Reviews (page 11 of 13)

Harmony echoes, Timeless voices weave through dreams— Deja Vu reborn.

Almost a four, it's very close. I really liked the more rocking songs as opposed to the folkier ones. The guitar work in those songs is brilliant and I'll be returning to those tracks I'm sure. Fav songs: - Carry On - Teach Your Children - Almost Cut My Hair - Everybody I Love You

A great acoustic and vocal album, as expected! Not bad, but not my favorite CSNY outing.

The vocals are obviously the stars of this album, and the three and four part harmonies are great. Some of them sound like a chorus pedal, some sound like an a cappella group, but they’re all great. The instrumental work, it’s a backdrop for the singing in all the songs except Carry On, imo. This album is extremely full of hippie-isms, which is fine because it was peak hippie time, but I laughed through Woodstock because all I could think of was that episode of South Park where they’re all stuck on the front of a festival. It’s a great song but I’d never listened to the lyrics that closely before; it’s super festie. I kinda got bored by the end as the songs all start to be a bit more slow and folky after “Our House”. Overall it’s good, but I’ll stick to the singles.

First two tracks slap then they were bragging about not getting their hair cut and I turned it off.

i did just cut my hair!!! exactly what i expected, but very well done. lot of young's voice. but well done. 2.75

The album is OK, except for when Neil Young sings (e.g. Helpless). I don't think I realized "Our House" was from CSNY.

The familiar singles are a little trite feeling, but that's literally because of how much they've been used in movies, TV and other media (Our House, Teach Your Children). The harmonies are otherwise lovely (and not used on every goddamn song - looking at you Beach Boys), and the unfamiliar, non-harmony leaning songs (Almost Cut My Hair) are pretty good. Boomers aren't all bad. But for Neil Young.

Not my vibe.

Thought this was going to be boring but it was rather pleasant!

It’s ok. Slow, vibing music

Meh. Not bad, but not their best work overall.

I don’t know if I love this or find it extremely strange. Maybe a little bit of both? It’s not cohesive, that’s for sure, and I think that’s what’s throwing me off. Main thing I learned is that I really, really like Stills as a guitarist, and I adore Young as a guitarist. Both of them have such a unique style (it makes sense that they were in a band together in another life) that just sounds unlike literally anything I’ve ever heard. Stills’ playing is a lot cleaner, but I think Young’s sloppiness is actually what I enjoy. Above all else, that makes this is good listen, because the guitar work is kind of cool to hear, as long as you’re into that sort of thing. I’ll also say, I think they’re all good songwriters. Now, I have a least favorite [Nash] and a favorite [Stills], but I’m not against any of them. I think all four have highlights and lowlights here. For me, all the lowlights are the folky, somber, acoustic tracks that seem to fill out half this record. Songs like “Teach Your Children” and “4+20” just do nothing for me. I am a bit stuck on “Our House,” as it’s got that post-Beatles domestic romanticism of romance that’s just cute and hard to resist, but then I think about it and it makes me roll me eyes, too. The other thing I don’t love are the psychedelic tracks. I don’t hate them, surprisingly, because they’re not so left-field that they ruin a song and/or drag it down, as psychedelic stylings tend to do, but they are…jarring? They just come out of nowhere. I think when they’re grounded by Young’s eccentric playing, they work a *lot* better, but on “Carry On” or “Deja Vu,” they feel unbounded and too loose for my taste. I’d also say, even though I’m still new to Young’s discography, his songs here feel, well, like lesser Neil Young songs – like, nothing standout, but nothing bad, and sometimes he does just have a knack for something gorgeous and true, like the last third of “Country Girl,” where he nearly brings me to goddamn tears.
For me, though, Deja Vu lives and dies on the strength of its pure rock cuts. “Everybody I Love You” is a great closer, “Almost Cut My Hair” has all the gravity I think CSN&Y think the rest of album has and actually makes me sympathetic for aging hippies, and then of course “Woodstock” rips. I do like other songs on this album, but I don’t love them, or I only love pieces of them before they stray into territory I disagree with. These songs, however, are incredible standouts, through and through. While the rest of the album sounds every much like Music for Retiring Hippies™️, these 3 tracks sound legitimately timeless, vital, essential. And like, what do you do with that? How do I rate an album where I adore 3/10 songs, but then like anywhere from 30% - 50% of 4 other songs but would fast forward past the parts I don’t like on them? My general rule of thumb is if I like over half the songs on an album but less than 90%, it’s a 4/5, but like….what about half-of-a-song? (My other rule is if I would buy it on vinyl, and somehow, I already did, I’d just never played it, and I realize it came from an old yard sale dig I did when I was in my teens, and somehow I’ve kept all those albums because it was a good dig and my crates are still mostly organized by “order of purchase.”) I think when all’s said and done, once I’m more versed in all their solo work and prior bands’ output, I may need to revisit this to make a better determination, but as it stands, I can’t say I’m looking forward to that revisit. It’s just too piecemeal for me, down to parts of the song, and no album I actually enjoy would elicit that much nit-picking from me.

Not my usual thing but I appreciated it as an artifact

Somebody has a Neil Young fetish

Ehh album. Not too much to my taste but gotta give credit to the guitar work and the vocal harmonies.

