Reviews (page 3 of 9)
I found this quite good, the album has a fair amount of variety although most of it is the riff-heavy, hair metal precursor stuff we might mostly associate with Aerosmith. It's mixed with ballads (You See Me Crying), old school rock and roll / dick jokes (10 Inch Record) and a very Led Zeppelin Kashmir sounding penultimate track in Round and Round. I suppose it wears it's influences a bit obviously for me to give it 5*, but I enjoyed
Sweet Emotion remains an all time classic
good
Oddly enough, despite Hard Rock being my favourite genre, Aerosmith has never truly captured my attention beyond a handful of tracks, one of which, admittedly, appears on "Toys in the Attic". I own a few of their records, and this 1975 album is one of them. My core issue with Aerosmith has always been that they sound derivative. They have always struggled to forge a distinct identity for me, leaving them feeling like a collection of influences rather than an original force. "Toys in the Attic" is a very solid Rock album, there are no duds on it, but it just does not connect with me completely. 'Big Ten Inch Record' feels stylistically jarring. The record’s shining moments are 'Uncle Salty', the ubiquitous 'Walk This Way', and, above all, 'Sweet Emotion'; which is easily the album's best track. I first encountered its excellence on a compilation album called "Axe Attack", bought for me by my parents one Christmas, many years ago. It opens with Tom Hamilton’s instantly recognizable, haunting bass line before Joe Perry’s iconic talk-box effect kicks in. The track is a slow-burn, effortlessly shifting from a funky, laid-back opening groove into full-throttle heavy rock. I do not think Aerosmith have ever topped it, well not from anything I have heard of theirs. “Toys in The Attic” just earns a four-star rating. Side one 1 "Toys in the Attic" (4/5) 2 "Uncle Salty" (5/5) 3 "Adam's Apple" (4/5) 4 "Walk This Way" (5/5) 5 "Big Ten Inch Record" (3/5) Side two 1 "Sweet Emotion" (5/5) 2 "No More No More" (3/5) 3 "Round and Round" (3/5) 4 "You See Me Crying" (3/5) Total - 35 Average - 3.89 124/1001 65/124 albums reviewed were new to me.
good ol‘ rock‘n‘roll.
3.75 gotta love 70s rock
This album is still pretty good but maybe didn't age great. The cover of 10 inch disk was hilarious. Cover: 3/5 it's fine. Didn't really grab me. I listened to this while playing Storage Hunters Simulator demo which was a good fit.
Big fan, quite a few songs I recognized and really like
I remember mostly randomly picking out this CD to buy from Borders when I was in 3rd grade or so. Turns out I had pretty good taste back then
A lot of fun, a bit goofy at times, but mostly a good time. These guys don’t take themselves too seriously and that helps.
Toys in the Attic Walk This Way Sweet Emotion No More No More
A bop
Incredible album from Aerosmith, legendary tracks came from here and it's raw power shines from beginning to end. It feels whole, exciting and very well crafted. Super recommended.
Atthic
Uncle salty makes me feel mischievous Breaking news……….. the guitar on this album is nasty (complimentary) Big ten inch makes me wanna wear a poofy skirt and shuffle my feet left to right a-la Grease style
mid 70’s down and dirty blues based rock and roll. the bad boys from beantown have done it again with this one. this one has it all: an obscure blues cover (“big ten inch record”), a staple of classic rock radio (“sweet emotion”), the fast talking staccato delivery of “walk this way”. in my opinion the vocal delivery on “walk this way” could qualify the song as an early progenitor for the rap rock phenomenon that exploded in the mid to late 80’s. it totally makes sense why the band would partner with rap icons Run DMC about a decade later to re-record the track. solid album from start to finish.
This pops. TWO bangers?!
When these guys are feeling it, they are raucous, loose, bluesy and groovy, even w their sharper edge - hard not to enjoy the middle of this album w cuts like Walk this Way, Sweet Emotion, and No More No More.
OK, not necessarily my thing, but pretty good.
3.7 Pretty good rock and roll for the most part. If I had got this in a columbia house acquisition back in the day I would have probably really liked it growing up. Joe Perry's playing stands out. Ten Inch Record is a horrible song.
Favorite Track: Sweet Emotion
This was a great album. A few racpgnosable songs but plenty of inmate talent and overall a pleasure to listen to!
I enjoyed this album quite a bit, no much to say about it. It is a classic Aerosmith album with a handful of massive hits and the other songs are that far behind
i wasn't sure whether to give this a 3 or a 4 but all of the top reviews are 1s and 2s so i'll just stir it up a bit
I feel like Aerosmith albums tend to have like, a few good songs, and then a lot of filler. The only exception I can think of is Rocks, but Toys in the Attic might be close to being the second. Obviously, we got Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way (albeit without Run DMC, so it not in peak form yet), but stuff like the title track and You See Me Crying are also pretty good. There’s some weak corny stuff (the less I hear about Steven Tyler’s ten inch record the better), but the good songs balance this one out pretty well. Favorite track: Sweet Emotion Other hits: Walk This Way, Toys in the Attic, You See Me Crying, No More No More, Uncle Salty
8/10 love that like the only 2 songs I know by Aerosmith are both on here lol
Album 881 of 1089 Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic (1975) Rating : 3.5 / 5 I mainly knew the big radio hits and the cover art from my sisters’ album collection back in the day. Going in, I always assumed this one would rock a little harder than it actually does. Naturally, “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion” stand out — and I’ll say again, I’ve always thought “Sweet Emotion” is one of the best singles ever recorded. Outside of those tracks, though, the rest of the album landed somewhere in the middle for me. Not bad by any means, and I can easily see why it’s a favorite for many, but as a whole it didn’t quite reach that point for me. A good listen, just not the knockout I half-expected.
