This is #day269 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... here's to my second AC/DC album on this list. If I gave this a 5, that would put AC/DC among my favorite artists, and I'm not sure that's the case. I'm fine with hearing this band on classic rock radio, but I rarely put it on by myself if ever. That said, this record is fun. Forty minutes of sheer hard rock classics. There's something darkly ironic about calling an album Highway to Hell and then losing your frontman right after, though... What came next, of course, is one of the greatest comeback albums in rock history, and I've always preferred it. This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day270.
I really liked how dumb in your face metal this is, it has a few luls but overall I headbanged my way through a Friday and it was glorious

It was ok. Couple of nostalgic songs for me but feels a bit repetitive
Another great AC/DC album packed full of raw energy and power that is waiting to be enjoyed.
I used to love AC/DC when I was a kid, but I feel like that's definitely faded in time. Still, there was something nostalgic about these riffs and Bon Scott's scratchy wails.

When I’m listening to this during work, every song sounds like Thunderstruck and I get college PTSD - in this instance it’s a 2/5 I’ll give this the benefit of the doubt: If I were cruising my honda civic with the windows down on a sunny day it would be much better. Hypothetically I would give it a 3 or maybe 4 depending on where I’m driving. That being said this album does nothing to move me in any way and I will not revisit! I like the lame ass ZZ Top album better as a replacement 2.5 rounding up to 3 for Highway to Hell
I really do see how this was bad ass and cool when it came out. This album was “life changing” for my dad, just doesn’t hit the same anymore. Great guitar, great attitude, great songs, just heavily out classed by like 62 other bands that came decades later. Love highway to hell and beatin round the bush. Beatin round the bush is like if Van Halen was a good band. Lots of “didn’t I already hear this one?” to the point where the autoplay at the end of the album ran 3 more songs of theirs before I realized the album was already over.
This album reaffirmed my thoughts on AC/DC. Not good. I guess I can understand how they would have been hype back in the day, but they are just super boring to me. I've never really been excited when any of their songs comes on. The ONLY time I was excited to hear AC/DC was when Thunderstruck would come on in college and it gave me an excuse to guzzle alcohol faster than I was already doing. That song isn't even on this album. I'm giving this a weak 3 just because of their influence and popularity.
Boy was this dumb. I don’t get why this was so popular. It’s loud but not in a good way, I would definitely dial to a different classic rock station if I heard this on the radio. That being said I bet it was fun to play for them so light 2/5
I think I'm just going to give hair and glam metal a standing 3/5 from now on. Yeah, yeah, AC/DC aren't hair metal, but AC/DC->NWOBHM->Def Leppard->sunset dtrip bullshit->Motley Crue, the lineage is there. Anyway 3/5 it rocks but in one specific way that doesn't get very interesting after the killer opener. Shazbot Nanu Nanu.
Decent album, expected more from it’s legendary status. By the end of the album the songs do begin to sound very samey unfortunately, and I would peg this down to the lack of melodic creativity. The energy is good, but I feel it lacks the fullness of what came to follow. Happy however to have finally listened to the full album front to back!

It's AC/DC alright. Never did like the lead singers voice, but the music bops. Thought Night Prowler was a good tune then Wikipedia said it was the "Night Stalkers" favorite tune and now I wonder what that says about me. All in all it's an ok album. Not my favorite from them though.

One friend said it's like 45m of the same song. I'd have to largely agree about all AC/DC albums. Some classics in here of course, but overall nothing thrilling to me.

This album rocks. But it would made a better soundtrack than it would an album to listen through straight. Go on a road trip, pick the track to match the setting, and you've turned your life into a rock and roll music video. A classic that sets the tone just right.
Pretty cool story of how these guys tightened up their sound for this album -- eventually leading to even better stuff in the 80s. Less cool story of how the lead singer died of alcohol poisoning just after this release. I had no idea.
Besides the iconic title track, the rest of the album was enjoyable but not necessarily spectacular.

Very good and iconic classic rock album. Strong individual tracks, and generally enjoyable to listen through, although like most hard rock has an obviously intense nature that doesn’t quite lend itself to all settings for listening.

ACDC has the groove and the feeling, an awesome album but man those solos are almost all the same
Stereotypical heavy metal music. Very smooth sound. Sounds exactly like you expect it to sound. I enjoyed listening to it (on headphones) but it was nothing special.

Holy hell. An absolute banger of a classic album.
Just can’t get on board with these guys. The lyrics are basic with a sophomoric subject matter. Vocals are just annoying. I do respect their impact on metal.

This is a moody album that just kinda drones on. It's good atmospheric music, but the vocals lack the early XTC that I enjoy and sound too Paul McCartney-esque.

