Reviews (page 11 of 13)

It's not London Calling, but the formation of Punk is still there.

Pretty good sound but I can’t for the life of me understand anything they’re singing

Classic Clash

I liked it, but was mostly struck by how much better they got.

Went into this expecting it to be bland British punk. Left thinking this was actually pretty solid and a little less bland than most other punk we have listened to so far. The guitar solos were pretty dang good throughout. Cheat was the best song, loved the effect at the end. Overall I think the last half of the album was a bit better than the first half, but not enough to push it to a 4 star.

Perus....

An okay punk album, but some of the later Clash albums are better in my opinion

I expected more from this.

I get that they're important for the development of punk/ska and modern Rock, but the clash just aren't my thing. This album is good, but doesn't resonate with me personally.

6/10. Sounds like The Clash, who I generally find a little bland. They have some exciting energy, which works on this shorter, fast-burning album, but it's rare that I really like one of their songs much

Slightly better than London Calling since it’s more punk and less dub and doesn’t last for over an hour. Still has the same fundamental problem of terrible vocals. 5/10

Very much a necessary album for The Clash - they needed to get this album out of the way so that they could move onto their classic sound. Sounds like it was recorded in a teapot though Police & Thieves and White Riot stand out

This is good, but it doesn't quite grab me in the same way London Calling does. A strong 3.

the clash!!!! i know these guys -going back to the OG punk stuff. which i love -its a lot of fun to listen to -favorites: hate & war, garageland -overall this is the type of music i wouldn’t usually listen to but im into it -im going to honest i dont like it as much as i thought i was going to -but its not bad!!!!!

It’s no London Calling

Heard it so many times I can't be objective. Charming that this was considered tough sounding at the time.

Better than expected, but I probably had unfair expectations, can Listen to this again

It's the clash, it's punk. I've never heard anything off this album before, but it has everything you would expect from a classic punk record. Raw instrument, raw vocals, loud. Excellent representation of the genre

Pretty good but not their best.

I am not a big fan of punk so I find it hard to listen to it and find any value in it for me. Average album

Got this one right after the Sex Pistols. Can't help but compare and constrast. The songs on this one are mercifully shorter. The lyrics are smarter, but the instrumentation has less speed and passion. It's more cerebral punk, but that's not what I come to punk music for. Was tempted to give this 2 stars, possibly due to punk fatigue, but the second half is stronger; it has more heart that I initially thought.

Yeah, ok?

Although it's early Clash, they still get the vibe pass of pure british punk rock.

Overall: What is the overall style and genre of the album? Punk, hardcore? I dont really know genres well to assign sub-genres Are there any standout tracks or moments that resonated with you? Hate & War was the best track on the album. Class consciousness came through in the second half of the album which we always stan. Didnt like the mixing, lots of panning and instruments in one ear, Cheat was the worst offender for this. How did the album make you feel? Did it evoke specific emotions? It was good. Energetic is the "emotion" I felt. made me want to get up and do stuff Did you enjoy listening to the album overall? 5/10. It was a fun listen, not un-enjoyable but I think I'm unlikely to ever seek it out again. I know that they have a reputation of being a classic and loved by lots of people so I felt a little guilty while listening that I didnt enjoy the album all that much. Would you recommend this album? Who might particularly enjoy it? No I dont think I'd tell anyone "yo you gotta check out the clashes ST album from 1977." A bit late to put someone on to it. Also I didnt like it enough to recommend it. I do think Danny would love it, hes a big fan of the clash, I think London Calling is one of his top 5. Album Notes: Not sure if this is Seinfeld effect or something. I feel like there are a lot of things that I like about punk and rock in general but I've got the advantage of 50 years of development in the genre. I liked the instrumentals but I found it really hard to get over the unintelligibility of the vocals. Would I listen to this album again?- Not unless it was already on, that is to say that I wouldnt seek it out, but I wouldnt complain if it was on. Track 1 Jaine Jones: Dont love his voice. Bass stands out. Track 2 Remote Control: Lead guitar is fun. Hate the vocals, turbo marbles. chorus-y gang vocals are fun Track 3 I'm So Bored with the USA: Again intro is a bop until the vocals come in and then I cant fucking understand him. "Bored of the USA" - same bro Track 4 White Riot: Its fun, I agree that I want to riot too. Gotta say though, listening in 2023 makes me cringe cause I can only imagine what the right wingers would do with this song if they found it. They think rage against the machine is their music. I can only imagine "White Riot" playing on at least one bluetooth speaker on Jan 6th... Track 5 Hate & War: Best song on the album so far. Track 6 What's my name: Tone change. AYAYAYAAAYAYY AYAYAYAYAAAYAYYYA Track 7 Deny: no notes Track 8 London's Burning: Fuck this track holy shit. Track 9 Career Opportunities: Again 10/10 intro, and then the vocals come in. Overall a bop Track 10 Cheat: Some one found the panning slider on the mix deck holy shit. Track 11 Protex Blue: why is the guitar only on my left side. huh bad audio tech no cookie for you. Track 12 Police & Thieves: The more things change the more they stay the same... Also tho what the fuck. average track length 2 min then this 6 min track comes in, holy hell. Track 13 48 Hours: Track 14 Garageland: "in the garage again with by bullshit detector" great line. I dont want to know what the rich are doing. Also love that.

