Give me alchemy. Give me sorcery. Give me wizardry. Thermatology! Electricity! I master five magics!!!
I was never a Megadeth fan, because I bought into the whole Mustaine / Metallica feud thing, and I loved Metallica. That's my loss, as this is a great album. I'm knocking off a point because I'm not a fan of super-shreddy arpeggio lead guitar (sorry Marty), but that's still a 4.
When it comes to metal, Rust in Peace is definitely a must listen. What makes this album stand out is the addition of a few new members who really stepped up the quality of the music. Marty Friedman on lead guitar brought in a more technical side with some really intricate solos. And then there’s Nick Menza on drums, his fast double bass kicks and technical precision really add to the intensity. The album’s complex time signatures highlight both the drumming and guitar riffs, giving the music that extra edge.
Almost every track rips a solo that’ll melt your face
So much solo wankery, Dave Mustaine’s guitar needs about 4 bottles of lotion a day to keep from chaffing. Honestly, this is fun thrash metal you don’t really need to think twice about.
4☆/5 10.30.2024
I wish I liked Mustaine’s voice more. The guitar work is amazing and this thing shreds.
Metal is an umbrella genre that moves forward from the past very fast. Decades after, it's always pretty hard to decide what stuck the landing in the long run. My first impression of *Rust In Peace" was that it was a kitsch fest. Compared to *Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?*, it had more impressive production values, sure, yet it was also a little less fun and more formulaic overall... But that's an impression I totally disagree with on my second listen. You do have some striking examples of thrash metal at its most "impressive" in this record. The question is, is thrash metal as a whole genre "impressive" itself? Or is it just laughable? Some of the lyrics and vocals (background or not) do sound unwittingly hilarious and hackneyed from today's vantage point, I'm still strongly feeling that! I sometimes complained about James Hetfield's vocals in the past, but he's far less insufferable than Mustaine when the latter fully indulges in grating vibrato-laden wailings, as in the interminable title-track closing this album. And as usual, the demonstrative and performative nature of the endless solos and riffs can be exhilarating or just tiring according to the moment--or your exact mileage on that sort of thing. For me, the exhilarating moments are found in the middle and last sections of opener "Holy Wars...", or in "Take No Prisoners" 's insane guitar riffing (redeeming the cliché-laden, grunting backing vocals). As for the tiring moments, they are are found in the ridiculous "Poison Was The Cure" and the supposedly "iconic" title-track. Oh, and "Dawn Patrol" is also a dud and a pointless, quote-unquote "goofy" interlude, which is not worth anyone's time. Some nice melodic moments elsewhere, though, more interested in harmonies than showing off how great a guitar soloist you are Which is a welcome breath of fresh air in that very cluttered style. "Hangar 18" and "Tornado Of Souls" (which I feel like someone like Fever Ray could actually cover without any of their fans batting an eye) are pretty easy on the ear, for instance. Great pop songs actually hide beneath the surface of those cuts. Good thing that it's not *too* obvious, though. Besides, some there sorts of micro-styljstic forays done by Megadeath on this one pay off a lot, as when "Lucretia" uses nascent groove-metal elements in quite an effective fashion, or with "Five Magics", which works pretty well as an overall less fast-paced composition with a mesmerizing, killer bassline opening the proceedings (and a killer guitar solo at its end, I readily admit it). Guess what makes "Rust In Peace" such a landmark album for thrash metal is its balance between accessibility for newcomers and the usual headbanging aesthetics expected in that genre. Too bad Dave Mustaine has become a sort of crypto-libertarian ass today. Not that this development really bears on my opinion of the album, recorded way before that. But still something that needs to be known... So all in all, and in spite of my nitpick up there, this record is, like *Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?*, a very good trash metal album. Now I even see why it is considered as superior to it. Not sure "classic" Megadeath played in a style I can *fully* enjoy 24/7, but feeling generous today. Giving a 3.5/5 grade for the purposes of this list of essential albums, rounded up to 4. Which translates to a 8.5/10 grade for more general purposes (5 + 3.5). Cool
Yup…that’s metal.
1st song is epic - so much to unpack. This really is a quintessential metal album: musically, it's all there - fast stuff, breakdowns, insane guitar work, legit (but maybe not great) vocals, group yells.
Assumed this was just going to be very silly, play as fast as you can and grunt a bit, metal. But so much more than that. Yes, it's still at the thrashier end, but there's proper tuneful songs with vocals here. Surprised and delighted. Didn't do quite enough to get the full 5, but very happy to have listened to it.
4.5
I definitely see why this is considered a classic. This album rules and there is no filler.
I'll quote a smarter writer than me... "Experts at the Smithsonian Institution reportedly questioned Monday why new art was still being produced after the pinnacle of aesthetic and creative potential was reached in 1990 with Megadeth’s fourth studio album, Rust In Peace. 'As the unquestioned apex of the entire history of the creative arts, Rust In Peace is the finest and last necessary piece of human expression'" A fun review for an ok album, well a good to great album.
Never heard this before. Better that I thought a speed metal would be.
Daft if you stop and think about what he's singing but the music largely carries you along.
It has some of my favorite songs, but not all of them are good. And the singer is not very good. Guitar is very melodic. Almost like classical music sometimes. Favorite song: Holy wars.
>Bang the hell out of the drums >Sing about sci fi action fantasy government conspiracy gore war gun bullshit >2 minute guitar solo >Song over This shit rocks
unexpectedly loved this one! I guess I enjoy Thrash metal now?
Not my favorite Megadeth album, but its messages and sheer anger still resonate uncomfortably 30 years later.
Conchemimare, este disco, que no había escuchado nunca antes, acaba de pasar disparado como Polaris al tope de mis discos favoritos de Trash y Metal en general.
Could listen more
i actually liked this more than i thought i would. close between 3 and 4 but i think ill go with a low 4. definitely shined when it was just music but was more technically crazy than i was expecting. and all the instruments SOUND great - not too heavy at all which is what i was expecting
Tbh this kind of thing has been scratching an itch recently! Definitely used to conflate this band with Metallica, only to find out that this band was founded by an ex-Metallica member! Excels in the art of making music that sounds exactly like its album cover looks like… or vice versa I suppose. Either way… thumbs up!!
Should explore Megadeth more because this was quite fun!
I was a big Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? fan when I was a teen but never branched out and listened to their other albums!! this kicked a lot of ass and was probably better than Peace Sells... who knew!
Another rocking Megadeth album, had tinges of other great artists like them. This album must have had the same artist who did Iron Maiden. Seeing a shackled skeleton attempt to activate an alien with a glowing green object as government suits look upon in Hangar 18 makes for a great listening experience. I kept Holy Wars, Hangar 18, and Poison Was the Cure.
