Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Like the song from Always Sunny but the rest is nonsense for me

Had to skip the first song. Was not good and dragged on for too long. Then got bamboozled with Genius of Love. Recognized the melody from Mariah Carey. So far, not so great with this album. Skipping a few more songs. Can already tell I'm probably not gonna finish this one. DNF - 1/5

Wordy Rappinghood Genius of Love

not good at all.

Tom Tom Was??

1 not my style

Best: "Under the Boardwalk" Worst: "Lorelei"

wtf is Tom Tom Club? Wordy Rappinghood, what is going on. What is going on. A lot of vaguely spiritual chanting and tribal percussion and woodwinds. It's like some tinker hippies got into a recording studio and started playing with noise toys. It ain't bad on As Above, So Below, actually. It's somewhere between Kidzbop and experimental spiritpop for Sedona crystal merchants. Maybe this is what they play in the family camp at Lightning in a Bottle. On, On, On, On. The gypsies are coming. It's almost a threat? To the owner of the recording studio? And then some more simple synth beats and inscrutible lyrics that I suspect are cryptologically quite sinister. I don't know man.

Meh. Lyrics were pretty elementary.

It was assault on the ears. Rap for the under 5's. Bloody awful.

Club music sucks donkey farts. 1

Wow was this a long weird drag!

REALLY could not be less of my thing

It's probably very clever and innovative, but it got irritating after about 2 mins

This is odd. Oh my, I didn’t expect the best to a Mariah Carrey song to just show up. This album isn’t for me, but it has its moments.

This album is a torture device. Maximum cringe. I need to lie down.

I enjoyed « Wordy Rappinghood », it’s funny and playful and doesn’t take itself seriously (fortunately, because this is some Benny B level of rapping). Lorelei is not too bad either, it has at least some originality. But I definitely could have died without listening to the rest of this overly long, dull and repetitive album. It’s the kind of experiment that was probably interesting in the early 80s, but sounds totally irrelevant to me today. A single funky bass line, a couple of coconut drums and silly lyrics are not enough to make a compelling album. « Marchez marchez les hippopotames... »... sorry, just... no. It’s the kind of music you’d expect to hear at 04:00 in the morning at a cheap holiday resort party, after everyone has left and the shirtless old DJ is trying to hit on your drunk mom. I cringed for most of the album after the first track.

Looking at the cover art and track titles, my immediate feeling is that I'm going to hate this. "Wordy Rappinghood"? Well, I actually enjoyed Wordy Rappinghood, the opening track, but I did get steadily more irate as the album went on. Booming and Zooming was basically intolerable, with the fake radio chatter and every element of the backingmusic extremely annoying. The songs are much too long, most could be cut in half, and as I am listening to the deluxe version, I am skipping the remixes and alternative cuts which make up the back half of each disc, and if I hadn't committed to listening to the whole of every album on this list, I would be skipping almost all these tracks after about a minute each. Thinking back on this album, my overwhelming impression is of extreme irritation verging on actual anger. Hated it.

It’s clearly inspired and ahead of its time for 1981 (Wordy rappinghood is surprising with its humorous rapping at a time when rapping was far to be trendy), but it’s still a string of long, repetitive tracks. Kinda boring.

It's the same song for 2 hours. No thanks.

not a fan didn’t really dig early eighties alt punk rock

"Wordy Rappinghood" may be one of the most annoying songs ever created, and that's saying a lot. "Genius of Love", with it's catchy hook, is really the only redeemable track on this album - and even on that, the vocals are questionable at best. The rest of the album ranges from just weird to awful.

What is this. Why am I supposed to be impressed by this? It was just weird and annoying and the songs lasted waaaaay too long. The only reason this is on the list is cause it’s two of the members of Talking Heads. Honestly I’m so annoyed by this that I’m giving it a 1.

