Love Bowie 100/10

embarrassing asf i havent got into bowie up until this point. yeah i get it.

Brilliant

The Best

Really enjoyed. Very laid back and soulful.

I love David Bowie, a masterpiece of course

No idea I could be elevated via a music album.

One of my favorite Bowie albums!

This was great, it felt combative almost though i couldn’t tell you why. Just feels a bit like he’s in on something you’re not and you have to keep listening to try and get in on the bit.

I was never a big fan of Bowie, even if there are certain songs that I just love by him (e.g., Let's Dance, China Girl, Suffragette City). And when I had his first record from this list, Low, I didn't think it was all that special, only reaffirming my position. Since then, surprisingly, I've really changed my tune. It started with the Ziggy Stardust album, which had incredible songwriting. Earlier this week, I had Blackstar, a fascinating album with heavy electronic and jazz bents. That he was able to recreate himself that late in his career was astounding to me. This album is only further entrenching my new position and that recreation theme could really apply to this album as well, as he moved away from glam rock and towards more of a R&B / soul inspired rock sound. The title track has a great sound to it, including from some of the support players (Luther and David Sanborn, most notably). I liked the way his vocals offset vs. the soaring background singers. Nice toss to A Day In The Life by The Beatles too. Win answers the question, what if George Michael was around in the 70s. The breathy points of this make it for me. A cool, sultry track. Fascination is a great song. This starts with a strange combination of early 70s funk and some early disco types of sounds. It's bass heavy approach reminds me of Shaft a bit. You can just picture him getting into singing this. This song is the best find I've had in the last week on this countdown. 3 for 3 and an amazing start to this record. Right wasn't quite as good for me, but it was a solid track with continued good base work and more David Sanborn, neither of which are ever bad things. Somebody Up There Likes Me had some of Bowie's best impassioned vocals on it, along with a series of gorgeous harmonies throughout. Totally dug this tune. Listening to Across the Universe, I can't believe a song like this wasn't part of any of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, as it would have fit perfectly. Cool, sweeping track. I was wondering why it sounded like a Beatles song and then I read that it was a Lennon-McCartney tune, which made total sense. I'm just ignorant to many things Beatles, as I am not a big fan of them. Can You Hear Me was a somewhat subdued track compared to some of the rest of the album. Liked the soul bent to this and I have mentioned that I am fan of the David Sanborn work on this record yet? Yeah, more of that is a good thing. Also, the a cappella ending of this was great. The closer, Fame, is a track that we have all heard a bunch before, but admittedly I've generally just let it sit there when it's on the radio, not really paying too much attention to it. Upon actually listening, the funk, the syncopation, the movement between various vocal parts, all of it is great. A really well constructed track. Blown away by how excellent this album ended up being. Even the couple that I didn't think were excellent songs are still good listens. Basically a complete album. 5-stars.

In terms of genres bowie has worked in, this is the one thats most up my street. Title track is a banger. Fascination is so good Maybe this is his best album, certainly feels top 3. Im gonna go 5 because its great

I'd always thought Young Americans was one of Bowie's lesser 1970s albums. Now I’m wondering what I was basing that on because I loved this.

First time listening to a David Bowie album. I'm very impressed, not only because the music was good but because I figured Ziggy to be more of a metal head - that was the generally preconception I had of him. This album was very different than what I had anticipated and it's very nice.

Man this was so good. From the Beatles cover, to the two major hits, it's a great R&B album from one of the most prolific artists in the 70s. I don't think I'd ever listened front to back, but it was a great listen with no bad ones in there.

It's hard to be objective about Bowie

If you ever catch me giving Bowie fewer than 5 stars on here, assume that I've been bodysnatched.

primeira vez realmente escutando david bowie e to vendo q demorei até demais

I have been WAITING for my first Bowie album I love this one The Beatles' cover is so important to me, although I like it slightly less than the original The saxes throughout!!!!!!!!! Fame is just a banger

YESSSSSSS

i love u david bowie u never disappoint <3

I loved young Americans and Across the Universe. The jazz elements were fun and soulful 10/10 good flow between it all and god I would live for this one

deep cuts are enjoyable. lot of saxophone. bangers beginning middle and end

David Bowie's album is a soul, what's better than that? Like the instruments of Luther Vandres and John Lennon, this plastic soul, as Bowie would say, is sensational with lyrics on often romantic and political themes, so come on

Another Bowie, another classic. Surprisingly (?) I like Fame the least of this bunch.

Genius, great saxophone

Bowie has sort of a funny voice. It isn't really pretty in a conventional sense, but that isn't to say he isn't a technically sound singer. Do half the stuff he does, singing the lines he sings, and making them sound good is an accomplishment. Bowie also just oozes charisma on this. It probably helps that huge portions of this are built out of recorded jam sessions. Bowie always had good taste in collaborators and this album sees him picking up a good portion of the major figures he could with for like a decade. It leaves on an absolute banger of a note with Fame, but the whole thing is strong.

