Reviews (page 6 of 13)

Mazzy Star's whole thing makes sense now.

It's willie nelson singing the great American Songbook. Booker T's arrangements are pretty unadorned and leave plenty of room for the stripped down band, rooted by his distinctive organ sounds and Trigger's twang. With his tender, textured voice and intuitively around-the-beat phrasing, Nelson gives these songs fresh readings, with just the touch of sentimentality and nostalgia they demand.

Not bad. Willie's got talent, no doubt.

Nelson's voice is a little rough around the edges, but really burrows into you rather quick.

Another Willie banger, never missed in those days

Psychedelia in Portugese.

I have not listened to this album before. I really enjoyed it. It is elegant in its simplicity

Classic Willie

Damn, Willie can really sing!

Some classic songs which highlight Willie in his vocal prime. Tender vibratos.

Overall good album of standards by Willie. I don't know how but his voice just slid right into each of these without being overly noticeable

Makes me miss living in a time I've never experienced, nor ever will. Willie does a good job giving his vocals and guitar work equal time to shine, the space created in the tracks is beautiful. Ready to be filled with whatever memories one may.

If at least one track from this album isn't on your summer back yard evening playlist, your playlist is no good.

If it's just on in the background, it's kind of MEH. But if you actually sit and carefully listen, some of these songs are really beautiful. I.e. unchained melody. Maybe going to look for a cover that doesn't have his voice. Though I guess Willie is also covering it...

Willie is a national treasure and his voice is iconic. This album is full of covers that he pulls off with his own style and simple arrangements. I loved it but still prefer his original material. Definitely a worthwhile listen to see how his voice varies to other styles.

Love when I get an album I have on vinyl, but have hardly listened to. Got this from my dad who was giving away a bunch of albums (hope Herb Alpert comes up too, not likely). The trick is in the old standards without the schmaltz. Willie lets you have fresh ears on an album where every song has it's own Wikipedia page. It's understated, clean and utterly wonderful. 10 songs at mid tempo just creating a great vibe.

I've heard of Willie Nelson but I couldn't remember what genre or style his songs were. I then made the mistake of working out to this album. While it is a good album, I would not recommend listening when you need high energy music to keep you awake during a workout!

Gorgeous collection of standards, refracted through the Willie Nelson lens. A lovely way to start my Friday! If I had to criticize, the only thing I’d say is it’s all very mid-tempo, but that doesn’t bother me all that much. Songs like Blue Skies pick up the pace enough, so it evens out.

Very good album for content and overall performance.

Familiar songs and a warm, comforting album. Nice.

I haven’t listened to much Willie over the years. I know these are all just old standards, but he really put a mood to these. The whole album cries for a still night, small fire pit, a good friend and a pour of bourbon. Thank you, Willie.

Great story behind the making of this album that I just learned and made me appreciate it more than when I had tried to listen in the past. Beautiful and simple covers shifting away from what Willie had been doing leading up to this. Bold choice Cotton.

Listened on vinyl. Just beautiful.

I liked it nice relaxing album to swoon away to.

Willie med de gode covers, sindssygt behageligt

Awesome chill chords for acoustic happiness

I really enjoyed this album. Something about Willie Nelson that puts me at ease.

Georgia On My Mind

Some really beautiful pieces here

Easy listening Willie.

Reading the wiki article about this album definitely provided necessary context to this extremely popular album of cover tunes. Especially when you learn that the record company was reluctant to release this album as it was a complete departure from Nelson's previous work. It wasnt what i was expecting, it was so much more. When the album started playing i was quickly taken aback, it was not what i was expecting. I associated Willie Nelson with an outlaw country sound but this collection of soft and soulful covers of american standards is anything but. The production by Booker T. Jones is simple and elegant, allowing Willie's voice to shine. The musicianship is perfectly restrained with no virtuosic shows of talent but rather perfectly placed flourishes and cadences. The rhythm secrion is heavy on the downbeat, which gives these songs an exciting propulsion even though they are all performed at relatively slow tempos. Willie's interpretations sound vital and necessary, he gives new life to these old songs, with a subtleness and ease few artists could achieve. His vocal delivery is understated, unhurried and unconcerned while at the same time engaging, arresting and immediate. Totally surprised by how much i enjoyed this.