A classic example of 70s hard rock that bubbles up in the disco era. Sweet Emotion is the highlight for me. I've never been a huge fan of Aerosmith but appreciate them on occasion, especially the 70s albums. Glad I saw them in concert during the Done With Mirrors tour back in 1986 just before they became the pop rock sensation of the late 80s and early 90s. 4/5 #168
Enjoyed it alot more than I was expecting, always kept my attention. Fuckin love Adams apple and walk this way, and their cover of big ten inch record is pretty fun. Can't believe I almost wrote off aerosmith as boring blues rock
Pretty solid, few forgettable songs, but a few bangers
Enjoyed this one more than Hotel California. Sweet Emotion is possibly my favorite Aerosmith song. Walk This Way is a classic. Most of the rest of the songs were solid rockers.
Good cohesive album with a mix of hits and some high-quality deep tracks.
Often hailed as a cornerstone of 1970s hard rock, and for good reason. The album bursts with energy, swagger, and a rawness that captures the band’s early fire. The hits—“Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion”—are undeniable classics, showcasing Aerosmith’s knack for riff-driven hooks and Tyler’s charismatic vocals. The title track opens the album with manic intensity, and “Walk This Way” still feels fresh thanks to its tight groove and lyrical flair. “Sweet Emotion” is a standout, with its layered production and moody atmosphere. However, not every track hits the same high. “Uncle Salty” attempts a darker narrative but feels musically underdeveloped, lacking the punch of the album’s stronger cuts. “Adam’s Apple,” while catchy, leans heavily on blues-rock clichés and doesn’t quite evolve beyond its initial riff. “Round and Round” is perhaps the weakest link—its heavy, plodding structure feels out of place and lacks the finesse found elsewhere on the record. Toys in the Attic is a vital album in Aerosmith’s catalogue, brimming with attitude and innovation. While not every track is a knockout, the highs are high enough to make it a defining moment in classic rock history.
Overall: 7/10 It's sleazy and gross and sexual and it's honestly kind of a good time. There's lots of fun, hard rocking riffs in this album and Steven Tyler had a killer voice. I try not to let people's personal lives affect my rating, but that isn't gonna stop me from pointing out that Steven Tyler is a disgusting human being. If you can separate the art from the artist then you'll probably enjoy this one quite a bit. Fav Song: Sweet Emotion
This was great, surprisingly. I thought it was going to be cheesy and boring. Yes, there is a big cringe factor but I’ve heard much worse. They are having fun, not taking themselves too seriously and there are some good tunes in there too
4/5
I have always hated Aerosmith and thought of them as a terribly cheesy act. I guess that is strongly influenced by my age and mostly knowing their latter output. This was really good though.
Toys Toys Toys Other than the final song on each side (both of which are dogs), the album is filled with certified rockers. Hypocrisy note: I must note that I am full of shit for giving Black Crowes a 1 but this album a 4. The two bands have more in common than I would like to admit.
I'm a big Aerosmith fan...I've had a crush on Steven Tyler for decades...and while I don't love every song on this particular album, any album containing both Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way has got to earn it a 4. They're two of the most iconic rock songs of all time, which I honestly never get tired of hearing!
Bit of a guilty pleasure here. Also, their best album. It would go downhill after this. Sweet Emotion remains a banger. Title track is underrated. Still enjoyed listening to it even though Steven Tyler is a creepy human.
Unexpectedly good album
Any album with with a song bragging about a massive song is going to get a bonus star. I think it’s kinda popular to not like Aerosmith but it’s a fun album. The singles are timeless for a reason.
Amazing rock. Some real classics on here. Not a bad song on the album. Fave song: Walk This Way Honorable mentions: Sweet Emotion, Round And Round
A rock album that really doesn’t miss. Stella hit in walk this way and that 50s rock song in Big Ten Inch Record was so fun
One of those bands that has been able to stay relevant across multiple decades. This offering has several solid hits that still carry the same swagger that they carried upon release. The intro of “Sweet Emotion”, is legendary. The song makes its mark upon the drums crashing in and doesn’t relent. I’ll never get tired of that intro…
This is the album where you really start to hear the band forming that rock n roll swagger that they’d always be known for. The title track, Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way are timeless and give it near top rating. And other tracks should not be ignored either. There’s good variety throughout. A solid rockin’ good album.
Never been a huge fan of these guys, but really enjoyed this one. Couple of all time tracks on here as well.
Just gimme a kiss! Man, Aerosmith is greatness. Maybe not my fav album of theirs but certainly some solid rock and 2 timeless songs. 3.5 and rounding up for Steven Tyler’s grandma style.
Thought this album was ok overall, but the two hits got me rounding up. 3.5/5
I know i was just side-eyeing how much dad rock was on this list, but c'mon it's Aerosmith it was a good time!!!! 3.75
Ripping out of the gates on the title track. Plenty of burbling bass. Walk This Way is a damned good classic rock song. As is Sweet Emotion. And yet they managed to squeeze a cover of the sexually loaded Big Ten Inch Record in between. :golf-clap: Far from my closest listen, but I enjoyed more of this than I didn't. Probably the least horny sounding Aerosmith record I've encountered; or at least, the least overtly so... Plenty of solid licks in here with Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion doing the heavy lifting. Round and Round was a nice sludgy addition on the second half. Soft 4 for me.
I would guess this is probably one of their top two acclaimed albums based on the songs. Wild to me that Sweet Emotion used to rank #1 classic rock song of all time back on 100.7 the bay radio station. It's a very good song but that seems wild. Enjoyed the classic Aerosmith sound on this and it took me back to my days in middle school where I strangely listened to a bunch of Aerosmith. Low 4
Lots of great songs here
Aerosmith was ruined for me before I could give them a chance. In high school we were bombarded with dude looks like a lady and I hated that song. I knew the classics but it was all ruined by that song. This album fucking rocks. Sweet emotion is an all time great and no more no more is a great deep cut find. I loved it. Easy 4 stars. Great fucking record.
Very easy to listen to. No weak songs, but nothing new in the genre.
A lot better than I expected, the first song went hard.
Très sympa
HELLO ST LOUIS ‼️‼️‼️‼️🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
fire. 4.5 stars
I’ve never listened to anything but the bangers from Aerosmith, and I’m leaning towards keeping it that way
Jesus, this is 50 years old. It's easy to forget they've been at this for this long. They stayed relevant (enough) throughout the 90s/00s unlike their contemporaries. Solid sound as always.
