Reviews (page 6 of 14)

This album became very interesting. Cool sounds, unusual chords, and ethereal vocals. Felt kinda progressive. It was a lot of fun!

The 80s personified

what a killer debut opening track. unfortunately kinda zoned out while working and listening throughout the album after that. I did like the marching band sounds of Cloudbusting. I liked how haunting Under Ice is. Waking the Witch was awesome and weird and completely unexpected. The return to instrumentals for a subtle pop song at the end with The Morning Fog was a nice reset from some of the art pop sensibilities on the past few songs. Overall enjoyed Kate Bush's creative decisions and this album's explorations, even if it did not necessarily cement itself as one of my personal favorites for this listen.

Keep running up that hill/5

Smasher.

Music to smash Venca to.

💜KATE💜

Unique doesn’t begin to describe her sound. I was surprised by how much of this album I enjoyed.

Honestly I wasn't suuuper in the mood for this today, but it's still a beautiful listen, and Cloudbusting is one of my all-time favorites. It's Kate Bush. It's a great album.

Having watched enough Stranger Things, I am somewhat familiar with the 1st song. But beyond that, everything is new to me. Surprisingly, I found this album pretty damn good. Is it the best thing I've ever heard? No. But based on what my preconceptions were I'd say I was more than just a bit surprised to have enjoyed this as much as I did. I am an "Enthusiast" according to this app. I continue along that vein: 4 enthusiastic stars for an artist I would have willingly put down a 1 grand bet in guessing how much I would hate this album. Alas, I would have been 1 grand poorer. Luckily, I am not a betting man.

She's amazing. Great album.

Really good album! The obvious tunes are bangers (Running Up That Hill, Hounds Of Love, Cloudbursting, etc). I think I prefer The Dreaming as an album (just about) but I can see why this is the more popular!

Loved the first half and the last song

kinda eerie ngl

Expansive. Feels maximalist in the number of elements. Especially when compared with the other album by Kate Bush that I'm familiar with: 50 words for snow. Some of the elements don't age super well, especially the synthetic string tones. The sound collages are awesome. The arrangements and composition are ace. Jig of Life is wow

Some bangers

4/5. Alguns clássicos, ótimas melodias e traços experimentais em algumas faixas.

abwechlungsreich und sehr eigener Vibe

I had to break this down track by track to understand my thoughts: 1. "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)" 5 2. "Hounds of Love" 5 3. "The Big Sky" 5 4. "Mother Stands for Comfort" 4 5. "Cloudbusting" 5 6. "And Dream of Sheep" 3 7. "Under Ice" 3 8. "Waking the Witch" 5 9. "Watching You Without Me" 3 10. "Jig of Life" 3 11. "Hello Earth" 4 12. "The Morning Fog" 3 Turns out I think Side A is close to perfect, but Side B I generally consider "mid". And Dream of Sheep" and "Under Ice" are way too slow and underwhelming to continue the story. Waking the Witch is so cool and unique. I found the Jig of Life and the Morning Fog to be the weakest tracks, which is too bad because the latter is the closer. All around my score averaged to a 4, which is still high given the relative weakness of the second half. 4/5

First time listening to Kate. The artistry and variety made me think of Bowie.

Nice one! 1980s revisited, re-seen, re-understood. Versatile, trance-y, spacey

Not sure what to even say about this. I appreciate her as an artist which she clearly is. But this is just not my thing, still probably 4 stars and I like some songs but her voice is just so shrill to me and I really have to be in the mood. Good music. I like all the Irish and Celtic influences here.

good, kind of want more bass in some songs, cool vocals

i like the different moods and sounds in the songs, it gives kind of theatrical vibe to the album

Loved this. It doesn’t sound like anything else, and especially nothing else from the mid 80s. LOVE the production choices, the weird noises and instrument choices, and how she uses her voice in unusual ways, even the way she uses a “hey yo” part for backing vocals which sounds odd for some reason but works so well.

sometimes i feel like im climing up this incline again alone but thankully sisypus and the itsy bitsy spider and here with me holy shit is that kate bush

kind of feels like... enya/celtic woman vibes but on coke? or like florence welch. on coke. great vibes though. 'cloudbursting' was a good one

feels good to have this one as my first one. ultimate classic

Ok so I know Kate had her big resurgence with Stranger Things, but I first heard her thanks to a unique—and excellent—cover she did of Elton’s “Rocket Man”. This is exactly the sound I want—like she’s writing an album specifically for the weird outsider teenage girl in a John Hughes movie.

Very interesting album, with progressive ideas and ingesting songs. I liked it

*listened before the project* One of the best white pop albums, and the cover is so gorgeous. But the second half is still exhausting.

loved it , weird in an awesome way

Love the first song… the last one was good too. Some of the others were a little creepy (mother stands for comfort, waking the witch). Overall super creative but wouldn’t necessarily listen again. Love the dogs on the album cover tho. Witchy vibes, would maybe play around Halloween??

First half is far superior to the second half

didnt like deal with god much but Hounds of love was really interesting i like the production of it and the beat was really good i like couldbusting the repeating yeahs are cool, sound like a hype up song but sad? didnt think i would hear distortion like that but it definatly makes sense for the track i like the jig of life after everything i think it was good but not for every day

This album surprised me in a good way. Great song to start and the album constantly transforms and experiments as it goes on. I'll add this to my library. Great use of the violin 🎻

Such a witchy album!

While this album doesn’t “blow me out of the water”, there’s a lot to like here and a lot of experimentation that pushes the boundaries of pop music that I respect greatly. I can hear Chapelle Roan from this, and I would be shocked if Kate Bush wasn’t an influence of hers. I loved Jig of Life, was a really fun track. Obviously Running Up That Hill is the most famous song, and rightly so. Great album, deserves to be a 4 star.

A fun and interesting listen, but probably won’t be on repeat. Favorite songs were Running Up That Hill (obvious choice) and Cloudbusting.

absolute cinema

Hounds of Love is a genuinely unique and innovative pop record, and still sounds unlike anything else from its era. It’s a thrilling listen from start to finish, balancing accessibility with ambition in a way very few artists manage. Every song feels purposeful and fully realised. The music is rich and inventive, while the lyrics are vivid, story-led and deeply imaginative. Bush comes across not just as a pop star, but as a poet and conceptual artist, weaving emotion, drama and experimentation into songs that remain instantly engaging. Favourite tracks: Running Up That Hill and Hounds of Love – iconic, timeless pop songs that fully deserve their iconic status. Least favourite track: Waking the Witch was very odd. Album artwork: A cool, distinctive cover that perfectly matches the album

Maybe the best pop album of the 80s next to Songs From The Big Chair. Still sounds amazing. Hounds of Love can be overwhelming at times, it's more like a record for a special occasion.

