Ah, this takes me back to my high school dances and car rides and parties and everything. You can't understand 1980s midwest white American culture without understanding this album. After Bon Scott died, this band only did one thing, but on this first Brian Johnson album they did it perfectly. Too toxic to get 5 stars, but I was tempted though.
So much of a caricature of what Rock and Roll is, that it’s undeniable, but I have to knock a few points off for modern ears.
This first album of the Brian Johnson era is definitely one of AC/DC’s strongest. What a great intro ‘Hells Bells’ has and is, easily one of the band’s best songs. ‘Shoot to Thrill’, the title track and ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ are the other best tracks, all also absolute bangers. The lyrical content of some songs, particularly the other three tracks on side one, can be somewhat dubious/uncomfortable, however. And given that Bon Scott had drunk himself to death only five months earlier, the lyrics of ‘Have a Drink On Me’ are certainly a little eyebrow-raising.
AC/DC is probably the prototype for Big Dumb Rock done right. It's all id and big crunchy riffs that feel like blues training for a boxing match. It's a screech of a voice so distinctive that Brian Johnson has been doing his best Bon Scott impression for 46 years, from this very album onwards. It's the music you'd expect a Schoolboy like Angus has long portrayed having chugging through his veins as he leaves school to cause trouble somewhere. It is the exact sort of music that would give the world the brilliant and stupid You Shook Me All Night Long. It is not the music you'd expect from the second bestselling album of all time, but it is indeed pretty universal in its way The title track is far and away the icon here, though there are a few deserved singles. If no other rock song survived the heat death of earth, intergalactic travelers could piece together what rock and roll was just from those big chords and their corresponding blues licks. For me, I think what rock and roll wasn't (noise pollution, in this case) makes for an even better song, but there's no shortage of highlights from the moment those big bells re-introduce the band after Bon's untimely death. Now, AC/DC's particular brand of riffing does have a shelf life. It's part of why I do not listen to too much AC/DC. In this case though, it ends up being about 40 minutes and 10 tracks. And while the songs you don't already know are decidedly not as good as the ones you do, it's over all, and certainly as a full package, as consistently solid as it is consistently horny. 4*
Though this vinyl got plated many times in my adolescence, I never considered myself an AC/DC fan. I still spin it about twice a year. Some of the songs I accepted back then really drag now, Mr Crowlie for example.
This is the ultimate Dad rock album. It does not get any more stereotypical old white guy listening to his radio while organizing his tool bin than "Back in Black." This is also one of those records that is completely successful on its own terms. There are what - five - songs here that have become classic rock staples. They aren't fancy, they just rock, and they're catchy, and you can sing along to them while sounding like shit. I mean - what else do you want? That's clearly what AC/DC set out to do, and they knocked it out of the park. FOUR STARS
I guess it doesn’t get more classic than that! I’m gonna give it a 4 even though I didn’t connect with it all that much.
I've got a soft spot for AC/DC tbh, is this caveman music? yes, is it also kinda fun also yes sorry
Despite having some pretty dreadful lyrics at points, this album was still a lot of fun from front to back. Classic hard rock.
I’d generally consider AC/DC to be a touch heavier than I like when it comes to rock, but their best stuff is just phenomenal rock music. Back in Black is a terrific album, and the closest I’ve got to a 5 star album in a while. The highs are so good, but a couple of the songs don’t quite reach the same levels, and so I think it has to settle for a 4.
Is this a greatest hits album? No? Just a regular album? Wouldn't have guessed. I feel like this has every AC/DC hut except "Thunderstruck". I'm not a huge AC/DC fan but you can't argue this album isn't a banger.
Couple of classic songs on there
TOPEEEEE DE GAMA
I should listen again
Another legend. Need to listen to the actual disc though. The digital cleanness, ads, and Iron Man music videos ruin the experience.
Such a nostalgic one! Ahhhh
awww yeah. acdc. i grew up singing along with these guys in high school. the guitar solos will never not go crazy not much to say here. its good. i enjoyed reading about the story behind this album highlights: back in black
A more consistent album than Highway to Hell. Some absolute bangers, but a lot of b-rate tracks - still good, not great 3.5 - 3.7
Going into this knowing the genre, I wasn't looking forward to it. I had heard 'Back In Black' before, which I thought was a good song, but I thought the rest would fall slightly flat in comparison. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually enjoyed quite a lot of this album. There were one or two tracks that I thought could've been better, but overall, I really enjoyed the listen. The heavier style wasn't too much, and was handled with taste... really enjoyable album. Favourites: You Shook Me All Night Long Back In Black Givin the Dog a Bone Shake a Leg
Bäst är Hells Bells, Shoot to Thrill, What do you do for money honey, Back in black, You shook me all night long, Shake a leg
Classic rock album
Had me rocking around the kitchen on a Saturday morning. Angus Young’s voice can be grating, but I love it on this
I like this album well enough, but to me this, the Brian Johnson era, is the beginning of where I lose interest in the band. I like maybe 2/3s is this record. But there are some skips for me for sure. Bon Scott was far and away the better frontman. It’s good, not great. 4/5
3.5
Am I listening to these lyrics? Absolutely not, but I'm rocking out. 4.
wow
They do their thing and do it well. I usually enjoy it!
Awesome.
Love a good bit of AC/DC
4.5 for me. Would round up on a different day, maybe.
Rock n roll 4.5 vinyl
good
Straight up badass rock & roll with a heavy dose of testosterone. Brian Johnson wastes no time announcing there’s a new sheriff in town and that he’s kicking *ss and taking names. Angus puts on a clinic of iconic riffs. It’s one hook after another. The title track is an all time top 10 rock song.
Oddly enough, this one reminds me of a long cross-country drive. The road feels rather hypnotic until something outside your window jolts you back to reality, such as the enormity of the Grand Canyon or windmills backlit by the rising sun over the plains.
A little ridiculous but undeniably a cultural icon
Too pop-y for me to be higher
Introducing a brand new lead singer and bouncing back after the death of Scott, how can you not rank this album highly? It just rocks. 5 hit singles out of 10 tracks is nuts. Is it lyrically complex? No Does it matter? No! The songs are catchy, the riffs are classic. A great classic rock album that holds up well and definitely belongs on this list.
Hell yeah.
Basic but still iconic
Loud and in your face. Just a very good album High 4/5
A fun time.
This is one of the great arena rock albums of all time. Deducting some because of the nonstop puerile lyrics and Brian Johnson's voice which sounds like somebody is thrashing an elk. But this thing just slaps and the band is a merciles, well oiled machine . The 1-2 punch of the title track and "You Shook Me All Night Long" is legendary. But there are some other great songs here as well even if they start to sound the same. But, yeah, "Let Me Put My Love Into You" is about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face. 3.5 stars rounded up.
I'm always on the fence with AC/DC, a.k.a. "the junk food of hard rock". They're legends for a reason, and I can't help but compulsively bob my head up and down like an idiot every time one of their songs starts playing. It's efficient and straight to the point - no-bullshit music for cavemen, but with a groovy twist that can appeal to many. As a teen, it was the kind of stuff that made me crave heavy riffs and screamy goblins instead of pop. On the other hand... The lack of depth and complexity and the repetitive nature of their music sometimes puts me off, and I rarely have the patience to listen to a full AC/DC album. Back In Black is one of their best, but still follows the same pattern. After a couple of bangers, all songs start to sound a bit too similar, and I feel like I'm getting repeatedly hit on the head with a hammer. In the end I'll still give them a 4*, for their entire discog as much as for this particular album. To misquote another famous small angry man, "what they do isn't very subtle, but they're the fucking best at what they do". 7/10
Not all the songs are memorable but some classic 're here. The intro of Hells Bells and above all Back in Black and You shook me that feature the AC/DC Malcom Young signature : silent pauses in the riffs that just enhance the whoe thing.