Refrões antêmicos, solos de guitarra grandiosos, letras simples e chicletes... Elementos do chamado Hard Rock, mas que eu prefiro chamar de Rock Bunda. Sempre tive um preconceito grande com essa banda, mas nunca tinha ouvido esse disco inteiro, apenas a faixa titular (muitas e muitas vezes, contra minha vontade). O veredito? Meh. É OK, inofensivo, lendo na wikipedia descobri que na verdade o vocalista que eu detesto foi o que veio no disco posterior a esse, Back In Black, o tal do Brian Johnson. Os vocais daquele cara eu verdadeiramente detesto. Os vocais de Bon Scott eu só não gosto mesmo, não chega a ser ódio. Na metade do álbum eu ja tava pronto pra ele acabar logo. Toda canção é igual. Isso é ótimo se você gosta do som da banda, mas eu não gosto. A melhor parte desse álbum foi quando percebi que ele foi lançado em 1979 e me lembrou um outro álbum que lançou no mesmo ano. Unknown Pleasures, do Joy Division. E assim que a última faixa disso acabou (processo árduo, a ultima faixa, Night Prowler, é de longe a mais insuportável de todo o disco, ao final dos 6 agoniantes minutos eu já estava desenvolvendo uma enxaqueca), fui la ouvir aquele disco que é monstruosamente superior a esse. 1/5
Rock On!
yeah you already know i like the title track. my guilty pleasure is also screamer hard rock and i appreciate how this album is inching towards that. “touch too much” was pretty good as well. overall a solid album, would probably rate 4/5.
Not AC/DC fan at all. A lot of their songs are repetitive and IMO boring. But I can't lie their sound is distinguishable and you know what you're going to get when you listen to them. Their influence on so many other bands is huge.
Touch too much ist ein Banger. Platz 2 Beating around the bush. Platz 3 Night Prawler Die meisten Lieder fühlen sich uninteressant an. Highway to Hell ist ein starker Start aber geht mir persönlich zu lange. Besonders hier fällt der sich immer wiederholende Chorus auf bei dem immer die gesamte Band singt. Bonus: War blind melon bei 'toes across the floor' inspiriert vom Ende von love hungry man?

I liked the girl's got rhythm. I wasn't really paying attention to the latter half, but I don't think the album made a huge impression on me overall. I do, however, understand how it's a classic for so many rock fans.
I've not fully listened to AC/DC before this, only catching them on the radio. Great album! Definitely want to check out more of them now
One of the last great AC/DC albums. All killer, no filler.
It was ok. Highway to Hell is an an obvious classic. I found the album all a bit samey. The one note is a good one, but one note nonetheless. I could probably reach across the entire AC/DC discography and compile one truly kick ass record...maybe a double even. I guess those are called greatest hits records, aren't they.
Just not for me. I get the artistry, the solos are sick, production dialed in. Can't quite get past the vocals and the subject matter I guess. I'm all for agressive music, i listen to a ton of it. It's just that this specific album is seemingly all sex lust and violence towards women as objects, which is a turnoff for me personally and doesn't make any of these an anthem for me. had no idea about their history and the loss of the lead singer

music for 7th graders
Pretty good. I enjoy the lead vocalists tone a lot, it feels in harmony with the band (similar energy, range, etc.) Also in regards to my criticism of the stevie wonder project having a massively popular song tucked in the middle of it, this project starting with a song that I'm already familiar with help to set the tone for the project which stayed largely consistent throughout. Still not exactly my genre of music, but as far as rock goes for me there is a lot here for me to enjoy.

I like AC/DC. I don't love them. They wrote one song, changed the lyrics and the timing on that one song, and played it 10 times on every album. And no one got tired of it. AC/DC's music is so similar from track to track it's commendable to even have a career with that much same old same old. But they had/have a hell of a career. But hey, one hell of a single song. 4/5

Again, nice but highway is a bit overwhelming for my life at the moment. Music is a bit of a magical escape but rock is making the paradise look rather fiery. Alt rock seems ok tho

A quintessential “classic rock” album where you really get what you sign up for. The songs sound kind of repetitive but if you’re looking for the nostalgic “rock” of the era, it’s a good listen, beginning to end. Especially because there aren’t really rock bands with a sound like this anymore in mainstream music. Walk All Over You, Touch Too Much, If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It) were certainly my favs, and of course, Highway To Hell, which will always be a certified banger. For me this is more of what I would call an “activity album” for working out, running, walking, or commuting.
One of the best pound for pound, song for song, 70's hard rock albums. Easily stands the test of time and is a generational album. There's no college kid who doesn't know all the words to the title track whether they're into AC/DC or not. It's hard rock with a melody and easy to sing along to. The title track, along with "Girls Got Rhythm", "Touch Too Much", "Shot Down In Flames", "If You Want Blood", "Love Hungry Man', & "Night Prowler" are all fringe greatest hits from one of the best and most listened to bands of all time. The only weak song on the album is "Beating Around The Bush" but it's still a good track! No track has under 14M listens, the title track is near at 1B listens, "If You Want Blood" is over 100M. No denying the popularity, longevity and influence this album has had. This is one of their seminal albums and one of the Top 25 classic rock albums of all time. Deserves a spot on the T1001 for sure. 4.5 Stars for me

