Love this album, beautiful and melancholic! 4/5

Wild World. I love how it transported me to a different place that too with a wild sense of nostalgia for a life I have never lived. First official venture into Cat Stevens, and I'm sure he will forever be in my rotation. 4/5

pretty good honestly

This was a great morning listen. Very relaxing

Great memories!!

Fantastic short little pop/folky album

A pleasant album (and my first on this journey) whose earnestness is refreshing given the changes to adult contemporary music in the past 50-odd years. Very much rooted in its time and scene, which isn't a bad thing. Definitely in that 3-3.5 star range for the first half but Miles from Nowhere, On The Road To Find Out elevated it beyond that for me. Longer Boats is a standout, with fun instrumentation.

One of my favs

Easy listening- then Father and Son.. powerful!

Original. Iconic hippy voice with some cool and out there lyrics!

Smooth, folksy

I gotta say, if I'm pulling out a Cat Stevens record to listen to, 95% of the time it's going to be Teaser and the Firecat, but this album is pretty good as well.

I loved Cat Stevens early music. These weren’t necessarily among my favourites but still good to hear. 3*

Lots of childhood memories

This is probably the album I would tell most people to start with is they wanted to know about Cat Stevens. I mean, it probably has the two biggest songs of his on it. And the second one I probably wouldn't have known if it weren't for the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2" (ok, to be fair I have probably heard it before.) Most of the others have that acoustic folk-y fare, but it's done so WELL. There are a couple of clunkers, trying to be more blues-y which doesn't seem to work as well ("Hard Headed Woman", "Longer Boats"). And I would have liked the title track to have gone on longer. But the opener really connects, which is always important. "Sad For Lisa" and "But I Might Die Tonight" are ok. So all in all it's a decent effort, something I might come back to, and that relistenability for me brings it to a 3.6, which rounds up to a 4. Top tracks: "Wild World," "Where Do The Children Play?" "Father and Son"

I have a lot of respect for Cat Stevens. This album is soft and sweet and it completely captures the folk rock genre of the 60s and 70s. He really nails that breezy (sometimes upbeat) vibe in the instruments combined with somber motifs in the lyrics. But I don't know if this album really does it better than some of his contemporaries like Harry Nilsson, Simon & Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Carly Simon, Bill Withers, etc. I immediately thought it's a 3 but wasn't sure if I could go higher. That said, it gets better and better on every listen, and songs like Where Do the Children Play?, Hard Headed Woman, Sad Lisa, But I Might Die Tonight, Longer Boats, On the Road to Find Out, and Father and Son really stick on multiple listens. Wild World already stuck (I feel like it gets way more airplay than the others and I knew it intimately already). I guess that's 8 out of 11 songs that really stuck with me so maybe I need to give the album an upward nod for how infectious it is. If 3.5 stars was an option, I'd go with that.

There's a certain level of cheesiness to Cat Stevens' music - when he gets intense in his singing I often think of Jack Black singing instead, which is definitely not a good thing for a serious musician. But, under the cheesiness is some really good songwriting. I'd listen again. Favorite tracks: Wild World (great song and a classic), Sad Lisa, Into White (somewhat cheesy lyrics, but I really like the guitar part), Father and Son (very poignant - I've loved this track for years. Check out the re-recording in 2020 when he sang the father part now as a 72 year old. The video hits the heartstrings pretty hard).

A great mellow album with some up tempo stuff in there. I already had "Wild World" in my library but I added "Where Do The Children Play?" and "Father and Son" which are the other two big ones on here

Estupendas canciones en un gran album.

really good shit time passed by while listening good vocals good tunes 4.4/5

Favorite was Father and Son.

A lil more antsy than I recall but loved it all the same.

Cool album!

Aurinkoinen ja tasapainoinen levy. Erinomaista 4/5

good album! already knew a couple of tracks but was a nice experience as a whole

Other than Bowie, it’s about as my-mum-coded as an album gets.

A good album, I liked Where Do The Children Play and Wild World the most.

A very confusing time for me, thinking Cat Stephen's was an artist similar to that of Shania Twain... And also thinking they were a woman.. but also recognising a lot of songs and everyone telling me how legendary they are. Regardless, I enjoyed the album a lot, once I got over my shock!

Enjoyed this. Must rewatch harold and maude

Good album. I've been a long-time Cat Stevens fan with plenty of fond memories listening to "Wild World" and others off of a Greatest Hits CD on family road trips. I don't think I've ever actually sat and listened to Tea for the Tillerman as an album, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. "Father & Son" is one of the all-time great songs; it's simply beautiful. Overall, this didn't move my opinion one way or another. I'm a Cat Stevens fan and will listen to any album of his and enjoy it. ****

Things were easier when he was just a cat.

💙 4.5

Accidentally listened to the rework but I still enjoyed it!

A classic that definitely makes me think of my teenage years. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

light 8 It had some beautiful moments, and the vibe of the album is just right for me. No negatives, but I am personally not the biggest fan of folk music so I can't rate this any higher or I would be lying to myself.

A good album for Cat. This is long before he converted to Islam, his mother's religion, and stopped making secular music.

