Reviews (page 10 of 12)
O K
prog, good sound, repetitive songs
Yes produces a blissed-out mood with a more organic palette than is typical for prog. None of the compositions are especially compelling, but they do manage to include as much emotional resonance as a guitar solo can.
Really darned good.
I like the bright, cheerful energy of these songs. The music is complex and ambitious like a lot of prog-rock but you can also hear the band enjoying themselves on these big, long songs. There’s a looseness in the performances even while the song structures are complex. The band seems to enjoy improvising and a lot of the solos have a spontaneous, even jazzy feel. “I’ve Seen All Good People” is a highlight. It’s the one track I knew and it really stands out here.
Intressant! Lite Rush, lite Boston. Får bli fler lyssningar.
I knew Yes only from "owner of a lonely heart", so I knew they were all great instrumentalists. This album shows that as well, but it just does that. It lacks really great songs
Not as annoying as I'd feared, and much shorter if you don't listen to the deluxe album.
I am familiar with Yes, but don't know much of their catalog. The only songs I know of theirs are: Owner of a Lonely Heart, and Roundabout, neither of which are on this album, so I am looking forward to today's listen. Yes is a prog/psychadelic rock band from Britain. This album maintained the bands sound (a heavy helping of Hammond organ playing, mixed up with some surprisingly good guitar licks, beautiful lyrical harmonies, and smooth, melodic bass), but they stretched the songs out to longer run times to allow the music to develop better. That being said, the average song length on this album is 6+ minutes. A lot of the songs are compilations, marked in the song title by their distinct parts (ie: "Starship Trooper:A) Life Seeker, B) Disillusion, C) Wurm", or "I've Seen All Good People: A) Your Move, B) All Good People"). Because of this extended length, I found it really hard to maintain focus most of the time. The music was beautiful, but one song ran into the next and became very hard to differentiate between. Is it just me, or does the first organ lick in the song Yours Is No Disgrace share the same rhythm with the "new British emergency services phone number" from The IT Crowd: 0118-999-881-999-119-725....3, lol Favourite song: The Clap (an instrumental number that is just acoustic guitar, but it shows amazing technique) Least favourite songs: Perpetual Change (there is a squeal that plays at one point in the song that almost made me go deaf, it was so high pitched), A Venture 3/5
Technically great but it doesn’t captivate me.
The second halve of I've seen all good people is probably my favourite part of this album. You can hear they are good musicians and I know steve Howe is a great guitarist but overall I feel like some songs lack a hook that catches my attention
A very formative band to prog rock and music as a whole just not really my type of music. But I do really have to appreciate the arrangements on it and just how good some of the guitar is.
It's not my favourite Yes album, but it's still some enjoyable prog
Having listened to a lot of this kind of music in high school, I can say this hasn’t particularly aged well.
komischi synths mer merkt, dasa es alt isch singe nervt biz Cooli grooves Spannendi wechsel
I liked this more than I thought I would, but it still wasn't anything to write home about. Best track: I've Seen All Good People
Listened while running. Got lost in some instrumental parts (in a good way). Some other parts sounded like they were supposed to be musical songs.
solid
I liked this a lot - it didn't require a ton of attention and despite being prog rock I felt it was groovy and made sense rhythmically. Lots of prog rock can throw you off the groove but I didn't get that sense listening to this. The harmonies vocally were pretty good too. But kind of an annoyingly high tenor at times. Some of the time signature changes were a bit rushed later in the album though.
Outside of owner of a lonely heart I have essentially zero experience with Yes. They’ve got strands of Rush, Queen and Pink Floyd, though I guess most prog rock bands around that time have similarities. Perpetual Change is wild with that abrupt key/tempo change. Your move might be my favorite song bc of the harmonies. I liked this album more and more as it went along. Starship trooper is a lot of fun, too.
Another one of those one word bands that when they jam they bring are hot but when the lead singer opens their mouth you just sit their waiting for them to shut up and get back to jamming. Yes is one of these bands. Tl;dr Yes is a no on a lyrical level. (Würm is the best part on here.)
It was aight....
This is proggy alright, but with a heavy folk influence. Of the longer songs, most are in different sections that could be songs in their own right. Songwrighting is mixed. An OK album, certainly influential for its time, but not for me. 2.5/5
Idk, giving it a 3 in case a find it less bland later
Was surprised that I enjoyed this album after years of hating this band. The Clap really threw me off. Did not see that coming. Good people is a fantastic tune.