A good album I liked Helpless and Carry On.

Crosby Stills and Nash have always felt like a 'you had to be there at the time' kind of band. Neil Young's Helpless is fantastic though.

I don't really like the big hits from this one (Teach Your Children and Our House). The rest of the album is alright. The songs where Neil Young takes the lead are my favorites, which isn't a surprise since I like his solo work.

I found Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young's *Deja Vu* to be more enjoyable than I expected. While most songs landed around a middle-of-the-road 3 rating for me, there were a few standout tracks that I would rate a 4 or 4.5.

Sweet.

This band confuses me. Did they some of the same music both under their CSNY name and CSN and Neil Young separately when they split? Which was first? Do I even care? The answer is not really. The music is good though. Helpless is a definite Neil Young stand out. Teach the Children is great. Almost Cut my Hair, Woodstock and Carry On have way harder rock vibes than I usually associate with these names. The harmonies are beautiful, the music is well made. Not close to my favorite album or musicians but undeniably good music to listen to.

Alright

Record sounds great overall. There are some good songs, thru Woodstock mainly. Overall feel is really piecemeal. It doesn’t feel like there was an overall connection, just 4 songwriters tossing out songs. I’m surprised at the lack of cohesion - Workingmans Dead and American Beauty from the same time/area hold together more. Still the vocals sound great!

# 225 : They've done a pretty decent job. I think Its OK, I could listen to it, but For a super group it didn't sound like the best of any of their offerings and was kind of ordinary for all the hype.

Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young are Dad Rock: 201

Decent folky album

It's better than I thought, but it's not great. There are some songs that I actually like, but then there are some that sound like country and country just plain sucks.

alot worse than the sum of its parts, a sad thing to be I dig the frantic scratchy kind of guitar solos Young/Stills did in this group. There's some other cool sounds. mostly they get buried. Even when I was younger and hadn't soured so much on hippie bullshit, this album is a part of the Neil Young discography I only listened to once through and didn't feel like revisiting. Helpless of course is an all timer, the rest of the songs are weak. "it's never too late to give up on your dreams" in song form, without any of the humour. Neil Young sings a lot about the lost potential of the hippie years in his later albums and though he did get involved in bunch of either cool or understandably misguided stuff I can't help but cringe. Neil, you & your buds weren't gonna change the world, you got comfortable and quit before you started. music: hated. (⌐■_■)

Mellow, chill, got a few nice grooves & tunes. Felt like inoffensive background music.

Lovely, vocal harmonies and some folk hits, but overall didn’t really do it for me

5.5/10

I like this album. An amalgam of the members; all different and distinct voices. Our House will always bee a favorite.

I had to re-write my thoughts on this, because I initially found a lot of it incredibly boring. However about half way through I thought it picked up a lot more and I was way more on-board with it. I went back and re-listened a bunch of times and actually it grew on me much more and I was able to appreciate it. There are some lovely songs in here as it turns out. 3.5 rounded down.

I do sorta like these guys more together than their solo work. I like the vocal harmonies, it makes the voices more than the sum of their parts, where in isolation I find some of their voices grating. Not terribly interesting songs on this album, but they do sound beautiful.

good entry, not something I'm likely to listen to again but not objectionable.

Calm and steady. I knew Our House before.

I’ve listened to this a few times and want to love it but only a few songs ever do it for me. Still solid just not killer. Rating: 3.5

first few tracks were good, and rest of the album was okay.

still to listen

Pretty good vibes but no stand outs

If Synergy is The interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young is the antonym of that. Individually they’re great but when they come together they’re just good. Our House being the exception. It wasn’t bad by any means but you just expect so much more when 4 powerhouses come together like this. It just made me want to listen to some of Neil Youngs solo work.

Surprisingly good, and better than the other CSN album for sure.

Sounded kind of like the Beatles but not really. Some good songs but overall I was feeling ok about the album.

5/10 - There were some nice songs. I liked the old-timey feel but also they were not the most interesting all the way through. Helpless was good though.

Het gezellige Our House is mijn favoriet. Rating: 8/10 Highlights: Carry On, Almost Cut My Hair, Woodstock, Our House

Good mix of southern rock, 60s pop and a little twang og c&w. Great harmonies! Mostly okay songs, none bad but none truly great either. Helpless is basically Knockin’ on heaven’s door with different lyrics.

#171. It's pretty good. I like it overall, but at the same time it's not really anything special. 3/5: decent

Growing up hearing CSNY, I dismissed them as lame, hippie music. Now that I'm older, I can appreciate them more, but not all of it. I like Almost Cut My Hair, Woodstock, and Our House. Some of the other stuff is still kind of lame.

I love CSNY harmonic music. I aporeciate the political content of DEJA VU, but didn't love the music

Slightly better than average Cracker Barrel music.

Excellent song writing. Some folk, some southern rock, some prog rock, some pop.

The early 70s must have been a difficult time for the flower power generation - the optimism of Woodstock giving way to the realities of settling down, raising children and (gasp!) maybe even getting a hair cut. This is an entertaining collection of folk rock songs, with the highlight probably being their version of Joni Mitchell’s Woodstock. Not entirely sure why the cover photo has them looking like something from the 1870s though.

