Just awful
Subject to a few exceptions, I tend to not like shouting vocals being shouted/screamed. That, coupled with the samey-ness of the album meant I found it extremely boring (not to mention offensive in some places - you all know to what I am referring although I'm sure some people would just try and pass it off as "banter" between friends).
I can only assume this is on the list because it is a concept album and it is by The Who. Personally, I don't think those criteria alone are sufficient qualifications for it making the list. This is unusual to the point of making it inaccessible for me. Sure, there are glimpses of The Who's talent here and there but, overall, this is well below average.
I fully appreciate that Bob Dylan is a marmite artist, but what can I say other than I love marmite.
This gets an extra star because there are a few good tracks on here. However, the filler between these good tracks is pretty weak.
I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. Don't get me wrong, I like the Queen stuff I have heard, but I don't think I had ever listened to an actual Queen album before that wasn't a "greatest hits" compilation.
I’m a big TWOD fan and I think this, along with the album A Deeper Understanding, is their best work. The close out track “In Reverse” is a perfect end to a truly fantastic album and, while I would (and do) listen to it in isolation sometimes, it always hits harder when listened to as part of a whole album start to finish listen.
Musically, this is fine. However, I’m not sure why it makes the 1001 list and I can’t imagine ever listening to it again.
Went in thinking this had one star written all over it. If my rating took account of my view of the artist as a person, it would be. However, taking the album on its own, there really are some great tracks.
Heroes is a 5 star track. But one good track does not an album make.
Loved it.

Shouting and screaming over noise. No thanks.
Safe as Milk is great; this is awful. However, I do respect the willingness to produce something so inaccessible that even a lot of your own fans rubbish it. 1 star for the listening experience; 5 stars for not giving a rats ass and producing it anyway.
Why?
Great first half, but pretty average second half (other than Praise You).
No doubt this album has been massively influential. But, do I like it? No, not really, other than Express Yourself (which is great and drags this up a whole star on its own).
When one review indicated "Bangers a-plenty", I had high hopes. What a shame that "Bangers" seems to be a reference to the people engaging in sex acts that Missy "sings" about, rather than the quality of those tracks.
If you "get it" then, genuinely, I think that's great. I don't, and found it inaccessible, pretentious and not at all enjoyable to listen to.
Review based on the music only!
Electronica? If the vocals were samples and were deployed sparingly, I could accept that classification. In my view this is not electronica and it gives it a bad name. If you want to listen to some good examples of this genre there are plenty. The Propellerheads’ one album decksdrumsandrockandroll, for example.
5 stars for being weird. Unfortunately, that is not the measure for rating the albums here. That said, I don't regret listening to it; I just won't listen to it ever again.
For the music only. If I were rating Clapton as a human it would be a negative score.
