Reviews (page 13 of 13)

A couple of bangers but at 2.5hrs a real slog 2 stars

They aren’t the worst dudes playing rock music, but it’s not impressive or particularly interesting? I say that like I finished the album lmao.

#56/1001 🇬🇧 My 2nd Who record in 3. Starts off with the brilliant Baba O'Reilly but goes downhill, by the time you reach My Wife i'm a bit bored. Things pick up towards the end of side 2 with the other 2 singles really shining out here. The overall theme of the record seems to be a chauvanistic tale of a man who gets a "bargain" wife, then goes out on a 3 day bender, his wife leaves him and now he's remorseful for her dumping him. Best tracks: Baba O Reilly, Won't Get Fooled Again.

Nicht wirklich ein Album für mich

+Intro, -Mid, +Outro

I wasn’t sure I would like this but then I was enjoying some of it- some of the instrumental arrangements were cool and unusual, and the vocals were great. And then Behind Blue Eyes came on and it’s just the absolute worst, self involved dreck. Bleh.

Beginning and end of this album can’t save it for me. At its core it is bland at best if not a bit grating. If this list has taught me anything that I didn’t know about my taste at this point it’s that I find most classic rock criminally uninteresting.

Opening and closing tracks are all-timers, everything else is pretty meh

For about 20 years of my life I would have given this 5/5 no problem. Listening to it now, there is simply too much going on. It is jarring to me even though it is very familiar. If I didn't have memories of liking this album, I would give it 1/5. I'll give it 2/5 for the history.

Själlöst 😬

Run of the mill classic rock. Some of it is pretty good when I'm in the mood, but mostly I just don't know what is supposed to be particularly good...besides Baba O Riley.

Very classic, not for me tho. baba o reily is still amazing.

I was appreciating the raw unashamed use of synths - so much music from this time uses them to substitute for an orchestra or something. But ultimately it feels a little bit too much like old white guy rock to me. They seem to have lost that soul feel from the early record. I recognise that my aversion to this style is partly because this band (and maybe one or two like them) made it feel mainstream and unremarkable, but I struggle to listen to it with fresh ears

I know this is filled with well known, iconic songs, but it’s just not my jam. However, I do like: Behind Blue Eyes.

The Who are the least interesting of these legendary British rock bands and they’ve aged the worst. There’s nothing technically wrong here but good god man, shut up!

Crazy like fiddle genre swap in the end of the first song. Some really cool synth bits, interesting harmonic spots and some catchy melodies. But other wise this sounds like proto-prog/dad rock. Corny lyrics a lot of the time (the opening of getting in tune made me laugh) and just generally the sort of classic rock and roll that I’m not a huge fan of. But objectively it’s a tight and high energy album that does go to a lot of different places. Just not my thing.

Boring Dad Rock, nothing interesting to be found here, historically important record for sure but I don't like this style of Rock.

Dad album

The Who, die ersten Mods keine Rocker keine Punks..Pete Townshend, das Cover! ich bin gespannt. und enttäuscht hat schon seine gründe...britpop halt...c

Arena rock, prog rock, soft rock, anything but the progenitors of punk rock, even tho that's how we brand The Who. Is it merely b/c they smashed up their instruments and played loudly that they assume that title? I see punk in The Kinks and The VU, not this wasteland of generic vocals and canned guitar licks. This is one of those records that sounds good but does not, in the end, feel good: too many cliched crescendos, too many moments when the music drops out and Daltrey sings his small heart out. Lyrically, it's awash w/ inane mush and mawkish monuments: 'I'll sing my song to the free, to the free.' Keith Moon was the only genius of the group, but he doesn't have much space to explore. Honestly, they smack of The Eagles.