Shame about Bowie as a person but… come on man. It’s good. You know it’s good, I know it’s good, hell yeah. The horns…. The HORNS! The production, mixing, mastering!

Miss him

Iconic!

I don’t think the Across the Universe cover is anything special really (is that a hot take?) but good lord the rest is FANTASTIC.

A classic, but not my favorite Bowie album.

I like it A LOT

loved it. fav: across the universe. 9/10

Gee I like Bowie. I love that this is such a departure from what he had been doing. Somehow I'd never come across this album. Obviously, Young Americans and Fame are the standout tracks, but really, I liked it all.

This one may be on the lower end of 5 for me but still a 5. It started really hitting me that we’re listening to like… 1000+ albums and so if I find 150 albums to be 5s, that’s fine. So although this is not my most favorite Bowie album, it’s for sure a re-listen. It reminds me of when I first got my car and would play Bowie whenever my parents were in it because I didn’t have any other playlists that felt appropriate to play with them around. Which was mostly funny because they listened to tons of much more explicit music around me. Anyways, my older sister was a big fan of NASA stuff and Bowie always makes me think of being a kid and watching rocket launches. Nostalgia album. Season: Start of School (Early Autumn) Favorite Song: Across The Universe

Bowie #2 on the list - The soul-funk years. It's great. End of.

Fantastic album. I fricken love David Bowie. Every song on here is SO GOOD. His voice is just so captivating and somethin else. Such grooves on this album. If you dont like Bowie, we cant be friends.

Album #37, David Bowie, Young Americans ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’m glad Bowie lived to make the music that he did, but without meaning any disrespect, cocaine and Bowie seemed to go hand in glove around this period. There’s something interesting that happens when an artist makes music that’s very obviously derivative. The elements of the genre they’re borrowing from often end up exaggerated. It’s like they lean too hard into certain parts in order to make it work. That’s kind of what happens on this album. This is exaggerated soul. Everything is turned up to the maximum. The chord progressions are big, soulful progressions. The backing vocals are huge. The smoothness and slickness of the sound are pushed right to the front. Even the lyrical style leans heavily into the genre. It’s basically an exaggerated version of soul music, and I absolutely love it. I love the sound of this record and the feel of this record. I don’t really care if it’s derivative, and I don’t care that Bowie himself didn’t seem to look back on it as fondly as some of his more experimental albums. When I want a Bowie fix, I sometimes reach for this before albums like The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars or the Berlin-era records like Low. It’s probably not his best record, and it might not objectively be a five-star album. This is definitely a personal rating. But it’s one of the most enjoyable Bowie records to listen to. You can put it on in almost any situation and it works. This album and Station to Station, and Bowie’s short move into soul music generally, are probably my favourite period of his career. I love every song on it. It’s an album that works best as a full listen, even though the individual songs stand on their own. Just putting it on and letting it play is a great experience. Even the slightly strange inclusion of Across the Universe by The Beatles, which can feel a bit clumsy at times, still ends up soaring. The songs are quite long for what they are, but they draw you in as they go. They build gradually and they’re incredibly catchy.

Incredible! The legendary Fame song is here. I loved this album

Soul crooner is my favorite flavor of Bowie.

David Bowie shows once again he’s brilliant by completely changing his style and managing to knock it out of the park.

finally a david bowie album. i’ve been getting into david bowie as of late and he’s so amazing. but we are going to talk about this album young americans. it’s really soulful if i could say. it leans more into more rock/ jazz aspects of music or soul you could say. and he does this so well i love this album, it also has one of my favorite bowie tracks “win” he did his thing with it. it’s a short album but it packs a punch, you could just put this on and dance. i haven’t really seen anyone talk about this and it needs more recognition. this album is now on rotation for me and i just want to say david bowie was one of the most artistic and creative and influential artists of all time, he did everything and wasn’t afraid to experiment on his music. this album is a 10/10

Bowie, what can I say?

Der kann auch Soul

Jazzy, soulful. So many layers and textures. Funky. I love it!

Love this album, never really realized he covered Across the Universe, I think I like it better than the original

I love this album. Such a nice vibe to this. ended up listening to it a few more times than I'd planned just because you put it on and just jam for 40 minutes or whatever and then it's over. Every song on this one has such great replay value. A lot of funk/disco tracks so jammy and full of smarm (I think I mean swank here). You do the stank face and move around to it. Blue-eyed soul the way only Bowie can pull it off. Have to give it a 5.

Loved it, start of Bowie's soul period. Just magnificent

The Great David Bowie

Love this album

Another 5/5 by Bowie. This soul period suited him very well.

Love this album, underrated of Bowie’s mid 70s work.

I even like the Across the Universe cover.

bangersssss. love bowie

Fascination comes around… superstition ain’t the way…. “I want love so badly, I want you must of all” 10/10 Fame: De mis canciones favs de Bowie.

It’s Bowie man.

2 of the greatest songs ever written are on this album (Fame and Young Americans)

Sounds good, we were all young once.

