Reviews (page 3 of 7)

I knew 'All I Wanna Do' was a certified bop (as the kids say), but that is the extent of my Crow knowledge. Truthfully, my inital intinct was 'eugh' ... but I really enjoyed it. It's not all great, it gets a bit bogged down in place, but Sheryl's voice is great. Even though it's in that Swift/Adele arc that really isn't aimed at me I found it really easy to key in to and enjoy. A great example of why doing this thing is great for broadening horizons. I'm rounding up to a 4 for that reason.

Lovely. Would happily listen again

Blues-pop-rock. Un megahit. Venga, un 4.

I’ve come to realize that listening to full albums again that it is really hard to be consistent through an entire album. This one has some great songs. But I think it also has some filler songs. But this is a debut album too so that makes it harder too I think. I always enjoyed this album but I think she had better albums later in her career.

Really like this album. Something about her is special.

Classic Sheryl Crow album with hits, bluesy singer songwriter material that's casual and heartfelt. The album has aged well and remains a classic.

I found the song writing to get very lazy at times. Her voice is okay.

Fun album. It feels like a '90s summer day without too much of a care.

This album came up for me on Easter and that was just a perfect day for it. This is one of my dad's favorites and I've got good memories of driving around to garage sales and road trips listening to this. For a debut album is was great, but looking back knowing the rest of her career she is probably going to stay as a greatest hits kind of artist for me. Favorite track "All I wanna do" 4/5

This album is quintessential 90s listening. An absolute staple for the time. I would have given this 4 stars based solely on \"Strong Enough\" which is a damn masterpiece of a song, but luckily there's a lot of other strong tracks on this album to prop it up and even the not so great one's aren't too bad either. This is a strong 4 but not quite a 5. Standout Tracks: Strong Enough, Can't Cry Anymore, All I wanna Do

A few amazing tracks in here, really quite surprised, though some are definitely quite forgettable.

Love Sheryl

Enjoyed it more than I expected to

First of all, I prefer her subsequent self-titled album which outsold this one in the UK (but not in the US where this one was a mega hit), and I would give that one a 5. On this one, all six (!) singles are outstanding, but some of the rest drag a little. Well worth a listen, and if you like it, you'll love 1996's Sheryl Crow.

Ok, Sheryl! 4.

December 1994. The Saturday before Bar Exam week, the most stressful week of my life up until then. Trying desperately to stay awake on approximately zero hours sleep, trying to memorise one more ruling. Radio on Ray Power, Casey Kasem’s America Top 40 on syndication. And then All I Wanna Do comes on. I still have a soft spot for that song. Shame the album as a whole is a bit uneven, but, you know. The magic moments are the ones that count.

Good, but not her best.

This album was near and dear to my heart and was in my regular rotation after I graduated from college. Upon listening to it years later, I am struck by how simultaneously really good the music is and also being a little annoyed by its production values. When this album came out, of course there was no other Sheryl Crow albums out before this to compare it to. But then when you hear her subsequent album, you realize that this album, while very polished, sounded a little too "sterile", maybe because of the heavy reliance on program drums? Her next album's single If It Makes You Happy really puts this album in contrast, sounding more organic. So many good songs on this album, but Strong Enough and We Do What We Can remain my favorites.

Takes me right back to jr. high and high school. STRONG ENOUGH still one if my faves to belt along with.

Previous Familiarity: Moderate. Only familiar with the singles. Sheryl Crow was ahead of the curve as far as pop singer-songwriters of the 1990's go. Songwriting here is very strong with excellent storytelling and pop-Americana twang. The production is rustic, but clean, and the variety of styles is worth admiring. You can hear a lot of her influence in much of the indie Americana that gets released even 30 years after this albums release. I do feel like the album as a whole would benefit from reordering the tracks, as "Run, Baby, Run" is a bit too somber to kick off the album, and "All I Wanna Do" is too perfect of a song to be hid near the end of the album. Overall this record is still was quite enjoyable, and was a nice surprise!

Sometimes the right album comes along in this sequence. After a tricky week of US rock landfill a melodic album with songs and plenty of texture can seem so much better. I enjoyed this a lot, it's a good album and holds up across the whole set of songs.

Definitely not a 5 but a solid core of songs, almost dragged down to a 3 by the na-na song.

Great album. So refreshing. I'm sure there's some nostalgia kicking in too.

Pretty solid post modern roots rock.

Its got most of the hits on here

I liked the chiller vibe but it didn't wow me. - 7/10

I liked it! Very groovy. I liked a lot of the hooks. It felt more modern than some of our other albums, which makes sense since it’s one of the more recent ones. Not sure I would listen to the whole album again but definitely some of the songs. 7/10

It was good, a few bangers and the rest was enjoyable 8/10

Wow I'm very surprised. I saved multiple songs from this album. Sheryl, you gained a new fan 4.2

God how unstoppable was Sheryl Crow with this album? I appreciated the hits being a little spread around this one, the rest of the album just falls a little short of the peaks, but its still very listenable!

The hits are stone cold classics. The rest are eh

Hadn't heard many of these songs.

A big favorite in the 90’s.

This was a solid album. She has a unique voice and writing style.

Decent campfire songs. Really enjoyed the song We Do What We Can particularly. Overall, the production seems welldone. More mellow songs give the vibe that it is a live session recording. And it has a nice ambient ring.

Surprised how much I liked this. She has a great voice, and all the musicians play their part flawlessly. Every song feels unique and necessary to the album.

Nothing incredible, but it's very pleasant

Some really good tracks: All I Wanna Do, Leaving Las Vegas, Run Baby Run, Can't Cry Anymore, What I Can Do For You Easy to listen to and enjoy. 4/5

Good listen.

alright

More going on than I was expecting. I had her chalked as country pop but this jumping about genres. It feels mature but with a good sense of fun.

They definitely chose the right songs for the singles - "All I Wanna Do," "Leaving Las Vegas," and "Can't Cry Anymore" are all great. No real clunkers in the whole batch.

Album 163 of 1001 Sheryl Crow - Tuesday Night Music Club Rating : 4 / 5 Favorite Track : All I Wanna Do Good solid album. Carried by the big hit, of course, the balance holds up well. Some great rock tunes and then comes (what I feel) the Sade like 'We Do What We Can', near the end. Wasn't sure what to expect. It is a good one.

