Album No. 0030 on my list. I was completely unaware of Teenage Fanclub before listening to this album. But honestly, I really really like it! It's a seriously good, easy-going, great-sounding noise rock album, and I really enjoyed listening to it. I've only listened to it once so far, but I'm pretty sure this could seriously become one of my favorites. There are no bad songs on this, but "The Concept", "December", "What You Do To Me", and "Metal Baby" are my favorites. Will listen to this very often from now on - 5/5 stars!

Loved this record. Teenage Fanclub are criminally underrated. Catholic Education is really good too. Bandwagonesque is a little more B.O.C. for the alternative set with Matthew Sweet’s pop sensibility (and producer?) and therefore more accessible. The Concept is a staple of indie/alt radio (RIP CD101), but the album rocks end to end.

I’ve known about Bandwagonesque for a long time. I’ve tried listening to it before but never made it past a song or two. Listening to it now, I have no idea why I struggled before. It’s fantastic. It’s like a combination of Big Star and Jesus and the Mary Chain.

5 glorious slacker stars here. Classic 90s album full of sweeping guitar chords, witty lyrics and hooks galore. Something for the whole family here - nods to Status Quo, great harmonies, multiple singers/songwriters, groovy basslines. And F you Gene Simmons for suing them over the cover. Prick.

I like this a lot! The kind of music I might have enjoyed in high school

I didn't realize that if I wanted more Big Star, I'd have to wait for an early '90s Scottish band to come around. Awesome find. It's like Gin Blossoms meets the Byrds meets Big Star. Excited to work my way through the rest of their discography.

The Fannies were quite incorrectly swept up with Britpop but really they're quite a different beast, the holy marriage between Big Star, the Byrds and 80s us punk. The combination of harmony singing, classic pop song structures and crunchy guitar saw them through a decade-long set of classic albums of which this is the first, and in many ways the original that would be refined over 13, Grand Prix and Songs From... a four-strong run of albums to live with the best of them.

This was great despite being British I'd not heard of teenage fanclub they're awesome

Repeat listen

One of my favorites!

Grunge melodies

Great!

Takes me back. So many great songs. The final instrumental track is my favorite but I like guiding star, the concept and what you do to me a lot as well

An album that hangs somewhere between jam and vibe, each song seesawing in each direction. Super cool

Another album that's been a long time favorite. I bought this in 1991 when it first came out, loved it. Still do.

4.7 - Never really listened to them but my goodness, just solid great music. Sounds like some mates just making music they like, could listen to this all day.

The Fannies here, just tossing out brilliant, brilliant, brilliant proto-Britpop that was never equalled (except arguably by them on Grand Prix) for the rest of the decade. The Concept is such a brilliantly strong opener, it's hard to believe that What You Do To Me packs so much into two minutes, and Metal Baby is a mental sort of glam stomper that sticks in your heard for hours. All in all, I'm putting them out there as the best Britpop band (I reserve the right to argue that B&S do not fit into the genre).

I only had a passing familiarity with Teenage Fanclub before. This is right up my street, some cool guitar effects and instrumental sections in the vein of Sonic Youth, but they don't get in the way of good songs and melodies. It's a little lo-fi and the vocals won't be to everyone's taste but I like them. Listened again immediately after finishing

For a band I have never heard of, they completely transported me back to the 90's. Loved every track on this album!!!!

Wow. What an album. Sad i didn't know about teenage fan club before, this is great!

I love the way the songs seems to be dragged over the line. This is an album that sounds like it was recorded in slow motion. The extra space allows for the soul to come through. It still kicks shit. It's till a five star album.

This was right in my wheelhouse and seems very ahead of its time for 1991. I will happily return to this one.

Amazing! I really liked this. Lots of guitar and very much in tbe same vein as Oasis, but less confrontational.

Great album!

i really enjoyed my time with this one. i've not explored teenage fanclub's wider material, but it's always been a name that i've heard and have been interested to listen to. it reminds me a lot of the power pop that i love - big star, particularly. big guitars, catchy hooks, a teeny bit of noise. very fun stuff!

Scottish pop perfection with a dose of grungy distortion. Teenage Fanclub are hard to beat and this may be my favorite album of theirs.

Jangle power pop done perfectly.. Perhaps not overly original but in 1991 it sure seem to be.

I love this record. Simple strummy power pop with great harmonies.

The indie rock version of Big Star. This is a great album and I'll listen to it again.

If the songs are still great despite sounding the same the majority of the time, then you've got yourself a classic album. Bandwagonesque, which I thought was Teenage Fanclub's debut for the longest time, is one of those all killer no filler classics; the kind of album that even the most forgotten about song or two will find its way into your head and stay there for a while. As it starts off with one of the best songs ever made (The Concept), Bandwagonesque operates upon a tried and true formula that never ceases until the end, proving its mettle as a worthy repeat listen and a record deserving of adoration. Is this music? You bet it is.

Great 90s alt! Glad I got to hear it.

I thought I knew most 90s bands/albums worth knowing...turns out I was wrong! This is fantastic. I don't know about being bigger than Nevermind, but this album certainly has all the right vibes for the time period. Sounds a lot like Big Star but somewhat grungier? All in all, I dig it. Standout Tracks: The Concept, What You Do to Me, Is This Music?

I first heard Teenage Fanclub on the DCG Rarities Vol. 1 album with "Mad Dog 20/20" and came to discover this album through that collection. I am still bitter there wasn't a Vol 2. of this collection, but after 30 years I have finally begun to heal. I liked this album and it has a place on this list. It's a revolutionary album in that it came out when grunge was big and this is not a grunge album. I love the jangle-rock sound and this is an antidote to the incredibly serious and intense sound of other bands in the early 90's.

It's alright. A little light.

"Bandwagonesque" is the third studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Teenage Fanclub. Alternative rock, power pop, jangle pop, noise pop. Yeah, that fits. The album had substantial success in the US with three songs hitting the top twenty on the Billboard Modern Rock Charts. It also had wide spread critical acclaim. "The Concept" starts things off. Distorted guitar then layered guitars. Guitar-led power pop. A couple of extended guitar jams. Maybe, this is even stoner or slacker pop if those are words. This reminds me a lot of the Lemonheads. It's about a woman who's cool and hip, maybe too much for her own good. The third single "What You Do To Me" continues the guitar-led power pop. Harmonies are added. A nice short song. Distorted and echoing opens the first single " "Star Sign." There seems to be a pattern there. A faster pace and more prominent bass. Soft harmonies. They switch lead singers in 'Sidewinder' without a drop off. Nice harmonies. A harder guitar at the end. "Alcoholiday" continues the layered guitars and we get a welcome guitar jam and solo. The album closes with the instrumental "Is This Music?" Higher pitch guitars...encroaching fellowship countrymen Big Country territory. I really like this. I remember getting this album when it came out and not really liking it that much. It didn't have an edge I was looking for. Well, it still might not have an edge but I definitely have a much greater appreciation for it today. Nice melodies, layered guitars and harmonies. It has a sound that we would hear more of in the early 90's....see the Lemonheads. Definitely worth a listen.

