Deja vu is right. Why are we hear again!?
I wish you could add half stars to this website because this is honestly a 3.5. It’s so close to being ranked higher; there’s songs I loved; unfortunately they were swamped by songs I found forgettable
Great songwriting
I’m sure that I would like this as background music in Waitrose…. Our House is just a bit too soppy….
It was alright
V/rv
This album stands out for the use of the voices. Everyone here (the 4 main members) have their moment to shine individually, but also collectively when they sing in harmony, as the best and most beautiful melodies are the ones sang in choirs, like in 'Our House'. I wish I could say the rest is as good as the vocals. The instrumentation, while sounding quite pleasent, I think is overshadowed by the singing. I do have to give credit where credit is due: the music in this album has a great range, alternating between rock and folk/country. This variety is something that I always appreciate and view as a very postive aspect. With that being said, I wasn't the biggest fan of the record. Folk rock from this time is a sound that never appealed to me, and that's why I'm giving it 3 stars.
Croontastic
Some good oldies
Nett Mal wieder zu hören.
Pleasant! I wouldn't complain or skip if it came on. I'd heard the song Our House before.

Good album
H: the harmonies were beautiful, warm and inviting. This album isn’t anything special but you can see how it shaped several different genres. It was ok but I wouldn’t listen again. 6/10 H fav song: Woodstock Z: Simon & Garfunkel on a tab of acid and a sprinkle of sage. I can draw a direct line between the two— harmony driven vocals, 60s/early 70s inspired soundscape (in this case with a bit of steel guitar twang and psychedelia). Unfortunately that harmony is the double edged sword that makes this enjoyable, but a bit repetitive. 6.5/10 Z fav song: Our House
mixed bag for me. the neil young songs are grating.
CSNY are a big influence in bending folk with popular genres. It's a solid record.
Not my cup of tea.
Such a great record. Took me some time in my life to really appreciate folk, but this is one of those records that further supports its presence. Good vibes and great rhythms, just loving what they're doing. The singing is welcoming and joyous, making it really easy to get along with. Excellent album.
7/10
One of the better CSNY albums
Helpless and Our House are great songs. No other big highlights for me. Neil Young is something else.
Conocía el disco, pero hace mucho que no lo escucho. A ver... Tiene buenos momentos, pero el disco no tiene coherencia global. Empeora bastante cuando canta el insoportable Neil Young solo, que tiene una voz horrible.
There is some good tracks on this, I find that Nash’s voice can grate on me sometimes. Fav Track - almost cut my hair
Not absolutely excellent—some of it is good, some of it is mediocre by my standards.
More of the same
Great, mellow album. Oh, Our House is their song? I enjoy this kind of music with all the harmonizing vocal layers. Country Girl was a favorite. It doesn't blow me away, but it's a nice album. 3.5
a supergroup album that is less than the sum of its parts.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young has always been a mythical name for me. Now that I'm listening to this album, I wonder why. Were my expectations too high?
prefer the songs that could be considered country than the ones that are more typically considered the folk rock sound. probably a preeminent album of this folk rock style. prefer the outlaw country to this choir boy stuff though
Really liked the guitar and lyrics throughout this album. It was a little slow for my taste. I dunno, this just doesn't do a whole lot for me outside of a handful of songs, but I appreciate the musicianship. I don't even have a whole lot to say on this one, it was pretty good but nothing that's going to stay in my head for a while. It probably gets better with multiple listens though. Standouts were "Carry On" "Deja Vu" and "Country Girl" 3/5
Perfectly pleasant but not much that stood out or songs I would want to listen again.
An album I probably should have known better than I did. And with a few tracks such as Our House where it was like 'Oh that is where this is from'. Favourite track - Carry One
It's alright, I guess. The Young isn't quite enough to make up for the Crosby, Stills, & Nash, imo.
A fun, enjoyable listen. Really well crafted songs - might have had a slight preference to the Young side of the equation though. Very easy to have on in the background.
This one really wasn't doing it for me. Yet another band that my dad raves about and i'm totally neutral with. I like their vocal harmonies and they occasionally have interesting songwriting, but as an album it's very easy to tune out.
Some good old classics
Almost Cut My Hair is brilliant. Album is decent on the whole; this was a first listen but not sure when I’d come back to this
bland but fine
Although I do not actively listen this record on any hint of a regular basis - one cannot deny the magik it truly is. The sum is greater than the parts. It is the rare thing that is undeniable - one of the greatest records of all time.
Day 22 First listen- The album was a decent journey . I enjoyed their cover of woodstock and few other songs! (3.5/5)
The songs were very calming to listen to
The self-indulgent tones of the boomer generation. Don't get me wrong, musically it is pleasing enough to the ears. The melodies are light and the harmonies are good. Obviously the trio can sing, and Neil Young is trying his best. But let's be honest, this music came from a place of self-importance and selfish ness. The boomers grew up, and suddenly war and censorship was okay....just remember there were roughly 76 million boomers, but only 400,000 of them were actually at Woodstock, despite what they all say...
