Reviews (page 7 of 7)
RnB sure is fucking boring.
Is it R&B or is it Hip-Hop or some sort of weird hybrid. For me it just doesn't work. The most annoying feature of the album are the spoken interludes between some of the tracks.
Choosing hip hop shouldn’t give me soul/r&b.
Not for me
Some cool beats but this didn’t need to be listened to.
not good for Christian radio
Ish. Not for me.
REALLY not my thing haha I enjoyed Pick Up Your Feelings, theaux!
A good theme doesn't make a good album. The positive thing is that it's short
Not my jam.
I feel like this is kind of unremarkable R&B. I’m amazed that this was album of the year for NPR in 2021. I perked up when I heard Anderson Paak come in, but that was about it.
The album has important themes. I really like the tale and song combo Edit Mar 17 2026: 3 --> 1. I don't like those vocals
Банально, пошло и матерно
It's just more of the same pop R&B that's been constantly recycled for the last decade.
No. I don't like this style of music, I don't like songs interspersed with talking, and I didn't like this even one little bit.
I don't hate it, still not my thing, I would say it's kinda basic tbh dare I say, boring... Again, they all kinda sound the same
Yeah, there's really not much I liked about this.
Eww no
Not for me
Just…… awful!
Nope. Too R&B for me.
Er no.
I love that song this women did about smashing windows that was on an earlier album but this album is f***ing awful. Hated every minute of it.
Not really my thing. I didn’t care for the music, lyrical content, or vocal style. She did have a decent voice, it was just wasted on trashy content. 1/5
Neaux thanks.
Bad, I mean really really bad. I'm guessing her agent snuck this on this list so it would get some listens on Spotify.
Not for me
Couldn't finish it
As I have said many times before, I can’t deal with the talking throughout. I also just don’t think this type of music fits to my ears well. I respect, but don’t love.
My dislike for this album is almost entirely due to the modern production/mix techniques. ...also it's boring. Immediately distracting as to how cut and paste it is - Jazmine has a unique voice but it's only one ingredient of many (all) that are so processed it's impossible for me to fall into the music. Which is again: boring. I respect and enjoy when someone puts a concept or theme album together, but the spoken parts throw me out of any flow... then again when the flow continues it's super compressed and such separation of parts that it almost makes me dizzy. Maybe this is an album to actively *not* listen to in headphones. TL;DR: I don't like it. :P 3/10 1 star.
I’m ending 2024 with a 1-star album. 2025 be good to me.
Well that was terrible. It started with fake "vinyl" pops, that completely makes me hate it. As I said in a previous review I do not need to be reminded of the crapness of vinyl as a material for music reproduction. Then there are the vapid lyrics especially in the "tales". So after Rashida's tale I couldn't take it anymore.
This is #day138 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... learning about feminism, sexuality, and other themes through plastic TikTok hip-hop? Fuck, no. I prefer another way. For example, I'd talk with my wife. Because there's no one more knowledgeable and interesting to listen to in this regard. I object to this being on the list. It's a 1 out of 5 from me. Looking forward to #day139.
2.5/10. I feel really bad for giving this album a low score. Feminism is awesome, and this album can be really empowering for other 17-year-old girls like me. However, unfortunately...I don't like the music. For me, personally, the music is more important than the lyrics. The lyrics could be inspirational, and they could also be about a freaking frog with leprosy finding a bag of Skittles aboard the Titanic; what matters most to me is the music. The music just doesn't cut it for me. Some tracks feature an annoying trap beat, while others feature lackluster R&B instrumentation. It bores me. I'd rather listen to Queen Latifah. Björk's Medulla shouldn't have been removed from the 1,001-album compilation to make room for this album. Sorry.
terrible
We should strive to be better. We ought to leave things better off than how we found them. Rise above, if you will. Instead of the review I was going to write, here's three albums you should be listening to instead : OK Goodbye - The Fox and The Bird. Incredible modern prog metal. Jellyfish - Spilt Milk. Excellent power pop, so fuckin fun. Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo IV. My single favourite album. "Welcome Home" alone is such a damn belter. Good luck out there. Don't listen to shite just because an app told you to.
- Phew, anstrengend irgendwie
It's not for me. Good singing voice though.
кто это? и нахуя это здесь? максимально пресный рнб я вообще в ахуе что сюда отбирают из 10-х и 20-х
Oh you have to be joking. This is just bad in every single sense. Since this was added to the list after the initial release, I assume something else was removed to make room for whatever this is? Explicit content is only really worth listening to if there’s some kind of talent involved aswell, and there’s absolutely none to be found on this album. I absolutely hate this style of music, and I absolutely hate the vibe based non-singing.