Really enjoyed this. One more interesting band I've never heard about

IsThisMusic is definitely a highlight of the album. I feel like this whole aesthetic really blew up in the 00's, will listen again.

I love this album. Always have. I didn't discover it until months after the initial release, either the record company had held off on putting out in Australia when it was released overseas of they were doing a push to get it out their. But anyway, it was the morning of my 19th birthday and I was watching the music show Rage ( an Australian institution), the Concept came on and I was blown away. It mixed the droney shoegaze guitars with a 70s bubblegum pop. A perfect blend. That night I went to an indie club for the first time as they were a rarity back then and was given a copy of Bandwagonesque as part of a promotion. It was meant to be

I’ve never heard of Teenage Fanclub before. I’m also quite unsure what to make of that album art. It’s definitely minimal-esque. It also doesn’t really give any clues as to what music lies in wait for me today. I hope it’s good, but that album art doesn’t exactly leave me hopeful. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: The Concept, Star Sign, Metal Baby, Is This Music? Holy guacamole, this truly rocked my socks straight off. This feels like it is aimed exactly at my taste in music. It’s 90’s alt-rock, distorted guitars, apathetic singing. It’s really hard to go wrong for me here, and Teenage Fanclub goes so very right. After the album finished, my only disappointment was that I wanted more as I didn’t want it to be over yet! This is a definite stand out new discovery to be added to my playlists. I loved this to the moon and back.

First album and it's already off to a great start. I feel like this band has been on the periphery of my music landscape for ages but somehow they've never crossed that threshold. If I would have discovered this 20 years ago it would have been in regular rotation and it probably will be now.

pure greatness

Early garage grunge! Barrel of fun

Zalige slacker-plaat. Toffe ontdekking

Awesome

This is an album I still pull out and listen to start to finish. It takes me back and makes me smile.

Exceptional 90's rock album that really pulls from the power pop classics. Influences from the Byrds and Big Star here are obvious but the album doesn't sound like a copycat since it really combines shredding alternative rock guitar. One of the 1991 an a definitive 90's rock classic. 9,5/10

I knew the band by name, but had never stopped to listen to anything of theirs... very good, I liked it a lot, and now I will listen to more!

One of the best albums of the 90s by far. Every track is superb, but ‘This is Music’ is just a perfect song.

I really enjoyed this album, some really fresh 90s indie rock

9/10 some really, really good stuff here not enough for a full 10, but still definitely a great album

Been a member of the fanclub for decades.

めちゃ可愛くてポップなアルバムでした。前向きになれる。

Good rock album

Creation Records has its finest moment.

Love this. I really should’ve listened to it when I first heard of it years ago.

Great band and great album. What a year 1991 was for music. This is one of the many great albums that came out that year, and over 30 years later it still sounds great. Great 90’s indie rock mixed with some 60’s. Given I’m Scottish this is maybe a biased voted but I believe this to be a solid 5 star album.

Fantastic!

one of the best

metal baby star sign alchoholiday guiding star satan i don't know what you do to me

They could have been massive

Fun and energy

A beautiful album which still stands up and can lift the spirits in minutes

Just some good 90s rock. The guitars were front and centre and it clicked. Liked this a lot, new one for me never heard of these guys before today. Added most of the album to playlist.

first track is good

Classic rock break down at the end of the concept is both hilarious and perfect and December and What You Do To Me both continue to satisfy.

Mood: Rocksito bien hecho, pero tomado a la ligera y I can respect that.

Esse sim é meu estilo! Rockzin indie pra ficar de boa *-*

Heaps good - classic alt movie vibes

Loved the 90s vibe.

CREATION RECORDS.

Teenage Fanclub – Bandwagonesque (1991) On Day 192, I checked out an album that turned out to be a really good listen. It was highly consistent and brought a very refreshing sound and great melodies across the entire tracklist. The project had numerous highlights for me, with the only real exception being "Satan," which didn't seem to fit the vibe at all and felt more like a filler track. Ultimately, "The Concept" and "Metal Baby" took the cake for me; they were perfectly laid-back and beautifully set the scene for what to look forward to across the rest of the LP. The overall experience was pretty chill, and it honestly would have been a perfect masterpiece if it wasn't for that low-effort album cover. Despite the weak artwork and the minor filler, it remains a thoroughly solid album. A strong 4/5.

Welcome and fun surprise. Multiple memorable songs that were on here. It’s a good blend of alt rock, grunge and general noise and shoegaze. I know next to nothing about this band and don’t think they ever really moved the needle in terms of influence. That said, 1001 leaves space for music that is a product of its time and just solid, which this is.

The Concept - 5/5 Satan - 3/5 December - 4/5 What You Do to Me - 4/5 I Don't Know - 3/5 Star Sign - 5/5 Metal Baby - 4/5 Pet Rock - 3/5 Sidewinder - 4/5 Alcoholiday - 5/5 Guiding Star - 2/5 Is This Music? - 5/5 Average score: 3.9/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very good album. Tasty guitar. The Concept and Star Signs were my stand outs, and Is This Music? is like, the perfect ending. 8.5/10.

Found this absolutely delightful. Genuinely wonderful songwriting, a pleasant mix of 60s pop and 1990s college rock aesthetics. Would put this in my regular listening rotation

Pretty good.

Great power pop record, can certainly hear the Big Star influence, but they put their own spin on it as well.

Great album. Just that perfect mix of indie rock and power pop. Kinda like Pavement playing Cars tunes. So fun.

Teenage Fanclub carried the torch of power pop while bringing the feedback and noise. catchy and distorted. best album of 1991? I don't think so, but it's definitely great. highlight -- "I Don't Know" is one of the best rock songs of the '90s. every time I hear that bridge I'm like HELL YEAH.