This is a great Cat Stevens album. His lyrics are fantastic, the instruments are on point. There's nothing I would really change here.

- good spring/summer album - fav song: wild world - 4/5 stars

On relisten, Stevens’ folk classic still holds up as a… folk classic. You simply cannot go wrong with a collection of short folk songs with a soothing voice at the helm.

I enjoyed this album. It has a lot of interesting themes of growing up and going through life’s challenges. It definitely wasn’t something that I would usually listen to but Cat Steven’s voice is so soothing and powerful throughout the entire album. For me the highlight of the album is “Sad Lisa”. The first time I heard it I almost cried, it’s such a beautiful and touching song with a wonderful instrumentation.

Nice vibe, some fun lyrics (I'm looking at you, "Into White"), and a delightfully whimsical cover image. What's not to love?

This album had quite some songs I knew, but didnt know were from him. Wild world, father and son. Really like this album and its songs

A very sweet and endearing listen throughout. Stevens' voice is so sincere and soothing to listen to, and there's an almost nostalgic feel to this record's sound in general. "Father and Son" is simple yet beautiful track in particular. "I am old, but I'm happy I was once like you are now And I know that it's not easy"

Cat is so much more than his hippie radio hits. His melodic lines are gorgeous, and his introspective lyrics are relatable. This isn't my favorite album of his, but it's an easy listen regardless.

Kat Seaton more like. Good album. Really immaculate vibes here - and the production is really fantastic on this. Late 60s and early 70s are such a golden era for singer-songwriter music and Stevens' is no exception in making his mark. His voice is gentle when it needs to be but possesses this strong earthy power at times too. Best Song: Father And Son Worst Song: Longer Boats Score: 8/10

This is such a nice and peaceful album. I hadn't listened to it before but knew Wild World. The songs are relaxing, the theme is enjoyable and I really like the album cover. His voice is a little hard for me to get used to, but it definitely isn't unpleasant. I added Wild World, Miles From Nowhere, Longer Boats, On The Road To Find Out, and Father and Son to my liked songs playlist. 8/10

Very nice folk pop record with excellent songwriting and storytelling by Cat Stevens. My favorite songs are Sad Lisa, Into White and But I Might Die Tonight (which was the opening theme of the great movie 'Deep End' for which a more psychedelic rock version of the song was recorded).

I thought it would be a standard album of a single known song and that's it. My mistake. It's a great folk piece.

Akin to Leonard Cohen, Cat Stevens made slacker music with woozy guitar but surprisingly versatile vocals. His music wasn't particularly exciting, but "Tea for the Tillerman" was a perfectly fine folk album. Truth be told, I'm more-so a fan of quick, upbeat music like The Smiths, but I can imagine enjoying Cat Stevens if I'm in the right mood. Favourite songs are "Where Do The Children Play?" and "Sad Lisa." The sudden change of dynamics in "Where Do The Children Play?" was a pleasant surprise.

Listened to the 2020 Mix in the Super Deluxe version and enjoyed it better on headphones. A great poetic album, classic.. Father And Son is my fav song all the record.

This album was a pleasant way to end the week. Mild and mellow, beautifully written and performed songs that don't overstay their welcome.

You're breaking my heart, Cat.

I don’t like how much I enjoyed this album. 3.5/5

This brings me back! Love this

The album that broke him in America. Solid folky stuff in his unique voice.

It is a very enjoyable album, I love the layering of his own vocals. The writing, particularly on Father and Son, is very evocative.

I enjoyed this album

Folk rock lento de Cat Stevens... Dos megahits. Un 4.

Some really classic songs on this album.

Enjoyable nostalgia trip.

- where do the children play: very early 70s, I like the swap between single and double tracked vocals for verse and chorus. - hard headed woman: classic ballad, I love the strings, the minor changes as well. - wild world: ok, i didn’t think I’d heard any Cat Stevens but I’ve heard this - screamer. - sad lisa: it’s a good follower album wise from wild world - it’s very broken in its parts and sparse. The violin part is spot on. - miles from nowhere: I like the tempo change in between verse and chorus, I like how it ramps up in intensity as well. - but I might die tonight: the double bass is sick and I love the stabs and the higher bvs as well - longer boats: the acapella start is cool and the acoustic guitar panned right then stereo super attacky then filling out when main box come in - super cool. It feels warm and simple - the drum fill coming in and the beat In general towards the end feels a bit off - into white: I love the run on the lyric into white, and the violin. - on the road to find out: I like the escalation of the backing vocals and the overall accompaniment towards the choruses - I like how it melts away to give space to the guitar as well - father & son: i feel like I’ve listened to this before, there’s a reminiscent feel about it. I think the story in the lyrics is the strongest in this song. - tea for the tillerman: cool way to end an album Overall notes I thought some of the songs were stronger than others - wild world and father & son stood out. It really reminded me of steely dan’s first album, and I love the storytelling era from that time period. Overall rating 7.8 / 10 - it’s not my favourite style of music but the songwriting is brilliant and a lot of the arrangement really impressed me.

Solid Cat Stevens album

Great album, lay back and let it go. It has a twinge of the era it was made in, but as much as many others. It’s a classic album for a reason.

