Reviews (page 7 of 13)

Good mix of blues and folk. Enjoyed probably more than any other Neil Young I've heard before as a whole album

Strong 4, blues blues blues

I miss Neil young, come back to Spotify 🥺 8/10

Oh, you have no idea how much I'm a sucker for electric pianos. Anyway, I really digged this album. Neil Young's sound is growing on me a lot. A couple songs dragged for me, but even the worst tracks here are still pretty damn good.

I'm beginning to realise I really like Neil Young

Really good music. I never listened to much Neil when I was Young, but now I'm just a sucker for his stuff. This album in particular feels more melancholy.

A good classic folk / acoustic rock album, every song is wonderfully composed, and easy to listen to. I can't say I've ever really listened to Neil Young before, and this album was a great starter!

Fantastic stuff, Young in fine form.

7/10 it was okay.

7/10. Pretty enjoyable stuff, I liked Revolution Blues.

Solid guitar work but very gloomy. 7/10

Young on mun CCR.

Voimakasta melankoliaa ja kaunis kansi. Kiitokset vaan spotifyn Joe Rogan-diilille, ettei tätä voi kuunnella sieltä. 4/5

Extremely enjoyable turn from Ol' Neil, who again proves he's never just pissing in the wind. I just can't help but think this would have sounded better if I was able to listen to it on Spotify.

Have to listen to this on YouTube since Neil is no longer on Spotify.

Overall a great album. Musically it doesn’t sound complex, and vocally he might be lacking when he tries to go higher but it all works. Young created a groovy/chill album that makes you want to hang out on the beach and drink beers with some friends while not having a care in the world.

I am a Neil Young fan. This album sounded great to me. Haven't heard it in a long time. Great to hear it again.

Had a hard time listening to this one without Neil Young's music on spotify. I loved what I did hear though, particularly Revolution Blues. This whole album felt like Harvest with an edge.

This came up in my feed a few days after he asked Spotify to remove his music. Joe Rogan sucks. This album however, does not suck. It is pretty samey, and would probably have scored higher if I had listened to it a few more times.

Gillade den mycket mer än väntat. Mysgroove

*See the Sky… , Ambulance Blues* Getting a sense of Neil Young behind the radio hits, and it is good

A good one.

I really enjoy Neil Young, but this was my first listen of this album. I'm so glad it got to be one of the first 10 albums assigned to me in this project. I'd like to listen again, but Google each track as I go to see what inspired it. Apparently Vampire Blues is about the oil industry. I'd also like to listen to it again with some honey slides - apparently that's what they called the sauteed marijuana and honey goop they concocted and consumed throughout the making of the album. Another bit of interesting history is that this album was not widely available until 2003. The title was deleted from vinyl in the early 80s, according to Wikipedia. In 2000, fans signed a petition to have it released on CD, and finally in 2003, it was.

I can't say I've ever listened to a Neil Young album, so going in blind here. I'm not sure I even know any of the songs on this record. It's always weird rating an album with so much history and personal connection, when you have none yourself. I love that this COULD have been hugely influential on my music taste, had I been exposed to it as a kid. This starts of nicely enough and has a bluesy/country feel that I was not expecting. I can hear some Dylan influence in here as well. I gave this a second spin immediately after first, so I guess it was pretty good.

Un bon album de neil young que je ne connaissais pas vraiment.k’aime craiment tout l’artiste. 4.10

Of the 138 Neil young albums on this list this is one of the better ones. 4/5

Really good. 8/10

Enjoyable

Neil Young recorded some great, good, decent, weird and horrible records during his career and On The Beach stands among his best. I never fully appreciated this album until more recently because I previously didn't gave it a full listen. There's no doubt his finest decade was the 70's, when he recorded and released his most classic records. This album is a low-key release from this era, without much commercial fanfare, but the depth and strength of the songwriting is undeniable.

Very chill I'd definitely relisten to this one

Not the best of Neil Young's album in the 1970s but the bar is pretty high and it's still pretty good, especially the title track and the closing 'Ambulance Blues'.

It's amazing how bummed an album created on a fuckload of doped honey can sound. Rough as guts, but it works.

Rock melódico de Neil Young.

I don’t have the words, other than that it was damn perfect for this tea-on-the-couch Thursday evening.

Not his best album but still very enjoyable.

Alright but not something I would choose to listen too. Much too slow and somber for most of the songs. Not bad, just not something I like.