All bangers. Coked up pre-Berlin r&b gold. An incredible cast of collaborators. He had already reinvented his sound 5 or 6 times by this point in his career, but he was somehow able to make it sound perfect each time he tried something new. The production sounds great, the band sounds great, Bowie's voice sounds great, the backup singers sound great. It just sounds great. Maybe not even a top 5 Bowie album for me, but it's still close to perfect...that's how good Bowie was.

Never listened to this Bowie album before, but I absolutely loved it. It’s slick, groovy, sexy, moody and it’s now one of my fave Bowie albums. maybe it’s just because it’s new to me - but it’s is a 5 for me 5.0/5.0 Best Song: Somebody Up There Likes Me

Beast of an album. Bowie isn’t my favorite and I’m kinda annoyed with how many of his albums are on the list. This one earns its keep.

excellent

Really liked this all the way through.

I didn’t think I even liked David Bowie but it turns out I love David Bowie!

Great! It's Bowie

finally a banger

Great album. Surprisingly, I don't think I've ever hear the entire album before.

Me gusta

Always been my favourite Bowie.

hello again, bowie. he's doing some soul this time around. I'm not rating this high just because i might be biased to this genre of music, but i'm happy with arguing that this kind of style fits perfectly with bowie's singing style and aesthetic, trippy, soulful and characterful with backing tracks that match his energy to such a level, it'll make you a little surprised.

No skips. Favourites were 'Across the Universe' and 'Can You Hear Me'.

dinle!!!

amazing

LOVED! couldn't have a better rec for new year's day.

Perfection. It's a cohesive, while displaying a stunning range of skills and style. Bowie, you are glorious. This was so much fun to listen to.

Definitely 5

Over and over again I’m so impressed with Bowie. He practically remakes his style for every single album. He’s innovative. He takes risks, he’s everything people tell me the Beetles are. Easily one of my favorite by him on the list so far.

This might be my favorite Bowie album when looking at it from front-to-back. Really impressed by this one

Album 995 of 1089 David Bowie - Young Americans (1975) Rating : 4.5 / 5 This one really is a standout, even if I wouldn’t call it perfect. It starts strong with the title track and keeps a solid groove all the way through. Bowie leans hard into soul and R&B here, and it works - not as a gimmick, but as a confident shift in direction. This is the album that truly brought Bowie to the masses in the U.S., and it’s easy to hear why. The songs are more direct, the production is clean, and everything feels a bit more accessible without losing his personality. There’s still experimentation happening, but it’s wrapped in melodies and rhythms that invite you in instead of challenging you to keep up. What I appreciate most is how effortlessly it flows. It doesn’t rely on a single massive moment; it just stays consistently strong from start to finish. A really enjoyable listen and a great example of Bowie knowing exactly when to reinvent himself — and how to do it without losing his identity.

Damn this album is fire

legend. great album

I loved this album. Hadn't listened to it all the way through before. Bowie could do anything well.

It’s not a “Masterpiece 5” but EVERY SONG *ROCKS*

8/10 album!!

Bowie was such a shapeshifter, both musically and with his identity, but his essential, foundational Bowie-ness is always present and palpable. This is one of my favorite records of his. It’s absolutely pastiche, satirically vapid, and full of radio hits — and yet, he manages to assembled a blend of funk and philly soul completely his own.

Great album, "Win", "Somebody Up There Likes Me" and "Across the Universe" are great.

Muito bom

3 of 5

I listened to this album before and remember not being terribly impressed. However, having put it on just now, I immediately started to be entranced by the rhythm. It really is a fun album to dance to! Bowie is not the greatest singer of all time, and I don't purport that he would say otherwise. He sings fine, and his vocals match the musical style well, but he's not on the Mt. Rushmore. He's one of those artists whose gravitas outweigh their native talents. He's got so much confidence and creativity that it doesn't matter how well he sings, because the listener is just enveloped by him. That's how I feel about this album. It's not got the most obvious talent or composition or complexity, but there's just something that makes me want to dance when I hear it.

Solid 5 star album. Yeah, it's not soul per se, but it still slaps. It's amazing that Brian Eno took all this talent and creativity and threw it in the trash when they met and started collaborating.

Top notch Bowie at his best

Wow, I love David Bowie. Fame is one of my favorite songs of all time and the rest of the album is fantastic as well

ah isch das etz s guete bowie album? spass find eig alles vo ihm recht geil. das bsunders bis jetz. tönt alles huuere smooth, young americans sehr en geile song. day in the life zitat extreem geil. win und fascination mached de smooth jazz/r&b wiiter und finds seeehr geil. meh ide richtig r&b wo de ganz song uf eim groove blibt aber trotzdem cool well seehr groovy. right het seehr cooli chords. ich ha alles seehr gern? somebody up there likes me au suuuper schös intro. au chrank coole song. across the universe halt super schöne song. lennon glaub nie happy mit de version vode beatles gsi. LENNom. super version do. bowie sin gsang isch im melodramatischste modus aber s passt. can you hear m de langsami type 70er soul. nöd soo genial aber immerno sehr sehr guet. me ghltt de luther vandross huere use ide backing vocals. aaah fame kenni huuere geile scheiss.