Really good folk rock here. The title is well found though (in the litteral sense in French, rehash), as it is not particularly original. But nice to listen to.

Mostly harmless.

Iconic folk-rock record with some very memorable songs of the Woodstock era. A couple of fluff songs with less substance, but overall a very good listen.

Again, easy!

Nothing wrong with it, just not my style. I like Young's solo stuff a lot better.

Again, Neil Young. His voice probably does harmonize well with this group, and the others, for ME, have appealing voices. So it is a step better overall than Young's titled album. However, it still features his voice often enough for me to find it a bit of a grind at times. I know that I am stepping on the toes of those that worship at the throne of Neil Young. I have my bands and their detractors as well. But it doesn't invalidate my feelings, nor theirs by me choosing a line. I really like Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Not so much Young. It is what it is...

Nice listem

It was OK. Some of it reminded me of Simon and garfunkle, but mostly more upbeat. I was surprised by some of the counter culture sentiment while I should already associate the sound this generation mostly sold out so the sound is ironically associated with a generation that figured it out then collectively lobotomized themselves

I wonder if there is such a thing as too much talent in one album. This collection sounds really unfocused and I would bet changes drastically based on who was driving on the song. As a result, I really like parts of this album, other songs just don't hit for me. I also refuse to believe that this was part of the 60s counter culture when the hardest song on this album is one of them whining about not cutting his hair.

3.5! I like the sonic sound of CSNY, might have hit a bit harder if I hadn’t gotten the Crosby solo album already.

Is this the shortest album we have had? 21 minutes is shorter than a TV episode. Peaceful tunes with a good harmony between the boys. Another strong 3 album, but nothing spectacular to warrant a 4.

I have always liked the multiple singers in these bands whether Young is there or not. Fine enough album with no high or low points really it's kind of just all good to me.

There are times I really connect with this, and others where it feels like they are trying too hard - too many harmonies etc. There are some great songs, but overall doesn't do enough to keep me wanting more.

It’s ok. Chill music

CSNY Deja Vu 72.87 Carry On(77) Teach Your Children(74) Almost Cut My Hair(80) Helpless(81) Woodstock(67) Deja Vu(74) Our House(77) 4+20(50) Country Girl(67) Everybody I Love You(76)

Nice harmonies, a little dated, and a little short, nothing really blew me away

Fun poppy folky songs. Biggest complaint is the production makes the music feel far away if that makes sense. Almost cut my hair is a banger. I’ve almost cut my long hair multiple times in the last 7 years of having long hair and I have been happy that I never cut it and have let my freak flag fly all this time.

6/10 Highlights: Almost Cut My Hair

Not bad, easy listening

Not my preferred genre but solid album, easy-listening 70's folk / classic rock. Bonus for neil young. 3/5

Until now, I didn't know So Far was a compilation album, and after listening to this album that it pulls from, it makes sense. Teach Your Children Well, Helpless, and Woodstock are timeless, but so much of the rest of this album has not aged well IMO.

Decent Album

Deja vu, our house, and country girl are all pretty good. not gonna overly hate, this music isnt for me but there are for sure some moments in this I enjoyed

Incredibly likable. I hadn’t expected to enjoy it quite so much as I did

classic. most not available on spotify, though.

Wonderful harmonic blending with classic songs that bore me in succession. Hearing one of these songs on the radio pulls me in. Hearing the full album did not enhance my appreciation though.

Prog rockia. Tulee Yes tosi vahvasti mieleen. Parhaat: Our House, Teach Your Children

Alright, but really short.

Quite nice. Not my favorite of theirs (looking at you "almost cut my hair") but still good

I think this is a great example of 70's folk. It was hard without the Young songs, but I was able to track them down on Youtube.

Men ändå helt okej country/folk. Mysiga låtar med bra budskap

Good country/blues or whatever it is considered.

Spotify didn't have all the tracks due to licensing disputes against the platform. Bummer.

Not the worst, not the best.

A really enjoyable album to listen to. You can tell that the music is shifting between the sounds of the 60s and heading into the 70s. The songwriting is incredible and so are the harmonies. The instrumental sections show off each artist’s skill. The album has a ton of variety and most of the songs stand out from one another. Top tracks in my opinion are Teach Your Children, Helpless, Deja Vu, Our House, and Country Girl. A solid three and I’d hear arguments for a four.

Did you know that there's a deluxe edition of this album that is over 3 hours long? Crosby: Alright guys. The album is sounding great, but we still need to come up with a band name. I was thinking "Crosby and the Crew". Stills: Really?! Cause I was thinking something along the line of "Stills and Salty Sailors" Nash: I'm not going to be a sailor. How about "Nash and the Nomads"? Young: We could go by "Neil and his Young Boys".......... Nash: Screw it. We can just go by all of our names. Who's going to be the lead singer? Stills: Why don't we all sing the whole song at the same time? Crosby: I wrote a song about getting a haircut. Do you guys want to sing it with me?! Stills: On second thought, why don't you solo that one buddy. This has been a NPR production of "Deja vu". If you enjoyed what you just heard, stick around for an additional 2.5 hours of alternate version of the same songs.