Coming right after Elliott Smith… this is the exact opposite end of the spectrum. Three notes and you’re straight to the core : no indie fluff, no frills, zero poetry. Just raw, binary rhythm. It’s visceral, it grooves harder than it should. Even kids get AC/DC, there’s something instantly universal in it, as long as you don’t overthink the booze and the prostitutes. Sure, it’s not Bon Scott, but damn, it still hits. No need to think, just take the riff and smile.
Bom album, bem icônico eu acho
Pretty good \m/
Doing what they do, with a brand new lead singer.
I’m shocked by how many of the songs I liked. I would listen to this again.
When this popped up I was uninspired to listen to this as I have before. That said, this album is great. Some of the lyrics are a little corny and like most AC/DC albums it's a little repetitive but this album also has some of their best songs. The opener Hells Bells arguably their best song and I love Shoot To Thrill. It may feel a little tired to me but this is an all time rock record...
Hells Bells- Really long intro but lowkey tuff after that. Im not really a rock person but the song was okay Shoot to Thrill- I liked it as soon as it started playing. Great song overall, the guitar part was my favirote out of the whole song (Through the whole song the only part I actully listened to was the guitar and drum set) What Do You Do For Money Honey- I thought it was Iornman to begin with but so far out of the whole albulm my favorite. The lyrics and instruments are really well balanced Givin The Dog A Bone-
Couple bangers but a bit underwhelming for what I expected
Very entertaining and some of their best work is on here. 4.5/5
7/10
Overraskende godt.
good
Couldn’t help but picture Jack black singing the whole thing
Excellent song.
Cool
Maybe it’s not the same without Bon Scott, but even so, it’s still just good, unclean fun.
Muy buen album con canciones bastante iconicas
Cool, Classic metal album fav songs you shook me all night long, Back in black shoot to thrill. Overall:7/10
Rock solid groves, so many good riffs, even excluding the big hits. Hard to believe this was their first album with their new singer and it still crushes to this day. Straightforward rock was never more infectious.
A classic of the genre
This one's just a lot of fun, there's not a lot more to it than that. The lyrics aren't deep, but the guitar riffs are hard to beat. Favorite track: "Back in Black"
Couldn’t help but enjoy it
4.5?
If it weren't for the killer hits, it'd be a 3 — everything's just too samey. Although it works, I have to admit.
This is a top-notch album from an AUSTRALIAN band, with an entire album that almost feels like a greatest hits album. Yeah, it's got a repetitive riff sound, but the sound is awesome.
Surprised me how good this album actually was. I thought this was going to be a lot more annoying but was actually an extremely solid listen

So this album is definitely a classic.....if you like dad rock.....or rock & roll. Fortunately, I do, so I thoroughly enjoyed my listen. Do I have any gripes? Yes. Maybe, just maybe, they should've switched up or "played" with their sound a little more....be a little more weird lol. It sounded too good, as in, radio-esk. Overall, you will find some bangers. Favorite song? "Hells Bells" or "Shake a Leg". I am a Houstonian who listens to R&B and Rap. So, take it from me, this album is worth the listen.....maybe just be awake and ready, its nothing to put on while you're getting lucky lol.
Wow what a surprise! I normally hate Heavy Metal as a genre, with all it's posturing and hair, double denim and its fans. But recently I have given a high score and reasonable praise for Iron Maiden's debut, so am I beginning to embrace this pretentious genre with all its skulls smoking cigarettes and the like? No I'm not, I'm just yellowing with age and its bringing some tolerance to my opinions of things I would have dismissed out of hand. This was alright. That is high praise. Take it Johnson brothers and your dustbin man of a singer. Even Dusty Bin's strangled noises which emanate from somewhere in his throat weren't overly offensive. The guitar playing was on the acceptable side of hedonistic too. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the wife did. Some right banging tunes here. It is their finest effort by far. I really want to give this a 5. But if I did, I think my body would never forgive me and somehow find a way of squirting digestive juice into my skull.
Pretty mid outside of the hits but still enough for a 4. Barely.
Music with Rocks In. I do wish there was a bit more variety. All the songs are bangers, and AC/DC rocks, but that's all they do.
An LP defined by it's singles... and they are very good singles. Runs the risk of being a bit samey, so back-ending some of the good stuff is a wise move.
I'm not a big AC/DC fan but I know nearly all songs on this album. It is undeniably a classic album.
An iconic album that I’ve heard pretty much through all my life. Can’t ever go wrong with AC/DC
Balls to the wall rock. Makes my 7th grade, rock discovering soul happy. Sorry. Not sorry.
*listened before the project* Almost the first album I heard when I knew what is rock
One of the first tapes I bought. Back in Black was the first song I learned to play on guitar. Was one of my all time favorites thirty years ago. Probably doesn’t crack my top 100 now but still a classic. Also like Bon Scott AC/DC more than Brian Johnson.
overhyped? yes. good? also yes.
If you like rock music, you'll love this album. I'm not a big fan of rock and I was able to appreciate it.
This album was a favorite of mine before I had even really gotten old enough to develop a taste in music, it still slaps.
4.5
Still good.
It’s a hard rock to the core Loved.. Have a drink on me, Shake a leg and the last but not the least Back in Black Favourite track- Back in Black Date listened- March 18th 2025
No denying this is just about the most classic a classic rock album can get. I typically break the speed of sound changing the station when AC/DC comes on because it is always on and I'm so burnt out but listening to this complete album it is better than I expected. It also isn't subtle..."let me put my love into you, let me cut your cake with my knife"
One of the rare occasions where familiarity does not breed contempt. I've heard this album so many times, I think everyone knows the hits inside out, yet they endure. Just good solid riffs, songs that just hit the spot, underpinned by some ridiculous, stupid, often offensive and very catchy lyrics. Like hip-hop, AC/DC have skilfully/somehow dodged cancel culture and stand tall as the band it's cool for your kids, yer da and yer maw to all like. The pick of the bunch for the band. Also bonus point for the Kirriemuir connection. However bonus point removed for the non stop misogyny.
hard rock anthems
4/5 - My 15yo self demands this be a 5, but it does have a few weak spots, so I'm knocking it down a point. The title track and You Shook Me are classic staples, but the lead off duo of Hells Bells and Shoot to Thrill are my favorites here. Angus is one of the best riff writers of all time. Dumb, macho rock, but I love it.
Very good
Suena perfecto en su estilo
Classic
High energy hard rock album with track after track of iconic songs. A very enjoyable listen.
Holy shit. A lot of these songs are still great. Some are meh. Fun fact: the band are colloquially known as Acca Dacca in Australia.
It’s big and dumb but I do love it.
Solid guitar riffs, cool songs, big hits.
Such a pivotal album in the career of AC/DC. Some truly incredible tracks. A few of the single entendre songs were a little thin, but it was all fun. Except "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" I've never cared for that song.
I find it hard to take seriously any band that perform in fancy dress and have “trademark” moves. But I had to admit there are some bangers on here
Popular music is weird, man. This, THIS, is the best-selling album (maybe) of all time? Makes no damn sense. Not because it's bad. It's quite good if you're into this sort of thing (I am), but as hard rock records go, it ain't no noise pollution, but it ain't no Appetite for Destruction either. You don't listen to AC/DC to be moved, you listen to AC/DC because the Youngs kick monster ass as guitarists. You listen because you want to bang your head and be stupid. It's very serviceable for this purpose. The first and last tracks are pretty much perfect for this. The title track absolutely rules. "Shoot to Thrill"? Eh, pretty good, not bad at all. And there's a reason "You Shook Me" will never stop being a standard of classic rock radio. So that's the good, and it's very good. I don't know the last time I actually listened to this whole album (or any AC/DC album) and I don't know ever paid attention while doing so, but *woof* those deep tracks really bring things down. Specifically, the horny/sexist/misogynistic troika of "What Do You Do for Money Honey", "Givin the Dog a Bone", and "Let Me Put My Love Into You", the last of which may be the most disgusting song I've heard in years (derogatory), really take the shine off of this. I don't know exactly at what point sleazebag rock and roll (or hip hop, or anything) crosses a line to me and goes from fun to off-putting, but this stuff is way, way past it, bordering on pro-rape. "Have a Drink on Me" falls on the other side of the line, and it's fine, but it's not, like, a good song. Whereas, by contrast, "You Shook Me All Night Long," played out and stupid as it is, I still think of a classic. I'm usually pretty happy when AC/DC comes on the radio, and I sometimes dial up a greatest hits or live album when I'm looking for some pump-me-up shit. They're great for that. It makes sense to me that this became a huge album, but compared to the whole wide world of rock, it's still confounding to me that this rates *as* high as it does.
