Reviews (page 5 of 11)

Not sure that Judas Priest is objectively better than any other hard rock band, but their style appeals to me more than others. A 4 for personal preference.

Classic metal.

Generally not my sound, but there are good songs here. Standouts include Breaking The Law, United, Living After Midnight, and The Rage.

I like this album a lot. Favorite tracks: Breaking the Law, Living after Midnight.

This album really surprised me. I thought Judas Priest was much more heavy metal, but I guess I should’ve known they were more so in the 80s hard rock space with songs like “Breaking the Law” and “Living After Midnight” being radio hits. Besides those two standouts, “United” was the sleeper hit, a song that made me want to run through a brick wall and rally the troops. Just really enjoyable 80s cheese throughout the album and at 35 minutes never too much of it. I can easily see myself listening to more Judas Priest in the future after hearing this definitive album.

3.6 straight ahead british heavy metal. The louder you play it the better it get. Pretty solid, enjoyed grinder and obviously the radio hits. red white and blue, was a stinker

buenisimo, inesperado que me guste tanto

One of the most significant hard rock albums of its times. Has defined a lot the genre for the years to come. Loved especially Breaking the law.

Never was a big Judas Priest fan but this is the band at its best. Strong songs, tight musicianship and high quality production shows how quintessential this album is.

A solid Judas Priest, has some of their best songs, but it's also a bit softer than some other JP releases

Day 9 and the first album I've liked considerably more than I thought I would, having not been hugely familiar with Judas Priest. I cranked my headphones up loud and was loving the riffs and solos..it's a little dated but it rocks. Docked 1 pt because I'm not a huge fan of the singers voice, but enjoyed this overall.

A bracing screamer of an album. Not my normal wheelhouse but quality.

Absolute classic. Would have given it a 5 of it weren't for the two mediocre songs on the album.

Yeah this rocks. Awesome riffs, great energy, great vocals. The couple of more anthemic songs don’t really land for me but otherwise 🤘 Best song: Breaking the Law

This album is good. Its actually really good, but why is this here over like 4 of their other albums that are more influential then this one. Like yea this has the big hit song, but thats about it.

Tvrd uvod s Rapid Fireom. HC. Breaking the Law je ikoničan. Vjerojatno gateway u Judas Priest. United nekako uspori. Refren zvuči ko da bi mogo biti Man Utd fan chant. The Rage ima cool bass riff. Ne predug album. Slično Maidenu i Metallici.

One great heavy metal album! And poppy tunes too!

Good classic heavy metal

Grunky

Weird to listen to right before an ethics test but super fun! Didn’t know how many hits were on this album! Best song-grinder.

Aside from United and The Rage, every track on this rips. Maybe not for everyone, but this totally clicks for me. The end of Steeler is so good.

First and foremost, this album’s rating was single-handedly saved by my realization that Red, White & Blue is a bonus track not included on the original release (thereby being excluded from my scoring). That song bites. Anyway, pretty great album. I find a bit of nostalgic comfort in the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal sound, and the execution here is superb. Great guitar tone, big riffs, I love the way the clean basslines are utilized in the rhythm sections, etc. The one real stinker for me is the song United which closes out side one, but aside from that even the songs that could have been lackluster for me (You Don’t Have To Be Old To Be Wise springs to mind, and Living After Midnight is admittedly super corny) at least end up sounding okay thanks to the great musical arrangements. Classic sound, great record. Top tracks: Rapid Fire, Breaking The Law, The Rage, Steeler

Seriously surprising. Never rated metal and ripped the piss out of friends who did at the time, but there are a lot of bangers on this album. Not sure when / if I'll listen again, but glad I did.

This was so good, at no point did I think "when will it end". Next time I need some high powered rock I will come back to it.

This album makes me think that, had I been an adult in 1980, Judas Priest would have been my favorite band. It sounds a bit dated 40 years later, but it still rocks. 4.5.

Good, solid rock. I enjoyed the experience and wouldn’t mind hearing it again.

Love the guitar.

Not my favorite Judas Priest album. This is after they began hitting mainstream radio play with catchy guitar hooks and radio-friendly choruses. Rob Halfords still has one of the most powerful, 10/10 voices in Rock history here. Overall I still prefer earlier albums Sad Wings of Destiny and Hell Bent for Leather.

Solid if a bit repetitive rock n roll. Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight are classic

Can definitely hear some AC/DC influence on some of these songs, and also hear how this influence future metal albums.

Hell yeah Judas Priest!!

I can appreciate that this is many people's favorite album ever, but it's not really for me. But Breaking the law breaking the law is dang fun

I feel like I always enjoy the metal albums on this list. I'm not really sure why that that is, though I suspect it's because (just like jazz) there are not a lot of metal albums on this list relative to, say, 90s alternative rock. The end result is that there is a much better crop of metal albums than genres that are more represented. This album really feels like an inflection point between the metal of the 70s and the metal of the 80s. Likely, that's because all of the 80s metal was influenced by this album. That makes sense, because this album kicks fucking ass. It's consistently good, with some absolutely classic metal songs 4/5

Setting the tone for thrash metal in the following decade, British Steel is straight up terrific. The sound of new wave of British heavy metal never disappoints and Halford is a legendary frontman. The only miss is 'United' which is barely half a song. I get that it was meant for live performances, but on an album it just doesn't work and really kills the flow of the record.

