Reviews (page 8 of 13)

Great band, album is solid! Rock is not my favorite genre so perhaps this influences my review.

This seems like neither good angry grunge nor catchy pop. Neither fish nor foul, kind of boring.

Highly competent, inoffensive rock. Dave grohl seems like he should be running an HR workshop.

mediocre? don't hate it but i wouldn't reach for it much

This sounds like an uncanny valley nirvana record. Nice, inoffensive album that I enjoyed listening to. A bit bland though. I would have enjoyed a more daring approach but I cannot fault them for failing to do something that they have not tried to do.

44m 12 songs 5/10 Some good ones Lyrics a bit cringe but good

Yep, that's 90's rock.

Weird that this is the FF album to make the list Its not the one I reach for when I want some Foo in my life Weenie Beenie is one of the less commercial cuts, and probably my fav here

Favorite song is "I'm Still Around", just like it was 30 years ago. A decent album, but their sophomore album was better.

6/10 Fascinating to hear that Foo Fighters sound fully formed straight out the gate. Odd to hear it without it being on any of the huge hits.

Ganz okay eigentlich muss man einbisschen reinhören

First 2 songs carry the album. The rest are mediocre

okay, quite samey but good guitar

no ha sido muy de mi estilo mm

Solid album, I can see why people like it, but for me all of the songs blend together. Not something I’m likely to listen to again.

Irgendwie cool

Samey. A bit thrashy

Nunca tinha ouvido muito foo fighters, mas gostei do album no geral. É divertido e deu para abanar a cabeça, deu me vibes de anos 2000.

not for me but still enjoyed it

Ganske ok rockeskive

While I think Foo Fighters in many ways are a straight rock band. They are also at times very fine indeed. Given this is the infancy of it all and is all Grohl it's pretty remarkable. For me thought it still is perhaps a little long and an artist perhaps finding his feet? Good to listen to again after so long.

Nice to listen to once and pretty hype of course but not something for me

Didnt hate it…didn’t love it. Honestly expected more since I already know how good everlong is before going into this. Saved: None HM: Weenie Bernie, exhausted

It has its moments. This album has some baggage that can’t easily be extracted from the listening experience. Of course it carries the fallout of Nirvana, but this would also become the template for modern rock, which has been played well past its best before date.

Less interesting than I had hoped.

Decent album, not necessarily any stand outs for me but still good vibe

unc album

It's fine, nothing special

6/10 could be higher when listen to more. Enjoyed a lot of songs on the album.

Love the foo fighters, but this is not one of their best albums IMO. Lots of different sounds on this one from grunge to 60s pop rock (think Beatles). Not an album I would probably buy

Overall rating: 7/10 (good but not fully my taste so only) Favourite tracks: Floaty, X-Static, Big Me

I want to like the Foo Fighters more than I do. For the most part the song writing is just boring.

good album, nothing exciting, 3

Das Debut-Album. Ordentlicher Rock, keine Lieder, die ich kenne. 3-4/5

ALBUM 1 - FOO FIGHTERS RATING: 7/10 STANDOUT TRACK: Alone + Easy Target THOUGHTS: Pretty catchy, a tad repetitive, but as someone who's not big into grunge I enjoyed it. The rhythmic playing of guitar is great and I thought they were creative with the vocals

Decent angsty

Used to love it when younger. Enjoy it less now

Rough but with some bright spots, still too slow to be my cup of tea

Boring.

Unfailing

fooFIGHTAHS 3/5 good 'n all but there are other things I like better.

This one was a bit puzzling to me. While it is certainly impressive that Dave Grohl recorded the entire album by himself, it feels weirdly uninspired and generic. The sound, while being very load and energetic, feels very one note and makes the songs bleed together in my brain where it's hard to remember any standout songs on their own, save for Weenie Beenie. It lacks a lot of the defining style and songwriting chops of later Foo Fighters tracks that would eventually come out as well as other projects Grohl would later be a part of. Overall, not a terrible listening experience, but nothing really noteworthy or interesting on it's own and honestly, if it was released by anyone else other than Grohl I feel like it would have been quickly forgotten about. Favorite Track - Weenie Beenie

I enjoyed this album. I liked that each song didn’t sound like the next but they all had a Foo Fighters feel to them. I also noticed their influence on a lot of other musicians I’ve liked which was cool. 3.5 rating probably

Biz nostalgischi Züg wege paar Games wo Foo fighters drin vorcho sind aber sust gar ned sone Fan vo dene Giele. glaubs 3 Kuu Kämpfer chani trotzdem geh wills mi nie gnervt het aber sehr ade obere Grenze!

Not bad, but didn’t have anything can hook me

A few stand out songs but nothing which appealed to me greatly.

middling - a few bangers

Great! Some songs were a bit to rock for me, but good overall! Fav song:for all the cows

3.5, rounded down because it was solid but didn’t like blow me away good

Decent album

Ahh the nostalgia. Honestly the best or second best Foo Fighters album, despite its rawness and weird lyrics. Their sound on later albums is just so fucking bland. 7/10

Slightly disappointing. Like all Foo Fighters output it's a mix of enjoyable and completely commercial. It's music almost designed to sell.

Decent stuff here from Satan himself Dave Grohl

Uncomplicated enjoyable thrash

Just because something is commercially popular doesn't mean it belongs on this list. I know the Foo Fighters would go on to make much more successful albums than this, but the presence of this album on this list seems to be just because what it represents: Dave Grohl's foray into a new band post-Nirvana. It's very OK. Back half noticeably sags.

Good record from my high school years. Big Me and This Call brings back memories of my younger days

- I knew a lot of the songs on here, but I never got into Foo Fighters. The album kind of grew on me, though it still feels Nirvana-lite. I sometimes get an Elliott Smith meets Nirvana vibe. - I wish the songs were either heavier or poppier - this tries to blend the two, but it ends up feeling kinda washed out. - Dave Grohl's guitar work is good, but his voice is a little thin. - The production feels muddy.

I've only heard one Foo Fighters album before and didn't enjoy it, so I had low expectations. I was surprised to find a lot to enjoy in this album. So much so that I might listen to the album again sometime. Whilst there's a lot of distortion used on the guitars it's not overpowering and the melodies are pretty good overall. The vocals are mostly a bit too close to punk style (loud and brash) for me but even so they worked well alongside the music so not too bad.