Could not find anything enjoyable in this.
On the right day this might be an OK album. This was not that day. Awful.
not going to listen to this one again. Not my favorite and did not seem to stand out to me.
Wow, that was the longest 32 minutes and 21 seconds of my life. In the spirit of this thing listened to the entire album. Painful. I suppose this was added because of the female empowerment movement at the time. I respect that, but I did not need to listen to this noise to have respect for women and their importance.
Not meant for me, nor enjoyed by me.
For me this is kind of forgettable pop music. I'm sure she is a great singer and all, I just don't find it interesting.
I didn’t feel empowered. At all.
Does not offer much new. The dialogues are not interesting.
Nope, did not need to hear this. Also, hate the way they spelled 'ho' as 'heaux' - just terrible, like she's not even from Louisiana? Too many skits and I don't feel the whole empowerment thing behind the lyrics, on top of that wasn't even very impressed with the vocals.
Didn’t like it. Only listened to 4 or 5 songs
Nee sorry, niet voor mij. En als ik lees dat het afgeleid is van de Miseducation of Lauren Hyll, dan snap ik wel waarom.
Bottom of the barrel gutter trash music with insipid faux deep low IQ hypocritical conversations between songs. Is the Michael Jackson wannabe on this Jazmine herself or someone else? You know what, I don't care. Total crap. 0 stars.
This is wack as hell and the lyrics made me physically cringe a few times. The only thing I liked about this album was it was a half hour long
Rap. I didn’t like this. I don’t like the short staccato form of rapping and the overt sexuality really turned me off, although I understand that’s a personal thing.
Not my thing
Not my thing.
Not bad but not special. Brings nothing new to the table so why bother at all.
Who? What? Yeah nah, this album has no business being on this list.
I do appreciate the woman empowerment theme of this album. I also like the concept of a song relating to some spoken word track immediately preceding it. What is disappointing to me is the actual music. It sounds dated, over produced, too many effects and layers of vocal track. I really wanted to like this album but overall I do not. I’m not sure how this landed on the list. In this genre of female artists give me a Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, or even Sza album over this any day.
This has to be a user suggested album as it's from 2021. I cannot fathom someone having listening to a new album everyday for 3 years and still being musically uneducated enough to suggest this pile of hot garbage.
Not something I enjoy
Did not enjoy
Trash. Shouldn't be included in an influential albums list.
When I think of the 1001 albums to hear before you die, it’s baffling how this one ends up on the list next to giants like Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles. Sure, the theme of female empowerment is significant, especially given today’s social climate, but shouldn’t we be celebrating albums with timeless music and profound, thought-provoking lyrics? This album feels bogged down by surface-level clichés and talking points, lacking the depth that truly great albums possess.
New album for me. As a first impression, the music sounds like generic r&b, but fine and probably will only get better after a couple of more listens. But too many spoken word tracks break the flow.
Why was I subjected to that?? And how many better albums were dropped from earlier versions of this list to add that garbage in the latest version? zero.
Not my jam
This does not belong here
Very average album
The most memorable thing about this album is the spoken parts. Music bad.
I liked and still like the Commodores, I love Barry White and many more, R&B and soul were great, but I don't understand what is being produced today under this or related labels. I can't do anything with it. OK, some of the music snippets are interesting and beautiful, but they mostly come from a different time. It may be that her lyrics are important and good. It's great that she writes them herself. Unfortunately I can't do anything with it. I'm sorry, but it's not my music
idc
This booty ass album has no business being on this list
Just no
This is horrible.
This album highlights many of the issues of modern dating and relationships from a feminine perspective, but rather than a critique of those issues, it seems very much of a glorification of the vapid nature of dating and lifestyles in general of today. I appreciate the insight into a lifestyle foreign to my own, even if it is anathema to me. I agree with some other reviewers that this was maybe added a little hastily. It seems lost in a sea of other similar releases over the last few years.
Ya I got like 15 min into the album and realized I am NOT part of the target audience😂
Not good, made me angry
did not care for this
They really just completely gave up when choosing albums from post-2015, huh.
Não consegui chegar na metade das músicas
This is the most recent album on the list that I have found. Is the author saying this is the best thing recorded in the last three years? Thank God it was only an EP
Albums I have not been recommended yet: 'Mama's Gun' Erikah Badu 'Raw like sushi' Neneh Cherry 'Adventures in Paradise' Minnie Ripperton Thankfully I've already heard those and one track from any of them is worth more than this entire album. Not objectively bad, but how I needed to hear this before I died I've no idea. Is it a control specimen so I can judge talent, greatness and influence since this is pretty neutral on those key factors? I am far too old and this album is far too new. It also just sounds derivative, it's an also-ran melting-pot of nothing in particular. Apparently the lyrics are good or at least interesting, but I couldn't stay focussed to give them any thought. Also the "candid" conversation bits need to get in the sea, if I want to hear that shit I can just get on a busy bus and not put my earphones in. NEXT.
