Reviews (page 10 of 13)

extreme relevance. extremely controversial takes. genre breaking noise.

Weird to think that this was pretty revolutionary in its time. All the songs sound the same, but there's a certain charm and romance to them.

It’s ok I guess, if you’re in a Frank Sinatra kinda mood.

Classic

All very smooth.

GOAT. Music, and voice is iconic still today.

Didn’t expect this one. I don’t know if my 2024 brain teeming with internet overstimulation can handle lines like “picking forget-me-nots” but I will attempt to quell the encroaching brain rot and go back to a simpler time. Where men were men and women were scared. First song is a classic. It rips. Simple as. Nice love song albeit slightly weird. We should’ve left this rhyming scheme in Monterey. This little horn run in the drug song is fuckin rad, but everything else is super forgettable and middling. These are starting to bleed into each other. Is this a new song?? This album has great bass licks and cool instrumental runs all over it but man the lyrics are so dull. Brother can sing (obviously) but man possibly due to this being almost 70, sounds. A little trite. Razzle dazzle? Devil moon? Is this a three six mafia record? Man that’d be slightly better. This song is more of the same. This might not have been meant as an album experience. I prefer the version of this song in seminal 2003 Christmas romp, Elf. That’s the extent of my intellectual musical discourse. Referencing millennial children’s films. But this is a great song. Lyrically more interesting. I’m telling ya. The jazzy instrumentals are the best part of this. And also saying the Rockies and Gibraltar are going down. Classic. The hits have been delivering except in this case. This one is getting under my skin, in much the same way a parasite or even a not overused metaphor might. I almost want to just hear the bassist and flute gent just go ham on something. They rule. More sappy lyrics that make a decent song, but nothing crazy. Tears for fears mentioned. *DID FRANK SINATRA PREDICT GEARS KF WAR 6 (not clickbait) (gamers)* I don’t even know if that’s a reference. This is so close to a Christmas song. I forget which one, but the refrain has the exact same beginning. Something about mistletoe. This one is passable. I hate this term. Don’t say whoopee to me. Was this the equivalent of “WAP” in 1957? Were there tiny weird podcasters radio hosts talking about how we’ve become immoral. “He talks about men sewing, our nation has become soft.” Almost as if history keeps repeating itself. This one is pretty cool. Again though not too much is standing out as an individual track. This is a playlist quietly playing at somebody’s 80th birthday. Dude is lying to get a date. What a baller. Frankie doesn’t read books. Come on. Frankie pulled through. Old crooner music is a guilty pleasure of mine and while close to an hour of it was a little overkill, This is a musically competent, sweet set of songs held back slightly by precise table lyrics but propelled forward by excellent vocals and a cool big band backing. 2.5-3 HIGHLIGHTS: You Make Me Feel So Young, Pennies from Heaven

Frank you old charmer! Biggie could learn a thing or two from you on how to woo a woman. Anyone, if you’ve heard one Sinatra sing you’ve heard them all it would seem.

It's a great Sinatra album. It's not the best of the best, but it's got a few classics and heavy hitters. Hard to not like. The real significance of this album is that it was the first album to top the UK albums chart. Purely coincidental with its' release, but cool none the less

Schnulzig schön.

Nice enough background music. I like the strings and of course his singing voice is what marks Sinatra out as a legendary artist. A piece of history given this was the first UK #1 album! Not my usual style of music but enjoyable enough.

I love alot of the songs on here and they are hitting at the right time in my life but the wrong day. I think I can't go higher than 3 for any of these songs that are part of a compilation. Minus the American songbook which I know is on here. Also Franks cover of anything goes is bad sorry to say but the original is untouched

Excellent pipes singing about laying pipe.

I’m a little surprised how many of these songs I know. Obviously am amazing voice, although the musical style my not be my first choice.

I have a soft spot for ole’ Franky Boy! Pretty standard swing songs but FS makes ‘em sounds better somehow.

Sinatra’s good but eh not always.

-god damn my man Frank Sinatra was down bad. how many people were these songs about?? -anyway it’s a pretty solid album if not a bit boring and dated at moments. Strongly reminds me of my childhood during the holidays, I feel sophisticated listening to it -Favorites are You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me, Too Marvelous For Words, and Old Devil Moon

when i started listening it transported me to a rich new york moment, and really felt uplifted and inspired and had enjoyment of the instruments and his voice. by the 3rd song though it all blended together and i felt like it was all the same i couldn’t get passed song 6. great sounds and voice, but i would probably continue to enjoy his music song by song sporadically rather than listening to a full album in one sitting.

Didn’t finish but it was smooth ish

I don't think I would listen to this on a regular basis, but it's nice to be exposed to Sinatra and 50's swing. Puts me in a Bioshock/Fallout mood (anything goes!). 3* because not really my jam. I enjoyed how the album flowed.

Just like the other Frank album really, a few interesting songs particularly at the start, and then by the end its all an uninteresting blur of music. Fave Tracks: You Make Me Feel So Young 2.9/5

family guy

This album reminds me very much getting woken up early morning with my Dad singing these songs whilst shaving in bathroom. He loved singing in the house (which had rubbed off onto me) and listening to this album reignited some of the belters I became to know when a young lad through him. At that time of course these songs were of a different generation and far removed from the music I liked then and went onto love in later life. So they were regarded by me in the same way today’s youth would class has dad rock. As I’ve aged I become to appreciate Sinatra and his music. I will never buy or sit down to listen but no-one can doubt his talent and he was perhaps the best crooner there was. An album full of songs from a more simpler time and a big part of me wishes life could revert back there for the good of everyone. 3/5 16/9/24

Never listened to a full Sinatra album before but it's kind of what I expected. I imagine this would be unbelievable 70ish years ago but it's a bit one note. Can't deny it's good to listen to though.

the prospect of buying a Frank Sinatra album must be like deciding to buy a loaf of bread or a hammer and nails from king soopers. you always know what you're going to get: a collection of Frank Sinatra standards that more or less are sung the same, backed the same, and presented the same. i have the sneaking suspicion that 1001 Albums doesn't have Watertown or Trilogy on the list, so I don't think I'll be proven wrong. enjoy your bread, enjoy your hammer 'n nails, and enjoy your Frankie.