Insanely impressive that this was made by one guy, sadly I thought it got samey quite quickly.

Fun rock record. It's interesting to hear Dave Grohl's first outing as a frontman. You can always tell that one person made a record because it sounds more congealed in my opinion.

Nothing really stood out for me!

Just ok album. I do like the last 1/3 of songs more though. Still, I've never really gotten the draw of this band. It always seemed a little more overproduced than I'm ready for. 3/5

Sort of just average. Sounds like 90s rock, definitely derivative of other stuff from the same era. None of the songs are bad by any means, but nothing really stands out that much either. Everything just sort of blends together, and what it becomes is enjoyable but not particularly exceptional. Probably the most aggressively average album on the list so far. The Foo Fighters are a little too pop inspired for me, and I can definitely hear that on this album. Standout Tracks: Alone + Easy Target, Floaty, X-Static

I know literally nothing about the Foo Fighters but for some reason I’m so unexcited to listen to this

This was his debut, and from what Wikipedia says was basically a solo album, all Dave Grohl. Seems like he wasn’t exactly sure if he wanted to be a pop/grunge guy or a metal guy. The metal tracks are not great, at all, in my opinion. But there are plenty of good songs on here. I want to give it a 3.5.

This one was fine. I do love the Foo Fighters but this album was just meh

Good but basic

Very average rock.

I've always hated the Foo Fighters on principal. This was fine tho

Good but waiting for another album from this century!

Definitely the most raw version of FF. Not interesting enough to listen to it again, aside from “Floaty” and “Exhausted”, which I really liked.

Decent album, no real stand out songs

Not really my cup of tea. Was it amazing in 1995? Probably.

Props to Grohl for doing this all himself. I’ve always found Foo Fighters terribly bland. It’s clear to see who had the X factor in Nirvana. I think there was so much good will for him and his ‘nicest guy in rock’ persona. Can still hear Nirvana in this though, which is a plus. Swithering between 3 and 4

More like 3.5

They've never been my favorite band, but I dont really dislike the Foo Fighters either. 3 stars for this one; there are others of their albums that I like more.

I enjoyed it, haven't really listened to them besides the hits. It has a little bit of a generic rock feel

Not quite there yet. Not sure why this is here; always thought of them more as a singles band. A weak 3.

buen albun rock alternativo y grunge. para ser album debut piola.

Truthfully I cannot claim to be that familiar with Foo Fighters beyond their smash hit in 'Everlong'. I am perhaps more attracted to Nirvanna's grunge than the post grunge era. But I certainly enjoyed this album. It feels like something I would gain much more from if I was able to give it more time as opposed to the album a day method. Standout tracks: Exhausted

Energy

Impressive that Dave did this by himself. However every song sounds almost the same

Aggressively mid, but with some spotlight moments. Was fascinated to learn that Grohl played everything. But seems kind of stuck on neutral and in need of an editor.

This was the album that the world discovered the drummer from Nirvana was actually Dave Grohl, super musician. It’s rumored that he recorded every part on this album by himself. I have mixed feelings in this album, well, Foo Fighters in general. On one side this is a kick ass rock album with key tracks being Exhausted and Wattershed, and Weenie Beenie is a ballbuster too. The problem I have with Foo Fighters is it’s all a strumming wall of sound, and after a while the Fortissimo constant In-Your-Face audio assault leaves you…no pun intended… Exhausted by the end. This album deserves to be here, but I think I need a little Alt-J or Simon and Garfunkel

Random thoughts: * I like and respect Dave Grohl and his musicianship a lot but for whatever reason I never really got into the Foo Fighters. * I listened to the audiobook version of his autobiography(The Storyteller) a few years ago and was enraptured by his stories. * He talked about this first Foo Fighters album and how he was so lost after Nirvana and the loss of Kurt that he just poured everything into this Foo Fighters album as a purely artistic and emotional experience. * I was blown away to learn everything was all Dave. Writing, instruments, vocals. * I listened to this one several times yesterday. It never really grabbed me but my favorite tracks are: I’ll Stick Around and Big Me. * I do remember the video for Big Me. I recall it being a fake Mentos commercial and found it quite humorous in the 90s. * While Dave is the musician that best represents the 90s, this album is solid but not spectacular. I’ll listen again but I doubt it will ever be one of my faves.

It's amazing to me that Foo Fighters is one of the biggest rock bands of all time. I hear the grunge and the alt and the rock influences in this album, but I don't think that it rocks. I've been reading up on the lore of this album: Grohl recorded every vocal and instrument, it was his therapy after Cobain committed suicide, he didn't expect it to be commercially successful but it was, and then he hired musicians, and launched into the stratosphere. I just don't really care because it doesn't rock. It doesn't move me. It doesn't make me excited or want to dance or want to cry or scream or anything. It's just sound with no heart or soul.

This was fine, a bit monotonous I think, nothing stood out as particularly interesting

