Maybe not a perfect album. But close. 4.5
Wonderwall, morning glory peak
yes
Their 1st album reminded me of a time in high-school when you go see your friend's band compete in the local radio station's Battle of the Bands and they give it their all and rock the shit out of everyone. The second album looses that momentum as they try to be more . . . mature? Don't get me wrong, its a good album with quite a few radio friendly hits and while I did enjoy it, I also wondered WTF happened.
gritty, I love it plus it has wonderwall and I'm sure everybody has heard that one before, simplistic lyrics don't always have to mean nothing y'know and I think that is what is done well here, one song can mean multiple things depending on where you are in your life, beautiful album not perfect but not every good thing needs to be.
One of the albums I’m excited to listen to on this list. I really only know Oasis from all their hits, so haven’t explored an Oasis album in its entirety. This album seems to have a handful of their most popular songs. The sound is very English rock. Sure, it’s 90s Britpop, but its influence is clearly 60s/70s rock. It’s all very catchy and entertaining. Gotta admit the first few songs feel somewhat forgettable and then Wonderwall comes on and you hear that acoustic guitar intro and it completely sucks you in. Sometimes a hit is a hit and that’s it. Talk about a timeless song, even after years of overplaying. That and Don’t Look Back in Anger back to back really gets the album kicked into gear. Some Might Say is a nice song. Very guitar heavy. Feels like something from another era. As a whole a lot of it is so classic rock influenced that it feels older than 90s. I think this is a very fun album with some real good hits. Probably a solid 4.
banger album *hello *wonderwall *don't look back in anger *hey now *she's electric
WIll LISTEN TO WHEN I EAT remember that
"Play Wonderwall!!"
Derivative but they do it well
Not many complaints
No comment on the Gallagher brothers as people, but they figured out with this one how to make simple songs beautifully complicated, or maybe it’s the reverse? So good I listened to it twice.
Trop fort!!! 8/10
Can't quite put my finger on why I liked so much more than anticipated but I did. Was definitely . listening to, will again.
A pop rock high point
Some genuinely great songs. My favorite is Champaign Supernova. I think it has moments where it gets a little boring. The songs without great hooks kind of have nothing else going on. Thats long been my issue with Oasis, to me it feels a little shallow, but in moments they shine bright.
Very, very good.
A watershed album for Oasis and Brit-rock that still holds up 30 years later.
Obviously it’s good. It’s Oasis. Not to say that Oasis is inherently good, but more to say that I inherently like a lot of their stuff. I have a couple of friends who don’t really like Oasis, two in specific come to mind, one who gave both their albums a score below 3 and hates everything they did, and one friend who thinks that “Wonderwall” is the worst song ever made but adores “Don’t Look Back In Anger.” I would advise neither of them to know my opinion on the band, because I love both those songs. See, what makes “Wonderwall” such a controversial song is its saccharine levels of sentimentality, and its popularity among the class of intellectuals that many who seriously interact with music consider themselves above. Of course, “Don’t Look Back In Anger”is universally adored, but that’s just because it’s a pretty much perfect song all around. The thing about “Wonderwall,” though, is it’s one of the first times Oasis as a band really shows some sort of sentimentality. That’s actually the big change that this album employs from the debut, a sense of sentimentality and introspection. Of course the aforementioned songs are huge contributors to this, but “Cast No Shadow,” “Some Might Say,” and the fantastic “Champagne Supernova” also contribute to this sense of sentimentality. Now, it doesn’t really interact too much with the more hard rocking songs in the album, which kind of makes the album almost feel disjointed at times, but that doesn’t take away from the album’s moments of true glory (Morning Glory, even…), and as it stands, this is an incredible album, and arguably Oasis’s peak. 9.0/10
A very good listen. Fav tracks: “Champagne supernova” and “Wonderwall”. Solid 4
I heard most of this album in parts over the years, but never gave it a full sit-through. I liked it more than I thought I would. Wonderwall is overplayed to hell and back, but somehow I never get tired of it.
I can’t say I still fully understand Oasis’ popularity in the UK but this made me get it a little more
a classic in my books
relentless guitars
Ditch the stories about the Brothers Gallagher fighting and performing while maniacally high on meth and just give it a listen. Oasis are a simpler, scrappier band than their classical rivals, Blur, but they suffer from some of the same issues that plague their southern cousins. Both hold pretensions of being the inheritors of The Beatles (nobody could try for The Stones?) and neither comes remotely close. Oasis also have some problems that are opposite to Blur: while Damon Albarn's implacable sneer makes everything he touches feel lifeless and insincere, Oasis are beset by an over-rehearsed sincerity that also makes them feel a bit fake. I'll take the faking of sincerity over dispensing with it entirely any day. It's a rock and roll record. It has pretty melodies, vague lyrics about relationships and you could dance to some of the uptempo numbers. 'Wonderwall' has fallen victim to its own saccharine success (it doesn't deserve the generational revulsion that underpins its meme status) but 'Don't Look Back In Anger' and 'Champagne Supernova' are also highly snackable pop delights. They also are entirely nonsensical. One's very clearly a love song and that's lovely (and has been a mainstay/persistent infection of open mics since the album broke) and the other is... vague. But they're both entirely singable and Noel Gallagher's gift for melody shines through. A belated side note, but the non-Gallagher musicians in Oasis are all supremely capable here (Alan White on drums and Paul McGuigan on bass form an especially capable rhythm section). Entirely musical, highly singable, very enjoyable and wholly a sunny rock record (rare, these days), the ornament hides just how wonderfully simple the composition and songwriting is on this album. However, the knock against it is that if you listen closely to Gallagher's lyrics, you may find they're a bit on the vapid side, at times. Sometimes that vagueness is poetic and broadens lyrical appeal. Sometimes you get 'Champagne Supernova', which I adamantly don't believe contains any conceivable meaning, despite feeling anthemic when you hear it (a gift, to be sure!). Aside: Gallagher himself has described 'Champagne Supernova' as psychedelic. In other spaces, I've praised word salad-style lyrics (Jon Anderson). It's a bit unfair to judge poetry based on whether it has an easily-accessible meaning to me, personally. My knee-jerk responsibility is that I don't think that Noel Gallagher thinks the song is really about anything in particular, either (borne out, somewhat, in interviews much later). It's questionable whether either is a valid point. Does music require meaning other than that with which we imbue it? I certainly think that it's an asset for music to have something it's trying to express. 'Supernova' certainly expresses a feeling, at least -- dreamy, a little bit wistful, maybe somewhat hopeful. It's fun to take potshots at the linguistic stew that is the chorus but, honestly, it's very fun to sing and it does tend to elicit emotional reactions in listeners, even after you ask them what they think the song is about (in my experience, anyway). It ain't Bob Dylan, but who is? Just Zimmerman, himself. Retrospective reviews tend to give this 5 stars for most reviewers. They're no Manic Street Preachers but they did write way hookier songs. In the end, the Gallaghers avoid the trap of sounding dead inside like Blur by sounding, instead, like they're utterly fervent about what they're on about but occasionally too drunk to make any sense. Best I can do is a 4/5. Really worth a listen, though.
Just enough good songs on here for it not to be bad
Pretty good
Somwtimes to overstimulated but great if you want to feel like in a highschool movie
It wasn’t bad. Great rock music that made me nostalgic for simpler times. Liam Gallagher’s voice started to get irritating near the end of the album.