My favourite Bowie album. He is such a chameleon and love the sound he adopted for this. My love for YA was cemented when I saw a video of him performing the title track with Luther vandross as a backing vocalist. He owned the stage.

Nothing to say. It’s David Bowie

This album is such an amazing time capsule for Bowie and the rocketship he was boarding.

Fabulous album. I have only heard his hits and no albums all the way through as with this one, but I have to imagine one of his best.

crazy to think this is nine albums deep for Bowie and he still kept innovating. I thought it sounded a little different but upon reading the write up I saw the soul R&B influence and it just clicked. Funky Bowie just works.

Maybe my favorite Bowie album. The title track always reminds me of my friend The Beav. We used to drive around bumping it and singing along. Good times. Rest In Piss buddy

Bowie is a classic. Every rendition and reiteration is novel. Respect.

It's Bowie. That's all ya need to know.

The chameleon of rock takes his Philly soul turn and incorporates Luther Vandross and John Lennon! Excellent tunes, fantastic band, a soul legend !

alright

Probably my fav Bowie album relative to general recognition - I don't think this is widely considered top tier but it probably edges into my top 5 of his. The 4 song run from Win through Somebody up There likely my most dipped into Bowie album section, for the intricate song structure and backing vocal arrangements. Right is particularly unique - the almost call-and- response backing vocals kick in, giving way to a song where they gradually take over as Bowie's vocals gradually fade into the background and disappear for the last minute of the song entirely.

perfect saturday morning stroll around town

Bowie is like the one white man who can do soul

Nothing less for DB

Very good

What an awesome way to end the week.

This is probably my third favorite album by David Bowie. Young Americans the song is a banger and you've also got Across The Universe and ending with Fame. In my opinion it goes like this in terms of the greatest Bowie Albums from my collection. 1. Low 2. Scary Monsters 3. Young Americans

5, might be my favourite zavid album

Love it, love it, love it. One of my all times favourites!! 😍

Ritmos incessantes. Muita gente reclama do cover de Across The Universe. O que eu não gosto é da faixa Can You Hear Me. Blue-eyed soul!! E a participação do Bowie em Soul Train? Histórica. Grande disco, bravo. 5/5

Maybe my favourite Bowie record! The horn lines, the string arrangements, the songwriting, the lyricism, the guitar riffs, the vocals... Love it back to front. Easy 5

Always happy to listen to more David Bowie! This album in its entirety was less familiar to me, but opened with great and recognizable energy with the title track. I just love Bowie’s sound and vocal range and the shift from Glam Rock to a more R&B/Soul sound is apparent. Ultimately this is an artist I am a big fan of, so while this isn’t my favorite album of his I appreciate the experimentation of styles and respect him that much more for it.

Another banger, very groovy

This record is a classic in every right.

Some really good songs

David Bowie is a bad man. Infinitely funky & soulful. All the funk converges in Fame, which is so damn funky it hurts. I don't think there is a weak song here. Loved it.

It's a classic, one of many Bowie's classics. Really fucking tasty throughout, don't know what else to say.

This one hit me right in the sweet spot. Funky. Full. Alive. The whole thing works as a complete piece. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions: - Young Americans - Fascination - Right - Somebody up There Likes Me - Fame

Somebody up there had Luther Vandross in the backing vocals. Young Americans, the Collab with Lennon as well...what a vibey album. Although Bowie called it a plastic soul album, some sort of critique of celebrity and perhaps the warning of glossy celebrity sneaking god knows what in the mental loading dock

I love everything Bowie did so I am biased but this is a great record. Full of funk and very relaxing to listen to. Win and fascination are my favorites from this but the only track I don’t love is the across the universe cover. I will continue to keep this in my rotation, just never gets old

yayyyy

Bowie.

Love Bowie and this is a great album

Bowie apparently never committed to saying he was doing soul music here, so at least we all agree on that. Who knows whether he was saying it because he didn't nail the sound he was looking for, or because it was intentionally just a little bit off. In either case, calling it "plastic soul" or "a facsimile of soul" is more accurate than calling it soul music. But my major takeaway has less to do with the soul influence he was trying to channel and more to do with the new wave sound he was accidentally creating. If I didn't know when this album was issued in 1975, I would have guessed it came out five or ten years later. I'm impressed by how ahead of it's time this felt and ended up listening to it three times. I gave Hunky Dory 4/5 stars, and my feelings about this record are much less ambiguous. I wouldn't have liked this one as much when I was in high school, but it made a bigger impression this year. I guess I'm a Bowie fan.

Absolutely loved this. This is my favourite David Bowie album now over Ziggy Stardust. Amazing vocals and production ticking every category to make an album I love. There isn’t really anything I disliked about this project every song was diverse and great. Some favourites were Right, Somebody up There Likes Me and Can You Hear Me all being 10/10 songs. I’m very happy with this and I’m giving it a 9.5 4.7/5

Loved every moment, as a David Bowie fan boy this album encapsulated every aspect of his music that I just can't get enough of.

Great album. Variety of styles.

