It's bloody fantastic
classic
I cannot handle how awesome this is. The song titles are SICK but also funny and not too self-serious. That's what I'd say about the whole album, honestly. These guys are having fun and we're just along for the ride. Some of the most insane guitar solos I've ever heard to boot. Crazy that tour de force albums like this are on the same list of albums as like 15 Elvis Costello snoozers
El mejor disco de la historia del heavy. Aguante Megadeth. Mi primer 5 en este proyecto.
Amazing thrash metal classic. Marty Friedman's brilliant guitar work brings this album to a new level. Peace Sells is still there best album but these is close second.
Probably the greatest metal album of all time. Not MY favorite personally, but objectively the greatest. This album makes Metallica's best work look like child's play.
"the guitarrecord"; still sounds fresh and energizes
yeah this is great - always liked it but it is much more accessible and melodious than I remembered.
An absolute class in Thrash Metal. There's honestly nothing new I can add to this album's discussion, but I'll try anyways. The overall sound is great, but Dave's singing might not be for everyone, I'm honestly inbetween liking Mustaine's vocals or not, since I don't dislike them but feel like Metallica's James Hetfield can give his songs the vocals they deserve, especially in the detour from thrash they were doing around this time (Load and Reload) and definitely in the actual thrash albums like Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning and my favourite: 2008's Death Magnetic. I honestly haven't been able to listen to any Anthrax or Slayer yet, so I can't compare the stuff that they were releasing at the time to this, but overall even if the output from those bands just happened to be better at the time, this is still definitely worth a listen if you enjoy Thrash. Dawn Patrol sucks ass though, jeez Dave stick to high lyrics
I, um, surprisingly really this album 👍
A classic of thrash. Dave's vocals are a acquired taste I suppose you could say, but the music itself is great. After this it was diminishing returns but those first few Megadeth albums are beloved to many a metalhead.
One of the best metal albums ever made, and certainly twice as good as anything Metallica recorded.
Fuck yes, five stars is the least I could give this masterpiece. This absolutely rips. Don't make 'em like this any more, do they?
Razor-sharp, unpretentious heavy metal.
One of the best metal albums
One of the greatest metal albums
Old but goldie
Classic/10
An absolute cracker
I fucks wid it. Favorite track is Hangar 18.
5/5 - This album kicks ass
Megadeth, baby. If you don't headbang to this at least just a little, I don't know what's wrong with you.
A masterpiece.
One of the greatest Albums ever created. I knew this before though, so I might be biased.
A fantastic record that really has it all. Hot guitar solos, riffs, a huge vocal range, and smart if somewhat edgy lyrics. Way ahead of their time. Somehow all their songs sound unique here. Hanger 18 is my favorite song off the album. I don't see any weak points here, so I'd have to rate it 9/10.
Megadeth’s at their very best and quite possibly the pinnacle of thrash metal itself Give me Alchemy, give me Wizardry Give me Sorcery, Thermatology Electricity, magic if you please Master all of these, bring him to his knees I master five magics I give this five stars
Like a cross between the Megaman and Doom soundtracks but more metal.
One of the best metal albums of all time!
One of the finest heavy metal albums ever made 5/5
Awesome!
I’d never listened to a megadeth album before. It was great
Another banger of an all time great metal album.
About as good as guitar gets. The solo in tornado of souls gets me everytime
The best thing that ever happened to Dave Mustaine was getting kicked out of Metallica. The best thing that happened to Metallica was kicking out Dave Mustaine. Some Mustaines were born to run free.
probably their best album, it's very solid and very few boring tracks. cant give 5 because mustaine is not the best dude ever
Fun as hell and just what I needed to deep clean the kitchen Had a real stinker of an album yesterday and this degreased my ears much like I degreased those filters
Day 324 Just ace isn’t it? Highlights Hangar 18 Lucretia Tornado of Souls
The first two tracks feel like being in a wind tunnel...in a really good way. It's probably how a dog with its head out the window of a moving car feels. It drops off a bit from that high, but there's enough changes of tempo to keep it engaging, and the guitar work never gets boring.
ENERGYYYYYYYYYY 🪦☠️
Nice. So much better than expected. Truly spirit of Heavy Agger.
I enjoyed it. It's what I want from a metal album (mostly).
This was so not the vibe for today. 3.6.
My least favorite of the "big 4" and Dave Mustaine fucking sucks as a human being. That all being said, this is solid thrash and is still MILES better than what the last few weeks has brought me on this generator so I'm rocking.
Okay, this one definitely gets bonus nostalgia points. Discovering this album at 13 was just right. Proven by the fact that my kid did the same at around the same age. Holy Wars is to this day one of my favourite metal songs (and a fun drumming challenge).
Hell Yea.
Pretty cool stuff in here! Shout out to Guitar Hero for showing me some of this stuff back in the day.
Old school speed metal has never really been my thing but it's a good album!