Just a lovely collection of classic songs performed by a legend. Yeah, some are a little corny. The arrangements on some are a little much. But he sings with such emotion that it almost always works. Such a treasure of a performer. It’s a little boring in places. But it more than makes up for that with its charm and feeling. An easy 4 stars. Also I think this is the first time I’ve had the same song performed by a different artist in the project. Both Ella Fitzgerald a few albums ago and Nelson on this record performed “Someone to Watch Over Me.” Standout tracks: Georgia on My Mind, Blue Skies, On the Sunny Side of the Street, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, Someone to Watch Over Me

I loved this album. It was very relaxing and comforting. The gentle melody’s and guitar notes along with Willie Nelson’s soothing vocals just make this album a really good listen. It didn’t do anything to outrageous that made me feel like it’s worth a 5 star however I find a comfort in the album’s predictably overall 4 stars

Great Album! Know him through GTA 5 Rebel Radio (Whiskey River) but this one came unexpectedly calm and good. Def will get a respin in the future!

Willie has such an understated talent for delivery.

I never really payed any attention to Willie Nelson and that seems to be a mistake as this album was actually pretty decent and I rather liked it. Going to pay more attention to Willie from now on.

Really lovely. Makes me want to sit in a hot tub and get high under the redwoods

Love. Recognise a lot of them.

i have a feeling about this one, gonna listen while showering i really love this oh my god, i don't even listen to country but... i really liked all of me september song :( "and these few precious days, i'll spend them with you" i like moonlight in vermont someone to watch over me bro ill kill myself i relistened to stardust to rexperience this, william nelson i love you

It's a very sweet cover album. Amazing cover art. Willie has his own unique sound. The way his guitar sounds and his voice is like no one else. The production sounds great. I'm going to round down to a 4 I think Willie earned doing a cover album because he can make the songs his own. Nice for a slow dance with someone.

Chill album, great for in the background while doing something else

not my favourite style, but nice songs done really well.

There's something incredibly comforting about hearing Willie Nelson sing the standards. The song choices really suit Willie's voice, with restrained, languid arrangements, a low key jazz-pop sensibility, and an abundance of charm. A ton of artists from different genres have done this type of album, but this album sets a high bar. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Stardust, September Song, Georgia on My Mind, Unchained Melody, Blue Skies, All of Me, Moonlight in Vermont, Someone to Watch Over Me, On the Sunny Side of the Street, Don't Get Around Much Anymore

What a pleasant surprise on a gray February morning. I've never been a Willie super fan, but found this album of mostly (all?) covers to be just lovely

I liked this album more than I expected. First time listen for me and Willie really interpreted these songs brilliantly. I can see why it was such a hit.

Molto bello. Questo me lo salvo. per me è da 4

Very chill

Love Willie, fun album of cover songs. I'll give it a bump for Willie but it's probably a 3.5 star album.

Good Covers album, Willie is able to show off his vocal range and singing ability with some of these well known hits. I enjoyed it.

Beautiful album. Loved it a lot.

Willy is a classic

This is really fucking sweet. It's like a non-country Willie Nelson album.

Easy listening, great chord progression.

Een wijntje, een nootje, een kaarsje. Zet deze muziek aan op de achtergrond en ik verzeker je: de kortste keren mag je de kont in. Lekkere muziek hoor

Good listen!

Little bit slower and more deliberate than Red Headed Stranger, but we all need to slow down every once in a while! Very peaceful, clear vocals that I appreciate. Great singer/songwriter for a genre that I generally am not giving rave reviews on. If I had to say, I enjoyed Red Headed Stranger more, but they can both belong right here in the 4 category.

I was surprised at the number of songs I knew from this album. That was some peaceful music that I wish I was listening to while sitting in the woods camping. The guitar work was pretty excellent to go along with the soft drums in the background. This album sniffed a 5 for me and I could see it getting one if I relistened in a different setting. But it didn't quite have that something special needed.

What a nice album. May everyone's favorite stoner grandpa live for 1001 years.

Loved it. Reminded me of my father throughout since he would play Georgia on my Mind a lot. This is difficult because I’m definitely stuck between 4 and 5, but at the end of the day I’ll stick with a strong 4.

Album: Stardust Artist: Willie Nelson Year: 1978 Genre: Country Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beautiful album, the lyricism displayed in this album is incredible, Willie’s artistry is unmatched. Fave song: Georgia on my Mind Would I listen again? 100%

country folk frank sinatra?

It feels like falling deeper in love with your person

My first thought was, oh no, not another one of those outlaw country singers. But this is different. The songs are better. More variation than his genre mates. He's not the best singer out there, but he makes it work. Favorite song: Stardust

No era la música country que esperaba, gracias a Dios 🙏🏼

duplicate

Excellent record, some great remakes and many great originals. The “strolling” piano notes and tempo are not my thing but overall the record is strong.