8/10 - signature Oasis sound, some classics here, also not forcefully dragged out which is always appreciated
I couldn't believe my eyes when my first album was the Wonderwall one 😌 but it slaps I gotta say anyway, I accidentally started this on June 1st !! wow so satisfying
Love when 2 dudes hate each other
Great album
some generational songs on this. cool to think if some of these songs were played in almost any room every single person would sing along LB x
Okay
The origins of wonderwall lol
i mean like, look, the songs are overplayed but i cant help it if they're catchy
> the Beatles Final 10 being all bangers continues somehow. This might be the best streak I've ever had during these 1089 albums
Dont look back in anger is good
정말 부드럽다 부드러워 깡패들로 알고 있었는데 이 사람들 되게 부드러운 락을 하잖아? 돈룩백인앵거가 좋긴 좋네ㅎ
Better.
It's about as good as the first one
gut, gute laune, kannte einiges, is nit 100% meins aber würd des meiste auch nicht skippen, is so rock/alternative rock würd i sagen
As much as it pains me to admit it: This is not only a classic, but undeniably a great album: lots of songs that are instantly recognizable, perfect production and arrangement.
Pretty good album. Not sure if it’s for me, but there was a number of bangers!! Obviously wonderwall is fire, i really liked the sound of the album. I don't listen to rock much and I really enjoyed this one!!
I'll search for detailed information about this iconic album to provide you with a thorough review. Here's an in-depth review of Oasis's landmark 1995 album, **(What's The Story) Morning Glory?** --- ## Overview Released on October 2, 1995, *(What's The Story) Morning Glory?* is Oasis's second studio album and arguably the defining record of the Britpop era. Produced by **Owen Morris** and **Noel Gallagher**, it transformed Oasis from a promising indie act into global rock superstars, selling over 20 million copies worldwide and spending 10 weeks at #1 on the UK Albums Chart. It became the best-selling album of the 1990s in the UK and broke the band in America, reaching #4 on the Billboard 200. --- ## Lyrics Noel Gallagher's lyricism on *Morning Glory* represents a shift from the aspirational hedonism of *Definitely Maybe* toward something more introspective and emotionally raw. The album captures the psychological weight of sudden fame, substance excess, and working-class identity in a rapidly changing Britain. **Key lyrical moments:** - **"Wonderwall"** — Written about Noel's then-girlfriend Meg Matthews, the lyrics explore vulnerability and the search for emotional rescue: *"And all the roads we have to walk are winding / And all the lights that lead us there are blinding"* - **"Don't Look Back in Anger"** — Opens with piano chords reminiscent of John Lennon's "Imagine" and tells a story of defiance and regret through the character of Sally: *"So Sally can wait / She knows it's too late as she's walking on by"* - **"Morning Glory"** — A cynical, unflinching look at cocaine addiction: *"All your dreams are made / When you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade"* - **"Champagne Supernova"** — The album's psychedelic epic, with famously surreal imagery: *"Slowly walking down the hall / Faster than a cannonball"* Noel later admitted that much of the album was written while "out of it," and the lyrics reflect that dreamlike, sometimes incoherent quality. As one critic noted, the details matter less than the feel, attitude, and experience. However, critics at the time were divided. *Q Magazine*'s David Cavanagh dismissed the lyrics as banal: *"They scan; they fill a hole; end of story. They say nothing much about anything."* --- ## Music & Composition Musically, *Morning Glory* marked a significant departure from the raw, swaggering rock of *Definitely Maybe*. Noel Gallagher's compositions became more focused on **balladry, huge choruses, and string arrangements**. **The sound palette includes:** - **Acoustic-driven anthems** ("Wonderwall," "Don't Look Back in Anger") - **Hard rock with layered guitars** ("Some Might Say," "Morning Glory") - **Orchestral embellishments** — String sections that "classily dress up the songs like ribbons on a trophy" - **Psychedelic epics** ("Champagne Supernova") The album is heavily influenced by The Beatles (particularly in "She's Electric," which echoes "With a Little Help from My Friends"), R.E.M., Gary Glitter, and John Lennon. Musicologist Allan F. Moore compared "She's Electric" to The Beatles' "When I'm Sixty-Four," noting both songs' cross-generational appeal. **Liam Gallagher's vocals** are central to the album's power. His Mancunian accent and "over-personalized" delivery on tracks like "Wonderwall" created *"a beautiful sense of sentimentality that bespeaks the despondency of a generation."* --- ## Production Produced by **Owen Morris** and Noel Gallagher, *Morning Glory* is famous (or infamous) for its **"brickwall" mastering technique** — a loud, compressed, maximalist sound that became a hallmark of the era. **Production characteristics:** - **Wall of sound approach**: Dense layers of guitars, vocals, and strings create an overwhelming sonic experience - **Live energy**: The production retains a raw, live-band feel, particularly on tracks like "Some Might Say" - **Controversial mixing**: Some critics argue the brickwall mastering was overdone compared to *Definitely Maybe*, making the album sound exhausting rather than exhilarating Noel Gallagher himself has expressed dissatisfaction with the production values, and critics like Andy Gill of *The Independent* found tracks like "Roll with It" to be "drab and chummy." The album was also the first to feature drummer **Alan White** (replacing Tony McCarroll, though McCarroll still plays on "Some Might Say"). --- ## Themes **1. Fame and Its Consequences** Noel Gallagher described the album as being *"about actually being a pop star in a band"* — the disorientation, excess, and isolation that comes with sudden global success. **2. Working-Class Identity and Escapism** The album channels the aspirations and frustrations of British working-class youth, filtered through the lens of Britpop's "Cool Britannia" optimism. It projects a glamorous image of Englishness that resonated globally. **3. Substance Use and Excess** Drugs are a recurring theme — from the explicit cocaine references in "Morning Glory" to the hazy, stimulant-fueled atmosphere of "Champagne Supernova." This would ultimately contribute to the band's creative decline on the follow-up *Be Here Now*. **4. Brotherhood and Tension** The volatile relationship between Liam and Noel Gallagher becomes a thematic undercurrent. *Rolling Stone* noted that *"tension and instability have been inherent traits of great rock teams... for Oasis, the addition of shared genes gives their songs extra impact and dimension."* **5. Nostalgia and Melancholy** Tracks like "Cast No Shadow" (dedicated to Richard Ashcroft of The Verve) and "Don't Look Back in Anger" explore regret, lost time, and the weight of expectation. --- ## Influence & Legacy *Morning Glory* is one of the most influential British albums ever made: - **Cultural phenomenon**: It became the soundtrack to "Cool Britannia," helping define 1990s British identity alongside Tony Blair's New Labour, *Loaded* magazine, and the Union Jack dress - **American breakthrough**: It achieved what other Britpop bands couldn't — genuine US success, reaching #4 on the Billboard 200 and inspiring a wave of Anglophile rock - **Stadium rock template**: The album essentially invented the modern stadium singalong formula, with tracks designed for mass communal participation - **Generational impact**: It influenced countless guitar bands that followed, from Coldplay to Arctic Monkeys However, its legacy is contested. Some argue it contributed to the over-hyping of *Be Here Now*, which critics initially praised to avoid repeating their *Morning Glory* "mistake" of underrating Oasis. Noel Gallagher himself has called it overrated, admitting *"some of the songs are not as great as people think they are"* and dismissing "Roll with It" as "shit." --- ## Pros | Strength | Details | |----------|---------| | **Timeless anthems** | "Wonderwall," "Don't Look Back in Anger," and "Champagne Supernova" are genuine classics that have transcended their era | | **Massive choruses** | Noel Gallagher's gift for hooks is unmatched — every track is built for singalongs | | **Liam's vocals** | His delivery gives emotional weight to even the simplest lyrics; his voice is the album's defining instrument | | **Cultural significance** | It captured and helped create a moment in British history; it's as much a cultural document as a musical one | | **American breakthrough** | It proved British guitar rock could conquer the US in the post-grunge era | | **String arrangements** | The orchestral elements elevate the songs beyond standard rock fare | --- ## Cons | Weakness | Details | |----------|---------| | **Filler tracks** | "Hey Now!," "Hello," and "She's Electric" are widely considered weak compared to the classics; many fans wish B-sides like "Acquiesce" and "The Masterplan" had been included instead | | **"Roll with It"** | Even Noel Gallagher admits this track is subpar; its selection as the lead single cost Oasis the "Battle of Britpop" against Blur | | **Overbearing production** | The brickwall mastering can feel exhausting; some tracks suffer from a lack of dynamic range | | **Lyrical shallowness** | Critics argue many lyrics are banal or nonsensical, relying on attitude over substance | | **Lack of experimentation** | The album plays it safe stylistically; there's little sonic risk-taking | | **"Hello" controversy** | The opener's chorus borrows from Gary Glitter, retrospectively tainting the track | | **The Swamp Song excerpts** | The two untitled interludes feel like padding rather than essential album components | --- ## Verdict *(What's The Story) Morning Glory?* is a flawed masterpiece. It's uneven — front-loaded with classics and weighed down by filler — but the highs are so stratospheric that they justify the album's legendary status. It captures a band at the absolute peak of their cultural power, translating working-class Mancunian swagger into universal anthems that still fill stadiums nearly 30 years later. Is it overrated? Perhaps. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But as one critic put it, complaining about its flaws is *"a bit like complaining that the glovebox in your Rolls-Royce is too small."* The album's greatness lies not in its precision but in its attitude, its ambition, and its unshakeable belief in the power of a massive chorus. It remains an essential document of British rock — and a reminder that sometimes, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. **Essential tracks:** "Wonderwall," "Don't Look Back in Anger," "Champagne Supernova," "Some Might Say," "Morning Glory" **Skip:** "Hey Now!," "The Swamp Song" excerpts **Rating:** ★★★★☆ (4/5) — A landmark album with genuine flaws, but one whose classic tracks have earned it a permanent place in rock history.
