Not my kind of music

The second greatest band of all time? This is probably the weakest of their first 6, but that’s no real criticism. It boogies here and there, which is a welcome reminder of their blues rock roots. The opening track is still one of the heaviest, bleakest tunes ever put to tape. 5/5

I have confused death metal with other metal. This is amazing im glad i lsitened to it

A fantastic debut album from Ozzie and the band. Great musicianship well written songs and Ozzie is at his best as lead singer.

I've nothing to add that hasn't already been said about Black Sabbath. This is an incredible album that birthed an entire genre.

All done with Sabbath on the list now, uhh they might be the best band ever?

Fucking. Classic.

5/5, perfect debut favs: literally everything least fav: wicked world i suppose

The first in a catalog of classics

Gritty, awesome and a great debut

A masterclass in heavy metal from the album that started it all. This was my introduction to music and I will listen to this album again and again as long as I have ears.

oh please god help me

SABBATH!!!!

10/10, masterpiece, no notes. Probably on of the most influential albums in my life.

No wonder Sabbath found success in the early 70s; their fellow Boomers' gleeful destruction of everything holding them back from the hedonism they seemed to believe was not just their due, but the right and true way to live. And who's to say they weren't, really? There was a crew of generally stoned "Heads" back in mid- and high school for whom the wafer-thin Satanic suggestions of Black Sabbath seemed to have been a balm to wounded hearts. Those kids were dicks to me, so I went right ahead and hated Sabbath for quite a long time. I came to love Black Sabbath as a fully grown adult, because their quaint and shabby community-theater version of magic just gave me the giggles. I've sung along to many of their songs hundreds of times because every time, I remember how much I love the "Doctor Who" school of theatrical sets and props, a school Black Sabbath seems to have embraced themselves. I've often been surprised by how many musical clips they stole from the era of music around them--a bit o' the Jimmy Page here, a bit o' the funk there, all to spice up their otherwise 100% straight-ahead version of a showman's Rock music they pursued. Long live Black Sabbath!

100000

If you forget about all the showbiz stuff that surrounded Ozzy and that they mistakenly gave birth to Heavy Metal, this is a great heavy psyche record.

Actually awesome. The birth of metal, mind-blowing then, still mind-blowing now. Phenomenal riffs, solos, bass, vocals, literally everything. N.I.B. was my fav song and first listen of the album. Sleeping Village and Warning were my other highlights

Does it get any better than this? Top 5 album of all time for sure. Every song is just prime time.

It took me a long time to get Black Sabbath. In the late '70s, a friend put together a heavy rock mix tape with "Iron Man" and "Paranoid" on it, and I liked them, but the first Black Sabbath record I bought was Heaven and Hell, on which Ronnie James Dio sang. I heard the Live At Last record which was put out to compete with H&H and it wasn't good, and I therefore considered early Sabbath as monolithic and relatively monotonous. What did I know? "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath from Black Sabbath started a new genre. It would be difficult today to find a metal band who didn't owe at least something, even indirectly, to Sabbath. They were responsible for the creation of Heavy Metal, even if they were not trying to. They took the heavy blues of Cream, jazz influences (especially in Bill Ward's drumming and Tony Iommi's guitar. They were heavier than anything else, primarily due to the great riffs, particularly in Geezer Butler's bass doubling Iommi's guitar. They were progressive and inventive, much more than they were given credit for. Sabbath would make better albums. My favourite varies depending on where I am; Masters of Reality if I am in a Doom Metal mode, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath or Sabotage if I'm feeling spacey and proggy. But this is where it started and, if you don't know the band, this is where you should start.

I love Black Sabbath, i listened to them even before this review and album listening. This is the first Black Sabbath album that i fully listened to and honestly, it's great. Not because it's first heavy metal album, but because it's just great. Fav tracks - Black Sabbath, N.I.B., Sleeping Village.

This is an alltimer. Ozzy at his peak, and an absolute fundament for a whole genre.

I mean…it’s Black Sabbath. It’s not as polished as their later releases but the grime and grit is rather endearing.

- An almost perfect debut, the "Evil Woman" cover being the weakest track by far. Literally creates a genre. I can't imagine hearing this for the first time a the time it was released. There was nothing close to this. -

Ah the OG metal album. What a shock people must have got when they played this for the first time in 1970. Unprepared to say the least. This is still a great album. And it's still pretty heavy even at 56 years old. Tons of great riffs here. Ozzy sounds amazing. Drums and bass are both fantastic. I think I like Paranoid a little better but this is still up there with the best heavy albums of all time. 5/5

Classic fucking doom, brother

OG Heavy Metal

Short and sweet and absolutely slays

Absolut perfection

Good album

The birth of metal!

Оце вже інша справа))) Я їх люблю!!!

I can't imagine being a teenager in 1970 and hearing this record for the first time. Like, you have no concept of what heavy metal is, but maybe your friend loans you this or the guy at the record store suggests you should buy it, who knows... anyway, you drop the needle on this for the first time and you hear the rain and then, I guess, you probably just black out and wake up to your dad screaming at you to turn this record off? I don't know the specifics, but I'm sure your life is different forever.

Heavy music has been such an influence on my life and listening habits. Some might say that all might have started right here in 1970 with Sabbath’s debut album. Not my favorite Sabbath album but when you press play on this thing you realize it’s pretty flawless. And that’s why I’ve spent so many hours listening to this thing. From the rain and thunder of the opening (and title) track to the bombastic drum fills and Toni’s riffs cutting through Warning at the end it’s hard rock poetry. I love this album.

10/10: what a start. One of my favourite and most listened albums of all time. Every song is a masterpiece and deserves its own place in music history. Every musician on this album is outstanding, but oh my god Ozzy Osbourne blows me away every time. If this album does nothing for you, chances are we simply have no common interests musically. As good as it gets, good luck to whoever’s next. Favourite song: N.I.B. Best moment: when Ozzy goes “ooooooooh noooooooooo” on Black Sabbath For fans of: any electric guitar-based music

Excellent.

Hell yeah.