Much has been said about the “foo” that was to be fought by this band. Was it a colloquial shortening of the word “fool?” Was it a bastardizatipn of the martial art “kung fu?” Probably that one. It’s not a big mystery. Uhhh I don’t really like this kind of music. This is the end of grunge and the beginning of Nickelback. It’s somewhere in between those two entities and I look forward to seeing exactly “how this reminds me” of the great Alberta stink rock outfit that’s we’ve come to know and despise. Ok Foo’s, start fighting. This is a Call - Somebody likes the Beach Boys. No, that isn’t a playful playground tease towards a girl who has a crush on one of the guys who is constantly down on the beach spilling dune buggy motor oil into rare starfish habitats. This is a pretty decent song despite it reminding me of commuting to the my mail delivery job in my early 20’s. I’ll Stick Around - Whoa! Riffs?? Repetitive vocals and that distinctive Dave Grohl vocal that the years have been cruel to, but we’ve got some fire, and some god damned riffs. Incredibly easy folks. Big Me - uhhh what was that? Alone + Easy Target - + ratio. Ugh I hate speaking like the internet. Why do I do it? Learned verbal ticks from endless scrolling that I’m fully sure is as addictive as some drugs. Good Grief - The good kind of grief, or a heart wrenching tribute to one Charles Brown. Floaty - This is strating to “float (y)” by me. Weenie Beenie - We have dumb 90’s megaphone voice everybody. Why was this effect so popular? But hoooo boy that riff. I like the nods to metal in this. Could do without the megaphone, but keep this energy high. Oh, George - This is a nice little break. There are distinct moments here that remind you of the time. This feels more radio friendly, except for the rare guitar 90’s solo which you’d never hear back then. Well, some bands were moving away from it. Whatever. If you’re reading this, youre probably not looking for a music historian’s take on the record. You’re probably the most bored you’ve ever been because you’re like 16 reviews deep on the Foo Fighters debut “about” page in this website. For All the Cows - Finally, a song for our bovine friends. It’s pretty catchy too. X-Static - Isn’t this another band. No, that’s Static-X. Don’t they suck pond water? I don’t have time for that. One bad record a day please. All I can handle. This one isn’t even so bad! The song is kind of a snoozer, but you know. Wattershed - Uhhh. I kind of forgot to type anything. That happens a lot. Exhausted - Atmospheric black metal intro into a sad 90’s indie song??? YES! Great way to close this thing. This had more art to it than I expected. I’m still not in love with his vocals, but they were less obnoxious here than they would get on future releases. In many ways, this is a meat and potatoes rock record, but it has enough interjections of uniqueness and excitement to take it past that into the territory of intrigue. This was not an incredible album, but considering I expected a monster energy soaked ozzfest ticket in audio form, I was pleasantly surprised. Now, hand me alien blaster, I need to experience a psychotic episode during laser tag. 3 HIGHLIGHTS: This is a Call, I’ll Stick Around, Weenie Beenie, Exhausted

2, 3, 5, 10. Rather boring overall; a safe debut. Rating: 2.7/5

mind numbingly mid. the raw sound of the record as a whole can be appreciated in some aspects, but i found myself struggling to even reach the end.

Good but I never think that they got near to Nirvana levels of brilliance more grunge light.

Meh. 7/10.

No. 318/1001 This is a Call 3/5 I'll Stick Around 3/5 Big Me 3/5 Alone + Easy Target 3/5 Good Grief 3/5 Floaty 3/5 Weenie Beenie 3/5 Oh, George 3/5 For All the Cows 3/5 X-Static 4/5 Watershed 2/5 Exhausted 3/5 Average: 3,0 Just an average album. Kinda disappointing that they didn't include „The Colour and the Shape“ over this album.

As it turned out later, Dave Grohl was the artist making the most impact after Nirvana. However, this wasn't on display on this recording yet. Pretty uneven, very few good tunes, pretty hard rocking, it sounds as if he's still finding his way.

Kadett, HDH - Aalen, Deutschland. Okayes Album, aber halt die Foo Fighters.

So so average. It turned out I'd been hearing Foo Fighters songs for years and just never noticed cause it blends into the background so well.

Best Track - "Big Me"

This was OK, but nothing really grabbed me. Some nice moments, but then it got a bit repetitive. I’m sure it was super influential, and obviously Grohl did an amazing job producing this single-handed, but not really my thing. Not horrible, but it just dragged a bit and seemed longer than it is.

To be honest, very generic. Having recently had Nirvana's MTV Unplugged album, the contrast is huge and shows how much of their creative distinctiveness was via Cobain. For me this just doesn't have that special thing that sets it apart.

My colleague and I like to play a game with this site, where we make each other try and guess an album based only on 1 star reviews. I thought this might be a good candidate, but alas even the reviews are extremely generic.

aHHHHHHHH I'm bummed this is the first foo fighters album I'm getting. Not my favorite, but gotta start somewhere.

Ok, vaikka tyylillisesti ei ihan mun makuun. Taattua Foota.

Ihan kelpo debyytti!

I miss this Foo Fighters. The record comes out of the gate with strong songwriting and arrangements. I do wish he had hired the band to record this instead of doing it all himself though, it misses a little bit of the "band in a room" energy that the songs deserve. Energy lags a bit through the back half.

A 3 or 4.

Surprised how much I like this, after finally giving it a good chance. Great hooks! The Foos would become more and more formulaic and “chromed out” from here, but the debut rocks with the best of them. Great drumming, too.

definitely a nostalgia trip. good post grunge album. a good listen but not something i would necessarily return to over and over

Laying out the Foo's blueprint. I like that this is before he got way too shouty. Overdoing the shouting really detracts from the songs but I guess that's what the hitmakers require.

Maybe I haven’t spent enough time with this album, but I’m struggling to figure out why I should want to return to it. I’ve never loved the highly distorted grunge sound, but I can appreciate what Cobain and Nirvana were doing artistically. In that case, there’s a point to the ugliness of the music. Here it feels like that point gets lost in too much of the album. There are certainly highlights in the first few songs, but this album generally retains the low points of grunge and discards a lot of what makes it worth listening to. The album is at its best when Grohl is working through the demons that remained after Cobain's suicide. This Is a Call, I'll Stick Around, and Good Grief offer hints of the anthemic power rock that Foo Fighters would grow into. While it might be more pop-forward than anything Nirvana would have put out, Big Me serves as a nice reprieve from the relentless distortion we get through most of the remaining tracks. The album takes a downward turn on the second side, lacking the standout tracks that keep the first side interesting. The only true point of departure from uptempo power chords are the verses of For All the Cows, which makes for one of the more interesting songs on the album, despite the puzzling lyrics. The rest of the side falls into a pattern of uptempo, highly distorted power chords that become fatiguing, at least to my ear. Weenie Beenie and Wattershed were particularly difficult listens for me, and by the time I came to the album's closer, "Exhausted" was how I felt. This is by no means a bad output from someone trying to right the ship after tragedy struck, but it doesn't have the qualities I usually look for in great albums. The best songs don't hit the same highs, and the deeper cuts aren't interesting enough either musically or lyrically to keep me engaged. While a technically impressive achievement for Grohl to produce this by himself, the album just doesn’t stand out to me relative to what Nirvana had released previously or what Foo Fighters ended up becoming. It's certainly noteworthy as a response to Cobain's death and in light of what Foo Fighters would become, but I'd almost always rather be listening to something else.

Plenty of decent/good songs, but didn't speak to me. Dave Grohl is pretty dope though

Not gonna listen to this one. A couple fine tunes. I was huge into foo a decade ago but the shine has washed off. I’m glad this is guitar riff focused instead of the chorded nothing they’ve devolved in to.