Album #117, Teenage Fanclub, Bandwagonesque, ⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a blast from the past. I genuinely hadn’t heard or even thought about this album since I was about 18, when I went through a period of listening to it constantly. So this was a real nostalgic wave today. Over the last 30 albums I’ve reviewed two Big Star albums, so there’s a massive elephant in the room here. To my ears, Teenage Fanclub are basically a poor man’s Big Star. But even a poor man’s Big Star is still better than most bands. Their sound is so obviously indebted to Big Star that it can actually be a little distracting at times. There are moments where they seem to lift entire moods, vocal melodies, chord progressions, even little lyrical turns straight from them. Listen to December and tell me there aren’t sections that sound exactly like a Big Star song. There were points where I was tempted to open up a DAW and compare tracks side by side. But honestly, I don’t really mind because I absolutely love this kind of music. And to be fair to Teenage Fanclub, they do bring their own spin to it. There’s a fuzzier, more guitar driven quality to the whole thing. It’s like bubblegum grunge. They also love a good guitar solo, and so do I! Song’s like The Concept just let those wandering guitar sections drift on and on, and I’m an absolute sucker for that kind of thing. There’s also something about Scottish lead singers that always works for me. Whether it’s Belle and Sebastian or Teenage Fanclub, there’s just a warmth and softness to those voices that suits melodic indie music perfectly. Really enjoyed revisiting this. It’s a pop rock gem.

Most people note the strong influence of Big Star on this record, which is pretty inescapable. It's pretty much a Big Star record updated for the 1990's, which means you lose the lingering psychedelic elements and get a louder, more buzzy distorted sound to the guitars, although you can still hear the influence on the riffs if you listen closely enough. That might sound a bit dismissive, but honestly its pretty fantastic. The songs are all really catchy and the shifts in sound from a more high energy sound to something a bit closer to something Big Star could have potentially released themselves really holds up. There's even a song with some horns that works well. The last couple of sounds have a more traditional indie sound, and are still pretty good. I liked this record when it came out, and its still great.

You can't go wrong with well made 90s alternapop. These are guys I've always heard the name of, and I know I've heard a song or two, but never really explored an album. Glad to have done it today. That album art, on the other hand...like, c'mon, you could've done better than a computer graphic of a cartoon money bag.

Never really got into this one back in the day, I always preferred their follow up album. It is however a great album with a number of stand out tracks but I do find it a bit laboured at times.

This is pretty good guitar rock 'n roll. I enjoyed it.

This is a pretty cool album that I have completely missed before. I will definitely come back to listen to it again.

After I listened to "Bandwagonesque" a second time, and ignored the videos, I came to the realization that Teenage Fanclub is a pretty solid band. My advice: give the album a second listen before submitting your review.

I was a bit late to appreciate this album, but every new listen my love grows.

i had fun

I remember this album from back in the day. It's a bit shoegazey for me but it's alright.

i think this would have been a really fun band to see live. i fucked with this

Wow. I saw "1991" and was hoping for alternative rock / britpop vibes but my hopes weren't high. What I got was... So much more? A cool genre mix and a fun overall sound. Why have I never heard of these guys? Thank you album game 🙏

This is a great album. I hear shades of Big Star and the Stones in lots of these songs. Love the guitar tone and the power pop melodies. Favorites were The Concept, December, What You Do To Me, Star Sign, Pet Rock, and Is This Music?

I cant believe I never heard of this band, and I can't believe this was released in the 90's because is EXACTLY the kind of music I used to hear in the 10's

Never heard of this band or album. At the time this one completely passed by me. Very glad to encounter it here, honestly. At first I was worried that it was another Brit sample from this period that did not belong on this, or any other list, and was better left forgotten. But no. I was wrong. I look forward to listening to this one again. Boolean: yes, glad I got to hear it before I die.

I thought I didn't know this band but I do. And they're great! This sounds so 90s to me in the best possible way.

1991 was the year I got married, and “what you do to me” was a firm favourite- I didn’t buy this album, though I’m unsure why? I think I need to get it after listening to it yesterday, it resonates so much to me from that time, when we were both into all those “indie” bands like Teenage fan club, Dinosaur Jnr, lemon heads etc….

Fun 90s punk rock-ish music, enjoyed

The Concept - 4/5 Satan - 3/5 What You Do to Me - 4/5 I Don't Know - 4.5/5 Star Sign - 4/5 Metal Baby - 4/5 Pet Rock - 4.5/5 Sidewinder - 3/5 Alcoholiday - 3/5 Is This Music? - 3/5

Everything I like jangly guitars and good lyrics. They remind me of someone can't quite place. Def 60s maybe not individual band but the sound.

You ever get the feeling some of these bands could have been HUGE huge with a better mixer in the studio? This album is simple, it's deceptive, it's got a lot going for it, and the style at the time of putting the guitars heavy forward just holds it back. What happens is you have three different modes: - A good polished album (sometimes) - Feedback/cacophany (often) - A bar band that fades into the background (occasionally) There were times I loved it. There were times I just wanted it to end. I wish I could give a 3.5, but since I have to lean one way or another....4.

What a great pull! Spent the afternoon listening to this, Smithereens, Posies, and Sugar. Excellent.

GRAN ALBUM me gustó mucho

I can’t believe I haven’t heard of this band before. I quite enjoyed this album. Definitely gonna have to see what else they have going on.

I've been aware there was a band called Teenage Fanclub, but I believe this is the first time I've heard them, and I don't know how this album isn't more talked about when we talk about the 90s. Sounds like they took the Beatles, Kinks, et al and did Britpop better than any of the more radio friendly versions could ever dream.

Turns out if you play some Neil Young-esque tracks without Neil Young, I quite like them. I prefer Grand Prix as an album, but this is the one that got them noticed. Lovely.

Lovely, lovely jingle-jangle, whose influence was huge. Doesn’t necessarily grab you first time but you keep returning.

Good shit lads. If only some of the other britpop albums on this list were as good as this. Favs: The Concept, Star Sign, Alcoholiday, December Least Fav: Guiding Star 8.4/10

Good album! Really liked the whole vibe!

amazing, so fun

Fabulous. Enjoyed immensely. Nearly as good as Grand Prix

I wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did but this was surprisingly good!

This is the kind of album that I wish Big Star had been capable of making. You can hear its DNA in Elliott Smith, Weezer, and so much more that came after. For some reason I always thought that Teenage Fanclub was a punk band, but instead they're just one of the best power pop bands that I've ever heard.