I enjoyed this. Teach your children is great. Very easy listening.
Very good
Sin más.
I thought I would hate this, but it was okay!
Generally I liked it. Their harmonies are great and the sound is quite timeless (though a little too close to country for me). I was surprised to find I already knew several of the songs. 𝘞𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘬 sounded depressingly optimistic considering the current times. :P
Soft and amazing record. Lyrics and sounds are all great. I'll keep it jn rotation.
I found this album to be mostly fine, but not particularly good. Some tracks were strong, and none were all that bad. The majority were just OK, though. It also didn't really feel like a cohesive album so much as just a compilation of songs. Almost all of the songs were written by a member individually rather than together as a group, so there was a variety of style throughout its runtime. I preferred Crosby's style to those of the others, and once again just could not enjoy Young's voice. Woodstock, not written by either member but by Joni Mitchell, was one of the better tracks on the album. I also liked the last track, Everybody I Love You, which had writing contribution from CS&N. I don't want to drag this too much because I really didn't find it bad. I just wasn't all that impressed by it, and it wasn't all that interesting to me for whatever reason. It was solid, but not really better than that. Overall: 2.8/5
I generally enjoyed this. Neil Young is the most familiar member of the quartet to me, but the CSNY sound is bigger here than Young's solo work, sitting somewhere between the two 70s sounds I grew up on: singer-songwriter and full-on rock. This album will grow on me. For now, it's a 3. I plan to come back and work my way deeper into it.
I thought this was fine. Some standouts and the overall sound I liked. But there was too much of it? Maybe I’m just behind and wanted to catch up on albums but I was waiting for this to be over a bit
Surprised I didn't like this more. Only really recognized Our House. 4+20 was a standout for me. Country Girl had a high pitch noise in much of it that's horrible.
nebaigiau klausyt, bet vien tik uz old man uzdkaitau
It’s a classic. Cloying, but a classic.
Lays a foundation for southern rock and alt country. But a lot of it is schlocky and lame. A couple of bangers though
6/10 There are bits of this album that I really like. Our House is a massive highlight for me. I’m a big fan of an understated little piece of ‘everyday life’ music. Stylistically, it’s a million miles away, but it makes me think a little of Starfish And Coffee by Prince. Anyway. When they got a bit more bluesy-rock, I enjoyed that too, but I’m not a massive fan of the overuse of the type of block ‘wall of sound’ vocal harmonies that they use. They work in when used sparingly, but to my mind, the mixing of them dominates without providing a satisfying amount of space for the lead vocal to shine. With that in mind, the tracks I’d likely return to would probably be those with a more clear lead vocal, and with a bit of rock ’n roll grit to the track, like Almost Cut My Hair. In all honesty, while I did enjoy this, I feel like there’s music out there that I’d go to first that focus more on the elements I did enjoy. Glad to have heard it though. Probably a 5, but Our House just tickles my sentimental fancy, so it pops up by one. Carry On - This is a good start to the album. The opening guitar line bursts with enthusiasm and the harmonies throw a great vibe over it. Could do with a bit more movement in the harmonies, but they’re still good. It then moves into decent groove half way through. Nice little guitar licks that pop up here and there through the track, and that wah tone is great. Teach Your Children - This one’s a bit more saccharine. It’s nice enough, but it doesn’t really have the grit or drive that I liked from the first track. Definitely more meandering too, though it does have a nice toe-tapping rhythm from the guitar. Almost Cut My Hair - The vibe to this one is more back to what we had from Carry On. Kind of sits somewhere between Hendrix and The Eagles in terms of feel to me. I think the more driven guitar really works here and there’s plenty of space for them to have a bit more fun with their playing. Nice to hear a bit of variety from the vocal too and less emphasis on the harmonisations. That might have got tiring if it stayed for every track. Helpless - It feels like a theme is developing here. Back to a more of a softer ballad-esque track now. Again, it’s nice. The vocal has a vulnerable edge to it that I like, but I just wasn’t really that grabbed by this one. Woodstock - The theme continues. Back to something with a bit more of a rock ’n roll edge and a bit of drive. The interplay between the organ and the guitar is really nice. The backing vocals are more subtle through the verses, which gives the lead space to breathe, although they definitely kick in on the chorus. There’s a nice ‘I’m having fun over here’ guitar solo too. Deja Vu - I thought they were going to change the formula. Nice driven start for a minute and then bam. Slow song again. I do like the groove of this one and the dynamics build nicely too. Some interesting little nuggets from the different instruments too as the track progresses. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but there are elements of this that I do really like. Our House - I love this tune. Written by Graham Nash on Joni Mitchell’s piano about the everyday happiness of their relationship. I like the innocence of it and the celebration of the satisfying mundanity of an established relationship. The vocal harmonies actually have more movement and less of a ‘wall of sound’ approach than on most of the rest of the album, which is way better. Sometimes simplicity is beauty. 4 + 20 - Nice enough piece of melancholy. Doesn’t really go anywhere, but it’s short enough. That ending is pretty good though. Country Girl - I think the album is getting a bit tired by this point. This has some nice enough moments, but it doesn’t really shine and we’re definitely on the wind down at this point. It feels like they’re trying to go with something epic, but it just seems busy and loud rather than big and grand to me. Everybody I love You - Lets finish off with some fun. Back to the more wall-of-sound harmonies. This lets loose a bit more and they get to have a bit of guitar fun, but it’s not the most interesting.
not bad - classic stuff
Easy listening, approachable classic rock.