I mean… It’s Priest. So it’s pretty damn good heavy metal. It’s a bit too radio friendly to be my favorite of their records - especially “United” is a mess that should have been left for a live album.

Great album. Love the hits. Don't love the whole thing as much.

Hey that was pretty fun. Very 80s sounding metal but it was fun and didn't overstay their welcome.

8/10, solid album

I was fully prepared to not enjoy this. After listening to it, I like most, if not all of the songs on this. This is just easily enjoyable metal music that even someone who has very little experience in the genre could probably enjoy. This has all of the things a metal album would need to be good, like catchy and heavy riffs, and powerful vocal performances. For some reason, this felt vaguely familiar to me, even if I haven't heard any song from this before. It may be because my dad played a lot of AC/DC when I was younger, and this reminded me of that, which may sound insane to Judas Priest fans. I feel like AC/DC is slightly more hard rock than metal though. Rating: 7/10

enjoyable hard rock/heavy metal album not what I'd usually go for, but I guess the sound is commercial enough that I'd enjoy it some awesome tracks like "breaking the law"

Grinderrrrrr - Looking for meat. Things you knew then but REALLY know now.

I’ve not really listened to much Judas Priest other than a couple of the hits but after listening to British Steel I’m struggling to see why they weren’t as big as bands like Iron Maiden and Def Leppard. (or maybe they were an I’m just stupid) British Steel is probably the best metal album I’ve listened to for a long time and Rob Halford is easily one of the best metal singers of all time which is probably why I had a great time listening to this album and is easily better than anything I’ve come across by both Iron Maiden and Def Leppard.

Solid 80s power metal.

I lovvvvee Screaming for Vengeance, guess I’ve never checked out their other albums much. Just raw metal.

Interesting, rever 4*

Well I was not expecting to enjoy that, for some reason I thought JP were super heavy, but turns out it's classic operatic rock with melody and riffs and just really fun. Never knew they were Breaking the Law 🤦

Classic rock at its best

Solid tidlig hard rock

Judas Priest is one of the best Metal bands ever, and with Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight, this album contains two of their more well known songs, even if the latter is more mainstreamy. This is, however, far from their best album (that distinction belongs to Painkiller or Firepower), and it is beyond me how British Steel is the only one of their albums on this list. It's still a worthwhile listen. 4/5

Uskomatonta 1980 musiikki häh miten voi olla.. uskomatonta.. ei vituta.. mitä häh.. trasnitioinit kaikki tip top täydellistä..

Du bon métal pour le traitre de Nazareth

Wouldn’t say this was particularly good… but heck I enjoyed it a lot

Right up there with Metallica as far as good metal goes. I don’t know what it would take for a metal album to get the 5th star but this one came close at times. Living After Midnight sounds like a KISS track almost. I listened to “Breaking the Law” before taking my criminal law final…got an A-, I’ll take it

Venga, un 4. Así soy de generosa, aunque no sea mi estilo.

Yay, more metal! I’ve been listening to Priest for nearly 20 years now and I still love these guys… but British Steel has never 100% worked for me. There are a couple too many anthemic tracks that I can do without- seriously, “You Don’t Have to Be Old to Be Wise”?- but I’ll concede that they’ve honed their sound in the studio by this point, sounding nearly as good here as they do live. I’d still recommend this for a newbie to metal, but I’m way more of a Painkiller/Hell Bent guy. B

Really solid, it's loud, brash, and unapologetically metal AF 🤘

Highlights: Breaking the Law, United, Red, White & Blue

So fun and timeless

while not my favourite judas priest album, certainly an important one in their catalog. after all, this album contains three of their biggest songs (“metal gods”, “breaking the law”, and “living after midnight”). all in all, a solid album, certainly one the band should be proud of. highlights: “rapid fire”, “grinder”, “the rage”.

Really great and want to listen to again.

day 35. this was a really fun, speedy listen. I absolutely love Rob Halford’s voice and the power he brings. As for the tracks, the flow is pretty great, the first four tracks are so solid together … and then I felt like everything came to a halt with United. next four got back on track, but I couldn’t get behind Red White & Blue either and it felt like a weird note to close on. Ignoring those two songs it might even be a 5 star album for me. new faves - Rapid Fire, You Don’t Have to Be Old to Be Wise, The Rage 4/5

Really fun hard rock, two songs made my playlist so

Never been a big Judas Priest fan, mainly because I’ve never heard any songs other than what they play on 101 the fox. . Athat being said. They are clearly really good. This should be a fun listen.