Riffs galore
No. 207 Some fantastic technical guitar playing on here along with some great riffs. Mustaines voice is made for metal
As a fan of Slayer, Sepultura and Metallica, I expected to like this a lot, but this didn't really work for me. I haven't listened to them much and I think the thing that puts me off is his voice. I'm not convinced it's that good. As someone who likes lots of singers people think are nasally and whiny, this is too nasally and whiny for me. Elements of this are a bit dated, but overall I like it, although I enjoy the instrumental sections a lot more than parts where Mustaine is singing
Remove the distortion and that's some pretty sweet jazz riffs going on. And the drums! Not my usual order but that was pretty fun
First Listen. Familiar with Megadeth (thanks Keaten). I have very mixed feelings on this album. On the one hand, the instrumentals are the shieeeeet; a lot of moments with many of the tracks having the lead guitarist (I think Mustaine?) going absolute HAM with the sickest guitar riffs I've ever heard. On the other hand, the tracks tend to "drag on" (this is personal taste) with Hanger 18 being a good example; having over half the song dedicated to the instrumentals that I couldn't really tell you what the lyrics were or what the song is even about. This "drag on" feeling is the best I can do when describing my grievances with this album. I'm conflicted. This album contains complex guitar riffs and solos that you really have to listen to for you to notice the distinctness from the tracks. These things I love but I have no clue why I'm not just immediately clicking with this album. Perhaps I need something else with metal-music that trash metal doesn't have a focus on. Or maybe I'm not conflicted. Maybe I'm just talking out my arse. I can list a lot of more positives than vague conflicted feelings. This album and the performances from Mustaine, Friedman, Ellefson and Menza doesn't need me to say "oh yeah yeah they good they good". Dawn Patrol really sucks tho :/ Overall: Just vague, potentially snobby, feelings that disguise themselves as criticism. The performance of this album is 11/10 and nobody needed me to say it. More a 3 than a 4. T3: Hangar 18, Lucretia, Take No Prisoners
4 stars
I haven't really "gotten" Megadeth in previous album listenings, but with Rust in Peace I think they earned their spot as a Metal band to keep an eye on going into the 90s. This album fucking rules and gave me one hell of a pump at the gym, so you know this thing was fuming full of energy and swagger that Megadeth simply didn't have prior to this. Despite coming in at a surprisingly shorter than expected 40 minute runtime, Rust In Peace feels full and like it uses every moment to the maximum. It is lively, striving for each and every kick ass moment it can hit, and feels lyrically dense to really be a cherry on top of an already amazing sounding project. It is a shame it took Megadeth so long to get to this point, but when they reached it man was I impressed. I feel there is a lot more that can be said by more skilled and knowledgable Metal heads so I will leave it to them. As for myself, I very much enjoyed this and will surely be back!
cambio mi suerte
Is geil, ohne Frage. 4
I'm listening to this on my current pair of headphones for the first time and the mixing is awesome. Can hear the bass loud and clear. "Holy Wars" and "Hangar 18" are among Megadeth's best songs. "Poison Was the Cure" and "Tornado of Souls" are awesome too. Marty Friedman is great and Dave Ellefson can play the hell out of the bass. This is a pretty solid thrash album, better for me than the average Megadeth album. Awesome riffs, awesome solos, good stuff.
Some fantastic technical guitar playing on here along with some great riffs. Mustaines voice is made for metal
no es el tipo de musica que estoy acostumbrada a escuchar pero me gustó, y ademas me gusta q tenga un trasfondo político.
3.75
Easily the best metal album I've ever listened to like what even! High 4
This is a solid Megadeth album. They set the bar with this one.
It's good.
wow, why cant they be THIS good all the time???? sure its guitar wankery but it might be the guitar wankery of all time.
FUCK honestly just not big on thrash metal. this isn’t too bad so far though honestly. holy shit this is kind of incredible. fuck you dave mustaine, for actually making me enjoy a megadeth album 😭 fucking jumpscared me at the end. fuck that. it was cool though. uhh. yea it was fun. first two tracks kind of carried, then it was a bunch more of the same. good though.
3.7 Preface this by saying I went through a heavy metal phase (literally) in my teens so very familiar with Megadeth. Always thought that other than Metallica, the thrash genre didn't really offer me much, as much as I enjoyed seeing Slayer and Megadeth live. However, this is a pretty solid outing on reflection. The first two tracks are easily their best two, and two of the best in the entire genre. Then it admittedly runs out of steam. Prisoners and Tornado are pretty good, but othera fly by forgettably. Dawn Patrol the only real low point. However, it's pretty good, and although it doesn't hold a candle to Ride the Lightning or Master, you could argue it's better than Metallica ever released in the 90s so Megadeth win that decade at least.
Not my music but very well done
This sounds better than all the thrash albums by Metallica. If only Dave could un-morph out of a sock sniffing goblin, he'd be unstoppable.
From a songwriting perspective, I don’t always love some of Megadeth’s choices. But Dave Mustaine’s and Marty Friedman’s talent is undeniable, and there’s always something interesting going on from a guitar perspective. I actually kind of listen to Megadeth just to hear Dave Mustaine do mindblowing shit on guitar. Half the time, I could take or leave the song itself. As a showcase for talent, Rust in Peace scores really high for me. As a record I want to listen to often, it doesn’t score quite as high though parts of it are reeeaaally fun. 8/10
Strongest Megadeth album, a few weak songs mar it sadly.
Classic thrash. Yes it’s all slightly silly but the riffs can’t be denied, and along with Metallica this music feels like a final great hurrah for the 80s era of heavy metal, which would obviously decline into irrelevance for a time in the 90s. But this was among its high points, great stuff.
Really enjoyed this album, better than I expected. Insane guitar sections with the shredding and skillful instrumentation. Dave Mustaine I was not familiar with your game
This album was fucking awesome. I need to listen to more Megadeth.
7.5/10
4.4 Great way to start a Monday morning. Ive never really been a huge Megadeth fan but have seen a couple of shows. This was really good, I listened to a remaster or remix that sounded awesome. The only knock for me is the lyrics and vocals are a bit corny in spots. But instrumentally for a thrash album, this absolutely rips.
Sweet metal record. Megadeth's Master of Puppets. Even if Dave Mustaine's voice is a little...unique.
Much better than Metallica.
Dave Mustaine, the sketchiest of sketchy uncles strikes again. It’s metal perfected, in my opinion. Breakneck speed, and all sorts of change-ups throughout.
metal
skön lyssning, kul metal typ. är emgadeth metal? Känns så. Gillade det!
Banger
I was in Metallica
Sick solos, relentless riffing, gnarly shredding, brutal chugging, operatic falsetto, wailing screams, dumb guy acting smart lyrics, goofy as hell and totally self serious, more sick solos. It's a guitar nerd's dream - super technical and played at a breakneck pace - but is way more melodic and accessible than I remember it being - amazing how much time fades some forms of aggressive harsh music.
