Reviews (page 2 of 9)
Classic Aerosmith, straight up rock and roll. Lots of dumb sexual innuendo, totally on-brand. Several of their big hits on this one. Plenty of cool guitar playing, as you'd expect.
My Uncle in Law ; )
This was the first album I had (CD), probably because it was a favorite of my parents. And in this way, I listened to it so much I can’t really separate my nostalgia.
This was so good. I'd heard it before a few times and knew it was a good album, but every track was just so varied and great-sounding. The classic hits (Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion) were obviously great -- and I know them well, but the other tracks were almost as good and I really loved listening to them. In fact, I loved it so much I listened to it 3 times all the way through and almost went for a 4th. Five stars, easily.
Walk this way is a banger, sweet emotion also fire. Legendary album for a legendary group. What else is there to say? 9.1/10
So many great Aerosmith songs throughout their career, but this is the one true classic, 5-star Aerosmith album!
Love it. Own it.
p340. 1975. 5 stars. Before they became washed up drug addled parodies, Aerosmith were genuine contenders. This is excellent - great riffs, great guitar work, great voice and some great songs. To what heights could they have aspired if they hadn't snorted away all that talent.
A pure classic. 10/10
Ursprünglicher guter Rock!
Awesome
Goated album. Didn’t realize how many of Aerosmiths greatest hits came from this.
Sweet album. Sweet classics like Sweet Emotion. Many repeatable songs.
When I was in high school and just starting to play some guitar, “walk this way” was one of the first guitar riffs I learned. I then proceeded to download the entire album and listen to it on the school bus ride back and forth. I’m going to give this an album a 5 because it was so important for a pretty memorable time of my life. Has some banging tracks too that have really stood the test of time, despite people writing it off as “classic boomer rock”
aerosmith's third album is really fun. the title and album art immediately sets the mood here, a toy chest bursting with colorful and crazy trinkets and toys, plastic action-figure versions of steven tyler and the crew crawling out and giving the kiddies a good show. this album helped solidify the group's status as great rock musicians. a nice healthy blend of rock and blues to cleanse the mind and soul, tyler's voice characteristically scratchy, perry's riffs near-perfect... really what's not to like? i had an awesome time listening to this, and i'm sure you will too.
Awesome
Classic Aerosmith, classic rock and roll.
Finally a 5. I was going to go 4 because the follow up, Rocks, is better, but it's only a 1-5 scale after all. Seen them live 3 times, and oddly enough that includes one of the best and one of the worst concerts I've attended.
its 70s to 90s rock, nuff said
"Toys in the Attic" is the third studio by American rock band Aerosmith. Hard rock and blues rock are the Wiki-listed genres. Oh, yeah. The band had become much better players from their year-long tour supporting their previous album and brought in more sophisticated writing which they did while recording the album. The producer was Jack Douglass and bandmembers included Steven Tyler (lead vocals, keyboards, harmonica, percussion), Joe Perry (guitars, backing vocals, percussion), Bob Whitford (guitars), Tom Hamilton (bass, rhythm guitar) and Joey Kramer (drums, percussion). The album actually had mixed reviews upon its release which have become more favorable over time. It is Aerosmith's most commercially successful album and reached #11 in the US. The band kickstarts the album with the rocker "Toys in the Attic." Dual guitar riffs, rolling bass. Aggressive vocals repeating the title. An edge to the guitar sound and searing solos. About going crazy in a ripping song. "Walking This Way" was inspired by a "Young Frankenstein" scene where Marty Feldman, "Igor," tells Gene Wilder to follow him and "walk this way" and he does, limp and all. I remember that scene. A drum roll with the snare leads to that famous guitar riff. Tyler comes in essentially rapping. The song has a groove. A classic chorus and a few guitar solos. A classic rock song about a boy losing his virginity. Speaking of classic rock songs, side two opens with "Sweet Emotion." Bassist Tom Hamilton came up with the bass riff, which begins the song, in high school. The chorus of sweet emotion are the first vocals. A hard edge guitar riff. It's a jealously song about Tyler's acrimonious relationship with his-then wife, Elyssa, who's stealing his best friend. An outstanding deeper cut is "No More No More." A melodic guitar intro and the band kicks in along with a piano. A no more no more chorus. Perry with some fantastic guitar work including a two-minute solo which ends the song. Everything works in this song about life on the road. The album ends with "You See Me Crying," a piano ballad which foreshadows their later 80's musical tilt. A symphony too. There's a bluesy, "Stonesy" tone and swagger which pervade this album and that's a very good thing. The band is confident and tight. Perry and Whitfield's guitars are top-notched. Two classic rock songs, a couple of great lesser-played songs and no fillers. The mix is great with every instrument clearly heard. Tyler has the perfect voice for this music. This is a great album!!! This album and their next album "Rocks" are must hears for any rock fan.
Quintessential Aerosmith. Nothing more needs to be added.
Classic in every sense of the word. The songs sound as fresh today as when they were originally released.
I mean, for real this is another legendary band. Walk this Way, Sweet Emotion. Rock legends. Classic Songs that are always in any good list.
Great album!
Favourite tracks - Toys In The Attic, Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion
Truly classic Aerosmith.
Loved this.
This is the 152nd album I’m rating. I’ve always liked Aerosmith but I’ve really only heard their hits. Adding to my Playlist - Toys in the Attic, Uncle Salty, Adam’s Apple, Walk this Way, Big Ten Inch Record, Sweet Emotion, No more no more, Round and Round, and You see me Crying. Not Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. Walk this Way - This song feels very nostalgic and I’m not sure why because nobody around me really liked Aerosmith. All in all I liked 9/9 songs. Just some nice classic rock for July 4th.
A rock and roll classic, now half a century old! If you haven't known at least half of these songs for most of your life, you haven't been listening to rock!
Great album!
Great 1970-1980 band.
I forgot how bluezy they were. It is more like a 4.5 but I rounded up. I did have a good time listening to it.
The album that proved Aerosmith were a band to be reckoned with! All rock-n-roll with enough new twists to solidify their place in the pantheon
classic album with two major banger hits
Is this the consummate Aerosmith rock album? Maybe. Everyone who listens to rock music needs to listen to this album.