A very chilled listen but with a haunting backdrop. Brilliantly written songs. Didn't care for "for the turnstiles" or the first half of "ambulance blues". Loved every other track

Neil is in fire and fury mode (the album cover itself is covertly apocalyptic) drawing his ire towards the ecology, lynyrd skynyrd and society in genreal. It's crazy that even in 1974 this feels like a mid career record for him similiar to Dylan's Blood on the Tracks and Van's Beedon Fleece) but it just goes to show how prolific these guys were during that period.

Walk On is a strong, joyous opener. I love an upbeat song with a sadder lyric. For the Turnstiles is also great. This whole album is the sort of Neil Young you can't help but love. Vampire Blues is a dirge, but it's then followed by On The Beach, which with a more traditional vocalist would be a soul banger of the sort sampled by the Wu Tang. Neil Young transforms it into something pleasingly idiosyncratic with his voice and lyrics.

Gets depressing towards the end. Key songs: Walk On On the Beach Motion Pictures Ambulance Blues

Neil Young always surprises me. This starts to ramble toward the end, but enjoyable nether the less.

Specialising in beautiful songs that sound so sad, this is Neil Young singing about whatever he damn well pleases with a hint of underlying anger management issues. Evocative images of waitresses crying in the rain abound and Young wrestling with his inner turmoil ‘ I need a crowd of people/ But I can't face them day-to-day’. Sometimes you want to say just lighten up, Neil. But this anguished melancholy is what he does and we derive great music from it.

Beautiful album, great songwriting, a good vibe and plenty of variety. I'm becoming a Neil Young fan it would seem...

I never really understood the appeal of Neil Young (that grating voice) so I didn't pay him much attention, but holy hell has this guy had his twists and turns. So many different styles; he is truly a virtuoso...and a mystery. But that got me thinking, why is it a must that I listen to this album? Had to listen a few times. Maybe it's how he is able to capture despair and just have it ooze out his songs (particularly side two). You can almost feel his pain and disdain for the world. His guitarwork is of course masterful. But I don't know, what do you give an I want to kill myself album? I read he wanted the two sides to be in reverse order and I think that would've given it a much different feel - rather than spiraling into despair, it'd be like the Phoenix giving a big middle finger (Walk On has a more upbeat, F it just be you attitude and Revolution Blues and For the Turnstiles are so angry). After a few listens I came to appreciate how much emotion he was able to stir up in his raw, stripped down style and powerful lyrics. Ambulance Blues in particular made me want to put it on again, and see what other hidden gems were in there. I know understand how he is an acquired taste; you gotta give him multiple listens.

Honey Slides 😀

Snap (and almost certainly bad) judgement: the Reflektor of Neil Young's discography. In other words I've been grabbed finally. Organ and steel are exactly what my ears needed today, and you can't beat the combination of depressive subject matter with near danceability. The harmonica's entry swept me up, and Turnstiles's switch in instrumental energy couldn't bring me down. The initial impression of this record as similar to Reflektor but on one disc is borne out: The second side is far more pensive. That's closer to what I expect from Young's band, but I'm still excited and intrigued by the record. The "Blues" troika stands out initially.

Look it's objectively one of his best, but personally there's only so much of these "actually it's really hard being famous and successful" albums that I can take

Good, but nothing memorable.

Really good album

This is Neil on form. Great stuff

First track is groove right off the bat. Whole album is just a vibe. I will be coming back to this one.

Great album. Not the best one from Neil Young but there are some pretty nice tracks on it

pretty chill. I like the long closing track.

Wonderful! Classic Neil Young.

Brilliant songwriting. I don't often enough listen to Neil's work.

Good classic Neil Young rock album. Not the one I most prefer compared to the other albums he produced in the 1970s.

Solid groove. Wasn’t expecting this

I've heard this one! Love it! My first and only exposure to Neil Young before "Rust Never Sleeps" from this list. UPDATE: Love this album, great vibes.

I liked this album, it was solid from start to finish. Not that surprising since I really enjoy folk rock, but yeah. My favourite songs were Walk On and Vampire Blues. I could see myself revisiting this album. 4/5 stars.