More familiar to my taste. It is really good
Classic album, a bit of a one trick pony but they do basic 3 chord hard rock well.
4.5 (1980, 10 tracks, 7th album, 42:11) Hard Rock (Australian) So close to a 5. . . Online there was a meme showing a woman in her mid 60’s circa 2020 atop of a man who appeared to be in his 20’s at a huge Australian stadium ACDC concert topless with her grandma tits swinging everywhere. The was an inset photo of alleged her four decades early in 1980 with much perkier tits sitting atop of a man of the approximately the same age. Allegedly the first man was her first husband, and the second man is her oldest grandson. The title was ‘Still Rockin’ after all these years!” and honestly I can’t think of anything more ACDC than this. These guy aren’t the greatest musicians but they are one of the greatest performing bands in the history of rock. Even after Bon Scott’s death they forged on famously with this album (a tribute to Scott – they were “Back” in “Black”). No one leaves an AC-DC concert disappointed (well . . . except for how much you paid.) The band's first album to feature Brian Johnson as lead singer. After the commercial breakthrough of their 1979 album Highway to Hell, AC/DC was planning to record a follow-up, but in February 1980, Scott died from alcohol poisoning after a drinking binge. The remaining members of the group considered disbanding, but ultimately chose to continue on and recruited Johnson, who had previously been the vocalist for Geordie. So why did I give the 2nd best selling album of all time a 4? It’s chocked full of hit and Angus Young cuts killer riffs, but I just don’t feel by 1980 this moved the industry forward (Van Halen and Led Zeppelin covering so much of this ground.) Plus some of sexism seems mean-spirted not good fun. I feel like their earlier work (Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap and Highway to Hell) while less commercially successful were more influential. The perennial criticism of AC/DC is all their stuff sounds the same. Primitive and their sexual imagery get repetitive and unimaginative. Plus Brian Johnson sings like there's a cattle prod on his balls. The album was composed by Johnson and brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, and recorded over seven weeks in the Bahamas from April to May 1980 with producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who had also produced Highway to Hell. The album's all-black cover was designed as a "sign of mourning" for Scott. Back in Black was an unprecedented commercial and critical success. It has sold an estimated 50 million copies worldwide, making it the second-best-selling album in music history. AC/DC supported the album with a yearlong world tour that cemented them among the most popular music acts of the early 1980s. It has since been included on numerous "greatest albums" lists. On 21 August 2024, the album was certified 27× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, making it the third-best-selling album in the United States and the best-selling album that never reached the top spot on the American charts. Bon Scott, the band's former vocalist, formed in 1973, AC/DC who first broke into international markets in 1977 with their fourth album, Let There Be Rock, and by 1979 they were poised for greater success with their sixth studio album, Highway to Hell. Producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange helped to make the band's sound more catchy and accessible, and Highway to Hell became their first gold album in the United States, selling over 500,000 copies, while also peaking at number 17 on that country's pop charts and number eight in the United Kingdom. On 19 February 1980, vocalist Bon Scott went on a drinking binge in a London pub that caused him to lose consciousness, so a friend let him rest in the back of his Renault 5 overnight. The next morning, Scott was found unresponsive and rushed to King's College Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival. The coroner ruled that pulmonary aspiration of vomit was the cause of Scott's death, but the official cause was listed on the death certificate as "acute alcoholic poisoning" and classified as "death by misadventure". Scott was cremated, and his ashes were inurned by his family at Fremantle Cemetery in Fremantle, Western Australia. The loss devastated the band, who considered breaking up, but friends and family (particularly Scott’s) persuaded them to carry on. After Scott's funeral on 1 March, the band immediately began auditions for a replacement frontman. At the advice of Lange, they brought in Geordie singer Brian Johnson, who impressed the group. The band begrudgingly worked through the rest of the list of applicants in the following days, and then brought Johnson back for a second rehearsal. As AC/DC commenced writing new material for the follow-up to Highway to Hell, vocalist Bon Scott, who began his career as a drummer with The Spektors, played the drums on demo recordings of "Let Me Put My Love into You" and "Have a Drink on Me". In a 2021 interview with Paste, Angus Young claimed this was the full extent of Scott's contributions to Back in Black (though, at this point, he said the demos on which Scott played drums were of "Hells Bells" and "Have a Drink on Me"). Three weeks of rehearsals for Back in Black were scheduled at London's E-Zee Hire Studios, but the rehearsals were cut to one week when an opening came up at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, in the Bahamas. Although the band had wanted to record their next effort in the UK, there were no studios available, and the Bahamas presented a nice tax advantage, so Back in Black was recorded at Compass Point with producer "Mutt" Lange. Johnson recalled that "It was hardly any kind of studio, we were in these little concrete cells, comfy mind, you had a bed and a chair. And this big old black lady ran the whole place. Oh, she was fearsome, she ruled that place with a rod of iron. We had to lock the doors at night because she'd warned us about these Haitians who'd come down at night and rob the place. So she bought us all these six-foot fishing spears to keep at the fucking door! It was a bit of a stretch from Newcastle, I can tell you." Around the time of the band's arrival in the Bahamas, the area was hit by several tropical storms, which wreaked havoc on the electricity at Compass Point. Johnson referenced the bad weather on the opening lines of "Hells Bells": "I'm rolling thunder, pourin' rain. I'm comin' on like a hurricane. My lightning's flashing across the sky. You're only young but you're gonna die." In addition, some of the group's equipment was initially held up by customs, while other gear was slowly freighted over from the UK. Having never recorded with the group, Johnson felt pressure during the process, and he also reported having trouble adjusting to the environment. Lange focused particular attention on Johnson's vocals, demanding perfection out of each take. It was like, 'Again, Brian, again – hold on, you sang that note too long so there's no room for a breath'. He wouldn't let anything go past him. He had this thing where he didn't want people to listen to the album down the road and say there's no way someone could sing that, they've dropped that in, even the breaths had to be in the right place. And you cannot knock a man for that, but he drove me nuts. I'd be sitting there going, 'Arrggghh!'— Brian Johnson A humorous anecdote involved a take being interrupted by a crab shuffling across the studio's wooden floor. Near the end of the recording process, the band asked manager Ian Jeffery to find a bell to include on the album. Jeffery located a foundry to produce the bell, but, with seven weeks having already gone by, he suggested Platt instead record the bells of a nearby church. Platt did so, but these recordings did not suffice, due to the sound of a flurry of birds flying away that accompanied each peal of the bells. The foundry brought forward production on the bell, which turned out perfectly tuned, and it was recorded with Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio. According to Angus Young, the album's all-black cover was a "sign of mourning" for Scott. Atlantic Records disliked the cover, but accepted it, on the condition that the band put a grey outline around the AC/DC logo. The album was an immediate commercial success, debuting at number one on the British albums chart and reaching number four on the American chart, which Rolling Stone called "an exceptional showing for a heavy-metal album". It topped the British chart for two weeks, and remained in the top 10 of the American chart for more than five months. In Australia, the album reached number one on the ARIA Charts in March 1981. After Back in Black was released, AC/DC's previous records Highway to Hell, If You Want Blood You've Got It, and Let There Be Rock all re-entered the British charts, which made them the first band since The Beatles to have four albums in the British Top 100 simultaneously. Back in Black's American success prompted Atlantic, the band's US record company, to release their 1976 album Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap for the first time in the US, and in May 1981 Dirty Deeds reached number three on the US chart, surpassing Back in Black's peak position. To promote the album, music videos were filmed for "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Hells Bells", the title track, "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution", "Let Me Put My Love into You", and "What Do You Do for Money Honey", though only the first four