there is perhaps no brighter example of the fact that ppl's articulated opinions on art are not necessarily a 100% consistent barometer for their actual visceral perception of the universe then the fact that i rly enjoyed this lol. and rly just the fact that, in general, for a variety of contradictory reasons based on my own attempts at articulation, i have Never had an anti-ac/dc period. im not sure i can do any guesswork as to why that wont seem embarrassingly date/off the mark in the couple years like the last few times i tried to explain myself FSFHJSFHJ but this Is the first time ive actually sat down with a record of theirs in full (the fact that ive heard every fugking deep cut on back in black get radio play doesn't count!) so my Sustained Enjoyment across more than just some comfortably nostalgic singles does imply that there is some underlying enabling factor between me and them...certainly for this period it's bon scott, who carries none of the reservations i sometimes have about brian johnson and just in general kind of illustrates all the little idiosyncrasies of their monolithic personality as a band...grimey, precise, earthy, confident, affable, performatively nasty in the most obviously harmless way possible. definitely feels like hanging out with a Specific Kind Of Person who u know well enough to have that bubble of safety over every dumb tasteless thing they say. and despite my general lack of aptitude for mid tempo stompers, it rly does speak to the young brothers that every same-sounding riff and anthemic chorus and song structure they slap together still tickles my ears in a perfectly enjoyable way, they have their formula down to a science and its hard for it to feel lazy when they just genuinely seem to get something out of it every single time. one of my previous Bad Guesses at why i liked ac/dc was that they "dont take themselves too seriously", i think its more that there's a strangely vulnerable quality to the entire enterprise, so many easily mockable or dismissable things inherent to their whole thing, and they are just so confident in it that they never miss a beat or feel beholden to any kind of outside pressure. its kind of comforting! im sure ill enjoy back in black too when it pops up
Lowest common denominator music. Only listened to it once, where I've tried to give every record here two shots. There's no point, and no additional value I could gain from more time spent with Angus and the crew.
It’s AC/DC man, you need a road map? Highway to Hell might be my favorite of the Bon songs. The greatest loss the band took when he died was his sense of humor. Bon was fucking funny, something Brian can’t match.
Never was much of an AC/DC fan, but at least you know what you're getting. This didn't disappoint.

Very decent bluesy rock & roll. I wouldn't call this metal (despite the squeaky vocals). I don't think this aims at being the climax of musical creativity, but it's fun and good at what it is.
Classic opener. Everything else (at this stage) just blends into each other. Indifferent.

Oh I’ve been waiting for this one. It’s about time we got a classic, amazing rock album. Hit after hit.
Me at age 10 in the front seat of our new-ish station wagon accompanying my mom on some errands ... she goes into a store I wanted no part of and I was more than content to stay in the car and fiddle with the new radio. I remember exactly where the car was when I first heard these opening chords. I turned it up. And then up again at the chorus. By the time mom got back to the car I was into the 2nd chorus and feeling just a little weird about singing the words "I'm on a highway to hell...!" having been dragged to church every week and made to feel lousy about everything including some fantasy-land called hell (which turned out to be real, just that hell is actually the checkout line in a metropolitan Costco) but not nearly enough to stop. Anyways - mom was apoplectic not about the lyrics but the volume which she could apparently hear from inside the store. Buzzkill. TL;DR: Gloriously dumb ("the body of Venus with arms" LOLOLOLOL) fun and if you're not smiling after those initial A power chords then it's never gonna happen and I feel sorry for you that you hate fun. Shazbat! Nanu nanu.... R.I.P. Bon. 10/10 5 stars.
I never listened to AC/DC and I think I only knew two of their songs prior to listening to this record. I have to say I’m a bit disappointed. AC/DC is such a big name after all - so let’s check what is behind this name. But these songs all sound so similar to one another. The lyrics are so mono-thematic. Some of the lyrics are funny but ugh we get it. You like sex. Okay, cool story bro. 2/5 stars

"She had...the body of Venus with arms" - let's go Touch Too Much! A rock guitar and stadium rock clinic, era defining sound, guitar riffs that'll make you want to kneel and pray to the fretboard gods, fantastic vocal screeching with those fist pumping rhythms. Sexual innuendo throughout that inspired the eras other greats, definitely one to listen to loud.

Fun like all AC/DC songs but I think one of their albums would be enough for this list.
It has a couple of classic songs: "Highway to Hell" and "Girls Got Rhythm". The rest of the album is OK. Interesting that this was Bon Scott's last album, and our other AC/DC album this week (Back in Black) was the first album with Brian Johnson, and also that their voices are kind of similar. Having effectively.listen to two AC/DC albums in a row, I can say Scott is a better singer than Johnson. But that only makes this album slightly less grating.

AC/DC really had one idea for a song and then recycled that one idea endlessly their whole career. I mean it's fine, I just don't know if I need a whole albums worth y'know?

Love AC/DC and love Bon Scott. Grimy riffs. Good Tempo. Fun album all around Might have to go to the shop and get a sausage roll now!

