Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Too early to be calling this one an essential, let it bake a little longer. Will I listen to again: 0%

Mom can we have SZA? We have SZA at home

Ficou a lembrança da voz agradável, mas de nenhuma melodia.

That money keeps that pussy wet

R&B style statement album from 2021, it was alright

Not absolutely horrible, but not worth listening to. Barely 2 stars.

Sorry, I'm not into this. It has an interesting and innovative structure at least.

The newest addition yet, question isn’t really why it was added but what did this replace?

The Other Side and Girls Like Me were nice listening but overall pretty self deprecating lyrics, especially the short little “chats” sprinkled in as tracks.

At least it was short.

Not horrible, but just not my thing.

Never heard this before. Disappointed in the censoring Youtube Music put throughout this album. I'm not the target audience, but the music and singing isn't compelling to me. I like the approach of having spoken word from various "real" individuals prior to each song. This gives a 'reality' to the lyrics. Unfortunately the lyrical message often falls into celebrating stupid cliche'd behavior. "Take this water and hydrate, bitch"

It’s nota bad album, but gonna have to go with a 2 for me personally mainly because of the genre and not really hearing anything that would raise it above similar albums.

Favorite Track: The Other Side

Pretty good

Eugh, so first not my genre, second I am a dude, so a lot of this doesn’t necessarily connect in the same way as if I were a woman. That said I can appreciate the idea behind this album. Do I like the execution…not really? There are a few instrumentals I really liked! But then, a lot of the songs were a little too, blah, they didn’t sound different from other R&B I’ve heard and the parts that were different were generally about people I don’t really want to root for or hope they get what they want. If Lost One is inspired by Rashida’s Tale, well I don’t like Rashida based on her tale! Same with Precious! It falls into a trap that concept albums sometimes do which is, why do I care about this person’s story if the person kind of sucks. I dunno. Theres enough good and okay on here to prevent it from being a 1, but I think of so many albums from the past 10 years that are better AND more influential that deserve to be on this list

Not my style but it's ok.

This is a second go around at this album. Just not for me.

I like that this album is filled with themes of female empowerment, but the way it went about it is just for not for me. Musically, it sounds very outdated and uninspired. He songwriting direction did not impress me either. +1 star for the message +1 star for 'The other side' - the only song I really liked +0,5 star for the singer 2.5 stars

Did not care for this

I don't get excited about this, in particular the spoken intermezzo's are annoying.

She has a nice enough voice and the music itself is alright. Lyrical content though… leaves something to be desired…

Not for me

No, not my kind of jam.

Easy there Lady R Kelly.

Trashy lyrics with a good voice. Hard to enjoy.

R'nB is really not my genre.

For something that dropped just 3 years ago, it already sounds dated and tired. The track with Paak on it was one of the few redeeming areas. 2 forgettable footnotes out of 5

very bland modern music. She has the standard good female voice, which to me has kinda lost it's appeal. when everybody is copying the same voice i can't really hear the difference between singers. The music and production is sparse. Well mixed but when you have just 2-3 elements it is probably not that hard. Modern music really don't do well with album in my opinion. Not bad but it just feel like any other modern RnB +Soul + Hip-hop album. It's not my type of music so maybe i just don't understand it.

Some of this may be ok, but overall I did not like.

Not an album I had to hear before I die.

Really not my sort of thing

This album is not for me, it is fine. I thought that the spoken word segments were interesting and tie the album together. I don't have any bad to say about this one, but it's not something I would ever listen to again. I've been on a rough patch recently with this list. hopefully I can get some albums I really enjoy soon.

Country album, nothing special about it

I totally respect what she was doing but the subjects did make me uncomfortable and I’m not big into R&B. Fully support what this artist is doing though. Listens: 1 Fave Track: Lost One Rating: 3

Weird one, could have been a little like the mighty Jill Scott (who probably isn't on this list), but it falls short. The vignettes are not particularly flattering, and the songs aren't terrible, but they aren't amazing either. Time will judge that this isn't a classic of any type.

FUCK tales.

Modern Pop and R&B that follows a concept. Usual tricks abound. It's not particularly exciting to listen to and there aren't any melodies that hang around. Bland and inoffensive. At least it's short - so it has that going for it. I'd like to know how the list can decide on these modern albums when there hasn't really been any time to see how well they last... Best Tracks: Bodies - intro; Pick Up Your Feelings; Girl Like Me (feat. H.E.R.)

This was okay, but a bit out of place on this list. Pretty forgettable overall. Favourite tracks: Pick Up Your Feelings, Price Tags.