Hyggelig, men ligesom med Ray Charles pladerne har jeg svært ved at se på dem som et album og ikke en række random sange

You can't really hate this..

A generational voice, but this isn’t necessarily an album I’d throw on. High 3.

I listened to this after Slipknot. I don't think there is a better way to help you appreciate Sinatra and his traditional, rock solid song stylings than having Nu Metal as an opener. I'm not sure if I would have reacted as positively to this with a different opener. But life is all about timing!

They all sound the same.

I don't usually like Frank Sinatra, but I enjoyed this album. His voice was on point and the songs were fun.

Sinatra has a nice voice and I enjoyed the upbeat vibe of this album. It was a fun listen, but not a very deep album -- I think every song was about love, singing to a woman with "you" or "we". Ultimately I don't seem myself listening to this one very frequently, but I did enjoy it (probably a 3.5 for me instead of a 3).

He had a great voice but everything on this sounds the same, and I'm not sure if that's intentional or not.

Eh. They all just wanted to fuck

I don't mind a bit of Frank but it didn't really cut the mood for me yesterday

The first song just brings happy memories thinking of the movie Elf so I was immediately positive thinking listening to this album. I realized that I actually do like Frank Sinatra and his voice however I think like three songs in a row is my limit then I get a little sick of him. I do actually enjoy his music though.

I don't have too much to say about this album. It's solid, it's enjoyable, it's Sinatra. Lots of his majestic, iconic crooning going on here – but even for its time, it doesn't introduce much new to the music scene. And of course, there's the issue that every track has the same melodies, vocal ornaments, instrumentation, horn section punches, percussive beat... Even the keys and tempos used are often pretty similar. This creates an experience which is a bit hazy and not particularly cohesive. I honestly couldn't tell you which tracks I liked more than others, because I enjoyed them all very much equally. For all my gripes, though, this is pretty good. It gives me some misplaced nostalgia for 40s and 50s swing-pop (I'm a 2000s kid), and comes with all the perks of the era – most noticeably, the fuzzy production you associate with gramaphones and your grandparents slow-dancing in the living room on Christmas Day. Sinatra's voice is familiar, smooth, lilting – like a warm hug. I dig it. 3/5 Key tracks: unsure

When I first so this come up today, I groaned internally. My impression of Frank Sinatra is that I'm too young for this; hilarious, I know. The first track was instantly recognizable, because its been in every other romcom flick, as were others in the album. I recognize how influential this album is, and I didn't mind it, but its definitely not something I would ever choose to listen to.

Vale, que sí, Frank, que cantas muy bien.

Ah, Frank. Sinatra has this strange effect on me, I always feel better and smile when I listen to him. Back when I was younger and was the assistant manager at a store I made a deal with the manager. We alternated Sundays, she worked one I worked the other. I bet her that if we played more upbeat music rather the classical music she wanted played sales would be better. I’m an unscientific study I can tel you that Sinatra Sundays with a Marley Afternoon won handily. There’s just something about that swing.

I wish I could live this more but it did get very sandy after a few songs

Ah, yes. 15 songs about love and dancing and music and love and holding hands and women and kissing and love and smiling and bliss and walks in the park and love and.... We get it. You like love. And it's all sung to us with a very textbook-definition-of-singing voice. But it is relaxing.

Fun, familiar classic Sinatra songs

Cute kitchen music Last few songs could’ve seen themselves out

This is not necessarily my kind of music, but this was a fun overall listen. The only thing that holds it back to me, is there's not a single song that really stands above the rest, and I am unlikely to return to this album and listen again.

Amazing voice but all the so ga are kind of the same

Very easy listen

He was a talent in his time. Does nothing for me

I'm sure this one had plenty of fans back in my Mom's day. From back in the time when they'd bring an entire 100 piece orchestra into the studio and simultaneously record all the music at the same time. The Chairman of The Board. I can't diss it, it's just not for me.

I guess we had to get a Sinatra album eventually. I didn't hate it, it has a definite charm to it- but I'm sure glad this isn't where popular music peaked.

Not the best Frank album out there but still good

Inoffensive

Very enjoyable but a little repetitive.

Cool to hear a great singer with orchestral backing. Different times. Not my favorite batch of his songs, but cool title.

Classic, but barely holding onto a place in this list.

Not my genre, but quite okay

3 cool orchestra just not big on crooning

If you’re in the mood for some kinda schmaltzy mid-century vocal pop, nothing hits quite like Sinatra. That being said, the songs are not always that great. Or if it is a great song, someone else has done it better. Anyway, I’m more of a September of My Years type of guy.

carino, non me lo aspettavo, mi fa venire voglia di guardare i corti di topolino di quegli anni

Love the bass & drums, don't love the strings. It's fine.

Another blast from my teenage years, though it hasn't aged as well as I thought it would.

Fun but really repetitive. Sinatra got no range

It's definitely Frank Sinatra, can't argue with that

Pleasant, poppy, but not my thing.

That’s the good stuff when it comes to Frank. Much more engaging than the previous one we got

I think it is funny that this album predates the alternate definition of "swinging" LOL. I liked the more upbeat feel of this album compared to the other one of his we listened to. This was more enjoyable than I was expecting, although he did manage to create the most boring version of "Anything Goes" I've ever heard.

I could appreciate these up-tempo songs a lot more than the slow-paced ones on the wee small hours.

Standards, vocal jazz. A romantic, upbeat, playful group of songs. Unfortunately not too many of them really grabbed my interest. 3/5

I liked the individual songs, but they all had a very similar sound and theme. They are kind of vague in their descriptions of love and felt a little more nostalgic than truly emotional. That being said the album is super nice on the ears and very optimistic.

It’s just not something I’m going to listen to a whole lot, but goddamn is Frank good. Some of these are just miraculous. Will never not love “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”. 3.5/5

I'm guessing this is considered a classic, but the songs all sound the same after a few of them.