The thrash metal equivalent of being launched into the sun. Hell yeah brotherrr

Megadeth lives or dies on its guitar licks, the rest is just okay. This album had some bangers, but also didn't highlight Mustaine's wild playing as much as I would like
Fun
Heavy but actually really liked it
Solid album
Of the “big four” of thrash Slayer is king for me. That’s my stance now but at one time it would’ve been Metallica. Megadeth has always been a close second or third, I’m just not a huge Anthrax fan so they stay at forth. That being said Rust In Peace has always been a favorite of mine by Megadeth. I remember being a teenager trying to learn the riffs from this album. When I was younger this album felt so mechanical, listening to it now with the context of modern day recordings it feels so raw, especially the drums. This was a fun album to revisit, it hasn’t been that long since I’ve listened to it but it’s the first time in a while I have it a focused listen all the way through. Now I’m looking forward to the Slayer albums that are on this list.
Seeing this album brought a smile to my face. I first listened to this in the mid 90s when I was about 14 or 15 years old. I went through a whole phase of listening to albums like this as well as Master of Puppets, Kill Em All, Vulgar Display of Power, And Justice For All and Ride the Lightening. I could not really relate to the themes in the lyrical content of a lot of these albums but I was absolutely fascinated by the speed, technical ability and ferociousness at which the music was played. Even today, Animals as Leaders fills a space for me with metal fusion instrumentals. I've always thought Dave Mustaine's voice sounded a bit corny on this album and in general but the guitar, drums and bass always kept me dialed in. Listening to it today, I felt like there were almost more instrumental parts than vocal parts. I could see how this album might have paved the way for other bands with a metal sound. The opener is probably my favorite.
Solid trash metal album, Megadeth at the top of their game.
\m/ \m/
Great album that marries thrash metal to speed metal. It was fun hearing what might have been riffs that were actually flamenco patterns that would traditionally be played on an acoustic guitar laid down with heavy distortion and whammy bars. Quality album, but lacking any tracks that I had to add to my collection.
doesn't quite have teh same special sauce as master of puppets, but fucking slaps and is peak 80's/90's thrash cheesy fun
Great album. I could use more knowledge on what delineates metal subgenres, but I've learned this is textbook thrash metal. Fair enough. I liked it! Nothing as strong as Symphony of Destruction on here for me, but Five Magics, Take No Prisoners, Tornado Of Souls were all solid.
Despite i'm not Megadeth fan ever, this album really liked me
The classic line-up. Mustaine's political lyrics to the fore. Essential listening for the history of metal - especially the impact on speed/thrash metal - probably the epitome of the movement. Angular, mechanical playing (there's something cybernetic about Mustaine) with Friedman's neoclassical style bringing in more human elements.
I think I have overestimated how loud heavy metal is because I was expecting this to be like wall of sound but it was not (sorry metal fans) but ye I really liked this it was good focusing music I actually listened to it multiple times throughout the day
fuck yeah guitar hero hangar 18
Very thrashy, but i actually really enjoyed it. It was really fast, adrenaline pumping. Hard guitar riffs and mad drums. I didn’t pay a lick of attention to the lyrics, but who cares. It was a bit repetitive throughout, the album very much had a sound, but I didn’t really get tired of it until the end
Just before grunge ripped the scene wide open, metal bloomed like a hothouse flower. Lean, brutal, with incredible guitar work.
this was a solid listen
I was talking to Jojah about this… I appreciated the technical skill of the band playing so fast so precisely. They are locked tf in. Also, the guitar solo in Tornado of Souls is absolutely rippin. On the other hand, this wasn’t exactly the vibes for driving with my windows down on this beautiful summer day, and I dont think I’ve yet found a situation where I’d seek it out. 7/10 I guess. I don’t really know how to rate this. Also just so everyone knows loobis is a big fat cheater. 🤬
It's easy to forget that MegaDave used to be legit harrowing, and his riffage was like the dentist drill: Babe Levy, strapped down, drill whirring like some ancient galactic death, the sound of a collapsing star. Total. Slayer sounds like Hell. Anthrax sounds like Gotham. Metallica sounds like the history of metal. Megadeth sounds like the Hegemony picking the bones of the capitalism eating itself. Gamma World, if you're nerd of a certain age. Returning to this reminds me that I am a nerd of a certain age, and as such, I always liked Anthrax the best (at least in this critical grouping) and after that, Megadeth because of the punk influenced riffage and intensity. The songs were about politics and sci-fi, and if you played RPGs and listened to Metal in St. Reagan's America, these things gave soundtrack to the dread which twisted your guts into the repetition of accepted forms and modes, cuz, Gay Commies or something. It reminds me that every Good Friday for thirty five years you've made a conscious decision to blast "Good Mourning/Black Friday" where ever the ashen domes congregate. It reminds me that MegaDave was always douchebag who used to make killer albums. The first four albums (even the maligned So Far...) are fucking classics, each a peculiar sonic attack (thanks Mssr. Calvert) orbiting or stratospherically within a nuclear wasteland. Peace Sells always seemed to me to be like the jets over the wasted U.N, sad and lethal reminders of how it went so horribly wrong. This one, with its spot on representation of the White male hegemony, witness the cosmic power of Vic Rattlehead, presiding over a frozen alien, feels and seems space battle. The drill could be the whirring hard drives randomizing death, controlling plasma weapons, charting more places in the galaxy that need white guys who run shit. This is cold horror, folks You are insignificant in the void. Thinking about it, the unexpectedly expansive sci-fi metal of AX7's The Stage borrowed a few of the guitar sounds, a few of the themes, and made an album that was, frankly, too smart for the "Hail to the King" lot. Rust is galactic horror. Total. It makes no sense to me to even think of it in terms of individual tracks. The changes in tempo, "Black Alert" riffs suddenly appear, and start blasting, these are usual for this era of the band; the innovation is it is 41 minutes of being a harrowing total. Strap in .
I forgot that first track existed. One of my favourite songs as a teen!
What would modern thrash be like without this album as an influence? The world may never know.
Not really a fan of heavy metal music but these guys are pretty awesome musicians. Can’t say the lyrics were much. And the singer’s voice was a bit grating to me.
Not bad
[kendall roy i am interested in becoming a meth head voice] i am interested in becoming a metalhead
This fuckin rocks. Has some issues with production and range, but ultimately slaps the entire way through. Instrumentation is next to none when it comes to thrash metal. Makes you wonder why new art is even being produced at all. 4/5
A refreshingly heavy powerhouse of tunes. Absolutely no idea what the songs were about, but they made me feel like I was driving down the motorway at 100mph with the windows down on a sunny day.