There are some standout songs here, but there are also some really lame ones. With 4 different members and each song sounding like a different genre, it's not really a very coherent or consistent album. Mid 3.
Carry on is so cool. The harmony is great and satisfying. The repetitive swingy rhythm on the guitar drives everything forward. Oh the groovey solo section in the middl. Teach your children is way too country for me, and pretty boring overall. Almost cut my hair is straight up a meme and a really good song. The delayed guitar and snare hits are really fun with the blues feel. Chorus is great too. Helpless is rather boring too unfortunately. Well performed but just not for me. I like Woodstock as well. It seems I really like the harmony heavy quicker songs. Guitar solo at the end smacked. Deja vu sounds like the Shankar album I listened to yesterday! This unison singing is really nice. Our song is very beatlesey. I love how different each song on this album has sounded. Lyrically these songs are rough. 4 + 20 gives me really strong red dead vibes. I really like this one. Country girl is a really cool song too. I love the vibes. Everybody I love you is all right. Not super catchy or interesting like the others but not boring either. Overall the album was fun, I’m glad I listened to it. It has a couple good songs I might come back to later but overall not my thing. Good music, I just don’t really vibe with it.
I have heard this album a few times over the years, and I never feel like i am fully satisfied with it. It is a pleasant listen, laid back, chilled out folk rock music. I think Young adds something a bit more exciting, because CSN are duller without him. It’s technically a very accomplished album and the tracks are decent. They harmonise well together, and it’s a distinctive sound. It just doesn’t quite hit the mark for me.
An optional country
Some nice classic rock. A few big hit songs and a few that are good despite not being big hits. I have never heard this album as a whole and I enjoyed it more than I thought.
It's pretty solid, but nothing that stuck out in my mind too much after the fact. Id need another listen to fully form an opinion on it. 3.5/5
Somehow had heard some of those songs but it was enjoyable yet repetitive
386/1001
Some gnarly transition like halfway through the first song, and some cool bits otherwise but one day on and I remember basically nothing about this
Dope album, I don’t think I would listen to it again but there are some good songs.
A definite improvement on CSN’s debut. This has a bit more about it, with strong contributions from Nash, in particular, and Young. Doesn’t contain enough great songs to be considered a classic though.
Good folk is only 2.5 - 3. This was fine.
It’s a fine little late 60’s early 70’s folksy, rock, hippy album. Not my favorite. Nothing I hated either. 2.5⭐️ rounding up.
Neil Young's guitar work is pretty incredible on this album, complimented by a driving rhythm section that carries through the whole album. I can't shake the feeling that the writing and production is very dated to the 70s though, in a way that some other classic albums of the period aren't.
This album was really difficult for me, on one hand I found the folk and country aspects quite boring slow and repetitive but on the other hand I really liked when the songs seemed to pick up and lean into the rock elements.
With the exception of "Ohio" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" most of CSNY is pretty meh for me, although it has a few standout moments, mostly from Young.
Rockier songs good. Others less so.
I think C,SN&Y is good music. Good melodies, beautiful male vocals...also in combination. A cross-section of American music styles...all good. But it doesn't really knock my socks off. But I understand that this album is one of the chosen healthy ones and I think it's justified
2.7/chill i guess but not overly interesting
I really liked some of the voices / songs - some voices I found a bit grating. Would probably listen again, 3/5
I knew two songs here before I even knew who they were. 'Teach Your Children' and 'Our House' which still sounds lovely, a genuine moment in a song. I got into Neil Young and Bufallo Springfield before I got into CSNY. I like some of it but not all. Helpless, 40 + 20 and Country Girl, along with Our House stand out. Stephen Stills was great, not sure he really made the most of his talent.
It's a fine album, but I wasn't blown away by anything in particular.
Love a few songs on this album
Ihan kiva. Kuuluu ehkä vähän liikaa kaikkien tyyppien monet tyylit: vaikka oli saatu kunnioitettava kokonaisuus, jäi se jotkin hajanaiseksi kokoelmaksi. Kivaa taustamusiikkia, sellaista älykkäämpää.
I have heard this many times as I own a copy. I like it, but I don't get excited to listen to it, and while I have heard it often, it's been a while since I put it on. And I noticed, I don't have anything from this album on my Spotify playlist. I like it. I don't love it. It's as 3.5 as it gets. I'll ruminate on whether that results in a 3 or a 4 in the morning. It just doesn't quite meet my criteria for a 4. 3 it is.
I think adding Young to the mix was a good idea. Still seems kind of bland.