Wow this kicked absolute ass. A little bit of every genre too and the songwriting was super great. The bass playing is off the charts and Steven Tyler is an incredible front man
Love it
A tamer Tyler and the desire to bend genres created a dynamic album. David Lee Roth and U2 were probably influenced by this one.
4.5
yeah i like aerosmith (thank you rock n roller coaster). “walk this way” is always a classic! “big ten inch record” is clearly ahead of its time. “you see me crying” was MAJESTIC. fun album. engaging listen. brought back good memories (thank you rock n roller coaster). 5/5.
Walk this way and get the toys in the attic while I get out my 10 inch record and spin it round and round while you share my sweet emotion!
Rock and roll is awesome.
Great album, but Steven Tyler is a wrong ‘un
I love the Round n Round song, among others :)
Great
Amazing, went in skeptically and was instantly rocking out
This hard rock album still holds up and there isn't a bad song in the whole lot.
Classic!
A little restraint, both in his singing and in his dick, is good for Steven Tyler. Allowing the rest of the band to be as powerful as the lead singer makes for a MUCH stronger Aerosmith album.
Rocking album. Even though some of it comes close to formulaic hard rock, they were ahead of the curve and also have a very unique sound - you hear a song and you know it's Aerosmith (and not just because of Steven Tyler's voice). So, gotta give them their due. Also, the guitar playing is outstanding, so kudos to Joe Perry (and Brad Whitford where applicable). "You See Me Crying" is a little cheesy - never really been a fan of Aerosmith's over the top ballads - but the instrumental outro is pretty good so I can say it's pretty much a great album start to finish. And, yeah, the word "sleazy" does come to mind for a lot of the lyrics, but it just rocks. If I could give Ice Cube a 5 despite the misogyny, surely I can do the same here despite the sleaze. Favorite tracks: Uncle Salty (especially the "it's a sunny day" part - cool sound), Walk This Way (which I first became familiar with through the Run-DMC version!), Sweet Emotion (classic, with those unique Aerosmith stylings), Round and Round.
Yeah - Classic "Hard" Rock
classic rock album
Classic
5/5 Classic Classic-Rock album. So many GREATS: Walk this Way, Sweet Emotion, Big Ten Inch, Toys in the Attic!
LP
Makes me sad to think about where this band ended up later in their musical career. This album has some great rock songs.
I actually already own this record on vinyl. It is hands down their best albums. Toys in the Attic, Uncle Salty, Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way, Big Ten Inch Record...phenomenal record. Favourite songs: Big Ten Inch Record, Sweet Emotion, Toys in the Attic, Walk This Way, Uncle Salty, Round and Round Least favourite songs: none. This album is flawless 5/5
What a damned solid rock and roll album this is. Just boogie and blues and sleaze and fun. Familiar with the hits of course, but the other tracks hold up alongside. You can hear the DNA emerging of some of their smashes in the 80's/90's. (Especially the album's closer.) Tom Hamilton's also one of the most underrated bass players in history. Like Duff McKagan was for GnR, Hamilton holds the whole mess together. Unexpected bangers: Big Ten Inch Record, Round and Round, You See Me Crying.
Re Aearosmith I go with consensus and rate Toys in The Attic and Rocks as their best albums.
I feel 15 years old again! Some of Aerosmith's songs are immortalized in my life and it was a pleasant surprise to re-listen to Toys in The Attic. Classics like Walk The Line and Sweet Emotion were part of the soundtrack of my adolescence and I still get goosebumps listening to them today. Easy 5 Stars!
Best Aerosmith album. Although I do like Rocks too. But this s the classic one.
I love this album!!!
How could it not be a 5-star album.
Favourite tracks: toys in the attic; walk this way; sweet emotion; big ten inch record
CLASSIC ROCK CLASSIC ROCK CLASSIC ROCK. What a fantastic album.
Rock at it's best
i'll tell ya what, aerosmith made some great bops together! toys in the attic has aerosmith in their prime--i don't think that can be argued. each of these songs individually are so good and stand on their own, even the non-singles. that has to be because of the backing instrumentation--steven tyler's vocals are unique though incomprehesible, but the band's work is so evident because it's so tight. the guitar intro to "walk this way"? iconic because it is genuinely good. i was indoctrinated as an aerosmith fan in my youth, but i had no clue that "big ten inch record" was actually a cover. to compare it to the original was fascinating. it's r&b but has a blues feel, which might seem out of place for aerosmith but isn't! "uncle salty" as the second song on the album is even more blues rock, so it all comes full circle. (aerosmith fans will see what i did there.) but, of course, they really are most at home with their hard rock.
Great energy
I should have listened to this sooner, it was better than I expected and I had a fun workout with this playing
my favorite Aerosmith album! Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler music videos are cool and all but this is their best era.
One of the best
Muy bueno.
Damn! I did not know Aerosmith ran this deep! This album is incredible. Fun, dark at times, every song is pulling its weight. Absolutely no fat to be trimmed on Toys In The Attic
No one compares to the bad boys from Boston!! Only time I’ve listened to the album multiple times in one day
I haven't heard that whole album since I was a teenager. It totally holds up!
