Previously known. Pleasant if a bit boring.
very beautiful yet highly unremarkable. is it just me or is there something about this that just sounds like a christmas album?
1. Sympa intro, sans plus 2. ok 3. Hank Williams est la ? belle reprise :) 4. Bon son, comme les 2 premiers, rien de plus à dire, c’est pas mauvais du tout mais pas non plus extasiant. 5. Oui! Bought this when it came out, and remember the songs well, but sounds a bit dated now….
I'm sure it's great but it wasn't the time for it
She has a nice voice, but I can't help but find this bland. A lot of it just sounds and feels the same. The only thing that really caught my attention was when it shifted from tiled-floor-store jazz to a country-ish sound on the unsubtly-titled Lonestar. Unfortunately, I was lost again very quickly and never felt pulled back into it. It's something I'd be OK listening to while browsing a trinket shop or waiting in a cafe for a few minutes but forget once I walked outside. I also have to knock this for how few songs she wrote herself. If she's aiming for the indie-vibe/singer-songwriter niche, I would expect her to write her own songs. Only three tracks out of the 14 list her as a writer (and another two are covers). Having other songwriters create the material makes it seem corporate/produced, which I kinda felt it was a little anyway. I think that's a big part of my opinion on this album; it just doesn't feel very genuine to me. So, while it's pleasant enough, it's a little too empty and bland for me to really consider more than OK. The limited number of original works brings it down further. More subjectively, I don't really care for the style of music that dominates the album. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I don't see anything here to make it a must-hear. I doubt I'll be listening to this one again. Overall: 1.8/5
“I don’t know why I didn’t come”
Not my typa music
I don't really enjoy music with minimal instrumentation and focus on vocals. especially when the vocalist isn't anything special. Only "I've Got to See You Again" caught my interest.

This album is well done but seems very one note to me. It feels like something you would hear as background music in a coffee shop.
A little bit sweet, a little bit insufferable... I think this sound could work well as Christmas music where you hear it once a year, but as an album you're supposed to just put on and listen to... this album is sea glass, it's polished away all but the cleanest safest melodies. I think this is the perfect album if someone were having a panic attack but if I were feeling any better than complete terror, I would listen to the comparatively experimental and abrasive, Jack Johnson.
Soulless.
She's got a great voice.. But it was very hard to pay attention to the music without falling into a coma.
Someone singing to a piano. Not my cup-a-tea, though it sounded nice in the background while cooking. I did not listen to the words.
Very soft and mellow singer-songwriter album, with mostly just vocals and piano. It sounds like quiet jazzy background music at a coffee shop or restaurant. A bit too sedate for me though.
Very soft-girl type of album with jazzy undertones. Though, unfortunately, don't have any favorites - none of the songs really stood out to me as exceptional. All of them are around the same meter, relatively similar quality to one another.
Beautiful voice but this music puts me to sleep
Bah c'est un album quoi....
Nope
Sound of muzak to me. OK at the background, but there's not much to grab my deeper attention
This just doesnt speak to me
This is a pleasant enough album, but it takes a swing into country-adjacent that I didn't care for. In a week if you played a song off of this album for me, I wouldn't be able to tell you if I had heard it before. Favorite track: "I've Got to See You Again"
Its fine
There’s so much talent on this album. The songwriting, the instrumentation, and the smooth velvet vibe of the whole album was very intoxicating. Norah Jones’ vocals come across as effortlessly immaculate. She sorta gives me dean martin vibes, not that they sound alike they obviously don’t. More that they both have this quality to their singing where they make it seem so easy. But here’s my personal issue with the album. It didn’t really hook me. Like the album is a total work of art, but there’s nothing that grabbed me and made me save it. Normally I’m pretty easy to win over but this album was just too slow and somber for me. I need there to be more energy at some point in the album to try and engage me more. But I will say this is album that might not have been super memorable for me, it did make me want to hear more from her and to hear her do other things.
Jazzy but calm, so far enjoying it. Side note: love the guitar in Seven Years. Cold Cold Heart has lovely instrumentals as well, the piano is comforting in a way.
Heard this one a million times, not super interested
Not my thing. The acoustic part for Don't know Why was written by my friend's guitar teacher. It's a Starbucks classic.
She has a lovely voice , the instrumentals, production and arrangements are all good but it's a real drag. Fairly dull
Oh no. Bland commercial jazz incoming! I did listen to the whole album. Norah has a lovely voice, but not for me. Rounding up to a 2/5 because I enjoyed I’ve Got To See You Again. Handing out 1 star ratings to irredeemable listens.
It's just so dull. The 2 decent tracks are drowned out by rest
jamen okay da
Fint nok. Sågar ganske lækkert. Ikke særlig interessant.
Superduper heavy frontloaded album (1 banger). The rest is nice.. Feels like something you would hear in a chill bar.
Langweilig und unspektakulär
Very boring.
Ngl I pulled a face when I got Snorah Jones - this is the kind of album you hear as background music in a cafe or restaurant, or that you buy your nan for Christmas. There's no question NJ is good at what she does, she has a silky voice and it's all pretty relaxing, the kind of thing you'd put on for bathtime listening or to help you sleep. But while I do have go-to tunes for relaxing, this sort of thing isn't it for me
Music that would play in a coffee shop. Not bad, but more soft relaxing background noise. My listening experience wasn’t the best cause I kept pausing and starting, but this was never going to be THE album for me. So, I give it 2.5 stars. Nice calming music, but all blended together and nothing stood out to me.