Very nice had some bops

Loved this album - some really interesting covers and a very mellow listen. Would definitely replay

HIs voice is fantastic and a very good choice of songs

This is quite a delightful album of covers of standards by Willie.

Amazon is acting weird, but what I did listen to I did enjoy.

Although I like Willie Nelson and he has many good songs and this recording is very well done, I do not find it to be one of Willie's better albums because it shows the limitations of his vocals. The songs are great each one is good but I prefer other performers renditions much better and think how a different vocalist would have sounded much better saying the part that Willie is singing on these songs. Unfortunately I think his vocal range just doesn't work well even though you can tell he really tries and in some cases succeeds. His guitar playing is very good on Stardust

Mycket bra faktiskt.

Love the intimacy of the stripped down voices and music

I know of Willie, but have never listened to any of his music before as I'm not a fan of country. So this album was certainly a surprise. A laid back chill crooning to the classics. It's not quite top tier, but it's a solid 4/5.

A classic. Willie's voice sounds like home to me.

Not the best singer or guitarist but always brings a good album to the table

I like this album. Another 'American Songbook'. Phantastic covers of old standards, but I have no idea, why it is in the 1001 - list.

Loved it! Lots of croony classic songs - of the sort that get stuck in your head or you might sing whilst wandering round the house - sung by the lovely raspy reedy voice of Willie Nelson. Removing a star as, after the initial half a dozen or so, some songs weren’t as classic as others.

I like it a lot, and will surely listen to it more!

Jazzy, poetic, chill, just a good album.

Great batch of covers

Cozy ass album

The first thought that came into my head while listening to this was, “what a sweet album.” Not necessarily what I was expecting given what I know about Willie Nelson, but it was really enjoyable, and there are some great arrangements of classic songs. “Unchained Melody” was absolutely gorgeous and probably my favorite song from the album, but I really liked “Georgia On My Mind” as well. Overall, just very pleasant to listen to.

Not entirely sure how I feel about whole album of covers. The beautifully done and well worth listening to, but conflicted about its place here. However, giving the benefit of the doubt, the arrangements are beautiful and spare and gorgeous to listen to.

Willie Nelson is such a soothing, endearing singer and artist. Really liked his take on "Georgia On My Mind" and other familiar tunes. The one critical note is that the delivery and arrangements start blending as there isn't a ton of variety in expression or tempo or energy level throughout the album. Willie does Willie all the way.

A solid set of standards, arranged and performed well. What's not to like? Plus, it's Willie. Some of these are my favorite versions of these songs, especially Blue Skies. And I don't know why, but I've always gotten Christmassy vibes off this album. Plus, this album makes me think of my grandmother, who adored Willie. So bonus points for that. Thumb's up.

classic

Better than I thought it would be. Definitely not stereotypical, twangy country.

Wonderful mellow album, I was not aware country music could get this beautifully melancholic.

Loved this album. Can’t say I’ve listened to much Willie Nelson before this but I’ve always had a lot of respect for the guy’s career and enjoyed the songs I have heard. This was beautiful though. Great songwriting, hell of a voice.

Willie Nelson Sings The Classics! Nelson’s unique voice creates moving renditions of pop standards. He doesn’t have quite the range to hit every note in every song which leads to some interesting choices. Not a single 420 reference in the entire album.

Pretty decent, good tempo

I really enjoyed a lot of this. Far more than I thought I would. I haven’t done well with the country on the list so far but this isn’t really country.

Pretty stellar album for sure. Even if they are all covers.

Smoke em

Willie gör en platta med jazz- och popstandards. Fint såklart, men behövdes den? Fantastiskt stundtals.

Love this shit. Space station harmonica feel.

Erg smooth album met echt heerlijke covers

Mooi album

Sehr jazzy 3.5 Old school Jazz Moody Classy

Willie Nelson's takes on these covers are heartwarming, soulful, and full of softness and spirit. Nelson's voice, while taking the vibrato a little too far at times, meshes beautifully with the other instruments. The in-and-out trickling of different textures, such as harmonica, piano, horns, and strings (especially noticeable in songs such as Georgia On My Mind) is carried out fabulously. Now for the negatives. Many of the tracks sound very, very similar, indicating a limited ability to play outside a specific style and tone. Non-vocal instruments are only very rarely given moments to shine, and other vocals (e.g. backing) are not present. Also, it's a cover album. Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for this one. I'm bumping it up to 4 because of Nelson's happy charisma.