Released in 1975, Aerosmith's Toys in the Attic marked a turning point for the band. It solidified their hard rock sound, established their signature songwriting style, and propelled them into mainstream success. This review delves into the album's lyrics, music, production, themes, and influence, while highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. Lyrics: Themes: The album explores a range of themes, with a heavy focus on sexuality and rebellion. Tracks like "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" depict raw teenage lust and desire, while "No Surprize" criticizes conformity and societal expectations. "Adam's Apple" delves into the complexities of religious faith, while "Spaced" explores psychedelic experiences. Style: Steven Tyler's lyrics are witty, playful, and often laced with double entendres. He utilizes strong imagery and storytelling, drawing listeners into the narratives with characters and scenarios. However, some might find the constant focus on sex somewhat juvenile and repetitive. Music: Genre: Toys in the Attic blends elements of blues rock, hard rock, and heavy metal. Joe Perry's distinctive guitar riffs are a highlight, driving the energy and creating an instantly recognizable sound. The rhythm section, anchored by Tom Hamilton's bass and Joey Kramer's drums, provides a solid and dynamic foundation. Songwriting: The album showcases a significant leap in songwriting maturity compared to their previous work. Songs like "Toys in the Attic" and "No Surprize" demonstrate a strong grasp of melody, structure, and dynamics. However, some tracks like "Uncle Salty" veer towards meandering instrumentals, potentially losing listener engagement. Production: Produced by Jack Douglas, the album boasts a raw, energetic, and unpolished sound. This rawness is a defining characteristic of Aerosmith's early sound, reflecting their live energy and capturing their raw talent. While the production might sound dated compared to modern standards, it contributes to the album's overall charm and authenticity. Themes: Adolescence and Rebellion: The album heavily explores themes associated with adolescence, focusing on teenage rebellion, sexual awakening, and the struggle against societal norms. This resonates deeply with young listeners, establishing a strong connection with the band. Duality: Tracks like "Sweet Emotion" grapple with the contrasting nature of love and desire, showcasing a duality that adds depth to the album's emotional landscape. Influence: Hard Rock Pioneers: Toys in the Attic played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of hard rock in the 1970s. Aerosmith's influence is evident in countless bands that followed, including Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, and Bon Jovi. Crossover Appeal: The album's blend of blues rock and hard rock, along with catchy hooks and relatable themes, helped Aerosmith achieve mainstream success. Their unique sound paved the way for other hard rock bands to cross over into commercial popularity. Pros: Groundbreaking sound: The album's innovative blend of genres and raw energy solidified Aerosmith's place as pioneers of hard rock. Memorable songwriting: Catchy melodies, strong hooks, and engaging lyrics contribute to the album's lasting appeal. Cultural impact: The album's influence on both hard rock and popular music is undeniable, leaving a lasting legacy on the genre. Cons: Repetitive lyrical themes: The album's constant focus on sex can become monotonous for some listeners, reducing its thematic depth. Uneven pacing: While some tracks deliver high-octane energy, others can feel meandering, potentially impacting the album's overall flow. Dated production: The raw production style, while charming, might not resonate with listeners accustomed to modern audio quality. Conclusion: Toys in the Attic is a landmark album in hard rock history. Its raw energy, innovative sound, and catchy songwriting propelled Aerosmith to superstardom. While some might find the lyrical themes and production value dated, the album's influence and undeniable musical power solidify its place as a classic. With its blend of rebellious spirit, bluesy swagger, and rock and roll energy, Toys in the Attic remains a captivating listen for fans of hard rock and classic rock alike.
My first concert’s first song was Sweet Emotion and to this day I can still see Joe Perry with that crazy Peter Frampton mouth thing playing the opening and whipping it away when the rest of the band kicks in. Great moment and this album is full of them. Classic for a reason.
Great album. The Aerosmith albums produced by Jack Douglas were pure rockers This was the best of them. A front to back play through always growing up. Unfortunately Aerosmith like J Geils and ZzTop got sucked into the MTV video money grab and became very formulaic and lost the raw rocking that the earlier albums had
Awesome album! Collection worthy.
Excellent funky rock. A solid album going beyond the fun and into some serious arrangements in songwriting. This is Aerosmith at their peak
Great album, great memories. Fun to listen to the whole thing instead of the "best of" for a change!
I've listened to this album a bunch of times. Aerosmith was my favorite band for a long time when I was a kid, until I got to high school probably. This album is an absolute banger. Top notch instrumentation, great vocals, decent production. Two all time classic songs - the guitar work on Walk This Way is undeniably brilliant but I think as I've grown up it's probably one of my least favorite songs on the album. I've always loved some of the less well known songs on this record - Uncle Salty, Adam's Apple, Round and Round, You See Me Crying. Personal issues with various band members aside, it's hard not to love this. I'll always have a soft spot for this band, they were instrumental in building my love of music as a kid. So this album gets a 5/5 from me.
Grew up with this album gotta love it
Masterpiece!
Great album!
A rocking album, "Toys In The Attic," definitely earned its spot on this list. Steven Tyler is an iconic frontman and an incredible vocalist. Joe Perry shreds on the guitar. Aerosmith's collaboration with Run-DMC on "Walk This Way" created a new fusion of music and broke color barriers. Jennifer Aniston's dance to "Sweet Emotion" in "We're the Millers" is enchanting. Bonus points for having a Big Ten Inch (record).
This is a no-brainer, 5-star album for me. It's arguably Aerosmith's best album (or Rocks from 1976). A perfect mix of Stones and Zeppelin, and so much feel to it. Awesome stuff! Extremely surprised by how many people don't like this, but oh well....to each their own! Favorite tracks: ALL of them.
Great old music! It was great listening again.
Classic Rock. Classics: Walk this Way, Sweet Emotion, Big Ten Inch Record, You See Me Crying Standouts: Toys in the Attic, Uncle Salty. 4.5
Great - loved it. I only recognized one song (that I could sing to) but apparently I like Aerosmith because I enjoyed album from beg to end!
A good listen. I like Aerosmith but haven't listened to this album in a long while - I have now listened to it on repeat. I forgot how good it is.
THe energy, the guitar, no wonder it's a classic. Love the rythm Aerosmith was on during the period which produced other awesome albums too!
Still a great album. So many favorites on this one.
When they were badass. I've owned this lp since the 80's. This whole thing is great. Steven Tyler is phenomenal on this. Confidence and swagger on every track. A long time favourite.
Such a good Aerosmith album. Sweet Emotion, Toys in the Attic, and Walk this Way are all iconic.
Forgot I knew all the words to Sweet Emotion.
Solid album. Not just a few singles/hits with filler.