What a phenomenal album. Had never listened before. Sometimes he reminds me of the Beatles and other times it’s straight funky like Sly or EW&F. He’s so eclectic and I love it. I’m a new fan for sure.

The album that made him a black star and projected on a path away from glam rock and his bisexual characterizations of imaginable stars. Produced and recorded in my home town of Philadelphia-Philly soul time. Plenty of guest artists

This is my 2d Bowie album after "Ziggy Stardust." I gave that a 4 and I think this is better. Not only are the songs great but the way the album is sequenced is pretty perfect.

Love this album. Can’t go wrong with Bowie

The bridge to Let's Dance?

bowie = immediate 5 stars

1. Young Americans - 10 The sax opens the track brilliant before the amazing vocals of Bowie lead the track. As it progresses, it continues to build into amazing sound. Everything about this track is so enjoyable to listen to. 2. Win - 7 The instruments in the open are great. Bowie's vocals are ok but lyrically the song is a bit random. It's not his strongest stuff by any stretch of the imagination. Background vocals add a lot of good sound to help you get through the track. 3. Fascination - 10 Guitar sounds great in the opening part of this track and Bowie's vocals are incredibly addicting to listen to. Background vocals are an awesome flavour and Bowie's vocals do an amazing job of leading in the drums and remaining instruments. Overall the track sounds amazing. 4. Right - 10 AMAZING guitar and sax on this track. The best track on the album by far. Bowie's vocal range is explored very well on this track as well. It's an amazing vibe with an incredible sound. 5. Somebody Up There Likes Me - 10 Brilliant instruments to open. The sax solo with piano support is absolutely incredible. Bowie's vocals are great and the background vocals elevate this song yet again. The wailing sax is brilliant during it's second solo in the bridge. Fantastic track. 6. Across The Universe - 8 It's a decent track. The vocal change in Bowie's style on this track is definitely out of place for the album and this could have easily been a track on Aladdin Sane as opposed to here. It's not a bad track overall, bit repetitive if anything but overall it's decent. 7. Can You Hear Me - 9 Brilliant ending with the vocals. A very smooth song. Sax is the star of the show here. Solid stuff. 8. Fame - 10 Brilliant track to end on. The waning vocals shouting fame with long spaces for the instruments to breathe is a superb touch. Outstanding track to end the album on. Average Rating: 9.25 Adjusted to a 5-Point Scale: 4.63 Rounded Up: 5 Stars

I've been Bowie agnostic for a long time but this removed all barriers. I love this. Now I see.

The worst song is his Across The Universe cover, but I can look past that because: 1. John Lennon is on the song and I find that pretty cool; 2. This album is just that good that I can look past one decent song. Young Americans was always one of, if not, my all time favorite Bowie song, so why am I just now listening to the album when I got it randomly today? I don't know but I'm kicking myself for not listening to it sooner. I love it. I miss David Bowie so much.

The best Bowie album musically in my opinion. I'd give a 4.5 if I could

Leaving glam behind (as much as Bowie can leave glam behind) Bowie embraces soul music with stunning results. The album has such faces as John Lennon, Carlos Alomar, Earl Slick, David Sanborn as well as a then unknown Luthor Vandross. It's a stomper and if not the best album of 1975 certainly the most unexpected. Viva Bowie!

Can’t believe the guy who played Castor/Zeus in TRON legacy is also a musician! Who knew?!

Interesting album…I liked it!

Oh hell yeah. Bowie almost always will get five stars from me, but this one gets extra love. So goddamned good. Take me back to an era when an album cover like this could exist. Masterpiece after masterpiece on this album.

Easily one of my favorite albums of his! I love the themes used throughout! This touches on everything from pop stardom to loneliness. His vocals are so good throughout!!!

So good I almost forgot to rate it

I have always been intimidated by David Bowie's albums, even though I love many of the individual songs on this album. This exceeded my already high expectations, it didn't feel like there was a note misplaced, and sandwiching such a sonic experience in between Young Americans the song and Fame was just perfection. Loved this.

Not my favorite Bowie, but I do recognize the significance of it within his career as his transition from glam rock to more funk/soul inspired music. He has some great songs on here (Young Americans, Fame) and some definite flops. The backing vocalalists (including Luther Vandross) on this are especially good, and really contribute to a very different sound for Bowie. It's gonna get a 5 but only because of my personal biases, I totally get why this one isn't everyone's cup of tea.

This is an amazing album. One of Bowie's best

All time good songs, very listenable and repayable, almost every song is a hit.

As a major Bowie boy, this was admittedly never my favourite from his classic run of records. But it still is that good. Awesome blend of his idiosyncratic songwriting & vocal stylings with sumptuous r & b rhythms & textures. The guest spots from Luther Vandross, David Sanborn and John Lennon really help make this a special album as well.