A nightmare blunt rotation. Pete Townsend got busted for buying CP images online. Roger Daltrey mouths off shallowly-formed right wing talking points in current media interviews. And Keith Moon was a toxic and highly destructive mess who's drumming, about which the best thing one can say, 'is powerful'. I listened to this a lot in High School and College. Long before I slipped off into a still-churning love for pulsing electronics, arpeggiated synths, and hypnotic repetition, I was blown away by the Who's proggy instrumentation on Baba O'Rielly and Won't Get Fooled Again, with not only the synthesizers locking Keith Moon and goons into a groove (yet still with tempo changes!) but also violin. At the same time, I wasn't a total stranger to ideas like this: Rush was one of my favorite bands, and Geddy Lee is underrated for his synth work aside from his bass playing. However, while Rush was already sonically traveling the galaxy, time, and the depths of the mind, it was exciting and refreshing to hear something so down to earth as meat-and-potatoes anthemic radio rock given such an elite treatment. If one cares deeply about dance music crossover hits, and synthetic pop, then in many ways, the Who deserves credit for executing these ideas well before England moved into the New Wave and New Romantic territories of the late 70's and early 80's. My praise for this album pretty much ends there. As Who's Next is a harbinger of modern synthetic pop, it also nails down the shallowness necessary for getting shiny slop on the radio. A new listening this many years later shows me an album of a few standout tracks of fun and attention-grabbing songwriting. The best of these songs fall apart on repeated listen, with uninsightful lyrics that almost seem dumbed down to match a recording industry view of what would fly well as a counterpoint to the puffed up mysticism of Led Zeppelin, the queerness of Bowie, the effeminate and American "Black Culture"-worshiping (via the Stones' fascinated and plundering funhouse mirror of African American music) hypersexuality of the Stones, and the politeness in the heaving dominance of the Beatles machine. The Who clearly borrowed heavily from the can't care-won't care attitudes of the rising Glam movements that were exciting teenagers at the time, while flexing their meaty homophobic biceps (footnote: to Pete Townsend's credit there's an interesting story in the 80s about him attempting to come out as a gay ally, but then getting mistaken for actually coming out to the media, following the release of a very gay song, "Rough Boys" and choosing to backpedal himself into safe "I'm probably bisexual" territory.) to toss out any of the dandy-ism that made Glam a more complete culture (rather than a simple attitude). Then, reaching for synthesizers to add in a touch of futurism. The Who is NEXT, after all. The Who's meathead attitude, willfully dumb lyrics (more on this later), macho rebellion, and carnival trickery embrace of violins and synths come across as a pandering "unite all of England under one recording industry! A "Who's Next" in every home! That will be £1 please." It should be no surprise that Limp Bizkit covered "Behind Blue Eyes", to decent success and a music video. The Who strutted so that Rap Rock could mosh. (And I don't intend to diss Rap Rock or Nu Metal as monoliths here; just taking aim at the most meatheaded "Break Shit" aspects of it.) Regarding lyrics, "Behind Blue Eyes" is an absurdly spot on anthem for white self-victimization. And why does this song remind me of some of the worst toxic people I've ever met? Rich, famous white guy Roger Daltrey is 'misunderstood' and hated. His feelings are hurt and no one helps him and it's actually your fault that he wants to punch things when he gets angry. (I held that this song was cringe well before I learned of Daltrey's vapid and outspoken right wing politics. Go figure--there's a through-line marking the asshole from the 70's to an asshole today.) Despite the great alliterative title and the song working as captivating to put you in Daltrey's head, seeing through his blue eyes, the modern effect of whining through a white guy's blue eyes. (Footnote: For a much more nuanced, introspective, and intelligent-yet-critical, and Christian(!) perspective on cancel culture from a UK white guy who has actually gone through some shit and refuses to paint himself a victim in his incredibly sad songs, read the writings of Nick Cave.) Also, Pete Townsend got busted for buying CP images online.

This kind of rock is just not for me.

The who is very much pete Townshend and others. Daltreys voice is present but very irritating at times. Yet the riffs on baba Oreilly and won't get fooled again are instructive and they certainly make the listener sit up and take notice for a time. The rest of the album is plodding. Not certain that this band can ever be called great.

Pro tip: don't start an obscenely long self indulgent two and a half hour multi disc album with your best track. It's allllllll downhill from there. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Boring dad rock from good musicians.

2.9 — it is easy to listen to but not notable enough for 3

going moblie makes me giggle 🥇the song isn't over 🥈my wife 🥉behind blue

My favourite song from this album was definitely "Getting in Tune" because I enjoyed the variety of the vocals. I also liked "Behind Blue Eyes" (especially the alternate studio version) and "Love Ain't for Keeping" which was a nice short song.

Who? Who? What are you, a fucking owl? Eh, I really wanted to like it. I didn't. That's the review.

I am 100% not the target audience for this album.

I liked this one! I skipped the ones I already knew I really liked ‘The Song Is Over’, never heard that one before. It took me to the deluxe version and I didn’t listen to the repeats and live versions which I think is fair.

