Reviews (page 4 of 14)

The overall thunderous sound of AC/DC at its best. These lyrics are juvenile and outdated, but the sound of the band holds up today.

Banger from start to finish sprinkled with some of the best songs of all time. Quintessential hard rock! Favorite track: Back in Black other picks: hells bells, you shook me all night, rock and roll ain't noise pollution

Easily my favorite AC/DC album. Pure hard rock at its finest.

Back in Black is a lot of things - a tribute to Bon Scott, an introduction to Brian Johnson, and a turning point in the band's trajectory that took them from bars and smaller venues to stadiums. Iconic, memorable, and timeless.

An album I already owned. And it kicks ass.

Knew this album well before it came up on the list, but I can never actually listened to it in full. I got immediately excited as soon as I heard the intro to hells bells. This album strokes your emotions hard and fast- it is hard not to immediately start rocking out when you listen, and it keeps those vibes going the entire time. The instrumentation is really top notch- especially the guitar solos and trills that accentuate the different stages of each song. Angus Young really understood hard rock music and how to feature the guitar. The hits on the album definitely hit, and its no wonder they became such iconic songs from the era. I will day that the overall sound did start to feel a little "same-y" toward the end of the album. It definitely started stronger than it ended. Overall- I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can see how Back in Black was a transformative album on Rock and Roll as a genre. I feel it deserves a 4.5/5 on a personal scale but can definitely feel good about bumping it up to a 5

Rock-n-Roll at its finest!

💖 you shook me all night long 🗣️ 9️⃣

5 Stars!!! Absolutely one of the best albums ever!!!

Fuck the insufferable musical elitists and the critiques about their 18-album discography or their deceptively simple style. This is an absolute classic album that still holds on its merits, let alone against the backdrop of a band losing their talented lead singer and setting a new benchmark for hitting the ground running with v2.0.

To quote another review's quote of Angus Young: "I'm sick to death of people saying we've made 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we've made 12 albums that sound exactly the same."

Classic rock and roll and ACDC style

Real rock

One of my all time favourites albums

Too catchy not to be five stars even if it's nothing new.

a bit repetitive but still a great album

Iconic album, perfect

Great start to finish

It does one thing but it does it so well and doesn't overstay it's welcome. Headbanging occurred.

Undeniable

me in the gym rn 💅🖤😚💀

Top 25 favorite albums of all time for me. Even coming from someone who prefers the Bon Scott era, this is the ultimate AC/DC album - and maybe even the ultimate hard rock album in general. Shoot to Thrill is a perfect song.

Rock N Roll Ain't Noise Pollution.

It's Back in Black. You know it by heart.

Best album by a band with a different singer than previous? I'd vote yes!

AC/DC Black album is the greatest beginning I could have wished for! https://1001albumsgenerator.com/kristymarie

Another hard rock/metal album, of course I'd like it, even if some people may call it overrated nowadays it still has that charm to it that makes me like every song. each song is simple both instrumentally and lyrically and yet it still works in all of the right ways, not quite a 10/10 though because it would have to be something truly special for me to give it 10/10. I admire how they were able to put together such a good album despite losing their lead singer only months prior, and there's generally a reason why this album is so legendary, even if it may grow old for some people.

Really good, probably 3/4s of the album is played multiple times/day on classic rock radio 4+ decades later, amazing.

OK. You want to call them simple-minded? Say that their song-writing is for childish simpletons with caveman-level intellect? Fine but you're only lying to yourself. This music is not for primates, it exists to get you fuckin' hyped on a PRIMAL level. As someone who listens to much more than rock including ambient music, folk music, classical, ect.. I must say there is a place for everything. If a banger from AC/DC played loudly has no effect on you, either that particular AC/DC song is just overplayed (fair), or there's something dead inside of you. When you need to rely on your animal instincts to work a little harder, perform a little better in a sport, or just party really, really hard, wipe the pretentious intellectual sneer of protest off your face and reintroduce yourself to some AC/DC. I could talk about the actual complexities to their music and the sheer skill & musicality it take to play the way they do but I don't have time for that right now. What I will say, is that if you think this music is so cheap, you pick up a guitar and write some high-octane riffs that make people lose their shit in 1 seconds flat, see how easy it is. Every track here is a complete banger, no skips. To say nothing of the fact that this is the FIRST album with a new lead singer after their wildly memorable and charismatic lead signer died is just crazy. No band survives the death of their lead singer, except AC/DC because they give zero fucks about anything. So crack open a Coors or a Fosters for that matter, pour out a little something for Bon Scott, and try to have a good time for fucks sake.

Awesome album . Best bandever

Packed with great music. I still find the guitar solos amazing. A brilliant muscular ball of energy from start to finish.

you don't have to like it,it might not be the deepest, but it rocks!

One of my favorite albums of all time.

Their best

Hard rock doesn't get much better than this. Almost every song on the album is a banger and makes you feel like a badass just listening to it. AC/DC is a legendary band for good reason.

Bangers all the way through. My one complaint is that there are lots of horny lyrics in here.

Another excellent album from AC/DC . Legendary riffs , though I think it fades in quality a little bit from the previous Highway to Hell on this list.

One of the best selling albums of all time for good reason. The ability for this band to bounce back after such a terrible fate of losing a personable a front man is incredible. These songs and riffs were extremely prevalent during my childhood and this album is still nostalgic to all those times playing guitar with my father.

best come back album of all time

A classic riff-tactic album. I bought the record the day it came out, these songs never get old. Brian Johnson's debut, fitted-in well with the band.

ACDC at their best

Well its AC/DC, how could I give it less than 5 stars. However there were a couple thing that I learned while listening to this album that I had not known before about AC/DC. 1. Did not know that Malcom and Angus were brothers OR that they were Scotish. 2 That the band is an Australian band. 3, that a former band member had died prior to this album and that the all black cover is a "sign of mourning" for Scott. Great album. Almost every single track on this is a hit! 5 stars.