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Take no prisoners, Five magics, Tornado of souls
This is great. Actually preferred this to the earlier Metallica stuff
Never listened to Megadeath before, quite enjoyed it.
Not bad, not something I would seek out.
Whooo! Big Megadeth fan here. I was so happy to see this one pop up. In my opinion, this is the band at their best. A lot of bangers on here and "Tornado Of Souls" is one of my favorite metal songs of all time.
The warmup to Countdown to Extinction - a great thrash album!!
I like Countdown to Extinction more, but this is also quite good.
Hard not to bang your head along with.
One of those albums where I thought I would hate it. The melodies and guitar play brought me over.
Fair chugs along, sounds dynamic but can I truly differentiate this from other thrash metal albums here? My sense is this is a cut above the rest but I'm not prepared to invest time in the genre to find out more.
Awesome thrash metal album, truly chaotic and mind-blowing. Drawing inspiration from sources including person substance issues, to UFO Conspiracies - just look at that album cover - and The Punisher Marvel Character, and even the Northern Ireland conflict after the band were escorted from their Dublin show in a bulletproof bus. High octane go go go, Megadeath do not stop on Rust in Peace. Best: Holy Wars... The Punishment Due Worst: My Creation
Megadeth were my least favorite of the big four thrash bands, but this project has convinced me to give them a reappraisal, and I have been enjoying their stuff. I see in the reviews this is considered one of their best albums and I didn't necessarily hear that first play through - "Youthansia" seemed stronger to my ear - but on a repeat playthrough there was a lot I liked. More listens might get it bumped up to a 5! Minor synchronicity - I just read the (decidedly mediocre) fantasy novel that "Five Magics" was based on last year. I bought one of its (marginally less mediocre) sequels with paper round money as a teen, and in recent years have been satisfying my completist itch by accumulating full sets of all the series I only partially owned. Fave tracks - "Hangar 18" is probably my top pick - I feel like other tracks could grown on me though....
I thought it was pretty good, got a fortnite win on the last song. I think it helped me lock in 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I don't listen to lots of metal but I do appreciate it as long as it doesn't just descend into noise. I like this, good guitars, good drums. I'm not completely bothered by the singing either
Very similar to other bands like them. Not something I'd choose to listen to often, but it was decent!
Didn't have high hopes but actually really enjoyed this. Long instrumental intro to opening track really drew me in, then the singing started. Ugh. Not a fan of the vocalists voice but the instrumentals are bang on. Solos are long and technical without descending into five minutes of twiddly widdly. My Creation has a wicked bit of double bass pedal toward the end. Poison Was the Cure had an interesting palm muted bass intro. Overall, decent. Hate their imagery though!
i like the instruments but i dont like his voice leg bounce heaven
Guitar work on this record is incredible!! 4/5
Mon album préféré jusqu'ici. Je vais le voir au Hellfest !!! Tornado of souls <3 + Le Dave Mustaine des 90's 🤌🥵
Rusty metal
Solid trash
Lekker album, geen slechte nummers, veel goede.
Enjoyed this. Very energetic way to start the day, loved the heavy guitar and drums. My Creation was my favorite from the album, though pretty short. Overall great album.
I quite liked this album, it was very heavy metal, w8th many Electric guitar solos, 'violent' sounding drums which I found nice to listen to. The singer in the band (who is an ex metallica member) I feel has a very unique voice, which I find quite important when distinguishing different vocalists.
Pretty good album - How many Megadeth albums are on this list, though? 4/5
Finally, A good metal album. Not a cube star due the Dave's whiny voice and the fact that this isn't the original non remixed version.
Classicness
Good clean fat riffage, perfect juice up tunes.
The difference between Metallica and Megadeth is their methods of constructing songs. ‘Tallica have very carefully constructed songs that rise naturally and make for a really satisfying listen in the same way that a well built pop song does. Megadeth smash a load of great fucking riffs together and then spend half the song soloing over them. There are benefits to each method. I personally prefer Metallica for that itch scratching effect, but sometimes you need to listen to something that makes you want to run five miles, and kick every cop you see on the way
Soft spot for Dave's lads here, wasn't sure the whole album would be as good as the main singles but it's close
Plain and simple. This album fucks. I'm not the biggest fan of the vocalist though it's certainly not a turn off, just minor points off. Start to finish the album rocks at 11.
gubica 🤘
Fir what it is
The album cover fucks! Severely! The extent of my knowledge of metal is Enter Sandman tbh so I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this is pretty fuckin sick. Banger after banger, I think I'll add this to my general rotation.
Exactly how you think it will sound, pretty good for the genre
I'm not a big metal head, but Megadeth is pretty great. I'd put them up there with Metallica. This album is a 40-minute gut punch.
THE WARHEADS WILL ALL RUST IN PEACE this is the only Megadeth album I really like
Finally some Metal!!! Liked most of it. The lyrics are so cheesy but it adds to the charm. Song titles are also hilariously metal
Never thought I’d like more thrash metal than Metallica, but this is great. The vocals get a little annoying but so much fun to listen to and even more fun to notice their technical skill.
Holy Wars is one of the iconic guitar riffs. Poison Was The Cure has a cool opening bass line. Tornado Of Souls is killer. If I am in a heavy metal mood, this album should be in rotation.
This brand of speed/thrash I think I could like more if I spend more time listening to it. But the vocal is the weakest point. Plus kind of cringey D&D style lyrics I have somehow outgrown. But Tornado of Souls totally rocks. Fell in love with the guitar solo at first listen and I had to rewind to listen to again. This has not happened to me for a while.
this really shreds
Genres: Thrash metal Formed: L.A., U.S. in 1983 Run time: 13 songs, 57 min, 20 sec The fourth studio album by the American thrash metal band. Spotify: Least popular song: 2.1M Most popular song: almost 130M plays. The subject matter of the lyrics is quite heavy and dark: war, religion, control and aliens. They are, however, well written and imaginative. Musically, it is much heavier than the Rock music I enjoy. Although it is not my taste, I can appreciate the quality of the album, hence 4*. Listen Again?: No My Rating: ****
Great guitars, ok vocals. Good overall.