Not my favorite Clash album, but I enjoyed the 3 listens!

Love the energy on the album, but it is very monotonous for how long it runs. I appreciate that the boys would diversify their sound later.

the chord changes early in 'remote control' made me think i was finally going to get this record - but alas i did not - not the song or the album on paper this is for me. its a punk classic. strummer is so incisive. but most of the tracks i find forgettable.

Fairly average debut.

It's alright, occasionally thought I was listening to Buzzcocks. The vocal impression of an echo chamber at the end of 'Police and Thieves' amused me.

top tracks: im so bored with the usa garageland

It’s IK

Ok. The songs sound a lot alike.

This is punk AF and I ain't about it. This is some of the more palatable punk I've listen to though. 🤷‍♂️

p378. 1977. 3.5 stars. Shouty garage band with some decent tunes that got lucky - right time, right place. Incredibly influential at the time, but hasn't aged well and there is a lot of filler.

"The Clash" from 1977 is an alright debut studio album from the punk band. It is indeed a Mixed bag since it ranges from some great punk songs to mediocre punk. Songs like "White Riot" and "Career Opportunities" are nonstop headbangers while songs like “What’s My Name" are easily skippable. Not as replayable as the favored "London Calling" but keeps it short and energetic enough to keep you entertained. Good lyrical topics too!

This inclusion feels more like a "best first record" or "rookie of the year" or "new younger poets" or a retroactive lifetime achievement award, because this, while biting and high-energy and tightly played, is a bit monolithic and not throat-grabbingly cool at first listen, though it improves as it goes along and last several cuts, including "Cheat," "Police & Thieves" and "Garageland" confirm it's much more than punk and points the way forward to better records. One would like to weigh the relative merits with the poppier "Combat Rock" of one's youth.

I feel bad I just find this boring

Not my style

Was quite impressed with the variety of riffs and Melodie’s on this album. Thought we were in for a 35 minutes of an album that sounded like one song. Gained a little more respect for old school punk music after this listen. I can’t give this anything higher than a 3 because of the punk vocals that make my ears bleed.

Never really got into The Clash, however there are some fun punk tracks on this album. 48 Hours has some great gang vocals. Janie Jones is a good opener. White Riot is a great track. I don't love the Police and Thieves cover but otherwise fairly solid album.

The recipe for a good song title: “London (insert verb here)” This album is great for writing an email that you know people won’t read but you spend an obscene amount of time on it, just in case. I don’t listen to punk a lot, but there’s no deny-ing this is The Clash. Their brilliance pretty much lies with their frontman Joe Strummer and his aura. With one of the best rock n roll names of all time, he didn’t really need to weigh many career opportunities because he was born to do this. I listen 1.5 times as I didn’t mind it, but there wasn’t anything special for me here. My favourite on the record is I’m so Bored with the USA. The lyric and delivery of the chorus is just the best, one of those catchy punk melodies. And frankly, aren’t we all a little bored with the USA by now? I see a theme appearing in this list: Early albums of more well-known acts that don’t necessarily contain their largest hits. Are they treating us or are they cheat-ing us? Who’s to say. Onto a weekend album, where we have 48 hours+ to listen.

Love The Clash but this was the first time I'd listened to this album which, in my opinion, is a step bellow their later offerings. Still a fun listen, much more straightforward punk than their later sound. I'm a big fan of Joe Strummer, as comical as his voice may be. White Riot stands out as a favourite and I like the history behind the song! Would listen to this while working or running.