This was the perfect band, and maybe even the perfect album, to make that classic Onion bit work.
A damn fine album, they're really tight on this one. 3.9
Great album, classic ‘deth back when they were trying to be better than Metallica, not be just like them.
7/10 – Good
I have listened to this before. It’s fantastic. Holy Wars…The Punishment Due: 10/10 Absolute masterpiece. Hangar 18: 9/10 Great tune. Take No Prisoners: 8.5/10 Really solid. Five Magics: 8/10 Nice opening bassline. It’s impossible to know where this song is going. Poison was the cure: 7/10 Lucretia: 6.5/10 Tornado of Souls: 9.5/10 Fantastic. Solo is unbelievable. Dawn Patrol: 7/10 great bassline Rust in Peace…Polaris: 7.5/10 Not bad.
Did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. It did however make me feel like I had a green monster in a '05 Mustang with spray painted rims
Really good.
Great Songs: Take No Prisoners, Five Magics, Lucretia, Rust in Peace... Polaris Good Songs: Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, Hangar 18, Poison Was the Cure, Tornado of Souls Mid Songs: Dawn Patrol Bad Songs:
I like the tempo and the intensity of the guitar but the tracks do start to sound pretty similar and blend together in my mind and become hard to destinguish. I think that takes away from the album a bit. Standouts Holy Wars... The Punishment Due Tornado Of Souls 4/5
It's good, very Megadeth, but I don't quite understand why this album in particular made the list. It doesn't feel special enough, you know?
Fuck yeah
I thought I wasn't gonna like it
I am not the biggest fan of Dave Mustain's vocals but the instrumentals are that perfect I can't give it less than 4*
SOLID METAL. I get the appeal for sure.
I could do without the alternate repeat tracks on an errand like this but it's such a solid album. How these guys weren't as big as Metallica is just dumb luck and marketing machinery.
I've said it before. I'm a metalhead but I don't like thrash. I realise that's probably partially because it's the most American metal genre. And my dislike of Dave Mustaine means I've basically never listened to Megadeth until now. I am sorry to say I was wrong. This was pretty enjoyable. It had a lot more melody than I expected. Far more accessible than say, Anthrax. Holy Wars, Lucreatia, Poison... and Tornado of Souls all stood out. I'm sorry (not sorry) Dave Mustaine, I'll give your band a bit more chance. Your voice is pretty crap though.
nice
This is pretty great, some lovely riffs and I really like Marty's lead playing. Personally I am more familiar with (and prefer) countdown and compared to that I don't feel this album is as interesting or inventive. But it's still great. Ace doesn't have the greatest voice, but he's not just screaming and he doesn't have that American drawl like pearl jam style you sometimes get with American heavy bands, so I enjoy his uniqueness.
I hadn't listened to Megadeth much before, but this was great! Awesome guitar work, super energetic. Hangar 18 is so cool. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought. Metal can be melodic and heavy at the same time.
Really good album. Goes by really fast, pretty much enjoy the whole thing.
Not enough of a metalhead to agree with that Onion article, but yeah this kinda ruled. Maybe I'll get into Megadeth one day?
4/5
I like the genre, but I always thought Megadeth was fairly second tier. They had a song or two I liked, but they weren't doing much too too interesting. On listening this week though, I'm giving them a plus one. It's a solid album. While I don't love Dave's voice, with that nasally almost whine-y thing he's got going on, it really does work as a sneer on most of these tunes. Still a bit hard to listen to for more than 4-5 songs at once though. (Gotta imagine it's hellish in concert.) The guitars are awesome throughout. Cool riffs, fun solos. The whole thing works. Bass and drums are solid, but nothing world-shaking. Not knocking them. Just solid without any noteworthy flares I noticed. It's a good rep of the genre. Going to call it a 4
4/5
Damn, this was pretty great, a pure example of metal. Weirdly, I really want an orchestra to perform the album, i think it would work incredibly well. Favorite track was Lucretia
COKIYI AMK
A great time all round
Rippin!
CHAVE DMS
Cool album.
Liked this a lot better than most hard rock/heavy metal albums on the list.
I've not been huge on Megadeth in the past, but something about this album was just hitting.
+1 for the album art
Tornado of Souls... what more needs to be said
Pretty good. I like metal but haven't listened to Megadeth much at all.
This is a good album, technically fine, great start, no midpoint dip. However, I never really gelled with Megadeth apart from Peace Sells. Relistening decades later, I'm left feeling there's still something missing from this album to make it worthy of a full five stars. Four stars seems fair.
Yeeeeaah tornado of souls is my jam
Went into this without much enthusiasm but it ended up beating my expectations. The guitar work really lands. And bonus points for the gonzo album cover - it feels like the maximal version of whatever subgenre of album artwork this is.
Every Megadeath album gives me the sensations of being a huge masterpiece ruined by Mustaine's voice. But this one is really good tho.
This is a very good heavy metal LP. There is a similarity to Metallica or vice versa which is a positive thing. First 2 tracks are awesome.
Not quite a 4 for me but a little better than a 3 so a 4 it is.
first listen something classic about this
Good heavy metal. I was in the mood for it, too.
Not a whole lot to complaint about here. This kind of rock sort of gets cheesy to me, also a little repetitive. Not a bad sound though.
Amazing album. Pure trash!
I always liked Megadeth and this album was no exception. I enjoyed it, but the songs seemed to all be so similar it was difficult to tell them apart. Overall I liked the album and would listen to it again, but I can't in good conscience give it 5 stars.
Just a constant, fast-paced barrage of drums and guitar from beginning to end. So energetic and frenetic. Had my head moving for most of the album, like a forced headbanging. Singing was just fine, but the instruments are what shine in this band. Wailing guitars and steady drum beats are what make this album special. I don't think the songs are varied enough to really be able to differentiate between them. The album itself is monolithic, with each song blending fairly cohesively into one another. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's actually pretty entertaining.
