Reviews (page 7 of 13)

When I first saw Willie Nelson’s name I was a little bit apprehensive as I am not a fan of country and Western. This album is a lot better than that, it shows just how versatile he is as a singer covering very many different genres. Quite enjoyable as an easy listen .

slow but stardust is awesome

Beautiful vocal performance by WN, very subtle and classy set of covers here, surprising and really enjoyable

really great album. Willie's got a good voice that this album show. some of the songs are older than me.

Chique

Willie is the man.

Haven't listened to Willie Nelson before, and I've never heard an album with so many different covers kind of exploring someone's musical influences and history! Liked the music and the idea.

pretty good, would be good to drive or chill to

Easy listening.

Nice. Soothing. Great classics.

Hearing Willie warble over these classic standards reminds you that even without his originals, he's still one of the greats. Stardust itself is a tearjerker. Would give it 4.5 if we were doing halves.

A classic collection of standards. I'm a little confused why this album is included. It's a great album, no doubt, and I'm rating it a 4/5, much higher than a lot of albums on this list, but nothing on this album strikes me as particularly inventive enough to be included as an album I MUST hear. Even some bad 1 or 2 star rated albums, I can at least understand why they are included. But this really good album's inclusion just baffles me. Still, it's Willie and it's impossible not to like it (for me). Such a talented man. His version of Unchained Melody is my favorite (with Elvis' a close second). Elvis' is way more moving and powerful, but Willie's is way more intimate; it's a way a man would sing to his lover, not screaming in her face like Elvis.

This guy's voice is a gift. I mean, it doesn't matter what he sings. I even don't hate the cover of Under Pressure he did that was totally a misfire because his voice is so incredible. Country music is not my favorite genre, in fact, it may be my least favorite, next to whatever Brian Eno is, but there's something special about Willie. Here he goes back to covers, which is generally not the strongest form for an album. He does create a calming album here and stays away from typical country trappings and just makes these songs Willie. There's a lot to say for an album that can put you in a calm space, so I have to hand it to him there. I can't believe this album is from 1978 and it was his 22nd studio album! This guy's been rocking for a LONG time. The arrangements are nice, singer-songwriter style versions. It's an easy listen for sure.

Nice songs, saved one.

I was around at the time in the 70s, though not yet very well aware of music beyond ABBA. I'm sure I heard about Willie Nelson not long later, but just as a scruffy outlaw country crooner and eventually as an enduring pothead legend. This record has caused me to question and adjust my concept of the cosmos a little. Released in 1978, his 22nd studio album, covers of his 10 most beloved pop standards, and rendered unexpectedly tender and sublime. It went hard against him image and made waves at the time; even now decades later I'm added to the list of those bewildered.

Willie Nelson's voice isn't what you typically think of when you think good vocals. I mean, it's probably a 7 at best. But what he does with it and how his warbles can tug at your soul is pretty amazing. I normally don't like remakes (of classics or otherwise) but his (and Booker T's) interpretation and arrangement of them is great. I'm pretty sure this is one of Willie's records that my dad used to regularly play and while I didn't get it then, I get it now. A solid listen.

I would have way preferred this to be an album in Willie Nelson's trademark outlaw country style. Instead we get a bunch of covers of sappy, old, popular love songs. Still, even though it's not what I'd hoped for, this is pretty got. The songs may be more than sappy and the performance seemingly sparse, but the execution is flawless. It's not one that I'm likely to return to, but it was a great album for background listening during work.

Willie is always a good listen although this one wasn't his best. 4 stars.

After doing his famous outlaw country stint in the early 70's, Willie Nelson says "fuck it" and does a bunch of standards. He does a Duke Ellington song on here! How novel! Songs here are peaceful and sweat. I love that Nelson went in a slightly country pop direction with the added strings to give the songs extra depth. Just really soothing listens from Ol' Willie here. It's especially warm and cozy with the guitar on this record. Simply wonderful.

Welcome to America. Welcome to Nashville. We want Chilli Willie!

Thanks Willie, dit is prachtig

His understated voice is beautiful.

Lovely treatments of standards.

songs very soothing all about a girl but not really in a sexual way but more in a caring and compassionate living way it was nice and calming

This album is so very lovely!

Soft 4 stars. Wasn’t sure what I o expect as I’m not familiar with willie Nelson. I think it’s good that the first album of his I listened to were covers. A bunch of beautiful songs. Glad I gave it a shot

Mellow.

Lovely album with some classic songs

Was sure i wouldn't know any of the songs. Knew almost all what the hell

Nice country songs. "Georgia on my mind", "Moonlight in vermont", "blue skies". Liked it.

Quite liked Willie Nelson to begin with, but this album is amazing! Stardust and Georgia on my mind are my favorites, gotta learn to play that.

Love the jazzy nature of the guitar work. Beautiful. And his voice. Fuuug...

If there was ever an album that could make a grown man cry, this is it.

Spellbinding. Produced by Booker T.

Can't argue with this

Willie displays his characteristic crooning and soft, easy listening music in this album of both originals and standbys. It is a perfectly enjoyable and succinct experience that highlights his style and why he is so revered across genres.

Love me some cover songs! Like Willie, usually hit or miss for me on his stuff. Some I love, some just ok.

Very mellow, don't think I've listened to him much

Mellow. Soft listening. Relaxing.

