Yeah, it's fine. I was just never a huge fan.
Debut album, ok singer/songwriter affair
Greta debut album. Saw her play this whole album opening for Blues Traveler at the Boathouse in October 1994. Good times. 3.5
This is her best effort - good album, I liked it when it came out but it's better now : )
I actually had never listened to this album from start to finish and it is really enjoyable and highly listenable. I have a newfound appreciation for Sheryl Crow.
It's been a while, but I instantly reconnected with her soulful voice. It's a good album, and there are a couple of standouts.
Many of these long unheard songs sound pretty good after going a long time unheard. And the never heard songs would have been better left that way.
I mean a heartbroken woman and a guitar, name a more iconic duo.
Lots to love about this actually! Run, Baby, Run reminds me of something that you’d see on These Days by Bon Jovi! Cool vibes :)
Really liked the first song “Run, Baby, Run”, but then it went downhill for me. “All I Wanna Do” is a good song but I’m so tired of it and never care to hear it again. Didn’t hate this album but many songs are boring.
Pop meets Lucinda Williams here, and it’s doesn’t really miss. Hit after hit charges at you while she endears herself to the listener with fun and relatable lyrics. The subterranean homesick blues-inspired “The Na-Na Song” is the fun middle child of the album.
I genuinely sighed when this album showed up, for two reasons. One, I only know sheryl crow as the woman that makes music for middle aged mothers that think being a shitty person is a personality trait because they're from the deep south... And two, I just finished listening to ...And Justice For all by metallica so I knew it was gonna be a bit of a culture shock. Like being given a glass of milk after skulling five shots of fireball. Now the opener surprised me, Run, Baby, Run blew all my expectations out of the water. Fantastic production, and that hook on the chorus just elevates me. But pretty quickly, my expectations turned out to be true but not quite for the reasons I thought. Leaving Las Vegas is alright, but it sounds nothing like the first song. It takes a bit more a triphop route. Then Strong Enough throws us into a more acoustic low-key type of energy. Then Cant Cry anymore gives us this half assed pop country song. So at this point I'm starting to see a pattern, or lack there of. These are fine songs on their own. As an album, this feels like multiple sets of studio sessions with no beat or connection from any song to the next. And again, this album is completely fine! It's listenable, it's walmart store music, but I just don't understand why this album would be considered great in any sense. Lyrically middling.
Very 90's pop, but I still like some of the songs.
When I saw this on the list, I figured it would be "all I wanna do" and a bunch of filler. I completely forgot the other singles of this album that got radio play, "leaving Las Vegas", "can't cry anymore", and "strong enough". Solid music for a debut album. A bit rock, a bit country, with some blues thrown in. It was a pretty good album
Pretty good, but a little to pop for my tastes.
Strong Enough All I Wanna Do I Shall Believe
It was impossible to escape this album in the 90's. Sheryl along with Shania Twain ruled the pop country rock genre. That being said it's just not my music, but it's good for what it is.
I remember liking this a lot more when it came out. It’s aged into being a standard adult contempo record. It’s good, just not special.
A mixed bag. Some of the singles hold up.
Not a bad album at all. Some of the songs get a bit repetitive. Perfectly fine for a car ride.
The songs that pop *really* pop. The songs that don't *really* don't. Some genuinely great tunes in here, though.
She listened to a lot of Anthony Kiedis before writing the Na-Na Song. The funky Solidify should be a non-sequitur here but still works. Her almost laconic delivery of seemingly stream of conciousness lyrics carries the weaker songs. Ultimately more a jack of all trades than master of one, in the sense that nothing is extraordinary, but comes together as geater than sum of its parts.
Et puis il y a eu "All I Wanna Do". "All I wanna do is have some fun".
3-4
2.5
Competent is how I would describe this. It's completely middle of the road and inoffensive. It's just there. And that's completely fine.
Rocky songwriting from 1993.
A fun poppy lil album.
Mom and elementary school music for me. Not really my thing
It's an album I know so well that really showed up a lot in my freshman year of college. So much still to love here. She inspired me and raised me up, and to this day, I still sometimes listen to certain songs on this album. It's a good one.
"All I Wanna Do" and "Strong Enough" made this album absolutely huge. And it's clear why - they are some of the most radio-friendly broadly appealing songs I can think of. But they are vanilla pop rock, and even the catchiest pop rock radio hits of all time only go so far.
It got an extra star for nostalgia because my friend used to put this on in her car all. The. Time. Strong Enough is solid and the song about an alcoholic sitting around drinking with strangers all day was different and fun despite it actually being quite sad. But I don’t like listening to people I can sing better than and listening to her wail leaving Las Vegas makes me want to twist a knife in my ear holes.
I really like No One Said It Would Be Easy a lot. Low key best song on the album. I wish there were more songs of that quality.
Gritty but gorgeous lyrical prowess by Crow
I respect the hell out of Sheryl Crow, but most of this album affected me like a fugue state. The disco-pastiche of "Solidify" stirred me from my waking slumber because I couldn't believe how much it didn't work. "The Na-Na Song" also shouldn't work, but I was charmed by it despite myself. Why this Crow album? Just say you wanted us to hear "Strong Enough" and go. I liked my highlights too much to give this less than three stars, but I don't expect to revisit this album again. Highlights: Strong Enough (an all-timer), The Na-Na Song, No One Said It Would Be Easy, I Shall Believe
Some great songs but had to skip a couple.