I actually expected to like this one a little more than I did. Musically it’s pretty fantastic, especially the rhythm section. Some of the double bass drum and bass guitar sections are pretty wild and super tight throughout. The guitar leads are fantastic too. My issue is Dave Mustaine’s vocals. I know he’s considered one of the great metal band leaders, but I find his vocals relatively weak amongst other legendary metal albums. That said, if he’s the creative leader of the band he created a pretty compelling album sonically here.
Fast, ferocious, love the band name
this is better than pantera but i cant explain why
I rusted
Your typical thrash metal jams paired with lyrics that are either criticizing of society's ills or proposing weird conspiracies. Not as compelling nor slickly-produced as the next release, Countdown to Extinction. You pretty much know what you're getting with Megadeth - crunchy rhythms, shredding solos and sneering vocals. Sometimes you feel like head-banging and Megadeth is a reliable go-to for that.
Phew, that was a trip. I love a lot of hard rock, but thrash metal is a bit beyond what I typically like. That said, this album has some meat to it that I enjoyed. There's a level of musicianship / musicality that is better on this record than most of their contemporaries. Mustaine’s voice is unique. That doesn’t make it great, but it’s not bad either. Just different. He is hard to understand though, and that hurts some of the songs. The solos in here are really good, which makes up for some of the other issues with this record. In the end, not amazing, but it was good, especially for the genre.
3.5
Solid steady heavy
I enjoyed this and the Onion review. Tight
Absolutely killer guitar work. The riffs are crushing and the solos soar. Suffers from 80s metal vocal syndrome, but loses no stars
Someone asked Kerry King of Slayer, who is better between Metallica and Megadeth. He responded, "Metallica has a singer." This album is a musical masterpiece but Dave's voice just doesnt do the music justice.
I played this and my boyfriend said "this is way better than Metallica." So that's good.
The rage and guitar solos were there, but it didn’t feel like it rose to the same heights as a Metallica or Slayer.
Thrashy. Good album overall. 4/5
I’m metal-ignorant enough that I barely know the difference between Megadeth, Motörhead, and Metallica. I like loud guitars, but don’t like the common metal vocal growl or, often, whatever that drum style is called. This didn’t offend me in either of those ways, so I dug it. Will listen to again.
4/5 - This is at the tail end of the metal era I enjoy, starting in the early 80s. Holy Wars... and Hangar 18 are both pretty awesome, so this rises on those alone for me. I doubt this is going to turn anyone on to thrash if you don't like the style, but Rust In Peace is a solid pick for the list in the genre.
Super duper talented bassist and guitarists holy moly! Singing ruins it for me. I hate that low rumbly yelling. But wow talent!! 7.83/10 4/10
Having not listened to a ton of Metal in my day, I couldn't give you an accurate description of each Metal sub-genre. But when I started reading about Megadeth, the term Thrash Metal made so much sense as a title for this genre. The playing on this album is so fast and so accurate it is genuinely impressive. I actually really enjoyed this. It also seemed liked it didn't lay into the cliches of metal music as much other bands like Slipknot or Iron Maiden feel like they do, trying so hard to portray the image of what metal music "is". It's clear these guys are borderline psychotic about their approach to music, playing just on the edge of what's possible but still pulling it off exceptionally well. Super impressive and genuinely fun to listen to.
When King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard started releasing metal albums I was a bit disappointed because I just wasn’t that into it and I wanted more microtonal bananas. Over time though, I’ve grown to love those albums just as much, if not more, than some of their other work. Seeing them play some of those tracks live absolutely helped. Megadeth feels like a direct inspiration to Infest the Rats Nest all the way down to the themes of environmental awareness and nuclear Armageddon. It’s a bit corny, but it rocks and it’s fun! Heavy guitar riffs, solid drumming, decent singing. I’m still not exactly a metal head, but I’m coming around to it for sure!
Whoa! This is an awesome and exhilarating album of high-speed thrash metal with riffs, drama, and killer solos. It's overwhelming to hear music this dense played so fast. Sometimes I could hear the complexity and intricacy of it all. Sometimes it whipped by me in a blur. Either way, the energy is contagious. Going along for the ride is a lot of fun. Amazing album cover.
Thrash thrash and thrash some more.
Wicked!
85% Best: Holy Wars...The Punishment Due; Hangar 18; Poison Was The Cure; Tornado Of Souls; Rust In Peace...Polaris Must-Hear? Sure
Solid thrash for sure.
Trash isn't one of my favorite metal genres but I will acknowledge the impact Megadeath have had on many bads in other genres that I listen to today. While there isn't anything bad outright to say about the album and the guitar and drum parts are really good even great in many songs its just not pulling me in and making me want to go back.
This album is a smattering of 1 or 2 masterpiece tracks at a time and then filler inbetween. Im talking Holy Wars, Hanger 18, filler... Lucretia, tornado, filler... Polaris, my creation Im hesistant to call some of these masterpieces as well. And again with the weak sauce, metal. Its a great album BUT GIVE ME SOMETHING HARD
Hell yeah. *bass lines intensify* HELL YEAH.
Best 90’s thrash album, imo. 🤘
Liked this a little more than I expected, good energy and sound, solid 4
7/10 Favorite: Hangar 18
I enjoyed how over the top this was. Its a real product of its time, but it shreds so hard and tries to be metal as fuck so I deeply respect it for that.
4+/5
#731. Much better than Peace Sells, but still could be improved with anyone else on the microphone. I'm going to give this a generous 4 for reasons I don't quite understand myself either. 4/5: yes
While it ranks a hair below thrash classics like “Ride The Lightning”, “Master of Puppets”, or “Reign In Blood”, this is an undeniable thrash classic with great riffs and exceptional guitar work on brilliant pieces like “Hanger 18” and “Tornado of Souls".
Solid speed metal \m/
I once again think this sounds almost identical to Metallica. I actually like the instrumentals more from Megadeth but as soon as the singer comes in its like ah fuk its Metallica. 7/10
Megadeth has some of the coolest artworks, I really love when the artist puts in effort into the album cover / marketing. The music itself: FUCK YEAH 8.5/10.
