do not "need" to hear this before I die. It sounds exactly the same as every 90s rock album, except this time the only difference is that they try to incorporate shoegaze into their sound, and they didn't even pull it off. I'm here to try and find albums that make me think, and that change me as a person. I and my music taste are exactly the same before and after having listened to this. When the songs aren't being super repetitive they are just incoherent noise, and when they aren't incoherent noise the vocals are just annoying.
p678. 1992. 1 star. Average garage band with no tunes. Why is this even on the list?
Everything about this album was terrible. I don’t know who made this list of the albums, but this is awful. Objectively, no redeeming qualities.
This album is what happens when a parent gives a kid a guitar and a microphone and continues to tell them how good they are for years on end. Dude has no voice.
No thanks. Not my jam.
not for mee
Before listening: I've never listened to Pavement, but I've listened to Blur's Pavement inspired songs. So they've got like a lo fi sound right? A bit more indie slash grunge? My curiosity has been piqued. After listening: Pavement, to me, sound like the unholy love child of Weezer and The Smashing Pumpkins. They sound very much of their time, which is early 90s alternative, but I just don't find them interesting at all. BUT, and that's a giant Serena Williams type but, context is everything. It doesn't sound interesting to me now, but this was new and exciting back then, amid all the hair metal and thrash that was going on. And for that, they get a star, giving this album a grand total of 1.
Didn't enjoy it.
Whoever produced this should be charged for crimes against humanity. Letting these clowns make music is robbing the world of ditch diggers. Jeez this horrible
Ehh
only made it a few songs in but not for me.
Meh, might have been good in '92, but does not seem to have aged well🤷♂️
Yuck
I can't think of a way this album could be more annoying. Well, unless they made a punk rock version. 1/5
Not my thing, guitar played with a boxing glove on the right hand. Mediocre lyrics forced out in punkish rage.
Not a fan of this.
The lead singer seems to be too tired to do his job. The music sounds like quintessential 90s alt rock. Uninspired, under-produced. Potential is there for the music, but the vocals... Nope.
A little harsh sounding but more tolerable than some
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Really didn’t enjoy.
Boring and naff. Norfring. Boffing. Barff. I'd rather 127 hours myself than listen again.
So, not sure how this made the list. Really hard to pay attention to this one.
NÃO.
I felt like I was being punked. I can appreciate this was the start to Indie Rock but nothing was memorable and I just don’t like this album.
This was not for me.
One of the band must have wrote the wiki review.... inspirational....yes...to never listen to another Pavement album. Garbage !
Shit and Excrement by Pavement
crisp packets, chicken bones and dogshit
Unbearably dull
“Sounds like they bang spatulas on things”. Yup. A lot of interesting sounds that I’ve definitely heard in later songs but good god I couldn’t finish this album soon enough.
Didn't give it a full listen. Skipped a lot of tracks as the guys voice annoyed me. Not for me.
Meh. Longest 39 minutes.
Singer is terrible, nothing exciting.
Yet another in the wide gamut of unremarkable albums served to me here.
Confused
Some of the guitar riffs were awesome. I liked the beat/tempo of most of the songs. The vocals and lyrics weren't noteworthy in any way.
wow, i just got a flashback to how dreary these were the first time around 😂
I'm glad it was only 39 minutes of junk
Too discordant for me
The whole album sounds like it was recorded with an Elmo microphone.
Made in 1992 and sounds like 1992 - the kind of music someone who wishes they were in a band would like. Good drummer. Alternative indie cool boy music .... I am sure the smart lyrics would make a guy smile. But you missed your window with me and there is nothing that speaks to me... I was probably into Cake. But this feels garage noisy distortion. No joy or melody for me.... Music for a Sydney SoCal 90's Kegger?
Life's too short. A weird hybrid of Jesus and the Mary Chain and The Cure. Seriously, out of all of the gazzilions of pop records released since the 1940's, I needed to listen to this before I cark it?