Beautiful album

tracks Stardust - surprised by crooner vibes & how 'produced' it is, restrained orchestration 6/10 Georgia on my mind - sucker for the outro harmonica 7/10 blue skies - not sure why but not getting it. Odd for most listened to track of album 5/10 all of me - hints of nelson, meh? 5/10 unchained melody - when the guitar stops, the song pops. sucker for harmonica again. crescendo! 8.5/10 september song - grand piano and easily +1, still not stretching vocals? heartfelt saves it 7/10 on the sunny side of the street - ...why? never heard a distorted harmonica before, I now know why. 2/10 moonlight in vermont - reverb is great idea, harmonica solo is a little cliche but probs not for it's time, 8/10 dont get around much anymore - keychange is nice, 6/10 someone to watch over me - overall thoughts timeless? outlaw country has grown up and needs lounge music. wiki says the recording was stripped back / minimal. Would love modern minimal re-production. some standouts. odd this album over red headed stranger

Nice and calming

Not the best vocalist, but atmospheric versions of standards

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Title track is the standout for me, great guitar playing, great vocal and great vibe.

This is so good. Never heard before and I shall be keeping it close to hand from now on. Would rather give it 4.5 but 4 it is.

Wow! I totally never listened to Willie Nelson AT ALL, and in my head he was mostly a country signer. BUT this album is EXCELLENT. Wow!

Absolutely charming. Willie release a new album soon? Probably not...

A great classic!

i typically consider country to be a kind of blighted hell-genre, but this is really, really nice. this record is just really tasteful, strikingly so. it's soulful, mournful, romantic, almost jazzy at times and does it all with an air of effortlessness. the instrumentation is also lovely, the gentle keys, organ and strings sitting in the background, the harmonica and guitar playing - its all just very pleasant. this is the kind of album i'd love to listen to on a long drive at home during the evening favourite songs are: on the sunny side of the road, georgia on my mind, someone to watch over me

Very easy listening - could play & replay this album

Konstigt nog tycker jag om det... Det hade jag verkligen inte förväntat mig. Tror faktiskt 4/5 konstigt nog.

Groot fan van Willie, niet zijn beste album maar toch

Incredible. One of the best voices ever

Hungover me enjoyed this immensely. well produced and delivery is on point. 4/5

Amazing a classic!

The whole album is Willie doing a cover of his favorite songs. Excellent country voice. 8/10.

Great album, super chill, less country than I imagined. Blue skies, Georgia on my mind and unchained melody all great songs. Unchained melody is one of the best songs ever written, Willy Nelson's cover is really simple and not distracting.

quire relaxing, 4 stars

Oh yeah, this is gorgeous. Sparsely arranged, masterfully executed. I love that Willie's record company fought him all the way on this and it ended up being a ludicrously big success. Fave track - "September Song", but I suspect I might pick a new fave with each listen...

Classic.

Very good album. Easy to listen to. Lot of nice covers

Nice collection of covers. Wills has a away of making everything his. Like going to a concert of his. All the hits all the time

classic willie

Unexpectedly beautiful

Good stuff. Nice tracks all sound the same. Lovely guitar

peak 3am tears of joy right here. dang. did not expect to enjoy this that much.

Some really cool arrangements

Especially calming, this list is already off to a great start.

Liked more than I expected willisten again. Clam easy listening.

Fajny bardzo, Stardust bardzo ładne, cover On the sunny side of the street też bardzo mi przypadł do gustu. Georgia on my mind śliczna piosenka. Pan Nelson ma bardzo ładny głos i fajne melodyjki

a nice low pace album of good songs

Damn, 1001 albums generator really had to go and hit me in the feels.

Great singing and arrangements. Liked the low key approach.

This was a pleasant listen. Willie's got such a lovely voice, it's hard to not feel comforted and taken care of when he's on the mic. A nice selection of covers with good arrangements.

Willie's great. Everone loves Willie. And this might be one of the best cover albums ever. But what a snooze fest. Willie gets the bump for being Willie, but it might be a 28 in disquise.

Can something be almost aggressively pleasant?

I love his voice and guitar playing but him singing standards is surely a filler album, not an essential record? Anyway this was fine, I’d rather an album of his songs as he’s obviously a great songwriter as well.

Everybody loves a bit of Willie don’t they….

Very chill album. Probably best enjoyed late at night, having a beer, after everyone else has gone to bed. Pleasant enough, easy to listen to, not bad at all. Not a very interesting or exciting listen, but good for what it is.

i would have rated this a four if it wasn't a cover album, but i did really enjoy this. the twangy but smooth quality of his voice over these classics really made them special to listen to.

Can't hear it without thinking of Hank Hill. And I tell you What, it says alot that this is an album of covers, I don't think he added much to any of them but it's pleasant enough

Blue Skies is great and I'm sorry Willie but I have only listened to this twice now and I must give it a 3 lest I give literally everything on this list a 4 or a 5

cute. easy listening.. kan in de lijst van albums die ik kan aanzetten voor mijn ouders in de woonkamer

chille muziek gwn maar niet wowie

This was pretty. His voice is always good. And I was familiar with his cover of Georgia. It didn't quite hit today as I needed more energy in my music, but still liked it! 3.5

Pretty good, classic Willie, not my absolute favourite though

not his best album

Well this was a little delightful slice of Americana. Not my usual style but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Thanks, Willie.