Not "6 Music Dad" friendly. I hate it. Couldn't listen to it, not my thing.
There are exactly four tracks that are legitimately good, four tracks that have bad lyrics and a bad message, and six “tales” that act as interesting interludes between the music. I’ll start with the pros. Bodies, Pick Up Your Feelings, Lost One, and Girl Like Me are great examples of how to use themes in modern electronic pop to make well-textured, smooth, listenable R&B that appeals both to general audiences and music enthusiasts. The lyrics are fairly uninteresting but still relatable, discussing topics like love, relationship, and interpersonal conflict. Now for the cons – and they’re some pretty serious cons. Put It Down and On It are essentially a love letter to the small population of well-endowed men, and they perpetuate an insecurity that a huge proportion of guys have about their bodies. For an album with such a commercialised sound (trying to speak to a wide audience), this ain’t gonna fly. I guarantee that any man singing or rapping about a woman’s body like Jazmine is here would be shunned, cancelled, the works – and rightfully so. In addition to how frustratingly tone-deaf and entitled the lyrics are, they’re also just poor lyrics, and they distract from the otherwise great sound. On the topic of entitlement, the tracks Price Tags and The Other Side speak to another fairly toxic dimension of partner preferences in men: wealth. Sure, you have some oldies that commit the same offence (ABBA’s “Money, Money, Money” is an obvious example) - and I’ll admit I dislike the lyrics of that song too, but at least in isolation, it expresses a desire without trying to rationalise it. However, combined with the interlude “Precious’ Tale”, Sullivan is essentially saying that because she (and/or other women) grew up poor, and yet they’re confident in their attractiveness, they deserve to have a wealthy, hard-working, attractive man to themselves. It’s another really tone-deaf pair of tracks that expresses an ugly shallowness and sense of entitlement which take away from the rest of the music. I’m all about social progress, but this doesn’t feel like social progress to me. (Hopefully I’m completely off the mark here and Sullivan is doing social commentary about the commodification of men, but I doubt it.) Edit 4/1/25: This album has aged poorly in my mind. (Liking someone solely for their money won't fly, sis.) Bumping this down from 2 to 1. Key tracks: Pick Up Your Feelings, Lost One, Girl Like Me
Liian monta kertaa vaginaan jääpi..
Day50 - this isn’t the worst i’ve heard so far but it’s not far off l. 50 albums in and i’ve heard more bad than good
Sucked
Meh
Nope. Not for me. And it's from 2021. I did not think it was old enough to make a list of classics.
nah, i'm not playing this shit and it’s mostly just the title
Sums this generation up when absolute cack like this is recognised in the charts.
Garbage. Think Ben is to give this one a 4
Fuckin pass
This isn’t for me. Hell, it isn’t for anyone.
The music was alright but I found the talking annoying. Wouldn’t bother again 1*
This record just passed me by. Luke elevator music or the only station you can get on a long drive but can’t be bothered to dig around to play a cd. And what with the bits of interview scattered throughout? Who the fuck cares about a millennial that puts a z in their name instead of s?
A snoozer
I can't stand R&B; it's one of the very few musical genres that do absolutely nothing for me, except make my ears die. All simulated bling vocals and soft, placid beats. Even if the songs are saying anything I can't stand listening to the treated vocal noise. One R&B song/album is pretty much the same as another, so why I need to hear yet another collection of of it before I die remains a mystery.
1/5. Not because the music was bad, but the message is awful. This is what young inner city folks look up to. Pathetic and a horrible way to look and go through life.
Not great
I really tried to find some redeeming qualities in this album but alas, I could not. The music, or beats, or whatever you wanna call it was uninspiring. Very boring. Reminded me a lot of the simplistic lofi beats I put on to study. Jazmine’s voice is fine but nothing overtly special. The lyrics and overall theme is where it lost me. I just don’t jive with that lifestyle. Wrong demographic I guess.
one hundred percent, not for me
My ability to withstand this type of music is measured in nanoseconds.
I feel like I have heard 100 albums that all sound like this, to the point where this went into an Aliyah song after it was finished and I didn't even notice the difference. It's not a style that I generally enjoy. Polished, competent emoting, and of zero interest to me. The songs don't speak to me and the music has had a personality bypass by way of the production.