Great rock album with two bona fide classics. Good stuff
Not my usual musical choice however I enjoyed some of it.
Maybe it's because I was heading to Disney world where rockn roller coaster starring Aerosmith is, but I was glad to hear this one. Sweet emotion is a jam
Great rock album. A classic
4.3
Big Aerosmith fan, mostly of this era (though Permanent Vacation is fun and Pump is my favorite as a whole record). This record has some of my favorite Aerosmith songs, but there are a couple tracks that bog down the record a little bit. Even still, Joe Perry is an incredible guitarist and there’s some cool instrumentation on this record; Aerosmith is the quintessential “rock star” band, and Steven Tyler is a classic front man. Toys in the Attick is a classic.
Another one I own a physical copy of. Such a great album. Personally, I’m more of an 80’s-90’s Aerosmith guy, but the classic stuff is fantastic too. Fizzles out a bit with the last two songs so 4.5 ⭐️
Hits are great but song in between bring it down.
Some good ole rock n roll Couple classics here - also lmfao at the 10” song
Of course popular songs like walk this way and sweet emotion were to be expected but I didn't anticipate the genre shift with songs like big 10 inch record
They have better albums but this was good.
really mixed i feel? first bit felt rly boring, but it picked up a lot and became rly rly nice, overall pretty good!
Nice album. Rocks with good melodies.
I was 17 when this came, I know the hits but I’ve never played the album. It’s solid 70’s rock with two standards, Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way. It’s perfect for a high school, no parents, home party.
This held up much better than I had remembered.
Had a ton of exposure to this album as a kid from my dad so there might be a bit of nostalgia boost on this rating. Purely looking at the album and not the legacy of certain band members, this is a awesome blues rock album full of great hooks and riffs. Lyrically questionable but I think the music makes up for it.
Oh yayuh. Seriously great album. Gonna give it 4.5 just based off first listen. Seriously strong middle section which is just so rare for this style of rock.
I like Aerosmith. I just feel like it's missing something that other 70s hard rock has about it. Not quite a 5.
I liked this a lot more than Hard Rocks
Really good Aerosmith here. This is one of their best and to be honest, one of the best straight up rock albums ever made. Can't really find a fault on this one, other than a couple of weak tracks (Big Ten Inch Record, Adam's Apple)... Still gets a 3.75/5 in my book. Can't miss tracks: Toys In The Attic Sweet Emotion Walk This Way Round and Round
It’s easy to forget that these guys used to make some really good rock music!
This is pretty solid rock, with some classics that deserve the title. I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan, but I think this still merits a 4*.
Well, there are some real bangers on this album, aren't there? Good to hear the original version of Walk This Way, and some nicely overwrought Alice Cooper-esque strings on You See Me Crying. Quality rock all around.
Wanted to give this five stars based on the rock and roll perfection of Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, and Toys in the Attic, but damn there is some filler crap on this album and Big Ten Inch Record subtracts a star on its own. Aerosmith rules, but I can't abide the cheesiness.
Haven’t heard this one in a while.
I was impressed with this album. Several bluesy tunes, a few rock-n-roll classics and the rest was very solid fare. Pleasantly surprised and much better than their latest offerings.
01) Toys in the Attic - 8,0 02) Uncle Salty - 7,5 03) Adam's Apple - 7,0 04) Walk This Way - 10,0 05) Big Ten Inch Record - 6,5 06) Sweet Emotion - 9,0 07) No More No More - 7,5 08) Round and Round - 6,5 09) You See Me Crying - 7,5 TOTAL: 7,72 (77/100) Current ranking: 209/525
Honestly pretty fire. The dads get it. Best tracks are Uncle Salty, Walk This Way and Round & Round. The cringiest is Big 10 Inch Record. Overall heaps of fun and goes hard.
A classic.
good album, lots of variety
This album kinda feels like it only lasts for around 10 minutes. Playing it on loop, it’s difficult to determine when it stopped and restarted. This one is on the borderline of 3-4 for me. It’s certainly got more great songs than bad songs, but nothing really blows me away either. At the same time, there’s some stuff I want to skip right off the bat. “Big Ten Inch Record” in particular got old pretty quickly. It’s got all the subtlety of a hand grenade, and none of the explosive fun. Everyone knows “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion”, and those are great, but I was pleasantly surprised by “Round and Round” and “You See Me Crying” the most. For the accomplishment of getting me to listen to this album on loop for the entire duration of my work day, I bestow a 4 upon this album.
Before they became the stadium rock staples, they were a fun blues-rock band from Boston trying to beat the stone clone accusations. Lots of wonderful little ideas on this album and some brilliant guitar playing by Joe Perry. It's nice to hear the rest of the band with a little more freedom before the band grew into the Stephen and Joe show. Toys in the Attic is a killer opening track, much faster paced than the typical Aerosmith fare. Not every song is brilliant lyrically but the tongue in cheek attitude is a hallmark of their peak.
Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion alone make up 7 epic minutes of this 37 minute album...the rest was very very solid bluesy rock.
Once again Steven Tyler brings down a stellar album.
This was a very good album - went in with low expectations but could see myself buying this.
I enjoyed this far more than I expected. I was expecting bland 70's rock, but it was a lot more fun than that. More depth, too... for the most part. The "Big 10 Inch" song notwithstanding.
Overall: 3.7/5 Favorite Song: Big Ten Inch Record Notes: The more blues, the better. I love their take on rock blues and this album is chalk full of songs that scratch that itch. The chart topper on this album, ... Walk This Way, was far from my chart's top. I found the guitar riff in Walk this way, however iconic it may be, tiring and repetitive. Round and Round threw in a major vibe switch which made me think they accidentally placed the song in this album, and I was not a fan. A lot of hits, but the songs that missed, missed big for me.
