4/10. Not good.
It's better than, say, Metallica. But, notwithstanding Steve Tyler's good voice, it's just kind of boring.
Eh. It's Aerosmith.
Ok 2/5
Eh, didn't love
Can't say I understood the hype for Aerosmith; a perfectly average rock band. I remember hearing "Last Child" on Guitar Hero II, but didn't really care for it then either. There are glimmers of greatness, but nothing truly stands out.
Knew a few songs, not really an Aerosmith fan.
While I have heard Aerosmiths most famous songs I haven't listened to this album or any of these songs before. And after doing it I understand why I never listened to more than the greatest hits. The audio mix and scream-singing he does over and over makes me fell uncomfortable more than it makes me rock out. I like a lot of old-school rock but this doesn't hit that note with me at all. This is an album I wont be searching up again.
Ehhhhhh greatest hits band although I like back in the saddle and rats in the cellar.
⭐⭐ 4/10 Had to listen to van Halen and Led Zeppelin afterwards to rinse my ears. The vocals and funk feel awkward at best. I was looking forward to Aerosmith as I've never heard an album from them before, but this one does not hit the spot.
No me dice nada nuevo.
Never really cared for Aerosmith, but it's nothing I hate. Just totally fine.
For about half of this, Steven Tyler‘s voice didn’t annoy me as much as usual. And then it did. And did every song last about an hour? Or was that just me? Really not my thing. I’d like to just throw these Rocks in a gulch.
It's fine. I'm sure stevens vocals were quite genre pushing at the time but for me at this stage, I found it entirely forgettable. 2/5
Gear: Fostex TH610 Artwork: 💎💎💎💎💎 Production: 🎧😘🤌 Music: 🎸🦅🤔 Rating: 💎💎/5
Boring. 2/5
Wholly unremarkable - no real stand out tunes or moments. Sounded pretty shonky. Thought it was debut so was surprised this was 5th album and so far from the polished behemoth that's the later day Aerosmith.
More cock rock
Durschnitt.
Another Aerosmith album. For fuck's sake. The idea of using 2 slots for this wank when you're limited to 1001 is ridiculous. As to the music itself. The album is better than Pump. But then again, a solid turd is better than a runny one. They're both still shit at the end of the day. I think this album just about scrapes a 2. It's bad, but my real anger is at the fact it's on this list, not in the music.
gave it a fair try, found it quite tedious. 2
Pretty generic rock album. No big standouts, and overall the songs all seemed to blend together. Fine, but nothing special
The more I revisit this band, the more I think they are a glorified bar band. The parts of this album that I enjoyed were instrumentals like the end of Rats in the Cellar. I find Steven Tyler to be an insufferable vocalist and I find most of these songs to be pretty inconsequential.
Best Song: Back In the Saddle. Stephen Tyler at least lets loose here and stretches his voice in a compelling way. Worst Song: Home Tonight. This feels like the kind of song that would be sung by a cartoon cat in a direct-to-streaming children's movie. Which is to say I don't like it. Overall: After a moderately interesting opening track, it was fully downhill from there. A short, uninspired album of mildly bluesy rock. Weird inclusion on the list, as I feel like Aerosmith has (at least marginally) better albums.
Aerosmith sucks
does not rock.
Absolutely does not rock
Can’t say I enjoyed any of it… 3/10
If this is the funkiest group of white boys you've ever heard, you need a new supply of white boys.
2.5 rounded down not bad or anything but also not necessarily a great album experience.. in fact i don’t think i ever would’ve listened to a full aerosmith album if it weren’t for this list highlights: last child, combination, lick and a promise (mar 17 2026)
No. Just no. Just like on "Toys in the Attic", I can find fleeting moments here, in the harmonies and vocal lines, which elevate this over standard bluesy hard rock fare, but I really don't feel like looking for those.
Eräs mahdollinen maailma: musiikki koostuu pelkistä riffeistä. Kiinnostava ratkaisu, mutta ei kovinkaan kestävä. 2,5
A wholly uninteresting record on it's own, but I have to give credit where it's due. The blueprint laid here for 80's rock bands is hard to ignore.
We remember Rocks, starts out strong - then fades. Back In The Saddle was huge, Last Child is the best cut on the album. The album is good, not great. Not sure it’s 1001 list worthy (2.3*s)
Like all Aerosmith albums this one is another 2fer. Came out swinging with first 2 tracks and then it was meh from them on out. I can see how this album had some influence because they do venture into hair band, grunge, and hard rock. I think the band has done a great job at staying relevant throughout the decades but you really can fit all their good songs on 1 greatest hits album (prob why openmindz owned it). Aerosmith Rocks (sometimes)...2.15.
i don’t think aerosmith and i really get along
Favourite song - last child
Inte särskilt imponerande.
Not a huge Aerosmith fan. Probably won’t go back to this one.
Like a 2.5. It's rocky, I guess.
If rock-and-roll is ice cream, then this is nonfat, sugar free froyo. As bland and as unremarkable as it gets.
