Didn’t expect to like this and also I didn’t. In year 8 science we watched a documentary and they stuck a camera down Steve Tyler’s throat while he was singing so we could what it looked like and that was pretty cool

Maybe it's not as terrible horrible no good very bad as the other aerosmith album I received earlier (pump), but still not my favourite.
Generic and forgettable
I didn't know Nobody's Fault by Testament was a cover from here. Huh. That was confusing cause I knew I heard Nobody's Fault before when listening to this, but couldn't remember where. At first I was thinking Guns N' Roses, as it sounds like something they would do From the Wikipedia article of Nobody's Fault: > "Nobody's Fault" is often cited as one of the heaviest songs Aerosmith has ever recorded, and many musicians regard it highly. Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash and James Hetfield of Metallica both consider it one of their favorite Aerosmith songs. Additionally, Kurt Cobain mentioned the song as a favorite in his journal. It IS a very solid song. The rest of the album.. didn't connect with me that much. It is their highest-rated album on rate your music, and many tier lists online place this album at the top of Aerosmith's stuff. I guess there is some goodness hidden in there that I don't know about yet. I was able to see the goodness of Nobody's Fauly since I like it from Testament's cover
Quite remarkable how there’s a traceable, almost linear downgrade in quality with each passing song. “Nobody’s Fault” in particular might’ve been the back-breaker for me. A pretty good bassline and guitar lick on “Last Child” won’t hold my good graces for an entire album. It’s hard to track the misgivings and reprehensible things done by all the classic rockers, but Steven Tyler in particular has had a platform that’s somehow outlasted the stuff he’s done. I’m not super amped about giving his project multiple albums on this list. They’re saying 2 starts is the new 3 stars
If someone told me this was their favorite album, I’m immediately checking an online registry…if you know what I mean.

a lot of rocn'n'roll influences, fun vocals if you are into that kinda stuff. Hair metal before hair metal. Some guitar parts and vocal mannerisms remind me of Led Zeppelin (i like them more), but overall it's not my music, dont know what is wrong exactly, but songs seem boring and not fun to listen too, everything sounds samey
We didn't really need this one here. We already had one from Aerosmith's "heyday" in Toys in the Attic and one from (but not the correct one) from the band's 80's revival with Pump. This doesn't really add anything nor does it have any great and enduring songs. Key tracks: Back in the Saddle
This blows. Basic as all hell butt rock done better by everyone else. They have no style of their own. Their fast exciting songs sound slow and boring. Oh hold on, wait.. okay Nobody's fault is actually good. But that was the only one that was interesting. Why is this album on the list? Very underwhelming and uninteresting save for literally ONE song.

I hate to relegate anything to a genre but I’m this case I will: I do not enjoy seventies hard rock. Van Halen, AC/DC, thin lizzy. It doesn’t resonate with me. And maybe Aerosmith, a band I try to understand every few years through their first three or four albums, is at the bottom for me. Plus one because Perry really is an excellent guitar player.
I didn't hate this, but didn't really like it either. "Last Child" or "Sick as a Dog" are the only standouts on here for me, rest is pretty generic meh

Lol what the heck was this mid? Never a big Aerosmith fan for many reasons but why would this album be on here? They've made better stuff but I guess this was influential for hard rock.

A classic rock album with funk elements. Every track is high energy, nothing is slow and meloncholic. Even though I grew up listening to this kind of music (my parents were into classic rock and hair metal as well as some early 90s grunge), I never really got into this music. It's not awful, but I don't think it's particularly exciting either. With that being said, I did enjoy "Nobody's Fault".
Doesn't really Rock. Curse Guitar Hero for convincing me this band was on the level of the Beatles by giving them their own game. 4/10

I got to the end and enjoyed this album more than expected, up to a point. I can see the Led Zep comparison and the lineage to Nirvana. In short though, too screamy and repetitive

I used to love Aerosmith, then I listened to other music and realized Aerosmith isn’t that good. Steven Tyler’s voice is like really obnoxious on this album, especially the opening track. Like he’s not really screaming, just straining his vocal cords. I’m not that into it. Sorry.

Pretty much just your average 60s bubblegum rock band. Not bad but definitely not something I'm coming back to. I knew I'm Not Your Stepping Stone, the rest pretty much ran together. Louie Go Home is just store brand Daytripper

Wow, our first Aerosmith album! I like several of their singles that came out in my lifetime, but wouldn't you know, their 70s album doesn't do it for me. It wasn't nearly as offensive as some other guitar-and-screamin' bands, but it also did not entertain or interest me. I guess that's a 2.

