When he started shouting "cracka cracka cracka" in cry to me it really hurt my feelings. Not my type of music >:(
nice enough but it didn't do anything for me.
Lamb chops
It’s kinda mid
Foundational soul. Catchy in small bits. Just not sustained for an entire album’s worth.
This album was a touch early in the evolution of rock / RnB for me. Very tough to relate in any meaningful way.
Throwback to an era that didn't have color TVs, electricity, or the modern wheel. I felt like I was in the high school gymnasium from Back To The Future just before Marty McFly plugs in his guitar. Though it's fun to listen for a chuckle, this sound belongs in a museum not in my library.
Sorry, Solomon, but I found this to be neither very rocking or very soulful. The endcap to a pretty unspectacular week of albums in which nothing reached above a very low 3. After EW&F's "Shining Star" started us off Monday, nothing after that song has really felt worthy of something I had to listen to before my time on this earthly plane expires.
Rock ’N Soul is exactly how I would’ve described the music on the album, too. It’s very evocative of a certain era, and very sweet on the ears. For enjoyment alone, it’s a solid 3. Buuut it’s an album of covers, and you know my feelings about those, in the context of this list. 2.5
This man gonna love his woman for sure
Meh. I don’t like this kinda music. Boring
This was fine but I think his contemporaries like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles etc put out more interesting material, hence the reason why he’s not as well known.
Meh not my type of music and some of the lyrics were not endearing.
Just average early rock n roll. Nothing special. Would never listen again. 1.5/5
average
It was fine, nice to listen to. Nothing exciting though for me.
not a soul fan 2/5
Pretty groovy, what i was expecting, a couple standouts but nothing id play regularly, not bad, not my thing
Not particularly my cup of tea. Nice to listen through but wouldn't re-listen again if I had to choose. Can't say any songs stood out.
Rock and soul. Those are the two solid elements here. If my stats are lower only it is only that I just didn’t feel it. Just admired
Some nice tunes that have no business being on this list
The album bulks on Romeo-esque poetry, but is all fairly run of the mill.
When the opening chords of Cry To Me pounded in, my heart pounded, \"Another Banger!\" Thinks I. But then, that was the one good song, what a disappointment!
This is a covers album that just meanders around for half an hour. He doesn't have a standout voice, and these are all other people's songs. This has no appeal or relevance in 2022. Surely even in the mid-60s it was outdated by a good 10 years. 2/5.
Another really old one. Sorry, all the music from this era and genre sounds the same to me. I'll just copy-paste the thing I always write for these: "Clearly influential and talented, but not for me"
It was all right. I'm not really into this kind of music, but it had some nice moments. Nothing to complain about, just not for me.
It's charming I don't dislike it but it doesn't compel me much either It’s not bad but compared to other albums I’m going to give a high 2 for now
Da ist literally kaum was passiert außer bei Cry To Me. naja 4/10
langweiliger klassischer soul, not my thing
Schwierig.
This did nothing much for me. The sort of thing where I can appreciate the artistry involved, but I find myself having nothing much to say about it one way or the other.
What a voice. I just wish I loved the songs more. I knew Cry to Me and love that song. I was excited when I heard it as the opening track, but nothing that followed grabbed my attention in the same way. I would have liked a little more variety.
Self-proclaimed king of a genre which was only ever a brief point of evolution on the split of rock and soul.
Ronseal. Soulful rock'n' roll. Enjoyable enough, not super interesting. 2.5/5.
Too repetitive (how many times can a singer use “love” in sentences, line after line) to compensate for the limitations of its recording technology. In other words, this album didn’t age well.
Bit too slow for my taste
Not my favorite. Forgettable. 2.3
Pretty standard mid-60s Atlantic output as far as I can see. There are a few well-known songs on it but, honestly, if I were looking for music like this I'd reach for a Motown Chartbusters compilation.
2.5 for cry to me
Didn't leave a lasting impression
Dat viel me tegen, beetje saai
A great voice, let down by pedestrian songs with repetitive arrangements.
eh
Great voice, too slow paced for my taste. Not very catchy tunes
No está entre mis preferidos del soul
I've really loved some of the soul on this list, but this didn't have the same musical interest or *soul* as the others I guess.. I've been giving everything a 3 lately so I'm gonna give this one a 2
Not for me
Good background music but i'm not super into it
I usually like older music but this just didn't hit as hard
Not fully up my alley, but objectively not bad
Stille soulrock, kærlighedssange, afslappende, ligefrem, simpelt
Great voice but not really my thing
I am not listening to this
ughh, an endless stream of cheesy love songs
stop recommmenidign this to me
Ok
Just not my style, sadly. Not sure why.
not impressed
Gjentakende, masete tekster ikke noe for meg i dag. Helt okei som bakgrunn kanskje
Ilman ymmärrystä levyn historiallisesta merkityksestä ja ajan kulttuurin kokemisesta, jää tämä hyvin mitättömän kuuloiseksi kokonaisuudeksi.
Great singer, but more of that music that has only historical value.
Dreary
1964 No thank you. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ until I'd had enough Revisit ❌️ ★☆☆☆☆ (2/10)
Sounds like christmas Little too slow Boring
Eh, of the time. Do not like the references to little girls every other song. Nor that the songs all relate to how good said little girl is or the sexual proweress of the singer lol. Good singer, music good albeit basic and repititive at a certain point. But didnt even finish it because knew was not going to be into the rest of the songs. So one stars.
First song slaps then idk meh
Terrible
Overall good but weird vibes and too sad for me
I've never heard of Solomon Burke before, but I tend to like soul music, so I'm hopeful that I'll enjoy this album! Well, unfortunately, I thought this album was pretty boring, and it really missed the mark with me. I thought Solomon Burke's singing was good and that he had a unique and interesting approach to soul music, but I found this album pretty flat and dull. The songwriting wasn't particularly sharp, which wasn't Solomon's fault since he didn't write any of the songs, but I felt like all of these songs followed the borning format of stereotypical late fifties and early sixties R&B and pop. Musically, there wasn't much going on either, and Solomon's vocals just weren't enough to interest me and keep me engaged.
Mix of blues and soul.
Not for me.
Not for me
Not quite.
Same song 12 times. Stop it.
Yeah, this must have been great in the early 60s but it just sounds like something my grandad would have put in the wireless
Nope - sorry 😔
Didn’t hold my attention I’m afraid
Not my cup of tea.
Idk just made me feel weird can’t do the way they talk about women