Absolutely perfect,it would be a crime to rate it less than 5

It's just so good

All time classic

Perhaps the greatest debut record of all time. Opening track immediately knocks you off your ass and prepares you for what's to come. Side one features 2 very important songs for this band accompanied by 2 of my personal favorite Sabbath cuts. Side 2 is my favorite easily, Wicked World and A Bit of Finger bang so hard. For an almost 60 year old record this is a masterpiece and is more contemporary sounding than nearly anything else that came before it. If you can make one record like this in your lifetime that's all you need. But then they made like 6 more that were just as good if not better after it. Unreal

This really is an excellent album. It really is incredible to think about this in context of the time- imagine hearing this in 1970. Honestly, an entire genre of music may not have existed if not for this band, this album and Tony Iommi.

Lowkey ominous.

Hell ya

Listened to before? Partially Context? The debut album of THE foundational metal band, explored a never-before-heard dark, sluggish, heavy sound *Reviewed in a holistic format* The fact that this album came to be due to a factory accident is all too fitting. There's a horror here that's very specifically working-class—a B-movie horror lurking beneath the lives of your average laborer and church-goer. It's the darkness webbed between the bare trees lining your walk home from school—the spirits flitting between the unkempt graveyard of the local chapel—an occult secret hanging like fog over the dreary Birmingham streets. A seminal heavy metal album, Black Sabbath's self-titled debut, in all its detuned guitar work and building tension, was something novel to the world of 1970. It drew upon classic literature such as Lord of the Rings (similar to Led Zeppelin) and H.P. Lovecraft to bring a fantastical darkness to life. Characters include mysterious figures, Satan, a wizard, corrupt politicians, and demons, positioned against vivid imagery and a gritty sonic landscape. The album is extremely focused, with only five songs spanning the length of forty minutes. The guitar work is impressive. Listening to this album, you can see why the genre is called "metal." It's as if Tony Iommi never quite left that sheet metal factory. Even the faster-paced riffs and solos have that detuned, sludgy bite to them (solo around the three-minute mark of "Wicked World," for example.) Outside of the heavy metal sound, there's a harmonica riff, as well as some clear blues and jazz influences. As unique as the album was for the time, there's a clear line of influence, which only serves to add more credit to the album. They managed to take the raw emotion of that blues sound and turn it into something dark. This is clearest in the melodies, sludgy riffs, and Ozzy Osbourne's style of singing. In front of any other instrumentals, he would be a blues singer. His vocals are another majorly impressive part of this album. The whole world of music fundamentally changed after hearing him yell "Oh, no, no! Please, God, help me!" on the opening track. And I'm glad it did.

this is the first album of represent of metal, but they were cooking for the pinnacle next album "paranoid". i lov'it N.I.B, is my favorite song of BS poetic, nice rithym of bass and diavolic

album full of bangers

10/10 masterpiece

Great fucking album, and the foundation of Heavy Metal. I fucking love The Wizard 🧙‍♂️. Nativity In Black fucking shreds too 🤘🏻🤘🏻

This is the one that started it all. It still holds up. Heavy music has been a huge part of my life for the last 11 years and we owe it all to Ozzy, Tommy, Geezer and Bill. I can’t imagine how out of this world this record sounded back then. All time classic, groovy as hell and invented metal. 100/100.

If you don't give this 5 stars you don't have 5 brain cells.

Hell yes. Most important album of all time.

I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Perfect

muy bueno

My English roots are and are feelin rockin. Left me inspired and I'm happy to have listened as I believe this is essential listening!

My first exposure to Black Sabbath Album, feels like the sound is the roots for all other song out there. I love how the metal blends to somehow jazz and soul and rythm. I don't know how to describe it, but it surely and unskipable album. If you skip one it feels like you missed the story they wanna tell. I listened to this melody and sound wise, not lyric. Maybe next time.

Great first choice. The beginning of heavy metal. The guitar riffs were the first of the time. Nothing like it before and a lot tried to copy after.

Echt noice!

Love how you can hear hints of everything Sabbath would hone in on with their later albums.

fuck yeah

Great instruments and solos

Surprisingly proggy, amazing through and through

Been listening to this since I was in high school. Absolute classic!

Not my favourite Sabbath album but of course it’s a 5. Cited - correctly or incorrectly - as the birth of metal, but regardless of that the album is solid. Revisiting this it was really evident to me how well it flows. Paired well with the gym too.

Loved it, it was intense all along

goated

perfekt rock

I don’t remember the first time I heard Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut, but I know I was blown away. The opening track, Black Sabbath, is one of the most ominous songs ever recorded. Lead singer Ozzy Osborne sounds like he truly is horrified as the figure in black stands before him. Especially during the “Please, God help me” ad-libs he wails before the band goes into the thunderous main riff of the song. Apparently, the lyrics were written after bassist Geezer Butler woke up and saw a figure in black at the foot of his bed. I remember as a kid being afraid of Ozzy’s music and Black Sabbath because they were devil-worshippers. But if you listen to a lot of Sabbath’s lyrics, they are trying to warn you about the devil. It’s like Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue said about their song Shout At The Devil, “We’re telling people to shout at the devil, not shout with the devil.” Black Sabbath, the song, may be the best opening track of an album ever. Track 2 is The Wizard and it’s a weird, but incredible song. Ozzy breaks out the harmonica for this song. The harmonica, what? Yeah, back in the 60’s and early 70s, harmonicas were a big instrument. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, blues bands, they all used the harmonica. Black Sabbath didn’t know any different. And truly, the harmionca adds this kind of edginess to the song. When thinking of Black Sabbath, you’re not necessarily expecting it. Apparently, the song was inspired by Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings books and was also a metaphor for their drug dealer. Great song. Track 3 is Wasp/Behind The Wall of Sleep/Bassically/N.I. B., at least on the North American version of the album. Wasp/Behind the Wall of Sleep starts out very jazzy. Black Sabbath must have been jazz lovers because drummer Bill Ward and bassist Butler are one of the best rhythm sections, and they really swing. When you listen to this album one time, focus on the drums and bass. Behind the Wall of Sleep has a super heavy riff and Ozzy’s vocals sound incredible, but the piece of the resistance is N.I.B., which starts with an iconic bass solo from Butler before guitarist Tony Iommi hits the world with one of the most well-known riffs in metal. Oh yeah! Then the lyrics sneak up on you as Ozzy is singing about loving the person he’s singing to and how he can help them. Then it turns out Ozzy is singing from the point of view of the devil. Now, I can see how that would scare people. It scared me when I was a kid and had no maturity or ability to read between the lines, so to speak. The song isn’t trying to bring kids to the devil, it’s warning them about the devil. But forget that crap, Wicked World is next and its riff is FAT. Wicked World, track 4, isn’t as well-known as the rest of the songs, but it’s a groove, man. And the lyrics? Whoa. “The world today is such a wicked place Fighting going on between the human race People go to work just to earn their bread While people just across the sea are counting their dead. A politician's job, they say is very high For he has to choose who's gotta go and die They can put a man on the Moon quite easy While people here on Earth are dying of old diseases.” It’s amazing how a song written over 50 years ago can still apply today. It’s mind-blowing and sad, as we as a society are still stuck in the same old rut. We need a new Black Sabbath to come around and, if not save us, then give us a good soundtrack as we circle the drain. The last song on the North American release is A Bit of Finger/Sleeping Village/Warning. Warning isn’t about the devil or the impending doom brought upon us by our politicians and billionaires, but it’s simply about a woman. A devil woman! Well, not really, but Ozzy knows he should stay away from her. The band is at its top lick on this song as they jam and enter a flow state of riffasticness. Plus, in the middle, you get a guitar solo from Iommi that can’t be anything but divine. This album is a classic, and it’s where real heavy metal started. Led Zeppelin was heavy for their day, but Sabbath are the fathers of heavy metal. If you’ve wondered or were curious about metal, listen to this as your gateway album. If you don’t like Sabbath, metal might not be for you. This is a must-listen album for historic purposes and for good, clean fun purposes.