This is a GREAT album. I love power pop, which leaves me scratching my head on how I missed this in the early 90s. The album mixing seems to be taking a page from the shoegazers of the 80s with a wash of sound and the vocals just barely above the rest of the mix. Something about that style gives me warm fuzzies. There is so much to praise here -- December is absolutely beautiful with the arpeggiated guitars and lush vocal harmonies. The tight vocal harmonies continue in What You Do to Me and I Don't Know. I'm fond of Metal Baby and its use of interesting chords. It looks like Teenage Fanclub has an extensive catalogue -- I definitely plan on listening to more of their music. This is another album I wish I could give 4 1/2 stars. In time it could become a 5 for me.

I liked this more than I thought I would. I hadn't heard of them at all, but it was right up my alley

4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/teenage-fanclub/bandwagonesque/ Jangly guitars and vocal harmonies. What more can a man ask for? Some of the instrumental intros/outros take a bit too long, making my lose my focus, but other than that, I can really dig this.

I don't know if I've heard this or not, you'd think with a cover using such stellar Microsoft Paint skills I'd remember. It sounds sort of familiar but I don't know if that's because I've heard it before or if it's because it's just got that sort of 90s sound that I've heard a lot. There's a lot to like on this album - good instrumentation, good production, creative songs, competent playing. I like that it is early 90s jangly without being thin. It's a little more upbeat than a lot of the more well known music coming out at the time but I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Spin Magazine says this is better than Nevermind and I politely disagree there. This is a good, solid 90s rock album and I have no major issues with it. It's just not quite interesting enough for me to want to listen to more. 3.75/5 and will grudgingly round up.

I liked it, it was fine :) light rock or something like that.

This is right up my alley. Had so much fun with this. I'll probably revisit it often. It kinda sounds like a lot of others in the 90s, but it's also kind of ahead of the sound a little bit. Maybe it's not at the level of Nevermind, khm khm Spin magazine.... Still, strong 4

Very good this. I was a fan of the record with a car on the front but hadnt delved much more into them, so I’m glad this one popped up. Recognised a few songs, including the one near the end that Arctic Monkeys ripped off. Some great songs on it, sounds like a very early predecessor to Real Estate. I probably prefer their national contemporaries they often played with or get compared alongside, like B&S or Camera Obscura, but this is still good in its own right. Will be giving it a few more listens

Vaguely aware of teenage fanclub as a band I might like, think this exceeded expectations though. The main sound really reminds me of early ash albums, really catchy guitar led pop. The last song was probably my favourite though, the programmed drums and sustained guitar lines reminded me of chiptune/anamanaguchi. Wasn't a blow me away 5 out of 5, at least at first listen, but right up my street.

Like Nirvana, but not quite as miserable or angry. The Concept was the standout. Star Sign was good too. Really grungey, can imagine listening in a dank, sticky, underground room smelling of fags and WKD. I can practically smell the amp feedback.

Know of them but couldn't have named a track. Enjoyed this, got that early 2000s indie sound going on. What Jamie said!

A fun early nineties alternative album that sounds like what would have happened if Elliot Smith had been in the Gin Blossoms. Highlights: “Pet Rock” and “Alcoholiday”

I have a lot of different games I play with these 1001 Albums reviews, depending on what the Generator chooses fit to send my way. early on I talked about Cool, But I've Heard That Already! (which has accounted for a decent chunk of the offerings so far), but the game here is more like Who? Ohhh. today, it went like this: Teenage Fanclub? Who? okay, they're a Scottish band, big in the 90s and, Ohhh, Bandwagonesque is Ben Gibbard's favorite album of all time. Of All Time! (there's also the Spin Album of the Year fiasco, which you can also go read about on Wikipedia.) despite Gibbard's endorsement, Teenage Fanclub's sound is not too similar to Death Cab's; it's slightly more in line with, like, that Jesus and Mary Chain album I checked out in January. Bandwagonesque evokes a sense of 60s/70s nostalgia, but in a way that's unmistakably heralding the 90s. perhaps it was the sound of bands like Teenage Fanclub that would eventually evolve into the Britpop thing: catchy power pop tunes, sun-kissed electric distortion, a firm rejection of synths in favor of strings and brass. this album also incorporates ample three-part vocal harmonies (possibly more?), something you don't hear too often in 90s rock music. for me, it has the potential to get a bit hokey, but it never quite does. if this music does have much in common with the Death Cab sound, it's that omnipresent mellowness. to me, the Death Cab thing is pretty grand and expansive, whereas Teenage Fanclub's thing is less adorned. Bandwagonesque came out on Creation in the same year as My Bloody Valentine released Loveless on the same label and... well, I'll get there when I get there. decent 7/10.

This is pretty cool. Raw, diverse, eclectic. It's early garage rock that doesn't try to be punk. This is a crafty blend of garage rock and indie rock. It reminded me a bit of Neutral Milk Hotel. Anyways it was between a 3 and 4, but I particularly liked the last track so it got the bump.

Interesting quote from the Wikipedia page: Bandwagonesque was voted "album of the year" for 1991 by American music magazine Spin, beating R.E.M.'s Out of Time and Nirvana's Nevermind; the magazine has subsequently both apologized for and defended the selection. When I initially read this, I'd imagine it'd be a crazy take. However, they not have been as far off as I thought. While it doesn't come close to Nevermind, it was still pretty enjoyable.

This wasn't bad! Kinda felt like some kind of early emo music at times. Like just hints of it sprinkled through which I was kinda diggin. Wasn't anything too too crazy to make it really stand out, but I did enjoy the listen through enough to listen to it twice. Will probably re-visit at some point.

Reverby, fun mix of indie/grunge/post-punk with low-fi sound and some pop sensibilities. Bit like britpop in places but clearly American. Also like Pavement. I'm sure I've heard What You Do to Me Best track - December, Star Sign, Metal Baby, Guiding Star, Is This Music 4 stars - can't say why but I found it compelling!

Cool album, lots of interesting sounding guitars. Amazingly ahead of it's time

I think this album would be a good introduction to the music genre. Many of the songs were upbeat and catchy. Some of them it was hard to distinguish between the verse and chorus.

this is better than i have expected. wow. 4/5

A pleasant surprise

Surprisingly good.

The songs were all good, but there was no real 'sound' to the album as a whole. It's kind of weird how each song can stand on its own and be rated highly against contemporaries, but taken as a group the album just doesn't stand up nearly as well as a lot that came before or around the same time.

This was shockingly good, the perfect balance of forward facing (for 1991) while firmly rooted in the rock of the 1970s. I can hop on this bandwagon.