Pretty great

Sweet lil jams. Father and Son always hits deep. “Take your time, think a lot. Think of everything you’ve got. For you’ll still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.”

Great acoustic folk album. "Wild world", and "father and son" are classics tracks off this album. Great music overall.

This may be a 5/5 but I have to spend more time with the songs I don't know. This album is like sinking into a warm bean bag chair. Whereas when I was much younger I'd write Stevens off as "effective songwriter but often cheesy", now this album is landing just right. One can criticize all they want, but it IS a wild world, dammit. And it IS rather difficult to get by just upon a smile. The man has a point.

Introspective folk pop. It's remarkable how expressive you can be with so little. The first track really showcases this in the beginning, and then opens up with more energy later. Steven's voice is at the perfect soft-but-forceful level most of the time, and then occasionally he belts out with strong vocals. Who needs drums when you can keep the beat with a guitar? Strings and piano come in sometimes as well, all the accentuate Steven. Lovely lovely album. Will need to revisit, I'm sure I'll appreciate it even more. 4/5

Fun album with a recognizable song or two.

Beautiful songwriting

This is a lovely album. Not all the tracks are amazing, but a lot of them are.

Nice sound. I think it was exactly what i was in the mood for

Nice chill record. Great melodies - Wild World is a classic. Father and Son is beautiful. This is the first time I ever sat down and listened to Cat Stevens. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

hij s wel schattig wild world included

great little singer/songwriter album, plus it has father and son which is an all timer song. probably deserves a relisten because i didn't listen to the lyrics as much as i should've. 7/10 fav tracks: tea for the tillerman, father and son, into white

A wonderful group of songs. Beautifully written and performed. The hits and the other songs alike. Truly a classic acoustic listen, great for easy mornings and chill times.

I don't know that I've ever listened to this album in it's entirety before, but I associate several of these songs strongly with my freshman year at Cornell. That's when I was introduced to Cat Steven's Greatest Hits. The song "Father and Son" is a favorite of mine that I had forgotten about. I don't know if I've listened to it as a father. I used to listen to it on repeat though. It's my favorite song on the album.

This was a really nice album. I could totally listen to this any time.

Nice music to vibe to. Road trip music.

Quality Cat Stevens.

Favorite was "Father and Son"

Man. Father & Son is a great song. Hard to top that ending Father & Son > Tea for the Tillerman - great for a Sunday night.

This was very enjoyable, my favorites were “Wild World,” “Sad Lisa,” and “Longer Boats.”

i liked the songs and the sound but I didn’t like the singers voice

Beautiful.

really liked tea for the tillerman and wild world. pretty good album!!

Lovely music!

Great album. Doesn't get much better than Cat Stevens!

A consistently strong collection. The songwriting is excellent. The production let the songs breathe which serves it well over 50 years on.

Surprisingly excellent

Surprise for me. Really enjoyed most all these songs. And, like his sound.

Decent but not really my thing. Fun to listen to though and indicative of musical genius.

One of the few singers that I actually enjoy for their own sake - good old Cat. He seems to take songs that would have otherwise been a bit mid and elevate them. I'm a little more of a fan of his next album Teaser & The Firecat as I think the songs are stronger and a little more diverse there but this is still a great joyous throwback that also provides almost a wistful vibe throughout. An album I think I can always listen to. Highlight: "On The Road to Find Out" 7/10 4 stars

Really liked it, more of a 4.5 stars if not even a 5!

Cozy AF. If I didn't love this album, I'd think his voice was goofy and his guitar was jangly.

Mostly easy to listen to

Have always enjoyed Cat Stevens, so no surprise that I enjoyed this album... Sad to say that I've never really listened to any of his albums start-to-finish - other than a Cat Compilation album that I got from The Columbia House Record "13 Albums For A Penny" deal that I had back in the day... Would have to listen to some of his other albums to get a sense as to where this one ranks... Obviously "Wild World" is the track from this album that everyone knows, but I thought the album was extremely well-done from top-to-bottom, as there are no throw away songs on it - it's just that some are stronger than others, and I liked the variation throughout (i.e. some guitar driven, some piano driven...). In addition to "Wild World" I really thought highly of "Sad Lisa" & "Miles From Nowhere", and the run at the end of the album of "Into White", "On The Road To Find Out", and "Father And Son" were all exceptional... Once again, I wish I could give partial scores like 3.50 or 3.75, but alas, I can't... Probably would have given this a 3.75, because I'm quite sure it's a 4 - which I just don't give out willy-nilly - but then again, I thoroughly enjoyed just about half the songs on the album - so I guess that means I'm gonna have to go with the higher rating, so a 4 it is...

Americana/folk type vibe. Easy listening and soft spoken. Great for the right vibe

Cat Steven as you know how, Hits a'plenty - beautiful music and voice.

Really enjoyed the album. It was calm and peaceful, loved the music and enjoyed the lyrics/message. 4/5!

Pedazo de músico

I liked this

Lost my review for this one, but it's really good. Gentle and sweet, but with a lot of energy 4/5

Good stuff. As good as Teaser and the Firecat. There's one song in the middle which isn't as good, about light ships or long ships or something like that. Either way, an unnecessary addition to an otherwise great album.