Woeful, just woeful. Apparently a couple of well known critics thought they were the best band of the 1990s. WTF??? I had to skip through most of these tracks, they were so bad.
Not for me
Not very good at all very emo and bad. Also can’t even hear any lyrics over the instrumental. Not as bad as shitty nehna cherry or whatever her dumb shit name is
Urgh. This was painful. The music was poor to average and the singing was awful. Not a fan. And initially I had high hopes...
Melvins, Car Seat Headrest, Yo La Tengo, The Shins are just some of the slacker-rock/stoner-rock bands that deserve a spot on the list over this shitty band, with their allergic to melody singer. Instead Pavement gets TWO FUCKING albums? Another lazy entry from the editors.
This shit was straight ass and if I could give it less than one I would I got some feelings toward pavement. Those feelings are their shit is ass

Not my thing at all
not our fave, here wasn’t terrible…
Nope. Not for me. This is neither one thing or the other (and not in a good way). It tries to ROCK but fails on account of being too wet and winey. It's too distorted and fuzzy to be a pleasant indie listen. It doesn't seem innovative or creative. I also hate the vocal. I genuinely can't see the point of this or any circumstance where someone would want to listen to this over a much better alternative. It annoyed me. Rating: 1.5/5 Playlist track: Here Date listened: 18/08/22
in theory, this is a lot of what i like. i.. just don't like it. any of it. gonna have to disagree with sh; this is not a "perfect record"
Question: What do you get when the singer for the Violent Femmes tries to sound like Beck but instead ends up doing a piss-poor job of sounding like Lou Reed instead? Answer: This crap.
Boring droning drivel. Are bad vibrations, going through the air because of rubbish music, the reason for all the shitty things that happen in the world? E.g. every time this album gets played someone gets closer to inventing an even more evil pesticide or invents another stupid product that we don't need. Someone should correlate world events to when albums get released :-(
Shite
Not a fan
Well ... the book says this album sounds "raw". Actually, the sound quality may work as a demo, but not for a finished product. At all. The same is true for the singing, production and song selection. How this made the list is beyond me. 1/5
Ech, no. Not feeling it. Sorry. Can't. There are three listenable tracks on the album, but that doesn't overcome how **unpleasant** it was to listen to the rest. It's okay, I've listened to 125 albums so far and I'd rather listen to at least 124 of them before this one again. It's clearly in the bottom quintile. I accept that there are good reasons this album is here, and know that there are loving fans of it, but they're not my reasons and I am not one of those fans. Now if I could just get a hold of Ferrante & Teicher's Keyboard Kapers...
I literally tried to block this album from my mind it was terrible the singing was awful and the music was just so bland there were no redeeming qualities
Man. I do not ever get the appeal of this. When you sing like Lou Reed you're on borrowed time in my ears. Slacker rock? Is that how to define this? I don't know...at the risk (that I don't care about) of maybe sounding like I'm gatekeeping, at times it sounds like this band isn't even trying. Hence... slacker? I'm not asking for complexity, and in fact some of these songs do have that. But I do have some sort of baseline of composition and this is a goddamn mess. The first song is just flat out dreadful and although it gets a little less-bad, that's the best I can give. 2/10 1 star. I'll never listen to this again.
I find Pavement to be very grating. The production feels shot in places, The instrumentation is much louder than the Vocals, and I guess i struggle to hear his voice? not that I really want to any tbh. But I dislike it.
Not my cup of tea that
Rather hit my head against the pavement
Not for me.
not to my taste really
Terrible stuff... woeful vocalist, bland songs, and production which sounds it was recorded on a tape recorder.
Ten seconds in … gee what decade did this come from? I’m trying I’m trying I’m trying not to just skip tracks This is really where a ten star system is needed. They aren’t as bad as other 1 stars but I feel worse than 2 stars. But I’m trending down on this one.
Wtf
Not enjoyable.