As great as powerpop goes. The concept and what you do to me were known but I hadn't heard the full album. What a way to finish up with Is This Music? It's almost bagpipes rock 🗿💎

Excellent 90's jangly guitar

Little pop gems drenched in fuzz guitar and sung in harmonies so sweet that there's a diabetes risk. Imagine if Simon and Garfunkel became the lead singers of the Jesus and Mary Chain. Probably too much of its time to he celebrated these days, but a lot of fun.

I love Big Star! Once I’d discovered the song “Thirteen” in 1979 by some random reference in a long forgotten music magazine, I was hooked. Of course, numerous bands have been influenced by Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Jody Stephens and Andy Hummel who put out 3 amazing records between 1972 and 1978. Teenage Fanclub essentially resurrected Big Star. This is power pop at the highest level. Although in my mind Thirteen (See even TF acknowledged the debt) released two years later in 1994 is a superior over all record, Bandwagonesque has some very fine moments. For me, the best tracks are the simplest and are a little Beatlesque such as What You Do To Me and Star Sign. The vocal harmonies are perfect and although this was an unusual record for Scotland at the time, it comprises elements of late 80s American power pop with Brit pop ala Oasis and Blur. These are subtle influences and likely why this record connected with a broader group as this record was huge on College radio. I’ve revisited this record several times over the years after being in a steady rotation in my car CD player and in my classroom when I was a High School teacher in the 90s. It is a fine record- not perfect but honestly should be in everyone’s record collection. 4/5

By no means mindblowing or original but I really enjoyed this album. It’s fun, silly, sweet, and has great guitar.

Tuneful, interesting proto-Britpop. 4.5

Not the worst thing on this list by far, in fact it was one of the better picks I've had. Actually thought these guys were a bit more punk but I enjoyed their vibe

This kinda feels like it lands somewhere between Beach Boys and Foo Fighters and my ears were confused, but it's also good early 90s rock.

There guys felt a little ahead of their time with this album... like a good 10-15 years ahead of their time with the gritty indie rock sound. Really enjoyed "The Concept", "What you do to me", "I don't know", "Metal Baby", "Pet Rock", "Alcholiday" and "Is this Music". All the other songs were great to be honest, but these stood out to me the most. I really enjoyed this album, it has the pure vibe of some young guys having fun and jamming in their garage; fun just runs through every note on this album and I love it. This kind of fuzzy, innocent creative fun feels missing in this day and age of music, so its refreshing to hear it now. It's an incredible cliché now, but being born the same year this album released makes me feel as though I missed out on a time that was more right for me as a teenager than the one I grew up in. Oh well, at least we can still listen to these and look back fondly on what we did have at least.

Enjoyed this. Good sound and good melodies. I will definitely listen again.

Good for what it is - pretty chill, would listen in car or at gym, good for background music

…and you could dance to it!

To my ears, at least, Teenage Fan Club were another band championed by John Peel which I came to love, probably coming to them late with a Peel session which I know included Alocoholiday a fabulous track from this wonderful album. Grand Prix stands out as their absolute tour de force, but this is almost equally wonderful. I think they always wore their influences on their sleeves e.g. Big Star but I think they are so much better than them. Some wonderful melodies, great arrangements and clever lyrical and musical twists along the way. The slightly understated December is perhaps a less obvious particular highlight. Bandwagonesque made it clear they were and in fact still are something special.

Really good. Feels ahead of its time.

As a fan of Nada Surf, I feel like these guys must have been their direct influence. Really enjoyed it - and I think if this had been something that I knew at the time, it probably would be 5 stars of enjoyment for me. As it stands it's a solid 4 that I'll be happy to continue to listen to.

Ah classic 90s style rock/alternative. I even recognized a few of the songs or maybe recognized the vibe of the songs, but it was pretty good. The name of the album is clever, and I added a few songs to my 90s playlist. Solid

really liked this, thought this would be from like 2009 from the title

Great record! For some reason it doesn’t click for me as much as some of the other big early 90s power pop albums, I don’t think I am in love with how this record sounds compared to Grand Prix too. Still a banger tho

Had no idea what I would be getting here but I loved it. They are built around a very consistent sound but there is enough variety to keep me enjoying it, especially around the ends. The opening and closing tracks are serious highlights for me.

i know Teenage Fanclub, and I've heard them, a long time ago when I worked in a record store, but I wasn't a fan back then. However, now that I'm older, I appreciate it a lot more and can also understand why I may not have been as into their more laid-back sound. I do hear a lot of the Big Star in them, along with the Brit-Pop/Rock sound of the early 90's. So, I am a fan and do want to go through this album again and other albums by Teenage Fanclub in the near future.

Good Stuff

Overraskende godt!! En af de bedre fra 2026

This was solid. Don’t know how this got past me at the time but it’s in the rotation now. Fun listen.

I forgot how good these guys were. A great jangle power pop alternative. Up there in the same conversation with Matthew Sweet, the Lemonheads and Dinosaur Jr. The Big Star comparisons are complimentary and well deserved. And Kurt Cobain himself was known to name drop them in interviews as the best band in the world. Maybe there was something to Spin naming this album as better than Nevermind? Ha. Not really. Oh well, whatever, nevermind. Still a great record.

Have always loved The Concept, so shame on me for not spending more time with the rest of this before now. This was great, can see why people hype this band.

luv what u do to me and the concept 👍 coolll

Rock and roll baby! Some jams on this one

Surprisingly good - will listen again

Rockin record

I actually really like this album, though it’s not perfect. People might question the relevance of this album but the sounds developed here went on to consolidate the sound of shoegaze so undoubtedly quite an important album

The Concept // What You Do to Me // I Don’t Know // Alcoholiday // Is This Music?

This sounds very psychedelic. Very strong album.

GOING IN: Very excited indeed LISTENED WHILE: Chillin at home FAMILIARITY: Listened to it many times SKIP RATE: Played it straight through REPLAY VALUE: Deffo play again DISCOVERY CURVE: Warmed up nicely ALBUM ARC: Pretty even, consistent VERDICT: Absolutely brilliant BODY'S VERDICT: Decent head wobble FAVOURITE TRACK: My Rating: 4.5

"I WANT TO ASSASSINATE DECEMBER." Need I say more.

I know teenage fanclub already but never properly listened to them. This was a great album. It has an almost timeless quality to it, as if it could've been released last week. Really good stuff.

It’s like pavement but not

I really enjoyed this sound.