A classic. This is their best album. This album's detractors are mostly by people who can't stand it that these guys wrote their own music, actually played their own instruments, and didn't use backing tracks when playing live. It's called "classic" rock for a reason. If you can't rock out to "Sweet Emotion", then you don't deserve to have functioning eardrums.
never really gave aerosmith a proper shot but I should've known I'd enjoy this this much just based on how much I love the start of Dazed and Confused. Awesome album just nothing but fun the whole way through, even if it's a little too horny
11/17/23 10:45 S Tier————————— 5/5 Sweet Emotion Walk This Way Toys In The Attic Adam’s Apple A Tier—————————4/5 Big Ten Inch Record No More No More Uncle Salty Round and Round You See Me Crying
Loved it Front to back really good Favorite songs: toys in the attic, walk this way, sweet emotions
- Great album, makes me think of my times playing Aerosmith Guitar Hero - Favorite tracks: Toys in the Attic, Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, Big Ten Inch Record
Interesting to hear the blues elements mixed in with a great American rock album. Sweet Emotion is an all-time great track.
Last night I tried to tease her I gave my love a little pinch She said now stop that jivin' Now whip out your big ten inch Record of a band that plays the blues Well a band that plays the blues She just loves my big ten inch Record of her favorite blues 5/5
Really good. There's no bad songs here and there's 2 songs almost back to back that are classics. I will say tho the album art is a little bit hideous looking
Maybe I shouldn't be surprised because it's Aerosmith, but this album is straight bangers start to finish. Toys in the attic and you see me crying are IMO a perfect opening anx closing track. While this isn't my favorite genre of rock, I cannot find a reason to give this less than a perfect score. Truly the best of Aerosmith. My favorite track was Uncle salty
In high school and college, I almost exclusively listened to classic rock and eighties music. I enjoyed Aerosmith back then, but over the past few years, I've really soured on them. I'm not sure if it's the sexual assault allegations against Steven Tyler (another incident literally came out today), or if their sound hand just grown old on me. Either way, I wasn't looking forward to any of the three Aerosmith albums on this list (I've already gotten Pump, which I surprisingly enjoyed). But just like Pump, I enjoyed Toys in the Attic. I'd always heard that this was a great classic rock album, but I never got around to listening to all of it during my heavy classic rock days. The guitar riffs are absolutely fantastic; Joe Perry's guitar playing has such a distinct sound, and it's present throughout this album. There are moments of brilliance for other bits of instrumentation on this album as well: the bassline on "Sweet Emotion" coupled with the vibraphone helps to create a unique blues rock sound, and the piano parts on "Round and Round" and "You See Me Crying" were fantastic as well. "Sweet Emotion" is my favorite song by Aerosmith, and one of my favorite classic rock songs overall. I've already mentioned my love for the bassline, but the guitar riff after each verse is incredible as well. I'm not a big fan of "Walk This Way," but I'll admit that it's catchy, and I certainly can't deny its influence in the grand scheme of popular music. "Uncle Salty" felt like a thematic predecessor to Pump's "Janie's Got A Gun," with its story of abuse perpetrated by a child's guardian; it's kind of odd hearing Aerosmith sing about something so serious and taboo in a way, but I think this song really sticks the landing. Sure, the sexual crudeness "Big Ten Inch Record" and "Adam's Apple" are probably not going to land with a lot of people, especially with the allegations against Steven Tyler these days. However, I'll take crude double entendres over lyrics with overt misogyny or unwanted sexual advances any day of the week. I think one of my favorite things about listening to the two Aerosmith albums that I've heard so far, is that the band can do upbeat, loud, and fast paced songs really well, but they can also slow things down and get serious just as well. They did such a great job of taking blues rock and making their own distinct version of it. This isn't an album that I'll be itching to listen to in its entirety again, but I think it's worthy of a five star rating, because I believe it's genuinely good piece of music, and it's had a lasting impact on popular music and culture. Steven Tyler, though: you get one star.
A great album. Every track is top class.
fun
Absolute banger from 1 - 9. Great rock time capsule.
Reminds me of my childhood. Nice balance of fast pace and slow melody. Enjoyable, and now I'm listening to classic rock again of my own free will.
HELL YES, my favorite Aerosmith album. Toys is a classic opener, the Hits go hard, and I can't wait to see em live in January. Hopefully Steven doesn't hurt himself again screaming too loud before the show.... Dudes got froggy lips, a big mouth, and can scream like a psychopath.
Very nice
Old fashioned 70s rock! Besides the obvious hits, Uncle Salty and Big Ten Inch Record don’t disappoint. You can tell by these songs they were still a little rough around the edges, but then you hit Sweet Emotion and you remember why they are legends. I like the roller coaster in Disney to.
Oh, yes! This is a great album. I guess I forgot how great...but, no, actually now that I think of it, I think that I simply appreciate it more now than when I was younger, because I recall thinking that it was good, but I don't know about great...until now.
This one's on my top shelf. A desert-island-disc. A favorite of all favorites. heart-heart-heart
Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way have been favorite songs of mine ever since I heard the cool kids at the back of the bus playing them on my daily ride to junior high. They’re joined here by 7 more tracks that I enjoyed hearing. I was sort of surprised when I heard You See Me Crying. I had kind of assumed that the softer, orchestral side of Aerosmith was something they aged into in the 90s, yet here we are in 1975 with this lovely track. Aerosmith at their finest!
I love Aerosmith, I had heard this album many times before
Brought back many memories of Senior year in HS for me.
4.5
nice
Never gets old
Incredibly interesting and very catchy Wow
Timeless! Really great music
holy shit. this is awsome. ive always loved walk this way but never listened to the album for fear it wouldn't be as good. boy was i wrong
Great classic album with some notable hit tracks.