Probably somebody put money to put this into the list. Not interested
19/100
I hated it and the messing around with the production made it even worse. Sorry this is not good. no no no
Music-wise it's not really audible for me. I don't like this type of modern american rnb. Couldn't get through the full album. Lyrics are much more relevant and social conscious, apparently, but with this type of music I just couldn't focus at all. Big miss for me.
Oh god no, went in with a completely open mind as had never heard of her. Everything that's terrible about modern music; sexuality over content, basic basic beats and everything run through a thousand autotune filters. 1
The best thing about this album is how short it is. Skip all the chatting filler and you can rattle right through it. Ho Tails
Hip-Hop, a.k.a. the bane of popular music. 1/5
R&B doesn't do anything for me. Subject matter of the songs doesn't do anything for me--in fact, many of the topics are treated like a thread on Twitter, which shockingly translates quite poorly to music. Arrangements don't do anything for me. I understand that it's tough to gauge recent albums for how much they belong in this list, but this feels like a pretty avoidable miss.
This week we've received quite a few "recent" releases, and it hasn't been too much fun. Oh boy, what a Lauryn Hill rip-off this is, and its not a very good one at that. I'm all for female empowerment but her hyper-sexual ranting left me cold. Sorry this is just not my jam.
Garbage af
It's probably my least favourite genre of music but this has an astonishing lack of merit. Musically tedious and there are better examples of the genre from that year alone. I don’t believe this will stand any test of time.
I am noticing a theme here - music that can be PERFORMED for an audience wins me over far more than stuff you might have mixed in your bedroom for YOURSELF. first impression is hthis is a private musical diary and scrapbook of their "TRUTH" great for them.... (first track, fully of "Get it together Bitch..." and yeah yeah acapella whaling). I am saying to myself "on no, more American urban attitude and shared trauma, violence and struggle... there isnt going to be a single song on here". I have nothing against social commentary / perosnal dioary turned into an album.... but in this case, nup. this is an urban petry project, an interesting cultural document, but not for me, enjoyable. I am not the audience, I know. Do I really need to deal with the attitude and statements-as-music .... I don't disagree with the social messages and aspirations, necessarily or owning your own script in urban life. but the MUSIC IS LACKING . zero enjoyment... but a good and mabe significant social historical document/project 1 star.
Dreadful, like a z grade Beyonce. Speaking of which where is the greatest artists of the last 20 years in this process? Back to Jazmine, is her voice autotuned? Or is it just the sound they use these days in terms of how they are producing voices? Lazy, boring arrangements which just don't pass muster, truly soporific and uninspired. This 21st century flatlining pop music is an absolute blight, I think we've lost the plot. And those spoken word sections, truly an ill thought through idea that no decent producer would have allowed to go through, really, really annoying. Is this here for other reasons that have nothing to do with great records?

No thanks
Nope
Not horrendous. Just boring. My idea of hell is a road trip where the DJ plays non-stop R'n'B. It's such an insipid genre.
It wasn't that good. From a hip-hop perspective the beats are basically nonexistent. There is a mix of R&B in it rather than just hip-hop. Nothing is memorable. I understand the purpose of the vignettes but I don't care for them on albums and that is not exclusive to this album. It is a short album which helps. I don't think I am going to revisit it.
1.5
Emily The Album. Production is ok, rapping is meh, the whole album is not very interesting musically and the lyrics are hideous. Half of it is not even music, just talking over very basic beats. Vocals are great in a few songs where she actually sings, but it is the only redeeming quality this album has.
That album sucked and I really try to be open minded..terrible….not one of the better picks
This is vile, so of course many of you degenerates will laud this.
The entire enterprise justs comes off shallow...
Very Few moments I could relate too when there’s a touch of 60s soul
You know, she has a nice voice but I just like music that makes me think of more uplifting things than poor girl who doesn't understand how she keeps waking up in strange people's beds. Glorifying being a heaux? Ayyyayyyayyy!
meh. This really didn't interest me at all. Great voice, interesting ideas - really average execution if you ask me. Price Tags was almost great... but none of this was stand out good to me.
Not my thing, sorry
Dear God no.
Heb er maar flarden van meegekregen, maar dit is echt niks voor mij. Klinkt als 13 in een dozijn R&B.
I was going to attempt to write a humorous review to compensate for the basic fact that I just don't get this kind of music. Then I just thought I'll just tell it like it is : I just don't like it. At all. Sorry. Xx
1.5
nope. 1/5
really not my style
No.... Just no.
Would be no starts if possible.