Old school vibes. Kinda cheesy. Dont love it.
actually kinda uncomfortable to listen to NNN
I recognized the first song and like it so I thought the rest would be pretty good. But it ended up feeling too sappy and a bit boring to me. It sounds like just another record from this time and isn't soulful enough. Too vintage, too much love, and too weak overall: 1.5
Never heard of Solomon Burke. Rock N Soul is fine for a one time listen but it does little to differentiate itself from the countless 1960s soul albums on this list. I guess I appreciate that he has a little more guitar accompaniment. Otherwise its just another soul album from this time period. 0.80 stars
Dated. Not unique for its time.

Well that was a quickie… I have a ten minute walk to work and I (skip) listened to the album on the way one morning. Yeah, just not my tunes. And gosh, every single one about one or another way of love, getting it, keeping it, loosing it, finding it, crying about it. You get the picture. It’s just too much, like a 12 song long sugarshocksweet candy bar. Now I need something hardy, like some good growly grind core metal.
Not into this kind of music at all. Suppose it is well enough made and sounds good, but it does nothing for me. 2/10
Not my taste

2 of 1002. Reminds me of Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, etc. Good vibes and reminds me of music that Hill likes. She had a pretty rough day yesterday. Dealing with chest pains and anxiety. I love her so much. I wish I could take some of the pain away. She's getting better though, and I am always so happy (giddy) to see her.
Sounds very much like old school rock n roll
dreadful
I didn’t know any of the songs and none of them really caught my attention.
I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS
Stink, STANK, STUNK. What was memorable about this? Just a product of its time?
Not amused.
Don’t see the point of this one Cover art 1/5
neeee
Noodly nothingyness, sorry seminal album.
Solomon Burke's soul music LP was released in 1964. It performed well on the charts and seems to be included on this album list because it's specifically soul music, which isn't very common. I didn't think this album had any spark to it - hard pass.
Not for me, all a bit samey.
Un peu chiant
Forgettable album. Bad singing from Solomon Burke to his backup singers. 1/10.
Good classic album