Some weaker cuts but a whole lot of bangers, straight boomer thrash anthems on this bad boy, big ups to hangar 18 3.5/5
In Rust in Peace, I'm sure they say "discharge my pillow". Holy Wars and Tornado of Souls A really fun, angry teenage boy record. Felt alive listening to it.
Doesn't have any of the band's notable ear-worms but you're still going to pretend you're hitting a double bass pedal under your desk while listening at work. This album rocks and I will listen again, most likely the next time I'm trying to lift heavy things.
Wow what a refreshing change after an awful Monkees album. Blistering guitar speed, varied song structures, a good length. Only thing holding this back from a 5 right off the bat is that I don't recognize anything on the album and it's not very "hooky"
The vocals are pretty mid but this thing has riffs for days. Pretty melodic, very fun.
Obviously some cool guitar playing, not really a metal fan but for some reason I don't mind Megadeath
Really solid metal album, doesn’t get muddy even though it’s decently heavy. Got a bit overlong but was still easy to listen through. 4/5
This kind of blew me away. I wrote Megadeth off for so long, but this rocked hard.
A thrash metal classic and deserves a good rating. Pro-Tip: Do NOT listen to the 2004 remaster/remix version of this album, it is absolute garbage. Listen to the original release. 9 tracks of really good thrash metal, a pinnacle to Megadeth's success, which then began the slow downfall into what they are now. Hangar 18 is outstanding. Best track on the album, cannot skip that one. 3.62 / 5 stars
В принципе, слушабельно, когда хочется чего поэнергичней. И, главное для меня, мелодично. 6,5 из 10.
Lekkere gitaartjes. Rustige nummer is saai Gewoon meer hype gitaren

🎵 Album #48 / Megadeth – Rust in Peace (1990) 🗯 A shredder’s dream — musicianship so ridiculous it borders on inhuman. I haven’t listened to this since I was a kid bashing away on drums, desperately trying to keep up. No chance. The playing on here is next-level: Dave Mustaine’s riffs, Marty Friedman’s solos, Nick Menza’s machine-precise drumming — it’s all fucking insane. Spinning it in the car reminded me how much this stuff thrives at volume. It’s thrash at its most technical and ambitious, a full-on showcase of what metal could do when you pushed speed, precision, and complexity to the limit. Is it essential? Depends who you ask. It’s very of its time — pure early-90s thrash aesthetics — but it still has diehards who worship it for good reason. For me, I just enjoyed the hell out of it. Verdict: Killer (whether or not it’s “essential,” it’s undeniable) For fans of: Metallica, Slayer, Testament, playing way beyond your grade on guitar
It's fun
I was headbanging too hard for the motorway! Loved this
I reckon this is a ripping album. The musicianship is intense, tracks like hanger 18 are belters and yet I don't think I'll go back to it. It is a product of it's time and my tastes have moved on. I could see 20 year old me with this on heavy repeat...50 year old me not so much
Silly, dramatic, heavy, and (mostly) played excellently. The best combo. Immediately hit by some great riffs in Holy Wars. The vocals are qualitatively strong (fun classic "metal shout"), but something about what's being sung doesn't sit quite right with me. It feels meandering, almost as though it's being improvised on the spot. (Or at least the melody is.) Almost everything is one note, giving off a sort of punky impression that I imagine is a bit of a hassle to sing to your friends without them getting profoundly annoyed. I hope the remaining tracks give some more creative liberty to the singer. The latter third of the song is where the instruments really start to shine, with a blistering guitar solo and significantly more energy in the drums. The following track, Hangar 18, gives off the feeling of something off Rush's Moving Pictures. But with less interesting bass and drum parts. Still, it's already a little more interesting than the opener. As with the first song, the guitar work in Hangar 18 is phenomenal, particularly at the sudden tempo change about halfway through. Very Alex Lifeson-esque. Dave Mustaine's got some great chops. Becomes almost "malfunctioning-computer-core" towards the end. Take No Prisoners keeps the party going. Mirrored guitar and bass, a furious vocal back-and-forth. And at this point I realise this is not music to be sung. This is music to be felt. And suddenly my appreciation for Megadeth's sound skyrockets. It helps, too, that Take No Prisoners sounds a bit like Black Sabbath's material, or (again) a much heavier and less complex Rush. We head into Five Magics, and heck yes! The band is actually willing to change moods! This is something I have trouble finding anywhere on this list, let alone in the thrash metal aisle. Megadeth, for all their love of blundering through the heavy metal jungle of the late 80s/early 90s, manages to harness a darker, more mysterious, less... "thrashy"... sound here. Great solo at 3 minutes, by the way. Maybe the best one so far. The album continues in much the same way, with what I'd describe as "banger after banger". The lead guitar continues to be the highlight. I found myself hitting the "Like" button right around when the guitar solo started in each song. My main gripe with the entire record is that I couldn't tell you anything about any of the lyrics or vocal parts/melodies, unless they were actively bad. They're brutally unmemorable, made as filler to appease the crowds (because audiences are repelled by bands without singers for some reason). This problem is most apparent on Dawn Patrol. The "singing", really just toneless growled talking, is pretty terrible. And the lack of lead guitar doesn't help. At least it's under two minutes. 4/5 Key tracks: Hangar 18, Take No Prisoners, Tornado Of Souls
Great!
Para nada mi vibra, pero entiendo por qué es tan celebrado. Bien heavy, bien filoso. Nota: 3.9
7/10
Why haven't I listened to Megadeth properly until today? It's like the things I love in early Metallica, but more of it, and it's really good! A fun listen, and I've got a definite note-to-self to listen to more albums by them :) Thank you 1001, this was a good "discovery that I knew about but hadn't got round to trying".
Hell yeah brother 4.5
Listened to this, was high pace!!