Had the Aerosmith album Pump the other day. That one is way better.
Middle of the road rock
langet mit aerosmith
joaaaaaaaa rock
Not the best Aerosmith album!
Sorry - No…maybe at the end of the 70‘s it was famous but I can‘t hear any creativity above the other 1000‘s of hard rock albums…3/10
I think with this album I realised that I'm not really a fan of Aerosmith. Yes, they have some nice songs, but this album was not my thing
Love the bassline for Back In the Saddle. This is a completely unmemorable album. Every song sounds like the 70s. I didn't really think of Aerosmith as Zeppelin rip offs but this album definitely has that vibe. Like more generic Greta Van Fleet...and I just read an article where the GVF guys said they were influenced by Aerosmith not Zeppelin. Some of this sounds like Van Halen, some sounds like ZZ Top. Lick and A Promise showcases how bad Steven Tyler can sound sometimes. His voice is grating. One song at a time is fine, song after song is not good. Joe Perry plays "GENERIC ROCK GUITAR", he sounds like he did the playing for Bill and Ted when they play air guitar.
The most generic rock album in a long time. Their sound is good but man was it uninteresting. Thought "Toys in the attic" was a far better album. Strong 2.
My previous album was Butthole Surfers' Locust Abortion Technician, and this album is the opposite in many ways. Safe, conventional dad-rock, a baseline for American rock music of the 70s, just not very exciting to me, and not classic enough either. Still, I understand why it is part of this list.
Fine. At it's best it sounds like bad Led Zeppelin
yeah that's an aerosmith album
I'm not sure I've ever really been able to put Aerosmith is a genre. The stuff I know from the '90s is so poppy. This sounded like glam metal half the time. I didn't care for it much.
It's one of those albums where I feel like I should like it, but I didn't. This album just didn't do it for me.
Not their best album
umm it sounds like any other rock album, it’s just that they’re really horny
I listened to one track. I wasn't feeling Areosmith yesterday.
Decent album, but not great. Aerosmith brought the guitars, Joe Perry is front and center as he should be. The production value is lackluster, thin, and brassy. It’s an ok album, not great. Couple of cool songs but it’s mostly forgettable. 2.5 but not enough to round to 3.
Sin pena ni gloria.
2.5 Whenever I hear Back in the saddle I always think to myself I should listen to more Aerosmith. But when I do, it doesn't really interest me. I mean the Steve tyler is an all-time front man and the band is really great. Tom Hamilton is very underrated, his playing is great and has written some iconic bass lines. It just doesnt connect with me for some reason
Fine, nothing really to see here
No thanks
this is kinda like the beginnings of dad rock so I'll give it that. But I'm guessing you'd have to be an actual Aerosmith fan to truly appreciate this.
Back In the Saddle is a banger and also the Unofficial theme song of Pure Boys Podcast but the rest are just bleh
In some ways, I do like some of the riffs and even some vocal melodies and lines on this album. However, then there are times when it starts to sound like the Aerosmith they were going to become, which I cannot take. So, all-in-all, this album is okay. I'd call it listenable, but I did not like it, as a whole, and wouldn't want to go back to it.
Real mediocre
Generic Aerosmith. Not bad, just boring
Not one of their best,IMO
Better than expected, but then again: I did not expect much. Liked some of the melodies but most was too mellow and MOTR for me.
It’s okay.
Such a downturn after the first track, and that isn't even particularly appealing. Very by the numbers radio rock stylings of it time, leaving the listener little to grasp onto. Not for me.
If I wanted this I could get it better from ac/dc, the stones, zep etc etc.
Not a genre I would be interested in listening to
I’m just not a hard rocker. Never was. I’m a smooth, easy rocker. The screaming just isn’t for me. I did not like it. Not at all.
It’s fine I guess. You know what Aerosmith is about
I listened to it four times. I can’t recall a single song. It was easy to listen to but completely unmemorable.
If someone were to ask me what my top three music genres are, rock would be on there. The guitar is my favorite instrument. That said, while I try to find rock music to add to my playlists, Aerosmith is hardly on there. It is mild and honestly I cannot imagine Mick Jagger doing what he does to most of his songs. They are boring. It’s like waiting for the bass to drop. I go in thinking wow this is going to be so good and then I’m like 😑. I will say, I feel like if I was in the 70s (idk when this came out) and I was on drugs (which I don’t do) this would probably pop off.
Classic Hard Rock Album. Klingt noch nicht so selbstverliebt wie später.