The Good: We are going on a roadtrip! The Bad: Destination is hell... The Ugly: We packed for a ski trip... My wife has the title song as her ringtone, needless ti say I am familiar. However, I had forgotten about the other songs, and what a lovely trip this has been. I agree with many who state that Touch Too Much is the best track in the album, however, too many great songs IMHO Easy 5*

I remember being a kid in the early 2000s downloading all the music Limewire and Kazaa could provide me. AC/DC was one of my favorite bands, and I remember listening to a bunch of these songs. So this has given me a lot of nostalgia. All of these songs stick to the successful AC/DC formula, which is great, but I can't give it more than a 4 for that reason. Lots of great songs, but if you're looking for variety, well, you're probably not listening to full AC/DC albums.
it’s AC/DC you get what you expect, it’s fun for a couple of songs and those songs are great but it runs out of ideas pretty quickly.

This album is like road hypnosis. You got through the whole album but like, you don't remember anything on your way through to the end except the parts that sound familiar through radio osmosis I never really listened to ac/dc outside of what have heard from classic rock stations, but also yes I have because all of this sounds exactly the same as that.

AC/DC are one of those bands that a lot of people know their big hits but don't know their albums. Fans of the group would argue they're missing out, but are we really? This is not a bad album per se, but the band is not beating the "every song sounds the same" allegations. Key tracks: Highway to Hell
When I first heard these Aussies I thought it was some sort of parody band. A parody of what… I had no idea. But then I got it and realized they were an original rock band. Heavy Metal had been recharged and these guys did it.

To be sure, all the songs give the same vibe as highway to hell so it’s a good vibe, but I had a hard time picking any out cause of that. definitely an album I’d have to listen to again to find my favs
as soon as you hear the title track you know exactly what you’re letting yourself in for. A non-stop attack on the heavy brain cells not my cup of tea but definitely worth a listen.
AC/DC is fine
This is seriously impressive how they managed to make every song sound identical. Something with the mixing of rock in this era makes everything mushy to me. It's okay. Not sure how Highway to Hell was picked as the hit over any of the other songs here.

I listened to this a couple times so I could pick out my favorite songs, but they all kind of start to sound the same. Wailing guitar, screeching vocals. This music almost feels like a caricature of itself now, but this was the OG, the real shit. I actually enjoy it though. I’d put this album on in the Summer by the lake when I’m trying to make friends and score free beers from the Gen X bros next to me.

This is the AC/DC said father listens to (see S&M by Metallica Review) while drinking in the garage at 10am on a Saturday as the kids watch the Incredibles inside. I still love the title track, mainly because it annoys my Mum. Besides this, I don't understand how you can enjoy this kind of music once you give it more than 43% of your attention. There was better rock music available at the time, and better has come out since. I also think AkkaDakka didn't cram anything else in this album to be well known for. In other words, this is one of the AC/DC albums ever. Like I say, some people shop for music like they're buying a new car or house, others shop for it like they're buying a new kitchen spray & wipe.
It's nice to hear a hard rock song that references "Beating Around the Bush" instead of singing about a 14 year old girl for once. A requirement of receiving my Australian citizenship was either swearing allegiance over either a copy of this or performing the ceremonial wash of Gina Rhinehart with a rag on a stick. I opted for the former. So expect a biased review as result. Christ this is a horrendous album cover for such a great album. I've actually never listened to anything except for the lead track (mandatory Australian listening), so what a treat every other song on this record was. As far as alcoholic dad hard-rock goes, this is genuinely the best album I've heard from end to end. I didn't lost interest at any point, the guitarwork was spot on with some mental solos, and Bon Scott's voice was nothing short of phenomenal. It's just a shame he died behind the wheel of a stationary car, as we booze cruisers know it's always best to go out in a high speed alcohol fuelled crash. Oh well. I genuinely don't know what song on this is my favourite, they all had me hooked, and I honestly think they were all of top notch quality and tone - except Highway to Hell of course; that song has been played to death at pretty, where you hear it like 10 times a night at any Australian sport venue. This far exceeded my expectations, I genuinely thought this was going to be an album of filler right after Highway to Hell, but there's an enormous amount of substance and great music in here. Will definitely be revisiting in the future after the next 15 Britpop or pedo-rock bands that I will inevitably be faced with post this.
I may be a little biased in my liking for this album given I come from a country where this bands lyrics could be used in dictation tests, hell I wouldn't be shocked if giving this less than a 5 will have me flagged by ASIO. I have heard this emanating like an aura from most if not all construction sites. I have seen actual religious iconography used of Bon Scott beyond the Let There Be Rock music video. Aside from the title track there are a few other standouts, some of which may or may not bring back memories of my family members playing these songs on full blast with their copy of AC/DC Live: Rock Band for the Wii. I'm also of the camp that thinks Touch Too Much is better than the title song.