ROCKS
This sets the standard for a perfect album. Fantastic songs, masterfully constructed, creative arrangements — great use of horns, strings, and a freaking triangle in addition to the expert performances by the five band members. I remember playing this for Scott years ago and him asking, "Is this a best-of album?" In a sense, I guess it is, but no... this is a band putting out a masterpiece. The guitars on this album are flawless. Amazing tones, great interplay, super cool (and timeless) riffs, phenomenal bluesy-boozy vibe, never flashy — just dead on. This album influenced me greatly as a drummer, not only for the iconic opening to "Walk This Way," but just as a template for how to write and play drum parts that fit the song and that are musical — Joey Kramer and Ringo sit high atop the list of rock drummers who do that best. Lyrically, there's some goofiness — love the sense of humor. This was a time when Steven Tyler was still capable of introspection — always interesting and often playful. And vocally, every choice is a winner. It's unfortunate that Tyler devolved into a distasteful lech (he can be really disgusting), because here, before the drugs and comeback and subsequent loss of touch, he is the quintessential bad-ass rock 'n roll frontman who sings like no one else on the planet. I love it. And the pacing and length of the album is just right. A band in its prime in every sense. Fun note: On "Sweet Emotion," there's a vibraslap (first heard at the :05 mark). The thing breaks at the :23 mark. The band (or more likely producer Jack Douglas) kept the sound on the record. Just an indication that even when things went wrong during this recording, they were just right.
Great album with a bunch of hits on it. I had given this one a listen nearly 20 years ago because I was reading that Kurt Cobain biography Heavier Than Heaven and this album was listed as one of Kurt’s favourite growing up.
I expected to be a little bored outside of Sweet Emotion and maybe Walk this way, but that was actually a lot of fun! Varied, bluesy, consistently well paced and phrased. Much better than expected. Five Stars.
Yesss I love Aerosmith The energy The harmonies The rounds The rock WALK THIS WAY A blues song?! Sweet sweet emotion 5/5
This was probably one of the best albums i got on here. Super good
Sounds like driving with the windows down on a perfect day. Best track: Sweet Emotion
muy buen disco
Great album, few big hits but even besides those, every other song "belongs" and is a great rock song
Not really an Aerosmith fan but I can’t deny that this is absolutely amazing.
One of my all-time favourite albums. There are the hits, Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way etc., but then you get things like You See Me Crying, which is a massive showcase for each band member. The title song, or No More No More. It's more than just a great collection of songs. It holds together as a great album.
The Rolling Stones with added humour. When they get it right, it's brilliant. The unplugged version of Big Ten Inch is way better though, as is the Walk This Way collaboration with Run DMC. But these versions are still great - I've had this album on repeat all day and it's still growing on me.
Sweet Emotion, Walk this way
A solid album with some excellent tracks.
Really interesting. Not my cup of tea but I appreciate it
The best Aerosmith record, hands down. Rocking, catchy, and it doesn't overstay its welcome. The real hits are divvied up throughout the album nicely so you're never left in a lull. Steven Tyler's vocals are top notch and probably the best they were in his tenure with the band. When I'm looking for quality rock, this is one of the albums I will always turn to.
Boys go fanatic
I don't know why I don't listen to more Aerosmith
Aerosmith is the shit
Walk this way is the song on this album
Fun listen
My first listen from this album was “Big Ten Inch Record” over at my friend Damon Marco’s house. Even at the tender age of 11, I got the joke. My friends and I all thought it was the coolest song ever recorded and always made the effort to play it out of earshot of our parents. The rest of the album grew on us too. Two mega hits, a couple of closet classics and solid Rock n Roll throughout. The guitars on Round and Round have a Sweet Sabbath vibe. Also great that Run DMC originally thought the name of this band was “Toys in the Attic”… Easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Classic
Завершающая баллада You See Me Crying отходит от позитивного вайба всего альбома.
Cool album! Every track feels unique and special. I'd previously only heard Aerosmiths hits, but that should include this entire album. The only weakness I feel the album has is the opening title track. It feels a little uninspired imo. Otherwise a VERY solid release.
Discazo. Songs: Round and Round, No More No More, Adam´s Apple, Big Ten Inch Record
Good album with some recognizable tunes!
Особую радость вызывает заключительная песня на альбоме - You See Me Crying. Toys In The Attic (No More No More, You See Me Crying) и стоящие особняком Walk This Way и Sweet Emotion (по моему мнению, лучшие вещи на альбоме). Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, You See Me Crying.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. I grew up listening to this, and it makes my heart happy.
Ah, absolutely classic dirty R&B. Channels peak Stones from a few years earlier and if "Sweet Emotion" doesn't get you grooving round the house / in the car, well, I can't help you.
Love some Aerosmith
Very different than later Aerosmith.
Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion? Take my 5 stars. One of the best works from Aerosmith. And Round And Round is super stoner, I never realized it!
Ho boy. That's a blast from the past. One of the first rock albums my best friend introduced me to. This is when I found out Run DMC didn't write Walk This Way. Sweet Emotion rocked my 15 year old musical world. Good, straight forward, rock and roll. Love it.
really enjoyed this album. Walk This Way is always a great song.
Good one, plenty of iconic riffs and compositions overall
Ummm, classic album that is terrific!
Brilliant!
Great
Much better than I expected
Liked the last half of the album a lot more!
Listo
I’m heavily biased since Aerosmith was a big part of my early teen years, but this albums great. Even “Big Ten Inch Record”slaps even though I absolutely detest the lyrics. Really solid classic rock album. Favorite Tracks: “Toys In The Attic,” “Uncle Salty,” “Walk This Way,” and “Sweet Emotion”
Great classic rock vibes. Good bangers. Fun time.
Wow Balls
yesss
Love it - classic.
There were a few I already knew so I skipped them, though I also only liked one of those. One that I didn't know but which completely passed me by. But everything else was definitely worth the listen.
Back when Aerosmith was a proper rock band, plus 2 all-timers
big ten inch record is what they called me in high school
Really really good, but not my Cup of tea:)
Favorite Track: Sweet Emotion
This is a classic. So much fun. Even the more country/blues stuff is great. Actual Rating...4.5 Liked Songs: Toys In The Attic" , "Adam's Apple" , "Walk This Way" , "Big Ten Inch Record" , "Sweet Emotion" , "No More No More" , "You See Me Crying
Pretty solid front to back as far as Aerosmith goes
Very fun!