I actually know very little from Aerosmith. I listened to Permanent Vacation (1987) when it came out, and a lot of Pump (1989) as that included one of my favourite tracks (Janies Got A Gun), but never really explored their back catalog. I remember being surprised to learn that “Dream On” was originally theirs as I only know the version from The Mission and didn’t know it was a cover for several years. Aerosmith are probably a band I should go back and listen to their early albums. As far as “Rocks” is concerned it sort of flew past me when I played it. Wouldn’t be able to name a single song that stood out. I am now, however, listening to their self-titled debut and “Dream On” is such a cracking track.
Aerosmith really isn't my thing. Listened to most but wasn't familiar with most of these songs. Liked Back in the Saddle.

I've never been a huge Aerosmith fan but I will say for this being only 35 minutes it was pretty decent! Still not my style but I wouldn't be mad to hear it again. Steven Tyler's vocals do rock.

I wasn't super into this album, but it's fine. It's rock music, the album is titled "Rocks," and it seems like it was pretty influential. I'd say it certainly deserves to be on the list for that last element alone, but that's about it. Favorite track: "Last Child"

Why is this included, like seriously. Does it give you something, you won't get from listening a single Aerosmith song? No. Does it in some way excel in what other groups were doing at that time. No. Can I really call it bad? Also no.

Pretty fun, generally decent but overall overshadowed by its forebears. Definitely can hear the influence of Led Zeppelin here, and they're not as good as that.

They are just a bit rubbish really, aren’t they? Interesting fact: they named themselves after a boring chocolate bar (they didn’t even go for the mint version) and a boring surname just to show how boring they are. It gets a bonus star for being short, though. A mantra for this list: if you can’t be good, be short.

I had never listened to an Aerosmith album before. It sounded about like I thought it would. "Back in the Saddle" is a great song. The rest was forgettable and maybe, a little annoying.

Aerosmith is just simply not for me. While I can recognize the talent of the bandmembers and see that this is a very competently made record, to my ears it's just vapid lyrics interspersed with impressive guitar solos. The album lacks any substance underneath the surface (that I can detect at least). It's not actively bad, so I can't give it a 1/5, but after the first couple songs it just became a chore to get through. 1.5/5 ->2/5.

Realmente he querido entrar en la obra de Aerosmith muchas veces, pero se me hace difícil. En parte es por su sonido. El bajo es casi inapreciable y las guitarras suenan débiles para un grupo de rock. Las canciones tampoco son maravillas melódicas. Y todo es inexplicable para una banda con grandes presupuestos para grabación y grandes músicos en su formación. Supongo que es un sonido muy americano y eso tampoco me cuadra mucho. Lo siento, porque me caen muy bien, pero al disco le faltan canciones buenas. Es todo una medianía sin momentos de brillo y con sonido plano.

This didn't have too much of the harsh vocals. *This sounded more like Black Sabbath (in a good way) than modern, poppier Aerosmith. I take that back - the next few songs sounded like their modern style. Meh. RATING - 6.5/10
I was fearing this. The outcome is an album that ins't that heavy, or even that metal. The songs actually have some substance - a rarity. Listen carefully and there's funk around the edges. But it's still dumb ass rock. It works better with Beavis and Butthead.
Aerosmith is a band I honestly didn’t think existed until the 90’s…probably because I wasn’t alive before then. My oldest bro was really into these guys when I was a kid. I really like the Armageddon song, and they do have some great hits. In otherwise got annoyed with Steven Tyler’s voice and will deem this “old music”

Some songs are alright, but the album is just so monotone. It's like a metal album that got it's balls cut off.
I liked it, but it didnt real stand out to me as anything memorable. Cool rock vibes though. Probably only a song or two that I was really feeling, the rest of it was just okay.

My third Aerosmith album in this project. Not to say they haven't earned their place in some hall of fame or other. But. Three bloody albums? That I need to hear before I die? Absolutely not. One would have sufficed, and honestly, I wouldn't care if their one entry on this list was Rocks, Toys in the Attic, or Pump. Their all very, very similar in what they deliver and how well their represent Aerosmith as a band.
I used to love Aerosmith and wanted to see them play live. But I’m fine with the fact that never happened. Though I learned a fun fact the other day that Slash is apparently a big palaeontology nerd. He does private tours of museums when he tours through cities and is well regarded in the study for having a high level of knowledge for a non academic.