3.4 - solid prog rock. A little too epic and grandiose for my taste at times, but balanced nicely by its precision on complexity.
A couple of interesting tracks interspersed with rather boring guitar noodling.
I dug in and enjoyed it. I consider Yes to be a sort of minor band in my pantheon, but it was enjoyable and melodic. Everything I expected and the hits I love, especially I've Seen All Good People were cool to revisit.
Not bad, not great, a few good songs, but nothing special.
So many missed joke opportunities for this review, due to the album being a "yes" from me and not a "no." I know Yes, but only from their hit singles, of which there are fewer than I'd realized. "Owner of a Lonely Heart" in fact comes 12 years after this album, and after numerous lineup changes and even a dissolution and reforming. In between it seems was an excessive amount of prog rock and Eastern spiritual experimentation? But "The Yes Album" is, for the most part, what I like about prog rock. "I've Seen All Good People" is deserving of its place in their limited greatest hits. A couple tracks lost their way in their meanderings, but overall I enjoyed the album. I have to say "no" to "The Clap" though. In all its forms. But this particular form, that being a bluegrass instrumental, might be ok in another setting. However, it just doesn't fit here.
My first thought before hitting play is that a 6 song, 42 minute album is hard to pull off and make interesting. Let’s see where this takes us… Was ABBA’s fantasmagoric The Visitors (song) influenced by Yes’s Yours Is No Disgrace? There is a synthesizer part in the Yes song instrumental where I kept adding a synthesizer part from ABBA in my head. Example: the Yes song at 8:58 feels like it’s missing the ABBA song’s contribution from 2:41. Yes is most certainly progressive rock, with their artistic detours part of the actual trip, not an aside. Personally, it’s all fine but it seems a bit indulgent.
Essentially very very prog. Having never heard this album before I compared it instantly with Rush - I like Rush - this is a good album but not as good as '2112', 'Moving Pictures' or 'Permanent Waves' in my opinion...
I won't turn it off if it came on the radio.
Pretty good, not quite up to the level of Close to the Edge though.
Fine train listening
Yes to this It's not as ambitious as Close to the Edge, and doesn't have a standout single like Fragile, but it's still just another solid prog album from one of the best bands to do it
prog royals, leuk album maar niet weggeblazen
Yes’s good songs are some of my favorite stuff out there, but the individual albums have a lot of songs that just don’t work for me
Interesting album enjoyed listening to their psychedelic ramblings. One thing this process has taught me is not to fear songs longer than 10 minutes!!
3.5, and I really was on the fence between 3 and 4. The problem with this album was, even though I enjoyed The Clap, most tracks I found myself enjoying little moments instead of the overall sound. It was interesting, sure, but that unfortunately doesn't always translate to enjoyment. I would definitely use this as background music but would need to listen more carefully if I wanted to appreciate it more.
I’ve Seen All Good People est dans les meilleures pièces du groupe.
I mean...this album was a whole lot of meh for me. Didn't love it, didn't hate it either. Fave track, "A Venture," was pretty good. But even then, not blown away. Can't say this was a waste of time--I see the appeal--but I didn't adore it either. Solidly middle of the road for me.
Proggy noodler nonsense. It's okay
gets better after boring ass first song
Good
Pleasantly surprised. Thought they’d be more rock or more…something else
7/10 Best Song - Yours is no disgrace
I’ve Seen All Good People est dans les meilleures pièces du groupe.
Not bad.
Would enjoy more if the songs weren’t so long
Yes thanks
This has my dad written all over it. 9 minute progressive suites and a random 3 minute acoustic guitar solo.
Yes... This album is both interesting and bland at times. It can be very great musically, great instrumentation and meshing with the vocals, but at times, it feels boring. Feels like it is trying to capture the essence of a pop rock band feel, but way too in the lines. It sounded cookie cutter at times, which may have been the reason I found it boring at times. Good album, but can get lost in between.
Pretty good album with one great song.
Rock progresivo.
2nd listen. Wish I liked it more than I do. It's good, but not that great for me. 3/5
Yes, you can.
A seminal album from an often overlooked and underappreciated group from the late 60's / early 70's rock hay day. This album has notable tracks and singles, as well as strong B-Sides. The most impressive part is the length, it is short and sweet and doesn't overstay its welcome in the slightest, making it an album that begs for multiple listenings.
unlike my wife, I don't hate Yes. but I thought this was a pretty average album. one really great song, but the rest was generic prog rock.