4.5
Historically i've only given Aerosmith one four and a half star album and this isn't the one. But it is a great album It's especially the middle section with the three big songs right in a row "Walk This Way" "Big 10" Record" & "Sweet Emotion". The latter being my all time favorite 'smith song. Couple of great tracks back it up, mainly towards the end round and round is probably one of the few songs where I think that they really lean into the "American Zeppelin" sound they were often criticize. But I really dug it. And I never really thought about it before until I was just listening to this but the closing track "You See Me Crying" to me really has more of the feel of resurgent Aerosmith. If it was given a late 80s early 90s polish it would sit nicely on *Pump* or *Grip* (8.85) ★★★★
I think Aerosmith is somewhat overrated among bands in rock history, but they do put it all together on this album. The songs are rocking and there's some great guitar riffs courtesy of Perry and Whitford, but the songwriting is still really good with some memorable hooks. It's kind of the definitive 70s hard rock album. This will make you want to crack open a can of Blatz on a hot summer day. Some real classics hear including the title track, "Walk this Way", and "Sweet Emotion", but even the deeper cuts like "Adam's Apple", "No More No More" and "You See Me Crying" are pretty great. 4.5 stars.
10/10 album cover. This is one instalment of Toy Story I’d like to see. Typically I’m not so much of an Aerosmith fan - bit screechy, a bit hit and miss. I’d generally rather just have a big box of Aero choccies and some albums by The Smiths but this is great stuff. Soundwise it is typically proper vintage and awesome 100% pure uncut 70s classic rock and with a handful of true all-timers like Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion and the title track. Strong 4.
....
Great rock album. Sweet Emotion has an all time great song into.
Hyvvää rokkia
Added a point for Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. Took one off for the Ten Inch nonsense. Ah heck, they never took life too seriously, which is good. I'm rounding up to four for the flouncy scarves.
This is #day654 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… sometimes there's just nothing better than good old '70s hard rock. It's been quite a while since I last got an Aerosmith record, 564 days, to be precise. If there's an album by this band to hear before you die, Toys in the Attic is one of the candidates. It's a good collection of tunes from a band in its prime, not without a couple of flaws, though. Still, there's "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion." This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day655.
3.6/5.
Sweet emotion is my favorite Aerosmith song. Such a great bass line. And there are lots of other great tracks on here like the original Walk This Way, Adam's Apple and the title track. It meanders a bit at points and the cover of Big Ten Inch Record is a something that would not be amiss on a Spinal Tap album.
Album #99, Aerosmith, Toys in the Attic, ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am, for all intents and purposes, a bit of a music snob, especially when it comes to my dear old rock and roll, though I am trying hard not to be these days. So when something like Aerosmith comes up in the generator, I kind of cringe a little and instantly come in with a dismissive preconception. Super successful, ultra-popular rock band who I’ve actually never listened to… why would I be interested in that? What a stupid thought. Turns out these bands are popular for a reason, because they’re actually really, really good. This was much, much better than I thought it was going to be. Outside of the big hits, I’d never really listened to Aerosmith before, and this wasn’t nearly as stock rock sounding as I expected. They actually come across as a bit of a chameleon band here. They can slip into all sorts of styles. They can do Beatles-esque, vaguely Canterbury-flavoured English pop rock. They can do Rolling Stones swagger. They can do the good time blues. They can do heavy riff-driven hard rock. And they manage to mix all of that together while maintaining a really strong atmosphere and tone throughout most of the record. It’s pretty much all very good, with a couple of exceptions. Sweet Emotion is an absolute belter, a belter to end all belters. One of the best hard rock songs I’ve heard. And when it’s followed by the Stones-esque No More No More, which is also brilliant, the album genuinely starts to feel a little transcendent. I was thinking at that point, this thing has just gone from strength to strength and will take off for the finale. Unfortunately, it fumbles quite badly at the end for me. Round and Round is exactly the kind of stock rock tune I thought the entire album was going to sound like. I found it pretty uninteresting. And then the closer, You See Me Crying, feels like they’re aiming for that huge, emotional English rock closer, something in the vein of A Day in the Life or Moonlight Mile, but for whatever reason it just doesn’t quite land. It lacks the hooks that the rest of the album has in abundance. Also, maybe this is just me, but does the production quality dip on those last two tracks? The final stretch sounds noticeably weaker to my ears, to the point where it actually made me question the rest of the record a little bit. But I’m going to give it the benefit of the doubt rather than immediately relistening, because I genuinely enjoyed so much of what came before it. I think this is a great record. Great riffs, great atmosphere. I also really like how Steven Tyler is relatively low in the mix. Even though he’s a great vocalist, it makes the album feel more like it’s about the whole band rather than just him, and the riffs really get room to shine because of that. So yeah, very surprised, very happy, and I really enjoyed this one.
An impressive array of 70s classic rock songwriting & performance. That being said, I feel like this album already came up on here for me. Glitch?
can't go wrong with aerosmith. excellent album, signature sound, entertaining lyrics & cohesive but distinct individual songs. a classic
To the point, no dubs and a few bangers (walk this way and sweet emotion obviously but also round and round (and you see me crying lowkenuinly?!)
I’m not a huge Aerosmith fan but this one is good. Second best behind Rocks to me.
banger classic rock album!
Solid rock album with a few classics. I’m judging the music and not the people behind the music guys. It’s like hating on Wagner (who wrote some of the most amazing western music ever) cuz he was an anti-semite and was Hitlers favorite composer. It is possible to separate that from the music. 🙄
Aerosmith got kinda cringe later but this earlier stuff is good. Very Zeppelin-y.
Vildt Cool album! Standouts: Walk This Way - Needs no introduction. Energisk banger Sweet Emotion - nice hooky riff og interessante lydeffekter (voicebox og reversed audio) You See Me Crying - Nok den sang der overraskede mig mest.
quite good
The two big hits here...oooh boy (Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion). Some other good songs scattered about (e.g., title track is fantastic) with some pretty run-of-the-mill songs as well (e.g., Round and Round was yuck). Above 3.5 but not quite 4...but rounding up here.
Good
I’ve never understood the intense dislike for Aerosmith’s music. I’ve always liked it. They’re not my favorite band, but they play good rock and roll.
Good stuff
I really enjoyed this album. I like Aerosmith's music in general anyway. There were no weak tracks, the sort you instantly press skip when you hear the first few notes, and to me that is one of the signs of a great album.