This whole album sounds the same and should be the soundtrack to 12 Nancy Meyers movies.
about as easy listening as it gets, just not very exciting
Not my thing at all.
This album is the equivalent of a Lifetime channel movie. It may create a nice atmosphere when on in the background, but when you look closely you will realize it is pretty bad. Overall, the instrumentals are utterly basic, the lyrics are superficial, and the singing is as run-of-the-mill as it gets.
not my vibe
Post 9/11 america was all jumped up on nu metal and revenge, and needed calming down - a pretty dark haired lady with a nice soothing voice was the warm bath the nation needed. The 2002 suburban anesthetic starter pack: nasty cinnamon candles, cheap australian wine, Old Navy fleece, Amelie on DVD, and drowning out the beating drums of the impending forever war with this album of smoothed over corporate Nina Simone impersonations. I didn't really work though did it?
Coffe-House-Music!Ich mag den Grundsound gern, aber das Album ist mir zu homogen.
So much nothing
Really did feel very middling about this.
Eh it was fine I guess
Common phrases heard as this music plays include: "....yes please, another glass of wine will be great, thank you " "Dessert menu? Of course, and may I have a double expresso..." *glancing at the bill* "Whoa...did I break a window?" (Laughter). Norah Jones has a beautiful voice, but this is little more than background music for your favorite restaurant. The bits you catch between conversation are great, but nothing you'd go out of your way to actually sit down and listen to.
Found this quite bland and boring.
Not really for me
Like listening to a 45 minute and 8 second yawn. Best Tracks: Don't Know Why; Come Away With Me; Turn Me On
Not my thing
Norah Jones has a nice voice, but this album just feels like coffee shop music. 2/5
Not for me.
Bought this when it came out. I remember it being quite a big deal. On first listen it reminded me of all the songs I remembered, but actually the second side feels quite a lot more of my taste now. I thought this was going to be a dud but I found something i liked in the second half.
Ok for easy listen, background music, but nothing I would likely choose to listen too. 2/5
Schön einschläfernd... *chrrrr
Much to quiet for me. She has a very beutiful voice, but i have the feeling that it has been seen in many other young female artists.
Honk shoo mimimimi (2/5)
This album was huge when it came out. Twenty plus years later it's fine. But to be honest it bored the hell out of me on re-listen.
She has a great voice, but I found the album pretty boring. Her songwriting isn't doing anything profound, even though the music itself is agreeable enough. Feels like an artist for covers, let other people do the hard stuff Norah, you just sing it.
Beautiful voice and the first song is great but I couldn’t get past track 4. The first time music has made me feel nothing at all.
Expected to like this more than I did
Very chill but too slow for my tastes
totally fine fluff
This album feels like the sound of Starbucks before the concept ever existed, the premonition of a genre yet to be named. Norah Jones’ voice drifts with a soft, nasal haze, as though she’s forever on the verge of clearing her throat and revealing something truer beneath the polish. The production, though, is immaculate. It has the kind of quiet perfection jazz so often hides behind, especially since Blue Note released it. But this album never stumbles, never strains. It would make perfect company for a dinner party: polite, unintrusive, and safe. And that, perhaps, is the most damning thing I can say. 'Come Away With Me' never dares to be more than pleasant.
Funny because I somehow had no idea who this was. A fine jazz pop album with some notable covers in it.
Underwhelming production
Boring
I can appreciate a voice like Norah Jones, but good grief, she puts me to sleep. I didn't remember until I got this album for today's listen, but there was a seemingly relentless campaign on TV and Radio of the "Sounds of Norah Jones, Buy the album now", wow how wild and random. The jazz-pop/adult contemporary is definitely not my jam. Best: Don't Know Why Worst: I've Got To See You Again
She has a beautiful voice and I like the title song, but I am shocked this on the list.
Bland
Dull
I remember this being a huge smash, I remember her name and the album name, but I either must have made it through those years without hearing a single song, or if I did hear one it went in one ear and out the other. Today I had to listen to the whole thing, and it absolutely did go in one ear and out the other. It's just... Nothing. Nothing music. Music for people who don't like music. Unacceptably meh. It would be utterly bewildering that this sold so many copies of I didn't already know that there are a lot of very silly people out there. But what do I know. People can like what they like. But for me this was a genuinely torrid experience. It should be nowhere near a list such as this, but the fact that it was so excruciatingly successful means I must give it two stars instead of the one it deserves, and concede that its popularity earns its spot here.
This is what they play at the starbucks in purgatory
Not bad, mostly same
Gear: ZiiGaat x Hangout.Audio: Odyssey 2 Artwork: 👩🙂↔️📸 Production (2022 Remaster): 🎧😘🤌 Music: 🎙️🧘😴 Rating: ☕☕(☕)/5
ehh. it's whatever. I don't hate it at all. I like Norah, actually. But it doesn't really belong on this list, does it? It's music for Starbucks, when Starbucks was still a thing that wasn't on every corner.