This album is pretty ok. The pure punk sound is just a bit much for me over an entire album. I really like the songwriting from these guys overall and the instrumentation is decent. The singing is great if only because I love the hilarious classic Clash singing style. I never listen to this album despite enjoying the Clash a lot, just due to how it's fairly monotonous and I get tired of it. Mostly, listening to this album just made me excited that we would eventually certainly see London Calling pop up on this list.

The Clash is the debut album by English punk rock band the Clash. It performed well critically & commercially and has been ranked as one of the greatest punk rock albums of all time. Critics described it at release as one of the best "rock and roll" album - punk rock wasn't a genre at the time. I enjoyed listening to this album, although I didn't find many of the tracks to stick out to me as amazing. Obviously it's an early iteration of punk rock, so it's different than today's, but the music is good quality and was exciting. This is a good album for rock - specifically punk rock - fans.

Decent but never got the big deal

Early punk is always good!! I would say they stuck to one sound the whole album. Favorites were I’m so bored in the USA and Police and Thieves

Hard to review in a vacuum. 1) knowing that outside of the Ramones and Sex Pistols this is one of the first punk acts to breakthrough, so I’m sure it was very new and interesting. 2) I know the absolute genius they put on with London Calling. The album didn’t wow me, but I found myself enjoying it and I love the snarl of Joe Strummer’s voice.

It's the clash.

It was fine. Idk, are these album supposed to be life changing? They are mostly just okay?

The sound/style was very consistent all throughout. I wonder if this is to be expected with older albums due to the limitations of technology. Not stylistically, but recording-wise. But I'm probably underestimating what can be done. The style didn't mesh too well with me; that combined with the consistency of that sound throughout left me thinking "Eh. Was fine, won't listen again." If it were playing at a party, I wouldn't complain. Good album for that. Lol.

Decent. Far better than contemporary punk albums at the time. Can see the influence on almost every punk band after them. Wouldn’t re-listen to it often enough but appreciate its pioneering sound

I was already familiar with a handful of songs, but hadn't heard the whole album before. Fairly enjoyable as a whole, however it all blurs together, and apart from a few exceptions, most of the individual songs don't stick with me after I've finished listening. Solid 3/5. Highlights: I'm so Bored with the U.S.A., Police & Thieves

When is Rock Lobster going to play? These songs would make it on the soundtrack of Tony Hawks Pro Skater games. Any of them would because they all sound the same. Police & Thieves had me tapping my foot and reminded me of a song David Bowie would sing in the Labyrinth. The remaining two songs are forgettable.

3.5/5 (it didn’t let me do half stars) I did enjoy the album and felt that many of the themes presented back in 1977 still remain somewhat relevant today e.g. worker dissatisfaction, police brutality and criticism of US military involvement (Vietnam) The album was mostly made up of many very short songs with most of them no longer than 2 minutes. I did feel this may have help contribute to me finding that many songs blending into one which did cause the Album to become a bit same-ish at points. Never the less the album did have some songs that stood out to me. Favourite songs: I’m so bored with the USA White Riot Career Opportunities Police & Thieves Overall, it’s not my favourite Clash album but it was still good

Very weak 3 star, stronger two star.

not my type of punk but i like it

listened to again the origins of punk

3/5 I liked this album, but I don't know if it's cause I'm learning about English Punk Rock or my values are changing or if they were good. I feel confused. Lmao.

I ummed and ahhed over the score on this one and have settled for right down the middle. One song irritated me but other than that the album was okay. I don't think I'll revist but I didn't hate every second so... Progress? Or a bar that's been lowered? Tune in next time to find out!

overall a solid punk record. However I have trouble listening to their vocals because of the frequent screaming and all, so I have to pull up the lyrics for this album.

I am not a fan of punk rock, but The Clash hits different

Not my usual style but most songs didn’t phase me and i liked the raunchy sounding vocals

British as fuck 3.5

I always did like White Riot pretty good. The energy here is pretty great. But yeah, not much keeping me listening.

It speaks volumes that the best track here, 'Police and Thieves', is a cover - and one that doesn't touch the original. There are other good tracks here - 'White Riot', 'London's Burning' - and the songwriting is a cut above the norm, but this isn't the finished article. Energy aside, the Clash had some evolving to do. Here they take their musical cues from the Stooges and the New York Dolls, but they're don't possess the danger or sleaze. There's a peculiar restraint at play here. Strummer tries to sound like he means it, man, but his mush-mouthed delivery verges on the ridiculous at times. I don't like him as a singer. Pretty good for all that, though.