Yes, I was expecting to see a Neil Young album on this list. No, I was not expecting an album that I've never heard of. I don't think I knew any of the tracks either. The music was good. After a first listen, I would listen to this album again (4 stars). "Walk On" and "Ambulance Blues" might be my favorite tracks.

just chillin with summer mood nostalgic

Not his best, but a nice range of music

Strong album I'd never heard before. I recognized "On the Beach" and really enjoyed the first two tracks (Walk On and See the Sky About to Rain). It gets very dirge-like once you reach the end, but I have a lot of respect for simple but honest and unique songwriting, and this is a pretty solid example.

Prety good, really liked the title track.

Incredible album, but check out those lawn chairs. I could post up in one of those, polish off that Coors tallboy, and complain about shit with Neil for hours and hours. I wonder what his neighbors in Malibu thought of this photo shoot. This seems to be the cool-music-person's favorite Neil Young record. It's also sad as hell, but somehow not depressing. How do you do it Neil? Is it because your soul is actually 75 years old and you have the voice of an unstable grandpa? When you're young and complain it's self centered and privileged but when you're old and cranky it's wise and sometimes funny. Neil Old made a fantastic record here. A-

Surprise, surprise, Neal Young is a great song writer. First song very Grateful Dead, chill party song vibes. Second song has great keys. Only heard this album once, but have heard a lot of good things. On the Beach is amazing. String album that seems to fit in between his earlier stuff and later stuff. Like Harvest and Down by the River, everything is good. There’s only one song I didn’t like, a blues song about oil. Blues songs by rock musicians always seem like a phone in, they don’t have the sadness of original blues, they just using the style. This song not only vamped as a blues song but the lyrics also reminded me of Neal Young’s more recent heavy handed, zero nuance protest songs, which are my least favorite if his catalogue. Still, that being the exception, good sound, good songs, classic Neal Young.

Embrace the darkness, Neil. Always thought this was an interesting album. Vacillates between pop, rock, blues, country, walks some interesting meandering paths. A sort of sorrowful anger permeates most tracks—though that cynicism is often obscured by some lightness in instrumentation. The title track is pure anthemic stoner-philosopher groove. Hope you found what you were looking for.

Big fan of the genre. Relaxing with some nasty banjo

Was fine

Love Neil Young

a wistful folksy album. music for a solo road trip in autumn

Onverwacht mooi!

Never listened to a full Neil Young album prior. Will do after this!

Loved it. Couple of shan tracks but mostly treat. A man, taking 4 years to get over the 60s and adjust.

Buen disco del Tito aunque para mi lejos de sus grandes obras (que son muchas). Aun así con grandes temas

Really consistent and well sequenced. Short and mellow. I love it!

Nunca falla Neil

A classic of his classic era! A bit too depressing to be a 5*, but still a very strong album.

Je l’évite: aucune Je lévite: on the beach, révolution Blues

Neil Young en estado natural.

Neil Old

I've never really connected with Neil Young in a strong way, which has always felt odd to me, but it is what it is. I don't think I had listened to this album before, which is a shame, because I love it. I connected with this one.

This is the best Neil Young album so far on the list. I really enjoyed it! Its biggest problem is how short it is. Put your shoes back on, Neil.

Definitely a mood.... like the cinema song and the last song with the harmonica.

Nothing particularly stands out to me, but it was pleasant listening.

Great album that makes me want to listen to more Neil Young

Hells yes, so good.

I don’t love Neil Young as a singer but the pace of this album was incredible. Really a work of art.

top 5 Neil albums, but a few misses knocks it down

This one has a bittersweet sentimental association for me. Maria (remember her?) really liked this album, and I got it for her on vinyl for her birthday. It's not tainted by that association, but my mind associates a few songs on this album with her. I knew of Vampire Blues, See The Sky About to Rain, On the Beach, Revolution Blues before though. On the Beach is my favorite. I'm a total clichè, but Thom Yorke has a nice cover of it, which is how I first heard it, lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHaqT3CcZfw I actually think the original may be better, it has a nice chill/vibey feeling. I actually don't know much Neil Young. In some ways, this is a 5* album. But, it's not one I listen to all the way through. So, probably closer to 4* for that reason.

second favorite neil young album. Vampire Blues best track.

Chill!

Great album, listened the B-side first, as per Neil youngs dying wish

Love Neil Youngs voice on this one.

This was fantastic. Definitely need to listen to more of Neil Young's catalogue.

12/9 3.5/5. A couple truly great records on this, namely... Standout Tracks: See the Sky About to Rain, Revolution Blues, On the Beach

es un buen disco, pero Neil me aburre a veces

pretty good kinda sad

Enjoyable Neil Young, much more in line with what I wanted to hear vs the first album I listened to. Nothing special though, no big hits like Harvest Moon or the other bigger albums.