Big nostalgia hit for me. Might objectively be three stars, but it's a four in my heart.
Going to go with a 4. I don't think I've ever listened to this album in full. Could've been a 5 but a lot of the stuff has been overplayed which dilutes song into less than they are
1. "Roll With It" 2. "Wonderwall" 3. "Don't Look Back in Anger"
Not my favourite album, but it had some nice classic tunes on it.
DISCASO
We'll would you look at that? The album holds up far beyond Wonderwall. I understand why this is a classic that I'm always seeing at record shows. 8/10
i like it
Mike- 9/10 Josie- 8.50
Oasis: we love us some epistrophe and damn are we good at using it I don’t know guys Oasis kind of makes me want to chain smoke and have unprotected sex the same way listening to Arctic Monkeys does Are there Oasis songs in Trainspotting????? I kinda feel like there should be
Hadn't listened to Champagne Supernova in like 20 billion years, this was a nice start to Jueves
I don't truly have the authority to declare this but Oasis are honorary lesbians for this one. Favourite song: Don't Look Back In Anger
Good album. Just don't like Oasis.
As much as I dislike the singer it is a very good album
One of my favorite albums to listen to
the only thing that bothers me in this album is consistencies. You have some of the bands most amazing/important songs on this record but some of the most forgettable. Nothing will ever beat definitely maybe but this one might some day definitely maybe.
Notables: - Don't Look Back In Anger - She's Electric - Champagne Supernova
how i met your mother vibes kinda like it
i feel like every movie and tv show from 1998 to 2006 used one of these songs in their soundtrack. I called this derivative because it felt like a formulaic album for music of this era but I guess it's famous bc it's the first? Or at least the most mainstream? Feels like accessible 90's rock. Anyways, it's good and I can't argue with it - just in hindsight it's overrated.
this was interesting in that the hits are great as you remember but none of the other songs are really memorable to me
The hits on this album are just so strong that it's hard to justify anything less than 4 stars, even if some of "the rest" is a little uneven. No use writing more about the three ubiquitous mega-smash songs than has already been written. Cast No Shadow has always been another favorite, and Morning Glory goes pretty hard. Probably the pinnacle of Britpop?
Nostalgic and full of memories. Good album.
Hello - 8/10 good first song Roll With It - 7.5/10 cool guitar Wonder Wall - 9/10 classic Don’t Look Back In Anger - 8/10 GUITAR Hey Now - 7/10 The Swamp Song V1 - 8/10 (segue) Some Might Say - 10/10 SO GOOD Cast No Shadow - 10/10 WOW She’s Electric - 8/10 Mourning Glory - 7/10 The Swamp Song V2 - 7/10 (segue) Champagne Supernova - 7/10 Overall 7.8/10 I really like, nothing crazy, it’s just a good solid rock album, would be good for being outside/driving around in the summer, and I liked the guitar instrumentals.
4 stars just for champagne supernova
This aged pretty well. It's packed with tunes that have an internal energy and irresistible melodies. I often feel like I have less idea what they're on about then R.E.M. (can anyone explain the staging of the speaker and Sally in "Don't Look Back in Anger"?), and I'm not confident there's much there anyway, but it's fun to listen to.
This is what made them. And being such a huge band you can only assume that the album will be top notch. It’s not perfect and it’s not their best album but in its time, it was a perfectly released change in what the system was throwing us at the time. What that is, I don’t recall but I know it was different and worth it. Choice cut: Champagne Supernova
puros temones, una banda que ya conocía y me encanta su sonido muy buen álbum
First notes of “Hello” instantly take me back to my senior year of high school
Know this album we'll.
Classic, has unusual chords and unusual song structures while remaining approachable. Champagne Supernova is so good! There are one or two songs that feel less solid.
Obviously love Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova.
if you press the skip button when "Wonderwall" comes on, it's a much more pleasant experience imo. i never gave oasis a fair shot because of that stupid ass fucking song. since i chose to give them an honest chance this morning, i found myself really drawn to this sound and then began to wonder whether or not i had spent my teens missing out on a band i would really like if i got past my own pretention about wonderwall
I found this to be a bit less impressive than their debut. It's got some iconic barnstormer songs on it though. It has a grandiose scale to it that songs like Champagne Supernova really manage to showcase well. It does have the classic Oasis flaws. Production is way too loud and some of the songs just go on and on and on and the entire album kind of feels pompous. But still, I enjoy it for what it is.
Often terrible but still an irresistible juggernaut.
I love this album. I was tempted to give it a 5 but I like to save 5s for absolute perfection and this one isn't quite there.
Monkeys with typewriters come to mind. They are still morons, but there are a few absolutely banging singalongs here. I always remind my kids that every family is a cult, and ours is (among other things) the cult of Britpop--one of us is devoted to Pulp, one to Blur, mine is Supergrass, and one has an Oasis shirt with golden retrievers on it.
Good album. overplayed.
I’ll say it and stand by it: “Don’t Look Back In Anger” is better than “Imagine.”
Solid album. It’s aged well. Too bad the brothers are head cases.
I do like this album and consider it the best of Oasis.. or possibly the one that stood the test of time and still listenable today. It may be because I’m old enough to remember it as a new release and can picture where I was when whats the story hit the triple j airwaves in Oz .. or to wonder why wonderwall was SUCH a big hit! I love the slow build up to the intro in what’s the story and that plaintiff guitar calling in the morning while they muse on the trials of a lad finding out what becoming a man is all about: ‘all your dreams are made while you’re chained to the mirror and the razor blade’. (Clearly never heard of electric shavers). I prefer the lesser played singles like champagne supernova and don’t look back and I will listen to roll with it but there are a couple of forgettables, such as she’s electric and some might say. I do like the raw distortion and guitar wall of sound across most tracks. Clearly not going for a super polished studio recording which is at least authentic for these lads.
Still can't believe Morning Glory wasn't the opening track. I like to believe that a fight over this was a big part of the brothers falling out.