I was expecting this to be a bit of a chore, but actually no, quite a fun listen! "All I Wanna Do" has been overplayed to death so I wouldn't voluntarily listen to it again as a rule, but the rest of the album was alright. Fave track - "Run, Baby, Run" for the ones I'd heard before - that's still quite a pleasant tune, and then "What I Can Do For You" for the new-to-me tunes, and an honorable mention to "The Na-Na Song" for kinda sounding like a RHCP song!

In short: https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/043/853/cover1.jpg To elaborate: I think in my mind I had Sheryl Crow and Shania Twain in the same file folder, sometimes forgetting who's who. But damn, Sheryl is an excellent songwriter. A few on here that actually blew me away. I only knew her singles, including "All I Wanna Do," and don't get me wrong, her hits are good, but I had no idea the chops she had. And again, in my mind I think I saw her name and read "Shania Twain." Great album (and a debut to boot), love the wordy blues tracks a lot. Really cool to hear the female perspective in a blues song, there should be more of that. Favorite tracks: Leaving Las Vegas, All I Wanna Do, Strong Enough, No One Said It Would Be Easy. Album art: Not bad. Portrait, but with some artistic elements that make it interesting. Perfect for a debut of this kind. 4/5

This album was the sound of the early 90s. Sheryl Crow and the rest of the Lilith Faire Army™ domineered the popular music channels. Tuesday Night Music Club brought such a cultural shift to the sound of music that opened doors for women, but really shined a light on female Singer/Songwriters. 4/5

It's a really good debut album with solid songs that all stand on their own. Flags a little bit in the second half but overall it's great. 4 stars.

I’ve always loved this album. Gritty real world themes in an easy-going California sound. The best part though is that David Baerwald worked on this album (he of David and David’s Boomtown, one of the best obscure albums of the 80s).

I like this and you can't tell me I'm not allowed to. It's so good! Hits some soft spot for me that's emotional and comforting, just the right notes for me. A few tracks that are just a bit on the bland side, but I really appreciate the songwriting, and it just makes me feel really at home and comfy. I can't explain why I like this so much! I'm not doing a very good job at it right now. 4/5

First four songs SLAP

Easy listening, occasionally lounging rock.

Pretty ait

She's got two volumes - loud and louder.

Solid early ‘90s singer-songwriter album. Excellent to listen to while driving around on a summer day.

Blues-pop-rock. Un megahit. Venga, un 4.

I prefer her other album but I do love her work!

Surprisingly decent, not great but was enjoyable, not much to say about it either, just good

Excellent debut album. She put her all into this one, like a lot of artists do on the first. No filler, just good writing and musicianship

Excellent debut.

Listened on a Thursday which threw me. She sings well for a crow.

Verrassend leuk. Vrij simpele nummers, maar het blijkt maar weer: dat is vaak helemaal niet erg.

Likable enough, with more texture and depth than one recalls, but not exactly on the cutting edge. Her voice is not great, though the playing and the songs themselves are all decent, with more than a few resolutely above average moments throughout. Because it received more than its due, one feels no need to overpraise for posterity, however easy the listening. Still, it's more than credible and certainly convincing and "No One Said it Would Be Easy" and "We Do What We Can" and "I Shall Believe" all add depth and something like an authentic pathos. The tinge of melancholia around the edges make it worthwhile all these years later. The consistent tone and high quality throughout are to be taken seriously too. The hits are fine – "Leaving Las Vegas" grates a bit vocally and "All I Wanna Do" would be loathsomely earworm-y if the set-up weren't so winning and the day-drinking conceit not so relatable (speaking personally). One might have been suspicious of her posturing back in the day, but one gets the feel now that she was playing and singing what she knew and doing it well, too. It's near perfect on its own terms, which are, admittedly, on the slight side.

Sheryl Crow is, of course, a treasure. She sings earnestly, with no frills in the instrumentation. She takes on the core of her songwriting with fun, vulnerability, and honesty. It's a thoughtful album that doesn't try to be too hard on itself. Is it kind of simple and safe? Sure, but sometimes that just works. It works really well here.

Some of the best 90's alt rock with those shimmering, layered guitar sounds that almost cross over into country, but are also rock, also pop all at once. The first four songs are spectacular, then the album slows down a bit until "All I Wanna Do" steals the show. I remember hearing it on the radio and having no idea what the words were when she said "Santa Monica Boulevard." I suppose it clicked when I finally made a trip to LA.

Some real gems on here. Took me right back to high school!

Not a huge SC fan, but I do appreciate that she is a decent song writer. She writes good melodies.

These are such bops

I bought this at the time and it's still good to listen to. It's maybe a bit dated but in a weird time capsule inbetween the 70's Country and 80's Smooth rock.

I am a fan of Sheryl Crow at times I liked the songwriting on this album

Facettenreiches Album. Schöne Songs, rockige Songs, stimmig. Sehr gut anzuhören.

Another very good, but not great album. The collaborative approach (the Tuesday Night Music Club) is the key here. There is a looseness and eclecticism that is not present on the later releases. Some of her collaborators are tremendously talented (David Baerwald, Bill Bottrell, and especially the late Kevin Gilbert) and helped to shape the sound here. The classic rock elements that became stronger throughout her career are present here, but the freshness is what is at the forefront.

Really good breakthrough album. Clever and sometimes acerbic lyrics with great melodies.

A good showcase of her talents, I think her self-titled second album is better.

oh it was very cunt and slay

I saw Sheryl Crow in concert while she was touring to support her follow up album to this one. She had a ton of hits by that point (her self titled follow up had as many hits as this album, maybe even more). Of course she played them all, even made sure to diss Walmart (who refused to sell her albums because she called them out about selling guns on her second album. But what I remember most about the concert is she had two opening acts. The first was Dishwalla, who had a hit song called "Counting Blue Cars" that blatantly referred to God as a "her". The second performer was Lisa Loeb who had that song from Reality Bites that actually went to number 1. And if we're being honest, Loeb's "Stay (I Missed You)" is the song that is still played the most from all the hits performed that night from either 1996 or 1997. Lisa Loeb had a handful of minor hits after "Stay", but nothing as far reaching as her chart topper. Meanwhile, Sheryl Crow looked to all the world like she might become the Joni Mitchell or Carole King of her generation. This album was huge when it was released, especially "All I Wanna Do". Kurt Cobain had just died, and grunge along with him. Sheryl Crow's timing was perfect. People wanted a "happier" sound, or at least one that wasn't so angry. And a sexy new female claiming that all she wanted to was have some fun captured that mood. It seemed everyone loved her. She'd win a slew of Grammy's the following year, and survive a backslash from a lot of members of the Tuesday Night Music Club who attempted to discredit her contributions (there's a whole ugly backstory you can do a deep dive on, which includes the suicide of her ex who wrote a lot of this album). Give Sheryl credit for following that ordeal up with two (even better?) albums that kept generating hits. She may not have become another Joni Mitchell, and I don't even think that was her aspiration. Both the older and younger generations adore her, and frankly it's surprising she's not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She survived Lance Armstrong. And fucking cancer. Unlike Dishwalla, she's still recording decent music and probably will for years to come.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: All I wanna do