Second greatest vocal harmonics in rock behind the eagles. Forgot our house is on here. More dynamic songwriting than I remember. Last album: Deep Purple. If you hang out around Emma’s dad enough you’ll hear Deep Purple. Today’s album: CSN&Y. If you hang out around my dad enough you’ll hear CSN&Y.

Zanimljivo, isto nemam neki poseban komentar

Yet another CSNY release, to go along with the seemingly dozens that we've already had. More of the same stuff; not super exciting, but a couple of good songs on it. In this case they are "Almost Cut My Hair" and "Helpless".

Almost cut my hair and our house are the two things saving this album from a worse fate. A few of the songs aren't available on Spotify which was annoying but yk that's life. The less country-esque songs were where this album shines tbh. But the lows were too low to rate it higher. 3 stars

Not a bad, old-school, hippie jam. Some neat tracks on here, and some cool instrumentation. A lot falls a little boring and mellow for me, but that's more personal preference. I think it's a talented group of guys. Fav tracks: 4 + 20, Carry On, Woodstock

On its own, I’d say that this just another classic dad rock album that I’m not super interested in but there are worse ways to spend 40 minutes. Unfortunately, probs because of Neil young, 4 songs were missing and there was no way I was gonna try to find them somewhere else off Spotify so this album gets a maliciously indifferent review from me instead of an aloof one.

I liked some of the hits on this album, but some of the deeper tracks were awful and boring.

Escucha amena, rock baládico, a veces country. Me gusta.

"teach your children" is beautiful af

Better than okay.

Cool album, but a little dated for my taste. The guitar solos were great though, and I was definitely a fan of the folksy sound. It was cool seeing that this album came out in 1970, while Fleetwood Mac's Rumours came out in 1977. The influence this sound has on Fleetwood Mac is pretty clear right of the get go, and this album was certainly easy to listen to. Only song I had already heard from this was: Teach Your Children as sung by Michael Scott on the office

Ei sentään mitään räppiä

whole album wasn't available to stream on Spotify.

Not my favorite CSNY album.

Not much different then the last album.

Not all of it is to my taste but it's hard to deny the achievement of this album. The first side: "Carry On", "Teach Your Children", "Almost Cut My Hair", "Helpless", and "Woodstock" would be most bands greatest hits album. The songwriting credits, in order, of Stills, Nash, Crosby, Young, and then Joni Mitchell really illustrate the collection of individuals that was this band. Each of the first four tracks sounds exactly as it on four solo projects that the other sat in on. Only when they get to the Joni Mitchell track do they actually sound like a band. I mean that as no slight. They were a "supergroup", and the democracy displayed was too incredible to last. The second side of the album proceeded in the same vein, one from each, and a Stills & Young collaboration to close it out. The second side

Pretty standard CSNY stuff. Never my favorite, never offensive

Excelente

First album of my 1001 album challenge. Listened at work so somewhat distracted. Really good album overall, I like the different vocalists. Nice harmonies too. A couple songs didn't resonate, but also some classics that I didn't necessarily know were this band. Highlights for me were Carry On and Our House. Good album. thought about 4 stars, but I'm setting the standards high here as I start my challenge, and there were a few songs that didn't really resonate with me, so landed on 3.

CSNY’s Deja Vu - well this will be a trip. New one for me. I’m sure I’ve heard Woodstock, otherwise this one’s outside my zone this one. Not a huge fan of country rock. Let’s see what this has got: Carry On - oh yeah, I know this one. This is a great song. 5/5 Teach Your Children - another famous one. Tend to be the sound I think of when I think of CSNY. Pretty good, very memorable. 3/5 Almost Cut My Hair - I love how era specific this is. Great guitar solo. I’ll be coming back to this one. 4/5 Helpless - a nice melancholy, sad song. Doesn’t stand strong by itself but a good transition song, not necessarily strict filler. 3/5 Woodstock - nice chorus, trippy chorus. Concert-going as cosmological existence. I half recognize / half don’t recognize this song. This is definitely a hippie record. I see this one is written by Joni Mitchell. A cover? 4/5 First half, has a good flow, the sound is very iconic, most songs the big hits. Pretty solid. Déjà Vu - I now realize these guys are the hippie Beach Boys. Cowboy Beach Boys. Meandering but beautiful. 3/5 Our House - and now a terrible Beatles song. Feels completely out of place. Seems the solid first half is going falling apart now. 1/5 4+20 - nice chill song. Not very memorable. 2/5 Country Girl - starts off awful, brings itself back a bit by the end. Can definitely feel the Neil Youngish bit about it. 2/5 Everybody I Love You - strong finish, for a very uneven 2nd half. 3/5 So, I was a bit hesistant to listen to this one. I thought it would be goopy 60s hippie love fest but it’s a solid rock and roll record, with some missteps. It has a melancholy vibe to it that feels like the end of an era. A solid first half means in the age of the LP that the 2nd half of the record got very little play, I’m sure. Although I anticipate it played better at the time of release. I give it 3/5.

Must be hard to hate each other when your voices sound like this together.

Some classics on here. Harmonies are good, but I think they suffer from being recorded in 1970.

A nice and short soft rock guitar album.