With 40 added years of hindsight and context, I think Grinder is hilarious - Grinderrrrrr, Looking for meat! And y'know, I bet Rob Halford finds it funny as hell too.

Really good Hard Rock Album ! Catchy riffs, nice vocals and awesome solos. Everything is there Favorite Tracks : Breaking the Law, Living After Midnight, You don't have to be old to be wise, The Rage Rating : 4.25 / 5

Great hard rock album... Forgot to review and now I can't remember the good things I remember but was definitly clean to listen, from tracks overall to solos and riffs! Solid 4/5

now these boys know how to rock

Goes hard* * United and Red, White & Blue do not go hard

Liked more than I expected

Loud, proud and with a tight drum. As a not-fan of the genre, I loved this.

grinder and the rage. i like the energy of judas priest and the solos.

I've never listened to Judas Priest before but I really enjoyed it. Great guitar and drums. I also listened to their other album Painkillers and I like that one even better. FS: Rapid Fire, Breaking the Law

oh breaking the law is zo een classic! Net als Living after midnight. Na mijn eerste gevoel vind ik dat het album vooral heel mooi in elkaar vloeit. Als judas een priester was hier in de kerk, ik zou gaan!

OOOh kan ik wel van genieten zo nu en dan. Zitten schijfkes tussen. BREAK THE LAW

Rocky rockness.

Sonzeira, altos solos

Breakin' the law! Breakin' the law! 🤘 🤘 Before this, "Breaking the Law" and "Pain & Pleasure" were the only two Judas Priest songs I knew. Glad that's no longer the case. This was good stuff.

So very good. I wish I had gotten into Judas Priest years ago. Rob Halford has one of strongest vocals & widest ranges in music history, and I'd bet seeing JP live back in the day was spectacular. If you follow Rob on social media, you'll see a sweet & kind man that adores cats. Great album.

Can't go wrong with some vintage Judas Priest. It's got two of my favourite Priest songs on here, so I was rockin' out today.

Judas Priest Rules* *If you haven't already check out Heavy Metal Parking lot...

Great album! A lot of songs!

I really like this album a lot. I've Loved this since I was a kid.

Solid album where at least half is hits

Bombastic, loud, daft and glorious. The root of the parodies. Steel Panther could never.... Banger after banger.

Great album, if only they could have more than just one on this list because there's better more important Priest albums.

Lekker

I don't know why I expected this to be 80s glam metal. This is legit metal. First four are a bit similar, expect breaking the law, which is actually more glammy pop metal, but I don't mind because it's fun anthem. United is also more glam pop metal ballad and is the only low point so far. Jarring to go from "breaking the law, breaking the law" to "united united united we stand". Lame, anyways. The second half gets more power arena metal but it's happening years before that style gets over done. And there's a couple last Surprisingly good. Some tracks don't hold up but I'm going to listen to this again.

i can see why this is spiros favorite band

a bit heavier than my taste, but technically solid album

A classic for on a class act

Some big classics on the album but I didn't like every song. Still as great album.

I'd say if you don't like Judas Priest you aren't human, but I just gave Stevie Wonder a 2/5 and feel really bad about it so I'll refrain. I've heard this album a million times. It's still really fun to listen to. Painkiller's still their best album in my opinion, and this one does get a little repetitive with just about every song being mid-tempo with a big sing-along chorus, but you still get all the fundamental Priest qualities you could ask for with this one.

Great, clean, consistent, cohesive. United and Life After Midnight and The Rage are really good!

Good, god fearing metal

“The Rage” has a cool funk/reggae intro which was surprising in a metal track. “Grinder” is really catchy. Album: 4/5.

Classic heavy metal album featuring great guitar duetting by Glenn Tipton & KK Downing and superb vocals by the great Rob Halford. The solos are superbly executed and the riffs are catchy. Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight are now well deserved rock classics. 8,8/10

4.5 stars. Great metal/hard rock album. Radio ready hits "Breaking the Law" and "Living After Midnight" interspersed into heavier, faster tracks. Expected more heavier metal sound, but the singing and arena rock-ish elements were a pleasant surprise. Record flowed well from start to end, keeping up the energy.

Classic

Este es un excelente disco

I've listened to "Breaking The Law" many times since it sat in my iPod Nano in high school, but I hadn't ever sat down to listen to the full thing. It's Heavy Metal alright, but a little more upbeat and hoppier counterpart to what Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, etc. where putting out. This is achieved by the energetic drumming. However, I prefer the darker sound of the bands I just mentioned. You can definitely feel the sound headed in a more 'hair metal' direction, although not quite there yet. Rob Halford is an icon. His vocal work in "The Rage" was my favorite part of the album.