Was not too familiar with Sheryl Crow’s works before hearing this album. It was truly the perfect introduction to her. Excellent songwriting, a truly original voice.

Sheryl Crow is an icon

Beneath the production there’s some cracker songs here.

This one surprised me actually. I expected a pretty run of the mill country pop album, and a few songs are kind of exactly that, buts there’s some really good stuff on here as well. Sheryl touches on some pretty heavy/taboo topics with quality finesse. I also enjoyed the R&B and jazz influences quite a bit. 7/10

Why didn’t I give Cheryl Crow a chance before?

Tók ég eftir þessu í gamla daga? Já, en bara All I want to do. Var þetta tebollinn minn þá? Já nei nei. Hvað finnst mér í dag? Fín production, vel áheyrilegt, oft catchy og barasta alveg ágætt, takk fyrir. Hlustaði tvisvar, gæti aftur.

Surprisingly I didn’t hate hearing all I wanna do on this album even though they played it once every 20 minutes when I worked at hyvee. Otherwise the album was better than I was expecting since I’ve never been super impressed by Sheryl crow. The first song was pretty good

Genuint kinda getat

This was a nice surprise, I've always liked Sheryl Crow's singles but maybe have underestimated her in the past. This was a really enjoyable listen, solid album!

Liked a lot more than I thought I would

Some great songs in here, a little over-produced which seems to cowl her cry at times. Strong Enough and All I Wanna Do are crackers, the later was huge when I was a kid

Good album to listen to as I’m doing my laundry and housework. As a songwriter myself I can definitely admire her skills, great story telling. 5 songs in and instrumentally nothing is really sticking out to me. No songs so far have made me go and save them to my designated 1001 albums playlist. “We Do What We Can” is a beautiful ballad with dreading keys, high hats that feel like they are slowly creeping up to you, the horns that pop in and out and not to mention that drum/percussion section in the middle to really elevate the song. Sheryl’s vocals are the strongest for me on this song. Favourites: Solidify, All I Wanna Do, We Do What We Can

What an amazing debut album! I had never listened to this, although I know several of the songs. A great and interesting variety of songs. Absolutely enjoyable listening.

I think I like Sheryl Crow more in theory than in practice. I was excited when this album showed up, because it had been so long since I last listened to it. Turns out maybe the extended time between listens was because I find the album as a whole a bit boring.

First things first: All I Wanna Do is a brilliant, brilliant pop song with its evocative imagery and beyond-catchy chorus. (It once caused my exuberantly drunk brother-in-law to attack me and my husband with a lint roller.) That's a lot for the rest of the album to live up to and unfortunately it can't quite reach the bar. But Crow is a talented musician and this is some solid southern country rock mixed with a few other styles (smoky piano ballad We Do What We Can is another standout).

I had this on CD. It's pretty much a thing of its time, I guess. It has its moments and I like it but I wouldn't consider it essential.

To be honest I don't really like Sheryl Crow's voice, so I'm a bit biased against this album. That said, the actual lyrics and vocals are well done, so that regains some esteem in my eyes. I want to like this album more than I actually do. Obviously "All I Wanna Do" (fave track) is worth the price of admission alone, but the deep cuts are often solid too--personally I also loved "Leaving Los Vegas" and "No One Said It Would Be Easy." Overall solidly enjoyable but I'd only re-listen to about a third of the album.

I am very pleased this album is a part of the list. I listened to the excellent episode of Bandsplained they did on Sheryl and I really came to appreciate her music and career arc. But I had assumed that this would be a situation of one of the best selling albums of the decade with inescapable radio play and music videos on all the time but not critically appreciated. Much like the situation in this book of Shania Twain. Really like All I Wanna Do, Strong Enough and Can’t Cry Anymore. While it’s not on this record, If It Makes You Happy is top 10 (maybe 5) of the 90s.

This was a really fun listen. This is incredibly chill music with the swanky guitar lines, the thumping bass, and Crow's complementary vocals. A great debut.

Pleasantly surprised by how funky this album was

A good old fashioned feel good album. I forgot how much I used to listen to this.

Leuk luisteralbum. Maar eerder wat achtergrondmuziek imho. Wel mooie teksten en goeie zangeres

TE AMO

good stuff.

Well I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. Some duds but overall pretty surprisingly good. Like 3.75 stars probably.

Listened to on 4/13/22 4/5 Favorite song: Strong Enough, All I Wanna Do Solid bops would recommend

4/13/22 I was more excited for this than was actually realized. My expectations let me down and maybe that’s my fault, but I just wasn’t impressed. The two songs I know I enjoyed but other than those, I don’t really love Sheryl Crow. Favorite song: All I Wanna Do

Oh did I feel all 1990's dancing in the morning spring sun to this. Hadn't listened to the album for 20+ years so needed reminding Sheryl is far more than a one hit wonder. Some great tunes here.

Always loved this album and Sheryl crow

Sheryl Crow has lovely, soothing voice and casual style that is really attractive. I like the hits and most of the other songs on this album. 3.5 and rounding up.

Favorite: All I Wanna Do

Such a good album. Several of her biggest hits all in one

All I wanna do is have some fun?

Solid. There's a handful of great songs on here, the rest are just OK. Only one or two that I legitimately didn't like. Went in with low expectations, and pretty pleasantly surprised by it.

Un muy buen disco de rock clásico con una voz femenina muy sugerente y con buenos tonos. Canciones bien elaboradas y muchas que han aguantado el paso del tiempo.