A short, sweet, and delightful 40 minute album. I wasn't expecting an Unchained Melody cover, but I loved it! Nelson's voice is a perfect medium between old, country music star and 20s cocktail lounge singer.

Some good covers

There was a time when I would have passed this off as easy listening fluff, and I would have been wrong, just like the label execs that initially disapproved of the album. But I'm old enough now to appreciate the subtle sophistication of these silky smooth tracks, and recognize there is a time and a place for this brand of sublime mellowness. Love that they recorded it in his house with a mobile unit. I feel that's reflected in the cozy and intimate sound. The spare arrangements and laid back approach compliment the material perfectly.

Pretty good! Had it on in the background while I worked, much softer than I had imagined

I have heard of but don’t know Willie Nelson’s music - Excellent first impressions, love the voice & the mood, goes well with this Christmas time I’m listening to it. Lovely harmonica. Beautifully produced. These are all covers of non country songs. He was born in 1933 & recorded this aged 45, he picked some of his favourite songs from childhood, all songs at least 20 years old. Very simple arrangements, no backing singers - to let the strength of the original songs shine through. His voice is the strength for me here, understated and very relaxing. Now interested & looking forward to hearing some of his own songs.

Great album of covers. Can understand why it was well-received at the time.

nice voice, classic calm

Kind of a touching bunch of covers.

I liked the chill vibe and the country elements

Really heartfelt and sweet sounding

I enjoyed it.

Songs to make you fall asleep while reminiscing about the good old days. Listening to this album made me feel good, nostalgic and warm. Love love this 🥰

It was pretty calm and I sort of liked it, yeah

I'm aware that these are all covers. But I have a soft spot for this brand of country. Quite good, actually.

Pretty good, I enjoyed the production and the songs rolled along nicely

Beautiful and soothing album. Enjoyed Blue Skies, Unchained Melody, and Moonlight in Vermont the most. I’d play this album in the back ground while relaxing or having dinner.

I have had a period of time earlier in the year where i listened to a lot of country, including Willie Nelson. I have to admit that i dont like him that much of an artist, which is mostly because i find his music somewhat soft compared to his persona. However, this is more an "I" problem, and not really a Willie Nelson problem, and i have to admit that this album grew on me as i listened it through. It will probably never be an album that i put on while at home, but if im going for a long drive through the night, it could be a fine companion.

Beautiful album, we don't deserve Willie

Willie!

Enjoyed, will listen again

The album and lyrics are good, but it's in the Bob Dylan zone where I'm not sure Willie is a good singer.

really nice

A nice change, wouldn't be that into country music but can appreciate this

Good album.

I enjoyed this quite a lot. Songs reminiscent of Over The Garden Wall.

Great working vibes; will listen again.

Willie is chill like that holy

I can’t see myself returning to this much, but it’s still great enough to warrant a 4 from me.

A classic cover album; a songwriter’s love letter to songwriters, best exemplified by Georgia On My Mind.

Un Jim Beam y un cielo estrellado, noche de sueño americano, buen disco.

Nunca un pacheco me había hecho sentir cosas tan bonitas con una bola de covers de canciones de los años 30. 4 estrellas

Very nostalgic and sweet. Simple and heartfelt vocals that puts emotion over show. The type of album you want on when you need to take it easy, have something to reflect on, or just want to hear a kind voice give you some joy.

Very chill but very pleasant. 4/5

Young Willie Nelson was a sensitive and tender man. When I saw this, I was expecting a unlikeable country ear sore, but in reality, this was a sweet album. There's a very excellent harmonica solo on here.

Great selection of American standards done as only Willie can do, Was not a big fan of Old Red, but this one is worth a listen.

Before listening to this album I read some of the backstory about Willie's wanting to sing a full album of pop standards and in all honesty I was skeptical of it just like his label executives. I had just listened to Red Headed Stranger which was incredible and I thought that a sudden shift in genre so soon after an album like that may not work and I was very wrong. This album from top to bottom was incredible. My favorite tracks were "Stardust", "Moonlight In Vermont", "All of Me" and "September Song" but all the songs on this album are really good. Despite me liking "Georgia On My Mind" it doesn't really hold a candle to Ray Charles' version but that is a really high bar cause Ray's version is one of my favorite songs of all time. I really respect this album because so often country music lacks innovation and that is likely because of the more conservative, traditionalist mindset of a lot of country artists. That is not to say an album needs to be innovative to be good but just to say it takes a lot of spine to go completely against the grain in a genre that does not really like people going against the grain. I'm also not one to hoist up an album if the artist experiments but it doesn't work but when an artist innovates and it works it creates some of the greatest albums of all time (e.g. Stevie Wonder, Outkast and Marvin Gaye). This is one of those times where innovation succeeds and it really allows Willie to fully show off his range. 9.5/10

Very relaxing! I loved the mix of genres

Solid album, but just wanted to listen to blue eyes crying in the rain. September Song for when I get married.

despite being folk, it's so calm and easy that is really enjoyable

Beautiful and melancholy

Such a dreamy record! Probably my favourite by Willie.