How could I not give this a 5? What a debut album! What a band! The album that started a musical revolution. Bangers start to finish.

Well, I was pretty excited to listen to this...until I saw it features my nemesis. Songs longer than 7 minutes. I have fish brain. I can only hope it's interesting. I actually did like the other album I heard by them enough to give it 5 stars, so theoretically this should be good? Let's see... Wait, why is there a different version for the U.S.? That's kind of annoying. I'm listening to that one tho 1. Black Sabbath - I'm not wowed by this but it's good 2. The Wizard - Ooh, I love the start. WAIT THIS IS ABOUT GANDALF??? 3a. Wasp/Behind The Wall of Sleep - I loved that intro, wow. Is it bad lyrically this is reminding me of Kate Bush's Hounds of love 2nd half? 3b. Bassically/N.I.B. - Okay, that being called "bassically" is kind of iconic. Me thinking N.I.B was a love song then...OH shit. still a vibe. Wow guitars, nice 4. Wicked World - Okay, immediately love that guitar riff, holy shit. 5a. Bit of Finger - I don't why they meshed the tracks together like this? This one is cool as fuck tho, I love the eerie vibes. 5b. Sleeping Village - Okay love the guitars. theyre great, I can't deny. 5c. Warning - Oh, this one is a cover? Okay, so this one is cool, I like it, but... I guitar solors were kind of a lot on first listen. They were cool and all, but they took up so much time. I know and understand that's sacrilegious to say. sorry. They might grown on me with repeated listens I did like this overall...I'm not sure if I should put this at a 4 or 5...hmm. Fuck it, it's a 5 cause of LOTR

pure magic

One of the more rare entries where it’s abundantly clear why it’s on this list. Rightfully so

Hot take: second half of the title track is kinda not good

N I B So good and so definitive.

Ozzy <3. Dobra płyta na 5

10/10 no notes

fuck. yes. RIP Ozzy 🖤

No notes. Classic.

1. Black Sabath - 4:38 up tempo, malo sporije, ali odlicna muzika, 3.5/5 2. The Wizard - bas dobar ritam, 4.5/5 3. Behind The Wall of Sleep - slicno kao prosla, 4/5 4. N.I.B. - Sympathi for Devil, mnogo pre kraja ocena, nisam pogresio 5/5 5. Evil Woman, Don't Play Your Games with Me - prva koja mi ima malo vise metal ritam, opet mi ima neki poppy prizvuk u refrenu, 4/5 6. Sleeping Village - vise instrumental, odlican prelaz na sledecu 4.5/5 7. Warning - 6:05 kakvo przenje, (od 3:16 krece ozbiljna solaza, ali ovo uff), na 7:00 krece drugi deo, 5/5 8. Wicked World - pocetak obecava, politicka 4.5/5 Ukupno: 4.5/5

This great album can only be rated 5 stars! Genre determining Full of cool guitar riffs Full of cool bass lines Amazing drumming Ozzy’s unique vocals One of the best metal albums of all time!

Hit after hit, THE Ozzy era album.

great, liked the N.I.B. a lot. the other songs just really sounds true to their names

This album was so fun to listen to. It is loud and colorful and the music was GOOD. I enjoyed it so much and kept on bopping along while listening to it. This will be going on my mental list of albums to listen to when studying.

I listened to a lot of metal this week due to this but this is the peak one - it’s really good I love it The guitar riffs are insane in warning and evil woman

just a straight forward heavy rock album without bells and whistles. aged very well!

The song Black Sabbath is about a man losing his mind as Satan approaches, but if you play it backwards it's about a man feeling better because Satan is going away.

Black sabbath is peak

Where has this album been all my life and why am I just now discovering it? When I was a kid, I saw the heavy metal album covers, thought they were creepy, and avoided the whole thing. People just talked about how it was satanic and about Ozzy biting the heads off birds and whatnot. Nobody ever told me it was actually good music, even without all the theatrics.

The OG

Satan's a pretty weird dude

peam alert?? so funny that slow sometimes-sludge-y doom metal was kinda first subgenre of metal to exist--it pretty much founded metal, or at least was like the first definitive time you could hear it and be like "that is metal" and not "ehhh that's kinda almost metal but [blah blah blah]" ive already heard this album before but its always a treat to hear it again hehe

Already listened lol amazing album my fav is the wizard

Очень отличается от привычного нам Black Sabbat. В хорошую добрую сторону. Как будто в закулисье зашел. На гаражную репетицию, где музыканты играют так, как будто их никто не слышит. От души и на полную эмоцию. Очч рекомендую

Although at times it sounds like unreleased demos, it's important to state how much I loved this album. Throughout, it puts you in an atmosphere of dread and despair, and holds up surprisingly well despite essentially being the blueprint for metal

dude this is one of the best albums ive heard in my life, amazing!