This was a good chill album. Liked it when it came out.
It turns out that I know a few Sheryl Crow songs. I wouldn’t have been able to name any just off her name before, but Run Baby Run and All I Wanna Do stand out as the better tracks here. This is pretty easy listening pop rock with a dash of country thrown in for good measure. Country can often be a little abrasive to me, but this didn’t overdo it. Overall, this was pleasant. It wasn’t mind blowing, but I had a nice time listening to it.
Has some good songs. “Leaving Las Vegas” is her best song. Kind of loses steam towards the end. Overall was enjoyable. 3/5 Might listen to a couple songs again.
2.5/5. Meh, not unenjoyable, but not very memorable.
Catchy story telling pop rock. Interestingly wide songwriting credits, so perhaps more of a band effort and less autobiographical than it would seem. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: All I Wanna Do Date listened: 10/06/24
Some funky tracks, 1/2 even stand out. Low 3.
Enjoyable. I like the variety but that's also a weakness. This album has a scattershot approach with two or three songs feeling out of place. My favorites being the mellower cuts.
Nice to hear this again; I listened to it quite a bit when it was first out. I never found it a terribly exciting album; it was more just something easy to stick on in the car. (I seem to remember that boyf - now husband - and I were into anything that made us think about driving across the vast expanse of the USA, because we really liked Thelma and Louise, and this fitted that vibe.) It turns out I've forgotten quite a few of the songs, oops. Positives: I love her voice, and the songs are decent. She's actually released a couple of singles that I love, but neither of them is on this album. A solid 6 out of 10.
Enjoyed it as background, probably need to listen again and quite a few tracks will bear repeated listening, I reckon. But is it a classic? Probably not.
Not her best album. Enjoyed listening to it.
honestly not bad, better than expected. Do i want to listen to it everyday? nah. Would i bash my brains out if it was stuck in my CD player? definitely. But there's only a select handful of albums that wouldnt elicit that response. Id give it 3.5 stars if i could but dont quite feel like it deserves 4 so 3 it is
I always really felt the lyrics of the songs, but it never really felt like she believed what she was singing. It's one of those albums that had hit after hit on the radio at a certain point, then it was gone.
Ya know not bad tbh. I hope a Sheryl Crow fan group is called a murder
It's alright but not for me.
I like Sheryl Crow songs. The vibe of the full album is not for me, but most of the songs have individual appeal. For me, hearing them periodically on my wife's satellite radio in her car is enough.
Cant let gang know i fw this
It starts really strong, definitely the first 3 tracks are automatically a win, however, nearly all the rest is filler. All gentle pleasant pop, with an occasional jazzy adult contemporary vibe, but unfortunately it all pretty much blends together.
it opens with a country banger, but after that, there's a mix of genres and influences I wasn't really expecting. I only enjoyed a few songs really.
While many people expect this to be full of pop rock radio anthems, there's a deeper blues side that is intriguing. Still didn't land with me, but it's worth a listen.
Good.
A good mix of pop, rock and smooth jazz - just a like a beer buzz in the morning. Sheryl Crow seems to lack any strength to her vocals.
Tuesday Night Music Club is actually Sheryl Crow's, "second album" as her debut was rejected by the music label. I have a bootleg copy of that recording and it's terrible, it has a horrible over-produced glossy sound and the songs ring hollow and uninspired. It's amazing what better production, better songs and a make-over image can do, as TNMC presents Crow is a fun loving, casual fashioned, blues-rock artist. The songs are an improvement and with the "hit", All I Wanna Do sets the blueprint for the course of Crow's career. Listening now, it's still OK, but the rest of the album isn't as good as I remember. Most of the record is quite middle-of-the-road sounding and doesn't feel as authentic as we are led to feel. There is still a lot of filler (as most of her albums are) and I must admit I've been lukewarm to her music since, with the odd interesting song, but it's just too mainstream and commercial sounding to care.
I really liked the first and last songs, bit other than that, this album was pretty meh
This is serviceable, but doesn't fully connect. A little too rootsy for much of its running, needs a little more energy or maybe a little more grit. It's clear Sheryl Crow showed up on the scene as a fully formed songwriter, her talents there evident, however I think her vocal performances would get stronger with subsequent releases. I don't know, I guess I wish this was either more songs like "All I Wanna Do" that have a little boogie in them, or that this went like full country and actually rocked a little bit. Promising debut, properly rated.
Good album! Only knew one song. Not interesting /good enough for me to be on this list but enjoyed listening to it.
Pretty good
One killer song, the bit hit, for for the rest: nothing wrong with album, but also nothing special. Guess just too Middle of the Road American music for me.
I have no complaints about this album. A couple songs stood out I remember hearing a million times on the radio.
Sheryl Crow is one of those musicians that I never understood the massive following for. Is her music bad? No. But it does all sound meh.