Way better than I remembered

This is an almost perfect record. I'm giving it a 4. It isn't top notch like the handful of records I'll likely be rating as a 5 here. But it represents a moment, after Grunge brought authentic (no gated snare drums) pop-rock back into the collective consciousness. So, records like this and Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms, etc. were able to thrive in all their organic and human glory. I love Sheryl Crow's voice and had a crush on her because of this record. My sister bought the CD. I stole it from her along with No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom. For sure, Sheryl Crow was important for opening my eyes to how much prettier music can be when there is a femal vocalist. Why she had to work with Kid Rock later on, I'll never know. That's too bad. Her song on the Cars soundtrack is good too.

All I wanna do is have some fun...

Full of bangers! Great album

Opening track has some biiiiiiiig Sara Bareilles energy. Strong Enough is a certified banger. Its really interesting to hear her in her release. So much of her sonic landscape feels so different from what it would become. The country elements are there, but its such a pop record. All I Wanna Do is also certified banger status for good reason. We Do What We Can really sticks out on this album. In general a solid album with a set of weird closers.

I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would.

Not bad one!

Muy molón! Hay algunas canciones que no me mueven tanto, pero tiene un rollazo!

Good chilled vibes, liked it :)

Good album, but hardly a real classic. Still 4 stars for being comfort food for my ears.

Really enjoyed this, will give it another listen again.

Her best song is still If It Makes You Happy

Pretty good ol' Sheryl is

I like it. Cant lie. I’ll listen to it again.

pleasantly surprised. this was really nice and felt like there was a lot of range ^~^

Iznenadjujuce zanimljiv. - Run, baby, run - We do what we can - I shall believe

Really solid.

It’s good, was just overplayed at the time

Not a bad listen - quite enjoyed

She has a good voice and a solid opening album from her.

I feel like a lot of her work is hit or miss for me-Run Baby Run great opening track. Then Leaving Las Vegas-hard pass. Too much repetition & vocals too shrill. Whole album was like that

Predates Jagged Little Pill by a couple of years. Jagged Little Pill is the far superior album. This is... Pleasant enough. Very heavy on driving home the chorus, though. Also a bit too country-tinged in quite a lot of places. Somebody wrote it's a bit lile a female Tom Petty. Which was a bit of a shock because I love Tom Petty. But yeah, I can hear the influence here, once I'm atuned to it. In the keyboards, the rhythm guitars, background vocals, and even in the way a lot of the vocal lines are phrased. Thing is... Crow's voice doesn't have the same grit and weariness that Petty's had, and doesn't add enough of its own. And Jesus, how they decided to absolutely repeat the chorus to oblivion in every song.

I am familiar with Sheryl Crow and currently have 7 songs liked by her on Spotify - including 1 song from this album "Strong Enough". Thoughts after listening 3 times ... It's a decent listen. Nothing earth shattering but most of it is pretty ok. I ended up liking 6 "new to me" songs - a few of which I did remember from when this first came out - "Leaving Las Vegas", "Can't Cry Anymore", "The Na-Na Song", "No One Said It Would be Easy", "All I Wanna Do", "What Can We Do". A couple songs surprised me since they were unexpected from Sheryl Crow - "The Na-Na Song" which seemed kinda funky and also "We Do What We Can" which was sorta jazzy. The song "No One Said It Would be Easy" reminded me a bit of Lucinda Williams - which is a good thing. Funny - I had the album called "Boomtown" by David and David - who are David Baerwald and David Rickets - which came out like 6 or 7 years before this. Apparently they were prominent contributors for this album - playing and songwriting. Cool connection. Liked songs on Spotify: 7/11 Rating: 3/5

cool album.

It was a strong start, then faded.

Deserves her flowers. It's basically a Tom Petty record.

Super generic 90s. At least it’s not super bloated. “All I Wanna Do” is still a banger.

Good sound and vibe but only a handful of good tunes.

Songwriting and, at times, the strain in Crow's voice, are the weaknesses here, but nevertheless I did enjoy it more than I expected.

good enough but feels a bit like a less interesting fiona apple, leaving las vegas was a highlight though

i like about half of this, some 90’s pop with a tinge of country is ok in small doses for me. Standouts are Run, Baby, Run, Solidify, All I Wanna Do, We Do What We Can and I Shall Believe.

Whenever I think “Throw on some Sheryl Crow!”, it’s sunny, and the mood is high. Those are her hits, what’s she’s best known for I guess. I liked this album well enough, but I was surprised at how morose some of it is. It sounds like a break up album. It wasn’t a great album, but there’s a few picks that really showcase her talent, I think she’s awesome and am always happy when she comes on and this album didn't do anything to negate that. Also, her in the 90s….😮‍💨

I loved this album when it came out and it still has a spot in my heart

I'm just not really sure about this one... For some reason I'm having a hard time deciding what I like and don't like about this album, and because of that, I'm really struggling to decide whether I like this album in general. I think her voice is cool, it's strained and angsty while still maintaining a laissez faire, unbothered quality. The music itself is polished and crisp, but there's just some hidden thing that isn't gelling together here - I just don't think this is a very exciting project. To me, this is more of a 2.5/5, but I like her enough to round up to a 3.

Eh, it's fine I guess? I don't really have much to say about it. It's nothing special but it's not bad. Performed well, catchy enough, easy to listen to. Yeah. It's fine.

This was fun! First three tracks were great and then I kinda became less interested after. But I enjoyed my experience overall

A solid 3 rated nice album. I prefer her vocals when she’s in her lower end of her range, as can get a bit shrieky! 2nd half of the album better than the first, with ‘No One Said It Would Be Easy’ being the stand out, for great guitar work and vocals.

# Album Name: Tuesday Night Music Club # Artist: Sheryl Crow # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: Not bad all things considering. A few good tracks. # Top Tunes: Run baby Run / All i wanna do / LLV / trong Enough # Would I listen to it again? No

Sheryl was all over the 90s. Typical hit songs that the radio loves, mixed with boring filler. But I am sure it was a formula that worked for her. Not sure why this is on this list TBH.

Some decent songs here, keyword SOME. At times she's just talking and the instrumentation ain't that unique

#962. Fun enough to listen to pop music. 3/5: acceptable

I didn't think id like this album, but color me surprised. I count this in the same vein as Garbage and other girl bands form the early- mid 90's. Not pioneering, but definitely a wave of music that has its place and its fans. Some good Proctor and gable advertisement music in this album for sure.