I think I thought this would be totally different from all the metal I've heard so far and I think it is, its certainly miles better than any Metallica I've heard. The riffs are just a lot more catchy and interesting I think, and the playing is obviously amazing, some of the solos are a bit excessive, but I can sort of get past that. The singing is always the biggest problem for me in metal, but I think it works really well here, its not too whiny or just straight annoying like the guy from Metallica. It also sounds like he's being slightly political on here, which I think adds a bit of actual substance. There are also some concept song or songs from the perspective of a certain character which I think I missed some of, but its still interesting. Favourite songs: Holy wars...The punishment due, hangar 18, Lucretia, Tornado of souls, rust in peace...Polaris. The second one is definitely my favourite, it doesn't really even have a metal beat which is good. Overall around 7/10
This was a fun listen. They have riffs for days and and the precision is impressive. I’m not likely to play this very often but it’s a metal classic.
Cool sound mostly, but overall plain and uninteresting. This is the metal I'm not a great fan of.
I always think I’ll like metal until they start singing. Still this was great.
I can honestly see the appeal. Genuinely this is some good stuff, in another time and another life I would really enjoy this. Such sick guitar riffs throughout the whole thing.
4/5
Hahaha this was fun!
Am I... a thrash metal fan? Decades of listening to indie and folk rock, and this was a punch to my ear holes, but in a good way. It made me want to pick a fight with a mailbox, but as I was in the office, I had to settle for gently nodding my head and bouncing my legs.
Enjoyed. Proper decent metal. Shades of Ministry by times - or, rather, Ministry borrowed a riff from "Poison is the Cure". 4 stars because it's - well, it's old school!
One of the greatest metal albums ever. I really don't have much of a personal connection with this but the riffs and the overall instrumentation is really great, so many bangers here
I've ignored Megadeth for years (to be fair I never was a huge fan of thrash and related metallic genres even though I do love Master of Puppets and Reign In Blood) but there music is actually pretty solid, from all point of view. It won't be on heavy rotation, but that's good.
The problem I have with Megadeth is that their hit songs are always twice as good or better than the rest of the album. In this case the first two songs are great and have amazing solos. The rest of the album just feels weaker in comparison. Still a good album though. Mid 4.
This one's not dead either?? It's mega but not really death??? Megadeth--one of the most tumultuous bands of its time, at least that managed to live. I'm not the best for metal history, but 1990 seems a bit late to call this record groundbreaking. That's not an insult though--the band is tight as hell, and the vocal approach and treatment is solid, even if it doesn't quite match up to the rest of the band. I blame 90s CD production, but the album is lacking some dynamics that'd really put it over the top. One easy example--the mode change in Hangar 18 could've been a really epic moment, but since everything is the same volume, it gets glossed over. Even a bit later in the same song--let the band drop back a touch in volume for the solos, then they can jump back up and hit you in the face for the riff!
Rust In Peace was certainly a great album. As a huge metalhead, i have always been aware of this album's existence, i even went as far as to use Tornado Of Souls for a college project but i have never actually listened to this album in full until now. This listen however, showed me how much i really do like it. The guitars and bass are some of the best parts of these songs as they were fast and hard hitting with all the other aspects of the music being not too far behind. I will admit that some of the songs do feel like they lack focus at points but it was never enough to really hamper my enjoyment. This album is still a great listen regardless. Best Song: Holy Wars... The Punishment Due Worst Song: Dawn Patrol
Good stuff. I struggle to separate the art from the artist and I think Mustaine is a huge douchebag but this album is a fun listen and I'm going to try to keep it in rotation for a bit.
Really liked it, full of energy and brilliant playing, 4 stars
Not as familiar to me as other albums of theirs but pretty damn good
Super sorprendente. Me esperaba heavy aburrido rollo iron maiden o así y me llevé una callada de boca y follada de culo. Riffs contundentes, solos técnicos y canciones muy guapas. Volveré. 8.1/10—>4/10
Almost boring because it’s so iconic.
Early Megadeath was fast good thrash gold. Peace Sells was a bit better but this has everything I want and it’s great. Listened to this on a ride to a camp out in the summer and I cranked it up and loved it. 4 stars
This was fun! 4/5
15 year old me loved this one, with its angst and rebellion. My musical tastes changed quickly so probably haven’t listened to it in 30 years! Amazing how much I remembered and how quickly I was singing along. The songs have great energy and I really don’t think there is a weak track. Holy Wars and Rust in Peace beautifully book end the album and perhaps the other tracks don’t offer much variation apart from the very accessible Tornado of souls. Some of the solos are a bit cheesy but plenty of great riffs. Looking back this is a lot tamer than it seemed at the time and was a great revisit.
Holy fuck, I did not expect to love this quite so much. The guitar absolutely shreds. Perfect length album, no overly-long tracks. Meaningful lyrical content. Well, there you go, Megadeth, I didn't know. A lot of time for that cover too.
Good
Love the music but Dave mustaines voice always grated on me
The album art for this is freakin' awesome. I can't say I've ever listened to Megadeth even though I've definitely heard the name. Wrapping up Five Magics and so far can say this shreds, especially with the guitar solo at the end of this song. Hangar 18 kicks ass. 2nd half didn't sound as good to me, which lead me to give this 3.5 stars. Will round up to a low 4 though.
Hangar 18 is a great one. Nice solid metal that has no issues at all. Good one to run to. Thought about giving it a 4, but it's not quite there. Enjoyed it for sure! EDIT: Gave it the 4. I originally held it back because I was grading it on the metal scale. One I listened to Waylon Jennings and debated giving that a 4 I realized that Megadeth > Waylon Jennings
Just some hardcore thrash from Megadeth. Don't think I have ever listened to this album fully but definitely know 6 or 7 of these songs very well. Hanger 18 is such a good song. Exactly what I needed to buttf*** some work for 40 minutes.