If the algorithm can sort out a Christmas album for Christmas day, how come it can't manage to put this on a Tuesday? Anyway. This was... okay, occasionally decent, but consistently unchallenging. At its best when poppy. 2.5 🌟
solid pop album
It's OK.
Me han gustado: Leaving Las Vegas, Can't cry anymore y All I wanna do.
Not bad but nothing super interesting about it. Songwriting is pretty underwhelming. You can tell it’s all pro players but feels pretty uninspired and not an ounce of edge or darkness.
Heaps of potential but feels like it's been too tightly squeezed and commercialised
I preferred the album which came after this but it was an easy listen.
Best Song: All I Wanna Do. The sheer dorkiness of the storytelling on display here is nothing if not endearing. And the chorus is nice and catchy too. Worst Song: The Na-Na Song. It felt like she was going for something quirky here, and honestly just never quite reached it. Overall: A pleasant collection. I particularly liked the two stripped down tracks that close out the album. Quiet and contemplative without being melancholy. Springtime music.
I used to have her second album which I much prefer but there was some really interesting sounds on here. Some of the production sounds like those Ibiza trance chillout albums. Some crap like the The Na-Na Song but All I Wanna Do and a few others are good listens
Pop, RnB, 1993 -> 3
This album was a great mix of rock, pop, country, and funk. I was familiar with a couple of songs but haven’t listed to Sheryl Crow beyond what I’ve absorbed through radio. The music itself was well produced and well arranged. I found Crow’s voice a bit uneven throughout though I still enjoyed the album.
- a lot more slower songs than I expected but still good - some classics on here - Sheryl Crow brings great vibes
4 Love sheryl crow But this aint too good 3
This whole album is fine. Very much of the time in its attempt to be hip, which has obviously aged in the past 30 years. The single Strong Enough sits well with the other songs, but the clear winner is the breakout single. It's cliche to say but in this case it really does dwarf the rest of the album.
Some solid songs but they only make up half the album. The other half was forgettable.
I had this cd when I was younger but don’t remember a lot of these songs now. They all seemed really genuine. There were lots of different styles too which were cool. Decent album.
Ok - wouldn’t buy the album
Good
This ain't no disco, its Sheryl Crow... She's very hit or miss, but when she hits its amazing and there's a few tracks on this album that vibe just right. I'd argue the first 4 tracks are ("Run Baby Run", "Leaving Las Vegas", "Strong Enough" and "Can't Cry Anymore") amongst the strongest start to an album at any time, add in the ubiquitous "All I Wanna Do" and that's pretty much half the album accounted for. So basically the singles bopped, the rest is ok but don't quite rise to the same level. Solid middle 3 star album, a good way to pass 50 or so minutes.
C’était correct
This is an excellent album which, in my opinion, mostly highlights just making music very well. It is like finding a really well-written sonnet that hits the spot within its genre. Nothing groundbreaking going on--no experimentation or pushing of limits. Just solid song-writing, playing, and creation of an album.
Zwei gute Lieder, der Rest ist Durchschnitt
Yep Iv give it to Sheryl this is a catch 90’s rock album, deserves to be listened to before you die. Not one I’ll be adding to my frequent rotation though.
Mid. Nice groove on Solidify.
Couple hits but otherwise just okay.
I was thinking the album was better than I remembered, pretty good really, until spotify moved on to playing me some female driven songs that are genuinely great. So I'm going to stick to "pretty good".
Muito melhor do que eu esperava!
Way better than anticipated
3/5 good but not enough
It was fine, just not really my thing. Nothing really stood out to me as bad or really won me over though
Sheryl blends a good mix of genres into pop songs
BORING
B: I really thought this would be better. E: I'm kinda "meh" on Sheryl Crow, she's got some good tunes, but there's something about her I just don't really like.
Moments of annoyance, moments of not being annoyed. All in all, it’s fine? I guess?
Over-produced 90s pop rock, if that’s your thing…
High three, but not quite a four. There’s a lot of variety in this album, and Crow’s voice is very nice, but the quality between songs can rise and fall a fair bit. Overall pretty good on average.
Cars song lady.
Not bad. Easy listening. I give it 3 stars.
I remembered liking this more. Looking back, it’s a few good songs and a good sound, though the drums sound very dated to me.
Has some good songs but has a lot of boring filler. Sheryl Crow is a very serviceable singer but doesn't have a blow you away type of skill. The best parts of this album are when it ditches the poppier elements in favour of the more blues, country and occasional jazzy parts.
As a kid I used to hate All I Wanna Do bc I thought it was just rambling. I have since become enlightened. There are some good songs on here but a bunch of them didn’t make too big of an impression on me. She really had her Joker Moment on Leaving Las Vegas and by that I of course mean the song sounds like Joker by Steve Miller Band but it totally works
More mom's Toyota Corolla core eh dom? This album had some great moments, like that Las Vegas song, but it just wasn't consistent throughout. I'd give it another chance some time and also fw Sheryl Crow so maybe I'll check out her other stuff
The highs were so god damn high. But unfortunately the lows were essential negative. I’m happy giving it a 3. Sheryl definitely rips when she wants to
Some really nice songs and some others trapped in a 90s time warp but overall not bad.