Average didn't grab me

This is exactly what I thought it would be. My mom and my uncle and a bunch of other adults in my family really liked the Foo Fighters because they were kinda funny. The singles on this album were such staples of late 90s rock radio, but I don't really love any of them. 3.5 overall.

i think this is the most boring offering the foo fighters have, but it's still got some high points

This was good, Foo Fighters quickly established a very strong sound and identity in this album. However, it does feel a little samey

The individual songs are great to listen to, the album felt a little samey though. Other Foo Fighters will certainly rate better, but this is a solid listen anyways.

Cool album, but not a big fan of their first album

Not a patch on their next album, The Colour and the Shape, but fine to listen to. I don't think I recognised any songs; perhaps Floaty, which was my favourite. Dave Grohl is a great drummer.

An interesting historical curio as a side project that grew to arguably be a bigger deal than the band that spawned it. Has it's charms as a scrappy little one-man project, and Grohl is a great performer, but it gets a little samey and lacks that extra energy that comes from a bunch of people playing in a room together.

Kudos to Mr Grohl playing every instrument on the album. I am totally on board with this cathartic experience for him in the wake of Kurt Cobain's death. I don't really have one outstanding track from this album but as a whole it's solid and well produced.

Very much a “hey I used to be in nirvana album” Which was the zeitgeist for the 90s era this album was produced. There were pockets of future Foos coming through which I enjoyed. But felt more like a what could have been album for nirvana than a stamp of full independence. 3/5

Great rock album, post-Nirvana. The foundation for their awesome career. (But not as good as the albums after this)

A la playlist: I'll Stick Around, Good Grief, Weenie Beenie

Best Song: This Is a Call. You can see glimpses here of what went on to become the Foo Fighters recipe for success: starting soft and continuously raising the musical stakes of the song until it ends in a much louder, more blistering place than where it started. Worst Song: X-Static. I'm very glad that the Foo didn't go in this mumble-rock direction for the rest of their career. Overall: As someone who went through a bit of a Foo Fighters phase when they were younger, I expected to like this more. It turns out I mostly listened to stuff from later in their career. Here, it feels like Dave Grohl is still stuck a bit in the past, making a sort of Nirvana-lite (especially in the vocal department). It's not bad, but also not so exciting. Just generic.

Could only listen to half of it. They are fine, just not my cup of tea.

Decent album. Definitely something to listen to, but nothing that grabbed me and made me listen.

7/10 Highlights This is a Call

Estuvo interesting

Impressive album with some killer tracks. The first quarter of the album feels more like their next release, 'Color & Shape'. The rest of the tracks are gungier and less polished but are prime examples of where they came from and how their sound evolved.

So when this first came out I listened and went OK. Today I listened and went OK. I've seen them live, they are fun live. I do enjoy them, but they are pretty generic rock overall. It's not bad, it's not great, it's good. No new ground will be broken. You won't hear something that will change your life. You'll find out you know more of their tunes than you realized and maybe have some fun. They are a band that if there was a greatest hits album I would 100% buy it. It would be the only Foo Fighters album I would own.

Decent enough background noise

There are some classics on here for sure. I’ve never heard the album in full, but appreciate learning that their first release is maybe the most gritty I’ve ever heard Foo Fighters sound. Songs like Weenie Beenie still go hard. The guitar on this album is just a straight wall of sound. I can see how this is an important album, especially since it’s one of those projects where it’s literally a one man band situation. There are some guitar parts on this album that just sound fun to play. I’m not too high on the album as a whole, but it’s a fun listen and definetly worth listening to once and I appreciate it for what it is

A bit too overstimulating for me but i can understand why it’s iconic

Thoughts before listening: The first Foo Fighters album and a very important album for me as a kid. The Foo Fighters had the aggression of the grunge and punk rock I loved at the time, but with a real focus on melody and catchiness. This is a pop record with loud guitars, and it contains some of my favorites from that era. Review: This album really frontloads the hits. "This is a Call", "I'll Stick Around", and "Big Me" are 3 of the Foo fighters most well known and loved songs. The rest of the album stays in a similar lane of poppy rock with crunchy guitars although I can admit the songs for the most part just aren't as good as tracks 1-3. There is definitely a strong nostalgia for me with this album that I can tell is missing from the negative reviews on this site. If I had not been obsessed with the Foo Fighters when I was 15 I would probably be more likely to point out that its a fairly generic 90s alt rock album, but the familiarity wins out for me. Still though, the weaker middle and end of this record only gets 3-stars.

Feels way less campy and/or abrasive than you'd expect for an album with what looks like Marvin the Martian's gun on the cover. Every time I listen to Foo Fighters, I think that I could easily get into them, but then I never actually keep it up. Sorry Dave, but Nirvana's the only one keeping my attention!

They're not my favorite band but I like them...especially a certain handful of songs that are not present here. This isn't my favorite album by them but it's solid classic 90s rock. I enjoyed hearing it again.

alt-rock redelijk

This album was fun. Felt very "Nirvana" but less angry. Pretty cool that Dave Grohl did the entire thing himself. There are some great songs here. I HATED how static-you "Exhausted" sounded tho. I restarted it like 5 times because I thought there was something wrong with my speakers. "Big Me" is a CLASSIC. Actual rating...3.5 Liked Songs: "This Is a Call" , "I'll Stick Around" , "Big Me" , "Alone + Easy Target" , "Floaty" , "Weenie Beenie" , "Oh, George"

To me it just kind of blends together. Not bad but not distinct

BEST SONGS: - For All the Cows - Exhausted

the foo, they came back and played a show in slo the day i had this album so that's pretty cool. not my favorite of theirs tho. 6/10

Just never a foo fighters fan. Music always seemed bland to me.

good grief больше всего зашла в альбоме

decent but i took more notice of the music when spotify started playing the colour and shape album afterwards

Good 90s rock album paved the way for some awesome later on Dave Grohl albums

I probably should've listened to this when I was younger. I'm not going to lie, it's pretty damn good. There's a lot of influences here, but I'm hearing quite a bit from Bob Mould and Sugar. That said, I will probably never choose to put this on. 90s alternative radio absolutely killed this band for me.

A mixed bag. Some songs feel like leftover discarded Nirvana songs, others are less derivative and much more enjoyable. In all this record is neither a high- or a lowlight in its genre or this list.