Unfortunately Spotify only has part of this album in its catalogue. Couldn’t listen to the rest

Good stuff. Nice messages in the lyrics. Enjoyable harmonized lyrics 4.6

A good listen. Nothing special to me.

I love Neil Young but a bit less enamoured by CSNY. Some decent tracks and some a bit less so 3 it is

Love Neil Young. CSN, not so much.

Always nice to list n to, but specially my favorite Our House.

Known before: Yes Almost Cut My Hair Our House 4 + 20 6.5/10

Known before: / Standouts: 05. Woodstock Rating: 6.5

It's...fine. I like Helpless a lot and the rest of it is inoffensive but not my cup of tea.

This album contains some excellent songs, and I really enjoy Young's contributions, but I think the overwhelming country twang of it all does turn me off from it quite a bit, as stuff like those country guitars feel cheesy and stereotypical, and the rock hevay numbers are forgettable. Still when the album pulls something off, it really pulls it off. Our House is really pretty, especially.

I love Helpless, Country Girl and Woodstock. Some of the other songs are good - but this is one of those records that is up and down. I’ve listened to this thing all the way through countless times - there’s still songs that I wouldn’t mind skipping.

Cool, groovy 70s sound. Feel like I need to be smoking pot along to this album. Enjoyable, 3*.

Lovely album, didn't realise I'd recognise so many songs

Very easy album to listen to, with some outstanding songs that really bring back nostalgia for me personally. My parents loved Crosby stills Nash& Young, so horse with no name brings back a lot of memories every time I hear it.

Was alright

woke old geezers remove a select few songs from album because of jo jo rogaine. meekly meh

It’s alright, nice to listen but wasn’t impressed

Half the album was unavailable on Spotify, can’t give a fair rating

Very nice entry in the CSNYverse. Not all tracks available on Spotify.

just a jam. our house!

KKona stuff

Their biggest strength is definitely their harmonies. I wish they'd utilise it a bit more.

i actually really like this. it’s almost a southern/country twist sounds almost like the beach boys with the multiple men singing at once harmonizing. i really like the calm steady pace. it’s very relaxing. unfortunately a few songs weren’t available to listen to but i still really liked it.

Only half songs on spotify

somewhere between 3 & 4.

I haven't listened to a lot of CSNY, but the few songs of theirs that I've heard, I've enjoyed for the most part. I thought this was a good album. It was about what I would expect from CSNY: the instrumentation was fine, but the harmonies were out of this world. Each one of these guys is a great singer in their own right, but nothing can beat their harmonizing. As far as individual songs go, "Country Girl" is the best song on the album in my opinion. The organ playing is fantastic, and the way that it swells and fades throughout the song creates a really great sound. Overall, this was a pleasant album to listen to, but it's not high on my list to revisit.

It was very fun and was a whole adventure listening to the album

Deja Vu is a solid album with some very iconic songs that somehow I didn’t realize were CSNY (Teacher Your Children, Our House, Woodstock). At times the harmonies can be a bit much, especially the opener Carry On. 7.7/10

Couple of songs liked but a little odd

Still not the biggest fan of them, but there are a few that I could really get behind on here, like Country Girl.

very nice tunes whole album isn't Spotify anymore sadly

Couple of good songs, a bit folksy for my taste. Almost cut my hair had a great bluesy edge and awesome overdriven guitar tone

Thanks Neil Young (and Joni Mitchell) for taking parts of this album from Spotify. I listened through a Youtube upload and must say I enjoyed it. It had tight, strong instrumentation and harmonies and excellent canonical hippie songwriting. Lots of classics included, and short enough not to wear out its welcome. I prefer the previous (debut) album a little more, but this one is still a fine listen.

Not totally available on spotify :/ but i liked what i heard. Bring back this kinda country

Not bad. Pretty much on par for CSNY

I love Neil Young, but I thought that this didn't match the heights of his solo collection. Pretty middle of the road for the most part. As a fan of Joni Mitchell, I did enjoy the cover of "Woodstock" as a curio, but that's about it.

Middle of the road for these guys

Hippie folk rock, random bites of electric guitar/rock jamming. I’m kinda mixed here because I really enjoy some of this but other parts feel dated and boring. There’s only a couple of songs that bring it all together for me. A bit of a hodgepodge but a solid one. Best song: Our House

Cool acoustic music with rich sounding vocals and emotions. Its a shame that on Spotify half of the songs is unavailable.

dog on the cover

Missing songs on spotify, re-listen at a later date. Available songs: 7/10

Fond of the song Deja Vu. Other tracks are good too but not something i actively seek out.

Very different from what I listen to usually. My first taste of folk-rock. Did not enjoy the pilot, but it got better. Ups and downs but enjoyable.