of those songs were released as singles. "You Shook Me All Night Long" became AC/DC's first Top 40 hit in the US, peaking at number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. On August 21, 2024, the album was certified 27× multi-platinum by the RIAA, denoting 27 million American sales. This placed it sixth on the list of the best-selling albums in the US. Worldwide, it has sold 50 million copies, leading Mark Beaumont of NME to call it "the biggest selling hard rock album ever made" For Rolling Stone in 1980, David Fricke regarded it as "not only the best of AC/DC's six American albums", but also "the apex of heavy-metal art: the first LP since Led Zeppelin II that captures all the blood, sweat and arrogance of the genre." Rolling Stone ranked it 73 in 2003 "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" number 84 on the 2020 Five months after Bon Scott's death, AC/DC finished the work they had begun with him; they released Back in Black as a tribute to him, but his name did not appear in the writing credits. The issue of whether Scott's lyrics were used, uncredited, on the album remains an enduring topic of debate and was a major focus of Jesse Fink's biography of Scott, Bon: The Last Highway. In the book, Scott's girlfriend Margaret "Silver" Smith (died 2006) told Fink that Scott called her on the evening before his death to invite her out to celebrate writing lyrics for Back in Black. Smith told Fink, "I’ve never sat down and listened to [Back in Black] but the night that he died that was why he wanted to go out. He'd finished [the lyrics]. I'd been around for the writing of a few albums by then so he knew that I knew what his pattern was. He would write away from the band. If they were in the studio he'd be up in the kitchen, a couple of floors away or something; pretty much just stay there by himself ... that's why he wanted to go out. 'I’ve finally bloody finished it. It's done.' Fink also produced quotes from Scott's ex-bandmate in Australian band The Valentines, Vince Lovegrove, who stated that Scott's family receives royalties for Back in Black. Another girlfriend of Scott's, "Holly X" (a pseudonym), also claims Scott wrote the song "You Shook Me All Night Long". Fink also revealed past interview quotes from Angus Young, in some of which he admitted that Scott's lyrics were at least partly used, and others in which he denied it. In a 1991 interview with Kerrang! magazine, Young was asked by journalist Paul Elliott, "Who wrote the lyrics on [‘Given The Dog A Bone’] and the others on Back in Black? Bon, or Brian, or both?" Young replied, "Bon wrote a little of the stuff." The official credits on the album were and remain "Young/Young/Johnson". In 2022, Johnson released his autobiography, The Lives of Brian, and denied Scott had written lyrics for Back in Black. He stated, "The conspiracy theories are legend – usually started by people who think they know but weren't there... it was me at the end of the pen, writing every night and every morning, with only the title to work with. That's what happened. That's the truth and I really hope that settles it." Johnson made particular reference to writing the lyrics to "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Have a Drink on Me", "Hells Bells" and "Back in Black", and stated that he was given nothing more than a riff and a title to work with. He also said that the title of the song "Rock 'n' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" had come directly from a story Scott had told the rest of the band. Back in Black was released at a time when heavy metal stood at a turning point between a decline and a revival, as most bands in the genre were playing slower tempos and longer guitar solos, while AC/DC and Van Halen adopted punk rock's "high-energy implications" and "constricted their songs into more pop-oriented blasts". Harrington credited producer Lange for drawing AC/DC further away from the blues-oriented rock of their previous albums, and toward a more dynamic attack that concentrated and harmonized each element of the band: "the guitars were compacted into a singular statement of rhythmic efficiency, the rhythm section provided the thunderhorse overdrive, and vocalist Johnson bellowed and brayed like the most unhinged practitioner of bluesy top-man dynamics since vintage Robert Plant." Tom Moon said Back in Black's "lean mean arena rock" and the production's "delicate balance of power and finesse [...] defined the commercial side of heavy music for years after its release." Lange's production for the album has had an enduring impact in the music industry. Harrington wrote that "to this day, producers still use it as the de facto paint-by-numbers guidebook for how a hard-rock record should sound", and, in the years after its release, studios in Nashville would use it to check the acoustics of a room, while Motörhead would use it to tune their sound system. 1.) "Hells Bells" the opening track, serving as a dark, atmospheric tribute to their former lead singer Bon Scott, who had died five months earlier. The song functions as a "funeral toll" for Scott, who was known for his wild, hard-living persona often described as "raising hell". The title is a play on the common British/Australian exclamation "hell’s bells," used to express surprise or anger. In the song's context, it shifts into an ominous reference to the underworld and mortality. Written by new vocalist Brian Johnson, the lyrics use metaphors like "rolling thunder" and "pouring rain" to evoke a sense of impending doom and the reality of death. Johnson has stated the lyrics "poured out" of him during a tropical storm in the Bahamas, feeling as if Scott's spirit were present. To achieve the song's authentic, somber tone, the band refused to use a studio sound effect. They commissioned a custom, one-ton bronze bell from John Taylor Bellfounders in England. Because the bell wasn't finished in time for the studio sessions, a mobile recording unit was brought to the foundry to capture its toll. Engineer Tony Platt recorded the strikes and later slowed them down to half-speed to make the bell sound like a much heavier, more "ominous" two-ton bell. The song became a staple for intimidating stadium entrances, most notably for MLB relief pitcher Trevor Hoffman. In 1993, the song was played over loudspeakers in Somalia to help locate and comfort imprisoned pilot Michael Durant, Black Hawk Down, who was a fan of the band. 2.) "Shoot to Thrill" it features multiple layers of meaning ranging from literal inspiration to sexual metaphor. The Literal Inspiration: "Suburban Pushers" The "Milkman" Dealer, Lead singer Brian Johnson stated he was inspired by a British news article about a drug dealer who made daily rounds in the London suburbs. The article described how this dealer sold narcotics (specifically "pills") to bored, depressed housewives who would then go to local clubs looking for excitement. "Too Many Pills": This context explains the line "Too many women with too many pills", with "Shoot to thrill" potentially referring to the injection of these substances for a quick "thrill. Sexual Double Entendre: The Gun Metaphor: In standard AC/DC fashion, the lyrics heavily use a gun as a phallic "Pulling the Trigger": Phrases like "I got my gun at the ready, gonna fire at will" and "pull the trigger" are widely interpreted as references to male sexual climax. Angus Young has noted that the song's mid-track "breakdown"—where the music slows down and builds tension—was inspired by the final three-way standoff in Sergio Leone's film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The sequence was designed to mirror the slow, atmospheric build of Morricone’s soundtrack piece "Il Triello" before exploding into a fast-paced finale. "Iron Man" Connection: Tony Stark's Theme: The song gained a massive new generation of fans after being featured as the entrance music for Tony Stark in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers. Film critics and fans often point out that the song’s themes of reckless living and womanizing perfectly match the persona of Stark in the early Marvel films. 3.) “What Do You Do for Money Honey" explores themes of Golddigger - transactional relationships, ambition, and the darker side of the "hustle". The song's narrator observes a mysterious woman and questions the source of her wealth. "you're lovin' on the take and you're always on the make" suggest a lifestyle where personal connections are used for financial gain. "squeezin' all the blood outta men" portrays a cynical, almost predatory view of how the subject maintains her status. Many critics and fans interpret the track as a "hooker song," though it avoids explicit terms, instead using street-smart metaphors to describe the world of professional companionship. Malcolm Young had the main guitar riff developed years before the song was actually written. The title is likely a reference to the 1953 rhythm and blues hit "Money Honey" by Clyde McPhatter and the Drifters, which similarly dealt with the struggles and demands of money in relationships. 