It's Foo Fighters, its aight. Maybe back in the day it was way cooler but it doesn't really do much anymore, some songs sound like they had some big Elliot Smith influences which is kinda fun.

It's a good album but not as good as The Colour and the Shape

just doesnt hit like it used to

assez chill

Better than I remembered.

It has some good musics like big me, but other than that it's the same thing

Ikke et kjempebra album. Men det er jo imponerende at gutten har alle instrumenter og vokal. Flink type. Bra album til at det ikke var planlagt utgitt en gang. Liker spesielt Big Me og Weenie Beenie. Hva er greia med pistolen? Solid 3,5/5.

I was ok with about half of the songs, but none of them rose to a level of enjoyment that could have made this a 4 for me. Kind of bland, middle of the road, songs that filled the airwaves without much distinction.

Was expecting a bit more

Impressive debut by Dave Grohl, that still carries the sound that Foo Fighters has today. Great vision and execution although the mixing could’ve been better. Not many songs that I can recall by name.

Dude why is this album so long?

Fine I guess.

nothing was that great I’m afraid to say

this is not as good as i remembered as a kid

Good jams. Not their best album imo but good nonetheless. 3

fine maybe i didnt actually listen to it. but thats only because i forgot and plus ive heard it before, albiet like 2 years ago. still i do remember enough to say that its a decent album, yet only decent, not spectacular.

Enjoyable, not exceptional

"Mum, can we listen to Nirvana?" "We have Nirvana at home." Decent three star record, this!

A proof of concept for what the Foo Fighters would be. An interesting album for the drummer of Nirvana to put out on his own, with a nice variety of different styles on display here. Big Me is the only song I remembered from this album and it’s still the best thing on here.

They can do better

Heavier tracks are better, forgettable in parts

A very charming debut from a band who on the whole like a poppier Nirvana, which is no bad thing. They do deviate into more shouty territory on Weenie Beenie which I particularly like. I suspect I probably would have checked in with this band sooner had I been exposed to songs like these, rather than the more radio friendly stadium rock they are now better known for.

Giving Foo Fighters a solid 3, will keep three of these songs and it was all pretty good but nothing special

Just some hard rock, a bit bland I guess, average. 3 stars

Perhaps not surprising as it was recorded in the wake of Cobain’s death, this sounds pretty much like Nirvana. Some pretty good punk / grunge tracks on here. Not entirely my thing but it rocks enough to get a thumbs up from me

2.8 I was shocked how mid that was

I love thr ray gun but something about the Foo Fighters always felt off. For every learn to fly there's an album I don't like. The Alt Rock version of Guns n Roses

What an album and in terms of Foo Fighters Discography one that doesn't get spoken about very often overall, with that being said let's get on with this as I type this out on my work computer instead of doing my job. The album kicks off in what would become typical Foo Fighters fashion, beginning with Dave Grohls soft vocals before the track kicks in, blasting distorted guitar, heavy hitting drums and the bass is certainly there. One thing that I think needs to be said about this album is that Dave Grohl wrote it all and recorded it in 6 days, which I think adds to the sheer amount of fucking awesome of this album. This is a Call is the perfect introduction to the Foo Fighters sound, with hints of blues hidden within the powerful rock n roll sound. I'll Stick Around, follows a similar formula but here we really get to hear Dave's vocal range with screams and a more aggressive vocal style, each track of the album introduces little bits of Grohl's style that will eventually see consistently in albums to come. Big Me is the lighter track on the album, the distortion is toned down for rough sounding chord progressions, with Grohl's vocals returning to a softer tone, with lyrics that'll now be stuck in your head for a week, a lovely little 2 minute ditty. Tracks like Floaty and X-Static have a grungy almost punk like sound to them, with Grohls clear vocals sailing through beautifully, showing hints of his beginnings at Nirvana, aggressive music with clean vocals is a personal favourite of mine. Overall class album, not one of my favourites but its an album bigger than the sum of its parts, what we see in this album is a few of Grohl's ideas that blossomed into arguably one of the most fun rock bands of the 2000s and onwards. 3/5 MTW I think it would be fair to say that any work by the Foo Fighters past 2011’s Wasting Light

2.5 top 3: - big me - good grief - exhausted

Pas mon style habituel, j'écoute très peu de rock, mais j'ai quand même apprécié. J'avais déjà entendu parler d'eux mais j'avais jamais écouté donc bonne découverte. 3/5

Was surprised. When this came out, I was still listening to grunge. The radio hits that came out, I found a bit cloying. In hindsight and in context of the whole album, that definitely contains some more grungy songs, I quite like it. Fun, energetic. I love the drums, his style is so recognizable. Recordings a bit flat?

POWER CHORDS! Post grunge was a weird time in music and I feel like this album would have been forgotten if Dave Grohl wasn’t behind it. A couple of staple PopRock songs prevented it from fading into obscurity.

Starts off strong but kind of peters out towards the end. I liked it at the time and it still is pretty good but not great

Solid e/5

i actually thought this was pretty good. but not good enough and i'm in a good mood so 3

still not really into rock. like the name foo fighters tho - always knew the name, never heard a song. checked out songs from other albums, like those more.

1 sounds like an outro, I like it def not the foo fighter sound im used to 2 love the transition between tracks 3 I like 4 rock on 5 I like how you can still hear the nirvana influence 6 experimental in vocals, almost deftones esque, me likey 7 weenie beenie 8 jam!! 9 I like the changes in tempos 10 this is a jam too, I like the dissonant and lazy harmony 11 😛😛😛😛 12 distortion and good vocals I likey Album cover: it looks pretty cool Overall enjoyment: There weren’t many notable songs besides the first and last but overall I enjoyed it as well as the genre!!

Hard to believe that the drummer on Nirvana, after being part of such wonderful music, could go on to be so goddamn average…

Again this isn’t my favorite genre but the songs were pretty fun and easy to listen to.

Not my favorite Foo Fighters album but there is good energy and is a solid post-grunge record. 6/10

Ehh I don’t know. It’s decent.