Never heard the album but have heard many of the songs. On the best if these songs, Sinatra's smooth effortless singing goes counterplay with the orchestra and creates some classics. I expected an album full of those moments but some songs feel uninspired. In particular the classic Anything Goes sounds tepid here.

Classic swing and very easy to listen to but not really my home turf. Not one I've minded listening to but not really one I'll put on rotation.

FAVO: You make me feel so young, You're getting to be a habit with me, I've got you under my skin

Enjoyable and easy to listen to, but a bit much as a whole album (all the songs are very similar, and it starts to get old). There’s something about Sinatra I can’t pin down that rubs me the wrong way, but still, I was tapping my foot along and generally having a good time with this. Probably somewhere between 3~3.5.

Fun. Fine

Pleasant but dull

You can't walk down a city street to this. You'll just want to start a dance or a spin on a lamppost. All of these songs have such a similar feeling that it almost feels like one song that plays forever. Good thing is it works and has a great sound. The legacy stuff wants me to rate this higher but what I'm hearing is my vote.

Feels like a plain old deck of cards. You could just shuffle it up and it doesn't matter and you never get dealt a winning hand just a nice high card. Has lost something by being so woven into the fabric of this reality. It's like grass on a front lawn. Such a 2.5.

I love this guy, but he has a talent for making his songs sound 98% the same

Ok, just not my thing

It felt like a collection of unrelated singles, no real through line. Sinatra's vocals get repetitive. Some standouts.

I repeat my previous views on Sinatra. Fantastic voice that is so bland. It's technically proficient but it doesn't make me feel anything.

Classic Sinatra

Franks voice is always good to hear. All songs are same tone and tempo but they are somewhat special in a way. I dont feel thos works as an album cause there are 15 songs and they are basically the same but since one is good all others are good as well. It just gets a bit boring and repetitive after the 5th songs. Still Sinatra has a great soothing voice and a great delivery.

Sinatra is tough to call anything but dated, but it's certainly not bad, by no means my favorite. Better background music than active listening.

Better than I expected

I can understand the appeal of this album but it just started getting boring in the end.

I mean its Sinatra, but I won't be seeking it out.

Suffers a bit with the problem a lot of these old swing, jazz or whatever albums suffer of sticking very much to a formula. Still, nice songs and I listened to one half and came back to it later for the other with renewed enthusiasm. 3.5/5.

It's great stuff, just has a bit of a dated sound

Good album. Solid Frank. Not his big hits, but I always like a little Sinatra.

The WW2 boomers had to be going crazy for this shit. Did Frank put out an album every single year? Favorite song: You make me feel so young. 3.8/5 is a good benchmark to start with

It’s Sinatra. It’s not my thing. It will be lots of people’s thing, but not mine. I’m not ashamed to admit I didn’t listen to it, but to recompense my refusal to saturate my ears with this gloop I’ve averaged it as a rating.

7/10 This is exactly what you think it’ll be, Frank singing a load of crooner songs well Excellent voice obvs Feels like they spent a week putting together some excellent orchestration, then Frank came in and banged out all the songs in a day Doesn’t feel super heartfelt Maybe too many songs or not enough variation, felt a little samey by the end But good Best: Anything Goes

Love the underlying big band aesthetic and was interested for the first couple songs. But something about the cheesiness of lyrics and cliche of his voice had be tuning out after a few tunes. 6.5 / 10

A smooth voice and great arrangements make for easy listening but it starts to outstay its welcome after a bit.

Iconic for what it is but not really of interest to me. I prefer smaller groups of musicians with more room to express themselves than this kind of minutely arranged, large ensemble gloss. I'd rather listen to Frank's detours w jazz musicians such as his stuff w Count Basie Big Band than his mainstream pop music like this.

This kind of feels like the album that set the standard for generations of younger troubadours like Harry Connick Jr and Michael Buble. I've never been a huge Sinatra afficionado, and not really a huge fan of this kind of swing-style music, but it's hard to criticize the artist or album too much. A solid collection of pop standards.

Not a huge Sinatra fan--he never sounds quite as loose as I think he wants to sound. Still, can't complain--he's working it here. But the orchestra is fabulous. I wish the whole album was just them riffing off these standards. Feels like Sinatra's reigning them in.

the eminem or elvis of jazz, except i'm happier listening to sinatra than either of those two for a full album. the ultimate wife guy album. i liked it.

I feel like I'm taken back in time to a live music bar in the 50s

Classic voice and tunes, but never going to be my go-to style.

Well, Frank can sing, no doubt about that. And there are some classic songs on here. But they all start to blend into one another a bit. I do like the rhyme "my indiscreet heart, how it longs for that sweetheart" though.

You Make Me Feel So Young 3 It Happened in Monterey 3.1 You're Getting to Be a Habit with Me 3.4 You Bought a New Kind of Love to Me 3.2 Too Marvelous for Words 3 Old Devil Moon 3 Pennies from Heaven 3.1 Love is Here to Stay 2.9 I've Got You Under My Skin 2.8 I Thought About You 2.7 We'll Be Together Again 2.5 Makin' Whoopee 3 Swingin' Down the Lane 2.8 Anything Goes 3.5 How About You? 3.3 Score: 3.02

Low 3 Every song sounds the same. However it's a nice enough sound that it isn't a problem. No stand out songs.

1. feel zo young - 3 2. monterrey - 1.5 3. habit uuith me - 1.5 4. love to me - 1.5 5. marvelouz - 2 6. devil moon - 2 7. penniez - 2.5 8. ztay - 3 9. my zkin - 3.5 10. about you - 2 11. together again - 1.5 12. uuhopee - 2 13. the lane - 1.5 14. anything - 1 15. houu about you - 1

First off, what a voice. The album did sound more generic to me like what I would think a generic Frank Sinatra album is. It’s harder to distinguish songs from each other. Nothing in particular stood out but it was nice to listen to. The album cover is a bit funny to me also.

Makes me want to have a cocktail party.

not as good as his other albums. just average

He's fine. A strong voice if not a remarkable one. Clear notes with only a hint of emotion.