4.) “Givin the Dog a Bone” Well this song doesn’t take a rocket scientist pretty mysoginsit rock and roll good fun tells a tale of receiving oral sex form a woman – utilizing the metaphor of just giving the dog a bone… The band’s signature style, the song is built on a literal idiom used as a provocative sexual double entendre. Also the ‘dog’ is also a bitch. The title is a play on the traditional English nursery rhyme "Knick Knack Paddy Whack," which contains the line, "Give the dog a bone". The lyrics describe a woman who is "no Mona Lisa" no “Playboy Model” but is highly seductive and "takes you down easy," focusing on the theme of satisfying physical desires. ACDC spells it "Givin the Dog a Bone" (without an apostrophe). This was one of the first songs for which new vocalist Brian Johnson wrote lyrics. He has described the song as being "subtly filthy" and filled with clever wordplay that stops just short of being explicit. It is a high-energy "bluesy rocker" in the key of A, featuring a main riff that Malcolm Young had developed years before the song was completed 5.) "Let Me Put My Love into You" Like many of the band's tracks, it uses thin metaphors and sexual double entendres to describe physical intimacy. A straightforward, mid-tempo rocker about a male narrator expressing intense sexual desire for a woman. The lyrics utilize various euphemisms for intercourse, most notably the line: "Let me cut your cake with my knife". Critics and listeners have often noted the song's more aggressive and "macho" lyrical style compared to others on the album. Phrases like "Don't you struggle / Don't you fight" have been criticized by some as having a dark or questionable tone regarding consent. Unlike the high-energy anthems on the album, this track is described as "heavy and syrupy," leaning closer to heavy metal with its slow, "ringing" low-E string riff. In modern fan circles, the line "Let me cut your cake with my knife" is often jokingly linked to British baking icon Mary Berry, though the song predates her TV fame by decades. 6.) "Back in Black" is the ultimate comeback anthem, written as a defiant celebration of the band's late frontman, Bon Scott. While "Hells Bells" was the somber funeral toll, "Back in Black" is the "party at the wake." The band wanted a song that celebrated Scott's life and "rebel" spirit rather than wallowing in sadness. They specifically asked new singer Brian Johnson to write lyrics that weren't "mopey." The title refers to the band returning to the music scene after a period of mourning, wearing black as a mark of respect for their fallen comrade. The line "I got nine lives, cat's eyes" refers to the band's (and Scott's) resilience and ability to survive the toughest lifestyles and setbacks. "Forget the hearse 'cause I never die" signify that Bon Scott’s legacy and the band's spirit are immortal through their music. Angus Young came up with the legendary opening riff while "messing around" on a guitar in a dressing room; he reportedly told his brother Malcolm, "I think I've got something here." The entire album cover was kept all black as a sign of mourning for Scott, a move the record label initially resisted because they thought it wouldn't sell. They also were sued for stealing the “black” concept. 7.) "You Shook Me All Night Long" well – more of ACDC’s signature shenanigans - the band's ultimate "boy-meets-girl" anthem, focusing on a memorable sexual encounter with a woman who leaves the narrator completely exhausted. To be "shaken" in this context means to be physically and emotionally rocked by someone’s sexual prowess. Unlike some of the grittier tracks on the album, the lyrics describe a woman who is "fast" and "clean," with metaphors like "working double time on the seduction line" and "knocking me out with those American thighs." In classic rock fashion, Brian Johnson uses automotive imagery—"took me to the limit and you stood me there" and "shook me like a horse and carriage"—to describe the intensity of the night. Brian Johnson wrote the lyrics after seeing images of "American girls" and their distinctive "thighs" while the band was recording in the Bahamas. He wanted to capture the "perfect rock and roll girl." The line "working double time on the seduction line" is a play on factory work, suggesting she is a professional at what she does. It was the first AC/DC single to break into the Top 40 in the US, cementing their transition from underground hard rock to global superstardom. Despite the good heart hearted misogyny you have to admit is a damn well written song. 8.) "Have a Drink on Me" is a high-octane toast to excess, serving as a "cheers" to the memory of Bon Scott, who was famously fond of the bottle. Along with the title track, this song was written to celebrate Scott’s "social" side. Instead of being a warning about alcohol, it’s a celebration of the hard-partying lifestyle he personified. The lyrics describe a classic night out—buying rounds for the house, getting "loaded," and ignoring the consequences. Given that Scott died of acute alcohol poisoning, some find the song macabre, but the band viewed it as the most honest tribute they could give: a song about the thing Bon loved doing most. "I'm dizzy, drunk and high": A direct nod to the sensory overload of a heavy night out. "Whiskey, gin and brandy / With a glass I'm pretty handy": Highlights the "professional" level of drinking the band was known for. "Don't worry 'bout the price / It's on the house": Captures the reckless, generous spirit of a "king of the bar" persona. It features one of Malcolm Young’s most swing-heavy, "drunken" blues riffs, designed to make people want to move. Brian Johnson delivers the lines with a raspy, celebratory grit that suggests he’s right there in the pub with the listener. 9.) "Shake a Leg" is the penultimate, high-speed track a classic "outlaw" anthem about rebellion, restless energy, and escaping the law. While "shake a leg" usually means to hurry up or dance, AC/DC uses it here to describe a frantic escape. It's about a character who is "on the run" and living life at breakneck speed. The lyrics feature a protagonist who has "no respect" for the law and is "breaking all the rules." It captures the classic rock and roll trope of the social outcast who refuses to settle down or be caught. Lines like "Keep on growin' / Keep on flowin'" and "I'm a wild man" emphasize a life of constant motion and physical energy. Brian Johnson delivers some of his highest, most piercing screams on the album here, matching the frantic, "nervous" energy of the guitar work. The "Speed" Track: This is the fastest song on the album. It serves as a high-intensity bridge between the bluesy "Have a Drink on Me" and the mid-tempo finale, "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution." Angus Young’s guitar solo is considered one of his most technically demanding and "shred-heavy," reinforcing the theme of chaotic, unstoppable speed. 10.) “Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" the final track and definitive manifesto of the 1980 album Back in Black. It serves as a defiant defense of rock music against critics and local authorities who viewed it as a public nuisance. The song is a direct response to those who claimed rock music was nothing more than "noise" or "pollution". The lyrics assert that rock and roll is a vital, enduring force that "will never die". Malcolm Young explained that the title came from news reports in London regarding noise pollution. Authorities were cracking down on clubs like the legendary Marquee Club because they were in built-up areas, and new environmental health laws were restricting loud music after 11 PM. The improvised spoken intro by Brian Johnson—"All you middle men throw away your fancy clothes"—was a jab at the grey area of industry executives and bureaucratic "top guys" who weren't doing the real work but were still making the rules. The album was originally supposed to have only nine tracks. Their management and label requested one more song, so Angus and Malcolm Young wrote "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" in roughly 15 minutes. In the song's first 12 seconds, you can clearly hear the sound of a lighter clicking and Brian Johnson taking a pull from a cigarette before he starts singing. Despite being a "filler" track written in minutes, it became the highest-charting single from the album in the UK, reaching #15. Very good record.
Never been a huge fan, but this is one of their records I like. Shook Me may even be my favorite song of theirs.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think a fair few of these songs sound pretty similar. At least toward the beginning. I like AC/DC's sound. They're as well known as they are for a reason, and I do quite enjoy them. I think that this was great. Of course it's great, but whereas I thought this would be an easy 5 star it falls a bit short due to the vocals getting very stale very quick. Back in Black, fortunately, reset that for me and I was able to enjoy a majority of the album. That kind of shrill vocal just really didn't work for me the entire time.
I've heard this one before. It's pretty good. Can't argue with Metallica.
Wonderfully repetitive and lots of lyrics about shaking
A complex concept album based on Cartesian duality; the physical rock of the body competing with, but ultimately helpless without the rolling mind. It’s a brilliant reinterpretation through thoughtful tracks such as “Let me put my love in you” and “You shook me all night long”. Who hasn’t suffered long sleepless nights wrestling with the paradox of the human condition? I know I have. Highly intellectual study of the duality of the rock and the roll. 4 stars
Maybe doesn't have the most artistic merit but lots of fun. Hells Bells and Shoot to Thrill are my favourite on here.
This is obviously a classic album from a legendary rock band. It's not quite in the same ranks as my favorite, 5/5 albums but it's definitely a solid 4/5 for me.
This album came out when I was in junior high and it's a banger. Back in Black and Hells Bells get all of the credit, but my favorite is Shoot to Thrill. This is about the hardest rock I listen to, and I love it.