I swear I listened to this whole album, but I don’t remember a single thing about it after Back in the Saddle. The whole thing just felt like background noise. Nothing about it was interesting or engaging enough for my brain to remember it. Maybe this is an important album in the development of rock, but it stands as hollow remains compared to more interesting things that came after.

Classic 70s that opens with a banger
Other than the single (Back In The Saddle), there's not much here that's interesting.
Early Aerosmith is definitely better than late, but still tainted and kinda challenging to enjoy.

As 'Rock' goes it was an easy listen, maybe too easy for my taste. I didn't take in his lyrics, which always seems to be in the sleazy side. By numbers rock.
This whole thing is cool because I never would have listened to a full Aerosmith album probably. It is not my fav vibe, the kind of cheezy sleezy hard rock thing, but I see why they were a big band. Definitely foretold the 'hair metal' trend, party but not a lot of substance, riffs but nothing too deep to hook into.

Coming off the back of Toys In The Attic, it suffers a lot. There’s no hook song - no instant classic. It’s one of the Aerosmith albums you forget easily.

Steven’s voice is crazy, sounds like it must constantly hurt, I don’t know how he hasn’t completely lost it by now. Some catchy beats and guitar riffs.

I've always had a soft spot for Aerosmith's 80s/90s stuff and was looking forward to this, but it was quite forgettable. No real great memorable riffs or lyrics. The only thing of interest was that some parts had a slightly funkadelic edge to them which was unusual. Disappointing.

Eh, didn't love
Can't say I understood the hype for Aerosmith; a perfectly average rock band. I remember hearing "Last Child" on Guitar Hero II, but didn't really care for it then either. There are glimmers of greatness, but nothing truly stands out.

Knew a few songs,not really an Aerosmith fan.
While I have heard Aerosmiths most famous songs I haven't listened to this album or any of these songs before. And after doing it I understand why I never listened to more than the greatest hits. The audio mix and scream-singing he does over and over makes me fell uncomfortable more than it makes me rock out. I like a lot of old-school rock but this doesn't hit that note with me at all. This is an album I wont be searching up again.

Wholly unremarkable - no real stand out tunes or moments. Sounded pretty shonky. Thought it was debut so was surprised this was 5th album and so far from the polished behemoth that's the later day Aerosmith.

Another Aerosmith album. For fuck's sake. The idea of using 2 slots for this wank when you're limited to 1001 is ridiculous. As to the music itself. The album is better than Pump. But then again, a solid turd is better than a runny one. They're both still shit at the end of the day. I think this album just about scrapes a 2. It's bad, but my real anger is at the fact it's on this list, not in the music.

The more I revisit this band, the more I think they are a glorified bar band. The parts of this album that I enjoyed were instrumentals like the end of Rats in the Cellar. I find Steven Tyler to be an insufferable vocalist and I find most of these songs to be pretty inconsequential.
Best Song: Back In the Saddle. Stephen Tyler at least lets loose here and stretches his voice in a compelling way. Worst Song: Home Tonight. This feels like the kind of song that would be sung by a cartoon cat in a direct-to-streaming children's movie. Which is to say I don't like it. Overall: After a moderately interesting opening track, it was fully downhill from there. A short, uninspired album of mildly bluesy rock. Weird inclusion on the list, as I feel like Aerosmith has (at least marginally) better albums.

No. Just no. Just like on "Toys in the Attic", I can find fleeting moments here, in the harmonies and vocal lines, which elevate this over standard bluesy hard rock fare, but I really don't feel like looking for those.

A wholly uninteresting record on it's own, but I have to give credit where it's due. The blueprint laid here for 80's rock bands is hard to ignore.
We remember Rocks, starts out strong - then fades. Back In The Saddle was huge, Last Child is the best cut on the album. The album is good, not great. Not sure it’s 1001 list worthy (2.3*s)
Like all Aerosmith albums this one is another 2fer. Came out swinging with first 2 tracks and then it was meh from them on out. I can see how this album had some influence because they do venture into hair band, grunge, and hard rock. I think the band has done a great job at staying relevant throughout the decades but you really can fit all their good songs on 1 greatest hits album (prob why openmindz owned it). Aerosmith Rocks (sometimes)...2.15.

I think with this album I realised that I'm not really a fan of Aerosmith. Yes, they have some nice songs, but this album was not my thing
Love the bassline for Back In the Saddle. This is a completely unmemorable album. Every song sounds like the 70s. I didn't really think of Aerosmith as Zeppelin rip offs but this album definitely has that vibe. Like more generic Greta Van Fleet...and I just read an article where the GVF guys said they were influenced by Aerosmith not Zeppelin. Some of this sounds like Van Halen, some sounds like ZZ Top. Lick and A Promise showcases how bad Steven Tyler can sound sometimes. His voice is grating. One song at a time is fine, song after song is not good. Joe Perry plays "GENERIC ROCK GUITAR", he sounds like he did the playing for Bill and Ted when they play air guitar.