It’s hard not to love this album if you have ever listened to classic rock radio. This album represented the first back after the death of Bon Scott and the replacement with Brian Johnson, whom has always fascinated me with his baritone speaking voice and alto-broken-glass singing voice (how does he do that?). Six of the fifteen tracks were hits. There are a few other tracks on other albums but this is pretty much a “best of” as is. It’s hard to pick a favorite but Rock’n’Roll Ain’t Noose Pollution and You Shook Me are tops, though I really enjoyed hearing the non-radio tracks like “Given the Dog a Bone”.

This is the Mona Lisa of cock rock. This is basically an AC/DC greatest hits album. I'm not by any means a huge AC/DC fan but this record is undeniable. There is a reason so many of the songs are still played today and even featured in Marvel movies. On this listen a few of the less played tracks jumped out at me: "What Do You Do for Money Honey", "Have a Drink on Me", and Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution". This should be a weekend staple for me!

Still sounding awesome

This one is an eleven-teen

From start to finish this is just good rock n roll. Easy to understand why this is the 2nd best selling album of all time. Not much to say except Rock n Roll Ain't Noise Pollution.

This is about as peak rock and roll as you get. Energetic, loud, memorable riffs with some great solos that tie together catchy songs. There's not a single miss on the album and you can listen through the entire thing while feeling like you're flying on a tiger made of lightening pissing on the world as you soar towards victory.

Back in Black is a thunderous, no-frills rock and roll masterpiece, a defiant return after tragedy and arguably the greatest comeback album ever made. AC/DC doesn’t reinvent the wheel here. Instead, they lock in, tighten every bolt, crank the volume, and unleash a record that has stood the test of time. Every riff feels razor-sharp, every chorus built for stadium-sized singalongs. The title track, “Have a Drink on Me,” and “You Shook Me All Night Long” are undisputed classics, but “Shoot to Thrill” is the standout. It is pure adrenaline, with Brian Johnson belting at his most electrifying and Angus Young tearing through solos like he has lightning in his veins. There is not a weak moment on this album. It is lean, it is mean, and it still sounds massive decades later. If rock has a blueprint for perfection, this is it. Favorite Song: “Shoot to Thrill”

One of the easiest 5 rankings ever! A tragic event that nearly breaks up the band, but despite that they record THE masterpiece record of their entire career instead. Easily one of the top 25 rock records of all time. The band that defined the pub rock genre. A masterclass of pure rock. My absolute favorites "Hells Bells", "Shoot to Thrill", "Black in Black", "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Givin the Dog a Bone". "and "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution".

"Back in Black" en fait partie. Un an. "Back in Black". Hells Bells. Ça commence par un glas. Lent, lourd, funèbre. On enterre Bon. "Back in Black", "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Shoot to Thrill"…

One of the best albums of all time, one song better than the other. Hells Bells is the song of my favourite football team and is used as they enter the stadium before the game. Go PAOK!

Full of the best songs of AC/DC for the new era and what a banger it is. This album could even be called Greatest Hits.

I’m ready to run my head through 70 fucking walls while screaming at the top of my lungs the lyrics to this album!!!!

A 55 year old woman with a corporate job, in a company car, throwing devil horns in a traffic jam on the A45. I am the worst type of cliché 👍🏻

I don't think there's a more quintessentially "rock and roll" album than this. Every track is an absolute ass-kicker. Simple but effective and powerful riffs and beats that just make you want to dance. An absolute must-listen for rock enjoyers, or people who just want to head bang

iconic rock classic

This is an easy 5/5, I would constantly listen to this album. Absolute perfection of rock and roll.

Ef það er einhver hljómsveit og einhver plata sem kemur manni í gott stuð þá er það AC/DC og Back in Black. Þetta er algjört meistaraverk. Ég þurfti svo mikið á þessari plötu að halda ákkúrat núna að ég get ekki annað en gefið henni fimm stjörnur. Takk fyrir að keyra mig í gang.

One of the classic rock albums. The bells sound so good in Hell”s Bells. On to the back side and Back in Black and You Shook Me All Night Long. All songs for the ages and a great quality recording to boot. In particular, Back in Black sounds fresh even by today standards.

AC/DC is one of those bands that is starting to become overplayed for me like Queen or ABBA, but haven't gotten there quite yet. Incredibly strong opening track in 'Hells Bells' with a really sick guitar riff. 'You Shook Me All Night Long' and 'Back In Black' are also really good tracks, probably some of AC/DC's most famous ones. To manage to get those 3 songs on an album is a feat in itself. I think other songs like 'Givin the Dog a Bone' and 'Shoot To Thrill' are pretty good as well, even though they don't reach the same high. In other words, it's an album with a high lowest bar, but with very high highs. One slight issue I have with the album is that the songs can sometimes feel a bit too similar somehow. AC/DC certainly has a style, and it shows. Maybe it's similar chord progressions or something, can't exactly put my finger on it. Other than that it's a good album and definitely belongs up there on the list as some of the better albums.

Man this is a good album. I never thought I'd give AC/DC a 5 star but here we are. "Hells Bells" works great as an intro with the church bells and all. Never thought the long intro was particularly good but listening to it as an album made the whole thing fall into place. "Shoot to Thrill" is a great follow-up. After that it is a bit of a lull before the two real heavy hitters come back to back with "Back to Black" and maybe my favourite AC/DC song "You Shook me All Night Long". I still remember sitting in a biker bar (not my crowd, my friend was a regular) in a button up shirt feeling self-concousious with a big Hell's Angels guy and his girlfriend in a leather corset sharing our table. When "You Shook me All Night Long" came on, biker dudes girlfriend starts to dance around the table and I did my best to squarely stare at my friend. Honestly, this is just a fun album that makes me want to ride motorbikes, drink lagers and wear leather. It's not that interesting musically but it doesn't need to be. It's just a fun listen. So what if all AC/DC songs mostly sound the same, they really caught lightning in a bottle with this one.