Highlights: Hells Bells, Shoot to Thrill, Givin' the Dog a Bone, Back In Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution AC/DC is extremely spoiled for me because it was overplayed in the local gym. When I think of AC/DC I think of every possible normie poser that claims that he's a rocker because he knows their hits - it's something they have in common with Metallica and GnR. Also, without exception on every mention of AC/DC I get flashbacks of Iron Man 2... I still find AC/DC worthy of all of its praise but I can't find myself listening to them of my own free will. Like yeah, they don't pretend to be edgy like some other twats and their music is just pure fun, but given the earlier context, their music just comes off as kinda cringey. But yeah, the sound of Back in Black puts the hard in hard rock, and it's probably their most densely megahit-packed record. Am I saying it's their best? Not really. I'm not really tapped into their discography, but my likes are evenly distributed across their 70s and 80s run. That said, if it isn't their best, it has to at least be second best. Really, I don't see any difference compared to their older or newer stuff, so to me the only benchmark that it's better than something else is just the density of hits. A big problem with their music is that I feel like there is never a concept of the record. I bet you that you can give me some random compilation and tell me that it's a studio album and it would feel the same... I guess that means their formula is good doe? So even though it was hard to survive without cringing while listening, I recognize its value and what it is and isn't meant to be. It is fun and my head does bop so it's mission accomplished.
8/10 - Absolute classic
Que pedazo de álbum. Una bestialidad lo que suenan. Rock puro. Hitasos.
GOOD!!
From the opening bell tolls and iconic guitar lead in of Hell’s Bells, this album is balls to the wall!
In all honesty, I have no idea what this guy was saying throughout the entirety of the album. That being said, this was a thoroughly enjoyable listen that I could instantly get into despite not having heard all of the songs before.
Classic rock. No other notes
Hard to not go full Beavis and Butthead while listening to this album. Basically no skips, rocks so hard from start to finish. A perfect album to air guitar to
wow muchos temas que no sabía que conocía
Pure rock!
espectacular
everything you want in an 80s hard rock album. angus shredding on the guitar. brian johnson definitely a step down from bon scott, but still good
I surely can't give AC/DC a 5...right? I don't think I quite can, but no doubt that this album is big, fun, and kinda dumb all at the same time. But the RIFFS man...some all-time iconic licks here that are just undeniable. Half of this album almost everyone knows and speaks to how they were able to carry on with Brian (not going to open up the Brian vs Bon debate, but the man has pipes) and not just survive, but thrive. No one is awarding this any merits for lyrics but I guess that's beside the point with this type of hard rock (note: not metal). It's a sort of least-common-denominator classic probably because it doesn't ask you to think that hard and just rock.
average classic rock
Hells Bells indeed. Those are bells. Their satanic nature however I cannot speak to. Who knows. Nearly every song in this has done crazy numbers. Like it's one of the albums. I would be quite hard pressed to find someone who's not heard one. Shoot to thrill indeed. They're just saying words but it's so cunt. The songs should not be this long. Favourite: Back In Black Least favourite: You Shook Me All Night Long
Every song recognisable and kind of a banger, although due to the overplayed nature of this album it now sounds like a giant iron man promo
Classic album. Great hard rock album. Guitar tone and riffs are excellent. Notables include Hell’s Bells, Shoot to Thrill, Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Rock N Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution.
Liked very many songs. Amazing singer
BEST SONGS: - Let Me Put My Love Into You - Hells Bells
Arena rock at its peak, and AC/DC arguably at their best. I’ve always found the instrumentals engaging, despite never being a huge fan of arena rock as a genre. I never quite understood the appeal of Bon Scott’s vocals, and I find Brian Johnson’s screechier delivery even less enjoyable. That said, it’s hard to imagine the band achieving the level of success they did without either of them. Back in Black probably deserves a 5 based solely on its status as the second highest selling album of all time, but on personal taste, specifically the vocals it lands at a 4.
ya lo conocía
Ive bashed AC/DC in the past mainly because the drumming sounds the same and can get boring but after listening to this album, those drums along with the great guitar riffs and writing and the vocals make this entire band unique and revolutionary in a way. Sure their sound may be repetitive but it makes the great riffs and vocals shine that much more. Favorite Song: Shoot To Thrill. 7/10
This is the first AC/DC album that I have ever listened to. Of course, I’ve heard and enjoyed the radio singles off this album (“You Shook Me All Night Long” and “Back in Black”) but never really had the interest or desire to listen to any other AC/DC beyond that. I don’t really consider myself much of a “hard rock” guy. But, shame on me. I really missed out on this album, because it is BAD ASS!!!! I mean, relentless and epic RAWWK. Every song is a head banger from beginning to end. I saw that someone described this album as “a classic that simultaneously defines and transcends cock rock”. And I am forced to agree. I get it. This album is energetic and “ballsy”. A straight no chaser does of just plain FUN. Love it.
Having to sit through Let Me Put My Love Into You to get to Back in Black feels like the universe trying to teach me a lesson or something. Anyway, mostly iconic, several very forgettable songs. I don't think I need to listen to this as an album again.
Not a huge fan of heavy metal, but I have to say hells bells and let me put my love into you got me. Loved it
Igual, imposible no hacer head-banging!
Standard for heavy rock....one dimensional but very good
Previously I've not been a fan of AC/DC, I actually agree with all the 1/2* reviews here about how simple the formula here is but here's the thing - on this record not only does it work to keep entertaining, but it doesn't get old after like 40 minutes. I think it deserves some credit for the stripped down pop metal songwriting here and I did ultimately enjoy nearly every song so 4* works well for me.
welp! guess I have to ride a monster truck because that's what this album makes ya feel like. certainly a confident record.
Definitely the best ac dc album
This is important. This means something.
HD560s Played loud, 10 songs, pretty much all perfect. Brian's first and best ac/dc album. New found appreciation for the rock and roll lyrics, Shake A Leg is underrated and fun, although a band probably would not produce such a song nowadays. A timeless favourite.
I knew a handful of these songs but had never listened to the entire album. There are 3 tiers of songs on here: the top tier includes the songs that are in heavy rotation on classic rock stations everywhere (Hell's Bells, Back In Black, You Shook Me..., Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution), the next tier are the still decent songs that get occasional plays (Shoot to Thrill, Have a Drink On Me), and then the rest just feels like filler. 4 stars.
Holds up
just don't like the squeaky singing, test is ace
I had no idea how big this album was til I looked it up - not the most intelectual album ever but what they do they do really well
Crazy number of songs that still get airplay
Unfortunately for me, I love AC/DC so goddamn much, it feels like my heart is gonna explode out of my chest, Grinch style. Wild these guys have been writing the same fucking song for 60 years and it's always dope.
4 Stars. Always liked this one. You know the hits. The rest are good too
Classic album with 0 skips a lack of variety keeps it from being perfect. Instant 4.5/5
This is just a good album. I think that the singer sounds like a muppet who is going to destroy his vocal chords in every song. But these songs are so catchy, the riffs are so simple-yet-awesome, and the lyrics are so prototypically of the time that it is nearly perfect in what it's trying to do. It was a very fun listen even though I kind of dreaded listening to all of these songs I've heard hundreds of times on the radio and in various other settings.
Good old hoary rock n roll
Really strong album. Slightly dodgy lyrics in places, but the music is excellent.
Excellent album, particularly like "You shook me all night long".
Big dumb fun - this album is just the musical representation of a horny teenage male. Big power chords, sweaty riffs, shrieky vocals, this is the hyper sexualised 80s in a nutshell. Every song is so catchy but paper thin under the lyrics and iconic riffs. A real struggle to rate because it’s so iconic, but actually listening with a critic’s ear actually makes you think while listening - something you wouldn’t normally do when listening to AC/DC. Usually you’re using your head to headbang rather than think! 7/10 for me. The dumbness wins.