3/10
One note, couple of decent tracks
Certainly not bad - it's well-produced, well-sung, and well-played - but there's really nothing of substance I liked here. Feels a little like lounge kitsch. Music for airports but not the cool ambient kind. fav tracks: I've Got to See You Again
meh
A few others have commented about the Starbucks connection with this album, so I'll leave that low hanging fruit alone. My other non-musical gripe with the record is that it won the Grammy for Album of the Year over The Rising, which is just ridiculous in my mind. I think the Grammy's are silly anyway, but c'mon. As for the album itself, it's...fine. There's nothing offensive about it. It's tastefully sung and performed. It's not challenging in any way at all. I don't hate that it exists, but it surely doesn't feel necessary, especially being on this list. One of my gripes with the list is that artists like Def Leppard are on it, but even that I can understand in terms of a genre they represent. This album doesn't really feel like it represents anything much, other than something that wasn't typically selling in 2002. And again, now we're back to the Starbucks thing. My main problem now is rating it. Two seems too low and three seems too high. I guess I'll decide in the morning.
Pleasant. That’s all.
She has a nice voice, but overall too slow for my taste.
veoma spore pesme nije za mene
Not actively unpleasant but instantly forgettable. Like a dream that slips away before you can really remember what happened. I’m sure it’s a 5 for someone.
This is the kind of music you put on when you want your plants to feel something, but not too much. Justification the ablum is a blob of Norah slow whaling in a beautiful monotone.
What can I say about this? She's a good singer with a nice voice. That's about all there is to it. Not my kind of mush and doesn't stand out beyond the gazillion other offerings doing the same thing.
Not for me. Lovely songs and arrangements but just not my style
🥱
Grand. Not my cup of tea
Everyone who has been to a cafe has heard this. No one NEEDS to.
elegent dinner music 2/5
Très basique, musique que mes parents écoutent souvent. M’indiffère
Belle voix, instrumental cookie-cutter qui pourrait être généré par l'IA.. zZzZz
I played this and my daughter's boyfriend said that they play it in the restaurant he works in. Which makes sense. Forgot it was on for the most part. There are very few stand out tracks, very little experimentation. But it does what it intended to do well. I could say I like it, and listen a few times (like I did with KD lang's Ingenue) but in a few years, I'd never play it.
Not bad but all the songs blended together in my brain but not in a good way
This album sounds exactly Iike what you’d expect if you know the singles. Do with that information as you see fit.
I mean she has a beautiful voice but goddamn am I bored
Thanx. I'm good.
Never heard this, but I remember it being a huge hit with boring parents back when I was a teenager. I imagine it's similar to Jamie Cullum... and yes, it's a similar schtick. Her voice is lovely, and some of the songs are pretty good. But there's something unfathomably dull about the whole thing. A pastiche of old jazz-pop-blues-country singers, mixed into a grey soup that tastes of nothing. Some session musicians going through the motions. Please, I just want to feel something here. Anything! 2*
I am trying hard not to write the words "wallpaper" or "soccer mom dinner party background music" so instead I will just say that Jones' voice is pleasant and her singing is solid but the material here is not particularly risk-taking or adventurous.
[1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die #259]: I'll just start saying that I find this album to be very mediocre and a bit boring. When all the album feels like you are hearing the exact same song over and over again, and that song happens to just be a bit decent, the experience is not going to be pleasent. I'll have to agree on the fact that this record has a certain feeling of comfort thanks to how nice she sings an how well produced it is. Nevertheless, I don't believe this sensation is enough for me to come back to it, as it is the only rewarding feeling that I get from this album. I might be giving the impression that I didn't like this album, but it actually stands in a fine line between me enjoying and not enjoying it. I'll leave the review saying that I find this to be just background music.
Love Jazz and Blues and grew up thinking she was cute but just 2 stars cause the album is pretty boring and melancholy.
not the album for me but was nicely made Will I listen to again: 1%
She really just seems like a diet Fiona Apple with softer songwriting. Every song sounded nearly identical and it really started to become easy to tune out towards the middle. A bit of a relaxing listen, but still not good.
I have heard it before as I have been in a coffee shop in the last 20 odd years. She’s talented and has a great voice but it’s just boring. Starting to understand the criteria for this list less and less.
Exactly the shit you'll hear in a café at 9pm
No sir don't like it
Música para dormir de conchinha depois de brochar.
mano esse album era vendido no STARBUCKS qdo saiu que doideira eh. eh um disco definitivamente. bom pra quem gosta.
Mind-numbingly boring. Background music at a Starbucks that would promptly be ignored.
Come Away With Me.
No fui fan.
her voice is nice and the ambiance is also there and all but it's just so... monotonous... if I had gotten this on a day where i felt moody maybe it would've gotten a higher rating. 2.5/5
Can anyone explain to me why this earned seven Grammies? This is dreadful easy listening music. Musical wallpaper. And to be honest: I don't really appreciate Jones' singing.
Norah Jones is clearly very talented and good at what she does, but what she does has no effect on me. Well, that's not true. I find it tedious. To my brain, this album sounds like different versions of the same song repeated over and over. It's not a bad song—I liked "Nightengale" most—but it's not my thing.
Pleasant, forgettable. Not too bad, just a bit bland…
slow diner party music. or take out the vocals and you have shopping muzak.
Snooze fest
I tried it for a couple of songs, it is nice music. Just not for me.
Don’t Know Why this one came up. It didn’t Turn Me On.