Are Neil Young albums distinguishable from one another? The question remains.

Very traditional acoustic Neil. Pleasant listen but nothing to write home about.

Muy tranqui, muy lindo, pero no es lo mejor de neil young

노래는 평범했다. 그런데 앨범 재킷이 내 스타일이었다. The song was ordinary. But the album cover was just my style.

3.3/5 Favorite Songs: Walk On Revolution Blues On The Beach Ambulance Blues

Listened

a pleasant surprise for the day, neil's vocal range still impresses, last time i heard a song of his was Rockin' in the Free World, where he goes way lower. Almost fell asleep, some might see it as a bad sign, when I mean it as the biggest compliment, such a mellow tracklist.

A bit too melancholy and whiny for me. Still, it's a Neil Young album so its hard to hate. At the same time, none of the songs are standouts, it's an album with some good songs yet none of the greats.

Review: This was a good album. It by no means blew me away but there were definitely some very solid tracks. I love the feel of the album. It really makes you feel like you are at the beach and the soothing guitar and vocals create such a great sound that is so addicting. The consistency however was just not there unfortunately. If there were a couple more songs that sounded like the first part of the album then It definitely would have been elevated a little more.

Another one that I am probably underrated due to listening to it in the background

pretty, but nondescript folk rock for me. not quite getting the hype

The best Neil Young I've heard so far but still don't really get the fuss.

Kinda boring

I saw Neil Young at Glastonbury in 2009, I think it was 2009 I can’t remember anything about it, I was fucking tanked after a day of speed, mushrooms and cheap lager. I’m sure I walked away from it thinking it was good though. Never listened to this one, it’s pretty standard Neil young fare. Pretty enough. Favourite track: see the sky about to rain

I'm still not converted. It's fine, but I could live without it.

White guy sad on the beach. “Vampire Blues” was best song

Afwisselend!

Aangenaam maar niet spectaculair

Neil slapped a young tickles the taint

liked it!

I like the unique guitar tones on this album, along with the typical soothing singing of neil youngs one of a kind voice. Not as good as rust never sleeps which was served to me last month, but a good album none the less

A good album for a sunny afternoon

Good like soft rock album !!

Some people feel this is his best record but I've always struggled to get into it. It's good, but I prefer others.

I was feeling this. I should listen to some more Neil Young. 3.5/5

Some pretty decent tunes on here. Not sure how this one has mad ethe list though...

Not as strong as Harvest or, my fave, After the Gold Rush, but still nice to listen to all the way through.

Boaring AF… Echt van die liftmuziek. Prima op de achtergrond, maar niet het soort muziek waarvan ik er echt intens naar wil luisteren. Dus prima ofzo? Geen idee, beetje in de midden.

뭐라 쓰지

Agradable

Adaquately depressing for a grey Monday morning

Neil Young has been a pleasant listen whenever he has come up. This is no different

Solid listen, moderately beachy, starting to change my mind on my hot take that Niel Young is a good songwriter but not a good performer. The instruments and singing on this match the vibe excellently and I think I would classify Niel's voice in the same category as something like Isaac Wood or Geddy Lee where the technical skill lies under a quirk that sounds a bit grating at first.

There are some good tunes here but he’s a pretty corny lyricist.

6.0/10

Pretty good neil young ramblin' (except for "Motion Pictures", which is tuneless and annoying)

Listening to Neil Young makes me sad— taking a star off for that lol

This one wasn't really my vibe until the last two songs, which was more in line with the Neil Young that I like. The rest of it isn't bad, but I didn't find that it moved me in any way.

Good, chill album. Album as a while is good, some good lyrics and of course a great voice.

Another Neil Young album. He has a lot on this list. 70s rock. A bit of the softer folky side on a some of this. His vocals seem better here than other albums I’ve heard. Maybe it’s just more familiarity with the sound of his voice. There’s some blues rockers still here too that are fun. Overall, this might be the most I’ve enjoyed a Neil Young album on first listen. Biggest downside for me was the closing song. Long with that more annoying Neil Young vocal style. Overall, this is really solid. It’s somewhere between a 3 and 4. Nothing wowed me, but would enjoy a lot of this on relisten in a playlist

Previously unknown. Interesting. Like if Lucinda Williams and John Lennon had a baby.