I've never been a big ACDC guy. Not the band I would check out when listening to older rock. Gotta say, I was impressed. Its not particularly interesting hard rock, but it is very catchy, very hard, rock. Although damn, maybe cut it with the songs about banging.
classic for a reason
Classic (even tho I havent heard this album before). I had fun listening to this
i'm feeling generous, so i'll give this a 4. it's big dumb and loud and also immediately recognizable and iconic. just absolutely wild vocals, though, it has to be said. AC/DC stands for Actually... Crazy? (thoughtful pause) Damn. Crazy.
i used to like some ac/dc songs in middle school, then i hated them for a while, and now i'm back to liking certain tracks. idk man it's complicated. i've never gotten over the insanely terrible vocals though. what were they thinking?!? anyway back in black is a better single than highway to hell, and the other huge tracks on here (hells bells and you shook me) are massive tunes. the rest is... well, not great. but you shook me is definitely one of the best ac/dc songs of all time along with moneytalks (don't @ me) so fuck it, four stars. favorites: hells bells, back in black, you shook me all night long
This album just screams good times at the expense of others. every time I listen to a song on this album I feel like I’m the coolest bitch around and I love it. Thought it was slightly repetitive but otherwise I love this album’s vibe.
This has got to be the ultimate success story of tragedy claims kick-ass frontman who is then replaced by badass frontman & the group carries on to great success. This group does one thing & they do it well. I’m going with 3&1/2, but the tricky part is which way to go from there. Def seems like a flat 3 is too low, but I don’t think this is their best album so a 4 seems a little high. Fuhgit. High energy hard rockin gets the push. Four it is
this is and iron maden is the type of music people expect you hear when you tell them you listen to rock or metal. Funny enough AC/DC is one of the bands I listened when starting to listen to music. However, I have to admit that this album has many hits in it isnt that bad 4/5.
В мене були різні відносини з AC/DC, але саме Back in Black мені подобався завжди.
I think this is nearly a perfect album. All the riffs are great. Nearly ever song is a banger. 4.9/5
I would have loved this as a teenager
Found out this album came out on my birthday, well 24 years before it, so that's cool. Overall a pretty solid album, exactly what I expect from AC/DC
Absolute gem! This album is incredibly coherent from start to finish, which really made me think about how many albums today have lost the sense of a true album or project identity. At times, I wouldn’t even notice when one song ended and another began until it fully kicked in. Great solos and an amazing overall energy. Rock n roll aint noise pollution!
👍🏻
classic album. i haven’t listened to it in years but it reminds me of long car rides with jerry👹👹
1/20/26: Again, didn't realize how many hits were in this album. 7/10
Amazing album. Stuffed full of old school misogyny and riffs galore that's laced with old school humour. Love it, but know that it would never get recorded in this day and age.
Lost a great lead singer one album earlier and replaced with a just as great if not better on this album…AC/DC always recognizable from the first note. Great album.
Some of these songs could be easily construed as being a bit sexual in nature.
So much fun 4.25
Very enjoyable listen!! Favorite song would probably be Shoot to Thrill
Different vibe but definitely liked it
I liked it! It was like white stripes and black keys ish - classic 2000s rock. Would have played on KJEE.
it many ways, it's annoying. in other ways, it's undeniable.
Garages that have been full of cigarette smoke for a long time have a distinct smell. This album is that smell.
Not yet
nuanced: hell no kicks ass: hell yeah
Pretty cool
Top 3: Hells Bells, Let Me Put My Love Into You, Back In Black
Several bangers on this one.
Classic
Yeah it's fucking awesome. All gas no fluff.
This album reminds me of my dad. We would listen to this album on road trips sometimes. He had the CD in his car. 1. Hells Bells- Really like the guitar riff. Like that the album starts slow with the bells ringing 2. Shoot to Thrill - I like the beat. Don’t really know this one. 3. What Do You Do for Money Honey - eh. 4. Giving the Dog a Bone - I remember my dad playing this one because of the title and chorus, but the actual song does not stick out in my mind. 5. Let Me Put My Love Into You - I appreciate that this song sounds different from the rest of the album so far. They were starting to sound a bit too similar. But the chorus is bad. 6. Back In Black - hell yeah. A classic for a reason. The second the song starts, you’re like “oof. Yeah.” And nodding your head. Kinda a brilliant song. Guitar riff and drums are killer. Sick guitar solo. 7. You Shook Me All Night Long - another classic. Very fun. Sometimes I forget and think it’s a KISS song lol. Great chorus. 8. Have a Drink On Me - a pretty solid song. 9. Shake a Leg - crazy guitar solo. Good for them. A little Led Zeppelin-y in the best way. 10. Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution - love the way the song starts. Don’t love the chorus. Fave song: Back In Black Album rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 3.9
Its AC/DC nothing else to say, niceee!
Banger after banger. A vibe when you’re in the mood for AC/DC, which is almost never—but not never!
Carried by its huge singles, even if some of the non-single tracks lack a bit of punch.
"Let Me Put My Love Into You" is a Spinal Tap song if I’ve ever heard one.
This album feels like tasting a charging cable just after you unplug it in front of your whole family but you don’t care about them you are just trying to figure out what’s this taste
Hell yeah I can listen to this LOUD. Just some good rock
The hits are worth the 4 stars
Solid rock album! Enjoyed this one. So many hits: You Shook Me All Night Long, Back in Black, Hells Bells. The rest of the album was good but Givin the Dog a Bone was too repetitive for me.
Know it. Like it. Upvote. Moving on.
Another classic album. A bunch of hits and the rest of the album is also quite good. Favourite songs: Back in Black, Hells Bells, You Shook Me All Night Long and Shoot To Thrill.
gostei bastante 8/10
Timeless.
Solid rock album with some classic tracks.
popular but not really my vibe eh
Makes me want to smoke Winnie blues and drive a truck
A classic.
A classic rock album. There is not a lot of changes from song to song they recycled a lot of what they had over and over. Still it's a good piece they are recycling.
I like some AC/DC but this was even better than I expected. Really good, sometimes heavy riffs and more variety than they get credit for. I did start to get a little bored near the end tho
love AC/DC favorite tracks: shoot to thrill givin the dog a bone back in black
The instruments were perfect for each song. If I listen to the album a few more times I will get to enjoy it more! AC/DC is a classic and creative band.
The best description I ever heard of AC/DC is that they've been playing the same song for 50 years but it's a really good song.
How the hell do I vote
Fave tracks: Shoot to Thrill You Shook Me All Night Long
It's a classic. Not giving it a 5 star because they all start to sound the same by the end. Still a great listen.
probably one of the best first albums i could have gotten, i don’t normally love heavier stuff but i did enjoy this, it’s a rly fun record and it’s obviously extremely iconic, it does get a little repetitive towards the end i was a bit ready for the album to be over and i was starting to get tired of bon scott’s very distinct voice but still a great album.
Great album, a fun listen
Vilket var jävligt oväntat - Giving the dog a bone och Let me put my love into you.
I love this album, it’s one of dad’s favorite so it has a lot of good memories
The hits here are undeniable
It's amazing how this music went from "wow I feel like I'm at a biker bar" to "that song from Iron Man". Still cool, though.
No surprises here - solid guitar riffs
Now this is a screaming album i like haha. He basically starts high and the tempo never loses steam. How does he perform this even without going mad? The songs are all so catchy. Back in black is especially my favorite
Fun and cheesy
Had some incredible stuff amazing riffs but some real duds too.