Felt meh about this
ok
I knew a couple of these tracks but most were new. I was hoping to avoid too much Neil Young here but every song he sung I wanted to shove a rusty ice pick in my ear canals. He costs the album a star here, like so many other NY albums I’ve found on this project
for some reason not what I expected? it's pleasant, not lifechanging though
very nice, great in the background, but not in love
Eh. Probably the most "classic rock"-ass album I've heard in a while. Not bad, but not really my thing. Prefer Neil Young on his own.
It's fine. I don't hate it. Harmless classic rock.
It was pretty good but only had a few high points - not enough to save it.
I don't know! Another perfectly fine but miscellaneous 70s album!
Listened to before: Yes This Album always sounded more like a compilation than an actual album to me. I like a lot of it's ingredients, but as a whole it never worked for me as well as one would expect. I can't even say why. Perhaps the 70s harmonising vocal style is not for me. Helpless is one of my favourite Neil Young Songs, apart from that I enjoy side B more than side A. Rating: 3.5 Stars
I initially clicked on the 50th anniversary deluxe edition and wanted to cry at the thought of listening to 3+ hours of CSNY. Thankfully, the non-deluxe version was still an option. 36 minutes is much better. This is that weird time period when everyone was doing their version of country/folk, which is not my musical preference. I'm surprised I liked some of these songs, especially Carry On, Helpless (though Neil Young's vocals almost ruin it), Our House, and 4+20.
It was nice but not really my vibe.
Adding Neil Young really made this a rock album, didn't it?
More harmonic goodness, transformed (for better or for worse) by the addition of Neil Young. The songwriting shines here too (even Joni Mitchell tapped in to write a song). No big "hits" per se, but a somewhat comfortable listen.
Nothing stand out aside from the classics Teach Your Children and Our House, except I'm OBSESSED that he says "I feel like letting my freak flag fly" in Almost Cut My Hair; I did NOT know that phrase was that old. Actually just got to the title track and it's VERY cool. Slight Jethro Tull sound. 4 + 20 is pretty cool too - dark country sound.
Long à démarer
Every other song was good, just pretty average folk rock for me
Mein drittes Album von der Liste, das Neil Young enthält, von den anderen hatte ich auch schon Soloalben. Nicht ganz so meins, aber man kann es sich anhören. Außerdem schön kurz.
Some classics, but no favorites.
Amerikako musikaren diskariko on bat.
Interesting album. 70s vibes with a wide range. Some country rock and some songs that could have been lifted from Sgt Pepper’s movie.
not bad. better than expected, and some of the less-overplayed songs i hadn't heard before and were pleasantly surprised by (almost cut my hair)
The simulacrum of 1970s folk rock. Impeccably tight harmonies that lend embarrassment to the Auto-tune movement, interesting variety of songs and songwriting throughout, overall fairly memorable and worthy of citation on the list of 1001. 7/10 -> 3/5. Important album, but a "safe" one at that. Not the most daring or contiguous album I've heard.
'Carry On' is a really good opener. A proper jaunty bluesy foot tapper of a track. Halfway through it changes up and turns into a more funky track with a really good solo running through it. 'Helpless' is a lovely tune sung by Neil Young (yes, I still like his voice!), 'Deja Vu' is also sung really well by David Crosby who probably has the best voice and suits 1970's rock music best. It's a good rock song. '4 + 20' is a really nice acoustic song and 'Everybody I Love You' is a great closing track, it's a classic 70's upbeat rock tune. I really enjoy the harmonising on this album a lot, it really sounds great and is always a treat when it appears. Some good songs, some okay songs, some dull songs. Overall a mixed bag but some good highs.
This is a very good album. Probably better than I was expecting.
It’s fine. Teach the Children just doesn’t work for me. Feels preachy and self important.
hello from north ontario :)
This was nice. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Neil Young led songs, and some of it was corny, but it was enjoyable to listen to.
Fav tracks: Woodstock , our house , 4 + 20 None of the songs are particularly interesting, they seem to build up to nothing
I liked it
Allright, need to be in the right vibe
I think “our house” is one of the best songs in the pop canon, I think “helpless” is also pretty great, and then there’s also the rest of the album!
This would have been one of the albums that my father would talk about when we would be listening to a classic rock station. Some solid songs and great musicianship. A good listen.
Rich harmonies & sharp songwriting showcase each member’s distinct voice and songwriting style.
Forgettable harmony-driven tracks make this Folk Rock album a bit tireing.
Just fine. I feel like from everything I’ve heard about CSN, this album should’ve been more remarkable?
Side 1 had some pretty groovy songs, but not much that stood out. "Woodstock" was probably my favorite from side 1. The intro to "Deja Vu" was awesome and had me moving, but the rest of it fell off. I really enjoyed "4 + 20". The delicate vocals and acoustic accompaniment were a nice change from the very harmony-heavy tracks earlier on the album. I'm just a bit disappointed it's the shortest song.
A standard of American folk rock. Like it or hate it, it's seminal and inescapable.