What is going on? Wasn’t expecting to find this one tedious, maybe there’s been too many rock bands in this list lately…
Rocks Don’t think I’ve listened to many Aerosmith albums. I had the early greatest hits and I had Toys in the Attic, as it was the only place to get the full length version of Sweet Emotion, and I love that song. They do have some real gems across their career but have never been interested enough to do a proper listen. I didn’t mind this - I neither particularly liked it or actively disliked it, a couple of good tracks but a lot of samey-ness. You can hear the influence on bands like G’n’R, but I’d actually rather listen to Appetite for Destruction, which has more excitement and dynamism. Back in the saddle I’ve always liked. Last child is good (riff sounds a bit like Hit me with your Rhythm Stick) Rest of it is fine, nothing stands out, but as I say nothing to actively dislike. Hard to score overall, somewhere around a 2 or 3, but as I’m probably unlikely to listen to it again and I enjoyed Lynyrd Skynyrd more and have that 3, I’ll go for: ⭐️⭐️
Track 1: this was a fun opener to the album. Track 2: fun sad riff into a funky main riff, but it’s kind of a basic riff and chorus. Track 3: decent track. Track 4:okay song not my favorite. Track 5: catchy chorus but kinda average. Track 6: I like this song and the groove it has. And the tone of the song is pretty good. Track 7: I liked the intro to this and kinda the jamming that happens towards the end. Track 8: kinda a basic bluesy song. Track 9: I think this is a good closer for the album. Overall: 5.2/10. Kinda just an average album not bad though just isn’t doing it for me.
Really don't think it was essential for me to have heard this many Aerosmith albums. This one was fine I suppose? Anything is better than Pump. Fave track: Sick as a Dog
Some of these songs I could find myself interested in, but in the end I think I’m just pretending to. This sucks and makes me miss the album they had about the attic. Two stars
Home Tonight 1.5/5
Before today I thought I was an Aerosmith fan, and I guess I am in a Greatest Hits sense of fandom. By the end of the album I was wondering when it would be over. For me it's a 2, I'll listen to the songs I like but don't think I'll revisit the whole album.
I've heard about 1/2 of this album through the radio over the years, which I thinks speaks to the impact they've had on the industry. However, I never realized most of these were Aerosmith—it was always just, “Some classic rock band” in my brain. This album probably deserves at least a 3 or four for musical abilities, but I have to rank it a two because this album does nothing for me, and I spend the entire time counting down the minutes until it was over, so I know I'll likely never come back to it intentionally.
There's there's a good reason this genre didn't travel past America over to us Brits. It's very very boring.
Goddamnit. It’s just such shit, generic, hip thrusting by numbers innit. Absolutely zero to take from this.
Bland bland bland
Vrij standaard rock album verder niks over te zeggen
whatevs
Most songs on the album aren’t terrible. They just can’t be listened to all at once
Just throughly uninteresting and dated.
AJ: Aerosmith has 47 albums in the top 1,000!? Stop it. Cat: lol
The music is not bad but it sounds too much like dad music and it didn't really made me feel anything
Not much memorable. (Was listening to this one while driving on the highway, maybe I didn’t hear it that well?)
J'aime pas trop rock pas fou
Está bien pero me ha aburrido un poco, nunca he sido yo mucho de los Aerosmith la verdad :/
Sin pena ni gloria.2.
- Never listened to this before - Thought it would be ok classic rock and it was - Really not a fan of this kind of stuff but it wasn't bad
Sin pena ni gloria.
I'm sure this was cool at the time, before glam metal before mainstream, hard rock blues like contemporaries ZZ Top. It's fast and busy with a distinctive arena sound. But all the songs blend together. It's so forgettable and boring. They often try going grand and either atmospheric or rampant on a guitar solo at the end of several songs like "Combination" or "Get the Lead Out" which matches with the arena approach and stands out but doesn't do much for me. The only song that felt different was the funky "Last Child." Favorites: Back in the Saddle, Nobody's Fault
Surprisingly very poor.
Glemte å følga med, men trur detta va et av dei svakare Aerosmith-albumene
This here is real music!!! REAL rock music from legends, not like today's rap bullshit (except for Eminem, he's pretty good). These guys knew how to rock! Rock on!! 😎🤘🎸🎶🎶
Half hour album that feels like an hour. I guess I liked it more than Pump but it suffers from all sounding the same and I guess I also just don’t like Steven Tyler’s singing much at all.
Iets ruiger dan hun hitjes misschien, maar toch niet echt overtuigend voor mij.
Ook dit ging volledig aan me voorbij. Ik voel een rode draad.
Heel voorspelbaar en behoorlijk saai eerlijk gezegd.
short but not sweet, bland rock, not feeling it at all
Aerosmith belong to that group of bands that become a parody of themselves. Hard to take them very seriously. This aint too bad though. It is what it is. 70s ‘I like drinking and getting my end away’ rock’n’roll. Maybe I’m just jealous. Enjoyed Last Child. 2.5
Aerosmith are one of those bands I dislike without any real reason. Never listened to an album before and when I think of them I think of the deep impact song..... This was different to what I expected and probably I probably enjoyed it more than I thought I would. More blues sounding. Nothing here I would go back to though and still wouldn't call myself a fan. 2.5
Pretty sub-par rock. Somehow no hits on this album? Another review mentioned this bridges the gap between heavy metal and hair metal. But it falls flat for me.
Generic seventies rock from a bunch of Stones wannabes. Little new or innovative.
My dad really really hated this album.
So people like this stuff, eh? Interesting.