Blue skies with fresh ears sounds really good and I love how he double times at the end, stretching it out further and further. All in all, well made, but it's so easy listening, I get a little anxious for noise

Good classics! Knew most of these.

Willie has a beautiful voice that I didn't really know he had.

This is a nice and welcome departure from most of Willie Nelson's other works, and it showcases his versality and talents really well. So many great tracks on this album. I'm re-listening to his version of "Georgia" right now. Soooo good.

Should pick this up on vinyl.

I happily fell asleep on the first listen, this is a good thing. I listened to it a second time today, never been a fan of country music but i enjoyed it a lot. Beautiful singing over very melodic songs. The whole album feels like a road trip.

Love the romantic, mellow, voice lead sound. The soft use of strings and brass, the stripped down guitar, and the crooning style in which he sings. Moving and soothing.

First album that I save to my library. Exquisitely arranged and performed. Did not know some of this standards previously. What level of songwriting.

Another one that's really nostalgic since my dad used to play it all the time (and play/sing along on guitar sometimes). Not EXACTLY my thing honestly, but there are definitely some really pretty renditions here, and it's overall a very pretty and mellow listen, I can definitely still appreciate this one even if I'll never have a burning itch to listen to it. A solid 4.

nice instrumentals but not really a fan of the voice was gonna rate it lower at first but the songs are starting to grow on me

C’est très relax mais fun à écouter, même si c’est juste des covers

Lovely album of standards that Willie did his way. Reminded me of my grandparents.

I don't listen to much music like this, but it was a really nice sound for what it's worth.

For me personally, this album was an introduction to Willie Nelson when I first heard it. I don't really like country music, other than some specific artists, like Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash, and I suspect if had initially heard "real" Willie Nelson, I probably wouldn't have liked it much. This was a really cool career move on the part of Willie, he sang the hell out of these songs, and with good instrumentation and production, a lot of folks noticed, and he definitely escaped the "country" label as a result.

Great for being a cover album. Willie Nelsons take on the songs is pleasant and a joyful listening experience.

It’s a classic Willie album, what more can I say?

Outstanding

First 5 songs are very good. Gets weaker as it goes.

Good old cover album. Had a beautiful ambience and an intimacy between performer and listener that was well established. Would be rather influential as artists in the 00's in particular copied that somewhat lo-fi sound. An album well worth listening to.

as a native austinite, i [am mandated by law to] love willie nelson. he's an iconic figure in texas' history and mythology. he also has a great voice (in a kindly old grandpa sort of way, at least nowadays) and knows how to make a song enticing. I'm more familiar with his newer covers like Just Breathe, The Scientist, Have You Ever Seen the Rain (well, a new cover of an old song) so this album just felt like a regular ol' collection of songs to me, but given the willie treatment. very pleasant to listen to. it almost feels like I'm sitting around the campfire looking up at the stars (which, at least at night, are big and bright (but only deep in the heart of texas)) while willie strums away on his guitar. very nice. favorites: stardust, georgia on my mind, all of me

Enjoyed this one, relaxing to listen to and excellent vocals 4.25/5

I grew up listening to this album. It'll always have a special connection for me. A slower movong album that was still able to hold my attention as a kid.

So good. His compositions and portrayals seem simple yet are sublime.

Willie singing classics. Outstanding 4.5/5

Not sure what to rate this. I'm not a country music fan but I enjoyed this album. The songs that are not the big hits are really good also. Georgia 10/10.

Very nice and chill. Just what I needed to hear this morning.

Gives me perfect Over The Garden Wall vibes

Like a 3.6 I feel like Willie has better works

This isn't something I would put on regular rotation, but I enjoyed hearing Willie cover some classics. Makes for simple and comfortable listening.

I LOOOOVE THIS ALBUM 9

This is simple country blues and a very relaxing listen.