Wasn't supposed to see these guys at Roo but still hurts seeing their name and knowing I didn't even have a chance :( sadboi Kev. Hangar 18 is sick. I feel like this was on Guitar Hero growing up. Was a pretty rippin' album I must say. I didn't enjoy the weird demon talking but other than that I was jamming out.
Pretty good stuff. Not like the biggest fan of this style of music. But I can't deny the energy and commit to the craft of the genre.
One of Megadeth’s three best albums. Not all their material is great but this one is very good.
A glorious slice from a different time. Some of those drum parts are shocking honestly.
J'ai découvert 'Rust In Peace' en 2010 grâce au tournois 'Best metal album of all time' organisé par le site internet 'The BNR Metal Pages' : il a finit premier devant 63 autres albums ! =>4.5/5
Kept me awake on the drive to and from work. Probably a 3.5.
This thing shreds.
If you want to listen to complex rhythms, changing time signatures and top class guitar playing, I've learned that really thrash metal is the place to go. Everything is sonically more interesting than a lot of the things I've heard here. Plus the thrash metal fans just seem to be having a lot more fun.
That was fun! Some nice guitar solos. The vocals are a bit goofy sometimes though.
Un clásico, como Hangar 18. La portada... en fin. No es un género que domine ni que me entusiasme, pero no es un mal álbum. De hecho es uno de los mejores según las revistas especializadas.
4.1 2x whole album hits hard
I had some preconceived notions about metal but this was just class musicianship. Those dudes know how to PLAY and I’m all here for it
Headbanger
I've never listened to Megadeth before. I have nothing but respect for this album - it absolutely shreds.
Very surprising. Should have listened to these guys more in the day, especially the beginning of the album.
Generally not a fan of Megadeath, but this album was better than expected
The Onion once ran an article with the fantastic headline "Humanity Still Producing New Art As Though Megadeth's Rust In Peace Doesn't Already Exist". Jokes aside, this album is roughly what you'd expect from a leading thrash metal band of the time. It's heavy, fast, kind of ridiculous ("Tornado of Souls" for example is such an absurd image that I can't help but love it). What surprises me is how politically conscious the band seem to be, writing about nuclear nonproliferation, The Troubles in Northern Ireland and, well, alien conspiracy theories. Ok, so they're not exactly Noam Chomsky. But I can't help but enjoy the energy and destructive imagery that's so exaggerated that it's also kind of hilarious. Try not to take the ghoulish images too seriously. The crowds in Northern Ireland did take their rendition of "Anarchy in the UK" seriously though when it led to riots, but I think that says more about The Troubles than Megadeath.
Nice thrash
Fuck yeah. This rips. I'd prefer an instrumental version.
Great album, along with the best of the band, consistent all the way through, heavy riffs, great lyrics, and incredible drum work.
That kicked ass. Best song: Hangar 18
Relaxing metal
This is more like it: a blistering record that's as good as any metal I've ever heard. Such a tight album, with no downswings across its 40 minutes, though the highs of a track like Hangar 18 are hard to compete against.
This is very homosexual music, really great fun
Previously rated: Peace Sells...But Who's Buying (4/5) ************************************** Trash metal that never really lets up. The vocals are still a weakness for Megadeth, who I put a step below (old) Metallica and Anthrax.
Great album to run to
Great thrash album, strong start with "Holy wars", great solo on "Tornado" A few "album cuts" but generally a good listen
Listened to this first thing in the morning with financial markets collapsing around me. Oddly it seemed to work.
4/5 Omaan makuhermoon osuvaa raskaampaa rytkettä. Albumi joslus tullut kuunneltua aiemminkin.
Fun metal
I was really into this as soon as I heard the opening guitar riff! Megadeth - a band I've heard so much about but couldn't name you a single song. They were good!! 🔥 It did all start to sound similar towards the end. But that's ok if you enjoy this sort of music and some badass guitar 4 ⭐️
Good head banging fun!
Always enjoyed some Megadeath. I know the lyrics can sometimes be downright cheesy or make no sense, but that is all part of the fun to rocking out to their music.
great album 9 out of 10.
Amazing fluid guitar solo on Tornado of Souls. It was a wow moment for me. The album reminds me of playing little fighter 2. I’ll just blast a “tornado of souls” to slay all my enemies. Err.. cringey but secretly gratifying..
Maybe I do like metal? Or maybe listening to anything fast paced while driving with the windows down on the first warm day in weeks is always going to be a pleasant experience. First time actually listening to anything Megadeath has released, and I was pleasantly surprised. This album rocks so damn hard.
I don't know how to rate this one. Musically, it's awesome! The songs have a constant driving force behind them. The singers voice is great. The guitar solos are crisp and clean. One of the better metal albums I've listened to, however, I still don't really like metal. Personally, this would fall into the 2 category for me, but from a wider perspective it's probably a 4.
This was good, I enjoyed it as much as the other album. Made work less boring, and I enjoyed reading about their mascot, Vic Rattlehead. Might check out more Megadeth that isn't on this list.
Fair play, for music that’s not for me this was descent. Generous 4
Si on offrait à un quidam d'écouter du métal, c'est exactement ce à quoi il s'attendrait. Voilà qui exemplifie parfaitement le genre, sans sonner sclérosé non plus.
Don’t usually get into classic heavy metal but this album did get me pumped. Truly the entire song structure is just the salad beside the beef wellington guitar sits, but honestly it does a good job. I’m into it
One of the best metal albums I’ve listened to. Although that’s not particularly saying much as I don’t listen to much metal. It was also surprisingly melodic for a thrash metal album. The guitar solos were insane and just generally the lead guitar work was on another level.
I think this is the best thrash metal album of all time Used to be gym motivation music, still does the job to get you pumped
its a bop but i also had to listen to it in the background. It doesn't feel fair to give it too bad a rating, but what i did hear i enjoyed.