Generic and boring
I couldn't get into this album. It seemed like each track sounded the same as the previous. Not to mention, Aerosmith is not one of my favorites, will not be actively seeking this out again.
This album is called Rocks ‘cause that’s what they was smoking when they made it. #lowhangingfruit
Aerosmith is not an album band for me. They’re a singles band. Their songs either suck absolute shit or they’re inescapable classics.
I just don't like Aerosmith.
Not actively bad, but very unremarkable. Definitely a couple moments of "rocking out" here, but overall it runs together in a blur. When this album was over, Spotify put on other artists, and for a brief moment I thought the music had just improved substantially. But alas, no. 2/5
I never really liked aerosmith. They are like walmart-brand Led Zeppelin. I don’t think the songwriting is interesting or creative, I think they just ride off the electric bluesy guitar, which I also don’t really love the tone of. On paper they are so similar to led zep but it just does not work for me. It really sounds so stale and uninspired to me. It sounds like they needed to make a record and struggled to come up with any material. The rhythm section is a huge part of that too. None of the individual elements of this record really stand out to me. Rats in the cellar rivals U2 for worst song about New York.
Du rock il me semble
Meh...
Meh. It's Aerosmith. It's fun, but I have to agree with the album's contemporary critics--it's just Aerosmith reheated. Obviously inspiring to a number of guitarist who ended up picking up the instrument *because* it's fun, but the dearth of decadent music and a bunch of people's nostalgia is not enough for me to be impressed by this on its own.
This wasn’t a bad album, but it wasn’t good either. It was catchy but not a good type of catchy. The vocals were ok. Nothing really stuck with me though and it kinda fades into the background after a while.
So limp. Try hards.
Back in the Saddle then a bunch of other meh songs.
Didn't hate it but a bit bland, repetitive, and forgettable. 2.5 stars. Why can't I give half star ratings?!?
Very samey
This was an alright listen. I feel very similar with this to how I feel about Guns 'N' Roses. Some really cool and fun guitar work mixed with some kind of boring pentatonic riffery and vocals that I dislike most of the time. Vocal harmonies are rough in some tracks like Sick As A Dog. The mixing is weirdly clean, the distorted guitars have less bite than I'd like. I would have left Sick As A Dog and Home Tonight off of the record.
2/5. Just a generic rock album. Sure, more raw than normal, but nothing in the way of songwriting. Not bad but just okay.
Sucks!
I honestly don't see how this is any different than the other flavorless bands of the era. I know Slash and Hetfield (and even Kurt Cobain) have cited this record as a huge influence, but to me, it's just standard tool box rock fare who's only highlight is that it's only 35 minutes long.
Back in the Saddle: A middle-of-the-road blues rocker with horse sound effects at the end. Last Child: "sweet sassafrassy" The near-funk rhythm almost saves this one Rats in the Cellar: I would prefer the Judas Priest version (if there was one) Combination: More riffs. The bass part is pretty rocking. Sick As A Dog: Sorta poppy in a Spinal Tap way Nobody's Fault: The Led Zeppelin one Get the Lead Out: Possibly the worst riff on the album Lick and a Promise: The Motley Crue one Home Tonight: of course it ends with a ballad Not really that bad but not good at all. It's safely a two-star record but its only saved because it has fewer references to carnal knowledge of teenagers than a Kiss album.
My opinion of aerosmith has never quite been the same since that rollercoaster, scarred for life.
Their fourth album, featuring 0 of their top hits. Not for me
Rocks. This is truly just "the rocks" of music. I'm talking like those regular grey rocks you find in your backyard. That's how unique and interesting this album is. If I gotta give Aerosmith one thing though, it's that they've mastered the album length formula. None of their albums overstay their welcome or feel too short. The 30-40 minute range is perfection.
I don’t really like Aerosmith.
Orket ikke å høre hele, men det jeg hørte var nedre enn fryktet
Pretty ok
Oof. A lot of filler on this one. Feels like an album intended for adults, but would appeal to children. Maybe just a product of it’s time, but the lyrics are quite corny. I suppose that’s just Aerosmith. Not a complete bomb, but not sure how this made the cut for 1,0001 albums when it’s so mediocre.
Steven Tyler looks like a giant grouper.
Meh, too samey and dad rocky for my liking ;)
Da war ich noch unter 14, ....rockig
People listen to this?
Meh i think, nothing outrageous
Jeez, back-to-back butt rock albums? Yayyyy... Okay I've just read that this is actually Cock Rock, not Butt Rock. Huge difference apparently, but boils down to generic macho rock music. I'm sorry, I know Aerosmith is """classic""" but there just isn't anything I find engaging about the music. "Nobody's Fault" is decent but it sounds more like Zeppelin than Aerosmith. The guitar work is okay but it kind of just melts together at a certain point. Steven Tyler obviously has a great voice, I just don't care about what he's singing.