I wasn't in the mood for this when it came up, but hoo boy, is this great. A wickedly good thrash album by Megadeath, with searing guitars and a heavy as hell rhythm section. It's a really rich, weighty sound. And I have to give credit to Dave Mustaine and Mike Clink for really knowing how to put together a cohesive album that feels carefully crafted without sounding over-produced. The one weak point I would mention is Mustaine's vocals, which are somewhat uneven across the board. Fave Songs: Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, Rust in Peace... Polaris, Hangar 18, Take No Prisoners, Poison Was the Cure
best mixed megadeth album by far, but like a lot of their albums is just a little too silly to take the subject matter seriously somtimes
-4
This is the kind of metal I can get into, though the tracks did feel a little same-y toward the end of the album
Only 1 star off bc I'm not super into metal (yet). This was really fun. The lyrics sounded kinda stupid sometimes, but other times they were so edgy they looped back or actually good. The instrumentals were still way better than any of that, consistently impressive. Track 7 is the best.
I've never been a big fan of heavy metal, especially some of the recommendations for it I've gotten here, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. I loved the melodies, voice inflictions, vocals, lyrics, and the sudden changes in pace of the songs. The longer songs were some of my favorites, too, which is not usually the case. Amazing album.
I have quite a lot to say about this album, especially as a young and easily impressionable person I was listening to thrash metal (as a way to be independent, "free-thinking" soul). As a Thrash fan, I was listening to bands like Metallica and Slayer, so the rules said I had to hate the other two Anthrax and Megadeth. Who came up with those rules, I have no idea, but my group of friends was really "true" in this sense. Finally, after some growing up I did, the song "Hangar 18" completely changed my opinion about Megadeth. One thing being constant, I still despised Mustaine's voice and vocal, but I finally could appreciate his song writing skills. Awesome solos, riffs and speed, this song is definitely up there on the 80s/90s thrash pantheon. The rest of the album is sometimes good, sometimes bad, so I wouldn't feel comfortable giving it a highest praise, but for this single song, and massive amount of nostalgia that goes with it, I will give it 4 stars. I can't listen to this genre anymore now, but few exceptions like this are always welcome.
Jävla kingalbum
Classic metal, some lovely guitar wankery
Hanger 18 is amazing. This is metal I can get behind, not offputting at all
I have gotten a bunch of metal albums so far and it's my 3rd lowest rated genre so I haven't had a good track record with them. I've heard of the band before and given the description I was expecting something very different than what I got. It was great fun. Not something I'd listen to all that often but it was really enjoyable. Shame about how the album cover is absolute dogshit. 4.5/5
It's good. Better than most thrash metal. But even the hits don't grab me. I can list 20 Metallica songs I would rather hear and at least a few Megadeth songs as well, but that's the thing with Megadeth: a lot of their stuff is good but not great. A lot of their stuff doesn't grab you. It just sounds good, not great. 4 stars.
Rust In Peace represents the crossing point of Metallica's decline of quality music and Megadeth's rising pace of good thrash metal. I know I'm glad Dave Mustaine got fired, it gave him the opportunity to make this. 4/5.
I like it
I liked this far more than expected. Bands like Megadeth are right on the edge of what I enjoy; I love hard rock (AC/DC is one of my favorite bands) and love me some quality guitar playing, but metal often crosses the line from enjoyable badassery to unpleasant dissonance with grating vocals closer to growling or screaming than singing. Knowing Megadeth by reputation only (and the odd album cover), I fully expected "Rust in Peace" to fall into the latter group, but I was pleased to discover that it just squeaked in on the right side of that line. I found Marty Friedman's guitar solos particularly enjoyable (especially the ones on "Poison was the Cure" and "Tornado of Souls"). That dude can fucking shred. All told, this was precisely the kind of pleasant surprise I always hope to discover when listening to my album of the day. 🤘🤘
I started listening to Megadeth a few years ago when I rediscovered metal, and I'm glad I did. They're fast, their loud, their lyrics are poignant, and it's entertaining as hell...let's also not forget about Eddie. I really need to sit down & have a Megadeth marathon because this band is that good
My first exploration into thrash metal or anything kind of resembling this side of the rock genre. For some reason in my head it never seemed that accessible for a newcomer but I got pretty into this. Some really fun listening and honestly really good songwriting. Left me curious to check out more of the band and style - 4 stars. Fave track: Holy Wars…The Punishment Due
I think I'm always surprised by how clean and smooth so many of the 90's metal records are. I've never listened to Megadeath before, but I came away from this album very impressed. Really thumpy, head-banging tunes. Love how instrumental it is. Great gym music.
Surprised by how much I liked this, despite the guitar wankery
First of all, there’s something about this album cover that I both love and hate. Like it’s a tacky 80s metal cover but also kinda cool. Regardless, the album is good, fun metal that probably isn’t technically as good as Metallica but is still enjoyable to listen to. It’s still not my favorite genre ever but it was still a nice 40 minutes while I played far cry. Definitely a low 4
I enjoyed this record far more than I thought I would. I prefer the slower, more melodic sections, but some of the foot to the pedal stuff is highly engaging. I don’t know if I’d listen to it again, but the generator has given me Metallica and Megadeth in my first 30 selections, both albums I would never have listened to by choice, and I’ve enjoyed both.
After a long long day I was exhausted and not really feeling like thrashing. Decided to go for a run and used this album as a soundtrack. I realized pretty much right away that I had to know what it sounded like in all its glory. Ended up finishing my run early to listen in HiFi on the speakers. In a single sentence: this album is like if Rush made a heavy metal album. I think my only issue with the album is that I could take or leave Dave's vocals in some songs. Sometimes he sounds a little like Layne Staley, other times it's a little TOO "Rock God"-y. But then again, if I just think about it from a more tongue-in-cheek perspective I can just kinda laugh with him. By the time we got past "Five Magics" to "Dawn Patrol" I realized this dude is kinda silly. Anyway I'm going to just paste the listening notes I jotted down. 4/5 btw. "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" this track is epic. I have no idea how to otherwise describe it. Political. The SHRED. "Hangar 18" 2.5 minutes of soloing and instrumentals. I have nothing more to say other than aliens are real and shredding is aliens. "Take No Prisoners" I got goosebumps from this intro riff. THE BASS SOLO AT AROUND 1:45 COME ON YES. Take no prisoners, take no shit. Hell yes, brother. "Five Magics" mysterious Dungeons & Dragons bass solo. Pretty sure they start playing in 5/4 at one point. 5 magics / 4 shreds. Nothing but devil's horns on this outro guitar solo holy COW. "Poison Was the Cure" quick and dirty. "Lucretia" has a sick nasty intro. Rhythmically jazzy. I love that the chorus is just a banger of a riff. Holy cow another WILD solo. Dude HOW!? "Tornado of Souls" heavy metal breakup song. This solo wow. WOW. WOW!!! THE FRETBOARD IS ON FIRE. I AM ON FIRE. MY HOUSE IS ON FIRE. "Dawn Patrol" oh yeah here we go. This bass intro reminds me of DOOM. "Rust in Peace...Polaris" drum solo intro was perfect. The second half of this song. God damn. POLARISSSSSSSS. My hair is burning off, my face is melting, I am riding a nuclear bomb into the ground and laughing all the way.