Day 25 (What's the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis I remember hearing “Wonderwall” for the first time sometime in the late 90s when I was around 6 years old. It just sounded different. Even after hearing it probably over a thousand times, it’s still somehow insanely iconic. I honestly don’t even know why. It just works. I’ve heard this album before, but it’s been a long time. I’m not a massive Oasis fan, but I definitely like them. And honestly, this album is close to no-skips for me. “Wonderwall” into “Don’t Look Back in Anger” is such a ridiculous back-to-back combo. There really aren’t many albums with two songs that legendary sitting next to each other. The middle part of the album is maybe the weakest section for me, but even then it’s still good. Overall this is just legendary Britpop. Big melodies, attitude, catchy choruses. You can hear why this album became so massive. This is a strong 4 for me, but I can already tell I’ll revisit it a few times in the next weeks and there’s definitely a chance it becomes a 5. Wine pairing? Forget wine. This calls for cheap English lager. Carling feels correct somehow. Food pairing? Proper Manchester pub food. Steak and ale pie with chips feels perfect for this album. Vinyl? Don’t own it, but definitely want it. Favourite song? “Don’t Look Back in Anger”. First listen? No. Overall 4 out of 5.
meerdere bangers. prima album
I love this album. Sure the hits are great but the whole thing is strong. Don’t Look Back in Anger and Cast No Shadow are my personal faves
I dont actually give a rats this is mint
4.5/5
I never thought I would enjoy Oasis this much as I did with this album. Itvis not only Wonderwall but all the songs are great:good melodies and lyrics even with Liam's idiosyncrasies. I can understand why this is popular in mid 90s and it is still resonates, now with a little bit of nostalgia with the unplugged technology times. This place is well deserved and Oasis should not be forgetvin this era. Sound and attitude defining. 4/5
I really enjoyed this album. I know it was made as a kind of stadium rock, radio-friendly album, but that's fine by me. Lyrically it isn't the most inspired thing in the world, but that's my only real knock against it. I'd listen to this album again for sure.
Album sounds like better times. Some bum tracks, but plenty of bangers.
Classic!
I cannot stand this album
Really liked it. Can’t give it more than an 8/10 because my friend hates oasis
Not the biggest fan of Oasis, but this is probably their best album. Heard it quite a bit back when it came out - lots of fans at my store. Listening to it again, it's pretty good. Still not going to buy a copy, but it's not bad. 3 1/2 stars.
I mean this is all the oasis bangers. They grate on me a bit sometimes, but maybe that’s because being from the north of England these are the kinds of songs you know the words to before you’re onto solid food. But I can’t deny that there are times ahead of me when I’ll be singing at least one of these songs loudly at some summer party.
The Beatles did it first but better.
I really like this album. Guitar is excellent, and I love Liam Gallagher's voice. Favorite Oasis album of mine, and Don't Look Back in Anger is my favorite Oasis song. However, I can't stand Wonderwall.
favs: hello, roll with it, hey now, champagne supernova
This is the rare Britpop album that actually had enough impact to merit inclusion. I mean, it's the one with "Wonderwall" on it. The actual album is very loud yet poppy rock music. Many songs, especially the big hits, are incredibly reminiscent of the Beatles(not inherently a bad thing). The vocals and lyrics are okay, but they're not anything phenomenal. The album's real strength comes with its hookiness and distinctly retro sounds. Although it is a good album, I do believe that it is massively overrated(and everyone knows Wonderwall is massively overplayed). It's not the 5-star all timer that the vast majority of reviewers think it is, but it is a pretty solid 3.5-4 star pop album from 1995.
I mean it’s good. It has hits. But I just don’t fully vibe with oasis. 7/10
I got wonderwalled and after that it was like getting weezered till champagne supernova
Enjoyed the flip out of this when I was at university. Classic britpop
enjoyed it more than i expected
Solid with hits.high 4
In the least pejorative way possible, What’s the Story (Morning Glory?) sounds like it’s been fine-tuned for karaoke. It’s catchy, cathartic, and a little cheesy. I can only imagine how deafening the crowds must have been at the reunion gigs. Oasis’ 2025 tour setlist featured 6 songs from their debut; 8 from Morning Glory; 2 from Be Here Now; 1 from Heathen Chemistry; and more surprisingly while three of their latter-day LPs were in no way represented, 5 songs from their b-sides album The Masterplan. It suggests then that for fans of Oasis, Morning Glory represents the zenith, so good that the b-sides are getting their time in the sun thirty years later. Received wisdom while I was growing up was that Definitely Maybe was Oasis’ best album by quite some margin. Certainly that’s what the Gallagher brothers repeated post-break up. While it might be the “cooler” choice I agree with fans that the follow up is the superior record. Not only is it tighter, with a greater number of iconic songs, it feels like the culmination of the whole Brit-pop project.
Es un álbum accesible, cómodo, emocional. Rock + pop+ Beatles vibes . No te desafía , te abraza.
Banger on top of banger on top of banger… unfortunately I really dislike the Gallagher brothers… but the album is a very quality 4.4.
Only knew Wonderwall going into this. No real nostalgia for this album, but I think it holds up! Really enjoyable listen. 8/10 Most Excellent
It was very nostalgic, I was born in 94, I will always love listening to a whole 90s album. The album itself has alot of hits and its a great sounds no skips
Damn you oasis, as much as I don't like you guys...this is a good album. I think this is probably peak oasis. Yes it's loud, obnoxious, and annoying, but that's typical for them. This is a perfect blend of everything that oasis is good at and all the songs are enjoyable and really work well together in this album. Point off for it being oasis, sorry not sorry, it's just cause they're aresholes Fav track: Don't look back in anger
One of the most frustrating albums I can think of. Frequent moments of brilliance, nuggets of great songwriting and fantastic layering overshadowed by Liam Gallagher's often awful whining, which is of the variety that makes committing arson seem appealing. I'm still going to have to score this 4/5 for the core instrumentation and the melodies in and of themselves, despite them desperately crying out for a more capable vocalist.
Shocking 4 from me. I used to think their hits were way too long but I don't mind them these days and the other tracks on this record slap hard. Generally for me to give something a 4 or higher it means that most every track caught my interest, something that never happened before with Morning Glory for me. Britpop finally makes sense to me 30 years later so that helps too. Enjoyed this album more than I ever have before.