🎧Thoroughly pleasant.

Accomplishes what it sets out to do, and does it well. I almost lean four stars, but I’m sticking with a strong three here because most of the lyrical content/song composition doesn’t do much for me. Nelson’s delivery makes these songs special, however, and warrants replay value on a special kind of nostalgic day. STAND-OUT SONG: “September Song” HONORABLE MENTIONS: “Moonlight in Vermont”, “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore”, “Georgia On My Mind”

잔잔하고 꽤 괜찮았다. It was calm and pretty good.

Hmm, starts glacial, stays that way. Old songs in 70s are now 50 years old. Just can't get into it. Reading the context is interesting but this reeks of sunday pub covers. 2.5 rounded up Heard before? Some Owned: No. 82/325 (25%) Will I get: No

OKey. Na 3. Nic szczególnego.

I have listened to a lot of Willie Nelson over the years, but never in the form of a full studio album. It's nice to hear the songs the way God intended. :)

Laid back, easy listening album. Didn’t mind it but not something I’d typically listen to.

Liked it more than I expected I would. The history of the album was enjoyable too. ("I'll make whatever album I want!")

Decent album

Some pretty solid country(?) music with noticeable blues and gospel influence. I think cute or cozy or good words to describe the vibe. The singer might annoy some people, but I thought he was serviceable. The instrumentation and compositions were pretty good (some covers in there?), and I think I'm going with my gut for a 3

Distinctive voices are highly valued in the US, but I found myself thinking that it's a detriment for me that I'm constantly aware it's Willie Nelson singing these songs. I think it's a slight barrier to immersion. That being said, they cultivate a reflective mood with careful arrangements and Nelson's earnest vocals it's not really an album that I would be eager to return to which means 3 stars

I’m a life long Willie fan, but this arrangements of covers doesn’t belong on this list.

Not the kind of album I would have expected to hear from Country rebel Willie Nelson, a set of jazz standards, beautifully arranged to showcase his voice which, it turns out, is well suited to the style. The album was a big success at the time, but it passed me by.

An easy listen.

I love Willie. Did he do the standards justice? Absolutely. Do I need to hear an album of Willie singing standards? No. I want to hear Willie singing his songs. He’s an amazing songwriter. He has so many albums of amazing material that it seems like a miss having this album on here.

Like Willie, meh album tho

Ootin rankkaa kantrirynkytystä, mutta sainkin samettista isojen veisujen versiointia. Yllätti ihan positiivisesti. Tietty kun on lautasellinen kovereita, niin se on silti lautasellinen kovereita.

Stardust by Willie Nelson was already Willie Nelson's 22nd album by 1978, which is an incredible achievement in itself. I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about an album of covers appearing on a list like this. Part of me thinks the list should focus on original material, but on the other hand, I love a great cover version, especially when an artist brings something new to the song rather than simply recreating it. That’s exactly what Willie Nelson does here. These songs feel completely natural in his hands, and his distinctive voice and relaxed delivery give them a warmth and character that make them feel like his own. The arrangements are simple, tasteful and timeless, allowing the quality of both the songs and the performances to shine through. This is a wonderfully easy album to listen to. It never tries too hard, never feels overproduced and just flows effortlessly from one track to the next. Even if I have reservations about cover albums being included on the list, there’s no denying that this is an excellent record. Favourite tracks: “Blue Skies”, “Georgia on My Mind” and “Stardust” Least favourite tracks: I enjoyed every track on the album. Nothing felt weak or out of place Album artwork: A simple but classic album cover that suits the music perfectly Album artwork: Really nice album cover.

Relaxing

This is music I will listen to on an evening just before sleep. Quite relaxing stuff. But there is happening to little to make it an outstanding record. 3/5

This old man is putting me to sleep, but in a good way (for once!) Favorite tracks: Stardust, September Song.

Interesting songs, nice vibes

Enjoyed this more than I would have expected given its pitch.

Good for Willie. Singing some classics. This is why he’s got 100+ albums. Kind of boring. But so is Willie. 2.5

This album is pretty good. Lots of classic songs, well done by Willie. I'm just not really sure I understand why it's on this list. Willie Nelson is one of the greatest songwriters in American history. He has over 100 albums. Why choose an album that doesn't feature his songwriting?

Not as bad as I expected. Still, the whole album is a little too cheesy for my taste. 3/5

Wenn man melancholische Musik mit... Country Musik mischt? Eigentlich sehr schön, coole Abwechslung zwischen dem Singen und Gitarren Soli. Vielleicht etwas zu langsam manchmal

fav songs: blue skies all of me warm, relaxed, country 50/100

Nothing wrong with this album but just extremely boring. Some decent covers and some nice sleepy tunes

I was born in the mid-seventies, so to me Willie is famous for being famous. I had never listened to an album of his before today, and couldn't name one if pressed. It is mostly collaborations and a penchant for jazz cabbage that brought him to my awareness. This album was pleasant but a little slow for my taste. I'm going to swing back to some of the outlaw country material for comparison. And smoke a joint. It just occurred to me that if they reboot Pretty Woman and instead of a young a fetching California call girl the object of the rich stallion's affection is a 67 year old chain smoking lot lizard in Enid, Oklahoma this album would be the perfect soundtrack. Let's make it happen, St. Angelo!