Christ that was boring
This was massive when it was released and you couldn’t escape it. I thought it was boring at the time and more so now
Beautiful voice but the album does not really do anything for me.
2/5 - I didn't need to hear this album before I die. It's well executed, relaxing, and beautiful, but also really dull if you've never listened all the way through before. Not for me.
4/10
Good voice, well played, dull.
The nearness of you is great. Why wasn't this all standards? The singing is beautiful and the instrumentation and arrangement is nice enough.. But it's all quite bland. It's pleasant and it must have sold a huge amount, but it doesn't feel like an interesting record to me.
Nope
Boring
Wow... this was so fucking boring. I almost fell asleep standing up in the grocery store trying to focus on this thing. There's a weird phenomenon where music that could be considered pop or rock or jazz or whatever slides into adult contemporary. Whatever that intangible thing that makes a piece of music adult contemporary, this has it in droves. And i really hate adult contemporary. It's a genre full of people either past their prime but compelled to make music to pay their bills even though they have nothing left to say... or people profoundly boring to begin with who inexplicably have decided to channel their blandness into art. This album is in the latter if i'm not mistaken, which is the more offensive of the 2 categories. I can understand and respect a legacy act who has hit middle age but still needs to put out albums (even boring ones) to pay the bills. But having that as your starting point? Yikes. Squeaky clean production? Check. A lack of any musical or lyrical edge? Check. A general nothingness that would allow this to play in a Starbucks without anyone looking up from their smartphone? Check. I had the time this weekend to listen more than once but I couldn't put myself through a second listen. I am self loathing... but not that self loathing. It's a 2. It's not interesting enough to be a 1.
Nice Voice. Enjoyable to start with but struggled towards the end and I found myself wishing it over. Can’t see what would put this above other similar genre albums
It was a time of known knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns. Friendster promised a future of greater social connectivity, and Nelly's Hot in Herre alerted the masses to the worrying trends of global climate change. America elected it's first idol, Beniffer was born, and Hollywood went full Marvel. Enron and WorldCom presaged an era of corporate trust and accountability, Google promised to do no harm, and Mark Z packed his bags for his Freshman year in Cambridge, Mass. All the while, Norah's simplistic melodies reverberated throughout newly minted Starbucks from sea to shining sea, each note imploring us to take our sweet time kicking down that digital door. But the long day was indeed over; the sun would soon slip below the horizon and darkness set in. A silky smooth salute to times bygone; an ethereal elegy for the analog era.
Listened to B4? No Tracks Already Saved on Spotify: 0 Standout Tracks: Don't Know Why Come Away With Me, I've Got to See You Again (51/100)
I have fond memories of the first song "Don't Know Why", cause my dad would play it in the car, but everything else is okay at best. 2.5
Norah Jones undeniably has a beautiful, soothing voice, but Come Away With Me left me underwhelmed. Despite its critical acclaim, I found much of the album to be monotonous and lacking energy, which made it a surprisingly difficult listen. Favourite Tracks: “Don’t Know Why” and “Come Away With Me” were pleasant and stood out slightly from the rest. Least Favourite: Many of the other tracks blurred together and felt overly mellow, making the album feel repetitive. Album Artwork: The cover is iconic and suits the understated style of the music.
I was fine with this, until I realized that every single song on here feels like a forgettable closer that, in the context of some other album, would've probably hit harder after some bangers. As is, there is no weight behind any of these songs, and by the end, yeah, I was just sick of this. Not something that I'd listen to again any time soon.
nowt spesh
Kinda relaxing but not something I cared for particularly.
Middle aged white people dinner party. Can appreciate it's decent music but waaaay too middle of the road.
This album started strong! Great song, brings me back to my teenage years. Always treated it as a one-hit-wonder. Let's see the rest of the album... (but this one already gives it a 2 star). It is a calm album. Reminds me of something like jack johnson. Well, not so many interesting songs, but it's calm. I guess I'll give it a two
snark 2*
Great, the music that goes with people ordering half caf triple pump caramel whatever. Thanks, but no thanks. 2
Don't Know Why Come Away with Me
Can appreciate what people like about this vocal style, but it is entirely not for me.
Very well-performed, intimate, and comforting album, although not particularly very memorable in terms of the instrumentation and not very varied. Didn’t fall in love.
Not bad. Just boring. Most melodies sounded the same. I didn’t realize the album started over A peaceful album. Fell asleep on the drive home and then woke up in my garage. Who knows how long I’ve been there for.
background music
This was nice but nothing grabbed me at all. Enjoyed the listen but have no interest ever returning
#1 Early 2000s Starbucks Anthem right here. This started interesting enough but I found myself less amused as I kept going. A few things that ran in my head throughout this record: the acoustic guitars ring similar to the wonderful Elliott Smith's recordings. I do appreciate the diverse lineup of instruments that take a solo on this (even an accordion I think). I've already gotten another talented female pianist during my journey and I can realize why I prefer her over this. Fiona Apple uses her soul to tackle the listener with strong arrangements and heavy hitting delivery. Norah Jones lightly brushes her soul in a "lounge" atmosphere. I wouldn't hear this entire thing casually on a two mile walk again, but it would be great to sleep to. I still wonder why a lot of people went apeshit when this dropped. All hail the 2002-2003 Grammys queen. 5/10 (2/5 on this scale)
20/1001, and catched up missed albums (although this is bound to happen hundrerds of times). I haven't really paid too much attention to Norah Jones, I think my sister liked her quite a bit, but that's about it. The initial reaction was: I love this. Then: is this a Christmas album? Then: are all the songs the same? Then: how to rate it? Then: when does it end? So from 5 to…2 I think. I don't know why I would listen to it again, the mood stays the same throughout the record, there are no standouts, it feels to made for the foreground, headphones didn't really reveal anything new. A few sassy but jazzy tunes here and there please, lift the tempo up, change instrumentation… Come away where? Sorry, but no thanks.