Oh þetta er svo kósí. Svo mikill afafílingur í gamla, sem er btw 45 árum eldri núna.

These standards albums are fun, especially this one. It’s nowhere near as good as Red Headed Stranger, but Willie putting his spin on some pop classics is just nice to hear. My favorites are the first four songs and ‘Sunny Side Of The Street’; they’re all enjoyable, though. Not an all-time classic, but a nice listen, with the two albums in this book showing two sides of his music, which is great.

Moments of beauty, moments of cheese.

Such a soothing relaxing album. Super underrated with his guitar playing. Simple touches that give the songs such emotion.

Lovely

The are no off notes about this album, Booker T’s arrangements are really strong. A great vibe to throw on for a dinner party, but not something I’d choose to listen to as art unto itself. Good covers to be sure, but this album is not why Willie is a legend.

Overall 8/10 Favorite Song - Blue Skies Really really nice album. Was a pleasant listen.

Big suprise, liked this slow jazzy county cover album

These sound really good

A beautiful and simple set of no-frills covers by a legend. What is there not to love?

Great album, very pleasant to listen to. Great arrangements of some real classic standards with very interesting vocal interpretations by Willie Nelson.

Was a little disappointed when I realized this was all covers cuz I was hoping this would introduce me to some oh Willie Nelson’s music but this was still a very pleasant listen. He also made all of the songs sound like his own too and I liked his mix of jazz and country guitar playing. Not much to say on this one besides it’s great to thrown on and relax too on a nice day. Actually, one flaw I have with this isn’t even much of a flaw it’s just that no one could ever make a version of Georgia on my mind that comes close to Ray Charles’ version.

Better than expected, this kind of country is honest, true, and beautiful. I can dig it.

I didn't think I would like this one but I rather enjoyed it. He's not a great vocalist, but his voice has a certain quality that's just... I dunno, nice? Not sure what it is. Just like it.

This album was a pleasant surprise. I've never listened to a Willie Nelson album before but always thought he seemed like an interesting person. I'm not a country fan but was willing to give this a chance. Reading that this release was a more conservative album of old cover songs, I really didn't expect much. But I ended up really enjoying this one. Very relaxing with some great performances. I'll definitely revisit this one occasionally.

Willie performed these songs beautifully and really made them his own. A great selection of standards performed with a lot of heart

I was surprised by this. Another album of covers of standards never twitches my interest but this was beautifully done. Gentle, sparce and great interpretations.

Beautiful songs

This is a cure for my weary soul

Simple and beautiful. It’s odd to me at first there’s an album full of covers on this list, but this is done so well.

I always thought of Willie Nelson as your typical stoner, not really worth looking into. But I’m glad this record popped in! It’s a very laid back album with some jazzy influence at points. He has a very silky smooth voice and lt fits the songs well. I might look into his discography more! 7,5 out of 10

what a lovely cute album. he's got Georgia on his mind 😄

If we're being honest, this is a bit over praised because everyone was so shocked that Willie put out an album of standards that was decent. And it's not a true representation of Willie Nelson (none of his signature songs will be found here, and one could probably name a slew of Willie Nelson songs before one from this album is name checked). The big headline track is "Georgia On My Mind" which Willie almost steals away from Ray Charles, no small feat. But credit most be given for Willie taking these standards and making them sound like they were written by Willie Freaking Nelson. I'm not shitting on the album - it's great. It's just not the Willie I prefer. Give me Whiskey River or Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground anyday. And besides, the best "standard" Willie ever recorded is "Always On My Mind", a song one could legitimately claim Willie did take from Elvis and turn it into the new gold standard.

Heartfelt and minimal.

I think "Charming" is the best description.

While I would have preferred or expected originals, I can't exactly be mad! Willie is great and these are great arrangements of classics perfectly adapted to his sensibility.

A solid offering from willie. It’s hard to get to excited since it’s all covers, but nice to listen to.

I liked this more than I expected to. In general, I find Willie Nelson to be a bit too "twangy" for me. These songs, given their nature, avoid that. This is probably one of the earlier versions of contemporary artists covering standards, so it deserves credit for that too.

These kind of records are my favorite. Timeless standards performed by an artist, who shows us yet again why these are so timeless to begin with. Willie brings a quietness and space to these songs that let them breathe and also show everyone that Willie is a truly great musician, connecting with these songs deeply and making them his own. I love these kinds of records.