Pleasant enough but not great

Perushyvä rauhallinen albumi, arvostelen pidemmin pian

Äijä on kyl legenda.

Only after I recognized a bunch of the songs did I realize it was a cover album of standards. Was nice to listen to but didn’t feel like true Willie.

Thats a good album

Quite nice and sweet

Average country album, yet another americana snoozefest from this list. The stripped down production doesn't help either. Don't get me wrong. it's not bad by any means: it's nice as background music or as a western movie's soundtrack, but by itself it's pretty unremarkable, and if you try to listen to it carefully you will fall asleep, unless you are a diehard country aficionado. It's a 3 for the musicianship of Nelson, a 1 for the songs lasting power.

yeah, why the hell not?

Willie Nelson is charming. His voice is charming. His approach to guitar, to songwriting, to melody, his hair, his well known affinity for drugs, his very fucking presence, it’s all charming as fuck and it’s all uniquely his own. This is a cover album of songs done just like only Willie Nelson could do them. His heartrending take on Unchained Melody is the absolute highlight for me but I was mostly entertained throughout. Not every song is as captivating as some but they’re pretty solid. Real talk: the overall vibe is pretty corny, but Willie’s charm bears a lot of weight. As an album of covers this comes pretty close to graduating from a killer “set” to being an actual album by the strength of artist vision and singularity of mind in arranging their version to create something new that is theirs.

Nice album

Voor de juiste mood erg leuk

Muy lindo

A perfectly cromulent album

Not too shabby. Thought it was destined for a 4 but some of the songs were a bit more meh as it went on.

обложка гарная. понравился вступительный трек. подчеркнула с альбома выражение "life can be so sweet on the sunny side of the street". в остальном сказать нечего.

This wasn't what I was expecting, and I don't think I'd have sought out an album of Willie Nelson covering a bunch of standards, but you know, I didn't dislike it. Mainly carried by Nelson's voice, which I find pleasant to listen to.

Legendary artist. Not my cup of tea, 3

good banagrams backtrack

I think Georgia's on his mind

Nice and relaxing listening for my drive in this morning. Lot of songs I had heard before and I'm pretty sure most were covers but there might be some in here I'll be surprised to learn Willie wrote himself. Doubt I'll be listening much more but it gave me more of an appreciation for the artist beyond hearing my dad belt out On The Road Again every time I get in the car with him.

Hard to rate, it's a well done album but was incredibly boring.

Very pleasant album. I like classic Willie Nelson's voice, and he does a good job on these covers. I wouldn't classify it anywhere near my favorite cover albums or my favorite Willie Nelson albums, but it's eminently listenable.

liked september song arrangements by booker t really awesome, don't always love willie

A lovely, relaxing listen. The outlaw goes mainstream.

A little slow like his other one, but I think I enjoyed this one more than Red Headed Stranger.

It’s hard not to like Willie Nelson. He’s always been kind of ‘the acceptable face of country music’ for me. But I still don’t enjoy country music except in very small doses. This particular album is more easy-listening than country. It’s fine but I won’t have it on the playlist.

pas marquant

Chill jaime bien

Pas marquant mais pas mauvais

nice background music

Pleasant, well made, with some fine songs covered. Unfortunately, some of them feel like parody songs conjuring up mental images of Willie in a lounge suit.

#115/1001 🇺🇸 Covers albums mostly seem a bit unecessary, occaisionaly brilliant and some are downright dreadful. I'm not sure why Willie Nelson chose to record this when he always has so much to say in his own compositions. I was struggling to find much to get excited about here until Unchained Melody and September. It makes for good background listening and Willie has one of the most effortlessly beautiful tones but its not an album that i can really fall in love with. Best Tracks: Unchained Melody, Moonlight in Vermont.

Me gustó. Rara la combineta. También raro que mis pensamientos sean 100% positivos sabiendo que son género que no había escuchado mucho, como lo son el country y el soul. Termina quedando en 3 estrellas porque no puedo poner 3 y media. Buen descubrimiento.

Enjoyed much more than I thought I would. Some really lovely tracks

Cover songs through and through. While I am a Willie fan, and he's one of the greatest songwriters of the past 100 years, I do not think an album of him singing covers of other artists songs is in the top 1000.

I mean it was okey, i knew one song, but it wasnt that interesting. Good for studing though.

Nice covers :)

I feel like country music is way overrepresented on this list. But if my next album has to be a country album, let it be something by Willie Nelson - the kindest, gentlest man alive.

Willie Nelson on his A-game here covering ten pop standards

canciones de jaz de 10 minutos aprox

Want to give it a 4 cause it's Willie, but settle for a 3 because I don't like 95% of country music and country artists. Willie get's a pass, but not that much of a pass.

This was a nice album. I have never listened to Willie Nelson before. This was an album of just covers (I think). Overall a very chill album, very mellow. I could see putting this on later in the day to relax while having a glass of wine. Not sure I would buy this album but I would listen to it again

Nice enough, all very earnest but didn't grip me all that much

Smooth standards sung by the country crooner Willie Nelson. Good but a lot in the same tempo/style. Top tracks: "Blue Skies," "All of Me"

Lovely.