This is a classic. Unfortunately I don't really get it. The first song and the last one are great, but the other ones are mostly fillers.

My face when “The Song Is Over” still isn’t over after 6 minutes: [a picture of a my face when “The Song Is Over” still isn’t over after 6 minutes] Also shouldn’t this be called Whom is Next by The Whom?

Always thought they were overrated. My opinion has not changed.

The Who are just so corny and cringe I cannot take them seriously.

Behind Blue Eyes is pretty iconic and the I appreciate Won't Get Fooled Again, but this is not an album for me.Just kind of boring generic rock. 2/5 stars.

Already knew the album, really not my taste. I find it overproduced, the singing very bland, the keyboards cheesy, the guitar technically impressive but boring... Overall I quite prefer their beat period. Won't Get Fooled Again is ok tho.

Baba O’Reilly aside this is proof that you can rehash the same chord progressions over and over and make a record that your lambretta riding uncle will play on repeat to relive his glory days of going to Brighton desperately trying to revive a long since dead scene. Very tedious record.

I see why this is considered to be a good album, but it doesn't do it for me. Sounds like they're trying to be a Hillbilly Elegy version of Pink Floyd, with a side of Tractor Blues. Again, I can appreciate that it is meant to be an exceptionally well made album but there were times when listening to the music was excruciating, especially that godawful 'getting in tune' song, it sounds like a dying dog squealing. Now and then a beautifully made song emerges (Baba O'Reilly and Bargain are the only reason this album didn't get a 1 star) but it is soon replaced by whining and inconvincing attempts at sounding edgy or profound. I will of course give The Who another attempt with their other works but Who's Next is unfortunately a flop for me.

This is a classic. Unfortunately I don't really get it. The first song and the last one are great, but the other ones are mostly fillers.

Enjoyed the hits and the classics but then got very repetitive. I'll jusy stick to the hits

The band that invented the modern teenager, and then abandoned them in pursuit of their own benefit.

Ja, ganz gut.

This was a hard listen for me for some reason, i just don’t mess with most of the songs on here especially the starting few. A 2 is probably harsh but my enjoyment level was that low. Favorite track: Getting in tune

A couple good songs but so very overrated

Big , bold, operatic rock. Much like the live album I listened to on this list, I loved the drumming but at times felt it was a bit muddied in the mix and took a backseat to the (admittedly great) guitar tones. First three tracks are great but then it sort of fell off the cliff until Behind Blue Eyes. The Who have never really appealed; maybe I'm not getting their sense of humour or playfulness but the high-pitched synths and daft lyrics ("I'm an air-conditioned gypsy") turn me off.

Maybe they are the originals of this genre, but it sounds extremely generic.

The who The where The when

Keine Ahnung, was ich davon halten soll.

Haven’t really listened to the who that much, although baba O’Riley gets a few plays being the UFC pay per view kickoff song 😂

A little boring in my opinion, but it definitely wasn't bad.

This album was set for my A-level music as 'set music'. I enjoyed it at the time but it sounds amateur now.

Many classics but Not my Genre.

Good start, couple goodies in there, but wasn’t in the mood

🤷‍♂️

I'm not

I never really got the hype with The Who. A very talented rhythm section let down by Ultimate Shouty Dad Lads in Daltry and Townshend. Won't Get Fooled Again is iconic which earns a second star, but a whole album of this stuff really drags for me.

Bit of a boring album, but have heard worse

Too long. Baba O'Riley stands out. 2.5 really

De e ju den med den där du vet när det bara "blippibluppiblablibleblappi" i typ en timme bror ju If this album was a MtG deck it would be generic midrange Wow this album really only had the first song huh? Music was better back in the day btw People who like ballads should be lobotomized Alright yeehow beep beep was kinda based tho Damn, when Limp Bizkit clears you you should know you're cooked Alright slight recovery made Heheheh tfw im a cool rockstar and have le epic sex amirite?

Jag har rätt svårt för musikalnumren såsom The Song is Over. På plussidan: Baba O'Riley, Won't Get Fooles Again, Going Mobile. I sina bästa stunder härligt skramligt röj.

I enjoyed the sound of the first song. It was interesting hearing a historical rock and roll group.

the audacity of them to release a 9 hour deluxe edition is appalling

I can imagine these songs would be good live. Via headphones, though, the album is so boring.