Legendary album. Not a single bit of filler and a great start for the metal genre 9/10

I’m a heavy metal and crooners fan. This album is first Black Sabbath and first heavy metal album. 3 of 5 songs added to playlist and album added to my library.

Hell yeah! \m/_ wicked shit!!!

The Prince of Darkness Himself. RIP. Black Sabbath focusing on the dark and suffering part of the blues and incorporating some of the emerging psychedelic guitar trends and just going darker. And people loved it. Which caused them to lean more into going heavier and darker. The horror movie equivalent of music. The Black Sabbath track definitely embodies this (although I could do without the "OH NOOOOO"'s). What's funny is you can definitely hear why it was originally called "heavy blues-rock" in The Wizard with Ozzy on the harmonica (and there is definitely a cowbell in there, you can't hide that from me!) and in the last track. It's just so interesting seeing how metal evolved from blues, but it makes total sense. This may not have been their best album, but man it's a great one and a great debut. It definitely struck a chord with a ton of people since it went platinum despite all the critics hating it. I'm sure Paranoia is on here as well, so i'm excited to hear that one. I've heard these songs before, but haven't really listened to an entire Sabbath album, so it's really cool to hear the origins of heavy metal and the birth of a legend and genre.

Absolute game changer. Nothing touched this for at least another 10 years.

This was outer earth the days.

Timeless classic rock. RIP Ozzy

Classic, so good all around. Probably my favorite sabbath album

Obvious 5/5. Classic album. As are all the first 5 Sabbath records.

Deliciously Dark and Demonic. The work of. Black Sabbath is solidly following the tradition of English Gothic Literature. Loved It!!!!!

loved every song

Easy top marks for this album. I love the production and listening with headphones enhances the experience as you can hear each instrument individually. I'm a big metal fan, so this is an album I've listened to before. Some classic tracks, the opener just fills you with dread. The Wizard is a jukebox favourite of mine. My first 10/10 album! Hugely influential and still sounds great to this day.

sinistro de bom

The beginning of peak! Every groove is phenomenal; the only itch I could fathom is that harmonica, but this may be a perfect pioneer album. RIP Ozzy

10/10 - I try to avoid giving ratings that are too highly inflated by “influence” or “creating a genre” if the album doesn’t hold up years later. This album holds up 50 years later. This album has one of the best album openings of all time and immediately creates an atmosphere for the rest of the album. This is a no skip album that is a 5 star album. Bonus stars for influence and creating a genre.

Classic! Stark departure from most of the contemporary music.

Dark, black magic masterpiece. Pre-metal. No skips.

obra prima

I thought trying not to listen to this after Ozzy's recent death and not let it influence my decision would be difficult but seeing as this album is absolutely fucking immense the band make it easy. The first ever metal album opens with bash your head in riffs, some wailing bloke singing incantations, pummeling drums and surprisingly jazzy bass lines. Goddamn this album rocks and it opens with a song title the same as the album title the same name of the band; how many have done that? If you don't like this album you can just fuck right off and give your ears a clean and try again. Best Tracks: Black Sabbath; The Wizard; N.I.B.

I remember the first time I heard this album: I was very young and it scared the shit out of me. It was the beginning of heavy metal, which is named after the steel plants and industrial factories of Northern England, including Birmingham and Sheffield. I am a Sabbath fan and metal head, and this one's getting full marks from me.

Brilliant, love this album. I’m a recent Sabbath convert

The birth of heavy metal. Still totally rocks and takes a well-deserved place on this list. And a big shout out to Louisa Livingstone on that album cover, too, setting the tone for all the tunes to come.

Yeah this shit rips. This was my first Sabbath record listened all the way through and what a way to start.

I've never cared much for the slow plodding of doom metal but considering this is the forerunner of the genre and doesn't sound like anything else at the time I'll give it a pass; especially since it does eventually kick into some heavy blues rock.

A great album. What else is there to say??

I’ve obviously listened to this album before, but giving it a fresh listen now. WOW it’s so powerful. I mean the starting title track is legendary and still so effective as a scary and heavy track. Then they pivot into The Wizard which is bluesier and chaotic and still very heavy. Behind The Wall of Sleep gets heavier but keeps the groove going and then we got the incredible bass into and riff of NIB. Man this album just keeps on giving. Energy and quality does drop off in the second side. Evil Woman is meh and Sleeping Village not great. Warning is a cool jam but unfocused. Wicked World is more energetic but overall the second side is weak. Anyway easy for stars for significance and strong first side.

This is the all time greatest debut album by any band ever. Yeah, there were heavy-ish things that came before this…Deep Purple, Blue Cheer, “Helter Skelter” by The Beatles…but that opening, the sounds of thunder with a church bell tolling in the distance, then Tony Iommi coming in with THAT riff. I’ve often wondered what it would have been like hearing this when it first came out in 1970 and there being nothing remotely like this that existed before. Because fifty five years later (!) it’s still spooky. The riffs, the atmosphere, one of the greatest albums ever written, never mind the massive influence it had and continues to have.

Truly an amazing album. The fact that this album invented heavy metal and still holds up today is a testament to its greatness.

Of course.

Metal Classic.

Masterpiece

This change music. Masterpiece.