--Stardust...proof that a sustained organ chord can go a long way. very nice. my only question is why open with this? seems like a perfect closer --Georgia on My Mind...lazy and wonderful. Willie's doesn't use a lot of notes but he uses the right ones --Blue Skies...fun standard with positive lyrics but there's a darkness to it. minor key? I should probably learn music theory --All of Me...a little too Tin Pan Alley for me --Unchained Melody...prefer the Righteous Brothers' version but this is great as well --September Song...just realized where Kurt Vile got his name. I'm an idiot. song's beautiful. it's not just the notes, it's the space between the notes. yes, I'm also pretentious. we pretentious idiots are the worst --On the Sunny Side of the Street...bass is groovy and classy. just one of those Tin Pan Alley standards that is too cute by half --Moonlight in Vermont...beautiful orchestration. what a vibe --Don't Get Around Much Anymore...might be the worst thing Duke ever created --Someone to Watch Over Me...also pleasant but I'm ready to move on. good timing, Willie

Lot of harmonica. Soothing

Blue skies changed my very soul

This was super pleasant to listen to. There's a limit to how high an album of pop standards covers can get. Incidentally, my favorite cover Willie Nelson has done is American Tune from Paul Simon off the Across the Borderline album. It improves the original which is pretty great already.

Nice and smooth

I had zero hope or excitement when I saw this one come up but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

yea good shit. probably a 4 if i really get to know it

I could listen to Willie sing anything. Although I'd prefer his original music, it's fun to hear his take on some of these classics. Favorite track: Blue Skies

Charming and delightful covers of old standards, with Willie’s warble. This would be pure rainy Sunday listening bliss.

Nice background romantic dinner music

Willie is cool, nice easy listening

I liked it as the first country album. Country legend.

Probably a 3.5, I quite enjoyed the vibe of it. Good dinner party music but otherwise a bit of a nothing vibe.

2nd WN album in a row, what are the chances! First thing that hits me is the Stairway to Heaven callback. Also immediately it's more folksy, soft rock than traditional C&W. But is that half the fun gone? Also more bluesy/jazzy and soulful, even with swing rhythms and brass sections, so a big departure from Red Headed Stranger Blue Skies sounds very familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. All of Me also has a familiar melody. Is this whole album covers/samples and callbacks? Then Unchained Melody comes up! There's some context I'm not getting here.. September Song reminds me of Sound of Silence by S&G Best track - Blue Skies 3.5 stars - intriguing but not enough to regularly re-listen

Did not listen

Very well produced, some solid tunes, got a little bored by the end.

Some pleasant moment but ultimately pretty tired. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. Background music.

A laid back listen to familiar tunes, but probably didn't enjoy it as much as Red Headed Stranger.

nice enough

Da weed smokah

Good record, nice and peaceful and good to listen to while walking at night. Good to know WN is more than just weed advocacy!

gostei, mas escutei esse álbum enquanto quase morrendo de insolação então acho que prejudicou minha opinião sobre

Stardust

It was hard to finish it :(

The last time I heard Willie Nelson on here I was let down, so I wasn't particularly excited when this came up. I saw it was produced by Booker T. and that might've eased me into it. The cover looks a bit cheesy, like half a Disney poster. We have this vague initial input, and then we hit play. I appreciate an album dedicated to the classics. At times it can feel a bit gimmicky, but in a modern way. If someone told me this record was 2010 I wouldn't argue it. So not only can I see how impressive the production is, but I feel it might've been a standard influence for a lot of future vocalists. So, sure I'd buy the record at a discount price, but historic influence aside, only because of a couple of standout tracks and because it's got a smooth grandpa vibe to it. 3.1/5

Goeie vibe, lekker rustgevend

Listening session: april 2nd, while commuting to internship Listened to before: no Thoughts: I only realized a few songs in that these are covers. That makes sense now because I like the songs, but the the country style of singing not so much. Some songs are still pleasant to listen to though Favourite tracks: Stardust, Blue Skies & September Song

Exactly what a cover album should be

6.5/10 Tough to rate an album of covers. Willie's vocal delivery is characteristically laid-back and unhurried throughout, which creates some almost comedic moments - the "still mine" line in Unchained Melody lands completely differently when you're expecting the Righteous Brothers' crescendo and get Willie just being Willie. But that simplicity suits the intention. This is a personal, mellow collection of songs from his childhood, and it delivers exactly that. A relaxing, comforting listen that I quite enjoyed. Best track: Georgia On My Mind Would I revisit?: Maybe

This also not my favorite brand of Willie Nelson -- but it is still Willie! This definitely has a different vibe than some other Willie Nelson but I thought it was pretty good. If I could give it a 3.5 I would.

Country isn’t my genre but Willie Nelson’s voice has this draw that makes somber moments feel hopeful. Album did get a little boring for me around September Song. Georgia on my Mind is a personal favorite. If I heard this while walking into a Cracker Barrel I’d feel complete

Favorite part was the harmonica. Fav song: Georgia on my Mind

Mellow good time

Random thoughts: * I never even heard of this album before this list. Apparently this was Willie's pop breakthrough due to the accessibility even though it was more jazz and standards than traditional country. * However, that combination with Willie's distinct sound made this unique and undeniable. * I was surprised to not have a Wille album that had one of the songs I associate with him (Mammas, On the Road, Always on My Mind). * Again, it is sometimes hard to choose a single album to capture someone like Willie Nelson with a huge musical impact but not one key album. * Anyway, this was an enjoyable listen but doesn't feel like a must listen unless you incorporate all of Willie's influence and songs outside of this album plus taking into historical influence to know that without this album we might not have had the other Willie hits.

best all of me cover

Idk why it took me halfway through to realize this was an album full of covers. I think that’s due to how well done the album is. Nothing really jumps out to me but it’s certainly a pleasant listen.