If this album kept the quality of the first four songs over the whole album, this might've been one of the best albums in the (early) metal genre ever made. Rapid Fire is almost speedmetal avant la lettre and feel like where NWOBHM takes off, Metal Gods with its hypnotic rhythm that emanates the relentless march of the robots, Breaking The Law is a Beavis and Butthead classic banger and Grinder with its K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton guitar battle in an almost AC/DC like simplicity is pure rock 'n' roll. I was blown away by this part and then came United. What in the everloving metal hell was that? And The Rage. And the atrocious bonus track Red, White & Blue. Maybe broken up by a few decent tracks, but it really drops the average of this album quite a few points. And that's really too bad.

I didn't think I liked metal, but here I am listening through to this twice and zoning out enjoying it. Whether it's just this band or just this album, glad to have my mind opened! My favourite song was "Rapid Fire." It reminded me of certain Misfits songs. Speaking of things reminding me of things, "Breaking the Law" really reminded me of "Someone Super Like You" from Phantom of the Paradise. I am not sure if I will regularly return to this album since a few of the songs were schmaltzy and seemed like ballads dropped in randomly ("United" and "Red White and Blue"), but I will probably return to certain songs.

Very strong start with Rapid Fire. Nothing too different but it definitely has it's charm. Towards the end, the songs started to blend. Absolutely love the bass riffs, though. Also really cool album cover. Fave track(s): Rapid Fire, Steeler

Metal.

Love love love Judas Priest but remember this as never being my favorite. Several strong rocking tracks but punctuated by United, RWB, and some others that just got feeling same-y. Really hoping to see Sad Wings of Destiny / Screaming for Vengeance make the list . . . 7/10, will round up just for the strength of Halford's voice.

Very good

There are many MANY bands that don’t get to a sixth album let alone their sixth in only six years as a band. British speed metal gods show why they are still relevant y making a timeless metal album that sounds good still to this day.

nice. pretty generic. nothing special

A 5 star heavy metal album ruined to 4 star by too horrible songs. United (1) and Red, White & Blue (<<<1). The latter might be the worst heavy metal song ever.

Didn't really know what to expect going in, but this was pretty good. It went harder than I expected it to. It's closer to the type of metal I like than some other metal albums on here. I think the opening song is a great way to introduce the album. Didn't really like United, but everything else was good. My favourite songs were The Rage and Breaking the Law.

Listened Before? N You should always study the classics. Especially when it comes to metal! This album is an all-time influential great. Everything from the hard and fast thrashers, to the slow grinders. Even though it's from1980, this is still hard, heavy stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Breaking The Law, Living After Midnight

British Steel is almost the platonic ideal of this style of metal. I've always thought of Judas Priest as just this side of parody, pushing the leather and the spikes and the law breaking just to the edge of ridiculous. Which I find perfectly entertaining.

A lot of fun

This album was awesome. I'm not sure that I would categorize it as metal like they do during it, but it's great hard rock. Really fun to listen to. Favorite track: Steeler

Surprisingly pretty good

Will never listen to this again, but it was surprisingly solid.

Love 'breaking the law'

Surprisingly good album

7/10 it’s got a fun sound but it’s really kinda fucking cringe

So 80s and kinda anti capitalism. I liked to listen to it while doing homework cause it was energy inducing

🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

I liked this way more than expected

had a good time

Pretty good

Generally quite enjoy NWOBHM and this is no exception to that, great album!

A NWOBHM classic. This album goes hard and doesn't let up. Not quite as good as Screaming for Vengeance.

breaking the law breaking the law

I’m surprised that I liked this album as much as I did. Almost has a bit of a punk feel to it.

Album is ok, so many the earlier albums are quite better and heavier. They moved more into the hard rock in this one. Some decent songs besides the hits like Grinder and Steeler, but United, Red,White & blue are just so awful. Tough call between 3 and 4, I doubt there will be another Priest album so 4 it is.

Rapid Fire and Metal Gods are real highlights. Great rock & roll, wasn’t into JP at the time, more into punk, but this was very fun to listen to.

this is about as highly as i can personally rate a metal album. it’s good, but not for me

4 Classic

Not my cup of tea but I admit it's good

Pretty decent, better than expected. Catchy and melodic in places which is a nice surprise considering the reputation metal has.

I like it

Those guys are British?

Some nice heavy metal. But I can't help comparing it with Iron Maiden, and I like them better than Judas Priest.

Discazo. Los vivos y breaking the law ases.

Wirkt eher rockig als wirklich wie heavy metal. Kann man durchaus nochmal hören.

It may be sacrelidge to say this in the rock community but I am not a fan of Halford's voice. That said this album delivers classic Priest. The riffs and rhythms are strong throughout, and on the occasions when Halford sings rather than chants the vocals are good. One of the foundational albums of 'metal'. I can't give it a 5 because of the vocals. If they had been sung instead of shouted it would have been 5. As it is 4

Solid, but not outstanding

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Grinder (4) 2 - Breaking the Law (3) 3 - Rapid Fire (1) Honorable Mention - Steeler (9)

Un bon classique

Classic metal album!

I like much song of this album. On "Breaking the law" and "Living after midnight".