God can this list please include some fucking half decent hard rock so I don't have to keep giving them bad reviews and have it as one of the lowest reviewed genres on my profile. This album is like the opposite of of ahead of its time. It sounds like if someone in the 50s decided to make a hard rock album. It's so quintessentially cringe Gen X, the type of Gen X who votes Pauline Hanson, complains about woke and the Satantic imagery of the French Olympics despite this being their favourite album. I'm convinced this album sounded dated on the day it came out despite releasing in '79. A truly miserable experience. 2/10
The title track carries the first side, if not for musical merit then for the fact that every Australian has this song burned into their neural pathways. On a genuine musical assessment of this album, it is okay/good. Touch Too Much is really the only other song here I would go out of my way to listen to. On a cultural assessment, the impact that this band and album have had on Australian rock scene really can't be understated. Were it not for this album, Supercheap Autos around the country will fall silent. Jokes aside, it is a good album but you're really here for the title track. AC/DC was my favorite band when I was about 9. I listened to a few of their albums, but this wasn't one of them. It's alright

I’ve never cared for AC/DC, and honestly, I still don’t. They write infectious hits, sure, but quite frankly, they’ve always struck me as a very boring band. Highway to Hell is often hailed as one of their best, a rock ‘n’ roll staple that helped define the genre, but to me, it’s a pretty bland and uninspiring listen. Let’s start with the positives. The title track is undeniably a banger. Straightforward, punchy, and designed to get stuck in your head whether you like it or not. The production is clean, the riffs are tight, and Bon Scott’s vocals have that raw, rebellious edge that fits the music perfectly. Tracks like Shot Down in Flames and If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It) carry a fun, devil-may-care energy that makes them easy to throw on in the background. I can see why people love it. It’s built for stadiums, built for blasting at full volume, and built to be simple, effective rock music. But that’s just it. It’s too simple. Once you’ve heard one song, you’ve pretty much heard them all. The formula doesn’t change: big riff, basic drum beat, Scott’s raspy voice delivering lyrics about women, drinking, and rock ‘n’ roll. Rinse and repeat. There’s no real dynamism, no depth, nothing that really grabs me beyond the initial “Oh yeah, that riff’s kinda cool” reaction. By the time Love Hungry Man and Night Prowler roll around, I’m honestly just waiting for it to be over. I get the appeal. If you love straight-up, no-frills rock, this is a classic. But for me, Highway to Hell is just another AC/DC album: functional, predictable, and ultimately forgettable. 3/5.

If you want blood, you've fucking well got it. Far and away AC/DC's best album, this is a band at the top of their rock and roll game. Dripping with sweat, swaggering all over the place, charming and violent, this album has character by the can-full. I love everything about it - Malcolm's riffs, Angus' solos, the hard-hitting rhythm section and Bon Scott just being Bon fucking Scott. Bloody hell does this album give me energy! Favourite Tracks: the whole bloody album, as loud as possible. But especially Highway To Hell, Night Prowler and If You Want Blood

AC/DC is a band I have generally tried to avoid. I’ve never enjoyed anything I’ve heard by them enough to deliberately seek out more. But I actually really liked this album. Is the band one note? Extremely. But it’s a pretty fun note at that.
It's AC/DC. I've never been a big fan or anything, but I really can't say anything bad about them. They figured out a formula and made it work with the occasional surprise. Plus, Mutt's contribution punches things up nicely.

Not a huge AC/DC fan, but I can appreciate some of their songs. This one is a hard rocking album with some classics on it, but the other songs aren't too dissimilar. At the same time, it'd be hard to lump this one in with the other 3s that I've given out, so I'll put this as a low 4 for me.

The title track is a generational banger, and I like it as much as I did the first time I heard it. However, the other songs here are kind of more of the same but have less energy, less memorable lyrics, slightly worse riffs, and slightly worse solos. It's a really fun first listen, but the tracks just blend together—not a lot of replayability here. 7/10

A really good way for Bon Scott to go out. You can tell that this band had been doing this for a while, and that there are two brothers in the band. Everyone’s very in sync, not that this is super complex rock or anything like that. As per usual, AC/DC knows what their hits are worth, and open yet another album with a classic. “Highway to Hell” is so anthemic and indicative of the bands whole brand up to that point. “Touch Too Much” is another memorable rocker for its repeatable chorus. “If You Want Blood” is basically the same sort of song too. Which is a fair criticism levied against the band, for this album and in general. They don’t really stray from the formula at all. Which is a shame because some of their most memorable songs have those artistic liberties (with Bon Scott or Brian Johnson) like the “oy oy oy” chorus on TNT or the canons on For Those About To Rock. This record lulls into scuzzy rock monotony at points, but otherwise is a fantastic, wired-up crescendo to Bon Scott’s career and life. Soft 4/5

Forty-one minutes of pure joy (except maybe for the creepy last song). A perfect antidote to the shitty weather and shitty news. I'm so used to hearing only the hits on the radio, so it was nice to listen to the entire album.

Absolutely legendary band and this album is one of their best. Having seen AC/DC live several times, I still get goosebumps when the opening chords to H2H begin. Shot Down In Flames is another personal favourite of mine. Bon Scott’s lyrics were just superb!
The backbeat could use a few more change ups every now and again, but Angus rips and Bon was giving it his all.