A weird album, and one clearly made for the 90s Britpop-crazed masses. But there isn’t a single miss (except The Swamp Song v2, and arguably Wonderwall). Plenty of groove to go around, and a nice “full” texture that works well for playing on roadtrips. The opener, Hello, makes for an intense intro – though I could also see it closing out the album too. Loud, more-blurry-than-brash guitars take the centre stage alongside vocals that can only be described as "over-enunciated". Why does he sound like that? (This aptly describes most of the songs here, by the way.) The Vib-VIIb-I chord progression spells a tale as old as time, yet it’s still pretty darn effective at building up tension that releases throughout the remainder of the record. Then we encounter Roll With It, more of a rocking, bluesy number. Loud towards the end with a heavy-metal-type ending. Cool. …And after aallllllllll. You're my wonderwaallllllllll. I have no idea why this song in particular blew up when most other tracks on WTSMG rock so much harder. And adding an acoustic guitar cello doesn’t make your song a classy joint (though it puts up a pretty convincing act). Pretty sure it’s one of those songs where advertisement made it so omnipresent that everyone started hearing it everywhere and convincing themselves (and each other) than it’s much better than it really is. The lyrics are pretty terrible too. I only give this song a “like” because, given how enormous it is in popular culture, it would feel strange not to. (Later on the album, Cast No Shadow – a tune with a similar tempo, melody, and energy – outshines Wonderwall in every possible way.) But the next song, Don’t Look Back In Anger… I can get behind this one. A few cool chord choices here and there are guaranteed to grab your attention, and the singing is the strongest it’s been so far. In comparison to all the previous tracks, Hey Now! fades a little into the background – though it’s still pretty decent. The highlight would have to be that semi-gazey guitar instrumental in the middle. The first version of The Swamp Song deserves to be significantly longer. The grooviest Oasis gets on the record. (The second version, not so much.) Some Might Say… rambunctious, rocky, catchy as high heck. Maybe a little too “happy-sounding” for my taste, but a great track regardless. I love when strong bands make use of vocal harmonies, and Oasis does that here and also heavily in She’s Electric (which also makes use of the aforementioned chord progression. Those chords never miss). The song’s end kind of sounds like the end of With A Little Help From My Friends. The singer readopts that bizarre and exceptionally annoying Wonderwallian accent in Champagne Supernova – but the overwhelming, blurry, blissful Britpoppiness cannot be understated. The song is fantastic if you ignore Gallagher’s vocal. Parts of it remind me, strangely, of Sympathy For The Devil (the best Rolling Stones song), particularly the lead guitar. 4/5 Key tracks: Don’t Look Back In Anger, Some Might Say, She’s Electric
Um dos meus xodós. Não sei se é tão bom quanto eu acho
I mean damn, "Wonderwall" is actually a damn good song huh. With this project I've worried that everything has been "whatever I guess it's fine", so maybe the problem was me. But this one resonated! I can see why this is a classic.
The Netflix show Everything Sucks is as close as I’ve ever seen to a perfect depiction of being a high school kid in 1995. Especially the scene where they get this CD in the mail and listen to it for the very first time.
I liked it. I'd put it on again. Low-ish 4.
Muito bom
muy, muy bueno
Whatever here's wonderwall
oasis, n. - British English /əʊˈeɪsɪs/ oh-AY-siss Originally: A fertile place in the desert Contemporary: One band with two brothers and one musical talent with one eyebrow Man muss nur dieses Album hören!
classic brit pop
These wankers have some ears for this music thang.
Great album. Oasis have such a unique sound that all the songs almost sound the same but it’s not really an issue if you like it
4.5. The ending of champagne supernova makes me want to give it a 5
The closest a britpop album ever got to me in my life. One everyone knows. And despite or because of Wonderwall, Noel’s whiny vocals nothing overstays its charm and who else has Champagne Supernova or Don’t Look Back in Anger?
Solid 90s
I always knew about this album, my students in San Francisco introduced to it, and its two big hits were perennially on radio when radio mattered. But I never really gave it a seriously listen... until now. It's a fantastic album, a signature watermark of the 90s Birtpop scene that was overrunning America at the time. From the opening track "Hello" with its balance of volatility and a great hook to the final magisterial song on the collection, (What's the Story) Morning Glory really holds together well. Most of the tracks bear a Beatles' influence in their melodic compositions and Noel Gallagher's nasally singing that evokes Lennon, but I also feel some of the Psychedelic Furs in there, along with late-period Paul Weller. "Wonderwall", of course is a classic, great lyrics, great tight musicianship. I feel the drum track is key in this entire song. In "Roll With It" the open chord strumming of the guitar gives a song a looseness that runs rampant over the track, and along with "Hey Now", feels like a track built for the live shows, where they really rock out. "Don't Look Back In Anger" hearkens to the good old English rage in Osborne's play, and also contains the best lyric: "Please don't put your life In the hands of a rock'n'roll band Who'll throw it all away." Damn, it's like yes, Sally, you can screw us, but don't get attached cause we're already leaving, groupie! The beauty of "Cast No Shadow" is accented with orchestration and wanting background vocals and also come with this kicker: "As he faced the sun/He cast no shadow." The hollowness of daily life was never more succinctly put. There's grunge on this album, but also straight-up beautiful balladry. And then there's a final crowning track. "Champagne Supernova" is a supremely special song. It starts out slow and measured and then gradually crescendoes to this epic psychedelic peak that strains to keep the hot emotions in check. The lyrics are eminently quotable, and I hear people of ages singing along whenever this track plays. 30 years later, it still resonates with such power and confidence.
Heerlie
Mes préférées : she’s electric et morning glory. L’album est cool presque aucun skip. Les voix sont belles et variées. Les instrus sont être de jolies balades et du rock plus classique
Oasis is all about attitude. If you’re not in that type of mood it can drag. This is a good album. I would say even a great album. But yeah I kind of get bored by the repetitiveness within the tracks. If your not in that mood, it won’t hit. Oasis is one of those bands that fill an itch when you need it. Overall, this is a solid 4/5. Definitely maybe is the better record for me and what started it all. But I’d say Morning Glory has the higher highs.
Was never really an Oasis fan but I guess we'll see. Not bad, I think I maybe kinda like Oasis. Pretty basic rock but also catchy. This is a pretty decent album, maybe I'm just older and less judgy but this album is pretty good.
its a big one
I've always liked the popular tracks, but listening to the album as a whole is showing me a depth to their music I hadn't realized was there.
Random thoughts: * I feel like so much of Oasis is wrapped up in what you think about how they appropriated the Beatles. Obviously a bit complicated for this Beatles fanboy. * This is the peak Oasis and the best album by far with their biggest hits. * This is so 90s. Wonderwall and Champagne Super Nova were songs I remember being huge hits. * I don't remember "Don't Look Back In Anger" being a hit in the 90s. I feel like it gained a second life through live performances or just had a slower burn than those other hits. It might be the best song on this album or at least gives Wonderwall a run for its money. * Anyway, this is a 90s classic that everyone owned. It's not up there with the Beatles but it was the definitive album of 90s Britpop.
Genial
Muy buen algun con canciones iconicas su sonido es la definicion de brit pop
4/5
Certainly their best effort (by some margin)
water in a dessert
If 26 out of the 40 songs you throw at me in a 2-hour and 20 minutes album sound exactly the same I am bitting your carotid off. That being said, it was an incredible album that made me like Oasis.
Estilo de musica similar al mío, capaz algunos cambios medio bruscos
oh! i've heard some of these before and never knew it was this band. it has that kind of older brit rock/pop sound, which, to be clear, i like. feels like this album would be great to listen to on a long journey of some sort where you have a lot of time to look out the window as things pass you by, ideally you are not the one driving. "some might say" is quite good imo. "champagne supernova" is also a good chill song. ~~~ anyway here's wonderwall ~~~
one of the two goods albums produced by this lot. I considered giving it a thee but it's legacy is pretty significant so that upped it to a 4
Anyways... here's my review I was quite pleased when I discovered that this album had a lot more to offer than just Wonderwall. While it is certainly a product of its time with its angsty alt-rock attitude, I still got a lot of enjoyment out of listening to it. I found both the instrumentation and the lyrics to be catchy and engaging without coming across as cheap or corny. Truthfully while listening to this I felt like a main character in a 90s/00s sitcom who keeps experiencing small misfortunes but remains implacable in their desire to enjoy living life in their own way, and I have to respect the album for making me feel that way.
I had no idea there was more to Oasis than Wonderwall! What a pleasant surprise
Good, nothing life changing but nice.
The Beatles, but what if they were soaked in 90s grunge and cinematic orchestral?
Przeslucham 3 piosenki 😭 not bad tho i will come back
I liked this way more than I thought I would.
love em or hate em, this has some fkn bangers on it
such a classic
90’s nostalgia at its must. Appart from the massive radio hits a few fillers without interest a a couple of hidden gems (at least for me - a Blur fan…) D’hésitation Electric and Mornig Glory !