Inspirational to almost all the punk I listen to, but does little for me

All the clashes music sounds the same

I feel like this would have been the best music for me had I been a teen at the time. As it is now, it's rather dated. Still good. But hasn't really held up.

2.75 Very garage sounds, a little unrefined. In a vacuum it’s fine as an album, but in context is 5/5 for its importance

Garageiest of garage rock, very raw and unpolished but high energy fun

Solid debut from the great-uncles of punk. But I feel they're holding back somewhat on the record. Live versions of the songs sound more convincing, more alive, more exciting. I award them 3 safety pins to be used as piercings, for attaching patches to a leather jacket, or pinning a necktie to a shirt when interviewing for the next career opportunity. 🧷🧷🧷

It's all right, not my fav

I like the rockability nature of these punk songs.

This album is straight punk. All attitude, aggressive guitars, yelling. Good way to start the week!

Interesting glimpse into their early sound but not as good as their later stuff.

Pretty good little punk record. The first full album from the band I've heard, but I assume the others that came afterwards are a little more refined. 3.5/5

Good album, but I prefer London Calling.

Good, but nothing on London's Calling

Litt bråkete, men funker greit som bakgrunnsstøy siden alle sangene høres ganske like ut.

ikkje da besta av the clash

Personality : ++ Songs: -+ Overal vibes +-

Back to back punk albums. I think I may have liked this one slightly better. Felt more put together, less crazy. This album's energy pumped me up but I could not understand a word they sung lol

Top 3 Songs: 1 - White Riot (4) 2 - Deny (7) 3 - Protex Blue (11)

Janie Jones - seems like a bit of a dick Remote control- fine tune👍 I'm so bored with the USA- facts still. Nice fake out👍 White riot- idk this seems to me to be co-opting riots for own personal gain. Maybe unintentionally white nationalist Hate+ war- doesn't do anything for me What's my name- not fan of chorus, some verses quite clever Deny- meh Londons burning- nice verses👍 Career opportunities- this is very catchy, solid song all around👍 Cheat- rhyming quite lame protex blue - low effort condom song Police & thieves - refreshingly different from rest of album, doesn't justify its length for me 48 hours - this is filler Garageland - is snobbery punk? Fave track: career opportunities Least fave - white riots Lots of tracks short and don't have much impact. Some good songs and I'm not really a fan of punk so I'll give this 3/5

DNF but I liked better than expected

Yeah, not bad. Not really my kinda thing, but it worked as background music while I was doing other things. Probably won't listen to it again. Stand out tracks: London's Burning, Janie Jones.

Pretty solid rock.

Loved it, iconic.

can just imagine how important and revolutionary this type of music was for the time, not as angry and punkish as i was expecting but the message is still very prevalent 6/10

It's no "London Calling"; it's a solid 3.5 but in this case it's down to 3 stars, as I just don't feel that overall it warrants a 4.

I like the Clash and it was good to hear their first album. I prefer London Calling but it’s worthwhile hearing this album, too.

Pretty gooooood 💣

Average. Liked a couple of songs.

The punk sound is impressively fully-formed for a debut. I enjoyed it quite a lot, and I respect its status as a great of the genre, but don't think it will become an all-time favourite of mine. A few bangers though: Janie Jones, Career Opportunities, I'm so Bored with the U.S.A, etc etc. 3.5 stars.

British, punk rock. its ok, never got into british rock.

Punk and more punk. Police and thieves is an all time favourite clash song i also liked hate and war from this listen

A bit shoutey but still classic the clash

I appreciate the brevity of the album. The instrumentation was alright, but the vocals weren’t my favorite.

Not bad. I think I'd need to listen a few times to appreciate it more.

What I might call “good punk”

I don’t need a double album from The Clash, so I may take this over London Calling.

Was decent.

2 Not my jam.

I already know it’s dope but London calling is better

I understand the importance of punk but all the songs sounded the same to me.

Didn’t complete the album. Not terrible but not my style. Felt like mediocre vocals with too basic of beats.

Raw, youthful energy climbing to a musical precipice. Solid debut.

A little bit of punk goes a long way. It's fine in its frenetic, thrashy way, induces a rise in the heart rate and gets the head banging. It's so simple though, that's what made it special I guess. Raw, unpolished, loud and uncouth. We all need a bit of that at times.