My previous album was Butthole Surfers' Locust Abortion Technician, and this album is the opposite in many ways. Safe, conventional dad-rock, a baseline for American rock music of the 70s, just not very exciting to me, and not classic enough either. Still, I understand why it is part of this list.

I'm not sure I've ever really been able to put Aerosmith is a genre. The stuff I know from the '90s is so poppy. This sounded like glam metal half the time. I didn't care for it much.
It's one of those albums where I feel like I should like it, but I didn't. This album just didn't do it for me.

Decent album, but not great. Aerosmith brought the guitars, Joe Perry is front and center as he should be. The production value is lackluster, thin, and brassy. It’s an ok album, not great. Couple of cool songs but it’s mostly forgettable. 2.5 but not enough to round to 3.

2.5 Whenever I hear Back in the saddle I always think to myself I should listen to more Aerosmith. But when I do, it doesn't really interest me. I mean the Steve tyler is an all-time front man and the band is really great. Tom Hamilton is very underrated, his playing is great and has written some iconic bass lines. It just doesnt connect with me for some reason

In some ways, I do like some of the riffs and even some vocal melodies and lines on this album. However, then there are times when it starts to sound like the Aerosmith they were going to become, which I cannot take. So, all-in-all, this album is okay. I'd call it listenable, but I did not like it, as a whole, and wouldn't want to go back to it.

I listened to it four times. I can’t recall a single song. It was easy to listen to but completely unmemorable.
If someone were to ask me what my top three music genres are, rock would be on there. The guitar is my favorite instrument. That said, while I try to find rock music to add to my playlists, Aerosmith is hardly on there. It is mild and honestly I cannot imagine Mick Jagger doing what he does to most of his songs. They are boring. It’s like waiting for the bass to drop. I go in thinking wow this is going to be so good and then I’m like 😑. I will say, I feel like if I was in the 70s (idk when this came out) and I was on drugs (which I don’t do) this would probably pop off.

Rocks Don’t think I’ve listened to many Aerosmith albums. I had the early greatest hits and I had Toys in the Attic, as it was the only place to get the full length version of Sweet Emotion, and I love that song. They do have some real gems across their career but have never been interested enough to do a proper listen. I didn’t mind this - I neither particularly liked it or actively disliked it, a couple of good tracks but a lot of samey-ness. You can hear the influence on bands like G’n’R, but I’d actually rather listen to Appetite for Destruction, which has more excitement and dynamism. Back in the saddle I’ve always liked. Last child is good (riff sounds a bit like Hit me with your Rhythm Stick) Rest of it is fine, nothing stands out, but as I say nothing to actively dislike. Hard to score overall, somewhere around a 2 or 3, but as I’m probably unlikely to listen to it again and I enjoyed Lynyrd Skynyrd more and have that 3, I’ll go for: ⭐️⭐️
Track 1: this was a fun opener to the album. Track 2: fun sad riff into a funky main riff, but it’s kind of a basic riff and chorus. Track 3: decent track. Track 4:okay song not my favorite. Track 5: catchy chorus but kinda average. Track 6: I like this song and the groove it has. And the tone of the song is pretty good. Track 7: I liked the intro to this and kinda the jamming that happens towards the end. Track 8: kinda a basic bluesy song. Track 9: I think this is a good closer for the album. Overall: 5.2/10. Kinda just an average album not bad though just isn’t doing it for me.
Really don't think it was essential for me to have heard this many Aerosmith albums. This one was fine I suppose? Anything is better than Pump. Fave track: Sick as a Dog
Some of these songs I could find myself interested in, but in the end I think I’m just pretending to. This sucks and makes me miss the album they had about the attic. Two stars

Before today I thought I was an Aerosmith fan, and I guess I am in a Greatest Hits sense of fandom. By the end of the album I was wondering when it would be over. For me it's a 2, I'll listen to the songs I like but don't think I'll revisit the whole album.
I've heard about 1/2 of this album through the radio over the years, which I thinks speaks to the impact they've had on the industry. However, I never realized most of these were Aerosmith—it was always just, “Some classic rock band” in my brain. This album probably deserves at least a 3 or four for musical abilities, but I have to rank it a two because this album does nothing for me, and I spend the entire time counting down the minutes until it was over, so I know I'll likely never come back to it intentionally.
There's there's a good reason this genre didn't travel past America over to us Brits. It's very very boring.