Spotify sucks and didn't have all the tracks. Youtube music had them but Andre came on my music walk so we talked about quantum computing. love the vocal harmonies and hippie shit, but I just want to listen to So Far instead

Not my vibe. It's fine though. 3/5

I wasn't really expecting too much from Deja Vu before I heard it. But now that I have, Its definitely better than I expected. I liked quite a bit of the guitar riffs and vocals even if sometimes, I felt the quality of the music sounded like it was coming off of a Game Boy Advance (could just be the quality of the YouTube videos that played these songs because most of them are 13-14 years old but whatever) Overall, while it doesn't really go beyond decent. I still said the word decent so that's what it is. Best Song: Carry On / Questions Worst Song: Our House

good vibe, like 'Woodstock' a lot. fun riffs, don't hear riffs like these anymore in music today.

helpless, woodstock, countrygirl, and everybody I love you - unavailable on spotify :( what was available was sonically dense and rootsy, something I could see enjoying in a family setting or at a reunion. was surprised at how much I enjoyed, but not something i would regularly listen to

Good one. Some cracking tracks in there. Unfortunately, most of the songs on the album were blocked on Spotify but what was there was enjoyable.

Several tracks missing from this on Spotify so had listen elsewhere. Shows the importance of keeping physical media I guess. A solid introduction into Crosby Stills Nash & Young

This was a perfectly fine 3-star album

This was better than I was expecting. Solid 70s folk.

Definitely not my typical choice in genre, but there’s decent music here. I like the more funky melody of Questions, than the more folksy melody of Carry On. I struggle with the vocals a little, though. It sounds almost like a monotone choir singing from their throats instead of their diaphragms. Teach Your Children and Helpless are feel good country tunes, but I tend to steer clear of those. Almost Cut My Hair is more my speed. Rock ballad with depth of both sound and vocals. I’m familiar with Our House, but never knew the artist. Again, a feel-good tune. I think someone used it for a tv show theme song long time ago. While the overall sound of Deja Vu doesn’t resonate with me, I can see why it would with other listeners and fans.

Met de geforceerde zin 'Our house is a 'very very very' fine house' gevolgd door het Beatles-achtige gelalalala.

Not bad, just not my thing. I knew the band because I love Our House (in this album) and Helplessly Hoping (not in this album)

Good album with some great acoustic tracks. Very 70s.

Nice folk acoustic album, surprised I haven’t recognized many of these songs, easy listening.

Ok even though I will be highly this is an album that you must hear to understand the development of post 1950s popular music in the US and elsewhere. The singles are good. The album tracks are filler. The harmonies are absolutely made, not by David Crosby whose note choices are admittedly superb but by the tone of graham nash who brings a clarinet into a flute ensemble (vocally speaking). Nash is the secret sauce. There are vocal blends I prefer. Otherwise. Bloated. Self indulgent, insular, learning all the wrong lessons of Dylan and Joni Mitchell, it’s an artifact rather than art. But yes. Worth a listen. 2.5 rounded up. Also Neil young is overrated.

Just a couple days after getting some Neil Young, here he is again with his friends. Gave it a couple listens and enjoyed it, was more varied than the typical folk rock I was expecting. The opening song in particular had a great change up in the middle that i didn't expect. An album to give some more listens to for sure, but isn't blowing my mind yet.

Grudgingly I'll admit these songs are pretty great, even if three-quarters of the band are pretty dislikeable.

Fine album of singer songwritery workmanship with those harmonies of different egis pulling in diff directions. Our House is well twee and others mark the end of the 60s and Vietnam etc.

I know it is a classic. I like a lot of what Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and Neil Young put out, but then this one never really got to me.. don’t know why. Guess I find it boring to some extend.

Solid 70's folk rock, but not memorable or my style.

Didn't hate it. Rounding up from 2.5.

I may be in the minority, but I don't like the harmonies & I can't stand Neil Young's voice on this album. I enjoyed Almost Cut My Hair but didn't care for the folksy Americana tracks. The ones with a rock sound were pretty good, but I wouldn't play this again. Our House is grates on my nerves & just can't stand that song.

B- Carry On - 3 Teach Your Children - 3 Almost Cut My Hair - 3 Helpless - 1 f*** Neil Young Woodstock - 3 Deja Vu - 3 Our House - 5 4 + 20 - 3 Country Girl: A. Whiskey Boot Hill / B. Down, Down, Down / C. “Country Girl” (I Think You’re Pretty) - 5 still f*** Neil Young, but this one was actually good Everybody I Love You - 2 I know Zep is notorious for song-theft, but the Carry On/Friends sound is audaciously ripped off. Shame on you, Zep! This was friiggin awesome. I didn't expect to like it, because I wasn't a huge fan of CSN, but ironically the addition of Y made CSNY very good. Who would've thought? The weirdest part is that Y was my least favorite part of the album, but I guess he helped elevate their overall sound. There's a life lesson here, but I can't figure out what it is. Anyways, f*** Neil Young.

half the album is missing on spotify

Foundational rock with a county vibe. Some nice guitar work. Highlight was Carry On.

Not bad, I just don't like the vibe of most songs. Favorite song: our house.

It's fine. Probably the best of the CSNY stuff that I've heard. But it's still just fine. Almost Cut My Hair is fucking stupid.

Plan on giving this a re-listen soon--enjoyable, but nothing really stuck with me. All the songs are very well-written and well-composed, but it felt a little unforgettable at the end. Definitely some standout tracks on this, and it was short enough that it never got tiring or dragged-on. (Favorite Tracks: Helpless, 4 + 20)

I don't understand why it is the highest-selling album of each member's career to date. Nothing special for me, maybe I'm too young. Need to relisten in 10 years. "Helpless" is nice.