Prog rock that just never got going
I'm not a huge fan of anything labelled as prog rock, and at first listen I was unimpressed by this album - it went down slightly smoother on a Saturday morning repeat, but this isn't one I'd listen to regularly.
Actually not bad, if you don't mind the high pitched voice
Good.
Interesting stuff
Pretty fun, classic prog
Not really my thing couldn’t listen to the whole thing
Meh
Good soup 3.0
Anfang, Yours Is No Disgrace, hat mich direkt zum Fam gemacht. Stücke 2 und 4, The Clap und I‘ve Seen All Good People mit ihrem Folk und ihrem Bluesrock aber wieder abgewöhnt.
Eh a 2.5 but I guess not that bad. Songs were unnecessarily long but musically it was ok though. More like a long jam session.
Technically brilliant but seemingly self-aware prog rock. Meh
We like progressive music, but this one is both aged and surpassed. Also, it's not Yes' best.
Test
Prog. 7/10
Prog. Best Tracks: Yours Is No Disgrace; I've Seen All Good People; Perpetual Change
The usual 70s classic rock. Cool guitar, lyrics remind me of Phish.
A good album from an ambitious rock band. Many interesting songs and instrumental arrangements.
Time signatures
Rating: 6/10
Mellow album to put on in the background. Not sure I'd listen on purpose though. The talent is palpable and obvious but just not my thing.
Pretty catchy. Not my thing
It was ok, a few good songs but not really anything that I'd wanna listen to again
Pretty good, technically excellent and sounds great.
First song was good. All I've listened to so far.
it was a really nice sound!
why are all the good songs so long
While the ho-dunk diddles throughout are an enjoyable interlude, they weren't enough for me to feel like there was really anything that made each song standout and more so, anything that made this album stand out from other similar work.
Surprisingly conventional rock. Pleasant singing. Some good bits - Wurm sounds like 90s grunge riffing. Was expecting more exquisite Chris Squire Rickenbacker picking like Roundabout.
What I've now learnt to be a classic Yes album. Amazing musicianship, mad lyrics and long songs.
Another prog rock album. Not bad
classic rock
so much guitar.
Some really interesting stuff on this album. Really innovative instrumental and recording techniques, which I assume is what put this on the list. Also interesting to have multiple songs arranged into a single track.
Finally got round to listening to YES, The Yes Album. Three outstanding tracks - Yours is no disgrace, Starship Trooper and I've seen all good people. 3/5. Listened to Fragile by mistake first which I believe is a better album.
Almost really like it, but there is just not enough to get above a 3/3.5. Instruments are good and vocals are fine but nothing jumps off the page and its a shorter album. If you are going to only have 6 songs there is not much room for filler
Yes? Maybe.
This is quite enjoyable - long-form songs but good hooks and it doesn't go neo-classical which is always a good thing.
it was ok
A pleasant, AOR album. The iconic "I see good people" is represented here in its multiple incarnations, as well as other classics.
Rock medio psicodélico y sin estridencias. Agradable de escuchar
This is much better than the album "Fragile". I think that is more "conventional" but for sure better.
Surprisingly good. 3.5
En fin, "Starship Trooper: Life Seeker - Single Version" me gustó. 7/10
yes
I liked the album but didn't love it.
Very prog much wow. Great instrumentation.
this was a great listen
i'm down to jam hard to "owner of a lonely heart" any time but this prog rock stuff.....not for me.
olroit
All over the place. It was pretty ok but not really something I’d bother with on the reg.
Pretty fun, I need to spend more time with Yes because their catalog seems huge.
Probably a 4 star album of I was rating 20-30 years ago.
Good European big-hair 70s rock.
Not bad, a bit generic.
Fav song: I've Seen All Good People
Starts out amazing. Some great tracks go into some ok tracks. Then "I've seen all good people" comes on and it'd amazing. Rest of thr album is ok 3.5
A Yes Album with some good tunes.
Nothing to stand out here, but enjoyed the album. Probably needs another few spins.
Really like this record, and Steve Howe's guitar playing in particular. However, it was in the albums that followed where I feel Yes really hit their stride, both in terms of composition and performance. Regardless, a nice collection of songs and a sign of what was to come.
Better than I anticipated. Wide-ranging and fun.