I’m not a big metal guy, but I was jammin
🤘🗿🤘
Great guitar riffs. Very great rock album
Quintessential Metal !
As good as thrash metal is going to get.
Listen
Gitarlar enfesti. Overall: 7.5/10
favorite megadeth album. solid 4/5. Holy Wars has some of the best guitar in any song ever
3.5
I've never been crazy about Megadeath, but I do enjoy this album. The musicianship is off the charts. A total classic.
Energetic AF. I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics because the electric guitars stole the show.
Classic, killer, thrash. Nothing overbearing or too overtop, just tasty metal
Not my favorite version of Megadeth, but some classics are on this one.
Easy 4. I didn't realize.
Rifftastic!
Rules
love the riffs i feel like a star, very long though fav songs: hangar 18, five magics, tornado of souls
Love Metallica and Slayer, but wasn’t too familiar with Megadeth. This album is awesome. Riffs are great, drumming is impeccable, this is an awesome thrash record. Will definitely be checking out more of their discography.
Not really something I would seek out but damn if I didn't have fun listening.

I enjoyed the technical complexity of the guitar work. Overall a great thrash metal album.
It’s thrash alright. Mustaine and the boys bring it. So much energy and just enough bitterness to make any thrash fan very happy. Premiere ‘80s thrash reminiscent of Mustaines former band
So dramatic and over the top but I fuckin loved it lol. Definite repeat listen especially for working
who knew a thrash band called megadeth would be such a bunch of hippy new age peaceniks
Trash
The quality of Megadeth mainly hinges on how much you can tolerate Dave Mustaine's vocals. While Megadeth's brand of thrash metal is technically impressive and tons of headbanging fun, Mustaine has a nasally, almost whiny inflection to his songs. This makes the instrumental parts of Rust In Peace my favorite, such as the solos and sweet riffs that come on in Hangar 18. I personally don't mind the vocals that much because it's not hard to look past when the production and instrumental songwriting is so strong. It's not even comparable to other thrash bands at the time, it's in it's own league of quality. Aside from lyrics, Mustaine always knew how to write a damn good song. In culmination, this is a damn good album.
Solid thrash metal album. I find Dave Mustaine a bit obnoxious, but I can't argue with the consistency and musicianship of this album. It starts strong with Holy Wars ... the Punishment Due, and the closer, Rust in Peace ... Polaris is simply phenomenal. There's no room for filler on this album and I even listened to the demo tracks on the remaster. Great album.
I can get into this when in the mood. They definitely have some serious skills.
I’m a sucker for this guitar tone
This is not my favorite album of theirs, for this list I would have used Countdown to Extinction, and for all I know it is also on this list. He definitely has a unique and distinctive voice, which I'm not always a fan of. Of the Big 4, they are my 3rd favorite.
Kind of insane, but REALLY well done. 4 stars.
Really liked the sound, didn’t expect to enjoy this at all
Never imagined I'd like an album by a band called Megadeath, to the point where I nearly gave it 5 stars. Rock on dude. 4.8/5
You've got to love a bit of hobby glue metal and Megadeth are the masters of it
SOLID FUCKING METAL. HOLY WARS!!!
75/100
because i enjoyed this album so much, i will happily stare that i’m glad dave mustaine got kicked out of metallica.
I think I get thrash now. Practice your scales, kids.
I really enjoyed listening to this one - great rythm changes, amazing drumming following the bass riffs and then the layers of guitars - songs are just filled with great riffs. Also, a lot of great small gems, such as the acoustic guitar passage in Holy Wars. The vocals were not the best but sometimes reminded me of Mike Patton on Easy so that wasn't such a bad thing after all. Didn't really care much for the lyrics but the music was amazing. 4.5/5 down to 4.
...I think I like Megadeth now.
I think this deserves a 5 for musicality but have to give a 4 bc I might not listen again
This is a group who has clearly perfected their sound. The guitar on this whole album is unreal and the drum beats are fun. I'm not much of a metalhead, but this album has definitely sucked me in, Hangar 18 in particular.
-S Tier- Holy Wars…Punishment Due Lucretia Dawn Patrol -A Tier- Hangar 18 Five Magics Poison Was the Cure -B Tier- Tornado of Souls Rust in Peace...Polaris -C Tier- Take No Prisoners -D Tier- ***n/a*** AVG SCORE: 3.89 - - - Mustaine may trend a little more traditional in the world of Metal than I prefer -- and for that reason I think his separation from Metallica was best for everyone -- but this is a solid album top-to-bottom. There is nothing truly skippable on the entire tracklist, and there are plenty of serious bangers.
4.5
Good!
Badass
Their best record.
I made the mistake of trying to listen to this on earbuds this morning. It sounded weak and artificial. It lacked heaviness, despite itself. This evening I played again with my bigger headphones. Proper cans. Automatically transformed it into its true, ridiculous, heavy self. Lesson learned. Metal is for the evening and big headphones.
Ok
never boring! very good album, I’m just not a very huge fan of metal.
Probably the best Megadeth album. I'd still put on Slayer or Metallica and probably Anthrax over it but it hits hard.
Metal masterpiece
Hey black sabbath, do your very best metallica impression.
Loved it!!
Heavy metal is one of my favorite genres, and this is a classic thrash metal album. However, analyzing it in this list's context, I think it is a classical within the metal community and not a classical album for music history. It deserves some space when considering 1001 albums? maybe, but I'm not sure, even though it is an excellent Megadeath release. The songs are lovely, and the album sounds good, despite some repetitiveness.
This was a surprisingly good album. I've listened to and not disliked Megadeth whenever one of my friends played it, but this is the first album that really stands out. An absolute masterpiece of the thrash era. Musically, especially the first couple of songs, are the absolute top. And whatever you think of Mustaines voice, it surely adds a uniquely Megadeth sound.
Pretty good. Not always been heavily into thrash but this stands out in the genre!
Great album, very fast, very heavy, very 80s sounding. If Dave had stayed in Metallica, they could have made the same album over and over again as well!
Some great early thrash metal, I think it still holds up today.
I liked this best I think of the metal selections on the list so far. A lot of variety in the sound, not just chunka-chunka drone or endless shreddy solos. Though somewhat given to the typical metal sin of pompous self-importance, there seemed to be some humor in the lyrics too. The singing didn’t favor clear articulation though, and I couldn’t catch most of the words. At times the singing got overly caricature and affected too, really my only gripe with this (and a minor one, mostly the singing fit the music well, but it was definitely the weaker point).