This could have been called “Willie Nelson sings the Great American Songbook.” I do really love Willie Nelson's voice and delivery here. It doesn't feel as surprising or revelatory as "Red Headed Stranger" did, but it's nice. Is that all? Nice? Kind of. Well recorded, well performed, something I'll likely listen to again. But is it noteworthy, beyond being unusual for Willie Nelson? Was it impactful? Influential? Hard to say. People do love this album, and I can see why. It's a either a strong 3 or a tenuous 4... This is one of the rare times I wish I could do a half-star rating.

Its lovely but it's slow

Who doesn’t like Willie Nelson? He’s such a likeable person. These songs aren't really my cup of tea: slow, country-ified covers of old-timey standards. But there's something charming about them when Willie Nelson covers them. “Blue Skies” is the standout track for me. His laid-back delivery fits it perfectly. The whole album feels very effortless and relaxed. I mean, what else would you expect from Willie Nelson? Not really my thing, but it’s hard not to enjoy the charm when it’s on.

I don’t expect covers to sound like the originals. In fact, I often prefer it when they don’t. Each artist should put their unique stamp on a song. That said, I respect Willie but did not enjoy his choices here. Maybe if I hadn’t known better versions of many of these songs, I wouldn’t have minded his vocal limitations so much.

This is Willie Nelson queening out and I love that for him.

It's nice. Some good songs, nothing groundbreaking but it doesn't need to be. 3.5/5

It's just ok, no wish to listen it again

Interesante fusión entre country, jazz y pop de principios del siglo xx. No está mal, pero no es mi estilo ni del excesivo gusto de mi oído.

This is very fun to listen to. It reminds me of my dad.

Saved? ✅ Would listen again? ✅ Would recommend to anyone? 🤔 Would buy on Vinyl? ✅

Je suis un peu partagé. C'est pas mal, mais en même temps c'est un peu out of character et kitsch. Limite déprimant aussi.

This was just okay to me.

I like the Georgia song on this one

Love Willie and his odd phrasings. This album was a mixed bag, however.

Easy going

Gonna start with this: love me some Willie Nelson. Having seen him live, I can attest he draws crowds from every demographic out there: oldies, college kids, black, white, hippies, working class, yuppies, and middle aged guys like myself. Willie started out as a songwriter, until someone (Larry Butler, apparently) refused to buy his songs and encouraged Willie to put voice to them. And the rest, as they say, is history... Willie is an American original, and Stardust is his attempt at singing songs from the Great American Songbook. Not his greatest, but some really good ones here. Georgia On My Mind, All Of Me, Someone To Watch Over Me are all classics and he does them justice. On the other hand, no one can do Unchained Melody better than the Righteous Brothers. Why try? Arrangements are dated and the harmonica overdone in some songs. Love Willie, love some of these songs, but this falls into Good Not Great territory. Probably 3 1/2 stars, but closer to 3 than 4.

Willie Nelson is charming, but with no original content this album is just a bit flat. On the stronger side of 3 stars but never really threatened being a 4. - Hype for WIllie Nelson - Strange vibe on the first song, curious where this goes now - Turns out this is all covers. Not really hitting the same but apparently this is his most popular album! - Enchanting but with no original content it's just a bit flat. Really emphasizes that the previous album (bland folk) should have been a 2 for being just so boring

Thought I would hate this at first but it's actually not too bad, it's quite pleasant in the background. Favourite track was Unchained Melody.

Hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that Willie Nelson has 150+ albums and I haven't listened to an entire album of his until this one. I was not very impressed but I definitely didn't hate it. I look forward to hearing more Willie on this list.

The mix is super clean and classy but the overall structure feels a bit too empty for my taste. Since I am not a huge fan of country vibes it just did not click enough to be more than a decent background listen.

Never really listened to Willie Nelson. This probably wasn't the best way to start but a good enough covers album

lindo, relajante, él tiene una gran voz.

There was really nothing to dislike about this one, and I had heard a couple of the tracks before. I enjoyed side one more, and it started getting a little old for me by early side two. But overall, an enjoyable experience. It’s a three star album for me.

Peaceful and easy to listen to

Soft, slow and smooth. Perhaps not what we always reach for but it definitely has its place. A few familiar songs on here as well.

Not bad for a country album, but not very special either.

Actually, for a country album I kinda liked it! Stand-outs - Blue Skies - On the Sunny Side of the Street

Before: I never listen to Willie Nelson but do like some songs from him. Looks like this album might be a bunch of covers. During: 3 tracks in, all covers so far. They are decent interpretations but nothing special. I mean he does have a pleasant and unique voice but that's not enough for me to be interested in listening to a bunch of covers. I do think at least one of his albums should be on a list such as this. I see he has another one on here, I hope it includes original material. I'll probably give this one 3, in large part due to it's all covers. After: Works great as background music.