Look, all you British Gen X’ers on this site. I’m truly sorry BritPop did a number on your psyche and apparently truly hurt you, I really am. That sucks, but not my problem. This album rocks and was the perfect album at the right time. Leave your hangup at the door, pick up an acoustic guitar in 7th grade and play wonderwall for your crush.
Do I adore it now? No. Was this a huge part of the 90s? Sure was. Every song is quite memorable. Showing respect with the rating.
anyways, here's wonderwall
Didn’t listen to this back in the day, other than the singles. I’m pleasantly surprised! It sounds great and the singles feel like old friends.
I've listened to this dozens of times at this point. "Wonderwall" is a meme, but it's a good song. Nothing bad to say about this album, but it's so big, I can't really think of anything original to say other than that I unironically like it.
Ale today it's gonna be the day an tomorrow will be day too. Or whatever Oasis said. I like this album. Of course Wonderwall is Wonderwall but don't look back in anger is masterpiece and I love it. Rest of this album is pretty good and a lot enjoyable for me.
Don't Look Back in Anger makes me cry and I don't know why and it's been like this for a bit and it's a little concerning. One of the first albums I ever bought. Haters be damned.
Very enjoyable
I love Britpop!!! Geef me zeikerige stemmen!!! Ja genieton!
Champagne Supernova is a masterpiece. This is what peak psychadelics use sounds like! For me, this song is to Oasis what Bohemian Rhapsody is to Queen. The absolute hight of their careers, if not Britpop as a whole. Don't Look Back in Anger is another gem. The song is a staple in pubs and karaoke bars alike, with a chorus that rivals the likes of Sweet Caroline and Angels. And yet I can't help but feel like it deserves more than that? The other tracks on the album are great as well, but the sheer brilliance of the above mentioned songs overshines them a bit. That being said, I have gained a new appreciation for She's Electric! Anyway, here's Wonderwall.
I can see why this band had the men of this generation in a vice grip. These are meat and potatoes anthems for the working class. They're loud, brass and the Gallagher brothers bring buckets of attitude to the table. Even the non-single tracks here have massive potential to be chart-toppers. 'Don't Look Back In Anger' and 'Champagne Supernova' stand out due to slower pace and the strings that make the songs soar. You can hear their Beatles influence the strongest on the chorus of 'She's Electric'. They may be lacking the intelligence that you will find in music of the other Britpop bands like Pulp and Suede, but these songs are are much more digestible to the masses. That being said, I could do without ever hearing 'Wonderwall' ever again due to how overplayed it is and 'Roll With It' was certainly a choice to be selected as the single for them to go into a chart war with Blur. It's a very generic Oasis song and I would have picked almost any other song on the record. Whilst I ultimately think that Oasis are overrated and that they never followed up on the success of this album, I can admit that this record (along with the debut and accompanying b-sides) are a great time and they take me right back to my childhood.
Full of classics, no skip album. But on re-listening to the whole album, hard to listen to objectively due to hype and nostalgia.
I can't give this less than four, even though I didn't actually want to hear it again before I died. It was sooo good at the time. It's still good. In fact, annoyingly, I must concede it's a bona fide "no skips". But, god, those songs and that northern swagger make me grit my teeth these days.
A 90’s classic. Oasis were on top of the world. Contains 3 all timers in Wonderwall, Don’t look back in anger and Champagne Supernova. The middle of the album- Hey Now to She’s electric- drags a little. I’ll always be nostalgic for this one.
British people
Its just so 90s...and so British. Oasis is one of those bands where listening to the album is meh but seeing them live would probably be really fun.
I really wouldn't consider myself an Oasis fan, but it's got to be said that this album is gigantic. The amount of brilliant anthems on this thing, I really enjoyed listening to this all the way through. That being said, the lyrics are really shoddy a lot of the time. Special shout-out to Champagne Supernova as the perfect closing track. Favourites: Don't Look Back In Anger She's Electric Champagne Supernova
Pretty great album.
i really loved this album and i sort of knew i would going into it from only hearing some of oasis’s stuff. anyway i really liked “roll with it” and it immediately stood out to me because it gave me a similar feeling to jimmy eat world- the middle, which is obviously awesome and gave me the feeling like ok yeah everything’s going to be fine especially me being a teen this was a fun song. Another one that stood out was “don’t look back in anger” for obvious reasons and it deserves its popularity. last ones ill mention are “some might say” and “champagne supernova” just liked the feeling it brought me :))) i loved this album and love oasis.
I would rate this album a 4.5. Great tunes, very fun, a few songs sound a bit repetetive but nothing too bad. I LOVE don't look back in anger
...and here it is. Is this where Britpop peaked? Melodic rock ballads galore, the songwriting and composition from Oasis takes large strides here in only their second studio album. Everyone knows the big hits, but the album is tied together with a sort of anthemic theme all throughout, helped along by more of a focus on using string arrangements. With an album and group of this stature though, it tends to veer into "overrated" territory for some. I can kind of see that, I mean I don't think I'd call this album in particular a perfect one. The highs are certainly high, but I felt that there was a tad of what some would consider "filler" here. Still Oasis's best album for sure.
Annoyingly good. Don’t like the people.
It’s difficult to get over how annoying the personalities are, which is interesting, and what actually is a Wonderwall? But, the guitar shreds and many of the best tracks were not the singles/classics, which may just be over saturation rearing its head.
Oikein mukava levy.
Bin heute in Geberlaune.
I enjoyed this more than I remembered enjoying it years ago. I will say the good tracks a good, but the other ones are not so great. Given the state of world affairs lately, slipping into a champagne supernova sounds rather appealing.
Morning Glory, Indeed This album is a proper joy from start to finish. Catchy hooks, riffs that stick with you, and some of the most iconic tracks of the ’90s. It’s fun, loud in all the right ways, and it’s easy to see why it’s still such a celebrated classic. Some songs just hang around in your head long after, and in the best way. Everything feels confident and full of personality, from the big anthems to the quieter moments. It’s the kind of album you can sit back and play all the way through without skipping a track. I’d give it 4 out of 5. Not perfect, but consistently brilliant. A proper classic and a joy to listen to from start to finish.
As stadium rock goes, it's hard to beat this. It's big, it's loud, it's catchy, it's got a ballad or two, it's got just enough grit to keep it "authentic". Is it better than Definitely, Maybe? Definitely not, but Oasis always wanted to go mainstream and this is one of the better mainstream rock records you'll ever get. Anyway, here's Wonderwall.
An awesome album packed to the brim with hit after hit. I hope the two brothers don't fall of favour and continue to make genre defining pieces of work! Favourite Track - Morning Glory
I need to stop passing this album at the record store, classic britpop.
can't believe Noah doesn't know wonderwall
7/10 Favorite: Don’t Look Back In Anger
Have listened to it. Don't look back in anger and Champagne Supernova are great.
A refreshing album, really got me to understand Oasis’ impact in music
YES! Certainly I'm not the biggest fan of Oasis, but they were my whole personality on my early 20s, specifically this album. "Wonderwall" is my favorite song of all times (quite basic bitch, don't care) and I have an interesting story about how I found it: I heard it for the first time from Naruto AMV on youtube when I was like 11 maybe, but I didn't knew English then so paying attention to phrases and googleing wasn't a possibility, and it wasn't until I was 15 that my English teacher made us watch a documentary of the life in the UK and they talked about Oasis so I could (finally) know the name of that song. Anyway, I really good album, a lot of nostalgia and good memories <3 Also finishing with Champagne Supernova *chef kiss*.
1995. Anyway, here's Wonderwall! This is a really enjoyable album throughout. Multiple big hits that I recognize that sound corny because of the memes but are actually really pleasant.
Good album. It's useful for anyone who wants to start listening to the band.
Great driving music. Almost atmospheric. Of course “Wonderwall” is their smash hit. Is every song kind of the same?