No offense to Norah, who seems nice and has a good voice, but I had to bail on this before it started to annoy me. Insert brunch wisecrack. Sometimes a record punches thru extreme accessibility into mass delusion. Sorry, that wasn't nice. WikiTIL: Ravi Shankar's daughter, yet was legit non-nepo discovered.
Milquetoast
She has a very beautiful voice but this album is just too slow for me
Sleepy and inoffensive, as if crafted to disappear into the background. It's strange to hear a singer back off the intensity where it would naturally rise, for fear of being too noticeable. Why do I need to hear an album that is trying not to be heard? I do not. One star for the music, two for the high-fidelity recording.
On the one hand, this has a very broad appeal. No one is going to claw at their ears and say they can't comprehend the music. On the other hand, it's so bland, it might as well be plain oatmeal. Norah Jones sounds like she's falling asleep at her piano (a la Natalie Merchant)--she's even boring herself. If you want to hear a sexier, better version of "I've Got To See You Again," check out Jesse Harris and the Ferdinandos' version (he wrote it and played acoustic guitar on the Norah Jones version here).
Not enough 808s and slide notes im ngl However would be very good at quiet restaurant w candles or sum sh 4 the atmosphere like sm live music 6/10
not bad or anything just all the songs sounded the same. lowk a snoozefest, slowly decline in interest as the album goes on dont even have a favourite song because theyre genuinely all the same
A calming pop and jazz fusion. Quite easy listening. Beautiful voice and instrumentals however after the first half the album runs out of tricks. I can’t call this album boring though as I surprisingly enjoyed the soothingness each song. Highlights: Come Away With Me, Painter Song, The Nearness of You
So very very one dimensional and a bit boring.
125/1089 - Sade but more boring than relaxing.
Being well outside the target audience, it might be unfair to judge this solely based on my perception of musical utility. It would be more appropriate to evaluate it based on other possible utilities: - Inspirational tempo music during endurance runs: 0/5 - Incentivizing the purchasing of lattes and frappuccinos by the liter: 5/5 - Exploring the boundaries of creativity and innovation: 0/5 - Getting my mother-in-law to the "good place" - eyes-closed/candles-lit/glass-of-brandy-in-hand: 5/5 - Background music for an '80s movie "getting ready for a fight" montage: 0/5 - Streamlining my musical algorithms towards interesting new music: 0/5 - A safe & inoffensive alternative to silence 4/5 Math comes to about 2/5.
Not really my taste of music but was alright
I like her voice, but overall the music feels too murmuring for me. A bit too mellow. The husky, smooth sounds start to grate after a while. It's nice, I guess. But nothing I'd want to listen to again by choice.
I may not be able to objectively review this album because I may have fallen asleep during most of it.
If you're looking for excitement look elsewhere. It is very quiet. Whispered lyrics. Brushes rather than sticks on the drums. Unfussy arrangements. Languid. Good songs, but the delivery becomes tedious by the end. Ultimately that meant she just had the one hit album. 5/10.
When compiling an album I think it’s important to make sure there are mixture of tempos and rhythms so that one song doesn’t easily blend into another. There is clearly a lot of writing talent on display, but once you get beyond the genuine pop hits the mid-tempo easy listening tracks do become fairly indistinguishable from each other.
This is like jazz where in a movie the main character's friend says they're in a jazz group and the main character goes to see the friend play at the jazz club and like happily nods along to the jazz and afterwards tells the friend the jazz was great and we're meant to think it's good jazz when in reality it's just "jazz" and not really jazz. Honestly there are some good moments on here when they try and fuse country/Americana with the jazz but even then it's like going through the motions and not an that interesting.
Not really good, too slow 2/5
Pretty sleepy supermarket music
It was relaxing?
People who don't care about music also need a soundtrack for their dinner parties, and that's okay
Not really my cup of tea, but if i were in the right mood I think I would enjoy some of this.
Smooth, pretty and like pancakes: all exciting at first, and then you’re fuckin sick of it! (Hedberg) She has a very limited range. I’ll say the non-hit songs are more interesting, but still: just give me some Aretha or Etta. Hell, give me Sade.
Norah Jones has a nice voice. This album is well-produced. Also, my call is important and I am number 37 in the queue.
Not for me.
Aggressively nice
Really bored me unfortunately.
The beginning of Starbucks Pop . Good voice, partly great songs, but all washed away in what feels like "sell me for tea".
Why does this album feel so long? I didn't notice what time I started this album, so when every song ended, I was like "ok, it's finally over" She has a great voice and I get the vibe.....just a bit of a snoozer to me. 2.5 stars - rounding down because I listened on a warm, sunny Friday. If it was a rainy Wednesday, I'd probably round up.