Enjoyable - our house will forever be associated with an advert from the 80s though

Lovely lovely, but sadly cut short by spotify

Decent

Some nice ballads and versatile themes.

This was one of three albums we had on cassette on a lad's holiday in the Lake District 30-odd years ago. We listened to each one many, many times. So I know this album well and it's a good one. However, it's not a great album, some of the tracks have aged better than others. Neil Young's presence seems a little lacking. There's also a dip in quality on side 2 in my opinion.

Yeah mate alright solid blues rick shizzle

Nice for background music, nos my fav

some nice songs but again not going to search this out again

fav: country girl

I couldn't listen to half of this (due to spotify licensing?) What I heard was OK but not special

I'm not really getting anything super impactful from this.

Bit sickly sweet at times and not enough Young for my liking

Stephen Stills' Manassas yesterday and now I get this today? This gives me a sense of...Déjà vu. Only this record is better.

Not my favorite but not bad either. Definitely surprised by the guitar expected more folk and got some rock in there. Couldn’t evaluate the whole album since half the songs were taken off Spotify. Thanks Joe Rogan

Bangers.

woodstock désastreux mais our house trop mignon

I haven’t listened to this full album before. Woodstock was my favorite song. Mostly enjoyed the instrumental grooves throughout the album.

Almost Cut My Hair

Kind of expected more from this for a supergroup offering and I tend to like other stuff of theirs (both solo and as a collective) better. ‘Carry On’, ‘Déjà Vu’, ‘4+20’ and ‘Country Girl’ are the picks here.

Something about these guys is distractingly passive. It seems like there's some great content being wrapped up in unnecessarily docile clothing.

Been a while since I listened to this one but remember it being sound with ‘Helpless’ one of my standouts

Graham Nash and Neil Young take turns writing songs which leads to an album that runs around folk-country-rock and then completely turns around on its head

really mid tier to me, it's decent but i've liked their other stuff much better 6/10

6/10. On the better side of blah.

One good rest rubbish

Good, but not a great album. I found that this band was more of a vocalists meeting, than famous instrumentalists. Plenty of beautiful vocal arrangements, especially in the first part of the record, but it doesn't bring anything new or special to the musical books. One song was definitely from a different mould than the rest. "Almost Lost My Hair", fully written and performed by David Crosby, is a really good piece of music. Slightly progressive and psychedelic in nature, it has a really good and interesting guitar riffs and solos. The issue is, after seeing how good this track is, it's definitely a shame that the rest of the album is underwhelming. This record is a great piece of trivia, something you would listen to out of curiosity, but not for pleasure.

Good oldie rock

Not quite what I expected this to sound like, but that's a good thing. I figured I wasn't going to like anything here, but it was pretty good. I think it's a little too folky at parts, which draws me out of it, but oh well. There were a couple songs on here that I already knew but didn't know who the song was by, so that was interesting. I liked each of the singers' voices and their harmonies together. The harmonies reminded me a bit of Yes. My favourite songs were Carry On and Deja Vu.

Gentle, folksy vibes. Good for background music when I have adults (like mom) visiting.

Started off really good with "Carry On" and continued to be great! Didn't listen to the following tracks because they weren't available on Spotify: Helpless, Woodstock, Country Girl and Everybody I Love You. Therefore this isn't a complete album review. I really like the vibe of this album and I am surprised I haven't listened much to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young before, because I have obviously heard of them.

Preferred this album to the other efforts of the contributors that we've had - they hide Neil Young's voice really well in this one - and it's not a bad listen, if a bit bland. Beautifully put together, some nice harmonies, and nicely sung. If it was on Spotify I'd probably revisit it, as it isn't I won't. 3/5.

Soulful and good car-ride music

This album has some very good songs but not all.

Great classic rock folk blend

Very middle of the road

Smells like Boomer Spirit

Ik verveelde me nogal snel. Maar eigenlijk is de muziek wel oké

Didn't realise some of the songs were theirs.

This is a good album. Enjoy the folk rock and the harmonies But don’t know something just isn’t there that makes me want to add to my rotation. For that reason it misses out on the 4 stars.

Carry on-cute little two parter, if a little indulgent👍 Teach your children- this is teetering on the edge of sentimentality for me Almost cut my hair- I like the music, but it all seems a bit overdramatic in the lyrics department. I get the long hair anti military thing now, but still, a bit melodramatic Helpless- I like the idea, wish chorus was a bit stronger👍 Woodstock- quite a funny thing to cover if the description is true, but sorry Joni, find this quite saccharine Deja vu-I like this song. Starts off quite fast paced before becoming more ruminating and vibey👍 Our House- this shouldn’t work for me, its so sickly sweet, but just so cute I can’t help liking it👍 20 + 4- bit of a throwaway Country girl- This is so overblown and too loud, good foundation but doesn’t work as a whole Everybody I love you- This definitely feels like a closing track, the instrumental does pop off👍 All in all, this is a bit incohesive for me, but I am a sucker for some of these. Enjoyed overall, 3/5

Lite upp, lite ner. Helt okej dock.

Pretty good for country. Thankfully nothing like the new pop country crap.