Longer Boats is a great song that I wasn't familiar with. Same with On the Road to Find Out. Album also includes the classic Wild World.

Easy listening with a few very well known classics.

I'm my early teens I didn't find this type of soft acoustic melody driven music very appealing. However l, every time you heard this voice it had something that pulled you in. Not the greatest voice by any means, but kind of haunting. You truly believe the singer owns the song and lyrics.

Pretty good. Calming but passionate music

Good middle school memories

Good piano jams Better than expected

a few excellent songs in here, Wild World especially stands out. but for every fun or emotional song there's another equally dull one that is forgettable

Took me back to high scy

slow but somewhat interesting

Rather pleasant, if a little goddy

Great folk album.

Beautifully lyrical songwriting- some profound. Bit of an ambivalent person to me but you can't deny his talent so I forgive. Glad to see so many others feel the same.

Really solid album.

Mammas favorit och måste erkänna att även jag är svag för katten 😻

Beautiful. I’m happy I got to listen to this today.

Stevens at his best.

Perfectly captures Cat Stevens style. “Wild World” is a classic. “Father and Son” is beautiful. For one of my birthdays Sam gave me the vinyl version of this album and the song always reminds me of him. ****

Great album! The back half was spectacular!

2 riktiga klassiker knyts ihop av ett gäng 3+ låtar

Tfw just watched another hilarious episode of Ricky Gervais’s “Extras”

01) Where Do The Children Play? - 8,5 02) Hard Headed Woman - 8,0 03) Wild World - 10,0 04) Sad Lisa - 8,5 05) Miles from Nowhere - 7,5 06) But I Might Die Tonight - 7,5 07) Longer Boats - 8,0 08) Into White - 7,5 09) On the Road to Find Out - 7,5 10) Father and Son - 9,0 11) Tea for the Tillerman - 6,5 TOTAL: 8,05 (81/100) It's a nice album, a solid 4 stars. It features two big hits and it seems I prefer "Wild World" over "Father and Son".

Some beautiful songs on this one, with great use of piano and strings. Relaxing vibe without getting boring

Better than average album so far

Pretty nice. It almost comes off as his best of. Father and Son is still such a beautiful tune.

Timeless and beautiful. Amazing voice and deep lyrics accompanied by the pure guitar play.

proljetno, jednostavno, ugodno, nije mi za svaki dan ali kad me pogodi ovakav mood, slusat cu ga opet!

gem lines that seem simple but hit hard There’s so much left to know, and I’m on the road to find out

Zaspao uz ovaj album

Cat/Yousif and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull have got a similar vocal quality that I just love. Great songs here too.

A folk pop classic with lyrics ranging from the profound to the questionable.

a classic!!

Lots of memorable AM gold here. I get Jim Croce and Cat Stevens mixed up to me they're the same person. This is the one that changed his name, went into hiding and refused royalties tho, right? Cool. That's punk rock.

Classic folk/singer-songwriter album. Smooth, melodic, and meaningful. Good listen.

Pretty solid 70s vibe

Simple, well-produced acoustic folk tracks with thoughtful lyrics, a raunchy emotional voice, and sophisticated (yet simple) melodies. Many tracks like "On the Road to Find Out" embody the spirit of the catchy pop folk rock of Simon & Garfunkel. A short record, with 2 strong hits (that have been cemented in music canon), a powerful opener and satisfying closer, and something to note of each track. It could be stronger, and could do with less repetition, but it's a very fine folk record for its time, and I don't see any obvious tracks to cut. The middle ones are weaker but still have value.

Gentle piece of work with a couple of classic songs on it. Drifted by quite nicely.

Nice & easy

The only Cat Stevens album you need.

Listened to it while sitting in bed with my wife at the dusk of Christmas Eve 2023 - and she told me story how the became familiar with ‚Father and son‘

fav song: wild world

Back when singer/songwriters wrote acoustic songs with something to say, and have people sing along with! And it also has Wild World!

very good. some masterpieces here!

Cat Stevens' voice may not reach the heights of his contemporaries but his songwriting really makes up for it, and this is probably the most accessible you can get for Yusuf, though a little dated sounding in places. The Beatles, the blues and even Dylan and Paul Simon influences feel obvious but not in a bad way. Wild World has an all timer chorus. Miles From Nowhere has infectious energy. Longer Boats could be a CSNY track. Father and Son is a classic. High 4

I think Wild World and Father and Son get this a lot a light 4. It’s kind of a soft album but good for a particular vibe. Probably worth a closer listen.

I’m not a big fan of acoustic soft rock but this is a very good album. Wild World, Where Do the Children Play and Father and Son are classics. Sad Lisa sounds like Peter Gabriel era Genesis to me. Miles From Nowhere reminded me of Burn Down the Mission or Take me to the Pilot from Elton John.

Easy listening singer-songwriter album. Favorite Tracks: Wild World, Longer Boats, Father And Son

A great one to start the list with- very solid folk rock with a couple songs that still pop up in popular media with some regularity.