I’m so confused. This is such a deviation away from what this list has normally done and I feel like it’s the only one past 2010 even so far. Not that I disliked it but not what I expected and I feel like there’s a ton of better more prolific modern music in general and hip hop more specifically.

not really my type of music and there were too many inderludes between songs

Oooh, something very recent. The awards confuse me because it sounds like a lot of what's on the radio these days. It's a nice sound, but nothing outstanding. 2.5*

I really enjoyed parts of the album when I had it on in the background whilst pottering about. Nice R&B arrangements and harmonies. Didn’t really tune into any of the lyrics or the narrative in the filler ‘tracks’. So wanted to give it a second listen properly. Second listen under the headphones whilst reading the lyrics. Wow, didn’t realise ladies were this direct in this day and age! I felt very old, in fact I felt like a dirty old man listening in on something I shouldn’t be listening to 🤣. A little relieved that I hadn’t casually popped this album on whilst having dinner with the family as I sometimes do with the 1,001 album list as it usually generates a conversation!

The problem with this is, according to the write up, it's all about the lyrics and the issues she wishes to address. So as a casual listener who approaches this for the first time will miss this point and think, this is pleasant enough, but is it really the best of the genre? A 1.6 of a star. So rounded up to 2.

not my style girl :(

There wasn't really anything compelling about the songs on this album. The "Tale"s were interesting and diverse but they were the only thing I liked. Overall, it had no business being on this list.

Ah, meh attempt at making every rnb clichee of the 2020s sound artsy by interjecting supposedly empowering samples that is just adding to objectification of women. So it basically fails at everything it’s doing, apart from sounding not terrible. If it was only trying to be a collection of singles, it would have potential. On it and The Other Side is pretty cool, but not enough to save this mess.

Considering this album was released in 2021, this is hardly a "classic" or even worth my while. I've never of this, but I guess I'm listening in the wrong places. I'm getting tired of albums, especially by rap/hip hop artists who literally need to tell us about their problems and their empowerment issues. I don't care, but apparently someone does to deem this album "essential". Interesting with some good beats, but a hard pass.

Sheesh

Nice but not 1001-worthy.

This is what I like about the daily album - I never would have heard something like this otherwise. While it’s not for me, really, I can see that she’s very good.

Several spoken songs, rest are standard plain R&B. Nothing particularly stands out.

Don't care for this

Not great - I thought the music was pretty generic and the ruminations about sex were meandering and, excuse the pun, lacked penetration (in terms of insight, natch).

3/10 didn't excite me in any way

Pick Up Your Feelings The other side Her voice is alright. It’s just boring. Nothing special going on just the same boring song over and over. Can’t relate to it at all

I like the spoken word and much of the subject matter, but musically I didn't find this nearly as engaging as I hoped.

If you don’t have anything nice to say… 2.4

Reading the reviews on here and outside this site, Heaux Tales is very often compared to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I listened to both back to back. That comparison is borderline offensive. Heaux Tales isn’t terrible, but in comparison, she’s not close to Hill as an MC, beats are tiny. It’s not close. I get that importance of the theme of women’s sexuality but musically this isn’t a stand out album at all 5.4/10

Its not you, its me.

So, this comes a day after Appetite for Destruction for me, its an interesting comparison. I highlighted the misogyny in the other one and it feels important to do the same here. As a 41 year old white dude from Ireland, I've never had to assess the correct order for cash app and my pussy, but the message about getting paid isn't one I feel I'd share with my kids. Moving on from the message, it comes down to how this makes me feel. Did the lyrics resonate with me? No, can I imagine they do for other people? Sure. Did the music engage with me? No, I'm not R'n'B expert but I could name 5 better albums quickly. Did I like the idea of mixing spoken word and song? Yeah, why not.

Really cliche. Not my thing

Today's album is like shitty Destinys Child, and literally every second song on the record is an interview with a different woman who talks about how they control their relationships because they have the pussy or they only have time for rich men. Shallow music for shallow bitches is what this is. Not sure why this generic R&B is on this list. Sounds like every other over produced pop star making "music" today. Favourite songs: Put it Down, Price Tags Least favourite songs: Antoinette's Tale, Ari's Tale, Donna's Tale, Rashida's Tale, Precious' Tale, Amanda's Tale (fuck skits) 2/5

I don’t usually listen to a lot of R&B, but I am open to it. I thought the message of this album was really great, and the interludes were a cool touch. Not my favorite music in the world but appreciated from an objective standpoint. Feels like a bad bitch.

Very much the lemon and herb Nandos of sexual liberation. Limp, generic R&B with generic 'I'm so messy' observations. You'll feel like you bought SZA on Temu

The songs weren't that bad but I cannot excuse so many skits and interludes in 2021, that's 90s shit that should stay in that decade. Stand-out: Put It Down

Not my jam musically, but not unlistenable. I see where it has merit I guess. 2⭐️

not a big R&B fan, and especially not a fan of graphic discussions of genitals (from either side), but I suppose I have to give some points for women taking charge of their own bodies & pointing out that "in actuality, the pu$$y is ours," or the raw, honest discussions of how cheating hurts people. points lost for all the talk of essentially trading sex for money/favors, though, which, again, is gross from either side (at least the nuance is acknowledged).