Some great memories from the scots lads

Context mattered. I was on my back in a crawl space insulating pipe when I listened to this for the second time. It felt young and free of adult life. I remembered the cathartic feeling of making music as a teenager with nothing else to care about. And that felt good.

Important in its day and an unexpected breakthrough, this merger of grunge and power pop was misunderstood as a heavy rock record. The Fannies continued to evolve and peaked a few albums later with Grand Prix and Howdy.

It is interesting that Teenage Fanclub struck chord with critics and other musicians more than the public. Bandwagonesque is a fantastic indie power-pop album with amazing song writing, great instrumentation and brilliant, sometimes harmonic, vocals. At a time when grunge dominated indie music, this album stood out. As the band’s name implies, Teenage Fanclub’s schtick is reinterpretation of the sound of their youth into something new. The influences of bands like the Byrds, Big Star and Neil Young are easy to spot, but it doesn’t distract because the band leans into it. The songs throughout Bandwagonesque, have pop-like strong hooks and melodious vocals, but this is intermixed with fuzzy, sometimes noisy instrumentation more reminiscent of bands like Pavement or Dinosaur Jr (an inspiration to the band’s creation). I can see why this juxtaposition will not land for everyone, but I also think that this is why many report enjoying the album more on relistens. Music like this is sometimes easier to enjoy when you know what is coming. Cool stuff. Although admittedly this is a genre I’m partial to, I agree that this is one everyone should listen to this at least once before they die. Also, another album that is back in rotation thanks to this project.

This is definitely a classic from the early 90s alternative scene, blending power pop and jangle pop with a joyful, melodic vibe. It carries a strong sense of nostalgia, clearly influenced by 60s and 70s bands like Big Star, The Byrds, and The Beach Boys, but listening to it today instantly takes me back to the 90s.

It’s like a poppier Dinosaur Jr. not in a bad way but the band smooths out the rawness.

Very good

I liked it quite a bit. It reminded me of dream-pop Foo Fighters. Given I was a teen in the 90's I'm pretty familiar with the 90's sound, but hadn't heard much of this band. This sounded familiar but fresh. I loved Is This Music?.

After the first listen, I read a review that said "God bless the second listen", so I decided to give it another chance. I'm glad I did.

exactly what you want you'd want out of 90s pop-rock album

Tuneful, slightly weird and a bit lo-fi. The Concept is a brilliant opener.

Interesting, a band from the nineties that I completely missed out upon. I remember the cover from the displays of the record shops at that time, but somehow never got around to listening to it. This isn't bad at all, it has that typically nineties sound of distorted guitars, but the songs are well crafted and are melodic too. It's a kind of like Sonic Youth meets Big Star. I actually knew "What You Do To Me" but liked the album as a whole, and would definitely play it again, 4/5.

8/10 Favourite: The Concept Least Favourite: Guiding Star

In no way anywhere close to the quality of Nevermind, but nevertheless a nice addition to the world of jangly indie rock. A lot better than expected

Never heard of this band/album before, but I enjoyed this! I really enjoy a lot of albums with this post-punk ish sound from this era. I would give this another listen for sure.

It's a pleasant surprise to see this one make an appearance. Not because Teenage Fanclub don't deserve a place on the list but because they feel like the kind of band that could slip through unnoticed. I also would've chosen the more accessible (and commercially successful) Grand Prix if I was including one Fannies LP. But on a personal level, I love to see them given their dues as one of Britain's great underrated 90s bands. This was also a nice reminder to give this album a fresh listen as it's probably their album I return to the least. It has some fantastic little tunes on it and the vocal harmonies are excellent. It feels a little rough around the edges but that's not a bad thing - you could probably accuse them of feeling a little too polished on their late 90s-00s albums.

A very interesting album reminiscent of the late 90s or early 2000s. A good sound with a mix of soft punk and grunge. I could choose several favorite tracks, but I think I'll go with What You Do To Me.

Odd title for an album by a band I had never heard of and I was surprised. A broad range in musical styles across songs and solid vocals made this one a new found treat.

Men plata funker jo bra likevel

Fint rockealbum. Desverre litt ujevt, men toppene er høye!

I had the perfect review lined up for this: Blandwagonesque Unfortunately, this is actually pretty decent stuff. 3.5/5.0: Very Good

Dunno what I was expecting with this one (Both an amazing and absolutely dogshit album cover, haha). But getting some early 90's alt-rock that kinda predicted stuff like Death Cab for Cutie or even Foo Fighters. So much of this album feels like early Foos that I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Dave Grohl was heavily influenced by this, definitely with some of the vocal melodies at least. Songs like Alcoholiday feel super Grohl/Foos to me along with some songs earlier in the track list. Basically, if Foo Fighters were a more indie-oriented band, they'd be making stuff like this. But yeah, very pleasantly surprised by this record. Not that I wasn't expecting a bad album, but didn't really have any expectations going into it. Great record.

On first listen I wasn't that impressed but it definitely grew on me. And I think it deserves extra points for being a pre-cursor to so many other genres of music. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was released in the 90s, 00s, 10s or now.

Fun one. Big Star for the 90's

Indie quo. Fun

Pretty decent alternative rock album, although some songs seem to go on for longer than they need too.

Really great, kind of surprised I'd never properly listened to them. Its the perfect blend of catchy pop, great guitar lines and early 90s crunch. Some of the guitar tones here are amazing. Sort of like if Weezer were Scottish and less cringe or something. The vocal lines and melodies are really catchy and poppy, which I think always really works over these types of instrumentals. Some of the most interesting ones on here are some of the fully instrumental ones, like the Satan song, where the weird feedback leads into this great pre-loveless my bloody valentine esque part, but more washed out and stuff, there's also the last song, which I think shows that they can do catchy stuff without a vocal, as that guitar line on its own is really great. Favourite songs: all but I don't know and guiding star. Overall around 8/10

So good

This was so good!

While some songs blurred into the background, overall I enjoyed this Chilled American rock, which gave wheetus vibes

Never listened to this before but I can definitely hear its influence in a lot of what I have. Stuff like Yuck’s first album was clearly influenced by this. Similarly, songs like December clearly owe a lot to Alex Chilton and Big Star. Overall, really great, fuzzy early 90s indie rock/pop.

A friend of mine, who was the hip music guy at my high school, loved this album. And I remember there being a lot of hype about it in music publications. I didn't get it, and I still don't. I mean, it's pretty good ... just not great, by any means. I will say, I think I like it more today than when I was in high school. There are lots of cool moments, but they're mostly instrumental moments. The vocals fail to bring it home for me.

