Wu-Tang Clan
5/5
Killer beats
Love the concept throughout of Wu sampling, with wu-tang swords slicing through
torture skit a great aggressive intro to each member. I'll sew up your asshole and then just feed you, and feed you, and feed you
Method Man focus song kills it, great rythym w the voice. got myself a shorty and i, got myself a 40
Unique voices
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Will this be the only one of the 1001 albums not on spotify?
Iconic voice
I don't zone in to the singer/songwriters enough, they can hit but take focus
out of the blue and into the black
Slow; nice occasionally, would be tough for modern audience
Bob Dylan
4/5
He rocks, harder than I remember. Singer songwriter vibe great for the rainy day, I really need to slow down and listen to lyrics to appreciate. Every verse has some lyrical gems. Rolling Stone is an all-time hit for a reason. Such distinctive voice.
Cat Stevens
4/5
gem lines that seem simple but hit hard
There’s so much left to know, and I’m on the road to find out
Joni Mitchell
4/5
beautiful. voice annoyed me at first, like "there's got to be a morning after" high pitch South Park, but grew on me. Lyrics poetic, lovely storytelling.
Theme of internal conflict between freedom (man in paris) and looking for love/connection. The confidence in her sexiness exudes.
Twisted final track "my analyst told me"- therapist must listen
We love our lovin'
But not like we love our freedom
Alanis Morissette
3/5
Another iconic voice, but this one feels jagged to me. Inspired by Joni Mitchell?, and sometimes it’s catchy, but overall I find it shrill. Hand in my pocket is still a hit, makes you wonder what your other hand would be doing? And that’s different in any given moment; the same hand will throw a middle finger and a peace sign and a high five and just be smoking that cigarette.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Blues rock, bangers. Mix of lovely soft, with some straight in your face rock. The heart of the zeppelin iconic sounds.
Queen
4/5
Rah, shows the potential. Just kids playing around, finding their sound and someways more goofy but also more straightforward than later queen albums. Killer queen still smashes, Freddy’s vocals are starting to peek out, but he hasn’t really found his full voice, and the mix keeps things more balanced/guitar rock focused than later queen, which is more Freddy focused, and then listen to the next album which has somebody to love which still gives me tingles, and then General is getting a bit more opera-ish already. You see the potential here.
Massive Attack
3/5
Heavy sound but softer than I thought. My favorite parts are w dub reggae vibes (spying glass). Heat miser closer encapsulates the sound.
Adam & The Ants
4/5
Interesting vocal mixes. Some fun bouncy rock tracks, very British in the tone and lyrics. Jolly Rodger lil pirate vibe, boding heavy guitar tone. This band would be fun live. Never heard of them.
Elton John
3/5
Nice tunes, but don’t get the hype as one of the greatest. From the movie knowing his process of getting lyrics from his partner and then putting music to it, cool to think of these as coming out of that process. I like song without a name
Pearl Jam
2/5
It’s a vibe, listened on a rainy day drive, but blends together and sounds like one big song, got boring. I did a grunge workout playlist the prior day, that I enjoyed more than this particular experience. Closing song Release stood out
Elliott Smith
2/5
It’s a vibe, very soft for me but beautiful tunes, feels longing. Gets a bit boring/repetitive. Some nice vocal mixes. Lucked out matching the rainy day vibes.
Long way to go, and getting further away
Why should you want any other
When you’re a world within a world?
50 Cent
4/5
Gangster, rap, hot beats, Dray works magic and 50 has dynamic voice and flow. One of my favorite of this era of rap, we’re track still had a van sounds but not many changes in a given song. In da club still a banger. Hard to objectively judge any of my high school era albums that I had on rotation, but I’m still digging this..
Deep Purple
2/5
Rythym guitar rock, nice and upbeat and I rolled with it but didn’t do anything special for me.
Louis Prima
3/5
Great Voice, first track I’m so lonely was a banger, just a good swing and jazzy vibe
Crosby, Stills & Nash
4/5
Lovely. Vocal harmonies are epic. Many more hits that I knew than I expected.
Robert Wyatt
4/5
Surprise fun, never heard of it. Strange voice and beats.