I’m on board with ‘Baba O’Riley,’ but I don’t think I’m a full-on The Who fan beyond that.

I think I get it, it just doesn't hugely appeal to me. Some of it is great, but it's just a bit proggy and 70's for me?

I’ve had at least two albums from The Who and that’ll do me thanks, don’t need to hear another. I’ll give it 2 to be nice.

-idk. i know this is an iconic album by an iconic band but it just didn’t do all that much for me… i found it to be a bit bland, very much what i’ve come to expect from the 70s rock sound but not exceptional -maybe im being too harsh and ik i’d probably enjoy it more with a second listen but as of now it didn’t stand out. first song is pretty good though -Favorites are Baba O’Riley and My Wife

The who cares again? Also who’s next? Richtigi Frag!

Who? I guess the singles are okay and if you like The Who you'll probably like this but it's not for me

I don't like this band

Every time I hear the start of Baba O'Riley, I think it's going to build into one of the greatest ever rock songs. But it never does.

Favoriten The Song is over Behind Blue eyes To much of anything Baba o‘riley Love aint for keeping

I'm still in the same position as before, where The Who just don't leave a huge impression on me despite them being a generally good band, like this album is good and it's iconic songs are really catchy but I don't feel anything for most of the songs (except Bargain, I like that one). Maybe I'm tired or something but The Who's style of hard rock keeps leaving me cold, the organ is a good touch tho.

Hmmmm... Lot of people looking at this through their nostalgic glasses, and that's ok, but I never got into the Who. I'm fifty one years old, so I've had plenty of chances. Baba O'Riley was good, instantly recognisable. Bargain was middling rock. By the time we get to the second hand country rock of Love Ain't for Keeping, I'm bored. Luckily things pick up again for My Wife, but those lyrics... Anyway, not much of not here. I can't look at this through Vaseline covered lenses of nostalgia. I would never listen to this again on purpose. Still not as bad as Morrissey. Two stars.

One star for each of the two good songs. The rest of the album is pretty average.

Not in the mood for this today. Some random dude played a the Who for me on a ride from Pullman to Spokane all 90 minutes, I wasn’t a fan then and I doubt listening to it today will change that.

If I'm honest, this is background music and not very much fun to intentionally listen to. Kind of like a bad reality Netflix show.

Mochte ich nicht

Average

Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes and Won't Get Fooled Again are classics... the rest of the album is pretty shit (especially bargain). There's a cheesy vibe that just doesn't work for me. The punk edge of my generation is long gone. That was my opinion when I bought this album at 15 and it's still my opinion now.

This was very boring. Not my kind of music at all

Depressing

I’ve never really got on with The Who. As a band they have always felt they’ve tried to cover a few rock subgenres at once, but as a result they never feel like they’re committing to a sound. They’re not heavy or bluesy enough, nor are they psych or art rock enough. They’re have some decent hits like Baba O’Reilly which opens this album, but as a whole they’ve never really clicked into place. This album reflects my feelings of the band, it was alright but didn’t really feel like it was worth a listen.

Better than their k lol ast album we got. But turns out I’m not a huge fan of them

2 good songs A limp bizkit cover The rest filler

Some good songs on there, but these guys really need to learn how to edit and cut songs down.

Fine - pretty uninspiring to me

2.5, rounded down

Background music.

Album is way too long.2 + hours? After a while, I found it boring and I really only like a few of the songs.

So this is psychedelic rock behind blue eyes is a classic. Is this the original? Idk

In the words of Jay-Z, "Grand opening, grand closing.... forgettable middle"

Every song that isn't something I've already heard a billion times is boring as fuck.

the who have always seemed like a band you're supposed to like when you're a rock musician & especially when you're a drummer- nobody tell my dad but i'm just not that into it. i can appreciate their individual skill but outside of the bookends there isn't much on here for me. what happened to writing garage rock adjacent bangers Mr. The Who? i don't think it's a coincidence that the Hits album came sandwiched between rock operas right after they told everybody they sold out i'm just going to enjoy that sick violin solo & be grateful it isn't Tommy instead

Don’t really care for any of this.

The creator must really like The Who

Couple of good songs, lots of filler

Best song by far is "The Song Is Over", Underrated banger, normally can't stand his voice, but in this song it was decent. Wow I can't stand "Getting In Tune"

Zzzzzz.