not bad, no standouts though

Quite good

Really good folk & blues rock. It’s not an immediate standout record, but there are moments of brilliance & I can see myself coming back to these tracks when the mood is right. I need some time to develop a final opinion, but songs like “See the Sky About To Rain” and “On the Beach” easily tip the scales in favor of a solid three. Excited to explore some more Neil Young! STAND-OUT SONG: “See the Sky About To Rain” HONORABLE MENTIONS: “Walk On”, “On the Beach”, “Revolution Blues”

I wasn't looking forward to listening to this album, since I don't really like Neil Young in general. In that regard this album was quite surprising since it wasn't as bad as expected. It just wasn't very good or memorable either. 3/5

Easy listening. Alas, the most popular song (I assume) is my favorite: Walk On. 3.5 rounded down to 3.

I liked this album. There were certainly some good tracks on here. Perfect for a slow morning

Highlights: Walk On, See The Sky About To Rain, On The Beach. 3.6

In meiner Aufholjagd endlich mal wieder was chilliges anzuhören.

Missed most of this album on the shitter

Same old Neil. Good, not great, not exactly my thing, but not exactly NOT my thing.

is this the best neil young album? i doubt it.

I received "Harvest" yesterday, so this was an interesting draw. While "Harvest" is more folk-heavy (which is my preference), this album is very blues and rock n' roll-heavy (which isn't so much a preference of mine). The two songs I actually liked, "Motion Pictures (For Carrie)" and "Ambulance Blues", were the only super folk songs, tacked onto the end of the album. Neil Young's best work is folk, in my opinion.

I love a Neil Young album but not his best imo. Fave Songs: Walk On, Ambulance Blues

Meh. I've always thought Neil Young's voice was kind of whiny. There are some moments of enjoyment on this album, but all in all, not one of my personal faves by a long stretch.

Doesn’t stand out among everything else

Easily the best Neil Young album on this list so far, mainly because he's playing less folk and more blues. 3.0/5.0: Good

decent album, not as good as After the Gold Rush

En la playa

Invites you to sit in its melancholy.

weaker neil young album to me, excited for the rest of the trilogy though

I'm still quite hit and miss with Neil, I did actually really like a lot of this album but there are a few songs that pulled it down for me. It's not always my type of music, kinda hard on the harmonica, but it's easy to appreciate his talent.

I dunno why but I strongly suspect neil young fans are total dorkwads. I liked it

There are quite a few other I'd rather listen to on the beach, even from that time. I enjoy SOME Neil Young songs, but I guess a full album is too much for me.

Whiniest man of the previous century. I cannot stand his vocalstyle, but atleast this is less depressing than "Tonight's the night". I don't understand how this list needs this much Neil Young.

Not bad but nothing special either. I'd say folkslop but it's not quite that bad. Poetically it's not bad but musically it's not good either.

It's alright.

Está bueno, pero no es mí estilo.

Pretty decent with a really nice vibe

it was good, some mid songs. sorry neil

gran album, muy lindo de escuchar, se disfruto mucho.

Defined my ranking system a little more today! Looped the album

I don't have many words for this album. was just a middle of the road oldies record. I didn't hate it, which is actually saying something for what i've encountered on this list.

Pas bandant, on se fait un peu chier mais pas horrible non plus

für neil young eher gut und hörbar.

Nice, but that's it.

cool sound on the closing track but it's overlong i think for the storytelling and the ideas. i like the title track and Revolution Blues, though. just not really a Neilhead overall. deserves to be one of the 1001? sure i guess maybe idk idrc. put three of his albums on here. maybe 4. this is a decent pick i suppose

If you asked Len Houmous how he liked his cosmopolitan he would always say ‘on the beach with Neil Young’ 3.2 1/8 Walk On

I love Neil Young. This feels like a record that would reward many more listens, but so far I like, but don't love, it.

Maybe 2.8 stars. I enjoyed it and it was great for a Saturday morning!

It was pretty good. A little disappointed 😔, but it was still pretty good 🫤. Overall, I would give this a 3.9/5! 🌷🙂👌

I'm trying hard with the neil young and still struggling to get there, like I get it but it just can't grab me, maybe a headspace issue

- (quote discovered and taken from someone else's review:) "You go to a supermarket, and you see a faggot behind the fuckin’ cash register; you don’t want him to handle your potatoes.” - Neil Young. Yeah, you can F off Neil Young. - My face fell when I saw that today was yet another NY album. Enough. - Nothing really stood out here other than the occasional nice guitar riff, but it was nice and easygoing enough.