12/30/25. I've heard so much about this album and I understand why it's so popular. Very expansive and nothing seems off-limits when it comes to its sound. Really enjoyed it on my first run, but will need more listens.

I knew Kate Bush, but hadn’t listened to this record in its entirety. Of course I know Running Up That Hill, and it’s a great one, so no initial thoughts with that tune. But then 2 more songs in, and I’m thinking “”Eureka! Kate Bush was Björk before Björk was Björk!” So many similarities in the way Bush uses her voice as an instrument to the way Björk does. Really cool. Anyway, lot to like here, but some I didn’t (Waking the Witch was like nails on a chalkboard). Bush was truly an innovator in pop and the stuff she did set the stage for many to follow.

Really good!

- already somewhat familiar (specifically with running up that hill due to strager things) - running up that hill - catchy and recognizable - i love her voice - hounds of love - i like the string instruments in the back and the vocals - the big sky - makes me feel like im driving into the distance on a summer day - it feels kinda relatable cuz id kill to be a kid just looking at the sky again - potential fav - mother stands for comfort - the intro with the drum beat made m eexpect something more upbeat - its not something i might listen to regularly - kinda reminds me of some of mitskis newer stuff - cloudbusting - love the backtrack - sounds so familiar but cant place it - i love how she makes music out of stories and books like wuthering heights and i lowk wanna try that - potential fav - she always has such cool back tracks - and dream of sheep - piano reminds me of mama im coming home by ozzy - makes me lowk sad and its very emotional - familar and sad themes - under ice - this makes me feel like im walking to battle - idk if id listen to it much more but i understand the potential appeal - waking the witch - i really like the shift from the intro to the vocals and music coming in - i love how you feel you are going thru the experience in the song watching you without me - vibey - its neat how shes telling a story and connecting all these songs as this girl lost at sea, then witch hunted and now continuing to watch over her lover - like the reverse vocal thing - witchy vibe - i realy like how she adds in sea elements woth that theme of being lost at theme thru the songs - jig of life - this being a future self giving a pep talk is lowk perfect cuz id kill for that future me to come give me a pep talk rn to push thru - like the folky scottish sound with the like pipes and fiddles - hello earth - not my usual sound but looking up background on it its super cool that she used the part from noseferatu - the morning fog - lowk wanna learn the guitar/mandolin? or wtv that is part - rlly like it - feels like spring - this album feels like an early spring morning where theres a crispness to the air but you have the warm sun shining on you and all the snow from thwe winter is slowly melting - fav - the big sky or cloudstopper but more the big sky - least fav- under ice - would listen to again and adding favs to my playlist!!

Heard it already. Awesome.

Interesting bit. Made me uneasy at the start, but maybe it's because I've slept so little. Weird, dreamy pop, a little bit Jim Steinman inspired if I may hypothesize.

I mean, c’mon. It’s Kate Bush. Never given a Kate album a full listen though in fairness. What the hell is happening in “Waking the Witch” 😭😭

"Aerial" is similar but even better.

Kate Bush is coo

She’s got that very ’80s vibe that still feels completely unique all these years later. Hounds of Love is the perfect mix of her theatrical instincts, fantastical lyrics, dreamy voice, and a surprisingly danceable sound. And what a feat - to go so low-key for so long and then resurface in such an epic way with her music featured in Stranger Things. Her creative journey must make her giggle all the time.

The first time I heard her was in Stranger Things, and I love this album like Max. I really love Cloudbusting, And Dream Of Sheep, Running Up That Hill

Quite a good album. Pretty different from what I've heard before; though that's not a bad thing.

4/5 ♡ cloudbusting hounds of love running up that hill

zo’n unieke sound en experimenteel i love it

Good album. Running Up That Hill, Big Sky, and Cloudbusting are great songs. The second half “Ninth Wave” wasn’t as approachable or pop friendly but it was an impressive showcase of Kate Bush’s creativity and her use of technology/sampling.

I own this cd but haven’t listened to it in probably 25 years. Running up that hill and Could busting are favourites. She’s always had a different sound, pretty and haunting. Not on this album, Wuthering Heights should be checked out if you liked this. 3.5 stars. Rounding up for this one.

Favourites: ★ Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) ★ And Dream of Sheep The Morning Fog

Great discovery and overall a great time. Beyond the world famous "Running up that hill" I was pleased to discover a lot of cool songs, with changes in style. Standouts: Waking the Witch, Watching you without me, Mother means comfort.

I didn't realize this STARTS with "Running Up That Hill". Talk about a hot start. This list has exposed me more and more to Kate Bush, having already gotten her albums released before and after this one specifically. "Hounds of Love" definitely represents a step up from her previous works, almost sounding more complete and put-together, thanks in part to the heavy chorale and classical arrangements mixing with "modern" instrumentation (synthesizers, primarily). It really puts everything on a pedestal, raising everything to an operatic level, which is really the only way Kate Bush's artiness and songwriting can be captured I think.

I love the revival of this album because of current television and culture. She’s so good!

Great album. I remember her as the floaty weirdo that girls like but this is a triumph

I think this album is fantastic. Of course, I didn't discover it until Stranger Things 4 featured Runnin' Up That Hill- inarguably the biggest hit of the album. But the rest of the album is cerebral, layered with instruments, and excellently produced- it was self-produced afaik. It also feels personal, not like a product of a studio or an artistic compromise. Highly recommend for both the auditory entertainment and the cultural significance in music history.

My interest started going down at Waking the Witch. Otherwise a really good album.

Great album. Varied and interesting with the skein of her odd voice rubbing through it. I guess I'm a sucker for unusual singers. I quite enjoy rush. I feel like folks either love or hate them. Wake the witch and the first track are standouts here for me.

amazing album, never listened to it all before. I only knew the singles.

my queen

I'm not sure I've listened to this entire album before. Thoroughly enjoyed it, what a magical voice she has

A Classic

I'd not listened to this album for about 40 years and it's a bit of a revelation. In my callow youth I was obviously distracted by the bangers on Side 1 (in old money). And Cloudbusting is still the stand out for me. But all these years later it's Side 2 that's the revelation. I had no idea it was so good. It's like nothing I've heard in pop, apart from the brief helicopter quote from The Wall (can that really be right?) It carries you more like a good piece of classical music. Maybe I was just too busy doing student stuff to bother turning the record over... My only downer would be that over use of the Fairlight mars the production somewhat (a curse of many mid-80s albums). A very solid 4*.

A lovely introduction to this new project, seeing as I had already listened to Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) through its inclusion in the soundtrack for the fourth season of Stranger Things on Netflix. I'm currently in a pretty stressful period for any student with finals, and listening to this album helped calm me down in some way and actually made me sit down this afternoon and continue cramming. The night before, I started listening and had an almost religious-like experience with And Dream of Sheep. I would say those two, along with The Big Sky, were my three standouts on first listen. Some tracks are quite a bit more experimental than others, and I know that with further listens, I will come to enjoy them even more. For now, this was a great fun listen with some really great standouts, first instinct tells me 4 stars, so that is what it will get.