I was ready to hate this, but actually wasn't as bad as expected. I still have no interest in turning this on, but if it were on I wouldn't be bothered. 2.5/5

Not bad, for some reason listening to Frank doesn't get old for me. It's just really safe music that is easy to listen to and doesn't really take any risks.

A fun wholesome journey of love and hope. I enjoy the playful tumbling use of rhythm that occasionally crops up in swing at the end of a line.

Probably my favorite Sinatra album but that’s not saying much because I’m not a big fan. I appreciate what Songs for Swingin’ Lovers and other Sinatra albums did to embrace and elevate the album format, but the slow crooning vocal jazz just doesn’t really appeal to me. I much prefer either a more upbeat style of vocal jazz like how Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald often sing, or a slower more deliberate style of Billie Holiday or Nina Simone. Sinatra’s vocal style is also so often imitated or parodied to the point where he just doesn’t sound particularly unique. At the time of release, I know he was, but to modern ears he just doesn’t stand out.

Every song sounds the same to me.

Blind album, know the artist and the hits. Good overall but not a go to. Middle of the range for this project for me

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Very good songwriting and clever turns of phrase delivered in a compact structure that doesn't drag on. The style isn't my favorite but no songs were long enough for me to get annoyed by them.

the song from elf??? strong christmas vibes.

I respect Frank Sinatra, but I really did not care for anything on this album which is a damn shame.

Does "swingin' lovers" mean the same thing in Frank's year as it does in our present one? I know the man was arrested for seduction when he was a young 20-something hound dog, so it's not entirely unfathomable to me... oh, okay. Yeah, this is some square ass shit. He does have a very distinct and remarkable voice though. I get why it was considered a "panty-dropper" for all the gals back then. But it's just so very dated to my ears. Split the difference and call it a 3 I guess.

Sounds like a collection of show tunes. Great concept but old blue eyes had so many better ablums.

This is a mixed bag for me. It's a collection of standards, performed in Frank's signature style, that defines the term "easy listening". But while it's easy to take in in small doses, I got a little tired of it halfway through the 45 minute runtime. A song like his rendition of "Pennies from Heaven" is downright boring next to Louis Prima's classic version. I don't want to diss such a classic record, but crooners wear on me after a while, as each track features the same instrumentation and follows a similar musical formula, making it hard to differentiate between numbers. Nice to hear the classics here, like "You Make Me Feel So Young" and "I've Got You Under My Skin", but I think a third of this record could have been lopped off, and it wouldn't have suffered for it.

Lovely voice, standard swing music. Felt criminal to give this less than a 3 but not usually my cup of tea

Nice background music to work to

Mostly really enjoyable in that it made me feel like I was wearing a suit in a fancy 50s hotel, then he sang an entire song about "Makin' Whoopee" which is the worst euphemism on the planet, and the most Conservative "don't kids suck" song back to back and ruined it.

Great upbeat songs for background music. All sounds the same

All the songs sound the same

Frank Sinatra is obviously one of the greats, but as I have heard all of the hits from this album ad nauseum it's kind of old to me at this point. Still recognize it's greatness, just not my favorite or something I'll seek out. 3/5

Frank's in perfect swinging pop form here. Bright and breezy standards, played sung and orchestrated to a tee. I prefer Sinatra when he's gloomy, this kind of stuff is just too corny for me. I imagine this was a breath of fressh air after 'The wee small hours'. Great but not for me.

Nothing wrong with this, lovely voice of course, great trumpets and keys. I enjoyed it, but had lost a little interest by the end. Frank is one of my mum's favourites, and this would have been released in between her getting married and having her first baby (my big brother) so I enjoyed speculating about her life then.

One of the most wonderful singing voices. A relaxing listen .

Ugh. I mean he's good but I can't handle anymore Sinatra in my life right now

a classic for sure but not my thing

I'm not sure what it is with Sinatra and me. Is he overplayed? Is he overhyped? Do I only hear him in movies and weddings? I digress. He's fine. It's fine. I don't "get" Sinatra, I didn't shake his hand, I'm uncultured, whatever. He does make me want to play Fallout again, so props, I guess? Favorite Tracks: Half of them, but the other half don't offend me.

An entire album about "making whoopee," but in the most classy way. That's Frank Sinatra in a nutshell. I reckon we can all relate to that!

Song for Swingin' Lovers is widely regarded as one of Sinatra's landmark achievements, and rightfully so. This album not only showcases Sinatra's exceptional vocal talents but also highlights the masterful arrangements by Nelson Riddle, which led Sinatra to describe him as the greatest arranger in the world. The album exudes a theme of enjoying life to the fullest, with each track delivering a sense of joy and exuberance. Its historical significance is undeniable, as it was the first album ever to top the UK Albums Chart, solidifying Sinatra's international appeal. The music is undeniably beautiful and light, with Riddle's arrangements perfectly complementing Sinatra's smooth vocals. Although I did find certain tracks to be a bit repetitive, Song for Swingin' Lovers still stands as a timeless classic. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 3 STAND OUT TRACK - I've Got You Under My Skin

It was very nice. I enjoyed very much. Perhaps not to listen to on a daily basis but I thought it was a nice bit if background 'comfort music'. I will probably listen again one day. Maybe not in the next couple of years, but one day. Generally, I'm quite a fan of Frank Sinatra. I definitely prefer his love songs to modern day 'love songs' (mainly seeing as they're not wildly misogynistic and only about using people for their bodies and generally a much less sexually explicit listen). Of course, there was plenty of misogyny back in the day, but at least it wasn't so brazenly flaunted in the top 40. Overall I'd say it's a 3.5 star although I can only give it 3 stars as I rated Nevermind 4 stars and that would be a wild miscarriage of justice.

Dean Martin all the way for me. This is the stuff I grew up listening too with my grandfather. It's ok but dean was better.

Sinatra es Sinatra

#182. I'm sure some boomers or other such oldies might tell you that this album is the bee's whole-ass knee, but I am neither an orthopedic physician nor an apiarist, so I could not confirm nor deny such rumors. 3/5: perfect for a Fallout soundtrack, but perhaps too outdated for anything else these days.