First two cuts (wait for it) rock, but the balance of the record is a grungy grimy, utterly uninspired muddle. Last cut is okay too but too quasi-Queen-esque to clear the bar of sheer mediocrity. 2.5 at best but rounding down for their many subsequent crimes against good taste and musical decency (very much including judging singing contest television shows) which far outweigh their (not-really-much-more-than modest-when-one-considers-their-rather-unfortunate-it-worked-out) longevity. In other words, all their awful later work more than canceled out the decent amount of solid-to-solid-plus material they released earlier.
This had one or two pretty catchy songs on it, but most of this is stereotypical boring classic rock guitar-noodling shite. At least it was over quickly.
Not a big fan of Aerosmith. Mid at best
nothing is special about this band. they have some singles that may be “important” to listen to, but none of their albums aside from toys in the attic matter enough to listen to front to back. rocks is no exception. the songs are same-y, the lyrics are boring, steven tyler gets grating after a couple of songs. back in the saddle is the only song i could really stand, and it’s probably because i listened to it growing up. this album and this band can kick rocks. no more thank you
Honestly, this is a pretty weak Aerosmith release. They definitely had more creativity on things like their self-titled and even later releases like Just Push Play or Get A Grip. This one is pretty average for them. Even Aerosmith being probably my favorite "Hard Rock" band (this excludes Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and BOC because I always think of them as "Rock and Roll." I don't know the actual difference, I just know feel this way in my brain). Anyways, this definitely feels like a weak release. I just think a lot of others appeal to me more. If you like Aerosmith, then you should give this one a shot, but I'm not all too jazzed about it. Highlight: 1.
*sigh* Is this influential on crotch rock genre? Not revisiting this one...
Couldn’t be bothered to finish it.
Knew the first 2 songs. Everything else sounded like the same song over and over again.
A definite improvement in songwriting from their previous effort. Still not a lot to write home about though.
It's the same Aerosmith album you've heard before, just lacking in any definite highlights such as 'Dream On' or the like. Would recommend for fans of bland guitar noodling and radio-friendly rock.
Ihan menevä, mut ei jääny erityisemmin mieleen. 2,49*
Another album I bought back in the day (through the Australian Record Club), but have since offloaded. Just played it through and it’s better than I remember, but Robert Plant he ain’t. I think they peaked in the late 80’s.
So I read about how influential this album is; Nirvana, Guns 'n Roses, Metallica, et al. all cite this as a key text. And yet, it seems really flat to me. Often described as 'heavy', 'funky', 'rocking', I find it only kinda heavy, kinda funky and kinda rocking. I listened to this four times through. Back int he Saddle starts the album off with some promise, and then the rest of the record just fades into interminable boogie. Is it that the rhythms are too controlled? Is there too little dynamics? Is it slightly too polished? Not as funky as funky, not as heavy as metal, not as rock as anything? The guitar interplay is certainly not to Stones standard, the boogie not to a ZZ Top standard (Waiting on the Bus came onto to my spotify playlist immediately after this record, and it popped out immediately as a much better example of how to do this), not Zep standard anything. I was just a little bored. I wanted a bit more rock, a bit more growl, and bit more funk, and bit more edge.
Blegh I can’t
The standard Aerosmith affair: bland and boring. P.S. Does this album really belong in this list? [Nope.]
Do you remember when Walk This Way came out, with Aerosmith and Run DMC and you were 12 and it was like "oh SHIT!" and then sometime later you heard the original Aerosmith version and you were like "oh."? And then you heard Guns 'n' Roses' version of Mama Kin and you were like "OH SHIT!" and then you heard Aerosmith's version and you were like "what?"? That's pretty much my relationship with Aerosmith. They belong somewhere in the rock n roll landscape, but they always feel about two steps back from greatness. There was that point at the end of the 80s / beginning of the 90s where the brought in songwriters and became really popular and had some catchy tunes. And hey, I owned Permanent Vacation and Pump. There's nothing on this one for me, though. These feel like sketches of better songs. These songs were recorded too soon. Two steps back from greatness.
Fine just kinda boring classic rock. Instrumentally it's enjoyable. The lyrics are pretty trite though.
Blah.
Nothing special
Decent rock
They definitely have a signature sound but no stand out songs to me.
After the first two songs, the rest were filler. And I give those first two a C+.
Not the best Aerosmith album, but it's Aerosmith. I like the songs that sound more metal. Just reminds me of playing Guitar Hero with my brother.
third Areosmith album on this list and just felt weak and by the numbers
2.5
2.75
Arguably their best album cover but by no means their best album.
I found this really middle of the road…
Hmmm. Bit forgettable really, aged power rock from Aerosmith
Some good stuff on here, but I wouldn't say it's their best work.
First song was good, the rest were just average Aerosmith to me
i'm sure if you're really in to 80s rock then this is a top ten album. i'm not so it's a no from me clive.
Stop fucking putting Aerosmith on the list. A blitzkrieg of shit, although better than the almost comical later stuff. 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈
Steven Tyler ain't it
My ears have been wronged.
by name, by nature
70s rock. Needs to stay there, this is just loud and somehow also bland.