Ihan jees mut tykkään kyl paljon enemmän siitä, mitä tekivät pari vuotta myöhemmin. Propsit silti laadulle ja kovalle menolle.

While I appreciate their later, more experimental work more, this album still absolutely slaps. It's more straight to the point punk which has its own place. Lyrically it's on point.

Garage isn’t really my thing so a whole album was thought to listen to - although I appreciate the music

This was OK, but not something I'll revisit.

A second day of punk, I have to say this one wasn't the best Clash I've heard, but the elements are all falling into place.

A real jolt! - good stuff, but not my favourite clash album

Bog early punk. Ooooohhh you're bored of the USA, you edgelord? ha ha. This isn't bad, but it also isn't really any good. It's just early punk I guess. 3/5.

More melodic and interesting than most punk of its era, but the vocals are still gruff and rough unfortunately. Not quite packed with as many great songs as I recall. Good subject matter. Ironic that the superb Police and Thieves is not theirs.

Yes! First time hearing the album. I do know a few of the songs. This is really great. Can’t wait to hear it again. Standouts: London’s Burning, Police and Thieves From the US release: I Fought The Law 3.5/5

The Clash are a band who get better the further they get from pop. Even on this album, it's the Junior Murvin cover that stands out the most - and later on when they fully embrace dub, funk and electro in their sound is when they're most exciting. This is good enough - not as nihilistic and controversial as the Pistols, not as fun as New York Dolls, the sound of Joe Strummer working out where his politics were. All of this gets better - this is a three star album by a five star band.

I like the Clash. This is a new album for me, but I've heard a couple of studio albums before and their greatest hits album. "Police & Thieves" was the track that I saved to my personal playlist, and "48 hours", "Janie Jones", and "Garageland" were good too. This sounded like an album from the Clash that I like, but none of the tracks stood out as a discovery of a new favorite. I liked the album, but I might not remember to look for this album again for a second listen.

In the alternate universe where I actually like punk, I probably gave this a 5. The gritty attitude, the dirty riffs, the vocals, and the overall sound of this one are peak punk. Not to mention those delicious bass lines. I can definitely see why this is considered a masterpiece in the genre. Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of punk. I felt that most songs are same-y. Still, this album slaps.

This was fine, nothing amazing. It’s definitely more of a main stream and less extreme type of punk.

More produced than I remembered it being. It's clear that the band can actually play their instruments, even if a lot of the songs are pretty similar in tempo and execution.

Jújú, fínt pönk. Nenni samt ekki pönki.

Aikalaisista eräs toinen vastaava uppoaa itselle aavistuksen paremmin, mutta kivuitta tämäkin meni. Ei tule päätymään omille soittolistoille.

Good I think

Influential punk debut.

tinny and furious, great backing vocals, and the guitar sounds are a one-off.

As I go along, early punk seems more the prefigurement of the direction of rock and roll than anything. I like this just fine but I'm not over the moon about it.

This is.. fine? Had some rave reviews in here, and I don't think I quite get it. There's a decent energy to it, particularly if you play it loud, but it's not a top scorer for me. White Riot and Police & Thieves the standout tracks for me, but even after a couple of listens it's not getting past a 3.

Clash of clans

OK, not really my thing

I've always thought The Clash were overrated. This album is fun and catchy enough, but nothing really impressive. Police & Thieves almost made me drop my rating to a 3, but it redeemed itself with the last two songs. 3.5/5

This is much tighter than I was expecting! Some great punk rock for sure. This one is really a 7, but here we are with the 5 star system. My top pick is 'Janie Jones'.

Gooewd

Objectively good but not my thing (still figuring out rating scale)

raw and exciting

Not my favorite Clash album but still very good!

More good punk - not many of the "big singles" on this one so a good discovery.