Not my fav.Not a memorable sound, its good and nice but normal. Mix of country pop rock.

Ehhhh. 'All I Wanna Do' was/is so catchy - such a great song, but so overplayed in 93-94 that I still don't think I'm over it. Most of the rest of the album was fine. There are times when she's straining to hit the notes and it doesn't seem gritty, it just seems not that great.

It's interesting to listen back to this one. The songs are strong and catchy but Sheryl hadn't quite found her voice yet. TNMC almost a Rickie Lee Jones tribute album.

This takes me back to my earliest days of watching videos on MTV. I remember 'All I Wanna Do' was in heavy rotation at that time. The singles on this album are good, but the rest doesn't grab me. 3.5 stars.

The singles are obviously catchy and the other songs laegelynhold their own. This might have been a 4 star album if some part of my brain didn't think of this as "an album my mom liked" ...even though I'm now older than she was when it came out.

Holy shit, 'All I Wanna Do' was overplayed so much when this came out, to the point that it was stuck in my head BEFORE I started listening to this album. So I went in a little biased. After listening, my overall impression is...not bad? The singles remain pathologically catchy, there's good variety over the course of the album, and while the creaky strain of her voice wears thin after a while, that variety keeps things fresh enough. That said, there's a definite poppy nature to most of this at the end of the day. It washes over you but for the ear worm singles, nothing landing a really compelling impression. A pleasant way to pass 49 minutes, but probably won't stay with me beyond lunch time.

7/10 - Classic 90s. Didn't realize that all i wanna do is the 90s hey ya! Fav Tracks: All i wanna do, Run baby run, leaving las vegas Heard before? ---–- ✅ Saved a Song? ----- ✅ Saved Album? --–-- ✅ Will Listen Again? -- ❌ Album Cover -------Room for squares

Decent vibes, good diversity. Never quite hit, plus All I Wanna Do is such a weird song to have gotten popular

Inoffensive 90s adult pop-rock with a slight "americana" sound.

I really enjoyed the singles that I remember from the 90's but the rest of the album didn't really leave an impression on me.

Not a great album, like the singles

I’m pretty sure I used to have this CD, but a lot of this sounds unfamiliar, so maybe not. Some good times in here though.

Overall, a solid album with some big hits. Nothing groundbreaking, but a nice time capsule of this sound from the mid 90s.

This album is not bad, actually. I've liked some tracks, but most of the songs are pretty bland. Sure, this is not Crow at her best, just a mid album that is cute, but just that. Very forgettable, also. I don't understand the appeal of this album, I get it's an enjoyable record, but I haven't found it exciting or interesting in any sense. So, well, I must say I already knew I wasn't going to love it, but some songs are nice. So I'll focus on that.

not above average but some songs were good!

While I quite like Sheryl Crow generally, this doesn't feel like an example of her best work. Some of the styles here don't really work and sound dated, and while the album has a decent start there's a particularly weak finish. I'd listen again, though.

I enjoyed this album quite a bit more than I thought I would. I was aware of the one single, but listening I realized I had actually heard quite a few tracks on this one. She's got a great voice, the musical arrangements are solid.

Some of these songs have a lot of depth. The stand out is obviously All I Want To Do but there are some hidden gems in here.

I don’t have a to say about this one. It’s good, it’s has some classics. Is it essential? Ehhh, maybe not. But I’m glad to have listened.

it's fine

Nice music to listen to

I thought Sheryl Crow was country for some reason. But this is definitely not what I expected. Pretty good though.

Enjoyable but not particularly stand-out. 7/10 Quite Likeable

I'm not sure why I always though Sheryl Crow was a country artist growing up. I enjoyed this album more than I thought, but only added about half of the album to my likes.

Not bad at all and really quite good if all you want to do is have some fun.

icl i was skeptical when i saw this but whys it good nevermind got sick of ts 6.5/10

Run Baby Run is a great song, but it’s really not a great way to start an album. Feels like something that would be halfway through. I liked this one! Drags a bit in the middle but starts and finishes strong. Favorites were Run Baby Run, Leaving Las Vegas, and All I Wanna Do.

This music is fine, but not exactly my cup of tea.

Favourite Songs: Solidify The Na-Na Song

Simple, reasonably effective country-ish-pop. Run Baby Run is just excellent. Intense, dramatic, yet fairly understated. That slowish use of a 6/8 time signature reminds me of Five Years, one of the all-time legendary album openers. Another user wrote that "It's too bad Run, Baby, Run isn't more well-known. It's a great tune." True, though looking at the steep competition it had to compete against (from other artists), I can't say I'm surprised. Strong Enough also stands out, this time for its simplicity. You listen to it in a bit of a trance until the backing vocals join in – which are great, and arguably pull you further into Crow's dreamy world. Definitely some weak songs to go around. The Na-Na Song features an extremely questionable vocal effect and Crow being bizarrely attached to a note that clashes completely with the chord being played. The next track, No One Said It Would Be Easy, suffers from a slow, dreary mood at a point on the album where we really needed a pick-me-up. Album sequencing is important here. Albums that regularly switch between high- and low-energy atmospheres are usually optimal. What I Can Do For You isn't perfect – in fact, it's pretty repetitive – but it gets the job done and allows the listener to start grooving again after two consecutive weaker songs. Then there's All I Wanna Do, with its Graceland-era Simon-esque delivery and tried-and-true VIb-VIIb-I chord progression. I'm telling you, those harmonies never miss. I appreciate the combination of rhythmic, semi-aggressive acoustic guitar and hand-clapping (coupled with a few other pieces of light percussion). And We Do What We Can tempers the mood a little with some soft jazz. 3/5 Key tracks: Run Baby Run, Strong Enough, All I Wanna Do

Bon! Un bon 3

I think Sheryl Crow was never in the right lane. Obviously, she is successful, but she’s never quite country enough for country, folk enough for folk, or pop enough for pop. This record, feels like she’s sampling all of it (and even kind of trying to rap at one point. I’m not sure if it’s ambitious or misguided. This record definitely has songs that I liked, but I’m not all in on it.

It's bland, but like perfectly bland

Country pop?