Really good straight forward metal. Simple song writing, great guitar work. I do feel badly for the bass player. Pretty lame work for him. This is a great album to just pop in and get to work.

One of the flagship albums of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Judas Priest know their strengths and they deliver with screaming guitars and Rob Halford’s inimitable snarl.

So good to hear some rock again ! An easy 4*

Just what I needed today.

Can't deny this super fun metal. Every song is an anthem.

Surprisingly OK, can't say I've listened to much Judas Priest but it basically sounds like Jack Black doing his metal voice. More melody that I was expecting and some bangers here, not too shabby.

My previous knowledge of this album was limited to Beavis and Butt-Head. This project has again helped me find what I like in genres I had avoided. This is good, pure, enjoyable, rockin' metal for almost 100% of the album.

A heavy metal album where the songs all sound different? That's pretty swell. I am super impressed with the differing styles of the guitarists and Rob Halford's deft vocals. A pleasant surprise.

First of all, I didn’t know that Judas Priest rocked this much. Or metaled this much? I can hear future 80s hard rock/metal in these tracks. Second, I often rail against lead singers that don’t have great voices singing. So when one that can’t sing well uses his voice smartly, like Rob Halford, I must applaud him. Rob doesn’t have a great singing voice, but…brilliant idea…he doesn’t try to sing a lot. He talks musically and kind of grunts, which works great for both his voice and Judas Priest’s sound. He does sustain a sung note from time to time and it works because 1) his voice isn’t bad and 2) he doesn’t do it very much which allows the occasionally strained note to be forgiven. Although I’m relistening to The Rage while writing this paragraph and I might be underselling his vocal quality a bit. Third and most excitedly, I finally get the references in Sun Kil Moon’s song Glenn Tipton from the Ghosts Of The Great Highway album. I now know Glenn Tipton is a guitarist is Judas Priest. It’s strange that the opening song is titled for Glenn because there is only one line in the song referencing him (“Some like K. K. Downing more than Glenn Tipton”). I now also know that K. K. is a guitarist in Judas Priest. I have to say they both shred. Continuing with my albums-that-are-not-on-the-1001-list asides. GOTGH is a really good album. Stylistically, it’s nothing like Judas Priest. It’s more folksy indie rock. It gets my recommendation seal of approval. British steel is likely not much different than steel from elsewhere around the world because they generally use the same standards. However, British Steel is made of the stronger stuff.

Great fun, great influence.

This is class. I always get nervous about metal because I hate screamer songs, but this is not that at all, I'd barely class it as metal really. Little bit cheesy in places, but it stands up forty years later and I will definitely be listening again. 4/5.

I love Judas Priest and I love this album. ❤️

quite fine, actually. 3.5

Fuck live bonus tracks...

I only know Breaking the Law, but I’m excited to listen to the rest! I’m not at all a metal aficionado but I’m struck by the MeatLoaf-esque theatricality first and foremost. Rob Halford has the perfect metal voice to deliver a mix of standard hardcore metal lyrics and unique clever metaphors denouncing patriotism and such. Besides Breaking the Law, which is classic, I am interested in United which is a kind of tongue-in-cheek pop-inflected tune that seems to try to subvert patriotism. It came as a surprise after the first few tracks, which hopefully will key my ear in to the other unique qualities of this album. Of the other hard rock albums I’ve listened to so far during this project, I think I like this one the best. I appreciate that the lyrics are not unnecessarily dark and morbid and are instead songs with some kind of message towards society. I do recognize that this album has a bit of a commercial sound, which suggests a double edged sword (rock in the mainstream can be great for the musicians! Rock in the Mainstream can be restricting or even inauthentic.) Songs like “Living After Midnight” are simple songs about having a good time and being young, which are simultaneously characteristic of the rock ethos and a bit too commercialized and sanitized. As the album continues, I really really like the song The Rage! The guitar riff is awesome, and Halford is especially sounding like Ronnie James Dio, whom I love. The interacting bass riff and guitar interlude is particularly standout!! I recognize that this album is a really quite good hard rock/metal album, though I admit it’s not really my thing! I will totally return to “The Rage” and “Breaking the Law” but the others were just okay to me. I will give this album a 4 though!

Never really thought a lot before this project about how much early Metal is a product of the UK. I’m sure this means something, though I couldn’t say what. Can’t really fault any of it for what it is.

I assumed the worst. 80s heavy metal. However I am surprised. I could escalate some of these tracks to a favourite playlist. Not sure what he’s singing about but the sounds are cool Cover art 4/5

4.1 - Classic heavy metal! This is black leather, motorcycles, smoky pool halls, and pints of whiskey that are shattered on the ground. Rob Halford plays the part of metal overlord to a tee. Love the screaming guitar solos, too!

Solid metal. AC/DC meets motorhead, with fire vocals and soloing. Campy fun 👍

Rock the fuck on

These guys are just having a lot of fun. Enjoyable album from start to end. I was going to go with 3 stars until I read that Rob Reiner based Spinal Tap off of Judas Priest. That's a bonus star from me.