It is the clash

The songs seemed the same. And none of them were that appealing

very different from the classical. not so bad so far. 3 or 4? in and out like wisps of smoke. 3

Never sought out punk rock music but enjoy the music and respect the lifestyle. Often hard to understand the lyrics but who cares when the music grabs you and can change your mood in an instant. What’s not to love with hard core thrashing of instruments mixed with politics and shouting? Does get exhausting after a whole album of it. Was instantly hooked right in with Janie Jones. Helps being able to relate to ‘He’s in love with gettin’ stoned world’ and ‘He don’t like his boring job, no’. ‘Remote Control’ didn’t do much for me and no offense with’ I’m so Bored with the USA’ but thought it was one of the weaker songs. And what does The Clash have against Kojak with the ‘Suck on Kojak’ line. Tony Savalas was the Man in his day! Back to the rapid head banging with White Riot but feel like the album starts to drag on in the middle. Maybe that’s when the monotony was kicking in. Career Opportunities, Protex Blue, Police and Thieves (change up from the beaten path) and 48 hours probably the best run of the album (less ‘Cheat’). Still, nothing really against any of the songs, and while I thought I might be adding to my Library, I’m already over it.

Without knowing more about the band, I'd assume they were likely pioneers of the genre based on the age of the album. It's catchy without being overdone, sleek while gritty, and poignant while crazed. It seems to be quintessential punk rock.

Hard to describe the clash. It's like all substance and no substance. Know what I mean?

Classic early clash. I know some of the songs well, others are new to me. 3/5

I've been very generous with my rating, simply because I love The Clash: while much of the music here is monotonous noise, I cannot deny the allure of some of the lyrics ("Career opportunity, the one that never knocks") and the scattered gems of songs here and there. But yes, The Clash is one of them bands that sounds way better when listened to through a Best Of album rather than its run of the mill albums.

I’m not a huge fan of punk but this is amongst the best punk albums I’ve heard. These guys can actually play their instruments and write greats songs with hooks. Their cover of Junior Murvin’s Police and Thieves has always been a favourite of mine and shows their range

It's alright. The Clash have always seemed overrated to me.

Audio equivalent of a group of lads off their tits at a takeaway, hollering at 3am for the world to hear. Also a breath of fresh air. Finally, some decent fucking music. Big booming drums and interesting lyrics. Song saved: Career Opportunities

A pretty straightforward punk record with a few dub/reggae influences sprinkled along a few tracks. A good start, great harmonies, just overshadowed by later works. Favorite tracks: "I'm So Bored With the USA", "Career Opportunities"

Standout tracks - Remote Control, Deny, Police & Thieves

Too polished to be good punk, too rough to be a classic hit

i like lyrics from this album but music is little boring for me career opportunities, protex blue, police & thieves is the best

Buen album, me gustó. no habia escuchado nada similar, un sonido particular, viejo.

Musica de Juanje

Totally what is expected, classic clash all the way. Feels very similar track to track

It was aight

6/10 - Eh

Classic British punk rock album. Overall good.

The clash is a legendary band of Brit Punk Rock. I feel London calling is a better album but this one was still pretty decent. Nothing truly great but it was a good listen. 7.1/10

Short and sweet at around 35 min for the whole album

not really for me i think, but Police & Thieves really struck a chord with me

Definitely of its time. The cover song is the best on the album.

Surprisingly decent for a punk record

Chyba nie potrafię docenić tej płyty.

Love the clash should be good

I can see why this kind of music was revolutionary at the time, liked 'bored of the USA'

Nota:5/10

Repetitive but OK.

Brings back old memories

Listened to the UK release. The Clash weren't the first nor the best of all the punk bands out there, but they sure made a lot of people in that era to have fun, and it shows why in their debut album. It's upfront, it has a load of energetic songs, and it was certainly very influential. And that is sometimes enough to consider an album great. I particularly liked "Deny".

I think it's another of those influential albums that I probably wouldn't listen to given the choice

Very clever, not my thing but does sound refreshing

3.4. The clash

I think I have outgrown punk a little over these many years, but the Clash remains one of my favorite of the genre

Early punk rock. Good, but not the best stuff from TheClash. My favorite is still and probably always will be their London Calling album - which I’m still listening to in its entirety on a regular basis. This ain’t that, but still solid stuff.

Punk classic

Enjoyed this Clash Album! As I said on the first one, I'm not a HUGE Clash fan just because I never understand what they are saying but it's still fun to listen to. I liked London's Burning and Career Opportunities. The album cover looks like from left to right, Kevin Bacon, Marlon Brando/Steve McQueen, and Andrew Tennison. Don't have more to say because this album is lightning fast.

Nice, but definitely not the best album from the clash. A bit disappointing for me

Would be great to see live, not my thing to listen to

Interesante.

good one, straight to the point

I dunno, I felt like I should like this more than I did. Maybe needs a second listen but I wasn't all that bothered

Listened to the remastered version - still pretty raw, but more eclectic musically than I remembered.