I'm sure this was cool at the time, before glam metal before mainstream, hard rock blues like contemporaries ZZ Top. It's fast and busy with a distinctive arena sound. But all the songs blend together. It's so forgettable and boring. They often try going grand and either atmospheric or rampant on a guitar solo at the end of several songs like "Combination" or "Get the Lead Out" which matches with the arena approach and stands out but doesn't do much for me. The only song that felt different was the funky "Last Child." Favorites: Back in the Saddle, Nobody's Fault

Half hour album that feels like an hour. I guess I liked it more than Pump but it suffers from all sounding the same and I guess I also just don’t like Steven Tyler’s singing much at all.

Aerosmith belong to that group of bands that become a parody of themselves. Hard to take them very seriously. This aint too bad though. It is what it is. 70s ‘I like drinking and getting my end away’ rock’n’roll. Maybe I’m just jealous. Enjoyed Last Child. 2.5
Aerosmith are one of those bands I dislike without any real reason. Never listened to an album before and when I think of them I think of the deep impact song..... This was different to what I expected and probably I probably enjoyed it more than I thought I would. More blues sounding. Nothing here I would go back to though and still wouldn't call myself a fan. 2.5
Pretty sub-par rock. Somehow no hits on this album? Another review mentioned this bridges the gap between heavy metal and hair metal. But it falls flat for me.

Not actively bad, but very unremarkable. Definitely a couple moments of "rocking out" here, but overall it runs together in a blur. When this album was over, Spotify put on other artists, and for a brief moment I thought the music had just improved substantially. But alas, no. 2/5
I never really liked aerosmith. They are like walmart-brand Led Zeppelin. I don’t think the songwriting is interesting or creative, I think they just ride off the electric bluesy guitar, which I also don’t really love the tone of. On paper they are so similar to led zep but it just does not work for me. It really sounds so stale and uninspired to me. It sounds like they needed to make a record and struggled to come up with any material. The rhythm section is a huge part of that too. None of the individual elements of this record really stand out to me. Rats in the cellar rivals U2 for worst song about New York.

Meh. It's Aerosmith. It's fun, but I have to agree with the album's contemporary critics--it's just Aerosmith reheated. Obviously inspiring to a number of guitarist who ended up picking up the instrument *because* it's fun, but the dearth of decadent music and a bunch of people's nostalgia is not enough for me to be impressed by this on its own.
This wasn’t a bad album, but it wasn’t good either. It was catchy but not a good type of catchy. The vocals were ok. Nothing really stuck with me though and it kinda fades into the background after a while.
So limp. Try hards.

Very samey
This was an alright listen. I feel very similar with this to how I feel about Guns 'N' Roses. Some really cool and fun guitar work mixed with some kind of boring pentatonic riffery and vocals that I dislike most of the time. Vocal harmonies are rough in some tracks like Sick As A Dog. The mixing is weirdly clean, the distorted guitars have less bite than I'd like. I would have left Sick As A Dog and Home Tonight off of the record.
2/5. Just a generic rock album. Sure, more raw than normal, but nothing in the way of songwriting. Not bad but just okay.

I honestly don't see how this is any different than the other flavorless bands of the era. I know Slash and Hetfield (and even Kurt Cobain) have cited this record as a huge influence, but to me, it's just standard tool box rock fare who's only highlight is that it's only 35 minutes long.
Back in the Saddle: A middle-of-the-road blues rocker with horse sound effects at the end. Last Child: "sweet sassafrassy" The near-funk rhythm almost saves this one Rats in the Cellar: I would prefer the Judas Priest version (if there was one) Combination: More riffs. The bass part is pretty rocking. Sick As A Dog: Sorta poppy in a Spinal Tap way Nobody's Fault: The Led Zeppelin one Get the Lead Out: Possibly the worst riff on the album Lick and a Promise: The Motley Crue one Home Tonight: of course it ends with a ballad Not really that bad but not good at all. It's safely a two-star record but its only saved because it has fewer references to carnal knowledge of teenagers than a Kiss album.
My opinion of aerosmith has never quite been the same since that rollercoaster, scarred for life.

Rocks. This is truly just "the rocks" of music. I'm talking like those regular grey rocks you find in your backyard. That's how unique and interesting this album is. If I gotta give Aerosmith one thing though, it's that they've mastered the album length formula. None of their albums overstay their welcome or feel too short. The 30-40 minute range is perfection.