Classic rock maindtay
a nice listen overall. a little bit cooler than i expected too which was fun
From my limited view of Aerosmith, I was expecting this album to be a lot more glam rock / hair metal than it was. I was pleasantly surprised - it’s sophisticated, grounded, well produced. Guitars sound great, as do the lead vocals. Adam’s Apple was my favourite song - immediately followed by Walk This Way which I was less keen on, but probably because I’ve heard it a thousand times before (both this and the Run-DMC version). Quite a varied album too.
Favorite track: walk this way other picks: sweet emotion, uncle salty, round and round
Two of Aerosmiths biggest songs were on this album. It was overall fun and the sound that we know and expect.
Fun, enjoyed this one
7/10
I'm sure this slapped in 1975. It's pretty hard for pop rock with plenty of singable and memorable hooks and Joe Perry goes kind of wild several times. Walk this Way in particular has an awesome bass line and I really enjoy the guitar riff during the choruses. And even if the lyrics are juvenile and horny, Tyler's voice really is energetic, memorable, and has a fun cadence. I liked the album more than I want to admit.
Fun album, felt tight and polished. Even the lesser known songs were solid. Favorite songs were: Adams Apple Walk This Way 7/10
Tough in where it ranks in their 70s output. Always have a soft spot for them. Also never noticed Big Al on the album cover Rating: 4.4
Really fun uplifting music. I knew I'd enjoy it from the get go 3.5-4
Hard arena rock Care free, loose lipped energy Has a zestful flair
The best Aerosmith record
One of the best hard rock albums and the best by Aerosmith. What Steven Tyler sings on this album is not written.
Solid good time old timey skeezy seventies rock and roll. Certainly a landmark album. However knowing now that he's an actual skeezeball makes it less fun. :(
Solid!
Toys in the Attic is Aerosmith at their most alive and dangerous, the point where swagger, songwriting, and sheer momentum all click into place. It has that loose, reckless energy that makes rock records feel physical, like they might tip over at any moment but never quite do. From the start, it sounds confident without being bloated, sharp without being polished to death. What I enjoy most is how direct it feels. The riffs hit hard, the grooves swing, and nothing hangs around longer than it needs to. Steven Tyler’s voice is raw and elastic, full of attitude but not yet buried under self parody, and the band sounds genuinely hungry. Even the sleazier moments feel driven by energy rather than ego, giving the album a sense of movement that keeps it engaging all the way through. It stops just short of being perfect because there are a few moments where the band leans into familiar rock tropes a bit too comfortably. Still, that familiarity is part of the appeal. Toys in the Attic captures a band in full flight, before excess and mythology started to outweigh the music
It's reminding me of car rides with my Poppop
4/5
Again, I'm positively surpsied by Aerosmith. This is a nice blusey record.
ок
Nice 70s rock album
To be frank, I didn't start appreciating this band until later on in years. Never looked back and still enjoy their tunes.
It's a pretty rocking album. Maybe the time these guys turned a corner and showed they can really play? The big singles Walk this Way and Sweet Emotion are indeed big - the latter one of my all time faves of theirs. Great guitar work by Perry, really all the instruments, and Tyler is prowling on it. But they also bring a big sound and attitude on the title track (good opener), Uncle Salty (though a bit more of their early sound...bluesy), Adam's Apple (Tyler's vocals make this one), and No More No More (also a little bluesy...nice piano work). Round and Round is a bit different - heavier and grungier than the rest, almost like a Deep Purple song - but I liked it. And then it wouldn't be Aerosmith without a power ballad would it? You See Me Crying is a little cheesy but still good. Overall, a solid album.
Not an easy album to rate. On one hand it is the most simple and straightforward rock album from 70s, very much in the same vein as The Rolling Stones, one catchy riff per song, melodic vocals and clear-cut style of the track. On the other song, this album has no bad songs, everything is at least average and pleasant to listen to, with couple songs standing against the test of time (especially Walk This Way, which may have one of the catchiest riff ever). I don't think I would like to listen to this album ever again, but I have to admit, it's just a very solid record, hard to find any big flaw in it. Good job Aerosmith.
I mean, Toys in the Attic is classic Aerosmith. Some iconic songs. great listen
Like many in my generation, I first encountered Aerosmith in the early ’90s through 'Get a Grip' and its inescapable MTV-dominating music videos—a resurgence that sometimes overshadowed their storied history. That summer, I stumbled upon 'Toys in the Attic' in a bargain bin and discovered the album that first broke Aerosmith into the mainstream. Released in 1975, Toys in the Attic is a rocker's dream. Its lyrical themes—love, lust, and rebellion—capture the youthful energy of mid-’70s rock, while the music itself blazes with energy. Joe Perry’s razor-sharp riffs lay the foundation for Steven Tyler’s charismatic vocals and playful delivery. Tyler and Perry, famously nicknamed the “Toxic Twins,” had an almost telepathic bond in their songwriting and performance, a chemistry that anchors the album’s raw and swaggering energy. Tracks like the universally loved “Walk This Way” blend hard rock and funk with effortless cool (something ripe for hip-hop sampling a few years later), while the title track barrels forward with relentless momentum. Even lighter moments, like the risqué blues cover “Big Ten Inch Record,” showcase the band’s humour and versatility. Culturally, Toys in the Attic arrived when rock was diversifying, and its blend of blues, funk, and glam offered something fresh in a landscape dominated by prog-rock experimentation and soft rock melodies. The album’s multi-platinum success made Aerosmith a household name, cementing their status as one of America’s greatest rock bands. However, for listeners without a strong affinity for this genre, the album might come across as somewhat same0y. While it may not be my personal favorite Aerosmith release, I appreciate the raw energy they brought to the table with Toys in the Attic. With Toys in the Attic, Aerosmith didn’t just break into the mainstream—they etched their name into the DNA of American rock. Did/Do I own this release? Yes, on CD Does this release belong on the list? Yes Would this release make my personal list? As mentioned I would likely pick a different album. Will I be listening to it again? For sure.
Just good. Not much else to say it’s just an objectively pretty good album.
A nice slice of 70's hard rock. These guys were pretty great back in the day.