The greatest obstacle to getting or enjoying this album is history. This is a fantastic album in a very interesting year (1991), and if they had gone on to further success, this album would be celebrated more. I have heard it twice and enjoyed it more the second time. But I am also hearing things that are interesting that want me to listen more. Bravo, Teenage Fanclub!

In the reviews I read a lot of people call this Britpop. It sounds too American for Britpop. It sounds more like Buffalo Tom, Lemonheads, Soul Asylum, Goo Goo Dolls, etc. to me. And Manic Street Preachers, but they're newer. Teenage Fanclub are pretty good at that style. Favorite song: star sign

Cool rock

Solid album sounds like the best if 90s rock

I first discovered these guys about 5 years ago when I was putting together a best of alternative rock playlist for 1991. I've mentioned them in other album reviews and how they capture that UK rock sound of the late 80's / early 90's, which directly preceded Britpop. Apparently they're inspired by Big Star and Alex Chilton and you can totally hear it in their part-hard/part-soft rock sound and vocal harmonies on songs like The Concept, December, What You Do to Me, and Star Sign (my favorites, 3 of them singles). Their sound also reminds me of the Replacements (also big fans of Big Star & Alex Chilton) and 90s contemporaries the Lemonheads. They rock a little bit harder on the two instrumentals Satan and Is This Music? At any rate, I always enjoyed their sound and now I've enjoyed listening to their breakthrough album, not just the big singles.

I liked it better as it went on

I'm surprised I'd never heard this, and I'm a bit torn on it. I absolutely love the guitar work. The tone of the interplaying guitars throughout is sublime-- just above the edge of breakup, snarly and jagged yet lush and clear. It straddles somewhere between 70s power pop like Big Star and some 80s noise rock influences like Dinosaur Jr or maybe Sonic Youth. It's just an interesting clash between the overdriven guitars and absolutely clean singing and pop song composition. It reminds me of 2000s-ish Wilco, like maybe Summerteeth era. It reminds me of something but is hard to pinpoint. I don't know if it's really my thing, but it's well done. To be honest, the song structures and tempos are very similar throughout, and the singing becomes kind of a slog. I kept hearing those guitars and wanting things to pick up. There was a slow tension but the release didn't really come. Ultimately, I loved the instrumentation and production, but I didn't find the songs or lyrics that interesting. This is sitting in between a 3 and 4, and I'll round up because I think it might grow on me and may be one of those albums I appreciate more in a different mood.

Can I sign up as a middle age fan??

This is a low-key delight. It has a very patient, measured sort of tempo and energy, which can on first pass scan as uninteresting. But there's something almost slowcore about its dedication to the midtempo rock song. It's a little droney, a little melodic, somewhat hypnotic, and heartfelt -- you can hear the conviction. This would be great rock music to drink to. I really loved this. Must-listen #211.

And this is why you keep an open mind when going into an album. You see, I wasn't super excited going into this Teenage Fanclub album. I just kind of expected another average alt-rock album and that's it. I mean, this one even falls victim to the whole "baffling take from a music magazine" thing that so many weak picks on this list fall into due to the fact that Spin Magazine called this the album of the year for 1991 over albums like Nirvana's Nevermind! Is this better than Nevermind? No. Of course not. But is it a good album? Absolutely. I really liked Bandwagonesque! This album's pretty cool! I'll start with the one thing that just kind of exists. The songwriting isn't bad, but it's not spectacular. It does the job, but it doesn't have that wow factor, you know? You know what does? The sound. This album sounds so cool! It has just the right amount of feedback and I love it. It's got a bit of a Sonic Youth thing going on with a bit of the Cure and even some power-pop adjacent elements. It's great. I said that the songwriting could be better, but that was more for the lyrics. The actual compositions are great. "The Concept" is such a great opener. "What You Do To Me" is pretty nice. I really like that one. In fact, I like all of the songs. Even the weakest one, "Satan," picks up near the end. The singing is kind of hazy, but it fits the vibe well. The album's length is solid. I've got to say. This album's pretty cool. I'm glad I listened to this. Light 4/5.

Fav song: The Concept

This album started strongly and finished strongly. I would recommend it 7.5/10.

It was my first listen and I liked it quite a lot. It's a very good blend of pre-britpop, US alternative rock with a hint of 60s vibe. This came out in 1991 before Oasis and in the same year Blur released their debut so this band was influential on the British rock music scene of the 90s. It also has a Scottish sound which can be heard in a couple of songs. A strong 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Was unfamiliar with this group but will be checking out their discography now! Album starts a bit slow in my opinion but was well worth discovering. Guiding Star and Is This Music were a great coda to the record.

How did I miss this?! It came out my final semester of college, and it sounds like something I would have loved to listen to in a college bar. But, with how tight the drums are, they were too good to have played in the places I would have gone. I really liked this!

Fun 90's alt rock/power pop by Scottish band. Catchy if not overly creative. Lots of swooning by lead singer. Standouts are "Start Sign" and "What You Do to Me".

Did you want a 90's Big Star album? This is a 90's Big Star album.

Æ har cirka null sterke følelser for det her albumet. Det høres ut som sånt menn æ kjente i 2005 hørte på, og det e jo helt greit det.

Pretty good. I can listen to this on repeat and relax.

Pop/rock with some catchy tunes

Guitar driven pop, love this album

I’ve never heard of this band before. Who are these guys? Why aren’t they more famous? Is this middle-aged mom rock? Why do I like this so much? Seriously, the vocals are soft and sweet, the lyrics are pretty, and the rhythms are catchy. I thoroughly enjoyed this album. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the music because the album cover gives off clip-art vibes. This kind of discovery is why I started the project. I’m now off to listen to more by these guys.

Solid rock music, if nothing spectacular. Not better than Nevermind or Out if Time, but I did like it.

Stupid album cover but a really good album. Great swirling guitars and pop sensibility lyrics.

Some tunes made me think of The Eels, 1989 and 1991 debuts though across the pond from each other. Great bands both.

I bought this album back in the day and enjoyed it well enough, but I'm not sure I ever got to the end. Today, though, it worked a little better. Some of these melodies stuck in my head all day. I like how relaxed it is while still being muscular. And they're obviously Big Star fans, but they never sound like a rip-off. In fact, I think some of these songs would have fit very nicely on Third. Anyway, I'm glad this got served up.

V good. Somehow missed them first time around.

7/25/25. Underrated gem right here! Felt like this got lost for me in all the grunge and "britpop" scenes but really consistent, fun songs. Want to check out the rest of their catalog.