Track1: Dumb garbage from the 80s Track2: What Mariah Carey's Fantasy is sampled from Track3: Garbage Rhythms Track4: Pointless Track5: They raided a high school percussion closet Track6: Ignorable background music Dumb in the way that Matt & Kim is dumb, there's not much depth, its a bunch of noise. Sometimes its OK but I'd never recommend this to anyone. Not my deal, I don't need to keep going

This was total garbage. I didn’t need to listen to this before I died. If someone played this for me on my deathbed when it was over I would tell them I wish I had died an hour ago.

Svake greier. Barne-TV musikk med dårlige synthlyder.

Wtf was this

I never heard anything about the band or the album. It should have stayed that way. 1/5

The best song in the Spotify Playlist was the first song of the next album.

This was the weirdest album. Lots of strange sounds, very annoying to listen to. I absolutely hated it.

Really not my cup of tea.

Talking shits

NPC female music. Most popular song backround used in commercials

listened to the non-deluxe version because that was the only available one. not really my type of album and i honestly found it odd that it was classified as pop. especially considering after i listened to this album airbuds told me i was the top listener on the app for tomorrow tom. i felt the long version of “genius of love” was an unnecessary addition (considering the short version sucked too). thankful i didn’t have access to the deluxe version. 1/5.

I can see why these guys would want out of Talking Heads and away from David Byrne's shadow. But it was a mistake. Wordy Rappinghood the opened is brilliant, but its rapidly downhill from thereon.

Första albumet jag inte orkade lyssna igenom hela. Allt låter så likadant och det är inget som tilltalar mig.

At times it was fun, but definitely nothing I'd put on myself. That's all I got. 1 Favorite Song: Genius of Love Least Favorite: The Rest of the album

I must be missing some context or something, but as a raw listen, this is pretty trash. One hit wonder and even the hit is only recognizable for the sample (shoutout Return of the Mack!)

Furchtbar. Ich entschuldige mich bei allen Alben, denen ich vorher 1 Stern gegeben habe. Das war schlecht. Derselbe schlechte Song acht Mal oder so wiederholt. Ich will kotzen. 0 Sterne.

I feel trapped in a never-ending 1981 Sesame Street animation. Interminable. Given any 15 second segment it's fine enough in a boring early 80s way but repeat that for an hour - no thank you. 3/10 1 star

I don't get it. Included in the 1000 ɓest albums by mistake, perhaps

It's not bad, exactly, but I just couldn't listen to it.

Whitest music I've heard in a hot second

I ugh… I’m not sure what this is . And I’m only half way through wordy rappinghood

So how do you exactly start with Talkin Heads and end up here? Terrible album, easily bottom 10. It's just not my aesthetics.

Talking Heads without David Byrne This album was fun but not my style. A little out there. I'm not sure I'd ever listen to this again tbh. The beats were super 80s (a lil too 80s for me)...I just can't get into the vocals either Liked songs: None Disliked songs: Wordy Rappinghood

Some somewhat likeable songs intermingled with some of truly unlistenable garbage. Have to admit that I only like genius of love because of Sunny. Best song: Genius of Love Worst song: Atsababy! (Life is Great)

Most of this album sounds like that episode of Friends when Ross plays the keyboard. When I saw “Under the Boardwalk” at the end of the track listing I was expecting it would be an awful cover and it was worse than I feared. Not even “love genius” inspiring Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” (certified banger) could push this album to a 2 for me.

No way hahahahaha

to be honest i don't have anything against this album necessarily in a musical sense as it sounds alright, however, this is one of the most fucking boring albums ever. the only song that kept me listening was Genius of Love if im gonna be honest. not a bad album, just boring asf.

Holy dogshit. This is easily the worst album I've heard so far.

Lots of weird, seemingly random things on this album that fail to resonate with me at all. There's maybe one half-decent song on here.

Garbage

Im sure somebody's 6 year old somewhere loves this

The beat on genius of love was fun for 5 seconds then everything else in the song happened, I don't what's going on or where I am

Sucked then. Sucks now.