Better than expected
Generally pleasant to listen to and some interesting sounds but overall, not my most favourite album
The instrumentals are amazing. There was a lack of lyrics, but the instruments made up for it.
of course it's great
Man I just can’t get into Yes. But this one is far better than the others on here.
Holy shit that first one is some noodle ass shit. Really like the clap. Reminds me of Led Zepp in the best way. The rest is okay, but prog just isn't my cup of meat.
Awful stuff. 1.5/5. Raising to 2.
Prog rock. Bleh
Kind of corny
Fairly decent
Cool! Glad I listened. I liked some songs more than others.
Yes! No. Maybe so? There are some sweet moments nestled within the 42-minute runtime (Ex. The guitar panning on Yours is No Disgrace, the first half of I’ve Seen All Good People, etc.), but the songs themselves have little momentum; they just sort of meander. Sometimes the transitions feel a bit abrupt, clumsy or downright silly—I struggle when the music steps into whimsical, rock-opera territory. It doesn’t help that I felt emotionally disconnected from the lyrics, which are predominantly a big nothingburger. There was little to chew on, the harmonies were just alright, and the band’s energy was so-so. Unfortunately, everything here just kinda ran off of me.
It’s like the bit in The Inbetweeners when Simon gets the suit for the school dance, except instead of “Too jazzy?” it’s more like “Too proggy?”. Yes, it is a bit too proggy, actually.
Just another prog rock album. Rush does it better. 4/10 Top song Yours is no disgrace
not my tempo
I was a Yes fan for a long time (periodic re-listens to Tales of Topographic Oceans), but have little memory of this album. I'm positive about "progressive rock" generally - first track on this album sounds like they wanted to rock, I think they failed to do so. What else did they want to do - I wonder if it's accurate that they wanted to show they were serious musicians, just like those classical music swots? After giving this album a sustained listen (trying to find and appreciate the good bits), I had a little browse, and was strangely led back to my favourite C20 avant garde piano piece, Fanfares by György Ligeti - which is both 'difficult' and 'accessible'. The comparison between Ligeti's 1985 composition and Yes in 1971 was most unfavourable to Yes. This album is not really serious, it's mildly pretentious, too many of the songs have multiple sections which really don't work together - it has some very mild inventiveness of riffs and conjunctions, but little apparent purpose, and very limited impacts. There's some good playing (Howe, Squire and Bruford doubtless talented), but IMO it is not good playing as a band, and this is Pretty Poor as an album, 3/10.
Nope
It was ok but tracks are way too long and as much as I appreciate the form it felt like listening a band practice in the studio
rock muy progresivo no se entiende nada
Congratulations! You played all the notes. "I've Seen All Good People" just reminds me of the trailer for Big Fish, so that's the only positive association I have with this album.
Im not a progger. Punk saved us from all that nonsense. Having said this this being early Yes we have not got to the stage of medieval tournaments and endless Wakeman solos. That raises the score to a two.
Meh. I don't mind Yes, but other than the couple of semi decent songs that I know from this album it's just about okay. Listenable, but barely mediocre.
Not bad
Quite o.k. but nothing that really hooks me. 2,5
4/10 - some decent tracks but still another generic 70s album
Maybe because im 950 deep and my standards have been reset. But this was very very average 70's nonsense. Well played but nothing that caught my attention at all. I listened twice and genuinely cant remember a thing about it.
My second Yes album since my start. I enjoyed "Fragile". But this one? Nope! Just nope! In my opinion it only got 2 good songs on it: Yours Is No Disgrace & Perpetual Change. The rest is boring and lame. Oh and "Clap" is one of the worst songs I ever heard. If you even can call this a song. 2/5
I often look at long things and think they could have been better for being shorter: books, walks, relationships, and now The Yes Album joins the catalogue. Call the editor, take the shortcut, don’t wait until you hate them to call it, and trim the fat off the bone of the 8 minute hogs. Listened to Yours is No Disgrace as summer did in fact turn to winter in real time & my trainers let in the rain after a week long heatwave. Really enjoy the line “mother life hold firmly on to me”. The repetition has pissed me off - it’s the artists job to listen to the evolution of their music and pick the good bits- not the listeners. In short, no. Best of the bunch: Your Move (single version)
Christ, I’m not sure if I’m just overloaded with 70s rock and my tolerance is down but this drivel is surely not worthy of a place on this list…another challenge to see through to the end.
zzzzzz
More like No... Amiright?