Pretty good stuff.

Some parts I really liked and some parts I forgot was even listening.

Before listening, I read that this album was ranked as the best album of 1991 in Spin magazine, beating out both R.E.M. and Nirvana. That's rich, I thought. And yeah, that obviously sounds pretty ridiculous in retrospect, but I can actually see why they were so enthusiastic about this album. It takes the noise rock of Sonic Youth, tones it down significantly and mixes it with catchy pop hooks that could be mistaken for Pixies covers. The album feels pretty rough and, well, teenage, but that does add to the charm. It's far from the best album of 1991, but there's still a lot to enjoy here.

That sweet spot between late 80s jangle pop and alternative rock, early 90s shoegaze and british indie, and the forefathers of what would become Britpop.

Quite easy going inoffensive indy/pop/guitar music. Nothing special but pleasant enough. I guess it is a good example of that particular early 90s genre.

It's like every generation has to discover random guitar distortion for itself. This is like pre-Oasis British pop-rock. This sounds like every other 90s pop alternative band. The Gin Blossoms, Third Eye Blind, I'm sure there are 100 others I'm forgetting. This is like rock adjacent. The song they do with De La Soul on the Judgement Night soundtrack is better than any of these songs. Nothing on this album is bad, it's just very forgettable. This just gets lost in the sea of similar bands that existed immediately after them. Maybe that's the genius, they presaged those bands by a few years. Is This Music? has no lyrics but is my favorite song on the album. This album is very listenable if not really a standout.

Huh. Never heard of this before. Pretty dope. (ugliest album art ever tho)

I like it, but it was a bit middle of the road.

This brought back a lot of memories. I knew a few songs on the album, and the rest of the album as a whole I enjoyed a lot. This is one where some songs ended up on my playlist and I could see myself reaching for it again.

Two early/mid 90s surprises in a row!

Based on their name and the album cover, I expected that I wouldn’t like this. But actually I did like this album very much. Had some Beach Boy vibes.

You can hear all of 90s alternative and modern rock contained within these songs. Oasis, Foo Fighters, Failure, etc were clearly influenced by these guys. It’s cool but a bit whiny for my tastes.

Really enjoyed this. Chill, indy, old skool vibes

This one was fun one I don’t have - I am going to give it a 4/5 based on a quick first impression #musicsky #albumsky #musicchallenge

Only found one song. Maybe I’ll find the vinyl

enjoyable

Never heard of the band, but I enjoyed the album!

I've never heard of this and it's gr8

This is one of those bands I always knew, but never really listened to growing up. My biggest exposure to them was when they did an amazing collab with De La Soul on the Judgement Night soundtrack. I have to say this album was really good, and made me regret missing out on them back then.

Got a lightweight Weezer feel from them, but this album just never gets over the hump. A little too homogenous.

Okay this was pretty good which I wasn’t expecting

Really liked this one, probably a grower. Emo grungy kinda sound

Never heard of this band but I liked this album.

Nice work!

I really liked December, What You Do to Me, Guiding Star, and Metal Baby. Listened to it a few times over a few days to decide what I think. Definitely my thing, but not giving 5 stars because there were some songs that I didn't like as much/felt were just okay

I’ve never heard of the band or the album or any of the songs but it sounds so much like so many ‘60s and ‘90s music I like that I have to give it a 4.

Don’t listen to this often but always enjoy it.

Pretty fun honestly. Can't say i've really listened to them before but definitely had a good early 90's rock vibe. Definitely get the Oasis comp. Funny how some music like this rarely makes it's way over to mainstream US music - this probably would've bopped. Sparky's dream(not this record) is also a pretty great track. Love when i find something new and intriguing here! That's what the project is (likely) all about!

I was often reminded of 'Where I Find My Heaven' by Gigolo Aunts, better known as the theme to Game On. Unapologetic power-pop. 'Star Sign' in particular has a fair bit of similarity. But unlike the semi-vapid 'Aunts', the warm melodies are combined with jangling guitars and harmonies, with a sporadic touch of distorted guitar to create something very appealing. This album soaks in a lot of influence but its tendrils also reach forward into the 90s. A band loved by other bands. Maybe derivative for some, but for me they have created an exceedingly melodic album with a high hit rate. It tips a four.

Really good 90s album. Really good. Start to finish very listenable. Easy vibe without too much grunge.

Angsty, but with that reall Nice 90s chill alternative vibe that few bands walk well.

Jedan od onih mojih ovo je bilo jako hvaljeno a ja nikad nisam do kraja ubra albuma. Lijep gitarski ton svakako

I hate to give this a four, but I do like some of the songs a lot. Pet Rock has really strong early 70’s Stones vibes.

I really dig that. Kinda a “Matthew Sweet with a band” vibe. Good early 90s alternative

Teenage Fanclub is a Scottish alt rock/pop band that have recorded a dozen albums over their over thirty year career. Bandwagonesque is their third studio album, and the only to find significant success outside of the UK. The album's hit singles, "Star Sign" and "The Concept, are great examples of Teenage Fanclub's power pop: sonically full, guitar driven anthems with great hooks.

Really enjoyed this, sat in a hybrid spot between a lot of other music of the era that i love.

Perfect mix of uninterested vocals, jangly guitars and distorted guitars

A bit culty and of its time, but not bad. I would probably put this on again if the mood took me for something under-polished and raw, but not too hard.

Hadn't heard this before, even though I was aware it was highly rated.

Strong lyrics

A la belle époque de teenager, c'est exactement le genre de groupe qui m'a fait découvrir le doux son noisy du rock indé, le cousin du grunge américain. Teenage fanclub en première partie de Nirvana au Zénith en 1992 ... j'y étais !!!

I really liked this. Can’t believe I never listened to it. It does sound a lot like Big Star is some places. Also heard some Sweet and some REM here too

Always been partial to power pop. TfC are a little more on the indie rock side of their spectrum on this album with the muted in the mix vocals, personally prefer them when they lean into more folk rock on follow up records, but this is still a great little record that has somewhat been lost over time, 4 Stars, nice to hear it all the way through again.

Fun 90s rocky album.

This is much better than "Nevermind", honestly. I love the dumb pink cover to death. I'm afraid the top reviews are on the wrong side with this one.

Very good

Pretty good!

That riff on the closing tune is magic. It sounds like 87ish Cure Opener is a corker Guiding star, another good one A delightful listen. This album should be on rotation

been meaning to listen to this album for a while. thanks, generator!! loved it