There’s probably not much I can say about this album that hasn’t been said before but this album is brilliantly rich in it's simplicity. AC/DC are by no means making a masterful composition with HTH but it’s lucidity is its greatest aspect; laden with guitar solos, Bon Scott’s screeching voice and simple and effective guitar riffs make it an unpretentious and brilliant album. ‘Girls Got Rhythm’ is groovy, 'Night Prowler' makes sure to take its time, and 'Highway To Hell' is infectiously catchy. The AC/DC formula , riff, rest of band, 2 choruses then a solo, would have you assume that each track is 'samey' but you'll find the variation to make each track sound fresh. 9/10 Great listen. Top tracks -> Highway to Hell -> Girls Got Rhythm -> Night Prowler

Just completely washes over me. Don't care for this at all. I don't think it's bad or anything, just painfully uninteresting. The type of rock album that lacks any real character and coasts on solid instrumentation and songwriting. Made to be played at sports games and shitty dive bars and guitar hero games. The mixing on the vocals is horrendous.
As with a lot of people, I'm familiar with AC/DC hits but I don't think I'd ever listened to an album other thab maybe Back In Black. Another review said they thought Touch Too Much was theur favourite song. I'd not heard it before but found myself whistling along and even air drumming on a first listen. As a band they obviously have a distinct sound, but unlike others where that can feel repetitive, AC/DC feel like they've explored every edge of their style to produce so many high quality songs. Another album I'd describe as a lot of fun and easy to get into.
This is hard rock at its best. The production is sharp, letting each instrument stand out on its own while still creating a cohesive sound. It has a raw, stripped-down feel that captures pure rock energy and keeps the album sounding fresh and powerful.
I had a grin on my face with this album popping up. Because with AC/DC you always know what you will get. High quality hard rock with an unique sound and energetic guitars. And on this particular album on top the two all-time-classics "Highway To Hell" and "Touch Too Much". 3,5

First listen. My father was fan of these people. I have only really listen to Back in Black, although I have heard the title track (of course). Not bad, not amazing.

I mean, it's AC/DC, a classic! So yeah, it was good. But it's good because of the overall vibe they can get out of there songs. There wasn't any specific really interesting musical parts or anything. IDK if I'd listen the the whole album again but random songs off of once in awhile are always welcome.

Bon Scott's ACDC for me is the authentic sound of the group. Really enjoyed listening to this and there is a raw edge to Scott's voice that drives the album forward. With this being his last album means its 5 stars from me.

A really good one
I know a handful of the famous AC/DC songs. "Highway to Hell," "It's a Long Way to the Top," "Thunderstruck," "You Shook Me All Night Long," "Back in Black," "Hells Bells." You get the idea. So when this album came up, I thought I'd be in for a trip down a track list like that one. I wouldn't say that ended up being true. I actually felt like I have the same kind of gripes with this album that I have with a lot of metal albums - it's too high energy for too much of the time. More than that though, I feel like AC/DC was kind of a one trick pony in some ways. Searing vocals from either Bon Scott or Brian Johnson, sick guitar riffs and solos from Angus Young, and a pretty standard song structure. The lyrics are never anything to dig into, but if you're coming to AC/DC for the lyrics, you're in the wrong place. The songs, I'll admit, blend together after a while. They all kind of sound the same. And that's disappointing. I said they're a one trick pony, but that one trick is pretty good. How they made a career off of it isn't really surprising to me - the music is far from bad, and it's entertaining and fun to listen to. I can't imagine what a concert was like in their heyday. But as a musical experience, it's repetitive and simplistic. But I still had a great time and it deserves three stars for the musicianship alone. To quote the great Robert California "Everything is sex" I'm in between 4 and 5 stars on this one. ACDC did a masterful job of balancing the rock and roll formula. High octane vocals, repetitive and memorable lyrics, simple drum line, most songs peak with a guitar solo. Along with the Back in Black album this is easily their best work. Most of the songs really hit. Some are just so so. I think objectively this album is a 4 but I used to be obsessed with ACDC in my teenage years so nostalgia is going to give it a little lift.

I will admit a bit of bias, as I love AC/DC to death. I fully appreciate that 90% of their songs sound exactly the same to most people. That said, this album is pretty good, but not their best. The title track is a genuine classic, there's a couple of other bangers, the rest are just ok. It was the last album with their original lead singer, so it gets a bit of a bump for that.