It was good

It's a true classic filled what great songs!

The epitome of hard rock and roll.

Borrowed the LP from Tom for anther listen but there was never any doubt that this would get a 5 stars.

Absolute cracker. How did they fit all this on one album.

Hell yes. I'm so glad I'm past that cynical phase where I hated popular stuff for no reason. Dad rock to its core, its simple, loud and fun. You Shook Me All Night Long will probably remain my favorite AC/DC track but this whole album is full. Of greats. I have a distinct memory of my boomer dad and uncles mime-playing guitars on pool cues at a pool hall to Back In Black that will remain with me forever, so thanks AC/DC!

Oh fuck yeah bud! “You Shook Me All Night Long” and “Shoot to Thrill” are killer songs There’s a reason people go through an AC/DC phase when they’re first getting into rock music. It’s super accessible, simple music with big drums, even bigger guitars and lyrics screeched by a grown man with the voice of a harpy. Lyrics about the devil and Hell. Just awesome stuff. This is their best album hands down

Simply awesome!

A classic. One of those rock and roll significant achievements and noteworthy recordings.

Indisputably one of the greatest albums of hard/metal rock and one of the best-selling records ever worldwide. Lyric-wise it is often quite primitive, sexist, and testosterone-filled. They could have sung some senseless gibberish and it would still be as successful as it is, as long as the crowd could sing/shout the refrain.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest rock records of all time

Bad ass rock n roll. Mic drop.

The zeitgeist of Rock n roll, and the poster boy of Marshall stacks. These riffs will live on in perpetuity and will always border ironic rock, but was executed so crisply that it will never fade to obscurity. This yelling can feel overdone, but respects the medium. There is absolutely a time and place for this music, and it will always elevate the sports game, backyard barbecues, or late night bar scenes. When these tracks blast over a decent stereo system, you feel them. They are electric. The album is a piece of art, not for everyone to enjoy, but speaks volumes to the masses.

Does it pass the 'take the tracks everyone knows out' test - absolutely. Though not the equal of the peerless four monsters (Bells, title track, Rock and Roll, Shook) the other tracks on this album are all great examples of peak DC boogie.

Quality

LET ME CUT YOUR CAKE WITH MY KNIFE So great to listen to this complete cheesefest again.

Hervorragendes Album. Davon kann man wirklich jedes Stück hören.

Even I gotta recognize a deserved classic of the genre. Some head banging joy with the windows open in the car today.

Hmmmm....I don't think that I am supposed to like Back in Black, but I did. Not something that I will wake up craving, I don't think. But I appreciated rocking out tonight!

"Rock and roll ain't no riddle, man. To me it makes good, good sense." Crank it!

This album was so ubiquitous when I was in junior high and high school that I’m sure I heard the whole thing in pieces. At that time this sort of music wasn’t really something I could appreciate so listening to the whole album willingly wasn’t really on the table. Some 40+ years late to the party, I’m in love with this album! “Shoot to Thrill” is exactly the kind of driving rock that somehow makes me want too many women with too many pills. This is one of those albums that makes me want to add “bangers” to my vocabulary. On second thought, maybe its better that I waited until I was in my 50s to get into this… I had a blast today rockin’ out to AC/DC. Terrific!

Fuck yeah

Magnificent!

Great classic rock.

One of, if not the best, albums I have ever purchased. When you are young and trying to figure out what your individual taste in music is and you hear this. You feel it deep in your soul and know all will be right in the world as long as you have rock.

Haven’t heard much hard rock, but I’m certainly interested after this album

While this album drops off a lot after the top two songs, "Back in Black" might just be the greatest rock song of all time. It's got 1.5 billion streams on Spotify. And the rest of the album is still good. 5 stars.

One of the best!

No explanation needed

Just banger after banger

Desde "Hells Bells" hasta Rock 'n' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" pasando por «Shoot to Thrill», «What Do You Do for Money Honey», "You Shook Me All Night Long" y "Back in Black", es un manual de rock tan básico como efectivo, lleno de rifs para escuchar a todo volumen. Únicos e irrepetibles, ¿Su mejor disco? ¿Qué más da? Simplemente, dale al play y disfruta. Otros discos excelentes de 1980 fueron (al margen de London Calling que uno no sabe si ponerlo en 1979 o en 1980) los de Joy Division, Talking Heads, The B-52´s, The Cramps, Bauhaus, Echo and the Bunnymen, Bruce Springsteen, OMD, The Police, Kurtis Blow, Diana Ross, The Feelies, Peter Gabriel, Prince Genesis, Adam and the Ants, Van Morrison, David Bowie, Paul McCartney o Siouxise and the Banshees...

Legendary riffs. Legendary vocals. Legendary album

A masterpiece of in-your-face rock. Despite an utter lack of surprise, and no matter how many thousands of times you hear these songs, it’s still and forever one of the best pump-up discs ever put together.

I listened to this album a couple of days ago while working in the yard. I was never a huge AC/DC fan yet bought this album many years ago since my collection was not complete without it. This is just basic rock 'n roll with juvenile lyrics and basic musicianship executed at an incredibly high level. "What Do You Do for Money Honey" is one of my favorite songs on this album and it was not a huge hit. The first seven songs are all classics and even the last three songs are not as good but also not a huge drop in quality. Just because four of the ten songs are classics then I would have to recommend this album very highly.

Solid Rock 'n roll. Just great!