A bit too mellow and downtempo for my current mood - will probably return to on a rainy day. But some excellent songwriting nonetheless. And interesting instrumentation on quite a few tracks (really digging some of the organ work). Some standouts include Blue Skies and Unchained Melody.

No one sounds like Willie. What a treasure. Having said that, this one is a bit boring.

The compositions are good and I think this could eventually grow on me. 3.5/5

Enjoyed listening to this one

Didn't like my first listen as much but liked the second listen a tad bit more.

Easy easy listening. Recognisable voice that makes you smile when you hear it, no matter what song.

Not crazy about so many covers

3.5 i like it, legend

I quite liked Willie's laid-back whimsical covers. Georgia On My Mind sounded effortlessly sweet. I wasn't as convinced with how well some of the others worked, his Unchained Melody for instance isn't a patch on Righteous Brothers, about as good as Robson and Jerome, but shits on Gareth Gates.

Initially I was going to give this album 4 stars because I didn't realize all of the songs are covers. I really liked the soft and gentle guitar and acoustic instrumentals in the background. The songs are amazing of course and I am so grateful that this album introduced me to some amazing songs that I could go find better covers of but I didn't like Willie Nelson's vocals. They lack an immense amount of souls that the melodies need to really seal the deal. Although I liked to imagine that some bald man in his 50s with a big round belly and a button-up shirt in like Indiana is sitting on his porch on a rocking chair and listening to this album thinking Willie's voice is perfect. I am none of those things so to me it wasn't hitting. I also liked the album cover. I would give the album two stars after all things considered but I am so so grateful it led me to Frank Sinatra's cover of Moonlight in Vermont so I will give it 3.

I love Willie, and I’ve heard this album many many times. These are all songs that every American should know, and I enjoy Willie’s style. But- the song selection is very uneven for me. A few I love, most I really don’t. Overall it’s gonna be - THREE STARS

A great collection of standards by a legend. Really enjoyable album. Highlights: "Georgia on My Mind" and "Unchained Melody"

The songs I liked here, I really liked. The ones I didn't weren't offensive to listen to or anything, they just weren't for me. Notables to me: Blue Skies On the Sunny Side of the Street Don't Get Around Much Anymore

I have a pretty long history with this album but I kind of forget about it sometimes. It gets almost as much love as Red Headed Stranger but never hit for me the same way. It’s really the prototype for Dylan’s Sinatra trilogy in the 2010s, a series of albums famously beloved by exactly one person (me). When this album is slowed down, it’s a beautiful melancholic vibe. Makes me want to sit in a smoky black and white room and ruminate on all the mistakes I’ve made in my life, including but not limited to listening to that spacemen 3 album. When the album gets more upbeat, it loses me. The highs are high, the lows are low, sounds like a 3.

Maybe this isn’t the “essential” Willie Nelson, or perhaps it is a solid intro to the guy. I recognized several of these songs, so the “oops all covers!” angle he took here worked for the most part. It’d be 5 stars if he made this with more recent pop and did a rendition of Ginuwine’s Pony and Charli XCX’s 360. I def want to listen to some of his original albums now to further explore this artist beyond just knowing him as a symbol of what country used to be.

Love Willie but really didn’t care for much of these covers, honestly it’s not awful just prefer Willie being Willie instead. But I can respect the idea, and he sounded pretty awesome on most tracks still.

Willie Nelson in his crooner era liked it more than I thought I would

It’s was cute

I enjoyed listening to this album but ultimately it was probably not the best introduction to Willie Nelson. Perhaps the situation was different back then and these songs were not much covered, but now as I recognised each one I immediately thought of other versions I preferred. The production sound was light and very acoustic which added to the relaxed mood. Willie Nelson's voice did not work so well for me though as most of these songs sound better to me with other voices and more interesting arrangements. Would welcome some more Willie Nelson featuring his own compositions.

Wow, a serious Willie Nelson album! And country too! This one was great. Honestly more crooner than country. Not what I expected.

Willie Nelson singing standards with a bit of country flavor. That's not something I would have ever expected even existed. It's good for at least the first half. Willie has the right voice for this (although it does seem a bit too low and slowed down at times). The arrangements are great. But it gets a little boring by the end. Georgia On My Mind is the only song that I really loved, and that may just be because I love the song. Ray Charles does it much better, but Willie's version is different enough to be great in its own way. 3.5

Willie Nelson is a name I've heard for years, but his music was foreign to me until I first heard Stardust. Nelson gave all ten songs his own country twist and it turned out nice and simple.

I actually kind of enjoyed this, and wasn't expecting a more atmospheric, jazz-leaning pop country album from Willie Nelson. There's practically zero trace of the outlaw/bandit stylings which set my teeth on edge, in favour of some genuinely lovely, delicate soundscapes. I'm not sure I recognise any of the original versions of these covers, so I might have to seek them out to know if they've been dealt ample justice here, but my unlearned assumption would be that they have.