\m/ ^_^ \m/

Hell yeah! Riffs galore! Big drama! Great energy. Really fun stuff. Their rhythm section reminds me of a train chugga-chugging along relentlessly. It makes for an awesome foundation for the songs.

Really impressed with this album, enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

Love this from my past!

I don't know a lot about Judas Priest but this is good old (80s heheh) heavy metal so I guess it's time to start my education. Fave: Grinder

EXCLELFENTE ROCK MIEDA AKALSKLASFKBREking thelawbreakingthealw

leider eines der schwächeren judas priest alben, vereinzelt aber trotzdem geile songs 3.5/5

Good rock, liked it.

I never really listened to Judas Priest, other than Breaking The Law, I didn't know much about them. Enjoyed this album, headbanging most of the way through.

“Just a grinder looking for meat” is one of the funniest lyrics I have ever heard. I think this album is great. Very early signs of hair metal, but still some elements of classic rock. I wonder if Metallica got some of their sound influence from Judas Priest?

Fun album, knew a few songs.

this album was great!!! the heavy metal was a work of art. i didn't realize judas priest was so heavy metal--i thought they were more rock--nor did i realize how influential they were on the heavy metal scene. i mean, this album came out in 1980! it's weird to hear so much heavy metal yet there are two rather patriotic songs (okay one was a bonus track) on this album when they're a british band. regardless, rock on, judas priest.

I found this album to be an excellent display of 1980s heavy metal. The tracks are chock full of excellent guitar riffs, the vocals are over-the-top and perfectly theatrical. There are no duds on this album; each track has an exhilarating power of its own, and that power does not let up until the very end. That said, I still find the album to be incredibly accessible to someone who might be a little metal-shy or metal-timid. Though they are undeniably great, this album is SO much more than just the well-known Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight. I loved every minute of this album.

Not my usual kind of stuff, but really liked this mix of grunge and metal, and the new to me songs

Simply great heavy metal. Signature falsetto vocals and killer riffs makes almost every song a banger.

Van Halen but harder and not as talented. How did I miss these guys til now?

Buen disco de metal. Más tranquilo de lo esperado

Just a solid early metal album, really feels like Iron Maiden took a ton of inspiration from Priest. Definitely enjoyed this one, the two singles Living After Midnight and Breaking the Law were alright but almost enjoyed the deeper cuts better. Overall this album really feels like the foundation that so much metal, thrash, and rock through the late 80s and 90s built off of. You can see how they do so many things that later bands would pick up on, and improve on. What Judas Priest creates here really is just so solid, and maybe seems more simple because of what came after, but it might be one of the most truly influential albums I've heard so far in terms of being able to hear the legacy they left through memories of other bands I've had close connections to growing up.

Classic metal album with hit after hit. \m/

I hadn't listened to this album before now. I was nineteen when British Steel hit the airwaves, made me familiar with Living After Midnight and Breaking the Law as metal anthems, but I couldn't relate to the whole black leather and chains identity. Not a bad song on this album though. I'm not sure British Steel is the defining metal album of all time but it's certainly a great point of entry. Best liked: Metal Gods, Rapid Fire, Grinder and You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise.

Un bon heavy metal classique ça met toujours très bien.

Classic! Halford's voice is as powerful and shrilling as ever but what really brings this album together is the drumming accompanying the catchy riffs. The reason this isn't a five star is because I find especially "Metal Gods", "Grinder" and "You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise" a bit stale and mellow. The ending, "Red, White & Blue" also doesn't do the album justice. One of my personal favorites, "The Rage", would have been much better suited for closing this iconic album. All and all a good but a overhyped classic album. This album is triumphed by many other Priest albums, "Sad Wings of Destiny", "Painkiller" and "Stained Class" just to name a few.

I mean you can’t go wrong with Judas Priest, but why not listen to Screaming for Vengeance instead? It’s better pretty much throughout

FUCK YES. This album fucking SLAPS. Judas Priest knew what they were doing.

This slapped so hard

Some great metal classics. Also some bullshit... "Red, White & Blue" for instance. But you have to love that NWOBHM!

This was thoroughly enjoyable!

Enjoyed it. Great heavy riffs, pretty good singing

The essense of heavy metal. Amongst the albums defining the whole genre

This one takes me back. Straight ahead, street smart metal with punk bones. Needs to be played loud in a fast car.

Classic heavy metal. Lots of familiar riffs and solos that are still being replicated. Big time vocals although a little overly emphatic/theatrical at times fire my taste. The rage, steeler 3.8

Absolute classic and what a banger. I was never a big fan of Judas Priest as a teenager and honestly what an idiot teenage me was. I really missed out.

good thrahs metal album that clearly bridges between more traditional heavy metal and modern thrash metal

Never paid attention to these guys before. Solid hard rock!

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Breaking the law, United

Low 4. Enjoy the music more than singing/words

The godfathers of metal, but before it became too heavy to handle. Loved it

хеви, на яндексе после него идет хорошая подборка, ария, айрон мэйден. кул.