Perfectly enjoyable, with about half the songs being songs I've heard a thousand times. Great to hear them in the context of the record they were all released on.

This was good, not sure what else to say.

I liked it. Nothing really else to say

noniin. NONIIN... kyllähän ne MUSIIKKIA OSAA tehdä.. amerikkalainen SUPER RYHMÄ.. hehe. NO EI KYLLÄ KUMMONEN SAATANA OLE KUITENKAAN... VITTU SUPER HYPER PERRRKEELE:.... on muutama hyvä biisi mutta VITTU ALKO VITUTTAA VÄLILLÄ PISTÄÄ VITTU VIHAKSI OOTIN VÄHÄN PAREMPAA SAATANA!!!!!!!!tylsäää tylsää booooring boooring nooh... oli se ihan hyvä.... almost cut my hair paras

Kiva albumi, kaikki biisit erilaisia, kuitenkin sama soundi. Instrumenttien paikannus hyvin suunniteltua, aika analyyttiseltä kuullostaa. Spotifyssa ei ollu kaikkia kappaleita.

Four combustible egos combine to craft an album of the ages that served to embody the times; a generational work showcasing stars both past, then-present and future tense and a chronicle of what was and will never be again. Favorites: Carry On, Helpless, Woodstock, Déjà Vu, Our House, 4+20.

Doesn’t blow me away.

Beetje zoals Simon garfunkel

Always surprised when a classic album is so understated and uninteresting. I've heard songs here and there but am just fine with it. It's not bad, and objectively talented people made it, but I wonder if it gained popularity just because of the people who made it.

Another Neil Young record which fails to win me over. This just sounds like a group of guys who just write songs all day about anything that crosses their mind, and while some of them are good, there’s something forensic about that sort of practice. One track in particular sounds exactly like something off of Harvest (and not in a good way) but there is actually a decent amount of variation on this record. For that reason, it’s a bit of a disjointed, uneven listen.

Half missing on Spotify since Neil Young took his catalogue off of the platform but a pleasant enough listen

Hippy galore

A bit one-dimensional but great harmonies and always a good listen

Not my favorite from this group, but I am always impressed with their crisp harmonies and simplicity in their sound.

What a great super group. I really enjoyed the groove they put down for each track.

No strong feelings. Fine

good folky

nothing that breaks the mold, but something you can put on in the background without worrying too much about it

6.5 out of 10 didn’t know this was Neil Young

i liked this more than i expected to!

Nice happy music but a bit slow. 3 stars.

One terrific song (Our House)

It's a little bit of decent Neil Young, and a lot of generic country. Helpless is the only track that's really great all the way through.

Some good songs in there. Really liked almost cut my hair, but not really my kind of music.

Good but not my thing

I was never a impressed with this album as my contemporaries. Has a couple of good songs but mostly is too sweet. Much like their work with Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young's contributions stand out and Stephen Stills is horrifically bad.

Strong first side, then it kinda lost me

it’s csnl so you’re always guaranteed some quality music, but this wasnt anything special.

Listened to on 8/4/22 3.5/5 Favorite song: Teach Your Children, Our House The mix of these humans is so good but I wouldn’t say any part of the album was that memorable

It was a good listen to the whole album when I had only heard a few songs before.

It's unfortunate that the people with the confidence to perform in this manner have the largest egos.

Some great songs, but some real weak points and overall doesn’t feel as cohesive as some other CSN (excluding Y) albums

Starts out great, but was slightly disappointed by this. Excellent muscians but much of it didn't really excite

For sure, this was a classical week themed on this site. Unfortunately, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young is not exactly my cup of tea. I have already tried some times; I got all their influence in modern music, and I like a lot of some solo production from the quartet, but the releases when they are all together, they are just ok.

Greit nok

This has at least three iconic folk rock songs direct from the popular hippie free-love consciousness of the end of the 60s. Pretty good stuff overall and a fine album to mellow out to. The trio really benefited from collaborating with Young, and vice versa, since based on the popularity of this album all their solo stuff sold better.

Never heard this before. Forgot Neil Young was in the band!

Enjoyed it, too bad it's not on Spotify. 3

Why does it feel so much longer than 36 minutes?

Mellow stuff

Really good, love the opening bassline

I generally like CSN better with Neil Young in it. There are some really good songs on this album. I re-listened to "Carry On" just to hear the lead guitar (Stills, I think). Sometimes their pitch-perfect harmonies are almost too clean and sweet, which is a funny thing to say, but it's how I hear them. Very talented songwriters and strong performers. I don't listen to them anymore; listened to them a lot during my college years. I enjoyed the trip back in time while I listened to this again. It feels a little dated to me now and I don't expect I'll seek their music out again any time soon, but it's a good album.

I can't listen to this album in Spotify but I can say about this band is a referent.

Just okay

Album of country/blues rock tracks, for which the 60's and 70's apparently were very fond of. It's OK, but nothing special. 3/5

Decent album with a couple of stand-out tracks. Still don't particularly like Neil Young's voice - sounds like John Malkovich doing karaoke. I get the impression that Stephen Stills was the real talent here ...

Some songs I thought were absolute slappers (Our House comes to mind) but there were also a few duds in the tracklist