Aerosmith is THEE classic rock group imo and I’m sorry but it does slap. loved manifesting my middle aged dad energy with this album with the windows rolled down in 87° weather
Objectively good. Slightly boring. I want to strangle the bassist for "Sweet Emotion". I liked it.
This an excellent record by a band that later became super cheesy
Pretty good album. Had a lot of fun with it, some really great instrumentals too.
lit as hell
Het album draait om Walk this way.
Packed with classics. The best of 70s guitar-based hard rock. Steven Tyler’s vocals are also exceptional. Expect what the F is with Big 10 Inch Record? Cheeky, but it’s out of place here n this album.
I can't believe they covered Run DMC
This is some kinda rockabilly album, imho great in background, obv still have some of the greatest track in rock history.
Classic Aerosmith. I'd say this is peak Aerosmith, for whatever that's worth. Uncle Salty is such a cool jam. Walk This Way is a classic. Sweet Emotion is epic. The rest of the album holds up.
Really enjoyed this. Super punchy no filler. No indulgent guitar solos. Pleasantly surprised
Peak Aerosmith
Early Aerosmith. Fun jams and familiar tunes es. Another bar band made into arena rock.
Great album that had groove and sounded superb. I enjoyed listening this one and will definitely save this up on my playlist. Best song was Sweet Emotion.
Aerosmith's later stuff is a bit silly/gimmicky sometimes (haha rich coming from someone who loves The Darkness) but I found this to be bluesy and solid. Really enjoyed it. No More No More is my favourite track. Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way are the big hits obviously. Otherwise just a pretty solid record from a solid band.
Rv
Probably their best work. Stones meets glam rock.
I'm not the biggest Aerosmith fan, but it's undeniable how good "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" are. Just those songs alone make this a good album. I was surprised with some of the more bluesy songs (if you can call them that) on here. A bit more of a mix up than I was expecting. Overall, a good album from a band that I'm not that crazy about.
Sweet Emotion, I mean c'mon! An all-timer for radio rock that still goes hard in 2026. While that's definitely the high point, it's still a good ole 70s rock and roll album and a fun listen.
Generally enjoyable blues-ish rock with enough songs that break the mold and elevate it in "Toys In The Attic," "Walk This Way," "Sweet Emotion" and "Round and Round." Good stuff!
This album was written like a mile from where i am standing right now
Not my fave of theirs, but good.
Walk this way and sweet emotion carry the album
Good
Big Ten Inch Record for the five star miss.
Crazy that Sweet Emotion wasn't the album opener. It's literally right there. Either way, a good old school bluesy rock album that is a peek at what Aerosmith would evolve into. I think Pump is a better album from what we've had on this list, but still a great listen.
About what you’d expect
Aerosmith annoys but I think there’s some great tracks on here.
Didn't think I'd like it honestly, even though I really like "Walk This Way" because sometimes that classic rock is boring, but it's good! FAVORTES: Adam's apple: At first I didn't like it but then I realized it actually had some cool riffs and a cool melody. Walk this Way, Sweet Emotion: Classics Big Ten Inch Record: This song is really funny
This is a favorite that I haven’t heard in a while.
I'm actually kind of shocked how much I enjoyed this. I generally enjoy Aerosmith's singles, but after getting Pump awhile back, I was actually shocked by how much I disliked the album as a whole. So I didn't have high hopes for this. But I was wrong. This is such a strong album top to bottom. "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" are the obvious hits, and are great of course, but "You See Me Crying" might be the best song on the album and is definitely up there for me for favorite Aerosmith song. This is a really well rounded record and shows they're more than just a singles band.
I never listened to Aerosmith before 1986 (introduced to them through Run DMCs Walk This Way) and immediately bought this album on cassette. So a lot of it is nostalgia, but I spent a lot of time cruising while listening to this.
Walk this way!
Good album, would listen again
This is a great album that I actually own. "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" are obviously the classics. "Toys In The Attic" is a solid opener. "Uncle Salty" reminds me of "St. John" from Permanent Vacation. "10 Inch Record" is of course somewhat tongue in cheek. The other songs are not as memorable but nothing lacking here. This is top form Aerosmith.
A full on rockin' album. Some real classics and some rock fillers. Worth a listen. 4/5
You know what, this is the second album by Aerosmith on his list and I would now say I'm a fan. Not as good as the other one but still very good
Overall Rating - 3.61/5 (7.22/10). Very much a singles band not an album band. Outside of the title track, those songs that aren't the big singles are fairly forgettable.
It rocks pretty hard.
Maybe it’s just nostalgic, but I like this one! Good gym music
After listening to The Velvet Underground, jumping to Toys in the Attic was such a shock that it honestly made me laugh. The difference in scale, energy, and attitude is striking. But Walk This Way is, unsurprisingly, just pure fun. I had actually seen Steven Tyler singing at Ozzy’s Back to the Beginning show 2025, and hearing this album really made me aware of how long his career has been.
Some big songs
Sick record, has the hits, but other albums of theirs are better.
Great! A true rock classic. Love Big 10 inch Record!!!
Aerosmith are very enjoyable. I don’t think this is quite their best but it’s a lot of fun.
Classic album, enjoyed it
Classic 70s hard rock. Essential.
early classic from a long-lived band.
not normally into aerosmith but i liked this a lot more than i thought i would. based on how much i already liked sweet emotion i shouldn’t have been surprised 4.5
i mean it’s hard not to like this album. it’s good; it’s solid. you can’t listen to sweet emotion without thinking of dazed and confused, which is such a fabulous movie. i personally love “You See Me Crying”, but all of the songs are great. an enjoyable listen!
I like Aerosmith as long as I don't listen to the lyrics.
Uneven album but the highs are remarkable!
A lot of classics on this one.
Største hard rock band i slut 70’erne i usa. Rigtig godt album
classic.
Five stars for Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way, and Toys In the Attic. One star for Big Ten Inch Record. Three stars for everything else. In the last several apartment buildings I've lived in, there is an elevator voice that says "going down" and 90% of the time I think of "going dow-ow-ow-own" from Love in an Elevator, and I think there's no higher honor for a band to be that eternally unavoidable in a listener's life.