An actual choir? … The first song was charming and a bit touching with the male voices singing together but by the second song that feeling wore off already. Fortunately not all songs have a choir element for their entirety. That’s not my cup of tea. I preferred the songs where the chorus was not such a prominent element like eg in Almost Cut My Hair or 4+20. I would not listen to this again but I enjoyed the vibe and a few songs.
Good album
I respect the musicianship, but I do NOT like their voices, especially when they blast all at the same time. 2.5
It's my 100th album! It would have been cool if I'd got something I either loved or hated to mark this milestone, rather than something I thought was pleasant, but that's not Crosby, Stills, Nash or Young's fault. (Well, maybe Nash's - Our House and Teach Your Children are so pleasant they are verging on twee.)
Well, alright. Liked it for the sonic textures more so than the songwriting.
3/5
Not bad but didn’t love it 6/10
uneventful except 4+20 and oh no the neil young wail
Enjoyed some of the CSN songs. The Y songs not so much. Harmonies were good. For an album full of "hits" I only knew 'Our House' from some lame uncool adverts.
2.5
A few really good songs, especially early. Not generally my speed though.
Some good country-rock songs on it. Not much else to say.
3/5
Sitä tuttua harmoniaa jota joku pliisuksi sanoisi. Välissä vähän rokkaavampaa, mutta oikeastana vain ”Helpless” jäi mieleen.
I really don't like Neil Young, but this was surprisingly good. Probably because there were few songs where Young sang.
its better than i thought it would be
It's okay, but not my bag.
Better than the last C, S & N album. Some decent songs here. Still a bit hippyish for me.
According to Graham Nash’s retelling, Crosby, Stills & Nash originally formed to be something of a vocal supergroup, to pursue the unique sound of their harmonies that no one else had at the time. That’s why im not entirely sure why they decided to bring on Neil Young (ugh!!!), who is not a “good” vocalist and, based on the dissolution of Buffalo Springfield and the composition of this album, probably not a great collaborator either. This album strikes me as several Crosby, Stills & Nash songs with a couple Neil Young songs added onto the track list. Only one song, “Everybody I Love You”, feels like an actual blending of CSN and Y, and in fact it’s the only song on the album with a songwriting credit from both Y and one of C/S/N (Stills). My personal grudge against Neil Young aside (NY count on the list is now up to 5!), this album suffers a bit from feeling more generally like a disjointed collection of songs from different artists rather than a collaborative effort. NY’s songs sound exactly like NY songs, yes, but at the same time, the two Nash songs have a starkly simple, sweet sound that feels cloying in comparison. Crosby’s records have an imposing and overbearing dark ambience. They’re all nice tracks on their own (from CS&N at least), but together they feel a little incoherent. This is a good album. Most of the songs on it are pretty good. I think it could be a great album if the members of the band had worked together more to edit and revise these songs. I’d give it 3.5 ⭐️ if I could.
Music good. Nothing to complain about. Could chill to it.
A very OK dad-rock album. Not many high highs or low lows. Comfortably listenable. Neil Young was under utilized in the lineup. 3/5
Not on this album but got introduces to “Slowpoke” by the same band, which is awesome. Enjoyed the overall chilled out, acoustic vibe.
The album was decent. Felt like I’ve heard a lot of tracks in movies or they would make great soundtrack additions At least. The guitarist is what did it for me. Four songs stuck with me.
2/1001 Not my cup of tea, but can appreciate the talent.
helpless is great
Nice harmonies, wholesome tunes. Fave: Our House because cats.
If I had to compare this album to a weinering, it would be a respectable weinering. Quite nice but nothing stood out to me
ágæt rokkplata, kveikir samt lítið í mér. samsöngur, kaliforníuköntrí. 3.
A slab of the ‘60s from the early ‘70s … liked it more than I expected to. It deserves more listening.
it’s hard reacting this one. i can’t really look at it objectively.
Mediocre
Maybe it's just not the day for this, but it feels like lame lyrics set to predictable music.
It's fine. Better than anticipated.
Our House is good
Okay for it's time. Probably better stoned
Love iiiit. Will be blasting Our House when I finally own my own home, so probably never but I can imagine owning one while listening.
Some great Neil Young songs and the rest is quite bad.
Not bad
acapella 3/5
Good
норм
It was ok
An all time classic to some but I think its just ok. Young certainly made the band more than what it should have been.
5/10
“Woodstock” is the best song on the album. “Helpless” stands out in a bad way. The lead vocalists on that song sounded horrible. Most of the other songs are forgettable.
Had to listen to David Crosby solo yesterday and now this… There is way too much country/folk/psychedelia on this list. I’m so damn tired of it. This has the songs you know and is mercifully short. Still hate Neil Young’s voice.
The supergroup of CSNY is exactly what you'd expect from the artists involved - a rare case of the total being exactly the sum of its parts. Good enough, easy listening down home rock, not mind blowing but not awful - pure middle of the road for me.