2.5/5
6/10. Before listening to this album, I wouldn't have thought Cheryl Crow could pull off these bleaker songs, or complex feminist lyricism. After listening to this album, I'd still say this style isn't her strong suit, but it's not bad either.
Generally fine. 6/10
Very nice, Sheryl Crow is great, very talented. The hits are hitting! There is some filler in there though in my opinion, if there was more history, nostalgia or connection there for me I'm sure I would have a stronger feeling about this. I could definitely connect more with this album but it's not happening today. I feel quite neutral, I like it.
I liked this a lot more than I expected to. Some great fun tunes on there and lots of variation too.
I did sleep on this record when it first came up. I'm well aware of Sheryl and have never been a fan. This album was pretty good. Never head Leaving Las Vegas before and I really like that song.
the vibes were definitely there, they just aren’t the vibes for a cold december night. i’d enjoy the fuck out of this album at the beach in the summer though
Wasn't a bad album, kind of relaxed, no real duds, but nothing that jumped off the page for me. By the end of each song I was a little bored of it. Wasn't expecting the Aldous Huxley shout out
Expected to like this more… the songs were kind of repetitive and too long and just not enough singing to fill the song. I feel like the instrumental for no one said it would be easy sounds like something I would like but the song is just boring and not flowy. Feel like I just don’t like her style of song and she has some collabs I like better than the stuff on her albums
Some bangers some annoying
5/10 - I didn't hate the vibe and I liked the first song a little bit. Overall it was somewhat boring and the Na-Na song was strange to read the lyrics.
Aight 5.5/10
Maybe the most impossible album for me to review so far. At times a 5, at other times a 2 with obvious radio appeal forced into tracks like 'All I Wanna Do'. Ultimately, it's not an album that I think I'll ever revisit.
Really not my thing, the first song was nice though
Country? Okey had a long time to listen to that genre
I was 22 when this album came out and, even at the time, the songs just felt a little long in the tooth for me. You know, like it wouldn’t be long before they were in the regular rotation at your local grocery store. But you know, to be fair, this is a solid debut album by Sheryl Crow. It’s earthy and bluesy, in the same neighborhood as something you might hear from Lucinda Williams or Bonnie Raitt. But Crow’s softer vocal style really could have used a little grit and she would have had a more substantial sound. I suspect the songs sound better when she sings them now. Crow's vocals are always earnest though, with relatable lyrics. There's a reason you heard these songs everywhere for a good chunk of the 90s. The middle part of the album gets little soft and some of those songs aren't particularly memorable. But the hits are pretty catchy and easy on the ears. I have heard \"All I Wanna Do\" way too many times in my life, but it’s hooky and pretty fun. Sometimes that's all you need in an album. Fave Songs: Leaving Las Vegas, Strong Enough, We Do What We Can, Can't Cry Anymore, All I Wanna Do
Good, has the hits. I need to listen more
I've never listened to a full Sheryl Crow album. I've always found her singing fine, but the hits are so overplayed that it gets annoying. I do love her Bond theme song from Tomorrow Never Dies but I love those songs in general. This album was fine but I probably won't listen again.
The first song and last 3 were nice but the middle wasn't very memorable. All I Wanna Do is a bop and extremely catchy. Stand-out: All I Wanna Do
Classic 90s album
oh the 90s I didn't love this but it did remind me of simpler days in my youth.
More enjoyable than expected! Not half bad.
3.5 perfect album for a road trip
Favoritas: Leaving Las Vegas
What Taylor Swift would sound like if Taylor Swift was talented
Auffallend viele Stilwechsel.
Never been a huge fan of Sheryl Crow but she's not painful to listen to.
Wanders through genre influences from jazz to country to pop. Realized I wasn't a huge fan or her kinda nasally voice on this album
Starts off strong, weak second half despite All I Wanna Do. The best songs are fantastic, but overall is just ok.
A bit too MOR for me but she's a great singer and a solid songwriter
There was a couple of good songs. I just want to have fun is catchy. But the rest didn't really get me going.
Good for background but not really my style.
mostly checked out from this one, some parts are cool but i could live. could do a lot worse though
Probably the definition of a 3/5 album, do like her voice and tune progression but it just doesn't stand out a huge amount. 3.3
Its fine. I dont love it, but its OK. 3/5
California Rock. The first half of the album is way better than the second. I especially like Run, Baby, Run. The obvious hit All I Wanna Do is overplayed by now. The rest is just OK. 3/5
eh, it's country rock but her voice is nice. Na-Na Song was sung with a real Beck-type delivery, but I like Beck's production a lot more
All I wanna do is have some fun. Decent pop. Nothing spectacular.
3.75
What an enjoyable intro. Nice compositions and of course her voice and singing style are nice to listen to.
This is Sweet Baby James, just the 90's female version.
The best thing about albums pre-streaming days was that you could discover more of the artist. I think that's what I like about this website too as while this album has some very well known songs it was nice to hear some of the funner stuff like The Na-Na Song.
Fun, cool and really well produced.
Very good album, glad to see Sheryl on here in some capacity, I know she has a couple famous albums. This one has Strong Enough and All I Wanna Do which were easy adds. Most of the rest I hadn't heard before but they were good to listen to. She has a good voice and great lyrics too.