Norah Jones has a fantastic voice, I would just prefer she used it more like Billie Holliday as opposed to her diluted, dishwater almost jazz, almost well lots of things. This album is not for me.
It's much of a muchness with whatever soft, smooth, frictionless music people who don't care about music listen to. The instrumentation is quite good, but the vocals and lyrics really piss me off with how bland, mannered and impersonal they are.
Between sleep-inducing and depression-inducing, but without much soul
Nora jones has a gorgeous voice but every song on this album sounds the same.
хуй знает, девочка красивая и негатива к ней нет, но что-то как-то не встал пипидончик
To where?
Very boring, Starbucks album
I have no idea what makes this an essential album. It was wildly successfull at release, but I'd put money on the success was build on the album being great as background music. Everything is competently performed and put together, but nothing interesting hoppens.
Norah has a good voice, but when I hear this music it makes me feel like falling asleep. All the songs to me kind of had the same sleepy feel. In fact one of these songs is on my kid's playlist to help them fall asleep.
Was quite easy to listen to and was a good length but nothing really grabbed me so I won't be going back for another listen
Not bad, but it's not really my thing. I get a bit of a low-rent Amy Winehouse vibe from her voice. It is aggressively boring.
This album is too long by 15 mins/4 songs for what it is. I cannot really come up with a fav song as they are all the same sounding. This album isn't for me and wasn't made for me which I accept. However it's endurance 23y after leaves me paranoid there is some conspiracy afoot against me specifically. What is being said to ppl I can't hear? If this album is someone's fav then they have given up or never tried. And tsk-tsking critics who feel the same way but hate being on the "wrong side" of history, vis-à-vis the popularity of this album, can pound sand.
Didn't feel much listening to this. It isn't bad or offensive in anyway. Just doesn't do anything for me.
The first song on the album is called "Don't Know Why"...well, I Don't Know Why this is in the 1001. Sounds like a mix between stuff my parents used to listen to in the 50s and a bit of country here and there, but came out in 2002. I know this album was really popular, but it's so unoriginal it's almost shocking. That said, it's not like it sounds bad, it's just so run of the mill I don't quite know how it was so huge. Go figure. Couple of songs that caught my attention: Cold Cold Heart, Come Away With Me, The Long Day is Over.
quite uninteresting
Good album, beautiful voice, great lyrics and simply a goid all around. Not my type of music and though songs were too similar and the album a bit too long.
She’s got a great voice but this isn’t for me - or perhaps today I just wasn’t in the mood for it?
This is fine and she is incredibly talented, but I have a hard time getting through an album of this type of music.
Not my cup of tea.
Don't know why is such a lovely song, but everything else on this album is very forgettable
alright
Boring, bland.
Like does anyone really, like reaaaallly need to hear this before they die?
Another album with music for cafe. That's it.
I found that her voice was basically the same in every song. I think if I heard a few of her songs at a time, I'd be okay with it, but the slow pace mixed with the same tone of vocals for every song just made me want to move on to something else.
I’ve never listened to this one before. The sleepy jazz thing is just not me. Still isn’t. Might not even get to the end of this one before it puts me to slee…zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Beautiful voice. I think this album tries to be jazz and fails. Which is all good to me because I really don't like jazz. Although I hear hints of country which I don't like either. This is the kind of album I need to listen several times to digest it. I'm finding it kinda bland. I'm not hearing here anything that blows my mind. But I'm trying to figure out why this is one of the Best selling albums of all time.
Heard of her but never heard her music. It sounds like something they'd play as background music at a cafe which in general is not good. But I'm single on Valentine's Day so this jazzy sad music works for me today. Still, not something I'd listen to often really 2/5
mixed feelings. looking at the tracks individually they’re very smooth and easy on the ear. in full the stripped back production gets a little monotonous and the songs kind of start to blend into one another. also feel like norah’s delivery on most tracks are a little emotionless. there are occasional high points that warm me up to the project, but in full im not blown away
It's ok. Mostly agreeable, easy listening. Just kinda plain. I'll admit, it grew on me the longer I listened to it....then I got bored again.
Ikke min vibe
I had this album. I don’t understand how I listened to it so much. It is dreadfully tedious.
At least it's not country, but I couldn't listen to more than 2 songs.
honestly pretty boring. some cool jazzy stuff happening here and there but nothing super special overall
This is a very well-made, well-performed album. Norah has a lovely voice, very soothing and relaxing. But at the end of the day, the album as a whole is very bland. I appreciate her talent, but the comparisons to Starbucks soundtracks do feel accurate.
In one ear out the other. Dreamgirl clears
Immediately pissed me off but ngl i would put this on if i was entertaining a shorty 😭🤣😌
Nope
Kind of like a musical lowest common denominator. It certainly qualifies as music.
Oh gosh. This boy bought this for me before I ran him off for liking me. He ended up being a decent human being, and I was sorry I had run him off. I had just turned 18.