All i can say is i think townsend was right, this album wouldve been better as a rock operatic. Behind blue eyes is the only song that I found really good. Although there were sections that I enjoyed throughout the rest of the album, I couldn't see myself coming back to any of the other songs anytime soon. The main reason being that I didn't love the lyrics or vocals in many sections. Therefore this is not my favourite album, but I can see why it is enjoyable for others.

Was this supposed to be great?

Usch vilken hemsk gubbrock. Alltid hatat Behind blue eyes. Nästan en etta.

While I can respect their talent and prowess at the top of the classic rock genre, I've just never really liked the Who. I just don't like Roger Daltrey's voice. That being said I found 2 or 3 songs on this (outside of the big hits) that I didn't mind.

The who har kun været én sang for mig - My generation.

Jeg er aldrig kommet længere end My Generation med The Who.

Know a couple of the popular songs (Baba O'Riley and Won't get fooled again" but never have warmed to The Who, for whatever reason I just find them boring. Going Mobile is absolutely terrible. Most the of rest album is instantly forgettable. I am been super generous with a 2 as I guess there will be worse records, hopefully not much worse though.

I have heard a few Who albums and was actually blown away by how much I liked them. This album doesn’t cut it for me. I found myself wondering when the current song would be over. There isn’t anything groundbreaking on this album. Nothing intriguing either. I will say, I just recently noticed that they peed on that monolith and it wasn’t just shadows. Hilarious. Choice cut: Behind Blue Eyes

Why isnt it called teenage wasteland? 4/10

I liked this more than our other who albums but that’s bolstered mostly just by baba o Riley and behind blue eyes. The other stuff is just ok. Their other songs have a really early queen sound and sometimes kinda mixed with CCR. It’s interesting.

Exhausted and bored after the first few tracks

Never was a big fan of the who. Despite their many accolades. On hearing this again, I am still unmoved by the music. Keithg Moons drumming alwasy sound off time to me, although his antics delighted. Not on my 1001 list

Appreciated the the album for what it was at its time. There were a few cool sections musicality wise. Had a lot of triumphant epic moments which I tend to find a bit cheesy but can appreciate their appeal. Favourite song Baba O’Riley.

Haven't seen this album cover in a long time and for the first time I'm wondering are they pissing on Stanley Kubrick? I can't really listen to this, for much the same reason I can't drink rum anymore. In fact I think it's very possible I picked up both allergies around the same time, now that I think about it. Can I recuse myself? Is there a mercy rule I can invoke? Like an infield fly rule, but for tunes? Giving it a two, as the average of 5 and 0, rounded down.

it's fine, i guess. the hits are the hits, the rest of it is so dreadfully boring compared to every musical genre that came after it

Not for me!

Unfortunately tracks 1,9 and 10 cannot carry the dross of the what comes inbetween . Stick to their greatest hits!

Baba O’Riley is a good song, but otherwise this is just tired classic rock to my ears. Probably cool in the 70’s though

2.5 hours of The Who, with repeated tracks (original, remix, live...). You really need to be a fan to get through it. I'm not, so didn't make it through the entire double album.

The opening and closing tracks are very good. I'm not really sure what happened in the middle. Am I supposed to be in awe of thisan album? It was fine.

As classic rock goes, this is a pretty good album. However, I'm pretty tired of all the music on it, and I can't say I can think of any later generation of musician who cites Pete Townshend, The Who, or this album in particular as an inspiration. It's...okay. Instead of dying before they got old, maybe The Who just slid into insignificance.

Mehhhhhhhhh

it's boring to me

Meh YNN

Mi sie srednio podoba raczej bym tu nie wrócił / Wojtek Typowy rock raczej też bym nie wróciła / Daria

Didn't like the Who back in the day. I don't know why, but I recall it was kind of boy music to me. Listening to it now, I think it was the drums that I didn't like, although there's nothing wrong with them except they're too high in the mix for my taste. Familiar songs that I never need to hear again. They're OK, just don't do anything for me.

Cheesy Dad rock

I've never really got on with The Who, as hard as I've tried...and boy, I've tried. Fantastic, no, superb opening and closing tracks, but in between I found myself making a cuppa, completing a form for life cover and ordering "Clasica" Foldable Tin Plate Bread Toaster for an upcoming camping trip. Browsing other reviews, I'm obviously a neanderthal, but isn't that the point. Music and life are about opinions and it'd be very boring if we all liked the same things. Great album cover though. Who's next?