2.5. I like this substantially less than the other Yes album covered in this list.
2.25 - I liked this less than Fragile. It had some moments.
I can't tell if I like his voice or if it annoys me, it works on some tracks and not other. The songs also felt way too long IMO. Debating between 1 and 2 stars. I mean I didn't really like it, but it was listenable. Some parts were okay. TOP song: I've Seen All Good People
Cheesy! Did not like this. Just thought the songs were very repetitive and don’t go anywhere, not like King Crimson. No heaviness no weight no progression.
Yes but no. Weak debut for my taste
too much instrumental, also 10mins for one song ????
This is an album that's never sitting still. As far as progressive rock goes it's not all that complex or overwrought. In fact, some of the songs feel like pop rock songs in places. What it does though is add a little flourish or addition to basically every melody, which, when put together all in a row, makes the songs feel a bit busy. The guitar solos are pretty good as they're not overdone and have plenty of room to breathe. But they're often the only real interesting parts of the songs, which lack intriguing hooks or progressions. Not the worst prog rock I've heard, but also not an album that's going to convince someone who isn't a fan of the genre.
No queda guardado
This album was dissapointing. I was expecting some fast prog jams (like the last Yes album, Fragile) Instead, we got a sleepy album.
Pretty strong evidence that the correct number of rock songs utilize movements in the song titles. The last part of Starship Trooper was sick though
"Rush" but with better vocals.
Oh no, not Yes again. I didn't like Fragile, so I know I’m not going to like this album either. This whole prog stuff isn't for me; I find it pretty boring. Plus, the songs are so long and they don't really offer anything new along the way. It’s just the same thing for ten minutes. It’s just not for me. I’ll never be able to enjoy something like this, unfortunately. If you like it, congrats, but I just don't. I enjoy the "Starship Trooper" song at around the seven-minute mark because it kind of sounds like Radiohead. Don't come for me; I’m not a music expert, I’m just saying what it sounds like to me. God, the hit from this album is so boring; I can't stand it. Why does it switch mid-song? I know I said if a song is long it should have something interesting along the way, a change of pace, but I didn't mean switching to an entirely different song in the middle of the current one. There is no transition or fading; it just straight-up cuts to it, like a Family Guy cutaway gag. Oh, it’s multiple songs in one? Okay, I got it, my bad. It’s so hard to think of the songs I liked and the ones I didn't because I’m so indifferent about this album. It just exists. Each and every song made me feel the exact same way. It’s fine, I guess, but it’s just not something I’d listen to at all, and I’m glad I wasn’t born at a time when this was more popular. I don't even know what to rate this. It’s so eh. I gave Fragile a 2, and that was more interesting than this; at least it had some cool elements. "Roundabout" is a groovy song; I like it. I think it’s the only reason I gave that album a 2. However, I’m not sure this deserves a 1. It’s not outright terrible, so maybe a lower 2? Since it’s worse than Fragile, maybe a 1.6? Around there seems about right. I like the album cover, though. If only the music was half as good as that. Favorite song: Starship Trooper (specifically Würm) Least favorite song: Clap
I honestly cannot believe that there are 3 Yes albums on this list (at least). I have yet to hear anything on them that makes me think that one merits a place. Too much noodling and not enough structure. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
Key modulation and whacking a flanger onto everything doesn’t necessarily make a good song but it seems like no one told ‘Yes’. This is the bad side of prog, where virtuosic musicians noodle away on their instruments of choice without producing much of value. There are some pockets of nicer elements (acoustic guitar on ‘the clap’, the recorder backing on ‘I’ve seen all good people’) but far too busy, lacking meaningful structure, or otherwise connected with me.
Meh
- My first thought is that this album is way shorter than I thought it would be - Oh, the first song is 9 minutes. That's probably why lol - Yours Is No Disgrace: I like how funky the guitar and bass are, the synthesizer, but I'd say it's pretty mid other than that. I can easily zone out or do work with this in the background. 5:00 is fire. It's like a face off between the instruments. 6/10 good for studying but not really memorable - The Clap: Ohh it's so silly. I like how this band plays the guitar. This song lowkey reminds me of better days. 4.5/10 didn't even realized when it ended - Starship Trooper: Uhhh, I'm confused on this name. The song is kinda mid as well. I really cannot do jam bands, generator. Wait, I highkey love this groovy guitar at 3:30. The harmonies are fire as well. Ooh, nevermind I like this. 5.5/10 cus it was bad at first but I liked it more - I've Seen All Good People: Omg I know this song- my dad loves this one. This is quite the wholesome song and I quite like it. 7/10 duhditduhditduhditduhdit - A Venture- Hmm...peculiar start. I like it! It tells a story. 6/10 - Perpetual Change- BOOORRINNGGGG 2/10 Overall rating of the album: 4.8/10 not my favorite but very much of it's time. A true jam band and I can appreciate their talent but not for me lol
Not really for me, and while I would be interested in listening to more progressive rock, I would not want to listen to this album again. It is a little all over the place in my opinion and not in a free flowing way that usually interests me. I can acknowledge its influence, but there was not a song on the album I would personally like to listen to again.