I’ve never been too much into folk rock but I do like CSN&Y
Mono is not optimal for headphones. ...reminds me of daytime TV intro-music. It's got some groove though! 3/5
Some songs were good, didn't care for some. Not my genre or preference of music
Bastante sin más, pero está entretenido. No hay mucho más que comentar, recomendado si te gusta el rock de los 70. Canción destacada: Teach Your Children
Embarrassed I never listened to this, but then I heard the first song and realized why. Some of these songs are great: Helpless is great, but it's clearly Neil Young. Really, the overall tone of the album is too folk-y without the hook-y for me. Reading other people's reviews, seems I have an unpopular opinion. This stuff just isn't for me and I guess it turns out that I like Neil Young but maybe not CSN. Shame, because the album cover is sick.
This was pretty good. I've had more than my fair share of Neil Young albums come up so far, so his presence on this album scared the fuck out of me (his solo albums have been shockingly bad). However, there were some pretty good tracks and only a few low points (ahem, tracks with the aforementioned Mr Young's vocals prominent).
Varied
I like it, I am still listening to it but a great old time country feels
Folk, Rock, 1970 -> 3
Iz okay for me
Git, ale nuda
Never listened to CSNY before. Nice blend of rock and country. Best song: Our House
Woodstock vibes
decent album. ensemble singing slow jam rock
Nice album, very musical. Blend of country and blues.
OK
Good album. Their collective harmonies work well with the music. Very laid back and soothing. Peaceful. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again
I liked it! I think of singer songwriter, Americana when listening to this. I like the guitar, both electric and acoustic, as well as the keyboards in Carry On. Vocal harmonies are smooth with digestible melodies for easy listening. I may not seek it out but I would happily listen to again.
Opinion may be biased because wasn’t feeling 70s music at the time.
Really pleasant album, great music and harmonies
Pretty decent, though why does Neil Young have to sing on this, I STILL don’t like his voice.
Meh, some good stuff here, but I'm not much of a Country fan and the slide guitars got me down.

Not a fan of the country stuff, but the bluesy stuff is not too bad
Very nice collection of songs - I do tend to skip the most country-ish songs, though. But the rest are wonderful songs by great legends
Great guitar and great voices but not really my style, i did enjoy it anyways :)
Relatively dull '70s Hippie folk rock that doesn't move the needle for me, except for the song "Almost Cut My Hair". This is the first time I have heard this song (and most of the songs on this album), and it absolutely blew me away. This David Crosby led song really changes the entire outlook on this album for me, and brings it up a peg. Really disappointed in the Neil Young led tracks as I figured they would be the most interesting to me Best Song: Almost Cut My Hair Rating: 6.0/10 3 Stars
1- cool harmonies. i love the chord prog. feels like the color brown. ooh, beat switch up. nice. 2- oh, I heard this song in a commercial once. its cute I guess. its not terrible, but not outstanding. 3- this gives off..like, fleetwood mac x late 70s/early 80s rock vibes. 4- this feels so sad 😭 feels like a sad "sweet home alabama". it'd be good for singing as a cover. 5- this gave me dorney park vibes for some reason. it sounds like if thunderhawk had a song. its not bad. 6-the start sounds cool. its like queen x the beatles. the part after the beat switch up feels like cool water. 7- aw, I've heard this before! i didn't know it was by this group. its sweet. reminds me of maggie. 8- ooh, I really like this one. it feels like a dusty attic with sunshine filtering through. 9- I love the instruments in this one. its great. 10-eh. not bad. 6/10
Son typique que je connais de CSN&Y. Je ne sais pas tellement quoi dire de plus : un bon album bien fait mais rien qui m'a jeté par terre. 7/10
It's ok, just like that. Zdecydowanie za dużo na tej liście jest niemal bliźniaczych albumów.
It was nice. I didn't hear dog from the cover though. Could be 4.
Couple of fantastic songs blended with pretentious whiny crap on this one. Never got why Teach Your Children was such a hit, Woodstock is a much more pleasant listen.
Better than I expected. ‘Helpless’ and ‘Woodstock’ are great songs, “Teach your children” a classic. It’s interesting how the Neil songs are instantly recognizable as his and on the others, where tight harmonies rule, he’s nowhere to be found. Curious a supergroup as there ever was. 3.5
Some good titles, a bit heavy on the Country side. I still don't like Young's voice.
Rating: 7/10 Very good overall, a lot of catchy melodies.
I enjoyed parts of this a lot, our house is such a good song. In parts found myself getting bored.
3.5 I mean if they wanted to give the credit where its due, it should be Young & Crosby Stills Nash
I get it, but a bit to much
Wel ok 6/10
Pretty good
70’s
Good 70’s rock
Meh. Decent, bit experimental. Good folk vibes. 'Our House' is obviously a killer song, same as 'Helpless'.
A few recognizable hippie tracks on this one
No es mi tipo de música, pero tiene unos puntos muy altos, "Country Girl", "Almost cut my hair" y "Our House", "Deja Vu" está bastante buena también. Tal vez deba escucharlo más.
Some great songs on here

Just a bunch of high people making some decent music. Overall was ok, but I cannot stand "Our House". It's just the epitome of a boring song.