I think this is a super cool album. Probably the first of many curveballs in Bowie's discography. It incorporates elements of soul and funk, but still sounds very much like a David Bowie album. It sounds like the 1970s in the best way possible, with that phased guitar and sax. Lots of highlights here including the title track, "Fame", "Fascination", the spacey lounge lizard version of "Across the Universe", and especially "Win", one of Bowie's greatest and most underrated songs. "Right" is probably the only track that doesn't quite do it for me, but that's a minor complaint. 5 stars.

This is great! Love David’s singing on this and the backing vocals are A+. Only misstep is The Beatles cover. Everything else is luscious. 4.5 stars but will round up to 5 for this project.

Great album, one of Bowies best, IMHO. Everyone should listen to this - often.

Personal faves of the moment: Right & Somebody up There Likes Me

Fantastic album all the way through. Nothing but bangers. Fame is a nearly perfect song, not just funk rock not more like funk kraut-rock. A real argument in favor of cocaine. Make sure to check out all of the outtakes, there's a whole other album there.

Albums got SOUL

Classic.

After indulging the last vestiges of Ziggy on Diamond Dogs (gloriously on Rebel Rebel), Bowie embraced blue-eyed R&B and Soul. The opening and closing tracks are forever engraved in cultural memory.

Beautiful.

Bowie's love of music brings out the best of himself and every musician that contributed on this record. A ray of light that warms the soul.

This is my favorite album we've had of Bowie's so far (still haven't gotten Ziggy Stardust so that could end up taking its place, but for now this is tops!) Bowie's vocals, while perfectly fine, might be the least impressive thing about the album. I love all the backing vocals and how much richness and life they add to the songs. The instrumentation is all so lush and funky too, and the songwriting is solid. Everything just works incredibly well together. Fame is such a classic, and my new favorite discovery is Fascination, that song is amazing. Really loved the whole album!

On top of everything else, includes the truest ever couplet - Took him minutes, Took her nowhere...

A master at the absolute peak of his craft. God knows how many different drugs he was on and this may be one of the albums he has no memory of recording but it all produced magic.

Lovelyyy

Superb. One of my favourite Bowie (and therefore favourite overall) albums.

HELLLLLLLL YEAH

Holy funky soul. And.. R&B?? In my Bowie album??! A side of the man I've never experienced before, and I LOVED it. Sax reminded me of Springsteen's Thunder Road. Now that's a model Young American.

It's Bowie

Great album my first David bowie and not my last

Bowie was always cool!

- Another in a string of great releases ... he was a blessing to us... -

Loved it love Bowie

I love David Bowie.

Bowie does blue-eyed soul. Idiosyncratic and brilliant.

Any David Bowie album is 5 stars with me. Legendary artist. Words left to describe his everything haven’t been created yet

Every track is awesome.

Just a great album all the way through.

love it

Yeah maybe he's copying black soul music, but I just like it

Smooth

Bowie's most underrated album from his golden 70's run. To shift so easily from the apocalyptic Glam Rock of Diamond Dogs to the plastic soul seen here demonstrates his seismic talent. Helps that the songs are great as well. Young American's, Fascination, and Fame are the standouts, but Win and Somebody Up There Likes Me and Right are all great as well. I also recommend you listen to the song Who Can I be Now which I believe was replaced by Fame on the Album, but arguably still deserved a spot. I went into this already a fan expecting to give it a 4, but it's only a 4 amongst his other works. Against everyone else, this is a 5. Befitting Album cover as well.

No lo tenia. Magnifique

Already listened to this, potentially my favourite Bowie album (between ziggy stardust, aladdin sane and blackstar). There's just something about it that I can't quite explain.

Disco Dave ain't bad

One of the masterpieces of the master. 5!

Lovely. Some of the less famous songs fade into the background, but the whole album sounds great because Bowie sounds great. [(3/5) Previously listened.]

Okay, David Bowie today. Happy New Year. I high key might dive into more DB after this. I’ve always wanted to, and never have… even though I’ve seen Labyrinth. This album was made in 1975 and for me that’s personally ironic because I just watched the first episode of SNL ever and that was done in 1975… and it kinda just makes me feel there was this dope sort of anti culture thing going on in the mid 70’s. Also the intro track’s intro sounds like it was the intro theme for SNL (and still is). Like this jazzy upbeat joint. The rest of this album reminds me how much DB must’ve hung around niggas. The song “Fame” I think we all know.

1.young americans 5/5 2.win 4/5 3.fascination 5/5 4.right 5/5 5. somebody up there likes me 4/5 6 across the universe 5/5 7 can you hear me 5/5 8 fame 5/5 What can i say its bowie

Great plastic pop. Will listen again.

One of his best… but he has so many of those !

Great album that shows how Bowie could bridge the style of glam rock to a more bluesy and soulful record. Great tunes like "Young Americans" and "Fame" with an interesting version of the Beatles "Across the Universe"

David Bowie is the Best....RIP,you are missed by the World...Ziggy Stardust.....

David Bowie, amazing as always

Excellent

I was too young for David Bowie’s first flourishing in the early 1970s. He was unapproachable cool in the early 80s in his “Modern Love” and “Let’s Dance” era. I can’t believe I’ve never listened to this entire album before. It is stunning.