Great album

Brought back some fun memories.

I love AC/DC and listen to a lot of their music but I never listened to this album in full. There was a lot of tracks I recognized but I think all of these songs were absolute hits. It’s hard to choose but I think my favorites are Hells Bells and What do you do for money honey. Will definitely listen again!

The band once said they recorded the same album every time. Luckily it's a damn good one.

Obviously one of the best records ever.

One of the greatest albums of my childhood. 5/5

It’s a classic. I was already familiar with a few songs it was consistent all the way through without getting stale. It’s the kind of music that requires the right time and the right place, that being any time and any place.

amazing album, all great tracks, no skips, an absolute classic

Rating: 9.5/10 A classic, one the greatest hard rock albums of all time. This album is the definition of power in simplicity. Each song is so infectious and groovy; the band plays with so much energy and passion which translates so well despite its simplicity. Brian Johnson's voice matches perfectly with the rest of the band to create an amazing album from start to finish. It is a little repetitive but the songwriting makes up for this tenfold. RIP Bon Scott. Favorite songs: pretty much all of them. Least favorite song: Let Me Put My Love Into You.

An album packed with energy and memories. First album with Brian Johnson and he did well. I remember seeing the band when they toured for the Back in Black album. I couldn’t hear for days afterwards!

I own this album in every form possible and can sing it cover to cover. It was one of the first pieces of music I ever bought and I taught myself guitar by listening to it. My tastes in music have changed since I was that 11 year old kid but this will forever be 5 stars

Va beh, questo ce l'ho in macchina 🤷🏻‍♂️

The death of a lead singer is the end of most bands, and Bon left big Shoes to fill. But Brian stepped up, bringing a straight to the gut approach that fit perfectly with the hard rock of the band. This is dumb fun and it is just so damn good at it. Grab a beer, turn it up and rock on.

Iconic album, I first heard the title track in a skate video. First time listening to it front to back.

This is a stupidly good album 11/10

One of my favorite bands from the land down under. AC/DC reminds me of home with all its old school metal heads. I love this album so much, I listened five times & even dreamed of Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution. Listening while driving rocked especially hard. 5 stars.

Amazing.

No real weak point on this one.

Big dumb rock music at it's biggest and dumbest. Impossible to not crush a sixer of lager during this album's 45ish minutes of play time

Insanely catchy rock n roll

I still get chills when I hear the opening to Hells Bells--arguably one of the most badass songs to open a rock album. Brian Johnson left no doubt that he would be an excellent singer and frontman in the wake of Bon Scott's passing. Angus Young's wild, memorable guitar licks and punk-schoolboy stage presence immediately conjured up by the bangers on this album only add to the enjoyment of this classic for me. I will absolutely admit that the music can get a bit similar from song to song, but AC/DC's anthemic, don't-give-a-shit approach to writing crunchy, teeth-gritting bangers is on full display here. You want bone-shaking rock 'n roll that has immense replay value? Look no further than Back in Black. Interesting Factoids from Wikipedia: *According to Angus Young, the album's all-black cover was a "sign of mourning" for (deceased former AC/DC frontman Bon) Scott. Atlantic Records disliked the cover, but accepted it, on the condition that the band put a grey outline around the AC/DC logo. Album standouts: Hells Bells, Shoot To Thrill, Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Have a Drink on Me, Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution

all the dads going crazy rn

Greatest “comeback” album in rock history

This might be the perfect heavy rock album.

Old but gold anthems Shrieked over rock solid riffs Feel badass feel good

Classic banger. Never listened to the whole thing, but it’s crazy the amount of cool melodies they made

A classic, not a bad track on here imo

Solid album, pretty classic. Iron Man really solidified it in the public zeitgeist.

Great AC/DC album beginning to end. Back in Black, Hells Bells, Shoot to Thrill, Have a Drink on Me. Just a classic and a really solid hard rock album.

Makes me want to funnel a beer

Rocks so hard! 5/5

Sure, some of the lyrics are a little silly once you get beyond being 16; they ain’t writing Shakespeare here, but damn if it ain’t a fun time. The Angus brothers bring it and Brian Johnson deserves props for relatively seamlessly replacing Bon Scott’s growl effectively. Love it for being wholeheartedly what it is: pure Rock ‘n’ Roll!

A damn classic. 12 stars.

I know the album and I have it so I did not listen to it online

AC/DC is the purest rock band. They don’t want you to think they’re cool, or suave, or profound. They just want to rock. They don’t live in a world in which pop music is a sacred art and pop musicians are poets. They say it themselves: rock and roll is just rock and roll. Nobody’s going to write a 10 paragraph review that reframes the history of their own youth through the lens of an inflated importance of Back in Black. Why would they? Back in Black doesn’t have that much to say. They write worse Spinal Tap lyrics than Spinal Tap does, because the lyrics just don’t matter that much, beyond being a small part of the rockin. I put this one on knowing I love it, but thinking it may have a 4 star ceiling (mostly because I prefer Bon). Before the end of the first song I had turned my little speaker all the way up. Come on man. 5 Stars. Easy.

Yep, this is about as good as it gets in this Genre.

I’m maybe a little biased because every song reminds me of some of the most fun times in my life, but fuck it man - this shit rips!

10/10 beautiful in every way

Hells bells Shoot to thrill🔥 Let me put my love into you Back in black You shook me all night long Have a drink on me Oh come on. What a classic. Between Angus Young and Phil Rudd this album is great. Idk if it’s the nostalgia or what but I’ll never get enough. The vocals are iconic

Fuckin badass

Must buy this record... I've heard one or two songs from it in the past, but wasn't aware how brilliant it is. On my record wishlist now!

Solid as a rock, with flawless production and a great mix of classic songs and less well-known tracks. A band I imagined would have lots of filler on their albums, but I didn't spot any here!