Fine. I was unpacking while listening to this so I was not giving it my full attention

Really just made me want to listen to Shania Twain

I mean I guess it's alright. The lyrics are very upbeat / optimistic to the point where they become a bit of detrimental because there's not much that's actually interesting buried in the lyrics.

Country, but a few tracks that mixed it up just enough to be interesting.

The hits are solid and memorable. Good clean easy listening.

not my style but it won me over. i think hearing All I Wanna Do makes me angry. favorite song is Run, Baby, Run

Ok so I do kind of dislike Sheryl Crow but listening to a whole album gave me enough context to look past the hits I've heard a thousand times. I still don't like her voice and her (purposely?) janky crappy singing style, but the album as a whole was pretty stylish and at least stuck to a theme, which I can respect. We Do What We Can was also cool af. Better than I expected 6.2/10

Catchy, divertido, me gustó

I honestly had low expectations but this was quite fun, especially tracks like the beautifully written “Run Baby Run", the subterranean homesick blues-esque “The Na-Na song" and even the hit “All I Wanna Do”. Those tracks stand out but the rest goes from alright to boring.

Better that I expected.

I was already to call this a one hit wonder and then make a comment about her backing for MJ. Then I listened to it and remembered some other songs.

Inoffensive, easy listening but not my usual cup of tea. I remember a couple of these songs from release but haven’t heard them in quite a while

You know what, I expected this to be bad and it wasn't. It's not my ticket, it's a bit middle of the road and whatever, but it's definitely not bad.

Un peu degente, un peu country, assez population, des musiques très marquantes comme solidify, une voix niaise parfois ou tres enfant. Pas une voix extraordinaire mais j’ai bien aime dans l’ensemble

Reading the story behind this record really helps understand it more and appreciate it, loved the first and last one on there.

6,8/10

Easy listen with some notable songs.

Good, esp All I Wanna Do 3.3

Better than I remember.

I find Sheryl Crow's music to be a bit boring. I like the one really popular song but nothing on this album really grabbed me.

Nothing here got me too excited, but it was enjoyable. The style feels a bit like an earlier Taylor Swift, with the mix of pop/country/slow rock. It doesn't reach those same highs, catchiness, and lyrics imo, but still enjoyable.

She’s a great songwriter and All I Wanna Do is just a brilliant song even all these years later but the album didn’t do much for me overall. Very little stood out.

A mix of really uninteresting sounds and a few bangers. Gonna score it right in the middle.

At my first job my coworker said he used to whack off to this album cover. I think the album art is better than the music, however fuck you, Neil. I can't listen to this the same way anymore.

I love her, the vibes are very free and summer and girly.

It was nice!

6/10 – Decent

I was a bit freaked out by this because why did I actually… like it??? I was expecting this, based on my knowledge of Sheryl Crow’s music prior to this (which consisted pretty much solely of the odd appearance on TOTP in the mid-90s), to be 90s MOR radio-oriented pop, in other words not my thing. (I am coming to the realisation reading this over that this might be a product of my internalised misogyny with a sprinkle of the ol’ taste brainwashing from the parents/dad.) While I don’t know whether I’ll be listening to this beyond this setting it definitely was not that- as another user said the influences on here are surprisingly diverse! at times it’s quite post-punk-y and even gets funky on ‘Solidify’!! Some quite interesting and unexpected instrumentation choices scattered across this too, I thought ‘Solidify’ and ‘We Do What We Can’ had several of these particularly re: percussion. The production starts off fairly typical of blown-out 90s radio pop on the first track as I was expecting but it definitely dials down as it continues. I hate to be that person to compare a woman to a man (I’m a woman myself I promise) BUT at times it did genuinely seem as though Crow was trying to do an early Bob Dylan impression in terms of her phrasing and the continuity and vague referentiality of her lyrics. This was particularly obvious on ‘Na Song’ which I actually liked but it seemed to draw not very subtly from ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’. Yet even these didn’t bother me much as they probably would’ve done had I not been so taken by the shock of the realisation that I was actually enjoying a Sheryl Crow album 😃 Hell, from the barrage of seemingly disparate, vague political-historical references crowded alongside each other on certain tracks which rarely seem to serve any higher purpose (see the aforementioned ‘Na Song’, also ‘We Do What We Can’ unfortunately), I suspect there was a certain amount of throwing in said references to appear cool/politically conscious/Dylanesque/for the sake of it in the writing process - Sheryl, you are very lucky my expectations were so low and my auditory processing skills so poor to begin with that I found it nearly impossible to actively listen to your lyrics on the first few listens!! However I think there is something to be said for the melodies here too - oftentimes they were strong and interesting enough to distract me from any potentially lazy lyricism :) While had I listened to this not knowing it was on this list I might have given it a 4/5, I am settling on a 3 (albeit a high one) instead as I do not think, especially given all of the historically really important artists that are not represented at all on here, that this necessarily deserves a place on the list of ‘Albums You Must Listen to Before You Die’. I think the only basis on which I could justify its inclusion to myself is as a relic of its era, but even then it wasn’t AFAIK as though Sheryl Crow or her music were landmark cultural icons of the 90s. Oh also this album OPENS - yes, the very first words of the first track - with the lines: “She was born in November 1963 The day Aldous Huxley died” which might be the funniest literature-adjacent reference I’ve ever heard in any song holy shit

Ihan menevää musiikkia. Väsyneenä tästä ei kauheasti jäänyt mieleen.

Was fine 3 star

decent album

Favorite songs: Run Baby Run, Leaving Las Vegas, Strong Enough, All I Wanna Do 3.5

Nice pop folk rock. Some catchy tunes, like I’ll I Want. But overall, I’d say it’s an average record.

Definitely Sheryl Crow

Moderately nostalgic, which made this better than I would have thought. Probably won't listen to it again.

If she had been 10-15 years younger when this album dropped, she would have been in the Brittany/Christina pop club. This album is now a grocery store staple. Is mom pop rock a thing? Influence 3. Hits 4. Quality 3. Intangibles 4. Super meh 2.

it's alright?