I wish I could explain why I like this album so much that I find myself revisiting it over and over. Maybe it's her voice? Maybe the arrangements? There's a magic here I can't put my finger on, I need to stop asking why and just enjoy it

Great pop music. Great voice. Mystical. Great lyrics. Interesting song constructions. Earlier introduction to Kate Bush through Peter Gabriel, not just a Stranger Things hype. Truly the type of pop I like, when its progressive.

This was a good revisit. It's not quite for me as it once was, and in a way it never quite was, but it's very beautiful, expressive and perfect. Big big sounds. Drums like thunder. Deep emotions. Flouncing.

Amazingly creative artist, unfortunately now known for one song and it’s now owned by Stranger Things

Made in her own barn, which is impressive. The album makes me drift and dream.

we’re cloudbusting daddy!

interesting. would probably grow on me with a couple more listens.

Really creative and clever lyrics, and unique to her style. Enjoyed a lot

L F G - also with stranger things coming out?? timing!!

Running up that hill is a classic, but this is overall really interesting. I really liked the song Watching You Without Me. This immediately followed by some irish shit is so tough. Really good album.

This album reminds me a lot of Tori Amos—at least when it leans into the piano rather than the synthesizers. Kate Bush was never really in my wheelhouse, especially not back in 1985. She just never seemed to show up on the radio or MTV during those impressionable years. I always assumed she was one of those underrated UK artists that only certain listeners knew about, only learning about her three decades later. That said, the album was much more enjoyable than I expected, even with “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” being so overplayed in 2022 thanks to Stranger Things Season 4. While there were a couple of tracks I didn’t care for—specifically “Waking the Witch” and “Watching You Without Me,” mostly because the strange skipping, stuttering background vocals felt a little unsettling—I thought the album overall was really solid. Hats off to Kate Bush for this one. I’m not sure I’d rank it as highly as some fans and critics do, but it was absolutely worth the listen, and I’m glad it made the 1001 Albums list.

Magnificent

Funnily enough I got this on the day I lwatched the stranger things finale which features the first song. Where I live in Sydney each winter they have a Kate Bush day in the local park - hundreds of people turn up wearing red and black a la Wuthering Heights and dance to that I’m the park, and then run up a little hill lblasting Running Up that hill. Anyway. No one else sounds anything like this - what a crazy, cool album.

Good 80s pop

"Mother stands for comfort", great great song 👌

I'm a person who is very critic with 80's pop music as I find it to have the worst sound in comparison with another trending styles. I think the synths sounded super cheesy and the drums artificially loud. But once in a while, I'm wrong, and it feels great to be wrong. This album is one of those moments, since this record sounds fantastic, and it manages to sound incredibly big thanks to the spectacular orchestration. Ironically, this album starts with the only song that follows a way more conventional pop song structure. 'Running Up That Hill'. There are synths, guitar, drums and vocals as any other hit from that time. But it is incredibly well done. But then the song 'Hounds of Love' comes, and it is when the string instruments start to appear, and apart of Kate's singing, they are going to be the main protagonist of the whole album. Well, I said that, but in the following song, 'The Big Sky', what truly shines is the incredibly funky bass. Still has some particular moments of big orchestration, like the start or the piano that is in the background of the whole track. However, everything is overshadowed by the superb bass. So, after the very energetic opening with these three songs, the album lands in its first slow moment, 'Mother Stands for Comfort', and what an incredibly powerful track. It talks about how much a mother figure is capable of doing for her children, (which makes it already a standout), while Kate gives the most calm, impactful and sincere performance of the whole project. Then comes 'Cloudbusting', which brightens the mood left by the previous song by bringing again those spectacular string melodies. So catchy and strong. It may not be as energetic as the first songs, but still a highlight for how beautiful it is. After it, is the song 'And Dream of Sheep', a very subtle track, but also the first one that I'm not that crazy about. It sounds wonderful though. However, the following song may be one of my favourites. I love how intense and serious 'Under Ice' sounds. The combination of Kate's singing in a very low register and the low string melodies are absolutely fantastic. Next is 'Waking the Witch' a very interesting song thanks to its narrative. It starts with a very beautiful piano and a lot of voices asking Kate to wake up. Then the piano is interrupted by Kate's glitchy voice, followed by a very low and spectral voice which will be interchanging lines with the singer. Mixing all of these elements with the casual prays Kate recited, the song ends up creating this narrative of her waking up frightened while something is trying to posses here, and she trying to escape it. Thankfully, things calm down with the song 'Watching You Without Me'. It is very similar to 'And Dream of Sheep' in both being subtle and how I feel about it, but this one does something very cool that the other doesn't. In this cut, Kate sang the lyrics backwards, but then she reversed her voice so anyone could understand what she is saying while giving it a very peculiar effect. And then comes 'Jig of Life', a very charming and catchy Irish folk song, followed by 'Hello Earth' a song that feels slow but also has two very dramatic and powerful build ups with big choirs and strings, that I wish didn't end so drastically. Finally, the last track 'The Morning Fog' ends the album in a charming and positive note way. I have to say that I don't think it is that strong of a song, specially considering it is the ending, but still great. In conclusion, this album is super fun and colorful, packed with some incredibly ideas and performances.

Interesting topics throughout

Awesome in any time period, but for 1985 this was downright revolutionary.

7/10 Favorite: Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)

Great album from Kate Bush never listened to this album fully and found some of the songs quite mysterious in nature. Would definitely listen to this again

84% Best: Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God); The Big Sky; Cloudbusting; Waking The Witch; Hello Earth Must-Hear? Sure

I really like this - very unique you don’t hear many albums like this! Very ethereal - I can’t see myself coming back to the second half of this album but I like the first half - a little more then a 4 for me like 4.3 - I really liked big sky

Surprisingly good. I have never been a fan of Kate Bush, but listening to the whole album at once was enjoyable. I liked the abstract bits and didn't find her voice as jarring as listening to the singles on radio 2.

Kate Bush has a talent for taking somewhat simple beginnings on songs and turning them in songs that feel MASSIVE ( Cloudbusting, Jig of Life, Running Up That Hill). This album makes you feel with so many of its songs like you are just shy of making a break through, right on the edge of something. Others like Under Ice, Waking the Witch take that to more of a level of feel like in a thriller movie where something is about to catch up with and get the protagonist. Not every song is a classic, but when this album does hit it hits hard. (I've loved Cloudbusting and RUTH(DWG) for over five years since I first heard them back just after covid, so I am a little biased towards them already)

Way ahead of her time superb album, the closest to a modern day equivalent would be Florence and the machine.