Great album.

Oh wow. This is all the AC/DC I know except Thunderstruck. Amazing that it all came from this album. Rock on.

Feel good rock and roll from start to end 🤘

I know that AC/DC's songs all kinda sound true same, but I do like that one song

hells bells good start :-)

The perfect soundscape for driving through the home of the 101st ABN DIV in my truck. It may be overplayed, but man, this album has some incredible guitar licks!

A monumental album in the classic rock genre, and an import turning point in AC/DC's sound and style. Brian Johnson screams onto the scene in a huge way, his raspy and piercing vocals soaring over the tight mid-boosted saturated distortion of Angus Young's trademark SG, and mixing well with the scooped EQ of Malcolm Young's Gretsch. Bass and drums are tight and punchy as always, but the band departs from their pub-rock goofiness and catapults directly into the stadium-rock sound that's so emblematic of their later years. Songs don't have a ton of diversity, mostly repeating the title track as a chorus and letting Angus drop-kick a solo, but AC/DC has never needed more. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of the band's Bon Scott era, and miss the irreverent Australian humor and bagpipes that came with him, but the band's recovery and forward movement after his untimely death is incredible. This album is the first step on that journey, and it's a perfect record in that regard. Stand out tracks include "Hells Bells", "Shoot to Thrill", "Back in Black", "You Shook Me All Night Long", and "Have a Drink on Me".

I used to be in love with this album back in middle school. Just pure 80s hard rock. It's a very iconic album and easily ACDC's best. Unfortunately as I got older I fell out of love of their work a bit. I realized how much of it is all sexual innuendos and that weirded me out (something I recognized originally but not fully until adulthood). Plus the songs are not very complex in terms of composition. Regardless, I'm giving this album a 5 because it holds a special place in my heart. Lost of nostalgia tied to this one.

I am not the world's biggest AC/DC fan, but sheesh, this is just non-stop classic rock songs. There is only one miss on the list, and more than 4 or 5 all timers.

Brought me back to high school, especially the sounds of the rock 'n roll burnouts, hanging out by their busted cars. It proves that great musicians (which AC/DC all are) can produce excellent music of any genre, including rock.

I’ve been looking forward to this one! An instant classic. Roaring guitar hooks backed with precise-yet-grungy bass playing, solid drumming, and electrifying vocals that take the band that huge step further into the land of classic rock giants. This album, while not exactly exploring many genres, contains a wide array of incredibly catchy riffs that I caught onto and loved immediately each time. It felt like one track after another of pure rock energy that made me feel pumped, excited, ecstatic, and high on something illegal and unidentifiable. I would probably categorise this as a hype album; there are definitely times where it would be inappropriate to play this, but if you’re having a good time already, you can’t go wrong with some goshdarn Back In Black. (I hit the sack.) Key tracks: Hells Bells, What Do You Do For Money Honey, Givin the Dog a Bone, Back In Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution (tl;dr: all of them are key tracks, basically)

Perfect in songs, execution and production.

Get fucking tanked. Shag loads of women. Twat your rivals. Shred tasty licks. Masterpiece.

Very good album from AC/DC. A presentation of why AC/DC is one of the GOAT after Bon Scott's death.

This is basically the soundtrack to every high school highlight tape from the early 80s up until infinity. If you have an old VHS tape gathering dust of Eureka High Football 1994, I sure as shit guarantee there is some “Hells Bells” and “Back in Black” on there. Just a certified hard-on for anyone who ever ran out of a locker room ready to knock the living crap out of your cross-town rival. For all the mumblecore rap and diluted rock they play for tunnel buildups and pregame hype nowadays, this is the raw dope — the Heisenberg snort that just hits harder than anything you’ve ever sniffed.

Already a smile while it appears on the site… A one which you must have really heard before you die!

Say what you will about AC/DC... But this band has some of the most iconic songs and guitar riffs ever. Especially on this album. It may be a perfect AC/DC record. There isn't one bad song on here. Yeah, you can argue the similarities between their songs amongst their whole discography... There is the old saying that Angus Young only knows 3 chords. He has addressed this too, you know.. in fact, he says he knows 4 chords. Haha! AC/DC has kind of written the same record over and over... But it's good rock and roll. And they are still going strong. They're still rocking out like they're young. If it wasn't for how well crafted they are: They've got a great rhythm section, great guitar solos, as I mentioned before: iconic riffs, vocals are scratchy but Brian Johnson has a voice that is uniquely his. As Robert Plant is to Zeppelin, Brian Scott is to AC/DC (he's better than Bon Scott, in my opinion). This record is as awesome as it was when I heard it in my teens.

Literally every song has been played non-stop since 1980

Chalk full of bangers. Not one bad song

You shock me all night long.

Exceptional album heavy raw

Absolute classic! One of the best rock albums…..EVER!

Still one of the most impressive albums ever made. Absolute classic. ‘Shoot To Thrill’ is an absolute highlight. Having seen AC/DC a number of times, I can confirm they are world class!

As exciting as the first time I heard it. A classic album! Love every second of this

Classic rock album. Fun, crude, badass, driving, quality. S-Tier: Hells Bells, Shoot To Thrill, Back In Black, You Shook Me A-Tier: The rest

Fantastic album for classic rock

I actually got into this... packed with hits that everyone knows. It also got me thinking "why do I enjoy this yet despise Guns and Roses despite a similar vocal profile?". I think partly because the overall sound of AC/DC seems to be a little lower/heavier whereas GnR tends to lean higher/screechier. I also feel like Brian Johnson sings in support/service of the song... whereas Axl sings because he wants to BE the song.