One of the most impressive thrash metal bands out there. The most progressive of the big 4, they combine a hair metal 80s style (especially in the vocals) with experimental effects, constantly evolving their songs by the minute. The intro track "Holy Wars" is the perfect example, where you get comfortable in one phase of the song before an abrupt riff comes out of nowhere and pulls your attention elsewhere. All of them do this to some extent. The lyrics are awesome, painting gruesome scenes full of danger and spite. Everyone is super talented, and the production is incredibly impressive. There sounds to be hardcore influence in songs like "Tornado of Souls." I'm a fan of most of the songs, even though it can be hard to identify between them at times (but that goes for metal in general). Good mix of hardcore speed metal and the creepier groove tracks.
7/10. Actually pretty good
Genuinely pretty good! 8/10
4, great
Believe it or not, but I've never actually listened to this classic apart from Hangar 18 (which is still my favourite Megadeth track out of the ones I've heard). This thing is filled to burst with riffs and the production sounds fantastic. I'm just not a big fan of Mustaine's vocals but instrumentally this is near flawless for me.
Rust in Peace is certainly a thrashterpiece, I’m just partial to Peace Sells when it comes to Megadeth. 4.5
Brilliant, superb riffs throughout and never feels like too much.
Thrashtastic.
Неожиданно, но звучит крайне драйвово и приятно. Мне понравился альбом.
Better than the last Megadeth album I reviewed. Love this.
3.5
I’m not as fond of thrash metal as I am of hard rock or pst-thrash Metallica style metal, but Megadeath is solid. I like this and remember well when it came out commercially.
I have always tended to avoid Megadeth because I really can't be bothered with Mustaine's voice, his guitar wankery or his bleating about Metallica being mean to him. As a general rule I prefer my thrash more punk and less ginger but I surprisingly really enjoyed the shiny big hooks and proto-prog metal bits going on here.
I still prefer Metallica. Something about Mustaine's vocals just seems a bit off to me, but there is no denying that this is a fun record and that the guitar could disintegrate a young child off the mortal plane. The album art is really funny to me for some reason. Gently stroke the alien tube.
Fun and fast paced. Seems like it always develops in a way I would not have expected, and the fretboards must have been smoking when they recorded this. Not overly impressed by the lyrics, but I suppose that isn't the point in this genre.
Lekker album
I've listened to a lot of metal throughout the years, but to this day, 'Hanger 18' remains one of my all-time favourite metal songs, and my favourite Megadeth track. It's no secret that the shortcoming of Megadeth's music has always been Dave Mustaine's voice, but on 'Hanger', he manages to mostly avoid his signature squeaky, nasally sound and deliver a decent vocal performance that really works with the rest of the song. Then again, this being Megadeth, we're here for the guitar virtuosity of Mustaine and, on 'Rust In Peace', Marty Friedman. And holy shit, is that on full display in 'Hanger 18'. The solo trade-offs in the final portion of the song, interspersed with that fantastically heavy riff, is just genius. Putting aside my love of that particular track, there's lots to enjoy on this album. 'Holy Wars' is another Megadeth staple, and for good reason - the face-melting nature of its opening, its well-known flamenco-style interlude, the sheer head-banging goodness of the remainder - yeah, that's a hell of a track. Fortunately, while many of these other tracks are forgettable vocally and lyrically, god damn does the music really shine. 'Take No Prisoners' and 'Five Magics' are great examples, particularly the insane guitar solo work at the end of 'Magics'. And then, after what's a gradual, slow-paced beginning to 'Poison Was the Cure', it just erupts in this incredibly energetic, thrash-y riff that carries the song into its brief yet brilliant ending solo. The remaining songs on the album are all worthwhile, particularly 'Tornado of Souls'. 'Dawn Patrol' is a surprising addition, bringing a much slower-paced, brooding element to the album. All in all, a seminal album of the thrash metal era, and arguably Megadeth's best. 4.5/5.
A classic in 80s thrash
I am not the biggest Thrash metal fan but Megadeth is always pretty solid.
Loved it
Buen disco de trash-metal con riffs de guitarra muy intensos y con una voz muy reconocida. Canciones con intensidad y con fuerza. Buenos temas en general.
Мастейн красавчик! Хетфилду пизды дал!
3.5/5 Guitar is good, vocals/lyrics take or leave
Joskus yläaste-heviaikoina yritin kuunnella megadethiä ja sillon ei napannu, mut kyl tää oli aika kovaa tykitystä.
What can I say? Thrash at its peak
Another angry man with ginger hair thrashes about religion, politics, warfare, fights against drug and alcohol addiction, UFO conspiracy theories and even the Marvel Comics character Punisher. You can practically smell the BO and Lynx Africa from here. Best Tracks: Holy Wars... The Punishment Due; Hangar 18; Tornado of Souls
Molta carica, il giusto mood e il giusto "peso". 3 stelle e mezzo, arrotondate per eccesso.
metal af (but not screamo so thats good). would be very tough on guitar hero.
Classic album and classic album cover. I will never get used to Dave Mustaine's voice but that's okay. Great experience to listen through again.
Never thought I’d like more thrash metal than Metallica, but this is great. The vocals get a little annoying but so much fun to listen to and even more fun to notice their technical skill.
Zo ontzettend goed, echt een klassieker
I have heard a few Megadeth songs, but not many. Fun fact: Marty Friedman (guitarist) went to high school here in Laurel, MD. Mustaine’s vocals… take a bit to get used to. But the musicianship is clearly there. You can clearly see the line of evolution from Metallica to Megadeth.
I've actually never listened to Megadeth before this album. I wasn't that much into metal in my teens although I liked some. This album was intense. I loved the riffs in most of the songs, especially Holy Wars, Hanger 18 and Tornado of Souls. Can definitely hear their influence in some of the modern metal that I know.
Great thrash album
I enjoyed this one. A lot. Surprise! When the first track, "Holy Wars...the Punishment Due" started, I thought, "I'm noticing the guitars and I like what they're doing. I'm noticing the drums and I like what they're doing. It's not boring and it's not noise. I'm moving with the music." Dave Mustaine, as I would notice through the whole album, did interesting, varied, and effective things with his voice. You get that change in tempo and the scary deep voice comes out, and it was so cool. "Take No Prisoners" employed a heavy metal backup call-and-response chorus, and I realized that there needs to be more of that. This one made me want to move my body. "Five Magics" went from the anti-war themes into a bit of geekery. Extra points for bringing "wyverns" into it. Extra points for the Exorcist voice effects and the demon backup singer "Possessed with hellish torment!" I love the cackle at the beginning of "Lucretia." And this song gets a little jazzy and swingy in a way I much appreciate. "Lucretia rocks away...yay!" "Dawn Patrol" is a 30-year-old warning about climate change done in a creaky, creepy voice. "We end our lives as moles." "Rust in Peace...Polaris" was inspired by an anti-nuke bumper sticker. Wow! Last comment is that while I usually have a hard time with guitar solos, I really liked these, and I couldn't tell you why, but I did.