The problem with starting an album with "Baba O'Reilly" is that every other song on the album is going to pale in comparison. Much like my experience with early Aerosmith a couple weeks back, I'm surprised by just how little rocking is going on here. At the same time this was happening, Black Sabbath were putting out "Master of Reality" and the Stooges had released "Funhouse" a year prior, so like... by comparison this just seems like nerd shit

Every song more or less was the same. I can see how at the time it worked but it's not for me.

Too tame for me.

Baba is still audible, the rest has fallen out of time Good bye, whoever!

I do not like The Who.

Weekend listens are hard for me, since my kids are running around and loud. I threw this on in the background and I knew I would love the drums. I did, but I also loved the bass. Ultimately, this album isn’t my cup of tea. Also, I’m not sure how much more classic rock in can take from the app. I’m only eight albums in and have had The Rolling Stones, the who, lynyrd skynyrd, and Santana. Please tell me this ride isn’t going to be like this.

A few really good songs that were great fun, however this is so damn long guys what the heck. Also a few to many sexist lyrics for me.

boomer rock

the who more like who listens to this?

Really only into Baba O'Reily... Couldn't get into much else on the album.

Simultaneously boring and overwrought.

Fairly meh, if you ask me. I was expecting a whole lot more. I didn't feel like I wanted to listen to it again ... ever. Which is a pretty bad sign. It wasn't awful, like some of the other albums I've listened to - so 2 stars feels about right.

It took 4 years and an entire website to get me to listen to the Baba O'Riley album, but I'm somewhat appreciative for finally getting around to it. The main draw is lightning in a bottle, but what lightning they were able to catch!

2/5 boring and generic

-this would be my shit if i was 60 years old -it's a good quality album, it's just not my jam

csi good. rest ok

Not really by vibe but I can understand that theres some clever music going on

It's ok but I probably would not listen again

Meh dad rock

Niet mijn muziek, erg saai en zeurderig. Heb niet het hele album geluisterd.

Meeh...not that good. Like the opening track.

Couple of bangers to top and tail, with some total dross filler

i mean its good i guess but not my cup of tea ?

very mid, only two or three standout songs.

I already new Baba O'Riley and, after listening to the whole album, it's still probably the only song I'm coming back to. Bargain is good too, but not as great, and some songs have really nice moments, but even after a good amount of listens, I can't even say wich song is wich. From a technical point, it's clear all the band members are very talented and it's clear where the success came from, but personally the songs weren't memorable, the lyrics and the pace didn't do it for me, and overall just did not enjoy the album.

Boring Babo o recycled at the end Nothing surprising

album starts with Baba O'Reilly so ya know it's starting at a high high point. we'll see where the rest of the Who takes us most of the album was super mid. average lame dad rock stuff and then the baba oriley noises again in the last song for a gyatdang 8 minute build up to the csi miami sound. overall like a 3 outta 10 on a scale with 1001 other albums, maybe even a 2. this album sucks they made a freaking impossibly good song (baba o'riley) and the rest of the album sounds like they were trying to replicate that. then by the last song they said whateva do the baba o'riley noises YOWWWWWWW 😎😎😎

Baba and Blue Eyes and Won’t Get Fooled all great. Just because I’ve heard them more? Are they radio played because they’re better, or do we think they’re better bc they’re radio played and familiar? The Who are an undeniably great band. Daltry Moon Entwistle Townshend. They rock. But seventies cock rock kind of sucks. Lyrics are bland and dumb. The Who seem committed to this juvenile shit like oh we all peed on the wall, we’re bathing in baked beans. Guess it made the greatest generation angry which must have felt good but it ages poorly.

Did not know Limp Bizkit was behind the CSI theme as well!

I don’t think I’m arsed about The Who. I’m not sure how much of that is driven by one of them being a nonce (where’s the book?!) and one being a Brexiter. Either way they’re obviously very good but do little for me. Never realised Baba O’Riley was The Who. I like the intro but the rest of the song is shit. It borders on the novelty. I’m guessing The Who fans hate it too? Just doesnt sound like them. There’s a few good songs on this, but then there’s a tonne of filler / shite. Ditch half the album and itll be much better. Some sound theatrical, particularly The Song is Over / Love aint for keeping. Is this intentional? Who knows. I dont, and I dont care to find out. Not for me. Wont be back. P.S. Hate the kerning used for the album title on the album cover.