Cock rock shenanigans
liked
Toys in the attic has a great starting guitar line. Enjoyed this one, and Tyler's voice isn't obnoxious. Also brass in big ten inch record. 4* Highlights: walk this way, sweet emotion, toys in the attic
Aerosmith are one of those eternal bands. They always sound good.
Not bad at all! Two classics (Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion) and the rest is solid 3.6
I really enjoyed Toys In The Attic. I honestly never made the connection of Aerosmith having blues elements in their music but i find that they mesh so well with the traditional hard rock they are known for. I also thought every song here was at least good if not great and they also managed to be very different from each other despite being relatively the same genre. I honestly don't know if i can think of any flaws that this album has since this album did everything it tried to do right. This is one great album in my opinion and is well deserving of a spot on this list. Best Song: Sweet Emotion Worst Song: Uncle Salty
I thought it was interesting and enjoyable rock. The riffs are great and the singers exited. Walk This Way is quite fun and I thought it was a solid album.
Not necessarily the most cerebral rock n roll ever, but it’s an enjoyable groove. Solid good times, pretty much every second.
a rockin record filled with solid songs
Listened Before? N Yep. Best hard rock group of the 1970s IMO. At the top of their game here too. Rockers all the way through and a great pompous attitude to go along with good musicianship. These boys could throw it down. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Toys In The Attic, Sweet Emotion, Big Ten Inch Record
Previously rated: Rocks (5/5) ******************** I don't like this one quite as much as Rocks, but still quite solid. Sweet Emotion is overplayed on classic rock stations, so I'm pretty bored of it, and to a lesser extent Walk This Way. I hadn't heard Big Ten Inch Record in a while, so that was nice. Round and Round was a cool, heavy track.
Not the biggest Aerosmith fan, but this has most of my favorite tracks from them and the innovation and lead work here is very impressive. Was actually leaning 3 until the last song blew me away.
Divorcing it from what I know of Aerosmith, it’s satisfyingly bluesy and more interesting than their later stuff to be sure.
A good listen. It starts off slow but Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion and No More, No More are classic tracks.
Shiny strut
6,88
brilliant dirty rock
Back when they wanted to be the Beatles and the drugs hadn’t taken complete hold. Good album. Shane about the last track.
Oof this was good. A bit of everything going on here. Loved the upbeat vibe of Big Ten Inch Record and particularly enjoyed the way the album ended with You See Me Crying, it felt like a really solid outro. The whole album just flowed really well but I'm hesitant to give it a 5/5 because something was missing so it's just shy of a 5 star
Wow, lots of hits packed into 37 minutes! I enjoy Aerosmith although I don't generally seek them out.
The Good: Rock 'n Roll The Bad: only 37 odd minutes The Ugly: album cover... I remember buying this album in the early '90s, because I owned the album Pump and wanted to listen to some more Aerosmith, and recalled how, in the '80s Run DMC had introduced a whole new crowd to this band thanks to Walk This Way. I remember listening to the album, well, technically speaking it was a cassette as back then most cars did not have CD players yet and nobody ever had a record player in their car.... I digress... listening to this album and it was NOT what I had hoped for, as this is more raw, and Pump is polished, and modern Rock, and this is old man rock.... Yet, I fist pumped the air today when I saw that I had this album to listen to as just the other day I watched Dazed and Confused and still had Sweet Emotions running through my head. So do I like the album today? Hell yes. 4* As for the haters who can't stop calling Tyler a pedophile... and therefore not appreciate this album: your loss.
Solid album.
Really great stuff!
- "Rocks", which SHOULD be on this list, is the best Aerosmith album and rocks harder than so much you won't believe it ..... "Toys in the Attic" is pretty fuckin' solid but only gets 4 stars because "Rocks" is ... well, hopefully you'll listen to it. -
Unfortunately not as good as I remember, but a very nostalgic album for me. My mother used to play it all the time and my parrot Dale would headbang to it. 4 for nostalgia, 3 for the music.
A few months ago my dad gave me remnants of his record collection and I started listening in alphabetical order. And so it came to be that Aerosmith's Toys In The Attic was the first album I ever listened to on vinyl. It was a lot more bluesy than I expected. I usually don't like blues rock but it worked really well here blended in a hard rock context.
Yes everyone knows Aerosmith but I've never sat down to listen to a full album. Really enjoyed it, glad to have it on new rotation!
yritän parhaani muuta en perkele sentään pysty vihata näitä pedofiilejä... jotain näissä albumeissa on joka viehättää sen verran että rallakasti menee aika alusta loppuun asti.. suurin osa näitten musiikiista on niin pirun kuunneltavaa tavaraa niin pirun....'' wowoowaoro rock... rock it babby.... little baby...... young young baby..... ei mitään tsäänssiä että tuolla huume hörhöllä on kymmenen tuuman hevoskyrpä, ei mitään tsäänssiä että ei surkastunut kuin rusina konsanaan pili... iilimatoi pilissä 100%....... iilimatoi nii vitusti pilis......... toys in the attic
Solid album with some jams! Was suprised by the variety but that took a little away from the cohesiveness.
Got this one just shortly after Steven Tyler announced his retirement from touring, good timing.
Something must've happened in the late 1970's to Aerosmith to make them go from this really good early 70's stuff, a combination of Rolling Stones rock with a Led Zeppelin power to it - to whatever the hell they started doing during the 80's and 90's. And yeah, I know. It's drugs.
So good
Really tight set of tracks, the blueprint in terms of tone for a lot of the late 70s and 80s bands. Sweet Emotion is strong
Excellent 70s rock. As far as Aerosmith goes this is probably their best with some classic tunes that are radio staples for what is now considered classic rock. This record along with "Get Your Wings" are my favorites.
Some good tracks, some ok tracks, and all of them just what rock in 1975 was all about. And, reallly, who among us doesn't need a Big Ten Inch Record every once in a while?