Megadeth never were and never will be even on the same level as Metallica for me, but this is a really good album.
Temas rápidos y bastante virtuosismo
Loved the guitar. Will listen to this album again to give it more consideration and pay more attention.
I don’t like thrash metal, but this album rocked. The guitar is amazing. You can actually hear the words. Amazing.
A band I somehow missed completely when they were around. Definitely heard the band's name a lot, and I knew Dave Mustaine's name as well, but had not listened to this album or any Megadeth before. I almost never listen to any thrash metal (very little metal of any kind, really -- nothing against it, just not super into it), but I am really enjoying this album. They play amazingly well, so wild and airtight at the same time. How can they stay in time so perfectly well at that speed? Wow. The guitar playing is fantastic. I'm indifferent about the vocals, although the style makes sense for what they are doing. Definitely have respect for what they created and recorded here.
Like every Megadeth (is that really how they spell it?) album I've checked out, it has awesome artwork and incredibly intricate music. I'm not in love with Mustaine's voice or lyrics, but that's a minor complaint. Overall a really fun metal album 4/5
-I like "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" and I especially liked the guitar shred towards the end -I like the clear chorus in "Tornado of Souls" -I like change of pace in "Dawn Patrol" -Some of the album felt same-y, but overall I enjoyed it and will be doing more listening
Solid album. Love it. Best lineup of the band.
4 thrash metal go crazy
Great album
Some corny tracks, but shreds overall
One of the best Trash Metal albums of the history
Not a fan of the vocals, but the guitar work is great
\m/
Classic album. So good!
Simply love Megadeth! Definitely one of their better albums!
Alltså, det här är fan rätt bra.
Metal is a lot of fun and rust in peace is peak.
Megadeth are pretty easily my least favorite of the "big four" thrash metal bands. Maybe a blasphemous take for diehard metal heads but to me, their sound is just more generic. Only song that really stood out to me here was Tornado of Souls. Love the dumb album cover, and theyre undoubtedly excellent musicians but it's just mid to me.
Better than what I thought.
Rust in Peace is one of those albums that almost feels impossible to ignore, even if you're not a metal fan. I went into it expecting relentless aggression and little else, but what surprised me most was how technical and meticulously crafted it is. Rather than sounding like pure chaos, the songs are tightly structured, with intricate guitar work and constantly shifting rhythms that reward close listening. Released in 1990, Rust in Peace is often regarded as Megadeth's defining album and one of the greatest thrash metal records ever made. The lineup featuring Dave Mustaine, Marty Friedman, David Ellefson, and Nick Menza is frequently considered the band's strongest, and it's easy to hear why. Friedman's melodic, exotic-sounding guitar solos complement Mustaine's sharp, aggressive riffs, creating a sound that's both ferocious and surprisingly sophisticated. Tracks like "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" and "Hangar 18" immediately stand out. "Holy Wars" shifts effortlessly between breakneck thrash and more melodic passages, while "Hangar 18" is practically a showcase for guitar virtuosity, ending with an extended series of increasingly elaborate solos. Even if the vocals aren't particularly accessible—Mustaine's nasal, snarling delivery is definitely an acquired taste—they fit the music's tense, cynical atmosphere. Lyrically, the album leans into politics, warfare, conspiracy theories, and nuclear anxiety, reflecting the end of the Cold War era. Those themes give the record a sense of urgency that goes beyond simply being loud or aggressive. As someone who doesn't usually listen to metal, I found Rust in Peace far more engaging than expected. Instead of relying solely on speed or heaviness, it emphasizes precision, musicianship, and composition. While I probably won't become a regular thrash metal listener overnight, this album helped me understand why it's held in such high regard. It's less about brute force than about technical excellence, and that craftsmanship makes it accessible even to listeners outside the genre. Rating: 3.5/5— Challenging at first, but ultimately an impressive display of musicianship that lives up to its legendary reputation
Solid album of early thrash metal songs. Particularly liked thr title track.
Wanted to give this a 4/5 for the absolutely incendiary guitar work, but while the riffs and solos were excellent, I think the record suffers a bit from Mustaine's mediocre vocals, which fails to tie all the fretboard firework into coherent songs; also given the album's length, a bit more variety in terms of tempos and dynamics would have been good. Still, cool solos man.
Je me réchauffe un peu au Thrash metal! Tranquillement pas vite… metton.
Great album as a kid. Now its a bit repetitive in the drums and riffs arrangements. Still its raw and hard and really fast paced.
Seeing as I am not keen on metal, I want to highlight this album as one of my favorites in the genre. It is fast and dynamic without having many off moments throughout. 8/10 [KEEP]
Mustane's voice doesn't do it for me, but the musicianship on this album is fantastic. A metal classic for a reason.
i kinda like it!! gitaar POP OFFF
I always hated Megadeth and they are pretty lame but this album isn't so bad.
I like rock. I like metal. I don’t particularly get thrash. No doubting the skill or musicianship but the weakness for me is the vocal and lyrical content. Which is a problem given it’s his band! Some nice hooks, Poison…, Lucretia esp. But it took me two or three listens to get to them. First listen I found quite repetitive with little melody. Everything my parents claimed of the rock I liked as a teen 😂 Second listen - much more rewarding. Going to give it 3 stars though esp for the solid drums and bass, and some great guitar kicks from Friedman.
alright
It goes as far as thrash metal can go for variety, but you can still hear the formula.
Not a thrash metal fan at all but at least this album is largely devoid of the throaty growl vocals I associate with it. Quite melodic in its own way too. Bit of a creepy coincidence that on Sky TV there is a new documentary drama just released entitled The Alien Autopsy Scandal. So a timely selection or are other forces at work here? 3/5 14/6/26
7/10 - I've never been into metal and that's one of the things I appreciate about the 1001 project; I liked this and I never would've listened to anything like it before. I don't listen to any metal so a lot of the songs are pretty samey to me, but it didn't detract from the experience - still really enjoyed it! Favorite part was the call and answer on Take No Prisoners. Plus, the album cover? Might be one of the best ones thus far Fav Tracks: Take No Prisoners, Five Magics, Rust In Peace...Polaris Heard before? ---–- ❌ Saved a Song? ----- ✅ Saved Album? --–-- ✅ Will Listen Again? -- ❌ Album Cover -------Fuck George H W Bush
Heavy metal isn’t my go to genre; however, this was a good album & I understand why Megadeth is a standard-bearer.