Frank Sinatra can't be denied, but I don't see any particular albums from him to be all the important. It seems to me that a "greatest hits" compilation of Sinatra might be more appropriate to the list.

Finners Tench in his element

Gives me mad men vibes. Finlay Tench’s favourite artist so he’s a goat for that alone. 3/5

3.5 Its Frank Sinatra, he's got a nice voice with some songs that everyone knows. He’s like Ed Sheeran in a way, expect he’s not a sell-out ginger fuck who isnt ugly as shit and frok Ipswich

Classic Frank Sinatra! There is always a good time to listen to a classical album like this 3.5/5

C'est du Frank Sinatra, très uni-dimensionel. Bien fait mais très redondant d'une pièce à l'autre. 6/10

It's old blue eyes. My Italian-American roommate in college listened the hell out of these records.

It sort of all blended together at some points, but music like this feels like getting into a warm bath. It's lush and enjoyable and not too intellectual. And, of course, Sinatra has a great voice. But I probably won't revisit in full. Highlights: You Make Me Feel So Young, You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me, I've Got You Under My Skin, Anything Goes

Klassiker, aber nicht meins

It all sounds the same, but it is the best of breed sameyness. Not sure I'd ever consciously decide to listen to this kind of thing - and Tony Bennett had more swing.

Objectively, good, I suppose, but not something I would listen to for my own enjoyment.

It starts with a certified banger and then just keeps going with songs that aren't as good and all mesh together and then suddenly BOOM Anything Goes. Favourite track: You Make Me Feel so Young.

Gotta love Frank Sinatra. Enjoyable listen all the way through but gets a little slow in the middle. I was right on the edge of rating it a 4 but I simply don't think I'd re-listen to the album again. I'll listen to certain songs but not the whole album all the way through, and I think that makes it a 3. 7/10 (3.5/5)

Hauska nimi. Hauskoja sanoja, riimit.

Artisti yksinkertaisesti voittaa kuulijan puolelleen.

Straight up, I listened to this album maybe 3 or 4 times back to back because I couldn’t tell the songs apart. I still can’t; they all sound the same. Luckily for me, I like the big band sound that Sinatra has, but it’s gotta be one of the more unmemorable Frank Sinatra albums. Favorite track: It Happened in Monterey

I didn’t save my initial review. Sinatra js a quality singer with a good band, which makes this release entertaining enough. But the songs sound similar and the album drags a bit for me. A couple of classic songs but not doing anything special for me

Gran saxo. Genial voz y baterías.

America’s OG vocalist everyone. These are some of his all time greatest hits still heard all over the world. Gotta love a classic.

Basically a nice album. But somehow the songs flow by and don't leave so much behind. It is simply to smooth, nothing unexpected, nothing exciting.

Classic crooner album. Gets a bit repetitive and hard to distinguish between songs, but still a good listen. 3/5 Might listen again

Great voice, but not really my style.

You can't argue with how cool and catchy the songs are, but you can argue with how much they sound like each other. A pleasant album that suffers from a lack of dynamics.

Not really my kind of music, but there are a couple of classics on this album.

I was a teenager in the 90s and I lived through the swing revival. Yeah, I saw Brian Setzer in concert. I saw the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies at the Cleveland Rib Fest. I saw the movie Swingers enough times to quote most of it. I minored in Theatre in college. I have an appreciation for this music. And yet, I don’t think I would ever purposefully put it on to listen to. Charming and pleasant. And not particularly diverse. And probably the only time I will deliberately listen to Old Blue Eyes this year.

Classic Sinatra, hard to go wrong.

Very mellow, tasteful, accomplished and boring.

סינטרה סוחף אותך עם שירים שמחזירים אותך איתו אחורה בזמן

It's odd how much I enjoy showtunes and crooner style standards when in person, but could completely do without them as listening pleasure. This is lovely background music, but Sinatra's style doesn't grab me. Some amazing orchestrations here, though!

Maybe I have suddenly grown to dislike Frank Sinatra but this felt really mid. I feel he could dig up any random classics, sing over them at first look and make it an album. Maybe that is distasteful but feels true.

Before listening: You'll definitely run into a Frank Sinatra song growing up in America and I'm no exception. I've never actually sat down and listened to a whole Sinatra album all the way through though and hope this one delivers. I only recognize a few songs on here so wondering why this album in particular was the one chosen. Heard of "Anything Goes". Also laughed at the song title "Makin' Whoopee". After listening: It's a nice chill Sinatra album I guess, I listened to it while working and had an alright time. If you like Sinatra and crooners then you'll have a great time listening to these oldies, if you don't or are neutral then it's...fine. They kind of blurred together after a while but funnily enough the only song that was stuck in my head after finishing the album was "Makin' Whoopee".

Ole Frankie Blue Eyes wasn’t too bad! No saves from the album but would revisit

Not expecting much from this one, as I'm not that into Sinatra. Optimistically starting at 3 stars.

Know the artist and a couple of songs looks familiar. Good vibes but not massively my thing. Low 3.

favourite song: anything goes pretty good, all the songs do sorta sound the same tho

A very solid Sinatra Album Best Song: I've Got You Under My Skin Worst Song: N/A

I wanted to like this one more than I actually did. I enjoyed Franks voice and from the Swing that I've heard in the past I have mostly liked it. But it was a little slow and a few too many love songs for me.

Nice, easy to listen to. I’m not the biggest fan of Sinatra or of the crooner style of music. But this is a fine example of the form. It is melodic, but otherwise not very interesting musically.

Nette Songs. Sinatras Stimme ist mir manchmal zu selbstzufrieden perlend, irgendwie nicht wirklich angenehm.

I have to mention that Frank Sinatra's talent and passion on this record are undeniable. but I feel like the songs on the album all sound very similar. Each individual song was quite good but a lot of the album felt redundant, even on the second listen.

swingin' classic pop from sinatra. instrumentation is glitzy and glamorous, his voice sparkles like wine, and it's the ideal music for that time period when out and about, taking your partner by the hand and dancing in the moonlight. however, as with many albums around this era, there's a lot of tracks that are just... samey. it's nice sure but ol' hipster me wants variety. gimme a decent menu to peruse.