I prefer London Calling but I can see how this zinged everyone in 1977.

Not for me

super punk

3.5 - what an awesome album. white riot, police and thieves and janie jones are great tracks. half a star off for some of the filler in the second half of the album. but overall a very powerful message and delivery.

In retrospect, a lot of this is kinda boring.

Very very oldschool british punk, think Sex pistols

Was pretty good, think I prefer some of there other stuff though, like London Calling album, some of this felt a bit flat

Good album distinct sound but not overly creative but a solid 1st album

Decent; old rock not really my style

Inspired me to watch the White Riot Doc

Got halfway! Busy day, didn't finish. Hoping to appreciate more when I can get through it

Decent grungy emo rock

very nice but not really groundbreaking for me

Finding their footing but still solid

Banger

just ok. i liked police & thieves

Still don’t get the hype, some good tracks but it’s rock and roll with distortion and lyrics of the time

This might have been a necessary phase in the development of music but it's not one I will care to revisit.

I don’t love ro k

All the oi oi oi albums feel like a stepping stone to better music, historical oddities before someone else added new elements to make better genres. This is fine for what it is though, even if it’s a bunch of cosplayers

Some fun Brit'ish punk. Not bad, but probably not something I'd revisit.

it's just like mid rock. Kinda disappointing...

Enjoyed a lot of this, but the energy didn't change from track to track so a whole album is too much

I don't see the fuss with The Clash. Never have. Perhaps you had to be there?

There was a gorgeous guitar riff at the end of "Deny" I liked, but otherwise this is too shouty for me.

The clash is kind of a singles band to me and this album didn’t have any singles. 4/10

Disappointing for sure

Meh. Nice short songs. Nothing stood out. Typical punk.

scrolling through all the 5 star reviews and feeling like i'm losing my mind. one thing i've learned that has surprised me through doing this project is that apparently i'm just not that into The Clash. this whole album was annoying.

Not a great album. Poor choice

Just doesn’t do it for me.

they’re holding me hostage again…

Really do not like this at all. I just don't like the voices of the band and the songs kind of just ramble on. Was just waiting for the album to end.

Enjoyed the lyrics but tiring on the ears to listen to all the way throigh

Not a fan

A bit of a disappointment, has a couple songs that I liked

Not a huge fan of the album, it had a few good tracks, but overall a bit disappointing

Im prob skipping most of the songs i added 9/10 times but there’s some cool stuff here

not bad, decent uk classic punk rock. not sure how to rank vs london calling

London Calling is more of my cup of tea but this album is more straight line punk.

5/10 Not good, not bad

Some fun instrumentation, but vocally everything just sounds the same to me.

Should've liked this, but none of the tracks were particularly memorable.

I liked 6 of 14 songs, if I had liked one more, or thought that the songs I liked had some real standouts, I’d bump it up…nah. Oddly paced, kinda dragged. Low lows, but catchy sounding stuff.

Tries so bad to be edgy and rebelios yet the drummer is so one dimentional it hasnt figured our sterio audio yet. The rithm and bit of 80% of this album is exacly the same. Repetative is an understatement.

The clash is very influential in a genre which I don't really care for. It doesn't sound like it's from the 70's, I'll give them that. The instrumentals are alright, but pretty boring and sounds mostly the same between and within songs. The mixing is also pretty bad. I'd like to like it more as it has some good messages, but it's not my thing.

Lowkey monotonous.

lowk all sounded the same imo

Rating: 2.1/5 Nothing that stands out to me in this one, Garageland was my favorite in this album. Not a fan of the vocals. Janie Jones - 2/5 Remote Control - 3/5 I'm so Bored with the USA -2/5 White Riot - guitar is nice 3/5 Hate & War - 2/5 What's My Name - 1/5 Deny - 2/5 London's Burning - 1/5 Career Opportunities - 2/5 Cheat - 2/5 Protect Blue - 2/5 Police & Thieves - I like the bass in this one. 3/5 48 Hours - 2/5 Garageland - good intro, good drums, favorite off this album 3/5

I like The Clash. I do. For about 3 songs and then they become like every other British punk band; heavy drums and loud guitars coupled with yelling lyrics that are difficult to understand. I appreciate the band and what they did to progress punk music, but this isn’t for me.

While I understand how influential this album was on punk rock, it’s just not my kind of sound.