Meh
Raucous energy. Had some great tracks but I found it all sounded the same by the end.
This was one of the albums on constant rotation at the house parties Shirley hosted at her folks' house in Sudbury every weekend during high school. When I went back home last weekend I was saddened to see that her house was gone. I don't mean it's not recognizable due to an addition or renovation. It's gone and there's nothing in its place. Her parties were so legendary perhaps the house was lifted and brought to the Smithsonian. Anyway, I expected to completely hate this album but I kinda liked Last Child. It has a neat melody. The rest of the album is putrid.
Nah too shouty
I haven’t ever found the appeal of Aerosmith from an album perspective. The singles always bang, but I haven’t come across too many deep cuts worth a damn. Unfortunately, Rocks doesn’t really make the case that I should revisit those other early records to change my perspective. “Nobody’s Fault” is pretty fuckin cool and heavy, but shit like “Get the Lead Out” had me reaching for the stop button. These more blues rock standard-type forays are just boring to me, despite Perry’s chops. 2
Not much of an Aerosmith fan.. didn't knock my socks off
It's alright, I don't think it's representative of mainstream Aerosmith, but it's fine listening. Just not very memorable.
Short and sweet(ish). Just squeaks over half an hour, but nothing particularly memorable. Like Tim said above, I knew a fair few Aerosmith songs before listening, but none of these. Won't listen to many again, but I did like the last one (I do have a weakness for schmaltzy cheesy rock ballads though). 2/5.
It's an okay rock album but not high on my list.
What if Led Zeppelin Was utter shit and hailed from The United States
Liked a couple of tracks but struggling to see why this album made the list. Mostly pretty standard rock; not as interesting as Toys In The Attic.
Boring glam rock. Accomplished musicians lacking any depth or interest. Shite lyrics
Nothing came out to me. First song was the best
A bit raw, not as polished as some of their later music but still worth a listen as not heard the album before.
Rolling Stones with a Bawstawn accent.
Better than I feared, but fairly standard stuff, not sure I’d listen again
Not as awful as I thought it would be. Still not a keeper though.
Not for me
It’s fine. Totally forgettable… Apparently a big influence on Nirvana - I don’t hear it.
Solid through and through. *The hits, of course.
hate Aerosmith but surprisingly didn't hate this as much as I thought I would. nothing else to say
Vor dem hören: Boah nee, muss das sein? Nach dem hören: dafür, dass während der Aufnahmen nachweislich hart gefeiert wurde, rockt diese Platte so überhaupt gar nicht. Ist mir zu schwach auf der Brust.
A few karmic soothers, but overall too sloppy on guitar especially
Aerosmith je bend koji nije za mene. Baš takav žanr nije za mene overall. Zaboravan album. Nije da je nekvalitetno, loše, mutavo, neg et. But hey! I listened to it, I pulled through!
Preskočio sam sve i jednu pjesmu. Kužim, not for me tho.
I likes it just a bit more than I thought I would. The first two tracks really aren't that terrible, not all that good either. There's some admirable guitar playing on this album but the vocals annoyed the shit out of me. Somehow better than expected, but as highly doubt that I will ever listen to this again.
Don’t really like Aerosmith’s sound. They all blend into one for me.
Actually not as good as I was hoping it to be. Rated a classic, but...meh
Listened to emilys album instead. Don’t care for Aerosmith much
Better on second listen but still a bit meh. It’s a good rock album and see where Aerosmith got it’s cred as a band.
There's way better Aerosmith albums than this one.
För mycket testosterondrypande brösbehåringsrock för min smak. Dagen jag parkerar en Camaro Iroc i garaget (jag påstår inte att det inte kommer hända!) så kanske den ligger som kasettband i handsfacket. Annars, nä.
9th November 2021 Listened on my headphones while working on the sofa. Day that I pitched the CC Community which went well, saw Spencer then went to 384 which was really nice. Very middle of the road, few stand out tracks but not too bad.
not their best work

A lot of the album sounds very samey to me. Might have to listen again but not that impressed on first listen
boring dad rock
This wasn't as bad as I anticipated. Some of the songs remind me of Spinal Tap, but some are okay. 2.5 stars, rounding to 2.
This is the second album that I have reviewed for Aerosmith as part of this list, even though it was suggested first. I've heard plenty of Aerosmith, including 3 or 4 whole albums, but none of the tracks on this album were familiar. I think I have developed an opinion about Aerosmith over time. In the past, there are albums that I would listen to, but I think I'm done. I did not like the album.
"Rocks" is one of three Aerosmith albums on the list. There is one other from their very productive 70s, and "Pump" from 1989. In that, they stand out from other classic rock bands in the career revitalization they experienced in the 1990s. And that's without even including "Get a Grip" (1993) on the list, and it is their best-selling album. In fact, why is "Get a Grip" left out? Half the album were hits, and their Liv Tyler/Alicia Silverstone-fueled videos created a whole new generation of Aerosmith fans. "Rocks" opens with the track I knew best - "Back in the Saddle" - with great arena-ready classic rock energy. "Last Child" sounds familiar, and delivers some blues stylings before a break to a great Joe Perry guitar solo. The rest was unfamiliar, and mostly just ok. Not great. No hidden gems really stand out from the pack. "Nobody's Fault" was kinda bad. Overall "Rocks" was a surprise, and not in a good way - I expected more.