Just quality singing and music, now I get why people like the guy

at this point in his career, willie took a left turn with an album of covers of pop/folk classics. i am a fan of when artists do covers and this is a great example of when it works well. the songs aren’t necessarily covered in a “country” style, but slower, more subdued, laid back. much like a quality whiskey, this one goes down smooth and is good for the soul. not a clunker in the bunch. highlights: “georgia on my mind”, “blue skies”, “don’t get around much anymore”.

I always thought this was WN's best album, I still like it but I would not put it in my own 1001 album list, 4 stars.

Beautiful voice rendering a bunch of classics at a quiet pace.

So jazzy mmmmm

Really enjoyed it.

I love this album! A great album for a nice relaxed evening.

Hangulatos amerikai dudorászás. Nem tudnék felidézni egy dalt sem utólag, de nem is biztos, hogy kell. Igényesen egyszerű, műfajában tökéletes.

Very chill album with top notch vibes. Will probs listen to more Willie.

Very nice.

Smooth. Blue Skies is my favorite.

Pretty good actually

Interesting to have my first Willie Nelson album be a cover album, but it was great all the same. Favorite track: All of Me

Skön och soft platta.

Beautiful album

Beautiful album, the country was never really my thing, but this album truly moved me.

Score: 70 Every song sounds like it belongs in toy story or the beginning montage of Up. Feels like the better songs are on the front half. Good production

Muy bonito. Unchained Melody, Georgia On My Mind

I have very similar feelings toward this album as I do to the last one I got: very pleasant and fun. The only difference is that this one is better due to it having more memorable tracks like stardust, Georgia on my mind, and *especially* blue skies. I know they're all covers but honestly, the only one that doesn't surpass the original is unchained melody.

My dad would listen to Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings when I was a child. I have not listened to any solo Willie and this cover album is so freaking good. I am very impressed.

Classy

Ooooh this is goooood. 3.8/5

Nice, great voice, a little pedestrian though

I liked it 👍🏻 might be getting an extra star here because it was a shite Monday morning and it cheered me up.

Cool album, pretty chill

This album was AWESOME. Idk if it was all covers but reminded me how great of singer willie Nelson is. One of those albums I expected to like but excited to get through but i savored each song

Réconfortant et cosy. Rien de bien notable dans un sens ou dans l'autre, mais une écoute agréable, une belle voix, des arrangements parfois un peu cheesy.

Very relaxing music. I think I'd return to this one if the mood strikes.

I always like listening to covers because it's interesting to see how an artist puts their own spin on the original. Willie Nelson isn't necessarily a singer I would usually go out of my way to put on, but this is just undeniably a dang good listen.

perfect for days spent alone forgetting about worries. Beautiful songs with simple and lovely messages.

beautiful

I went into this thinking that I wouldn’t be a fan, walked out a convert. This was a charming, beautiful album that I’d return to when I need to soften up like churned butter

Really relaxing and wholesome album. Can’t say there was a song I didn’t enjoy.

I loved this album. Listened on the plane after taking some NyQuil and it helped me peacefully drift off the sleep. 4/5

Really easy listening. I had a fairly stressful day, but this album brought me some peace. No individual songs really stood out, but the album worked for me as a whole. 3.6/5

Merry Christmas! This was a surprisingly really fitting album for this day. It was a very nice, chill experience. Willie Nelson's one of the few country artists that I can listen to. One of the best cover albums of all time - also coincidentally one of the best album covers of all time. Funny how that works out. I'm a master wordsmith.

really not a country fan but Willie's got such a great voice can't help but not listen to him and it's pretty harmonica heavy too which are not that big of a fan of

Mellow mellow stuff maaaaan. I dig it

"Country singer tries his hand on the Great American Songbook and other classics and succeeds". That would be a fitting headline. The album's mood is relaxing, calm and soothing, most of the songs are expertely arranged, played and sung. Unchained Melody sadly cannot reach the origninal recording by the Righteous Brothers and should have been left alone and off this collection. But apart from this single misstep, this is really a great album. 4/5

Soporific

Willie is so smooth!

What a lovely & soothing album. I very much enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this a surprising amount...

I love Willie Nelson and I really liked this album. 4/5

Great tracks in this one. The right length, a good time and so chill.

Jazz, pop. Versiones.

Muy bonito. Unchained Melody, Georgia On My Mind

Sweet tunes, calm classic

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Stardust, Blue skies, Unchained melody, September song

Willie Nelson!? Ugh... this is going to be a chore. *2 seconds in* - Ok, damn, those are some smooooth vocals. Yeah. Ok, I really like this. I'm not convinced by the entire album, but there's some really lovely tracks in here.