Gang Starr
4/5
Solid rap on every front, beats lyrics flow. Felt like the best schoolyard rapper with battle punch lines got top-notch, mellow beats. The name means master mind. feels a bit hypnotic which can make it hard to follow the lyrics.
Jeru The Damaja
3/5
Solid, East Coast, vibe, rap, similar to Gang Starr, mixed with Wu-Tang, good lines and vibe but didn’t do anything special for me.
Cool track you can’t stop the prophet where he’s going against his enemy, ignorance
The bichez
intro: Life is the result of the struggle between dynamic opposites, form and chaos, … and all the variations of yin yang, things always balance out
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
4/5
I’ve heard the hits, but this album really rocks that vibe, distinctive, singer voice with a great electronic/rock mixture, had me grooving.
Supergrass
2/5
It’s fast, but I didn’t like it very much except a few of the final songs like the couch one which had a good vibe. two because I didn’t actively dislike it, just didn’t like it. It’s drummer gets a serious work out playing this live.
Cypress Hill
2/5
Mellow, funky, beat, mediocre wordplay, a good vibe, but I don’t think I would’ve put it on this list. Then I got pulled over and given a ticket put on pigs, right after, felt satisfying.
5/5
Hits throughout, moves your heart and stimulates the ears/mind, this one’s special. My favorite so far.
Thelonious Monk
4/5
Jazz vibin all day. Blends together and fades into the background, but sets a fl mellow mood
David Bowie
4/5
Creative, groovy. The title track Aladdin sane I really dug and had never heard. Very Bowie.
Rage Against The Machine
5/5
Fire. Gets me pumped and went hard in the gym. Righteous political vibes, makes you feel like a young revolutionary.
SZA
4/5
Vibe. of tempo, sweet voice, and interesting beats. Feels very modern 2024, this was ahead of its time in 2017. Sexy
Kings of Leon
3/5
Unique voice, interesting to hear earlier side of this band that I really enjoy later popular albums, mix of harder rock moments and chill country-ish vibes, wanna drink w them
Ray Price
2/5
Great voice, chill country vibes, feels a bit repetitive. Dig Night Life and Lonely Street.
The White Stripes
4/5
Rock n roll, every song has stuck in your head/sing a long potential, the pure simple drum feels like you could play it, jack shreds
4/5
Funk jam. Keys/organ go off. City, country, city highlight jam.
Ananda Shankar
3/5
Disappointing entry for this type of music, focused on covers of western songs that didn’t really do it for me. But the original ocean locked me in, and over all love the sound. This illustrates the unspoken requirement of this list to be western music; a version of this instrument/style that wasn’t western covers would’ve been better
The Darkness
3/5
🤘 I go back-and-forth on the voice. Opening track black shuck really hits. I had a great workout to this 20th anniversary of the album this year, they’re touring it, maybe want to see them
Bauhaus
4/5
Still a dark tone, but funky and jammy. I expected dark German metal based on name and cover art, I was pleasantly surprised, really enjoyed.
Funkadelic
4/5
Snoop Dogg
4/5
Funky beats, flow, u feel cool listening to it
The Dandy Warhols
4/5
Never heard, vibing, mix of ambient and structured
Public Image Ltd.
4/5
Vibe, chaotic-artistic, from lead singer of Sex Pistols. Listened to their first album as well, Fodderstompf “we only wanted to be loved” jam
Bruce Springsteen
1/5
I was excited to dive into Bruce, but found this album boring and uninspired. He’s got a great voice, but this was the first of the albums in this project that I wanted to end much sooner
AC/DC
2/5
Gym rocked, classic guitar, just not exciting or special to me
Booker T. & The MG's
2/5
Chill but didn’t pull me in
Patti Smith
4/5
Haven’t heard anything from her and I’m very drawn in

Stevie Wonder
2/5
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
2/5
Appreciate how it was influential, nice to hear the original, not fadeaway, but overall I didn’t particularly like the sound other than to make fun of old Timey rock
The Band
3/5
Some classics, but overall slow and just didn’t do it for me, prefer the live versions of these songs
Peter Gabriel
3/5
You can blow out a candle

The Strokes
3/5
Groove rock, rythym guitar keeps the beat and the bass feels more lead/solo, I can see how it was a hit as contrast to typical rock sound
The Rolling Stones