Three five star songs and the rest are 3 or 4

Absolute bangers

Goed nice album met chille bangers 4/5

Happened to listen to this while on vacation based on a friend’s recommendation. Very calm and reflective record.

Know this one super well too. Solid album. Good rainy day, sad boy album. I’d give it 5 stars but Sad Lisa makes me take it down a notch.

Wat een fijn album, zeg. Wordt er rustig van.

Thoughts before listening: I'm sure I'll know a lot of songs on this album but I've never listened before. I really like the hits, so I'm sure the album will be great. Review: Yeah, this was very good. I expected a folky album and there is that aspect to the sound, but there's definitely more of a pop rock production to these songs. Wild World and Father & Son are great and I also really enjoyed Sad Lisa.

Grande album, bei virtuosismi con la chitarra. Due pezzi speciali, talvolta un po' di monotonia a livello di atmosfera.

Overall a very good album, with some of Cat Stevens best songs (Wild World, Father and Son, Tea for the Tillerman). Other tracks fall down for being over sentimental or their hippy-dippy lyrics. But Miles from Nowhere stands out as a more ambitious and sophisticated number. It gets 4* on the basis of the title track

A great, nostalgic album for me.

love this album

Really liked it :) I like that he wrote a song about longer boats (and I'm sure it has a greater significance than I'm giving it)

Dang, before now I didn’t realize what an emotional connection I have to Wild World. Maybe another song to add to my funeral playlist (aka “STINK-BOY JAMZZZ VOL 69”). Or maybe not.

Enjoyable acoustic jams. I liked when Cat would up the intensity and wished he did it more. 4/5

Paul Simon/Fleetwood Mac/Peter Gabriel vibes, lige noget for mig! Har aldrig hørt et Cat Stevens album før, positivt overrasket!

Meget meget behagelig plade. The Flaming Lips has stjålet hele melodien til Fight Test fra Father and Son og det gør lidt ondt på mig for jeg kan virkelig godt lide Fight Test.

Oh, looks like I'll have a good cry today. Important people in my life have this record and they've all put it on at one critical point in time or another. I get all the feels when I hear it.

Very good! Healing music ❤️‍🩹

I have always enjoyed putting cat/Yusuf on shuffle but I've never listened to an album of his. An enjoyable listen with some big hits, but some of the songs were more background music than attention grabbing

Really love this album! Really a 4.5 but going for a 4 as a couple of the songs are not quite “just right”

There’s some tired cliché about the cracks of a broken heart helping to let the light in, and without getting too sappy, I’ll say that the sips of this tea helped to illuminate the room and restore my fractured spirits.

Beautiful album, with Some really special moments.

Great songwriting, really enjoyable and chill to listen to.

4/5 - Wonderful album, his voice can't help but to bring depth and soul to the lyrics which are consistently beautiful and thought provoking.

Great album, my only complaint is probably that a lot of songs felt like they were ending just as I was starting to really enjoy them. A lot of these songs have been covered many times and there are 1/2 where I prefer the cover but the original is still good. Johnny Cash's cover of father and son is my favorite cover of a song on this album. Highlights from this record include wild world, father and son and where do the children play.

Very nice album with focus on acoustic guitars and piano. Great vocals!

Diggin' this. Favorite track: Sad Lisa.

Great songwriter and a very enjoyable album. Just doubt it would make my top 1001.

Vá, held ég hafi fundið lagið þeirra Hjartar og Ólafar nr. 2 á þessari plötu :)

Great lyricist

Definitely an album of the 70s. One of the best acoustic guitar tones there is. Warm and makes you feel like you are inside the guitar. Acoustic tracks are great pensive musings on life. At times they get into the eye-rolling lyrics, not Dylan-level. Lush strings to back the sound add to the feel and depth of the album. Longer Boats is TERRIBLE. Pastiche of the worst kind. But overall not a bad artistic statement.

Cat Stevens always feels incredibly intimate in both sound and melody, but the themes of the lyrics have universal relevance. At times it becomes just a bit too much with the full orchestration, but when you have song material like 'Wild World' and 'Father and Son' it's difficult to really mess up.

Hauntingly beautiful record from Cat Stevens displaying grande emotions, storytelling that feels as contemporary today as during its release and all of that is topped with the undeniably strong vocal that is Stevens’. The greatest tracks are among the best of the entire genre. And the few songs that are not as good as those are never actually bad. It’s just hard being on the same album as “Wild World” and “Father And Son”.

4/5 Very good. Solid

Father and Son is a great song, quality album

Dope stuff. Cat seems to be trying to use the full range of a human voice; falsetto, gravelly, etc. Real good production as well.

This is an album that defined a generation. I liked the remaster better.

A very solid album

it was pretty cool

Warm. Personal. Organic.

High density of his better-known songs: five that I know very well. If I ever get back to playing guitar I’m sure I will play these again, he’s gold for guitar and voice.

Folk melancholic album. Loved “Father and Son” and “Wild World”

I was surprised. I knew the name but but not the music will listen again very Bowie? Maybe it is the era. I knew wild world and father and son but didn't know it was him. I don't know if I can look back at this but I'll leave the note ted lasso...