Killer saxophone Full bodied, artsy pop rock Elevates your mood

perfeito

It was incredible!

5 out of 5. A top Bowie album for me, easily.

Im not normally a die hard bowie fan but this rips

These reads so smooth. Ends on a high note with Fame but other tracks like Fascination are great too.

A uniquely memorable turn from Bowie that's one of my absolute favorites of his.

The Duke had arrived. Which artists today could go from an album like Diamond Dogs only to one year later make a totally different album like Young Americans. Two incredible but two very different albums. Young Americans is an incredibly solid album and one I've listened many times. Come on generator you've been suggesting great albums but all too familiar softballs. Challenge me.

An absolute creamer

Day311 - this is another great bowie album other than the across the universe cover that i didn’t care for

that's exactly what I like, my first 5/5 here

Another perfect albumm loved it all Best song: young Americans

Probably THE ALBUM that I fell in love with Bowie listening to. 5 stars

Ziggy Stardust forever <3

holy mackerel

Quintessential David Bowie. Fantastic.

David Bowie leaves behind Ziggy and becomes the great white duke. The shitty cover of across the universe non withstanding still a stellar album!

Bowie is one of those artists I’ve heard a lot of but haven’t done the full albums, but have been intending to. I only really knew Young Americans, Fame, and Across coming in. Reading more about him when we listened to Next Day (which I didn’t love) know that he has reinvented himself a few times and this was a bit of a soul-inspired phase. I think I like this Bowie sound the most, but I’m sure that will evolve as I get more into the discography. Thinking about the previous note that Sufjan needed to let loose on the vocals a bit, and this really brings that into focus: just so impressive how expressive and free Bowie is, so hard to capture that on record. The whole album feels so organic. Had to be fun as hell to be in that session with him and Lennon. This session player on the sax really brings it together, and looks like he’s played on just a ridiculous number of other big albums from the era. Have already listened to this one three times today and don’t know how or when I’m going to stop.

Surprising shift from his earlier albums, but still noticeably Bowie. Not a single sour spot or fat. Very fun album

Hochgenuss. David Bowie kann alles. Und das auf höchstem Niveau. Unfassbar schön.

Hell yea!!!!! Absolute beauty from the 70s. Sublime dance music for us all!

Top 3 Bowie Album for me. Just class. But maybe I’m biased, I just love young Americans.

So funky!

Noncing young yanks yamma yamma

Bowie's dive into 'Blue Eyed Soul' Young Americans and Fame are the best known hits rom this album but with songs like Fascination and Somebody Up There Likes Me, Bowie once again delves into a different genre to find what he likes. Features some fantastic backing musicians like David Sandborn on sax and a then unknown Luther Vandross on backing vocals and vocal arrangements.

Started the album, got horny, cranked the hog, finished the album, went back for round 2.

YAY 🎉 🎉 🎉 young americans- 10 no question. AINT THERE ONE DAMN SONG THAT CAN MAKE ME BREAK DOWN AND CRYYYY win- 7 or 8 fascination- 7 or 8 right- 9 somebody up there likes me- 7 across the universe- 7 or 8 can you hear me- 7 fame- 8

Another incredible Bowie album containing amazing performances from all the musicians involved. I feel Ike this is one of his more strait forward and cohesive albums. Sonically this might be my favorite album of his, up there with Blackstar. It’s less experimental than is usually expected but the songwriting really shines more because of it. Top tier Bowie for sure.

Magic master Bowie

Every track is a banger.

On the top of his game - the soul vibe. Excellent.

Great album. David Bowie is so ephemeral.

david bowie

Classic album that i hadn't heard all the way through. I'm a phish fan and they have a song called "david bowie" where the only lyrics are davids name. This album proves why that song exists

Killer plastic soul.

David very much getting his soulful groove on. Fabulous title track. I also adore Win - it mixes Diamond Dogs disturbia with soulful BVs and floaty gorgeousness. I love Can You Hear Me. Other tracks, eg Fascination and Somebody Up There, have a great groove, but do end up a bit repetitive. I've never really liked Fame, but it's interesting. It's really a 9.5 out of 10 for me, but I refuse not to round up cos BOWIE.

Wonderful.

Wow, I got Station to Station and Young Americans within a week of each other. This one has stayed with me more: though I'm not bothered about the Across the Universe cover, the rest is amazing. Returning to Bowie these days what sticks out to me is the cold detachment of his lyrics; he almost always chooses intellectual experimentation over genuine emotion. Fascination indeed.

just miss once king

I don’t have anything bad to say about this album, it’s so good

It's a good one!

Bowie's aight

I love Bowie. Period.

Classic!

I *am* young American. All night! One of my favorite samples in that song, too. I love when samples make you reimagine an original. “Fascination” is kinda gay. Omg speaking of Beatles covers and samples. I don’t really like “Can You Hear Me” that much… it’s hard to when “Fame” is an option. I also like “Who Can I Be Now?” quite a bit.