# Album Name: The foo fighters # Artist: The foo fighters # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: I can see why Cobain didnt think Grohls music was fit enough for Nirvana. The album starts with a very solid three song intro. This is a call, ill stick around and big me are good tracks. it drops off after that. obviously the foo's turn into a good band as they go on. sadly this album is just ok. # Top Tunes: This is a call / ill stick around / big me # Would I listen to it again? singles only

IDK its not terrible, but its just totally average, worse than his previous band in every way, there's not really any riffs, or catchy parts whatsoever, even though this is more pop music. Some of the more emotive bits are really good, and the songs which I like the most, but the bits where he's just yelling are painful to listen to imo, he has a nice singing voice when he doesn't yell so hard, which is quite I common pitfall I find. There are some rhythm guitar parts which are good, but I think as he made this on his own mostly, there's no variety in the guitar parts. Favrouite songs: I'll stick around, alone+easy target, good grief, floaty, exhausted. Overall around 6/10

Gut. Haut aber auch nicht vom Hocker. Im Hintergrund trotzdem sehr angenehm.

I found this album a bit boring when it came out in 1995. It hasn’t really got better with time. I’ll admit it’s impressive that Dave Grohl managed to become an entire rock band almost by himself to create this album... but apart from that, there’s not a lot to be excited about. There's a few nice moments here and there, but it often sounds like a parody of Nivana. I rated this album a 2* at first, but I think it was a bit harsh. Despite its lack of originality, it was not unpleasant to listen, and it's clearly a honest effort. There are so many far worse albums on this list, I'll add 1 star.

Recht eingängig und gut für den Hintergrund, mir ist aber kein Song besonders in Erinnerung geblieben.

Not my genre but pleasant

Initially somewhat underwhelming but elevated by a surprisingly dynamic and energetic second half. Highlights are Alone/Easy Target, Good Grief, For All the Cows, This is a Call, Big Me.

I’m not sure how many stars I should give to this album - some songs are super cool but some I wouldn’t listen for the second time so maybe a 3?

As I listen to this, I am still deciding on what I will rate it, but whatever it is, it will get a bump, for no other reason than the David Grohl and Taylor Hawkins inducted Rush into the RnR HoF. Okay, I'm done. I wanted to like it more than I did. 2.5 bumped to 3.

Colour and the shape is better but this is cool. Especially given the circumstances of its recording. Band and Dave Grohl both suck now.

Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: Big Me I like the Foo Fighters later stuff better: In Your Honor, Echos, Silence, Patience & Grace. That being said, I really don't think I ever knew or truly appreciated that this is solely a Dave Grohl album. He created the entire album virtually by himself: vocals, guitar, drums (bass too I assume) with only the help of a producer to put it together into a consumable format, and so soon after Nirvana disbanded with Cobain's suicide. Crazy to think about. Not out of this world crazy (you still have people like Jack White and Billy Corgan who can do it) but it's nonetheless still incredible talent. As for the music itself. It's fine. Like I said, I like their more refined, mature sound in the mid 2000s more so than the post grunge stuff he threw together. I also really need to be in the mood for this kind of music, because it can get a bit monotonous.

I’ve always been quite “eh, they’re ok” about Foo Fighters and this album just confirmed that.

Standout tracks: Alone + Easy Target, Good Grief

Pretty good album, some of it was real bad tho

I enjoyed this one without being blown away by anything on here. There isn’t that absolute banger of a song that will stick in my memory. Foo Fighters are a band I always feel I should like more than I do. I enjoy them whenever I hear them but they aren’t a band I ever go out of my way to listen to. Top Track - Exhausted

Listen to this and then listen to a range of the music over their discography. You can see their polish over time. Interested to see how this album broke the mold back in the day

First 5 songs are good and the rest is so-so.

It's a strange feeling to know that Grohl played everything on here. It takes away all of the power behind any one instrument, or even his voice. Knowing this doesn't make the album worse, but it makes it a weird experience.

Solid, not the best Foo Fighters album but a good one

This is one of a very few freshman albums that open with a 1-2-3 combo of songs that some bands could wish for in a career. “This is a Call”, “I’ll Stick Around” and “Big Me” are fantastic. The rest of the album is fine. You can tell this is Dave Grohl still using his Nirvana brain when it came to writing songs as there are several, especially later in the album, that sound like his previous band.

A Dave Grohl solo album in all but name but this set the tone for FF and all that followed. I liked the singles on this one, This I A Call, I'll Stick Around, Big Me and For All The Cows. Likeable album but the Foos went on to write better

Dave Grohl attempts to make his very own Nirvana album and instead makes a middle of the road radio rock album. It's aggressively fine.

Not a bad effort though it does very much sound like a demo.

Fine. New rock noise.

Incredible DIY record by Dave Grohl. Laid the foundation for a band that still had to be formed, with tremendous success. A bit rough at the edges, this may have needed some polish before release.

God damn, didn’t know he recorded the whole album by himself. Respect

Grohl”s first post-Nirvana album. Doesn’t exactly break new ground, but not a bad listen. At times sounding a bit like Nirvana, at other times hinting at the new direction he would go.

Well ... I had this first Foo Fighters album on cassette when it first came out. I was a fan of Nirvana and so of course I had to hear Dave Grohls new project. I wore that cassette out, but have not listened to it in many years. I am not a fan of any Foo Fighters album after this as I feel they just became commercialized processed crap. So the big question was did I love this, what is pretty much a solo effort from Dave. It starts off great and then just ends up playing out like a tired 90s album. I still admire it as it's all done by Dave, even it if was just for fun while he was still grieving for his bandmate Kurt. So I give it 3 stars for that. It was fun to revisit, but I doubt I will ever come back to it.

Not much to say about this one.

As a 90s kid this gives me a very nostalgic feeling. I makes me want to pick up a skateboard and feel the wind in my hair. Great rock album, definitely can hear the grunge influences compared to their later songs, has more of that 90 pessimistic vibe. ‘Big me’ and ‘floaty’ are my favourite song on this album. I like the second part of the album over the first half, it’s a little harder. It’s a little one note for me, found myself zoning out while listening to it. I think I’d listen to some songs individually but probably won’t listen to the album as a whole again.