I'm sure as far as crooner albums go...this one takes the cake. Just another reason for making whoopie, lyrics ahead of their time for sure!❤️😂✌️

Francis oh Francis……..

Frank's got a thing and he sticks with it. Thankfully that style is enjoyable, but he doesn't really switch it up too often. Borderline 4 but gets a 3 because it wasn't interesting enough.

Frank is part of my childhood growing up with my father who played him often and many others. He brings a smile to my 94 yo mother, who is suffering dementia…. but she knows the music. These are not my favourite FS songs or arrangements…. but it is Frank… he has the smoothest voice and he clearly impacted my whole family…. 3 1/2 ⭐️

Sinatra is a guy I never listen to but is clearly quite skilled.

Frankie in den 50ern: swinging!

Meh. Wasn't bad. But didn't care too much for it.

Easy listening

Best songs to my ears: Love is Here to stay, you brought a new kind of love to me, how about you? Ones I knew that are still good: you make me feel so young, I've got you under my skin (5+), makin' whoopee

Generally fine but making whoopee is a very dumb bad song

Ngl I would love to swing with my lover to this. Funniest album cover so far as well like why is Frank looking upon the swingin’ lovers like God and why does the girl have a mullet

I know all the popular frank songs, but never really dug into his albums. Pretty smooth album but i did get a little bored by the end. I just imagine being alive when this dropped and having the album run all the way through in a pool bar while smoking a million cigarettes and that sounds amazing to me.

This is my second of the two Frank Sinatra albums to review, and just like In the Wee Small Hours, I thought this was fine. Frank Sinatra is a great singer and entertainer, and the orchestra that backs him up is great as well. The arrangements are really well done, and I liked that all of the songs went really well with the name of the album. Overall, this is a pretty good album, but I think I'd rather listen to In the Wee Small Hours if I were in the mood for some Sinatra.

Old blue eyes, Mr mafia denier. You sir, are most definitely better than Moby. Its a very nice record, not thought provoking in the slightest but i guess it doesn't have to be. And who doesn't like makin' whoopie.

Much better than I expected. That guy can really really sing.

I get why to certain people Frank Sinatra is the epitome of cool. His generally smooth but also strong voice play so well, against the backing band, where the horns can strike like lightning. The song Anything Goes makes me think, one like at Cardi B would have given Frank a stroke. Would listen to some songs again

What can I say, it's Frank Sinatra. Songs that typically sound the same but are generally good enough to listen to. Not one I'd return to but I can see why this guy was slightly known.

Really enjoyed this especially since I was just chillin when I went to listen.

Definitely had a great voice. Brass instrumentation on the tracks was nice.

It was an enjoyable album, although not my prefered genre. No song really stuck out, but overall a solid album.

It’s was good music. I just found that the music sounded very samy after 5 songs.

Good but repetitive.

Sehr gute Musik.

I have a soft spot for this era of music. And I frequently listen to similar artists as such. I'm not entirely sure if these are Sinatra originals, as I know the music in the age gets passed around and everyone has their own version of the songs. Perhaps that's due to them not writing their own music. They're more the voice to the songs; they bring life to the words. I've Got You Under My Skin and Anything Goes are my two favourite from this record. Notable song: Makin' Whoopee. Which is an awful song... Haha. It's more hilarious than awful as it's definitely dated. This album is basically all romantic esque songs, hence the albums title. It was a good listen. Not a perfect batch of songs but I didn't dread the whole album.

Old people who complain that new music all sounds the same should listen to this album. People would laugh at the schmaltzy, simplistic lyrics if they weren’t sung by Frank Sinatra. The songs that are hits are obviously hits for a reason. “Anything Goes” and “You make me feel so young” are great and catchy. My disappointment in this album is due to how boring most of the songs are. Like if Sondheim made crooning music. Meh.

Nice and pleasant, with very nice arrangements. Even if I couldn’t avoid noting my general inability to tell one song from the other, I enjoyed listening. And I will also admit to having a soft spot for Sinatra’s voice.

His music has become a parody of itself in 2024. Clips and full songs have been so overused in media, films and other sources that the songs seem to blend together and seep into the next song played. He was from my mother's generation and I am sure when the music was new and just released that it made the girls swoon and faint. in 2024 I can appreciate his music and his place in musical and film history. Making whoopy was SCANDELOUS!

I like his voice. Nice background music.

Great, classic album. Brings back memories of many movie soundtracks!

It's fine music done by a great singer. Great for throwing on at an Italian dinner party, but not my typical daily listen. I respect the Sinatra lore and he's one of the greats, so I can't go lower than a 3.

It starts off really strong but just kinda fizzles. Can't say I really remember anything other than You Make Me Feel So Young and I've Got You Under My Skin.

Fairly pleasant and relaxing listen, Frank had a lovely voice. Though a lot of the tracks are very similar and it gets a little boring

This isn’t really my sort of thing but it would be perfectly fine music if it was yours. Listens: 2 Fave Track: Anything Goes Rating: 3

I don’t wanna hear “do whoppie” or “silly billyboo” in a song

Vale, que sí, Frank, que cantas muy bien.

I think I'd listen to this again, it sounded very nostalgic.

Most songs are mixed for the voice and the double bass to be the main focus. That made me think it's the equivalent of a 808 hip hop from the swing era. The album is okay

Zaddyyyy

Vale, que sí, Frank, que cantas muy bien.

Good vibes, at least. A bit samey.

It's really cool that the game series Fallout gives these lesser known artists some exposure.

Swinging standards

I don’t get Sinatra. I understand his influence but I just don’t get it. Solidly meh.

Not a big Sinatra fan, seems most albums have one song. But this was better than the first album I got from him by a lot.

A mood album. Old Blue Eyes can sing the classics like no other. But since I'm not in love or an old Bobby Soxer, it didn't wow me. Still, I understand its place and I'd be open to listening to it again.