“Back in Black” is such an amazing album—not only because it contains their most iconic song (the title track). And not just because it has my favorite AC/DC song, “You Shook Me All Night Long.” But because I don’t know of any other band replacing their lead singer with such success, at least not like they did. Everyone who loves the Bon Scott era loves the Brian Johnson era too (Van Halen wishes…). To go from the tragic loss of their lead singer to their most successful album is nothing short of incredible! “But the all their songs are the same!” Yes, and that one song is awesome!

I'm more of a Bon Scott AC/DC guy, but this album still rules. Banger after banger.

I listened to this on a run and found myself almost sprinting during Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution.

Ah ok I get the hype.

All the tracks basically sound the same, which is to say this whole album makes me want to rock out with my cock out.

Classics. I am a little sick of most of these songs but it is still an epic album. Bonus points for a new vocalist somehow crushing it on the first album.

Needs no intro

I'd rate it higher if I could, every song on this is a banger. Also given the context of when this album came out, after Bon Scott died, AC/DC came back on fire!

This album has so many huge hits that have stood the test of time. This is a band that knows exactly who it is, and is 100% it all the time.

I've long said that the best job in rock & roll belonged to Malcolm Young (RIP). All he had to do was play three chords, shake that big greasy mop of hair, and occasionally step up to the mic to bellow "Oy!" Pretty much a perfect hard rock album from start to finish. I remember as a kid being actually frightened by AC/DC. There's just so much carefree menace here. Hell, the fact that You Shook Me is on the back half of the album just illustrates how killer this whole thing is. Side 2 of the original album is pretty much flawless. No unexpected banger here. They're all bangers. Well, except for Let Me Put My Love Into You -- which is the weakest entry. And even that's better than 90% of rock and roll.

One of my favorite albums and bands. Absolutely love AC/DC! Takes me way back to high school.

Best of the AC/DC albums in my opinion. I know purists frown on anything after Bon Scott died but this record has everything the band is known for -- high energy, memorable hooks, great guitar licks and that driving beat. It crosses the boundary of heavy metal into mainstream rock and is one of the best selling albums of all time for a reason. A classic.

So much fun

A favorite from my teens

A great album. Has multiple hits on one record which is a very rare find.

It amazes me that they were able to follow their breakthrough LP (Highway to Hell) with this rocker. All while mourning their lead singer and replacing him with an equally capable member. What a whirlwind year that must've been! 5/5

What an incredible album and intro of Brian Johnson to the group. Big shoes for him to fill and he knocked it out of the park!

Absolute classics. I’ve listened to this more times than I can count. What more can be said.

Classic. A big part of my youth.

Great heavy metal rock! A classic!

LOVE IT!

- Das beste AC/DC album - 3/4 meiner Favourites von den Herren (inkl. meinem Lieblingssong von AC/DC „You Shook Me All Night Long“) - Für die große musikalische Variabilität und Bandbreite waren sie noch nie bekannt, aber wenn man sich damit abfindet, ist es großartig und macht einfach unfassbar viel Spaß!! - „Geheimtipp“: Das sehr coole und im Refrain fast soulige / Blues-Brothers-mäßige „Let Me Put My Love Into You Babe“ - Insgesamt stringent und rund und halt nicht umsonst eines der größten (Hard-)Rockalben aller Zeiten Rating: 4,75/5

10/10 Album, still holds up even 40+ years later. Standout Tracks: Hells Bells, Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long

God among men of albums and for good reason. Solid music, catchy lyrics, and a charm that just oozes out of every instrument

Such a classic rock album. A lot of critics would say that AC/DC makes repetitive popular music but who cares?!? AC/DC sounds well produced and has some really catchy “safe” rock songs and that’s ok! I agree that it is a little bit safe and not experimental but too bad it’s what the band makes and they are good at what they do. I don’t care what music “experts” say about this album it’s a complete banger.

AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC! Made me very happy to see this one today. Listened a few times and it's always great. Especially as I'm in Australia rn. Made me feel so good whilst job hunting.

One of the classics of Rock ‘n’ roll

The way its put together, the riffs and how well AC/DC bounced back after Bon Scott dies, makes it a classic. Loved the songs which refer to Scott’s death, and how the band did not let it affect their music. Also loved the fact that it wasn’t a super long album, but really tight and well put together. I want to give it a 4.5/5, but since I can’t do that, it deserves a 5!

I, hm, y'know... AC/DC checks all the boxes of Dad Rock, and as much as I like to dismiss groups for that... man, this album actually really fucking rips, to a degree I wasn't at all ready for

All-time top 10 for me.

Classic!

I'd say AC/DC are the extension of what Chuck Berry did with the Blues or Rhythem and Blues. It's high energy fun music. I wonder, if Bon Scott had survived, would they have progressed into something more metal and a little darker. This album is for sure a rock and roll album. I think the vocal style can throw one off, but a lot of this is the Blues being played at a faster speed.. Hells Bells feels like something, different but Shoot to Thrill and the following tracks are rock and roll. It's got solid production and it's a good album. It doesn't say anything special, but it can help burn some energy.

Damn that is good Stuff

Quality album from a great band!

Total classic. 5 stars.

As soon as this was revealed, it was a straight 5 stars. A brilliant album. Hells Bells as an opener is sublime. Funny that the last two songs are real down to basics Rock 'n' Roll. The track Back in Black is so snappy and so pure AC/DC. A happy 5

Such a good album. It goes to 11.

Excellent- one of my all-time favorite rock albums!

AC/DC are the all time supreme heavy weight champions of "all killer, no filler" albums

classic

5... ALL night long

Bangarz

a classic. Highway to Hell was a great album w Bon. This one was the most commercial, and was a great intro to new singer and new era.

I have this one, I love it!

Solid gold

This album transports me right back to my sophomore year in high school...in a really visceral way! I can almost smell the keg parties!