CSN and Neil young separated for a reason, better off as separate entities.
It's alright. Feels real flavourless and lacks soul. The only song that really struck me was Helpless, where I finally now understand why people hate Neil Young's singing. Fuck me that song was dreadful. Country Girl was pretty good though, as 'epic' as you'd ever describe a folk rock song. Really not much to say here. Plain ass album. A real meat and potatoes, straight up and down, beef Wellington, "Don't trust the Argies!", dick in the vagina, cheddar cheese, and chicken tikka masala record.
Seeing both the genres tagged for this as well as this lists current run of 'supergroups'. I was dreading that the albums name was going to be an omen for what's to come. I was pleased to find that while there is definitely a consistent throughline in the songs on this album, and you could absolutely manually look through certain songs on the tracklist and find them samey. The way they were presented in their correct order kept me satisfied. Though I can't really say it was something that was particularly entertaining. A lot of songs that were just pretty good. Highlights: Our House, 4+20, Country Girl
...I'm stupefied by how uninterested I am by the album 5/10 Fav tracks- our house Least fav - idk man
джентльмены собрались и навалили на троечку
OK country album
Classic folk rock.
“Kind” rock, maybe like Creedence Clearwater

If I were a middle-aged man with long hair blasting this album in my convertible on a highway as the wind licks my receding hairline, I would love it. But I am me and this is not for me. Turns out the only tracks I liked are the ones written by Neil Young. I think they really stand out.
Didn’t love as much as I thought I would
I got tired of it as the album went on. I do like some songs, but it all blends together
Buen disco, me gusta mucho la polaridad de las diferentes voces y los coros en cada tema. Por ahí hay algunos temas de relleno.
Pleasant enough, but nothing that really stands out as essential
I feel like I've heard this before.
Some great songs some mediocre and some just did nothing for me
Didn't mind it without loving it. Couple of decent tunes mind.
Like it 3/5
Albumi #83, 19.10.2024 Folk rock -ryhmän kakkosalbumi on varsin mukava kokonaisuus. Erityismaininnat kappaleille "Carry On" sekä Stephen Stillsin soolokappaleelle "4 + 20".
Does exactly what you would expect with our house a shiny piece of pop rock
I'm slightly surprised I've never heard this album before today. Certainly heard many of these songs and I have to say this is already the best CSN(Y) I've heard. But I still find their singing irritating and for that reason have a hard time getting into it.
It's kind of curious that this collection has the first and second album by Crosby Stills & Nash, and nothing else, mainly because these two albums seem somewhat interchangeable. When I started playing this album, in fact, I actually wondered if somehow I'd gotten the same album I'd listened to before, but then realized it was just that there were another bunch of radio hits on this album too (as well as a thankfully much smaller number of largely forgettable harmony-driven tracks). I *do* like it that Neil Young's influence can be heard and felt on this album, as there's definitely more instrumentation to many of the songs (compared to their Young-less debut album). And the radio hits remain both familiar and fun to listen to once again; especially "Teach your children" and "Carry on", but also "Our house" and to some degree "Woodstock". I also enjoyed "Almost cut my hair" as a surprisingly not-CSN-sounding song, and Young's "Helpless" sounds almost better on this album than his own releases. Overall, though, there's not much cohesion to the album, a product it seems of the way each band member recorded and composed on their own.
Quite nice. Not my favorite of theirs (looking at you "almost cut my hair") but still good
3,5*
Truly wonderful--it's clear why all of these guys are so famous, although kinda hard to believe this was the best selling album any of them ever made.
So all four of these musicians are considered songwriting geniuses and between the four of them, this is all they could come up with? It's not horrible and there are a couple of adequate radio-friendly tracks on here, especially on the second half of the album. But really, I fail to understand the genius of any of the four members individually and have rated them around 3 stars pretty consistently throughout this 1001 album project. Maybe you had to grow up in the 70's to truly appreciate them - but even if I'm simply 30+ years too young for this, there are so much more exciting albums that were released prior to this one. Par for the course, 3 stars for radio filler music between the actually exciting hits that can be found elsewhere.
Ugh, difficult -- it's not bad and there's obviously historical value to it but on the other hand, it's just another badly recorded, garbage sounding, blues dad rock album from the seventies.
It was alright, didn’t blow me away but was decent enough. Not sure I’d listen to it again in a hurry though.
Classic album but I never loved these guys. Always bored me. Listening to this probed to be no different. Bo-ring.
I RECOGNIZED SOME SONGS ON THIS ONE! would i listen to it again?? mehhhhh probably not. am i glad i listened to it?? i think so? overall, i liked it - i love a guitar solo. makes me wanna pick up my own guitar and go absolutely hog wild. daily dad update when i told him i listened to this album - "A classic."
There are a few songs I really love (Woodstock, Our House) a few classics that are ok and a bunch of really bland songs that bore me. It’s got it all! I think I just wasn’t mellowed out enough when I was listening to it. I can appreciate that this would sound best around a campfire with some good weed.
Lots of hits, excellent tight harmonies, and a more eclectic mix of songs than what I would have expected.