Nice and soft and sweet

Great cover album by Willie Nelson.

I don't know who were the authors of almost all of these songs, but these covers were extremely beautiful! I think I can't give this album 5 stars, since some of the songs were a bit forgettable, but it is a record than can be definitely listened over and over. Also, the cover art is pretty iconic.

I had never heard of the artist or this record but I was pleasantly surprised. Although none of the songs are original, they still sound great and Willie Nelson brings so much style and flair to these classic songs. A very beautiful listen and I'm very impressed by what Willie Nelson was able to produce here. Favorite Track: All of Me, Georgia On My Mind Least Favorite Track: Don't Get Around Much Anymore

Pleasantly engaging.

Blue Skies and All of Me are standouts. The arrangement is generally sparse, letting Willie do his thing. On the Sunny Side of the Street is another highpoint.

Soothing and chill album with a nice voice and good guitar work. I like it.

Unexpectedly good covers of the standards

Really loved this. Great covers that maintain a calm vibe with beautiful instrumentation and even the vocals were much better than I was expecting. Will be revisiting for sure

Not my first choice, but it's hard to go wrong with Willie.

3.5/5 . decent and chill in the background

What a surprise! I thought Nelson was only a country singer. He gives these classics a stellar performance, smooth and personal at the same time. Worth a repeat!

Imagine naming your whole album after a song you're just covering. The few songs I recognized, I think I prefer the original versions (especially Stardust and Unchained). In principle, I don't respect albums that are just covers AS much as original songs. But the album was still very enjoyable to me, and I could see myself peacefully and pleasantly listening to this album again. It does have a magic to it. Adding an old-timey country touch to these classic adult standards works well.

A little slow but very enjoyable

This is a fun album that has Willie stepping a bit out of his genre. There is a slight cheesiness to it but in a good way

Absolutely wonderful country music from Willie Nelson. I'm instantly sold as my first exposure to his music and plan to check out his new album, which I've also heard is great. This really is "watching the stars" kind of music.

Pretty interesting experiment to take music standards and put together a stripped down country western version. All pretty successful, and is easy to enjoy.

distinto a lo que suelo escuchar. muy bueno y de chill

Mais um ótimo álbum, um disco de covers muito bem feitos abençoados com a voz de Willie Nelson. Melhores músicas: Georgia on my mind, Unchained Melody e Moonlight in Vermont.

very pleasant country but without all of the annoying parts 4.5

Interessante, un country molto relax e funk. molto bella la versione di Unchained Melody

Very pleasant.

Старая классика в хорошем исполнении. Классный альбом.

Country gang Lande gäng

Warm like a campfire

Willie Nelson just seems like such a friendly and interesting guy, he'd smoke a joint with you and really go out of his way to get to know you. This was a really nice album, a collection of oldies covers, big band, jazz, but Willie puts his stamp on it and you have these beautiful acoustic renditions with some fantastic understated guitar work and his trademark voice with a bit more crooning going on. This was such a nice listen, and didn't overstay it's welcome at under 40 minutes.

Nelson makes this sound so easy, the whole project seems like kind of a softball pitch. Classic songs, straightforward arrangements, mostly voice and guitar. But the product is incredibly pleasing which hints I think that the simplicity is deceptive. Nelson nails every song and shows his great versatility as an artist.

Very good album, I like

Kinda slow but loved the harmonica. Would only listen to on some days

The songs are a bit cheesy, but the renditions are beautiful

Beautiful album art. I'm expecting a pretty album of sweet possibly melancholy songs about love. Looking at the track list I'm sensing this is an album of standards? Some lovely choices. I think I'm in for some low key pleasantness. As the first, eponymous track plucks out its sweet beginning I can tell immediately this is going to be a pretty little gem. If you are Willie Nelson and you can do what you want, why not make something nice for people to drink wine and get old together to? Warm and wonderful; he makes it seem so easy. Did this album change the world? No. Does it make the world just a little nicer? Yes. I'm glad to have listened and will probably get it out from time to time when the circumstances are just so.

While not typically my genre, this was very good.

A delightful, utterly charming set of covers that would make you believe that they were Willie originals. On an impeccable run during his immersive outlaw country era, Stardust finds Willie at the top of his game. Seek this out when you have the chance. Favorites: Stardust, Georgia on My Mind, Blue Skies, All of Me, Unchained Melody, September Song.

10 covers. I can see why it was a commercial success. I'm happy for everyone that loves it. But it ain't quite me.