I not only hated this album, I'm also now wondering if I ever really liked The Talking Heads, either

Boy oh boy did I not enjoy 80% of this. Why are the songs so long? Why is this a double album?

Literally background music to every 80s movie. Annoying without the movie part.

One hit wonders that are overplayed on Sirius 33.

i just don’t think new wave is for me

Reading some of the reviews, I have a hard time truly believing that I listened to the same album as other reviewers. How can anyone hear this collection of sound and think anything else than "wow, this is absolute garbage" ??

"I've never heard of this band..." "I guess this okay. A little relative..." "Oh. It's that song... Fuck..." "This is really relative..."

Don't do this to me

Wow, definitely not my thing. I am not sure if this is dance or Electronica or what it is. Apparently there is a connection the Talking Heads but theren is nothing to this at all.

Interesting, but I just don't see myself returning.

It was smart following up the worst song I've ever heard with that one recognizable song to try and make us forget. But I will never forget. It's terrible.

Just bad. Words give you a bad review.

This was a tough listen. I couldn't quite figure out what genre this would fit into (which is not inherently a bad thing), but it was hard to pick out elements that I enjoyed. The album started out mediocre and only got worse, ending on a low with "Booming and Zooming," a song consisting of a man speaking unintelligibly on a radio over a vaguely funky beat. Also, and it may have only been problem with the recording I found, but there was heavy clipping on some tracks, like "Lorelei," exacerbating an already-unpleasant experience.

Not to much to like here. Too electronic and dance-y for me.

Feels like B-52s, useful for future samples. A bit droney.

On on on on has a good chorus, and that’s the only positive thing I have to say about this mess of an album. Congratulations, this is my first 1 star review!

Honestly, this album just kinda sucks. 1/5

Would not load. REM loaded instead.

I feel like whoever wrote this should be in an insane asylum. There's like one or two catchy parts but man this album is brutal.

One great song does not make for a great album

noch nie gehört - Genius Love of Love ist ganz nett. Nicht meins.

not my sort of thing!

Important thing about 1001ABYD: It's a personal opinion. None of this album appeals to me in any way.

Electronic and very Poppy.

*heard this one before, don’t have time to relisten for this one*

sad synthy techno

Weird, unpleasant music.

What is this, having a bunch of navigation device telling me where to go would probably have been better than this

This was weird in the worst way possible. Was very glad to hear the 2nd CD was not canon

Now you're taking the piss...

For me too simple

This opening song sucks ass. The rest of the album isn't much better. Wow that stunk.

It's not quirky. It's not fun. The vocals are grating. It's like listening to ADHD. I hate it.

Ok, this is from 1981- let's pretend it won't be new wave. haha. Whaddaya know, it's new wave! Thankfully half of it wasn't available on Spotify. Sadly, half of it was - primary school rap, stupid noises, like a community art theatre project. No hint of any actual talent. 1/5.

Oh. My. God. This always happens. When you think Latto was original. But then she just took it from Mariah Carey. BUT THEN SHE JUST TOOK IT FROM FUCKING TOM TOM CLUB. 1

Superficial. I couldn’t get anything interesting out of it, not least because every single idea is vamped about 1/5 too long.

Ironic vaporwave before vaporwave. I am sure I would enjoy this while taking foreign substances. What a tough listen and very pretentious. Do they not have another tone for the keyboard and more than 6 keys? Same crap over and over. This is terrible. - The Good Lorelei - The Suck & Skip Wordy Rappinghood Genius of Love L'Elephant As Above, so Below On, on, on, on The rest of the album

Mariah carey fantasy> Tom Tom Club Genius of love

2hr and 17 min of torture. I made it through the two most listened to songs and skipped through a couple of hours. Maybe I could have powered through a normal album length, but I'm not going to listen to three albums worth of this noise.

Reaching 600 albums, I was sure that this was not possible. However, I dislike every song on this album. It's possibly important for music history or some musical movement like the new wave, but it's totally unpleasant.