Rock 'n' Roll ❤️❤️❤️
It's tough to beat "Sweet Emotion" for cruising around and doing nothing with the radio up. It's perfect for "Dazed and Confused." I prefer the version of "Walk This Way" with Run DMC, but who cares?
Бодрые деды
Very solid rock album: energetic stuff, beautiful ballad at the end, nothing over the top.
Absolutely unique album with a lot of energy.
Having already listened to an Aerosmith album and really loved it, I was very excited to listen to this album. It did not disappoint. More led zeppelin-like than I anticipated.
Lekker
Highly enjoyable with a few hits sprinkled in. Fantastic Aerosmith album.
It’s a solid 3 but Sweet Emotion takes it to easy 3.5 and gotta round up.
Boy I loved Aerosmith back in high school, and Toys… was one of my favorite albums, the title song especially. My love has dwindled over the decades, especially since they took a much softer turn a few albums into their reemergence from obscurity thanks to Rick Rubin, Run DMC, and a track of this album. It’s still a solid album, though. Just not as great as I once thought it. I guess I’ve (fortunately) matured out of some of the double entendres and innuendos.
Great album. Awesome riffs. I really like this forgotten gem
classic rock album, some of the best rock guitar ever
Huh. Who knew that this band was ever this good? This album is just flat-out fun, and holy shit, the bass work throughout it is outstanding. The last track is awful, though.
Not the greatest rock album by a long shot, but still quite enjoyable. It definitely encompasses the feeling of its time well. Favorite tracks: "Walk This Way," "Sweet Emotion" and the title track.
Funny how Aerosmith was nearly forgotten at one point in time, before the mid to late 80s brought them back as a legendary force. This album is loaded with great riffs on great tunes. The tracks fall flat at some spots, but an overall very enjoyable record
Imposible quedarse quieto. Big ten inch record es R&R 100% clásico, es una versión de un tema de los años 50. Sweet emotion, es el otro clásico del disco. Algo más psicodélica (suena la marimba), pero igualmente genial. No more, no more es otro temazo. Round and round, endurece el estilo con obvia influencia de Led Zepellin. Baladón final con You see me crying. 1975 es el año de discos como: Down by the Jetty de Dr. Feelgood, debut de Ac/Dc, Physical Graffiti de Led Zeppelin, Wish you were here de Pink Floyd, That's the Way of the World de Earth, Wind and Fire, Young Americans de D. Bowie, Dressed to Kill de kiss, Rubycon de Tangerine Dream, ABBA de ABBA, Diamonds & Rust de Joan Baez, Zuma y Tonight's the Night de Neil Young, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy de Elton John, Main Coruse de Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band de KC and the Sunshine Band, Born to run de B. Springsteen, Love to Love You Baby de Donna Summer, Another Green World de Brian Eno, Ommadawn de Mike Oldfield, Radio-Activity de Kraftwerk, Horses de Patti Smith, A Night at the Opera de Queen, Crisis? What Crisis? de Supertramp, el directo de Bob Marley...
For me this is another album where the best songs are very good (Walk this Way, Sweet Emotion, You See Me Crying) to rate 4 stars or B, but the rest lower that to a B-.
Dope record. Some iconic hits and beautiful sounds.
4/5
The Rolling Stones for people from Boston (complimentary)
I'm torn. Sweet Emotion, Toys in the Attic, and Walk this Way are Aerosmith classics. But I am not sure if this is really good, or just really familiar to me so I think it's good. The rest is pretty good too. I think this classic Aerosmith is better than the rebirth in the 90's Aerosmith. It is definitely not a 5, but I'll go 4 stars. +1 for real guitars and drums.
Day130 - walk this way and sweet emotion are classic rock staples for a reason they’re awesome
Tolles Album mit eingängigen Melodien und Texten.
Liked it a lot!
Guess I'm a sucker for that cock rock 4.5/5
I like this album. I guess I like Steven Tyler when he isn't screeching or yelling in a higher pitch. The guitar was on point for most of the album, the songs felt complete, and the album kept my attention throughout. Even through the singles like Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. The length was great as well. Very digestible.
Really good album. Solid until the last 2 songs whoch changes the tone and the song sound like a filler. Otherwise one of their best albums ever.
True confession - I always assumed that Aerosmith were an 80s metal band and I had no idea that they started in 1970! Anyhoo, this album is a gloriously swaggering 70s classic with nods to the Who, the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and the Beatles. They even channel George Formby on one song about whipping out his 10 inch … record. The original version of Walk This Way also shows them to be ahead of their time, anticipating quirky hip hop rhythms.
I was not aware that it is that old, but it aged really well.
I’ve definitely listened to this album in full before, but it’s been a very long time. I remember as a teen expecting the original Walk This Way to be better than the collaboration with Run D.M.C and being very wrong. Let’s listen! Songs I already knew: all to some degree Favourites: Sweet Emotion, Round and Round, Walk This Way It’s hard to imagine a time when Aerosmith weren’t an already very well-known classic rock band. I’m sure there are some people these days that only know Steven Tyler from judging on American Idol and that makes me sad. This is hard rock at its finest with fantastic vocals and catchy riffs throughout. Round and Round bangs harder than I remembered and I loved it.
Exciting
i enjoyed it cooooool funky music very much my vibes
This shit rocks!! Hell yeah
BIG TEN INCH IS HILARIOUS AND HAS RISEN THE RATING
This album is a little unique in that there are two great songs on it in "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way", both unique and great sounding, while the rest of the album kind of sounds amateurish? It was a good listen but I wanted more. 7/10.
Najbolje pjesme: 1. Walk This Way 2. Sweet Emotion 3. Big Ten Inch Record 4. Uncle Salty
Was never big on Aerosmith but find them alright. Get reminded of the Rock n Roll rollercoaster at Disneyland haha. I recognise a few of the songs on this album (Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion). Generally a good vibe and added them to library so maybe a low 4.
Steven Tyler and his big 10 inch came through! I like the blues inspired hard rock, and the slower songs felt like a play
Always a great listen.
Enjoyed this more than I was expecting, catchy riffs a lot of which I wasn't aware originated here.