no review required for this one lol

First time hearing black sabbath and was a wonderful experience. Rip Ozzy. ALL the musicians are incredibly talented. Song review in no particular order: Black Sabbath- I think it’s very cool and ominous to have the rain/storm and church bell rings to start. This should be seen more in music. Guitar is very cool and fits perfectly. I love how they continue to use bells as percussion. Drums make me feel like I’m at some sort of fire ritual. Drums and guitar mvp. The bass guitar has some cool bits that add to the whole thing. I love the little switch up in the middle. Guitar riff is nice and vocals are carrying. Great performance musically overall. 5/5 Behind the Wall of Sheep- intro sets the vibe and very well done. Love the drum. I love the almost call and response/ echo type thing going on with guitar and vocals. Found myself bobbing to the music. Guitar is amazing. Bass is added what is needed to make a good song great. Love the drum rhythm. It’s the type of guitar part that people sing when thinking of the song.5/5 Sleeping village- starting guitar definitely makes it feel like a “sleeping village.” Then there’s a pause and oh the villagers are definitely awake now. I wish I could wake up to this everyday. Amazing musicianship once again. I wish I was the drummer. Bass slay. I love the cowbell and tambourine(I think that’s what it is). How is the guitarist and bass guitarist fingers still attached. The boing from the harp is mvp. 5/5 Evil women- love the start. Feels nostalgic for some reason. Love the bass. Vocals are a little catchy. Guitar takes on a bit of a percussive role. Guitar is giving some spice and attitude. Once again blown away by everyone’s skill. 5/5 N.I.B- Guitar slays intro. I love how it fades away. Got my head rocking straight away. Guitar is mvp. I love the crash on drums. Tambourine is great. I like how it slows down. The changes in vibe/tempo/texture keeps it interesting. I like the little “oh, yeah”s. Got a bit sick of it towards end. Was good but not sensational. 4/5 Wicked world- Drums is absolutely slaying. Guitar and bass guitar are amazing as well. This song puts me in a good mood. Love the drum fills and catchy guitar riff. The quiet bit is cool and satisfying. The guitarist is going crazy. I love the drums bringing it back in. This song gives an effortlessly cool vibe. Felt a little long. 4/5 The wizard- love the harmonica intro. Catches attention straight away and fits in well once other instruments join. Has a unique vibe. Guitar is crazy. Love the drums so much. The little guitar trills add a lot. 5/5 Warning- is a very cool song. I feel a bit of spice from the instruments which I love. Vocals is mvp here. The bass is giving off such a cool vibe. The drums and guitar is insanely talented like how are their arms/fingers not filling of. Drums underrated. Guitar slowdown as satisfying and perfectly bring back to tempo. Bass is effortlessly cool. Guitar left me speechless. Everything was absolutely silent in that rest. Surprised it kept me entertained for such a long song. One of the best in the album. 5/5

Great throwback. I feel like the band was very experimental at the time with their sound, which really paid off

Horror move set to music.

great album

Rocked hard, loved it

Amazing, loved it

Love it!!!!

I love this album, but, really it's a hard rock album with a bit of diabolus in musica

Amazing album

Did not expect to like this. I had labeled Black Sabbath as heavy metal that would be insufferable. This album has every element of classic rock but with another form of mixing. The vocals on The Wall and Behind the Wall of Sheep were loud and double tracked. The guitar stole the show, almost making the vocals a supplemental instrument. N.IB bass line I was dream about. Wicked World drum intro was insane. I was on the edge of every note waiting to see what would happen next. Great album!!!

LOVED. I don't think I've ever sat down and intentionally listened to black sabbath but I'm glad i did. Very surprised by how much this one hit me in my feels.

Icónico. Magnífico. El inicio de una era. \m/

NIB and behind the wall Of Sleep are perfection

YES Maybe not my favorite Black Sabbath album, but that doesn't mean it's not a 5-star album.

Already knew that one

Good album. Rest in eternal peace, Ozzy, and know that you will forever live on and inspire others through your music.

Great project! Incredible guitar playing, vocals, and melodies. Truly ahead of its time and it shows

FUCK YEAH The fathers of heavy metal never miss

Great stuff. Not my favourite Sabbath material, but cool story about Iommi’s fingertips and the detuned sound that resulted (in the Apple Music bio).

I can see why this album paved the way for Metal going into the 70s what an album 5/5.

This album invented metal and it's as good today as it was back then. Every song is a banger and I find it hard to believe there will be a better album on this list for me.

This came out 55 years ago! Incredible stuff

Five!!!!!!! Five!!!!!!!! Five!!!!!!!!! So damn good

Melhor do álbum: "N.I.B.". Pior do álbum: "Evil Woman, Don't Play Your Games with Me".

Outstanding early "metal" and hard rock.

The neatest thing to come out of this music adventure is finding out that I really love 70s/80s Heavy Metal. Who knew!?

The birth of Metal

Listened to this before, as part of a complete retrospective of Ozzy's work after his passing (from Sabbath to Solo work). It will be, like Nevermind before it, fun to formally give thoughts to something I already know. Right from the get go, the self-titled song on the self-titled album, "Black Sabbath" tells us everything we need to know about the band before embarking on the journey through their discography: Guitars tinged with evil (as I understand it, the first implementation of 'The Devils Chord'; a G7) and Ozzy's foreboding voice over these plodding guitar chords. Mentions of Satan and Dark figures, his screams and pleas to god create for a wicked visualisation. The harmonicas at the start of "The Wizard" are a unique, fun addition and grab your attention immediately, followed by more of Iommi's iconic heavy guitar chords. Said to be inspired by Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, the track is nothing more than a fun hat tip in musical form; other reviewers are way too serious. "Behind the Wall of Sleep" isn't particularly remarkable in terms of lyrics and delivers more of the same in Iommi's telltale guitar sound. Compared to "N.I.B", it feels like unnecessary filler. From the reverbed guitars, Ozzy's swaying sound and the tambourine make Nativity in Black a truly unique song. Combined with the lyrics, told from the perspective of Lucifer himself, it paints epic pictures in the minds eye. As a huge fan of the bass guitar, "Evil Woman" is instantly elevated to one of my favourites. I also love the juxtaposition of the lyric "Evil Woman, don't you play your games with me" delivered in a tone I can only describe as 'festive', as if sang like a Christmas classic. "Warning" feels like a compilation of experimentation or "best bits" of Iommi's messing around with the guitar, which has it's place for guitar enthusiasts who are players themselves or fans of artists like Steve Vai. It has it's place, but didn't land with me. Finally, with "Wicked World", the simple yet strong lyrics are delivered flavorfully by Ozzy in a fuzzy, almost megaphone like sound. Unfortunately, more of Toni's showing off doesn't allow it to reach the heights that it could have compared to how the track starts. Stated by many as the first ever Heavy Metal album, it is undeniable the impact the album has had, breaking new ground for music as a whole. For that alone, it deserves recognition.

Esse é um dos álbuns favoritos da minha vida. Só de imaginar o quão impactante e medonho deve ter sido na época do lançamento me dá arrepios. QoA Adonis New.

Amazing

This is my type of music. Guitar riffs, growling lyrics, just that darkness that only rock of a certain type can convey. And somehow i can listen to it for hours on end. One of my favourites in this list so far.