Not for me 2
A college friend loved this. I never could.
Glamrock is too convoluted for me
meh
was expecting this to be a lot less unique than it actually was. this one's folksy and not quite fully-formed into prog rock like Fragile or Close To The Edge. i'd say that the proggy elements on here are the ones i find a bit annoying and unserious, though. deserves to be one of the 1001? eh you can cut this one
It was alright and some classics were on there. Probably won't listen to it again.
131. ok
nah
Not my kinda taste, few listenable songs, album have 4 discs and the same songs is mental though
OK . I kind of remember this sound ... elements of Genesis instrumentals at times . Not sure I'd listen again though . Almost a 3 , top end of 2
This was a bit of a slog from start to finish!
Prog nonsense
Really dislike the lyrics/imagery of Prog - Yes. Genesis, Rush. ELP..all will be culled in my upcoming Progrom.
Hmm, yes, Yes. Let’s just say that the bonus tracks were the highlight. Sadly they don’t count.
It’s like The Who had a baby with The Partridge Family.
No.
(50/100)
Yes is still a no for me but I liked this album more than I was expecting.
Fine but nothing special
Not my favourite
Was alright. Nothing really stands out, I am sure they will on here again with a better album. Mostly harmless.
Bands like this do because they can, not because they should.
Meh. This deluxe edition is an album with over 4h, so I went and listened to the short version. One or two good songs, the rest are just too repetitive or just sound like intros...
It was fine. Nothing fabulous to be excited about for me
favs: the clap i’ve seen all good people: a. your move, b. all good people rating 1.6/5
Track 1: Good opening song, annoying vocalist Track 2: nice acoustic song Track 3: meh Track 4: boring song. About chess or something Track 5: goofy. Old timey sound Track 6: cheesy intro Don't like singer's voice.
to instrumental sto track 1 allou
Surprisingly little Wakeman keyboard noodling. Surpisingly lots of acoustic and folk rock. It's fine, but nothing special
Yes, they have talent. Does that talent translate to something I want to listen to? No.
The band may be Yes but for me it’s a No ❤️ this is objectively bad
Yes this is prog rock, No I didn't need to listen to this before I die.
not my cut of tea
meeeeh
They're very good at their instruments but I don't like the sounds they're making
Yes has some classics, but none of them are on this album in my opinion.
There is some great bass on this album. I put on the good headphones, which allowed for the stereo to really come through. I braced myself for SIX songs on a ~42ish minute album. I reminded myself I started this for a reason. The reason? To discover new music and to rediscover things I hadn't listened to for a long time, fully knowing that there would be albums on the list that I cannot, nay, WILL not abide. This is one of them. Are there some great Yes songs? Sure. Of course there are. There's a reason that they have endured and people love them 54 years after this, their third studio album. Am I one of those people? NO I AM NOT. Again, Prog rock. I already went on my diatribe about prog rock so I'm not going to drag you through that again, but literally no one needs an 11 minute song that has three sections and features (checks notes) "cosmic imagery, spiritual searching, and New Age philosophy. Inspired by Robert Heinlein's novel of the same name, the song centers on a 'guardian angel' figure and the individual's journey to find inner divinity and truth." Or maybe you do. I'm not going to judge if you love it but I tapped out about 6 minutes into that song because even with the good headphones, it was a LOT. I've Seen All Good People also has three parts and clocks in at 7 minutes. I am thankful that the radio generally cuts this to 3-4 minutes. And you know what? I enjoy those 3-4 minutes. It's an immediately recognizable song - and the mandolin at the very beginning is lovely. Plus, there are some pan-esque flutes. Oh no! What if Zamfir is on this list? I will absolutely drop dead. Also, I looked for a gif of Zamfir and his Magical Pan Flute, and this is what popped up (amongst some other things that are NSFW). Standout: Owner of a Lonely Heart Yes, I KNOW it's not on this album, but so what. It's their best song, IMO
Very long album and songs are super 70s + similar
veel vage nummers, een paar leuke
more pretentious claptrap
Favorite Song: Yours Is No Disgrace
Only one more of these to get through. The No Album. Worse than Fragile.