"Where Do The Children Play?" and "Hard Headed Woman" are good. Learned that "Wild World" and "Father And Son" are from this album.

Where Do The Children Play?: 5/5 Although there's not a big change in melody, it feels almost nostalgic listening to this. The build up at the end wraps up the song perfectly and I think it's a great intro song to the album. Hard Headed Woman: 4/5 Love the strings and the change up in tone halfway through. Not the biggest fan of the ending but still overall pretty good. Wild World: 5/5 Hey I know this song. Idk where from but oh well. (Edit: I looked it up and apparently it's from Skins UK Series 1? Also some lawyer/cop show maybe?) Sad Lisa: 3/5 Liked the violin but overall kinda meh Miles From Nowhere: 3/5 A little more chaotic sounding that I'd prefer but still okay But I Might Die Tonight: 4/5 Actually really enjoyed it, but it was super short unfortunately Longer Boats: 4/5 Very chill, calm, and catchy. Into White: 4/5 I'm usually not into very slow repetitive songs but the instrumental in this one got to me. On the Road to Find Out: 3/5 Kind of just decent compared to the other songs on the album Father and Son: 5/5 Very emotional, make-a-me cry ;( Tea For The Tillerman: 4/5 Perfectly rounds out the album, in reference to the first track, but could be a bit longer to tie all the themes throughout the album together. So I would usually put something funny but I really enjoyed this album. Sowwy

Where Do The Children Play? - I Don't Know Stop Asking. Anyway. Omg and I said "HEYEYEYEYEYEY What's going on?!" This is the goat in Hoodwinked that can only sing. wait. is this a sad song. (3/5) Hard Headed Woman - yes we love women (5/5 women) Wild World - i feel like i've heard this before. (1/5 because I got so fucking side tracked I had to stop everything) Sad Lisa - this song is a jojo reference. lisa lisa. someone tell little caesar's about this song. (2/5) Miles from Nowhere - PIANO (4/5) But I Might Die Tonight - this is the part of the musical movie that you are watching where they all do drugs and have collective fun high and float around and stuff. (4/5 that was fun) Longer Boats - longer boats are coming to wheat us. I also want no god on my lawn. What is this hippy shit >:^[o> (<- that's me shouting.) damn that mother fucker hit that bass LOW. (5/5 what am I listening to)(this is what church music sounds like) Into White - this isn't my beautiful house. this isn't my beautiful wife. a spider doing what where?? (2/5 keep your spiders away from me. freak) On The Road To Find Out - I mean this as a compliment, i really feel like this is something i would have listened to with my great grandfather. (4/5 nostalgia) Father And Son - i knew there was something us with this album and artist. this is some hippy stuff. this guy is a humanitarian. this is a song about not being able to come out to your dad (I'm making shit up but I'd believe it)(2/5 i also have father issues) Tea For The Tillerman - It's the last song get out. that was so fast holy shit. it's giving Randy Newman. anyway (1/5 drive-by) Okay, up until now I have given each album I have not been a big fan of a 3/5 if it meets certain unknown personal criteria. This album is no where close to the kind of music I would sit and listen to actively; because of the nostalgia this brings to a corner of my brain I don't think actually exists. A 4/5 for gaslighting me into feeling nostalgia for something that never happened.

Not my normal type, but if you listen to the lyrics you get so into the songs. Its so meaningful and gets catchy after a listen or two.

cat stevens and yusuf are legends fr

So far they have a nice tune, oddly the songs get really high and up beat at the end half kinda getting repetitive (I like a consistent flow for the most part), it's emotional/good imagery, oddly giving me "I can fix her" vibes from the first fee songs, Miles for no where is nice on first listen, Father And Son 😖😭 is nice and emotional so real, My top song on this album

Now this was good. Nice, gentle floating lyrics, amazing acoustic guitars and just upbeat all around.

Calm, meditative folk songs with occasional bursts of rhythm. Only a few songs stick out but a really nice listen all in all. Best song: Father and Son

Lovely little folk album but a couple of duds (especially Longer Boats which is fucking SHIT)

This record holds a special place for me. Father and Son reminds me of my dad. One of probably many songs that will instantly bring a tear to my eyes. The lyrics are great throughout this record. The music, although, leans to the simplicity side, it pairs and complements the stories Cat Steven’s is telling.

A lovely album with a number of known songs and a few new ones I quite like.

Classic

Banger

Chill music to do spreadsheets to

beautiful songs!

Better than I thought it would be. I really enjoyed the vibe of the tunes and content of his lyrics. Cat Steven’s seems like a good guy and I’m interested to hear more.

A classic album that I used to listen to quite a bit on vinyl. Still doesn't get old on repeat listens. Imagine what other greats albums he could have produced if he didn't turn away from mainstream music for 30+ years. Highlights: Where do the children play? Wild World Miles From Nowhere

Some great songs on this album but not quite enough for a 5 star rating.

father and son is one of the most sobbable songs i've heard in a while

Wild world

Surprisingly good. Lots of enjoyable songs, overall, great time.

Really great album. Love that it doesn't overstay its welcome. Just a nice collection of songs.