Although I love this album...obviously the pinicle of her career...I don't find it as accessible as her debut album The Kick Inside...though I'm sure to be in the minority of Kate Bush fans...truth is o prefer The Red Shoes...only my opinion.

I was absolutely taken with this. I love arty, creative people just following thier muse wherever it leads. It’s baroque, operatic, beat-heavy, and timeless. It’s a 4.5 on first listen and could easily grow to a 5.

Good album in general. At some points unfortunately too experimental, otherwise it would have been a 5/5.

Kind of weird near the end, but also has some great songs - it grew on me more with every listen.

I’ve already been a fan of this album and Kate Bush’s brand of dreamy, literature-inspired pop. It was nice to give this one a listen again.

On the one hand it’s a superior but of mid 80s pop. On the other the arrangements and production is avant garde.

Although it's probably not an album I'll likely reach for again, it's everything a good album should be. Interesting, adventurous, and takes you to the places the artist intended. I look forward to listening again when I start the list over.

Lovely.

Whilst I don't always love Kat Bush's music, there's no denying her creative vision and dedication to producing the songs she wants to make. This album, then, perfectly encompasses that vision and makes for a rich and rewarding listen.

Already a fan, what a woman

The classics on this album have bumped my score up to a 4. Best song Big sky.

This is one that I never would have listened to if it weren't for this project. l played through it a couple times today. It's... interesting to say the least. I can 100% hear Tori Amos and Fiona Apple being influenced by this album. It's got moments that really stuck to me. Waking The Witch comes to mind. It's not at all what I would typically put on to listen to. A bit too 80s Laura Branigan pop in general production for my taste, but there's something about her voice and style... I'm going to have to come back to this one to really dive into it. It may just go into rotation. Soft 4.

Really enjoyed this. The singles in particular are brilliant. Non singles I loved include under the ice. The album feels more like a novel. The last song, The Morning Fog is actually amazing.

that girl! she walked so everyone else can run

Favorite tracks: Running Up That Hill, The Big Sky, Jig of Life This album was really fun, Kate Bush has a beautiful but completely unpredictable voice and style. A few bits were a little more experimental than I would care for, but this album definitely deserves its place on this list.

Album No. 0045 on my list. Phew, I find it hard to come up with a rating for this album. First of all, it's not a bad one certainly, so I'll give it more than two stars. Second, I don't think it will ever become an all-time favorite, so I won't give it five. It's either three or four stars. And I think that I'll give the album four after all. Beyond the iconic "Running Up That Hill", there are some pretty good songs in the first half of the album ("The Big Sky", "Cloudbusting"), and why I didn't enjoy the scond half as much, I can still appreciate the interesting, creative idea of combining half a "regular" and half a "concept" album. Beyond, while I'm not the biggest fan of Bush's voice, I appreciate her singing technique, and some of the music of this album feels pretty modern for a 40-year old album actually. So in the end: 4/5 stars!

I rarely listen to Kate Bush, but when I do, I usually enjoy it. That's how I felt about this album. It was nice to hear it again, and I'll probably listen to it again. But probably not in the near future. 4/5

Never listening to Kate Bush loads but I totally get it, amazing depth and incredibly experimental and innovative. Some absolute incredible bangers and look at that fucking album cover!

really good, didn't realize some of these songs were used in movies and social media. know i know the names of them

An album of weird bangers. I'm more of a Tori fan, but this is Kate's best.

Kate Bush is pretty pretty good. Art Rock. 4.49 stars

Baby's first art-pop record, and a good one too. Kate Bush literally owns the word baroque with one of the best and luscious, orchestrated pieces ever put on record. Combined with a couple of 80s synths and you get yourself an ethereal experience. Perhaps it is a frontloaded album with a lukewarm back half, but the highs are too high for me to care. Favorite tracks: Running Up That Hill, Hounds of Love, The Big Sky, Cloudbusting, Hello Earth, The Morning Fog

Whacky and theatrical. Equally feels ahead of its time and also perfectly 80s. Some really gorgeous songs on here, proper emotional storytelling. I get why people are turned off, it's a thin line of w*nkiness

Pretty strong a side but it fizzles out a bit

Great album A few skips Kinda like Stevie Nicks

Great artist, pretty good album. A lot of lyrical imagery and inspiration, unafraid of layering innovative sounds and synth. The album experience is pretty coherent — but I just don't enjoy all of the tracks, though I find some of them are brilliant. 4.5/5

i like the variety in the songs makes for a more interesting album

This album is just beautiful. The one thing I just love about kate bush is it just sounds... always so interesting, she'll just take any and every reference of music she finds across the globe and fuse them together. Also running up that hill has been kinda saved on me, i'm sure i'd hate to listen to this if this was in 2022 haha.

Dramatic feeling

Who doesn’t love Kate Bush? I mean I only have one song by her but she has such a distinctive voice. And what a haunting album, “Let Me Dream of Sheep,” “Waking the Witch,” and “Watching You Without Me” are wild. I think it was so consistently good it’s a four.

I really enjoyed this album, despite not being my favorite genre. Kate Bush is like an 80’s new wave Chappell Roan.

Started strong (Hounds of Love, Big Sky, Cloudbusting) but much weaker in second half (Waking the Witch, Hello Earth), but Morning Fog just tips it to a 4

The good kind of cheesy.

kate bush is very cool

I knew the first song (of course), but the rest of the album is quite good too. Artsy but not pretentious.

Started off great with Running Up That Hill, but the rest of the album was disappointing. Squeezes a 4 purely off the back of the opening track.

Didn't blow me away but I enjoyed having it on in the background, would listen again.

I like this album, it's has some weak points but it's good. 4/5

Mieleenpainuvimmat kappaleet ekan lisäksi olivat kaunis pianokappale "And Dream Of Sheep" ja "Jig Of Life".

Vägevätä on. Kelpaa juu.

kate bush 🤩

Awesome album. Running up that hill is iconic

Doing POP the right way, Kate Bush was an underdog of the early pop sound and I'm glad her legacy has a renewed interest from younger people.

Favorite tracks: Running Up That Hill, Hounds of Love, Cloudbusting, The Morning Fog

The crossover of Kate Bush and Morrissey is not talked about enough.

Such a great sound!

Such a unique voice, I’m glad to have finally listened to this VERY famous album

The hits are excellent - the rest ok - overall pretty good

I wish I would’ve heard this before Stranger Things. Some of these songs are official knee slappers.

Real men sit down and listen when Kate Bush begins to sing ethereally about, well whatever she’s singing about

Weird in a good way? Sounds ahead of its time for the era it was released

maybe a 3.5 stars

4/5 Running up that hill is the best song on the album. Way more psychedelic than I anticipated.