I really dislike music where the sole purpose is to showcase the musicians’ skills, with no catchy parts. Yes is one of those bands. It was a struggle to get through in one sitting. I even tried to listen to it again, just in case I’d been missing something. I found it even worse, so I quit halfway through.
as mid as their other album. this one doesn't have roundabout on it so it gets a lower score.
Not my thing, not a fan of that classic rock sound.
This was quite a fun listen. 40 min just 6 songs, I thought the longer songs would drag more. But I quite like it
After listening to this 3 or 4 times, its rarely got above background noise, never mind essential listening. The real issue that I have with it is the segues off from a reasonable tune into forgettable bits of drivel before returning to a point where you can't understand why you're still listening to the same song, with Track 1 and 6 being cases in point. Track 3 is a bit better, and probably my favourite, but it still sometimes occasionally meanders into blandness. Track 2 is a live instrumental track, I think. Track 4 is shit. I've listened to Track 5 four times and can't remember anything about it! I like Owner Of A Lonely Heart, so I might give 90125 a listen. This unessential album avoids the ignominy of 1 star through a few decent moments but I won't listen to it again, but I do wonder if Rick Wakeman added a bit more oomph to the keyboard solos on later albums. A low 2☆.
I want to like Yes. They are an amazing band. But I just don’t - too muddy, mushy, messy. That’s because they are great musicians doing complex arrangements, but still….I just can’t connect with this music emotionally and that’s what matters most to me.
This was fine, nothing special. It got boring and repetitive very quickly though
Idk, it just sounds tiring after a while. Complex and with talented musicians but doesn't take a pause or actually stop to consider what does a good song sound like

Meh
No
Kinda weird and annoying
I feel the same way about this album as I do so many other prog albums: yes, the playing is technically on another level, but there's no emotion here.
Slightly ashamed of my teen self. 40+ years ago I loved this. Still got it on vinyl. Listening to it now it brought back a lot of memories- but it’s not very good.
Figured there had to be a Yes song I’m familiar with. There was.
Nah.
No. This isn't the worst early 70s prog rock but... it's still early 70s prog rock. There are a couple decent songs. 2.5 rounding down
Regulíb regulag. Albúm muy plano. Soporífero
I generally enjoy progressive rock, but I will admit that most of what I like comes from the mid 1970's and later. And I have never, ever, gotten into Yes. Save for the one song that everyone says is the black sheep of the discography "Owner of a Lonely Heart". So here we have The Yes Album from 1971. Immediately, 1st song, 1st note songs like some 1960's psychedelic nonsense, and then the organ comes in and I feel like I'm in for 40 minutes of pain. It gets better when the rest of the band kicks in, but it was a bad first impression. Then the vocals come in and there is good harmony, but why are they trying to fit in three times the words than actually fit with the music?? It's distracting. Also, just generally not a fan of the lead singer's voice. Anyway, that's kind of my experience with everything on the album (except for the nice acoustic song with the terrible title: "The Clap"). A few decent instrumental parts, harmonies that fight with the music, and generally just not an album I had a good time listening to.
not a fan of prog rock
Very, very noodly
It's hardcore twee and I'm just not in the mood for this much noodling.
Too much rock organ! Too cheesy! Vibe is the score of a rock & roll musical but without a plot! Bowie without a concept! Paul McCartney’s worst instincts!
Prog rears its ugly head. Miss me with song suites and 8 minute tracks. Some decent musicianship, but it’s still a pass from me.
Not any worse than any other prog album of that era, which doesn't make it good. I find myself bored to tears with most of this stuff, which perhaps is a personal character flaw.

Strange album. First song sounded like it belonged on a Mario Kart soundtrack. Second track was a virtuoso level live acoustic guitar performance. The rest of the album was over-psychedelic mush. I actually knew Perpetual Change, not sure where from. Didn’t love it.
It had some good moments but overall was too drawn out and up its own arse.
Stop trying to make Yes happen
Es gibt Besseres von YES.