6 out of 5 stars! I know that in music there is almost never a "first" band/artist/album/song of any genre. But if there was going to be a first "metal" album, for my money this is it! The intro of this album is dark, ominous, and fucking METAL. I can't think of a better way to begin the genre than Black Sabbath. The rest of the album is also great, but nothing really reaches the level of the first track. I'm totally willing to hear the rest of the album as the band trying to figure out how they want do use the psychedelic music they are so clearly indebted to do what they want

black sabbath track was actually amazing. its like slow in a heavy way and the guitar is epic. The beat changes halfway through and is still good. whole thing is great. even the long ah songs. 5/5

2 Black Sabbath albums in the span of 4 days? In one week? I don’t know if this is coincidental or not, but I’m definitely not complaining. Of course I love this album, I know it by heart from front to back. The first Sabbath record, self titled, with a song named after the band itself. The album that started everything and created a whole new genre. The birth of heavy metal. A young band had a simple idea, what if we make music that’s scary like horror films? The rest is history. Imagine being in 1970, the heaviest things people had really heard were Zeppelin, Hendrix, maybe Deep Purple. You’re browsing a vinyl shop, you see this eerie unsettling album with a grainy photo of a mysterious woman in a field. You buy it out of curiosity, take it home, put it in the vinyl player and suddenly you’re hearing this tense, evil sounding record. It was unlike anything else at the time and it still holds up today. I’m so lucky I managed to get golden tickets to see Ozzy and Sabbath on their last show, right at the front of the crowd practically at the barriers. The album cover has always struck me. For the longest time I thought the woman on the photo was Ozzy. Even now it has this creepy, unsettling vibe, and I’ve never fully understood its meaning if it even has one. Overall, I know every track on this album inside out. It’s easily in my top 5 Sabbath albums, though I wouldn’t be able to rank them in order.

The first few Sabbath albums were masterpieces that just don't get old

I mean, it’s Black Fucking Sabbath! If you don’t like this, you probably don’t like Rock n Roll!

Classic SABBATH!

nice metal more bluesy than I expected would definitely listen again

Full of classic riffs. Hard hitting. Fantastic.

Seminal album, created a genre of music. Epic crescendos and powerful vocals. One of the best albums of all time.

HEAT. I NEEDED THIS TODAY

It took until today for me to understand why people rate Black Sabbath so highly. This album is incredible. It is the foundation upon which heavy music has been built on. I don't even think any of their famous songs are on this one, and it's still sublime! This album is why lists like these exist.

What I would give to be a teenager in 1970 hearing the song Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath on the album Black Sabbath for the very first time. What can be said that hasn't been said a million times. Tony Iommi created all the best riffs. Bill Ward's jazzy flourishes and Geezer Butler's bass-playing make it clear that this isn't simply heavy music. And yet the heaviness seeps through everything.

Excellent choice for Halloween.

This album inspired a whole genre of music. It’s hard to describe the effect this music had when released over 50 years ago. An absolute classic, great drummer, superb bassist and one of the guitar gods. It’s sounds harsh but Ozzy was probably the weakest member of the band. And he became a legend! A great listen half a century after release and still inspiring new musicians to take things forward.

The origin and the ultimate form of dark metal — timeless and unequaled. I love every track on this album. Ozzy’s distinctive high-pitched voice perfectly blends with Tony’s skillful guitar work and the tight rhythm section. When listen closely, every part sounds incredibly precise and thoughtfully arranged. I can only imagine what a shock it must have been for people hearing this in 1970. I wish I could have seen them live, just once.

Hell of a debut

This is one of the greatest records ever released. It changed a genre, if not invented it. It's influenced just about everything since. It's METAL when there wasn't metal. This record is undeniable.

Love this album, love the guitar tone it has, listened to fully with no stops.

another classic, and one that I also listened to often when I was younger. There isn't a single song here that I can't remember in its entirety. These have aged much better for me than most other classic rock songs. The tone is unmatched and this is easily one of the most influential albums of the 20th century, essentially creating multiple entire genres that would follow.

Nobody has made an entrance as epic as Black Sabbath. The self-titled song on their self-titled album announced the arrival of Sabbath with a slow, ominous, dark riff that eventually descends into a glorious bluesy jam. That's what I always forget about Sabbath: how bluesy they were. Sure, they laid the groundwork for heavier rock (and even metal), but always with a blues and rock 'n' roll core underneath it all. It works so well. The perfect example is, in my opinion, on the absolute best song on the album, "The Wizard". The use of the harmonica in The main riff is iconic, especially when used with those drum fills. It's one of the all-time great songs, and impossible to not make you smile. For all their satanic iconography and dark personas, the music is actually very upbeat and instantly lifts your mood. As I listen to this album for the first time in many years, I hear more similarities to Zeppelin than I ever did in the past. This is proper rock 'n' roll territory, and done perfectly. For example, during "Warning", Iommi seems to forget what he was doing, and goes into an 8 minute long solo, before returning to Ozzy's verse again at the end of the song. But every second of it is enjoyable. There are so many crazy, hilarious stories about the band, that it's easy to focus on that and forget that they had serious skill in both musicianship and songwriting underneath it all. I'm guilty of that - I always loved Sabbath, but I clearly didn't give them enough credit as a serious band, because listening back to this album, it's an absolute classic that deserves the same credit that we give to Zeppelin and other rock legends.

Pure Ozzy

love the vibe, the guitar sounds great. vocals are really good. honsetly the nusic is so good you dont care that the songs are long (6 mins plus). 10/10!

Iconic.

Has there been a Black Sabbath album that does not rate a 5? One of the most entertaining and challenging sounds to hit the turntables. An amazing debut that spoke to greater things to come.

Piece for the lost island

That's some real blues! I didn't expect to hear that kind of groove in metal. Warning and Wicked World are definitely two of my top picks. I love how the drums, bass, guitar (and harmonica in The Wizard) all come together.

103/1001 Black Sabbath - s/t Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ The birth of heavy metal. This absolutely rules. The imagery conjured up here, the riffs, the interplay between guitar and bass. Love it.

261/1089 - Get a different vocalist and it's one of the best metal albums ever made. Then again, the amount of sick instrumental parts in this make me want to give it 5 stars anyways, eh why not?