Hounds of Love is an album split into two halves, each showing a different side of Kate Bush’s artistry. The first half is packed with some of her most accessible songs, with “Running Up That Hill” setting the tone through its pulsing rhythm and emotional intensity. The title track and “The Big Sky” follow with a mix of theatricality and pop craft, proving that Bush could make music that was both adventurous and instantly memorable. Every song in this section feels sharp and full of life, with her vocals guiding the listener through big emotions and vivid imagery. The second half, known as The Ninth Wave, shifts into something more ambitious and atmospheric. It is a suite of songs that tells a story of a woman lost at sea, blending dreamlike passages with moments of drama and unease. Tracks like “And Dream of Sheep” and “Hello Earth” stand out for their beauty and sense of scale, showing Bush at her most imaginative. The production is dense but never cluttered, layering sounds in a way that rewards close listening. What makes the album so special is the balance between pop immediacy and artistic ambition. Few artists could pull off an album this bold without losing focus, but Bush manages it with grace and confidence. Hounds of Love feels both intimate and grand, playful and serious, and it captures an artist in full control of her vision. It is a deeply rewarding listen that still feels fresh and unique decades later.

This is too sophisticated for a simple pop album. So much creativity. The album is more than just its singles.

Tim face. 4.5

Quite experimental for a pop artist. Surprisingly good.

Running Up that Hill au trotz TikTok überfluetig en Banger. Vier pain au chocolat

Uhaaahee running up that hill vor vlt 1-2 jahr (wieder)entdeckt und hed mi seeehr catched. 4fromaggi us frankriich

ja das schmöckt halt scho sehr «Running Up That Hill» scho sehr guet, aber trotzdem bizli overrated und fast chli nervig teilwiis… aber das chömmer vilicht eifach au de tiktokifizierig zueschriebe. eigentli no schade «Cloudbusting» defür absolute standout & min lieblings kate bush song hed spass gmacht

Hounds of love features some of Kate Bushes biggest yet it is still very experimental at times. It doesn't always work, but it's daring and great.

yo ive alr heard ts one but ig we listening to it again ty shi IF I ONLY COULD MAKE A DEAL W GOD AND GET HIM TO SWAP OUR PLACES

This is very Irish. In a good way. It's putting Celtic instruments into new wave-y pop-rock. I'm always at least intrigued by pop music that mixes regional sounds into the standard Western mainstream, and this delivers on that. I might be overrating this a bit, but I don't think I'll regret it.

A couple of very good ones. The rest was ok

She rips. I don't care for the jig, but HERE I GO

A pleasant surprise. A lot of really advanced production for the time. Samples and digital mixing. Very cool.

8/10 - an amazing album, everyone will know at least one song on this album, Hounds of Love is a particular fave

She has a very powerful voice 6.5

Melodic, weird, atmospheric- it’s nice. The second side is really interesting as well. I’d normally give this a three but I can tell this is the kind of album I’ll be coming back to so I can figure it out. FOUR STARS

An LP that sticks two fingers up to my prejudice against singer-songwriters and my lack of interest in most artists beyond the 2nd album

'That cloud, that cloud / It looks like Ireland / Come on and blow it a kiss now.' Kate Bush may make demands on the listener, but that's a welcome incursion. She also makes love w/ her listener, swaggering a voice that's soulfully operatic and outlandish. Terms like 'performative' and 'embodied' have invaded academic criticism - overused and now mere placeholders - but Hounds of Love is exactly that. It's literary performance - it even flirts w/ prog sensibilities, tho thankfully never succumbs to them - but it's also something w/ marrow and muscle. The second half is definitely wackier than the first, and not always pleasurably eccentric, but it's mostly quirky w/o being quackery. At her best, she's a rare pop artist & a very cool lady.

More alternative then I expected

Creative, interesting, pretty

First song awesome. Other songs meh

Running Up That Hill jest dobre ale to Cloudbusting jest on top.

Loved the first five and then it fell off for me.

Kate Bush, Hounds of Love ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Eighties goodness. I can't tell you how pleasing it is to hear the first sounds of this album, Bush's Yeh-Yeah, Yeah, Yooooo s in Running Up That Hill and then the equally pleasing Doo-doo--doo-doo s and girl-like When I was a child, ...afraid of what might be and I don't know what's good for me and take my shoes off and THRRRROOOWWWWW them in the lake parts of Hounds of Love. You'll just have to imagine what it's like. Kate's always been like my mother. Though more accurately like the age of a kind older cousin from across the country who I get to see at family reunions. And I'll echo what others have said, that it's gorgeous, ethereal pop music (the Fairlight sounds made by her bandmates, maybe her brother, are just dreamlike) for the first half. And then the second half fades and turns into this wood-fluted celtic stuff that's reminiscent of Enya (though more accurately Bush would have inspired Enya, but none of it's particularly great, either woman's pub reels) and so we cap it at four stars. Fave on this one: Cloudbusting: an odd song, but not ruined by f'ing Stranger Things, so that's nice.

I like the style of her voice and mix of song types.

Great album.

Starting off with Running up that hill is a banger of a choice. love jig of life

Many negative reviewers of this album are listening to it now and forgetting that when it was released. what she was doing then was adventurous and very much against the norm. Yes, there were other bands doing the same, but few and far between. It is interesting and diverse with a wide array of different styles and sounds, all perfectly packaged with her mystic vocals underlying and re-enforcing the central themes of the album. I really enjoyed Hello Earth. I would not mind owning it.4 stars

This album sounds like it could come out today and fit in with any of the most popular albums that are being released. I'm not sure if that's a testament to the staying power of this album or if that speaks to the cyclical nature of popular music. I can definitely hear how Kate Bush influenced some of the more popular female pop stars today -- most notably Chappell Roan.

It started in a dream or a vision with a man who had the open Hollywood pulsating sore going to a restaurant and infecting others. Maybe I entered the vision but I tried to stop him. Instead I ended up at a family reunion at a park in the mall. First I went to a different park and I noticed where on a table with tvs someone had donated old gaming systems with games. There was a man and his son playing a type of Mortal Kombat. The rest were Pokémon games or pieces of them, maybe a Sega Genesis or a knock off a Sega G. Either way I rolled all these pieces up and took them to the family reunion and gave them to my son who was already playing video games with my nephew. My mom started calculating money I owed which came to $41. I felt guilty about taking the games and ran through the mall falling into a series of obstacle courses. One being a giant pool that would pour what on the outside looked like the substance of sour Gummi worms. Through that was a horse race. Then a woman started chasing me. I felt like she knew about the gaming stuff in my hands which was slowly turning into just plastic pieces in a cloth that I was carrying with both arms. She shouts at me and I ignore her. She says something that I don't remember but I replied no I'm known for my sober living. Then she shouts out a name Jessie Davis or something. Never heard of them. Then the strange woman with bobbed hair and thick glasses shouts out my name. I feel fear and I'm lost in this shopping carnival Maze. I bump into things and people the memory fading or too surreal to describe but I make it to the other park and what I drop down to the table is not what I took. And people notice. The man playing mortal kombat with his kid tells another man he learned the game is too violent for his son. I run through the Maze again and it's different with pastel colors but I find a huge glass exit and run out to a pink sky. I don't know where my car is.