Some fun classics here. Makes me think of the movie Megamind because it has AC/DC songs from this album in the soundtrack.
i can't lie, some of these songs hit hard, but i am no longer in this portion of my life where i thoroughly enjoy this album Would I listen again: sometimes Deserves to be on this list: yes 3.8
Good album, ahead of its time. Need to listen more to it
Brian Johnson’s first album with ACDC. I find it mad that Bon Scott had only died about 8/9 months before. It’s a good album, you know what you’re getting with ACDC and they’re good at it. It’s by no means in their top albums but it’s a solid head banger album. Also Hells Bells is a great opener. 4.0/5.0 Best Song: Shoot To Thrill
Double Time On The Seduction Line 1001 Albums Generator 172 (11/28/2025) Anybody who has been playing for a year or two could play bass, drums, or rhythm guitar for AC/DC. Seriously, listen to the drum parts on any two songs here and I guarantee you that they are nearly identical kick-snare-kick-snare classic rock beats. The basslines are largely just eighth note chugging on the root of the current chord, and the rhythm guitar parts are normally these sort of "new guitar player's first riff" riffs. The amazing thing about this band is that, in spite of this, they manage to have four (count 'em - FOUR) iconic, all time classics on their 1980 album Back In Black. Between Hell's Bells, Shoot To Thrill, the title track, and You Shook Me All Night Long, there is no shortage of classic tunes here. However, while Highway To Hell had great deep cuts too, Back In Black does not have nearly as much outside of the hits. If someone were going to accuse AC/DC of being a "singles band", this would be a great album to do so. What Do You Do For Money Honey, Givin The Dog A Bone, and Shake A Leg are all pretty bad. This makes Back In Black a tough album to rate, but the nostalgia factor is just too strong. 4/5. Favs: Hell's Bells Shoot To Thrill Back In Black Least Fav: Givin The Dog A Bone
Rv
I enjoyed this much more than I expected. The hits were great but the rest was solid too
79/100. A solid hard rock album and arguably their best. While it doesn’t reinvent their sound, it perfects the formula they’re known for. It’s iconic arena rock at its finest, predictable maybe, but undeniably effective.
Just straight away rock. High energy. Classic. You know what you're getting with AC/DC.
I’ve heard most of these songs individually, but never all together. Really good album to put on when cooking.
Great album! If you like this style of music this is the gold standard you can listen start to finish no weak songs plus a load of classic hits! 4 stars
I can't remember the last time I listened to this album front to back. I do remember being obsessed with the title track, to the point that I played it twice in a row on a restaurant jukebox when I was a kid. My dad scolded me for it. I didn't care - that songs slapped then and it still does now. I really enjoyed this album, front to back. I was surprised by that, because in the past I've viewed AC/DC as a pretty repetitive band. The songs all kind of sounded the same, were all high energy, and all relied heavily on their riffs. This album carries some of those themes with it, but it enhances them. The structure is a little tighter, the direction clearer, and the accessibility of the songs feels a little greater. You could say that they were trying to be more commercial, and I wouldn't blame you if you did; the title track and "You Shook Me All Night Long" have become radio hits and fodder for cover bands every since. But I do think it was an evolution in sound, necessitated by the loss of Bon Scott. Yes, Brian Johnson was chosen as Scott's replacement specifically because he had a vocal style similar to Scott. But he was a new collaborator, and with a new voice comes new ideas and direction. I thought this was fantastic. It holds up incredibly well, the production is clean, and overall it's a blast to listen to. Four stars. Standout Tracks: Hells Bells, Shoot to Thrill, Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long
Me Put My Love Into You cf “Let me cut your cake with my knife”).
Solid Rift based rock, classic!
Classic ACDC. Fuerte al diome.
Amusing to see so many reviews criticising this for being simplistic and juvenile - that's the whole point! I feel sorry for you if you can't enjoy it for what it is...
Easily 90% of my nostalgia for AC/DC comes from playing Tony Hawk so much as a kid. They're very far outside of my musical strike zone, but a lot of these tracks are sing-alongs for me.
No. 331/1001 Hells Bells 5/5 Shoot to Thrill 4/5 What Do You Do For Money Honey 4/5 Givin the Dog a Bone 3/5 Let Me Put My Love In You 3/5 Back In Black 4/5 You Shook Me All Night Long 5/5 Have a Drink On Me 4/5 Shake a Leg 3/5 Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution 4/5 Average: 3,9 Just an all-around great Hard-Rock record. Really enjoyed listening to this one.
AC/DC has always been a weird one for me. I’ve criticized them in the past, and I’ve also defended them from those same criticisms. Lyrically the songs aren’t great, and the music is pretty basic but the way they come together is undeniably badass. I’ll always prefer the Bon Scott era, but holy shit what a perfect album to release following that tremendous loss. I’ll never go out of my way to put this one on, and when songs from this album come on the radio I change the station 90% of the time, but I still recognize what an achievement this album is, not only for the band but for stepdads all over the world. I was gonna give it 3 stars, but Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution as a closer earns it 4.
A great classic rock album, executed to perfection. You know exactly what you’re going to get and it’s exactly what you want. Robust riffs, charismatic vocals and solid drums that consistently deliver an instantly recognisable AC/DC sound.
This album is formulaic riff tastic feast for the heavy rock fan. I cant honestly say that this is a masterpiece of musical tallent but in some ways the concept is excellently crafted. Its smashes fun and delivers a package that is worthy of the genre and its hall of fame. I cant help but be uplifted when I hear AC/DC and their well known bangers. The thing with this album is they just keep coming and nothing really lets the album down as a whole. Its simple composition just does the job really well.
Classic album that still rocks hard. I was loving it from start to finish. The riffs are simple, the sound is urgent and loud, and the vocals are an assault on the ears. The album isn't doing anything too deep or complex, but it does what it does extremely well. Its an American-inspired classic rock sound but they nail it so perfectly it has to be one of the best examples of the genre. It struck me on a second listen that if you lowered the tempo slightly and removed the distortion you could call this a blues album. I thought that just nicely highlighted the continuum of rock on which AC/DC are placed. An album that unashamedly is what it is and I very much enjoyed it.
Its ACDC
Cliched but it still rocks.
I'm in between a 4 and 5. On one hand it is a rocking album and a huge comeback album after their lead singer died. On the other hand, they use like the same four chords for each song. I'll go 4.
A solid album with a lot of hard rock classics. Shoot to Thrill is an underrated track.
Has some classic arena rock anthems that will still be popular long after I'm gone. ACDC is not my favorite but obviously it's an album full of hits.
Loses a mark for Let Me Put My Love Into You; otherwise a banger.
A bit repetitive but really what isn't? I am no fan and this album doesn't change my opinion. That being said who doesn't love to rock? This will definitely do it for you. 4 stars.
Listened to this in 8th grade during my random AC/DC phase. Looking forward to re-listening now some of the classics are just too good 4/5
Classic. I'm not always into hard work rock but love this.
Got me into rock music
GEm!
4.5/5
I wish they had done more colors. Back in blue. Back in pink. Back in plaid....
Is there an album with more rock anthems? No. Would I listen to again? Absolutely.
ac/dc rocks
The one to have from the brian johnson era.
What if the only reason why AC/DC is successful is because Angus Young sold his soul to the devil with the twist being that it only works in the School Boy Uniform? Also all your songs will sound exactly the same but somehow different. Just look at these tracks on here; It ain't even fair! 1. Hell's Bells 2. Shoot to Thrill The B SIDE!!! Back in Black You Shook Me.... Have a Drink on Me Shake a Leg Rock N Roll Ain't Noise Pollution THATS THE B SIDE BLACK MAGIC FUCKERY nothing more nothing less. Just listen to Give Your Dog a Bone. Its so dumb, it's good. So cheesy. Oh and somehow they did this with a completely different singer because Bon Scott died from binge driinking. blackmagicfuckery The Devil makes the best music. Even though it all sounds the same. 4.5
I always preferred AC/DC's stuff with Ben Scott as frontman, but this was a great introduction for Brian Johnson.
So many bangers on this album, so many awesome guitar pieces. Have a Drink On Me is one I haven’t heard in a long time and it’s incredible
One of the greatest intro song/title song combos. Fun listen. Easy to workout or get stuff done while listening. Obviously school of rock took a ton of inspiration from this album. Crazy to think they pulled this off after the death of their original lead singer
7/10 Solid
It’s basic hard rock music for 14 year olds. The hits are legitimately quite good. The rest can be quiiiiite bad. In my mid teens I once listened to 4 hours of ACDC on a car trip. That was enough to last me 25 years. It was fun to revisit. It kind of pains me, but i think I need to 4 star this one.
Old man party vibes and I’m an old man