I was thinking to myself that I’ve heard of Heaux Tales somewhere before, but then I realised it was just from when I was looking at the latest additions to 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, which is what all of these reviews are based on. Beyond that, I’ve never heard of Jazmine Sullivan before. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Pick Up Your Feelings There are undoubtably some very distinct, and very talented vocals on this album. Jazmine Sullivan sounds almost androgynous with her lower raspy lines, and she’s clearly talented. However, vocals are only one piece of the puzzle that makes a good album, and I found every other piece here to be very dull. I did enjoy the idea of songs based around the spoken word tales within this, but it unfortunately just didn’t make for very interesting listening.

So Heaux Tales isn't particularly remarkable, it's not bad but I think it has an inflated view of itself, albeit successfully as it's ended up on this list and been successful. It's like a wannabe Miseducation of Lauryn Hill but without any of the depth of lyric or content or worldly understanding (which is funny because Jazmine was 33 when she put this out, Lauryn was 23), the beats are passable but unrefined, there's the always unforgivable use of autotune at times, but there are a couple of really nice moments in there. Pick Up Your Feelings is excellent, also unsurprisingly the track with the most writers and production, and Girl Like Me finishes off in a similar vein. Probably a low 3 on a generous day.

This sounds way older than it is without anything particularly new to offer soundwise. It's pretty generic R&B, presume it caught the MeToo wave at just the right time given its lyrical content. And, to be fair, it does tackle that to an extent, but it's a bit too right on, a bit too obvious and lacking in the nuance that you get from something like Lauryn Hill. 2/5.

One very very good single (Pick Up Your Feelings) does not a great album make... nice to know the list has releases this current I guess

Why? Half the already very short album is 'skits', so beloved of rap and R'n'B. They are presumably supposed to add context but detract from the experience of listening to the music. Am the tracks seem utterly forgettable. Plus there's a lot of the awful mumbly triplets that Snoop Dogg has complained us ruining and homogenising rap. Snoop knows the score. Bin this right off.

Ok, but not for me. Pick up your feelings is great. The other side is a great track too

En general, aburrido

Feels like 90s R&B, not my jamz

This is going to be tough to be fair on because this style and genre is so far from my taste. It all feels substanceless. I have the feeling this would connect to someone I don't connect with.

Not exactly my style but I enjoyed some of the songs, Girl Like Me in particular I enjoyed.

Album 275 of 1001 Jazmine Sullivan - Heaux Tales Rating : 2 / 5 No clue as to why this would be on a list of albums that one needs to hear before they die. Even for its genre, I heard nothing special here. Nothing that hasn't been done by others before and since.

Never heard of Jazmine Sullivan before listening to this. Some interesting songs, not really my thing though.

It was alright... better than I was expecting.

Cat: not bad but not for me. I like her positive female message lol

Soulful. Better than I expected but still no

Why is this an EP and not an LP? There were 14 tracks! That's an LP sized EP if ever there was.

Em va passar totalment desapercebut, en plena època pandèmica. Però tampoc és que sigui un disc especialment ressenyable. R&B 100% made in USA amb intros (tales) que donen cert concepte i originalitat a un material que no en té gaire

I expected to hate this album. I didn't hate it. I found the first track interesting, and the intermittent 'tales' fit nicely. Mostly it fell flat for me. I won't listen to this again, but I didn't hate it either.

2.25 average per track, excluded the tales. This is not a type of music that I’ve listened to.

Never heard of her before. It was OK, but didn't hook me in

1/8, 13%

Although I appreciate the concept of trying to tell a broad story using songs and confessional interludes, I think the album is just a little too repetitive in content and form to be totally effective. For an album pertaining to womanhood with themes of feminism, I was hoping that there would be other perspective of women offered. Is there no loyalty? Is there no space for motherhood? Is there no love? The only mention of anything beyond hookup and party culture was the mention of two kids with a rich guy and a surrogate, which the narrator seems more concerned with her maintaining her image than the actual kids (I grant that her tongue was most likely firmly in cheek). But I guess the album's title essential means tales of hoes, so the album is at least honest to its title. (Begs the question: is the attempt at reclaiming the title's derogatory term Heaux simple the acceptance of that term and all it entails: sex for money, image over substance, short -term transactional encounters over long-term loyalty?) The longing and passion with which Jazmine sings about money and acquiring material possessions is usually reserved for expressing ones love of another. I can appreciate the irony and humor here, but I think the joke becomes lost in a great muddle somewhere between pure sincerity and biting sarcasm. Obviously, this album was not made for me, so I will try to be a bit more objective. The production here is stellar: voices mingle with sharp instrumentations and silky beats to smooth effects. Jazmine is obviously talented and has a unique voice, both singing and writing. I’lol leave it at this: my desire for people to grow and become better humans and artists leads me to truly hopes she will someday write an album that fully lives up to the lost potential here.

Didn't get into this at all.

Talented but not my thing

I thought this was one of the most boring records on here so far. Too much spoken word and it’s not even funny or interesting like parliament. And then the actual songs are super basic and generic sounding. I just didn’t find anything interesting about this.