Aight
Sounds like the 90's
Moments made me really happy and settled and optimistic. That is powerful.
Fun enough
I’ve a soft spot for Sheryl Crow- she’s written some terrific pop rock tracks with a county flavour over the years and the singles here are catchy with singalong hooks. This album is a little dull in parts and it probably hasn’t quite earned its place on this list but hey I have a soft spot for Sheryl Crow.
OK - but a fairly standard album to me.
Country pop
It's alright, fee bops here and there.
ah, another decent-but-not-memorable 1001-list album that doesn't hold any nostalgia for me so I may not fully appreciate all it has to offer. i knew All I Wanna Do going into this and that's definitely the highlight of the album. lot of snoozefest filler here in my opinion. favorites: all I wanna do, no one said it would be easy
Full of good tracks. Great? Nah… but, a good listen. 3.5/5
I feel bad, this suffers as I had Alanis the day before. It's a bit rootsy and country for my tastes, bur Run Baby Run is gorgeous, and All I Wanna Do was a smash, even if I find it a tiny bit smug. It falls in the middle for me. I didn't dislike it, but it won't be the next record I buy.
Sounded okay. Clearly influenced by Lucinda Williams, but the songs are much less interesting.
Some good songs. Could have been more variety.
Sheryl crow has made some fun songs over her career. I thought this album was going to be more upbeat but it had a lot of slower melancholy songs. All I wanna do is the big hit here and it’s still good today. I’d say her album overall was lacking from my expectations. It wasn’t bad I just never listened to a full album of hers and this was just alright. Some decent options to come back to but nothing splendid. 6.2/10
This was fine, frankly I though most of it had a pretty bland sound and the lyrics mostly standard Country Girl fare with a little intellectual embellishment. Only a couple songs really stood out to me.
Obviously, I was aware of All I wanna do is have some fun, but I never attributed much to it other than being a rather catchy song. I was thus taken by surprise by this album, which packs more quality than I expected. Will I ever go back to this album again? Probably not.
Better than expected. Some good sounds here.
Very meats and potatoes in my opinion. All I Wanna Do is very good, but otherwise nothing that really stood out. It wasn't that bad either though, just not particularly interesting. Actually not sure why this is on the list, maybe it was revolutionary when it came or something. Feels like another contemporary-ish pop/rock/country album.
i will never play this again but it’s better than i expected and it makes me yearn for the world of the 1990s, the world we threw away
She's like the Julia Roberts of music. There's nothing about it that's bad, but it just somehow feels like it's for single women in their mid-thirties on an early 90's sitcom.
Sheryl Crow has always been fine to listen to but not something I’d seek out First listen to one of her albums didn’t really change that but do like Run Baby Run and All I Wanna Do (which is a 5⭐️ song)
i don’t like her voice, she sounds like a backup singer for herself. but then there’s a point in the album where that j goes away, and then it’s good music
Classic 90s pop
It's not really my thing. I don't particularly dig it, but it's nice enough.
Passable album, that was semi enjoyable at most. She has a good band in the back though, and the inclusion of Kevin Gilbert is an interesting discovery! 6 out of 10
Better than I thought but that’s a low bar.
The singles off of this album were being played in every public building in the mid-90s. Decent listen even if it's not my thing.
Because I have the time, I'll do another track-by-track review: 1. Run, Baby, Run: pretty generic radio blues rock. OK vocal. Nothing else of note. 2. Leaving Las Vegas: Painfully 90s production but the song is good. 3. Strong Enough: The track is sweet but I get "Midnight Train to Georgia" vibes which bums me out. 4. Can't Cry Anymore: This one feels really manufactured for the Adult Contemporary radio format. 5. Solidify: 😐 what 6. The Na-Na Song: OK side two is taking on a totally different flavor. I can't say I hate this one actually. 7. No One Said It Would Be Easy: my favorite number so far - despite my trashing of those two Eagles records I had last week. 8. What I Can Do for You: Kind of a pulled punch when Courtney Love and Alanis Morrisette were making angrier and better songs at the same time. The vocal refrain is bad. 9. All I Wanna Do: This is the big one. This song was everywhere back then. For good reason, too. The lyric and vocal performance are 5/5. The track really does sound like that one Stealers Wheel jam from Reservoir Dogs though! 10. We Do What We Can: the muted trumpet sounds cool? idk I'm kind of getting tired already. 11. I Shall Believe: Another adult contemporary one.
Quite nice
Debuutalbum van Sheryl Crow, met doorbraak nummer "All I Wanna Do".
She seems talented and some interesting stuff musically but her voice is not for me.
Fine background. Very sound of the 90s
No standouts for me. Pleasant enough but forgettable
Un dels debuts dels '90 per autonomàsia. 'All I Wanna Know' i 'Run, Baby, Run' són dos dels grans temes de la primera part de la década. La resta connecta amb l'esperit de creació del disc: llibertat de moviments, inspiració i la xispa d'un grup d'amics reunint-se cada dimarts per fer música i passar-s'ho bé
Listening to this transported me back to the 90s when all my problems seemed to be internal, rather than external. It's all over the place in that eclectic 90s, try everything and see what sticks, kind of way. Had only listened to her singles before, never a full album, so there were a lot of surprises for me.