The album that started it all! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Some cool guitar work but probably won’t be coming back to this one

I liked listening to Black Sabbath on Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath - 5/5 The Wizard - 5/5 Behind the Wall of Sleep - 4/5 N.I.B. - 5/5 Evil Woman, Don't Play Your Games With Me - 4/5 Wicked World - 5/5 Sleeping Village - 5/5 Warning - 5/5 Average rating: 4.8/5 superb. i think much of Black Sabbath's work is truly timeless. like, i'm certain it will hold up til the end of time it's so good. idk what kind of sorcery went into this album

Quality album elevated to stratospheric by NIB and wicked world

History. Rip Ozzy

Not gonna waste my time. Self explanatory...

classic. rip Ozzy

Pure Brilliance

Always surprising how bluesy this one is. Still a blast, very few low points.

You start a genre, you get 5-stars. This album created metal (along with many subgenres of metal, like doom). So, it has to be a top-ranked album. The opening triple-eponymous track is absolutely legendary.

Though it doesnt reach the highs of their sophomore effort, that dont matter cause its mf black sabbath, theyre almost perfect regardless 9.4

Fuckin Sabbath Amazing!

I mean come on, it can only be 5 stars

RIP Ozzy

I mean, it's Black Sabbath. Amazing album

Before this project, I hadn't listened to much Black Sabbath. They have always been l;umped in with "heavy metal" and there wasn't much of that genre that I got into. Always respected Sabbath, just never listened to much, though I of course knew all the big songs. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous Sabbath we listened to (which had many of the songs I already knew), but the debut I wasn't as familiar with. Glad I had a reason to listen to this one. My thoughts while listening were - this isn't so much "metal" as it is louder blues-rock, and that I can get into.

What is this that stands before me ... a masterpiece!

cant say much, its a masterpiece

One of the greatest debut albums ever. Every track on here is absolutely fire. I give it a 6 out of five.

Black Sabbath is one of those debuts that changed everything. From the opening thunder and tolling bell of the title track, the album sets a mood of dread and heaviness that rock had never really touched before. Tony Iommi’s riffs are crushing, Geezer Butler’s basslines add a dark undercurrent, and Bill Ward’s drumming gives it all weight, while Ozzy Osbourne’s eerie vocals tie it together with a sense of menace. Tracks like “The Wizard” and “N.I.B.” show that the band could balance groove with darkness, making the music both unsettling and addictive. What makes the record so powerful is its atmosphere. Even when the songs shift into bluesy jams, there is always a shadow hanging over the sound, something doom-laden that separates it from the hard rock of the time. It is raw, rough around the edges, and completely groundbreaking. Black Sabbath did not just mark the arrival of a new band, it essentially invented heavy metal, and over fifty years later it still feels just as vital and ominous.

The sound of rain, the toll of the bell and then Tony hits ye right up the bake with THAT riff? Christ alive, hook it to my veins! Can I give it 10?

Great album

Great debut album that helped birthed a genre and pave the way for the future of rock!

One of the greatest metal albums of all time. Absolutely love it.

5 estrelas

Excellent album, hugely influential. I forgot about the harmonica parts. 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars only because there were a few songs that could have rocked more (I sound like Beavis & Butt-Head).

A masterpiece - really not much more to say.

heavy. awesome. legendary.

I've already listened to his album (9). How a whole genre of music was born of one spooky day in a studio. The originator.

Favorite tracks: Wicked World, Evil Woman You can't go wrong with Black Sabbath, and the harmonica and jaw harp were a fun surprise! I know it's what they're known for, but I'm personally not as into the slow tracks like the first one

•••••

This is a longtime favorite -- have been listening to it for more than 30 years.

In the beginning hard rock and metal was a single track to two on a "heavy" Zeppelin, Cream, Hendrix, Deep Purple or Blue Cheer album. Or perhaps a single heavy song on an otherwise Prog Rock or Psychedelia album. This was the dawn of a dark, groove-heavy day. A black sun in the sky and a susurrus of dark birds blotting out the remaining light. And in this time the light in the discos dimmed a bit, the candy pop melted and dripped to the gutter. Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you! Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!

pretty much singlehandedly started one of the most popular music genres of all time lmao favorite song: "black sabbath" overall: 10/10

One of my first and still my favorite! Sweet Sanbath

Not much can be said about this record that hasn’t already been said. Most influential performance of all time. Rest in peace ozzy.

Must have been pretty crazy to listen to this in 1979 for the first time, riffs were heavy, and their drummer is absolutely fantastic, he’s very unique and adds so much the songs. Some of the songs were kinda groovy like Evil Woman and Wicked World which I liked. Definitely enjoyed this a lot more than heavy bands that came after them, every song was good.

Hey dude I hacked you

Getting into overused terms again - classic, genius, etc. This is the birth of heavy metal as the world has come to know it. How lucky for the rest of us that Tommy injured his hand when and in the way he did. Turned out ok for him, too, I think.

First listen, magic.

RIP OZZY

Loved this!

🌑 Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath (1970) This album is the sound of thunderclouds forming inside your ribcage. This is where metal was born—ugly, wet, glorious. Ozzy howls like a man who’s been locked in a castle full of damp regrets, while Tony Iommi makes his guitar sound like it’s coughing up grave dirt. It’s dramatic, theatrical, and somehow makes evil feel kind of cozy. Rating: 4.7/5 Short Review: The sonic equivalent of watching a storm roll in while carving pentagrams into your desk with a compass. Favorite Track: “N.I.B.” – Is it about Satan? Love? Satan as love? Yes.

One of my favorites

a couple surprises here...i havent rly been feeling music that much the past week or so, rarely listening to albums that arent my daily from this project, and i also thought i was comfortable in my opinion on this record due to revisting it very recently in the wake of ozzy's death. but this kinda hit me like a bolt fhsdajhsdj an easy bump up to a perfect score and probably just barely behind master of reality as my favorite sabbath now. the infamous tritone riff on the title track is so screamingly simple and yet so unbanal that it feels like something that was discovered rather than created...its no wonder that tbh, iommi never did anything quite like it again. but what he does do is have one of the most vibrant, recognizable, satisfying, and addictive musical vocabularies of any rock guitarist, and there is no better record to just roll around in that fact that this album's loose and liquid expanse. ozzy comes out the gate perfecting his presence that uses its campiness to increase its urgency and uncanniness, filtering embryonic Rock Star tropes through a kind of earnest Acting that could be directed by george romero. geezer is one of the coolest bassists out there (and ofc the creative nucleus of the band in many ways), and bill ward makes a great argument for being possibly my favorite rock drummer of the 60s or 70s. everyone is on the same aesthetic page, every song gives everyone a chance to lock together yet also show a great deal of autonomy, and the sound itself is one of the greatest creative accomplishments in the history of recorded music. without being traditionally "flashy", its effortlessly dramatic and involving even beyond the more overt atmosphere on the title track. close to the best album cover of all time, too

I don't think I can say anything more about this album that hasn't already been said. It rules! I would recommend listening to it during a thunderstorm as it only enhances the experience

🤘🤘rip ozzy

Of course a true classic. Beginning of heavy metal (or at least most influental album). I really enjoy listening this album. It has the metal sound and lyrics introduced but also some of amore bluesy songs. Because of the A-side a five star album for me.

very nice

Not many bands can release an album that has a similar voice to the first album, but has more to say. This album does that.