AC/DC has never been a terribly complicated band. They make rock n' roll — in fact, all they do is make rock n' roll. It's not something they're unaware of, nor ashamed of. You might've seen a quote floating around: "I'm sick to death of people saying we've made 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we've made 12 albums that sound exactly the same." To some people — heck, to a lot of people, really — this is a huge issue. Like, why would a band do that, just make the same music over and over again? Why would anyone need to listen to more than one album from this group? Heck, more than a small handful of songs, if it's really true all the albums sound alike. Here's the thing, though: AC/DC are good at what they do. They're **really** good at what they do. Regardless of what song or album you're listening to, this hard and fast rock and blues stuff kicks so, so, **so** much ass. That's what's kept them around and as popular as they have been for so many years. It's that you know exactly what you're getting into when you put on an AC/DC album: badass rock music and a good time — no more, no less. It being so simple is the point. In fact, I'd smack down the line that they're repetitive and say that they're more **incredible consistent**. Like, sure, some albums do the sound and formula better than others, but you'd hardly go wrong picking one over the other. In that regard, I've always compared them to Motörhead, another band who makes badass rock n' roll and could be accused of making the same album 20 times. (And for real, like you don't get a kick out of this album's title track, or BACK IN BLACK's title track, or LET THERE BE ROCK's title track, or FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK WE SALUTE YOU's title track, or "Thunderstruck", or "It's A Long Way To The Top", or T.N.T.'s title track... A lot of their title tracks are very popular.) But anyway, that's enough a defense of AC/DC as a group and their sound. What about this album specifically? What makes it so notable it ends up on a list like this, and even 200 on the 2012 Rolling Stone 500? I mean, jeez, it's ranked one spot better than THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL. What's it got goin' for it? Well, of course there's the unfortunate historical context: that this was Bon Scott's last AC/DC album before he passed away tragically young. Seriously, he was only 33 at the time. Just tragic. And while, yes, in a literal sense he was replaceable; AC/DC would soldier on with Brian Johnson... Let's not kid ourselves: Bon Scott was one of a kind. AC/DC would never again sound exactly the same without him, even as much as I do love Brian Johnson and his goblin voice. I mean, I'm not gonna like I've always been a #1 Bon Scott believer; like most other people, I was introduced to Brian Johnson-led hits first. Plus, don't mistake me, I'd never wanna nudge too close to people who're really obnoxious about Paul Di'Anno being a better singer than Bruce Dickinson. That's an annoying realm to exist in. But all the same, y'know, it's an undeniable fact. Johnson's great, but Scott's voice is just way more "hard rock party good times," and, y'know, that's what AC/DC is, at its core. And to that end, the other reason why HIGHWAY TO HELL is here is that it's simply the best the band would ever sound with Bon Scott fronting it. No disrespect to the albums that came before this, particularly LET THERE BE ROCK, but it's like I said: some albums do their sound and formula better than others. And goodness me, does this one ever. Like, there's not even anything I can particularly say that you can't gather just listening to the music. You can hear Angus Young's wild solos. You can hear Malcolm Young keeping the riff's consistent. You can hear Cliff Williams's bass grooving along. You can hear Phil Rudd's locksteady drums keeping it all in place. This is the kind of music where you turn your stereo up to 11 and just rock the hell out. And if you're lookin' for deep cuts beyond the title track, well, I think "Love Hungry Man" is really good. Reminds me of KISS, actually (and I mean that in the best way; I do like KISS a lot). Angus says it's their worst record, and,'ey, I'm gonna say it's their best, but "worst?" Even "bad?" No way. Well, that was a lot more words about AC/DC than I think I was expecting to say — and at this point, I don't think I have any left that wouldn't just be repeating myself. That's gonna make it real fun when my group gets around to covering BACK IN BLACK, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and just close shop on this one. It's a 5, and it's not purely an uncritical one. It's AC/DC at the top of their game, and it's a game I'm more than happy to see them keep replaying. Like, this album was never meant to be Bon Scott's last — in fact, they were working on BACK IN BLACK material right before they passed. I hear it's a hot debate topic whether he should be credited for lyrics or not. But with a few exceptions, no one gets to choose their last work, and as one... Well, I can't think of a better record for him to leave us with. I say this for you, Bon: "Shazbot. Nanu nanu." BWAMP.

I’m at a 10. Going into this, I knew Highway to Hell (and who doesn’t, let’s be honest), but my knowledge of AC/DC, besides some of the obvious super hits (TNT, Back in Black, For Those About To Rock, You Shook Me All Night Long, Thunderstruck, Shoot to Thrill), is rather limited. I imagine that’s the case for most people, but I’ve always wanted to take a little bit of a deeper dive. I was definitely expecting that most songs were gonna be similar, but hopefully, they would kick ass. They kicked ass, alright, and they blew me away in the process – normally, I might complain about repetition or whatever, but I’m willing to ignore it when the quality of every track is just that damn strong. It’s much easier to type about it when you’re in the flow state of listening to the album, but like… I dunno, I’ve never really felt more in sync with a band while listening to a rock album. I’ve hit similar states a handful of times (i.e. Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin), but even then, this one felt different. Someone else may chalk that up to “well, it’s just Highway to Hell 10 times, of course you could predict it,” and maybe that’s true, to some degree. I just… it’s hard to put into words, but it felt sort of ethereal to me. This is my first time listening to a lot of these tracks, and there’s some insane standouts here that are criminally underplayed on Spotify, even if every track on the album has 13 million plays – “Touch Too Much” is fantastic, as is “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)”, but I think the most underrated one here is “Beating Around the Bush”. It has the second lowest plays on the album, but I thought it fucking ruled, especially with the Ram Jam-style back & forth call/response structure. I’m just a sucker for that sort of thing. I’d love to keep waxing poetic, but I’d just be circling the bases with praise – it’s an unbelievable album, and while the appeal may wear off over time, I think a lot of these tracks are gonna hit like a truck when they come on in shuffle, and I’ll appreciate them all over again. For now, I’m at a 10, and I’ve got no shame in that.