Beside Anderson Paak's track, this sound isn't for me and the lyrics are too on the nose.

too r & b

I'm not a fan of R&B and this was not a good example Lost another star for the pointless spoken work bits Music or political speech, .pick one!

Meh not that interesting. I like the beat, but it sounds too familiar to be unique 2

Felt like it has a whole lot of filler. Maybe just not for me though. 2/5

Better 2nd half

R&B, like wine, I can tell you that I know when a unit is very good or okay but not explain quite why. Lack of exposure for certain, but that’s why this list has been helpful. There is really just a handful of random R&B on this list so that hasn’t helped. I can tell there is something here but am not literate enough to tell you what. That plus being behind made me just want this to be done. Sorry, Jazmine

I'm not the target audience for this and found it largely annoying and a tad preachy

contender for horniest album of all time. but you know what. you’ve got a great voice. you go girl.

I could spend some time complaining about how much I didn't care for this record, but at the end of the day, it's just not my thing. That's not the album's problem, it's mine. Some records are made for existing fans of the genre, artist, or whatever. This is one of them. I'm not a convert, and that's perfectly fine. Sullivan's vocals can really soar in places, and I wanted more of that! The song structures, production, and writing approach were just kind of stale overall. It feels like an inauthentic attempt at female empowerment, where Sullivan just throws around a lot of key words without any substance or meaning behind them. Faux Tales? I do wonder what the criteria is for including albums this recent on this list. Heaux Tales is two years old. I don't really remember anyone talking about it that much. Anyway, hope you're doing alright today. The Anderson .Paak and Ari Lennox tracks were solid.

I can’t tell how I feel about it. I liked Pick Up Your Feelings, everything else was kind of a blur.

Reading other reviews of this I was expecting this to be terrible, but it wasn't. It's not good, not by a long stretch, but its perfectly pleasant bland boring background music - but that doesn't make this an album I either want to ever hear again, or indeed deserving of its place on this list. It's like listening to clear broth when you wanted to hear mulligatawney.

I can appreciate what's being said here but I don't enjoy the music. 2/5

Really wasn’t expecting to see a 2 year old album on this list so I wanted to give it a fair shot but…. Yeah I did not like this one. The actual sound isn’t bad at all but the lyrics/some of the interludes are just stupid.

On this record Jazmine Sullivan comes across as the successor to Ms Lauren Hill. Lots of spoken word interludes and a similar mix of singing and rapping. I'm behind the theme of female empowerment, but this style of music grates on me. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Pick Up Your Feelings Date listened: 06/10/23

I'm never a fan of spoken word interludes. It's insulting to the listener, assuming that you need the context to appreciate the track that is to follow. Take away the ramblings and you have a fairly tight album. The bump 'n' grind ballads work well. And yes, I was able to keep up with the story.

Slightly generic music with a lot of talking interludes

Meh, soi sujuvasti taustalla eikä kahdella kuuntelukerralla löytynyt kummemmin tartuntapintaa.

En kokenut olevani kohderyhmää. Biitit ihan ok, laulut enemmän ärsytti

From the cover I was expecting it to have been from the 90’s which, of course, it is taking inspiration from while throwing a modern twist on things. It wasn’t for me, but outside of its negatives I found a couple of songs entertaining at least.

"Cool, an album from 2021!" is what my first reaction was. Unfortunately this quickly turned to sadness since there is so much good music these days, and they chose this out of all the good music they could've picked. I also read that she was inspired by Cardi B, which is not a good thing. I think conceptually the album feels quite cohesive. Unfortunately, the theme is not really something that excites me that much. Some of the songs are ok, but it's just not really my jam honestly, so it's hard to give it proper credit. It's not something I really enjoyed though, and I won't go back to it, so a 2 feels right for me.

Honestly, it’s gunna be another no from me dawg. I guess Ho Tales is the vibe they were going for with this title, but making fancy or somehow less crass? Girlfriend looks cute in her outfit on the cover, but this music does nothing for me. Not the worst, but a far far cry from the best, that’s for sure.

Het mag empowering zijn, maar dit vind ik precies wat te veel 'in the face'

The songs were pretty good and easy to listen to. Rating 2.5

Really average, honestly. Not sure why it’s on the list!

Music is alright lyrics arent

I don't hate it

It doesn’t appeal very much to me. All of my favorite rap and R&B albums have less repetitive or more complex instrumentation. And vocally, it sounds very on trend…like not very unique in a sea of similar artists.

Hell yeah sister, fight the patriarchy! Anyway I’ll probably never listen to this again. 2

Enjoyed for the most part, the skits seemed pointless

That album title is just awful. The music was actually not too bad and it went by pretty quickly. It's probably like a 2.5 to 3 BUT this album seriously has no business being on this list. It's far too new and it doesn't exactly feel like an instant classic. I have no idea why this is here.