It's competent and Sheryl Crow is a good performer/singer but it just in general doesn't speak to me much. I can see lots of folks into it though. This is quintessential 90s alternative for sure.
There were some good songs on this album.
Not a huge fan of this album. It's just ok.
This album is decent but in general isn’t my usual type of music. All I Wanna Do is a jam. I can respect her as an artist and believe she was very influential. I am happy to have listened to this album but I probably won’t revisit it.
All I wanna do is such a bop
"Tuesday Night Music Club" is the debut album by American singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, although she did have a prior unreleased album. The album title comes from an ad hoc group of musicians who came together on Tuesday to work on the album and many of those people have song writing credits. As probably predicted after the success of the album many of these relationships unfortunately became acrimonious. The music is classified as pop, rick and blues. OK. The album took awhile to take off commercially which happened after the release of the fourth single "All I Want to Do." It reached #3 in the US and #8 in the UK. The first song and single "Run Baby Run" has piano and a slow guitar start which sounds directly off The Beatles' "White Album." Nice vocal chorus. It builds drama. Maybe my favorite song on the album. Semi-autobiographical about being born in the 1960's to hippie parents in a conservative time and running away from everything and everyone. Percussion, haunting keys and then an acoustic guitar begin "Leaving Las Vegas," the first song I remember from her. I always liked her strained and wobbly vocals. I would guess about getting away from the messes in your life. An acoustic guitar, bass and a simple love song in the fifth single "Strong Enough." An electric guitar riff opens the sixth and final single "Can't Cry Anymore." A pop stomping beat. Nice backing vocals. The Chicago Trribune compared this song to The Stones' "Honkey Tonk Woman." Hmmm, I'll have think about that. The second single "What Can I Do For You" has more of a drum beat, soft keys and a bluesy guitar. Sheryl almost whispers then shouts. A personal song about sexual harassment. "Hey, this ain't no disco" with the disco guitar kicks off "All I Want to Do." The songs lays into an easy pop groove and she sings about drinking beer in the morning, flicking matches into ashtrays and going to car washes. What if we had no point in life. Hey, what's wrong with doing what's she doing? Sounds like fun to me. The album ends with soulful "I Shall Believe." A hopeful song more in the R&B/pop category. I actually never had listened to album from start to finish but had heard most of these songs. The lyrics are strong some autobiographical, some stories. The songs are solid musically with elements of blues, country, pop, soul and rock. Back in the day I really had no interest in this album partly cause it was all over the place; today it sounded good.
Why do I keep getting these late 90s easy listening albums? Anyway, out of the last few of those I have gotten this is definitely the best. While some of them are not my cup of tea, I was definitely sold on this album by the end. "Strong Enough" and "No One Said It Would Be Easy" (great Mazzy Star/early Radiohead energy on this one) are great, but it also has its share of snoozers such as "The Na-Na Song". Great, heartfelt songwriting at its best, acceptable background music at its worst.
Pleasant enough, mostly middle of the road songs. Strong Enough and All I Wanna Do are good. I liked the backstory of the album and title, sounded fun.
kinda cool blues rock album standing out for sure
I didn't hate it like I thought I would. I wasn't really enthralled with it either. I remember hearing those huge hit singles on the radio all the time as a kid. All I Wanna Do is an interesting song but the chorus is ANNOYING. The other ones are better even if Leaving Las Vegas goes on a bit too long. A 2.5 bumped to a 3 because I have been singing "Are you drunk enough to eat this ham?" as parody for years, and that's gotta be worth something.
Surprisingly easy to listen to, might give it a second listen but the middle of the album was forgettable
All I Wanna Do is a great track, half decent album but not something I'll listen to again
Pretty good for what it is and definitely takes me back to a specific time in 90's history, but just not my style.
Estuvo bueno
I wanted to like this more than I did, as I believe she's generally underrated as a singer/songwriter. However, some of the deeper cuts on this album were aggressively bad (most notably The Na-Na Song). Best track: All I Wanna Do
Some good road-trip tunes
Sheryl Crow is pretty good. 3/5
Didn’t enjoy this as much as I thought I might. Maybe I needed another go around, but no time today - and not enough of interest to draw me back later.
I’d not heard this cd before. I own a greatest hits cd which contains 5 of these 11 songs - I think all 5 were singles & I liked them at the time, without feeling rapturous about Crow. But I found some stuff I quite liked among the other 6 tracks. I really liked the latin feel of Solidify. I loved the wacky Na Na Song (which sounds like a demented Subterranean Homesick Blues). The bass in No One Said It Would Be Easy is totally reminiscent of the Twin Peaks soundtrack, from around the same time. And she could be channeling Dian Kraal on the very jazzy We Do What We Can. Some of the stuff here is straight out of the Seventies Singer- Songwriter text-book. But she generally does okay with it.