Still pretty good
Classic folk-rock album of the hippie generation. Not everything aged great
P.s. o Neil Young é canadense. Melhores músicas: N/A Piores músicas: N/A 2.5/5
Peak hillbilly/stoner/hippy jams plus a song from the office.
Did not leave a lasting impression. Pretty, but nothing special for my ears.
meh
They definitely have their signature sound. Solid album, more of the same as their other stuff I've heard. Sounds good but the harmonies get a bit tiring after a while.
Legal
Not bad, but the album wasn't really my style. A bit too slow for my liking.
Both ups and downs. Helpless is a classic.
good album, pretty relaxing
I get the sense these guys would play well together particularly live. Greta musicianship, but the whole album seems rather complacent about their status as a 'counterculture band'.
3.5
Really enjoyed this, would be great on vinyl.
Pleasant
Pleasant folk music, with lovely harmonies. The Nash songs were the best and kind of overpowered the rest. Stand-out: Teach Your Children
Until today I hadn't listened to a whole CSNY album but somehow knew what it would sound like and well, it did! There's nothing offensive about it, folk/country/soft rock with vocal harmonies and late 60s hippie vibes. By track 4 or 5 you'll understand why the album is titled as it is... by track 8 it could have been track 2 again and I'd have been none the wiser.
There are parts of this that are incredible, but it's all weighed down in this hippie-era slop of pretension and ego. Still, it's undeniable that there are some incredible songs on here.
Decent songs and good harmonies as you'd expect. It was however, an extremely slow and depressing sound for me.
Well put together but didn't really stand out to me.
A total classic. Young Neil’s Helpless. Our House and Deja Vu are all astounding. There’s a song about a little thing that’d just happened the year before called Woodstock. The harmonies, as always, are impeccable. If an epic like Judy Blue Eyes had been on this, it’d be even more of a monument than it is. That said CSN seem very separate from Y on this. It’s like two bands stuffed onto one album. A friend left this record at my house like a decade ago and never came back for it. Considering I’ve only spun it once since then, I feel that shows my level of connection to it. As I said, a total classic, but its not quite my vibe, so three stars due to personal taste. Neil would go on to greater things, and CSN have better showings as well. Sixth album reviewed here.
did not find it super engaging, but there are some highlights for sure. Our House is so beautiful, can't believe those people calling it cheesy and shallow! I think a 3.5 overall
I’m never quite sure what to do with albums like this, because yes, I get it was era-defining and incredibly popular, but I’ve always felt disconnected from the Hippie movement, especially when it’s done as earnestly as is from CS&N. I’m not counting Young, because I totally get his appeal. I enjoyed a fair few of the songs, especially Neil Young’s, but there’s always this aspect, this idealism, that I can’t get past. I think it’s best summed up by Our House, which I think is fine as a tune, but as a message, it’s completely antithetical to anything I’ve ever known. The world has so thoroughly changed since 1970 that the idea of being in the future, looking back, and being able to say ‘well it was hard, but we’re doing OK now’ is something I’m certain I’ll never be able to do. I don’t begrudge the album that. But it’s still a barrier to enjoyment that I can’t overlook
Would probably have rated higher if I hadn't had like 5 Neil young albums recently!
An enjoyable album but not one that I would listen to again in a hurry.
Beard guys rule
3.9
Very surprised. Not much to folk music, but this was pretty decent
Not bad, nothing stood out.
not bad, can come back later nice melodies, harmony
Guys were just hanging out and harmonizing back in the day. This album was fine, it's Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young who I've listened to before (though not just one album straight through), so there weren't any big surprises. My favorite song was "Woodstock" which was the only one on the album not written by one of CSNY lol
Notey Marimba!
Steady
It was pretty interesting by song 5 they had a slower song that picked up and they also had a lot of guitar solos
It's perfectly okay. I think I had really high expectations for this album, and they didn't match them.
Couple great songs on here (Our House, Almost Cut My Hair) but on the whole a bit meandering for me.
So men having long hair was " letting your freak flag fly" in 1970? LOL. If they only knew. .
Because of Our House, I'm bumping this album to 3 stars. That song deserves a star of it's own.
It's called Deja Vu because it sounds like every other country/folk/rock/blues mashup album released at around the same time. OK in places.
Nice wholesome folk. Our house is a very very very fine song.
I feel bad giving this a 3/5, but whatever. It's fine. I think CSNY are a bit overrated. Neil Young is great. David Crosby is good. The harmonies are great. But overall, I'm non-plussed.
- really solid Americana - love the vocals
not a Neil Young fan & not a fan of folk rock either, but this was better than I expected. enjoyed the harmonies, different guitar sounds, and most of the lyrics.
Love Mary Neil Young - it is a classic standard. Has its share of hits and awesome harmonies.
easy listening, but nothing that is going to blow me away. a nice little dip into the country music sound, but short enough that it doesn't linger for too long.
Every song kinda sounds the same
Decent. Mostly too slow for me. I liked the guitar beginning of Woodstock.