Kinda overrated. While I support the cause, the production sucks and the delivery boring. This is not even close to Miseducation.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this, as I think lyrically I understand the album in concept, but a lot of it comes off as artificial more than anything, and it is hard to tell what I'm supposed to be like "oh, good point" and what is a played-too-serious joke. As far as it goes musically, I think the backing tracks are okay, but they all sound like something I heard somewhere else before, and not really their own thing. This just doesn't feel like anything all that notable, and considering I'd never heard of this album before the generator, despite trying to relatively keep up with modern music tells me it'll be probably removed to make room for another album on the next version of the list.

Good for what it is. But what it is isn't a genre I can get that excited about.

Not really my cup of tea but ok in parts.

I hadn't heard of her before. A lot of the music reminds me of Lauryn Hill with more modern production (low end way out of proportion etc.) Not bad, but I'm not sure many people will remember this in 20 years. Favorite song: the other side.

minge music.

A darkness descends across the land. A young girl cries out in the street, but nobody hears her. The prickly bustle of the wind catches her off guard and she loses balance. A pregnant cancer grips her stomach and churns away at her. She drops to her knees in pain. An old man sees her anguish and walks away in the opposite direction, hoping she hasn't seen him. She has. She sees all of us. She forgives us.

Minge music

Unimpressive. 2/5

Never heard of this but I look into my crystal ball and it's going to be about black female empowerment, mental health, body positivity and do u wanna lick dis pussy ni**a. No point wondering whether it'll be r&b or not, because of course it is. I have no interest in any of what's about to come. Whaddaya know, I was right lol. 2/5, only because it was mercifully short.

I admire the premise behind this, the tenet of sexual empowerment for women and a level playing field for all. I also respect the subversion of “ooh, ooh baby “ music. But it still remains that I find “ooh, ooh baby “ music eminently dull. It’s sad and ironic that this just bored me and I’m not sure it will have a lasting legacy. I quite liked the little stories acting as punctuation. It kinda annoys me though that people believe that feelings and these female experiences have only been invented in the past 25 years. There are hundreds of years of history of struggle and fighting for empowerment and some women just did it lot better! Sorry Jazmine - I am not feeling you.

We have an LP that explores feminism, sexuality, classism, and body-shaming. As I read all the boxes this album was ticking I was hoping it might also tick the “albums I like” box. I’ll rate it politely

Some of the tracks were ok, but not my thing

Lots of wet pussys displayed lyrically, here. Well…apart from the annoying tales there are a few more than mediocre songs 2.4

Just didn't hold my attention.

Not my thing. Too mainstream and simple. But maybe I should give it another try

R&B is not my go-to style of music. I can enjoy it, but not in every case. This album is confusing. I hate the chatty bitchy interludes. Stick with music, forget all that crap. The music itself is ok. Lost One almost makes me want to hear more from her, but too many runs. For me, new albums should not be on a list like this. Period. 2/5

It's not much to appreciate now, so I have no idea how anyone can possibly believe it's going to hold up. Even so, it's too recent to even be considered for the list.

It was quite timeless, but that didn’t make it good.

It’s just an album full of mediocre R&B songs. I don’t really love her voice and a lot of the beats and lyrics sound generic to me. Very palatable radio songs though.

Not my favorite but enjoyable enough.

It was ok

I know the theme of sex is basically the point of this album, but it’s really not my favorite thing to listen to, so that’s going to lower my score. The music itself, however, is really great!

Nice Jazzy feel but didn't think much of the sentiment

It’s fine - the modern trend towards more spoken word sections and less emphasis on the beats isn’t my favorite, but some tracks here are enjoyable. More so annoyed that this crowded out other selections from what was a massive year in indie music for LPs much stronger than this one.

Not for me

Not for me

1 Okay maybe a 2

It's ok. Nice vocals and all but not really my thing. 4/10.

Sommige nummers okee, maar meeste zeikerige R&B

Eeeeeh, I don't know

Probably being harsh because this album is so recent, and I think this is a good album, not no idea why it makes the list over so many other great albums the last couple of years

I like the empowerment thing. As a 50 something male this is kinda not my thing....I also have an issue that something so recent has to be bloody special. Not sure this is. Its funky, souly and sweary...and quite short. Sorry. 2.

Dull. Mercifully short. She has a great voice, and some of the multitracking is inspired. But as a complete project…yawn.

If it was just the songs then fine, great voice but the chit chat? There is no doubt, some gurl power relevance to slamming useless blokes which may be very handy info to pass on to her younger listeners but I find it all a bit off putting.

Begs the question whether this is an album or an EP. Without the spoken word pieces I don't think you could call this an album. Despite it's relatively short length I was growing impatient with its pacing. The deluxe edition might be more of a proper album but I'm not gonna to be listening to it. The things that Spotify auto-played after this was over; Solange, Lauryn Hill, I love, 5 star level. This, not so much.

Surely pressing social commentary, but it was a bit too schmoozy R&B for my tastes.