Rock and roll ain't noise pollution is so satisfying to hear. Hells bells. Shoot to thrill. Back in Black. You shook me all night long. Giving the dog a bone is probably the worst song on it, but they all sound like AC/DC and it doesn't really suck -- feels like more of a more sex joke song to me at this point in my life -- but I feel like this album is still a 5. The album is even tighter than I remembered from loving this as a kid.

Electrifying

I don’t hate AC/DC. I just never care to hear them again. I’m not gonna rate this album lower just because I’ve heard it so much it makes me physically ill. There’s a reason it’s held to the status it is in rock n roll history.

Iconic album. Consistent from start to finish. So many hits. Definitely a must listen - even if you're not into them.

Classic

Znakomite i ponadczasowe

I have loved this album for 25 years. It rules.

Have this album on both CD and vinyl. Classic. Hells Bells is such a great opener. Banger after banger. 5/5.

A real classic…! Not a bad song on this album. The great compriffs by Malcom and the Lovely solos from Angus all comibined by the great voice of Brian. Love this masterpiece.

What can I say. Every song rips

The perfect hard rock album. No notes, wouldn’t change a thing. Best song: You Shook Me All Night Long

Clássico e pa, já curtia das antigas

One of my favorites. Solid all the way through.

What an awesome album. Already a huge fan of the title track, but really enjoyed "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "Hells Bells." Can't wait to hear Highway to Hell

the best one of ac/dc

This album makes me want to go to a kegger out in the woods and maybe get into a fist fight.

The best studio album from the group outside of a greatest hits album. You like rock? We’ll, here it is!

Thought to be one of the best rock bands of all time and with this album you can see why. All the songs were amazing, the composition, the vocals gives all the classic 80s rock feel. Wouldn't say there were any stand out tracks as all of them were so good, although this album does contain the iconic song Back In Black.

El classico

Great album, nothing more to add

This was the first AC/DC that I heard. My sister's friend had a dance party and I was friends with that person's younger sister who was allowed to invite a couple of people. I remember this coming on. It felt alive and dangerous in a way that I hadn't experienced before in music. Is it my favorite AC/DC album of all time? I don't know, it depends on the day. But it's always 5 stars and welcome to my ears.

Goes hard af.

Just a great album. Knows it's classic rock and executes it perfectly. Brian does well in the heels.

I don't think I've ever listened to an album that's had so many songs so prevalently played on the radio. Bangers all the way through.

Have listened to this a billion times. Great heavy rock. Love every single song, even if BIB has been played to death

Absolutely great album of strong solid rock music with lyrics and pulsating energy. Easy to listen to, easy to move to. Just great. Reputation is sullied by being a stereotype of itself, but putting that societal story aside, as music in and of itself, its excellent, high repeat value, hard to get tired of, and I can see it being part of my regular go-to albums going forward.

FINALLY A GOD TIER ALBUM

Like Led Zep, but louder.

A favourite and a classic. What else can you say that hasn't been said already?

Just perfect for the time and place.

One of the best rock albums top to bottom. Period.

yall u know i already know this, baller album tho

I like this album. This album is mid-80's hard rock, early mid-80's heavy metal.

I mean... whats not to love?

HELL YEAH ROCK

Classic. Hit after hit after hit

I mean, cmon, doesn't get much more "classic rock" than this. Defined a genre/era 5 - All-time classic

Absolutely amazing album. I'd never heard it completely and never thought it'd be so great. Starts with an absolute banger of a song and keep flowing from there. Amazing

Those Aussies can kick it

Instant classic, still as powerful as always, Hard Rock 101

Quintessential nostalgia album. Also, I'll never be able to separate Hell's Bells from Trevor Hoffman's stint with the Milwaukee Brewers. Good times.

I keep forgetting that Shoot to Thrill is my favorite AC/DC song.

All killer, no filler. Not an ounce of flab. ‘Back In Black’ is all the best bits of every AC/DC album up to that point distilled into a stone cold classic about hard rocking, hard fucking, loose women and drinking. The rhythm section is tight, the guitar work is impressive, the hooks are memorable and the songs, well they are anthemic. Not many have done it better or kicked more ass than AC/DC did with ‘Back In Black’.

About half are all time classics and the other half isn’t too shabby either. Rating 4.5

Enjoyable blast from the past

Rarrrgh

All songs are amazing!

Every song is about shagging, rocking, or being a badass. Every song is simple but powerful. Honestly, if Cobra Kai were an album, it's this. STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD. NO MERCY.

timeless classic

4 of the most iconic rock songs all time on one album!

One of the greatest rock albums of all time

Such a great album, good tracks from start to finish, it’s hard for me to find something to criticize, might even be my favorite album from AC/DC

So many musicians I adore and respect count AC/DC as one of their favorites. But I never got it. I'm ignoring the "every album sounds the same" refrain, which has been talked about to death in the case of AC/DC. This is one of the most confident records I have ever heard. Every guitar lick, every base and drum line, every lyric exudes confidence. It's a confidence that so many bands try to front, but very few actually convey. This record is also really well put togeather. The songwriting is tight, there is zero time waste, and it sounds great. This record really benefits from listening with good speakers or headphones. It's getting a high score from me even though it's not really my style. I also should mention that I spent the rest 9f the day listening to other record from AC/DC. Their career really came out banging at the start. It's crazy. It totally belongs high on this list and I'm super glad I heard this one. Before today, I only knew the hits.