Might use this album to help me sleep, and I mean that in the best way possible. Just nice, relaxing and pretty unassuming for 35 mins; could totally imagine hearing Georgia On My Mind or September Song in some dimly lit chill bar late at night. Probably better for background listening cause there isn’t a great deal of variety here but I guess there doesn’t need to be

Sometimes there’s a lot to be said about a simple idea done well- and this is very much a case of that. The purity of willies voice and the sheer quality of the songs of the American songbook result in this slight but lovely album

Willie coming across stoned as Sesame Street on this album

Fløde musik. Man skal ikke have for meget af det. Men en gang i mellem er det okay

Great vocal performance but a bit low energy for everyday listening

Kauniita klassikkokappaleita selkeän yksinkertaisesti sovitettuna, konstailematonta omalla tavallaan kaunista laulua, erinomaista torkkumusiikkia (hyvällä tavalla)

Wouldn't be my pick for when I want to listen to Willie, but wonderful arrangements, and his unique voice adds great color to these pop standards.

snoozefest, kontam da zene od 50+ gotive ovo

Willie Nelson, live from the cocktail lounge!

A nice record that I enjoyed every minute of. But prefer Willie’s actual country stuff over his interpretations (good as they are) of standards.

Very very very very bland, and not very memorable in any way.

Easy listening - probably more enjoyable as background music than solely for entertainment as its not the most engaging or interesting in terms of variety. There's definitely a time and mood for this.

Incredible for bed time

Supongo que it wasnt a match made in heaven.

Some classics on here. Really nice relaxing country music.

Lovely if a bit sleepy

The words that kept coming to mind as I listened to this were 'pleasant' and 'sleepy'. I listened to it early in the morning, but I think it would work better as a winding-down-for-the-night sort of listen.

I love Willie Nelson, but this is far from his best output. Good for background music at a dinner party but this is not him at his rebellious outlaw best.

No problem with Willie, but slow and a lot of covers

Album 21 Top 3 favorites off the album: Georgia On My Mind, All of Me, Moonlight in Vermont This is a bit of a rambling review (which ones aren't, though?), so bear with me. A pleasant listen, as usual. It was fun to listen to a full cover album! I don't do much of that! Everything was fairly relaxed as far as tempo, and Nelson's reimagining of these songs gave them a different life. I especially enjoyed All of Me; while I'm not always a country enjoyer, I have to give it credit for being a genre that is fairly adaptable and has been pretty good as a vehicle for a lot of different types of fusion. I *am* an avid jazz enjoyer, and happily give it credit for the same. Put those two together, and this take on All of Me is just phenomenal. Don't Get Around Much Anymore reminds me of music at the Stardrop Saloon in Stardew Valley. I am a casual Willie Nelson enjoyer, and he's an artist my brother and I have in common. He also reminds me of a gift from my best friend. Yay Stardust! Yay good music!

a very relaxing slow country track. nothing inspirational and i guess all songs are just covers but cant go wrong with willie nelson. great vocals, great guitar. the album equivalent of a straight-a-student

Willie Nelson covers some great songs. Not the thing that I come to this list for, but pretty good all the same

Perfectly enjoyable covers, but nothing groundbreaking. It's not what Willie Nelson is best at, frankly, but it all sounds nice.

I really enjoyed this one, the harmonica was awesome.

I know Willie Nelson has a lot of music, but when I read it was his 22nd studio album….I mean, wtf. I asked Grok how many he has. He has fucking 104 studio albums (78 solo + 26 collaborative ones). Mind-blowing. It’s a full cover album, all of the songs are American standards (Great American Songbook), but performed in Willie Nelson’s style. Some facts: - Stayed at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart for years (over a decade in total on the charts) - Sold more than 5 million copies in the US alone - Produced three #1 country hits: "Georgia on My Mind," "Blue Skies," and "All of Me" Great. upd. And it's Ron Swanson's favorite artist, it means it's automatically top-tier artist 3/5 ———————————— Liked songs: — Blue Skies — Unchained Melody — Someone to Watch Over Me

Very pleasant to listen to. Beautiful cover versions of some well known songs like Unchained Melody, On the Sunny Side of the Street and Georgia on my Mind. Willie Nelson not doing his normal thing here I think. 3 out of 5

Very pleasant.

It's quite pleasant, but it's nothing spectacular

Shame about the singing

very cosy, can feel myself curling up infront of my nonexistent fireplace with my nonexistent rocking chair. A cup of hot chocolate with mini marshmellows and knitted quilt and dozing off.

Stardust - 3 Georgia on my mind - 4 Blue skies - 4 All of me - 3 Unchained melody - 4 September song - 3 On the sunny side of the street - 3 Moonlight in Vermont - 3 Don't get around much anymore - 3 Someone to watch over me - 3

Certainly not my type of music, but I found the album both soothing and enjoyable. 7/10

That's a bit of a weird one for me. Quite a few of the tracks on this album are favourites of mine, but they were all recorded by someone else. The other versions seem far superior to the versions on this album, but I do appreciate that opinion may mostly be borne out of familiarity. That being said, I'm not a fan of his vocals at all. A 3 feels about right, it's nowhere near a 4 for me and a 2 is probably slightly too low.

actually was more interesting and chill than i thought it would be Would I listen again? Maybe Deserves to be on this list? Probably 3.4

Pleasant but unmemorable

okay but not my jam

Nice. A move away from the country that Nelson is most loved for. A good album for before bed but not really my favourite from him

Inoffensive and charming but forgettable

Sure it's a bunch of covers but it's easy listening. Fave track: Georgia on My Mind

Way too slow for my liking. I can see why other people like it. All the songs fit the album well, just not my cup of tea. Album art is also beautiful.