Well it wasn't as long or offensive as Tommy I guess, so they made some progress. First track is okay, the best example of the repetitive approach throughout the whole album. I checked the amount of time left on a song half a dozen times because they were over 4 minutes long and nothing had happened. There was one called the song won't end or something so I'm pretty sure they knew what they were doing. Painful but fairly short, 1.5.

Pretty average maybe expected more, maybe its on me I dont know? All I know is I always get excited by the who but they seldom deliver. Kinda reminds me of when I deliviered fridges for a white goods retailer back in the 90s. All the way down in Marsille with the crazy med temperatures and the warped knife crimes rampant of the time. Always exptant that the next drop would be easy that time would be made and early afternoon beers would be enjoyed. The reality was cobbled streets and standoffs between rival gangs and the gendarme! Still enougth time to maybe consider the train thats cancelled without bitterness, or maybe time for a beer?

The who ist einfach nicht mein Ding

boomer rock yayyyy. it’s okay. british people just think they’re so bloody brilliant lol. there’s some cute ideas in here but it’s definitely overrated. maybe outstanding for its time but in the grand scheme of music it’s not that great. the production is great; i love the way the guitars are blended and how they compliment the keyboard. the lyrics and vocals are okay but not spine tingling. lmao you british people think so highly of yourselves lol!!!!!!!!!! you really think you’re the fucking greatest BUT YOU’RE NOT CALM TF DOWN

I liked the energy of early Who, but this is straying into Pomp Rock.

fav songs: baba o’riley, my wife, behind blue eyes not what i expected. is it blasphemous to say i thought it was alright but i wouldn’t listen to it again?

At this point, I'm convinced that "Behind Blue Eyes" is the only Who song that I enjoy. Maybe "Baba O'Riley" too. The rest, while I appreciate for being such an energetic and unique brand of rock, is pretty annoying and generic to me.

Pretty heavy handed. Unpleasant voice. Never liked them as much as their contemporaries.

Not for me

I listened. Who's next? ❓❓

Even their best album is still mostly trash.

Wasn't crazy about it, favorite track: baba O'Reilly cuz of the terry Reilly inspired moog arpeggios at the beginning

Never really got the appeal of The Who. Can't deny their influence, and I was hoping this listen might "educate" me, help me finally get them. But it didn't.

I... really could not care less about this album, or the Who. Production is pristine, they're clearly skilled at what they do, I just hate it, is all. 4/10 Not My Jam

Starts and ends with a bang. The rest is 🤷🏻‍♂️

I thought this was the best who album I've heard yet, though I certainly consider that a very low bar to meet. It's like calling something the best root canal. in all seriousness, some of the songs were toe tappers.

I can’t get through it

Ok. So this is the one with the synth arpeggiator intro. Cool. Now, let me muster some "I care about and I'm open minded about The Who" energy... Here's the deal. You can use a bunch of unconventional instruments on a rock record. But there has to be: A) prodigious playing, and/or B) great songwriting, along with it. Instead, what we have here is the same three chord jabs and sub-par singing. Two stars 100% earned by Keith Moon's drumming.

baba o'riley 5/5. the rest... boring/5

Two good songs the rest is overhyped

I can’t stand the opening but it got better with time. But not much

Some good songs (Baba O'Rily is a heater), but honestly everything felt very samey. Liked this better than Tommy but not enough to give it another listen.

Ugh. Hard Pass.

I really cannot get into The Who.

Ja minns int de en dag senare :)

Thank god that they weren't allowed to release this as another unsufferable rock opera like the attrocious Tommy. The opening motif was the highlight. Needed more synth, less of the singing. Middling throughout.

Not really feeling this, but I’m not sure why. Nothing stands out to me and it all kind’ve just sounds like something I could hear playing in the background while listening to older rock music. Idk, it was overall kind’ve boring to me. Won’t Get Fooled Again wasn’t bad. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard it before.

Gut abgemischt, aber trotzdem nicht mein Ding.