Edit: From 5 to a 4. Iconic, yes, but I bumped this early in my project simply due to name recognition.
"Big Ten Inch Record" has got to be the absolute worst attempt to hide what it's really about. But this is OK, otherwise, it's easy to forget that Aerosmith started small as a pioneering rock/blues band, and a lot of the tracks here ("Sweet Emotion," especially) could fit in with late-80s/early-90s alt-rock.
An overall solid album, just doesn't move me really
Aerosmith is a school of good music and Toys in the attic is an instant classic
Catchy riffs. Cool solos. This was a fun album to listen to. Sweet Emotion is one of the best songs ever
Great in general. Final songs are pure fire
Solid album that I would recommend to friends that are a fan of classic rock.
Classic album with Aerosmith defining their sound. had some tough years ahead, and then made a ridiculous major come back. Great music for this Boston blues band!
In 1976, I purchased a discounted copy of Rocks, the album that followed Toys In The Attic, as a member of the Australian Record Club. Except for the track Back In The Saddle, I found Rocks to be hugely disappointing. It was the only Aerosmith I’d ever heard. I’d read plenty about them, but had never actually heard them before & took very little notice of them again until Run DMC co-opted them in their cover of Walk This Way (1986) & their great 1989 singles, Love In An Elevator & Janie’s Got A Gun. What a pity I’d not purchased Toys In The Attic rather than Rocks. This is a great album. The title track kicks it off at speed & the band kick major arse - no duds here. Uncle Salty & Adam’s Apple are terrific - I feel like I’ve known them in a past life. Walk This Way is one of the great 70’s songs - that drum intro is so good & the track is just relentless. Big Ten Inch Record is exactly what it sounds like, courtesy of Bullmoose Jackson (1952). The intro to Sweet Emotion recalls The Stones‘ We Love You, I think. It’s an absolute killer track. Round & Round is as close to metal ( & Led Zeppelin) as the album gets. I can’t believe I’ve missed this record for almost 50 years. Unreal.
I was 16 when the Run DMC cover of Walk This Way came out, and I thought it was the hot shit. It was one of the first 12" singles I bought with my own money, and I played it until it turned gray. I have subsequently become familiar with the original version; my DJ partner, Grandpa Smurf, spins the original pretty regularly, and it's a real floor filler. This is the third Aerosmith album I have reviewed for this project, and I confess I was expecting to be disappointed. Rocks was a stodgy and uninspiring mess, and Pump was a lumpen turd of late 80s corporate rock bloat. I'd never really understood the appeal and influence of Aerosmith. Slash from Guns 'n Roses would often cite Aerosmith as a key influence, but I certainly couldn't hear it in Rocks, although Guns 'n Roses went on to take 80s corporate rock bloat to even greater heights than Pump with Use Your Illusion. So, while I knew there was at least one good single, my expectations for this record were not high. But when I put it on, when the title track came roaring out of the speakers and pinned my ears right back. This is a whole different thing to the relatively lethargic and rote Rocks. "Let's hope they can keep this up", I thought. Next few tracks were pretty good, then Walk This Way comes blasting out, also a terrific track. Sweet Emotion and Round and Round are strong rock tracks in their ways, and even the filler tracks are pretty exciting. Their cover of Big Ten Inch Record is fun (although the Bullmoose Jackson version is still preferable). I could live without the schmaltzy orchestrations on the final track, but at least the overproduction is confined to the one sappy ballad. I think I finally hear what a template this was for the first Guns 'n Roses album. It has that same frantic energy. It sounds a bit wild, a bit dangerous. A really fine hard rock album. The rest of their discography (a few singles excepted) I can live without, but this is the real deal. Colour me pleasantly surprised.
Excellent classic blues rock album. With songs like Sweet Emotion and Walk this Way, it's easy to see why this one was a big deal, but the deep cuts that lean heavy into hard rock with the focus on blues riffs really make this album complete. Steven Tyler sounds amazing on this album as well.
Outside of Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion this album is pretty generic. Sounds like utility Aerosmith. Not bad.
Classic. 4
Hadn’t heard all of these before, but I’ve always been fascinated by Tyler’s ability to place a perfectly timed, emotion-packed scream at just the right moment and then transition to a satisfying rhythm so seamlessly!
Weer een aangename verrassing, rock zoals ik dat kan waarderen, met hier en daar prettige rock&roll invloeden, en natuurlijk walk this way.
Good old 70s rock
The title track might be one of the most underrated Aerosmith songs.
Even the none hits are great, and the hits are iconic. 3.9
Walk This Way - Big Ten Inch Record - Sweet Emotion is one pretty sweet 3-song run. Rest of the album is pretty good too but those 3 had me groovin
Really liked the album. Very good rock album
Lots of classics here. Already a fan of Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion but there is more to like and overall a solid selection.
Aerosmith rocking the house and being a force of 70's rock. Their best album
I liked it more than I thought I would. I agree with Creep Factor, but Uncle Salty: where did that come from?! Liked it. Man, that dude is old. But that's a good band.
Aerosmith has such a great blues-rock sound. Steven Tyler has an outstanding and versatile voice, every song has an excellent guitar riff for a catchy hook, and the blues-y, swinging chords that make up the backdrop are layered, interesting, and above all, fun. This is a great album that one can hear the influence of in much later rock and roll. Some of the lyrics are a little creepy, though. My favorite songs were Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, and Uncle Salty.
Fun romp
Classic Aerosmith. This kind of music is exactly what you want it to be for specific times/places. Made a good workout album.
Sehr variantenreich, hätte ich von Aerosmith nicht erwartet.
Solid album with a couple nice hits.
Toys in the Attic - 8/10 Uncle Salty - 8.5/10 Adam’s Apple - 8/10 Walk This Way - 10/10 Big Ten Inch Record - 7.5/10 Sweet Emotion - 10/10 No More No More - 7.5/10 Round and Round - 7.5/10 You See Me Crying - 8/10 TOTAL - 75/90
Peak Aerosmith. With an almost punk intensity at times.