Way too mellow for me. Kind of rough to get through
I must say that I like Norah Jones' voice, it has that soft feel to it that harmonizes well with her style of music. That said, this album didn't convince me, I mean it has some songs that I like but really listening to the almost 45 minutes that this album lasts I find it monotonous and predictable with the passing of each song. Definitely, if I were to put any of these songs on a random list it wouldn't be bad. But, staying listening to this album is like being with someone and having to constantly push them to wake up or at least change their behavior. I don't expect him to make a jazzy jump to an African dub either, but at least try to make a balance in the songs to generate a different movement that is not all ultra mega dependent to a certain harmony that eventually makes listening to the music become a tedium or give in to background music.
yo i actually wanted to like this but goddamn it's too boring, everyone's talent is great but yeah not my thing
My initial reaction was bad to getting this. It was synonymous with radio 2 middle class dinner party music for people who didnt like music but i endeavoured to give it s fair hearing. She has a nice smooth voice, and there are some nice bluesy, jazzy touches to it. I didn't find it offensive, but there really isnt much to het excited about either. It really is an exercise in audio beige.
It’s fine.
Really nice voice and all very pleasant, but found myself pretty bored of it quite quickly. All the public reviews are correct, it's something you'd have on in a cafe, which is fine, but not something I'm ever going to choose to listen to 2.5
kind of a snoozefest, even if the musicianship is good.
Spent most of the listening time worried that Spotify would now begin to suggest similar albums to me. Some nice double bass here and there though.
I survived the singer-songwriter deluge of the 2002s, and this album took me back. norah jones has a beautiful voice, but I found myself wishing I was listening to fiona apple, joni mitchell, chet baker, rufus wainwright, pretty much anything similar but so much weightier and with personality!
Coffee house Jazz may be near the bottom of my genre preferences, and this is the epitome of that genre. Can't explain why. I was very excited to learn shes Ravi Shankar kid, not sure how I'm just learning that now.
i dont like it too slow
lovely, but very samey and unchallenging and doesn't have a lot to offer besides the quality of the vocals. "don't know why" has been stuck in my craw for the past 2 decades, but the title track is the album's best offering. 2.5/5
This one was a struggle to get through. It’s the kind of music that feels like it’s tailor-made for playing softly in the background at a dentist’s office during a root canal.
Not for me. Yawn.
Nice voice but dull as fuck. Nice nostalgia trip to the early 2000's - I think my girlfriend at the time was a big fan....
I wanted to like this. Just due to how huge the album was and I want to try and get into jazz. But nothing really grabbed me. It made me want to sleep.
I’m sure this went crazy at Starbucks in the 2000s. Gangbusters at combination Starbucks-Barnes & Noble.
Dont’t Know Why - this album is a must listen This is the music Alexa plays when you ask for Sunday morning music. Norah has an undeniably beautiful voice but all of it sort of melds together, doesn’t go anywhere I find particularly interesting, and generally makes me a bit sleepy. Best - I’ve Got To See You Again Worst - Seven Years I wish I could do half stars
inte min smak
There's something deeply unsatisfying about this record. It feels incomplete, shallow, half-baked. This isn't helped by knowing Norah Jones's star musician status, and that the record is one of the best-selling of all time. All that for an album that's essentially monotonous lo-fi jazz. It gives an illusion of refined complexity by combining various elements of jazz/soul bar tunes, including soft (and very simple) percussion, back-mixed guitar strums, some scattered soul-blues piano notes, unremarkable basslines, and various toots from wind/brass instruments. The piano is definitely supposed to be the central focus of the non-vocal instruments, but as a piano player, I can say that the primarily octave-based playing isn't that interesting or complex. And there's no central exciting element to tie the music together The product is something that "feels" like it should sound good, but doesn't. Jones's vocal is fine but is overshadowed by the occasional backing vocalists, which are great. They should've been a bigger part of Jones's musical style. Guitar ballads like Seven Years and Lonestar don't do her any favours. A key problem with the album is the stark lack of riffs – or, for that matter, any memorable moments in any instruments, including the vocals. There are few highs and lows; instead, the listener receives a steady, low buzz of inoffensive low-calibre noise that pushes no boundaries and sounds kind of good, especially if you aren't paying close attention. Maybe I'm being a little harsh. It's true that I'm slightly tanking my rating to counteract some of the 5-star ratings which only seem to laud this album for its historic fame. 2/5 Key tracks: Don't Know Why, Come Away With Me, Turn Me On
Like Songs Don't Know Why
Almost too inoffensive. Great music for playing in the background, but not very interesting to listen to actively.
chill but samey snooze
I already have a preconception that I don’t like Norah Jones. Back when she was a thing, I used to hate the singles and thought she was boring as sin. Now being essentially forced to listen to this, I don’t think my opinion has really changed. It’s all vaguely nice and easy listening but nice and easy isn’t always a good thing. Happy to admit I’m wrong, pleased this isn’t one of those times
Nahh Im good, like just so fine not listening to this ever again besides maybe in the context of wanting to fall asleep
Bluesy very different voice. Not into it but very talented.
Es ist nicht schlecht, einfach ein bisschen langweilig.
perfectly inoffensive mainstream slightly jazz. Not bad but not essential listening. 2 and a bit.
Yawn. No.
This album was new to me, and an absolute delight compared to the last one, some Coldplay slog. She's a great singer, I enjoy the instrumentation, and the songs are pleasant in a moody loungy sort of way. None of that really speaks to me, so I can't really see myself seeking out more Norah, but it was certainly inoffensive.
could i write poetry to this? n
I didn't actually listen to this album. Maybe someday, but this was not that day. Instead, I listened to Fugazi's album,"Thirteen Songs." It was excellent. Five stars.