Tragically it was far too experimental for American ears in the way it takes some pop sounds of it’s time and twirls them all up into a fantastical, transcendental world. Stranger Things really got it right in spotlighting the opener on this record. “Cloudbusting” kinda double dips on that drum pattern from the first song too but I’m not complaining. “Under Ice” has some crazy vocoder work for its time and place. “Waking the Witch” may be my favorite for its insane musical theater work. This album feels deeply effeminate, so instead of grandstanding about it I feel like I wanna offer something more unique - my modern comp to the sound Kate Bush pioneered. Oklou’s Choke Enough had a similar airy, ethereal, often drumless quality to it. 4/5

3 of her best songs on one album! Worth a good review, just for that

Some all-time-stone-cold-classics on here but not my favourite.

first half is an incredible pop record. the second half is more experimental. its dark and moody, almost haunting in a way. its good but unlike the songs on the first half, not something im likely to revisit.

An album you have to hear to believe. The first five tracks are banger after banger and then the remaining tracks are a suite depicting a drowning? Something only Bush could have pulled off.

Amo a Kate Bush

I like this for the same reasons I enjoy Florence and the Machine. The same dramatic, earthy, witchy whatever. Hounds of Love and Under Ice are my big standout tracks

Ethereal is the word that came to mind when I put this on. I really enjoyed the album. Standouts were "Running Up That Hill", "Hounds of Love" and "Jig of Life“.

Lovely album of the back extremely popular Kate Bush, in Europe. Very surprised it seems lesser known in the US / globally but I guess Stranger Things fixed that many decades later...

IMO this is the best Kate Bush album I’ve listened to

Unique, some of it a little tedious but overall groundbreaking and interesting.

Great album. Some really cool songs on it. Standout songs: Running up that hill Hounds of Love Waking the Witch

Bangers!

I fully expected to struggle through this album. Before today, I’d heard Running (liked it) and Wuthering Heights (did not like it). Three listens in and I am absolutely in awe of this record. The first side is pretty close to perfect. Just outstanding pop music that sounds like nothing that came before. And obviously influenced a LOT of what came after. Side 2 is an interesting cycle, and I enjoy it overall, but it doesn’t hold my interest quite as much, esp the jig, but whatever, step up to the plate and take a big swing. Kate connects way more than she whiffs here. This should have been massive here in the States but apparently we preferred Bananarama.

Mistress of mysticism, second half experimental Running up that hill Hounds of love Jig of life

While I enjoyed the album, I would not put it on my personal 1001 list.

Kate Bush can be quite divisive but I think she’s great. A unique artist with a distinctive sound and not afraid to experiment

I’m kind of glad it took me until this list to listen to this album as I don’t think am 18 year old me would have appreciated it. However as a 50 year old I really liked this a lot. Apart from the classics a lot of the others were really listenable and grew on me the more I listened. As an overall album it really is very good.

Very familiar with "Running Up That Hill" after hearing it on Stranger Things a few years ago and playing it over and over like everyone else did, so I was happy to give this album a shot. Really enjoyed it. I know a lot of people talk about her songwriting abilities, but I didn't pay too close attention to her lyrics since there's a lot going on here...sonically, a really cool album. Giving this a 4. Not sure if I'd return to it, but I'm glad to know this album has more to offer than "Running Up That Hill." "The Big Sky" was another banger. I also liked "Under Ice" and "Jig of Life."

unbelievably imaginative and original and fun! honourable mentions for me are running up that hill and mother stands for comfort

Really stands on its own in that era of music, lots of interesting unconventional tracks

What a great album. Jig of Life rules.

Haunting iconic voice. Varied tracks. So great. I’d listen to it again.

The Hounds Of Love.

Sounds a bit “concept”-ish in some of the tracks, but overall, pretty good.

Running up that hill! Nice artsy pop songs. Waking the Witch is nuts and the back half of the album is where it's at. Out there for sure

Pretty good. Feels both very 80s and timeless at the same time. The second half isn’t quite as good as the first but overall I liked this album quite a bit

Splendid

Kate Bush is certainly talented as a singer and songwriter. This album started strong but the second half seemed to flail around a bit without direction. It might be worth a revisit. Of course Stranger Things put her back on the radar, which ain't a bad thing I guess. 3.5/5 #140

Kate Bush rights. Men musicians find it so easy to be weird and find success, but for weird women musicians we've got Kate Bush and Björk--and that's it. I say this with affection because I adore Weird Al and Tom Waits; there's nothing wrong with their music, but women aren't afforded the same opportunities and appreciation. Kate Bush has such a beautiful, beautiful voice that carries well through the album. She uses synth well so it isn't overpowering while still providing unique music. One of the songs has Irish tones, which was a lovely homage since Bush is half Irish.

I've long touted how Tori Amos set the stage for 90s singer-songwriter women, and I stand by that. But it was definitely Kate Bush that set the stage for Tori Amos. And this album largely sets the stage for that movement. Honestly, this album is outstanding. It's quirky and weird but not just for the sake of being quirky and weird; Kate Bush finds outstanding ways to make things musically unique and interesting while still keeping things super listenable. The album has such a strong start with "Running Up That Hill" as the opening track, which musically hits the ground running. There's a unique, percussion-and-piano-heavy, new wave, operatic, orchestral, ritualistic, artsy soundscape all across this song, a general theme that absolutely persists across the entirety of "Hounds of Love". The entire album just feels weirdly magical in nature.

Nice ethereal music. Not always in the mood for this but when I do...

4 Stars because of the Celtic vibes

Promising. I'm on holiday so didn't have time to listen to the whole thing. I've listened in the past and dismissed it as 'not my thing'. But I think this will grow on me. There's clearly something going on here.... I'll listen more when I have the time. 4 stars, for now.....

This album is an interesting ride. from some really absolutely banger in the first half, to a concept album of a darker tone in the second. Weird and wonderful, full of interesting sounds, melodies, instruments and lyrical content.

Better than I thought, not totally my vibe. Should listen again.