I will say upfront that this album wasn't really my thing from a musical perspective. Most of the music didn't really resonate with me, but I found it listenable. The closing track, Girl Like Me, hit the hardest for me musically, and I wish there had been more like that on the album. What I really appreciated was Jazmine Sullivan's entire concept on this album. She crafted the album around various named female "characters", with spoken word interludes introducing each one, followed by a song that tells each woman's story more in depth. The stories are socially relevant and will continue to be, talking about all manner of feminist and social justice issues. The format had me so interested and while I didn't necessarily overly enjoy the music, I was very engaged in the stories being told.

Embarrassing

I didn't like it. I wanna ride dick too but not like that...

Nothing special

Fine RnB, the production really saves this for me. I think some of the over the top phrasings on the singing can get really exhausting over time.

Just got a cursory listen in. Not too shabby, super tight, good production. 2.5

Surprised this is on the list. I just found it bland.

It starts smooth butter but soon becomes R&B wailing. And enough with the narration!

I have a lot of questions about this album. Why is this considered an EP when other albums were of the same length? Heck, the first four Van Halen albums were about 30 minutes long. How old is the 1001 albums list? I ask this because this album came out in early 2021. I would think that albums would have to be at least in the world for at least a little bit of time before it's a "must-listen". Listening to the album I thought that Jazmine Sullivan was... adequate. The autotune was a bit overwhelming at times and I wonder what she sounds like without it. The songs were decent, many of them felt like they were cursing and using the "n"-word for the sake of it. And as I have said before, I am not a fan of spoken-word interludes. But if you're going to have them don't have as many as there are songs. I just don't why this is in the list. It just doesn't seem to be anything special.

She sings with a pleasant voice and somehow doesn't trip up with her full speed lyrics. ultra feminist content, but sensible with it. Very polished modern r&b. Probably prefer this to Beyonce although it is missing Bey's hooks. Having spent the day listening to Roxy Music's 1973 \"For Your Pleasure\" I have to say this very recent 2021 entry (surely new inclusions have to be absolutely knockout?) was not a particularly welcome return to the modern world, but could have been worse with horrible hip hop!

It’s fine. I tried.

Alright. Wanna be Beyonce, just not as good.

New albums shouldn’t be on this list. It takes time to determine if an album is worthy or just a fad. Never heard of her, never heard the album. I hate spoken interludes… The music was nice. I have no issues with any of the songs. 2/5.

I'm very split on what to say about this one. It's from last year, so it's still up in the air if this one can become a classic or if it will never be listened to by anyone again a few years from now. I find the concept and themes applause-worthy for the strong stances they take on relevant social issues. Women deserve to take their sexuality into their own hands and perhaps this album will give some women the courage they need and deserve. But on the other hand, I absolutely hate the music. It's really not for me and I had to stop the album after a couple of tracks.

Not a massive fan of this kind of music not for me

-I liked Anderson .Paak's verse on "Price Tags" -Not many interesting flows or beats

Ok… i?

R and B, not for me.

Well... not for me. But nice voice, anyway.

not for me

Do you know

I appreciate seeing an album so fresh (2021) on this list. However, I didn't appreciate the album itself. :-( Just another generic pop/hip-hop/soul.

favs: price tags rating 0.3/5

Product of a selfish, self-obsessed time. This album is gross.

RnB hiphop meh

Not really a 1001 album

I didn't care about listening to The Notorious B.I.G. talking about having sex, and I don't care for Jazmine Sullivan talking about having sex. Another one for the big list of post-2005 misses.

Dill as ditch water formulaic r’n’b shite Apparently has a message in all the wailing vocals

Got a few tracks in, fine but NFM

coñazo, odio la musica de 2021

Who the fuck is Jazmine Sullivan? 1/5 4/6/26

You have got to be kidding me.

Not for me

this list has pretty weird picks from the 10s and 20s in my experience. i’m four tracks in and there’s already too many interludes. 14 tracks. 6 interludes. christ. i like anderson .paak’s verse. he’s got a nice voice. i didn’t care much for the rest of this. it’s kinda crazy how much it drags near the end given how short this thing is.

Not good

Furchtbar. Eintöniges Gestammel!

Crotch music.

1.4 1x this wasn't great and can't imagine listening again. Driving CLT to home

It does not seem like an outstanding R&B album. It is a good listen, but nothing groundbreaking or particularly iconic that would deserve its inclusion. 6/10 [DROP]

Really not a fan of this style of music nor the lyrics

The soul parts of this album are the most listenable bits, but the rap is just phenomenally annoying. Monotone-almost-mumbling with no variety that just goes on and on. Additionally, the beats are just about as basic as you can get. The half-dozen interludes range from introspective to unintentionally hilarious, but really add nothing to the album except just enough time to get it over the half hour hump. This whole record feels half-baked. 1.0/5.0: Embarrassing

how did this make the list? there is barely enough music for an ep and what is there isnt very good

nothing special for me, themes include dick, penis and cock

I absolutely hated every second of this. I'm not the intended demographic, and I get that, but man did I really not like this one. Basically it just comes off as if the girl referenced in Kanye West's "Gold Digger" wrote an entire album about her life. I don't want to hear this many details about anyone's sex life, regardless of whether it is a female or male artist. I have to imagine that this album will be near the top of my most hated list when/if I complete the full 1089 album journey.

mall music

Very Bad

How is this on the list? It’s neither culturally or artistically important in any way- just a crappy R&B album.