It's a good album, but not a landmark record. The post-grunge feel is there, you can hear the influence of Grohl's work with Nirvana and he delivers well on the heavy/soft technique too. But for me, it's a lighter record, it lacks the edge and raw aggression of better Grunge albums. The songs themselves also aren't as catchy. The context of the record adds more nuance and makes it a more worthy listen, as Grohl wrote and performed almost the whole album by himself when he was trying to get back to making music after Cobain's suicide. It's remarkable that he wrote and performed a pretty consistent and good rock album all by himself. The album could've used a bit more polishing in the songwriting department, but since he didn't even mean for it to be such a big project, it makes sense. Overall, it's a good listen, he delivers high quality rock and it's also the beginning of what would later be Foo Fighters as a band.

Three decent tracks - the rest is filler

This Is a Call is such a great album opener. I think it's easy to rag on Foo Fighters for becoming such a formulaic arena rock band over the years, but that first 10 years was, mostly, very good. I came to this album late as was a little too young at release but with the wider context of knowing where Dave was and what he had experienced I think this is a really great little solo project. Not sure many would have predicted it growing into the biggest rock band in the world.

Surprised this is the Foo Fighters album that made the cut. It's decent rock but not ground breaking or particularly memorable. Just straight middle of the road. Kind of like of like the ITV comedy of music. It's there.

I dunno. I've never really been into the food, I thought maybe the first album would be exciting and more raw than the later stuff, but it was a bit forgettable. I think their second album is where he hit his stride. It's fine, but I feel like the hype around the band isn't really justified and certainly not with this album.

Such an odd time for post grunge as it moved from late 90s good feeling pop rock like Goo Goo Dolls. These guys tried to bring back the musicality and hard guitar sound and were effective, but really it's just pop. Not that it is a bad thing, it just is what it is.

It’s fine. I kinda like it but there are better albums from this time - including from the Foo Fighters

Not for me but good

Foo has always been too generic rock for me, but this first album is still raw enough to hold my interest.

its ok

I enjoyed this, solid album.

Good album enjoyed it

Q: What do you call it when grunge is all cleaned up and well produced by people who have their shit together? A: The Foo Fighters They’re talented and this sounds fine. But it’s not something I’ll come back to again and again. It’s a 3 (maybe a 2).

Better than Coldplay

felt like a necessary listen, although not their most popular. don’t know if i enjoyed it as much as i should have

Hay mejores de los foo

Not yet at the heights of the following couple of albums. I know he played all the instruments himself but I could do that. A later track came on after this and I was like OH YEH HERE WE GO so while FF deserve to be on this list, not with this album.

I probably resisted this at the time because it seemed like Nirvana-lite? That doesn’t seem so much like a bad thing now. Really like: “I’ll Stick Around” and “Big Me.” The album is about 15 minutes too long, though. This is really closer to 3.5 stars.

Не мой стиль, но музыка в общем-то неплохая и заводная!

This was alright didn't love anything but it was solid all around. I like it a little less then. The colour and the shape

While post-grunge has to be one of the WORST musical successors of all time, spewing out shit bands like Bush, Nickelback, Creed, Staind, Puddle of Mudd, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Shinedown, Seether, and Matchbox Twenty; I have to give this album sine street cred for it's historical significance. Dave Grohl creating this entirely on his own and finishing within a month is insane. Makes me a proud Seattleite to see how for the FF have gone, even having their own stand in Jojo. While the movement they created is one of the worst, I appreciate this album as a relic of the time. 3/5

Not really my thing although I like this kind of music.

Many hits and reliably rockin tunes, but it got a bit tired towards the end

Definitely 'Foo Fighters' enough to be a self-titled album. I enjoyed hearing some songs that, showing what I don't listen to a lot of, I'd not heard before. Great range across the album with a mix of very hard, almost metal, sound with some lower down and more mellow songs, too.

Very cool rhythms and some great songs.

I've actually never listened to a Foo Fighters album. For some reason I had a really positive association with their name, but this album didn't really do it for me. Not unpleasant but didn't pull me in or make me want to listen to any of their other albums.

Pretty cool that Dave wrote and recorded the album by himself and later formed the band

I’ve heard it way too many times. I mean it launched a juggernaut right so, can’t be terrible. There’s some good tunes, but I’m pretty tired of it.

Good stuff.

This album is very much a product of its time. It’s weird to me people complain it sounds like Nirvana. Aside from being a principal of that band, it is also grunge of the era. As I am not a big fan of grunge, this album didn’t make me swoon, but it was good enough and I definitely didn’t hate it.

Heard it before. Best Foo Fighters album, they went downhill after this. This one is good because you can still hear a bit of a Nirvana influence here and there. Dave became deeply uncool not long after that 3/5

Felt sort of like a bland rock album. This gets bumped to a 3 after reading a little about it, pretty cool that Grohl did all the instruments for the recording.

Sounds just like Nirvana minus Kurt Cobain. Cool, if that's your thing.

I hated this when it came out, just because it wasn’t Nirvana. I thought it was an insult to the memory of Cobain. That was way too harsh. I don’t hate it anymore and I now realize something that the much younger version of me didn’t: Grohl had more grief than I did about Cobain and at least he did something creative and productive with his. But it’s not a great album. It’s amazing what Grohl could do all alone but too much of this winds up sounding generic. Foo Fighters would get better when they became an actual band.

While you can definitely hear some of the remnants of Nirvana in the album brought from Dave Grohl, you can also sense the lack of Cobain in the style which made the album a little "more to be desired". This will get a 3.5 which is bumped down to 3 as it didn't really hit the heights to be closer to 4.

I thought the album was decent but not particularly remarkable or exciting. Definitely got Nirvana vibes as expected throughout (esp on 'I’ll Stick Around').

Initial reaction was it's good to see a Foo Fighters album I've never listened to. I then checked what other Foo Fighters albums made the list. None. The creator picked this over 'The Colour and the Shape'...the first album with actual band members and not just Dave Grohl. Anyway this is a decent debut album but no songs worth revisiting. Supposedly a lot of lyrics were written 15mins before recording. 3/5.

Favorite track: I'll stick around. Overall score 6.8/10.

Cover: 8 Starts with the familiar songs. The first two are slower than I remember but still decent. I liked Weanie Beanie and Watershed. Fun sons. Lyrics are nonsense but fun.

3/5 generic rock

mweh. Too little grunge, too straight forward rock.

It was solid, no stand out hits. The Foo Fighters hit their stride more in works after this I think.

I've never been into Foo Fighters, and I'm still not. Their music is fine, but not particularly interesting to me.