Really good all round album. Sweet emotion is one of the greatest rock songs of all time and is classic. I really liked you see me crying which I’d never heard before. Toys in the chest was also pretty good and walk this way is iconic.
Loistava levy, pitää kuunnella lisää vanhempaa Aerosmithia. 4/5.
Very good blues rock. Missing a little something to make it 5 star great.
Walk This Way and give this big Ten Inch Record a listen.
Aerosmith are not my favourite band, though I like them just fine. Their style of music is not my favourite, though I don’t have a problem with it. That all seems to be a perfect recipe for a decidedly average score. However Toys in the Attic is better than average. ”Round and Round” is average. The rest is well written, well performed and with energy, ambition, fun and a knowing self-awareness that allows them to avoid taking themselves too seriously (a trait I find extremely welcome in a band). I enjoy some of their later albums and I’m sure there are more to come in the 1001, but I don’t think they’ll surpass this.
Good record, not amazing. I really like Aerosmith, always have. They have a ton of great songs and a few are on this record in Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way. There just wasn’t enough on the rest of this album to make it amazing. Still, it’s solid and worth the listen.
Enjoyed it! I didnt realized Aerosmith started out so bluesy
I like Uncle Salty, very catchy do you think Shania Twain was a big fan of this song or just the opening riff? Apparently part of Feel Like a Woman is an homage to Aerosmith. This album is tight, and it flows well. They knew how to write songs, I appreciate that the drummer/guitarist/instrumentalists in general don't do too much, especially in the versus. Masters of catchy guitar riffs. I like the mixing of the vocals for most EXCEPT 'Round and Round', whatever that effect was annoyed me. Didn't like "Big Ten Inch Record" either, too many eye rolls. Overall, I enjoyed the album. I think they're good at writing songs.
I didn't wanna like this album for some reason. I came in very cynical- probably from the amount of times I've heard Aerosmith in sports bars. But man I did dig it. Didn't realise how sexual the lyrics are though. The guitars are crunchy- riffs are tight, songwriting and creative sound elements keep things interesting. Felt like it had good variation, the orchestral joint at the end was pretty cool. Had nice energetic high end vs some of the other 70s records we've had thus far. But still a nice tape colouring to it. Speaking of tape- the slow downs and speed ups on a couple tracks took me off guard but I really like them, unsure if it was intentional or a recording error- either way, dope. Overall a nice full bodied well balanced coloured analogue sound which is my wheelhouse. Sweet emotion had some cool elements to it, the reverse crash- vocoder, or formant mouthpiece thing. Apparently they didn't have maracas so used a sugar bag- hilarious. Enjoyed it.
Aerosmith good but idk if in my top
wouldve been improved with even more run dmc features imo
The triplet of Walk This Way, Song About Steven Tyler’s 10 inch “Blues Album” and Sweet Emotion has despite my best efforts made me enjoy this. Honestly - I was an impressionable youth when Aerosmith had their 90s hits and was into them (or maybe more precisely Alicia Silverstone). As I aged they became a joke band in my mind. Listening to this you realize they had some chops circa 1975.
Good old mid-seventies rocker
An album from a band I really enjoy is always nice to see in this list. Nothing new to me but some really classic hits that I really love on here.
classic
A good album, I liked Walk This Way and Big Ten Inch Record the most.
Such a mix of classic, future-looking rock with some surprisingly old, bluesy stuff.
Aerosmith definitely didn't put their best foot forward here. Starts out with Toys In The Attic, which is fairly decent rock and roll, nothing great. Uncle Salty was the low point of the album. Adam's Apple was also ok. And then Walk This Way shows up, one of their best songs. Totally ramps up the energy. And that energy keeps going. Big Ten Inch Record was a lot of fun, some old school rock vibes. And its kinda funny too. Sweet Emotion was also really fun, amazing shredding in it. No More No More is some good times, Round And Round and You See Me Crying end it nicely. I've only ever heard Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion before, but this was a fairly enjoyable album. Rock on! Best song: Walk This Way
Rock aus der"guten alten Zeit"
Yes Aerosmith is silly 70s-80s hair band rock. But it’s fun and Steven Tyler’s voice is a great rock voice, I’ll listen to this anytime.
Cracking American rock album with some all time classics on.
I purchased this album as part of a 3 album aerosmith multi-pack when I was about 15 on a whim. Funny as even that long ago it was old. I was pleased as got exposed to probably the beginning of what made Aerosmith the powerhouse they are now regarded as. I dont think I would ever consider Aerosmith amazing but what they gave me certainly (amongst others) is a heavy rock / metal link which featured heavily for me at this time. I would have been experimenting with all sorts around this era like Led zep, Van Halen, Black sabbath etc. 100% Aerosmith formed part of that "linking" me backwards and forwards in and around this genre. I can see many heavy rock bands I came to like in this album. Until I re-listened to this album I dont think I ever gave it any credit in my music journey until now. Interesting retrospective. It is not a dominant 4 but I think I can sneek this one in based on its wide scope and includes some significant top tracks.
Awesome
Solid album. Enjoyed it all the way through. Made me alittle agitated at work, but a great gym or run album. Great artistry and a perfect flow through the album.
I want to love this completely but I don’t. It definitely has highs but some pretty poor lows too. 3.5 stars really I think. I defo prefer when they went slightly more into hard rock later on
The album for when you want to smoke some Marlboro reds and cruise Main Street in your Camaro on a hot summer night in the late 70’s. Sometimes you just have to stop sniffing your farts and enjoy stuff.
Some classics and some new (to me) stuff. Always fun hearing artists playing with different genres than you're used to hearing from them. All of it pretty good. Enjoyed this.
For whatever reason, I've only just scratched the surface with Aerosmith. Never explored beyond the hits. Steven Tyler is the weakest link here IMO (which is fine as he's a bit of a piece of shit). He's particularly irritating on "You See Me Crying". Man, the guitar on this album is awesome. Not sure I need to listen to them more regularly, but this was mostly a pretty fun listen.