I was going to say that I have mixed feelings about this album, but really the problem is that I don't have many feelings at all. Her voice is pleasant enough, with enough character that it isn't just bland. The songwriting is pretty highly skilled, without being overly flashy. Similarly, the band are really great players, and really well recorded. The sounds are more organic (real drums, prominent guitars, organ, piano, minimal synths and samples and no obvious protools edits) than much material recorded in the early 90s,. This means it hasn't dated quiet as much as, say, Alanis Morrisset or other contemporaneous pop music You can tell the songs and arrangements were work-shopped for a long time. the band is really comfortable with the material. It's laid back, but without losing focus. The collective writing and playing make this a pretty strong album, and it has a point of view (at least by way of contrast with most pop albums), But does it really have much to say? Success has many fathers, as they say, and there were public recriminations over who got appropriate credit when this came out. I suspect that few of the collaborators expected the album to do much, and were pretty pissed off when a woman got "all the credit" when it sold a bajillion copies. Ms Crow's ongoing success proves, I think, that she was not a mere puppet of this group. But this album is OK, but doesn't move me particularly. Certainly, there is nothing about it that I hate, but it inspires nothing stronger than a mild "like". Excerpt "All I wanna do"; that still feels liek a breathe of fresh air. I really like her conversational lyrics and flow, which feels a bit new. I have a jukebox 7" of "All I Wanna Do" b/w "If it makes you happy" which is probably the sum total of all the Sheryl Crow I will ever want or need. I really feel like this is a solid 2.5 stars, but I am going to tip over to 3 stars, based on the shit she copped from her collaborators, probably undeserved.
Better than I feared
Songs you know by heart.
Liked this one more than I thought I would! “All I Wanna Do” still sounds as fresh as it did in the 90’s and “Run, Baby, Run” makes me wanna sing in front of the mirror, but the 2nd half of the album loses steam and didn’t leave me with a super memorable impression. Not a fan of her ballads and I hope I never have to listen to “The Na Na Song” ever again.
Decent music. The last two songs were especially strong
Helt bra, solid 3
Much more laid back and mellow than I was expecting having heard the singles. Pleasant enough.
Decent, middle of the road tunes, well executed, but lacking in much that’s exquisite or particularly memorable. The whole thing is fine, just fine.
3.4/5 ok background folk music
Got some stuff ill revisit. Solid.
I really liked the direction this album headed in as it progressed, I really like it, and I'd be curious if I would love it upon repeat listens. 3.5/5
Sheryl Crow has a fine voice, but the lyrics and song structure here don’t always match it. The popular singles are the definite highlights.
All of the radio hits on this record sound so much different than I remember them sounding when they were hits. The rest of the context of the record makes them all a lot more enjoyable. Definitely talented and a good record, just not really for me.
I was skeptical going into it, as it has all the genres keywords I'm not usually a fan of. But I ended up kinda enjoying it more than I thought
There are a few nice songs and she has the country singer’s raspiness that makes songs like “Leaving Las Vegas” work.
Fav tracks: Do what we can, All I wanna know, solidify. Deserves a 3
3 At the start of this I really was not enjoying myself, but around the third song in I started to buy into the sound. I don’t think it has much of an identity of its own though, bouncing around from Country to RnB to Pop and Jazz. I didn’t particularly care for a lot of the lyrics but for as many lyrics that I didn’t like there were just as many that I did. While I don’t see myself rushing out to listen again, I do think some of these songs will be refreshing when I’m in the mood for something different. Favorites: Strong Enough, Solidify, No One Said It Would Be Easy, All I Wanna Do, We Do What We Can, I Shall Believe
I expected to score this higher than I did. Crow really is an exceptional writer. The lyrics on this album show a depth and maturity that I just never expect from a debut album. It helps, I think, that Crow was 31 when she released this. She'd had enough real life experiences that these themes ring true. The main problem here is that the album just didn't age well. While Crow herself is stellar, most of the backing tracks are kind of ugly. Most of the album feels weirdly synthetic. But not in a slick, overproduced way. More of a rough, cheap plastic way. The drums on "Leaving Las Vegas" are particularly offensive which is a shame because it's such a good track otherwise.
Solid
Slow jazzy groves mixed with some uptempo songs. Overall pretty easy listen.
I am familiar with Sheryl Crow and I was familiar with a couple of songs. I do not ever say "I need to listen to Sheryl Crow." The album was relatively short which is good and I did not feel the need to skip any songs. Overall it is just kinda of meh. It is less than a 3 but more than a 2. I will round up.
This is pop as usual. Nothing much really. I like "No one said it would be easy" though.
couple classics
It was alright. I expected more.
Really enjoyed the album 3*
Really enjoyed the first few songs and thought we may be on course for an unexpected four stars. The quality dropped off quite a bit so I think a three is probably fair ...
When the songs from Tuesday Night Music Club were on the radio, I was trying to decide if I like Sheryl Crow or not. Four of the eleven tracks from this album are familiar, but I'm pretty sure I've listened to the whole album at least once as I tried to figure out if I like Crow or not. I listened again, and I'm still not convinced. Crow is talented, but the music doesn't call out for attention from me. The singles from this album (excluding "Run Baby Run") got a slightly higher rating. I did not like "The Na-Na Song". The album as a whole lands squarely on 3 stars. Meh.