Great rock album
It kinda good. One could say this album rocks - 8/10
Walk this way 8/10
Gratis album. Has some of my favorite teams ever
Vraiment bon. C'est fou.
Good One! Always on the turntable to get the party started!
Leur 3ème album. Leur plus grand succès commercial. Sweet emotion et Walk this way!! 4 parce que walk this way c'est un huuuuuge classqiue pour 1975 et car jh,ai mis un 4 à pump alors que j'aurais dû mettre 3.
Came out when I was senior in High School. Loved it then and still do now!
Been an Aerosmith fan for decades, but was raised off the radio hits and a CD of their greatest hits. Two of the heavy hitters were on this album, and maybe it's literal decades of exposure to their best, but the rest of the album began to feel like filler. Never bad, but not to the top of what I know they can do. Still an enjoyable ride.
Not my personal fav but a classic nonetheless
Excellent album, full of memorable riffs and some gritty rock n roll a la Stones. Sweet Emotion is just such a great song, ably supported by the title track and Walk this Way. The other tracks are largely solid rockers, although 10 inch record is forgettable. You See Me Crying is a nice ballad to close the album
Tönt guet! Jetzt nid da woni jede tag chent lose aber es isch stabile klassische rock. Han wie au nid meh dezue z sege 3.8/5
Honestlyes solids album! Gueti vocals un suuuupa gitarre! Dig it
Classic rock key stone. Sweet emotion is still brilliant.
Better than I expected
Good stuff. Could probably listen on repeat.
I liked it!!!
How can you not like old school Aerosmith?
Classic Aerosmith!
A Middle School classic! School dance, polyester and bell bottoms…and girls!
attempt to sexualize their interpretation of the genre + 1 back in the 70s, steven tyler fucked an underaged groupie + 1 Tyler, who was suffering memory loss at the time from years of drug use, liked "You See Me Crying" so much, he suggested his group record a cover version, only to be told by his bandmate Perry, "It's us, fuckhead.” + 1 Vika Kappale viimeistelee kivaan pakettiin koko albumin soundin jonka takia täytynee antaa se neljäs rock and roll tähti..
Solid classic rock album, fun listen
Very fun listen
Many iconic songs on this album, good stuff
I love Aerosmith. Another album with a nostalgia bias for me. But will be listening again.
3 star but "Big Ten Inch Record" brings it up to 4
Hard Rockin' best seller for Aerosmith - their 3rd album and just a classic 70's album. Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion are clearly the standouts. Toys in the Attic is a great rocker. Uncle Salty and Adam's Apple are arguably the weakest tracks but they're not show stopping filler - overall it's a more developed, mature sound.
Classic
Classic Aerosmith, good music
4/5
HL: “Sweet Emotion”, “Walk This Way”, “Round and Round”, “Uncle Salty”, “No More No More” Back to the classics today December 13, 2023
Love, love, love Aerosmith! Not a huge fan of this album, but still good :)
Classic. I think the songwriting is great along with the performances.
Favorite Tracks: Walk This Way Toys In The Attic Sweet Emotion
Stark fyra dock.
One of the better Aerosmith albums some classics
Great rock album, packed with classics. It’s not hard rock so it can be played in several situations.
I liked this but I didn't love it. I do think it would be a great album to listen to again, so I am giving it 4 stars. While listening I kept thinking how it would be a great addition to my vinyl collection.
3.5
So great. Pure rock and roll - no BS. Love it.
Toys in the Attic - 4/5 Uncle Salty - 4/5 Adam's Apple - 4/5 Walk This Way - 4/5 Big Ten Inch Record - 3/5 Sweet Emotion - 4/5 No More No More - 3/5 Round and Round - 3/5 You See Me Crying - 3/5
1. Toys- 3 2. Uncle salty - 4 3. Adam's apple -3 4. Walk this way - 5 5. Big ten inch record - 4 6. Sweet emotion - 5 7. No more - 2 8. Round and round- 3 9. You see me crying- 4 sounds like a cat in heat tho 3.6

If cocaine made a noise, then this album would be it. And it’s actually pretty catchy. I’m almost angry at how good Walk This Way is.
I thought the album with Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way would be an easy 5, but the rest was pretty forgettable. Does Steven really have a 10 incher?
Pretty good
Another one I have on vinyl. Sweet Emotion is still one of the best bass lines of all time.
Couple of classic bangers, ok otherwise
woo-ohh wo-oooh groooovy
Sentimental fave. Classic 70’s rock.
Second listen through grew on me. While never being a huge Aerosmith fan, their blues and funk inspirations come out strong in the album. Walk This Way, Big Ten Inch Record, Sweet Emotion and Round and Round are the star tracks of the album. 4/5.
Really epic, Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way are classics but a lot of instrumentals and new tracks on this that stand out
Biased because Aerosmith is amazing, overall a great album with some of their top hits
The was a pretty good album for me
Had a surprisingly good time listening to this. It's 70s rock with some added funk in a couple of tracks. Good listen!
Quite a complete album, with great personality and songs that still get played nowadays
Its better than i remmeber
mostly like arena rock which i wasn’t really in the mood for in the moment but it’s good obvs and the last song was unique and cool
Rock solid rock album. This is what I think of when I imagine peak 70s rock.
Decent and fun
The sequencing of this album has always bothered me. Toys in the Attic is a nice start, but then Adam's Apple and Uncle Salty are next. I find these two songs to be the weakest on the record and there are much better songs on here that would have flowed better after Toys in the Attic. The highs are high on this album but there are also a few lows, which for me, means the album does not get a five-star review. I guess you would need to hear this album just for the two big hits, but Aerosmith's catalog is so varied between the 70's, 80's and 90's output then really the exact album to recommend depends on the person you are recommending it to. "You See Me Crying" is a very underrated song. Really good album, even if I find there to be some lows.
This album rocked! They make some good fun rock music, and nobody does it like Stephen Tyler.
Great album
I’ve never been an Aerosmith fan but you can’t deny they’re a staple in the classic rock genre. The album got better as it went along.