Surprisingly listenable

Good album. I just like other albums by Judas Priest better.

It's thrilling to be able to revisit this and consider it with a queer lens. And in many ways, it feels like of course this super masculine flavour of heavy metal would be a perfect match for the leather daddy S&M variety of the gay male life. Maybe that's why the album is so strong - while Rob Halford wasn't out in 1980, the song matter feels authentic to his life. And regardless of yr sexual identity, decades on, the attitude and swagger are still thrilling. We're all breakin' the law in our own ways.

Awesome 80s heavy metal

A true fucking classic. So many things came out of this. I was always more of a Maiden fan than a Priest one, but c'mon, it was 1980 and this was already Priest's 6th album. They were pros already, they paved the way for 80's metal.

Venga, un 4. Así soy de generosa, aunque no sea mi estilo.

Betere rock maar niet mijn klasse

I really liked the hard-core and it’s the first time I’ve gotten rock in a while so I was gonna like it no matter but I liked it very much.

Living After Midnight, Rockin' to the dawn! This is quality old school metal that's always fun to listen to. Love it!

I’m not a huge metal fan but I really enjoyed Judas Priest. Rob Halford’s vocal delivery is fantastic and the music is driving yet still has a clarity to it. This album was released over a decade after Judas Priest formed and heralds the coming of thrash metal.

Very solid (Pun Unintended) early heavy metal release. Favorites: Breaking the Law, You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise, Living After Midnight

This takes me back to when I used to listen to music like this a lot - and I should do so again. This album is full of well-performed, tight songs. Great!

Iron maiden is better lol

worth it just for breaking the law on it's own. top album. not perfect, but a great listen

Awesome 👏

Classi. Metal

Breaking the law!

Heck yes!! 🤘

So fun! End-to-end rock, a progenitor of thrash. I read that it was one of their more "commercial" efforts, which I guess is true, but it did pave the way for a lot of bands to come.

4, not my favorite Priest album but damn good.

They break all kinds of laws

It was a good album. I knew a couple of the songs.

Alright

Classic. Not my fav by them but good.

Me gustó pero son ingleses y les gusta

Some unquestionable masterpieces mixed in with what feels like filler material.

Honestly solid 8/10, expected a generic sort of hard rock album; I was pleasantly surprised by how good it actually was.

4 out of 5 . Not a huge metal fan but this is one of the best metal albums I've ever heard, and I could picture myself listening to it again

It was ok

Skön lyssning. En riktig classic

Not a super huge metal fan, but this album was a good listen. Would have to listen twice to get deeper into the lyrics, but the music was good. Great guitar.

jeppers. Veldig kult. Ingenting bedre enn å avslutte med litt nasjonalisme.

I really enjoyed this

I'll admit I enjoyed the album a lot better than I'd expected. Maybe because it didn't contain the high-pitched screeches I associated with Judas Priest. The lyrics are really extremely ridiculous to the point of being hilarious. Of course this was long before the app Grindr, but coincidentally (?) the song Grinder is full of lines that could be understood as metaphors for homosexual promoscuity "Never straight and narrow", "Got no use for routine", "Grinder, looking for meat". Although presumably not intended (?), this added to my enjoyment of the album.

This album seriously rips.

Nice music, not as intense as I was expecting. 7

Solid metal album, great guitar and fun and not too british haha

Not bad. 7

Did not realize Breaking the Law was Judas but here we are. Fantastic album, they remind me a lot of Iron Maiden but maybe a little more rockish than metal. Of course this list would pick "british steel" as the first album but I guess we have to take what we can get.

album cover hurts my fingers, 7/10

Energetic, very 80s rebel rock.

Interesante disco. Hay canciones que podrían ser cercanas al pop, al hard rock ligero y los riffs que ya apuntan a algo más heavy. Rolas: grinder y steeler

Nice, always liked Judas Priest. This is often regarded as their masterpiece, and I'm trying to figure out why. Don't get me wrong, there are genuine bangers on here, I just don't feel it hitting the same highs as Screaming for Vengeance does for me. Still, a great album and a very enjoyable listen, even if some of the tracks start to run together. Good old-fashioned heavy metal. Also "Breaking the Law" is a song I know very well thanks to Adventureland. Feel like I'm giving a lot of 4's lately, but that means the list is working like it should. Favorite tracks: Breaking the Law, United, Metal Gods, The Rage, Grinder. Album art: Definitely iconic. I prefer some of their more cartoony covers, like Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith (what a cover), but this one is bold and instantly recognizable for me. Sort of reminds me of the hand we saw on the SOAD self-titled. 4/5

Some classic tunes on here, love some 80's metal 🤘

Sehr geiler, sehr ursprünglicher Hard-Rock. Geht ab!

This was fun - give me a trans am and see what happens - 8.2 - first time listening all the way thru

Tracks: Living after midnight, The rage, Metal gods y la obvia Breaking the law

Great, classic metal !