3 I liked some music toward the end of the album

Neil Young is getting old. 6/10

one of the first things article about this record tell you is that Young and his band were stoned out of their mind on a concoction of weed and honey when they made it, and weed and honey IS what this sounds like. The mellow sound, while great, makes the album a touch monotonous; Revolution Blues stands out over the bunch as the menace breaks through it uncomfortably.

Very relaxing. Personal highlight was See the Sky about to Rain

Quite surprised! I gave harvest 1 star cos it was dog shite. This I enjoyed as much as I could with it being a Neil young album. I even played it 3 times !

Some decent songs and Young’s voice here is about as good as it gets but the songs, whilst good, don’t grab me as much as some of his others do. I like the contrast between some of the lyrics and comparatively upbeat music which reminds me a little of why the beach boys are so appealing.

Laurel Canyon sunlit gloominess, Maliblues. He put out a couple of the best albums of all time (Tonight's the Night, Rust Never Sleeps), and this was what he was doing when he wasn't doing that. The impulse toward Dylan-lecturing must have been strong at the time and behind every lyric is a tsk-tsking finger. Good music, but stop trying to grab the seagulls.

War schon chillig. Gerade die ersten Songs waren echt gut. Hat aber stark nachgelassen

I’m not a Neil Young fan, and this album did little to sway my opinion of him. I just don’t understand why people hold him in such high regard; he’s a fine folk artist, that’s all. The album was OK, I enjoyed the opener quite a bit and there were a couple other solid songs, but it really dropped off a cliff with the last four tracks. All that adds up to a 3/5, not much else to say because there’s not much here.

Saved by Revolution Blues

Se queda un poco atrás comparado con el anterior disco que escuché de él, pero aún así tiene temazos.

está bien. me gustó. no conocía el album ni el artista

Should Neil Young be on this list? Yes. Should this album be one of them? Hmmm. Grumpy, introspective, not caring Neil Young is not the best.

Not really mu jam but I see some appeal

Nice background country or folk maybe

Me gustó, no me mató 3 estrellas

Very archetypal Neil Young

This was nice easy listening, I don't think I've heard Neil Young before but he was a good blues style that I enjoy. I would listen again but not necessarily going out of my way to listen. maybe 65-70/100

Easy, breezy Neil!

It was okay, not my favorite though

It's not bad but I am starting to feel like Neil Young's non-famous work is an acquired taste.

2.8 stars. Cromulent 70's folky Neil Young.

3 Was kind of expecting him to have a stronger voice

Enjoyable album for a warm spring day, this.

“See The Sky About To Rain” - what a tune, thank you RGP. Worth 3 stars by itself…

meh, guardé dos temas, no me encantó pero tampoco me disgustó, ideas y propuestas interesantes al principio pero todo es muy chato, nada que me sorprenda

Its fine, its isnt bad necessesarily. Its just fucking boring man. Snoose fest

Didn't expect much seeing the previous stuff from Neil Young I heard, this was somewhat better. I would still probably never put this up, but at least it wasn't as grating to listen to. The music was actually built around the musicality instead of just his voice, which made it significantly better

ay çok hızlı bitti resim çizerken pek anlamadım klasik country abi

Nice, but nothing more for my tastes.

I just could never get into Neil Young. I get his importance, but his music was just never able to grab me. Walk On was pretty enjoyable, and to be honest, the problems I usually have with his vocals arent really present here, which is nice. The runtime is nice too, it doesnt overstay its welcome, it doesnt leave much of lasting impression either, though.

It was fine. I’m just not a Neil Young fan. Walk On was enjoyable but the rest left very little lasting impression on me. I’m having a hard time even remembering the album now just a few hours after listening to it

es un buen álbum, me gusta el estilo y no se siente genérico, pero tampoco me terminó de atrapar, ninguna canción me pareció súper memorable o un temazo, igual ninguna me pareció mala tampoco, siento q se mantiene constante en un nivel