7/10
Tämä levy löytyy omasta hyllystä. Tämä hittilevy onkin ainoa, minkä bändiltä omistan. Levy on täynnä klassikoita. Tulee kuunneltua silloin tällöin.
hmm, closet Oasis fan all these years....
Great bit of Brit rock, wonder wall and don't look back in anger are both classics, there were some very good parts that I enjoyed in this album,Overall very good.
I had definitely maybe yesterday and was bored but I liked this album is WAYYYYY more. Still dad rock which is just not my favorite genre. Laughed out loud when I saw I was listening to wonderwall today. Favorite song: don’t look back in anger
yeah fire lowkey…. been recently taking trips on the oasis bus, like i get it (they’re no beatles, but they got some bangers) i think this album has my faves of their music i know she’s electric bangs (kinda a zolas shade so that’s always some extra points for me) don’t look back in anger a classic cast no shadow and some might say we’re newer to me but caught my ear
I was fully prepared to come at this album with a 1 or a 2 due to how annoying I find wonderwall and champagne supernova in a vacuum. But I'll be damned if this is one of those cases where everything sounds more palatable in the context of the album. Good instrumental layering, pretty good variety, and while I find the vocals unappealing they weren't a deal breaker. 3.5/5 -> 4/5
ugh... I don't like Oasis *but* how can anyone deny the quality of a band and album that had so many hits, including Wonderwall? Everyone likes to shit on Wonderwall now, but not that many bands have songs that transcend time, reach meme level, become so famous that end up being a caricature of themselves. So, even though I won't add this to my replay list, it deserves 4 stars.
Morning glory is solid rock album, with really good songwriting. Maybe this doesn't sound as fresh as it did in the mid 90's, but it's a damn good britpop record!
Good album, solid oasis record
Normally this would just get a 3, this album is OK. BUT based on impact to the music industry it gets a bump
Amo a los gallagher tal vez de una manera cero pensada pero no me importa porque este album me crió
Really great listen. Awesome flow to the album, heard some songs I really needed to hear. Loved the creative lyrics. Loved "Cast No Shadow" and "She's Electric."
7/10
8/10 – Very Good
Pretty solid album.
Dope
🥇she’s electric 🥈don’t look back in anger 🥉morning glory HM: roll with it, wonderwall, hey now, some might say, champagne supernova
Pre-listen: Eh. These songs are undeniable, timeless songwriting classics really. But not looking forward to listening quite as much as others so far as I’m just so familiar with Oasis at this point. But let’s see how we go… Post listen: Never listened cover to cover. Really is a great album. A lot more weight to it when listened in full. The ballads being around the middle surprised me, and they felt more heartfelt than I ever remembered them when in full context. Wall to wall memorable, gotta say it’s no wonder it’s seen so influential.
Very fun and enjoyable
4.5
It gets a 4 out of me and I still don't want to listen to it. That's the magic of Oasis.
Solid.
I got this album for my brother who I do not speak to for Christmas, because I think I'm real funny. Some little sibling-isms never go away. Besides that Britpop is a rough subgenere for me because I am an American asshole and think it all sort of sounds the same. It really has to knock my threadbare socks off in order to break through the sludge. I however, am a sucker for Wonderwall. I would sacrifice my newborn to hear Don't Look Back in Anger live. (What's the Story) Morning Glory has not knocked off my socks entirely, like they're still kind of on, but I can't help but agree that this album is, in a way, gigantic. It's loud it's rough, and this way be biased by my knowledge of Noel and Liam's forever beef, but it seems heavy with unspoken tension. It makes me want a cigarette real bad, which is a compliment in this case. 8.5/10
fun, hummable, catchy songs. not terribly deep or contemplative.
I hated this album, but had never actually listened to it. Now, let me explain: Wonderwall. It was everywhere. And sadly, most cover bands/singers picked it up and put it in their repertoire in the early-mid 00s in New Zealand. I couldn't have told you another song. Then, I joined a band with a guy who was obsessed with the band. I bought the first two albums. Enjoyed them. I did. While there are some great songs, 'Champagne Supernova', 'Dont look back in Anger', and 'Whats the Story...' There is still a lot of stuff that is a bit average. Positive, yes. Catchy, yes. But can you have an album that has a song called 'Hello' and 'Hey Now'... Look, I'd go to the concert, I'd sing a long, but in my heart it's not 5 stars. 4 stars (a high 4!)
It's pretty amazing that I've heard some of these songs roughly a quadrillion times and still enjoy them (I'm looking at you Wonderwall). This coming on the heels of Coldplay is a little enlightening. They are sort of a similar sub-genre, but Oasis is so much more enjoyable. I don't think there was a single song on this album that I didn't enjoy. It's never going to be my favorite album, but its incredibly solid all the way through with pretty high highs.
03/02/2026 Its a good album, but not worthy of 5 stars because it is quite samey and I've heard them all played before! Spotify listeners: 27.6 million
Good songs, but not quite a five for me
I came in with Live Forever and then only knew about these guys as a pair of idiots. But this became my go-to study album in the fall of 1996 and eventually something all of my indie rock/hardcore crew would whisper to each other about enjoying, much as with Pinkerton. It mostly holds up for me, despite the abysmal lyrics and backwards-extending-fallout from Be Here Now and the subsequent decades of lacklustre bullshit. What holds up for me? The guitars! It’s such a gigantic sound, as novel as anything Kevin Shields accomplished. I’ll still always be a Blur head but I won’t turn Morning Glory down.
A record and a band that's grown on me over the last 30 years. Would have been a 2 in 1996.
You can say it's overplayed, you can say it's overrated, but it's such a good album - and it did not get old!
Amazing album we already know this
Kordan klarte æ å aldri helt havne i britpopbobla da æ va i målgruppa og cirka riktig alder og alt det der? Kæm vet, men det e jo litt morsomt å høre på så mye av det her for første gang nu.
If 4.5 was an option this would be it.
Finally some good britpop.....pretty solid all around, radio hits still hold up after all these years. 4.5
So anyway, here's Wonderwall.
There are a couple of enormous songs on this album - I think 'Cast No Shadow' is an all-timer. 'DLBIA' is quality', 'Morning Glory' and 'Champagne Supernova have both grown on me too'. Considering the cultural impact this album had, I think a 4 is fair
В целом я довольна альбом, он конечно не сильно поразил меня, но пару песен в свой основной плейлист я добавила
Classic
I've gone back and forth on Oasis, not if they're good or not, but if I 'get it'. When I listen to this album, I come away saying I do get it. It might not be for me (although currently it is), but it's easy to understand their importance and meteoric rise to superstardom after this record.
The fact that Oasis are still so beloved despite releasing nothing but shite for their final FIVE albums is testament to how beloved and fantastic their first two are. Huge, dumb, loveable choons and lightning in a bottle chemistry and charisma and chutzpah to pull them off
peak britpop. wonderwall overrated and overplayed, champagne supernova a rightful classic
good reminder that Oasis have made excellent music outside of Wonderwall
love oasis!!
Two great songs (wonderwall, anger) are to few to make this record really great. I also don’t like the guitar wall of sound.
Best - don’t look back in anger Worst - cast no shadow
Just pretty damn good.
4.0
Huge improvement over their debut. It helped to have them back to back for my listening education. Finally finding a sound that stands out. Some great hits. And the songs I wasn’t familiar with all still have a charm. Wonderwall Don’t Look Back in Anger She’s Electric Morning Glory Champagne Supernova
Voice is a tad annoying Classic DLBIA Hey Now! Bit repetitive Wish they expanded on The Swamp Song V1 Songs drag a little bit She's Electric - tf are these lyrics Quite like Morning Glory - nice solo Solid, catchy, and consistent but a got a little repetitive and dragged on at parts 7.8/10
Any album that contains 3 mega hits deserves to be on this list. Even if the rest of the album is average at best.