It’s okay. I think 13 year old me would have loved it.

It's the Foo Fighters. Pretty good debut album. Pretty same-y all the way through. I did start to zone out near the middle. A fun listen, but not something I would return to a lot. This is a Call is definitely the stand out track.

I guess this is how I found out the Foo started this early... damn. They definitely found their sound between this and their second album. Some tracks on this stood out, including Big Me and For All the Cows, but it's not at all what I'd call Foo Fighters. Everyone's gotta have a debut album, I guess. I just don't think this is one with much replay value. 5/10

Well, it's pretty obvious that a drummer recorded this album; that's pretty neat. That's about all I have to say on this one, it's pretty mid.

i've never been a huge fan of foo fighters. they're a bit too derivative mall-punk to me, with some admittedly good hits but the standouts have always been their music videos. great music videos, some say they have the biggest, most beautiful music videos. fortunately big me is the first music video to feature dave grohl in braids therefore elevating this album to a 3 for me. i think the most dissapointing part was that grohl's drumming was so good in nirvana and it's so middling in this release. standouts for me are good grief, exhausted and x-static. if every track carried the same grungy depressed tone i'd probably like it more, but you can hear him starting to lean into the pop-rock mall-punk sound that foo fighters would eventually adopt which just isn't for me.

A well-performed novelty. The lyrics, according to Dave Grohl, were written 20 minutes before the week-long recording of this album, of which only one instrumental track is played by someone other than him. In terms of industriousness I suppose this album gets top marks. In all honesty, it would have been more fair to review The Colour and the Shape as this album feels overshadowed by the loss of Cobain and feels more like a coda to Grohl's career in Nirvana, whereas his sophomore effort feels like he's come into his own. Music serves a purpose, some music is designed to make you cry, self-reflect, be happy, run, pine for something long gone. This album is designed to pine for another garage beer, this is music to drink mid-strength lager to on a Saturday afternoon with 4-5 other people. The kind of music for conversations that begin with "Remember when..." and "What happened to X?". Highlights: Oh, George, X-Static, Exhausted

Foo Fighters is music for people who don’t actually like music. Genericore. And this isn’t even the kind of music that Dave Grohl listens to. He likes Pantera or Gwar or some shit. This is just pablum he made to sell records to normies. Well I ain’t buying.

I like a lot of Foo Fighters songs but the album on the whole is just fine I suppose. The first half of the album has some bangers but it loses steam halfway through. "I'll Stick Around" still rocks 30 years later. But I'll be honest I don't know how this one made a 1001 albums list. Maybe it's to show post-Nirvana Dave Grohl but it's not the band's best work. Grohl played all the instruments and sang on this album so you don't even get Taylor Hawkins, whose drumming was really integral to the band for years before his untimely death. I'm surprised they didn't go with The Colour and the Shape (which has "Everlong" and "My Hero," two timeless songs) or There Is Nothing Left to Lose (first full album with Hawkins). Missed opportunity here to showcase the band here.

Doesn't leave much of an impression.

Growing up, everyone liked the Foo Fighters, but nobody listened to the Foo Fighters. My punk friends never had a Foo Fighters CD in their disorganized piles of music covering the floor. My goth friends just didn’t think Grohl was dark enough, despite playing the devil in Tenacious D. My preppy friends serenaded girls by playing Everlong on their acoustic guitars, but otherwise only rocked out to Dave Matthew’s. I knew the core Foo Fighters songs from the radio, but I always wondered, who is this for? Who’s listening to this? Yet, here we are, thirty years on, and these guys are still selling out shows, playing SNL, spitting out records. Who’d have guessed it? This debut album is impressive considering it was composed solely by Grohl in a state of grieving. I always marveled at how different the Foo Fighters were from Nirvana, how cheerful, triumphant, and poppy. This album is sort of like the missing link from how we got from Nirvana-state to Foo-state. Glad I listened to it for that bit of education, but doubtful I’ll put it on again.

Très grunge, ça me fait un peu chier. Mais c’est plutôt cool dans son genre.

Meh. Fine, but I`ve heard better FF albums

Have you ever heard of Hüsker Dü? I bet Dave Grohl has! At least this is better (with the exception of The Colour and Shape) then all the shite that came after.

This has to be the most bland set of Foo Fighters songs I have listened to. It doesn’t really have the highs and lows of their later catalogue so you’re left with the uninspiring middle. It was an ok listen but left me disappointed.

You can feel the emotion behind the rock in this album. Lots of feeling, lots of yelling, lots of rocking. Was good for keeping me awake at work today. 3 stars

I much preferred Nirvana from earlier this week.

good in the background, not an album I'd put on to really listen to tho

This album is fine. It’s rough around the edges, and DG shows off his musicianship and grunge roar adequately. I like the songs for the most part. They have a decent energy and catharsis. However, there isn’t much variety on there, and the beat is relentless. It sounds very much like the cheap band you booked because Nirvana were too expensive. It’s pretty front loaded and drags a bit towards the end, but on the whole it’s a decent listen. I like it well enough, and it’s probably the best offering from the Foos. It’s just not that innovative or inspiring.

very nostalgic

high energy and non-Stop garage punk diy sort of vibe

Another one from my teenage years, but didn’t find that this one held up as well. A few stand out tracks, but found myself struggling to connect.

Where it all began again. Dave Grohl delivers a catchy and scratchy solo debut, picking up where his last band left off but adding even more big radio sensibilities. Tight bangers abound. Favourite tracks: This Is a Call, Big Me, Alone + Easy Target, Good Grief

Haven't been able to get in the Foo Fighters that much, but this was pretty great overall.

Definitely not a bad album, but for me it's a bit too basic and repetitive. Songs like "Big Me" and "Floaty" and "X-Static" are my favourites. I really disliked "Weenie Beenie" and "Wattershed". All the other songs are good but nothing special. 7/10

Not exactly an essential album, but perfect if you want to chart out the exact middle of the road

It sounds like a Foo Fighters album, everything in there is an instant classic and I can hear clearly how it inspired the rest of their discography. Not their best of course considering Dave Grohl did everything in the album but you can learn how much impact that gave to the band.

Dave Grohl seems like an all around awesome rock and roll dude. Which the world needs more of. However, outside of Everlong and Best of You I gotta say the Foo Fighters have never really done it for me.