LOVE the dramatic opening of church bells on the first track, Hells Bells. It's like a good opening sentence of a good book. You know you're in for a treat! Hard rock is definitely not a genre I typically dabble in. However, I realized while listening to this album that I knew a few AC/DC songs without knowing they're by AC/DC. You Shook Me All Night Long is an example. The title track, Back in Black, is one of my faves! I was introduced to it via an early hip hop sample (Dope Beat by Boogie Down Productions). I remember many years later, I heard Back in Black for the first time and I loved it just as much as I loved the BDP sample. The lead singer is giving great vocals too. Sometimes hard rock sounds like screaming to me. This guy, Bon Scott (RIP) from what Google tells me, has a decent falsetto. I will say, I can only take so much hard rock at once. All the songs start sounding alike to me. I think that's why Back in Black, the track, stands out. It has such a distinct melody. Completely different from all the other tracks on the album. Let Me Put My Love Into You also. After the first four tracks, it comes in like a somewhat calmer intermission, leading us into the album's second act, which starts with Back in Black (again, my fave on the album and probably of all the hard rock songs I've ever heard). But then, Have a Drink on Me takes us right back to the energy from the top of the album, which is typical of the hard rock I've been exposed to. And Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution, a cool song to end on, has a good driving melody like Back in Black and Let Me Put My Love. No skips on this album. If I were to recommend hard rock to someone who, like me, isn't all that familiar, I'd tell them to listen to this one.

Great album. Love the riffs

Amazing

Incredible and legendary album.

A classic, obviously

Such a great rock album. One of the best of all time.

One of the greatest arena rock albums ever. No wasted tracks.

I know this album I like it.

Great album that reminds me of my dad, comfort album I grew up listening to.

No misses, great album!

I like to think of myself as somebody with at least halfway thoughtful musical takes and fairly diverse interests. But, there will always be something about hard rock that will make automatically fall into "FUCK YEAH" mode. And I think it's beautiful that music has the ability to do that to me as well. Favorite track: Hell's Bells

A stone-cold classic that has aged very well. It is amazing that this is Brian Johnson's debut with AC DC (following Bon Scott's death). Yes, some of the lyrics are cringe-worth, but the enduring power of this music is undeniable. Angus Young's riffs and solos are uniformly outstanding, and the combination of hard rock and pop created a template that bands are following to this day.

Just absolute banger after banger. It’s rare that a band can come back with a new singer and be just as good if not better than before. “Back in Black” has to be one of the greatest rock and roll riffs of all time. Easy 5.

From the very first notes you know that this is an amazing record. Timeless classic.

Every song is a banger. The whole album pushes Hard Rock to the perfect level. The riffs, easy to sing along to, it’s just a brilliant album.

Another Classic. Maximum Rock n Roll.

AC/DC gets me so fired up, such a great pump up band. Super fun guitar riffs, solos, chord progressions, and an iconic voice to sing along to. This band is able to have so much fun with their recordings, and they bring so much energy to every song, it just feels contagious. AC/DC and I are flying on the same level. Fave tracks: Hells Bells, What Do You Do for Money Honey, Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Have a Drink on Me

Wat een album, all killer no filler. Geweldige nummers, en gitaarsolo’s. Simpel maar doeltreffend!

Out of 1001 albums there are only 70 albums that I have given 5 stars to. This is one of them. Out of those 70 there are maybe 5 or 6 that I would consider the absolute best and give them a ranking above all the other (call them a 6 rating out of 5, or a 5+...whatever you want to call it.) THIS is one of those albums. It was phenomenal when it was released and it has stayed strong over the 43 years since its release. Ultimate Classics: Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long and Hell's Bells. Other Standouts: Shoot to Thrill, Given The Dog A Bone, Have a Drink on Me, and What Do You Do For Money Honey. Still other great tracks: Let Me Put My Love Into You, and Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution. Yes. That's every song on the album. Classic among classics! Crem de la crem!

So much fun to re-listen!

The energy and the music quality starts high and stays there the whole album -- not a bad or boring song in the batch!

This is for sure one of the top albums from this era of hard rock. Top Tier

This album is EPIC. I don’t really know what else to say about it. It just punches you in the mouth from start to finish and features some of the best rock n roll the world has to offer.

Wow, lot of deep cuts on this album. I don't think I have heard of it before... Seriously, I had a friend in college who was a big AC/DC fan. We went to see them back in the day. Let's just say it was... an experience. My biggest thing about them is that none of their albums have (at least to me) any marked difference. The songs are fairly interchangeable in that they could be on any one album, there's no progression of their sound. But man, that sound kicks some serious ass. You can't play this stuff at a volume any lower than 11. And the lyrics... let's face it, Gloria Steinem is not going to be singing any of this stuff any time soon. "Givin' the Dog A Bone," "Let Me Put My Love Into You," "She Shook Me All Night Long." Not for the faint of heart. I have students who told me that their least favorite band is AC/DC. I wish I had asked them to elaborate. Most of the negative reviews I scanned quickly don't really elaborate. The lyrics are simple? I mean, come on, you take any song lyrics out of context any they sound like bad poetry. Are the lyrics hyper-masculine? Sure, they're a bunch of rocker guys who want to party. What are you expecting? It's an undeniable album. Completely and totally.

I saw Destiny's Child's Survivor was next so I rated it first. Didn't want to be swayed by how much I love rock and love this album in rating those girls. But one thing I said about Survivor is there are incredible rock albums with throwaway lyrics and Back in Black was exactly what I meant. Sex, drugs (or booze), and rock & roll - that's all this album is about. Nothing deeper than that. And it kicks serious ass. A classic for a reason. Still amazed how they pulled this off when Bon Scott had died just a few months before. It's all about the energy - both new boy Johnson on vocals and Angus and the gang on instruments. The riffs and beats are super catchy. But deft enough to admire their musicianship. So many incredible intros too that just suck you right in - Shoot to Thrill, Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Shake a Leg (maybe their sneakiest best after the first verse). They may not have another 5-star album in their collection but this one is 5+. I don't know how you cannot bang your head to the beats.