This was okay, but not great

With Neil there is no middle ground. It’s like Dylan. You either have convinced yourself that what they do is awesome or that it’s just boring shit. Objectively this statement is untrue but subjectively it makes perfect sense. I like Neil’s voice better than Bob’s but make no mistake, this record is just a slightly better than usual record for Neil. I get it. Neil was unhappy and didn’t trust the listener enough to let them figure out he had the blues. Never have I felt before listening to this record so much apathy expressed as music. It is clear that Neil has never been to a nice beach. Certainly not California. Ontario perhaps at the edge of a cold lake. What is unmistakable is that this is certainly a Neil Young record. Also very fucking unhappy Neil. It is also very in-Canadian. Gone are the we’s replaced, sadly, by the I’s. Are there catchy tunes one might ask. There are: Walk On, Vampire Blues and perhaps See The Sky About To Rain although lyrically the song is savagely stupid. Ambulance Blues is just a slog to listen to even though it does have some catchy lines. Not wholly terrible but not a great record either. 3/5

Not a lot to say about this album. Good music and lyrics. This is a Neil Young album. If you like Neil Young, you'll like this album. If you don't, you won't.

"babe! it's time for your monthly neil young album!" "yes honey..."

6/10 Kind of drifts along. I like Neil Young, but this didn't really capture my attention at all

Kind of a drag but the last 3 songs saved it.

*Nice folk album but nothing that amazed me.

It was good, consistently slower though

Favorite: Ambulance Blues

Enjoyed it very much. Didn't realize how much I would like this.

Eh it's fine

This one is enjoyable. I like his voice and his music is simple but pleasant. This album is darker than what I have heard of him. “Vampire Blues” was my favorite.

Pas ma musique préférée mais quelques morceaux m’ont plu. Mention spéciale pour im a vampire

I may not know any of these songs. I like the first one though, old school happy vibes. The rest of the album is like sad 70s cowboy rock (affectionate). I think it’s funny that there are three different “something” blues tracks.

Another Neil Young record, huh? I found this one easier to listen to than some of his others. I think the mellow vibe helped with that. Still, though, I always seem to get tired of listening to Young's voice by the time the albums start winding down. Going to go with 'fine' on this one. Nothing really struck me as all that good. Just not bad. Overall: 2.6/5

Listenable.

For a few albums, I've enjoyed them without being able to explain why. This is one. I don't typically enjoy Neil Young's music, even if I recognize his influence. So why does this work for me, here? No idea. I should have been unbelievably bored, but the lyricism somehow engaged me. Good stuff.

love the guitar! i feel like it meets the hype bc i never thought i would love this kind of music but it’s lowk okay if i’m in the mood.

Although I really like his music, not an every-day choice for me. favourite: "Revolution Blues", "Vampire Blues" 2,5

This is the second album by Neil Young that I‘ve had to listen to and neither of them have been Harvest Moon. Does this mean that there are 3 Neil Young albums on this list? I never really even wanted to listen to one.

I'm learning I'm not a Neil Young fan, but this one definitely has some good USofA vibes. It's melancholy, calm, and heavily inspired by US culture. 6/10

First Neil Young encounter during this experience and the first time I've ever listened to him. It was fine. I had a great run of albums leading up to this one so I'm disappointed there (not Neil's fault). Regardless of when I would have gotten this album I'd probably rate it the same, 3/5. Its very middle of the road for me but fortunately does not scare me away from the other Neil Young albums that I am sure will pop up on this list.

Great guitar player and lyricist...can't always handle his voice for a long period of time. Was a perfect match with CSN.

I don’t think it’s the best Neil Young’s album. Just some regular slow blues songs, nothing extraordinary.

Over het algemeen vrij saai? De sfeer is wel rustig en dus goed voor achtergrondmuziek, maar over het algemeen was ik niet geprikkeld door het luisteren van dit album.

I think this would be a solid 4-star album, in part because it’s hard for Neil Young to not be 4-star. But, then it has to end with an eight-minute song?!?! I’m deducting a star just for that.

On of Neil’s mid seventies classic albums

A good singer/songwriter type album but no song really stood out to me.

Pretty good, wish it was longer. Simple and still interesting. Solid 3.

Well, not my fave.

Tender, bittersweet. Ok at best.

Третий альбом Нила Янга. Вселенная посылает мне очередное испытание. Альбом на 39 минут? И в нем 8 песен? Я мог ожидать от Нила всего, даже песню на 50 минут. Это я, считай, легко отделался.

I've never listened to this album, and I enjoyed it. Overall not the most interesting and I thought it was a bit uneven. But overall good.

slightly repetitive and doesn't totally hook you but a nice, comforting sound.

Sweet general vibe, a couple of especially good ones, I’m not mind blown.