I mean, it's Megadeth; what do you expect? Cinematic, apocalyptic lyrics laced with mysticism and sci-fi, occasional melodic coasts, winding song structures, and road-burn solos. What is there not to like? This is by far and away their best release, and one where I can be certain that I'll enjoy whenever I click play. 'Hanger 18' has always been my favorite song off of this album...I just love that opening riff and closing solo. It's far from the only highlight here, though. I love the call-and-response between Mustaine and the guitar on 'Five Magics'. The sharp bass on this record is impeccable all around, but 'Poison Was The Cure' and 'Dawn Patrol' were such great (and short) showcases of how almost funk-inspired the basslines here are. I also really love the almost atomic-siren sounding guitar tone of 'My Creation', It's a short track, but such a fiery and haunting closer nevertheless. It sums up nicely the general feel of this album - it's cartoonishly bleak at times but also drenched in these feelings of paranoia that are very much real. This balance is reflected in both the music and lyrics. Mustaine, as a vocalist, is far from my favorite in metal; I mean he's no Dickinson or Rob Halford. With that said, I've always enjoyed him more as a lyricist. The opening 'Holy Wars' is an obvious political highlight, but I always found the apocalyptic nuclear-scare 'Dawn Patrol' to be so much more spine-crawling, even more so than the more in-your-face follow-up title-track, which shares similar themes. I also really enjoyed the more personal direction taken on 'Tornado of Souls', I love how the lyrical direction churns into optimism alongside the rest of the music here. I mean, this is thrash metal, and metal in general, in one of its finest forms. The amount of eye-widening guitar tones, heavy riffs, and switch-ups here alone make this a more sonically rounded-out metal album than many others of its time.
It isn't really my thing, but it is an essential album and a pretty good listen.
still cute and tame
Maybe it's today's mood but I'm four tracks in and this is miles ahead of "Peace Sells..." (#249). Pretty great, really. Again, nerdy show-off music, that's to be expected with Megadeth, but works for me, here. Way cooler and more interesting than the following year's self-titled borefest from Metallica. But... *sigh*, with six albums between these two bands, there should have been a spot for Testament. Anyways. So: not a 5, but glad I had this today.
This is surprisingly awesome. I always thought Megabeth was kind of Metallica’s slightly cringey little brother. Dave Mustaine got kicked out of Metallica and created a perfectly cromulent little side project. It bears saying that I’ve never actually listened to Megadeth - halfway because of the above, and halfway because I didn’t like their shirts/album covers. They just don’t look like things I would be interested in. Anyway, it’s fucking great. 4.5 stars
Not really my thing but seems like harmless fun. Seems like songs that are made for expert Rock Band difficulty Rating: 3.8
really solid album. fun thrashy metal. i'm learning to love metal but i did enjoy this one. my only gripe here is that i don't know that i really like dave mustaine's singing. sometimes he sounds like a cartoon character, and not in a cool fun way. but overall, i would say i enjoyed this one!
Classic, love to listen to Megadeth
solid album, thrash metal bois
Very nice suprise
Love it!
Close to a 5 but I'm going to go with 4 on this one. First two track and tornado of souls especially rip, but whole album is just fierce throughout. Some of the better metal I've heard, and some surprisingly profound lyrics especially in the opening track
Lots of energy, and sounds very clean, but hard to give it more than a 4* when it all sounds the same to me/like Iron Maiden but with less heart. I was gonna give it a 3*, but this deserves more than the other very meh 3* albums I've heard.
often considered megadeth’s magnum opus and with one listen it’s easy to see why. lightning quick guitar solos, a thunderous rhythm section, abrasive vocals. themes of politics, religion, nuclear proliferation, addiction. this is actually a pretty heavy album, not just musically but also thematically. highlights: “holy wars” “hangar 18” “tornado of souls”
Wow, this is tight! Great production and musicianship. I'm not really into metal/thrash, but this Megadeath album is impressive. The leads are so clean and melodic. I like the speed transitions in many tunes.
Solid thrash metal. Solos are wicked, the sound of it all is clear and crisp, and Dav Mustang's vocals are angelic
Solid album, only megadeth one that has to be on here, no complaints HYEAYEA
This kind of rips. So much better than Peace Sells.
Let's not kid around, these guys have some serious game. But in the main not for me.
I liked this. Fun, not too screamy, not too exhausting. I'd listen again.
Super fast and fun.
Solid Thrash Metal from Dave and Crew. I think So Far and Peace Sells are better albums with more iconic songs, but I can see where this one gets the praise it does. Great guitar work here by Marty Friedman.
This shit rocks
Rocked from start to finish
good metal thrash record
Not really my genre, but this was pretty alright. Four stars.
Who let them cook
I've never been a Megadeth fan. I've given them plenty of chances, listened to their best albums (this one at least 4 times prior to this),and played "Hanger 18" on Guitar Hero II more times than I can remember, but Dave Mustaine and Co. still haven't won me over. With this listen, I have to hand it to Megadeth as musicians, there are serious skills on display. It makes sense that most people I know who play guitar tend to have positive opinions of Megadeth. They have serious chops. I like to think that while all the other thrash bands may influenced by punk, Megadeth took lessons from Iron Maiden. While the album is undeniably a Thrash Metal album, Megadeth pushed their sound to expand on what could be defined as thrash. Simultaneously, they were doing things that, unbeknownst to them, would influence the next waves of bands for decades. Dave Mustaine's voice takes a little getting used to. All told, when the album ended, I was surprised. It felt short, or at least it didn't go on too long, which may be the genius of Rust In Peace; keeping it at tight 40 minutes. I walk away from this listen of Rust In Peace, not as a Megadeth fan, but as someone who will likely throw on a different Megadeth record soon, because they deserve another chance.
The music I'm listening to while rollerblading down Radical Highway.
Dope
Outstanding! I was always an Iron Maiden/Metallica guy and never gave these guys a chance. I am an idiot.
Haven’t really been in the mood for metal but this is nice
Great heavy metal album LETS GO DAVE CHASTAIN