Nothing like listening to an album where you've heard the songs in Kia commercials. There is a lot here. I hear some Dave Matthews on the beats, I hear some Stevie Wonder on "What I can do for you". I really like this, it is country and rock mixed, but she sings so well, and I think a lot of the songs will be in the rotation. I just think it is too long. Like we do what we can sets a great scene with its premise, but it feels a bit weak on the come-up. The ending track is a slog that doesn't really work for me the guitar just feels off, but I really like this it is a 6 for its slight theme of different genre bending

Alright country, but nothing stand out for me

6,5/10 Highlights: Run, Baby, Run All I Wanna Do

Mot bad but not great either. Wouldn't listen to this again.

nice to listen to a woman for a change not really my type of beat, but she sounds great tho

Don't vape guys

If I could give half stars, id give this 3.5. Very enjoyable, just too many songs that lasted too long that I didn’t care about

Dull dull dull

I get that it's culturally important, but it's not really my type of music. It was fine and good enough though.

It’s a Tuesday so the stars are aligning.

Another solid 90s album. Even the bland mainstream music was top quality.

Pretty good

Surprised to see this on the list. Quite like some of Sheryl Crow’s music, but this debut is too one dimensional for me to listen to. This hits are good, but as an album it drags on a bit. Follow up is much better for me. 2.5 rounded up to a 3

I really liked Sheryl Crow's voice on this album. Nice fun listen while doing some chores around the house. 3/5 stars.

don't get me wrong, it was good! just not entirely my cup of tea. I did learn, however, that Sheryl Crow has a song in the Cars soundtrack. Neat!

First track and All I Want To Do are great, the rest didn't quite live up to it

Yep. It's a Sheryl Crow album. Joyful early 90's.

Several classics, but didn't like the other songs as much. Can't believe this is over 30 years old...

Overall, it’s a decent album. There were some parts I didn’t really enjoy, but on the flip side, I think a lot of that comes from being burned out on 90s female adult contemporary music, mostly because it was completely shoved down our throats at the time. If I separate that bias, this is actually a pretty laid back album and a nice one to put on at the start of the day.

Ok at best.

Overall: 6/10 Sheryl is a great singles artist. I actually love more of her songs than I thought I did, and there's a few on this one that I didn't even realize were her songs. The non singles don't hit as hard for me, but there wasn't really anything on here that I would call bad. It's a fun pop rock album that you can have fun with if you don't take it too seriously. Fav Song: All I Wanna Do

I thought I would really hate this, but listening to it while walking around the park made me feel alive + human. Enjoyed the album until the final 2-3 songs, maybe a touch same-y overall. But I like Sheryl's voice! Run Baby Run, Leaving g Las Vegas and Solidify were my faves

I kind of enjoyed it, she's not an awful singer, most of the songs weren't very memorable. Wouldn't be likely to listen again

Amerikansk pop-rock fra midterste hylde. Der er nogle få sange der står ud, men hold nu op hvor er de også start 90er agtige.

Prvi put da sam ovo poslušao od početka do kraja mislim. Meni je ovo dosta prosječno.

Comfortable, melodic and sneakily solid (3.5)

A mainstay on 90s pop radio, lots of catchy songs here that have a little more depth and feeling behind them than other lesser pop albums.

6.5/10 I was pretty much unaware of the artist besides knowing her name, so I didn’t have any expectations going in and there was definitely some solid songs on here but towards the second half of the album it gets a bit boring and a handful of songs here drag on a bit too long or repeat the chorus one too many times. Favorite song: solidify Least favorite: I shall believe

Pop rock that is a lot more pop than rock. The lyrics and vocals are very generic. The instrumentation isn’t bad, but it’s repetitive and doesn’t stand out much. It’s a fine album but literally didn’t make me feel anything.

Nice but not overachieving voice. Nice and laid back, but not mind-blowing. 3* Highlights: strong enough

I've always avoided Sheryl Crow, I guess because I lumped her in with the pop country scene in the early 2000s, which it turns out wasn't really a fair assessment. In fact, even though I think there's an Americana slant here, there's not a whole lot of capital C "Country" on Tuesday Night Music club. I'll just unhelpfully, but not dishonestly, call this "pop" for now, even though there is certainly more going on. Although, enough with labels, the most important thing here is that the songs on this album are really enjoyable and well-written. And I enjoyed her lyrics a lot too: I think she writes about hope and determination in a way that a lot of songwriters struggle to. Sheryl Crow doesn't come across as cloying or saccharine at all, and she has some real lyrical meat on these songs too, with very little "fluff". Although, I will say, the aesthetic here doesn't always hit for me. There are some songs here that do get a *little* too close to the modern country sound that I just can't really do. But, on the other end of things, the full arrangements here do give these songs the capacity to have some really cool flourishes. For example, anytime the bass playing asserts itself, the way it fits into the mix results in some really cool moments. But, as I mentioned earlier, the real key to this album's success is that these songs all have a really solid core. And I think the best song here is We Do What We Can. It has a really cool, uniquely moody tone that I didn't expect the album to bring so late in the runtime. It is also a deceptively sparse mix, the first half is mostly super cool bass playing, piano, some guitar and trombone flourishes, and a noir-ish drum machine. But at about the halfway mark of this song, the tempo suddenly hits double-time, trades the drum machine for a live kit, and expands the sound of the arrangement greatly. When I first listened to this song, I was kind of floored by this sudden drop. This is the second to last song of the album, and nothing else on the album features anything like this, so the sudden realization that Sheryl Crow has the vision to pull off songwriting tricks like this was really cool. Ultimately, I liked this quite a bit. There are plenty of great pop songs, and some cool tricks. And even though I don't always like the production direction here, it's not actively in my way of enjoying this (most of the time). Stuff like this is one of the reasons I started doing this challenge. Every once in a while it's good to be forced into a world that you maybe unfairly dismissed.

decent. but not decent enough. 3.5/5

It was alright, I did have some fun, but not too much fun

A liberating and often heartfelt album. That is always nice to listen to but never great (other than all I wanna do and possibly run baby run and leaving last Vegas )

not a bad album but not sure how it made the list.

Singer- songwriting that can be described as perfectly fine. 6/10

I was digging some of this, but most of it is just sort of... there. It's not annoying, or bad, but it just doesn't really have a lot to offer me.

Not bad. Very 90’s

Nice pop album, but nothing too crazy about it. I'd put it on if I wanted just some background music playing for easy listening. Standout tracks are - obviously - the hit All I Wanna Do, as well as the song Strong Enough. 7 / 10.