I like frank Sinatra... but it's a lot of the same.

Frankie boy! What a gem

Decent

Not an album I would buy but pleasant to listen, couple of very good tracks

Love a bit of Frank, but tbh he wasn’t my favourite of the Rat Pack. A classic offering here.

Ok, best goed, maar niet echt vernieuwend.

3.5 What is it about this kind of music that feels like Christmastime? It was the first thing I thought of when I put this on, and if you were to visit The Grove in Hollywood or various other shopping malls around this time of year, you’d likely hear similar music as well. Maybe it’s just because many of the classic Christmas tunes were recorded in this era, but there’s also just something so relaxing and home-y feeling about Frank Sinatra’s music, despite the name of this album indicating other intentions (That being dancing - the Wikipedia article clears up that Frank isn’t encouraging partner-swapping here). There’s nothing but good vibes across this record, though not a lot of specific songs stood out in particular. I’ve Got You Under My Skin was probably my favorite, but I think a large part of that has to do with how weirdly nostalgic it felt - it’s definitely floated around my life at some point or another. I was excited to hear his take on Anything Goes but found myself kind of disappointed with that one - it just felt too low energy and underwhelming compared to other renditions. Still, it’s not bad, nor is anything else here, though I was a little sucked out of my Christmas-y spirit when I had to hear Ol’ Blue Eyes sing about “Makin’ Whoopee”. I think I could go without ever hearing or thinking about that one again. Never a bad time with Sinatra - really don’t know how anyone could hate this. Admittedly, he’s an artist I usually have to be in a particular mood to put on, but when I am, an album like this could definitely be closer to the 4 territory for me.

music for swapping partners

1st listen 2.5/5

It’s Frank, just way too dated for my liking

Some good tunes, and Frank's voice is great as always. Not a great fan of just love songs.

This is the first time I've ever actually sat down and listened to a Frank Sinatra album. Of course I've heard Sinatra before but never a full album. I agree with what a few other people have said here, a full album of crooning is a little too much and they start to blend together. I also discovered that I prefer the covers of Sinatras famous songs such as "You Make Me Feel So Young" and "Makin' Whopee" over the originals. All in all this feels like a 3 out of 5 album to me.

Decent old school music.

Enjoyable enough listen, but most of the tracks kind of blended together in an inoffensive easy listening mix. Best track: You Make Me Feel So Young Worst track: Makin’ Whoopee (bc …. what the fuck are those lyrics)

Makes me wish I had wider cut trousers, had a Marlboro permanently glued to my lip, sipping bourbon whilst complaining about "dames". Evocative of an era for sure, but a whole album of crooning is a lot. Like it, not sure I LOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE it

It is a Frank Sinatra album. Exactly what you expect from him except he sings mostly swing songs on this album. Obviously pretty good with great vocals but not particularly interesting to talk about. He has some of my favorite of his songs on this one like "You Make Me Feel So Young", "It Happened In Monterey", "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "Love Is Here To Stay" but any album that has this little variation in sound throughout it just becomes a slog once you get to around the 30 minute mark. That may largely be due to the era that this album came from because a lot of basic pop albums from the '50s and '60s did not stray far from the basic formula of the album. That being said still a good album but not one that I would come back to as a whole body of work. 7-7.5/10.

One trick pony

She molar songs but overall jazzy

Nothing but respect to Frank, but this one can be boring to just sit and listen to. I think he has better music.

Sinatra's exactly as slick as usual, and the precision is what comes through more than anything, even through remastering efforts. Happy songcraft is the kind of thing you want to hear Frank turning, anyway; There's just a hint of inhumanity in the rhyme and separation of vocal from all else.

My main experience with Frank Sinatra before listening to this album is through Family Guy. The lounge-style has never really appealed much to me, except maybe some covers by Richard Cheese. I saw a reviewer say that they couldn’t tell where one song ended and another began. About halfway through the album and I agree. Certainly not bad, but they’re all very samey.

Good voice, but gets tiring after a while.

Easy listening, some well known songs on this album. They're all basically romance songs and have similar music styles. Old Devil Moon is probably my favorite from the album.

its Frank, ok if you like that sort of thing

Decent enough. Thanks Sinatra.

Tsja prima, Frank luistert relaxt weg

Good album from Frank Sinatra featuring one of my favorite songs: "Anything Goes". A traditional pop singing from Sinatra with jazz.