Cultura general
Dece 4
Not a great album, not bad but by any means, but 'All I Wanna Do' was one of the songs all over the radio when I was living in America in the 90's and is tied really strongly to good childhood memories so a definite nostalgia bump
Better music than what I associate Sheryl Crow with, but you can definitely see how she'll morph further into cheesy 'heartland rock' type stuff. It's a 3.5 for me, maybe even 3.75 but I can't quite bring myself to give a 4.
It wasn't bad, but it has some weak points. And I can't stand the na-na song or whatever it's called.
Has some nice songs but nothing stood out 5/10
Surprisingly good album. Many many influences that made the album more exciting. (6/10) FT: Run, Baby, Run, No One Said It Would Be Easy, I Shall Believe
I enjoyed it in a pop country-rock sort of way. But for me, it's only a 3 star
Mischung aus Pop, Folk, Rock. Eingängig aber langweilig. Würde am liebsten 2.5 geben. Ich bin gnädig und gebe mal 3.
Mediocre but not as terrible as I feared it would be. I'd give it a 2.5 but 3/5 is close enough.
Classic
A soulful and playful album, the only issues I found with it were the occasional edge Crow puts on her vocals and sameness throughout the album.
she has a good voice! her music was a little too slow and mellow for me but it was pretty.
Tuesday Night Music Club has a very familiar sound and voice where it takes you back to an earlier time. Although most of the songs on the album don't really live up to "All I Wanna Do", overall it's an ok listen. Best: All I Wanna Do Worst: No One Said It Would Be Easy
Better than expected, I think. I slept on Sheryl Crow when she was super popular but this album did change my mind on it.
Yeah. Ok.
Someone had this when I was a child, I'm guessing a cousin, but I would have to ask, I remember hearing it from start to finish and actually enjoying it. I preffer this loud clear mixing than the lame all at the same volume from the 80's. I really like "all I wanna do"
After the first song it is a rapid decline into retail monotony
Some fun
Not for me...
Good listen, not my thing
Delightful little debut album for Cheryl Crow.
Very listenable, some nice songs, instantly forgettable.
Very sad country-pop album I think
not a fan of this type of music in general but such a good throwback nonetheless. the songs are too long tho 6/10
Meh
Couple bangers, couple decent songs. Rest is trash.
Good singer, good voice. Very country
She has a nice voice that I like the sound off. It's a good mix of Ballards and pop songs. Enjoyable listen.
Same with Sheryl as some others, not really listened to her. Let's give it a go. "Run, Baby, Run" odd start for an album to me. This seems more like a mid-album song. I can tell this is a 90s album. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Ahhhh I know "All I Wanna Do." Again, it was alright. Probably give a 3 star.
It´s not good bu I like it
Never been much of a fan. It's okay I guess. I knew some songs. Rest just kind of in the background.
Favourite Songs: Run, Baby, Run & All I Wanna Do
Sheryl's voice doesn't half strain when she tries giving it some. A decent variety of tunes though. Best track: The Na-Na Song.
Ruth, can you see?
All perfectly well put together, a couple of nice tunes and a couple of wee crackers
Decent enough. I really like a couple of the songs.
3.5 stars
decent album, not quite my type of music but not too bad of an album with a few songs that werent too bad but overall not something i would listen to out of my own doing
3.2 - A strong collection of 90s pop rock. No surprises.
I have always abhorred All I Want to Do. It's been decades now since it last infiltrated my radio all day and night at the height of its popularity but even today hearing it is an offense to my ears. Luckily, Sheryl has far better songs, some on this album even. The other singles from here are pretty good and Run, Baby, Run is catchy enough and well-put together that I figured it would be a hit. It's not a terrible album overall but just stop when it hits that All I Wanna Do as the rest aren't worth your while.
A lovely album of love and fun.
Great pop album from the 90s. It contains one of my favorite pop songs of all times: "All I Wanna Do". However, I've only listened to it in full a few times. Might return later on to it.
Memory lane
I thought some songs were fun but as a collective, I wasn't super impressed. It's cool how there were parts of it that strayed from the more country rock stuff into more RnB.
Some good Sheryl Crow. Poetic and her storytelling is very evident/present in each song. A good mixture of melancholy and upbeat songs. It is missing some more melodic singing but I can appreciate the journey being conveyed here. Overall a decent enough album .
early 2000s teen movie
This album was COOL
Solid! 3.7
Decent album, just nothing really memorable about it and the big singles aren't that great in my opinion
"Solidify" is a great song. I realize that "Wow this sounds neat and was made a while ago" is both getting old and isn't particularly true for a '90s album, but wow this sounds neat and was made a while ago. Very mature-sounding for a debut, probably due to the backstory: Tapping into an existing collaborative group of musicians plus having scrapped a debut already. Not exactly cohesive, but very good. Stuck between whether this is a 3 3.5 or a 4 3.5. As I tend to do when rating just about anything. Heh.
The kinda tacky cover made me nervous, but it was pretty good, actually! I think I liked it better than her second album. Some weaker numbers (mostly the ballads that kinda drag), but for the most part straight bops. My favourites were “Leaving Las Vegas,” the Wendy & Lisa-ish “Solidify,” and “All I Wanna Do.”
Yeah just straight up rock n roll, even if it's kinda lame. This is where it's at. 3/5.