I’ve heard this before and I used to own it on tape, but never replaced it after I got rid of my old tapes. Megadeth is my least favorite of the big 4, but they got the best guitar solos and probably the best guitarist, mainly because m Dave Mustaine is such a jackass. The guitar parts on all these songs totally kick ass, but the songs really run together and it’s all got that late 80s thrash production where the eq makes the sound really thin, with the high and low ends dropped and somehow the mods are scooped as well. It’s not bad, but a metal record needs to do more than one punch, it’s supposed to keep the listener on their toes and ultimately defeat them but in a way that they come out stronger in the end. It’s supposed to build character and it does not accomplish this. Still good for rocking out and throwing devil horns of course.
I'm a metal fan. But that doesn't mean that I only listen to metal. No, my interest in music is very diverse. But to be honest i'm not familiar with Megadeth. Sure, I know them and I know they are popular in the metal scene. But I never listened to them or barely listened to them. But this album is a decent one. It doesn't have bad songs on it. 3/5
It's always the vocals that let me down. I've listened to 2 Megadeth songs since 2007, the last one being in April of 2019. I'm guessing it didn't leave any particular impression on me. The music is plenty punchy, but the vocals just don't have the heft they need to back up the music. I don't need a death metal growl, I don't need screaming, but some vocal strength might push this over the edge to something more intriguing for me.
7/10
So many metal bands overlooked for another megadeth album. Horribly skewed list
Lucretia
i have the same opinion of this album as i do with peace sells, i respect this albums influence and the performance on guitar is admirable but its just not something i enjoy listening to all the time 6/10 Favourite: Holy Wars... The Punishment Due Least Favourite: Take No Prisoners
I like this album, and I admire the musicianship and how much it contributed to metal history. But there's just something about Megadeth that doesn't quite click with me the same way that other classic thrash metal does. There's no denying that this album does what it does perfectly, everything from the insane guitar riffs, aggressive vocals, and intense drumming make it one hell of an experience. But the whole time I'm listening to this I just can't help but think about how much I prefer Metallica or Slayer. I can't really put my finger on it, I guess it's just one of those where there's some tiny detail in the way they make their music that just isn't quite to my taste, but taking a more objective view I still know a good metal album when I hear one.
Hangar 18 is awesome, but the rest of the album is largely one long song.
First Listen: Unfortunately didn't have time to give this album as deep a listen as I would've liked. That being said, I did give it 3-4 listens. OVERALL: I may have a personal predisposition against thrash. I love early heavy metal, and I have been enjoying metalcore and other subgenres I've started exploring, but thrash metal has never clicked as much as I'd like. That being said, the talent on this album is plain as day, the guitar work is stellar. The way they weave parts in and out of each other, and create parts in which you can't point out rhythm guitar against the wall of lead guitars is amazing. There was one song with a sick bassline, but I feel as if it was wasted on what boiled out to be a spoken word song. I personally can't take the vocals seriously, but again that's a me issue, not the album or Dave Mustaine's fault. Overall I did enjoy this! Quite a lot more than the Metallica albums I've tried in the past. I'll likely give this a proper listen in the future. 7/10 T3: Poison Was The Cure, Tornado of Souls, Holy Wars
Day872 - it’s kinda good but i kinda hate it.
This is a really solid and well put together album that is, simply, not my thing. There are even a few songs in here that I thought were very cool, like Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, Poison Was The Cure, and Tornado of Souls. But it is just simply not my thing, or something I'd listen to otherwise. Nothing but respect for Megadeth, though.
This is #day650 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… here's to one of those thrash metal classics, yeah. I've never really gone much further than Metallica when it comes to the genre. I mean, I've checked out some of the biggest albums by their counterparts, but I wouldn't say I'm equally into those bands. This record is obviously technical, and its themes hit differently today, especially when your country has been living through a full-scale invasion for almost five years, but... I think a 3 out of 5 is the golden middle here, so that's what I'm going with. Looking forward to #day651.
I like metal and thought the riffs and instrumentals were great - the singer is way too buried in the mix. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as his weak nasally voice is definitely the downside of this album, but still felt a bit unbalanced. Good overall style and themes, though. 2.7/5 -> 3/5
good heavy metal, no ac dc
Probs should be a 4, but just not
Megadeth’s Rust in Peace serves as a high-octane showcase of technical thrash that unfortunately suffers from uneven pacing and vocal delivery. While "Holy Wars" overcomes a shaky middle section with its iconic guitar transitions and "Take No Prisoners" provides a visceral, "meat-grinder" intensity, several tracks like "Five Magics" and "Poison Was the Cure" rely heavily on strong finishes to justify their slower starts. The album hits a high note with the standout "Tornado of Souls" and the eerie atmosphere of "Dawn Patrol," but these peaks are balanced out by the disjointed nature of "Lucretia" and a closing title track that fails to leave a lasting impression. Ultimately, it is a record defined by brilliant guitar solos and explosive energy that is occasionally held back by its own structural choices.
My discerning ear for metal rates this not as good as Metallica but much better than napalm death.
niet slecht maar gew teveel prikkels lol
Hangar 18 is really cool. Tornado of Souls too.
great instruments (guitar) , horrible vocals
3 1/2 Stars: Metal isn't normally my jam, but I don't mind when it pops up as my assignment. Who knew the long-hairs could be so socially conscious in their mosh pits?! Great finger work when those guitars get going. And Dave's voice isn't my favorite but it does the job. I s'pose I can add this to my gym soundtrack.
This one wasn’t terrible, a couple of the songs were bangers
More upfront thrash metal. Guitar is really good and the bad plays well together. Liked this. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again
Like Sabbath on Steriids
I listened to the whole thing and I have no strong feelings one way or the other. It’s all technically very impressive and not grating to listen to, but at the same time I don’t really remember how any of the songs go aside from there being fast and intense guitar solos. I think it deserves to be on the list, it’s a likable foray into listening to metal, but unless you’re really into the genre, it will probably play without much holding your attention specifically.
⭐⭐⭐ Trash-metall. Bäst är Holy wars, Hangar 18, Take no prisoners
Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
This was my first Megadeth album and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The stretch of five magics through tornado was top tier metal.
cool ritmo y pleasant. Nada grounbreaking pero no lo odia
Hangar 18 is the best song on the album. Classic thrash metal.
7/10
I was afraid I’d gotten all the metal albums already, so this made me very happy today! I love metal album days!
The music is not bad, but I didn't like the singing.
bangers!
nice one... good tracks but nothing over