Production: 7/20 Songwriting: 5/20 Innovation: 9/20 Bangers: 10/20 Emotional response: 5/20 =36 Most of this is fucking horrible

it was better than I though it was gonna be but still get through the whole album

I don't like The Who

No interest. Too Rush-y

Ikke min smak

idk this is like to sincere for me or something. i know this is objectively good but im i guess cynical or something. it just doesnt take me anywhere, which is probably a flaw of my own psyche that this cant dind purchase to probe. never liked this in my classic rock era but knew boys that did. now i can only think of joe pera trying to get his church to join in acapella. actually fuck this why do i have to justify not liking this to myself

one of the albums by the band and it sounds

My heart sank when I saw an album by the Who. It sank further when I saw it was 2 and a half hours long ....

No lo escuché, 2 albums de total 2:30hs!

i think I've definitely heard baba o reilly before, interesting tone

I didn’t listen

I’ve heard of The Who, as in their name and particularly when they were being mentioned in regard for the British Invasion back in the 60s, with the Beatles leading the charge. Other than that, I’m not familiar with them and 2.5 hours of them as introduction just didn’t do it for me.

wierd, helt okej men inget speciellt

israeli ass album 🫩🥀

The hard rock just isn’t for me

Really not my speed. Added a new York recording off behind blue eyes but that is it.

This can be like background music in a old tavern or something dnd 🤓

bruh not for mee at all

I didn’t like any songs off that jawn

Boring stadium dad rock with one of the ugliest album covers ever

Oookay

just not very interesting to me. I know old white men think this is the opus of all music but it's really just okay. Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd sound infinitely more interesting to me as far as classic rock greats go. I understand the appeal, and the classic nature of this, but I personally would not listen to this by personal choice. Also the carpenters at work play this shit all day anyways so I'm very familiar with this vibe.

Singles are overplayed and annoying. The rest are fillers and annoying.

• bisschen boring bisher • mich hat kein lied beim ersten hören so wirklich gecatched

One good song. Shmeh.

I get it, they are influential. I think the who blows.

Ettan är odiskutabel Lyssna hellre på The Rolling Stones -It's only rock'n'roll, Primal Scream - Give out but don't give up,

All who albums are getting a 1 star for noncing.

Too slow.

Was OK

I embarked upon this exercise to challenge my biases and give everything a listen. But The Who give me the ick and I couldn't get past track 3. Don't know why I bothered...I won't get fooled again.

holy shit, the guys from the csi:miami ahh theme song

I've officially decided that I am not a fan of the Who in any way, shape, or form. All the vocals annoys me, the instrumentals are about as generic old white guy as you can get, and frankly it just isn't impressive or enjoyable to me. I can recognize the quality of Keith Moon's drumming, but a single drummer does not make a band good, and frankly with one of the most obnoxious finales in rock history, I'm going to throw this into the "influential for the worse" pile alongside Yeezus. Congrats, Who, you made power pop. Now every single other rock band will outclass you on it. That's truly revolutionary.

29.04.24 Faves: - Behind blue eyes Opinion: Not my type of genre tbh. I barely enjoyed it.

Not a good album

I hate it and almost everything the Who did. Roger Daltrey always came across as a complete knob.

cannot bring myself to care

I'm beginning to lose faith in this experiment.

Bad bad start to this. Just can't stand The Who.

no soporto a los who

The slower numbers such as Love aint for keeping & the very proggy The song is over remain highlights. The classic Won't get fooled again certainly provides a shift of pace. Otherwise the album is a mish mash without any real cohesion. The combination of Moon & Entwhistle remain of top form throughout but not enough to lift this album past mediocre.

Excellent. A true classic

Not sure exactly what it is that makes me hate Pete Townsend so much. Maybe it's because his stage antics are so deliberate and scripted and ripped off from the Stones or the Kinks, maybe it's because he's an insufferable schmuck who' stated he's happy his deceased bandmates are dead or, maybe its because he has a thing for kids. Oh, and Roger Daltrey's voice is awful. Regardless, there really isn't redeeming in the music on this album, or anywhere for that matter, that stands out, is unique except for maybe Keith Moon's facial expressions while drumming ... hrmmm, or maybe the use of synth repeaters. Buuuut, for the most part this band is Townsend and Daltrey, both of whom I have zero love for.

not for me.

Generic and dull

The highs are roaringly high and get you slapping your leg to the beat. The lows (or mediums?) are ok. Not bad songs but some just clearly lack the energy and you just wait for it to pick back up again.