Ok, not his best in my opinion but his work with Crazy Horse is more to my liking.

Easy listening to. Sounds countryish.

It was not for me but I recognize why people loved it. Folk isn't my go-to type of music.

Could not listen because his music isn't available on Amazon music.

Neil Young is one of those artists whose cult status on the west I don't understand at all. These days, he mostly grumbles about everything: Spotify (where he once managed to delete his entire discography), social media, Americans who voted incorrectly... Okay, old man yells at cloud, but what did he do in his youth, at his peak? He played pretty standard country-folk, which, while not bad musically, relies heavily on the lyrics, which dramatically raises the barrier to entry for me. The lyrics, by the way, are so full of negativity and melancholy that Neil Young himself later decided he'd overreacted and didn't allow the album to be released on CD until 2003. He wouldn't let it be released, and he pulled the music from streaming services... Grandpa, do you even want people to listen to your songs or not? As they used to say at university: "You're great, of course, but I wouldn't give you anything higher than a C."

Pleasant

this album sounds like Young is trying to channel some of the Curtis Mayfield-ness of the era. The effect is kind of the same as seeing a really old stiff white man trying to bust a move while waving his cane in the air, but in a good way.

Better than I was expecting. Pretty mellow, but it was a nice listen. I’m not a Neil Young fan, so this was a bit of a surprise. Not sure that I would seek it out to listen again, but it was an overall enjoyable experince.

4 stars, but because of "For The Turnstiles" its -1 star. 3 stars.

Wasn’t aware of his music prior. Good driving music and background music.

Armónico, me gusta cuando extiende una letra y no es con la tonalidad que yo espero y queda lindo. Guitarra suena bien. Es tranqui y alegre

This is not beach music.

I think that my mom definitely undersold this guy, she was talking about how annoying and dreadful he was when he opened for Simon and Garfunkel. And to be fair, I’d be pretty annoyed too if I was waiting for Simon and Garfunkel, but I think this really wasn’t bad at all. My only complaint is the pacing, putting the three longest songs at the end really drags the album down, I think moving the title track up would do wonders for the album. Also I was listening to this in the bathroom, and the drum on the last two songs sounded EXACTLY like someone knocking, it was crazy. Favorites: Walk On, Revolution Blues,

The opening track (Walk On) was great but the rest felt very simple, slow and not very interesting. Vampire Blues was maybe second best, but it's basically just another laid-back blues jam.

Solid vibe music.

Chill with some hits

This albums alright, I think Neil Youngs sound can sometimes drone on and become background noise. The On The Beach song really reminded me of the Seagull song Yoda sings on the Star Wars bad lip reading video, this made me laugh.

It’s a pleasant listen, but nothing very notable I can say about it. Didn’t really resonate with me, but I liked the feeling throughout.

While I have appreciated many things that Neil has done, this one doesn't do as much for me.

This is a better Neil Young album than the others I've reviewed. The groove and feeling of this album is very strong within this time period. His voice is not whiny, which it tends to be in later albums.

I was looking forward to this due to the name, since im in Mexico. But this was honestly not very good beachnmusic Neil... why are you so sad on the beach! This is like sad boy folk fest music. Pretty good at that, but very deceiving... First time listening to Neil, was nice! 7/10

An interesting choice among Neil's vast repertoire. I had no knowledge of this album. Not that I'm a Neil o' phile despite him living quite near here in his youth. Quite the twangy melancholy piece of sublimated rage against the machine this one is. It doesn't ring my bell, but I can appreciate its merits.

This is fine, but just doesn't do much for me. I know there's plenty of Neil Young albums on this list....something to endure, I suppose.

Typical Neil.

Quite liked this album. Ambulance blues goes on a bit! Quite a good selection of songs. Fraction short of a 4 for me

Don’t love the voice, but solid overall.

Didn't feel very beach with this album with the word "Beach" in it...

What a great 25 minute album with two shitty, long-as-hell songs totaling 15 minutes. He seems to take it all a little less seriously, so I take him a little less serious? He’s singing about being a vampire oil baron. Idk, I think it’s funny. Also I hope they invented a new circle of hell just for the guy who invented the harmonica.

See the sky For the turnstiles Mix aus Beatles und Floyd Jeder Song so schön, aber nichts flashendes 2,5/5

Neil Young is cool, I always forget but I shouldn't

Admittedly I probably didn't listen to this as closely as I should have. It didn't really catch my attention, but it wasn't bad.