Meh, a classic but not my thing

first artist whose name i recognize (but honestly such a big name that who wouldn't). based on the album art that this site provides i'm listening to the 1956 version, not the 1998 remaster, and all the vinyl sounds that comes with the digitalization track 1, You Make Me Feel So Young track 2: It Happened In Monterey track 3: You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me it was at this point i realized i'd hard zoned out and did not notice the track switching other than the bpm of the song changing, these really all sound the same to me (most songs i hear from around this time period do) so for this album i'm dropping the by-track commentary and going by blocks when thoughts come to me track 4, You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me track 5, Too Marvelous For Words track 6: Old Devil Moon none of these songs on this album are BAD. by all rights they're perfectly enjoyable. it's just singing over a medium-slow older jazzish orchestration and i've already missed a song while i was typing this, track 7: Pennies From Heaven track 8: Love Is Here To Stay sinatra sings a lot about love in this album, or loving someone, or being physical with them, etc. maybe this album is just all love songs! maybe he was singing about someone, or someones, that he loved. SIDE 2 track 9: I've Got You Under My Skin this one's more upbeat at least, the past few have been SUPER slow and man if a song is too slow it just kinda makes my skin itch. really funny for this track name too okay yeah the album is literally called "songs for swinging lovers" i don't know what i expected when i described these songs as love songs ahahaha track 10: I Thought About You i can't imagine listening to these songs in any other context than slow dancing with your significant other. swaying gently in the living room holding them gently while little baby uh. hold on i've gotta google something track 11: We'll Be Together Again okay the most popular baby names of the 1950s were james, michael, and robert. so yeah, swaying gently while little baby jimmy was in the other room sleeping sound in his crib, not knowing that his parents were getting up to the naughty business of- track 12: Makin' Whoopee well not THAT, certainly. this song goes from nervousness before a wedding to the husband doing household chores and prepping for a child. how is this a song for swinging lovers? maybe if they were rocking gently in bed lmao it's okay, frank, you just just call it sex. track 13: Swingin' Down The Lane i'm actually kind of feeling this one, i like the light bells and how they make me think of a starry sky. the light pollution had to have been so much lower when this album came out, back when taking your date to the top of a cliff to sit on the hood of your car and stargaze was actually feasible while you lived within an hour of a major city. putting your hand down just an inch too close to theirs so your pinkies cross, stealing a glance at each other, and enjoying the evening track 14: Anything Goes oh i actually recognize this one, or maybe i've heard a cover of it before. imagine how different things are now than they were in the 50s, geez. "a glimpse of a stock was shocking but now anything goes" and we've got short-shorts and low-cut tops and the like. the song does close with somewhat of an embrace of the phrase "anything goes", accepting things are different (and better?) than they used to be track 15: How About You new york in june is HOT, frank. it's SO hot. i'm melting thinking about it. i suppose when the backing tracks are all very same-y, all that's left to talk about are the words (and the vibes, but that's 24/7 here). i couldn't say for sure whether mr. sinatra chose everything he sung about, that's not the wikipedia deep dive i'd like to have tonight, but i'd say at least 75% of this album is pretty good to slow-dance to. not sure how easy it is to skip tracks on a vinyl. i came out of this album feeling better than i did going into it, though, so that's points in its favor. i'd say somewhere between a 5 and a 6 out of 10.

Classic '50's Frank, with everything you would want and expect from an album of his.

Felt pretty magical and classic, should listen again

Down the middle Sinatra. Good to great

Not my favorite Frank recording. Hadn’t really paid attention to the glockenspiel during the introduction and first verse of “Anything Goes”. That’s some tough timing. Riddle’s orchestration is impeccable. Fun songs, well performed, masterful musicianship’s, but somehow feels pedestrian. Prefer Sinatra’s concept albums.

What I expected. Not bad but not sure it’s the pinnacle of his career.

Jest dobry... ale nie dla mnie! Sinatra kojarzy mi się głównie z świętami i nie potrafiłem wyprzeć tego odczucia podczas słuchania.

3/5, I love frank sinatra and some of his top hits are in this album, but I’m also not the biggest jazz fan, which knocks this down a point

Great voice, lush instrumentation, some interesting drug references. Still... Gets a bit schmaltzy after a bit.

Lightweight material

Really smooth, very enjoyable. I may or may not listen to this again.

Absolute classic. Such a delightful listen.

Once you blow the dust off, Songs For Swingin' Lovers! is a tight collection of songs built around the theme of romance, if not love. It's a classic, unimpeachable sound, but once the veil of nostalgia is pulled back, the album isn't as exciting as its suggestive lyrics may have been back in the day. The songs blur together despite their intricate composition and layered production, largely because this record's choice for an album "concept" wasn't as novel as the moody blues (indigos?) of In The Wee Small Hours. Sinatra's easy-but-never-sleazy vocals and the lush backing band are pleasant but don't elevate this to a level far beyond background music or historical document. Standouts: Each side's opening tracks, "You Make Me Feel So Young" and "I've Got You Under My Skin," deserve their icon status. Sleepers: "You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me" almost becomes a lull in the album's conversation until it swells into a more thrilling version of itself halfway through. Stinkers: "Makin' Whoopee" isn't cute. It's vulgar for the era and cringe today. three out of four pennies from heaven

Dude has an absolutely buttery voice, but most of the music doesn't do so much for me. It's fine, just not really my thing. Probably call this is a 3 leaning 3.5.

Pleasant. Sinatra is pretty douchey tho

No great songs, but Sinatra nonetheless

Good album but he has better projects.

It’s a Sinatra record with Swingin’ in the title, so you know what to expect - and it’s not bad. Songs For Swingin’ Lovers just doesn’t do the same for me as some of his other great recordings. Maybe the orchestration is a bit too predictable? Or maybe the choice of songs just aren’t as varied?

Always interesting to hear old music!

Classic crooner-style album by a man who embodies the genre. Not my favourite style of music, but decent enough to listen to nonetheless.

All Sinatra is Christmas vibes

Good swinging

it's Sinatra

Always love Sinatra. Decent one from him.

A bit boring, with some pleasant orchestration. Some lyrical content I didn’t really care for, but to be expected from Frank. 2.7

Smooth, almost too smooth, but I didn't mind it

Beetje langzaam maar ik heb wel voor het eerst IJ me leven met plezier naar Frank Sinatra geluisterd

decent

It's fine. A few standouts but mostly boring for me.

- Frankie is unmatched - Pretty standard stuff, good background dinner music

This might be one of the first albums in this genre that I didn’t at least think was generally fun and pleasant. Idk how many of these songs were covers but most of the tracks on this album have been far surpassed by other versions, leaving behind a pretty generic sounding 50s jazz album. It might be a “the cliche came from somewhere” thing but honestly wasn’t impressed especially compared to the much more raw and unique in the wee small hours album.

"Songs for Swingin' Lovers!" by Frank Sinatra is a timeless classic that captures the essence of the golden era of crooning. Released in 1956, it's a dazzling collection of songs that epitomizes Sinatra's charm and vocal brilliance. Tracks like "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "You Make Me Feel So Young" showcase his smooth delivery and impeccable phrasing. The album's production is lush and sophisticated, with Nelson Riddle's arrangements perfectly complementing Sinatra's style. While some listeners might find the album's romantic themes a bit dated, the overall experience remains a journey back to a bygone era of elegance and timeless melodies. "Songs for Swingin' Lovers!" is a must-listen for anyone seeking the epitome of Sinatra's artistry and the pinnacle of classic American pop music.

Aging better than the finest wine.

not my style

Enjoyable

Enjoyed this one more than the previous entry I was offered by Frank. 3.5 stars.