The click bait:  ITS LIKE JEKYLL AND HYDE CAME TO SPANK ME!!! Here's what we have Typical Crow - "Run Baby Run", "Leaving Las Vagas", "All I Wanna Do" Then some low rent ones (extremely repetitive and deviate from what is already a middle of the road album) - "Solidify" a weird semi dance / pop track which was at odds with the rest of the album. Going off typical wasn't always bad and most are repetitive but I actually likes some of them like "No one said it would be easy" as an example as that had a bit of feeling and mood to it. I am not struggling to listen to this as such, but I do struggle to form an opinion as I just don't think it's that good as an average.  There is the odd track that seems to suit me and there are times where the tempo drops in a cool way and there is an interesting piano interlude near the end for example.  Otherwise, despite expecting better I have to say it struggled to maintain a notable mention for me.  Started OK, dire middle and just when it got OK, it ended.  Oh and then another bloody CD followed! It's like Jekyll and Hyde has come to spank me.  I loved the first track of the next album.  So, I went all in yet again.  The very next track was sub average loop the loop pop. I cant in good concious slam this.  This is a person that has great tallent as actually it was a very artistically diverse album.  It was interesting at times and it made me go mental with this review so there is that.  When she gets off the carosel there are lots of examples of lyrical strength.

My internal prejudice led me to expect this album to be awful. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised. The songs are generally well written and convincingly performed. Production quality is solid. There seems to be something very nineties about this type of singer/songwriter, soft-rock album. It's very radio-friendly and something you can imagine your mum jamming out to in the family car. Ultimately, there is something timelessly appealing about a nice singer singing some nice songs. Not ground-breaking but solid.

Its nice. I especially liked What I Can Do For You. Its boring but its good.

good start, bit downhill after that xx would listen to all i want to do again. actually spoke too soon, last two songs are so much better

A little mellow for my tastes but there's some good hooks here (and standout singles). Top tracks: "All I Wanna Do," "Leaving Las Vegas," "Run, Baby, Run"

Why is this album so long? It's good but damn.

--Run, Baby, Run...seems a little like-gulp-easy listening --Leaving Las Vegas...I feel like I'm shopping for turquoise jewelry in Flagstaff --Strong Enough... more easy listening but this is stronger (heh) songwriting than preceding tracks. surprise! it's only three minutes long. take note, singer-songwriters --Can't Cry Anymore...sure --Solidify...okay we're bringing the funk now. this is fun. I'm having fun --The Na-Na Song...this is weird. don't love it but I appreciate weird --No One Said It Would Be Easy...too long, Sheryl --What I Can Do For You...not bad but nothing special --All I Wanna Do...I do remember when this song first exploded. I thought it was a refreshing change of pace from the other radio hits I had heard to that point. To be fair, I was eight --We Do What We Can...more of a jazz lounge singer number. I like it. smooth and sexy. not too cheesy. maybe too long --I Shall Believe...I think I would rate this album higher if the fun weirdness of the middle tracks weren't bookended by uninspired and overlong adult contemporary

My girl forever but a couple duds

I just don't like a lot of 90s music, but this was better than most I guess.

I’m not sure if this is better or worse than The Black Album

Some good songs on here, it didn't elevate to a 4 though.

All I Wanna Do bumps up this otherwise unentertaining album by 1 whole star.

I've always liked Sheryl Crow. Fun fact: she created one of my favourite Bond themes in the often forgotten Tomorrow Never Dies. The movie deserves to be forgotten, not the song. It's no secret that I'm not a fan of country music, but this falls more into something you might call "Americana". There's a folky, bluesy feel to everything. I'm particularly fond of those sharp 7th notes that she throws into her music. Overall, I enjoyed everything I heard on this album. "Run, Baby, Run" hurts my head with vocals that seem to be running asynchronously to the melody (has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me??), but it's catchy as hell. There's a great run from the opening track through "Leaving Las Vegas", one of the most 90s sounding songs of the 90s, "Strong Enough", with its laid-back folky atmosphere, "Can't Cry Anymore", defying you to not get it stuck in your head, "Solidify" sneaking in a bit of funk, before the nutty "The Na-Na Song" channelling Subterranean Homesick Blues Dylan vocal stylings. The front-runner is obvious though. "All I Wanna Do" was everywhere when it first came out, and deservedly so. Perfect melody, instrumentation, and lyrics. Songs like this only come along every so often, and when they do they usually become victims of being overplayed to bajaysus. But for some reason, this is one of the few songs that doesn't end up getting on your nerves after the millionth listen. It also wins the prestigious award for being a song with prominent pedal steel guitar that somehow doesn't get on my nerves. For how enjoyable the music is here, I do still find myself questioning why it won so many Grammys, or why it's held in such high regard. These are really solid songs, very easy to listen to, consistently good, but nothing here feels particularly bold or innovative. I enjoyed listening to this, and I'd happily return to it. Not ground-breaking, but very easy to like.

Lower marks from me because the non-singles are barely listenable.

Didn’t realize, “All I Wanna Do” was almost entirely lifted from a poem. Still rating this as a 3 bc I like her voice and (other) lyrics. Generally, she kicks ass.

It's fine? Sheryl Crow is too, this is a little sedate for my taste but it's good beach/road trip music I guess. All I Wanna do remains a bop.

A few flashes of brilliance, and if the goal was getting plenty of radio play then it totally succeeded at that. But when it isn't hitting its highs, it's just ho-hum run of the mill music.

I'm struck by how much of a stylistic hodgepodge this is. Not at all uncommon with debut albums where the artist is still finding their footing, but it doesn't make it any less jarring. There are some interesting ideas, even if it doesn't all work for me. Run, Baby, Run was a surprising bit of blues-based rock a la Bonnie Raitt. Solidify is a surprising bit of funk with some cool drumming. The drummer is seriously going off on this one. The Na-Na Song is her version of We Didn't Start the Fire. We Do What We Can is a ballad with a trip-hop feel to it before it opens up to a dramatic, piano-driven bridge. The trouble is the rest is mostly easy listening singer-songwriter pop. I find that mode to be a bit boring although All I Wanna Do is catchy as hell.

I don't have much to say about it. Singing is good, but music is samey. Tolerable

Liked it. Good album. Not a masterpiece by any stretch. But good.

i like it. not a 5 star. not a classic. but a good singer / songwriter pop album. i enjoyed it sufficiently. some of her better songs are on here

Not my cup of tea but some good songs.