This was alright, decent tempo and some good sounds. Songs all pretty similar but if they’re good does that matter?
6 albums in and the lads are starting to perfect their no nonsense, ballsy rock. The songs are unapologetically tongue in cheek and fairly simple in structure, but they certainly do rock! There is little deviation but some more than hint at the blues influence going on. Probably a 4.5, but I am giving it 5! Tragic that this was Bon Scott’s last album. Whenever I think of Bon Scott, I can’t help but think of Spinal Tap: Derek Smalls: Its not very pleasant story…but uh, he died, uh he choked on uh, the official explanation was he choked on vomit… Nigel Tufnel: It was actually – it was actually someone else’s vomit…you know there’s no real… Derek Smalls: Well they can’t prove whose vomit it was…they don’t have the ability…there’s no way of… Nigel Tufnel: You can’t really dust for vomit… Too track: If you want blood….
I genuinely think this is the first time I’ve listened to one of their albums. Largely as I’ve never been very excited by them (Thunderstruck intro aside). Same applies to this album. On paper it’s a slam dunk, they have some great riffs, a decent vocalist and bags of positive energy. Yeah they’re ‘heavy’, however, somehow it just always seems a bit lightweight to me. Maybe it’s the staccato nature of the guitar, or the fact the drums and bass always seems a bit basic and secondary to lead and vocals. It’s also one of those one paced albums, and Nightcrawler is quite a blessed relief of a slower song at the end. It’s just all feels simplistic and not meaty, yeah that’s it, it just lacks any great nuance and is decidedly unmeaty. Mystery solved, but I’m sure it’s better experience live and pissed up.
I'm not sure what it says that I cannot pick up on the difference between Bon Scott and the next guy's voice. Now I've had back in black and this so I should be able to right? Or can everyone just kinda sing like taht in Oz if they want? Anyway, ignorant fun rock. Good riffs from big Malcolm the true wizard of this band. Interesting story of them hating Eddie Kramer and getting on with Mutt Lange two names you see all over classic rock. Also interesting connections between them and the easybeats, a truly legendary aussie band.
I like AC/DC but his voice is so unique and so is their style that to me their songs kinda blend into each other.
There was only one hit here but who cares, this album ROCKS! AC/DC has a hard-driving formula that works and I was headbanging in approval! I enjoyed this album from front to back. 4.5/5
Really fun album with a great sound but it all sounds very similar
AC/DC falls in the same category as other bands from the late 70s to the early 90s for me. I call them 3F bands, because all their songs are about one of three things: fightin', fuckin', or foolin'. That said, I tend to enjoy riff-based music over masturbatory shredding, so Malcom & Angus' style of songwriting resonates with me way more than say, Van Halen's. This is a classic album, but it does get a little samey (like all AC/DC offerings). Easily a solid 3 stars, probably a 4 just for the classic title track. Impossible not to at least slightly bob your head to this music as you are driving to your office job in an SUV drinking coffee from a thermos.
One trick pony but it’s a decent trick
Really straight forward rock. Very listenable, very likeable. A simple and obvious 4 stars.

Favorite Tracks: "Highway to Hell", "Girls Got Rhythm", "Touch Too Much", "Love Hungry Man" I wish these ratings weren't out of 5 stars because it doesn't feel right to give this a 2 or 3. It's somewhere in the middle for me. It starts to lose steam at Shot Down In Flames for me, but picks back up at Love Hungry Man.

I understand why these guys are so influential but scream-singing has never been my bag.

Man oh man is the title track a towering banger. AC/DC is good for that. Unfussy and raucous hard rock. Listening to 'Back in Black' a while ago primed me to enjoy this previous album more. I still don't capital-L Love it, but I did have fun. Maybe I just like Bon Scott's voice more? Rest easy.
Honestly, better than I expected
When I was 15, I would have given this album 4 stars, but I've listened to this album numerous times. It's not bad, I get the cultural significance of this album. Nevertheless, you get 2 stars babe. XOXO Maggs

So recognizable anthem and the rest of the album goes with copy-paste production method. Simple is good but I listening this album makes me question the value of this album. Nope.
I’m not in the mood to list clichés about AC/DC. In my opinion, the album is good, though quite monotonous. Then again, so is the whole band. Their musical formula is undeniably simple and repetitive, but at the same time, it’s their trademark – the riffs, the rhythm, and the voice of Bon Scott (for me, Bon Scott has always been the real one).