One of Bowie’s finest records — I absolutely love it. From the opening bars of “Young Americans”, you know you’re hearing something special. It’s one of my all-time favourite Bowie songs: soulful, dramatic, and packed with energy. Considering this was such a bold shift in direction — stepping away from glam rock into what he called “plastic soul” — it’s remarkably close to perfection. A completely new sound, and yet it feels effortless. The album is full of belters. “Fame” has that slinky groove and bite, while “Fascination” keeps the momentum going with pure rhythm and swagger. There’s confidence all over this record — Bowie reinventing himself again, and making it look easy. Favourite tracks: Fame and Young Americans Least favourite: Honestly, there isn’t one — it’s strong throughout. Album artwork: An amazing cover. Sharp, stylish, and perfectly in keeping with this soulful new era.

Mid-Youth Brittannia. Red hot, pop funk, rhythm and feel and all that's true and real and a 48-K Beatles cover snuck under the covers. Delightful

good one. might buy

his best

não é ícone a toa

Brilliant, and still far from his best work!

Jævlig bra

Bowie ranked 5?

love this album, smooth laid back soul sound which is a little different from the Diamond Dogs and Ziggy Bowie and still terrific. Young Americans and Fame are especially awesome and Fascination is also great.

A few hits that are obviously great, and the non-hits are interesting and moving. Great example of Bowie's ability to morph his sound.

Handful of 10 star tracks with some standard Bowie croons...which is still 5/5

Favourite song - fame

Classy bit of blue eyed soul from the thin white duke. Includes classic Bowie tracks like Fame and Young Americans as well as songs like Across the Universe which showcase his unique vocal style

David Bowie.

Wow, out of my first 80ish albums listened to, this is the third Bowie album. I actually cannot find fault with that and especially with this choice. I enjoyed this album from start to finish. Sadly, David Sanborn, just passed away and his contribution to this album helps make it special. Of course, kicking of with the song "Young Americans" and ending with "Fame" is something special in and of itself.

David Bowie is always good for a listen.

Another marvel out of the Electric Lady studio. The melt of R&B, jazz and rock comes together over the course of the lengthy tracks for only 8 total.

Bowie makes great music, this pop disco/funk album from the mid-70s rules and is no exception. Also, FAAAaaammmeeeee.

Iconic album sleeve. Great tracklist one of the best ever.

Soul y R&B de Bowie. Vinilo.

I just really really enjoyed this. I was surprised cos I haven’t really got on with Bowie previously but this is just lovely, Souly, great vibe

Really enjoyed this listen, never really thought of myself as a Bowie fan, but this has proved different.

Sounds like the type of music I would put on to start some intimate sex, nice bit of saxophone. Enjoyable

This album is peak from the real chill and melodic instramentals and Bowie's wonderful voice just brings you in to the album and the listening experience brings you to a new level Idek I just love Bowie 9/10

Bowie could do no wrong imo. While not my top Bowie album (Ziggy). Still an excellent album

live laugh love david bowie fr tho, i loved this album, i know that when it comes to new songs i have to lissen to just one for a long time to actually start loving it, but i really enjoyed lissening to this album. i loved how it wasnt to long and i could lissen to this on repeat some timees without feeling exausted

Thoroughly enjoyed this

Some of my favorite Bowie songs are on this album.

I was worried about this one because I don’t love young Americans. Win is great, fascination and I dunno it’s just way funkier in a good way than I expected.

Such a fantastically weird album. David Bowie was wild and wacky with his music creation, and it created some truly memorable albums, Young Americans being a great example. Probably not one I'd want on repeat for long periods of time, but it's a great change the pace album. And there's not a bad track on here. 5 stars all around.

Night and day from that other Bowie album a few weeks ago. So many jams. His Across The Universe is better than the Beatles. Take my $$$

2 days in a row of tapes Dan had in his car when he was 16. I'm a big lover of Philly Soul, David Bowie, and this album. Carlos Alomar on guitar, Michael Becker on sax, Luther Vandross on backup vocals. Legends.

I am a pretty big David Bowie fan, so I am going to be given all of his albums on this list somewhere between a 4.5 and a 5. I really like this album. I love the way it sounds, the lead vocals, backing vocals, and all the instruments are all great. Young Americans and Fame are easily some of David Bowie's best songs, they are so unique and funky. I love the vocal parts of win especially the deep notes when he sings: "All you have to do is win". Fascination and Right are great funky song, and I love the bass part in Right. I also think that this version of Across the Universe is way better than the Beatles version. My only complaints are that Somebody Up There Likes Me and Can You Hear Me are kind of duds. Not a perfect 5 but it easily rounds up to one.

Fun, jammy soul record from Bowie. Love the sax parts and overall feel. Great, clean, punchy production all over this thing. “Fame” is a great tune. The album as a whole is nothing mind-blowing, but it’s a good introduction to his catalog. 4.5 rounded up to 5.

Loved!!

I am incapable of impartiality with respect to Bowie. He is one of the most gifted artists in the space and time to which I am fortunate to live in.

It's David Bowie.

I mean, it's David Bowie

A really good album from one of the greatest artist ever lived. Love it.