I just can't....

1.5 Entirely unremarkable. Except for the "tales". I tried to use the mandated GBA+ training at work to relate and strived to understand what the people and characters are going through, and why those would be included once in an album, let alone every other song. I think I need more training...

nope. the music is just annoying noise, the song is just dull

whoever added this should have their account banned

Some songs were ok, others not so much.

# Album Name: Heaux Tales # Artist: Jazmine Sullivan # Rating: 1/5 # Comments: Not the worst thing ive heard on here. But definitely a terrible album. # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? No

I wasn't born to listen to this type of music

Just awful

Este disco me ha parecido muy común y parecido a muchos otros trabajos. No está mal, pero no será algo memorable para mí. Hay algunas canciones buenas, pero no termino de conectar con el estilo

Really bland 3/10

Didn’t listen to it so I am not the best guy to rate this

2nd time ive listened to this album this year and its just not for me

👎🏻

Not for me at all. Take the spoken word bits off this and it’s more like an EP

Album 118. Heaux Tales (https://open.spotify.com/album/5g9YhHW8tE7Tcslgxsk5u9?si=bAGjUtgaT1Csbg2Rkc_6Ww) — Jazmine Sullivan (2021) Why am I hearing about Jazmine Sullivan for the first time ever? If her album is so good and deserves to be in 1001 of the best, why is she so unknown? Because this is shit. It's literally one of the worst albums so far. Her appearance on the Arcane soundtrack "Our Love" is probably the best work of her life. And that soundtrack is not hers, she's just a featured vocalist. This album is generic crap. 1/5 No liked songs

I spend a lot of time listening to music, searching for new music, reading and watching album reviews, reviewing year end lists, etc. Admittedly, hip-hop and pop music isn’t my focus and I usually gloss over it, but still if a modern album deserves to be on this list, I’d imagine I’d have at least heard of it or of the artist behind it. Yet, I have never heard the name Jazmine Sullivan, but I guess it’s not the first time something on this list went completely under my radar. Actually listening to this album, I don’t understand why it would be included on this list either. I am all for female empowerment and have positive views on sexuality, but this just comes off as immature. The skits/interviews are annoying at best. The actual production is so simple, which I could get behind if the rapping was able to make up for it, but it isn’t even close. I didn’t enjoy any of this album at all.

This is a "girl power" album that's not aimed at me. The pop-rap thing doesn't do anything for me regardless of the message. It's just not my wheelhouse.

This is well outside my wheelhouse…

Bish, no bish. Bish bish no. Oh no

Did not finish

How is this trash on the list of the geatest albums of all time? Can't even listen to the end. Rate 1/10

ok. but this genre is just not my thing at all

Vôbec ničím ma to nezaujalo

I guess R&B, not sure. Not my type of music.

Not really, my favorite, I liked some of the commentary, but couldn’t get really into the music at all. Two stars.

What the actual hell am I listening too? This is soooooo not for me.

What is this retarded shit? DEI album selection?

I do not know how to relate to or enjoy this. Worse, it’s objectively inessential. 1.5/5

Bland music, annoying interludes

This girl seems annoying to be around in person

Some people like this type of Music, it’s probably quite good but I don’t like it.

Bad beats, bad production, bad vocals, just all round terrible.

Aikas hirveetä

Ihan saisse 💩

This is way worse than the other 2021 album.

No thank you. Take it off the list. Couldn’t think of anything else to sing about besides being horny? Waste of time

Just about anything mediocre is on this list. 0/5

I’ve had a good run of late so was probably due something crap. Maybe 1 starring this is harsh but I can’t help thinking, as the second most recent album currently on the list, how does this get the nod over, say, Mark Lanegan or Tame Impala who have zero entries? By all means insert your own baffling exclusion. I also have to wonder which album lost its place to make way for this.

1/5 When the only things you can sing about are spending money and having sex with lots of guys to then cut in takes about getting abused, you're officially a very dumb bitch. A pretty good representation of what's wrong with today's society. Stuff like this explains why so many people are so superficial and stupid. Seriously wtf is wrong with today's feminism? It was about fighting for rights and opportunities women didn't have before. Nowadays it seems that all these "feminists" care about is to sexualize everything and dump on men because they're men. They don't understand the concept of actual equality and that pisses me off. That's not the way, girls. Learn some fuckin self-respect. Would've given it a higher rating if everything would be instrumental, but it's not. Back into the trashcan with this basic bitch.

No me ha llamado demasiado la atención, aparte de que el estilo de música me gusta

Can’t think of anything redeeming about this one… in the conversation for one of the worst I’ve had in this project so fae

Already listen to

One of the lessons here is that men are sexually aggressive, as well as inattentive, while women are treated as if they are not sexual beings but at the same time they claim sex is a superpower. And a big fuck you to any man that doesn’t hustle or have money. The stories told here have absolutely no connection to my life.