I like Aerosmith fine, in a "Greatest Hits" kind of way. None of those on this album (yes, I know "Back in the Saddle" was big for them, but it's certainly not one of their greatest.) I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of funk on Last Child and wish more of the album would have gone there. I don't think that if I didn't know this was Aerosmith, I would have taken any notice or thought the band would have amounted to much.
Didn't enjoy this. Some good guitar but otherwise nah.
An up tempo rock album that sounds distinctively Aerosmith. Thought I'd hate it after the first track, but it improved after that and, despite predictable vocal melodies, it's fine, if a little samey and uninteresting. For some reason it evokes a feeling of being chased through a city in a film, including sneaking a bit and looking back around a corner at the pursuer before running again. Basically it's TV chase music. 2.5/5
Uninteresting generic 1970s guitar rock. I like their later work much better, this is a bad Rolling Stones rip-off.
Some good riffs. 2.5
Started strong. Initially excited to hear some non-radio hits, but lost interest quick. I like Aerosmith, but I doubt I’ll return to this one. 2.5.
Better than I thought it would be. Not as good as I hoped it would be from the other reviews. I never really understood the appeal of this kind of stuff.
2.5
Never really vibes with Aerosmith. Some of the intros to these tracks are good but then I just lose interest like 30 seconds in. It’s just not hitting for me.
not the biggest aerosmith fan
I'm on a string of albums making me think maybe 1001 is too many in terms of a review of canon. This is a fine Aerosmith album, but I'd bet it's not even their best one. Maybe others would disagree. I'm ok with this one, but not in love.
Not really done it for me at all, but it’s obviously listenable
Standard Aerosmith sounding songs that didn’t really differ from one to the next. Inoffensive and pretty forgettable.
Felt pretty generic and average. Most tracks past me by. Can't even be bothered to comment on song length.
It’s cool... but when I hear the word Aerosmith I want classics! I reckon if I was alive at the time I’dve loved it, but now it feels like also-rans of that generation. Sick guitars and drums. But overall it can walk that way 👉🗑
Last Child me gusta bastante.
Surprising because I'm a fan of the later pop selections from Aerosmith, but this album was not enjoyable
Definitivamente es Aerosmith, pero no es el Aerosmith al que estoy acostumbrado. Este disco se escucha más 'metálico' o punk, lo que me pareció interesante, pero en lo personal no me gustó mucho.
Pretty forgettable honestly. Don’t know why this is on the list, guess they were really stretching for 1001
Not a terrible album, but there are SO many better ones when it comes to the pantheon of 70's rock.
average rock album
i kind of already have a burning hatred of aerosmith from the radio hits. that being said, this sounds like shit.
whatever man. already having a mid day and they give me an aerosmith album.
Not my thing 😔
I already thought I hated Aerosmith. This confirmed AND amplified that hatred.
to rock for me
This was bad and i did not enjoy it. The vocals were actively annoying and the music felt antagonistic. I thought i liked one song but it was from the next album.
How did the 10 year old me who was super into Aerosmith not realize how many songs are about Steven Tyler’s schlong?
Quit screaming at me. There’s no reason to be doing all of that. Steven Tyler’s performance on this album might be impressive and iconic to some, but not to me. Pipe down. Capable musicianship hindered by awful writing and unimaginative production. A transitional record between 70s hard rock and glam metal. I like a good riff as much as the next person (“Last Child” is a textbook example of a catchy Aerosmith riff) but I cannot abide an entire album (and catalog if I’m being honest) that relies so heavily on guitar hooks. It sometimes comes off as them aping Led Zeppelin and paling in comparison. And to reiterate, the lyricism frustrates and embarrasses me. Additional “this is kind of misogynistic” knock. Oh, and it’s recorded and mixed terribly. If Aerosmith has no haters I am dead.
I loathe Aerosmith
I don't listen to pedos
I had never understood why people made fun of Aerosmith so much. Now I do.
Fuck idiom Rock. These fucking albums and this style of writing is so boring and insulting, I just don't get it. Think of an idiom or phrase, sing it 5 times maybe with another similar phase, some disjointed bs, some solo or rif, print money from the simpletons. This format is so common from this era and ya feels insulting to listen to. Like I'm supposed to marvel at the fact that you said "sick as dog, cat got your tongue" go fuck yourself pointless slop that thinks it's cleaver. Sick as a dog is one of the worst songs I've ever heard, like it actually is nothing but stang phrase lol. And just in general the vocals are so uninspiring, like other idiom rockers, just lean as hard as you can into your "rock voice" and say whatever. So dumb I was at 2 here just because track two has the slightest bit of diversity/ funk but by the end of this I'm so pissed off. 0 and I listened to the whole damn thing
Not really a fan of this one :( None of the tracks really stood out to me or left an impression, guitars are layered heavily which made the tracks feel very distorted. I also found that many of the tracks had similarly structured riffs which blurred everything together a bit for me. While Tyler’s vocals are technically good, I actually thought they came across very annoyingly and exaggerated. Maybe just my aversion to heavier (cluttered imo) rock but I just didn’t like this.