Not an album I ever would've sought out but yeah, there are some bangers on here. Rapid Fire is sick. I don't know if I liked anything else as much as it though. I know when it came out this was like METAL. But it feels kind of Dad-Rock in 2021. This isn't to say it wasn't great, it's just interesting how time changes perceptions.

Fun, great metal guitar, give another go someday

Rick on

Gnarly

Starts real strong. Good Record. Not my thing.

Great mix of hard guitar riffs and still somewhat melodic

Wasn't exactly what I was expecting from Judas Priest. I'm more familiar with Painkiller and that "side" of Judas. And Christians were up in arms about this band? Did they even listen to the albums? I loved the drums and the vocals, two iconic sounds, on likely an iconic album.

You can’t kill the metal

Couple of bangers but really dated metal

Well I like it more than trash metal, but it’s not really my idea of fun. Impressed me more than I expected. 3

i feel like it would be better as an instrumental

Solid early Heavy Metal album. This is a 3 for me. I like the genre, just have not listed to much JP in the past. I would definitely listen again!

I kind of loved it - but creep spooky

This seemed so much scarier when we were younger. Now it’s a three star classic rock album. All their hits are here, and they’re better than every band they’ve influenced.

This record was just a bit before my time, but I can appreciate it. It’s got some classics on it, and it’s pretty fun. 7.5/10

I was really surprised to see that according to 15 years of last.fm stats, I’ve never once listened to Judas Priest until today. For such a popular and influential band in the rock/metal scene, I was quite astonished that I’d missed them all this time. For a first listen, this was pretty top quality. It had all the good elements of classic hard rock. The final song, Red, White and Blue, was my pick of the bunch, although I’m not sure it technically counts as it’s a bonus track and wasn’t part of the original release. This could have potential for a 4 with repeated spins & kore familiarity, but for now I’m giving it a high 3.

One of the better heavy metal albums and a great group live. Good driving music if you want a speeding ticket

Not a genre I usually listen to. I do find the lyrics cringe but the music was good.

This was a lot of fun. Much better than I remember.

Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: Breaking the Law This was a decent heavy metal album, but I didn't find Judas Priest as enjoyable as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden or Metallica. I thought Judas Priest went in for a bit more of the "hail Satan" satanic-panic themes of heavy metal, but this album didn't seem to have anything of the sort.

breakin the law, breakin the law vOv

I dunno if I loved this one as much as I was expecting to. If I'm in the mood for this kind of 80s metal, it really hits good but for this listen my head and heart wasn't really into it. I was never into Judas Priest growing up and this listen kinda vindicated my disinterest It was all kind of bland. Nothing here really had an edge to it which is funny considering the razor cover art. The only standout track I wrote down was "United" because it was the only one that didn't sound exactly like all the others. "Steeler" was ok too. It's a meh 3/5 for me. Maybe with some more listens I'd find more to like.

It doesn’t really go as hard as I would hope. I expected some real rage and heat, but it just kind of came off as a slightly harder classic rock album. It’s a well made, the music is good, the lyrics are good, and it’s well produced. It just didn’t evoke anything that substantial. A bit of a let down, really.

This isn’t really my thing, but I found myself enjoying this more than I thought I would. Still, it’s a three star album for me, and one that I wouldn’t bother listening to again.

Fine. The good songs are good. The rest is forgettable. Judas Priest has a giant metal footprint though. So, respect

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Interrupted over two sessions - train and car Definitely not what I would have picked for a Monday evening commute - but wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be once I got used to the fact. Sounds like Black Sabbath - but I would choose Black Sabbath. I know nothing about Judas Priest and definitely had never heard any of the songs on this album - that was a novel experience. I liked the guitar solos the best. Grinder was catchy. I might listen to that song again, but don’t think I would replay the whole album.

Maybe I don't understand the intricacies of this genre, but it all just sounds the same.

I like the Britishness of this album and it’s nod to the British heavy industries which in 1980 were still alive but about to be consigned to history by Maggie Thatcher. If this was a good thing or not depends on your own viewpoint which is a bit like this album and the metal genre in general. It’s fine for what it is but not an album I would ever go out and buy. Ok to stick on when busy with other things but not one for a listening session. 3/5 28/5/26

No es mío, pero es divertido

decent for metal

Dang good 3.5/5

I'm not the biggest metal guy, but this was a solid album. I've sung "breaking the law, breaking the law" to myself many times over the years during many different events, but this was my first Priest album and I had a good time listening.

Even though I’m not a huge fan of heavy metal, I have to admit, this album is really solid. I’m not an expert, but I can see why it might be considered a classic in the genre.

I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. Very solid musically, just not my thing. Also, Grinder is hilarious

Pretty good! I will say though, there are two genuinely horrible songs that tarnish this album. Most albums have a stinker, but "United" and "Red White & Blue" are absolute ass.

girls this is a metal album idk what else to tell u