Not 4 me

No, no, no, no, no way, absolutely not, no, not even once, no, no, never, no, no, no, ho, no, no, no, one millions times no.

I really really want to like this. It should've stayed in the vault a little longer. the production is just not it. but I like it nonetheless for what it stands for.

Don’t really want to review this and be negative, as it’s just not for me. Im about as far from the target audience for this as you can get. It gets millions of streams so guess it’s popular, if people like it good for them, so maybe it’s very relevant. It’s got a social message it appears, which is it’s 1 bright point for me, more power to you. But social context don’t make it music for me. On a musical level find it as bland as fuck, it just sounds like all the rest of this type of shit, lifeless hyper processed vocals that are undistinguishable from everyone else, the same simple as shit beats and rhythms, each track starts and ends at the same tempo and same key and never changes in between. I mean the dialogue track Donna’s tale had the same number of variations as the other tracks, zero. Why did songwriting devolve so so much.? As said not for me, and don’t need to hear this type of bland basic music. Well I have now heard this so won’t be wasting those 32 minutes again. 1 Star

My favorite part was when it ended.

Nicht mein Ding

What a pile of woke BS. A disgusting display of complete lack of self respect. This doesn’t empower women it degrades them. Needs a negative score.

Pure trash

Actually painful to listen to. The worst kind of R&B/soul. Awful

Genuinely repulsive. Probably the worst lyricism I've seen on the list so far.

I tried. I tried. I knew I was in trouble when I saw the genre (love older R&B, but not 2020s), title, and cover, but I thought those could all be personal feelings. I ignored that, and I tried. No. It just doesn't make sense on this list, and I shudder to think what got pushed off to make room (I'd hope it was Limp Bizkit, but it was probably Gorillaz or The Killers). I still wanted to give it at least 2 stars, but I couldn't even justify that.

"Why, why, why is this on the list?" If I add a few chords to my last line, I'll make a better song than this entire album. Every time I listen to albums like this, I secure another piece of my spot in heaven, because this can only be a damned punishment.

Not sure how this managed to get recorded let alone make the greatest album list. Terrible.

I don’t need to hear someone narrate their sex life, set to music while I’m driving around town, cooking in the kitchen, working out at the gym, or pretty much ever. This artist has a nice voice, R&B stylings are nice (but standard), rap flow is good (but not special) — the subject matter just not something I’m gonna be singing around town. This is not very interesting or creative. I’m giving it a 1 and now I’m gonna go back and downgrade that Sza album, which i gave much the same review.

Hated it.

Utter rubbish. Stopped listening 3 songs in

I was really relieved when this was over.

I really hate these hypersexualized lyrics. It doesn't really matter if it's made by a male or a female artist - It just never sat right with me.. I don't need to hear about dripping pussy (or dicks). The entire genre isn't really for me.

This fucking sucked

i hate the lyrical content in this album. maybe it’s cos i can’t relate, but i don’t think this is the kind of music for me. feels very victim mentality.

This couldn't be over with fast enough. I had to follow this up with 5 straight hours of death metal to purge it from my brain! Need a zero stars option! 0/5 #92

I am certainly not the target audience for this album, and my rating will reflect that. 1 star or F- for me.

I found it so dull, background R&B music that I kept wondering away and doing other things. I rewounded a couple of times but I honestly can't remember anything other than the fact that she kept talking about how much she likes dick.

Happy it was only half an hour

I don’t care for the talking in between each song — just not my thing.

Gear: DCA ÆON 2 Noire Artwork: 😐🔞⬛ Production: 🤷‍♂️😐👍 Music: 🍆🍑🤣 Rating: 🍌/5

I feel like I need a shower. My playlist recommendations are FUBAR'd now.

Trying to have an open mind since this is not my genre.. but I’m two songs in and want to give up. ETA: I did give up. Sorry. Can’t.

The best thing about this album is it was only 32 minutes long. Modern R&B/Hip Hop is just not my thing.

Not for me. 1/5

Initially felt a 'kids these days' review coming on but after finishing it this isn't like Frank Ocean where it does seem like there might be something there I'm not getting. This was just a bit vapid musically and fairly depressing thematically. Can't help it because I'm on my way to being an old man but in my day the sort of music that made people clutch pearls was angry and shocking. To me telling kids to think about money and sex in these terms is far more insidious and damaging. Kids these days ey. The half hour runtime was about 5 minutes work of chatting which was a relief but a pisstake if you actually like this. The Other Side was alright, best track, everything else was terrible. 1.5 but more a 1.

Totally devoid of merit. She sings as if she's utterly bored of what she's saying. Price Tags is particularly misogynistic. Really boring beats, slow tempo for all the songs. Rotten.

Thought this was pretty awful. I don't like RnB at the best of times, but this wasn't helped by the completely inane content. She clearly likes dick though. More power to her 1

This likely wasn’t in the top 1001 albums of 2021.

Cool production not for me