Listens: 4 Standout Tracks: Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God), Hounds Of Love, Waking The Witch, Jig Of Life Second Kate Bush album on the List. I enjoyed The Dreaming much more than this, but this was still great. Running Up The Hill was the first Kate Bush song I ever heard (knowingly) and it came to my attention probably the same way as a metric shit-ton of people: Stranger Things. It's a great song; Catchy. I am still chewing on this album. I didn't fully come around to The Dreaming until about 7-10 full listens, and it was only then that I decided to retroactively give it a 5 (up from a 4) and I though I don't think this album is also a 5, I do think it will be something that I will add to my listening rotation. I plan to continue listening throughout the week to further digest the music.

Brilliant, what an influential artist!

Kate Bush is an excellent songwriter and a great artist, I loved how ambitious this album is and how weird she gets, it's a very sophisti-pop record. Being a self-produced album, you can hear her vision very clearly throughout the whole album, and she's bold and uncompromising. The sound here is very 80s, her Fairlight and the synthesized drums give it a super distinctive sound. I particularly liked the atmospheric sounds she gets out of her synth. She can sing really well and does great backing vocals. In terms of songs, the obvious standout is "Running Up That Hill", which has been overplayed like hell thanks to Netflix and TikTok, but remains an excellent track and very catchy, specially the chorus. The first half of the record is very 80s pop, back to back catchy songs. "Hounds Of Love" and "The Big Sky" were great. "Mother Stands For Comfort" is a more laid back track, but I love the weird production. The second half feels more experimental, being a mini concept album. It has like "Waking The Witch" and "Watching You Without Me", with varied vocal tricks and intricate production. The best one here for me was "Jig Of Life", a grandiose track made around traditional Irish music and big, spacious drums. It's a very ambitious track, even the more impressive being self-produced.

This one got better and better. Loved the back half.

This album ran, so may other female composers, singers, and artists could arise in the future! It is always a delight to listen to it again.

1. Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) 2. Hounds of Love 3. Cloudbusting

Dreamy fo sho.

Very nice

This is not a music album - it’s a full audio musical play. I felt like I was watching a musical performance with all those decorations, lightning and Kate Bush dancing and signging. Can’t imagine Kate Bush sitting in a small studio recording this

Uskomattoman uniikkia

Decent

First half is amazing. Second half is inreresting but doesn't bear repeat listens.

The singles are iconic but even the less well known quieter tracks have a almost cinematic quality. Beautiful layers of texture run across the pop first half and the more experimental second. It's wild to have an album that seemlesly manages to celebrate Irish folk and push the boundaries into experimental pop. Strong 4

Superb voice and songs. Ambitious and brave. Would be even better with repeated listening.

A strong mix of huge pop hits sitting neatly alongside spookier experimental offerings. It’s dramatic throughout without ever tipping over into being cheesy. Songs sound meaningful and important without the messages behind them being spoon fed to you. It’s a work of art.

Good album, probably very forward for it's time. Very good and creative vocals but I still find them a bit grating

Standouts für mich: Mother Stands For Comfort Waking The Witch Watching You Without Me Jig Of Life

I came into this knowing Running Up That Hill and thinking it was a pretty cool & interesting song, and that was it. What I did not expect out of this listen was to have my mind absolutely blown by the music! This is such a fascinating piece of music, and while things fell off a bit in the 2nd half for me, when Kate Bush hit the spot, she REALLY hit it. I could see myself getting immersed in this. A very strong album.

pls more 80s music from Stranger Things

Love the synth vibe. Very strong

normally I'm not a fan of concept-type albums but this one works. she's got a funky blend of using different sounds & instruments. her voice is strong & distinctive. can hear how she influenced so many others (Tori Amos, Bjork, Florence & the Machine). Cloudbusting & Morning Fog are great tracks, and so is Running up that hill

Real easy listening. All good songs.

I enjoyed this album. It was weird but entertaining. I already loved Running Ul That Hill (long before it was used on Stranger Things).

Never listened to this album before. Very familiar with the singles, but not beyond that. I can see why now. They’re a bit bonkers. Conceptual pop?

Good one

Too sleepy to say anything useful. Listened to the whole album but had no memory. So at least its not bad. Just too old to my liking. I need a better rating system cause this is actually a 4.2 by yesterday's standard. Or maybe i need a new standard. Or2

i already listened to Running Up That Hill, the rest was hauntingly beautiful too overall

Beautiful. Her voice bounces around in the ether like magic. The album gets weird a few times, but it’s mostly enjoyable.

[4.25/5] Final impression: Experimental, artsy-rock with powerful vocals that conveys an overall narrative. Not much to dislike here. Unique sound at times and consistent quality. Only shame is that the first and second half of the album are so different, they almost deserve to each be their own albums. Definitely stronger in its second half for me. Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/5BWl0bB1q0TqyFmkBEupZy]. Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) - Good instrumentals, god-tier vocals. She has a great voice. I get why this song is as well-regarded as it is. Hounds Of Love - Not especially notable to me aside from being the titular track but I still liked it. I enjoyed the opening. The Big Sky - Catchy tune and beat, hard not to get into it. *Mother Stands For Comfort - Tonally so different from the rest of this album, it demanded my attention. The instrumentals here are sick. The discordance, distant crashing, and pained vocals go so strong with the song title and concept. The combo of the synths with piano is genius. Absolutely fantastic. Cloudbusting - Similar to The Big Sky in that she draws you in with her vocals, catchy. And Dream Of Sheep - Slower than what I gravitate to naturally, but pleasant nonetheless. Under Ice - Good track, nothing of note. Serves as a good transition between what I would describe as the first half of the album and the second more experimental side of the album. Waking The Witch - Second song in this album to demand my attention. A lot more experimental than I expected for this album. Probably tied with Running Up That Hill for second favourite track although I'm guessing this ones a harder listen for most. Watching You Without Me - Has an interesting but alluring sound. I like it. Jig Of Life - Goes well with the previous track. Powerful vocals and a great instrumental. I quite like this one, definitely a stand-out. Hello Earth - Main chorus is fantastic. Rest of the track is also good. The Morning Fog - Somewhat weaker track, but rounds out the album well. Overall notes: Has more of an experimental and rock twinge from what I expected going in. A lot more of a narrative/concept album than I thought it would be from looking at it. Aged well.

A very strong 4 with some heavy heavy hitters all on the first side. Running Up That Hill, The Big Sky, Cloudbusting and Title Track are some of the most gigantic and tastiest productions of the decade (Although Utah Saints did one-up Cloudbusting with their release of Something Good and it’s amazing how much of this album M83 lifted for Saturdays = Youth to maybe even tastier effect). Second side The Ninth Wave is very artsy and ambitious and sweetly folksy and world-influenced but also a tad sketchy and uneven with some choppy, jarring vocals effects and poor choice of spoken word guests and ultimately is not a completely satisfying suite.