I feel a lot younger when i listen to this Album.
Really solid album, so many hits, great melodies. Somehow I always feel like I should like oasis more than I actually do though. Solid album, but don’t feel like going back and listening again.
Maybe could be a 4.
Great album. Love the guitars. They have mastered them. Iconic album ofcourse. Fucking legends
I am beginning to understand why people like oasis
An album with 2 great songs (Wonderwall and Don't look back in anger), but there are some mid filler tracks. I would rate it at 3.5 stars, but there's not that option
By themselves, “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger” get you to four stars. And nothing else on the album jeopardizes that. A load of fun!
Favourite Track: She's Electric Lots of tracks that have been played to death
Good album, anyway here's wonderwall
This album occupies an interesting space in pop discourse: is it a masterpiece, or one of the most overrated records of all time? In reality, it’s probably a bit of both (or maybe a bit of neither?). I like it a lot. I’d only heard “Champagne Supernova” and, of course, “Wonderwall” before, and as a huge fan of Pulp, I wasn’t willing to have Oasis take the number one place in my Britpop Hall of Fame—but the album exceeded my expectations, despite (or because of?) its imperfections. So where does that place it in the overrated-to-masterpiece spectrum? I think the answer is this: it’s a spectrum that doesn’t work, a false dichotomy. The album can be both. I vacillated between giving it a 4 or 5, but when I think of the other albums I’ve given 5 to, this one just doesn’t hold up in the same way.
Rating: 8/10 Favourite: don’t look back in anger
Hello - 4/5 Roll With It - 4.5/5 Wonderwall - 3.5/5 Don't Look Back In Anger - 5/5 Hey Now - 3.5/5 The Swamp Song - Version 1 - 3/5 Some Might Say - 3/5 Cast No Shadow - 3/5 She's Electric - 4/5 Morning Glory - 4.5/5 The Swamp Song - Version 2 - 2.5/5 Champagne Supernova - 3.5/5
I've become more critical of Oasis as a band and the Gallagher brothers as complete dickheads the older I've gotten but this 'classic' (*retches in Gen X*) was released the year I turned 16 and no amount of realisation of mediocrity can trump pure skin-blistering nostalgia so this gets a 4.5. The only reason it doesn't get a 5 is because I preferred 'Definitely Maybe' and it would be unfair to put this album, as much as it had me dancing round the kitchen like I was back at Kaleidescope or Popscene again, on a level footing with that one.
Another Monster Album. These lads had it all, so close to the peak. Too bad about the sibling angst. Could been contenders. They've had success apart, and still sell out stadiums when reunited, barking out old anthems with aging gusto. The lyrics are good, the music great. The vocals are pure nasal, blowing long and loud. Kills that perfect score.
Arguably the peak of Britpop, full of big, anthemic choruses and highly successful singles. It's not my favorite Oasis album but its for sure very good. However, the mastering is terrible. The whole "wall of sound" of it all really leaves a lot to be desired.
really good, multiple new sings found
I can appreciate this being a banger of an album hit it lacks something, maybe it’s because Noel Gallagher is a City Fan.
Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Hey Now!
For the past two years or so I've been a big kick of listening to live albums of bands I like, particularly from the 90s. The ones that have gotten the most spins, if I had to reckon, are R.E.M. (my favorite band of all time), Soundgarden, and Oasis. I didn't spring for the bajillion-dollar Gallagher Brothers Pay For Their Divorces Tour, but I kinda wish I had. Those live recordings sort of lay bare how weird a term Britpop is. Oasis is not a pop group, they are a capital-R Rock Band. I like the live versions of their various hits and deep tracks because they let loose more, pick up the tempo, and allow both brothers to shine. Liam's voice takes on more of a fry from years of smoking and drinking, Noel really lets it rip on the outros. Don't get me wrong, this record sounds great, but it's too sleek, too produced, almost too pop. But that's a comparative quibble. This is absolutely a worthy entrant on the list. Even the weakest tracks ("Hey Now!" "Cast No Shadow" "She's Electric") are quite good, and everything else is S-Tier stuff. 4 stars, but 5 out of 5 pints of room-temperature lager.
Sooooooooo Sally can wait
I really dislike Oasis, but love this album. Bit tired of Wonderwall (not their fault, but every person who spent 3 minutes learning it on guitar and decides they could busk their way to salvation) but otherwise just a great album. Such a shame Liam Gallagher is... well just is. How he hasn't suffocated yet with his head up his ass is a crime against humanity.
does it mean i'm old if I call this a classic? god damnit...
I like this but prefer Definitely Maybe.
Bangers
Some rockers but sounds tired
my zoomer ass's first time listening to this and you know what not bad !! my fav is "roll with it"
Overall Rating - 3.83/5 (7.67/10). Excellent album. Straddles the line between Alternative and Traditional rock, excellent musicianship, solid lyrics, good composition.
My favorite album
Favorite Track: Champagne Supernova
Turns out I knew more of these songs than I thought based on the titles. Going into this I expected it to be mostly acoustic for some reason- by virtue of just hearing Wonderwall everywhere I guess. But even Wonderwall is more upbeat than I thought, it felt full, that's how you do an acoustic ballad. Highlights: Don't Look Back in Anger Hey Now! She's Electric Wonderwall Champagne Supernova
As for this genre I like Blur more than Oasis but still was a nice album. I particularly liked Roll With It and the title track the best.
Already a big fan of Oasis. I had only ever heard Wonderwall and Supernova. The rest of the songs felt like walking through a familiar feeling. Felt like home.
Roll with it makes me want to defenestrate myself
The first songs utterly shocked me with how beatles-esque it sounds, I legit thought it was John Lennon singing lead on "Hello" for a slight moment. I've always heard about how Oasis incorporates Beatles elements, and I always like 'ehhh, sure.' But listening to this album shows it straight to me with how much they were influenced by that band. All of the songs on the album sound like they could all be singles (except the swamp song songs,) which is crazy I'm not sure if I've heard an album like that before, but now I have if I haven't. The production is quite busy and cloudy which seems a popular characteristic of britpop albums. Highlight Song/s: "Hello", "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back In Anger"
Pretty easy listening song
Nostalgic. Nice album. I know most of the songs, I think. Haven't heard it in quite a while. It's pleasant.
A very solid album from Oasis
God britpop.
It’s Oasis and it’s good
An album I really enjoyed when it came out. A good balance of smooth sounding pop with a rougher rock edge. Obvious Beatles influence. I would be happy to have a copy of this in my record collection.
After the years, after the memification of Wonderwall, after the cocaine albums that followed, this remains my favourite Oasis album. Opener Hello is probably the most awkward track on here, due to the borrowing of the Gary Glitter song. The wall of sound effect is to the fore here, with the three guitars giving the songs a huge sense of space and scale, and the production is able to capture a band going into the stratosphere. Wonderwall is a cliche nowadays, but there's a reason everyone knows how to play it - Simple, straightforward, and full of emotion. A great song ruined by over exposure. My friend asked me if this is Oasis' best album. I said "Maybe..."
An epic, defining & original sound of the mid 90's 5 singles from the album in the UK top 2 reads more like a "Best Of" than a single album
брит-поп це щось, що хочеться слухати весною. цей альбом це буквально квінтесенція весняного настрою - наче відчуваєш на собі перші теплі промінці і відчуваєш bitter-sweet енергію. дуже надихає. fav songs: Champagne Supernova, Some might say, She's electric
Probably a 5 at full volume but my brother was asleep in the other room.
Enjoyed this way more than I expected - there were other tracks outside of Wonderwall that held up! Overall, fun britpop