She's got a nice voice, but I don't understand how this is one of the best selling albums of all time.
A bit too easy listening.
This was pleasant but too bland. Also not at all what I was in the mood for today, so take the 2 score for what it's worth.
Inoffensive MOR music, which is a little too beige for my tastes. Can't fault her voice or songwriting, but for me I like to be moved by music and this leaves me somewhat empty. 2/5
Not too bad, surprised with how much I ended up liking, had never listened to her prior so didn’t know what to expect.
Familiar. Fave song: don’t know why. Other highlights: one flight down, nightingale. The main reason this album is famous is probably don’t know why. I was disappointed with the first half but it picked up during the latter half. I like a few tracks would only probably listen to don’t know why again
Not terrible, but very bland and boring. Ok in the background. Standout song: Nightingale
Sweet Norah. She looked better than she sounded.
This is very nice and polite and also incredibly boring. A fluffy cloud of husky vocals and twinkly piano. Background music for the most middle of the road coffee shop you can imagine.
Whimsical. Joni does it far better. Ditto Minnie Mouse.
Pleasant enough but a little insipid, no of the tracks were good enough to make me want to come back. If I’m having trouble sleeping I might play it again!
Nice enough but totally forgettable.
Jones’ voice is fantastic. Come Away with Me is elite smooth jazzy lounge music. If you walked into a hotel bar and she was played, you’ve be thankful for the incredible background music, but in the end that’s all it is. Fantastic background music 5.8/10
Not exactly pushing boundaries, but when you have a voice like that it doesn't matter how simple the music and lyrics are. I had an alright time listening to this. Actually mad that this won the Grammy though, which is an insane call. The Grammy's have always been trash though to be fair. 4.5 / 10 Best track/s: Honestly couldn't differentiate between one track or the other. The one with the piano and singer was alright.
Quite elevator music-y, easy listening, not bad persay... 2.3
If you like jazz vocals, Ms. Jones is a brilliant vocalist and this is a great album. I do not.
Yawn. Something a yuppie coffee shop would be playing
This album is kinda tricky. Is Come Away With Me anything spectacular? I don't personally think so. However, I do remember this album taking the world by storm. Don't Know Why was everywhere and Norah Jones was touted as the next big thing when this album topped the charts and collected some Grammy's. It's not something I think I need to hear before I die, but I don't think it should be ignored either. I'm a little surprised it resonated with the world as much as it did. It's not a bad album, it just seems far too mellow and jazzy to have mass appeal. It was a fine listen, but didn't move the needle much for me. I haven't thought about this album in forever and don't really have any reason to come back to it now that we are past it on the list. 2.19 stars
This is the kind of music I'm expecting to hear as I'm getting pampered, or as I'm grocery shopping. It's relaxing, Norah Jones has a soothing voice. But it's not giving me what I want when I listen to music - it doesn't capture my attention, it just blends into the background.
Quite nice but not sure it should be on this list
I didnt like this one. It was annoying, long, and dreary.
Have to agree with the majority of the other reviews. This is palatable background music while you sip a latte at a cafe. I do really like Norah Jones’ voice. But none of the songs are particularly amazing or different than dozens of other performers. 2.5/5
perus poppia ihan kiva kuitenkin...
sorry Norah I'm staying here where there might be... friction? conflict? tension? I don't know. whatever this is missing. I'm not going, ok. music: hated. (⌐■_■)
Great voice, tap water songs. Nothing objectionable about it, but none of it sticks with me and I’ll probably never think “Hey I should listen to Norah Jones.” It lacks any amount of chaos or something, I dunno.
...naaah!
This got boring a lot faster than I expected.
Yeah... can I get uhhh... an iced espresso.... with uhhh.... no sugar..... and uhhh.... pickles.... *dies instantly in a gamma ray burst that evaporates the entire planet*
Possibly the blandest album on the list so far. Smooth, easy-listening jazz and a smooth voice.
Good singer. Too slow and mellow for my tastes. Has its place
Take jazz and blues music, sand off all the sharp edges, and plug a pretty white lady at the front. This is safe music that like a Disney movie promises to not make you uncomfortable and hand you a happy ending. A warm boring hug that I guess people really resonated with after 9/11. The recordings sound great!
If a doctor ever decides that I need to be induced into a coma, I hope they accomplish it by playing this album for me on loop. It sounds GORGEOUS; from her voice, the instrumentation, the engineering, the mixing - lush, warm and clear in a way that few recordings accomplish. But the performances thus captured are just SO boring.
Not bad… not good.
Complete nothing music. Everything blended into each other and nothing caught my attention
Aburridillo y moñas, un estilo que no me dice mucho, quizá un 2 sea muy cruel porque tampoco es pecado, pero bueno, que conste que es un 2,5 bajo.
Great vocalist and beautiful lyrics, but so little variety the whole album was just the same song. Should have been at least a 3.
I’d almost give it a 3 for being perfectly fine, but she just never gets out of first gear on any of these songs
Therapy waiting room music, but some of it is nice
weird to get two ravi shankar relatives so close together. a lot of this album feels like it belongs on the soundtrack for a wintery romcom with a bittersweet ending. didn't hate it, but can't imagine ever listening again. 2.5
Nice calming vibe, good guitar not for me.
Well produced slick and oh so dull