The Clash are a critic and fan favorite, but I really just don’t see (or hear) what sets them apart from all of the other cheesy British rock acts on this list

I'm sure this is a classic record and all but I am not a big fan. Seems like all the songs are a similar formula that I don't care for. It seems really simplistic to me. I'm sure they are saying some revolutionary stuff and all that but I can't get into it and I was glad when it was over.

I get this is like the stylistic roots of a lot of what would later be called punk, but I really don’t think this is very punk. It’s too bright and it’s honestly too slow, punk feels like it’s beating you over the head with its sound, and this really doesn’t do that. This just kinda is, it doesn’t do anything crazy. And maybe it’s just cause I went to prom tonight and I was exhausted, but it really just didn’t click with me. I’m hoping London calling does better for me cause I like the singles off of that, but I was pretty unimpressed so far. Favorites: I’m so Bored with the U.S.A., London’s Burning, Cheat

I understand that this album is very important to the punk genre, but it's not important to me.

Soo incredibly repetitive, lyrics are quite uncreative and bland, and it all started to blend together. All of that out of the way, it wasn’t completely terrible; the songs were a good length, and the overall vibe could’ve been worse. Fav song: career opportunities- It had a certain spice that I didn’t hear anywhere else on the album

Samma vibe, väldigt the Clash!

not for me - all the songs sound the same :(

Eh. Not a big fan of British Punk

For me it wasn't something to write home about 2/5

Entretanto, o final me desconectou bastante do álbum. 2,5/5

Second clash album. I was very unimpressed with the first one. I’ve only heard good things and it did not live up to the hype. Good guitar/bass on Janie Jon’s. Vocals are bad. Singer just doesn’t have a great voice. Fun chorus. Another really cool bass line on remote control. Good guitars again as well. I’m so bored is fine. Better writing on this one and I can actually understand what bro is saying. Super fast song. Same thing with white riot. This is a pretty fun song. Really basic chorus. Hate and war is better. Much better songwriting on this in, but again a super simple chorus. I like what’s my name. It’s pretty fun and catchy. Not blowing me away though. Hate the vocals on deny. Really turns up the terrible accent. London burning is forgettable. Cool guitar. Can understand career opportunities more so I like that. This one is well written. Cheat is fine. Kids bop esque chorus. Really good guitars again solo to end it. Police and thieves is a banger there’s no denying It. That bass is so good. Good enough vocals. Great guitar solo. Love how that bass line just keeps on banging. 48 hours was quick and forgettable. Nothing really special. Garage land is pretty fun. Better vocals/songwriting in this one. Good way to close it out. Cool hamronica. All in all I can confidently say the clash is one of the most overrated bands of all time. 2 completely average albums with terrible vocals. I think I liked London calling better but I honestly don’t remember because that album (like this one) was extremely forgettable. Again, average. 2.3 stars.

The songs are cool but at one moment are all so much similar..

Dølle greier, med begrenset musikalsk kvalitet.

Screamy protest music. Not bad but not for me.

not my style of music. I appreciate it for what it is in the time period it was released.

This is the distillation of every punk rock album ever. It kinda sucks if I'm being real, the singing especially is like nails on a chalkboard. Free me Standout: Deny

156/1001 First listen. Two Clash albums in two days. This one stays in its lane. Straight up punk. I most likely won’t play this again. 4/10

After listening to 2 Clash albums on this list I have determined that I'm not a big fan.

I didn't care all that much for the album.

Not the best Clash album. Felt more like the ramones

1.75 - I like a lot of punk music, just not the Clash maybe.

Not really my thing and is lowkey giving me anxiety… maybe punk/rock is just not my thing

If you’ve ever heard a clash song, you’ve heard this whole record. It’s not bad, but it is exactly what you’re expecting, which made it very boring for me. 2/5

Not a huge fan of The Clash. I only like Should I Stay or Should I Go.

First time I’ve heard these songs; missed this when it came out, very raw and punky. Recognized some styles used in songs that followed.

launching point for the rest of the clash's music but not an album i particuarly enjoy. SORRY!

I get the cultural significance of the band, but I just don't think it's good. I enjoy a lot of bands that were influenced by The Clash, I just never got into them.

The instrumentation was catchy on some of the songs, but I really didn't like the lead singer's voice. I just felt sort of meh about the album.

Temu Sex Pistols

The voice is sometimes cool, but the music is really uninteresting for me