I'm sorry, I just never understood the love for Aerosmith. This didn't help.
If we have to listen to Aerosmith, this is probably their best. Which is not very good...
The last Aerosmith album I listened to was a travesty. "Rocks" is a bit better, but that doesn't make it good. Tyler's vocals are still nasty towards my ears. "Rocks" should've been called "Sucks", so the album cover would read "Aerosmith Sucks". Only one more Aerosmith album to endure. 1 measly star for "Rocks".
Fuck. This is the third fucking Aerosmith album ive encountered on this list and I am just not here for it. Aerosmith is low effort trash. They are the grandfathers of butt rock. Aerosmith dads give birth to puddle of mudd kids. Fuck Aerosmith.
I've always hated them, can't stand his voice.
The city of Boston needs to apologize for this drek.
"Tyler claimed their relationship was consensual and that he had immunity because he was her legal guardian at the time" 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
This was an okay listen. I think TitA was a better album, but this was a fun follow up. Little bit of funky blues riffage. The Aerosmith I enjoy is like 90s Aerosmith. Weird affinity, I know. Upon second listen, Back in the Saddle fucks and the rest kind of suck.
Taints
YEOOOOOWWWWWW I am the Man Who Rocks!!!! this shit sucks ahhaha
Nope. Not my thing. Bombastic rock
This is the 156th album I’m rating. Two Aerosmith albums recently. Toys in the Attic was pretty good so I'm assuming this will literally be the greatest album I've ever heard. Adding to my Playlist - Rats in the Cellar, Combination, and Lick and a Promise. Not Adding to my Playlist - Back in the Saddle, Last Child, Sick as a Dog, Nobody's Fault, Get the Lead Out, and Home Tonight. All in all I liked 3/9 songs. I'm not sure if this is actually worse than Toys in the Attic. Maybe this is just me being in an Aerosmith mood that day and me not being in one today. Either way I don't like this.
I really hate Aerosmith but still gave this a try and came out unchanged.
SHUT IT OFF
Man I cannot stand Aerosmith. Janie's Got a Gun killed it for me back in 1989. There was some good stuff prior to that (like Rocks) had a different feel to it. But just the sound of Tyler's voice gets me now.
boring rock slop with one of the most aggravating singers to ever disgrace the microphone in Steven Tyler
I meannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Musically so much more enjoyable than their last inclusion in this list. I know that so many artists, from this period of time especially, made some questionable life choices. But this fella was so far over the line that I can’t separate the art from the artist. If I could it might scrape a 3. Because I can’t it’s a 1.
Not for me. 1/5
Halfway through this list and my goal is to be less of a hater but holy fuck this sucks
Aerosmith is the boring, white version of classic rock bands. They’re generic, the vocals and lyrics are bad and the songs go on too long. This one doesn’t even have hits.
booooooring. I swear I've heard every single one of these songs before
I like the bands they're ripping off (Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin) and the biggest band to rip them off (Guns N Roses) but this in-between cohort of 70s hard rock (Aerosmith, Kiss, AC/DC) has always been the nadir of classic rock to me. Creatively bankrupt, unexciting, over hyped - it's just tedious blues chord progression with a bit of distortion, mid level guitar heroics, a wailing singer and some annoying visual gimmick - vacuous rock star stuff that is even worse when compared to the underground and alternative stuff (or even the pretty similar british metal) happening at the same time. The only saving grace of this album is that it wasn't as overplayed on the radio growing up and so I don't viscerally hate these sons as much as others of theirs.
Nope.
I definitely went into this listen with a bad attitude, and sure enough, the music met my expectations. I don't give a crap about this band, what they have to say, or how they say it. I can understand why Toys in the Attic was included in this list, but the fact that there are 3 Aerosmith albums on here is a hate crime
Terrible stuff. Imagine this being the last album you heard before you died! Some decent guitar riffs, but apart from that it was just so unimaginative and dull. I do like some Aerosmith songs, but they are in no way deserving of multiple entries in this book.
I didn´t like this album at all.
Yep just another can of slop from Aerosmith. If you haven't gotten over it from the last 18 billion servings, here is another.
1. zaddle - 1 2. child - 1 3. ratz - 1 4. combination - 0 5. dog - 1 6. fault - 1 7. lead out - 1 8. promize - 0 9. tonight - 0
shit
Fine for Aerosmith, but not their best album.
Not for me…
I really expected to like some of this but it just hit me wrong from start to finish. It was boring and sounded bad. This might be my least favorite rock album I've listened to as part of 1001. 1.5 rounded down.
oof
No ta