No me enteré de na

Bare vas. Fet basslyd, da.
Feel like I have to listen to it a lot to grow into liking it.
Pretty boring tbh. Some tracks are alright, but their prime (Fragile) was yet to come months later.
Prog still isn't my thing, too many things happening at once, doesn't feel like there's a real cohesive song anywhere. The Clap was interesting though, as a single guitar piece.
Yeah okay
*1971. *I've only kind of heard the first song - Yours is No Disgrace. *I'm not sure how this isn't Rush. Have we ever seen then in the same room before? *Not a Rush fan. *There's just so much synth. *I don't hate it, but it just sounds silly... RATING - 5.5/10
Boring noise
Made me think of Tim Tobish. I liked “Perpetual Chance” until I realized it’s almost 9 mins long. Haha. Not for me.
So wanky. Impressive wanking, however.
Instrumentally it’s all way too zany for me, playing the same notes in unison before breaking out into mysterious wandering space age prog. The backbone of the band is very much music as a blunt instrument, with lots of frills layered on top of it. Vocally it’s a bit more my speed and helps up the game of the overall sound.
Prog! A couple of decent tracks - all the people. Not my cuppa.
No
#195/1001. Lets see what kind of people enjoy progressive music: - people who think rock music should have similar rules like classical music - nerds who think the more the music is like math the better - people who are stoned - those boys who never learned more than 3 chords on the guitar - people who don’t understand what good songwriting consists of - people who enjoy when 5 songs are glued together into one 14 minute ”song” All these or none of these. Not for me though.
Dislike. 2 stars.
good and fun but boring and stale
Nine songs, 53 minutes. Oye. This is going to be painful. Yup, there are three 9 minute songs here. British prog rock is becoming the bane of my existence. Y'all can have Rush (yes, I know they're Canadian), and King Crimson, and then let's call the genre fully represented on this list. Yes, this has Yes's biggest hit, All Good People. I swear until today, I thought it was by some iteration of CSNY. So, that's about what that's worth to me. Influence 3? Quality 2. Intangibles (this category isn't supposed to hurt albums, FYI. But here the proginess of it all is killing my soul) 1. Hits 3. I. Hate. Prog. Rock. 1
This prog stuff just isn’t for me. I really struggle with the noodling around and lack of structure on a lot of tracks here. But i recently had Brittany Spears, so bonus star for being a real band and good musicians.
British fantasy nerds trying to make "avant-garde" rock
Only one hit on this album. Not a big fan
had some catchy moments but overrral i felt these songs just lasted for way longer than they should have
Not a big prog fan
No.
No Okay, I got that out of my system. Apparently I'm not that into prog rock, because every time I hear something that's called that, it doesn't do anything for me. I can appreciate some of the harmonies and some of the tracks were fun, but ultimately not my speed.
Ho hum
Pop rock in the early 70s. Good clean fun but nothing I’m writing home about.2
Just at one point of a several minute, repetitive drone does anyone go "hey, maybe wrap this up?"
2.5, overwhelmingly mediocre
70s arty prog = not my thing. I mean, I kinda liked Starship Troopers, but the rest of it feels so pompous and affected and overwrought. Even the big hit is kinda meh.
("A venture").
Summa sumarum.
Bit meh 2
Just not my favorite genre
Yes get so much better than this, and also so much worse. It’s fine
Hipster bullshit.
This is the type of progressive rock album that caused such a vehement reaction from punk. Musical prodigies recording self-indulgent songs with no additional substance, that (majestic) chord progressions, impossible drum fills. The acoustic guitar-based songs sound good, though. I may trigger some genre enthusiasts and even some contradictions (I love Led Zeppelin and Rush), but this album is definitely not for me.
Why tho
It's so prog.
Prog often goes one of two ways. Either it's great storytelling set to music and mind-blowingly beautiful or it's inconsequential noodling with fractured lyrics here and there. Yes is the latter. Songs/Suites mostly ranging from 6 to 9 minutes in length that go on and on and on. Saying in 7 minutes what could have been said in 4 is not a flex. Top Track = Clap
It sounds like every other progressive rock album from that era. While there are some interesting moments and fine solos, it often drags and becomes a bit boring.
good instrument, singing annoying All good people
Never liked this specific genre, I understand those that like progressive, I respect the skill/talent, but it's definitely not my thing!!
No
objectively not a bad album but deeply not my thing