MASTERPICE, AMAZING, ILOVE IT (THE WIZARD FAV TRACK IN HERE)

Easy 5. Begining of heavy music, great sound, great songwriting, great musicianship. Loved it since I was 10 y.o. and will love forever. It's where started for me in music and all this years after I love to get back there. R.I.P. Ozzy It's not on this list, but if you were not familiar with Sabbath before and liked it, check Sabotage (1975), best Sabbath album in my opinion.

I think this has to be a 5! Up there in quality with Led Zeppelin, very impressed and very pleased. Wish I had listened to them sooner, can't wait for more of their albums on this list. FWIW, this is WAY better than where heavy metal went in later decades, though maybe that will be proven wrong later in this list. - Intriguing intro. Not as 'heavy' as I was expecting - This bangs. Clear contemporary of Led Zeppelin but have their own sound - Weird how multiple songs are tracked together. Would have added some to the playlist but not all 9 minutes of the track... - Drags on at the end but not enough to knock it from a 5. Hope their later albums are more concise.

❤️

çok iyi

This is where it all began. A great debut album harking at the rest of the bands career. Not as good as Paranoid or Vol 4 but still a tour de force and worthy of 5 stars

Absolute classic. Despite sounding so blues influenced, this is the dawn of heavy metal. RIP Ozzy.

😮‍💨

RIP Ozzy

This is one of very few albums that I immediately loved. By very few, I mean there are around three.

There's some siiiiick riffs here, thanks for inventing metal, guys <3

RIP Ozzy. This wonderful album invented heavy metal. Every moment is influential.

Ozzy! Noooooo! Good timing for an amazing album and tribute to the Prince of Darkness. 8.0 - amazing solos and power.

I got this record the day Ozzy died, rest in peace. A foundational metal record, and an excellent one. Ozzy's singing here is perfect, he strikes the perfect balance between strength, expressiveness and a haunting tone. Iommi's work on guitar is epic and the solos are absolutely amazing. The bass is great too, particularly the solo in "N.I.B". And the drumming is excellent too, the fills are superb. They sound excellent in this album, a hell of a debut and I loved how you can listen the inception of heavy metal, the combination of rock, blues and the dark ambience that would become signature for Black Sabbath. The lyrics are a mix of different themes in varying degrees of darkness: Death, Haunting, Satan, Gandalf, etc. They all work pretty well though, the writting is excellent as they don't overdo it. This album has some epic classics: "N.I.B" is a monumental, heavy and super catchy song about Satan falling in love, and it's super fun. "Warning" is a super powerful closer (for the original release) being a 10 minute epic with some of the best metal instrumental passages. Finally, "Black Sabbath" is the perfect opener and one of the best metal songs ever, it's creepy, haunting and they deliver it perfectly, they sound superb here. The other songs are really good too, maybe "Sleeping Village" is the least good one, but still pretty great. "Wicked World" definitely didn't sound as good, as the mix is a bit too distorted and it feels a bit disjointed from the album, but it wasn't part of the original release so maybe it doesn't really count. Overall, it's an epic debut album and a great record front to back, particularly the original release. I initially felt like giving it 4 stars, but being honest I can't find a justification for not giving it 5 stars. I've been playing it on repeat for the past 5 days, and I've only liked it more, so 5 stars it is.

One of the greatest metal albums ever. I really don't have much of a personal connection with this but the riffs and the overall instrumentation is really great, so many bangers here

Great project! I feel like Vol .4 was better than this, but this was still really good nonetheless. 4.5 if that was possible.

Legendary masterpiece!

Riffs on Riffs. Every part of this combines to create something special and unique. I get it.

The album that started it all… without this record, metal wouldn’t be nearly the same as it is today. Possibly even nonexistent. RIP to Ozzy Osbourne, Prince of Darkness and King of Metal

Ozzyyyy.....godfather of Metal.... gligh high... 5/5 for literally inventing metal music....

I love this album: a great blend of psychedelic, hard rock, and proto-metal. Also the album cover looks both evil and like a renaissance faire fantasy.

rest in peace Ozzy.

Amazing album

It’s Geezer. It’s Tony. It’s Tommy. It’s Ozzy. Without these four Aston lads there would be no Heavy Metal as we know it. From the sound of the rain at the very start of the album, to the final chords of Wicked World, Sabbath laid down the blueprint for the next 50 years of heavy music.

Absolute classic. The Wizard? N.I.B? The actual Black Sabbath, itself? This was the beginning of it all. I’d say RIP Ozzy, but we all know you’ll rise again to reap your vengeance. Years spent in torment, buried in a nameless grave. Now he has risen. Miracles would have to save, Those that the beast is looking for…

Classic. Very timely since Ozzy died today. I just listened to the first 3 Sabbath albums today in tribute.

R.I.P. Ozzy

F****** Classic!

Rest in Peace, Prince of Darkness

esencial, fundamental, pionero, seminal, lo que quieras poner. tanto este coom Paranoid están en cualquier lista. punto.

No matter what day your religion chooses as the Sabbath, may it be a Black one. RIP Ozzy

A true legend never dies, they live in us forever.

Nothing could prepare you for this. It was unlike anything else at the time. And it STILL holds up today.

a fitting entry in this list after the recent passing of the legendary ozzy osbourne. this album is the debut of black sabbath. the prince of darkness welcomes listeners to his graveyard, virgin ears beware. taking some inspiration from blues music, black sabbath immediately puts you in a grimy, ghoulish atmosphere with heavy riffs and WAILING vocals. ozzy was like no other, and after his passing, i can only appreciate his work more. let's get REAL satanic up in here.