Glad I listened to it (finally). I like the first half more than the second half. Thanks, Jeremy

I've loved "Running Up That Hill" since it came out - way before that TV show made it huge again. The older stuff of hers that I've heard, "Wuthering Heights", "Man With the Child In His Eyes", "Babooshka" have all been. . . not favorites, so I avoided trying any whole albums. Pleasantly surprised this was great throughout. Faves: "Running Up That Hill", "Big Sky", "Jig Of Life", "Mother Stands For Comfort" There weren't any tracks I didn't like, but I don't think "Waking the Witch" would work outside the context of the album, so I guess that's be the least favorite.

This was a surprise for me as I had only ever heard Running Up That Hill and nothing else from it. The surprise was that I feel it's the first album on this list that, that I really felt, yeah, I needed to hear this before I die. I listened to it three times to grasp the conceptual side two, which in my opinion is the best part of the album. It's really like two albums, the first side are the singles and the second side is like a Progressive Pop concept album. Running Up That Hill is a five star song in itself. I enjoyed the other tracks on side one, but the standouts were, Mother Stands for Comfort, with that great odd time signature. Also Cloudbusting has a wonderful string melody that just carries the song. The second side and the Ninth Wave suite is a great listen as a whole, its eclectic, very experimental, and at times feels like it's tackling multiple genres. I also watched Daily Doug on Youtube's breakdown of the album, to wrap my head around the concept of side two. He mentions a radio interview, which I must look up later, where Kate is explaining the Ninth Wave and was thinking she needed helicopters in Waking the Witch. She could not find the right helicopter sound, so she got permission to use the sound clip from Pink Floyd's The Wall, which is very cool. I thought they sounded familar.

ohlalal this is fun!! why am i kind of reminded of lorde?? 😋 🧙 jig of life!!!!

Loved this. This album feels irreverent and creative, I may entirely wrong but it came across that Kate Bush is just doing the music she feels like making and it just so happens to be great. There are some absolute classics in the album but the rest of it works too.

Fantastical. Slightly mad and enjoyed the story effect. Very talented singer with great range. Not really explored but nostalgia from my youth played out through my family. I think I need to give this a deeper look.

The album starts with a couple of classics so I was intrigued to hear whether the rest would stand up to their quality... Surprisingly it did. The 80's beats, the synths, the outstanding vocal performance. The great thing about Kate Bush is that she manages to fit perfectly within her time (part of the definitive sound of the 80's) whilst also bringing something new and unique. As usual I'm less interested in the slower tracks like "And Dream of Sheep" but even that didn't make me cringe as much as I usually would. I feel like KB has come in with something truly expressive and original with this album and even though it's outside my usual genre, I'm here for it.

This is a fascinating album. I never listened to the whole thing back in the day, and was delighted by the mix of classics, Running Up That Hill with Under Ice, and the full Irish nod of Jig of Life. Deep, complex, odd, ...moody.

Love that the first song is Max’s song from Stranger Things!!

When it’s good, it’s very good. Running Up That Hill, Hounds Of Love, The Big Sky, and Cloudbursting are great. A couple of weaker tracks in the second half but you can’t fault the artistic vision and uniqueness of Kate Bush’s sound.

the first 5 tracks are incredible

classic

Really liked- will be adding her to the rotation for sure. Didn’t know her music.

She was cookin

I can see the influences to artists like NIN and I love her use of the Fairlight. Good overall album, relatively dark.

Great record! First side is pretty much back to back bangers. Second side is… challenging. Overall a rewarding and worthwhile listen.

Enjoyed this far more than her previous album we had. It's hard to compare Kate Bush to other artists. The top reviewer that says "she doesn't write songs, she creates strange literary fiction" is spot on. Think I said it last time she came up, but there's something about her that's so interesting and alluring to me, not as obsessed as I once was though... I do think this kinda lost it's way a bit towards the end, got a bit too artsy and weird, but the first half is fantastic Highlights: Running up that hill Hounds of love Cloudbusting And dream of sheep

Very cool music

I had to listen to this album more than once. At first I was just kinda meh about it, but the second listen really brought it together for me. The second half of the album is insane. Completely caught me off guard. Very few artists are doing the same sort of thing. Originally I was gonna rate this a 3 but the second listen bumped it up to a 4.

I know Running up that hill from Stranger Things but the whole album is decent. Kate has a good voice. The album does scream 1980s and has the synths to prove it.

I like Kate Bush's album Hounds of Love

Bit cheeky of Utah Saints to base a whole career on "waking the witch" and then sample Cloudbursting for a hit(ish) single. Great album from the always consistent Bush.

One's favorite KB record and very strong overall. "Running Up That Hill" is a great opener, a fully engaging (rather than annoying) earworm, and one of the best songs of the '80s. "The Morning Fog" bookends it excellently well as a strong (if light-touch) closer. So much in between works well – "The Big Sky," and "Cloudbusting" (a master class in using strings in pop music) are both first rate, and title cut and "The Jig of Life" just a touch below. The balance of melodies and drama originality/offbeat-ness are very well balanced throughout.

I know the opener thanks to stranger things. And so many people love that song now. It’s a good song. It’s a little over done for me right now. Looking forward to the rest of the album. Track two “hounds of love” is also good. I’ve heard long time fans rave about her and I’m seeing why. I really like “The Big Sky”. The intro to waking the witch is beautiful. I love the folk feel of “jig of life”.

Very cool album. Kate Bush is very imaginative. The ethereal, creepy tracks made me wonder what it would have been like to hear this album as a kid (probably SCARY). Seems like Bush didn’t care so much about commercial success as she did making music for the art of it, which I appreciate. I read that Bjork was influenced by Kate Bush and that makes so much sense.

Theatrical—that's the best description. It was very well produced, and Kate's voice was amazing. It is highly recommended that you listen to it with headphones while walking around the city (the voices on the record will trick you).

Really enjoyed it, great opening few tracks

Great album!

Kate Bush is the new wave Stevie Nicks, the wise older sister/wild aunt a lot of people need in their lives.. "Running" deserves all the praise it gets, but "Cloudbursting" is the one off this record that still gets to me. Otherwise this album doesn't quite speak to me like it once did. It would probably make for a smash Broadway adaption.

Like Peter Gabriel's so that we had recently, an idiosyncratic pop record with a few banger hits, some introspection, and some dated production choices (fretless bass, tape cutups). Nonetheless, still a good record.

Liked this a lot more than I thought I would, but it took a few listens. Very cool music on here, way weirder than the pop affair I assumed from the cover.

Kate Bush descended from Planet Nine to teach the children about love. But they were obnoxious, so she hooked up with David Bowie to start a nationwide school-lunch program. But Bowie was obnoxious, so she changed clothes and wrote songs about life on her planet, and sang them to us in her alien language, and they were beautiful and strange and captivated our very souls. Bowie hung his head in shame. “What have I done,” he sang to the children, who found him obnoxious.

I have been saved from Vecna 🙏