Bons clássicos, grande instrumental, chill e bom no ouvidom apesar de não ser o meu estilo

so so lovely and warm, a perfect morning album for sure. thank you for the hug, cat stevens. standout- where do the children play?

One of Cat Steven's best albums. I grew up on this album, and it helped shape my worldview from a young age.

Enjoyed this. Gentle.

Lovely album. I don't know his recent stuff but every 70s album is worth a listen, there are some beautiful songs here.

Some bloat in the middle but otherwise close to perfect. Hard to not like it.

3.5 stars. Simple yet enjoyable folk rock. Steven's voice is easy very homely. Standout is "Wild World", very catchy and has been a recurring earworm over the years.

A great acoustic album by such an acclaimed artist. Really enjoyed every song on this album. Father and Son is the best song on the album by a long shot.

Gets to **** on the strength of Wild World and Father and Son. Sad Lisa also good.

So this is a beautiful record. I definitely spent a bunch of time years ago listening to this and "Buddha and the Chocolate Box". If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would. It's a bit saccharin for modern days.

Lovely stuff

Excellent, way better than i thought it could be

Every song on this album is decidedly different from all others, the lyrics are great and the music has a soothing feel over it.

Mom and Dad had this tape

Great classic folk album that reminds me of my childhood.

The first half of the Album was better but I can't deny that the album as a whole was pretty fantastic and overall very uplifting and it's just nice to listen to isn't it?

There's not a single bad song on this album and it has been a favourite of mine for a while.

yep yep yep. straight gas. fav songs: where do the children play?, wild world, into white, father and son.

A great album

This one was good. The only problem was that some of the songs sort of sounded the same.

first listen it's a nice folk album, although very short

Father and son is all timer for me.

Something about Cat Stevens' voice sooths me. Although I'm not a big fan of mellow folk, this album was enjoyable. 3.5 stars

Just what I needed to this morning. Something calming, relaxing. His voice is just so reassuring that everything's going to be ok. Great songwriter too.

Album d'été

"Tea for the Tillerman" is the fourth studio album by English singer-songwriter Cat Stevens. The album is, of course, in the folk rock category and contains many of his best known tracks including "Wild World" which brought him world-wide fame. The song themes seemed to focus on spirituality and transcendence using various relationships to convey. The album reached #8 in the US and #20 in the UK. The album opens with "Where Do the Children Play." A nice acoustic guitar melody with the music and vocals building emotionally throughout the song. As the world gets built up with skyscrapers and gas lines, where do the children play? Stephens' classic chorus highlight his big one "Wild World." Great emotional vocal delivery. The Spanish-influenced guitar chord sequences. His words to a parting lover who wants to go out on her own. Piano start and strings add to "Sad Lisa." A sad song about a girl dealing with emotional issues. "Longer Boats" has vocal harmonization. Acoustic guitar and clapping hands. It was inspired by the first men on the moon and UFO speculation and to look closer at the beautiful things around earth. A start/stop acoustic guitar opens his other big song "Father and Son." His deeper voice describes an exchange between a father and son who wants to break away to start a new life. The album ends with the very short "Tea for the Tillerman." Just a piano and gospel backing vocals. At the day's end, there's still spirituality left. It's hard not to like this to some extent and I did. Two iconic songs. Emotional vocals. Lyrics with imagery and probably to some dual meanings. Mostly simple acoustic guitar music accentuated with piano and strings at times. Lots to like here.

I've never intentionally listened to Cat Stevens yet every song is somehow etched 8n my memory

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Wild World (3) 2 - Father and Son (10) 3 - Where Do The Children Play? (1)

Gentle folk rock. Am sure everyone knows "Wild World" but some other beautiful tracks here in a similar vein.

I could not stop hearing Jack Black in the hook of “Where do the Children Play?”. Quite entertaining that one was, although I was waiting and expecting more to be added to the song as far as instrumentals go. Cat Stevens added to it with his voice on that one instead I guess. With the rest of the songs however, I really enjoyed the music and composition. It’s a particular vibe given the singer/lyric portion

The songwriting here is solid. Absolute classics all across the board and honestly there’s a reason he’s a legend. His voice is so subtle and well mixed and there’s an odd mix of folksy sensibilities and pop writing melding together.

#19: I've been looking forward to this one. Such clean guitar acoustics and soulful lyrics. Seriously thought it would be higher on the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums list (205) though. Best song : Father And Son.

Really good

This was a really great folk rock album. I had first heard of it because one of my dad's favorite songs is Father and Son. I then re-heard it in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack and since then I have always had this as an album that I was going to listen to but never got to. I finally got to it because it was suggested to me here and it lived up to my expectations. I think this album was amazing. Consistent throughout with a few standouts like "Sad Lisa", and of course "Father And Son". I don't really see any flaws in this album except for the fact that Cat has one of those singing voices that I like but I could see getting annoying if I heard it a ton. Either way this was a great album that I definitely would recommend to anyone who likes folk music or folk rock. 9.5/10

yusuf brings the classics and doesnt let down. loving music and caring chords. a great lyricist and poignant. go get em tigah.

This felt comforting.

This is the most egregious 60s hippy dippy bullshit and I am totally here for it

Not my cup of tea but quite good

I enjoyed it overall. Not what I’d usually listen to but it was a very endearing listen on a Saturday morning.

Never really heard any of his songs other than cats in the cradle and wild world Cool album, I like his singing. The E string on the upright is super growly Favorite songs: Wild world On the road to find out Father and son Might die tonight Where the children play

Tough to rate. not really my style of music typically but I think he is objectively an incredible songwriter. Cool sounding voice, the guitars and overall sound of the record are really great which is always a big deal for me. I love the bass tone on wild world. His music has a special place in my heart bc my guitar teacher really liked him and taught me some of his songs when I was a kid. Trouble is my fav song of his.

Some absolute gems on this one

I didn’t want to like this album. I’ve always written it off as boomer junk, a guy with a few radio friendly granola songs. But actually was surprised after digging into this one that it is actually very good. Sure there are some weak snoozers like Sad Lisa and Longer Boats, but the rest of the album is very good. The singing is very emotive, which at first seemed annoying, but after a few listens I really enjoyed the dynamic aspect similar to the way one can give that effect with an acoustic instrument. Wild World is a classic break up song, and there are many others that are equally as strong.

Legendary album from a legendary songwriter.

AJ: My dad loved this album. I’ve known it since I was young. Used to think Wild World was the coolest song ever. Lol But really, one of my all time favorites… Miles From Nowhere. 🩵 It’s funny how songs change and mean more the more you grow and change. Oh, and… Father and Son. 💙 Shot to the heart every time. Even when he was physically still here. My best friend, and still managed to bang heads once in a while. Just the way it is. Cat Stevens really seemed to sing his soul from the soles of his feet. Band feels like a tribe. Spiritual force. Maybe a little to spiritual at points. For me, anyway. Love his voice. Love when he randomly decides to sing hard. Makes me smile every time. Cat: Just really beautiful music and really beautiful messages. Very much enjoyed the whole thing. Don’t think I’ve heard it all before.

What a songwriter. Gets right what so many others get wrong. Personal but not self-indulgent. Universal but not cliched. Gentle but not twee. Father and son should be slop. In a lesser pair of hands it would be. Even the little snippet of the song which is also the title track at the end is the perfect concousion to the album (as it was when it played over the end credits of The Office (UK))

Early Cat Stevens. It could be a 2 or a 5 depending on your mood and sensibilities. its slow and dated but not annoying or boring. He was a bit of a heretic even ealry on it seems. His lyrics are commentary. Father & Son. he has such a warm style, and voice, and still cuts through with a universal voice and appeal... I enjoyed somethign less jangly today.

Perfectly crafted songs, beautifully performed. Though, having just listened to the whole album for the first time in years, I’m not sure how much I have missed it.

Own this one on vinyl. Really good tunes.

This gave me some "Silvio Rodriguez" vibes, in the way that it´s tecnically a man with a guitar, making such beautiful songs. I have to admit that not all the songs were too interesting, but the ones that where, they really where heartouching. Also, I have a personally history with "Wild World" so it has been a song that has been with me, during many years. The second half of this record, is where I consider the strongest part, since the songs doesn´t need to be energetic or upbeat, but the magic is on the feeling they transmit. I would say this is now going to be one of my "comfort" albums, because of the way this thing made me feel. Pd: Father and son is one of the most beautiful songs ever made. Fav Tracks: Where do the children play?, Wild World, Longer Boats, Into White

incredible album.

Il faut passer par-dessus le petit côté paternaliste/donneur de leçon du folk de ces années-là; mais mélodiquement parlant, et du côté de la voix, c’est impeccable

A great album well worth a listen

I can tell this is really great, and I enjoyed it. It's not my thing, but I can tell it's full of excellent musicianship, and with a harder edge than I thought.

I mean you can't really go wrong with this

Great folk rock by Yusuf. His most well known songs are on this album.

Wild World and Father and Son are such great songs.

Pretty relaxing and tells some good stories in the lyrics, not my main genre but a fun listen.

Nice album to wake up and have a cup of coffee with

Nice album!

More fun than expected for most of the album

Great folk album!

Great all the way through.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would...

Solid album

This album is awesome. It's triggering to me because an ex tourtured me with it, but it's undeniably good in just about every way.

I like this one.

It's always a good day on this website when I get to listen to one of these albums on vinyl. Today is one of those days, this was 29th album I bought when I started collecting. It's just a great album! "Wild World" and "Father and Son" are all time classic songs and the latter has made many a strong man cry! It is a constant debate for me if this or Teaser and the Firecat are the better album, either way both are great! It's a disappointment that one isn't on the list.

Wild world is one of my all time favorite songs. 4/5 for just that. Rest of the album pretty good and listenable. Would listen again.

Really enjoyed listening to this.

An easy 4 for me. Lots of really well written songs and excellent performances. The recording of the guitars on this record really impressed me on this listen, as did the vocal echo on Miles From Nowhere. On that song in particular, I liked it on this listen much more than I remember. Def one I'll come back to.

Good album, some throw aways, but big songs stand up

Such a solid album. Really enjoyed getting back to this one. Great songs from start to finish.
